Something that happened over the weekend that I wanted to share.

There has been a lot of banter on here, some quite heated, in the last week or so between ourselves and United fans. Well, over the weekend I was working nights, I work as nurse on a large heart unit. We had a new patient arrive on Friday evening who was very poorly. We settled the patient in and as I got talking with him noticed a big United tattoo. I commented on my allegiances and we had a laugh and a joke as well as digs at each other.

As the night wore on the United fan became very ill and over the space of about 6 hours their heart stopped 3 times and I, along with the team on the unit restarted it each time. We settled him and come the morning on Saturday the United fan was stabilised. They were tired but much better.

Going back for the second night shift I was pleased to hear the United fan had had no more events and was doing well. I went to their bedside and was greeted by thier spouse and two young children. They were also United fans. They were all grateful for the efforts of myself and the team, even if I was a Liverpool fan.

When thier family left the United fan became quite emotional, realising what had happend the night before they said thank you and then said something that got me (that never happens when I'm in work mode) . He said " I know what you did for me last night, I'm so grateful I wasn't walking alone". I don't think I have ever heard another fan from another club reference YNWA.

I a pleased to say the United fan is doing well, they have had the required treatment and procedure and will be home to shout at the telly by the end of the week. Point to this is Liverpool, United we can support them, defend them, get annoyed by them but in the end it is just a game and there are more important things in life. Like having a United fan owe you one!

Would the powers ever consider changing the rules to awarding every hand ball in the box as either a pen or an indirect free kick? my thought is that it becomes quite subjective (like lots of things) when the ref rules whether it is deliberate or not. and honestly, so many handballs are barely deliberate right? But with that subjectivity, why should the defending team on occasions be advantaged from an "inadvertent" handball like Valencia's against us!? 100% the ref calls that anywhere else on the pitch.

so, in awarding a pen or indirect free at every handball, the subjectivity would remain in deciding whether an indirect or a pen. But at least the attacking team isn't disadvantaged from an attacking play breaking down.

When they introduce VAR's they could review the objective moments (ball hits arm) to help the ref make a subjective decision (deliberate or not) . but either way the attacking team doesn't lose out from potentially dire calls.

anyways, my random thought :)

I agree and think that the only judgement required in these cases should be factual i. e. did the ball hit the arm? was the arm tucked in against the body? Other than that it's entirely subjective when discussing intentional, impossible to judge fairly and builds in a massive amount of unnecessary ref inconsistency. As long as it was applied uniformly it shouldn't be a problem.

19 Mar 2018 15:34:18

The actual guidance referees are given is pretty straight forward and surely if you think most handballs are barely deliberate then why would you argue you should give an automatic infringement. The whole point is to stop a deliberate action producing an unfair gain. It is noticeable that since it was clarified there have been far more cases of defenders keeping their arms down and close to their body, one of the occasions where clarifying has helped players know what they can and cannot do. Just giving an infringement anyway surely just gives all the advantages to attacking players, including aiming at the upper body when nothing else is on.

{Ed001's Note - in Spain every time the ball hits the hand it is a handball. That is why Spanish players put their hands behind their back when facing up.}

I would love Ndidi at liverpool looks a real athlete covers loads of ground. Gives direction to all players around him. I know klopp doesn’t play holding players but I think him would fit in nicely. He would be my can replacement.

After watching the United game and I’m going to put it out there. Hendo is a better deep midfielder than Matic.
No competition for me, Hendo is twice even thrice the player.

he was superb on Saturday I was willing him to score to top off such a unselfish display, long may it continue BR.

19 Mar 2018 09:06:51

I think we need to not be emotional and have a little bit of an overhaul next season if we are to challenge for the league.

This means obviously migs and ward are gone and new keeper like allison comes in to fight with Karius

Clyne gone with one of matip / lovern gone. In one decent center back with Klavan and gomez back ups

Can and Gini gone with naby keita and one defensive mid field and one offensive mid field in. Ox Millner in rotation with Gruijc and Henderson squad players

One decent squad striker with sadly Ings to be moved on.

If we do all this and have klopp at the helm we can definetly challenge for the title and go close or win

This also means change in captain because as much as a like him Henderson can be no more than a squad player.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Mar 2018 09:32:34

Shame as henderson is probably our best of what we have right now. how milner is ahead of him i don't know as we perform better with henderson on the pitch i understand he has injurys to manage but would keep him over gigi can milner and grugic any day.

19 Mar 2018 09:40:04

Alisson is not coming to fight with Karius, that is rubbish.

Neither of Lovren or Matip are going anywhere, they are Klopp favorites, if any CB is leaving it will be Klavan.

Wijnaldum is going no where either. Because we have Milner and Lallana who will be leaving long before him.

Ings hopefully will go nowhere because he is the best option at the club to play the klopp way after Firmino, only needs to prove his fitness. Your post has zero relevance to what Liverpool need at all. And your suggestions made me feel like i've wasted 5 minutes from my time.

19 Mar 2018 09:42:14

I think our front three is sorted, a midfield of Hendo, Keita, Ox is fine, and a back 4 of Robbo, VVD, Lovren and a new RB is solid, Karius in goal.

Where I think we need to strengthen is impact off the bench. I’m fine with Ings and Solanke but we need an attacking mid/ wide player that can cover Mane/ Salah/ Ox, especially if Lallana leaves. Gini I’m happy covering Keita, but we need someone to cover Hendo when Can leaves. In defence, Moreno, Klavan, Gomez and TAA as cover looks fine. We only need a backup keeper then.

That is

1 x winger/ attacking mid

1 x holding midfielder

1 x RB

1 x keeper

Will put us in a title challenging position IMO.

19 Mar 2018 09:42:26

I agree. Liverpool Fans are too emotionally tied to players yet the players are becoming less and less bothered about the club.

5/ 6 players to come in, keeper, cb, right back, Phil replacement and either someone to challenge bobby OR someone to compete with Salah n Mane. So if Bobby is injured Salah goes upfront, wide man slots in.

19 Mar 2018 09:44:43

wow although I agree with a most of your points in your post 2.0 the way you put it across is not needed at all

his opinion and he has a right to express it mate.

19 Mar 2018 09:52:47

Allison won't be joining.

If it was out of Matip/ Lovren it surely has to be Matip who leaves? the lad is useless. I personally can't see Klaven going anywhere.

I agree with Nostra, Milner and Lallana will be gone first before Wijnaldum. If I had it my way all three would be gone and we'd get Keita, bring in another CM and give some youngsters their chances.

We have a good striker in Ings who seems quite happy, he's the perfect man for what we need, I just can't see him staying unfortunately.

I don't understand why people want Hendo to be replaced as captain, what the hell would that gain? it'd be totally out of order and won't happen anyway. People moan about him far too much, watch him with a couple of top class players (Keita and somebody else) near him next season, it'll be a game changer for him. He's better then so many people give him credit for.

19 Mar 2018 09:56:22

and i have no right to express mine? What way did i put it across?

Please enlighten me Johncrow Junior, do you think Alisson the Goalkeeper PSG, RealMadrid and Barcelona are chasing and himself said dreams of playing for Real Madrid and will cost 50+ million € will come to Liverpool to ''fight'' with Karius? come on man, that is rubbish. That is the kindest word i can think of to describe that suggestion. And the rest of my post i see nothing wrong with, like you wasted 5 minutes from my time because i said my opinion he did with his opinions that shows he knows little about Klopp and the players we want out. My apologies mate! From now on i'll just say nothing and let people drive the eds mad.

19 Mar 2018 09:56:25

I'm not saying I do not like these players, i like them. But if you want to win the league you need to be a little ruthless.

Lovern might be Klopps favorite and yours but if you think we can win the league with him then I don't know what you have been watching in the past 3-4 years. Matip is better but doesn't go in for the challenge.

Same with Hendo, he is effective sometime yes but will he get into any other top 6 midfield? think about it. And millner not for the first team but rotation midfielder.

We could also do with an experienced rb and move gomez to cb

Point is that we need to move on players

Ings is great I want him to succeed but its probably best for him to go somewhere and play consistently.

19 Mar 2018 10:01:52

2.0 your points are valid mate I agree but if we treat posters this way they will never ever come back and post

About me wasting your time well that is life mate can't please everyone always

I like you as a poster mate your comments are interesting to read but sometimes telling someone you have wasted my time makes you come across a little ARROGANT.

19 Mar 2018 10:05:26

I don't like Lovren, i don't like players in that way. They are employees of the club, in 10 years time non of these players will be at the club and we will still support Liverpool.

19 Mar 2018 10:13:11

Yes so if 'we' will still be here 'we' all want the same thing which is the league title. For that lovern needs to be replaced along with some of the club favorites, who play decent but not well enough for a title winning team.

I would like to have your perspective 2.0 on where we need to strengthen to be a title challenging team.

19 Mar 2018 10:15:11

sorry, bad start to the day. My apologies. I didn't mean to come across arrogant.

19 Mar 2018 10:19:48

Listen mate no need to apologise, your a top poster imo and most likely a nice guy in real life as well

keep on posting as I enjoy your comments.

19 Mar 2018 10:24:39

Pakred. I don't know how you expect us to challenge for the title mate when you want us to sell a lot of squad/ first team players. I agree some have to go migs and lovern 100%. We want to challenge on all fronts so need to keep the likes of gini (good squad player) Lallana Milner ox Henderson. I get Lallana might move on and Milner if they don't get guarantees about playing time but I think we have a very good squad just missing 3/ 4 players max to take us to the next level.

Ings is a great option to bring on from the bench. Great attitude and workrate only missing goals now which will come. Onto Henderson I really don't get the hate for him. Yes he is not the most glamourous of cm's but more than makes up for it for what he does bring to the table. You don't think he would get into a top 6 midfield? Would walk into arsenals team. Think he would get into Chelsea's midfield beside kante. Same with United beside matic. I would choose him over fernandinho and spurs for me he is much better than dier. I think we are lucky to have him and take this into perspective Chelsea paid 35 million pound for drinkwater who in my opinion isn't half the player hendo is.

I think we need an experienced cb. Alderweireld would be my pick I know it won't happen. See ndidi is being linked again a fav of ed001 and draxler another top drawer player. Add those three and maybe 1 more to what we have and we will be very dangerous next year.

Hi Ed's

I'm curious to know who you would like to see Liverpool sign in the summer. Personally I think we need another CB and DM to really improve the squad.

{Ed0333's Note - Allison, Upamecano, Doucoure, Jorginho, and Pulisic. These signings would create a stirring in my loins. Personally I think we need more than a DM we need a whole new midfield Eire. Thinking about it I’d love Fekir I think he’s a magician and would undoubtedly improve us.

I saw your discussion over on the MU pages about management style etc. just wondered if you are on the same wavelength etc.

I read most of the pages, as i’m sure a lot of us here do, and it seems at the moment that there's a similar split in the MU supporters that there was on these pages before Klopp came in.

Obviously people support their clubs to the very end, I don’t doubt that for one second, but with the top clubs, especially us and Utd i think it seems that rational thinking is kind of skewed by this absolute need to not show any weakness, almost because a large chunk of the thinking behind it is that by doing so it makes you seem inferior to your rivals.

Like i said to some degree it reminds me of the arse-end of Rodgers tenure, we were playing horrible football but some supporters find it hard to be transparent and say it how it really is from fear of showing a dink in their armour. From any other supporters point of view its glaringly obvious, but its like it’s a complete non-goer to concede to virtually any facts if its your team for some people.

As LFC supporters we’ve become absolutely used to not winning sweet FA of late, but every week i watch every game and as long as i can see progress and the games are massively entertaining (which they nearly always are, more so than i can maybe ever remember), i’m actually really happy. Yes titles and cups would be nice, of course…. but if we were playing, extremely pragmatic conservative football week in week out that bored me to death, i’m not sure i’d prefer a trophy a season but having to endure 90mins of watching paint dry just to watch 30minutes of trophy lifting and get a bit less jip off my mates.

I’d rather enjoy the hours and hours of entertainment I get from watching us play brilliant football. Surely, fundamentally, that's what it has to be about? If everyone played this ultra-defensive tactic people would tune out and football would go down the sh*tter?

{Ed001's Note - exactly mate. Football is about entertainment. Yes we want to win too, but if it was purely about winning then we would all be glory hunters and just jump on the bandwagon of the team winning things. There is more to it, because we, over time, develop an emotional attachment to the team we choose, but we would not get into the game in the first place if it did not entertain us, so we would never develop that attachment.

Otherwise we would all be cricket fans if we didn't want to be entertained ;-)

I’m not jumping on anyones back about it at all, I totally get it but in a way it’s a similar thing to having someone criticise your family. You go to any lengths to defend anything negative, even if you end up looking like a bit of a div. We saw the same thing happen in the 2013-14 season when so many opinions denied any kind of logic, skewed by sentimentality and wanting to usurp rivals.

I think if MU fans right now had an option to get another top manager in, nearly all of them would take it. As much as it pains me to say it, they actually deserve better, Mourinho to me needs to go to somewhere like PSG to succeed if his current mentality doesn’t adapt. He either evolves and realises that his ego won’t let him off the hook forever and modernises his tactics or he goes down the easy route of results being a walk in the park. I don’t think he’ll ever dominate the Premier League playing the football he coaches, even with a massive budget. Also the criticism clearly gets to him, and playing the brand of football will never allow that to change, the minging UK press will always be controversial.

{Ed001's Note - exactly mate, this is very similar to when Suarez was an idiot. Tribal instincts kick in.

It is odd how he still lets criticism get to him, you would think he would be used to it after his start as the translator and all the jibes he got.}

18 Mar 2018 13:39:50
Mourinho is a bit of a narcissist IMO - they way he can’t deal with criticism, passes blame onto his own players, looks back on past glories, persists with his philosophy of parking the bus regardless, I expect it will all end in tears in the end just like it did at Chelsea. He’s become less the special one, and more and more the unstable one as time goes on.

Man Utd had an incredible run under Fergie for so many years, they were always going to struggle to find someone to replace him, but Mourinho isn’t the long term answer IMO. I think they’d take Klopp or Pep in a heartbeat.

19 Mar 2018 07:49:22
The problem with mourinho, is he don't care about his players, that's why he never last long at clubs. he proved that at chelsea when 1 of his pkayers went down injured and he flipped at his physio who went to treat him, that was his downfall at chelsea, he wants to win yea, but need to learn to treat his players right, i don't think he that good of a manager either, only goes to clubs with loads of money, then still mess it up like he doing at man utd.

19 Mar 2018 13:18:42
Love it Smallsy. Post of the day. Putting Mourinho's dross to the side, I just love watching us play and so, it seems, does everyone else. Hence, why all of our games are on TV in April and we will be the the most televised team this season. I have had the opinion for a while about excitement over trophies and if you execute exciting football really well, you normally come close (ish) to silverware anyway. Of course there are more factors, but trophies mainly just give you, as a supporter, bragging rights. I'll never forget the City game for the game as whole. We got nothing but 3 points, but that's why I watch football.
