Glad city n Arsenal are out of champs league . I know there english teams . but let's face it they wouldn't want us to win it . so we're still 6 ahead of arsenal n 5 ahead of city . that will do me.

Arsenal, I don’t care either way. They’re a good club, with an improving manager, they just got outfoxed over two legs by a wily, experienced opponent.
As for City, any time they get knocked out of the Champions League is a win for football, even if it is by Real Madrid. With the latter, you simply have to doff your hat to them - they’ve knocked City out twice now, and that’s the third time Ancelotti has beaten Guardiola in a crunch Champions League tie. No matter the opponent, do NOT make them favourites against Real Madrid. Football doesn’t work like that.

That’s very magnanimous of you strom! Personally I’d have been ok with Arsenal progressing but let’s face it, they wouldn’t have won it either!

Change of subject but I see naby keita has been banned by bremen and given substantial fine for refusing to play at weekend. Only started one league game all season too.
Man, what trouble he is. Possibly klopps worst signing. Some people never change.

Only 2 points off winning league and City could slip up. Never give up.

17 Apr 2024 12:15:50
He refused to play for us too. Just turned up on the pitch, had a stroll around and collexted his dosh. Awful excuse for a footballer.

17 Apr 2024 13:53:22
It's a real shame, he had the potential to be an excellent player. He was good before he joined us, joining us could've made him much better but he was a fool. Such a shame to see a player's career dismantle the way his did. Another one, only bothered about money, remember his bragging about his contract when he signed with us? That rang alarm bells. I don't get these players and their mentality these days, it really makes no sense to me.

Will he still get paid whilst been banned?

17 Apr 2024 14:17:09
I remember ed002 calling it well before he joined and listed all the incidents to that date.
I think the club got the vetting very wrong on that one.

17 Apr 2024 14:46:08
Him and Steven Caulker were Klopp worst signings in terms of yield
Nunez has the potential to be the worst in terms of value for money especially if the clauses are executed and we cough up the £80m plus for him. He is as deadly as a teddy bear!

 5

17 Apr 2024 15:11:49
You missed AOC @Shughes.

 1

17 Apr 2024 15:14:34
Pretty sure Caulker was free and a panic buy, Keita has got to be his worst signing by a country mile. He cost a fortune and was absolutely dreadful when he was “fit”.

 6

17 Apr 2024 15:49:05
And yet I had people insisting to me a couple of years back that Keita's good pre-season meant he had totally arrived.

Colossal waste of ability.

 3

17 Apr 2024 17:26:08
Nope don’t agree AOC should not be lumped in the same pile as Keita.

 10

17 Apr 2024 17:32:29
I think AOC had a very decent, single season with us. I also feel his failings weren't through lack of effort, just pure bad luck with injuries. Keita meanwhile obviously knew he'd hit the jackpot with Liverpool and completely gave up trying, happy to earn the thousands a week for not really doing much.

 5

17 Apr 2024 17:41:06
Chamberlain before his ACL injury was possibly our best midfielder. He was never the same after that.

 4

17 Apr 2024 18:12:28
Ox did have a decent first season with us. I don’t think he was ever an established starter though despite scoring some nice memorable goals for us.

In that first season he featured in 42 games for us but he only actually started 20 of those across 4 competitions.

However his stats of 5 goals and 8 assists is impressive.

 2

17 Apr 2024 18:31:09
iirc, JK, AOC broke into the first team around January that year and started regularly until he got injured.

 2

17 Apr 2024 18:43:16
I always wanted Naby to do well and he could have cus he had the ability. But his attitude and laziness puts him up there with Diouf and Balitelli for me in biggest wastes of oxygen that have ever wore the red shirt.
Players like Konchesky, Poulsen, etc were crap but at least they tried lol.

 5

17 Apr 2024 19:11:13
Sr if we look at Jan to his injury there was 13 league games. He started 7 and was on the bench for 6.

Even if we just go from Feb and discount Jan then there was 10 Games and he started 5 and was on the bench 5 mate.

 0

17 Apr 2024 19:33:36
Hmm. I remember him largely displacing Wijnaldum. Maybe if he started the majority of the CL games in that period it might have looked that way.

*Waits to be told he only started half the CL games*.

 0

17 Apr 2024 20:42:52
Caulker was a 6m loan, hardly a panic buy as he wasn't a buy. Didn't work out, that's what loans are for.

The Ox was a great player plagued by injuries imo - I really wanted him to work out (as did he! ) What is it about Soton prodigies who then go to Arsenal, and injuries, eh?!

Ed002, can you advise about what triggers Darwin's additional fee clauses? I'm sure it was reported that he actually cost around £65m but with add ons that could go up to £80m.

He needs to start hitting the net more often relative to the chances that he gets, but he is also a million miles away from Naby - he's our committed Agent Chaos!

 1

{Ed002's Note - The total cost is 100M euro with bonuses related to games played and the success of the club.}

 1

17 Apr 2024 21:29:43
Was worth his wages just for the city screamers.

 1

17 Apr 2024 22:22:41
Whatever you think about his time here it will always blow my mind that Klopp dropped him for Henderson in the CL final. They didn’t play much together but Fabinho Thiago Keita were fantastic togethe. City in the Fa Cup semi final. Benfica and Villarreal away in the CL knockouts they were brilliant as a trio.

 0

17 Apr 2024 22:57:46
I assume you're referring to the 2022 CL Final OneKiss. For all the hype Naby had gotten that season, he'd actually only played really well 4 times at most.

Most of his other "good" performances, he actually went missing 30 minutes in after a decent start.

By the end of the season he wasn't even starting games well. Absolutely the right choice to put in Henderson. Or literally anybody for that matter. A sack of polished coal would've been a better bet as a midfielder than Naby at that point.

 0

17 Apr 2024 23:01:48
i honestly can't think of a game that Keita was brilliant, much less being MOM
he did score ONE amazing goal, but it wasnt a game changer from what I recall and apart from that, he didn't do much in the game too
he probably had decent games i could count with one hand, then under par games mostly, and more commonly, not even in the matchday squad

AOC on the other hand like many said, had a decent season b4 his injury, he really was never the same thereafter and i can't find myself blaming him. because when he did play for us, effort us always there, some absolute screamers against City, and the way he spoke during press conferences was always great. even his injury, it was incurred not because he was unfit, but because he went in fully for a tackle that he won

the 2 shouldn't be spoken together

Caulker wasnt a great loan, just as Melo, Davis, Kabaz, but i note he was having very bad mental health struggles and did put in 1 decent cameo as a CF to help us win 5-4 against Norwich. again, while his impact was forgettable overall, i wouldn't lump him with Keita who had everything a footballer could ask for to be successful, but did nothing with it the moment he joined us.

 1

17 Apr 2024 23:28:57
He was good against Man U in 21-22 until Pogba injured him, cos whatever useless PGMOL gnome was officiating lost control of the game by not sending off Ronaldo, Fernandes or Maguire for outright hacking people, he was good against City in the FA Cup, and a couple of other games that season.

And I think he had a good debut against Palace. That was it in 5 years. The best he did apart from that was a good 20 minutes here and there. Never a complete game, much less a run of them.

There was one game in the CL against Athletico he scored a worldie after 10 minutes, said "my work here is done", didn't bother for the rest of the half and got subbed at half time. Vintage Keita performance. Except usually he didn't score the worldie.

Astonishingly lazy.

18 Apr 2024 00:56:55
Naby worst signing EVER . For some reason Klopp loved him. one of life's mysteries.

 0

17 Apr 2024 09:36:53
I think Klopp's replacement has to be someone experienced, mature and able to handle the pressure. Amorim may not be ready yet. I really hope we look at the likes of Simone Inzaghi.

 3

17 Apr 2024 09:52:28
Has done exceptionally well at Inter. Won the league and reached the CL final last time around. Good shout.

 2

17 Apr 2024 10:18:29
Big Sam fits the bill then 😁.

 6

17 Apr 2024 10:23:09
Done a great job at Lazio and Inter to be fair. Would not be against appointing him at all. Funnily enough, also loves a back 3.

 2

17 Apr 2024 12:25:17
Arne Slot.

 1

17 Apr 2024 13:18:27
Inzaghi has done a fantastic job at both Lazio and Inter - both clubs are doing a lot better than before he arrived. Inter have strolled to the league title and won a bunch of domestic cups under him. The last ingredient I want to see from Inzaghi, which would take him into world class manager territory, is winning crunch knockout CL ties against strong teams.
I know Inter got to the final last season (and performed well against a much better set of players), but their route to the final was quite kind.
So far, however, Inzaghi is proving to be very good.

 1

17 Apr 2024 13:33:31
Ed002 has said Slot isn’t an option. Inzhagi doesn’t speak a word of English and doubt he’s interested in moving to a country where he doesn’t speak the language.

 2

17 Apr 2024 13:55:45
Amorim for me. The guy has punched above his weight and won (and about to win) titles and Cups while his club keeps selling their best players. Imaging what he can do with more funds to spend (LFC are no longer a selling club) on this good squad in addition with his great ability to work with young players. Nah, Amorim all the way for me.

 5

17 Apr 2024 16:25:26
To be fair Simone Inzaghi has done exceptionally well, but does not speak English and is apparently very settled in Italy. It’s Amorim all day long for me, and if reports of Amorim being Edwards first choice are true, then I trust him and Hughes to get the deal done to bring him here. The pool of managers after him that are suitable but importantly available are a drop down.

 2

17 Apr 2024 16:51:24
Gonna have to correct whomever said inzaghi doesn't speak English. It's not fluent and he prefers not to speak it but he does speak English. I know because I was the person he spoke to at a professional event two years ago in Switzerland.

 3

17 Apr 2024 17:12:34
@Nevada. I know you watch the Italian league quite extensively, so I respect you knowledge on all things that side. Was researching if he speaks English and all results came back as he doesn’t, but that’s obviously wrong. It’s good to know he has a good grasp of English.

On a completely separate note, what are your thoughts on the young Argentinian talent called Matias Soule, who is currently applying his trade over in Italy? Highly rated by a number of English and European sides and could fit in Amorim’s 343 formation as a right inside forward. YouTube clips are deceiving and is not the best tool to judge a player, although he does looks a talent.

Would be good to get an opinion from someone who watches Italian league football.

 0

17 Apr 2024 20:01:35
@alonsk1786

I wouldn't say his grasp. of English is good, it's basic. We didn't speak long it was basically just very short chit chat (my Italian is about as good as his English)

Soule has a lot of talent but he's very rough. Personally I wouldn't say he's ready to come to premier league yet. If I were him (or his agent) I'd say stay where his is for a couple of years. Italy is a much better league to recruit attacking players in my opinion because the pressing and marking is very similar to UK. France and Germany is very spacious so it takes a lot of players from those leagues a while to adapt.

He is very gifted with the ball at his feet but he's quite reactionary, I judge players based on how well they read the game since all the talent in the world is nullified by not being able to understand where space and danger will develop.

Hope that helps.

 2

17 Apr 2024 23:28:51
@Nevada. Much appreciated on the information regarding Simone Inzaghi and Matias Soule. Probably best that Soule keeps on developing in Italy if that’s the case.

Richard Hughes is meant to be connected in Italy, so hopefully he dips into the talent pool over there. Interesting summer ahead for sure.

Player Assessment At Manchester United

17 Apr 2024 07:39:01
{Ed's Note - Tumbleweed! has posted a new article entitled, Player Assessment At Manchester United

 0

17 Apr 2024 13:01:37
I don’t personally see how you are going to make a profit on maguire, wan bassaka and Ericsson, not a cat in hells chance. Also who do you think in their right mind is going to put in a decent offer for Luke always injured shaw? Cassamiro, Ericsson, shaw, varanne and linderloff should all be allowed to leave, and perhaps a few more. Your only players worth anything are the new kids and rashford and Bruno. Rasmus is just as Anthony a poor expensive purchase.
Until some manager comes in and rips up your team and starts again you’ll be in the same position year in year out.

 0

17 Apr 2024 13:56:41
Make a profit on Macguire? How's that going to happen when he is the most expensive CB on the planet?

 0

17 Apr 2024 16:39:03
OliRed, the £80m he was bought for in 2019 is spread across his contract. After 5 years his book value is around 15m, so if he’s sold for anything more than that it would be recorded as a profit.

 0

18 Apr 2024 04:09:51
To be fair Oli, Harry has provided a lot of people with a lot of great entertainment for a n7mber of years now = that’s got to be worth something?

 0

16 Apr 2024 12:46:32
It’s quite clear for a while now that Salah has fallen off a cliff with performances. I don’t think he will be with us next season. Looks ready to wind down now and get a nice payday in an easy league. Obviously will be a struggle to replace though.

 9

16 Apr 2024 13:05:11
I think before his hamstring injury at AFCON he was playing some of his best football since his first season with us. However since he's come back he looks really jaded. Probably a combination of aging legs, the injury lay off and returning whilst he was fasting.

Whatever the case, I think it's the right time to sell. I'm getting the same vibes that Mane was giving off in his last season. Numbers are still there but the performance is slowly declining and the pace/ power looks to be dissipating.

 18

16 Apr 2024 13:42:54
A fantastic player but I agree, the time has come for him to leave us. I think we've all come to terms with this. A Liverpool legend in my eyes but he's not been right for a while now. I kept thinking he'd improve and somehow save us but he hasn't and more than likely won't so it's time to get what we can. It'll be best for us and for him to move on.

Next couple of years are going to be interesting but it'll be no walk in the park, huge changes are coming. We are losing our manager, top goalscorer, probably Diaz and god knows who else. We will need to be patient even though we won't be lol. After recent results I'm welcoming it though, bring it all on. Time to move forward, we have youngsters ready to shine, use them! I hope the new manager sees what quality he's got in them.

 15

16 Apr 2024 15:53:14
MK Scouser, I thought so as well. Let's be real here and not try to act all surprised. Salah is near 32 years old. You have to be living under a record to believe he would not lose a step or even two. That said, he had been playing some of his best footie at the start of the season as he was top 2 in goalscoring in the PL in the first 3 months or so.

It seems that hamstring injury and the setback he had after he came back vs Brentford (where he had a great game) has stifled him a lot. Was he rushed too soon? I don't know BUT he does not look fit at all.

The guy is a legend and an absolute role model for young players in terms of his mentality, desire and footballing lifestyle. The absolute poster boy of how to make a great career out of one where nobody thought you would not get anywhere near one. However, it may be time to let him go. It is what it is.

 5

16 Apr 2024 16:34:54
If I was living under any record it would be Another brick in the wall by Pink Floyd.
Salah getting badlyoutpaced when put through on Sunday was shocking to me even though its clear he had lost half a yard before this season started since the return from injury he's lost about half a dozen yards. He also doesn't seem to want to press or track back atm which is making our best player a bit of a liability currently. Need Mo back and firing for the last games. If he does leave it will be a sad day but what a player he has been for us.

 3

16 Apr 2024 16:52:26
As soon as KnickerBollox writes one of our players off you know he'll come good.
Salah might be completely out of touch right now due to various things, but writing him off as finished is just pure knee jerk, Knickerbollox style.

 7

16 Apr 2024 17:44:34
The scout 007 has spoken, he's finished.

 4

16 Apr 2024 17:56:17
Maybe if you got off your high horse Flash, you’d be able to see what the rest of us are seeing, which is a player in decline. Can’t be easy watching it all the way up there.

Mo has been and is an absolute legend, the standards he has set are absolutely world class and he’s easily one of the greatest we’ve ever seen at the club.

Regrettably though time waits for no one and once the pace has gone it’s gone for good. Better to sell now and get as much as we can than to wait a year and hope that things change, because they won’t, we’d also then be left to replace without funds to adequately do it. Difficult decisions have to be made.

Salah will be difficult and expensive to replace because at his peak he was unplayable, pace, skill, goals and assists. Players like that don’t come a dime a dozen and we’ll need to sign someone around the 24 year old age bracket who is as consistent as he was in Italy when we signed him (29 goals in 65 Serie A appearances over 2 and a half seasons for Fiorentina and Roma was exceptionally good), who also has the ability to get to the next level of their development and become a world class player.

 7

16 Apr 2024 18:10:44
VV, Time will defeat us all. It's undefeated for a reason, man.

 3

16 Apr 2024 19:53:56
Still think Salah can have a big say in how our season ends but for sure it's time to take the money this summer.

 2

16 Apr 2024 22:06:15
Salah will now score 4 against Atalanta now you’ve all said he’s needs to go.

 3

16 Apr 2024 22:29:20
Kloppers you must be living under a record!

Love that saying, I’m having it 👍.

 6

17 Apr 2024 00:39:27
£65-70m and sell easy.

 0

17 Apr 2024 06:42:41
You can’t go from playing the best football of your career at Liverpool some months ago to being on the scrap heap in the same season 😂. Come on!

My record would be anything by Van the man Morrison 😜.

 0

17 Apr 2024 06:50:47
3-4 bad games ( by his standards) including 2 goals and an assist and he need selling…wow…. he’s come back from a fairly significant injury and is fasting and now he’s a busted flush. C’mon guys, he’ll be back amongst the goals this week and we’ll be raving about him. I think he’ll go this summer, purely as a financial decision from the club, considering his contract length and age, but I am far from happy about it and next year I guarantee you all will be too. The old adage you don’t know what you had till it’s gone, applies. He is mercurial genius, the beating heart of the last 5 years and he is, quite literally irreplaceable.

 1

17 Apr 2024 07:04:03
I ain't blind Viktor, but I don't do knee jerk either. I don't need to lash out at players because we lost.
We don't see him in training every day, and we don't have any background on whether he's nursing injuries along.
Now I don't claim to be a judge of a player, but I don't see a player who was purring a few months ago suddenly needing to be got rid of because of a few ropey performances.
And I like my high horse just fine thanks!

 3

17 Apr 2024 09:18:49
I think the increasing number of people who think now is the right time to let Salah go is at least in part a reaction to recent form and performances. No doubt he has been poor, almost anonymous, and in my opinion he shouldn't start the next match (es) . It's probably also fair to see he is no longer the player he was in the years that most people would consider his peak; when he scored goals out of nothing - be it mazy dribbles into the box or hose bending shots into the far corner. He doesn't really do either any more.

That said, he has had brief dips in form throughout his Liverpool career and always emerged and he is still, by some way, our top scorer this season even though he missed a large chunk with AFCON and injuries. I think he has developed and evolved his game to still deliver the G/ A in a different way. 23 goals + 13 assists in all comps probably puts him up there with the best in the league. Would most clubs get rid of their top scorer (granted there are a number of penalties in those stats) .

Perhaps the combination of new manager/ new approach, Salah no longer being at his absolute peak and the fact that silly money might be on the table if a move to Saudi is still possible, will mean that, on balance, the time is right for a move.

 3

17 Apr 2024 09:28:09
So replace Salah with a young, prime Salah, Vik?
If it was that easy we'd have done the same with Mane and Firminho, too.

 2

16 Apr 2024 09:40:33
We need serious investment this summer in replacing salah. If the right player is available spend the money.

 1

17 Apr 2024 13:57:51
Adeyemi from BVB's worth a shout.

 0

17 Apr 2024 22:24:19
This is said every single season without fail about Salah when he doesn’t score for a game or two and it’s proven wrong every single time.

 0

16 Apr 2024 12:45:07
Klopp's biggest problem has been Guardiola and the players he has at City. But I reckon Guardiola would say his biggest problem whilst at City has been Klopp and his Liverpool team.

 18

16 Apr 2024 13:45:22
So true.

 3

16 Apr 2024 15:57:13
Absolutely, Rigsby. Klopp has beaten Pep to win trophies or has won trophies before he did. Also, Klopp has the best head to head vs Pep out of any manager Pep has faced. He made the City/ Liverpool games evenly matched despite all the disadvantages he had. Klopp gets all the credit for that as well as the players.

Klopp and LFC have given Pep and City fits thru out their time in the PL and yeah, Pep won more BUT that is expected cos he is well, given more. But Klopp's trophy record at LFC is what a lot of these rival fans would kill for so in the end, Klopp is his kryptonite. Just my take.

 5

16 Apr 2024 16:31:55
I wonder for how much longer Guardiola will stay at City.

 1

{Ed002's Note - Not too much longer.}

 10

16 Apr 2024 16:34:41
Just think, had we not won it in 2020, City would be going for seven in a row! Klopp deserves huge credit for that. And had it not been for Guardiola and the money at City we could be going for our fourth title under Klopp. We might have had two more CL trophies were it not for Real Madrid, too.
I just can't help but look at what Klopp has achieved for us and what we are up against rather than what he didn't achieve.
One of the reasons we are all so disappointed is because of the expectations we now have under Klopp.

 5

16 Apr 2024 17:11:12
That sounds like something is afoot for this summer. 😉.

 2

16 Apr 2024 18:12:00
Speaking way too much sense, Rigsby. Stop it!

 3

17 Apr 2024 09:27:46
What advantages does city have may I know? About to win a treble with Rodri, Kovacic and Mateus Nunes lol. They have a flop GK, A flop Grealish, An injury prone KDB, an overrated Foden and An overrated walker (accordint to this page) .
Pep would win atleast 3 PL titles with a prime Fabinho, Salah, Mane, Bobby, VVD, Alli, Robbo and Trent.
More importantly Guardiola wouldn't let his assistant to run a football club. he ofeten gets criticized for over complicating while royally ignoring how Klopp is obsessed with playing the iverted nonsense.

 0

18 Apr 2024 00:34:14
Beekeeper you are missing the point.

Guardiola would never have had Salah, Mane, Bobby, Firmino, Robbo or Trent. They were all bought on a budget or from the academy and turned into great players. He would’ve signed proven world class players for much more money because he had it to spend.

He might have signed Ali and VVD but he wouldn’t have had to sell one of his best players in order to do it.

It’s absolutely undeniable that any City manager has had a huge financial, competitive advantage since the sheik took over. Before Pep, City won the league with Mancini and Pellegrini. Before Klopp Liverpool had one decent season in 2013-2014 where we came close but other than that we were generally 4th to 8th place in the league.

Klopp took us from relative obscurity with the odd decent cup run, hoping to get into the top 4 every season to the best team in Europe.

Pep took an already brilliant City team, spent loads of money on it and won more stuff.

There’s no comparison between the two.
