Ed’s serious question, where have all the worlds top strikers gone; remember the 90s 00s they was a surplus of really top strikers, seem few and far between now.

{Ed001's Note - they got old and retired mate. Same happened to Pele and Maradona as well.}

09 Apr 2024 09:30:44
But where is the new generation, there seems a seriously lack of quality of strikers in the majority of leagues and nationalities. Take England for instance apart from harry kane there are no more top class English forwards whereas we had shearer sheringham fowler Cole Owen Ferdinand ect.

Agree0

{Ed001's Note - because everyone is taught the same - how to pass, pass, pass and pass some more and to avoid giving the ball away by doing things like shooting.}

09 Apr 2024 20:15:16
Spot on, Ed01. Strikers back then were mavericks who were allowed to flourish with the talent they had naturally. Coaches built a system that would allow their natural ability to shine.

Now with Haaland as the big example here, he makes the same runs, the same movements all the time cos that’s how Pep wants him to do them hence, he cannot freelance using his natural ability. If he does, Pep is onto him like a rash. Sad.

The case for keeping Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

Have we now mathematically qualified for Champions League football next year?

09 Apr 2024 07:56:05
Technically no because there are currently only 4 spots for the champions league and we are 11 points off 5th with 21 available.

But it is looking increasely likely that there will be an extra spot awarded for the coefficient points due to how well the English teams are progressing in the european competitions but it is not decided yet.

If we do get the 5 spots then yes, we are 22 points infront of Man U in 6th.

If Man City are found guilty of some of the 115 offences, is it realistic that their past Premier League titles maybe stripped? - if so does that mean LFC will 'inherit' 2 PL titles as they finished runners up to them twice?

08 Apr 2024 16:55:49
No that won’t happen.

Agree7

08 Apr 2024 17:00:38
Not a chance. It will probably go down as no one winning it for those years.

£10 pound fine and told to sit on the naughty step which they will appeal and get awarded 3 free pens and 5 offside calls in any games they chose.

Anything less then all titles striped with a ban from Europe for as long as they have cheated is a farce, mite as well say cheating pays off in football if its less would also say jail time would happen in any other business but this is football.

Noted. I’ll keep my opinion (ignorant bile) on the outcome of City’s charges to myself 🫡.

Agree12

08 Apr 2024 19:18:26
If they are striped, which is my best guess based on the number of titles I wouldn't want them passed to us. I'd prefer they go down as no winner. Imagine getting 2 or 3 titles as the second placed team, it just wouldn't sit right imo.

Agree8

08 Apr 2024 19:26:04
Nothing will happen. No point speculating. Cheats always prosper, fact of life. Move on.

Agree5

08 Apr 2024 20:28:33
They’ll probably give them another title just for brown envelopes they’ve all had off them.

By the time their hearing comes around, the PL clubs will have voted to remove the punishment of points deductions.

{Ed025's Note - spot on Paisley..

08 Apr 2024 20:59:47
They should probably be docked 2 points per charge = 230 points 😁.

Agree6

08 Apr 2024 21:13:21
What would be the benefit if they were stripped of their titles and the 2nd places teams retroactively declared the winner? It won't give us fans the experience of having won the two titles we were runner up for. Not really

Although it would make Ole Gunnar Solksjaer a league winning manager. Which is hilarious.

Agree6

08 Apr 2024 21:14:33
Hope not Paisley, only real deterrent for cheats.

Agree3

08 Apr 2024 21:42:37
And Brendan Rogers Sr.

If City don’t win the league this season I wouldn’t be surprised to see them docked like 20 points but they’ll likely have won the CL so will still qualify for it next season and finish like 8th as a punishment and that will be that.

Agree3

08 Apr 2024 21:56:44
Relegation is the best outcome.

08 Apr 2024 22:16:12
Ron, I love that idea. If only mate.

Agree1

08 Apr 2024 22:17:35
I actually would be totally fine with us being awarded them retroactively. If they cheated then them titles should have been ours.
I’m sure in the olympics when they find dopers the medal gets handed down to the next placed athlete? Or did I make that up?
In any case though, the titles are less of an issue for me, throw them straight out the football league altogether for me. 👋🏼.

Agree8

08 Apr 2024 22:25:09
I can see a few more Brown envelopes.

Spread the 230 points over the next 5 seasons.
Take 46 points off this season then start on -46 for each of the next 4 😂.

Didn't think about that JK. Although as limited as I think BR is, Ole winning the league is funnier.

VictorVaughn is usually a bit too negative for me most of the time, but I'm with him on this one. Nothing of any consequence is going to happen to ManCity. At the most a slap on the hand; I even doubt any points deduction, let alone stripping of titles. The owners of ManCity cannot afford or tolerate the slightest mass public embarrasment of any kind, and neither can the FA or Premier League. They will work on it together to ensure minimal damage in the public's mind. It's a 115 count of offences, for God's sake. That's simply huge. I just have doubts anything big will stick on to ManCity.

Having said all that, I do hope they get what they deserve if they are found to be guilty of those offences.

It's all just very curious to me, because I am not from the football establishment and simply a distant observer. With offences dating back to the 21/ 22 season, Everton have swiftly been penalized with point deductions, twice, and have high chances of being relegated. ManCity with offences dating back t least a decade are still to face the music. Again, I don't know the exact reasons, but just imagine me sitting here with raised eyebrows and a smirk on my face.

Agree0

{Ed001's Note - Everton's case was about submitted accounts wherein they admitted failing to adhere to ffp. Man City have been systematically covering up offences and submitting false accounts. Unlike Everton, they have lied about their guilt, when everyone knows they are guilty, but that requires it to be proven, rather than it just being a judgement required.}

09 Apr 2024 16:56:04
Yes we will be awarded any years we finished runners up and any matches we lost to City will become null and void and points added to any seasons total accordingly There will also be an open top bus parade through the city to celebrate these previous years titles.

Agree0

09 Apr 2024 17:33:29
My understanding was they were already found guilty but the process took so long nothing can now be done. Hence they introduced a fast track system which is now being used to punish Everton, Forest and potentially Leicester? Might have that entirely wrong but I'm sure that's what some of the eds said.

Agree0

09 Apr 2024 21:36:28
Wyred we wouldn't be a second place we would be champions because they should not of won the titles they aledgedly cheated i would take both titles with a blink of an eye mate and so would man u . So stop being so rightous mate.

As frustrating as it was to drop 2 points against a team we should have won, we are still in the title race, very much so.

I think Arsenal will drop points in at least one game and even if City win all their games, we MUST win all our remaining 7 games - tough to do but I think we will do it - just. Regardless of yesterday and poor finishing plus mistakes, we are still playing exceptionally well.

At the beginning of the season, I would have bitten your hand off where we are now - 1 trophy in the bag and challenging for the title in probably the most exciting race for years. I would have settled for a trophy and top four this season (of course we did not know JK was leaving).

08 Apr 2024 16:44:40
BS (no pun intended, btw), that's the spirit, man. The Utd game hurts BUT it's gone now so no point being all sore about it. We have to look to the next game now vs Atalanta in the EL. Had we lost to Utd then for sure, that would have been severely damaging on a psychological level. City are still behind us and Arsenal are top on GD. Bro, it could have been worse if you look at things overall

After this week, all 3 clubs have their chances of winning the title intact rgardless and that is why the rescued point yesterday is that important, IMO.

The only thing we screwed up is that the margin for error we had has now gone with 7 games to play which I was hoping would be prolonged for longer. Alas, it did not happen. Now, it is time to act and get it done. Right now, it's win all 7 or bust. It is what it is.

@Davey Sulls, will you start the countdown?

Crazily we have scored the most goals this season out of any team in the top 5 leagues.

Yes a big factor of this is down to us scoring 28 goals in the Europa but we’re still 2nd top scorers in the league and have Salah who is 3rd top scorer and Nunez 12th, Jota 15th Diaz 23rd top scorers in the league.

Whilst missing chances seems to be out problem id say a bigger one is not keeping clean sheets. We don't have to score lots of goals past teams and 1 nil wins would still get us 3 points.

We've only managed to keep 9 clean sheets this season which is the same as Everton. If we shut up shop better then that will take the pressure off the forwards.

08 Apr 2024 19:27:52
Two things, I’ve stuck a fiver on us beating Palace 8-0 (what’s the worst that could happen? ) . Second, JK is 100% correct. Stop conceding sloppy goals, stop letting teams have a chance, then we give ourselves a chance.

Agree5

08 Apr 2024 22:33:46
Agreed JK and VV.
Klopp’s philosophy is almost like NBA.
Throw men forward high risk high reward.

Bet on our defenders and keeper being able to keep them out.

It’s entertaining for sure, but I think it might soon have had its day.

Agree2

09 Apr 2024 06:15:25
I agree, giving sloppy goals has been our issue. Keeping clean sheet will help us win games.

Agree0

09 Apr 2024 09:13:19
Thats why I can't see us winning all our remaining games. Arsenal are far better defensively and more clinical then us. And City are just a crazy squad.
If we are talking about dropping points, only we look like the team that will
Arsenal are blasting teams away, and city will always get a result, into their usually strongest period of the year.
We however will always concede against anyone.

The match yesterday was the same as the quarter final, should ave been out of sight by half time Poor finishing cost us. Quansha big mistake, but think what he has done for us this season. One mistake does not a bad player make. We are joint top, plenty of points to play for, just believe.

08 Apr 2024 16:48:14
howmuch1, I would never blame a kid for costing us a game. Frankly had the senior players and our fowards esp. done their jobs then, it should never have gotten to that to begin with.

I'd sooner blame them than blame Quansah who btw after his mistake, went back to being brilliant as he was before it. The title race is by NO means over and all 3 teams kept their chances of victory intact for another week. One to Atalanta.

Agree7

08 Apr 2024 18:35:15
I am loathe to apportion blame to any individuals for yesterdays result, but my son asked if Alison would have stopped any of those two goals yesterday, I told him that given where the keeper was for the first goal no one could have saved it. Maybe Ali would have been further to his left and saved the second one.
What does everybody think?

Agree0

08 Apr 2024 19:52:43
Langland, Kellerher was outside of the box as he is supposed to be when in possesion. Quansah gave the ball away, Bruno hit it first time and had Kellerher (who dived for it with his hands up) touched and actually saved it, he would have been sent off and we would have had Adrian in goal for the next 3 games at least.

Had Ali been there, I don't think he saves it even tho, he would have had to head the ball if he were to be outside the box like Kellerher was. Just my take.

Agree1

08 Apr 2024 20:25:41
Kelleher was positioned to give Quansah the option of a pass back to him. It is what it is and very little point in apportioning blame. Their player took the chance well. Sometimes sh#t happens 🤷‍♂️.

Agree2

08 Apr 2024 21:43:34
Will be a good learning curve for Quansah. He gave a few risky passes away early when there was no need.

Lads been brilliant this season and will be a better player for it.
