Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

09 Oct 2012 22:48:46
Italian source TuttoMercato are today reporting that Liverpool are readying an ambitious move to lure Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez to Anfield.
Having previously been linked with apparent interest in veteran striker David Villa it seems that the Merseyside club have changed tack and opted to push for the former Udinese man, who moved to the Nou Camp in June 2011.

Lmao who are these guys kidding!
Where do the press get there ridiculous sources from
BC

Quality player,stupid rumour.

Not a chance.
We will only attract 'B and C grade' players now!.

I'm sure Brendon Rodgers will be given time to prove all the doubters wrong.
It seems only a handful of us can share his vision and see what he is trying to do.
Success WILL NOT be instant!
He is laying the foundations of a team that will be ready to compete for top honours in 2 or 3 years time.
There will be mistakes made on and off the field. It will be frustrating at times. It will not happen over night.
It's great for the likes of Chelsea or man city who can basically go out and buy whoever they like and afford to pay their wages.
We cannot compete with those teams financially, so we have to find an alternate way to compete with them.
Chelsea won the champions league playing average football with a team of world class players.
Brendon Rodgers aim is to turn a team of average players into a world class team. We are already seeing signs of it. Sahin, Allen, assaidi, borini. World class players? No. Effective within a team? Perhaps. Add suso, sterling, Shelvey, Coates, Flanagan, Kelly and you begin to see the future of Liverpool football club.
Five or six years ago I could have listed messi, xavi, iniesta in the same way. Did Barcelona pay millions for these players?

We're on the verge of something massive here. It's going to happen.
This young Liverpool team are only going to get better.
GIVE THEM TIME.

Grant.

Best post ever

Heard this all before!.

I couldn't give a flying fook about Luis or any other diving. It's our lack of goals that's got me fooking worried.

Blair mate when I sayed borini is not our answer if you remember and we need fox in the box striker to progress but you denied and sayed borini is fox in the box striker. Strange now your worried. Reality is we need world class if not then atleast class striker to progress. We have wasted lots of money for average strikers or pontential strikers which has not helped us we need something speciall to drive us foward.

It's only my personal opinion here but it seems to me the lack of goals is because Suarez is not a main goal scorer. Sure he can score goals, but he's more of a second striker than a main goalscorer.

I understand BR's reasons for playing Suarez as the main front man - he's clever, plenty of skill, links play etc. but i just don't think he's cut out for leading the line. Personally think he should be playing in a tight two, along with Sterling or Suso, just behind a main striker. That way they could both have free roles to switch flacks when they please and get between the lines of the oppositions midfield & defence. I'd even consider playing Gerrard with Suarez behind a main striker, but who that main striker is remains to be seen.

I'd like to see more of Borini playing as the main front man, give him 4/5 straight games as first choice through the middle to see what he can prove and give Yesil/Morgan/Ngoo a try for the last 15 mins each game. Ngoo would be the most menacing coming off the bench due to his size and power, but Yesil has pace and an amazing shot. Oh the dilemma BR has!

Rumours about Eriksson being Gerrard's replacement, what a load of cosh! Shelvey will be a monster in midfield for our future!

Don't write off Sven just yet - his best years are ahead of him.

I have just seen on the Liverpool FC website that a young Turkish lad who won an X-factor type of show for young footballers has arrived at the academy:
Emin Altunay arrived at the Liverpool Academy in Kirkby last week determined to take full advantage of a 'dream come true' after he beat competition from thousands of young footballers to become Turkey's first Soccer Prince.
His prize for winning the hit reality TV show is a 12-month development programme in the UK under the guidance and direction of LFC and the aim is simple; to develop Emin to the highest level that he can achieve.

After searching further into this 'Soccer Prince' programme, I discovered that a similar contest was held in Vietnam in 2010 with the following result:

In 2010 Nguyen Cong Cuong from Hanoi was crowned Vietnam Soccer Prince, and Nguyen Anh Tu from Dong Thap was the second runner-up, after joining the soccer talent finding show aired by local VBC channel in cooperation with Wickworldwide, which also runs the programs in other countries.

After winning against 3,000 other contestants across the country, Tu and Cuong were awarded a full-year scholarship at the Liverpool FC Academy in England in late May, 2010.

The two left for England a month later, hoping to have their football dream realized, but soon had to return to Vietnam after just three months.

They waited for the club to call back after the winter holidays, but have since received no response.

Tu's father, Nguyen Ngoc Giau, said he constantly contacted the show organizers, but was always answered that the show was affected by the global economic malaise.

I guess this faltered because it was in the time of the transition from the H&G era to the FSG era. Maybe now FSG should now also invite the Vietnam winners to the academy? I know Liverpool is already very popular in Asia, but renewing this scholarship for these two young guys can only have a positive effect for the club.
Northern Git

Northern git you should set up a petition to liverpool to get these lads back, which they deserve, plus you be doing the club a good turn because who ever is running stuff like this at club, need a kick in the ar#s,because things like this, do like term damage to club, and in asia where the market is huge for liverpool.i will sign it.td

The media have had their usual feeding frenzy over our man Luis but there are other issues we need to look at.
Pulis congratulated Glen Johnson for getting up and playing on after being cynically assaulted with a direct charge by a Stoke player. If Johnson had faked serious injury, called in the Paramedics and had a neck brace fitted whilst being carried on a stretcher there would have been a red card for Stoke - and that's why Pulis praised Johnson. I'm sure there are managers and players out there who would have adopted that strategy without hesitation.
Also, did anyone spot the 'both feet off the ground -studs up' lunge by Stoke's Wilson on Andre Wisdom in the left back area just before full time. Wisdom saw it coming and held back - another Stoke player saved from a red card by Wisdoms honesty.
They did well to survive with 11 men till the end.

Midsred

Pulis is an arrogant prat

Stoke are a horrible team, who are a bunch of thugs.

Eds, any chance of a Tony Pulis insult page please - the number of posts would go off the scale. At least Fergie has some success to go with his arrogant hypocrisy.

Don't see the problem with Suarez's dive.
Yes he dives, all teams have players who dive in every division.
The managers are to blame, but their jobs could depend on getting a penalty or not so can you blame them?

The Solution?

If FIFA/UEFA really want to end it, grow a pair and introduce a 10 minute instant player sin bin for anyone suspected of diving or dissent.

Managers would stop their players diving overnight as the repercussions of losing a player make the risk greater than the benefit.

I think the Sin Bin is the obvious solution for all offences. The team against which the offence is committed should benefit and not the teams played against in the following weeks. If this had been the case, Stoke would have had about 8 players for long periods of the game.

Just a thought maybe we should sell suarez , love the guy but he's not going to change and the media, fa, premier league and referees will not treat him fairly he has his faults , but he is not the only one !.

I'm sick of hearing the bias reporting of everything he does, btw why is Gordon taylor not helping suarez is a member and deserves somes support, driving one of the best players out is not helping anybody and portrays our country as intolerant.

09 Oct 2012 20:39:36
Lets put this to rest, Suarez should stay on his feet and sort out some shooting practice THEN he will be up there with messi and ronaldo

Not the point everybody deserves to be treated fairly and nor singled out as the only culprit

Suarez IS treated fairly...he dives!

09 Oct 2012 20:31:08
I just want to say how Glen Johnson is playing at Left back. He is performing really well at left back and he seems more switched on playing there and his defending is a lot better as well as a threat going forward.

I agree that in the main Luis brings an awful lot of unwanted attention to himself but lets look at the bigger picture here. RVP elbows an opponent and very little in the media, Huth stamps on Luis and Fergies puppet Pullis points out the dive, claiming he should receive a 3 match ban, erm who do Peter "handball" Crouch play for? is that not cheating also??

As I said, whilst Luis brings it on himself, the media don't help, Nani, Young, Valencia all have a history of going to ground easily, as does Bale, and even Long at WBA. Lets be honest here, the tackle at Norwich is an assault compared to Aggers against WBA, yet they get a penalty and Agger is sent off, fair? I don't think so.

I hope BR continues to support Luis in public whilst having a quiet word in private. Maybe it's time for Luis to get a little clever when in or around the box. Maybe its also time for the players around him to point out a little more vocally to the match officials, as do other teams in the league, when he is getting kicked etc...

Lets not condem LS boys, he's our player and yes he needs "educating" in the english game, as did, Drogba, Ronaldo and Jurgen, they all learnt and I am sure under BR luis will also.......TMac

I think BR should be more supportive after the games for Suarez. After Stoke game Pulis couldn't wait to stick the boot in on Suarez for the dive but BR was being politically correct, not criticising Stokes play, talking about our great build up play blah, blah, blah.
I would have loved him to make a point and kick up a fuss about the fact Huth STAMPED on Luis' chest.
He only seemed to mention the incident when it was brought up to him later on that day.
That's exactly what Ferguson woud have done (make a fuss) and, as much as I hate him, he is the best at using the media to influence decisions. Just look at our game against them a few weeks agao. Pre match press conference he is saying how United have only had 1 penalty at Anfield in 20 odd years and what happens in the game, they get a penalty.

Jay

Great post.

Pulis is the cheat. Like Taggart, his tactics fail to nullify the threat of our best striker, so he tries to undermine him and get him banned instead! Or force him to walk away.

What a cheek! His team just had 6 bookings to our none, kicking us off the park and getting away scot-free with a nasty assault into the bargain! No bigger bunch of thugs in the league!

I honestly would have expected better of Pulis. Suarez is treated differently by referees, there is clear evidence that he has been given absolutely nothing since Taggart took a dislike to him last season. Commentators always say that if there is contact, then strikers are 'entitled to go down', except for Suarez that is! He gets kicked up and down every week, gets booed everywhere he goes, was made an example of by the FA, and basically told to learn 'the English way' or feck off back home (how racist is that?!)

And what does Pulis do? Jump on the bandwagon and carry on like a poor man's Fergie. He got the point he was looking for. There was no penalty given. But he just couldn't resist an easy target.

As we say in Scotland, he's a big man, but a wee jacket fits him! He should take a good hard look at himself in the mirror!

And I think our manager should have come out and say this publicly too!

Hi Ed's,

A few questions if I may?

Erikkson had previosuly stated that he would not move to us; but S Sports are saying he likes to be linked - now I'm not saying he's available but would he consider us (I thought previously it was Spainish clubs only that he was interested in - although I believe u said AC Milan wanted him)?

Angelo Ogbonna - is there interest or do we believe Coates, Kelly, Wisdom will be sufficent in a years time?

What's the thought on Danny Wilson? Playing for Rangers (as I remember didnt do too bad when he played for us but didnt play much for Blackpool while on loan); do they see him having a future with us?

Thanks

Hoola

Sort of a moot point in my opinion all this suarez diving crap. He shouldve had probably 5 pens so far this season and countless free kicks that werent given so i wouldnt focus too much on an incident where he's clearly in the wrong but is no doubt frustrated and feels that yet again he isnt gettin the same protection afforded to teams that are in the good books of the referees. Rodgers has every right to try and point out the difference in treatment as its becoming blatent now. Greg..

I remember when I first started coming on this site, You could talk about football all day with like minded fans, all without setting up accounts and trawling through countless forums.
Quick, easy and most of the posters would have something interesting to say.
These days it's all about slagging off each others posts, each other, the manager and players.
Really don't see the point in making an effort with my posts these days, a lot of the regulars seem to have jumped ship as well.
Sorry eds I know you do a great job but this sites getting crap, boring and predictable.
I used to just skip the garbage and read the good posts but you can skip an entire day these days.

MIKEY

Sadly you are right mikey.

B O H

I know how you feel mate. It's a shame, but it's tricky to get the balance of popularity and avoiding the countless mindless fans who have nothing constructive to say being attracted. I only hope that regulars returns and perhaps a little more moderation happens. That said its a tough job on the Ed's, as they probably want a nicely balanced site. But that's not something people just use to vent, it can be exhausting reading some days, let alone editing these every single day. Fair play to the regulars and Ed's, fingers crossed a little more positive balance occurs.

I personally think that Rodgers would have rollocked Suarez in private and in public has been clever in his comments to support him... Rodgers has simply pointed out that nobody is talking about the off the ball stamping incident that took place or other incidents that took place this weekend - people are only out to vilify Suarez constantly.

I've seen...

Torres Dive (for Chelsea)
Nani Dive
Bale Dive *he should be in the olympic diving squad.. (did it on the weekend!)
Van Persie dive and Elbowed a Newcastle player
Ashley Young Dives Should join Bale!
Steven Gerrard Dive (sorry I've seen it...)
The king of Dives - Drogba!
The list cold go on...

Pulis then steps up and say's ban Suarez whilst his own player stamped on Suarez and nothing is said!! This is what Rodgers is referring to.

Suarez really is dragging our name down, all the recent negative stuff aimed at our club is caused by him, he is despised by everyone in the game.

Suarez ever since Evra's incident has been targeted by the media alike. Feel sorry for him for this.
Then again, if he stops diving, eventually he will get the penalties & fouls. Lets hope Rodgers has given him some stick for diving!

Chaki

Non of Suarez Liverpool and Uruguay teammates despise him, and that is all that matters.

Hi eds,if the manager manages to offload the players he doesn't want in january,will he get all the money to spend on transfer's or will he have to take new players wages out of the budget too. {Ed002's Note - I don't see significant moves in January.}

If we dont buy a forward in jan fsg must go

I hope he does it get, either January or in the summer.

Chaki

I'm sure I've seen these posts before. Weird déjà vu moment!!

09 Oct 2012 18:21:43
These boring international's couldn't have come at a worse time. Were a struggling team as it is,what will we do if we pick up any injuries.January cant come round quick enough, providing of course we actualy sign someone.

09 Oct 2012 18:17:29
As liverpool fans we all need to stick together.Forget the petty arguments on who's playing well, and who's a waste of money etc. After seeing robert huth get away with stamping on suarez during and after the game,im convinced ref's and the F.A. have got it in for liverpool and suarez.Let's look at it,we've had very harsh red cards, blatant penalties turned down, and then to top it off suarez gets stamped on and nothing gets done about it.Opposing managers and the media are queing up to have a pop at liverpool and suarez in particular.I accept that suarez's dive was pathetic, but if ref's are not giving u blatant penalties then why not throw yourself to the ground, like other players. You'd think that it was just liverpool who's players dive if you listen to the media and tony pulis, fact is every club is doing it,liverpool just seem to take all the flak.

09 Oct 2012 18:35:05
Ye there you go again - its never your fault

Any level headed Liverpool fan can surely see that Suarez is not making it easy for himself. Brendan rogers must feel a bit of a fool after coming out and defending him last week then at the weekend Suarez lets him down by producing a comical dive. If he had stayed on his feet and tried to find a team mate or score then wat rogers said about him not getting decisions would of at least had some truth when Huth stamped on him. Now we just remember his stupid dive when it should of been stoke down to ten men.
Djay

Top post mate seems that once fergy opened his gob saying suarez dives all over place then mud sticks he cant keep his nose out of lfc affairs needs to look at his own players wellbeck and cole to name just 2 divers and they get away with it pulis also sticking his nose in and stoke need to be playing in rugby league with their football.

Suarez doesn't do himself any favours sometimes, but thats no excuse for him being stamped on,and the authorities doing nothing about it.

Simple solution to liverpool stoke row.Rodgers should tell luis to stay on his feet if he can, liverpool problem sorted.Tony pulis has done well since stoke got promoted, now he should teach his players how to play football.

09 Oct 2012 18:12:14
I see erikson was flattered by Liverpools interest. That's nice too see.

Yes but as it has been noted the lad is a Spurs fan and has gone on record in saying that he would jump at the chance of playing for United or spurs! Think he was being kind to us

09 Oct 2012 18:07:14
Michael Kightly on Suarez and diving:
"But nine times out of 10, he's not. It is something we are trying to get out of the game. Referees have to try to stamp down on it."
Love the irony here!
Why doesn't he concentrate on STAMPING out violent conduct from his own team first before he starts talking about other teams players.

Jay

He also went on to say, "There is a difference between winning a penalty and just diving. Sometimes players know a tackle is coming in and ride it and go down. That's good play, winning a penalty,".... if it wasn't funny enough already

09 Oct 2012 17:50:43
The thing suarez needs to do is stop with the one arm in the air or the backward head flick that makes him look like he is simulating . An example the foul johnny Evans did it was a pen but he looked like he dives .
I don't agree with diving but why make a real foul look fake by over reacting .
1 thing did Suarez claim for a penalty ?

Jamesy

Or he could just stop diving when no one has touched him. Just a thought

No, he didn't claim for a penalty, he didn't put his arms up or out or beseech the referee - in my opinion this is why he wasn't booked. The movement was ridiculous, but he almost looked like he knew it was and he wasn't asking for a penalty/

Just a random question eds a few transfer markets ago one of you eds were screaming out for LFC to sign Park the forward who eventually signed for arsenal. I just wondered which ed that was? I for one am glad he didn't sign for us - he seems like he is going to cost Arsenal a small fortune to get rid of him ! Also what has happened there with him as I'm sure he can't be that bad not to get a game at all - or is he? Red Rom {Ed002's Note - I don't know that any of the Eds were "screaming out" for Liverpool to sign Park Chu Young. He is on loan at Cetla Viga right now.}

09 Oct 2012 17:10:36
It's nice to see Pulis joining the whining managers group (led by Ferguson) with his post match comments about Luis Suarez.
The ref has options to show cards for diving - that should be enough for all of us - and it is all round the world. Have a quiet word, Brendan.
Maybe Pulis was getting in first before anyone could mention Huth's stud raking of Suarez's chest after 5 minutes. Not to mention his team's achievement of getting 6 yellow cards (to none) during the match.
How can you take this chaps words seriously?
Suarez is a brave and talented player who regularly puts himself at risk with lesser but bigger defenders. Get off his back and get real - it's just another sideline issue to fill the headlines.
50YEARSaRED

Didnt see pulis complaining when peter crouch basket balled one in against city with his hands the other week . glass houses, stones comes to mind. also walters last year against us hes one of slur alex lap dogs.

alan waddle

He really is a lap dog for Ferguson. When PNE sacked Darren Ferguson a while ago Pulis recalled a player straight away that was on loan at North End. I'm talking same day to show his solidarity with the Ferguson family.

Heres a question for all the t##gers slating Suarez and his diving. If youre a goal keeper a you save the ball behind the line and carry on as if it wasnt, isnt that cheating? More so than diving and trying to win at best a penalty or a free kick. Yet nothing was mentioned of De Gea on Sunday. I didnt see him putting his hands up a claiming it was a goal and he will have known if it was over the line or not. Not to mention Carrolls save 6 foot over the line against Spurs a lot of years ago. Is that cheating? Too much is made of Suarez and his antics. His actions are no worse than Huth blatantly stamping on him and getting away with it or the goalkeepee playing on when he knows the ball has crossed the line.

The Irish Rover

According to Ronnie whelan all professional footballers cheat

So its just a question of how much they cheat?

And suarez is in the top 5% for cheating

I like diving. It is an art and an art which susrez needs to improve at.

Ahh, so it's ok to cheat then...

..... but not to take things too too seriously no

Great post Irish Rover, says it all, Last week it was Fergie's mate Rednapp having a go at Surez this week Pullis, who was only doing it to detract from the stamping incident and the amount of fouls that went on, 6 yellows speak for itself. When Ref's Media and opposing managers condemn Surez they don't look at the amount of fouls made against him a lot of them go unpunished. I think this is the last season we will see Surez in England, deep down I don't think he will ever be forgiven for the Evra incident and this is where a lot of the hatred stems from.

Hello Ed002,
wouldn`t it be better to look at Zaha than Walcott? I don`t really know how strong the interest in Arsenal winger is from Liverpool but I feel that there are better options that Theo. I understand that getting Walcott may be cheaper than getting eg Zaha but is it also better for the future? thanks for your thoughts. {Ed002's Note - I don't know anything about the interest in Wallcott aside from what Macca said. Zaha is attracting interest from a number of clubs and I understand that Liverpool, Southampton and Arsenal have taken a close look already this season.}

James Morrison s a better option nes pas

As a football supporter there is only one way to cut out the common trend of dividing - deduct points from the clubs. Fines are useless. That way managers and owners WOULD tell the players to cut it out.

I think if a player is found out by the ref then they should immediately show the dive in slow-motion on the big screens at the ground to humiliate the player.

It's the fractions and multiplication that gets me more than the dividing !

Blimey Liverpool would be relegated and Suarez too ashamed to come out the changing rooms

09 Oct 2012 15:19:45
My thoughts so far is that we would be further up the table if a) we had properly replaced Carroll b) Lucas had not got injured or we had 'decent' backup for him while he was out and c) maybe Brendan could have done a few different team sheets and/or substitutions!

All these will be sorted out in the next 6 months and then we'll all be singing Brendan's name out loud.

Keith

Another day saved thanks to Captain Hindsight

Point b) is the biggest factor. We miss Lucas terribly.

I will never sing BR

Nor would I ever chant FSG

Kenny, stevie, carra now that would be a different story

His name was lucas

He came from brazil

Now he crocked up in sao paulo on his house on the hill

His name was lucas

As decent a player as Lucas has become there is a tendency to overplay his status a bit. If someone had said to me that you will do badly if Lucas gets injured I would have thought the were a) mad b) lying or C) his agent. He's good, but he's not that good.

Anyone that doesn't recognize the value Lucas adds to a team knows nothing about football. Probably the same fool who doesn't rate Allen.

Lucas getting injured cost Kenny his job.

I agree lucas is important to the team
Not gerrard important but then who is?

Was just having a bit of fun

After all its the banter page aint it?

Is Gerrard that important to Liverpool anymore?

Mighty reds

Kenny cost Kenny his job no real idea of what to do bar enthusium

i think a little bit of perspective is needed by some. Those slating Allen, would you be if results had been different but he had played the same?realistically i am annoyed that we have only managed to collect6 points so far but it could be quite different, we have been unlcuky and have made big mistakes in games, they are only individual mistakes though. Skrtel's back pass against city, kelly's poor control in the same game, both led to goals. without those mistakes we would have won that game as we outplayed them (the current prem champions), against utd we dominated the game shelvey ebing wrongly sent off and a slightly dodgy pen lost us that one, even against wba we could of got something had the rashness of skrtel not cost us a pen and agger's stupid tackle. the only game this season we haven't deserved something was the Arsenal one. If we cut out the mistakes (predominantly by players who are experienced l'pool players) we would be in a much better league position, i believe rodgers is doing a good job just needs the luck to change and to cut out the concentration lapses.

09 Oct 2012 15:31:37
Mate we need to change formation if 4-3-3 doesn't work in games and stil play same pass and move even the likes of Barcelona and spain don't play rigid 4-3-3 we need to be clever rather then predictable thanks

Couldn't agree more mate. For me if you asked fans what we would get out of the city, utd and arsenal games a lot would have said nothing, due to yet another transitional period.
When you look at the games we pasted city and we threw it away. The utd game we were extremely unlucky even utd fans have to say that.
The arsenal game we were second best no denying it.
WBA game as you say could have went either way really, unfortunately not ours.

Sunderland game away was always gonna be tough and i was glad with performance. Stoke game again carbon copy of Sunderland game. We ARE starting to turn the corner, and too many people want instant success that's just not gonna happen.

Amazed how much Allen gets slammed on this, yes he cost 16.7 million but the boy has done extremely well since he arrived. Can't say that about Downing, Adam or Carroll who cost a combined 64 million and did less combined in 12 months than what Allen has done in his first two months of Liverpool career.

Lay off the lad for god sake.

Jonesred

I agree, liverpool have played much better football, and have outplayed the bigger teams except aresnal, i was disappointed against stoke, Huth straight red, perhaps the outcome would be different, but it was our first clean sheet, made some sloppy errors but we kept a clean sheet, we just need a clean sheet and put some goals in which lets be honest will come, if we can get top 8 this season i will be happy, we have to stop moving downwards before we move up. then next season our younger players who have been quality will have a prem experience hopefully bring in a 30 a season striker, then who knows what we could achieve.

Luis suarez is having a hard time playing football in the UK. LFC are suffering with results because refs are targetting suarez.
I would like Suarez to play his natural game, but it looks like both LFC and Suarez are on the wrong end of every decision.
It will be a pity if both lfc and suarez have to call it a day. Suarez moves else where and lfc lose a talented player beacuse the system has choosen to target him.
Really sad for both lfc and Suarez. No many have come out to support him. Question is why? Have the reds supporters also deserted him?

09 Oct 2012 14:37:57
How can you say the system is targeting him omg lad did you see that dive it was shocking and as football fans you can not and should not defend him for that omg is that how we have become just because he plays for us, its dives like that and the 8 or 9 dives last season why he doesnt get pens because a referee will only give a pen if he is 100% sure it is a pen so wake up all of you who are defending him omg this is madness. Ben

09 Oct 2012 14:55:57
Note: The system has not chosen to target him. He has brought all this on himself, do NOT feel sorry for the guy. He is a cheat and a disgrace to his profession.

09 Oct 2012 15:38:13
How are you supposed to support Suarez when he done that disgraceful dive on Sunday? How?? Do you put your arm around him and say 'Never mind, we forgive you' - HE WAS AN EMBARRASSMENT.

Oh please. What 'system' is against LS. It's all in your head.

I 'supported' Suarez all the way last season, as Kenny did. But he is now doing exactly the same to Rodgers.

There is diving, professional fouling and cynical play. Then there is Suarez football lunacy. That double half pike fosberry flop he tried just made a fool of himself and those who ran to his defence. Without that Pulis had no case. jmac

09 Oct 2012 16:53:37
Ben absoluty stop on, he is making us the most hated club ever.

It makes me laugh does all this crap about suarez, he is not the only player to dive, bales was just as bad and huths stamp on Suarez worse as is van persies elbow on cabaye. The fact that all the attention is being put on Suarez more than other players is annoying actually it's a piss take.

Hi Eds hope your all fine and dandy today folks.

I would just like to say ok suarez dived fair enough and that was wrong, but lots of players especially man u players have been guilty of this, would pulis stand and call for 1 of purple nose players to be banned when the only player that should be facing a ban is huth.the z list player kightly is saying now suarez is ruining the game ffs what next r they going to blame him for the finiancial melt down the world finds itself in.lets get behind our player just like they do at oldtrafford right r wrong he is not as bad as the press and players with far less talent will admit.tommy irish red

I hear what you say Tommy- but as a supporter of 40 years, I personally find it embarrassing for my club when Suarez continues to dive, even though he is well aware the media spotlight is on him for this type of behaviour.
Unless he has become so used to it that it is now instinctive, it is about time he thought about his diving and the effect it is having on the reputation of our beloved club. There should no need for BR or anyone else to talk to him about it. End of.

Why are you embarrassed? - Show me an incident where Suarez has gone down without contact being made - every manager - and I mean EVERY manager in football, and all strikers are told - if fouled, especially in the box - then go down, a very famous and successful Liverpool striker told me that if contact is made, he will go down.
If a player goes down - and video evidence is proved that no contact was made and it was a blatant dive, then that player - AND THE CLUB should face sanctions - that might stop the growing disease in the game.

John B

I also think, well Suarez dived but theres been number of times when he hasnt and not got anything, refs are definitely singling him out. more hes targeted more he probably will dive and in the stoke game, huth stamped on Suarez on purpose, after not even huth being booked suarez has a right to be frustrated and thought F it ill just go down. dont like seeing diving but Huth not walking and not being given clear penalties, Suarez must be frustrated.

Totally agree with above post. Yes your right Manx players seem to get away with the same ala Ronaldo, nani, Rafael, etc. in all honesty though Luis doesn't help himself his dive on Sunday was woeful and if he cut this out if his game we would have a far better argument, but whilst he carries on doing this we are falling onto oppositions hands and the refs also.

Some of his play acting is far worse than Ronaldo's by far and the management need to eradicate this as soon as possible.

Brendan must be doing his nut with him and if we had two other menacing strikers I'm sure he'd be benched for it, but he's our only top quality striker at present.
Borini is clever an positional sense is top class but he's still adjusting so give him time hopefully come jan we will sign another quality striker to take on this heavy burden

Why is Brendan backing Suarez? Cant he see that he dives? He would get more respect throughout football if he was to agree that he does dive and state that he would be having words with him.

Brendan never said Suarez doesn't dive. He said he shouldn't be treated the way he is being treated. Which is 100% correct. Would you like it if everytime you got fouled (elbowed and stamped on) the referee waves it away because he doesn't like your reputation? He doesn't even know you as a person. He's a liverpool player and the fans and manager naturally have to get behind him. John terry is a womaniser, racist and a violent chav but you don't hear every other clubs fans singing 'you know what you are' or jeering everyone he gets the ball...on top of that people booed Suarez whilst his national anthem was playing. Absoloute disgrace.

I take it u have no sense of management or team spirit at all..
the first rule for being a half decent manager apart from winning is standing by your players through thick and thin atleast in public ..
Ferguson says Nani is not a diver in the media while in training he must be instructing them to make the most of any challenge in the penalty area..
For me backing Suarez 100% is what the manager, club and fans should do ..The guy trusted us 100% and signed a long term deal and is easily our best player by a country mile and this is what fans like u give him in return..poetic justice I should say..

Why Should he say he dives? list me one manager who says their player dives and then I will ask BR to say the same.
Always support your players learn that from the Man utd or the Chelsea fans
Red 316

09 Oct 2012 15:52:15
What about Fergie when he says nani is not diver or young is not diver. Since suarez tore united deffence in 3-1 win (if you remember) from their all problems have started. Fergie is trying his hardest to drive suarez out of liverpool and we all know about media don't we. The way they traped suarez in evra`s case that should be enough to see how fergie is targeting him. Without proper evidence our so called Fa tarnished his reputation we need to stand by him 99.9% of players are diving but why only suarez is mentioned

Hi Ed's and Macca

We will for sure be looking for a striker i january. But do you know if we are looking for a "proven" striker or someone on their way up? And do you think we will look for a left back in january or wait for the summer?

The january window is not far away and I think they will probably have someone pointed out soon.

Besides that, I believe we have the right man in Rodgers! I'd be happy if we secured Europa League this year and challenging for a Champions League spot next year.
We have som great talent on our hands and perhaps a world class player in one or two of them.

Thank you for your time and effort.
Looking forward to read news from you an Macca in the future.

Norwegian Blob {Ed002's Note - I don't at this time know what the manager is plotting for January.}

IF and only if we are looking for a striker in January it will be a loan deal only

Concerning the Allen debate a recent poster stated that he was the 'best player in the division at harrassing to get possession and then retaining' - you are joking. For £16.7 million I expect alot more.

You can say the same about downing Carroll and Henderson. But everybody for some odd reason wanted to keep Carroll. If we had sold him we would not be in this position right now but at the same time neither would we if we had kept him.

09 Oct 2012 15:58:24
Mate we can say same about Borini if Rodgers wouldn't wasted 11m on him we wouldn't be in same position after all he was signed to score goals which we badly needed

I was wondering today if rafa was still at the club (I don't want him back btw) would he be bringing through the youth players like Rodgers has done or would he still be wasting money on rubbish. Old habits die hard but he is largely responsible for the youth coming through now, would he be giving them the chances because he helped drag the accedemy into the modern era and he had a bit of a connection with the youngsters?
I'm not too sure, I think he would of brought through a couple, shelvey and Kelly maybe. But not the likes of Stirling and suso at least for a couple more years.
Rafas biggest flaw was wasting precious transfer funds on players that were not good enough and making sure they never leave with gold plated contracts.

I think we have the perfect manager in rodgers for where
the club is right now.
We have a golden generation of youngsters coming through and we need to take full advantage.
Rodgers is the man to do it.

MIKEY

Reina, Johnson, agger, skrytel, alonso, arbeloa, mascherano, Garcia, Torres, kuyt, maxi Rodriquez. Need I say more?

Rafas influence is still in the team today. He was manager for the present not the future you ignorant person. Where are kennys and hogdsons players?

Nice try mate next time have a good think about what your going to type.

With the squad we now have, BR has no other alternative. I was watching the u21's last night, not 1 player in my opinion would have made a significant difference to the first team on a consistant basis even in the short term.

Patience is the key.

Sam armchair

Why am I ignorant?
All the players you name came in for big fees and that was my point. He liked to bring in players rather than promote from the accedemy.
My question was would rafa have started any of the new crop with them being the most talented we have had for ages? Or would he still be trying to bring in players for large fees?
Maybe I was a little naive trying to get any kind of adult conversation from one of the many rafa loving people on here.

In January

ST - Son Heung-Min £9m
WINGER - Walcott £14m
LB - Ogbonna £14m

Wouldn't cost the earth and would have an immediate impact on the team, Ogbonna can play across the back, Walcott & Son can play across the top as part of a front 3

BigD

We have £4 mill in the transfer budget for January. Where you got these figures from only god knows. The owners 'might' make some money available for a striker. Lets be realistic from now on shall we?

£4 mil in the transfer budget what a complete and utter fool, let me guess another poster who thinks hes well connected within the club.

I heard recently from a close friend of Kenny Dalglish's that Stephen Fletcher Mohammed Diame and Theo Walcott were our main transfer targets had he stayed as manager.

And jay spearing, Henderson and downing would still be in the starting 11...

Not to mention wisdom, sterling, suso and other youngsters wouldn't get the chances they're getting now.

I never realised until my mate told me last night that Joe Allen cost us £15million - that is way over the odds. He is an average player not a £15m player. {Ed002's Note - He cost £16.7M}

09 Oct 2012 12:05:07
£16.7m WHHHHAAAAAATTTTTT!

Can you define average What should an average player cost Downing 20 mil Henderson 20 mil ? Above average Mata 30 mil Modic 40 mil ? Allen has been constistent and a good addition to the team so get off his back and if you are a supporter I would have thought you would have a good idea how much we are paying for players

People need to realise what he brings to the team, ability to keep the ball, very rare for british players,he is able to dictate the tempo of our game.Makes vital interceptions.Players like allen are seriously underrated.Lucas was hammered by just about everyone, people now realise what a top player he is.

Do these people slating Allen actually go to the game? If they did they would realise what crap they are talking and what little knowledge they have. Allen keeps things ticking in the middle and is very good at what he does. These players do not hogg the headlines until they are injured and we all start saying how much we miss them. So wise up and watch the game a bit more carefully, you might just learn something.

Gally

Joe Allen is a quality addition to the squad, what is wrong with you people seriously!!! £16.7m is a lot of money but he is worth it for once.

When you think about it we could easily get that money back on him if we were to sell him on in a few years time even make a profit (just saying), that cant be said about Downing, Henderson or Carroll in fairness...

Rocky

People expect him to hit hollywood style passes, that's not his game, charlie adam springs to mind. When lucas returns i think he will be pushed that bit further up the pitch.Leave the lad alone,he's doing a good job.

09 Oct 2012 12:23:23
Im very sorry but I am a passionate supporter. It annoys me when we pay £35m for Carroll, £20m each for Henderson and Downing and even nearly £17m for Allen who, lets face it, is an average player, not great. Three forward passes on Sunday backs my argument up.

I agree completely. At first I have to admit after Downing, Carroll and Adam I thought we were paying over the odds for British talent but the lad has been brilliant for us.
I still think Henderson can be an integral part of things also.

Jonesred

Allen Sucks

With his 5 yards backwards and sidewards passes

You can score going backwards yes you can keep the ball but eventually someone has to take the ball forward and the only guy we have for that is stevie.

allen is never going to make chances or set up attacks.

When are people gonna realise how good he is. It does not matter that he doesn't pass forward a lot! Allen is probably the most important player in or current team because he is always an option, it doesn't matter if he accepts a pass and passes it simply, he is finding someone in a better position that he is. He keeps the game moving! If you see the team playing in the flesh you'd understand that this team would fall appart if he weren't in the team!
Owenll

Allen is worth every penny.

MIKEY

No, three forward passes on Sunday does not back your argument up! Or maybe we should be selling Skyrtel and Agger because they don't score enough goals! Allen isn't playing an attacking cm role at the moment and is probably a bit deeper than he would be if Lucas was fit and playing slightly behind him. Allens job at the moment is to harass and harry to get possession and then make himself available as much as possible to retain possession and keep moving the ball around - to do this he doesn't need to move the ball forward, he just needs to hiy another Liverpool player, something he seems to do about 96% of the time. What nobody seems to notice is these sideways and backwards passes form the basis for runs made by other players which pull the opposition midfiend out of position and force then back, so 30 seconds later when Allen gets the ball and again lays it off sideways he is doing so 20 metres further up the pitch having forced the other team back by retaining possession and pulling them out of position. He's a cracking player at what he's being asked to do and has shown signs that he's got more in his locker further up the pitch, its just that he's not often playing in an attacking role. Crikey I do get sick of hearing our own fans slating our better players! Do you think Chelsea fans moaned about how makalele wasn't pinging holywood passes all over the pitch? No, they were saying 'we've got the best player in the division at what he does' - Allen will soon be, if he isn't already the best player in the division at harrassing to get possession and then retaining it (often with a simple pass) - can't we, the fans of the club he plays for not recognise him for what he does for the team?
Biscanifyoucan

Honestly, some of the comments here are ridiculous, i've seen this Fella play live and he is immense he is everywhere picking the dregs up moving the ball along quickly.

Sunday he didnt back out of anything had his toe at everyball trying to gain possession...he was one of our best players Sunday against a bullish stoke. He works hard for the team he was everywhere making himself available, for those calling him average go and watch him play and literally focus on him for 10-15 minutes and see how hard he works....

Al

It's got to only be armchair fans that can't appreciate how good Allen is surely?

Ill go back to that cracking interview with Brendan Rogers on the red men tv on YouTube. Listen to what Rogers has to say about Allen! You can hear how excited he gets when he talks about him and he explains his current role

Rumours circling that FSG will make it up to Brendan for the failings of the Transfer deadline day and will award him with a 40 Mill transfer kitty in January.
have heard anything on this ed?

shivamlfc {Ed002's Note - Of course not.}

Hard for an Ed to hear something thats comes from your imagination

FSG won't spend 4M never mind 40M in january

Theres no value in the january market

To be honest it wouldnt shock me if we didnt buy anyone in january. These owners talk the talk, but cant back it up.

In all honesty I do think we will sign a decent striker come January whether it will be a marquee or top signing is another matter. In all honesty I think it will be a striker in the 10-15 million bracket with potential to be top class.
Lets not forget we still have Yesil to break through. I'm surprised he hasn't had an appearance as yet as even Rodgers talked him up a few weeks ago hinting he would start against young boys in Europa league.

Ed can you confirm if he's been injured since them ?

Jonesred

No value in the January market is there? The following have all been signed in the January transfer window Luis Suarez, Mascherano, Jelavic, Papiss Cisse, Patrice Evra, Vidic, Nigel De Jong, Edin Dzeko, Demba Ba, Adebayour, Brede Hangelaand.
There is clearly value and some great players you just need to know where to look.

All these players you mention went for vast sums of money - did they not?

So where is the value?

Remember FSG could not pay 4M for Dempsey a few weeks back

09 Oct 2012 10:54:11
This squad isn't at all complete, I don't think it needs overhauling, just important tinkering here and there.
Much of this could be done over the next three windows.

Now I'm NOT suggesting that this will/should happen, these are just some MERE examples of the idea. (They'll most probably not happen) :

JANUARY

*F Llorente< >A Carroll

SUMMER

*Neil Taylor J Enrique
*D MertensDowning
*WanyamaHenderson
*Sahin< permanent deal
*Move on Spearing, Cole, Pacheco and Wilson

JANUARY 2013

*A keeper may be looked at. Vorm/Ter Stegen are some o the options. Much, though, will hinge on Pepe. If he shows no improvement or gets worse between now and the end of the season, it wouldn't surprise to see a resolution being sought summer.
As I've said before, imo, your keeper's the last person you can't afford not to rely on.

Another huge concern of mine is the DM position. There's no proper cover at all there for Lucas. We need that shield for the defence. Allen, as talented a player as he is, is no option there.
Playing him there only serves to deprive the side of his composure, vision and passing further up the pitch.
We MUST get cover for Lucas.

Re Henderson, he's not entirely an unimpressive player. I like the lad's game, in fact. Problem's that, I can't figure exactly where he fits in and what unique attributes he brings to the table.

On the one hand, Suso, Shelvey, Sahin and Allen are all vastly better footballers and are ahead him in the pecking order.
And on the other, he doesn't come even remotely close to doing what Lucas does.
If he could, then I'd bin the idea of a new DM and put him in as Lucas' cover.
But alas, he falls between two stools for me.

But I'll give the lad a chance and see how he gets on. Hopefully he proves me wrong. Would love that very much.

Lastly,
"{Ed002's Note - I think a loOan thru the summer may be an option but right now it would be tough to name who it may be.}"

A loan for a centre forward? How? I'd thought it more likely that we we'd be looking at bringing in one January, as you said so yourself yesterday?
Or has that plan been binned?
Please expand on that ed.

{Ed002's Note - IF Liverpool cannot get the right forward for the right price in January the other option is a loan. It really is not that difficult to undersdtand.}

January is a big no no as is the Sumner really!

Look, hopefully without being offensive, if you just did your fantasy transfers on FIFA and watched those fantasy games instead of typing posts on here, we'd all be much happier people.

Did we not get suarez in the january window i would happily settle for another player like him ray3037

09 Oct 2012 11:29:03
What are your thoughts about Demba Ba?

09 Oct 2012 11:47:18
He is available for £7.5m in January due to a release clause in his contract. Knowing us we will probably pay about £35 million! {Ed002's Note - There is a caveat to the release clause that relates to it being for a CL team.}

09 Oct 2012 11:09:00
I don't think Johnson, Kelly or Flanagan can take Wisdom's spot at right unless he gets moved to centre back. I feel the same about Shelvey's spot in midfield, although I never rated Shelvey. He has proved me wrong. If we are able to raise funds by off loading Downing, Enrique etc. & buy a proven goal scorer we should be alright. We still have bags of talent in the academy like Jerome Sinclair, Texeira, Nacho etc

09 Oct 2012 10:55:31
Cant wait for jonjo to return after the international break. It's clear to see,the lad is improving all the time, and it's scary to think he's still only 20.I belive he is more than capable of hitting 10+ goals this season. And to think we only paid £2.5m for him, what a bargain!.

Yeah last bargain from rafa before he was sacked. He looks excellent, strong dynamic, aggressive. shame he was not available for stoke, would have given us much needed presence in the midfield.

The only bargain from rafa, more like

Sterling, Suso, Arbeloa, Alonso, Reina, Agger ,Skrtle. I could go on and on. Give Rafael a bit of respect you morons.

Jonesred

You mean the only Rafa bargain other than buying Alonso and Torres who we sold on for a combined 50m profit? Or Agger and Skrtel who we bought cheap and are now worth 40m+ between them? Or maybe Lucas who we bought for peanuts compared to his value now?

I read yesterday he was still only 20 I had forgot how young he is.
If all our bargain transfers where this successful we would as a club start making money rather than losing it.

liverpool need ; 1 striker= huntelar, CM=yann mvila, . real madrid ready to sell fabio coentrao .is good for liverpool

Huntelaar is terrible, he thinks he's better than he actually is, maybe he's had the odd good season but not consistant enough for me... We cant gamble with a striker this January, the club is under pressure now to get a striker that will show results straight away, Huntelaar is not that striker. Yann M'Vila will not be joining Liverpool fact, he's a good player but he wants a move to United if he's to make a move to England. Coentrao is a brutal defender aswell, ok going forward but bad at defending.

If i was to suggest players for January it would be more attacking options rather than defensive ones, we need goals and the Stoke game proved we need at least one striker capable of scoring in those type of games. Fernando Llorente would be my first choice striker who could be available in January to sign a pre-contract (free transfer in the summer) or an offer of £10m could get him in January.
Gaitan is another player i would like to see at Liverpool, quality player IMO and could be available in January.

Rocky

They wont want to come!.

Coentrao is good at defending & attacking. He wouldn't come though, moreover Liverpool can't afford him..

There are far more better players to look at than Huntelaar, even Yesil or Morgan would be better option than him..

M'Villa is a very good player, would love him here though.

09 Oct 2012 09:31:22
Stevie gerrard was always tipped to end up playing as a centre half by the liverpool coaching staff. How about converting him into a ball playing defender. It's clear to see that gerrard no longer possess the legs to play that dynamic midfield role, and he lacks the discipline to sit and dictate games.I belive he would be reborn in this role, just a thought.

I think that is still a way off yet mate. Maybe in a few years maybe, but clearly Gerrard does need to be used a bit more sparingly.

Mike in leeds

He is good at bringing it from the back & his distribution is second to none, but not great at defending..

Deep lying playmaker is a better option, more like Alonso'esque role.

I really hope we make a move for isco in january. The guy has a buy out clause of around 17m.I belive if we can offload downing, enrique and cole we should try and sign this guy,as he's exactly what we need in the final third.I also belive we will sign a striker, but belive it will be a loan deal.

Rodgers will be gone by the end of October. The job is way too big for him and this ticky-tacky football is doing my head in, it is so boring!

His filling in for Lucus while Gerrard is sulking around the pitch trying to make a successful pass, Allen should play in a more advanced role, but his doing a great Job in holding, ball retention? I'm sure you've heard of that count the amount of times he wins the ball and how many times he gives it away, given your comments you'll count till 4 5 perhaps. his one of the best passers in the game today. Only a "persons" would even think of downing Allen his been one of few players actually doing what he should. Once Rogers has a team of players he actually wants you will see us in the champions league. Bench Gerrard plz!! Just got back off holiday and saw the Suarez dive. Talk about embarrassing! He is a disgrace to his profession and Liverpool Football Club. Surely Rodgers must have words with him.

Suarez is diver , if not diver than he's getting down so easily. alan hansen even syaing that suarez is going down so easily . yeah he's our top scorer right now , but i dont really like the way he down and scream. good player but poor personality , a kind of player that will do everything to win the match even it is mean he has to cheating to win the macth

He is doing himself no good by diving.. Due to his reputation, refs are refusing to give him any penalties!

Chaki

Correct me if I'm wrong but prior to the weekend wasn't Suarez joint top scorer? He's probably still top of the pile for # of shots. Hardly wasteful considering his industry.

Reading through the posts after the Stoke game I really ask myself what game people watch. It was a frustrating game vs a team who we all know play a set way they tried to play football a couple of times and kicked it off the pitch. You could sense early in the first half we were playing the ball too slowly which leads me too my two points for BR to look at.
1. Why he took Suso off was strange the way he receives the ball off the line and his ability to receive the ball in tight situations is a joy to watch.
2. I would of taken Sterling off as his movement was poor making himself easy to mark and by not coming inside didn't create space for Wisdom on the overlap.

Yes the game was frustrating if we fans got a pound for every game we heard Liverpool had more chances to win the game than the other team we would be rich but I am sure BR given time will get it right.

Duncan

Give BR time. Its not an easy task, but signs are there.

He will come good.

Chaki

Sterling finished the game the strogest of any of our players and looked the most likely scorer suarez had a chance to slip him in but passed to gerard instead imo if he got that pass we would have had 3 points on sunday.Tommy Irish Red

This is more a query seen as the eds appear to have their fingers on the pulse regarding the mindset of BR.
Why does he want to offload Enrique and only see Johnson as cover? I can see why Downing should go as he's been woeful with the heart of a pea but Hendo seems like he wants to do a job for us. Plus he's only a young kid.
Are all of these guys are mego wages which we need to get off the books, does he just not want them, or is he showing the fans whos boss buy saying your King Kenny bought these and i'll just get shot of them cos I can?
For me
Enrique - Keep
Hendo - Keep
Carroll - Keep (I know 35 mill but we did get 50 for torres and the way we are we need a different dimension)
Downing - go

End of the day we'd make losses on them all, we havent got the money to splash out on superstars so why not train them hard and run them into the ground and mould them to what we need. You know make them work for their money

Keep Henderson - what! He is not good enough.

Surely Cole should be first out the door?

Watched the U21's yesterday,(first time I've had the chance in years) must say they play with a bit more verve then the 1st team, they dropped of the pace in the 2nd half, but some of their play was great to watch. N'Goo & Adjoran stood out the most. Eds.. Do you know if/how highly Adjoran is rated? because if this kid can play like that in the first team, we have another superstar beckoning!
Sama at the back also looks promising, and Morgan' play and movement were'nt to shabby either.

What I did like is that the ball wasn't played around the defenders to much, and they weren't so deep when they did play it, the ball was played upfield much quicker.

El Diablo!

That is what BR is trying to achieve with the first team. It comes over time.

Remember Borrell & co have been at this with the academy & reserves for years.

I post yesterday and asked

Agree . Good football with visible progression

Disagree . Long ball to a big man .
And I thought us Liverpool fans were football fans . If you want us to play long ball would you be happy with sam alerdyce or tony pulis as our manager ?
Just remember what it means . YNWA

The accidental comedy that is 'Being Liverpool' brings us insight into the current state of affairs at what was once the greatest Club in Europe, narrated in the hushed tones of reverence that Clive Owen brings to the show.

The humour is relentless, from the Porsche Panamera that Liverpool give to their new manager, the fabled Reading manager, who has resurrected his career with a short spell at Swansea, through to the gatemen at the Stadium who 'know all the scally's'.

It's a study in sociology with David Brent slogans a plenty.

First Brendan Rodgers takes us to his home, a house that Hollywood would be proud of, a swimming pool inside a spacious modern residence fit for a King. With a black and white image of his own face in the background Rodgers introduces his family from the kitchen in which the fridge is larger than most people's bedroom.

Clearly the King of his own castle he delivers the message to his subjects that his teams 'play with style......and steel' and we learn that to 'before you achieve, you have to believe', 'you educate players, you train dogs'. It's the stuff of legend and when he says 'my biggest mentor is myself' you realize you just might be in the presence of pure genius, I did say might be!

The documentary was clearly crafted to publicize the American ownership, and position Liverpool as a commodity in the US market, as the scenes at Fenway Park proved. The 2 teams owned by FSG together with TV cameras present, was like a topless celebrity on a Caribbean beach being caught on camera and published in Hello magazine just as their waning celebrity status needed a boost from images of their latest diet results. How lucky is that? How gullible are we?

Luckily reality, meaning the level of playing performance from the featured team brings some semblance of reality to this reality show as they continue to lose, proving that Rome wasn't built in a day.

Featured stars like Charlie Adams and Andy Carroll show strongly only to depart before the show aired, while Fabio Borini (4 clubs in one season) and Joe Allen (the debate over his number was pure comedy gold) flit into the picture like footballing gods.

Jay Spearing drives us to his Wirral home, by pure luck passing his Dad who works on the Mersey Tunnel on a lovely day with his girlfriend and child (I'm sure nobody noticed the Liverpool irony of that arrangement) sit with his dog in their back garden on Do-it-all furniture. Contrast with Rodgers Palace and the hierarchy is as complete as the kick about at Lucas Leiva's place prior to their multi-lingual monopoly game.

Ian Ayre just had to ride his Harley down the Dock Road to relax after a tough transfer window in which the show forgot to mention that they sold all their strikers except Luis Suarez, but luckily he was their best signing with an extended contract signed on TV.

With fans standing on rubbish bins (oh stop it with the ironic analogies), and Rodgers whistling at his students (oh no he does train them like dogs), thru to Dave Kirkby recounting days gone by with alcohol in hand, like a drunk remembering days of glory. The drama descending into farce and then comedy, the new version of The Office is now Being Liverpool.

I loved the scene where Jonjo Shelvey goes to see some kids on a rainy day, leaving them standing in the rain while a man holds an umbrella over his bald head. He stands above them by all measures, height, fame and money yet speaks like a kid off the streets in London, failing to absorb the words of Rodgers to 'stay on your feet' and getting sent off in their Cup Final as Rodgers era at Anfield means United have more points there this season than they do.

The documentary is compelling but not for its fly on the wall scenes like the lack of sound when they lose their opening game to West Brom 3-0, or the silent coach ride there and back, the torture expressed by Pepe Reina of having to sleep in luxury hotels instead of his own bed or the emotional history of Jamie Carragher. No, it's the comedy of the narration, like a speech at a funeral, Clive Owen expresses the continued failure of the 70's success like describing the career of Adam Ant. It's over and no matter how much you hope it's not coming back.

Being Liverpool might have seemed a good idea to John Henry when they agreed to make it, but frankly it just proves that the glory days have long gone but the humour of the people of Liverpool, who work for Liverpool still remains.

Football is just a game, and somehow the people in it have been elevated by economics to giants in society, but Being Liverpool shows us the reality that people like Spearing are just like us, they own dogs that look like them and they work for people like Rodgers who have never done it themselves but think that they know what it takes!

It's all about money now, the Porsche and the pool can't hide the fact that the Ford Mondeo that is the team can't win the premiership race in the foreseeable future. This show will go down in history alongside Boys from the Blackstuff as a social commentary of its time, and for that it really is good for a laugh but not much else

I find the programme very irritating and it just shows how far detached footballers are from the ordinary fans.

Totally agree

Amusing post - a load of rubbish but an amusing post, from a pseudo-sociology student from the streets of Salford

Interesting that a manc sat through three hours of a documentary on LFC. Even more interesting was that his attempt at sardonic wit was so short of what Old Toilet normally produces.

I see maxi scored for newell old boys after 24 secs this weekend, glad to see him doing well, shame we lost him he would have relished Rodgers style of play, one of the most clinical finishers we had aswell, he would been very handy to keep one more year. Keaner

Having just him or Kuyt for another year would have been wise. I love the youth in our team, but sometimes there is no accounting for experience. Whatever was said about Kuyt and Maxi, they were both seasoned pro's, regular internationals and big game players. I miss them both.

Hi ed's regarding the weekends escapade with Suarez I know it was embarrising that he dived in the box I do think that the fa should give out more serious punishments if found guilty on a later date, Suarez isn't the only one is is littered anong the prem, bale was a good example vs villa where he just dropped like a sack of **** for no reason trying to fool the ref, I know we do shout at ref's all the time and they do get alot of decisions wrong but it must be difficult when you have players doing that plus reputation etc.
but I kind of side tracked from my original question an tha is is there any talk of them removing that silly rule that they can't charge someone if the ref saw it but didn't act on it, example's being van persie elbow and Huth stamp, because at the end of the day doesn't matter if it's joey Barton you are stamping on its desgusting. I don't understand how with such vast sums of money flowing through the league that the system has been ancient and flawed for years.
Sorry for the rant

Kind regards

The southern red {Ed001's Note - the laws of the game get tweaked every year, but this one is similar to the non-appealing of yellow cards rule, it is unlikely to be changed as things stand. Simply because Blatter, in his infinite 'wisdom', thinks that the way to fix having useless refs is to back them and increase their powers.}

Drogba and Robben always got away with this rubbish all time, n what about ronaldo, that lad would get in olympics for diving.

Mate there's NO chance of suarez getting a ban as it was a yellow card offence. Maybe if the penalty was given (regardless of us scoring or not) there would be a chance of a punishment.

I've been goin the match for 30 years and seen some great strikers rush, fowler,Owen dalglish,Torres all were big Heros to the kop and they were worshiped by all the fans I just can't feel the same about Suarez he's a cheat hate to admit it but he dives play acts he's a selfish footballer he lost dalglish his job he doesn't score enough goals and hel never be a liverpool legend as long as he carries on cheating I realy think we should be looking for his replacement and cut our loses

Wire red

His diving is a fraction of what he's about. We all know the likes of Robben, Ronaldo, Young and rooney have been way worse the Luis. Love the guy and he will end up being remembered for his ability more than his theatrics

Suarez is a quality player capable of real briliance at times, but can also be a really frustrating player to watch. Cannot fault his hunger and workrate at,all. At the moment he has a lot of pressure on him to score, because lets face it borini hasnt proven himself yet, gerrard can score but not every game, apart from them there is no one, and luis although a forward player is not the most clinical and would benefit from the support of a clinical but creative player playing beside or just in front of him. Imagine suarez just behind a prime torres... J staff

09 Oct 2012 03:11:47
Mate this is modern footy with modern players. Not only suarez does it but 99.9% of players do it . If you see carefully footy has changed a lot eg: sugar daddys or teribble refree or corupt uefa/fifa etc etc. FAIR PLAY is only for show nothing more. either you except it and move on or moan. Now days players are not even interested playing for their country

Wire red yah man lets sell our best players just because fergie made a comment about him and u started beliebing it, he is the man the best we habe right now

redh0t

Talk about the media clouding a fans judgement.. jumping on the bandwagon is pretty weak

I agree entirely about cheating....because that is what diving is...and it doesn't matter if everyone does it...it is still cheating. But I assume from your name that you are from Warrington? You therefore should have enough sense to support our best player and hopefully we can 'persuade' him to stop cheating
