What's happening with the LB situation. Milner has done a top job and he's a managers dream squad player but he can't No1 choice next season?

Believable7 Unbelievable3

09 Jun 2017 21:56:45
Already approached Bertrand.

09 Jun 2017 22:26:44
We won't pay the 7 mil for Robertson. Offering 3 mil.

09 Jun 2017 22:37:31
Milner it is then.

09 Jun 2017 22:43:41
Sounds stupid but if the VVD deal is dead and I mean 0% we can get him use the money and get Mandy and use Joe Gomez as 3rd choice.

09 Jun 2017 23:22:46
£60m worth of Mandy sounds like a really messy night!

09 Jun 2017 23:35:50
Think we'd get investigated again if we went and got 'Mandy' lol.

09 Jun 2017 23:38:03
Mendy will be off to City or Chelsea.

09 Jun 2017 23:48:21
You have to think about in a footballing sense

There's an obvious reason why we struggle against these smaller sides and that's the fact that they congest the middle of the park

Milner on the left struggles on his left and cuts inside all the time, that forces us to go narrow and on the other side Nathanial Clyne has one of the worst first touches I've ever ever seen from a Liverpool player takes 6 touches too many, cuts inside and plays a 5 yard pass again forcing us through the middle

If we had a couple of decent natural full backs who would be happy to take the ball on the overlap and drive towards the line with the ability to put in a decent delivery it would stretch the defences, it would create more space in the middle and would lead to us performing much better against the 'park the bus boot it long' kinda teams

Klopp has obviously seen it himself which is why he's desperate for a left back and was looking at the pereira lad at right back

IMO they are the two main 'problem' positions for this Liverpool side, and they did appear to be a priority before Van Dijk threw himself at us.

10 Jun 2017 03:05:25
That's well written Ruthless but I'm also nervous going into a heavy campaign with Klavan and Gomez the only backup CBs. particularly as Lovren and Matip don't the have a stellar injury track record from last season either. As much as our first team FBs are an issue, our lack of depth at CB is potentially a bigger one IMO if we lose someone for a key CL match.

With regards to midfield we're fine if it comes down to it. Hendo and Can deep, with Gini, Lallana, Coutinho, Grujic is a good mix further forward.

I do think we need another true winger in the side, but if worst comes to worst we can still use Couts, Mane, Firmino, Sturridge and Origi and give Ojo a go. He's young but a Mane style player with pace and we could do worse than use him from time to time.

09 Jun 2017 20:43:39
What a rollercoaster year! And what a rollercoaster transfer window so far! Anth to look forward to? Can anyone share any optimistic news at all?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

09 Jun 2017 21:46:46
Yep! I'm still confident we'll improve an already strong team before the transfer window is over. Studger will have a great, injury free season, Ings will come back, Gomez will be blooded and offer cover at the back, Grujic will play more and impress, Migs and Karius will feature and both improve. Hendo will be managed well and cotribute in key games. TAA will start to establish himself at right back, Woodburn will either play more in cup and league, or possibly go on loan. Hopefully Ojo will get a change and Ejaria might get a decent loan.

09 Jun 2017 22:37:40
AndyM - Please tell me where I can get those "happy pills" you're taking. LOL . :-)

09 Jun 2017 22:57:00
That wouldn't even happen on Fifa or Football manager. Put down the drugs lol.

09 Jun 2017 23:17:00
Everyone needs to calm the hell down, the window is not opened as yet and it's pandemonium already . We won't always get the targets we aimbgor but be positive.

09 Jun 2017 22:04:04
I want some of what your on pal.

09 Jun 2017 20:34:38
Relatively sure that Lucas has another 12 months on his current deal.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

09 Jun 2017 22:38:46
I would assume so based on him being on the retained list this probably rules out another CM joining.

09 Jun 2017 19:17:43
question for square tomato if arround if not any edds any news on joe gomez i heard a rumour bournemouth and brighton looking to sign him hope not and if they are a loan any news.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

09 Jun 2017 19:47:52
Is Joe gomez literally all that square tomato knows about hahahaha.

09 Jun 2017 20:05:57
I'd happily let him go to either club on loan. Especially if we do sign a new centre back. A years experience in prem would do him a world of good.

09 Jun 2017 20:40:31
I would play him at left back if no left full can be found and Milner on the right and I bet there would be a huge improvement instantly, livened has improved immensely over the last 9 months and MARIO can only get better in my opinion, there should be more emphasis on a potential for a backup to Henderson ( I know can can do the job) but he can be utilised better a little more in a further position in the midfield with wini on the right and counts on the left and then firming on the left, mane on the right and why not through Solanke into the heat for the 1st 3-4 games up front and see how he works out. There's plenty of preseason to work on that with the current squad as is if we cannot bring in any other players just a tweet here and there and some grit determination and fight in their bellies and you never know that might just click.

Oh by the way I would make Karius our no1 as I consider him our best keeper in the squad not matter how much kings has improved he will always be a liability but can accept the reasoning klipperty came to after the barrage of abuse the poor kid received when he arrived which was very very unfair in my opinion.

I know there's loads out there who will berate me for this but have a good think about what I have mentioned and tell me if we had those players in those positions last season would be have actually being a real contender come the end of the season?

Maybe!

09 Jun 2017 21:08:06
Some strange points and then, just to cap it all off, you throw Karius into the hat as number 1. Not going to happen.

10 Jun 2017 00:34:10
I think Gomez could be used as back up for LB as he did a good job there two seasons ago, or if we need to play defensively (as if that ever happens) . Milner back up RB for me also.

10 Jun 2017 09:22:49
Just out of honest interest, savvyone, on what basis do you believe Karius is the better keeper?

10 Jun 2017 18:53:01
Can you think of a better keeper on the books other than migs? Really he had a decent run in at the end of the season granted but it was the fans that put pressure and very unfair criticism of Karius on him, totally unwarranted. How many games over the years has migs cost us, c'mon be honest. migs can't kick a ball never mind catch one he would be better at catching a cold.

09 Jun 2017 19:03:18
Is there any chance that transfer fees will be lower and not inflated in the future years to come?

Believable1 Unbelievable7

09 Jun 2017 19:31:32
Definitely not, year on year more money is coming into the game only meaning the fees will get higher. Frightening to think what the record transfer fee will be in the next 2/ 3 years.

09 Jun 2017 18:40:02
I wonder why Klopp was very optimistic a week ago. Was it because FSG promised to back him up financially or because he believed his tapping up of players would yield great results. I think it is the latter.

Believable5 Unbelievable9

09 Jun 2017 19:51:24
Behave man! Most ridiculous post of the day goes to.

09 Jun 2017 23:00:37
Problem is Klopp persuaded these players to join us but yet our owners still under offered for them. Klopp can persuade players until he is blue in the face, but if the owners continue with their ways then he is simply wasting his breath.

09 Jun 2017 18:28:28
Hi guys and eds. off topic, but i was just wondering what you all taught of ray houghton as a player. I really loved him, fast, clever on the ball just class to watch? Any taughts. just taught the eds needed a break from all of the same questions over and over. CHeers.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I got to know him pretty well when he was at Oxford. He lived close by to one of my wives and used to practice with the local pub side in Berkshire. He is a very nice man.}

09 Jun 2017 19:10:51
Bundles of energy, stamina and spirit.
Much under-rated.

09 Jun 2017 19:41:04
Good first touch and a handy knack of weighing in goals and assists. Him, Beardsley, Barnes and Aldridge were unstoppable.

09 Jun 2017 19:52:02
Great finisher too.

09 Jun 2017 20:56:34
Hard worker and a busy player, the vision and first touch of a number ten and the work ethic of a Dirk Kuyt.

09 Jun 2017 22:09:59
Reminded me of Brian hall.

09 Jun 2017 18:33:49
Silly question Ed. How many wives do you actually have?

{Ed002's Note - It depends how you count them. Two or three.}

09 Jun 2017 18:13:21
If this is the way our transfer situation has started before the window has even opened then I have got news for everyone.

Our transfer window has ended before it even started.

Anyone who still believes there is still a chance to to sign VVD need some TLC. Firstly, we are not going to be able to afford VVD now, whether we were able to afford him while tapping him up was also not going to be likely as all we were doing was fending off interest in VVD from Chelsea and City by getting the player on our side and in return have Southampton left with no option but to accept what we were willing to offer.

It turns out that Southampton were not that stupid in the end. Now they can say, how about £90m for VVD. Game over.

Believable4 Unbelievable8

09 Jun 2017 18:33:31
Yeah and have a player who doesn't wsnt to be thete and potentially miss out on 50 mil, which is way over the odds.

All he needs is one bad injury or one bad season and that value plumets.

Nows the time to sell and they no it. If liverpool, city or chelsea get priced out they will all just go elsewhere and won't need him again.

09 Jun 2017 18:39:51
The proof is in the pudding. If we are not willing to pay the asking price for Salah then there most likely would have been no chance we would have been willing to pay the asking price for VVD, even if we did not tap him up.

I really hope FSG have the whip out. Those blamingFSG for this mess need to seek help. Yes they employ the staff running this club but doubt FSG employ them and pay them to screw them and the club over. It is not like FSG are sitting in player negotiations or advised Dalglish to put on a shirt supporting Suarez when Suarez made and absolute mockery of this club. Dalglish lost his job because of adding feul to the Suarez fire.

Would not surprise me if FSG are planning on taking the broom and sweeping clean again. If they employ incompetence again then the whip should be out for them. One cannot keep on making the same mistakes over and over again.

09 Jun 2017 18:48:37
Come on Max, you're better than this. A month ago I looked forward to reading your posts but this negativity is ruining you objectivity.

We have already signed Solanke, we are still in with a slim chance of Van Dijk (as much as I disagree with it) and Salah looks very likely to be done soon.

Chamberlain interest has gone nowhere so maybe that explains the Emre Mor/ Gelson Martins rumoured interest. Both of those guys would be a massive improvement to our depth in pace/ quality up front.

Robertson or Mendy could still happen as well and I also wouldn't entirely rule out a midfielder such as Keita and a new senior keeper to replace Manninger. Who knows, we may even still add Pereira if Clyne is moved on.

I know it is disappointing to have a deal seemingly wrapped up, and then snatched away, but it is not worth a total meltdown. I look forward to reading your opinions again when you have calmed down a tad mate :)

{Ed025's Note - max meldrew.. :)

09 Jun 2017 19:12:11
We get it max, you want us to sign VVD.
Some of us don't believe our future rests in signing a defender who has been injured for 6 months.

09 Jun 2017 19:31:57
MK, the club has been made a complete mockery of, again. You can just imagine if we approach other clubs about their players. The first thing on their mind will be, have Liverpool had any contact with our player without our permission? There is your price, now pay it or kindly F off.

Some may think this situation is not serious. Liverpool just cannot seem to stay out of trouble.

I really could not be bothered with the transfer window now. What the club has done has ruined every last bit of excitement I had.

09 Jun 2017 19:53:57
VVD isn't happening. For obvious reasons.
Salah isn't happening. See above.
Mendy isn't happening. If we're haggling over Salah, then £40m for a left back is a non starter specially since Chelsea are sniffing around.
Keita isn't going to happen.
Dortmund aren't going to let Mor go.
If we won't pay £35m for Salah then £45m for Gelson Martin is a non starter.

If (and that's a big if), we do any more business this summer, it'll likely be free transfers and woeful players like Keane or Grey.

09 Jun 2017 19:54:59
Why would they say that Max? Just crawl back under your rock until September and leave the complicated stuff to the big boys.

09 Jun 2017 20:08:50
"I really could not be bothered with the transfer window now. What the club has done has ruined every last bit of excitement I had. "

Max, you're acting like a fully fledged drama queen now.

09 Jun 2017 21:32:07
I think he needs a smacked bottom and to go and sit it out in his room.

09 Jun 2017 20:56:34
If this is considered the worst it can get and the window hasn't even opened yet, then surely by the time the window open it can only get better!?

09 Jun 2017 20:58:43
It's got nothing to to with excitement but has everything to do with professionalism and conducting business effectively and legally, which we haven't done. So yeah, the transfer window is effectively ruined because there is absolutely no way that we will see top players coming here.

09 Jun 2017 22:56:48
Max, calm down lad, it will all turn out okay .

09 Jun 2017 19:19:59
One of your wives Ed. How many do you have or had. Greedy.

{Ed002's Note - Two or three.}

10 Jun 2017 00:56:50
You know, I just read a flashback about our signings in the summer of 2010. We signed Joe Cole, Milan Jovanovic, Christian Poulsen, Paul Konchesky, and Danny Wilson. The suicide squad!

Give it a bit of time for all this the crap Liverpool got themselves tangled with (like tapping up and court cases etc) to blow over, then sort themselves out internally; and I'm sure we'll sign some good players during this window.

One thing I can say is that we do have time on our side here.

10 Jun 2017 09:28:08
Someone give max a hug. The window isn't open yet pal, no point in giving up before you begin.

09 Jun 2017 18:02:55
Adam Phillips being released by the club seems odd to me he used to be so well thought of. Very strange I know he didn't really get any game time last season but it's still weird.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

09 Jun 2017 18:17:13
Couple years ago I thought Jack Dunn was a certainty to be pushed into the first team. Seems to have gone really downhill since then obviously leading to him being released, hope he finds his form elsewhere he's got huge talent.

09 Jun 2017 18:18:47
More surprised at Brimmer myself. Shows how hard it is to make that last step though!

09 Jun 2017 19:26:37
For years Liverpool have been littered with the next big player only for it to never happen. I don't think fans appreciate how difficult it must be for a youngster to "make it" at a big club like Liverpool. Not easy.

09 Jun 2017 17:16:38
Surely Klopp has got to be getting pi**ed off with how the negotiations have gone and how much we have cocked things up?

Could he consider his position at the club if we can't get our act together?

SA.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Klopp has acted illegally yet again - repeatedly tapping up players.}

09 Jun 2017 17:43:25
Sorry I didn't realise Klopp was part of the problem. Clubs and players will refuse to deal with us unless we get our act together.

09 Jun 2017 17:44:03
Was it something known to for him to be doing at Dortmund Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Yes he has done it before.}

09 Jun 2017 17:45:14
SA Kopp and Liverpool are both 2 blame. So they only have themselves to be p****d off at.

09 Jun 2017 17:52:16
SA, you do understand that is Klopp who illegally met up with Van Dijk?

I cannot see many clubs being happy to do business with us this summer unless LFC are willing to give other clubs their bank account number as well as the pin number.

Being stupid the way Liverpool have will only get them one thing = payback.

09 Jun 2017 21:54:00
Who do you think tells Klopp to "speak" with these players? The club has people who are incompetent running the show and I certainly don't mean Klopp.

09 Jun 2017 19:18:38
Ed02, i am not making excuses at all, if its wrong its wrong, but according to some ex professional, this goes on all the time in football today. I don't understand it well enough but they say (several people including nicol) that there is a lot more fuss being made of all these tapping allegations than there should be.

Like i said i am just asking, not defending.

{Ed002's Note - Clubs do not talk to players all of the time. You can argue that players will talk to other players - some at the behest of clubs (something Liverpool are also guilty of), and agents will overstep the mark on occasion but it is rare that clubs and managers arrange meetings with players. There is not more fuss than necessary being made because Liverpool and Klopp are repeat offenders.}

09 Jun 2017 22:33:16
Do yoy rekon it was like when you would truly and blag your mum into buying something, then you told her the price.

Just thought of klopp banging on about vvs to jwh, and sayinghe'll walk the dog and clean the car if they buy him. Until "well how much is it". haha sorry just a lighter mood needed.

09 Jun 2017 16:37:35
Lucas signing new deal as he is not on our released players list?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

09 Jun 2017 16:51:02
Dont think it means anything.

{Ed002's Note - Lucas is out of contract and talking to Gremio.}

09 Jun 2017 17:27:56
Whatever he does I can only wish him well, a good servant of the club.

09 Jun 2017 16:24:02
Momo Salah's agent just tweeted this
"Sometimes, good things come to those who don't wait too long. "

Can we please just pay the money and get this deal done, typical of us to be close to signing a really good player yet we are penny pinching again, sick of this crap every Summer.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

09 Jun 2017 17:10:38
We are lacking ambitions yet again. We have been told about money we can spend this transfer window and yet again we won't pay the asking price.

09 Jun 2017 17:27:46
Messing about with Salah yet again, we're laughable I can't get my head round it.

09 Jun 2017 17:30:50
I don't think we are Penny pinching, We have offered close to £30m for a player signed for half. I think its a good offer and also other alternatives available if it doesn't work out. Its not going to make or break our transfer window. Personally I would like us to sign him and hope we stump up but don't think we are penny pinching in fairness.

I would like to think we are negotiating with the club but that's not our style 😂😂.

09 Jun 2017 17:57:38
'Penny pinching' £8 million?

09 Jun 2017 15:53:48
Hi Eds, since we have publicly apologized and backed out of the deal to sign VVD, do you think that this will actually favour Southampton? I mean, I don't think that they will want to keep an unhappy player.

Southampton's actions might make it easier for Chelsea or City to get the player, since its no secret that he has the desire to leave. Would the whole thing backfire on Southampton and they might end up getting less than what Liverpool has offered?

Having said that, I still have a tiny hope that we can somehow land him if Liverpool can sort out the differences with Southampton.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no idea how you figure this out. Saints are not going to lose out, he will have to waive his cut of the transfer fee to leave.}

09 Jun 2017 16:15:52
He's not coming. We've seen to that by our own stupid actions. Forget about Salah as well. That's now at an end. We literally are the worst at going about business. If you're expecting top class players forget it. It's also rans and never have beens as that's all they're equipped to go for.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has not offered anything to Southampton.}

09 Jun 2017 16:24:45
Ed can I ask please how it works or were we are at on this, am I right in thinking the negotiations with his agent/ him now mean nothing and if we are to pick the deal up again we are starting from scratch once we have asked the Saints if we can talk to the player/ agent? Also am I right in thinking we will not contact them now unless the player hands in a transfer request? Just trying to weigh things up.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool made an illegal approach for a player - it is not allowed. Liverpool may yet be charged. They have disgraced themselves yet again and yet again shown a total disregard for others and for players. They have lied to the FA recently whilst fouling up the career of a 12 year old and have apending court case whilst currently serving a ban. Rotten to the core. The club has issued a statement that that have dropped all interest in the player - you don't seem to get any of this.}

09 Jun 2017 16:36:01
Have any talks taken place since the whole debacle earlier in the week ed002? or any provision to hold talks? Between Liverpool and S'ton I mean obvs.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - About what?}

09 Jun 2017 16:48:28
Ed002 that's what I meant by us being the worst, we haven't spoken directly to the club and through being underhand and thinking that it's being clever we've completed ballsed up any chance of a deal. I'm still livid that people employed by the club thinks that it's ok.

09 Jun 2017 16:53:21
Why would it?
We have publicly declared we are no longer interested in signing the player!

09 Jun 2017 16:58:02
Its obviously been widely reported, as you also have stated, that S'ton will be now slapping a £70m figure on VVD's head.

I guess what i'm asking is, does it look like we are going to go back with our tail between our legs and meet with them over a a potential transfer, or do you see it as totally dead in the water?

i know its an embarrassing step for the club if they were to do that, but just wondered if there is any info at this stage.

Sorry for the confusion.

{Ed002's Note - The club have made a public statement that there is no more interest.}

09 Jun 2017 17:01:25
No matter how much we may love Liverpool we must step back and objectively analyze their actions as an organization. Liverpool has been ethically and legally negligent with transfers. The sooner we as supporters realize that the better.

09 Jun 2017 15:51:48
Ed could it well be that we finish up signing know one this window? Or am I being far to negative.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - who knows with Liverpool.}

09 Jun 2017 16:07:16
Probably best to wait until the window actually opens ;)

09 Jun 2017 16:08:57
I would say you're being far too negative.

09 Jun 2017 16:18:00
If we sign players it won't be top class ones, you can be assured of that. It'll be the likes of Keane/ Gibson/ Maguire/ Drinkwater/ Gray as that's about the level that the people who run our club are capable of.

09 Jun 2017 16:20:53
Solanke from Chelsea. ends the no-one signed doesn't it.

09 Jun 2017 16:37:19
Such a load of negative thinkers on here. Thank goodness you lot are not involved in running the club. The poor owners get the blame for everything. A club employee tittle tattles to the press and it is the owners fault. Other clubs reject our offers, it is the owners fault. We buy a player and everyone says he cost to much. Owners fault.
Why cannot people be a bit more patient and reasonable.
Think positively, you will feel better for it.

09 Jun 2017 16:40:52
Give it a rest Frankly. not that long since we've signed the likes of Matip, Gini, Mane, Firmino, Benteke, Milner, Llalana etc. most sides would be very happy to have done most of that business.

09 Jun 2017 16:49:30
Didn't win a title though and still not dining at the top table are we?

09 Jun 2017 20:30:26
Makybe not frankly but you were one of the many that was berating the players mentioned above before they even kicked a ball in my opinion so far there has been a huge improvement in the club with the owners coaching staff etc but there's still work to be done in regards terms of engagement in reference to dealing with potential players and also the handling of current players and yes mr. klopp has made mistake, all managers and coaches do but what has happened over the last 18 months really is remarkable considering the state that Bodgersnleft the club in so after that my hats off to the current batch of players the coaching staff and most of all the owners as for them we would be lower level football club only for their constant investment and hard work over the past few years.

09 Jun 2017 15:10:58
I'm reading other media sources, far more than the usual, probably because of the recent events involving our attempts at transfers. But one thing has to be said - the English media can really be a bunch of vultures circling around mercilessly over a weakened prey. And it's disgraceful to see and read.

Granted we were in the wrong and the statement put out by the club leaves no doubt about it. But things have a limit.

Last Monday we were an ambitious, progressing team capable of buying stellar players at record breaking prices. They all implied we were to be feared next year and the future looked really good.

By Wednesday, LFC were a bunch of cheats full of arrogance and underhanded dealings, preying on smaller clubs and using mostly unethical methods in doing business.

And today, Friday, there's nothing but a long array of failed transfers from the past, bungled deals and questionable business tactics. A lot going back almost 20 years. Monday's hero is being crucified by Friday.

A new poster, Yankee Red, had asked a question about "British tabloid culture", a few days ago. I didn't know what he meant and Ed001 had replied that this had nothing to do with it. But I see what was meant, now.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

09 Jun 2017 15:31:41
Let's be honest, the media create most the problems that arrise.

09 Jun 2017 18:30:17
It's the football clube that's dug itself into this mess with its characteristic, disgraceful and sickeningly unprofessional conduct. NOT the media. The media will (unsurprisingly) latch on to whatever it's fed. and boy is Liverpool feeding it in boatloads.

This behavior is well documented now.
And there's NOTHING to suggest it's going to be stopping anytime soon.

A poster/ ed on here suggested that perhaps a transfer ban would properly ram the ethical and professional point home.
I totally agree. It may be in the interests of justice (and perhaps even the club itself) that charges are brought on the club.

Someone somewhere is doing an appalling job at oversight.
This is damaging to the club and the longer this goes on there more diminished the standing and reputation of the institution.

As for Klopp, some sort of discipline SHOULD be meted out on him.
There are no holy cows.
His own conduct in such incidents further shatters the already incredible muddied reputation of the club.

The media are just doing their job. Fair to say that certain outlets will exaggerate the truth or exaggerate fake news no doubt. But usually if you have no reason to be in the news then there is no news. We have no one else to blame but ourselves.

09 Jun 2017 14:49:42
Quick question for a bit of fun, who do people think is going to be the biggest improvement next season, or the most surprising if u like? Kind of like the way lallana came on leaps and bounds this season.
Personally I think wijnaldum is going to be a beast next season! Did a great job last season linking defense to attack and showed I'm glimpses his class with a few goals and passes! Also his work rate is brilliant in that midfield trio! Would be interesting to hear others opinions can be any player no matter how big or small or what position! Also curious if people agree with me on wijnaldum cos I think his input often goes unnoticed or under the radar!

09 Jun 2017 15:08:25
Karius.

09 Jun 2017 15:21:26
I'm hoping it will be Can and that he'll improve his defensive abilities even further. We have a leadership deficit when Henderson is not playing, and I think Can can provide it if he is given the free reign for it. When fit and in form, he's a fierce tackler with a menacing scowl on his face. The kind that rubs off on teammates and makes the opposition think twice before kicking the ball in his direction.

09 Jun 2017 15:26:24
Clyne.

09 Jun 2017 15:27:31
We haven't seen the best of Wijnaldum yet that's for sure, although he had a good season it seemed to me he was holding back in terms of not making mistakes on the ball as it was his first season in front of a very judgemental fanbase and crowd. Think you'll see a lot more forward runs with the ball instead of him looking for the simple pass.

09 Jun 2017 17:25:25
Studge, he'll be available for the majority of the season and will score a hat full.

09 Jun 2017 21:16:47
And Lukaku will say he's staying at Everton for 10 years, as he can't wait to play at the new stadium.

09 Jun 2017 14:10:06
Hello Eds and posters.

First time poster but long time reader.

I just wondered on your thoughts around Jordan Henderson regarding how much involvement he will have next season?

With coutinho (if he stays) seemingly going to a deeper position along with possibly lallana, I just struggle to find him in the starting 11 as he doesn't seem to me to be that natural DM which looks like Emre Cans role. Do you think he becomes more of a squad player next year?

I was also worried about the lack of leadership that will leave us with considering we are probably signing a new LB who will no doubt be a younger player which will then take James Milners leadership out of the equation too.

I guess there's a lot of ifs, buts and probablys in there but i was just interested in your thoughts.

Thanks guys.

He'll play when back fit whether or not he keeps his place is up to him. but he will definitely be given opportunities imo.

09 Jun 2017 14:32:38
Hendo and Can are not only very different players, but hendo is a level above Can, he's obviously first choice and will continue to be so for the next few years I would imagine

For the 275th time - Klopp does not care about playing with a dm, when hendo is fit, hendo plays.

09 Jun 2017 13:58:54
First time post .
Maybe a blessing that we missed out on vvd, I quite like the look of Keane and Gibson . Could be good partnership alongside matip who I think will be even better next season . Wasn't too sure about salah either . Maybe we are not desperate to fill that area .

I think a central striker who is mobile and can pick up 20 plus goals a season would be better use of money maybe vardy or someone mobile like him for the counter attack, and then let sturridge go, too many injuries. And a strong defensive midfielder is needed plus a quality left back, Shaw or Cresswell .

Believable0 Unbelievable21

09 Jun 2017 14:14:40
Mendy, gibbo, peri and costa/ lacazette would be the dream for me.

09 Jun 2017 14:23:23
Good post Jonboy. And then you suggested Vardy.

09 Jun 2017 14:24:05
i would take Gibson, big strong left footer also a much needed leader, young too and would fit in, good price, I would also go for Andrew Robertson from Hull, solid young ish, good price, good left foot, can also score the odd goal .

09 Jun 2017 14:34:24
imo VVD isn't as good as some fans suggested but still miles ahead of those two you mentioned.

09 Jun 2017 16:26:45
Gibson is pretty woeful, at best he's a mid table player. As for being 'big and strong' he's 6'1" which is at the very lower end for a centre half and he gets beaten quite often in the air. He's quite slow and is poor on the ball. As for Keane he's a died in the wool United fan and I wouldn't want him anywhere near our starting 11. Aside from the fact he's slow, weak, poor first touch, can't pass and has absolutely no awareness or intelligence. The fact that some of you would settle for these sorts means you're preparing for a season in the championship not the champions league.

10 Jun 2017 14:56:58
Has to mendy mate. he's probably the 3 lbs in the world. You can't miss that boat.

Gibbo is the leader we need. The brute, tough tackling cb we haven't had since jamie.

For every agger (classy and calm) you need a thug haha. Sorry jimbo.

Matip doesn't need someone else less vocal than him becayde he's quite himself, he doesn't need anothet passer because he is that cb. He needs the polar opposite. Gibson is that man.

I would then prefer diego over anyone up top, as he is exactly what we need. couldn't give a toss if he's a pain in the arse, pay for him and then pay him. he's a 2 time title winner, 1 la liga winner. Champions leage finalist. 20 goal a season superstar. Be utterly stupid to not even get in the mix for him.

Then when all is done. If were dtill flush. Peri at rb.

09 Jun 2017 14:02:39
Isn't Roma's director Ramon Monchi, the person that achieved great things with Sevilla with very little?
I think he is also the same person that Liverpool tried to mess around during the Alberto Moreno saga.
I think Liverpool would be wise not to try to screw him again at Roma. If so they can forget about Salah or any future negotiations.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

09 Jun 2017 14:17:50
Yeah because roma are the only club we can buy from.

All this teams won't deal with us is utter bollocks.

If we offer the fee any teams wants then we will sign the player.

Do you honestly wholeheartedly believe that if for example we now offered 40 million for mendy, they would reject on the fact we messed another team around. There is no principles in football. The same as we all support players regardless are what they have been proven to be, it doesn't matter wether they are racist, biters, woman beaters aslong as they play well we couldn't give a toss.

Before you all say anything. suarez.

09 Jun 2017 15:15:21
If we offered 40M for Mendy, Monaco would let him go and we shake hands, all parties happy.

What I'm really annoyed about is Liverpool would put a bid of like 20M + add-ons to Monaco on the table. Would you accept that if you were a director at the Stade Louis II?

Don't get me wrong, I don't want Liverpool to just stupidly accept every price quoted by the selling clubs, I just want them to have some tact at the negotiating table that's all. They can always say 'thats too much, we're walking away. Thanks for your time. ' if they can't pay it.

09 Jun 2017 14:00:10

09 Jun 2017 13:52:30
Lads, only found this site this year and really liking the information as it's here before sky sports even report it. On that note I have a few questions I'd be happy to here the answer to:

VVD - Absolutely gutted when I read that we ended interest because I think he is top quality. Id pay £60mil and not think twice. So, what are our actual chances of getting him?

Salah: Didn't pay much attention to the Italian league this year but from his stats on Whoscored, I think he would be a great addition, just look at January, that month nearly messed everything for us.

Any ft-back: don't get me wrong, I thought Milner was fantastic last year but a out an out left back makes the difference in a solid defence.

Lacazette: I know this is the most far out possibility but to have a striker who scores 20+ goals a year takes us from finishing 4th to competing for 1st.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

09 Jun 2017 14:07:53
Honestly if we don't sign van dijk I'd be shocked as I think signing him for a reasonable but still exorbitant fee is the only way to clean this mess up in my opinion.

On salah complete guess work but again imo we will only not get salah if we go back an sort Brandt out so for me I think it will be one or the other.

Full back we will sign one possibly two but looking more likely to be one. numerous possibilities have been mentioned.

Laccazette I highly doubt. We signed solanke and unless sturridge and one of our other attacking players leave like firmino ings or origi I don't think any striker will be brought in.

Apart from that there's a possibility rather than a probability of a midfielder but who knows!

09 Jun 2017 16:43:19
Personally I think Salah isn't going to happen, the owners aren't prepared to do what's necessary to make it happen, Brandt won't happen as he wants absolute assurances on playing time. So if we bring in a winger it will be cheap and not very cheerful (Demerai Gray. )

VVD isn't going to happen. He's Chelsea or Man City's now as they will just make it happen without being bellends.

Lacazette won't happen either, if he doesn't go to Atletico it'll be Arsenal, simply because they're likely to qualify for Champions League football next season and we will fall short as our squad and first team aren't capable or consistent and we won't have added enough quality to the squad to compete.

As for left back, forget Mendy, we wouldn't pay £35m for a top class winger, so £40m for a left back is pie in the sky. We'll go for Robertson, low ball then and start the season with Milner since we probably couldn't even make that one happen.

09 Jun 2017 11:57:11
Eds, with the salah deal seemingly not going through because of the price, would that see our attention to to some one like balde of lazio? Is this just other clubs trying to hold out for more money because they know we need to be seen as doing things correctly. Cheers for all the work you do.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I don't understand the question. It is not just about money.}

09 Jun 2017 12:13:39
Can I just say to people who are saying this window is a disgrace, pathetic, we've messed it all up etc, the window is not open, we will sign players who we need, I for one am not gutted about VVD, no better than sakho imo, just relax man! Plenty of other players we can sign, loosing out on a £60m defender who let's be honest reminds me of a Southampton lovren? Isn't a big deal in my eyes! Crack on.

Believable7 Unbelievable7

09 Jun 2017 13:04:22
He is better than what we have including Sakho and will improve the squad greatly.

Everyone use to hold there breath when Sakho had the ball at his feet or tried to control the ball.

09 Jun 2017 13:13:11
vvd is pure class and I think would have been one of the cb we have had for a very long time. I hope that be can still get the deal over the line and to say he is not better than lovren and Sakho is joke.

09 Jun 2017 13:28:27
I'm with you Taylor and Grino. Not only is he much better than Klavan and Lovren, I think the others would play better with him along side him. WIth injuries etc, this would happen.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the red Mancs paid £30m for Ferdinand back in 2002, 15 years ago.

Can we shut up about politics? I know Merseyside completely voted Labour, but there's plenty of other LFC fans who wanted the Tories to win, and no that doesn't make them lesser LFC fans. Best to keep politics out of this.

09 Jun 2017 10:34:14
Hope we get priced out of a move for Martins and turn to Costa. Salah would have been ideal but clearly Roma have priced him out so its better to target a proven winner than another Markovic. Bayern i belive willing to sell for 30 million, so FSg should stump up as its clearly within our budget.

09 Jun 2017 11:21:42
Not convinced by martins at all, seems all tricks and turns with no end product. Poor mans lallana if you will. Not saying he could not be coach and i trust klopp on this if he is indeed a target.

09 Jun 2017 12:15:16
There is a really good reason Bayern want shot of him. He is a trouble maker.

09 Jun 2017 13:39:44
Brandt was 1st choice surely, so that would mean going for our 4th choice with Costa! What assurance of playing time did he want, Ed? Surely if Coutinho drops deep, he'd play most important games!

{Ed001's Note - he wanted guarantees if fit he would play, not assurances.}

09 Jun 2017 14:17:35
Thanks Ed, presume we couldn't give them?

{Ed001's Note - would you give a guarantee that the club has to abide by even if he is not playing well?}

09 Jun 2017 15:53:27
Probably not, but if that was what he wanted, then maybe we did right going elsewhere.

09 Jun 2017 09:46:14
Morning all,

Question for Eds, do you think Grujic and even Henderson's future at LFC is looking doubtful given the amount of existing midfielders and the possibility of adding more. Also that Couts could be played in one of the midfield slots behind the front 3.

Also regarding youth development, at one point it was looking like we would give our youngsters the opportunity to kick on and push their way into the squad, which is now looking like it's not happening. Is this due to them not hitting the required standard? From what I've seen of the youngsters we could probably save ourselves massive amounts of money, and avoiding tapping up issues by giving them the opportunity and chance to shine.

Thanks for all your great knowledge and hard work, very appreciated.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - not due to existing midfielders, no.

Not sure how you can say the second bit, it is youth development, it takes years not a few months.}

09 Jun 2017 10:03:10
Agree that it is a process that takes years not months, but how many years has it been since a youth player has developed and stepped up into the 1st team as a regular.

{Ed001's Note - how is that relevant to last season?}

09 Jun 2017 10:18:45
What are your thoughts on the current youth development, are any of our players ready to step up as opposed to going into the transfer market to fill these positions.

{Ed001's Note - TAA is the only one really.}

09 Jun 2017 10:38:03
Woodburn I think will be a huge player for us after the next couple of seasons. TAA obviously the standout now for me. IF we cannot sign a new RB this summer, then I hope Klopp makes TAA our first choice RB and demotes Clyne to backup. NOts ure about TAA's defensive capabilities but he will be a million times better than Clyne charging forward and actually help out Mane.

09 Jun 2017 07:27:25

{Ed001's Note - if you say so. Maybe in the 1850s when sexism was rife it was nice for men to carry a lady's bags for her, however in this era of enlightenment and equality, I, being an enlightened chap, let them carry their own bags. It is only right and fair. I would hate to be a sexist pig like you clearly are, thinking a woman is unable to carry her own bags.....

Alternatively I could just be too busy watching the footie to go out and carry bags for her. Plus she needs the exercise to be fair....}

Our reputation has been dented further. No wonder clubs around the world do not want to or avoid doing business with us.

Anyways damage has been done and I guess it will take a few years to get it right provided there are no more slip ups.

As far as the transfer window is concerned, I have really lost interest in our transfer dealings and would rather see the same team as last year's rather than buying for the sake of it as none of the bigger clubs or players would play for us unless we cough up substantial amounts. There are younger players within our ranks who can be given a chance. Worst case scenario can be that season may turn out to be a failure but aren't we used to all this!
