arda turan has been atletico's best player of late, with us looking likely to get top 4 do you think intreset we had in him could materialize?

I think that ship has sailed.

Hi eds and reds!
Just a pretty random question regarding a player I find very interesting. Ganso. Will he ever move y´to europe, remember some rumours a couple of years back, bbut they never went anywhere. Is he good enough?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I cannot sensibly answer "Will he ever .." questions.}

Hi Eds

Will James Milner be leaving Man City in the summer?

Anyone here think he'd add to our team?

Cheers everyone

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I don't know.}

No. We should go back in for Kono if we are still considering wide players. He's on another level to Milner

Ed02 says we seem to have dropped interest in Konoplyanka.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Certainly two clubs are actively trying to get negotiations underway whilst Liverpool seem to be looking around to see what other options there are available. A couple of players to keep an eye on:

l'OM are more than happy to sell Andre Ayew and if anyone makes an acceptable offer to both the club and player then he will move on. Knee surgery blocked any chance of a January move but he is now back fit and in the team. The summer saw some interest from Newcastle, Inter Milan, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Dynamo Kyiv. Liverpool also enquired after a guideline price for the player over the summer. Right now there has been no firm interest in the player raised with Marseille, and it is likely that they will ask Milan, Newcastle and Liverpool if interest still remains. After that it will be down to his agent to see what potential suitors there are - probably in Italy. The player has suggested he would like to move on to a "better" side and cited Chelsea, Real Madrid or Barcelona as ideal destinations - he will be waiting a long time for that.

Viktor Fischer has been subject to recent interest from Milan, Manchester United, Manchester City, Roma and Werder Bremen. Ajax has negotiated a new contract with him but might let him leave as, when fit, he has not been performing at all well. There is a suggestion that Liverpool might be interested but it remains unconfirmed.}

No way he's rubbish.

The only thing he would add is more wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Mar 2014 14:03:53
A very interesting update Ed02. It seems like the parent clubs of Ayew and Fischer are happy to let the players go and that is particularly the reason you think LFC could be interested?

I cannot see LFC going for another bunch of potentially good players, who would need time to settle and show what they can do. Fischer is a good player but he is probably at a similar level to Luis Alberto. Ayew has shown no real improvement as a player, though he has been consistent.

I think LFC might be going for a higher profile of player, provided we make CL.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If Liverpool start to move for players simply because they are "high profile" it will all end in (very expensive) tears.}

Best to end this thread here. Higher profile is subjective ofcourse. I meant a player who has been performing a better level, random example Roberto Firmino or Antoine Grienzman (Yes I know there is no interest) as opposed to player player earning higher wages, playing at a higher club or at a club playing CL football currently.

I guess we have to wait and see where interest arise.

Apologies if the post was confusing.

Hi all, seen a few posts about well beck and wanted to throw a stat out there for anyone thinking its a good idea. Sturbridge has scored 28 goals in one year for us. Welbeck has managed 27 in his 6 year career

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The only people thinking Welbeck transferring to Liverpool would be a good idea are Manchester United fans

Banter please Eds,

Well the weekend could have gone better.
Chelsea win-7 pts clear.
Man utd win- boost in confidence.
Arsenal win- boost in confidence, no replay, no extra game.
Man city lose- less games, no reply, more league focus.
The misses returned " with the hairy mutt " - yes you read it right.
Sunshine- I have Phengophobia, " like some Arsenal fans "

C'est la vie

Still no need to Despair,, tonight "Prancing" on ice FINALLY comes to an end

Regards,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

At this stage I would not look at the others, especially while we're running the show! I don't even have time for the others, soaked up in LFC and all! Suggest you do the same.

I will suggest what I wish Harry,, And I suggest you have had a humour by-pass.

Regards,

So Arsenal win and it's bad for us, City lose and it's bad for us? So basically no matter what happened in those games it would be bad cause according to you:

Win = more confidence
Loss = less games to play, can focus on league

Way to be optimistic!

Chill lads, i'm pretty sure nick was being funny there!

Ed01 / Dagenham Gunner / YNWAdam, you seem like fair guys. So I would like to know how you rate Sterling in comparison to Walcott. If anybody else would like to answer then please be fair in your assessment. Thanx

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's hard to compare them as they are at different stages of their career IMHO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Slodge,

Good question mate.

The first thing that springs to mind is Sterling seems to have developed quicker than Walcott.

Theo joined us in 2006 and to be honest, has only really showed imense promise over the past 2 years.
Lightning pace, beats his man but very little end product, until recently.

Sterling, for me, seems to have developed a little quicker than Theo and looks more promising than what Theo was at the same age.

That said, I would not change Theo for any player (same position) in the world.

Agree0 Disagree0

Walcott is an effective player and a good finisher, but never really too exciting to watch. He only really has pace and a good finishing ability, and can deliver a decent ball. He never looks like he has much actual ability. I see much more in Sterling. Not only does he possess Walcott's pace, he also has more skill than him. He can cross well, has great vision, is very strong and brave, works hard, and puts in good tackles. Despite not being a natural finisher, he also seems to get a few goals. That is the only aspect of his game that I feel is below average, along with perhaps his long range shooting. If you took away Walcott's pace, he would be an average player, but I don't think this is true of Sterling. I thought he was burnt out last season, but he's proved me wrong. Great player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling has better control of the ball while running, than Walcott, who prefers knocking the ball and running. Walcott is certainly a better finisher. Sterling is a tad technical than Walcott, in terms of passing and link up, while Walcott is more direct. Walcott is this outlet for Arsenal, he's released with a ball and shoosh! he's off. That is what Arsenal were missing until Ox's return from injury. But that is not what Sterling does, its more of what Sturridge does for us, IMO. Both almost HATE crossing the ball, they prefer coming on inside. Currently, I would have Sterling in my team, because he's young, learning and growing into a really good player. He's bulked up a bit, not getting bullied by stronger players and most of all, putting a smile on my face! The next 3-4 years are crucial for him and I'm pretty confident he will turn out fantastic! My thoughts and my thoughts alone!

Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgot to add one of Sterling's pros, his defensive work rate! Just immense!

Agree0 Disagree0

DG got it spot on. At 19 Walcott was average, Sterling is far better. I think Wenger would happily do the swap, but he'd probably offer Walcott plus £1.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling is the better player in my opinion, and not for any player in the world dags?, he's a decent player but wouldn't go that far.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think they are very simular and agree
90% with what DG said, however I believe sterling has world class potential and is playing at an international level, whereas walcott is a good international level player, and although walcott is still relatively young I think raheem will be far more developed at the same age.
peace!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling looks better at 19 then Walcott did. But he could stop developing like Walcott seemed to for a while, or could be hampered by injuries, anything can happen.

But like DG, I wouldn't swap Walcott for anyone. I love him much to much, for all his imperfections, he is a future legend at Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Z,

Maybe Ronaldo, lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't fancy having Bale then Dags? ;0)

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah why not Phooey, lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling is more versatile having played Right wing, Left wing, Attacking midfield, Right back and second striker this season and done well where ever he has played. He is also better defensively and tactically but Walcott is better at what he does than Sterling, that is, as a winger.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think anyone could argue against the fact that Walcott is faster and, in terms of his dribbling ability and finishing, probably slightly ahead of Sterling. However, despite his tender years I think Sterlings reading of the game, his tactical awareness, his all round contribution to the team, his passing and vision as well as his tracking back an tackling are better than Walcotts already. He shows an intelligence that belies his years and, despite Walcott's many years as a starter in a top team (injuries permitting) he still looks as clueless as ever when it comes to seeing a pass or making the right cross. Without a doubt at this moment in time I would have Sterling over Walcott every day of the week.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Mar 2014 12:44:27
I did a review on Sterling not long ago. I'm sure it's still in the blogs section somewhere under the title 'The rise and stall of Raheem Sterling'.

I really rate Raheem. He is versatile, fast, skillful and has added goals and assists to his game. For me he still needs to work on his finishing in one on one situations and his aerial deliveries. He can drill good low crosses in or cut it back for people, but his crosses in to the heads seem wayward. When one on one he seems to panic and over think his decision and ends up pea rolling it at the keeper. Whereas when he races onto a ball and has little to no time his instinctive finishing is excellent. I think he will eventually become a bit better than Walcott.

That said, Theo is an excellent player and over the last 2 seasons has consistently finished with double figures in both the goals and asssits catergories (despite long periods injured). As long as Sterling does not suffer the same injury problems Walcott has faced, I would fancy Sterling to surpass him. As Dagenham gunner says, Sterling has developed a lot quicker and I think that might be down to Rodgers man management.

Hey Eds,

just wondering, I've seen Ed02 say how poor English performances in Europe in recent seasons has meant they will drop to third out of the top three countries who are allowed 4 CL places and are in danger of dropping lower and therefore only having 3 places. Which country/countries could possibly overtake us? Italy haven't been doing great, neither have France aside PSG and that's all I can see as having a small chance.

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It has not been suggested that England will drop to fourth or lower in the short-term, but there is a pretty significant points reduction coming for England for next season.}

Absolutely made up for Wigan, what a tackle by Boyce on Dzecko. Stuff of dreams lol

Where has all this Danny Welbeck talk appeared from? Surely we're ok upfront,, and why would we want him anyway? He runs about a lot with no real quality. Plus he's a born United fan and probably hates Liverpool can we stop talking about signing him when it's never going to happen (thank god) (fowler)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Add to that he's utter crap.

Agree0 Disagree0

Much rather give Jerome Sinclair an opportunity if he keeps developing. Welbeck isn't as bad as everybody makes out (particularly by quoting his stats) but it would be a bizarre move by the club to try and sign him - makes practically no sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 16:11:52
Just read an article saying utd will get rid of welbeck in the summer, don't slate me because he's a utd player but he reminds me a lot of sturridge at Chelsea, hardly plays but when given a chance impresses quite a bit and this year he's improved his finishing, utd won't sell to us I know but I'd have him in our team if it was a possibility.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Nothing like Sturridge, Sturridge is composed and had a wand of a left foot.

Welbeck is awful, why do you think they want to offload him? Just look at his stats playing for a top 4 team. Sorry but he's an Everton type player all day long.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he's ever really impressed me and I'm not even being bias there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing like Sturridge. Welbeck is just average.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 15:03:58
What are the chances of us battling United and Chelsea for the highly rated Spanish fullback Juan Bernat? He would fill our 'problem area' at left back, but I don't see us making a move for him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Very slim.}

09 Mar 2014 15:01:12
2 players I haven't seen mentioned are Clasie & Indi (feyenoord) - Rodgers uses a different type of DM now (Gerrard) and Lucas is a crock, do you think Clasie could come in and Lucas could leave as I see him as a more ideal replacement for Gerrard? I don't think Bender would come to sit on the bench plus would cost a LOT more money/wages!

Thanks in advance!

PDLFC

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No.}

"Lucas is a crock" - that's where you lost me.

Agree0 Disagree0

PDLFC mate.
their is no replacement for gerrard!
steven gerrard is a unique player who deserves legendary status at LFC.
The man is captain fantastic!
however we DO have a new midfield engine who goes by the name of jordan henderson!
Also I think lucas is a future captain!
just my 2 cents!

Bit of banter seeing as we have no match to talk about. what's been everyone's defining moments good or bad for us this season?.

For me the very first game and that Peno save last minute was vital for us because I don't think we would have won our next 4 games 1-0 and from that you could say out season could have collapsed before it started.

Bad for me was Howard Webb v arsenal because even though we should have won the match anyway I feel if we had got that Peno and went on to get through I feel we would have certainly got to Wembley and perhaps won the cup.

As I said all just a bit of fun and food for thought eds and reds get involved!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Worst moments were the awful refereeing that cost us against city and Chelsea. Best moment? The hammering of Everton.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not biased hence I still think our squad is probably 4th in quality after chelsea, city and arsenal. but, and its a big but if we'd had a peno from eto on suarez, chamberling on suarez and the sterling offside we would b closer to the top and still been in the f.a cup. small margins make a big difference. mingolet save first game was massive also

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is the same with Stoke, if they had won every game this season they would be top of the league. Will you do a calculation on how many penalties should have been given against Skrtel for pulling people back in the box?}

If we had more luck then yeah we would be higher, but like the Ed says it can go both ways. I believe we have our share of luck this year already. The table says we are currently the 2nd best team so far this year, and I am happy with that. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Luck evens its self out but the points I made above were stone wall for me? massive mistakes for me that I think will cost us 1st or 2nd spot. I can't remember any dicision as big as them 3 in another top of the league tir let alone 3?!?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Digging out that win vs Fulham. For me is the good defining moment.

The worst moment for me was the salah debacle. Once again highlighting the clubs ineptitude at transfer dealings. I don't mind when we don't get a player, but the way we bid so low, kept talking about how the deal wasn't over, etc really brought the club down a peg or 2 in the respect rankings for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 14:23:50
The more I see of Danny Ings the more I think we should make a move for him. he's definately an up and coming talent, he's English and he is scoring freely in the Championship.
In my opinion he would be well worth a punt as our 3rd/4th Striker or forward.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think if Burnley go up he will stay at Turf Moor.
Not sure he has the pace for us and he would have to spend a long time on the bench at Anfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 14:02:41
Just watched the Sheffield united vs charlton match, and one of the sheffield united center backs really stood out. I think his name is Harry Maguire, he's only just turned 21. He has a lot of pace and made a few powerful runs with the ball all the way to the opposition box. He seems like a perfect CB for us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Mar 2014 13:20:48
Eds was just wondering if you knew how Papadopulos has been getting this season after his injury problems?

We were heavily linked with him in the summer, but I don't know if he has overcome his injury problems. With his contract also now a year less would we be still interested this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he has only played 4 times this season mate, 3 of those he was brought on, so it is a bit early to judge him. Highly unlikely we would consider moving for him, we bought two centre backs last summer.}

09 Mar 2014 11:52:51
Going to be a long week. Anyone want to stick an early prediction in for the United game? Oh and think with your head and not your heart.
Going for a score draw myself 1-1
Although it could go either way, I honestly think we could win or lose this one 4-0 depending on what team keeps a cool head.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Head says a 1-0 scrappy win for either of the two sides probably through an early goal
heart says 5-0 to us

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it will be a 3-1 victory to Liverpool. If we win this game, I think we have a very good chance of winning the league!

Agree0 Disagree0

There's some massive contradictions in there lad.

Are you saying that it will be difficult to split the teams, yet potentially one team (either side) will be shabite and the other one excellent??

Makes you think.

Agree0 Disagree0

0 4 lads, you will have way to much for this united side.
We are probably the only team in the country, possibly Europe not score past them this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see us not winning the game. if we press high against Jones and smalling, Jones especially on the basis of yesterday, I think we will get some real joy and a good few goals

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers gunner62, hope that happens as well!

Agree0 Disagree0

Traditionally form goes out of the window for this one. Probably come down to who wants it more/luck/refereeing decisions on the day. I'll guess 2-1 To us. Sturridge brace

Agree0 Disagree0

Saying it could go either way and even be rediculous davey. I'm guessing 1-1. It's a bit like the arsenal and spurs games, u can try and guess but the nature of the occasion can mean it can all go a bit mental.

Agree0 Disagree0

0-2 we are a better team
simples!

Agree0 Disagree0

No redcards, we win 4-1 me thinks. I have a terrible feeling Webb will take center stage as usual though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think ref is clattenburg, can't decide wether this is a good or bad thing, at least it's not web, I also have a horrible feeling united will really raise their game and beat us 2-1.really hope I'm wrong

You know many on here keep bemoaning how we have not spent much over the past few windows.
Do you really need to when you uncover gems like Sturridge and Courtinho for, in footballing terms, next to nothing?
Would supporters really have like BR to buy a Mata (I am not saying we were in for him before anyone slates me) at £37 mill or a Sturridge for £12 mill?
As with any manager BR has has made mistakes in the transfer market. Aspas looks like he has the potential but not in the EPL.
But looking at the way some of our loan players are performing. Borini, Suso and Ilori etc. if these players continue there improvement and we hold onto our best players, Suarez, Henderson and the like, I don't see the need for the massive overhaul everyone on here is wanting.
We are going to need some players. Yes. Because of the extra games we look like we will have next season. But our first team looks healthy. We have players to come back from the treatment room, Sakho, Lucas Leiva, Enrique etc, this will free up players for other positions, Allan, Gerrard, Flanno.
Fans want a DM. I say we don't need one.
Lucas is immense. Gerrard can cover when he's injured or needs resting and Allan can also cover that position.
IMO 3 players will do it for the team next season.
A good strong LB.
Enrique is too injury prone. We need cover for this position as it looks like Aly Cissokho won't be signed.
We all know we have tried many times to get some one for the left of midfield.
There has been a constant switching of players for this birth and we will need cover when we get into Europe next season.
A back up striker. Even here I think Borini will be good enough when he returns next season.
These will be the 3 areas we will be looking to strengthen next season.
Add to the the players coming through the academy and LFC look very strong indeed.
Were doing it the right way.
Not throwing the £30-£50 mill on one player.
Spending £10-£15 mill and letting BR and the rest of the coaches bring out the best.
Its an exciting time to be a LFC supporter.
The future looks good. Long may it continue.

Y.N.W.A.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

TBH, we only need a LB and a versatile striker provided we bring back Suso, Wisdom, McLauglin and Borini from loan. Then dip into the Jan window to get whoever we need later.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't mind mata, I believe Rodgers would get the most out of him.
But yeah I would have Danny any day of the week.

Agree0 Disagree0

. agree with your sensible post vrcomp. I think football has lost its way with an over reliance on spending and a subsequent disregard for coaching. That said though someone like a Mhitrayen (spelling) would be amazing.
Jackzokay

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post vrcomp. What a lot of people fail to grasp as well is the fact that we don't have that sort of money to be chucking around anymore ayway. We just aren't a rich club anymore and the lack of CL over the past few years has compounded that. Players who go for big money are usually also on big wages, something the club is trying to reduce in order for us to become more fiancially sustainable which we are very slowly doing, whilst still competing for CL places. We are also still making significant losses and are still outside the FFPR.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see the point of spunking lots of money for no good reason, i'd rather spend sensibly on the right player.

Honestly looking around, does Javi Garcia look like £20m+ player at man city? Does Torres look worth £50m? Does Willian look worth £32m? Does Erik Lamela look a worth £30m? No, but how good was Sturridge at £12m? Or going back Hyypia for £2.5? The point is the club are working on sensible pricing, good scouting and good coaching rather than bankrupt the club or rely on a sugar daddy.

Agree0 Disagree0

hello eds,
missed the man u game and heard they played ok.
if you watched the game do you think they have improved at all or turned a corner as they say? should we be concerned at all for next week?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry. Try the MU page.}

They played better yesterday.
Looked even better when RVP was subbed and played without nerves when the 2nd went in.
There trouble is inconsistency.
I am not saying its going to be an easy match for us next week.
But for once we will be travelling to OT and we should have no fear.
Our away form can be hit and miss but if the team turn up on the day and BR gets his tactics right we should certainly give them a game and we should get something there.
For once we go there in fine form, on the back of a week and a half's rest and am really looking forward to us giving them a game.
It will be tight but 3 points are there for the taking.

You can bet it's going to be a mental one, both sides will be pumped up for this one. Nobody at United will want to lose this one in front of the home fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair, west brom whilst having a fair bit of possession did hardly anything with the ball. and they were also sloppy. no one was marking Rooney for his goal, van Persie should also have been sent off, west brom giving the ball away cheaply.

I think RVP will play and be sent off against us
