All the best in the future to Daniel Agger. While an excellent player, his love for rock music and tattoos will keep him happy in retirement.

09 Jun 2016 22:38:17
Brilliant player in his time, fantastic servant for the club. good luck to the lad.

09 Jun 2016 23:43:21
I met the Dagger in a bar in Liverpool once. Spoke briefly and he was friendly enough but got quite chatty when I mentioned my love of art.
He's into his tattoos big-style! Also loves the Club. Great bloke.

10 Jun 2016 00:04:09
I presented the Carlsberg man of the match award to Agger in the Carlsberg suite after a home game against Southampton. Took the time for a photo, shirt signed etc.

Top bloke.

10 Jun 2016 07:34:36
Good luck in the future Dagger! YNWA.

10 Jun 2016 07:58:48
The kind of bloke we should put through his coaching badges and give a job to.

10 Jun 2016 10:53:16
I was waiting for the first person to say that Agger should become a coach.

10 Jun 2016 23:39:18
I didn't say he should become our head coach, or even our U12s coach, however we know he was a damn fine defender so why wouldn't we take a punt on getting him to the level where he'd be allowed to coach in the PL and the utilise his skills? There is a lack of continuity
In football these days, Agger may, or may not turn out to be a great coach but his playing skills suggest he may be worth a look.

09 Jun 2016 19:20:03
Just wanted to wish Daniel Agger all the best for the future. I was sad to see him go and he never seemed to get a fair shake. Sure others will disagree with that but that's life.

One of my favourite ever of our players. Was so gutted when he left, 31 seems young to be retiring, I wonder why he took that option? Still, wish him all the best, hopefully see him in the crowd at Anfield soon.

09 Jun 2016 17:36:24
Hi EDs,

Is there anyway I can put the photos up of Pardew and Benteke?

I have just looked at the odds (not reliable but still) and last week Palace were not mentioned, but at this moment they're 3-1 second fav.

Cheers,

Kosovo Joe.

09 Jun 2016 21:52:16
It would be brilliant if it came true now but i just don't see Palace forking out the money for him. I assume he'll probably have better offers elsewhere too so it'd still be very surprising to say the least.

09 Jun 2016 22:00:18
Why would they be together ed?

{Ed001's Note - he never said they were together, just in the airport at the same time.}

09 Jun 2016 22:39:43
Certainly interesting but I can't see it been anything, probably looking into it more than what we should.

09 Jun 2016 17:56:40
Reds

Its going to be a long old summer in relation to coutinho!
The windows not even open yet and he's had Barcelona and atletico players publically say he should move to their clubs. There's also confirmed interest from psg.

Klopp will need to work his magic to keep hold of the little magician.

Both Kolo Toure and Joao Teixeira are expected to be named on the released list tomorrow and Daniel Agger announced his retirement from the game today, I thought he was a great player.

Alright Eds and Reds,

Most of you are probably unfamiliar with me, I post fairly infrequently but visit every day.

I just wanted to ask a question; what is happening to us?

It used to be that we would really appreciate everything that the great players did for us; we would be grateful for their contributions and when they eventually left, we would greet them lovingly at every return.

Now the attitude is somewhat different. People rip into players before they have even left; ridicule players if they haven't adjusted to the league fast enough and actively call for their heads if they turn out to be not as good as we had hoped.

It's actually really sad. I'm 25 and when I was growing up, my dad told me all these stories about how great LFC fans were and I lapped them up! i wanted to be like them and do my part for the team. It seems like those days are gone.

I understand that sometimes it's frustrating; I understand that it's hard to keep our expectations in check. But we must. For the good of the fans, if not the team.

The mood on here recently has been pretty. tense.

So let's all try and lift the spirits a little? Of Couts goes, then let's give him thanks rather than kick him out the door. And if we sign new players, let's welcome them in rather than set them up for failure.

I think that will help us all.

Also, big thanks to the Eds who have made it impossible for me to abandon this site no matter how doom and gloom it got. Your information and interactions are very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Believable8 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - times have changed, everyone expects everything now, whereas in the past they had to work for stuff.}

09 Jun 2016 17:50:27
I think it's frustration and impatience at having to wait so long for a league title, and seeing man United overtake us.
We all heard the stories of how great we where, winning leagues, European cups etc.
thing is most of us have not seen any of this (apart from Istanbul) we only have the stories and the memories of the generation before us while watching medicocracy most of the time.
When Klopp gives us a hat trick of league titles and a couple more champions leagues and a few FA cups as well in the next few years we can go back to being less moronic and impatient ;)

09 Jun 2016 17:51:00
Ed001's generation crippled the housing market, and now we're all bitter and depressed because we are sleeping in our parents conservatories on a Sofa bed at 22 years old.

Oh, just me? Never mind.

{Ed001's Note - not my generation mate, my generation is doing the same thing. Well that could just be me from September....}

09 Jun 2016 18:27:29
Haha, I'll let you off then Ed.

I applied for council housing and they said until my Mrs gives birth I don't qualify as I earn too much. So I applied for a mortgage and got told I don't earn enough. So I looked to rent, and the cheapest 2 bed place close to my work is £800 a month. Basically the powers that be indirectly made me homeless. So me and my Mrs were just drifting for 6 months in between our parents places.

Until I found out you can buy a holiday home for £300 a month and own it inside 4 years. So I'll be partying on a holiday park for the next 4 years until I can sell the static home for £15k and put that down as a deposit on a house haha. Only issue is, you can't technically live there, you can just 'holiday' there for 49 weeks of the year. So for 3 weeks in need to go on an actual holiday and party some more haha!

Where there is a will, there is a way! And I refuse to pay rent and line the pockets of a greedy landlord! Purely out of principle. Rent prices are absolutely outrageous, but the UK government won't do a thing because the MP's all own a house in 15 different countries across 4 different continents!

The only place in the UK I could afford to get a house is Liverpool, but I put feelers out and there just wasn't any Industrial Engineering jobs up there! The witch is dead, but her legacy still lives on in the North.

Hope your housing issue is resolved when you return, and if you ever need a place to stay I have a free sofa, a 50 inch TV and a beer full fridge. Brrrp!

{Ed001's Note - rent is obscene here, that is why everyone shares.}

09 Jun 2016 18:40:11
@ exotiva : that's the truth brother. I have never seen a really successful Liverpool side but yes there have been some really good moments.

As the Ed's have said some of the off pitch decisions have brought our club to this stage.

I have no real dislike for Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham etc but once you wouldn't mention them in the same breath as Liverpool.

The times changed, they adapted and we did not.

If things go on like this we may be the last generation of a once huge Liverpool fanbase : (

But Klopp can really change that. which is why I have a huge respect for him.

Lets back him and our players to take us back to the top!

09 Jun 2016 19:47:01
Not to mention they had free higher education Adam.
Please spare a thought about this eds next time we say something stupid ;)

{Ed001's Note - I never had free higher education, I had to get a job the moment I left school.}

09 Jun 2016 23:10:53
+1 Exotiva. It is in adversity that true charcter is displayed.

09 Jun 2016 23:57:59
I blame the Internet. It gives a loud voice to the frail of mind.

10 Jun 2016 00:33:40
Successive generations have failed to tackle housing due to a mix of self interest and greed (I'm 49). Rents are determined by market conditions, not by landlords. I live in a well to do Cheshire village. New developments are proposed which local residents generally resist due to NIMBYism and the depressive effect on existing prices. Developers don't take into account local needs (amenities, shops, school places etc) and needless to say the plots don't include affordable housing. Fear drives my generation to hold on to property we inherit to pass on to our kids
Good luck MK and others. Even more so if Brexit happens and interest rates rise.

10 Jun 2016 09:12:33
I have been a Red for over 40 years so have lived through the unparalleled successful years plus the recent lows. One of the reasons I started following LFC was the knowledge, warmth and love of the crowd not only for our team but of football in general. I remember Jurgen Klinsman being totally blown away by the Anfield crowd after grabbing a last minute winner in the FA cup and the whole stadium rose to applaud a wonderful footballing moment despite the pain of loss. I loved watching opposing goalkeepers coming to Anfield for their first visit being totally confused as the Kop applauded him into his goal.

This attitude is in stark contrast to the bitter vitriol spouted on here by some so called fans who have NO footballing knowledge and certainly no class who think its alright to rip apart anyone from our club who they don't like, be it a player who has a bad game or even a manager who doesn't fit their profile. I can't agree with that at all, I won't support blindly and maybe glad to see certain individuals leave after they try and yes fail to live up to our standards but I will be thankful for their time and efforts and wish them luck in their future ventures (apart from when they come back to play us) and consign them to our history.

Remember even poor players or managers give us a memory and sometimes even contribute to a special moment such as Jan Kromcamp (who? ), part of the 2005/ 6 FA cup final team, he was part of the team that created the game that gave Stevie G the opportunity to score the best ever FA cup final goal. Our history is littered with players like him who might not be successful or even come close to being a true Liverpool player but they are part of our fabric and these type of players are needed to help us along on our journey regardless of their ability. So support them all as they are part of OUR team, OUR history and for me part of my life.

YNWA.

Hi ed, I posted this last night as a reply and was just hoping it could get posted again as a stand alone post so more people could see it. Strange how the 2 people who posted their disagreements couldn't give reasons or examples as to how I was wrong.

"He shouldn't be injured that much though" Yea, because you can choose when to get injuries. So one injury hit season and "this can't carry on" You're absolutely clueless! Never had issues with injuries before, might never have them again. Gerrard had a lot more injury problems than Henderson has had, since everyone seems so keen to compare them. The fact you think he has "the odd decent game" shows you don't understand the role he plays in the side. He's not there to hit shots from 40 yards into the top corner every game, but that's what you must expect. His first touch is excellent, good vision, technique and passing range, reads the game well, breaks up opponents attacks before they even start, superb crossing, if Sterling could finish Hendo would've had over 20 assists in Sterling's last year. His finishing does need work however, and can tend to overrun it at times.

He's also a very good leader! In Gerrard's last year we were leading 2-1 against West Brom in injury time and Gerrard had the opportunity to bring it into the corner and run down the clock further. Instead he chose to play the ball to Balotelli on the edge of the box who, yet again, failed to hit the target. Henderson roared at Gerrard, called him out for not taking the ball into the corner, something no-one had done for a couple of years, something our side lacks when he's out. He's never been bullied in midfield. He won't be bullied in midfield! Our record when he captains us speaks for itself.

He is our captain, and he will remain so, unless he decides he wants to move on, because there's no chance the club will want to lose him! It's quite shocking that people think he's not good enough when, at the moment, he's too good for us!

09 Jun 2016 16:22:07
Lol, we're u happy with your post and comments. Bless ya cottons.

09 Jun 2016 16:42:12
You I agree with everything you say about Hendo apart from his defensive work, I think he's defensively suspect but as a box to box midfielder he should be playing alongside a DM anyway and his crossing which can be suspect to say the least. Hendo is by far our most competent CM but his three main weaknesses for me are 1. Crossing (a weakness through the whole team) . 2. Defensively Suspect - could be more of a communication breakdown with Can, when they play together both push on too far forward together leaving big uncovered holes behind them, with not playing with a DM these become huge holes. 3. Corners and free kicks - irratic to say the least. This sounds a lot more negative than it is meant. I'm a huge Hendo fan, his enthusiasm, energy and love for the club. His passion and work rate is something else too not mentioning the points you make. Hendo, Mliner and Can as a trio just don't work for me though, they are far too similar. Grujic likes to play deep so Grujic Can and Hendo may work.

09 Jun 2016 16:53:12
Reposted it to try understand how people are so harsh on him Chris, very funny post though!
Natural poolie, obviously I disagree on the crossing side. On your second point I think the understanding between Can and Hendo had been progressing until his latest injury. I think if given time they can develop a good understanding allowing them to play in a 2 together. If another was need at the moment I would chose Lucas to join them.
I think his delivery from free kicks is good, wouldn't want him over it if it was a shooting chance though. Corners as a whole need work, attacking and defending.

09 Jun 2016 16:54:48
He's not "too good for us". There is no player in the world that is "too good for us".
Hendo did struggle when he came back from injury, I think that's where the criticism has come from.
When he's on form he's a very good midfielder. I don't know why so many people don't rate him, what do they want him to do?
I've no problem with him defensively, he hassles and harries with the best of them. I'm looking forward to him recapturing his pre-injury form.

09 Jun 2016 17:15:46
By "too good for us" you means (you as a username is a confusing choice) it relatively speaking Ron as in perhaps he could be playing/ good enough to be playing in a champions league prem side if he chose for example. I'm not saying he is or isn't that good of course keep that can of worms closed.

09 Jun 2016 17:43:57
Lol oh my god! don't get me started.

09 Jun 2016 17:51:31
He's orite. End of the day he's not even the best midfielder at the club that finished 8th in a massively under performing league and won't start for his national team, because he'll be kept out by Eric Dier who's 4 years younger than him.
Stop going on like he's Steven Gerrard. He's not even close.
He's no better than Emre Can who is way younger and new ish in England.

09 Jun 2016 18:11:05
5 years at the club. One stellar season under Brendan when he played as a typical B2B midfielder running up and down, covering players, pressing high. He was pretty much inside the opposition box along with Suarez and Sterling ( His goal against Spurs at WHL ) His runs from midfield to high up.

This is where he is brilliant and the best B2B player in the league.
An year later he was shorn to the deeper role which exposed his technical limitations.
Am I missing something?
He could be a carbon copy of Lampard. A goal scoring B2B midfielder. But some want him to be Michel Carrick instead.

My view on the player.

09 Jun 2016 18:48:18
Dbol, I wouldn't ever judge a player based on whether Roy Hodgson plays them. This is the man who thinks Wilshere, Walker, Rose, Milner, Welbeck and Townsend are good enough to play for England ahead of some actually good players.

This is the guy who puts Harry 'I want to shoot' Kane upfront with Wayne Rooney, and leaves players with technical ability and pace in behind on the bench or puts them in a wide midfield role (Sturridge, Vardy, Rashford etc. )

The guy is a wrinkly old fraud.

And yes I don't rate Kane because I'm sure that will draw questions from the media intoxicated sheep. He is an English Benteke. Terrible first touch, turning circle of a container ship, acceleration of a dead Tortoise, a conversion rate that could rival Stan Collymore's, awful link up play, unjustified arrogance and overconfidence, poor movement, when he does run he doesn't time it right or goes in the wrong direction, a good third of his club goals are penalties, and he's more greedy than Balotelli. He will score you 20+ goals a season, as will Benteke. But the detrimental effect they have on the overall team play isn't worth it. If Spurs can get a good striker to play in front of Delle Alli and Eriksen they will be scary going forward. I can't believe he starts ahead of quality like Sturridge and Rashford though, or that Roy puts Vardy out of position to accommodate him. Against Turkey, Kane could've put Vardy in on about 5 separate occasions, and the one time he did he hesitated for so long that by the time he released it, the gap in behind the defence had shrunk so much the keeper gathered his begrudged pass to his partner with ease. Awful player, awful team mate, but luckily for him he is a media darling because he worked hard on the training pitch and when he finally scores (more through trial and error than actual ability) they can be spectacular.

09 Jun 2016 19:38:25
@GameofThrons Lampard a Box to Box midefielder?! Haha

One selection box to another more like! All joking aside, him and Hendo are nothing alike, come on.

09 Jun 2016 15:22:24
Hi Ed's, my first post and this may be a difficult question to answer. I was wondering if there are certain player/ s at the academy that are seen as a huge prospect? I know it's difficult to answer as academy players that look good now may not make the grade by next year. My question is based on Gerrard's first book where he alludes to how good Michael Owen was at the academy and how everyone from the Directors to the Tea lady knew he was a different calibre. I was wondering if there is any player we have at the moment that is genuinely seen as the next Owen/ Gerrard.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - no, there is no one seen in that light there right now. They do not come along every year though. It is very rare to get them as close together as we had with Fowler/Owen/Gerrard. Usually they only appear once every ten or more years.}

09 Jun 2016 15:54:52
Thanks for the reply Ed.

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome mate.}

09 Jun 2016 16:00:50
Was gerrard originally considered in the same bracket as owen? He only became truly class in his mid 20's.

{Ed001's Note - he was always considered as better than Owen. He would have made his debut much earlier than he did but for an injury.}

09 Jun 2016 16:23:29
Wasn't one of Gerrard's first appearances as a central defender against Arsenal? If I have that right, is that where he was meant to play or was it just a one off?

09 Jun 2016 17:24:09
Hi debut was at right back, I forget the opposition but he replaced Veggard Heggum!

{Ed001's Note - he played defence a fair few times early on.}

09 Jun 2016 17:34:06
He broke in as a right back RedNick.

09 Jun 2016 21:57:36
Wasn't it against Spurs and didn't Davud Ginola give him the run around?

09 Jun 2016 23:07:33
I remember he, Danny Murphy and David Thompson came through around the same time. I wasn't overly impressed by Murphy, thought Gerrard would make a decent right back but thought Thompson was going to be something special. Shows how much I know about football.

10 Jun 2016 00:29:27
Ummm he was winning the champions league in his mid 20s dragging lfc by its collars. Only got good in his mid 20s. Remember inter being linked with him in about 2001 (so he'd be about 20-21) and houllier saying he'd want 40 million plus some players. Basically he was alway class, just his body was still developing, hence injuries.

09 Jun 2016 15:41:43
Hey eds,
Just a suggestion for you guys, I remember last year or the year before we had a macca page, I was thinking what about and eds rumours page, that way you guys you won't be hassled every day about every player we are linkied with, anything you guys post in their will be who we are genuinely looking at or interested in signing you could update us with any new info you have. Leave the normal page for any rumours people's vets or hairdressers are in the know about and you shouldn't be asked every day about all the lbs we are linked.

Just a suggestion keep up the good work guys and just to second what everyone else is saying we are lucky to have you.

Dev.

{Ed002's Note - It is not going to happen because it won't make any difference. Posts which are duplicates will just be deleted - people hae the search engine - they should use that.}

09 Jun 2016 14:28:41
I'm not for one moment advocating keeping him, but all the talk of a '20 goal a season' striker, given the amount of goals he got from the bench, I think Benteke would probably have hit 20 in all comps had he played more. Didn't he get 12/ 13 as a bit part player?
No point keeping such a financial asset on the bench but i think we place to much importance on '20 a season' strikers.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

09 Jun 2016 15:44:18
He did get goals, but he also limited our ability to create more chances. He was just not in good enough positions at times. Even when we tried playing to his strengths like putting balls into the box, I would see him outside the box while players like Joe Allen were getting ahead of him. I really don't think it will work out and he will be better off playing somewhere else where he can thrive.

09 Jun 2016 14:09:08
Ed 001 if you're about mate,
I remember a while back you said about Brazil only selecting marketable players, is there a good article or link to this or is it just common knowledge?
Thanks in advance.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - this is an old story, so I don't have any links off the top of my head though this is a good lead in: Brazil coaches being told who to pick - though it fails to mention the firm in question, it is pretty clear that the firm is Nike.}

09 Jun 2016 23:38:04
Much appreciated, as always.

09 Jun 2016 13:57:28
Hi All, I haven't really posted much recently as, without any football, there's not much to talk about and I struggle to keep up with the various transfer targets that crop up every day. There have been a few recurring themes so I'd thought I'd chime in on those.

1. Transfers in general - The window isn't even open yet and some people are already bemoaning our terrible summer. Please relax and wait until there's something to moan about. If we get to September and Klopp's boasting about how we've done really well to sign Zaha then you can b*tch as much as you want.

2. Couts - He's arguable our most talented player and still has not peaked, we should hope he can be convinced to stay because we will not improve the team by replacing him. On the other hand if he doesn't want to be here and he can't be relied upon to perform next season then we have to move him on. I'll trust Klopp to get this one right.

3. Spreading Rumours - I love seeing the random names that come up but if you write something as if it's a fact please include its source. You don't need to be specific but 'I read in the media', 'His agent is my brother-in-law ' or 'My dog's vet told me' all help us judge the veracity of your claim (shout out to Kosovo Joe at his airport) .

4. Agger - A legend whose body couldn't keep up with his talents. Memories of his left foot will keep me happy for years.

5. Ownership - FSG can't be faulted, if they do decide to sell I hope the new owners are as generous as they are.

I'll mostly be hanging out on the Euro 16 page for the next month, cannot wait for the tournament to start.

Two rumours in one day it's a record!

So I was browsing the web and stumbled across a German site. I didn't even realise two human beings could do that.

Sorry it was a German footy site really. My German is not great but it was heavily linking us with a under 21 German called Alfy Wiedersehen. Like I say my German isn't perfect but in my eyes roughly translated he looks like a good buy.

I'm here all day!

I remember years ago when we were heavily linked with Lakov Tekkez from the Russian league, we defo dodged a bullet there. YNWA.

09 Jun 2016 12:35:44
Just want to say a little bit on Daniel Agger's retirement from his playing career!

He truly is a gentleman of the game. Long-term users of this site will be aware of the offers he rejected from the likes of Barcelona because of his love for Liverpool and I for one would be the first to proclaim my admiration for him!

He had a truly wonderful time at our club, and although his only major trophy was the League Cup (and the Community Shield), he will long be remembered by many a supporter. He deserved the Premier League title, having finished 2nd with us twice in 2009 and 2014. He came so close and deserved more!

He was an exceptional player when he wasn't injured. His knowledge and understanding of what was required of him at centre back was phenomenal, and of course he had a hammer of a left foot!

31 is no retirement age, even in football, but even so, I hold the greatest respect for one of my favourite players to ever grace the Anfield pitch!

Thanks Dagger!

Daniel Agger retires from football at the tender age of 31 only a league cup winners to show for all his time at Liverpool a class player comfortable coming out from the back something we've been missing for a while . Best of luck Daniel YNWA.

Believable10 Unbelievable1

09 Jun 2016 12:08:06
Indeed just read this YNWA Daniel. Eds I know there is no room for sentimentality in football but was he looking at coaching at all and would there be room for him in our back room staff? Just a thought though pie in the sky I realise!

{Ed002's Note - Sure, as long as you are willing to accept that Liverpool's performances and results will continue to be average because the club is cluttered with old players rather than people who can do the job that is necessary.}

09 Jun 2016 12:37:03
I wonder do people still think we should bring him back, he would definitely walk straight into our back four. :D.

09 Jun 2016 12:36:32
Spot on ed002 and good luck to Agger YNWA.

09 Jun 2016 13:06:29
Thank you Ed I did try to caveat my question but to no avail :-) I suppose I asked for it.

But you did touch on something. Is the club really a bit too sentimental regarding the employment of staff in this respect and is that holding the club back? And if so is there any evidence that this is being addressed?

{Ed002's Note - The club is very poorly run financially and whilst there is no problem having ex players work with youth and loan players etc., you don't throw them in to critical coaching positions simply because they once played for the club.}

09 Jun 2016 17:45:59
How many players do we have in critical coaching positions?

09 Jun 2016 11:45:47
Enjoy the Euro's guys. Legitimate transfer news will be at a minimal (at the very most), don't believe everything you read in the papers or on twitter. Plenty of ins and outs after that though so for though obsessed with signings, you better get the lube ready.

Cheers.

Wish him all the best in his retirement. Be that in TV or coaching, or on a yacht in the Caribbean. He earned my unconditional love and respect.

As your knuckles say, YNWA!

09 Jun 2016 08:19:35
Saw the match and brilliant hattrick for Phil. First and third goals were typical Coutinho strike.
The fact is we wouldn't replace Phil's quality and that's a fact. We might receive money from his sale as people wish but would never buy a settled player like Coutinho.

I mean if the Big people behind the scenes couldn't convince a settled Coutinho to believe in your project, How on earth would they convince Gotze or another name to Liverpool?

We should put up a No sale board and build a team around him else its another 6 months oif settling into new system and more transitional activities until the next major player moves in 12 months.

Thanks.

Coutinho is a great player. But don't forget we tempted him to Anfield with no Champions league, and a manager who's only notable achievement on his CV was finishing 10th in the Prem with Swansea.

When we appointed Klopp everyone was excited because he unearths hidden gems, and gets the best out of young players, to develop them in to world class stars. He doesn't historically make big signings.

Let him do what he made a name for himself doing. We don't need to spend £40m on a replacement for Coutinho. We probably will because we over pay for people, but if West Ham can sneak under the radar for Payet, Swansea can pick up Sigurdsson from Tottenham, Leicester can pluck Mahrez out of nowhere, and STOKE CITY (! ) under MARK HUGHES (! ) can tempt Bojan away from BARCELONA (! ) and sunny Spain, then I am going to have a little bit of faith that Liverpool with Klopp as manager still has a little bit of pulling power!

Stop being a scare mongering doom Sayer, and have a little faith buddy ;) xoxo.

09 jun 2016 06:29:35
3 players liverpool should buy:

1. jonathan viera: 26 years lm fast
dribbler. he is far stronger than coutinho. he
scored 10 goals for las palmas in the
spanish la liga. he is cheap (las palmas got
him for €900,000).

2. pizzi: 26 years old too. versatile central
midfielder. he is currently playing for benfica
and portugal national team. he can also play in
right midfield.

3. ricardo rodriguez: brilliant left full back. he
plays for wolfsburg in german bundesliga.

Believable0 Unbelievable10

09 Jun 2016 11:46:57
Ricardo Rodriguez is basically just Alberto Moreno but with a better attacking output. Would rather us sign an actual defender for a left back.

09 Jun 2016 11:48:36
Never heard of the first two guys so can't comment.

Ricardo Rodriguez is about as 'good' defensively as Moreno though. He just offers more going forward and takes a good set piece. For the amount Wolfsburg want he is a terrible signing. Best comparison I can make is a left sided Kyle Walker. Good offensively and a physical specimen, but non existent in his own half due to a complete lack of tactical awareness. No thank you, but thanks for you FIFA16 scouting shortlist.

09 Jun 2016 03:30:04
Ricardo Rodriguez is a good buy if liverpool could get him to sign. He is very brilliant at LB.

Hey Ed002, any movement on that deal for Schwanz Bälle?

He provides exactly the sort of penetration we need to bust open tight defences!

Only problem I have have is he is inconsistent. 1 game he is a right softie, getting bullied. The next he is rock hard, running the show. 1 game he goes the full 90 minutes. The next he is spent after 30 seconds.

Apparently he is a bit of a bell end off the pitch as well.

09 Jun 2016 12:17:47
I just hope we stay professional and don't tap this lad up.

I'd hate to think that Schwanz Bälle is so desperate to leave Dortmund that he is willing to go through the back door and end up in the SH! T.

09 Jun 2016 12:45:09
LOL! Excellent!

09 Jun 2016 18:25:24
He has been benched of late and not been used much at all. Its been reported that he prematurely exited the tunnel during his last game due to being blue with rage.

09 Jun 2016 10:31:06
Am not understanding all the negativity around Henderson. He always strikes me as a player who gives 100% when he plays, plays to a very good standard across all aspects of his game ( shooting aside) actually wants to be at Liverpool and doesn't have one eye on the exit door and being Captain really means the world to him. If these are reasons to get rid. i must be missing something.

If PSG have as much money as they say they do why don't we really test their mettle and just ask for say £100m?

I do not want us to sell coutinho. Although coutinho has said he wants to leave i am sure the club can convince him.

We have a world class manager, a wide open league next season with other managers bedding in, and we have clearly been improving. Coutinho is loved by our fans. Why on earth would he want to move to PSG aside from Paris and France in general being a lovely place?

He'd end up going the same way as lucas moura, he isn't that good yet. He'd be on the bench, wasting away his career, in a ridiculously easy league - all for what, getting to the champions league quarter finals every year? It just doesn't make sense to me.

We have been good to coutinho and if he improves to luis suarez levels then yes i can understand why he would want to leave, but right now, i just don't understand it - he just isn't that good!

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - he would walk into their side.}

09 Jun 2016 10:15:06
I'd be gutted if he left.

09 Jun 2016 10:18:43
You want the club to pull out all the stops and convince him to stay but "he just isn't that good".
Sorry, I don't get it.

He's very good, too good for PSG and Ligue1.

09 Jun 2016 10:24:51
The club and fans should be doing everything in their power to make him stay atleast another season.

09 Jun 2016 10:36:16
I disagree dwarfonaboat. The club should show him the respect he has shown us and let him leave if that is what he wishes.

He will earn more money and play at a higher level, whilst winning titles.

We will get a massive fee for him to sign a player who wants to be here.

It's win-win. You can try and talk him out of leaving, but you should never refuse to let a player leave.

I personally think football contracts should be abolished and replaced with standard non-contract salaries that give them the freedom to change jobs as frequently as they like with no transfer fees necessary. It will eliminate the need for poisonous agents, and stop football clubs spending such vast sums of money every year. It will never happen, but if I wanted to quit my job tomorrow and go and move to Paris to find work, I could. Coutinho doesn't have that freedom, and that is fundamentally well paid slavery. The fact people are still seen as property in the 21st century is disgusting.

09 Jun 2016 11:17:34
Okay maybe i didn't explain myself very well.

Coutinho is very good but inconsistent, yet arguably our best player. He is not the finished article and imo has lost his way from a couple of seasons ago, trying too hard.

I think its in his best interests and ours that he stays, just look at sterling, 'champions league football' didn't get him anywhere did it?

Coutinho is good but not indespensable. I think it would only be a matter of time before PSG bought another flash name for attacking mid and then coutinho would be forced out of the team.

However he could stay another year with us, continue improving and leave when he is a fully formed player that could walk into any side. For example, do you think rakitic would have been as important to Barcelona if he had moved there when he was 22? Absolutely not. Coutinho has star quality but a long way to go and is too important to us in the short and long run to let go, it would benefit nobody in footballing terms.

09 Jun 2016 11:24:05
I'm not sure I agree we have a "wide open" league either. If city continue on the path they appear to be taking they'll walk it, peps first year or not. I do think we have a decent shot at getting top 4, if we stop selling our best players eg coutinho!

09 Jun 2016 11:57:40
I think you underestimate Coutinho's ability Woolback. He will walk into that PSG side ahead of Moura, Lavezzi, Pastore etc. With Ibra leaving they need a new galáctico (or galactique 😉) . They are Frances answer to Real Madrid and with Ibra gone, Coutinho goes in there with the chance to become the new face of PSG. Which he will do in my opinion. That league gives attackers so much time on the ball. And we saw last night vs Haiti how much damage he does when given time and space. Hazard bagged 30 goals in that league and I wouldn't put it past Coutinho to do the same.

09 Jun 2016 12:44:32
well said MK scouser, little phil would have a title medal in the bag by December, there is no title race to speak off, no the owners of psg are desperate to win the champions league that's why they will be linked with players like countinho, hazard and even Ronaldo, even if they don't sign anyone they are so far in front of everyone else its embarrassing, its just the Scottish league but being played in france with better players as they can afford the higher wages.

09 Jun 2016 09:35:34
Thanks ed1
Who then would you like to see as our left back signing? I know Chilwell is who we're looking at. Would he be your choice?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I have not seen enough to judge him, but he couldn't be worse than other suggested options I have seen, all of which have failed to impress me.}

09 Jun 2016 10:36:41
I have seen him in person during his very brief spell at Huddersfield Town on loan last season, under their manager David Wagner.

He is certainly a talented left back. Whilst the Championship is not as high a level as will be needed if he is to arrive at LFC, Chilwell impressed!

Defensively, he was rarely caught out of position - he seems to be tactically aware.

He tends to arrive forward later than many full backs nowadays but that could be down to Wagner's playing style when he first arrived at Huddersfield as he slowly but surely implement the pressing game. When he does go forward, however, he was well involved in attacks, and did create a few chances in his 8-game spell in Yorkshire. No goals or assists to his name, but I wouldn't judge that too much for a defender!

He's not afraid of a challenge and seemed to work well with his teammates despite not being at the club too long.

I personally rate him very, very highly, and would be more than pleased to see him arrive for between £4-8m depending on who you believe regarding price tags. He's a future England left back for sure in my view.

09 Jun 2016 10:58:55
Thanks Ed, last question on this thread I promise!
Do you think we've got enough in our squad without coutinho to make top 4?
not saying I want him to leave by the way. Great player.

{Ed001's Note - yes, but we would have a much better chance with him.}

09 Jun 2016 12:34:26
Thanks Ed.

{Ed001's Note - welcome.}

09 Jun 2016 09:46:10
There's a great reply from a poster called "You" on Banter 2. Would implore everyone to read it.

Sums up exactly why we miss Henderson. His leadership and game management wouldn't have let us throw that Europa League final in such a capitulating fashion.

A great midfielder, a great captain, and I hope that one day he is regarded as a Liverpool great for lifting our first league title of the century.

09 Jun 2016 10:23:36
Well said MK Scouser.

We've certainly missed a fully fit Hendo this season. Hopefully his injury problems are behind him now and we'll see our Captain at his best again for the new season.
Also, his conduct on and off the pitch makes him a great role model for our younger fans.
I just wish some supporters would stop constantly comparing him to Gerrard.
Hendo has no boots to fill. only his own, which he does very well.
Long may he continue to be our Captain.

09 Jun 2016 10:37:43
Jurgen, we all know you want to replace him with Dahoud. It's cool. I don't hate you, I just think you are wrong ;) I'm sure the feeling is mutual!

09 Jun 2016 15:11:18
That's fair enough mate lol who knows who's right, we all have our opinion. I hope I'm 100% wrong on mine :) time will tell. He's part of Liverpool so part of me will always back him! Good luck to the lad.

09 Jun 2016 03:49:32

Morning Eds, long time no post from me.
If PSG are willing to pay £50m for David Luiz from Chelsea would like to think we'll get £60+ for coutinho.
If he goes Eds and especially Ed1 who would you like to see come in to replace him?
Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced we need to go out and replace him personally. I just do not see who out there we could get that can replace him. I would like to see us give Branagan etc more chances to become the long term replacement. The money needs to be spent at left back as the priority.}

09 Jun 2016 09:02:39
I can see us bottom half of the table next season if we use the same approach as when we sold Suarez.
'Strengthen in other areas' in other words 3 over priced 20 million pound average players again.

09 Jun 2016 09:06:44
Controlling midfielder edd i'd say . That's vital . Someone to dictate the play . Neither why we have now can do that. An Alonso type or similar . Quite like Dahoud or paredas . Them sorts.

09 Jun 2016 09:07:16
I couldn't agree more, Ed001. I don't think we should sell Coutinho at any price. I mean, he has multiple years left on his contract. There's plenty of time to sell him later on.

Right now, as a mid-table side with no CL, we can't seem to get deals for many of our top targets across the line. If we cannot land a very young target like Dembele, who has a modest price tag, there's no way we can use any amount of money to land someone near Phil's quality.

If we end up selling Coutinho for 40m and use 30m of it on Mane. what a disaster.

09 Jun 2016 09:13:38
It was always going to happen with coutinho he's that good of a player and now I'm more worried for next season.

{Ed002's Note - That an he shared his desire to leave to play at a higher level with three international coleagues before Christmas.}

09 Jun 2016 09:37:03
I'm with ed001 on this he doesn't need replacing that part of the squad needs majorly trimming down. Consistency is a problem with all our current options not quality. Branno deserves game time.

Spend the money where it needs spending.

Left back and wingers is all we need now and have always needed. As well as replacing Mignolet.

Then trim the squad right down and add some quality in future windows.

09 Jun 2016 10:03:22
DBol- Coutinho is nowhere near as influential as Suarez or as consistent. Bottom half would be worse than this season, a season where we've had multiple long term injury problems a crazy fixture pile up and a change of manager.
It is very unlikely to be worse next season with or without Coutinho.
I'm not happy about Mané but I can see he's a good player. Maybe we're selling Markovic for £20m and replacing him with Mané? I'm not impressed with Karius but he has time to adapt his game. I'm struggling to work out why we bought Grujic. I do like Matip though.

At the end of the day no-one knows how transfers will work out. Many thought Lallana would be great and Milner would replace Gerrard. Many thought Benteke would be a 20-goal a season monster for us. Some thought Joe Allen would be a regular for us. Others panned the likes of Origi because he had a rubbish season in France.

A new manager needs to build his own squad, so I will let Kloppo get on with it. A bit of confidence, regular football and who knows what these players will do, but don't give up on next season in June! Get behind them.

09 Jun 2016 10:15:47
Stop making sensible well thought out posts Ron that's not what this site is for!

{Ed001's Note - more to the point, when did Ron become sensible??? He must have had a bang to the head which knocked some sense into him!}

09 Jun 2016 12:40:36
Sorry lads, the heat is getting to me 😎.

09 Jun 2016 06:59:44

09 Jun 2016 10:05:06
What's everyone's beef with Coutinho?
Been a very good player for us, never caused us any problems on or off the field. He wants to play CL football.

Good luck to him if he leaves. He'll get a big cheer from me if he ever returns as an opponent.

{Ed001's Note - well said Ron, that was how it always used to be, unless the player left under a cloud ala Mascherano. Strange how people are so keen on sending out love for him, yet want to have digs at Couts.}

09 Jun 2016 10:19:47
Spot on Ron. Got nothing but respect for the lad whether he leaves or stays, great player with a great future.

09 Jun 2016 11:29:46
Yeah, I absolutely don't want him to go but you can't blame the lfc for wanting to play champions league, he's well contracted so we'll get a good fee. This it what makes the Europa final all the more painful, never mind missing out on signings losing our best players is the biggest issue. The list of players we could lose is dwindling with every season however and that is a very worrying assessment of the quality of player we currently have.

09 Jun 2016 06:55:53
A stupid question ed but do you expect Coutinho will leave this summer?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I never expect anything mate, but it does seem likely as PSG will have no issues matching our value of him sadly.}

09 Jun 2016 07:23:48
Ok mate cheers. Sad news imo. Our valuation of him is less than Sterlings fee i take it.

I guess it meens we will replace him?

{Ed001's Note - not like for like, but we are trying to sign players for the wide areas.}

09 Jun 2016 07:48:14
What's the club's valuation of Couthino Ed1, surley more than Sterling?

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I really do not want to get into that at all. It is really of no consequence to us.}

09 Jun 2016 08:07:20
No probs, understand it's something you don't want to discuss on here for obvious reasons. I just hope we get maximum value for him.

Being a red for over 30years, I've certainly found the last 12 years or so very frustrating. We never seem to keep hold of our star players.

If you look at the top and most successful clubs, they build a team, then add 1or 2 quality players each season, keeping the consistency, whilst improving where
necessary. Whereas we just make wholesale changes season after season with fairly average players.

{Ed001's Note - we do need a clearout though, so it does mean another summer of changes, sadly. Though I agree with you.}

09 Jun 2016 08:36:33
Much as it pains me to lose our better players, once they've decided to go then they're as good as gone. This happens at every club except for Real or Barca, not just Liverpool. If we get a fee similar to what City paid for Sterling then we shouls just see it as good business and hope that Ibe, Ojo, Markovic, etc can step up.

09 Jun 2016 09:03:32
I would tend to agree johnny, but we kept hold of Suarez for an extra season and almost won the title. I'm not saying Coutinho could bring us the title, just that I respect it when a club stands their ground and says "he's not for sale". That said, I think he is hot and cold. Great when hot, absent when not. Why has he looked so good the last few games for Brazil? Is it because he's surround by quality?

09 Jun 2016 09:17:38
It's because they see selling a player for top price to use that money for summer targets. If that wanted to win the leauge u would not sell your best players ever season and replace than with young players or players who don't fit the manger stayle. Not having a go.

Hey eds, just wanted to say thanks for all your work, funny how the transfer windows hasn't even opened yet eh? Haha.

More for Ed 01, was wondering your take on the current crop of LFC youngsters and their attitude and who have the right mentality to make it? I know this is subjective but you say players (such as mane as an example) have terrible mentality although ability, are there players like that? Are Ibe, Ojo, Stewart, Chirrivella and co players that have not only ability but mentality?

Vague question I know but was just curious on any insight you had, cheers.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - well Ibe spent last summer, while everyone else was away on holiday, training with Dalglish, so clearly he has a good attitude. Stewart has shown an excellent attitude, hence why he was brought in, and continues to work hard to make an impression. Chirivella was given a chance because he had a good attitude.}

Congrats to coutinho for hat trick vs haiti. PSG will need to increase their bid drastically if they are serious about buying.

09 Jun 2016 08:48:32
Yeah but it was haiti, its like brazil playing against preston north end it was always going to be a cricket score. Some perspective needed i think.

With regards to coutinho, he is an excellent player who will play well for a top team with good players around him. But he is not irreplaceable and i wish him all the best should he leave.

09 Jun 2016 00:20:02
Just a general shout out to all here rubbishing linked players - grown the hell up. Mahrez cost £400k and was unplayable last season; Vardy was non league a wet week ago. I don't want to see us splurge on players for the sake of it; we've done that for 20 years and got nowhere. I believe Klopp is a large improvement in our standard of managers of recent years; we have good owners; can we not just let them do their jobs and judge them at the end of next season?

I don't care who else buys who over the Summer; it's irrelevant to us; City spent hundreds of millions and Leicester still stuffed them. We cannot compete at the very highest level financially at the moment so we have to buy smarter so please stop with the "he's not good enough for us" bull and just support who ever is signed.

Believable13 Unbelievable4

09 Jun 2016 01:26:17
I do agree we are not in the same universe as city Chelsea or utd in transfer budget. so we have to box clever. With a small portion of hope in each transfer. aka not the finished article. But if any manager in the world has form on this it's klopp. I for one love the man. I think he just makes me want to run through a brick wall for him from his public interviews. so I can only imagine the motivation from inside the camp. We are in for a roller-coaster next season and I cannot wait. ynwa.

09 Jun 2016 07:23:12
That's not the point mate, we're spending huge amounts on average players. £400k is fine, but we're quoted £30m.

09 Jun 2016 07:53:50
Yes they cost small money but they started the season as relegation/ mid table team 1 or 2 good games would have been a good season no pressure if they failed to win the league they get a good job lads you tried not like a big club where there is massive pressure week in week out and players fail.

09 Jun 2016 08:04:29
It's the constant bleating about every player Ron; if we were getting Messi for 20m you'd have some morons in here claiming he's finished and we're buying a pup; or he's not what we need or Johnny Foreigner from FIFA is far better. I'm just sick of reading it day in day out. I went through the other "Rumours" sites as I thought Ed002 at times was overly harsh on LFC fans but you know what he/ she/ it isn't half hard enough; you just don't have some of the vitriol about clubs own players on other sites that we have here. This is the best LFC site hands down but the volumes of "fans" abusing players/ owners/ our Manager here is way above what another site has. I for one am very happy with our business to date; a big strong young keeper; a young dominant talented centre mid; a physically imposing centre back and we're looking at at least 1 new left back.

Mate its what the site is for, to talk about linked players, the club etc. If ya don't like what some posters have to say just skip right on past.

Ron is also right, i would question all day long the purchase of certain players with big price tags that are just not value. Considering the purchases we have made to date i too am happy and would like to see more similar low priced deals for high potential players ala coric or dahoud but we just have to wait and see what transpires.
