Hi Eds

Spurs are getting a bit ahead of themselves, they have had a good run of games recently but apart from Bale playing so well recently who else have they? They beat a very poor Inter Milan team midweek. I think we can come out of the game tomorrow with a win. Come on the Reds!

As a United fan I very much rate Dembele, Sandro, Vertonghen and Lloris (as well as Bale of course!). I also rate Caulker, Walker, Parker, Lennon, Holtby and Defoe as good squad players. I'd say they have a good, balanced squad which could be even better with a top striker and 1 or 2 other additions.

HBadger

Lennon, vertonghen and lloris have been great all season, but to be honest everyone has been playing well in the last 3 or 4 games (except adebayor). There is also a really good vibe in the squad and you can sense that all the players want to be playing for the team and the manager. Also I think you will find that the inter team was not that bad but we just made them look bad, they did win 5-0 on aggregate in the previous round,

A spurs fan

If they sign damiao and a topleft back they will be title contenders next year

Spurs have a strong first XI and a good squad - tomorrow/today will be very tough and I suspect a moment of magic from either Bale or Suarez might settle it. To the poster who says Inter aren't that bad: wake up and watch the Italian League, they've been poor this season and your result was completely unsurprising, Inter are poor this season - you didn't make them look poor they just are.

SMc

Spurs fans clearly are jumping ahead of themselves! Without bale, they are an average team. simple! What are spurs going to do when he goes to Real Madrid or goes off to train for the Olympic diving squad? On a serious note, Inter were very poor, and have been poor most of the season in serie A. They are nothing like the team that won the champions league a couple of season ago, and nothing like the force in Italian football like they used to be. However they still had a few chances to get an away goal despite playing rubbish.

Biggy Ballz

To the spurs fan on his/her high horse Inter were very poor against you and if they aren't that bad name me 3 world class players that were playing against you lot. However you do have a good squad but taking bale out the team would make you very average.

Was just reminiscing how awesome it would be to see Alonso run out at Anfield again alongside Lucas and Gerrard.

I'll stop now.

09 Mar 2013 22:05:42
i honestly don't believe either bale or suarez will win the game tomorrow

i d expect others possibly sturridge or defoe to have the final say

Anyone remember Sahin?

Oh no, I was just starting to forget that nightmare

09 Mar 2013 19:34:38
Tomorrow is a massive game for us reds on number of levels.
First of all, Spurs are good side and see how we compete against them. personally I think we will destroy them at Anfield tomorrow.

The last couple of games have been amayzing to watch and I think we need strong performance from now til the end of the season. reason being if we do this Suarez will definately stay on with us for another season.

Roll on Anfield tomorrow. Come on you red men

YNWA

Mikey LFC

You are forgetting that wigan missed 4 great chances last week aswell?

majestic69

Missed? You mean our goalkeeper played a blinder, how is that relevant to the performance of Wigan?

Quite agree Mikey.

In fact, this could be one of those "watershed" games that come along every now and again which can determine a side's future. Right now, our league form is starting to show something we haven't seen for a few years: consistency and momentum.

Tomorrow, the first goal is even more vital than normal because if Spurs get it, then it will be a big physiological ask for us to come back as we haven't done it in the PL this season and I'm sick of this stat that we haven't beat a top six side this term. That said, the last time we went behind (Zenit), we won 3-1.

If we win; then we continue the momentum which we haven't seen the likes of since we finished runners up in 2009. I'm still convinced that if we had beat Arsenal instead of drawing 4-4 during that run, then United would have bottled it and we'd have won the league such was our momentum.

Just imagine if we had, then we would have been discussing totally different scenarios since, so fine are the margins.

All I am saying is win tomorrow and the confidence grows. First, a Europa League spot is do-able and if it continues then, CL is not out of the question given the run of fixtures we have.

I've seen too many false dawns to get too carried away but it is totally up to the players now regardless of who BR picks because they are playing well and have got the crowd behind them, its all about the confidence and doing their jobs. Was so pleased to read today Brendan said let Spurs worry about us rather than taking special measures for Bale and his cohorts, that's more like the Liverpool way!

Finally, to majestic 69: you're quite right mate but that's what I mean by players doing their jobs. That was Reina's best game for over 3 years and more like the keeper we know he can be so let's stay positive and get as many points as we can and establish a springboard for a trophy assault next season.

Keep the faith!

Maverick

My guess 2-1 homewin tomorrow

Two good chances superbly saved

If we lose then CL is definitely over.

Tomorrow is a must win game.

Does anyone know if it's true the player if the season vote was cast last week? Bit daft if it was, there are still 11 games left. {Ed002's Note - It is done at this time of the year.}

Rumour has it that Bale is odd of favourite. because he has scores a measly 11 goals since December?

Suarez has consistently destroyed teams single handledly, if he doesn't get the player of the year award then it will be a complete farce!

I personally think a good move for us would be to sell Suarez in the summer and cash in. With the 30 million we get for him we could then bid for Rooney who we all know is unhappy at United.

Perhaps put Sturridge out on loan at the end of the season and bring in someone a bit more technically minded like Shane Long.

Gerard's well past it so time to take him of the wage bill and I think Sterling and Lucas need to be shipped out soon too.

This seems like common sense and good business to me and I've worked in football before for an awful long time

Haha someone actually disagreed with you

ed. what's the name of the original poster? {Ed002's Note - Can't you read it?}

I guess some of you missed the joke.

David Moores lmao.

I thought scousers were renowned for a good sense of humour? Nice try 'David Moores' I appreciated it!

Absolutely brilliant business etiquette. I would also buy Robbie Keane for 19 million as this would be an amazing summer.

Can anyone pleade help me here? Has Suarez won any award of late?

CHEERS

Yes, from the premier league for passing the 20 goal mark. Also won a few player of the month awards from Standard Chartered.

The Race for Golden Boot Award, for being the first player this season to reach the 20 girl mark.

20 girl mark, RedWisdom? Now I am jealous of Suarez!

Lol 20 girl mark!

09 Mar 2013 19:06:16
Thanks pals, hopefully he wins the player of the season and the golden boot award.

CHEERS

He won lfc 4 player of the months

He also won the award for getting to ten goals also

Eds how much Liverpool have earned from europa league. {Ed002's Note - I don't have the time to work it out now, but something between €3M and €4M I would think.}

Awesome. We could buy Konchesky for that.

Or michu!

Any news on the potential signing of Kyriakos Papadopoulos? He is 21 fits the fsg bill and is a powerhouse in defence. We should move for him

This season is worse than last season

Kenny got us to 2 cup finals and we won one and were robbed by the ref of another

How can be be so optimistic for next season

Nibble Bobbies Nuts

Oh my god are we still going on about this she*p. Why do you keep popping your head up every now and then it does my head in. Is it because your not a LFC supporter? we are playing much better football than we have for years and pushing for a top 4 finish ( don't think we will get it ) but you never know. Why not wait till the season has finished then come back.
YBWA jamesy

09 Mar 2013 17:41:34
Here are the two differences between this season and last season, imho.

1) Suarez is playing better and scoring more goals.

2) Since January, we have a genuine goal threat other than Suarez.

It's only two differences, but two differences that are starting to change the big problem we had last season - putting the ball in the net. That's why people are more optomistic. Also, we have 10 games left, and if we keep playing as well as we have in the last few weeks, we should win enough of them to have a better league finish than last year.

And I don't know what you mean by 'robbed of a second one by the ref'. If it's about Carroll's header in the FA Cup final, it didn't cross the line and he should've stayed in position to head in the rebound to make sure.

But hey, who am I to interrupt your logic. We're a worse team, sack Rodgers and start again for the 4th time in 3 years. That'll make us plenty of progress, amirite?

To the letter of the law it was not a goal. Kenny had half a season before last season so judge BR from x mass.

End of last season was bad. We are now looking better and stronger!

Short sighted!

We are playing better, I need new eyes?

I bow to all your superior knowledge!

But all I see is that we are still in 7th position and have reached no cup finals, if that's progress I can't wait for more!

Suarez is playing better well if he did not get himself into trouble maybe he would have played better sooner!

Nibble Bobbies Nuts

Am I an LFC fan?

Yes I am but I'm an honest one.

I don't see the emperor in new clothes when he is naked! (Apply it to our improvement).

Sorry for doing anyone's head in its never my intention.

Nibble Bobbies Nuts

Congratulations, you got a rise out of us. Now go away

Also Liverpool have a much younger and probably more prospective side than last year and will be higher in the table. The future is bright

Ghuman

10 Mar 2013 07:50:49
Hey Nimbles, you rememeber on 2nd half form last season we'd have been in the relegation zone right?

The cup finals masked certain inadequecies, we were shocking for half of last year!

Remember those 33 posts and crossbars we hit! We were not that bad!

We played some of the best fotball under Kenny admittedly it was sporodic but under Kenny we beat the top teams not so under BR

Of course we had certain problems under Kenny not least suarez getting banned for 8 matches, added to that a new team was being built and added to that we were still short of strength in deepth

How short the memories of some!

When looking back it should be done in perspective making the present much brighter than our recent past which brought silverware is foolhardy!

The young German Stephen Sama

Normally fans mimicking all our songs maddens me, But if Wigan doing it hurts Blues even more, so be it! Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch lol

09 Mar 2013 15:53:20
Haha ha ha ha What a Great Week to be a Red! Now let's pile it on Blues by drawing level in Leauge in our 'shocking'season!

A 'great' week for Liverpool? Wow your standards have dropped.

HB

HB I completely agree mate, beating Wigan only 4-0 was frankly embarrassing, not only that but Suarez managed just 1 hat-trick in that game, pathetic. Not only that, Wigan's win over Everton was a proud day in the Bluenose's history as they only conceded 3, that again counts against Liverpool. We haven't even won a European championship this week, sack all the staff and send the first team to the reserves if you ask me, disgraceful!

Alan Partridge

I see what you mean, now you've explained that you beat Wigan Athletic and Everton lost a game that really is a 'great' week. (Not by my standards but clearly by yours!)

HB

HB, you can only play what game is scheduled, how dare we not spontaneously organise a fixture against United every week and beat them, that would make every week great. let's have a bit of common sense please

And Manc defeat don't forget!

09 Mar 2013 15:39:37
Hi Ed002,
how would you assess the club`s financial situation at this time? thanks. {Ed002's Note - Improving. Everything I have previously said is still valid. The club has spent two years under new ownership losing £1M per week but this season will see the losses reduced somewhat. Next season with increased broadcast revenue the club will be better placed still.}

In the fair play rules, can debt be paid off by an owner if its not directly due to player wages or transfers? {Ed002's Note - Debt is not calculated like that.}

09 Mar 2013 15:26:43
COME ON THE RED'S. LET'S HAVE THAT BIG WIN I can't WAIT FOR SUPER SUNDAY AND KICK OFF TIME. 09 Mar 2013 15:11:34
General question here to all fans, what is with the whole "I want them to win because they are English" situation with clubs in the UCL? From my time in Italy and Germany, very few Serie A and Bundesliga fans think like this and one Italian fan summed it up quite well "the UCL was divided for the best team in Europe to win the cup, not the Italian team left in the completion. "
So why do we in England think like this eh? Hopefully someone could explain the patriotic intentions of "bringing the cup back to England"

I know no one how you describe. You must fall into the medias hype about it, no one I know wanted chelsea to win, or Manchester United or even us. {Ed002's Note -

To prove the Epl is the best league in the world. It's not that complicated!

Doesn't further progress in CL from English teams maintain that the top four in the prem qualify? I may be wrong, but English teams success in the tourney benefits us all in a way. It maintains or improves upon 4 teams being able to participate and not reducing that number with poor English teams' performances in CL.

FL RedFish

That is correct - if EPL clubs dip far enough in terms of UCL success then it could affect the 'coefficiant' to a degree where only 3 clubs would qualify each year from the EPL. Perhaps that changes things for the OP?

HB

Thanks HB, thought I heard that some time ago when the CL coefficient topic was being brought up.

Looked a bit further into it and want to correct my earlier response. We can not improve upon the 4 spots because that is the max allowed apparently.

Ahoy - quite simply I have never wanted any other English team to win in Europe and as they are not the team I support.

As a comparison I ask:

Would anyone on here honestly wish for the people they work alongside week in week out to receive a bonus or pay rise or promotion and not get one yourself - its the same as wanting MUFC or CFC to do well in Europe

BOILED ONIONS

09 Mar 2013 18:30:57
I wouldn't mind Arsenal winning or even City or Chelsea winning, provided they play well - Chelsea last year falls largely outside this category

I won't ever support United in the CL. Usually I don't support the English teams anyway.

If not Liverpool, I usually support an 'outsider' who play good football - this year I am supporting Borussia Dortmund because by the beard of Zeus they deserve it.

If the payrise/promotion/bonus was merited. Then yeah why not?

Ahoy - it might be merited but what if you had achieved the same 5 times already.

Then you've received your rewards/awards for it already! This really is simple stuff!

0-3. it's the bumduffer!

Fetch Moyes his angry trousers!

After that performance I think he will be needing his angry jumper as well!

Fair Play Wigan!

09 Mar 2013 14:35:35
Wigan look good, there's people leaving the ground after just 35 minutes at the "peoples club"

09 Mar 2013 14:34:39
I'm just watching the Everton vs Wigan game and have to say what a great all round performance by Wigan! Fair play to them! It's like watching a totally different team to the one we played and beat 4-0 last week! Never heard Everton fans constantly booing there team before like today, they must of under estimated Wigan! Oh well. that's the bitters having there end of season party tonight! Bet they will be on here after game saying. We got further than Liverpool! Lol! Yeah great achievement Everton! NOT! Well done Wigan.

Ive got a hot tip for the Lottery tonight.
Put some money on numbers 30, 31, 33
Roberto Martinez is adamant they are going to win.
Anyone got David Moyes number to give him this hot tip?

09 Mar 2013 13:30:46
Any chance of buying some of this wigan lot eds? What's going on with them?! Lol

09 Mar 2013 13:30:34
Ed2, you said a few days back that there are certain people who are trying push the owners out of the club. Who are you referring too? PJRED {Ed002's Note - A number of the fans and certain factions of supporters who have had their little gang infiltrated by both journalists and a number of neo-poiticos but still see themselves as the saviours of the club.}

09 Mar 2013 13:12:09
Don't expect lots of activity in the summer. BR is happy with 90% of the squad. Saurez & Riena will stay!

Outs - Spearing, Pacheco, Skrytel, Carra & Carroll (total £35m approx)

The money will be used to bring in a CB CM & FWD but don't be surprised to see Alonso & Torres return PL experience & both would come in price range!

Over & out

Torres wouldn't get into the qpr team.
so why would br want him back?
have you seen torres play scene 09.

Alonso is over the hill

United lads ran him ragged

Have you ever kicked a football person? Manchester United man marked alonso that numpt is a complement of the highest kind in football and especially by ferguson so shut up will ye about Alonso who is one of the best passers of a football in the world

^ But barca couldn't twice! you are a fool

No your the fool barca don't man mark players they don't worry about other teams players shows how much you no about football person

09 Mar 2013 12:21:46
Seems to be a lot of quality available in midfield this summer with Honda's contract running down, now the Alonso rumours too.
In addition to that PSG looking to offload Javier Pastore ( not sure how much he would cost ). There's also the Eriksen situation at Ajax, which means he'll be moving too.

Luca Biglia would also be available this summer too. Turan is set to leave Athletico and Sanchez is available for the right price too.

Would be happy with of two of any of the above. I know some are not attainable but some are.

No matter where we end up this year, if we buy well, I feel that next season will be full of optimism. I know every season we are optimistic but I feel that this may be a reality. Saying that let's stuff the spuds on Sunday.

Thompsons perm

09 Mar 2013 10:30:19
Hello, and a good day to our fine eds and others :) Do you think BR has played without classic wingers because he wants to, or because we have lacked options? And if the latter is the case, will he look to get more proper wide men in or versatile types like Coutinho and Honda?

Thanks.

It's because very few teams play with classic wingers and those few that do rarely do for a full game.

09 Mar 2013 10:16:59
Don't get people who think we can't beat spurs tomorrow?

1. what kind off attitude is that? If the players went out believing that we'd already be fighting a losing battle.

2. spurs don't have a better team in my opinion just more "mature" they can finish games. Arsenal 2-0 up like us yet they can hang on we can't. That's prob down to having such young players but what can you do.

3. We out play most clubs a lot of games we've lost such as west brom game let's be fair that game was stupid I was siting there like how the hell did we lose that?!

4. We've got a full strength squad near enough sturridge coutinho suarez and Gerard that is some creativity and goals right there

London red

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz just injoy the game

09 Mar 2013 11:42:19
We can most definitely beat spurs tomo, but it depends on which Liverpool turn up. If our passing is sloppy, our shooting careless and we don't hit them hard from kick off then we will struggle and they will quickly capitalise on that. Spurs are not better at football than us they are just more consistent, which means they will probably turn up tomo and play well. However if we turn up tomo and Anfield is at full volume spurs will have a difficult game on their hands.

They were very lucky against the gunners, arsenal had plenty of chances if we get the same chances I think we will do fine.

09 Mar 2013 10:14:18
I really hope we batter the spuds on sunday! That is all.

Id love to know why someone disliked this? Some strange people about :/

A bitter mate you can get him on 03 03 03

09 Mar 2013 09:08:18
So Sigurdsson is believing he has been proved correct in moving to the Spuds due to their recent 'success'. isn't it amazing how much short termism there is in football? I know he can stick his decision where the sun don't shine, but he speaks as though we actually give a damn. I'm sure BR had many a sleepless night due to Gylfi's rejection - NOT.
Do I sound bitter? No, I'm sweet as.

BaldyRed

Think you'll find he's only said that because its spurs v Liverpool this weekend and he was asked the question. It was very unlikely he was going to turn round and say "no, I should've joined Liverpool for more game time" was he now? I'm sure he meant no disrespect to Liverpool he was just answering a question!

He only would of ever been a stop gap anyway, good player but he's nowhere near the top :)

End of the day he said what he was supposed to. I have no doubts that when he found himself getting 15 minute cameos he regretted it.
derryred

I think if we just bought players with short names then the club would make more profit on shirt sales. We should have bought Ba.

09 Mar 2013 07:12:04
More rumours coming out about Xabi coming back. The rumour I've heard is its Nagore who is more interested in coming back as she has never settled in Madrid. Also with maureen looking to leave a new manager will try to move on older players. Not 100 percent sure but I think they still have a house here as nagore gets the easyjet liv/madrid flight regulary. Granted he's not in the owners template but is exactly what we need

Depends on wages and longevity for me. Yes, he would be perfect for Rodgers style, but, how long as he got left? I guess Liverpool know if he's in the mould of giggs and has looked after himself etc and has another 3 yeahrs at top level.

Do we want to spend 75,000 ish or whatever on wages and he not be able to compete because of fitness/age. (75k is what he is on now. Would he take a 1 or 2 year contract. That's all would be sensible to give at 31. Does he want more money?

I love alonso but isn't this what we've done badly for years! Take on players at the wrong time in their careers for stupid wages and then we're struggling with wage bills!

I'd rather spend the extra on a player like erikson who at 21 has scores goals and has prospects. Problem would be outbidding teams like utd. And fighting to get a player who probably wants champs league Etc but I think there is more value there than to get alonso back. But, I'd take both if we could!

09 Mar 2013 12:15:24
The points you make are valid indeed, I just think the pros would outweigh the cons.

Whiskey Nose earmarked him to stop earlier this week.

He would be the perfect partner for Lucas.

He wouldn't cost a bomb, and we would have a realistic chance of signing him.

He wouldn't take anytime to adjust to the pace of the league.

Deep laying playmakers seem to be able to play longer than the box to box types.

He's played in the same style of football really successfully for the Spanish Squad.

The next three years are crucial. Signing Alonso would give our midfield another dimension, as well as persuading other stars to stay perhaps?
I think 3 years would be a fair contract offer, he's argueably a better player now than when he left us.

It probably won't happen, but i'd assume he wouldn't demand huge wages. I'm not going to guess what he's cost altogether but it could be a real coup!

I think age has become overhyped recently. Speaking from a medical point of view, there is no reason why a well managed player can't play at top levels well into his mid 30s. The thing that changes I believe is the players desire and commitment, if the player has those two things, sports science has progressed far enough now that a 35yr old player should be able to function as a top athlete. FR

NO BRAINER Alonso in our midfield with suarez, danny, coutinio downing, sterling to hit with passes my god it would be worth his wages for three seasons to have him stevie servicing them lot goals goals goals

FR - there is no way that sports science can make a 35 year old perform equally as well physically as a 25 year old.

In your early 20s you are at your peak physical fitness, therefore a 35 year old you would not be as fit as the rest.

hi eds could you tell me Why do we want Sanchez he has scored like 5 times in two seasons for barca and for a striker that isn't good enough I think the fans only want him because he plays for barca

I think its more of a confendence thing with him, never really lived up to it and managed to play for ''barca'' like he could.

Maybe a move would do him good, but if we are in for him I hope we don't pay silly money.

I would welcome him if we get a good deal :)

No it's because he's better than all our wingers
