Credit must be given tonight to Everton, their game plan was effective and we had no answer.
Congrats Ed025 you look save now.

{Ed025's Note - i hope so Dave...cheers mate..

24 Apr 2024 23:00:40
Yep we were beaten by the better team and no complaints. Klopp looks like a beaten man!

Agree10

{Ed025's Note - i dont think we were the better side Longthing, i just think we wanted it more mate..

24 Apr 2024 23:01:38
Well done ed25,use fully deserved the win.

Agree2

{Ed025's Note - you had chances Digger but again the finishing was awful mate, we possibly deserved it because of the effort we put in..nice one..

24 Apr 2024 23:16:09
I thought klopps subs were very strange tonight. We were supposed to be going for the league so why bring on 4 defensive players. There were kids on the bench that are desperate to show what they can do so at 2-0 why not just let them have a go or was Klopp scared of getting beaten even more.

I bet Everton's midfield were licking their lips at the sight of Mac, Szob and Jones in midfield.
From the beginning of the season we haven't focused enough on defending.
TAA comes back in and it gets worse!
He's been told to vacate the right back position and is half hearted when he is in position to make a challenge.
When we don't defend and don't finish our chances we were never going to win the League.

Two poor teams out there today.
Everton’s tactic of falling over like a wet fish anytime they were in our half combined with a pitifully soft referee gave them endless dead ball situations which is how they score goals. TAA showed no interest in defending anything either so Everton deserved their win.
Liverpool’s tactic of lumping the ball long and slowing down every counter attack by passing backwards meant they deserved to get nothing out of the game.
Its a poor end to the season and Klopp looks utterly lost right now. Salah is stealing a living, Nunez is getting progressively worse, Alexander-Arnold needs to have zero defensive duties.
Congrats to Everton but Liverpool are currently looking like a sick dog that needs to be put out of its misery. Klopp is leaving possibly a year too late but fingers crossed the next manager can come in and add some energy and enthusiasm into a talented but down-trodden team.

Pathetic from Liverpool. Everton deserved the 3pts. we had nothing. no fight. you'd think we was miles away from the title . I can't wait for the new manager to come in n get rid of the front 3. iv got so much to say but end of the day I'm gutted n nothing will make a difference. at least we be in champs league. that's the only bonus.

I must say I honestly enjoyed this derby, the first 30mins especially, more than most others in the last few years
It brought back memories
The atmosphere was great, chances on both ends, lots of 50-50s players had to fight for
And from then you knew if we can’t finish, Everton will win because they were up for it whole game
Was annoyed at some of their diving around and referee giving away free kicks too easily, more annoyed at the latter, but you did except some gamesmanship in these games
Congrats to Everton and Ed025 for winning the game and securing safety
Sadly, we were not up for it and now our title challenge is over. I think Klopp was really honest when he announced he was leaving. He had ran out of energy, and possibly ideas. Man is legend and he needs to move on and rest.
Looking forward to the reset next season.

So much for the mentality monsters. Klopps leaving and prior to the Cup game against United we had the title in ours hands, since then we've fallen apart in all comps and this with our full squad basically back.

Things that need sorted by the new manager

Vvd needs a proper defender beside him who's not going to get injured every other game

Trent is not a defender and has never been. Either play him in midfield or sell him for 120 million and buy.

We need a proper DM to protect the defence.

We also need at least 2 strikers who can actually score. Salah is a legend and I will always love him but he's done, get as much as we can from the Suads and buy.

Agree2

25 Apr 2024 06:30:27
Sgynwa klopp looks tired and needs a rest, I'm tired and need a rest but I can't get it because I love in the real world, highly paid wants for nothing and this is the excuse? These people need to get in the real world and do a proper days graft and then they'll know what to tired is, instead of just sitting there at the end with a gormless grin watching the game play out while making bizarre substitutions. These people are not gods they are very well paid who live in a bubble, you are allowed to o criticise them.

I wouldn’t say you wanted it more Ed I just think we are playing nervously at the minute and goals change games.

If Nunez and/ or Diaz score their chances we gain confidence and it’s a different game. As it was we started to think ‘oh no not again’ and that made us even more tense and nervous.

We are nervous on the ball, nervous in the tackle and nervous in front of goal. Nobody wants to take responsibility so they pass it slowly sideways and backwards to keep possession then when we lose it we don’t win it back quickly enough and when we create chances we snatch at them.

Then the second goal just killed any confidence we had left.

I feared for this game because lately we’ve been very nervous and passive which you just can’t be in a derby. Atalanta bullied us and a thought Everton could do the same. As it happened you did to a point but every time we gave you something back the ref gave you a free kick. I could see why Klopp was livid in the first half the ref was a joke.

That said we basically handed you the first goal on a plate and didn’t take some really good chances we had so we deserved nothing from the game. We played right into your hands which is concerning when every man and his dog knows how Dyche plays football. We did nothing to stop it, so we got exactly what we deserved.

Agree1

{Ed025's Note - you were nervous BP but the reason we got more free kicks is that we were quicker to the ball mate, for me you played the wrong team and dont get me started on the substitutions, i think Jurgen may have lost the plot, not only with the constant moaning but there seems a lack of motivation and belief, that last night did not look like a side that is challenging for the title to me..

25 Apr 2024 00:11:49
Everton were slightly worse than average but they were easily the best team on the night.

Liverpool were dire. They never laid a glove on Everton.

Congrats Ed025 👏.

Agree1

{Ed025's Note - it was more about a poor Liverpool performance than a good one from Everton Ron, yes we battled hard but it looks like some of your players have downed tools im afraid mate..

25 Apr 2024 05:37:44
Cheers Ed25, a good one for you. We are so bad Everton fully deserved to win. Can't believe this is how Klopp last season going to end. Kinda sad for Klopp to be honest.

Agree1

{Ed025's Note - it is sad that you seem to be going out with a whimper mfahmee, i thought the announcement of Klopp leaving might inspire the team, but it seems it has had the opposite effect mate..

25 Apr 2024 07:13:03
I agree Ed025 the Klopp announcement looks like it’s taking affect now probably just human nature to think this manager now has no impact on the future so what’s the point. Not saying they have downed tools out of spite but subconsciously it must be an issue
Well played EFC thoroughly deserved the win
Up the pool.

25 Apr 2024 07:14:23
You can't blame Everton or the ref for the free kicks. That's what happens when you can't tackle, are too slow to challenge and panic by hanging a leg out or pushing the opponent in the back. They played into Everton's hands.
That Liverpool side wasn't capable of playing fast counter attacking football. Or a possession based game either, for that matter.

Agree2

25 Apr 2024 07:16:55
All over the place in midfield and defence, Mac as a number 6 simply doesn’t work and he’s being played out of position, Jones and Szobo offered nothing, Jones in particular was a passenger. Defending was dire, both centre backs not taking any responsibility or leadership, fullbacks were both poor, but TAA was particularly guilty of poor defending and dereliction of his duties. As for the attackers, well they may as well not have played. All it showed is that a lot of work and difficult decisions are needed in the summer. I’d happily sell Diaz, Salah, Nunez, Jones, TAA, Robertson, VVD at this point and bring in two new wingers, a new striker, a new defensive midfielder, new centre defender, new left back and promote Bradley at this point.

Agree1

25 Apr 2024 07:38:44
Mac as a number 6 simply doesn’t work and he’s being played out of position,

You keep repeating this under every thread. who exactly do you want to play there may I know? Endo? he would be bullied left right and throuh center.

Agree1

25 Apr 2024 09:19:50
Thebeekeeper, on the basis of the entire season it’s a matter of irrefutable fact that Mac isn’t a number 6. The only player we have who is able to play there is Endo, and it looks like his legs are going. The harsh reality is that we didn’t adequately replace Fabinho and are paying the price at the business end of the season. We’re a soft touch in midfield and opponents know this. If you legitimately believe that Mac is effective at number 6 then I can’t help you. The evidence is clear to see that he’s being asked to do something which isn’t in his game. The summer before last we should have started replacing our midfield, but we left it til last summer and it looks like we’ve done a half arsed job. Unfortunately not everything is rosy in the garden and lots of difficult decisions on the squad need to be made,

ED25, we didn't want it with you guys and that on us and on you guys for taking the fight to us. Well deserved, for sure.

Agree0

{Ed025's Note - but i still question the integrity of both sets of players Oli, we went to the Bridge a couple of weeks back and were humiliated 6-0 with virtually the same team, and you cant tell me mate that your players gave their all yesterday either, you have far superior players but in the last 5 weeks seem to have lost all belief and passion, they are kidding the balls off us im afraid..

24 Apr 2024 22:24:30
Well done to ed25 enjoy the win, fully deserved. Seasons over look forward to a new dawn.

{Ed025's Note - thanks Andy, i think we wanted it more mate..

24 Apr 2024 23:35:37
Agreed Ed25 you were 100% more hungry for it, and tbh it was deserved, you take a lot of flack on here from the red side but you’re always damn good with the banter. But best team won today.

I for one love the derby and don’t want Everton going down, 3 points in the board for you against your biggest rivals = a great night for Everton and a humbling night for us reds!

Agree1

{Ed025's Note - it was a massive surprise to me Andy, how good we were and how bad the reds played, i expected nothing from tonight mate..but in the end the real Liverpool never turned up im afraid..

25 Apr 2024 03:00:38
Congrats Ed25, I hope this gives you soke solitude and for a few days at least you can hold your head up hig around town.

Agree0

{Ed025's Note - i think thats us safe now John, its miles from the performance against Chelsea mate but you did make it easy for us..

25 Apr 2024 08:44:23
Last night was a horrible result but the performance was not great either, but these results have been coming we can't keep conceding the first goal and getting back into games. We looked a team that reflects our manager at the moment lack of energy and running on empty Injuries have caught up with us . I don't think anyone played well Diaz gave it a go and i thought Robertson was ok, Salah is really struggling and looks unfit plus we never seem to pass it to him anymore, But top 3 and a cup would have been accepted by all of us at the season start, hopefully the close season will reinvigorate everyone so let's keep going . YNWA oh and i have to say well done to that Blue team they wanted it more.

Before some of the keyboard warriors come out to slate the team etc, just wanted to say congrats to Ed25.

However we think Liverpool played, Everton wanted it more, were better and deserved the win.

Klopp starting to look like me when I resigned from a job and had to work a 3 month notice ha!

{Ed025's Note - cheers JimJam, we worked very hard mate and you look like a team that has run out of ideas im afraid..

24 Apr 2024 23:26:19
Haven’t you just keyboard warrior’d the keyboard warriors first with your nice little underhand dig?

Agree5

25 Apr 2024 00:58:41
Spot on, jimjam. Honestly, we just look empty. Few lads pulling out of 50/ 50s is a sign they just can't get up for it. The belief's gone. You run at 99% in the PL, and you're going to get your pants pulled down, I'm afraid. That's what's happening at the moment, I think.

I feel for the boss. Nothing's working anymore.

Agree0

25 Apr 2024 01:05:49
Keyboard warriors? Nice try.
The team is getting slated because they’ve let a hugely promising season fizzle out into a reasonable one (trophy + top 4) in the space of a month, looking gradually worse and worse while our once-inspirational coach has looked and sounded like he couldn’t care less.
Not this time, pal. The team deserves to be slated for what they’ve done.

Agree4

25 Apr 2024 01:06:28
The Everton players were certainly good at falling over last night? They had 11 Tom Daleys on the pitch and the ref in their back pocket. We were absolutely awful though and didn’t deserve anything from the game.

{Ed033's Note - We had to, to stop any trolls.

24 Apr 2024 22:12:14
Ok makes sense. How do I get on the waiting list?
Having said that, I would have just moaned tonight so perhaps it was a blessing in disguise! 😂.

Agree1

{Ed033's Note - You're now on the waiting list. I'll add you tomorrow.

24 Apr 2024 22:28:15
Was there a game tonight?

Did anyone tell Klopp and the players?

Agree8

24 Apr 2024 22:40:56
You couldn't do anything but moan after that, RedA.
Almost all of that team is unable to tackle. I've never bought into that new midfield since the season began.

Agree1

24 Apr 2024 22:47:27
Moaning is partly what it's for RedA. That and a space to have a back and forth with a community of regular attendees. You'd be more than welcome. That game was the worst thing I've seen since last Thursdays game and then the weekend one and then the Thursday before one. Seriously what has happened to us? Mental.

Agree3

25 Apr 2024 00:23:31
I agree rigsby, I think our midfield has always been suspect under klopp but at least hendo Fabinho and wijnaldum brought something to the team which enabled the attack and defence to do what they needed to do to dominate. Now it’s just something the defence and attack have to carry and hide its flaws, and when the individual brilliance couldn’t save us anymore, we buckled like most rational fans knew would happen. You could see it brewing with the performances, but some just fall for the romantic side of things rather than logic. That midfield was never good enough, not at the elite level where arsenal and city are at anyway.

They say the table never lies and it well and truly did when we were top as long as we were. Arsenal for me have been the best team out of the 3 and deserve to win the league, but city once again rubbishhoused it with every advantage they need to win the league year in year out.

Agree1

25 Apr 2024 07:32:21
You're right, Kman.
Fab, Henderson, Wijnaldum and even Milner were capable of winning the ball back and strong enough to hold onto it. Add to that Salah, Mane and Firminho were also able to do it.
To be fair, the midfielders' legs went a bit but we also decided to bring in players like Thiago, Elliott and Carvalho who are not going to win the ball back. And in the summer Szob and Grav come in and they are the same. We did sign a bargain basement ball winner in Endo and he's done ok but he's not going to win us the League.
We're a top four side at best and we have accrued a lot of points without playing well which, hopefully, should stand us in good stead.

“That’s why I can be very frustrated when a referee even makes the slightest mistake to your disadvantage. This can have so much influence while you’re not able to control anything. All preparation can be ruined because of a referee mistake. This can be my biggest frustration! - Arne Slot

He’s going to love the prem this guy!

24 Apr 2024 18:00:34
His first signing will be Mark Clattenberg.
Forest have had no luck since he went there 😂.

24 Apr 2024 22:24:29
Clattenburg might be better in front of goal for us. After all he knows the language so he’ll be more composed.

I've heard Clattenburg is lethal in the as well and waits till the pass after the pass to run. Sign him up stop the inverted full back. Cross the ball. Bosh clatenburg eats battenburg.

Come on, JK, cut him some slack.
When you move to another country you have to relearn how to kick the ball into the net again. It's not been two years yet.
After that he'll progress to learning how to control the ball again.

Hello Eds. Personal preferences of your respected selves aside, do we know who is/ was the preferred choice for LFC to replace Klopp?

{Ed025's Note - i expect it was Alonso Kimos..

24 Apr 2024 18:09:14
Thanks Ed025. You don’t always get what you want. Hope you stay up and I’m sure you will. I finally got my son to Anfield for a game before Klopp left. The game v Saints and his only regret was that he didn’t get to look across to Goodison! Great night though in Liverpool.

{Ed025's Note - its a very friendly city Kismos and i hope you visit Bramley moore dock when its finished mate...it will be amazing...and your lad may become a blue when he sees it.. :)

24 Apr 2024 18:43:30
No chance he becomes a blue mate! Speaking to an old blue when we were there and asking her what becomes of Goodison, she had no idea and a little wistful with it. Developers move in and fill their boots, I guess?

Agree1

{Ed025's Note - yeah its getting re-developed mate..

Hopefully for the best….

Agree0

24 Apr 2024 19:51:18
To be fair - and I probably shouldn't say this on a derby night, Bramley Moor is going to look fantastic when it’s finished.

There’s so much work to do around that area though as save for the titanic it’s an absolute state.

Agree0

24 Apr 2024 23:59:51
If they want it finishing they'd better get Nunez, Salah and Diaz on the job.

Agree0

24 Apr 2024 13:57:58
If the runours we are signing Slot are true are we getting the best man for the job, the man who is best qualified to continue our winning ways and further progression from the Klopp Era?
Or, are we getting the guy that suits Edward's and Co and their supposed agenda of keeping control of everything and the new manager just being a coach?

What's your thoughts Ed1 and fellow posters?

{Ed001's Note - agenda? Surely the agenda they have is bringing in the best coach to progress the club?}

24 Apr 2024 15:03:50
@Ed01, that’s way to simplistic a way to look at things, mate.

Agree0

24 Apr 2024 15:17:29
If 2 months ago we were all told that Klopp was going to be replaced by a manager that many of the fan base had no knowledge of and with limited CL experience then I’m sure we would have all been worried.

Alonso was definitely coming and then so was Amorim. I’ve always said whoever comes in has huge shoes to fill but the comfort factor for me is that we have one hell of a squad.

The new manager is 100% happening next season see might as well all get onboard and let it all play out and hopefully we hot the ground running.

Biggest negative is that Arsenal and City under Arteta and Pep will also still be there next season.

Agree4

24 Apr 2024 16:06:48
Any manager coming in would be a risk to varying degrees. Now, I don’t claim to know much about the Dutch league but since last night I have tried to gain a better understanding of the man that is Arne Slot and the opinion of him by all Dutch fans via varies forums, interviews, what journalist say about him and players currently playing under him, and those that have in the past, along with tactical analysis videos.

My personal opinion, and I could be wrong here is this might be a masterstroke by Edwards. I read he was on course to win the league with a team called AZ, which would have been something close to a miracle. But the season was cut short due to the C.V. and as a result no one was declared the champions that year. Opposition fans have said he is nothing like Ten Hag and are confused at our fanbase having meltdown due to his impending appointment. They say they have never seen such good football from any team in recent memory and that he will shock a lot of us. The way they’re talking, and that includes opposition and direct rival fans of Feyenoord took me back, in a good way. Here is just one comment I read on a forum and there are countless others from Feyenoord and rival fans that echo the same sentiment:

“I’ve followed Feyenoord for 40 years. Not since the days of Johan Cruyff at Ajax in the 1980s has there been a coach so attack-minded in the Dutch league. Cruyff only had a few disciples who followed him and one of them was Pep Guardiola. ” “I would say Slot is a Guardiola-style manager based on everything I’ve seen over the past couple of years. The fans of Feyenoord can’t believe what they’ve seen over that time. ”.

Agree7

24 Apr 2024 16:25:12
Alonso, from what little I have read about him, I'd agree with your assessment.

He is giving me 'Endo-like' vibes - Feyenoord fans are all going to be really sad to see him go as they have come to love his football, but all wish him nothing but the best at Liverpool.

Agree6

24 Apr 2024 16:26:38
I'll explain a bit better, by agenda I mean that it is being reported that Amorim wanted more say in the transfer but was told that won't be the case. So we are going for a manager that is happier to have less say in purchases.
Weren't all those Dutch forums and fans and papers also saying the same about Ten Haag before he went to Utd.

Agree1

24 Apr 2024 16:27:41
Ten Hag’s Ajax played some excellent football @Alonso. I wouldn’t mind if Slot is anything like Ten Hag. He flopped at United for many other reasons.

Agree1

24 Apr 2024 16:46:58
Everything is a gamble and that includes Klopp when he came in. We had NO idea we would be where we are and have won the lot esp. at the beginning when things weren't working out and we could not get over the line despite playing the best footie I personally, had ever seen us play over the years back then. Klopp says til this day that he would be forever grateful to FSG for NOT quitting on him during those years, btw.

Slot is by all accounts, forging a good reputation for himself and he has shown that he can win the league, win other trophies (like the Dutch Cup Feyenoord won last Sun) and compete in Europe albeit in the Conference League.

Also, don't forget that as is the norm with our recruitment of players, Slot is prolly according to Edwards and his bros. the next best thing in management coming up the ranks (after Xabi and prolly Amorim) and feel they'd better get him now before he explodes cos then he would be exploding with LFC, the same way recruiting players like Salah, Mane, Bobbie, VVD, Ali and the rest we signed when they were right at the cusp of blowing up. We know the results of such investments. If Slot comes good anywhere near that then, we will be well on our way again.

Agree2

24 Apr 2024 16:52:29
Jurgen Klopp himself was a so called ‘yes man’. He agreed to defer responsibility to scouts and analysts when signing players. It was a relationship that led to us signing the likes of Salah. Jurgens willingness to collaborate is one of the main reasons we were so successful.

Brendan Rodgers was not a ‘yes man’. He was an arrogant blert who argued the toss over transfers and then bleated to his media buddies that he was being oppressed. The club had to buy him Benteke as a consolation for accepting them pushing Firmino onto him. All of the signings made off his own back were rubbish.

I want a manager happy to work within the structure that bore fruit for us in the past. Many were happy when Edwards returned, but are now annoyed that he is doing his job in the way he has always done it?

Embarrassing contradictions being thrown about everywhere.

Agree8

24 Apr 2024 17:03:38
@Zeddicus. I'm with you on the Endo-like vibes. And the Feyenoord fans are completely distraught.

@TheBeekeper. According to Ajax fans, Ten Hag’s football as good as it was, and I quote, is not in the same stratosphere tactically, both defensively in the way they press and in particular attacking wise. Plus, their demeanours are very much different. Slot apparently has more presence and authority. He is known for his excellent man management and closeness with the players and fans. However, as we know nothing is guaranteed in football, so we will have to see how he fairs over here.

Having said that, and I could be completely off with what I’m about to say. I’m very optimistic that he is going to be more successful than any of us could have predicted.

Agree4

24 Apr 2024 17:22:04
Edwards and Co keeping control of everything? He's only been back at the club two minutes! And the same goes for the bloke from Bournemouth. Hughes, is it?
So Alonso decides to stay where he is, Amorim isn't viable, we have to look elsewhere and fans are losing their heads 😂.
There's only one Klopp and we had him for nine years but it's time to move on. We can't just appoint a big name that everyone knows and wants and give him billions to spend.
That's not how it works and I should be surprised that fans don't know this but I'm not.

Agree1

24 Apr 2024 17:28:36
The last year Ten Hag won the league with Ajax, the manager of the year award went to Slot rather than Ten Hag. He sounds excitingly progressive in his approach on the field and in terms of his approach to the game would seem a younger, more energetic version of Klopp.

Agree2

24 Apr 2024 17:33:49
What kind of football he play Alonso and formation wise.

4.3.2.1 or 4.3.3 jk23 with inverted goalkeeper as Ed said.

Agree2

24 Apr 2024 18:09:47
@JK23. Starts of as 4-2-3-1 but often switches to 4-4-2 when the opposition is attacking to provide a solid defensive shape. He has thrown surprises if he feels the opponent is inferior. This is to completely dominate and suffocate the opposition into submission. Slots is meant to be very good tactically and his teams PRESS. Apparently, he will not accept any passengers in his side. I read that over a few seasons (can’t remember which ones) teams managed by him had the most chance created and shots on goal from any team across the top leagues in Europe. I’m by no means an expert on Slot, in fact far from it. Just passing on what I have gathered so far. But in short Its defensively sound, extremely high pressing, ultra attacking, fast paced, goal filled, exciting football.

Agree3

24 Apr 2024 18:59:36
Alonso said rejected the opportunity to be our manager as he wants Madrid. Amorim was interested but not on our terms, if Slot has said unequivocally yes then that’s great, he’s got a growing reputation, Bayern, Barca, Milan and Juve were all sniffing around and they’re not going to employ a Brendan Rodgers. Slot rejected Spurs and Chelsea last year which would have been the easy option. He’s got a reasonable pick of clubs. Given that Alonso and Amorim either said flat no or made demands that the club are not willing to meet, he’s the best option. No one can seriously say that they’d want any of Kovac, Tuchel, Frank, De Zerbi or Fonseca over Slot can they?

Unfortunately when push came to shove Endo was shown to be not quite up to a full season. Like many dropped off a cliff recently.

Nunez and Salah cost us for me. Nunez takes his chance tonight its a different story. Unfortunately he turned out to be a sht Andy Carroll in 2nd half of season.

Endo is a squad player at best, for me.
City have Rodri, Arsenal have Rice and we have Endo. It was always going to catch up with us especially when we added Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, as well. Neither of them look like they fancy a tackle.
MacAllister gets a pass because he does have some quality and I knew it was never his strength.
The midfield tonight was too lightweight which was compounded by two of the back four bottling out of the battle, too.
I won't mention Salah and Nunez!
