Bayern Munich is an easy job that anyone with the most average knowledge of football could do. The fear for any manager coming into Liverpool is that we are one of the biggest clubs in the world and following in Klopp's footsteps won’t be easy. But by gum has Klopp left the club in a perfect state for the next boss.

26 Mar 2024 14:40:44
I would hope that any manager coming in to replace Klopp would be confident enough in their own ability to take us to the next level rather than being compared to the previous manager and being scared to do the job.

As you say, on the pitch we're in a pretty good state. Who wouldn't want to get their hands on our squad and put their own stamp on it!?

Agree3

26 Mar 2024 16:36:08
If you don't think nor back yourself enuff to do the job at LFC, one of the biggest clubs in the world (regardless of Klopp's immense foot print) then please, you need not apply for the position. It's that simple.

Agree4

26 Mar 2024 17:41:04
If the Bayern job is so easy why aren't they currently strolling away at the top of the table?

Agree3

26 Mar 2024 18:07:07
"Bayern Munich is an easy job that anyone with the most average knowledge of football could do. "

Wow, just wow. 😂.

Agree3

26 Mar 2024 19:06:57
Just ask Thomas Tuchel.

Agree4

26 Mar 2024 20:29:48
Spot on ArAy - the original statement made me laugh.

As an aside, I would hope that the next manager, whilst showing respect for what’s gone before, would be totally focussed on what they want to do for the future. The king is dead, long live the king.

Having just read a BBC article on Hansi Flick, I got to wondering how well suited he would be for Liverpool. Would he be a good fit, and if so is he a viable option?

25 Mar 2024 07:00:15
He’s not been in work since getting sacked from the Germany job, which was an absolute train wreck. He’s way past his sell by date, he should be in the dregs pile with Nagelsmann, Tuchel, De Zerbi etc.

Agree6

25 Mar 2024 09:05:10
For the millionth time, stop exaggerating @Victor.

Alonso or nothing isn’t a sensible plan.

Agree20

25 Mar 2024 10:29:19
WDW is right, we all want Alonso but have to be open to the idea of someone else coming in, there's no guarantee we get Alonso. If we don't then I don't know who I'd want but not thinking that far ahead, let's just enjoy the season whilst we still have Klopp.

Agree15

25 Mar 2024 12:08:46
Now now WDW, Victor has a backup plan: Diego Simeone.

Or at least that's the only other manager apart from Alonso I've seen him say anything about other than 'he's not good enough'.

Agree4

25 Mar 2024 12:09:47
Might as well get Lijnders. Flick (forever the assistant at Bayern or at Germany) did his best work as an assistant who later took over at Bayern, won the treble in 19/ 20, got the job permanently, messed up. Got the Germany job and then, messed up. I think I've just about covered it.

Agree2

25 Mar 2024 13:23:06
I’d be happy with Nagelsmann. It doesn’t bother me what he got up to we a reporter. I think he would be a decent option.

Agree9

25 Mar 2024 13:44:47
I personally want Roger Schmidt. I think our squad is more suited to the way he plays. He also has a lot more experience than Xabi.

Not saying I don't want Xabi, he just isn't my first choice. Ruben Amorim would be my 2nd choice as well. Xabi is probably my 3rd choice though after Schmidt and Amorim.

Agree7

25 Mar 2024 14:09:47
Roger Schmidt’s CV doesn’t fill me with optimism. However, neither does Alonso’s.

It is such a difficult role to appoint the right person for. I am quite excited to see the outcome.

Agree3

25 Mar 2024 15:55:08
Interest viewpoint, MK. Not one I agree with, but life's all about opinion. You've put forward a name I haven't seen mentioned before. It's always been Alonso for me, though my knowledge of European managers is slim.

Agree2

25 Mar 2024 15:56:29
German national team are and have been for many years been awful hansy stepped in when it was all going tits up after winning a treble at Bayern and was the hottest property around i think he would suite us to replace Klopp if Mr Edwards wanted it.

Agree2

25 Mar 2024 16:23:18
What's up, MKS! Ain't seen you for a while. Hope all is well. Schmidt? You mean the manager who signed a young Sadio Mane at RB Salzburg in 2013 or so? Now that's a blast from the past, lol. Nah, not for me. He's old news. About a decade ago? Maybe.

Agree2

25 Mar 2024 16:27:45
@IR, Not arsed about Nagelsmann and his personal scruples either BUT he ain't it for me. Seems he takes any job that comes his way regardless of who it is (he was going to take the Chelsea job right after the Bayern job till Poch got it) and frankly, I think he lacks the humility to be a steward of our great club. Seems a bit pompous in his comments since his Hoff. days and that rubs me the wrong way.

Decent? Nah, we can do a lot better than decent, IMO and Alonso is the guy. Now if he is not available (which is his choice) then, I guess it could be Amorim and I can't talk about him cos I don't know him. Oh, and De Zerbi (who has made Brighton literally worse) can stay exactly where he is at Brighton and keep the heck away from my club, as well. Just my take.

Agree2

25 Mar 2024 17:30:38
Hansi Flick is up there on my options.

Certainly behind Alonso who is clearly first choice but ahead of De Zerbi, Naglesmann and others.

Probably third on my list.

I'd probably go
Alonso
Amorim
Flick

In that order.

Agree3

25 Mar 2024 19:35:02
Amorim would be a decent option 👍🏻.

Agree2

25 Mar 2024 21:36:19
I agree with Davey, my top 3 would be Alonso, Amorim and Flick in that order.

Agree3

25 Mar 2024 22:02:02
Amorim would be the better option.

Agree3

25 Mar 2024 22:14:00
Im not so sure about Herr Flick myself, I along with most people hope that Xabi will grant us a potential fairytale.
I think that Liverpool have a great squad that he would make good use of and the big advantage he has for me is that he knows the league and the rigorous demands of it.

Agree1

25 Mar 2024 22:17:11
Schmidt, De Zerbi, Flick, Nagelsmann are at best a smorgasbord of mediocrity not one of them are even remotely fit to take the job. Schmidt’s CV is hardly inspiring and has fail written all over him it would be just another Roy Hodgson type appointment, De Zerbi has made Brighton worse, his teams can’t defend at all, Flick has only ever had success with the best team in the league with unlimited resources and has been found out for his lack of ability in the Germany job, Nagelsmann is an appalling option, tactically inept, an opinion of his own ability which far exceeds his ability, vain beyond belief, showed extremely poor judgement by leaking personal stories about his players to the journalist he was having an affair with and let’s not of course forget that he slagged us off in the press saying he has no respect for us as a club - in no way is that man suitable for the post. He’s like Brendan Rodgers. Another imbecile who believed his own hype. If we end up with any of those listed above then we’re in for a difficult 18 months until we get rid.

Agree1

25 Mar 2024 23:31:03
Oh no, Victor is going all Sander Berge/ Adama Traore on us again.

Agree8

26 Mar 2024 04:33:46
While that is a lot of exaggeration and hyperbole, I can somewhat understand where VV is coming from. Alonso is just seemingly a cut above the rest that it does feel like we would have failed if we don't manage to bring him on board. Still, there is a bunch of other clubs who are looking at new managers too so it's definitely not a certainty that he would join us.

Of those names listed, I would dislike De Zerbi and Nagelsmann joining us. Like VV mentioned, I think that De Zerbi is slowly bringing Brighton backwards and Nagelsmann is giving me Rodgers' vibes. I would not want either of them as manager.

Schmidt and Flick though I would be open to as secondary options. They seem to have quite a good record in club football and have won things wherever they went.

Emre at villa is my realistic choice after alonso. But if Madrid give carlo the boot for alonso my dream is to grab him. class manager!

Agree3

26 Mar 2024 09:46:14
The childish bit of me would like to see Herr Flick as manager, but I have a soft spot for crap BBC ‘end of the pier’ comedy.

Agree2

26 Mar 2024 12:23:19
Tbf, I kind of agree with Victor about de Zerbi. He doesn't convince me at all.

Genuinely don't know enough about the likes of Flick and Nagelsmann to judge them.

Agree1

26 Mar 2024 12:59:47
Rsanchez69, i think Carlo Ancelotti becoming our next manager would be the ultimate plot twist that no-one saw coming.

Agree4

26 Mar 2024 13:16:29
Alonso and then Amorim for me. Article from BBC a little while back giving stats on the most likely candidates.

Agree2

26 Mar 2024 13:27:30
I have no idea how anyone understands a word Emre says it is near impossible. Would be frustrating for a player. I think Victors post is spot on just as he was with Berge and Traore. Good managers are rare only Alonso and Amorim are noteworthy. I very much doubt Liverpool are daft enough to employ De Zerbi so I wouldn’t worry about that.

Agree1

26 Mar 2024 17:44:43
I think Girona's Michel is an excellent coach and from what I've seen would be a very good fit.

Agree0

27 Mar 2024 11:39:48
Don’t City group own Girona? If Michel impresses then he might very well be in line for Citeh when Guardiola decides to move on and - God forbid - try and use talent rather than endless pots of money to achieve success.

This premier league needs to be investigated by independent investigators, because isn't this league becoming similar to FIFA under Blater and Platini?

25 Mar 2024 01:53:21
Well FIFA is back to being just as bad imo. Remember, power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Agree9

25 Mar 2024 05:21:17
andrew jennings is one of the best journos i've ever read. All he cared about was finding the truth. If he was alive today he would be absolutely nailing Infantino to the wall. Can just imagine what he wouldve made of Cefarin screwing up the Champions league in Paris not to mention how he tried to manipulate the investigation into Mancity.

Agree8

26 Mar 2024 18:04:58
Premier League is run by rules set, and enforced, by the FA. The FA is a member of FIFA. So why the suprise? Premier League can see all the things that the FA and FIFA are getting away with, so might as well join the gang.

Long time reader, first post.

American here that will be coming to the UK for the first time (England, Wales, and Scotland) to see Liverpool play Sheffield United and Man U during the trip. I was hoping y'all could help give me a local's perspective on a few general things to know for our trip.

Any food recommendations to check out? We will be in London, Liverpool, Manchester, and York. Really want to get good fish and chips during our stay.

Best places for grocery shopping?

Best pubs in Liverpool to watch a game during the week?

Any good places to check out besides the normal "touristy" places most websites call out?

Any other helpful things you'd like to recommend we appreciate it.

Thanks guys!

{Ed025's Note - hi Lawilt,welcome aboard mate

in london Camden town is great for pubs imo
if you are in the city centre Einstein in Concert square is very good to watch the game in liverpool.
when in York you must visit the "Shambles"
try and visit Goodison park, its iconic, and Bramley Moore on the dock will become the best ground in the world.. :)

25 Mar 2024 01:53:31
Keep your eye out for Goodison, you could easily mistake it for Tranmere's ground, but no, it is actually home to a PL side :)

Agree10

25 Mar 2024 01:58:51
Try to drive up onto the Yorkshire Moors while visiting York. Some great pubs and ales. Whitley Bay is a great day out (weather permitting) and you should find good fish and chips there. Have to try Theakston Old Peculiar ale; their website has good information on it.

York is steeped in Nordic history and has some amazing sites and lots of museums etc.

If you’re hungry in London, Hawksmoor (for steak) and Bleecker Burger are both worth a visit. The Rake in Borough Market is a must if you like craft beer.

If you want some culture try the Whitechapel and Serpentine galleries, as opposed to the big name alternatives. Both free admission.

Agree0

25 Mar 2024 09:08:43
Sorry, just …. can’t …… stop ……………myself………

Isn’t Goodison a shambles?

Agree4

{Ed025's Note - i like that WDW, but when the "old lady"is gone we will all miss it mate, like it or not it is iconic and a throwback to the days when football was fun and free from corruption..."memories are made of this".. :)

25 Mar 2024 14:35:10
Said it b4 but the games gone imo. Ruined by money and corruption. Makes it a lot less appealing.

Agree1

25 Mar 2024 14:42:47
I second Hawksmoor for steak. Also, Gordon's wine bar is excellent, can't book so arrive quite early to get a table. Also, The Ned is an interesting bar and worth a visit.

Agree Ed25. Used to love the Derbies and the banter and going to the match with members of the family - some red and the daft ones blue. Of course some of the games were poor and sometimes it rained and was bitterly cold but the memories are nearly all good. It’ll be a shame to see Goodison go.

Agree1

{Ed025's Note - halcyon days indeed WDW, shame that its not the same anymore mate because of the idiots..

25 Mar 2024 18:36:36
Where in Wales are you going Law?

We'll be going to Alnwick Castle and Query Karts, will probably stop at a few other castles along the way.

Agree0

25 Mar 2024 21:18:56
Alnwick Castle is a great visit. It's the same castle that's in the beginning of Blackadder if you ever watched that. Great series. While you're up that way Barmburgh Castle is great too.

There’s a Hawksmoor in Liverpool in the stunning India building. In Liverpool, if you’re a Beatles fan check out the casbah in west Derby where Pete Best’s mum used to live and the Beatles used to play, and while you’re in the area you can go and see Melwood, it’s about a 3 min drive away.
There’s great pubs like the roscoe head in town, proper little old place that does great beers. Peter kavanaghs is another good pub as is the Blackburn arms, you could do a little pub crawl. If you’re going to penny lane there’s a nice little restaurant called Spire just by it.
If you’ve got a bit of money you could go to the art school or if you’re really pushing the boat out you can go to Moor Hall. Maybe also head over to Chester for a day, nice little place, treat the mrs to afternoon tea in the Grosvenor and walk the Roman walls.
There’s tons to do, enjoy.

25 Mar 2024 23:31:21
Regarding Manchester; for food there are places like Tattu, hawksmoore or dishoom which are more upmarket. But alternatively crazy pedros (pizza / bar), almost famous, or federal (brunch) are good shouts…genuinely can’t think of a good Chippy in central Manchester…

Bar wise atlas is a good gin bar situated beneath a rail line, Albert schloss, oast house or roxys (bar with loads of games etc) are good. Ppl joke but if just want to see BPL games and city play at home whilst there can probably get ticket….

The Robbie Fowler mural is a thing of beauty and totally deserved.

I watched the legends game yesterday and the club and its supporters did Sven proud.

It was obviously a very emotional day for him, but at least one of his wishes was fulfilled.

I wish him all the best and truly admire the fact he is dealing with his situation with class and dignity.

28 Mar 2024 09:13:01
Spot on KK7. I think you speak for a lot of us there. Sven is as cool as they come.

What is everyone's opinion on rescheduling the derby game in berween 2 other away games, one of which is another 12.30 kick off. That means 3 away games in 6 days which is crazy.

Fulham, Everton and West Ham.

I know we have to fit the derby in somewhere, but I think there are better options.

24 Mar 2024 13:34:16
3 games in 6 days is always going to be tough regardless of where they are. The fact the 3 are away is going to be a bigger ask but if there is a silver lining then one of the away games is within walking distance of a home game so travel shouldn’t be a factor.

Games coming thick as fast is the down side of a team being successful. In the 6 days we have these fixtures City and arsenals are slightly better as they have 3 games each in 8.

In 27 days of April we have 8 games which works out a game every 3 and a half days.

Arsenal have 8 in 28 days and City have 9 games in 28 days so City actually have the worst fixture schedule of the 3 teams In April.

Agree10

24 Mar 2024 15:17:45
KBL, it is what it is. They had to fit the game somewhere, right? For me, at least we now know when all the games in in the PL and CL will be played and the great thing here is that we will have all our players back by mid April (I think) so we have fresh legs to rotate and attack all the games with high levels of energy and determination. Let the games begin.

Agree0

24 Mar 2024 15:17:51
The club knows how to manage times like this, we have a good squad with brilliant depth, and that depth has been tested this year and came flying through it. So not worried about the fixture list.

Agree5

24 Mar 2024 19:14:44
It's actually four away games on the bounce w Atalanta away first. If we have an almost fully fit squad I'm not too worried. Everton don't have the squad to play 3 times in a week so for me that's advantage us. Everton also have Forest home before they play us. That's much more a must win (or must not lose) game for them than getting a result against us. Hopefully we can start the run with a good win at home to Atalanta in the first leg. West Ham have only 1 less game than us in April so they'll be in a similar situation to us. Hopefully they go through and have a focus on the EL rather than the PL. Biggest worry if Fulham away. Good side, the new striker Munoz looks very good. That for me is the biggest of those four games away.

Agree1

24 Mar 2024 19:32:02
My sentiments exactly, Mikey.

Agree1

24 Mar 2024 19:58:40
Everton have a 9 day break before they play Forest, which is a massive advantage before we play them. Hopefully we can get some players back and they get up to speed asap.

Agree2

25 Mar 2024 13:48:02
Can i also point out that the main issue with away games in succession is the travel. I don't think there is too much in the way of a travel issue commuting to Goodison Park 😂 it's as good as having a mid week home game if people stop bleating for long enough to be objective.

Been enjoying the legends match, so far.

Nice to know the Liverpool injury curse is not specific to our first team stars, but our legends as well. Because that needed to be a thing. And Aurelio too, who had nothing but bad luck with injury, great player though.

Always a good laugh these matches, to see your legends who you idolized and tried to replicate become far older men with big bellies and co-ordination I attribute to toddlers. Age is rarely kind. Although, seeing Skrtel trying to play out from the back, while racing towards a terrified Dudek, had me rolling.

On a genuinely heartwarming note, seeing the combinations between Gerrard and Torres, allowing me to reminisce about my own childhood and how big a part both were, was an unexpected but welcome period. And then Maxi doing his utmost to score every time he touches the ball, when both are in better positions bringing me back down to earth :P

Although, the highlight of all highlights had to be Jay Spearing getting absolutely cooked by a 70 year old man, I couldn't breath man. I swear he's still on our books too.

23 Mar 2024 16:43:37
I always find that in the legends games the more technically gifted players stand out, now that age has levelled the playing field to a degree in terms of fitness and pace.

Fowler, despite his "dimensions", has played well in quite a lot of legends games. Hyypia is standing out today.

Agree3

Apparently Daniel Agger hasn't played football since retiring, but didn't look rusty at all. If only he was able to stay fit when he was playing!

Agree3

24 Mar 2024 19:23:25
Agger's body let him down badly, can't say I'm surprised he doesn't play outside of stuff like the legends games. I'm fairly sure he said that by the end of his time here he had to eat loads of painkillers to get through games, even when he was "fit".

He just wouldn't be able to take playing football regularly at any level.
