I really hope we sign Clichy, and not Enrique. I also think we need a good young keeper to be an understudy too Reina. My preference would be Thibaut Courtois, a highly rated 18 year old Belgiun keeper who plays for Genk. He is over 6 ft 4 and is a very talented young keeper. Genk have a link with LFC, giving us first option to sign any of their players. would be available for as little as 1 million pounds, a bargain IMO. I don't think we need too many players, as the young players are doing really well when called upon. I would like to see Sahko N'zogbia, M'villa, Moussa Sissoko and Ashley Young plus Clichy come in (and no im not french). this added quality, with the promotion of a few more youth players such as Morgan, Coady and Sterling, and the exit of alot of the average fringe players will make us an even more threatening force.

It's all been said tonight by fellow reds, just brilliant, the blueprint is there to the gr8 sides of the 70/ 80s.
Suarez is our new talisman, he steals the show & he will be the star of the EPL next season. However he are playing as a team with agger, Kelly, stevie & Carroll all to return.
But I want to say how some of our players must b given credit & have proven us wrong. Credit due to skrtel, Lucas, kuyt, maxi & spearing, they all deserve to stay, wear the shirt & be part of an exciting era, well done lads.
Ps. We don't need massive recruitment in the summer, maybe 3 remember kk brought in barnes, beardsley & Aldridge so trust him. It dunt need 2 b neymar or any other fancy dan.

Not only was it a great performance tonight. But over the past few months the football we are playing is very enjoyable to watch. We could have scored 7 or 8 tonight imo but 5 will do.
I'm absolutely delighted that Suarez chose to play for us. This guy is one of the best players on the planet and will become an LFC legend, if he continues to do what he his doing. I can't think of a better player in the PL at the momment, i really can't. Considering he''s only been here since January. Not only has Luis got all the tricks he gives us 100% every game and works hard.

Evening guys, really good result tonight to start with. In response to £100 million to spend, I think it is highly unlikely Liverpool will spend anywhere near that amount. I anticipate FSG are willing to spend what the club deem necessary. I have no more news on players however will post when I hear.

A great performance tonite by the lads but i'd just like to say i actually think we're playing better without gerrard, now before u all jump down my throat i'm not saying he's crap or he's finished i just feel our football is more free flowing as more players take responsibility rather than keep looking for gerrard all the time so if the players like lucas, raul, maxi etc can keep that confidence when gerrard comes back into the team and the free flowing football continues then great but if not i think kk has a massive decision to make, gerrard in or out ?

Yes, well that's what i've said but i just think some of the players particulary lucas go into the shell a bit with gerrard on the pitch, if they can keep it going then i can see us winning the league next season, the way we're playin is amazing and spearing, flanagan, robinson, shelvey and kelly have all been superb this season but here still kids i think we still need a lb, cb, lm, rm and cf and we'll walk it next season.
Gerard came out during the week and said Lucas been our best player this season. Lucas is maturing and he can connive to do so by learning his trade from one of the best Sg , no way 4 r 5 players going to settle straight into the 1st team fold. Only just getting going as a unit, prob 1 r 2 players signed with balance for the future. If I could have my pick at the minute be baines & Johnston with a few youngsters Cor d wings

When did the pods land and take the real Maxi - he's had his ups and downs but 7 in 3 is sci-fi territory for him. I suppose it just goes to show what a good man manager can do with an underperforming squad. Hard to believe we used to be a team that, without a couple of key players, couldn't buy a goal away from home.
I know what you mean, he was on my way out list but think he has just played himself into the squad next season, esp if he's willing to accept that he won't play every game for us. Kinda shows you how much we used to rely on one or two players but now you just don't know who's gonna start scoring the goals for us, I'm guessing Spearing ( who, to my shame, I wanted to see the back off in Jan, and now is pushing to keep Stevie out the team), or Lucas. It's just so refreshing to see a liverpool team hungry for goals from all parts and long may it continue.
Oh and by the way as for them winning the 19th, we won our biggest battle in Oct which I think will turn out to be one of the biggest victories in our history, their victory is nothing compared to ours this year. YWNA

I think we shouldn't go mad with the signings this season. I've forever taken the p*ss out of Chelsea and Man City fans for trying to buy the league and think we should make a few sound investments instead of going mad because we apparently now have money to burn. I don't think our owners are going to use our club as a play thing (same cannot be said for the 2 above) and are looking to invest in the club in a sensible/ productive manner.
We only need a few signings to compete and bring in the youngsters such as Robinson, Flannigan, Wilson, Shelvey, Spearing, Pacheco, Suso to cover for the cups and worst injury crisis.
I think that we should buy
LB - Baines
CB - Cahill
LM - Mata
RM - Afelley
Prob pay around 60 m for these with the wages of around 15m for the season
Get rid of Jovanovic, Poulsen, Konchesky, Aquilani, Insua, Soto, Degen, Ngog, Aurelio and a few others.
Prob get around 30 m for these guys and roughly save around the same as the wages of the new comers.
I don't think we should be trying to buy every young player on the market right now. We need a good 11 and a little depth bulked by the youngsters we have. Finish next season in the top 4 again and show that we can bring in the youngsters and develop them and more will want to come as we have shown that we are willing to give the young guns a chance.
It's the way forward!

Our owners are completely different from Chelsea and city, they won't buy players just for the sake to look powerful as they have. They will only buy to improve, look at the players city have bought to sit on bench, Kenny is we have the wisest owners managerial staff in our club.

I agree also, but Maxi and Lucas are also on the same wave as Suarez and it makes it very exciting to watch, more so than boring build up play by Arsenal that comes to nothing. Not sure if the likes of Young, Downing, Lennon and even Adam Johnson would be clever enough but I tell ya what, Juan Mata, Affellay and Arda Turan would be on the same wave as Suarez and co. Those 3 in my opinon are who we should bid for.

So has he done enough to earn a new contract and a reprieve from a possible exit and retain his place as a squad player? Kenny has bought the pass move pass move system back. players don't really have set positions and are interchanging with each other well up front. under benitez there was too much tactics which rather worked really well or really poorly. hodgson's formations and set-up were too structured and players seemed as if they were told to only stay and play in there own positions

Ed great site, I would love to see the likes of McCarthy, Johnson, Mata, Hazard, Prieto, M.Sissoko, Clichy sign up for Daglish's squad, these are quality young players who would give us the chance to be challenging and hopeful winning title next year.
However if Daglish is not manager and we are going to pay stupid money for the likes of I can't defend Enrique (9m+) I can't run Riise(8m) or Headless wingers young(20m+) or lennon(15m) or pot bellied Adam(8m+),

Ed, could you see g.johnson playing on the wing next season, as we now know kelly can do the buisness at RB? {Ed007's Note - Johnson has proved he is better on the wing than at RB from what I have seen this year, Gareth Bale started as a LB, so why not, Johnson could save forking out a transfer fee}
Glen Johnson is very important to our squad he can play either full back position and also further up the field. What's more his attitude has been excellent despite his changes in position throughout the season.

Afternoon chaps, I was reading through all the post with a lot saying how well king Kenny and the lads have done, especially the new boys Carroll and Suarez up front, and how next year when Kenny makes the team more his own with his summer acquisitions. Which made me think , when the king returned back to his Anfield throne how do you think this season would have panned out if El sulko had stayed and the investment went into other areas of the team? Don't get me wrong I think we are a lot better off now as a team and that 1 man does not make a team I just thought it would open an interesting topic of debate for people to express their opinions including possible targets and and replacements instead of pipe dreams of Aguero, Sanchez etc etc

I don't mind discussing transfer targets and the like as our club moves forward, but what is the point of speculating on what might have happened had Torres not left? We got quite a haul for him, bought two excellent young strikers with the money, and are a team very much on the up. I can't see anything that has transpired since January happening if Torres was still at our club. The reasons for this are well documented within previous posts, but to summarise, revolve around cash flows versus wage bills and also the 25 man first team squad limit. The departure of Charles Itandje late last year was the starting point for this reduction. Since then we have seen the likes of Andras Simon, Jordi Brouwer and Dean Bouzanis go their separate ways, along with higher profile people such as Babel and Torres. Of course, there will be new arrivals to replace many of those departures, so a good few more than those named in the post above will probably go in the next 16 months. I don't disagree with any of the names listed, but would also add to the potential departures the names of Steve Irwin, Alex Cooper, Gerardo Bruna, Michael Roberts as well as Fabio Aurelio, Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel. We should also reming ourselves of the recent speculation surrounding both Pepe Reina and Glen Johnson. Finally, I would also expect next season to be Jamie Carragher's last. I must stress that nothing is certain with any of these names and we may see some surprises when new contracts are being awarded and maybe a couple of shock exits too!

I just wanted to say, but I think a lot of credit should be given to Lucas, it took time for him to adapt, but he's proving to be a class act in DM. He could be world class within one maybe 2 years. Easily been our best and consistent performer this whole season. Editors and people would you agree with me? I would really appreciate to see your feedback, thankyou.
Complete agree. Easily been our best player this season. Give it til the end of next season or the one after and all the big clubs will be after him. But by then i think we will really be challenging for titles if not already have one in the bag.

I agree about Lucas. He has been very good for over a year and absolutely brilliant since January 2011. What annoys me that some people still phone radio phone ins and slag him off. He's an easy target for pundits like Mickey Quinn who doesn't really understand what is happening at Liverpool since Dalglish returned and FSG took over from the two muppets.
He's been our best player by a country mile this season! absolutely no need to replace him. He's more than likely 1 of the first 3 players in the teamsheet every week. He's been quality this season and can only get better.

Seems to be a lot of people suggesting left backs and central defenders. We're fine at the back with the current group we have, the 14 clean sheets so far haven't come by coincidence. Also, any new recruits would stop the progress of the young guys who have come in and shown they're good enough.
What we have is good enough. . .and we can even let Soto go:
RB: Johnson, Kelly, Flanagan
RCB: Carragher, Kelly (if needed), Ayala
LCB: Agger, Skrtel (can play otherside of defence too), Wilson
LB: Aurelio (when fit), Robinson, Johnson (can cover) . . and even Insua as another option.
I think our resources would be best used getting a quality central midfielder & three creative wingers/ attackers. We don't need masses of players, the squad is showing it's good enough and together under Kenny. We only need a few dashes of top quality in our attack.

Just had a look at Guillem Balagues website, According to him, it looks as though us and man city will be front runners for Juan Mata's signature. I don't really like Guillem, so I take what he says with a pinch of salt, but credit where credits due, he was right about torres. .
All that means is that A.Johnson is leaving. So either its good news for Liverpool. Especially with Silva already on their books.

The defence would be strong and with Carragher teaching Kelly, Kelly would become even better than Carragher in his prime. The two full-backs, Glen Johnson and Ansaldi, would be good going forward if we do decide to switch the wingers to the opposite side. The width would come Payet and Adam Johnson, obviously very fast and skill full. Gerrard would link the midfield and strike together, Lucas being the defensive cover. Upfront we have Suarez and Carroll.
Players in would be (don't know the costs):
Ansaldi: I know it isn't the best time to buy from the Russian league, but, he is a very very good left back. Great at defending and good at attacking.
Payet: Like everyone knows, right footed right winger who plays on the left. (better than Young) Occasionally plays on the left. Fast, strong and scores goals.
Adam Johnson: We've all seen him play for Man City, probably the most complete English winger in the Premier League. Strong, fast skillful, great dribbling and has an eye for goal.

Maybe Meireles could switch with Gerrard? That is probably the only place he can play at his best, centre attacking midlfield. If one of Carrol or Suarez become injured, we can switch the formation to a 4-3-2-1 with Gerrard and Meireles as the two attacking midfielders. He has also played Left and Right wing this season and has done a good job there, most memorably his cross to Carroll for Carroll's second goal against Man City. Its all good if we can rotate players in and out of the team, to keep them fresh. This might help if we have Europa League next season, playing on a Thursday and then again on Sunday or Monday.
No doubt Meireles is an awesome player when he plays as an attacking midfielder, but i just think he's a bit too "light wieght" for the Premier League. None the less, we're all supporters of Liverpool and we will cheer the team that exits on to the field.

Another good factor if KK gets the job full time is that he will install the bootroom factor back, which hasnt been there in years. Kenny will involve Gerrard and Carra as long as he is there so as to carry on the tradition, 2 possible managers. Also Steve Clarke has to be commended for the work he is doing.

Hey ed, i just don't get some people on here. . some are on about signing 4 wingers, you can only play 2 at a time and we have sterling ans toni silva coming through!
I think some people are dreaming too, on about buying 5 or 6 top class players that would be around 20-25 million each!I don't want to buy all these players and then be known as the next chelsea!

I am of the opinion that any player that is going to come to Liverpool has already made thier mind up about coming. We all start off with nil points next season, so if they want Champions League football they are gonna have to prove they are good enough to improve our side and get us qualified for the following season. I for one would not want a player at Liverpool who only wants champions league football, I want a player that wants to play for Liverpool and play Champions league football.

I was having a chat with a couple of fellow reds fans last night and we all came to the same conclusion, I think the shape and the way we play next year is going to change, we have seen evidence of this in the later part of the season, keeping the ball on the ground, neet triangles etc.
I think the choice of players coming in will greatly emphasize this new style of play, I think the likes of Nasri and Clichey for instance will be seriously looked at, we will be able to pick them up on the cheap, Sakho, M'villa, Mourvouax (spelling?) and now you see we are starting to have the entire French National team, why not add Benzima to this list?
I haven't got a problem with this as the next generation of French football is looking bloody good but I think we can deffo see a pattern emerging here, of course none of us will know for sure but I would bet my house that DC at his job interview said he could attract most of these players and our owners warmed to the idea.
I thought I would post last nights debate as maybe some of you guys would like to add anything further to the debate, I think it is quite interesting and has a great bearing on who leaves and who comes in, let me know what you think?

Those of you saying that we will sign Alonso because Sahin has signed for Madrid need re-think that hope. Sahin is a playmaker, a similar player to Zidane, Kaka and Joe Cole. He plays between the midfield and strikers. This therefore doesn't mean Alonso or Khedira will be replaced but more likely Kaka or one of their many attackers. I think its more likely that Liverpool would sign Kaka than Alonso, especially with Alonso only getting older and Spearing and Lucas starting to both get better in their defensive roles.

Many of these rumours are not only delusional but one would say also mainly pure lies. many of the players that have been suggested Liverpool will be signing including Aguero and Hazard will just not happen. i am good friends with John Hansen and played at patrick thistle with him in the 70s. i unfortunatly got injured the the 1973/ 74 season his younger brother alan stepped up to the first team in a game against hibernian which we went on to lose 2-1 but remained close to john. i have been around both john and alan recently and have asked about these players. i didn't get a no from alan but just a laugh. i went on to ask about more players including some young players like adam johnson and just got asked where this information was coming from so i shown him this website. he said that he had not heard personally of any of these players mentioned exept mville and ashley young. he also told me how talks for benzema had broken down last january and that enrique and adam had broken down this year as the fee was far to high to consider. im not sure really how this website works but i thought i may just tell you people what i have heard from a liverpool legend himself.

Can people stop talking about Sergio Aguero, its gone on far too long now. We practically have our strike force with Suarez and Carroll plus Kuyt as back-up, people need to concentrate on what the Club needs not what you want, maybe if we get Champions League football 2012/ 2013 season then we might see a new striker come in. . But until then I think what the club needs now are quality wingers for both sides of the field and a left-back, they're the main priorities. When Poulsen leaves he'll obviously be replaced by someone better. I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 players come in, 4 wingers and a left-back. Kenny likes players that can play various positions so who knows what will happen.

Hi Eds. What has been missing more than any player(s) at LFC is the real and genuine Liverpool Spirit. To be homest I would love to see 3/4 good quality players come in to the club, but this nonsense of buying big names for the sake of buying big names is so far removed from the real Liverpool Football Club that it is pathetic. Whoever Kenny brings in will be chosen for their quality first and then moulded into players worthy of LFC and proud to wear the jersey.
Then we will progress with Kenny at the helm and all the supporters full square behind him.

If rumours are true then our signing could look like;
cb - cahill/ jones/ sakho/ dann (it think this will be one of our last signings)
lb - enrique/ baines/ clichy (enrique looks the most likely, but i expect we really want baines, and clichy is an outside chance as he doesn't seem to want to sign a new contract with arsenal, and reports say arsenal are looking to sign enrique so clichy might come to us)
rm - young/ lennon (young is a well reported target and would be a good signing, lennon as had alot of reports lately about a falling out with his manager, so could sign but i have my doubts about it, possibly swap with cole)
cm - adam, sissoko, mccarthy, m'vila (there have been lots of reports about signing a centre mid, kenny seems to want british tallent such as adam and mccarthy, and DC seems to want to bring in a few french players, we will sign who ever as the most control over transfers)
lm - johnson, downing, mata, n'zogbia (the johnson reports have come from no where saying he wants to leave city as he doesn't like mancini, downing is a very good crosser of the ball and that would help carrol so can see why he is wanted, mata is a suprise target as we wouldn't be able to offer CL football but if he is willing to give that up for a season then would be a very good signing, n'zogbia is a player who splits opinions you either love him or hate him, he would be a good back up player i think)

I was in a local pub yesterday and a few lads were talking about Joey Barton.
I personally think he would be a good signing, he has a good understanding with Andy Carroll.

All this media speculation stating we will be signing X, Y and Z are all a load of crap, who seen Meireles coming or Carroll - None of the media did! Liverpool is back to the way it should be were everything is kept behind closed doors and no secrets are spilled, saying that however the Enrique deal seems to be the worst kept secret in the Premier League as it's pretty clear that has been done.
For me, our biggest signing this summer will be Kenny. As long as we have Kenny, I believe that we can only be going forwards back to where we should be, as it was shown the second half of this season - To turn it around from the relegation zone to challenging for a Europa League / Champions League place just shows the class of the guy and how much he means to Liverpool.

Sissoko is more of an attacking midfielder while M'Vila is a defensive midfielder, so you can really compare them. However, I'd prefer Sissoko because I think we need a long term replacement for Gerrard and Sissoko has been compared to Viera.

I am of the opinion that any player that is going to come to Liverpool has already made thier mind up about coming. We all start off with nil points next season, so if they want Champions League football they are gonna have to prove they are good enough to improve our side and get us qualified for the following season. I've seen people perhaps say that we need around 8 players this summer, I personally think we only NEED 3 top quality players, if they players chosen are good and versatile enough.
I know it's a long shot, but Gareth Bale would be the perfect signing, even at £40mil. He would provide width and yet has the ability to come inside if for example Suarez moved to the left. He can also play on the right, and people argue he is a future left back.
Another long shot, but Thomas Muller would be a brilliant 30mil signing. He can play on the right, or as an attacking midfielder/ striker. He is in a way very much like Kuyt, but has pace and is far more clinical. They both work hard for the team and have exceptional movement.
Lastly we need a good quality left back. To be completely honest, I can't think of anybody who is half-realistic. I have my drawbacks on Enrique's defensive positioning. Taiwo cannot defend. Jose Angel is too inexperienced. Clichy is not the best defender. I do think we will go for Enrique, but I'm not convinced.
I think Ayala will return and replace Kyrgiakos
Connor Coady can fight for that holding midfield role
Raheem Sterling will fight to be our 4th wide midfielder (Bale Muller Kuyt)
However I also think we will go for Gary Cahill (15mil) to add pace and strength to the back line. And James McCarthy (8mil) who I think is the best non-established talent in the premier league.

When you listened in the past abt alex sayiing Houllier and Benitiez were great managers, he knew at least when they were there that L/pool would never win the league. Now he can't rest/retire cause he knows that L/pool could win the league under Kenny, with mediocre players. So the day L/pool play Spurs, i think the annoucement of KK getting full time contract will be settled. This Aguero stuff really needs to be put to bed. This is no time for LFC to make a 'marquee' signing - the owners have already shown their intent with the purchase of Carroll and Suarez, so we already know they're behind the manager. As the Eds have said, it'd be ludicrous for us to offer the player what he's already earning at Atletico - he'd have to take a huge paycut.
We're in need of a few players in the Summer - one big signing will not be enough. We need a couple of widemen, a central midfielder, a leftback and a centreback. I'd much rather see us improve these positions than buy someone like Aguero (who - let's face it - may not actually succeed in the Premiership).
I'm also wary of the reports of Young signing. I can well believe that Man U may not actually attempt to sign him, but I'd be very surprised if it was as close to a 'done deal' as some are making out.
It's very close now, so we can all just sit back and see what happens. One player we definitely won't be signing is Nuri Sahin - he's signed a 6-year deal with Real Madrid.

Agueros father in law, the one and only Maradona, has said before that Agueros preferred destination is England with LIVERPOOL being his preferred club!. He has even stated he would take a pay cut to play for us! i don't know how long ago this was said but as far as i know we have been in contact and the deals got legs, its looking positive. I have heard this from the guy that posted the transfer report on the Anfield index site and from reading his tweets he seems a pretty reliable source. His transfer report is definitely the most believable out of the lot i have seen. But Hazard, sanchez definitely not going to happen but maybe Pastore! im very optimistic on Aguero and fairly optimistic on Pastore joining. Keep the faith people!

It'd be about 70-80M for Pastore and Aguero combined and I really can't see us spending that kind of money on two strikers. If we sign a striker, I'd expect it'd be someone young, who'd be content to spend some time on the bench.
I definitely agree that Hazard and Sanchez aren't going to happen - there'll be plenty of Champions League teams queuing for those two.
My choice would be Adam Johnson, Gary Cahill, Ashley Young and Leighton Baines - not sure how feasible any of these are, but I'd like to see them lining up for us next season.

If the owners were to go for a marque signing in the summer then maybe it would be between Aguero and Pastore? obviously we wouldn't put all our eggs in one basket so inquiring about both makes sense.
The other players you mentioned are on the report. No doubt Johnson, Young would be great for us but i would switch Cahill for Dawson, really like him!.
All we can probably guess is that FSG will not hesitate to spend on the right players to take the club forward, just look at how much they've spent on one baseball player in the past! :)

I guess it all depends on how much the players go for - half the time the amounts bandied about are usually plucked from mid-air, or inflated by the clubs and agents.
I just hope we get the players we're after. I've absolutely no doubts that - if Kenny gets the players that he wants - we'll do very well next season. I also think we may see some more of the younger players given a chance - I'd much rather see us promote another youngster like Kelly than spend 10M on someone.

Ken will not be coming to liverpool fc, he is 22 and he wants champions lge football. We may not even be able to give the player europa lge football yet. Yes i would love to see him but why would we spend massive money on a 3rd striker after £58 in january? I would also love Adam Johnson(kenny would make him a better player) and Micha Richards but city will not sell to us. Baines won't come over Stanley park either.
Personally i see our signings as Stewy Downing, James Mc Carthy, Phil Jones, Matt Jarvis, Jose Enrique and maybe get Gomez at a push to move over to Anfield. This would see us spending the best part of 60 million +.

A bit harsh for me to blame Moores entirely, I think he was badly advised and also hoodwinked by 2 American cowboys, but lets be honest they did say all the right things at first. Did the owners or Kenny actually say we would buy at least one "marquee" signing or is it just people assuming {Ed002's Note - Many fans believe that the owners are stupid enough to want to make a "statement" to other clubs and the fans by signing Neymar or whoever. Whilst the club will be making changes and whilst, I am sure, the owners will be very supportive, they will not be making any signings just to make a "statement".}

Do we really need Benzema? Isn't Andy Carroll good enough, I reckon a decent sub forward who isn't as well established but just as keen could do, someone like Shane Long, looks like a great prospect and could be perfect back up for Carroll and Suarez also he would be cheaper and easier to motivate! Benzema seems moody and will demand game time {Ed005's Note - I believe that Kenny wants a like for like replacement for Torres, which Carroll isn't. Doesn't mean he dislikes Carroll though.}
In addition to what Ed005 pointed out, it is about squad depth too mate, not just starting eleven - the squad needs first class quality in depth in key areas.
