**e***** here dont think thet by being quiet arsenal are not going to buy players watch them swoop on some of our targets downing mata ect {Ed002's Note - Mata seems to be fans target rather than the clubs.}

Adam, Henderson, Downing and Carrol not good enough for LFC. Suarez must be looking at these acqusitions and thinking he has made a mistake. Sad, but we must admit this is true I'm afraid

{Ed009's Note - Please, please, please stop posting the same thing all night about Lennon. You know who you are and it will not be posted again.}

i don't have any genuine sources but i was suggesting possible targets to my staffy baggins today whilst sorting my transfers on fifa11 and when i said about bastos he just grumbled, i then asked if i should bid on lisandro lopez and he went mad so on these grounds i think bastos is a 5/10 and lisandro lopez is 7/10

cheers fester and baggins

we should go for adam J cos he was a squad player last season and will fall farther down the pecking order and if he wants to play1st team ftbl he should leave mc he would be a better option for us age price etc than downing IMO

surely if we r gonna pay over the odds 4 downing , pay the money valencia want 4 mata.NO DOUBT USE UR BRAINS N INVEST.if we can get him 4 near the price of downing snap the boy up.INVEST

09 Jul 2011 23:06:27
Eds, you keep saying if Villa keep messing us around with the Downing fee & Adam Johnson becomes available we'll go for him instead. What if we finally sort out the Downing deal then Adam Johnson becomes available. Any chance of us getting both? {Ed009's Note - it of course isn't as black and white as that, but it is what I believe could happen. I would suggest it is unlikely we will get both, simply because there are so many different permutations of the situation, but it is of course possible.}

09 Jul 2011 23:00:18
Wats the deal with brad jones personnel issues, living in California out of touch with details? {Ed009's Note - his son has cancer and for that reason he has been allowed to leave on a free. Family, of course, comes before football.}

Ed where has that Adam O'K ;) YNWA guy go ? I quite liked his posts . Any ideas Ed ? cheers . {Ed009's Note - I'm sure he'll be back, unless he actually was the O'Keefe that Liverpool signed and he has starte pre-season.}

09 Jul 2011 21:55:43
just found out fenway sport ventures also own roma interestin ?? {Ed009's Note - Thomas DiBenedetto is not a major player in anything related to Liverpool, the clubs are run by completely different people.}

The Aquaman going to Sunderland has to be nonsense. He doesn't want to play in England for the greatest team in England why would that even be a possibility in Anyones head?

09 Jul 2011 21:52:33
{Ed009's Note - back up because Jones won't be playing for Liverpool next season.}

I know the lad has personal problems that are fairly well known & i like everyone wish him & his family well.
Ed or anyone, do you know if he is retiring or just moving club?
Cheers,
Irish Kev. {Ed009's Note - I'm not sure. I believe he is being allowed to leave on a free, but is still training with the club at the minute. For me that would suggest he a willingness to continue playing football somewhere else, perhaps in Australia where he could be closer to his family?}

To the poster who wants to stop us the fans using K.K in posts to describe King Kenny for short for fear of getting mixed up with Kevin Kean is a pure Texan .Dont think anyone will get mixed with people using K.K and Kevin Kean. I'm sure if anyone wants to post about him, the'll more then likely use Kevin Kean just like fans call Steve Clarke by his name and dont describe him as S.C. Only a f***in tool would be so pedantic as to bring up something as petty as that, especially when 99% of posts on here call King Kenny K.K anyhow you spanner. Jonson6

Hi ed, great site. My heart is not with downing signing but I could see him working in a way.(English and would fight for the team). Team spirit is massive for a team, exactly how the scum managed to win the league last year, not world class players in every position but they all fought for the team.

Would love to see adam j join from city, rate him highly. Need to ship players badly, cause at the moment we have 7 plus centre mid players.... Crazy.

Stew. (Eire)

Ed,
given our financial stability and lack of debt these days, can you please assure us that the canteen at Melwood no longer charges the players for meals after a hard 2 and half hours on the training pitch ?
£2.55 for jacket tatie with a filling of your choice ?
Are they having a giraffe ?
The Real KB {Ed009's Note - I hear they have introduced giraffe as a filling, I presume its Comolli's continental influence.}

What do you think liverpools starting eleven against Man Utd in October will be? Considering transfers.

09 Jul 2011 21:43:37
i don't see why people are saying its either downing or mata not both, we need at least 2 wingers, because we have none. I've been quite surprised not to of heard about any interest in ibrahim afellay

09 Jul 2011 21:43:16
Keep it up Dalglish. Keep signing average players like Adam and Henderson, you'll have Liverpool relegated in no time. Us United fans are behind you Klown Kenny. Take them down

Damien Comolli says they will sign someone "who will rock the premier league" who do you think it is?

I reckon it could be a £22million Juan Manuel Mata or if we get a wage bill down, a £32 million Sergio Aguero.

09 Jul 2011 21:40:03
Ed could you rate the chance of us signing the following, higuin, lavezzi, cavani, sturridge, lukaku, benzema, rossi, aguero? {Ed002's Note - 1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1.}
---------------------

So you're telling us there's a chance lol?
Wow - i'd be delignted if they all came lol
To be honest i'd run naked through the streets if we got any of them - should be subjected to that i know lol
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

Word coming from north of the border of a return to Liverpool for El Hadj Dioff. Kenny admires his fighting spirit. You heard it here first.

09 Jul 2011 21:22:08
Their is a reason why Dalglish is hunting down Downing and he will be an LFC player sooner or later. DC and KD have done their homework and Downing ticks all the boxes. We need someone who can play on the left of midfield, has a killer cross to supply Carroll and is able to score goals himself plus he has EPL experience so the risk on the 15-20mil that we will be spending is less on paying 15-20mil on a player abroad. Why is there so much negativity towards the guy? He was by far the best winger in the EPL last season.

09 Jul 2011 21:22:02
as wolves are reportedly interested in konchesky i reckon liverpool should offer konchesky +£12m for Matt Jarvis as he is a LW and is a cheaper & IMO better option thn Downing plus Maxi is now #11 so he cud hav the #17 jersey

09 Jul 2011 21:17:26
apparently roy hodgsons first signing is going to be aa goalkeeper has anyone got a pair of gloves to lend konchesky

09 Jul 2011 21:12:40
i think we should just stick wit aurelio with konchesky as backup as aurelio is quality wen fit & imo konchesky is underrated as he gets the job done

09 Jul 2011 21:11:53
Hope we sign scott dann for 3 reasons.no 1 He is a very good footballer, he can play from the back and he can defend and is only 22 yrs old could be there for years.no 2 he is liverpool born a liverpool so he knows what its all about.no 3 he has the same surname as me(no relation) and it would be an honour too see that name on a liverpool shirt playing in the premier league..(RD.RED)

09 Jul 2011 21:05:20
according to opta 135 - Stewart Downing has completed more crosses in open play than any other player in the Premier League over the last three seasons. Whip.

09 Jul 2011 21:03:47
adam johnson will not sign for us city might be stupid, but they aren't going to sell one of there few home grown players

09 Jul 2011 21:02:01
Hello everyone, a question for Macca and the eds :)

Do you have any info on Meireles staying/leaving and Aquilani staying/leaving?

Thanks, take care.

oh na na {Ed009's Note - Meireles wants to leave and there is interest from various clubs in Spain as far as I know. Aquilani has struggled to find a buyer for a fair price and if Meireles goes we could perhaps see him stay.}

09 Jul 2011 20:57:14
Why are we not upping our interest in Mata? If we don't get him it will be very bad business from Commoli and KK. {Ed009's Note - we can't buy every player who is good. I don't know what to say other than to trust Kenny.}

09 Jul 2011 20:12:07
Why do we need doni? Reina is 26 and class?? {Ed009's Note - back up because Jones won't be playing for Liverpool next season.}

09 Jul 2011 20:45:40
Hey
Ed can you confirm that lamela went for 1.5m pound which is very low.can u pls confirm the same.he is very talented and liverpool were interested.
Regards
Red indian {Ed009's Note - he was never going to move to Liverpool, or any English club for that matter. The player was under ownership by a third party which is illegal in England. I believe he cost 12 million euros.}

Rumours page please eds : )

All I can say is if we get Bastos I will be pretty happy Excellent player capable of playing all down the left side Bale-esque and is only a year older than Downing. His left foot is an absolute beast, long range FK specialist, great feet and pace, and would tighten his defensive game up further with Clarke etc

Would much rather Bastos for up to 14 million rather than Downing for 20 million.

The A man

09 Jul 2011 20:34:11
Evening all,

There's been a lot of talk about The reds need for width and I certainly agree with regards to the left hand side but the way I see it the right is sorted. Johnson is quick enough to get to the byline and can cross very well so I wouldn't be surprised to see gerrard or hendo (both of whom can deliver a good ball) on the right looking to hit early crosses with Johnson overlapping.

Alternatively Johnson could play as an out and out winger with Kelly at RB.

Personally I can't wait for next season and I'd like to say Charlie Adam welcome to Liverpool YNWA.

09 Jul 2011 20:25:55
£20 million for Downing is like paying £25million for Milner its ridiculous i dont think he is worth 12million tbh.
there are way better options out there :
Turan - 14mil
Menez - 12mil
Bastos - 14mil
N'zogbia - 10mil
Jeffren - 8mil
Boudebouz - 9mil

I just think Downing is weak, not the fastest but he can cross a good ball .

09 Jul 2011 20:07:08
I reckon bastos would be a great signing for left back despite his age given that in a few seasons robbo will be ready to take over at there. Bastos can also cover left wing when needs be from a main signing for that position, personally id love mata as ive wanted us to sign him for years.

09 Jul 2011 19:54:45
Ed was Balazs Dzsudzsak a real target or just rumours ? because if he was how did we loose out to Anzhi Makhachkala who have completed the signing of midfielder Balazs Dzsudzsak on a four-year coantract from PSV Eindhoven. He has previously been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Hamburg, Juventus and Lille as well as liverpool.
CL x {Ed009's Note - We didn't make an offer and they did. I don't think he was ever a serious target and the player's logic behind the move is probably that he doesn't want to go straight from the Dutch league to a top league.}

09 Jul 2011 19:49:50
I am totally with FSG policy but this window we do need some finished products.. It's good to have youngsters and build a team but experience is also important. I believe Bastos is just what we need combined with a good solid premier league tested Defender.. we are good to go then...

09 Jul 2011 19:47:19
anybody have any idea whats going to happen this coming week regarding transfers? i know who id like in--Ryad Boudebouz/Bastos/Mata/Park Chu-Young/Bojan {Ed002's Note - Don't hold your breath.}

09 Jul 2011 19:32:36
Sorry to post so soon again, but i agree that we may play different formations next season like a previous porter stated.433, 352 and i think our default formation will be 442 with it being changed to suit different teams like when K.K out foxing Carlo A and the Chelsea team. But when fans put a starting 11 up i really am shocked how many fans dont see Martin Kelly as the number one right back at the club now, especially if we buy a centre half. In the post match interview of that Chelsea game were Glenn Johnson played leftwing back.K.K was asked a question about was Glenn Johnson happy to be playing on the left, and his reply was, its better then being substitue or very simular words to that effect. By that statement alone i think K.K thinks Kelly is the man for the right back spot . Can fans agree if they think Kelly or disagree if they think Johnson should be our starting right back. Please post Eds, should be an interesting result and any Eds opinion would be welcome. Thanks. Jonson6 {Ed009's Note - Kelly would definitely be my first choice, but I would play him at centre back next year a lot of the time, with Agger, as I don't believe Carra will be getting nearly as much game time.}

09 Jul 2011 19:30:11
i heard that liverpool are going to offer tottenham £22m + aquilani and cole for lennon

09 Jul 2011 19:28:00
Hey ed i rate downing but seems silly to me paying 20 mill when mata could come for not alot extra? Been reading on here he is not really a target an that maybe due to kk thinkin its a gamble an he has no prem experience but i really think we should take the gamble Look at suarez he's been phenominal an i fink mata would b the same an just click with the team do you agree? Skurks {Ed009's Note - I think he is a very good player but I trust Kenny, and I can see that Downing is more what Carroll needs. I think we should just wait and see now, because I don't think its as clear as it was a few days ago.}

09 Jul 2011 19:25:29
Villa fans think they are getting Johnson for 15M to replace Downing. {Ed009's Note - Adam? Really?}

09 Jul 2011 19:21:10
Ed how come nobody else got wind of a Bastos bid. Lyon ain't really good at hush hush dealing. {Ed002's Note - Well there is certainly one journalist who in Zell am See-Kaprun who knows about the story as well.}

09 Jul 2011 19:23:31
Right, i'm sorry this isn't going to be about liverpool directly, but it does have heavy relevance to all of us. Just wanted to comment on the whole news of the world fiasco - we all know how much I despise Rupert Murdoch, but this is just next level manipulation going on here.

How are so many people on the news and radio thinking that closing down the paper is ANY reconciliation for what THE DIRECTORS have perpetrated?

The police are investigating over 4000 cases of highly immoral privacy intrusions from News international (the parent company) - how could the board have not known that this was happening? The sheer volume of cases speaks to the fact that this was seen as a viable source of information gathering. UNTIL THEY GOT CAUGHT.

Now the solution is to sack the workers at the paper (who have no connection with these intrusions whatsoever) in order to make it look like they are taking some drastic cull on the industry, when in fact all of the directors and higher ups suffer absolutely no ill effects whatsoever. THIS IS A PR COUP. Nothing more. It's Rupert Murdoch making vain attempts to look as though he has some sort of moral candour.HERESY

REMEMBER THIS.....The guy authorised the tapping of a little murdered girl's phone while the investigation was still ongoing and deleted messages so that they could hear the new ones before anyone else(her family included)......to make money. When he already has BILLIONS of pounds.

I would like to make you aware that we are talking about the same man who is currently bidding to have sole control of 90% of the media in the uk. HE WILL CONTROL WHAT YOU BELIEVE. What you hear. How you hear it. When you hear it. If you hear it.

He will have the power to tell you if what you believe is true or not.

Be afraid.
Duckula

ps sorry eds, I'll understand if you don't post this, just had to get it out of my system. {Ed009's Note - Did you watch Newsnight last night? My favourite thing about the whole fiasco is Steve Coogan just ripping it out of a former Staff Writer. Loved every minute of it.}

09 Jul 2011 19:13:50
Any Eds please. If we did manage to sign Bastos, what sort of wages would he be on compared to the wages he's on in France. Is a well played player 60k a week plus for Lyon or less. Anyone know how much he's currently on a week? Jonson6 {Ed009's Note - The player is on around £70,000 a week as far as I know. He will not come cheap with regards to wages - that is for sure.}

09 Jul 2011 19:08:08
ED has there been a definate bid for Bastos or is it just speculation? If so how much and how much will Lyon be holding out for? -Mc {Ed002's Note - As I said first thing this morning, Liverpool have made a bid. I really don't know what Lyon will be looking for.}

09 Jul 2011 18:50:39
Ed's, is there any chance that Jovanovic to Anderlecht could be a bridge builder for a future Lukaku bid or even part of an offering for the striker? Not sure he'd want to be down the pecking order at Liverpool but just a thought as our club seem to be making good business decisions just now and this would be one of them.
Bear {Ed009's Note - it could well build up a good relationship with the club, but that would have little bearing on any eventual transfer in reality - money talks.}

09 Jul 2011 18:43:52
when are going to bid again for bastos {Ed009's Note - at 22:17:38 tonight. Lyon will answer the bid 49 seconds later.}

09 Jul 2011 18:39:41
Someone from this site has had some fun on Michel Bastos's wikipedia page...

"On 9 July 2011 Bastos passed his medical at Melwood, Liverpool, Securing his place in the team for the coming season."

Really lads? Hahaha

Take care eds,

Yikes

My guess is it has something to do with a fall out between player and aulas (spelling) after bastos stayed in brazil two days extra to see his family last year.

Just a query really... with KK and DC off on the Asia tour on Sunday... who is going to be around to sign the players? 'While the fitness of our current players will be at the forefront of manager Kenny Dalglish's mind, Director of Football Comolli has a busy schedule of trials and games to watch. DC told LFCtour.com: "We've organised things in China, organised games to watch, trials to watch, we'll watch young players, and it'll be very interesting for us to see what level there is'. Not much time for signing players? I suspect it could all go very quiet for a while {Ed002's Note - I expect efforts will continue on the Downing front.}

09 Jul 2011 18:10:11
i may b wrong ed but i thought lyon signed bastos 2 years ago for 18 million euro so how do we expect 2 get him so cheap {Ed002's Note - Your guess is as good as mine, but it is worth pointing out Lyon are not in great shape financially at present.}

09 Jul 2011 18:10:41
EDs do you think given the chance bastos would join liverpool..? {Ed009's Note - his favoured team is Juventus, but he would not say no to the chance.}

09 Jul 2011 18:06:32
Keep wishing but Everton are just NOT gonna sell Baines to us - neither with Arsenal do a deal with Walcott. Ain't gonna happen no matter what online rags are reporting. The Aquilani to Sunderland rumour seems ridiculous too. KD wants to have a look at Aquilani - and there's a possibility that both he and Joe Cole will stay as striker backups (deputising for Suarez in the hole). Meanwhile John Henry has been making cracks on Twitter about he and fans storming to get Juan Mata. He is obviously aware that this would be a very popular deal with the fans.

09 Jul 2011 18:05:06
Ed do you think we will move for a centre back as we tried really hard for jones, since then there hasn't been much talk of a cb it's obvious it's part of the plan otherwise we wouldn't have bid so high for jones?do you reckon we have a back up plan? Also I hope your wrong about us not going for a right winger because I think kk and dc are trying to build a squad in dept this season so not having an out and out rw would leave us short of options I think we might be very surprised with the amount of players we signwhat do you think? {Ed009's Note - I think we will possibly sign two wingers - Bastos and Downing/Johnson being the most likely. Dann is the most likely option for centre back, and the best.}

09 Jul 2011 17:56:50
Ed, I remember you saying yesterday that Lyon have offered cissokho a pay rise and made him captain to persuade him to stay at the club. But today they have come out and said that they could still lose him if a big offer comes in. Do you know anything about this. And also does this increase our chances of going in for Bastos instead? He would be available at the same price and could play on the wing as well.

Scouser4Life {Ed009's Note - Sakho is the player with the pay rise and captaincy. Cissokho and Bastos are both likely to leave Lyon this summer. Arsenal are highly interested in the former player, and we have bid for the latter. Perhaps we could see both players join Liverpool this summer.}

09 Jul 2011 17:56:48
Hi Ed, sorry if this has been said today but what i can understand from you is that Kenny has placed a 9mil bid for Bastos. Has the bid been rejected yet?, what is the price Lyon want for him? and do you have any idea if he is interested in joining Liverpool?

Thanks for your time
Wheeler95

P.S have you heard of any bids lately apart from Bastos above? {Ed009's Note - no other bids since the rejected Downing one, and all your statements on Bastos are correct - a player who would be willing to join, although his favoured club is Juventus. 12 million roughly should be enough.}

If you're right on this one ed - then we should give you your very own rumour page like Macca has.
Didn't really see this one coming to be fair with his age so if you're right i'll be petitioning for you to get your own page, a raise (lol) & a promotion to "Ed001.5" ha
Irish Kev.

I truly agree with this, i suggested this once, a page ONLY for eds, but ed001 said there is already a page for eds, which is called "Liverpool questions". but i couldnt find the post from ed002 on bastos, which very much does not show that liverpool questions show to people what eds want to tell. for people like me, who mostly only listen to eds, a page for the eds would really be perfect. hope it is considered. thanks.

Liverpool will offer 10m + ngog to lyon for bastos. Should be enough considering bastos' age

I'm guessing they would prefer £8m without ngog. Seems a fairer deal all round

Wikipedia has been updated to show that Bastos has been bought by LFC and is now a LFC player {Ed009's Note - Wikipedia also says that I'm an 18 year old big breasted blonde bombshell, and we all know that isn't true... don't we?}

09 Jul 2011 17:28:04
Hi Eds, love reading the site, as you know I post now and again but am on here religiously every day. I want to know your views on our supposed targets. I think Adam was a brilliant buy, I think Henderson having 3 years training and playing with Gerrard and Adam, he will develop into a Gerrard, Keane, Viera and i think he will be brilliant. What worries me is everyone stating how we need these wide players that can deliver the pin perfect cross but not as skillfull as others that are available. Carroll is a monster in the air, if the good ball comes over he will score more times than he misses. But we did this with Toserr ( spelling ), we built a team around him and when he was on form we were unstoppable, when he was injured we had no plan B.

If we buy in these players who can deliver a good cross just so Carroll can get on the end of it, what happens when he gets injured. Do we start becoming clueless with our attacks as we will more than likely have Kuyt and Suarez to aim for. Even if you can pick them out, against strong defence they will lose out. We need to find someone who can deliver a good ball and play on the ground as well. Bastos does look like that sort of player but there's always the chance that he won't settle in EPL. Downing will be absolutely amazing and create so many goals ..... if Carroll stays fit. If not, I think we need to change tactics.

I am not being negative in any respect as I think we are conducting our transfers correctly thus far, I just don't want someone with the skill that Suarez has, to be wasted because we will push him out wide to accomadate a natural crosser for Carroll. When Suarez is on the shoulder of a central defender and turns him inside out, he is then one on one with the keeper.

Either way, I am sure KK knows what he is doing, sorry if this comes accross as a rant as it really isn't and I can't wait for the start of the season.

Keep up the good work, patience and sarcasm as that is what makes this site interesting.

WelshScouse {Ed009's Note - I agree with the Downing sentiment, which is why ideally we would sign Adam Johnson instead, who will be available if City buy another winger. They are both good players but Johnson has the edge in that he can do crossing and trickery in equal measure.}

Hey, this is sort of a rumour, and kinda a question too... I read somewhere on Twitter that Damien Comolli said "Liverpool will sign someone who will rock the EPL"... Is this true, and even if it isn't who do you think it will be? I'd imagine it'd be someone along the lines of Mata or maybe even Aguero. {Ed009's Note - Bastos...?}

09 Jul 2011 17:01:37
What a great job Roy Hodgson done ed... Konchesky, Cole, Poulsen, Jovanavic, Jones and Mierles all out the door by september and some people have defended him on here.

09 Jul 2011 16:57:01
hey ed if we were to sign bastos what chances would u give it and in your opinion would he play lb or lw nd i thought he under-performed this season {Ed002's Note - Please refer to earlier answers. And yes he has not had the best of seasons.}

09 Jul 2011 16:55:52
ed is the reason we are looking to sign bastos 28 and downing 27 for LW instead of mata 23 because kenny doesnt want to disrupt sterlings progess {Ed002's Note - No. It won't be a consideration.}

09 Jul 2011 16:55:44
Hello Ed, got a question for you. I was browsing through all the fixtures of EPL; and saw every week all matches start at 15:00 GMT. Is this possible or the Premier League haven't sorted it out yet? {Ed002's Note -It will be a default whist the television companies sort out the games to be shown.}

09 Jul 2011 16:50:28
Ed, You mention the rifts between Comolli and Cissokho, what exactly are these? Also I heard he was left out from Lyon pre-season tour regarding transfer updates... Can you share some news on this? {Ed002's Note - Cissokho has not been left out of a "tour". OL have been training and played one game in Austria and he was due to join the team today - although plans may have changed. The next game is against Genk and is sometime next week. As for him stating that he has "issues" with Comolli, I have a fair idea what he is referring to but I cannot confirm it.}

09 Jul 2011 16:40:58
On Meireles - I'd be happy to sell him for about 12 million if we bring a left-winger in. It was useful having him to score goals under Kenny last season but he did little in terms of creative play - under Hodgson the team had no drive from midfield. He's be a useful squad player but 12 million is a fair price for him. I'd rather keep Aquilani of the two - he's better at keeping possession and has a better long pass. If we sell Meireles and Poulsen we can get around 15 million. Spend this on a left-winger and we'll have 2 good players in every position in midfield: Henderson, Gerrard, Adam, left-winger, Aquilani, Spearing, Lucas, Maxi/Cole. Then we only need a left-back an centre-back to be perfectly set up for next season, but we're not desperate for either. So yeah, I think it would be good business to sell Meireles and Poulsen and buy a left-winger, to return the drive and shape to our midfield

Hey EdOO2, thanks for keeping us informed on the Bastos bid. I dont really follow football out of England, im guessing from what i read he is a left winger. Can you give us any more information please, such as age, how you rate the player, would he fit our style of play and would you think that he is as good as Downing?
Many thanks in advance.

Baz {Ed002's Note - He is 27 going on 28, a very good LB, LWB, LW. I am not going to compare one player with another.}

09 Jul 2011 16:35:42
if as you say ed002, that we have offered roughly £8million for bastos and it has been rejected and u reckon lyon want about £12 million, then surely we have to come straight back in with a £10/11 million pound offer b4 the situation drags out again like the gael clichy situation

i know its the smart move by negotiating at a starting price which is way lower than their asking price but come on for god sake the lads class, just give them the 12 surely? we're cryin out for this type of player.....wouldnt suprise me 1 bit if juve got him with us messing about as per usual

09 Jul 2011 16:26:58
To me the pursuit of Bastos makes a lot of sense. We can sign him and then look at also add a more defensive minded left back. That would give us options.

Against weaker teams we expect to dominate we could play a 4-3-3. With Bastos at LB. The fullbacks bomb forward which allows the "wingers" to cut inside. The defensive midfielder drops very deep almost in line with the centerbacks, almost morphing the formation in a 3-4-3.

Against stronger teams we could move Bastos up to wing with a more defensive minded player at LB. It would essentially be the same formation but instead of a 4-3-3 which morphs into a 3-4-3, the formation would function more of a 4-5-1. A flat back four. Two wingers, one true forward and three midfielders all supporting the attack.

09 Jul 2011 16:23:32
the fact that Bastos is not all over the papers means it seem more realistic to me because we are doing things behind closed door and anyone we do sign from the the papers is just a good guess and do you guys remember the person who posted that we were linked with 63 player last month no wonder they get a couple. The papers just go what do they need a lb/cb/winger.and3rd stiker and get a list of people in those position for us it is easy young and talented and start to spread the people in the group as fact.

09 Jul 2011 16:08:48
Hi ED, With the interest shown in downing and bastos; do you think it is 1 or the other or is there a possibility both could join. Who would you prefer? and do you see bastos being implemented primarily as a left wing back or further up the field?
Thanks
JamieLFC {Ed002's Note - Please read the earier answers to these questions.}

09 Jul 2011 15:55:38
Thanks for the info on bastos ed, just a few questions, do you expect us to up the bid? Would he play left back or left wing? Thanks

Lee the red {Ed002's Note - I don't know if a further bid will be made; position wise, it depnds who else arrives (e.g. Mata/Downing the LB or Enrique then LW). Another option may be that he could be used as a WB in a 3-5-2 formation.}

09 Jul 2011 15:52:23
Charlie Adam to wear number 26 next season. Fingers crossed we can bring in a wide player and another striker, , ,

09 Jul 2011 15:45:10

Guys who do you mostly likely think will take these postions (Left mid) (Right mid) (Left Back) ?

09 Jul 2011 15:39:00
Ed's is it me or do you think that teams will start to get annoyed by are seamingly low opening bids for every player we are interested in E.G. suarez, downing and now bastos, is this kennys ploy or is ir totally down to comolli?

big ant {Ed002's Note - Teams will get miffed by it. I would not think that Dalglish is anything to do with it.}

Why is everybodys focus on resale value? What's wrong with spending money on player to win games, and therefore win trophies. People need to realise that the reason FSG are buying young players isn't for resale in the future, it's for one simple reason. Longevity. To build a squad for the future we need players that will stay together, Not to just push for a trophy next season then either sell the players off and/or see them retire.

El fuego del mundo.

You need to realise that if any of the players bought do not work they should be young enough to be sold on and in their "golden" years not just sit on the bench every week collecting a large amount of money for nothing until retirement comes

El Maun Muppo

Resale value is massive.. look at us now... we have Jova sat in reserves raking in 120k a week cos he has no resale value.. noone will pay us for him.. so we are having to take the hit and let him go for free..
Weve got too many of these players, the aim now is to make sure anyone we buy will have some form of value if the time comes that either we dont need them anymore or they wish to leave..
makes sense to me

I think there has been a misunderstanding here, i didn't mean lets sign older players, but as fans we should be focusing more on what a player can do for the club as a player. All i really meant to express is that investment in football is important, and that should be the main focus here, a club that wins trophies makes money, a club that plays too safe in an economical sense only avoids bankruptcy, we need to build a squad with young players and keep the ones that will win us matches, not build a player factory like arsenal where the best move on before helping the club that made them who they are.

Of course resale is important, i didn't dispute that, but football is still important isn't it?, so to clear this issue up i will end with saying that i applaud what FSG are doing with their transfer policy, not only because of the advantages of resale value, but for the fact that they want to build a team that can win trophies. To add, the reason we have flops is because we had owners who wouldn't pay decent money for players, and let's be honest, some very poor decisions were made, we've had to worry about resale because we've bought alot of crap over the years, surely it's safe to say we're in better hands with both owners and management so this won't be such a big issue in the future.

About how long is it normally before a club has to respond to a bid Eds? {Ed002's Note - There is no set time.}

09 Jul 2011 15:25:33
hi ed,
not because you need but just to
confirm your liverpool bastos bid, who
wants can go on www.tuttomercatoweb.com
they say we put 13m sterling.
thanks MALTA.

09 Jul 2011 15:24:07
The rumours about Bastos are on bbc sport website under football gossip.

09 Jul 2011 14:57:32
Hi ed, I told you 2 days ago, now it, s official lamela signed for roma. Boyan krkic and skelenburg soon. By the way ed, van you explain how di benedetto the roma owner can be one of our shareholder. Thanks MALTA. {Ed002's Note - I told you weeks ago Lamela would go to Roma. The Roma owner is a minority partner and investor in FSG and Liverpool is an asset of FSG. There is nothing wrong with that.}

09 Jul 2011 14:27:39
So a bid has been made for Bastos, ..Is the player any good please Eds? havent seen much oh him

Cheers

Kop71 {Ed002's Note - Yes, he is a good player.}

09 Jul 2011 14:13:18
If we were to get Bastos it will make deciding who gets free kicks more difficult. We have Gerrard, Adam, Suarez, Bastos and maybe Aurelio if he's not injured. It would be hard to choose between them.

09 Jul 2011 14:13:06
i think we will playy 4-2-3-1 next yr with suarez on one of the wings

09 Jul 2011 14:00:04
Thanks ed for the bastos rumour he would be a top winger and a player I haven't seen linked yet. Is it true he can play either wing? I would still like to see Johnson play right wing and I look forward to many posts over the next few days claiming bastos to Liverpool from a good source.
Ichi. {Ed002's Note - Bastos plays on the left.}

09 Jul 2011 13:53:28

I was wondering has Bastos got a good cross, or is speedy and skillful because I have never actually seen him play. Thanks. JD

09 Jul 2011 13:45:29
just a quick question to ed002 what did cissokho say about camolli to make you think arsenal are in pole position for him- ive heard quotes from a while back he likes us
zeds red {Ed002's Note - It was not what Cissokho said, Arsenal are in pole position in any case.}

09 Jul 2011 13:37:09
marc peloci on being offered the chance to join LFC...

"I have been told the current Barcelona coach said that, 'If you don't go to Barcelona, the second-best place to develop is at Liverpool.' It's a great, top notch organization, " he said.

"Right now, I want to make sure that wherever I go I am in the right place where there is a balance between training and playing high-level matches. And I want to ensure I can continue my education."

He has said he hopes to decide in the next few weeks. If he turns pro, he will join the development program of the English Premier League club. {Ed002's Note -

09 Jul 2011 13:35:59
right, just to clarify ed, how good of a chance do you think we have of getting bastos?

mooman {Ed002's Note - Reasonable. I am beginning to wish I had not told you about Bastos.}

09 Jul 2011 13:35:42
Nineteen times nineteen times You boys having a laugh if you think youll make top 4 nxt year. Adam n henderson going to help u do that i dnt think so All the best in europe this season boys. .. . . . . . . against swansea Terrible terrible liverpool. MUFC til i die

09 Jul 2011 13:34:33
Hi Ed, Do you know or have you heard any of the other Ed's saying if we are going to be playing 4-4-2 this season coming? or will it be another formation?
Thanks a lot in advance, your doing a great job {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry.}

09 Jul 2011 13:09:44
Just my opinion on the michel Bastos bid, if we do sign him I believe we will play with wingbacks in a 5-4-1 or 3-5-2, will make us a complete force with Johnson and Bastos playing wingbacks with Kelly most probably playing part of one of 3 centre backs.
RedAsh {Ed002's Note - I think this could be correct.}

09 Jul 2011 13:08:38
Ed some people are talking about bastos as a left back but when i have watched him he has been a left winger. Would you expect him to be bought for lw as alternative to downing or a LB? {Ed002's Note - It depends who else is bought.}

09 Jul 2011 13:03:45
As fantastic a player as Aly Cissokho is if Liverpool were to sign him where would that leave Jack Robinson? With Robinson only 2 maybe 3 years away from being able to play week in week out surely buying another young lb is not the answer. Maybe Jose Enrique is the right player for the job, especially if he can be brought in for less than £10m.
Also its looks like the a decision about the stadium is closer to being made, personally i think we just need to trust there judgment. If Anfield can't be renovated then its no use complaining about moving there is not other option.

And one final thing i know its not about football, don't be surprised or fooled when Murdoch is painted as the noble hero for closing down the NOTW, just remember this man is not to be trusted.

always a red

09 Jul 2011 13:00:41
With this news of a bastos bid, i am starting to question who ED002 is. With his great french contacts, as ED001 has said, i believe he could actually be DC Leaking information to the fans, always spot on, who knows?

09 Jul 2011 12:58:30
Hey Ed, do you think that Henderson will be deployed as a right midfielder this season or will he be playing center midfield. With the vast midfielders we have, I believe him and Gerrard will be used on the right.

And do you think Pacheco will attempt to break into the first team? He's going off to the U20 world cup with Spain, do you think KK will play him in any matches?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - Henderson could well play on the right. Pacheco may well be sold.}

09 Jul 2011 12:56:54
Ed so you reckon a 2nd bid for bastos will be made and do you think we will walk away from downing? {Ed002's Note - I did not say a second bud will be made.}

09 Jul 2011 12:46:27
ARE THESE RUMOURS TRUE ABOUT MICHAEL BASTOS.IT WOULD BE GREAT TO GET HIM HES CLASS.12M IS A BARGAIN TO.DO YOU THINK WE ARE IN FOR A CHANCE EDS {Ed002's Note - Sure.}

09 Jul 2011 12:59:23
I posted it earlier but it never came upno strikers will be signed this window as kuyt will be used to back up carrol and suarez once downing hassigned 18m next week then we will have to sell at least five players before any further signings come in
Cole jovanovich meireless Koncheski and ngog are the main ones to go as biggest earners

09 Jul 2011 12:42:20
Ed, whats the bottom line? If Arsenal Match A Bid For Mata With Us, who will he come to? In your opinion

Pistolero {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry.}

09 Jul 2011 12:19:01
NESN.com reporting the Bastos interest yesterday and also said that the Juventus deal collapsed.. Will it break on ssn ed?

MightyRed {Ed002's Note - I really don't know what SSN will do. Sorry.}

09 Jul 2011 12:16:18
Given we've bid for Bastos how high up in the transfer targets is he is he one of the priorities, great site on it throughout the day so far this summer you've been correct in your words hope it continues with Enrique, Bastos and Downing

09 Jul 2011 12:16:17
Ed, there is no confirmation on the Bastos bid on sky sports and they usually get news REALLY quick? {Ed002's Note - The point being?}

09 Jul 2011 12:12:29
Ed when are Liverpool back from the Asia Tour ? cheers. {Ed002's Note -Around July 18.}

09 Jul 2011 12:03:10
Hey Ed, could you name a few possible players who we might sign before the season starts? exciting times. By the way great site and fantastic effort by all the Eds repling to the questions. :) {Ed002's Note - It would be guesswork to go beyond what we know already and I would get a torrid time if wrong.}

09 Jul 2011 11:54:23
Hello ed, I am hope you're well. With Comolli going on the tour of Asia, I was wondering whether this will mean our transfers are likely to come to a halt during this period of time?

DownUnderRed. {Ed002's Note - No, I am sure efforts will continue whilst he is away.}

09 Jul 2011 11:51:39
ED, I was just wondering if we did sign bastos would we use him as a winger or left back, because he can play both positions? Thanks {Ed002's Note - It has to depend on who else is signed. If Downing or Mata is signed perhaps he will be used at LB if signed; if Enrique then perhaps further forward.}

09 Jul 2011 11:34:35
A question ed?
The owner of city doesn't own etihad by any chance does he?

LAVERS {Ed002's Note - It is the "state" owned flag carrier of Abu Dhabi, so yes.}

09 Jul 2011 11:24:30
Hi Eds'

Just wanted to know if there is anything in the new number given to Maxi?

He was no:17 but now given the no: 11 jersey. They could have given it to him when reira left. Maybe something to do with Elia, no: 17 for Holland? or just one of those random things?

Thanks for a site that keeps me awake at work :) {Ed002's Note - I really don't know of anything.}

09 Jul 2011 12:31:37
hi ed
in the question section did you say wer after bastos instead of downing or are we still after downing aswell, i think it would be a bit of a risk bringing bastos in wen he has no prem experience, wud rather hav downing personally.
fagan81 {Ed001's Note - I don't know what I said without looking, it is impossible to say so for sure, my belief would be Bastos would be an instead signing though, but it would depend on other signings. After all if Johnson becomes available to us I would expect him to become first choice signing for the left wing.}

09 Jul 2011 12:22:45
ed i dont mean to be rude but how are you so sure liverpool have place a 9mill euros bid on bastos because no one else no rumors anywhere say this
im just wondering {Ed001's Note - Ed002 has excellent contacts within French football.}

09 Jul 2011 12:21:25
ha ha, to MR AYALA is sh..te, i know we are in the "CHAMPIONSHIP", and in the"CHAMPIONSHIP" danny played 19 games for us, against some very good strikers, many of whom will be in the prem this season and none of them got the better of him,
he's what 19 or 20, you obivously dont know football, c/b's dont mature untill in there later 20s.i watched him in matches and not reserve games.
all i can say is if he's sh..te as you say, let him come to us and you keep your pensioner at the back, funny how many goals your defence shipped last season. {Ed001's Note - Ayala is an excellent young centre back.}

09 Jul 2011 11:46:25
The Telegraph is saying that Raul is not going on the tour of Asia on Sunday. Have we had any offers for him? Ross

09 Jul 2011 11:43:11
What about reyes from athletico Madrid? Heard there willing to sell. Would be a cheaper option than downing and roughly same age

09 Jul 2011 11:33:13
We should really be after mata as our no.1 priority. Do u agree Ed {Ed001's Note - not if the club feels differently, they have access to a lot more data than we do.}

09 Jul 2011 11:08:07
Ed do you think our bid for bastos means that we have walked away from downing? {Ed002's Note - I don't know. But Bastos is primarily a left back.

09 Jul 2011 11:04:54
this is genuine fact, saw stevie g last nite with his family at the wizard of oz in london, he was rushed past by security at the start but i bumped into him later (not literally) and quickly asked about new players coming in and he just smiled and said "you'll be happy with who the gaffer brings in"

What is our transfer budget? Please answer this question.
Jamie YNWA {Ed002's Note - There won't be a "budget" per se for transfers but there is goiing to be a target figure that the club should incur over a year which includes transfers, wages of players, wages of other staff, running costs of the ground, policing etc.. These need to be balanced against income from sales, from matches, sponsorship and competition. The owners will likely have set a maximum figure they are willing to take as a loss on these figures for, I expect, three years and then would be looking for some sort of return on investment. Don't under estimate the cost of the wages of players who do not have a future at the club nor of the losses associated with not being in European competition.}

09 Jul 2011 10:42:06
hey ed, love the site.was just wondering over our stadium development.just reading that city will get close to £400mill for naming rights.do you think we could generate the same amount if a new anfield were to be built.?surely with liverpool been a massive name all over the world, surely we could. {Ed002's Note - £400M seems most unlikely. Perhaps £100M over 10 years would be close to the mark - so £10M a year.}

09 Jul 2011 10:40:17
Liverpool are taking to mata's agents deal to be concluding tommorrow. Liverpool stilll interested in Bojan {Ed002's Note - Mata's agent has made it very clear that any interested parties must talk to Valencia not him. Arsenal and Spurs are doing just that - Liverpool may wish to join the discussions as well.}

09 Jul 2011 10:27:42
ed whats your opinion on maxi getting 11 do you think we wont try and sign a better winger? {Ed009's Note - we will be signing at least one winger for the left side, but I would suggest that Henderson will play a large amount of games on the right next season as he has a very good cross.}

09 Jul 2011 10:18:43
Ed Is it possible in a players contract to drastically reduce there wages if they dont play? Say for instance you get 20k a week. If you are injured you get 15k a week(ssp), if you cant get in the team 10k.
You could give better win bonuses to players who play in the winning team then to bump up thier wages. Do germany do something similar?
Sorry for all the questions i just wouldnt want a repeat of average footballers sitting on thier A**** and still getting a mint from the club.
No wonder we cant shift them dont think i would be in a hurry if recieving 20k a week for nothing if i knew i couldnt match them wages if I left.... {Ed009's Note - you can do something similar where the base wage would be 10K with a performance bonus of 10K so if they're playing it doubles, but a lot of players would be unwilling to accept this - Marveaux being a recent example.}

09 Jul 2011 10:03:46
Liverpool have far too many midfielders on there books, most of them are average at best, your defence does not look great and your attack is more or less a couple of novices, no marquee singnings willjoin you as theres no champions league or europa league football at anfield, so that sort of makes you a top ten team that will struggle to get in the top four, no atraction for top class players there then, thats why you ended up with the very average Adam.

Maxi changed shirt no 17 to 11...riise, jarvis, arbeloa, a.sanchez, nani .they all wear no 17.
Ed, is there any chance of seeing anyone in this list at lfc next season...

YoungMessiah {Ed009's Note - the only two players who there is any chance of are Jarvis and Riise, and I don't know of any real interest in those two either.}

ed we now have gerrard, meireles, adam, aquilani poulsen, spearing, shelvey, henderson

which 2 do you think will make the lfc first team in centre mid

cheers
huxley pig over & out {Ed009's Note - I think the main three central midfielders will be Adam, Lucas and Gerrard. We will often play with three central midfielders and when we aren't, they'll be rotated. If Meireles stays I would imagine he will be used in a wholly attacking role, and Henderson could well play wide right a lot of the time.}

{Ed001's Note - yes, I do believe there is a couple more deals under way, other than Doni.} do you think there could be any new faces before we head for Asia tomarrow ed? {Ed002's Note - That would be guesswork.}

Why Don't we sign Parker cos he is A. a really good player and B. He is in the perfect old fashioned signing that we used to sign because people like Ian st john keegan Barnes even Kenny himself were players that were good at their old club and when the bigger club signed them they came alive and all became kop legends so if kenny does look at this site (admittedly i don't think he does) take this onboard

Whats going on with this Copa America and all these draws . I watched the Uraguay v Chile, another game that looked football was gonna break out but never did. Suarez as usual was head and shoulders above his team mates even though he had a golden chance to score but clipped the. Made up for that with an amazing assist dribbling past a couple of players then picking his only team mate out in the box, even though their were 5of the Chilie player's in and around Loddero(Spelling) who finished well. Suarez got booked but for the rough treatment dished out to him and he ended up losing his temper but to be fair to him players went through the back of him more then once making me wince everytime it happened.He managed just about kept a lid on it, just . Sanchez showed some nice touches but his finish was a pure touch of class. To pick his spot and to be able to hit the ball at that pace with that part of his boot was pure class. It was i shame Uraguay did the same to him re hacking him and because they were they only 2 players to try or were likely to make something happen Anyway, he played well, no injuries 1 assist, and a yellow card 8 out of 10 i woulda given him and Sanchez a 7. imo you have to be careful not to go to crazy with the "great potential" signings. thats why I like downing, his style of play and effective crossing will give us 3-4 years which is a lifetime in todays game. You have to mix the great potential signings wiht proven premiership players, and downing fits that mold. I still would love to see a couple of classy european players with skill and creativiity. But downing will not be a bust, and lets face it so many european players are due to the physical nature in england.

Lfc bought Henderson top 3 in EPL leading 2 a goal, Adam shortlisted for players player & downing villa player of the year in a team with young in it.

In Adam n hopefully downing we would have 2 players with amongst the best left foot delivery in the EPL feeding the best header in EPL Carroll.

Without a doubt very effective signings, parts of a jigsaw, a blueprint of KKs last tenure.

So citeh n chelski can have their "marquee" signings, Lfc building a squad that's understands the rigours of EPL.

Ps. El pistolero will b the best player in it, a truly world class signing.

Jimbob {Ed033's Note - Couldn't agree more mate}

Finally something positive Very true mate, good post.

I for one can't wait for Downing to come (if the talks with his manager are positive) his delivery of the ball is exactly what we where lacking last season, Leighton Baines would also be a good signing again for his crossing skills which i prefer him over the likes of Aly Cissokho.

Liverpool consider going on next season with Glen Johnson as a regular Left full back, with Kelly, Wisdom (who is also a central defender/holding midfielder) and Flanagan as a the first choices at the right side and Johnson, Aurelio and Robinson the choices at the left side. Insua may also stay in if Liverpool deciding not to spend big money on a left full back.

If u ask me Martin Kelly on the right and Glen Johnson on the left is as good as it gets. They are both capable of running down the flanks putting crosses into the box and they both have a decent amout of pace and stamina required for a top team in the Premier League. Flanno, Robbo, Insua and Aurelio are all more than good enough to back up these positions. In crisis even Wisdom, Wilson, Agger, Spearing and Carra could all make a one-match only appareance in those positions.

Here's hoping Downing NOT for sale.
Having watched 5 mins of Michel Bastos on video he is a much better player all round, and obviously cheaper.
How can Downing be worth more than Ashley Young ? {Ed001's Note - because he is a better player.}

This is a point that has been bugging me all summer long.

THE TOP 4 WILL GET THE PICK OF THE BEST PLAYERS FROM AROUND EUROPE

Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City

We will get the scraps left over at the end. We missed out on Young, Phil Jones ect. We can't compete against them. We endded up losing Torres to one of them. Soon we will lose Renia + Gerrard.

The best we can hope for is scarps in the transfer market. It was a Miracle getting a plauer like Luis Suarez. Although we were technically in europe and had Torres at the Club.

Our pulling power has since gone from a 5 to 3. teams like chelsea, arsenal are at 8, Man utd is a 10

Mata wouldn't come to our team in a million years unless we paid over the odds (eg Andy Carrol signing)

{Ed001's Note - I agree with what you are saying, it is certainly something we are considering for the future.}

Ah sweet
Now that'll be something to look forward to.
It might & i do mean MIGHT flush out some of the bull that gets on.
Even if it doesn't stop it, at least we'll have less confusion as to who is responding to who etc.
Nice one Ed
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

people talk about us signing downing for 18m, one question why? an average 26 year old player whos had one good season and lets face it he'll be 27 soon and hes not gettin any younger. instead of buying downing why not buy nzogbia or taarabt. nzogbias 24 and had a great season last and taarabts around 21 and would be a great buy before goes from 10m to 35m in the january trans window......opinions?

RE: Sammy Lee leaves Liverpool by mutual consent

Hello i just wanted to talk about this. why did sammy lee leave the club this summer? Losing your job

I just find it very unfair. Did sammy lee get 7million pounds like Roy Hodgson. He was told to sign the paper and close the door behind him.

Do you think it was right?

Robinson-17
Kelly-19/20
Henderson- 20
Spearing-20
Carroll- 21/22
Suarez- 23
Adam- 25
Plus Many more. Liverpool football club will once again take over english football and maybe even europe
