Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

09 May 2014 21:52:50
The ads on this site crack me up.
Just seen easy to use defibrillators haha
Are they targeting us Liverpool fans incase we cause an upset this Sunday, I say the whole country bar Manchester and Kirby want us to win it now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Are you serious? Everyone seems to hate us now. The whole country was mocking us after the Crystal Palace game. If you check other clubs' forums, you will see that they all want City to win the league.

I can't blame them for feeling this way after the way some of our fans starting behaving when it looked like we might win the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes - some of our fans got ahead of themselves.

Although a lot of that mockery will be because other fans now fear us.

But the team has also has invited ridicule, with the events of the last two matches.

Time to learn some lessons, put the season to bed, and move on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Certainly not everyone want us to win the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol, nobody fears lfc, they just don't like you that's all

Agree0 Disagree0

Really. I think your team fear us word.
what was it 9-0 on aggregate this season.
I have noticed a lot more fans who normally don't have much to say about LFC who have been mocking the last two games.
I take it as a compliment though, it shows how we are progressing.
I keep stressing that this is not a 1 season flash in the pan with Liverpool. We have been playing football to match any side for the past 18 months and we are only going to get better.
The only time other fans churp up is when you are doing really badly *united* or if you are doing really well*us*.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2014 13:14:46
So you're telling me that when we meet your beloved spuds next season you won't be shaking in your pants?

I think you'd be lying then!
9-0 LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

The Word always cheers up the mood here with his jokes.

Hi lads, I know its a blow to his confidence but does anybody else think its a blessing in disguise that Coutinho didn't make the Brazil squad? I think a full summers rest will be great for him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Feel a bit sorry for him actually. Maybe being in that environment and them players might have given him a bit of confidence going into the champs league next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can only assume brazil will have one hell of a feckin squad!

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally think its a bad decision and scolari is a bit of an imbecile. His team selection is a bit bizarre to say the least, and he very much gives players in the brazilian league an equal opportuinty against those who have played in europe. he's taking Jo, the man city flop for gods sake! And fred!

Agree0 Disagree0

If Coutinho can't make the LFC first XI as a regular, he has little chance of playing for Brazil.

He has one cap from 3-4 years ago (off the top of my head) so it's hardly a surprise he wasn't picked.

Scolari has won the WC before, so I'd be a lot slower in calling him an imbecile if I were you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well to be honest I don't think Coutinho did enough to get in the Brazil squad. The side seems to have been picked from the confederations cup last season and barring a severe decline in form, an injury or a massive improvement in form by a fringe player it would always be the same. Coutinho has had flashes in the pan but hasn't consistently lit up this season.

Was just reading through the banter archives and I thought I would cheer you up a bit:) Courtesy of Mr. Harry Scouser (home-fan) and the word (spuds biggest fan)

"I am not sure. But if spurs pull of soldado, lamela and errikson for Bale. Then I would personally go and meet Levy and Give a high five. Jesus, what a team that is. Better than city and chelsea.
negrado. navas, silva aguerao. who?
That would a bad news for UTD and Arsenal, Spurs would finish above us,, No matter where we finish, They are a solid side with top 4 quality playerss "

Harry Scousser

"It would be the final nail in Liverpool's coffin of EVER getting in the top 4 "

Theword

Hilarious, LOL :))

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very funny ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha brilliant

Agree0 Disagree0

Shows how much changes in football, always expect the unexpected, tbh I thought exactly the same as harry at the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Now, now. In all fairness to Harry he has put his hands up and admitted he was wrong. Very wrong.

The Word on the other hand is as confused as Daniel Levy when it comes to football. Thus his opinions deserve to be openly mocked.

Agree0 Disagree0

The number of times Harry has embarrassed himself!

The Word's opinions always make me laugh. He is a confused individual alright.

Hello reds, I would just like to ask a question to ed. Feel free to put yours in as well. We've known for a while now that the areas we're looking to improve in are a LW, left back and a central midfielder. What would be your choice if we were to sign a player for each of the 3 positions?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Arda Turan, Moreno and Medel.}

Lb: Ashley Cole
Cm: lallana
Lw: konoplyanka

Turan, muller, lallana , all team players . Put in hard yards also

Agree0 Disagree0

Luke Shaw
Adam Lallana
Jay Rodriguez

Agree0 Disagree0

Coentrao
Lallana
Konoplyanka

Agree0 Disagree0

Cole would be good aswell, but not at his wage

Agree0 Disagree0

Moreno/kolorov
konoplyanka/nathan redmond
lallana/w Hughes

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - that's cheating.}

Moreno, Konoplyanka & Lallana. However I would not say no to Coentrao and Turan and if we can wangle it Boateng from Bayern if Skrtel were to leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just to be a bit different, I'll go:

LW: Son
AM: Meyer
LB: Erkin

Agree0 Disagree0

I think I'd go

LB - Coentrao
CM - Sandro
LW - Lallana

Haven't watched Rojo play really and I'd be happy with medel!

Lallana would obviously be quite pricey but got that premier league experience konoplyanka and tello don't have. Although I think kono would be a good addition as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cole, Richards, Medel, Barkley, Lallana, Konoplyanka, Vela

Agree0 Disagree0

LB - Luke Shaw
LW - Yevhen Konoplyanka
RB - Martin Montoya

(we can all dream. )

Had to choose between a RB or CD.

Figured that Kelly, Llori and Wisdom are decent backup options for CD next season in addition to Sakho and Skrtel (who I reckon will stay). I'd love to give these lads a chance.

If Toure and/or Agger remain (though I expect one or both to leave) then 1 or 2 of the younger lads could enjoy a loan spell.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rojo
Xhaka
Konoplyanka

Agree0 Disagree0

Coentrao
Lallana
Shaqiri

Agree0 Disagree0

R. Rodriguez
Rakitic
Shaqiri

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry ed I gave 3 that I would love to sign and 3 that I'd be more than happy with, although both LBs are I assume out of our current financial grasp?
(Kolorov and moreno)
on a side topic do any of the eds rate Redmond or have MOTD highlights shown him to better than he actually is?

Well I can but dream can't i? Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

T.Muller (right forward/advanced wing of 433)
A.Lallana (LM of 433)
M.Rojo (left back)

alternatively: Cole, Pastore(AM of 4213), Griezmann (LF of front 3)

Eds do you see a busy window this summer for the prem teams or a cautious approach now that FFP are becoming more important?
Also do you see a lot of ins and outs at anfield this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - impossible to say, it really depends so much on what deals are made early for both questions. If a big deal goes down, it will spark a chain reaction.}

In other words Suarez ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not necessarily. Any big deal sets in motion a number of smaller deals, which in turn can lead to more big deals and so on.}

09 May 2014 17:47:22
Evening eds was just wondering if we do get lallana will that end the interest in any other wide fowards or attack minded midfielders such as rakitic?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it would end any interest in Rakitic yes.}

So would we still be in the market for a wide forward?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

Thanks for the reply ed any idea what kind of fee it would take to get lallana?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - a lot more than I would expect us to be willing to pay mate.}

09 May 2014 17:21:13
If he can play centrally then sure i'd love him but he strikes me as a number 10 through and through, english mata if you will. I didn't say konoplyanka dominated games Bon, just that when he got the ball he had certain airs about him, lallana and konoplyanka are nothing alike, hence why need konoplyanka more.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes they are nothing alike, lallana is a better player

Agree0 Disagree0

He's far more of a complete midfielder than Mata mate. He's like an industrious Coutinho. Easily capable of playing on the sides of a diamond, in the number 10 role or as a winger. Its that versatility that makes him appeal to potential buyers. He is actually better when he comes deeper as he dictates the game and drives his side forward. A very rare kind of player.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he can play centrally then that will be a useful asset to us, but i'd still have queries about whether that is something that several other players could do aswell.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 17:18:23
Eds how do you think involvement in the World Cup will influence the performance and endurance of players next season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - At least one club is trying to give the players protection by cancelling their pre-season tour. Players need a break.}

I don't think the English lads have to worry to much, we will get knocked out in the group stages ;0)

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 20:22:31
Thanks Ed002 - I am more concerned by the demands of our players having to play a tournament in S America in extremely hot temperatures than the demands of taking part in the CL next season. I hope the team is well rested before the new season

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - To be fair the Liverpool players have played a lot less games than the players from some other English clubs in recent years, with Suarez taking an extended holiday each season as well.}

Which club if I may ask?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea.}

Is it Chelsea Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes, they want to look after the players.}

Can I ask which team is this?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea.}

09 May 2014 15:54:06
Ed02, good day to you. I was interested in hearing your thoughts on Greg Dyke's proposal yesterday. I thought it all seemed sensible and like the idea of B Teams so long as they are integrated with other competitive clubs. That said, I don't have enough information or knowledge to fully comment on the resistance of the FL et al.

Cheers

Bryan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am short on time right now Bryan with cocktail hour looming, and a concert to host at our house tomorrow and a visit to London on Sunday. Try me Monday or Tuesday - but I do have stong views.}

Have a splendid evening Ed and weekend too. A few cocktails are well deserved I'm sure.

I will give you a shout mid week as I'd like to hear your views.

Have a great time,

I have a large tub of Hagen Daas pralines and cream, a large plastic sheet and I have Keira Knightley's and Emma Watson's contact numbers on speed dial on my 'phone. If we end up winning the league on Sunday, I'm hitting the dial button because anything is possible, and miracles can happen.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Err think I will just have a beer myself.
I think that ice cream will be well melted and evaporated by the time them two came round as well mate haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll keep it in the freezer until the doorbell rings.

Agree0 Disagree0

Neither of them skinny buggers will lick ice cream off you pal, too many calories

Agree0 Disagree0

Get some frozen yogurt in instead mate haha

He can lick ice cream of them maybe?

I had a dream last night, Liverpool won the league, I can remember me running out the pub in the middle of the street, Crying with excitement and disbelief we pulled of something so unrealistic off, The feelings I had were so uncontrollable and felt so real.
And then I woke up, to disappointment as it was Friday morning and it's still 2 days away. I would give anything for this to be real come Sunday,
All season long even when we was at the top even after the Chelsea game I started to believe but I tried to ignore this ache, but now I've finally realised that I've always believed. Even if I didn't want to, maybe a 'jinx'
I am so proud to be a red it's unreal, The feelings they give me is something to be proud of.

Second. Third . First I'll always remember this season.
Have a good weekend fellow reds

Interesting to see Jordon Ibe and Suso in today's Melwood training photographs . I wonder if either will make the bench .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pretty sure Suso isn't back yet, might you be getting him confused with Teixeira?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 16:33:20
Connor Coady was in one.

The player who reckon could be Suso (or Texiera) was wearing the number 30 shorts but number 11 jumper. That is Suso and Assaidi's numbers. Its definitely not Assaidi. Texiera wore the number 53 shirt for Liverpool against Fulham.

Suso did get sent off in Almeria's match on the 4th, so won't be playing another match this season for them. But would they send him back early?

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely looks like Suso and nothing like Teixeira but can't find my specs . Can anyone help me out ( with the pics not the specs ) .

Surely they don't have to wear each others shorts on £50,000 a week!

Agree0 Disagree0

I saw the pics of ibe and Cody back, didn't see suso! As if texeiras on 50k a weeks too!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 19:43:50
none of the players mentioned combined make even 50 k a week. Suso+Ibe+Teixeira+Coady make peanuts in football terms!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 20:15:28
I'm fairly sure it's Teixeira.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the season is over for Suso as he got send off in his last game, and hence will miss the remaining games Almeria have.

For Ibe and Coady, I am not sure if Birmingham and Sheffield Utd have finished their season.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2014 07:43:42
Birmingham's season is over after they pulled off a great escape. Shefield's season as well. Suso was sent off but he was in none of yesterday's pictures.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 15:19:33
Really not getting all the lallana hype. Awesome player, have always thought of him highly.

But the fact is we have coutinho, suso, alberto and teixiera in that position who are all more than good enough. And as I recall, the eds said he doesn't want to move and southampton don't want to sell.

We should be looking at a wide forward and if another central midfielder is needed, i'd imagine it will be a more all round approach, not a number ten. A commanding centre back to replace skrtel, agger or toure is also
required, as well as a left and right back. Possibly a back up striker like heung min son but who knows. Other than that we are sorted.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 May 2014 15:23:47
Texiera would be going on loan and Alberto is just a name, Llalana is a versataile player, and BR like such player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to agree with you there A.W
He is an excellent player but his arrival will hamper suso's progress and he would cost in excess of 20 million
A wide forward (please Konoplyanka) should be the priority along with a left back (Rojo would be a nice option)
And then if money is left perhaps a younger cm like xhaka or hughes

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite right reet2107, 20+ million for the one position in which we are covered just fine.

I have to say, on the very odd occasion I have seen konoplyanka, in the world cup qualifiers and europa league, he does look special. He just has that X factor, that unpredictability, almost like suarez or ronaldihnio. You can tell when he plays he's on a different wavelength to everyone else on the pitch. I really do hope we get him over someone like shaqiri, who is basically just sterling but not as good.

And harry, that's disrespectful towards alberto. Personally I've very much liked him when he has played, and can't understand why he doesn't get more of a chance. All players who try deserve recognition, good or bad. Moses for example, is just a face, but not alberto, the boy has talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 16:20:54
AW,

Mate I wasnt disrespecting him, I nor anyone saw him much this seaosn. And I fear, he would be here next season, He has talent, and got the skills, But he is too slow, Something BR doesn't wanna see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant lallana play wide? and I've never seem konoplayanka dominate a game?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana is known for not having great pace, so i'm not sure how it matters much in this case. If, by your description, he has talent and the skills, what we're basically paying 20 million for is a luis alberto who is 3 years further in progress. i'd rather stick with alberto than part with that money tbh mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree with Bon, lallana dominates games and is a class act and will be for years, potential Liverpool captain in the making.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 16:46:41
AW,

I agree, that's a great point made, I am not sure, what's BR thinking, He defeneatly need players with pace.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do we need players with pace? We have plenty!

Agree0 Disagree0

Clearly didn't watch kono vs spurs, he tore naughton a new one ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 19:29:46
so did Sterling, who ripped him a new one on a whole other level than Kono actually. Naughton is nothing to judge a player by.

Agree0 Disagree0

A deep lying playmaker to replace gerrard and left and right back centre back is stronger than people think

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana is like a slower version of Gerrard in his prime.

Right there that makes him one of the most valuable players in the EPL.

20m? I would bite their hand off

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana can play wide, as can Suso. They are both versatile players and that is something BR likes. I wouldn't worry about Lallana's arrival limiting Suso's chances severely.

Teixera and Alberto perhaps need loans.

Agree0 Disagree0

I will be very happy with Lallana.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steer clear of a David a Silva too. He's as slow as Lallana.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 15:18:25
Wherz, YNWAdam these days?. Missing him and his stats, Seaosn coming to an end.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I made a new account mate. I have a new email address and fancied a change. When the transfer window re-opens I might do a few reviews again. I've been taking them elsewhere though as its very easy for anonymous trolls on here to leave abuse. It depends on if anyone wants to read them again. They were successful last summer, but people were less touchy then for some reason. I probably lost some credibility by supporting the Moses loan at the time which in hindsight hasn't worked. I also doubted Gerrard and although he's still making the odd mistake he has improved massively throughout this season. Some of the die hards haven't forgiven me for that, but Ed001 and many others who had the same opinion have been instantly forgiven. It doesn't matter how many times I congratulate Gerrard, people won't drop it so we'll see whether I do any more blogs or not. Still itching to get the stats out ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 16:22:07

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 18:30:53
That's the spl part of the group.

Agree0 Disagree0

EMS, you may well be alluding to me as one of Gerrards die hards not forgiving you but just to get things straight, yes we disagreed and I turned out to be correct in this instance ( but hey, I was wrong about Henderson and I hold my hands up, if I remember correctly I think you rated Henderson? Not sure ) but my point was you had a following of "sheep" which annoyed me, you say
Ed(s) agreed, I don't know if any did or not but the difference being I reckon you went over the top and actually only around 2/3 weeks ago you said "Gerrards career is littered with midfield failings" or words to that affect, now that is a statement which is quite frankly ridiculous. I pointed out to you that the day before your statement what Zinedine Zidan said about Gerrard
And how I would take his point over yours, you never actually replied to that. Anyway let's bury this argument and realise it's all about opinion and we can't be right all the time and when we are not just hold our hands up, at the end if the day I hope you are happy that Gerrard proved you wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

EMS. What you said is perfectly reasonable. Gerrard has not proved anyone wrong yet. He has some good games and some bad games, and in my view is naive to aspects of the role he plays, particularly in relation to controlling the tempo of a game.

He is our main defensive midfielder and the team is leaking goals like a sieve.

There is a tendency to ignore his shortcomings in the role, and obviously he is not entirely at fault for our lack of a defensive spine, he is part of the reason. He switches off defensively and panics tactically, see games v. Villa, Chelsea and Palace to see how he stops playing simple passes and resorts to long-balls - losing control of the game in the process.

But I fear that because of his legendary status, his failings will always be overlooked by many. I fear we have gone on a great run despite of him, not with him as a main reason for it.

I feel he is not right for the role technically/tactically and remain to be convinced that he will be. The English media will naturally fawn over him.

I try to be objective and obviously I am not dissing Gerrard. He has done an admirable job in an unfamiliar position and his effort cannot be faulted, but in the long-run, we need to think ahead imo.

If I say were to say that I don't think he'd make a great left-back is that bad too? DM just isn't his best position.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can I add that this is the same media who voted Ryan Giggs as player of the year a few years back, (when he was pretty turd) as part of a similar love-in.

Also, I loved Zidane as a player, but can people stop quoting him saying how great other players are.

He's a polite guy and hardly says a bad word about any player.

Pele once said that Nicky Butt was one of the best midfielders in Europe. Just because Pele is a football God doesn't mean he's right.

BR says that Gerrard is amazing in the role. He also says that Glen Johnson is one of the world's best RB's. I'll form my own opinion there!

I'm sure we all agree that come Sunday, we'll be cheering on Stevie G on Sunday no matter what position he plays.

Finally, no harm in a discussion/
debate on tactics and personnel.

Isn't that why we're here, because of our love of reading the opinions of our fellow fans and joining them for discussion?

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarezisagenius, opinions opinions opinions. I think your opinion is wrong but as you say that's what its all about, But just to bat something back to you, you make negative comments re Gerrards passing, any positive? Fulham, absolutely wonderous pass to Sturridge to score, to Saurez at Anfield (cant remember v who right now) many many more. Gerrard has continually throughout the season been at the top or near to the top in any poll you would like to choose, he's been voted in PFA team of the year, has goals & assists.
You dismissed ZZ's prasing of Gerrard, but it wasn't just praise it was the ultimate praise, "for a couple of years Gerrard was THE best midfielder in the world". This is what my main gripe with EMS is when he said only recently that "Gerrards career has been littered with midfield failings", one question, do you agree with that?

Agree0 Disagree0

AlanHuyton. You miss the point I am making, my fellow red.

I am not saying that Stevie isn't capable of the odd great pass, what I am saying is that in his DM role, his tendency to try for the spectacular is often problematic when the primary focus of his job is to maintain possession, protect the defence, gain control of the midfield and dictate the tempo of a game.

I already made it clear that I don't care for populist 'poll' nonsense. As I stated before with the Giggs example, such media-darling nonsense does not prove anything.

Also, your 'it wasn't praise, it was ultimate praise' comment about Zidane is obviously a bit silly, and tbh- where did he say that? Do you have a source?

I also doubt Zizou watched every LFC game over a two year period. I did though.

Also, like I said earlier, even if ZZ did say that (which I doubt) it doesn't make it true.

Gerrard was never the best midfielder in the world. The closest he came was for 6 months or so the season when we finished 2nd to Utd. He was amazing then, practically perfect. Then it all fell apart.

As for the 'midfield failings' comment by EMS.

If EMS means that Gerrard has a career littered with costly individual errors, he may have a point. I can think of quite a few costly mistakes. Only someone delusional would deny that.

Obviously he has saved our asses many times more, but the point made by EMS remains valid. We can't just refuse to accept things that are very real just because we don't want to.

As for your comment on all his 'goals and assists' this season. he has hit all the penalties and taken piles of free-kicks and corners, of course he has scored goals and has assists.

Looks great in opta-stats, fantasy football or whatever, but it's hardly as if he has been an attacking colossus. I'd have fancied myself to have bagged a few in such a situation. Wouldn't you?

Also, I'm sure EMS thinks Stevie is an excellent player, as do I. He has been amazing for LFC. Though if people think he plays the DM role well, they may get used to leaking soft goals imo. There is a direct correlation between Stevie playing there and our defence being rather porous.

I simply think (as explained) that DM is not his forte. Pretty obvious to me tbh. He doesn't defend very well and is not a calming influence on the side.

The best DM players like Keane and Makelele knew the importance of keeping possession and taking the 'sting' out of a game. I don't think Stevie has the footballing intelligence to do that, and the evidence to support that is very clear.

He'll look great given time and space. Against teams that press him, he will look panicked and make rash decisions.

Still a legend though. Just not a legendary DM player. I'd love for him to prove me wrong, but I haven't been convinced yet. Not even close.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarezisagenius, ok I just made the ZZ quote up, google it as I can't be bothered, I read it somewhere either in a paper or online, I am 100 % sure it was genuine. We don't and won't ever agree on this subject.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Alanhuyton.

Now you're just repeating those supposed ZZ quotes and still missing the point.

I have described my views in detail, yet you have still offered nothing to contradict them.

I have never said that Stevie is a bad player or anything of the sort. I have explained his weaknesses when playing in DM, which are apparent.

You are just ignoring the points I am making. You seemingly cannot address them.

Do you think that Giggs was player of the year when he was voted as such?

Giggs was just the media darling of that year, by your rationale, I should just accept that he was the best-seeing as how you see Stevie in the team of the year as the infallible truth.

But I am no 'sheep'.

Also, why on Earth should EMS need to be 'forgiven' by anyone either? Such a small-minded attitude. Is he guilty of war crimes? Get a grip.

Also. I found the quote from approx 5 years ago, apparently from ZZ, saying that Gerrard and Paul Scholes are the best midfielders of the last 20 years.

It was in the Daily Mail and supposedly is from an interview with the Mirror.

I don't take quotes from rags like the Daily Mail and the Mirror even remotely seriously. They push a nationalistic agenda and are destructive trash on par with the S*n.

Who knows what ZZ really said. Likely lost in translation.

Remember that Zidane is also cited as saying that "Scholes is undoubtedly the best midfielder of his generation." Would you agree with that too?

As I already said. As with Pele and Nicky Butt. such comments mean little.

And again, regarding what we are talking about, which is Stevie playing DM, those comments mean even less.

When it comes to judging players in the DM role, perhaps I have higher standards than you do. I have described my rationale for this view in some detail before.

You have offered nothing to the discussion but statements to the effect of 'Stevie was jolly good years ago, when playing a different role'.

We all know that.

That is not the issue.

You need to slow down and read what has been written, not just get ridiculously defensive whilst trying act like you are more 'loyal' because you have no opinions/constructive criticism to offer on tactical and technical aspects of the game.

We all love LFC and Stevie. It is not a contest.

Seems there are a lot of fans who need a 'straw man' to attack, just to prove to themselves what uber-fans they are.

Reminds me of the pro-Rafa brigade who were ripping at getting BR in as manager. They've all shut up now.

These types should support the team, rather than spending days ostracising fellow reds for having/ offering their own views on the technical and tactical aspects of the game.

I love you Alanhuyton. YNWA my friend.

Here's to 3 points and I hope Stevie plays a blinder, we should hammer Newcastle today as they are a truly pathetic side and I expect us to have all the time and space in the world against them.

I tip them for relegation next year barring a transfer market miracle for them.

I'd love to have seen Lucas (though he is not yet back to his imperious best) and Gerrard swap midfield roles in the last few games. Seemed logical to me at the time.

Stevie has still got lots to offer in a more advanced role I feel, and he is a good backup option at DM. I simply feel we need better first-choice option if we are to improve defensively. A fully-fit Lucas would fit the bill. but he seems to be struggling after his injuries. If he can be ready/recover for next year it would be amazing.

Fingers crossed for the title today. You never know!

Dear BR,
You have made us all proud this season, But We have our final game at home against Newcastle. I am sure we have very slim chance to win the title. But Yet, let's just win the match rather than outscroing a free flow city (currently +14 GD), A good neat clean performance and 3 points would do a world of good.

Got an idea for poll of the day. Stick your comments below. Would love ed001s view as well.

Would we have won the league this season if carra stayed an extra year and played instead of skrtle?

I think yes and with a game or 2 spare. He never made as many mistakes as skrtle and organised the defence a whole lot better as well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I would have to vote yes, we have been desperately lacking a leader at the back all season.}

I'd say no, because we would have had to play much deeper because of carras lack of pace, which in turn would have affected us going forward.a 25 year old carra yes, but not last seasons carra.just my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, yes and yes again! It's really frustrating seeing him in that Sly studio with dog face Neville when he could have been making the difference on the field

Haha love that comment ed001.
Carra as defensive coach? Dunno, he was a great leader and defender but does that automatically make him a great coach? I dunno, but I'm sure there will be a place for him one day should he want it.
The pace issue is a valid one, although skrtle is maybe a bit quicker he drops back too deep himself anyway, also carra would have Johnson covering properly. Still carra for me.

If he had stayed on as player/coach to help organize the defensive line & then perhaps start the odd game when we need a defensive performance. yes it might have made a big difference. That was actuqlly expected of Kolo when Carra decided to retire b

As much as I'd love Lallana, and I do think he's a fantastic player, I think the need for a player in the ilk of Konoplyanka is far more urgent. A few times this season we've seen teams shut up shop and not allow us to thread through-balls to our forwards, and one method of counteracting this is to play it to the wide areas to stretch the defense. At the moment only Sterling can fulfil this role effectively. Konoplyanka is unbelievably fast, powerful and can lose his man with ease, his crossing is top notch and he bags goals. Hopefully we'll get both (fingers and toes crossed), but in terms of necessity, my vote would be Kono. I know Lallana can play out wide, but he's best utilised drifting in the middle.

Either way, an interesting summer is ahead of us.

JFT 96

JP

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lallana has prem experience though mate and that tips it for me. Only just though I would be happy with either.
I think the fact he can play wide or Central is key as well, we need a player or players in both those positions. You could rotate Lallana and sterling depending on fitness and form.

Agree0 Disagree0

Take them both, simple

Agree0 Disagree0

Good point, Mikey. Always a risk importing a player from another league. As you said, either would be fantastic. Both would be even better. The fact that Kono can also play centrally behind a striker swings it for me though, they're both adept at playing across the board, I think I'd just like to see someone who's main attribute is to damage teams by running behind the defenders from out wide, I think it'll make a huge amount of difference to the way we can set up against the stubborn teams. Let's hope Kolomoyskyi doesn't have time on his side this time to deflect a move (if indeed we're still interested).

JFT 96

JP

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he does have time on his hands JP. Due to political reasons he may be playing in the Russian league soon. Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree JP.

Suarez, Sturridge and Konoplyanka linng up for the 'pool would be just too tasty.

With Coutinho, Sterling, Suso and Borini offering a range of other options we'd have some good quality to face the season.

Admittedly, no player is a sure thing, but Kono has great quality, I'd be very excited to see him sign.

As for Lallana. He is the player that Joe Cole could have been if he applied himself, but imo he's still nowhere in the same class as Kono.

I trust BR though. I have faith that he'll have learned a lot from last summer's transfers and hope he signs another good player like Sturridge (inspired) Sakho (potentially brilliant) or Coutinho (well-spotted on his availability). Allen and Mignolet still have lots of potential too and Borini, (now that he's fit again) could yet show his quality in a side that is a step-up from Sunderland.

Trolls will point at Aspas and Assaidi and the Moses Loan, but overall, they didn't cost too much in todays' terms, and we could recoup a fair bit for both players (maybe even net a profit on Assaidi?).

BR has done pretty well in the transfer market imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 11:59:57
Plus, I know people say we haven't used aspas/Moses much, but that's because they haven't quite made the grade, you can still have decent players on the bench, doesn't mean they'll be sub every week!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I 100% agree. Rodgers has been forced to use about 13/14 players for 40+ games this season due to Aspas, Moses and Alberto not being up to the required standard to replace people without compromising quality. I was one of those defending the signing of all 3 of these players as they looked like good signings. However they have flopped and forced Rodgers into burning out the rest of the squad.

Chelsea have the likes of Lampard, Willian, Eto'o and Ramires on the bench some weeks. If you want to be part of a title challenging team, you have to accept that you might not play every week. Doesn't mean you'll be a sub every week, just means you've got to up your game and take your chances when they come.

We lack the depth required to compete with CL footbal. Its not just a case of 6 more games before Christmas. We need to start getting further in the domestic cups too. Playing 3 games a week isn't as simple as just rotation. It increases the chances of injuries further increasing the need for a bigger squad.

You simply cannot go into a season with a starting XI and a few back ups. It's not the 1970's anymore. We cannot rely on playing kids out of position just so we don't get anyone complaining. If we sign Kono and Lallana, then Suso and Borini moan, fine. We'll sell them next summer and replace them with a couple more youngsters, maybe even from the academy, who want to fight for their position rather than expect to be catered to.

When we tried to sell Hendo he refused. He wanted to stay and fight. Flanagan could've asked for a loan or transfer, but instead he chose to stay and fight. Sterling could've gone on loan, but again he stayed and fought for his position, wrestling it from Downing and forcing him out of the club.

There is no room for sentiments in football. Good players have 2 choices.
A) Play for midtable teams and retire with a Carling cup runners up medal as your only silverware.
B) Be a squad player for a title contending side, playing with world class players.

We've always had a squad where the gulf in class between our best XI and our back ups was far too large. That needs to change. When Willian gets injured, Chlesea put in Salah. When Ramires gets injured, they pur in Mikel. You simply have to have those sorts of good players waiting in the shadows for a chance to play and stake their claim on the starting role. Rosicky at Arsenal only plays when someone is injured. He'd walk into 16/20 premier league teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is Rodgers who you need to get out then as he pissed all of the money up the wall on players who are not "up to the required standard" as you say.}

When you don't have much money available and you need to fill multiple positions, you have to take risks. Aspas, Moses and Alberto were calculated risks who for whatever reason, failed. that's as much their fault as it is Rodgers fault. Moses puts in no effort on the pitch and Alberto and Aspas failed to adapt to the English game quick enough. Alberto has time on his side, Aspas does not.

I fail to see how 100% of the blame can be attributed to Rodgers. Those 3 players between them scored 37 goals and claimed 30 assists last season for their respective teams. On paper they looked like great signings. Besides Rodgers still squeezed a few good performances out of them and bled the rest of the squad dry for their talents. His job is to help us finish as high as possible. He did that regardless of whether his signings were hit and miss or not.

We now find oursleves in the position where we have a core of players good enough going forward, with a lot of excellent youngsters to help out. Its a simple case of buying 2/3 defensive players and 2/3 midfielders/attackers. that's 4-6 signings and you are shooting me down as if I have suggested signing an entire new starting XI. Rodgers has even said that is what we are looking at.

I don't care if its Lallana, Parejo, Hughes etc. We are clearly after a midfielder.

I don't care if its Konoplyanka, Tello, Lacazette. We are clearly after another forward player.

If you want to question where that leaves Suso, ask Rodgers, not me. I can't see why this will affect Suso that much when he will still be very much part of the squad and will be given opportunities to stake his claim on a starting role in Cups, rotation and sub appearances.

He is 20 years old and will improve by fighting for his place. If he doesn't want to fight, I don't want him anyway. We cannot compromise our ability to compete on all fronts to appease players with poor attitudes.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Making up these feeble excuses for the likes of Assaidi, Ilori, Moses, Cissokho, Aspas due to money is pretty poor when the answer clearly is that Rodgers needs help in the transfer side of things which he now has.}

Then why are you snapping at me for wanting one midfielder and one forward?
Also why suggest sacking Rodgers for pissing money up the wall when you've just admitted he's got help now?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Your the one telling how bad all of the Liverpool players are. This is no surprise and very common on the pages. I feel sorry for those players that have to read how little the so called Liverpool fans think of the players.}

Besides those players cost a grand total of £17m. Ilori may yet prove to be a great piece of Business and money will be recouped through the sales of Aspas and Assaidi. Even if it's only half of what these 5 together cost us.
You always complain Liverpool fans are too critical, so why am I having to defend the players and Rodgers from your criticism?
I have great respect for your knowledge on transfers and finances Ed, but you are really shooting me down here for wanting 2 players. that's not fair when there are persons on here every day asking for Rakitic, Lallana, Muriel and Griezman.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not being critical of the players - it was you who said they weren't good enough. I have told you who the club are looking to in terms of players, but you need to understand the reality of making players who are used to first team football at a high level third choice. And one of the reasons we don't discuss money is the confusion it causes folks like you - Aspas, Ilori, Cissokho, Moses, and Alberto cost Liverpool in Excess of £24M in transfer fees alone plus significant fees and wages.}

09 May 2014 13:46:15
Is that long well written post meant to say, Moses is a decent player and should be kept in the team next seaosn?
BTW, Ed02, How you get such awesome replies

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not going to argue with your financial knowledge but in modern football, £24m on 5 players is comparatively low, even still. I haven't said anywhere they are bad players. I genuinely expected Aspas to step up to Premier league football and be excellent for us. I was also a public supporter of Moses and Alberto when others were not. However they have failed to provide adequate competition. That doesn't mean I am calling them bad players. I'm sure they will go somewhere else and be big players. But they have clearly failed at Liverpool (you must agree with that as you've criticised Rodgers for signing them in this very thread) and will need to be replaced with players capable of taking our squad to the next level.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Two of those players were on loan. So £22M on three players. Your words were "Aspas, Moses and Alberto not being up to the required standard to replace people without compromising quality."

Rodgers has been very asive in the transfer market and even if Liverpool had made something better than a laughable bid for Salah Rodgers opened his mouth and ensured that there was no way the transfer would go ahead.}

Ed02, I suppose Andy Jacobs of is the shining light in fan behaviour or is slating forwards at Chelsea innate. Indeed, this is of course a £50mill striker I'm referring to here!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea why you think this is anything to do with Chelsea nor Andy Jacobs - and I have no idea what Jacobs has been saying.}

Suarez was signed by kenny, or in the kenny era, either way! Rodgers does seem to be in one good, one bad category though!
I think the main problem is, is that he bought players into a 7th place team, and ended up with a title challenging squad! If we were still battling for 4/5th I'm sure players like aspas, Moses, might have got game time more often. Also, this would suggest sterling wouldn't have shone so much, hendo, Allen etc playing so well, allowing players like the mentioned to come in for a spell! You simple can't drop the likes of hendo or sterling, when thye are playing so well, to give aspas a chance!

Agree0 Disagree0

For one Alberto hasn't flopped you have 5 centre backs Flanagan to cover both fullback positions all that is needed is a left back winger and centre midfielder to replace Gerrards standard of drive in midfield Henderson has that covered so more of a Modric Alonso type player loads of great cover for just need more first team quaility

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed EMS.

I trust BR. The arguments against his transfer record are rather spurious.

I have faith that he'll have learned a lot from last summer's transfers and I hope he signs more good players like Sturridge (inspired) Sakho (potentially brilliant) or Coutinho (well-spotted on his availability).

Allen and Mignolet have done well and still have lots of potential to improve, whilst Borini, (now that he's fit again) could yet show his quality in a side that is a step-up from Sunderland. Llori is another bright prospect who could yet prove a bargain, as is Alberto.

Trolls will point at Aspas and Assaidi and the Moses and Cissokho loans, but overall, they didn't cost too much in todays' terms, and we could recoup a fair bit for both players (maybe even net a profit on Assaidi?).

He is a very good player, but I feel a lot of fans are getting a bit carried away! He has good movement isn't lightening quick, but that's his game! He is comfortable in possession, makes space and can pick a pass! His finishing could probably do with some work, although he doesn't make chance after chance for himself, more of a creator. His work rate is good too. Crafty is probably how I would describe him! My best mate is a soton fan and dreading he leaves, I doubt he will will be a lfc player next season, but hope he is!

With Suarez likely to be linked to a number of clubs this summer I wonder how possible a move for him is, firstly how many clubs could realistically afford the fee, Real, PSG, Monaco, City, Chelsea and maybe Juve if they get a fortune in sales. Out of those teams only Real and PSG seem likely and with PSG soon to be under the same spotlight as City I doubt they'd spend £70m-£90m on one player, so that leaves Real. A club i'm sure Luis would love to play for, I wouldn't blame him but Real have a long shopping list of strikers they've been linked with, Aguero, Cavani, Falcao to name a few.

Now as for in comings i'm sure everyone would agree Lallana is a fantastic player and while I would love him to sign for Liverpool is he really what the team needs? His arrival would come at the cost of either Coutinho or Suso a very tough call to make, especially while there is a glaring need for a quality left back and not Luke Shaw! A wide forward will probably be on the shopping list as well and a name that divides opinion is Ben Arfa, hell I keep changing my mind on him. There is no doubting he is a very talented footballer but the lads application is terrible, very similar to Glen Johnson, all the talent needed and more to play in their respective positions but no real desire to do so. Now Ben Arfa is 27/28 so I don't see him improving much but Rodgers has a knack for the best out of most players as long as they actually want to improve, if it were up to me i'd look elsewhere for a winger but we'll see what the summer brings, no doubt it will be hectic and a pain in the backside for the ed's but I for one appreciate the tireless hard work they do.

How many do you think will leave in one transfer window and who do you think are the most likely to go?

Mighty Reds.

If your name suggest Our Club should prosper on and off the pitch, Then Johnson should never get a new contract.
Our Club has been excellent this season, thanks to everyone apart from Johnson.
I was banned from this site twice, Courtsey of Johnson, But look the way things have progressed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson as given this club great service and deserves more respect.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Mighty Reds.

Doubt a new contract for Skrtel, didn't he sign one just last year?

As for Johnson. I haven't seen a player with less fight since David N'Gog. He should be ashamed of himself. One of the laziest, most cowardly and uncommitted players I have ever seen don the red shirt.

It is the fans who shell out big bucks to support LFC who deserve more respect.

Don't get me wrong, Johnson has ability, but his attitude stinks. The only thing he commits to is doing as little work as he can on the field, and avoiding the physical side of the game (and he has the upper-body of a heavyweight boxer, which makes it even more pathetic).

He is the one player who should be shown the door based on his total lack of effort.

Others may make mistakes at times eg. Flanno, Skrtel, Agger, Toure, Gerrard, Mignolet - but at least they try to make an effort.

Our other options there for next season are Wisdom, Kelly and Flanno. All who have done well there at times, but who for one reason or another have not established themselves at RB.

Looking forward to seeing what BR decides. Despite what he says to the media, I feel he is running out of patience with GJ too. I think his post match comments were aimed (not exclusively) in GJ's direction.

Agree0 Disagree0

Banned twice because of Johnson! Out of interest, did you say Johnson was perhaps a Chelsea fan?

Johnson does blow hot and cold but I think he has done well this season by his previous standards. He needs to score a little more often to keep the boo boys at bay - or defend better.

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps it is the last chance to get a decent fee for Skrtel, Agger and Johnson. I can only see Agger leaving. Johnson's options must be very limited.

Enrique, I am sure will remain with LFC for another year.

Good day everyone. I have a little question.

Has any of you watched Marcos Rojo play and how would you describe him? I have never seen him play to be honest.

PS, I don't want or need descriptions from fifa 13 or Football manager, I really want some honest opinions of someone who has actually seen him play in real life. Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Seen him play once. He's big for a left back. Didn't really watch him that closely though as we had no interest and I was looking at a different player! From what I remember he was very solid and composed.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's very positive, a good crosser and seems to have that tough South American temperament. Reminds me a bit of Gabriel Heinze to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually, he reminds me of Kolarov. He is quite big for a LB, and of course plays CB for Sporting Lisbon.

He does dive in a bit and backs himself to win the challenge, but does get caught out a couple of times. He is an aggressive player, a trait BR likes in his players I think.

Hi Eds

I was surprised that, after Jan Vertonghen stated a few weeks back that he wanted Champions League football, there has not been more reported interest in the player. Do you know of any clubs who have looked at Vertonghen? Naturally, Spurs would not be keen to sell to a rival club but for me, he would be the ideal solution to our lack of leadership in the back line- can you see us going for him?

Cheers

{Ed002's Note - You need the Spurs page for this.}

I think he is massively over-rated. We don't need no CB. We need to get rid of some defenders.

Skrtel is a good defender, but he is far from our best defender and can't play with Johnson at all. one of them should go. I think if we have a back-line of
Flanagan-Toure-Sakho-Johnson it will work like a charm.

No Harry, he didn't

I think Skrtel is over-rated too.
We have Sakho and Agger for LCB positions, why do we need vertongen?

I know many don't really know but in Sakho we seriously have one of the worlds best CB and he will start showing it soon. I think in mostly 2 years time He and Kompany will be the CB pairing for team of the season every season! He speaks very little English and communication is vitale in defense.

I don't really know why it's so difficult, Toure is faster and Stronger than Skrtel, speaks French, is a leader and if you watch the games he played as a

RCB he was very very good in all of them. Once both Agger and Sakho were injured at the same time he played LCB which he is uncomfortable with. Still he obviously helped Skrtel as we didn't concede against Everton and Arsenal (Gerrard gave away a silly pen)

For me it's a no brainer to try the Toure-Sakho partnership, Skrtel & Agger has built an understanding over the years. If Toure plays Johnson will also appear much better because Toure doesn't back off like Skrtel and is quicker so the defensive line will be higher up which will compress spaces and help us press and choke teams better etc.

That way we don't have to sell anyone.

Johnson-Toure-Sakho-Enrique
Flanagan-Skrtel-Agger-New LB

I believe those subtle changes will have a huge difference on our over all balance and organisation.

Toure is dead slow, Slower than Agger and Cissokho, Yes he is vocal and looks like a top defender, But he Isnt, We have had some awful games with Toure in the defence, For me he is back up and cup games Defender.
llori with sakho, Either skertel or Agger is moving out.

Harry have you watched Toure? I think he's probably our second quickest centre back behind Ilori.

Jeezzz. I am sure, You don't come here quiet often, Toure's own goal was a record hit here, He quickest? I think you are talking abou the other Toure. He is slow, very slow, look back his previous games, We benched him, because he was very very poor.

{Ed001's Note - Kolo is far from slow.}

Why not no one thought carra would be that instrumental in his final season after not playing has much as he would have liked to begin with.

I think Jan Vertonghen is an excellent CB. IMO, he is exactly the kind of CB who would do well in our system as he likes one one defending and usually comes out on top.

He is probably going to Zenit or Napoli.

Good morning Eds

Can you give your thoughts please, if we are interested in Lallana is he seen as the wide man we have been looking for in the same ilk as Konop and Tello? Or is he more of a central option, or eveb both? If we do get him do you suspect we will still push for an out and out winger?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really have no knowledge of how Rodgers would look to utilise Lallana. Additionally I have zero interest in formations and the like.}

09 May 2014 09:10:52
Lallana is wasted out wide or too far forward. You want him creating behind the forwards and picking the ball up from deep to drive us forward. Konoplyanka on the other hand can play across a front 3 (yes, even as a striker) and is the sort of player you want to try and play in behind the defence. Kono would likely be a squad option to compete with SSS. Lallana is far more likely to push the likes of Coutinho, Hendo and Allen for a starting role. If we signed both it'd be good business so long as Kono can make the step up to a much stronger league.

I would expect Lallana to play as part of a midfield trio (Gerrard, Hendo, Lallana) with Kono fighting to break into the front 3, or providing an option from the bench/in cup competitions.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So would you sell Coutinho or keep him? And what about Suso, I assume he would certainly be gone then? Folks need to remember that the club cannot keep adding players without moving some on.}

09 May 2014 09:43:42
Ed there is a lot more football to play next season we are going to need a bigger squad and players that can come in and do a job no passengers so the need to move players on contradicts what everyone including yourself have been saying r squad lacks depth and quality from the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Initially there are 6 more games - that is it. The squad is restricted in size and you cannot simply add players without making space unless they are under 21.}

Its a squad game Ed. You need at least two players for each position. Signing Lallana and Konoplyanka will not exactly flood the team with players when Moses and Aspas look certain departures. At least one of Suso, Teixeira and Alberto will go out on loan. So in real terms the squad would only be increased by about one player.
Gerrard would compete with Lucas for a holding role.
Hendo, Allen, Lallana and Suso would compete for the 2 sides of the Diamond.
Sterling and Coutinho would compete for the tip of the diamond.
Leaving Suarez, Sturridge, Borini and Kono to fight for the other two forward roles.
Youngsters would fill in for injuries.

Even if its not Lallana and Kono, Tello and Parejo, Rakitic and Lacazette etc it'll likely be two similar players and it'll still be the same sized squad. I get that a lot of people are asking for the moon but to ask for 2 signings for 6 positions is hardly going to over flood our squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - How many games have Moses and Aspas managed this season. If you think that Konoplyanka and Lallana would accept getting a few appearances from the bench no doubt it will be fine. If Rodgers is then going to change formation and play folks out of position I am sure it will also be fine. Don't be surprised to see some pissed off players - the losers here are the likes of Suso and the other youngsters.}

09 May 2014 10:05:24
I would happily buy Llalana over konoplayank and play him in the front three pushing sterling for the place. Suso would push Countinho in the middle for a starting berth. Lucas to cover Gerrard, and another top class CM to push Hendo and Allen.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we were to sign lallana I would put suso out on loan next season to a PL side

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with EMS. We cannot expect the players playing in the diamond or the front 3 to perform to the level they have done this year. To expect the trio of Gerrard, Hendo & Coutinho and SSS to play at the same level for the entire season next season is asking a lot and a huge assumption.

Signing Lallana and Kono would be excellent business IMO. Just look at the options Chelsea have in that area, we need the same level of depth. The last few weeks has highlighted the need for the same quality of player when changes are required.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 10:34:20
I'm sure if Brendan needs to trim the squad there is lesser players than suso can be moved out and if we come 3rd were going to be put into that Europa league which as far as I know is a route into the cl so you will need good quality players imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry, Lallana will not fit into our front 3. Southampton play slightly differently to us. They attack with much less pace due to Lallana, Lambert and Rodriguez not being blessed with it. He is however an excellent playmaker and would be utilised in midfield for us.

If he played in our front 3 it'd simply slow our attacks down and make us less effective on the counter attack. He is also not the sort to run in behind, but rather the sort to look for runners in behind.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not really convinced we need both Kono and Lallana. It would be a slap in the face to Suso and Texeira who can both play out wide. We need 6 players for the front 3 positions. We already have Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Borini, Suso and Texeira (who will probably go out on loan). So we need a LWM to make up the 6 players. We also have Ibe to play in the domestic cups.
In midfield, Lucas and Gerrard will fight it out for the CDM role. Coutinho and Allen will compete to play as the CAM, while Hendo and the the new midfield player ed says we are looking to sign (possibly Parejo) competing for the CM position. that's effectively 12 senior players for 6 positions which imo is more than enough to give everyone a decent amount of game time. We also have Ibe and Yesil who can come in as impact subs. So one of Lallana or Kono would be ideal, not both.

Great pearls of wisdom there Ed02, let's just look to build a squad in expectation of not progressing in CL. As for players coming in to warm the bench, I think even with your limited interest in the sport you know better!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The trouble is that the club needs to spend wisely and not spend like Rodgers did last season with very significant amounts on players who have not really played at all. There should be youngsters who can take on the Aspas, Ilori, Alberto roles of very occasional cameos. Liverpool has a good reputation for bringing youngsters through but sadly the many of the fans live beyond realism and want the club to sell most of the players that has taken the side to the upper end of the league and replace them with players with long and exotic sounding names that no one seems to have the ability to spell. I am just waiting for someone to say it will have to be another yea of transition. The likes of Suso will be expecting significant game time, not a few appearances from the bench. Obviously you have twisted my words, but that can be expected.

09 May 2014 11:00:16
Ed02, are you suggesting we sell Suso, Borini, Aspas and Moses and just go with what we have already got? City have 4 strikers competing for what is sometimes only one position with all costing roughly £30m.

I don't want Liverpool to end up as ridiculous as that but there is nothing wrong with having 2 players for every position.

Aspas and Moses didn't play much because they simply weren't good enough. Alberto wasn't either but he is young enough to improve hence why he will likely only be loaned out. I'm not sure who you think I'm suggesting gets played out of position. You may be thinking of our formation as being rigid with no scope for tactical change. 12 players for 6 positions with 8 of them being 24 or younger is hardly over stocking. 5 of them are under 21!

If they don't want to stick around and fight for their place, good riddance. Players like that don't deserve to play at the top of the game.

Look at Hendo, Flanno and Sterling. All of them have ran through barbed wire then crawling across a mile of salt to be part of our team. If Suso, Borini or any potential new signings won't do the same, I quite frankly don't want them here.

You are very knowledgeable about all kinds of aspects of football Ed, but you are wrong on this one I assure you. You cannot compete in the CL and the league without 22 quality players. Chelsea, City and Arsenal all have 2 or more players for every position. Liverpool need the same. Its not as simple as "this is the first team, and this is the second team" its a squad game.

I don't agree with fans who want 3 players for each position. That will just cause upset players and completely block youngsters from breaking through. But 2 options with players from the academy covering in the case of injuries/suspensions is absolutely fine in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I didn't say anything like this and certainly did not say that two players were needed for every position. I suspect the club would struggle to sell Moses.}

09 May 2014 11:17:12
It's really simple. We need greater depth to compete with other big clubs. It's about a squad not a starting XI. Lallana would cover upto 3 positions really well. In squad terms he'd replace Alberto who will go on loan probably. Konoplyanka would replace Moses and Assaidi who plays in the same position will be sold. Suso would be behind Sterling who has no cover on the right at all. Don't see how the squad is being overloaded. At the moment our attacking cover is Moses, Alberto & Aspas. If Rodgers was happy with them they'd all have played more.

Suso, Borini & Konoplyanka a much better three to support Suarez, Sturridge & Sterling. In midfield Ed02 has already said we are looking to add one of two players. Lallana would be a better fit on the left of a midfield two in front of Gerrard than any of Lucas, Allen or Coutinho. They're all different players so Rodgers would have more options which is surely what we want?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats been our problem for years Indian Buzzer. Going into a season thinking its okay to have too many players in one position because sone of them "can" play in other roles. Suso and Teixeira are not players you want in a front 3. They are neither strikers nor wingers. They are playmakers/midfielders and to play them out of position out wide in an advanced position is a massive waste of their talent.

Lets just sign an actual winger and stop shoe horning kids into positions they don't suit. Suso made 20 appearances as a wide forward for us and got 0 goals and 0 assists. Almeria play him in a deeper midfield role, were he has the freedom to come inside more centrally and get involved and he has 3 goals and 9 assists. Why bring him back here and then dump him in a forward role again?

Agree0 Disagree0

If we get lallana, I reckon suso will leave, Permanently or on loan. This doesn't affect coutinho as he can rotate in the creative midfield role and wide if necessary!

See now that's a good insight. I agree that players such as Suso and Borini should come back into the fold and play more often. Spending wisely is the way forward and I'm not saying we should go buy a Lamborghini. I'm not going to reel off who I'd buy and sell because frankly I'm not a backseat driver, but if I could write a dear BR letter it would definitely start with KonoplYesplease! Thanks for your straight reply Ed02, if I twisted your words it's only because karma made me

fans on here saying we are back in the top 4, I think that's wrong we are in the top 3 with an chance of finishing in the top 2 or the outside chance of winning it, so come on fans get top 4 mind set out of your heads and say what it is, if we strive to be in the top 3 which means automatic champs league group stages then our mind set will be better plus its a better target to aim for, please football gods don't let BR give glen johnson a new contract, the man should be ashamed of himself for the palce game, and give this weeks wages to charity because he was that bad for me the man is finished, he will not get any better and he won't be any mpre consistant than he has been this season, it happens to all players who come to the end of their footballing days,

lets just hope we get a defensive leader and a def-mid who is a monster of a player and a quick tip for the team the defensive players should not croass the half way line then we won't be hit on counter attacks, and will have enough back to defend against teams trying to run through our midfield and defence we won't concede many goals that way

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have to step back and take a realistic look at what our expectations were.
The season before last we finished 8th on the same points as Fulham and West Brom.
Last season we were on 61 points and behind Everton and Spurs.
This season we have improved to the extent that we are disappointed with not winning the holy grail.
If we continue improving (which no doubt we will) there is no reason we cannot be up there next year. The players and the manager will learn from this season and we will make at least 2 or 3 quality additions. We will also be much stronger off the bench if a game needs a player to come on and make an impact.
Chelsea aside, we have shown we can take apart any defence in the PL and I am very optimistic that we can mount a serious challenge from the start of next season right up to the end.
