Ed009, what is your stance on Sterling and Shelvey being promoted to full-time first-team players? I rate Shelvey very highly. {Ed016's Note - Sorry I don't get to edit to many posts these days, I have an opinion though. I think Sterling is still very young at the age of 16. I think honestly another 2 or so seasons. Shelvey. Good player but I think he might have an opinion of himself that the Management don't like. Kenny didn't play him several times when Shelvey has come out and said he deserves a spot in the first team. I do not think he gets that no one deserves a spot, it is earned}

Shelvey has performed though, Ed. Not only in the reserves but when he played he was great. I see where you are coming from with the "arrogance" bit but I think that could be a good thing, he believes in himself and isn't scared of trying things. With Sterling, he is 17 years old but I agree 2 seasons and he'll be great... 2 seasons in the gym that is! If he gets stronger I am sure he will be an amazing player in the prem!

Sorry I didn't sign my post last time.

BTheKingB {Ed005's Note - Playing a 17 year-old regularly in the first-team isn't a great thing for him long-term, as many have shown. As for Shelvey - think he has great potential and will eventually get more chances. Wasn't aware of him having a big ego but I'm sure Kenny will sort that out.}

Shelvey is average and has the speed of a 40 year old veteran.RedTurk

So who in the team do you support, turkey? Not Carroll, hendo, Downing, Dalglish or Shelvey. Let me guess - you think Rooney and Valencia are pretty good?

who is the ref on sat anyone know not webb surely

chris

Bloody hope not

Has football really got to the point when we worry more about whos the ref more than what the other team have got to offer??!! {Ed009's Note - Good point mate, we need to be accountable for the result, not fall back on refereeing decisions. We can win this game with or without any outside influence.}

I agree ed 9, but there seems to be a sense that some referees enjoy being a part of the game instead of just doing what they are there to do, often resulting in more and more games being decided on unnecessary ref decisions. Am not sure why it's happening, but it does seem to be happening more and more. Nick

Phil doywd

Most defo can, but still abet chelsea thought tht been 3 nil up they got 2pens there just like they did agenst stoke. god a decent 1 anyway in dowd come on the reds

chris

why would Renia waste his career at liverpool

And so it begins: Is Reina trying to engineer a way out of Liverpool

Is it Time

And what brought this about? Did you hear or read anything concerning Reina leaving? If so, supply the links.

BooDaBooze

Quite simply bizarre...!?

A while ago, Reina said 'It may take US 3 years to launch a title challenge.

So I take it he'll stay for another 3 years, Reina loves Liverpool, you can see it in every game he plays, whenever someone scores. He celebrates as if he scored it. Not to mention with Jamie out of the squad HE is our theoretical vice-captain.

Any player will think twice before leaving Liverpool now.....

Look at what happened to Torres ??
He is as good as OFF THE GRID now......

José Mourinho for next england manager

09 Feb 2012 21:44:11
Hello ed and all, there is an awful lot of talk and rumours going about that fsg are planning to take mourinho to the club in the summer and move kenny upstairs this is ment to of being the plan from day one that Jose would replace kenny hence the appointment of Clarke but they thought Jose would at of stayed at Madrid until the end of his contract which has 2 and a half years left I think, but now things have gone pear shaped with him and Spain he is coming to England earlier than expected and Liverpool will be his destination, fsg want success and feel Jose will bring it, I know the eds and fans will say it's not going to happen and say in kenny we trust and so on but in football you never know, it's just talk I heard at my supporters club meeting among a few fans and one of them was the fella that wears all the badges and stuff in the kop....ken

Mourinho wants the Man Utd job so no way hes coming to us along with all his controversy i wouldnt want him to dirty the club

Jose - Would he be happy with Holy Comolli and the fsg setup with transfers? Will they give him 100million or so to spend in the summer? Possibly no CL? Jose Mourinho picks his clubs carefully - I don't think Utd. is somwhere he would fancy. He wants City in my opinion...

Jose for Liverpool we would be challenging for the league in no time and if he won the league for us you would all be saying he is god, and don't make me laugh saying he wouldnt manage us he is a lfc fan and would relish the challenge making us champs. Pauric

Absolutely no way will Jose be Lverpool manager!

So basically the original poster's argument that Maureen might take Kenny's role is that 'you never know'. The same argument said that Aguero, Cavani and Moussa Sow were on their way to Anfield. We never KNOW anything due to the limited info coming out of Anfield but if you're going to speculate, at least be realistic: Kenny will be manager for the foreseeable future and we will win the Premier League a few times with him at the helm.

cozinoz

Pauric, you're wrong, as many , including myself couldnt give a toss if he won the quadruple ever year, I'd still hate him to be manager. so please dont pretend like you can speak for everyone.
Dara D

Cozinoz, i do not see us winning the league title under kenny. He will have 2 years remaining on his contract come next season, n there is no way we will win it within that period, unless we get champions league this season itself n sign some world class players.
Indian Buzzer

Why dont you give KK more than 12 months to prove himself, Buzzer - like you said he has another 2 years so quit your negativity (I love how Carroll is slowly proving you wrong, by the way). KK's making progress and he's allowed to make a few errors along the way too - we are playing better football than we have for years and rarely looking like losing. He is Liverpool through and through plus he has the experience and the financial backing. All he needs now is the supporters on his side and the vast majority of them ARE. You can't see us winning the league with Kenny because you think we should be top of the table after 12 months with Andy Carroll scoring hat-tricks every game. I'm guessing you didn't like your iPhone Xmas present because it was only 32gig and you get really fed up if you have to wait more than 3 minutes for your burger at maccas.
There are no quick fixes in football but what KK has done in the past year is made the other teams worry about playing us again (oh, and a cup final...maybe two....maybe 4th).
Stop your moaning, support your manager and your team (if LFC is your team) and BE PATIENT.

cozinoz

Liverpool won't win the league with kenny fsg won't be giving him another contract even if he stayed for the two years that's left which he won't Jose will be our next boss and I for one can't feckin wait rock on the summer..Jude

Dara d, if Jose won the league with us you would be singing his praise and probaly be standing with a big flag of him in the kop.Pauric

Where is some peoples pride? Mourinho has done nothing but bad mouth Liverpool. He has said that he doesn't want to manage Liverpool and that Gerrard should have left us.

"Gerrard for me is not in the right club. They have problems. They will not win anything"

And yet you would want us to go begging for him to manage us? I bet your the same people who want Torres back after all the rubbish he has said about us since he has left.

We have a man in charge who is Liverpool through and through. Listen to his press conferences or interviews and all he is concerned about is the club, everything else comes second.

Mourinho only cares about himself, and his public image. He doesn't care about our club or any club. I wouldn't want him within a mile of Liverpool.

JRG

Cozinoz u idiot, i only said that we wudnt win the title within 2 years, whoever is the manager. We r atleast 4 seasons away frm being champions, regardless of who our manager is, whether its kenny or rafa or even mourinho. I never asked for a quick fix. Oh yeah, carrol has just scored one goal, that too against wolves. Plz dont tell me he is or will be a world class player, coz he wont. Decent player, but definitely not world class material imo.
Indian Buzzer

As a point i'm a fan who is totally happy with KD in charge, his blood runs truly red more than any other manager could ever dream of and i think he may only be 2/3 players away from a side we've all been dreaming of. but, as a side note, to those that say mourinho doesn't care about any club. he hasn't been embraced like anfield embraces its managers. he may have managed a couple of the world's biggest teams but he hasn't felt what lfc supporter's bring to the table. he would without question find himself in rafa's current shoes, embracing everything this club stands for. he's a man that likes nothing more than putting himself in the trenches and defending his players through thick and thin which seems to have to be a lfc mangers trait these days......
wasn't there a strong rumour that he actually had a contract agreed many years ago only for rick parry to pull the plug on him last minute and put rafa benitez to the front of the queue? and soon after abramovich got his 'special one? i was told this is his real gripe, not getting the job originally. who knows?

We already have the best manager....end of ...so get behind him

tel1949

I think Jose would jump at the chance to become Liverpool manager, but do Liverpool want him? I think not.

Ah!! and tel1949 finally steps up to offer his 'words of wisdom'. lol

Jack

And jack don't talk crap

Tel 1984

Hopefully Mourinho never becomes Liverpool manager, hopefully Carroll gets better or is replaced. And hopefully we finish high enough in the league for Kenny to come back next season. Otherwise he will be gone. The owners mean business.

Do you not think people are underestimating Sunderland for a top 5 finish. Look at these stats...before and after O'Neill became manager.

League results only...

Before O'Neill
Pld - 14
Drw - 5
Won - 2
Lst - 7
pts - 11pts

Since O'Neill took over...
Pld - 10
Drw - 1
Won - 8
Lst - 1
pts - 25pts

Now that is impressive...

Compare this to our results...

Liverpool 1st 14 games...
Pld - 14
Drw - 5
Won - 6
Lst - 3
pts - 23pts

Last 10 games
Pld - 10
Drw - 4
Won - 4
Lst - 2
pts - 16pts

Suarez - did he make that much difference? Could he make more difference the Stevie G?

Stato

Not now as I'm happy whit Kenny but it would have been interesting to see what O'Neill could do with that Liverpool squad!

Actually I think it's
Pld 10
Drw 1
Won 7
Lost 2
And while still impressive, 6 of the 7 wins came against QPR, Wigan, Blackburn, Stoke, Swansea and Norwich
let's see what happens for the rest of the season before deciding O'Neill is a great

Original Poster: Yeah, I noticed I got it slightly wrong just after I clicked send (DoH!!)... It is still impressive, and out of interest our results against the same teams... QPR (W), Wigan (D), Blackburn (D), Stoke (L), Swansea (D), Norwich (D)...

That's not a downer on us because I think we'll finish the season stronger and overall things are doing okay.

I agree & often wonder what we might achieve with another manager...then I remember what KK brings to the table. Sure Kenny is a bit confused as to his identity as a manager and lfc as a footballing team, but that is part of the learning curve. I see him as a passionate idol of our past who can inspire our squad to glory, but also see him as a weak tactician.

Recently he's been overly obsessed with organizing the team strategy and has been rather reluctant to let the players loose, and altho we've gotten positive results from the sheer desire to trash the mancs, it hasn't been a controlled approach.

O'neill knows what he wants from his squad and in this run of form he does have 25pts, but that's where it ends. He may be able to push his players to above-average, but he'll never lead them to glory. He doesn't have that in him.

Steve Clark. If this man can organize our ranks and effectively play the 'general', then KK can be the King that he is. Focusing our ambitions, inspiring our troops, recruiting our allies and all the other things that great leaders provide.

The problem right now is he's taking it all onto himself and nothing is gelling (well it is, but not like it could be) and until he learns what his strengths are and what he should stay out of (tactics) he'll never find that consistency to win PL titles.

Sorry but this is the truth and we need to start looking at the gears that turn our engine and not the horses that pull it. We have the squad to compete (sortof) and a manager who can take us to the top... but we're missing those rock-solid generals who can keep it going behind the scenes. Or we're missing the ability to trust them to do their job. Somewhere in the chain of command there is a hiccup and I would like it fixed.

Maybe football gives too much power to managers, but those managers in turn also have to choice to subsidize that power and distribute responsibility to those who can handle it most efficiently.

I don't want a mediocre existence under Martin O'Neill. I want KK to sort out his team before the remaining faith we have in his system is taxed to the point of change. I would hate to see us bring in another manager before KK gives himself the chance to prove himself in the long run. He surely did at the end of last year, but this season he lost that 'nothing to lose' attitude and has stiffed up for the most part.

KK- I want to cut the boys loose and let them play like you had last year. Don't overthink it and don't be afraid, and YNWA.

@Stato

Its not very difficult to move to 8th in the EPL....The trouble comes after that......The league has 7 very good teams at the moment who are all as good as each other......

The exceptions among the seven are Liverpool and Newcastle...because both the the clubs have very new teams who havent benn together for more than a season.....

I dont think O'Neill or anyone can finsih above these 7 come May.........So dont look at those stats.....They can mislead you....

Hello Ed002,
I think we all should understand that both sides, that is the manager and the players should be given the opportunity to work for two, three years at least. In my opinion it is premature to fire KK and some of the players (Downing, Adam, Carroll) at the end of this season. Remember that for some of the players it's a big change, they come from average or good clubs to one of the biggest in the world. That puts some pressure on them. Some of them can handle it well from the start (Suarez), some need some more time. I believe they will be great, the team has changed and the changes were in the right direction. What's more, its quite possible that LFC will get two cups, CL spot this season and maybe the Charity Shield. Who would like to fire KK and the players then? Keep on believing the Red fans!!

Red Lenin and Ed001, I must apologise, I get a bit like a dog with a bone when I get something in my head. The reality is it matters not what was said.
I am a fan of your posts Red and hope I haven't wound you up too much! (I still think I'm right of course!) Anyway no hard feelings I hope.

Chris in Tamworth {Ed016's Note - How do you rate Andy Carrol these days Chris?}

Has been better in the last couple of games but it didn't take much to be better than he had been previously. Hardly setting the premiership alight though is he and still not scoring so jury still out surely

Chris in Tamworth

Stopped crying and demanding apologies now Chris. I don't know why you continuall dragt earlier posts up to try and embarrass fellow reds is a shady trick. Regarding Carroll, you don't like him end of. He's played well the last few games, but your their with more sly dig's instead of like most of us,realise that. Grow up man.

Jonson

Tamworth is a pit anyway. I was a recruit in the nearby infantry barracks in the 1970's. Is the Checkers still going? RED LENIN

Demanding apologies I may have been but as you can see it is me that has apologised in the long run, as for the Carrol comment it was only in reply to a question from the Ed so not sure what you're upset about.
No I don't rate Carroll, never have and have never said otherwise. However I do have the good grace to admit that lately he has been better. Still a long long way from being "one of the most feared strikers in Europe" which if memory serves is how you rated him a few months ago.
Whats pathetic is your obsession with trying to slag me off for having an opinion which dares to differ from yours.
Ever thought maybe you could be wrong?

Chris in Tamworth

Red the Chequers is still there but now called the Tame Otter (very popular nowadays for half decent food). By the way you're right Tamworth is a pit, hopefully I won't be here much longer now, trying to get back home to Cornwall asap

Chris in Tamworth

Let it go Chris. Carroll has been playing better lately. I wasn't impressed with his form over the last year - but bit my tongue instead of criticising. His form has improved over the last 2 games - its time to get behind him in true YNWA fashion as befits a true fan following his team. Support will breed confidence which will bring goals.

That's were your very wrong Chris. It's not disagreeing with me,or me being wrong or right that bothers me. I come on hire to read Liverpool FC banter, not England bulls**t. Especially 24 hours nearly of a grown man throwing his toys out of his pram because someone wants to be right, its the sly and snide things like the comments and as I said dragging peoples posts up in order to make then out to be fools. Sad if that's how you get your kicks mate.
Jonson

I'm not even going to waste my time arguing with you Jonson. You are right

Chris in Tamworth

Oh no Chris your right, you always have been always will be. From sea bass to England managers. You must be,you cut and paste to prove your points. How can I complete with that eh,ha ha.
Jonson

It's very very rare that I would cut and paste but other than that I have to agree with you! I only wish my missus would accept so easily that I'm always right.

Chris in Tamworth

Jonson and chris, your both good lfc supporters with a genuine desire for LFC to be great again. Of course everyone has different opinions but at the end of the day we all basically have the same opinions regarding the reds i.e we want to win everything.

Personally I enjoy reading both your banter, that is after all what this site is about.

Best wishes and carry on giving us your views .......

Tel 1949

Chris in Tamworth - as you know I have the same opinion as you with regards to Carroll. I didn't rate him before Liverpool, and haven't done since he joined. Nevertheless, he's impressed me the last few games, and I will continue to support his improvement. Jonson I've known you for a fair ol' while, and you are very opinionated yes, but you do give the impression that your opinion is omnipotent. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and myself and Chris have gone about our opinion the right way and not constantly slagging off Carroll by the day. At least we aren't the fickle type to jump on the bandwagon like most of the 'fans' on here. So honestly, stop with the arguments and bitching, and as you said Jonson, you come on here for the banter; so let's keep it as that. BANTER.

Thanks all,
Hooch.

Has anyone noticed Manc U,Citeh,Arsenal aint filling grounds lately.N.East derby not that full neither.With the recession will this effect the thinking of LFCs Stadia plans regarding proposed Capacity?And will clubs soon reduce/freeze ticket prices,more than previously.We pay most in Europe for Tickets.Not just cosve recession,but i feel Footy rip off prices,have reached maximum milking point in Uk,and thats also why gates tailing off a tad {Ed016's Note - We could sell out a 70,000 seater stadium any day.}

Who too? and only if were successful? if not? Half empty stadiums.
kidmillions

I started to get upset paying £50 for tickets for away games at aresenal and £49. for fulham and spurs etc now i am paying £45, for home games its starting to get to be too expensive for most fans and when they can see it on tv and have a few pints in the pub you can see why some fans stay away and having to go to matches when it suits tv 5.30 on a saturday or 12.45 and sunday games and monday night games is driving supporters away just look how difficult it makes it for our own fans who have season tickets and live out of town i.e isle of man and ireland they buy their tickets at the start of the season in good faith but all of the good games get moved to alternative dates/times.
i am lucky i live not far from the ground and even i (who loves lfc)can understand the way other teams have empty seats we would be the same have a look at our attendances in the past . the days of the lfc tv season ticket are on the way , you will be able to watch every game home and away from the comfort of your home it will start outside the liverpool area first. i will always go but to fill a 70,000 capacity ground ? early days may be just for the novelty alone but at what price for entrance and even worse are we still going to see the present home tactics , we need to do more than draw at home to attract not only those who love lfc but the fans for the future .red mick tag

Hi Eds, Not a rumour. Just wanted to say I've got a ticket for the match at the weekend, but I'm going to be sat amongst the home fans. Think of me as being 'under cover' .... so all the Liverpool fans when you're shouting vitriol across the pitch, just remember that some of us are there! You won't see me, cos I won't be wearing my scarf.. LOL

Brian YNWA (might be walking alone on Saturday) {Ed016's Note - You never know how many other reds will be around you. I am flying into Manchester on the Tuesday, off to Liverpool catch up drinks, see family and then down to London for the game got a few mates there. Enjoy the match and Flying back the day after the match. Thank god its scheduled during a week off from Uni and my mate has done a lot of the Advertising work for Carling got a few tickets to spare!}

For all the negative fans out there who says there is no progress under king and claims he is no different to Woy.

Just take look at others,

Chelsea:

From title winning team 2 years ago to a team disjointed with some old players, manager changes, huge debts and need massive turnover of players with hell lot of money needed to replace and at the same time abide FFP.

Arsenal:

Lost their best players year in year out, Not winning titles for 7 seasons, In the danger of loosing out CL after 12 years.
Yes they have good academy base and play attractive football, Every year i observe they are moving backwards.

ManU:

A manager coming to the end, A generation of players coming to an end. Their academy and youngsters are highly overrated. Huge debts and only lucky with help of referees and FA to be where they are right now.

Spurs:
Might be on the high right now, But they can't compete for the long term since they have no financial muscle as other big clubs and just away from 2-3 star players leaving for big money to make them where they belong. Just a honeymoon trip for 1-3 years for them and its going to end sooner than later with Harry leaving them.

Mancity:

They have good 5 -10 years ahead of them, But simply cant run the club like that for eternity just like we can see with chelsea. But once they reach that stage they will be in far worse position than chelsea is right now.

Even let's take them out of equation since some genius people says we need to concentrate on our own.

Now my club Liverpool:

After 18 months of absolute uncertainity for 18 months after great 2008.2009 season. Almost went to adminstration with being another potential Leeds or Nottingham forest. First roung exits in cups an year ago to final in one and potential good run in another, After being out of top 4 and CL for 2years to so close to making it again. An aging and quality less squad to very young and capable squad. Debt ridden owners to people who can spend good money, and a manager who cares nothing except LFC.
An academy which is the one of the best in the world.

Think you were right on Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, and City, but the bitterness towards United was talking then, never rule them out.

Sorry, I was interrupted last time. let me continue the rest.

If this is deemed not good progress, then what the heck is.

How dare some people compare kenny to Woy, Woy lost us to northampton town at home in first round of carling cup last year. Kenny took us to final beating every team including chelsea and mancity away.

The worst decision LFC management did is when they fired Rafa in 2010, they did not appoint kenny straight away, if so we eould be in top3 right now. We would never have bought likes of poulsen, konchesky, jovanovic etc. How the hell some people understand progress takes time. Its not like u take drugs to become powerful athlete which is illegal and what the likes of chelsea and mancity does and they will have their negative side effects as the time goes on. We build in a legal way but patiently yet painful way. And this process always test us, but at the end of the day we will be where we want to be.

I am just astonished the negativity our club is getting, even in the win we just point some player saying he had a bad game. We are LFC not plastic who moan about everything. This club has gone through everything in its illustrious history and stood tall every time. remember time before Shankly and after that, There is soon going to be another era like that. Kenny will do the exactly same job like the shankly did. Lay the foundation with strong pillars and form there on its just higher and higher. Pls don't moan, I hate fans hating their own club's people.

AJ

You forgot to mention about our team , the like of kuyt who has no 1st touch , and is old , then theres maxi ,again too old ,and no world beater , then you have bellamy playing great , but because of his bad knees cant play every game , then theres downing , enough said about him , henderson and carrol are for the future not now , charlie adam has his good games and his bad games and then theres the lack of goals , its easy to create chances against teams who dont attack us and just park the bus , but as you were saying we have not moved on realy , we have not been to wembley yet or won that game , and theres still plenty of team in the fa cup who will also have a good run

And they're ahead of us in the table

To the last 2 posters, Progress is continued process and it will take years as u saints missed the point.

Well regarding the players we have who r not good enough or need replacing we did a lot last summer and again will be done this summer which will take to next step of progress. Then with carroll and hendo being for future, thats my point nerd! Everything will start to fall in one place with academy too producing future stars. To the poster who made comment that yet they are above us, I can pretty much say u r FIFA generation 12 year old so would u become 15 year old next year just because u have some 14 year old buddies around u. One thing is definite, LFC fans are no more the knowledgable fans in the world thanks to u thumb suckers.
AJ

Actually mate spurs have Joe Lewis worth around 3 billion plus other investors worth around 2.3 billion togeather so they do actually have some backing

So does the previous owners and even the current owner of QPR. And also ukraine owner of Arsenal. But Arsenal are not spending like s**tty ye,

AJ

I agree with everything mentioned bar one...I thank the stars that Roy was appointed and not Kenny because were the King reinstated, our results would have been far better and would have given us rose tinted glasses of the then owners. Roy just sped up the process of finding capable people to take this great club forward. Everything and I mean everything has happened for a reason. Onward and Upward! YNWA NextGenRed

After the incredible job hes done at Man utd over the years, there is only one man for the England job. Howard Webb

England will definitely be penalty shootouts with him in charge. he's given so many he knows the ins and outs of penalties, second only to Stevie G

Not a Liverpool fan but just wanted to ask what was the latest with the Kevin Williams Inquest petition? Are we a step closer to finding the truth or getting it out?

A Man United fan

Thanks for concern. I think we should forget about Suarez Evra all that after all its about 2 great club in history. still one of the best match in the world and most people watch it all over the world. no matter how much money city use there is no match like Man utd vs Liverpool.

Well i think its a disgrace what they have gotten away with for over 20 years, and something like this goes beyond football rivalries, all decent football fans should support the campaign for truth and justice, it could have been anyone of us from any club that day, it turned out to be your fans, the attitude of the authorities has been shameful in regards to the events of that tragic day. Just wondering how it was going as i understand these things do take a lengthy process.

i have a friend verry close to the club and he has told me exactly what fsg plan to do with liverpool. the reason we did not buy anybody in january is simply because there was no good value deals available there is genuinly nothing more than this not because kenny has fell out with commoli and all that b.s however he has assured me that it is true that kk will be returning to his role as ambasador (excuse any spelling) for the club and a new manager will be braught in not a manager currently in england that much is guaranteed and he knows they have taken a look at mourinho howver it is not certain hiddink is also a possibilty but not a deffinate however unfortunatly liverpool fans the yankky doodles do not value kk as much as we do i am just getting this out there i am a bootle bread liverpool fan with no reason to lie personally i think kk is the man and i feel if we lose him talented youngsters like kelly ( who i believe is the future captain of liverpool) , flannagan and robinson will not get a sniff in and this is a bad thing we have tallent and kenny will bring it through lets just hope my friend is wrong and we are singing kk's name next season {Ed009's Note - I think we can be pretty sure there will be no Mourinho at Liverpool, be it for better or worse.}

I think is was always down to Kenny to do a good job and prove his worth and I this he has done that last season when he came in and I think he will deliver also. I believe we will make the top 4, there is still lots of points to play for.

09 Feb 2012 19:00:46
It would be good if we can take a point from OT even better if we could win. As long as we stay in touch with top four and are only 3 or 4 points off the top four going into the last ten games then i really fancy us for a top four finish as we have a decent run in and arsenal and chelsea at home.

It will be nip and tuck all the way but we have the squad to make top four and we are playing really well at the moment.

But lets put one over the bitter mancs first.

Mighty reds

I think we will win Saturday, we have better players than man United and a stronger team. We just need to get it right on the day and we usually do against Man united.

Better players and a better team? Do you lot actually bother to look at the premier league table?

If Roy became England manager, just imagine those press conferences..

"I know England lost and are out of the Euros, but overall I think we played very well, and were unlucky not to come away with a draw. To get a result would have been Utopia".

"The famous England support hasn't really been there for me".

"Playing Ukraine was a formidable challenge, there's no question about that".

"My methods? My methods got me sacked from Inter 20 years ago, sacked from Blackburn 15 years ago, sacked from Liverpool last year, currently managing a nowhere team, don't question my methods".

"I needed more leaders in the team. Konchesky and Carlton Cole were not enough".

"I thought rubbing my face might win us the game".

HodgsonForEngland

Hodson would be great as England Mgr.

Bring him on

As a Irish supporter I think he'd be a great England manager i'd say he'll bring something new to it the winning mentality or the Va Va Voom as Thierry Henry would say

Sam allardyce would be a good choice.

It doesn't matter who the manager will be, England will still be built up as world beaters then have an almighty fall from grace and get knocked out by a team they should beat, happens every time!

Craig Bellamy in the FA cup, league cup, and the end of the season: "We've got a chance to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals if we beat Brighton, we're in the final of the League Cup, we're four points off fourth and have a fully-fit squad. We have a good chance to up the charge and end the season on a real positive note."

Maybe some fans giving out on this relax and give the boss some time.

the new owners have not spent that much money and maybe thats why we never got the players we need , we need a striker just incase our 2 get injured or banned , we need a creative midfielder to unlock defences , we need a right winger to supply andy carrol , who did we get . no one , why , money was not available , simple realy , will we get 4th place defo no , wil we end up in 7th yes we will , and for fans who think we have already won the final , we got beat by wimbledon at wembley , if they park the bus in front of the goal like teams have at anfield will we win , no we wont we will draw and it wil go to pens , reality sucks dont it

Em, no. you suck.

If you can't capitalise on chances you will not win, sadly that has been the problem this year, 28 goals in 24 games is very, very poor. All I can say is thank god for Bellamy, imagine where we would be on the log without his contribution. At seasons end, the owners and management will really need to properly and realistically evaluate the various contributions by players, and performances.
Based on that, a few players must be moved on (not mentioning any names), because improvement (supposedly) without results is worth absolutely nothing.

Bellamy, Carroll, Kuyt and Suarez makes 4 not 2

Nothing like looking on the bright side mate lol , listen the owners spent a lot of money buying the club , clearing dedt , remember leeds utd , a big club , could of happened to us mate , kk knows whats needed , in jan i dont think he could get the player , players that he wanted , but not due to money , all kk is doing and the owners is go within the fpr coming in , also we will have to redo anfield or new ground , it will take time but with our good youth policy and kk not buying greedy players who just want the big money , i think the club are doing it the right way , the old lpool way , dont forget it took fergie 6 seasons to win his first title with utd , people need to give the manager/club time , so its time you wised up mate.............lfc

ive just looked at the table again and see arsenal are above us again having slipped down the prem , we are in deep trouble and if anyone of you think we still can get 4th place then you are so misguided , we cant win at home and this month we have some tough games , we are only 9 points ahead of neverton , we gave up the europa league last season to get 4th , its has backfired , we will not get 4th , im being realistic , its about time a lot more of you done the same , we have dropped too many points at home and i think thats because kenny is afraid to lose , he can say we have been unbeaten , and thats the problem , we made some bad buys and we have some great reserve players that would give us pace look at sterling , he would push defences back , its time for kenny to use tsterling and go for the wins

Absolute Tosh!!
We have been so unlucky in a hell of a lot of games this year and have deserved more than a draw in nearly all of them.
All without Stevie G (only now starting to get back some fitness and sharpness), Lucas - big blow to lose him for the season all at the same time as trying to bed 5-6 new players into the first team.

On top of that we are not far off of 4th, in the final of one cup and still in the other.

I would have taken this situation for this current time at the start of the season.

Just think back to the way we were playing under gold old Woy. Then look at the players we had (poulsson, jovanovich, konchesky, kyrgiakos).
It's actually amazing how far we've come in only one year!!!

Each player bought was an improvement on the player going out.

the squad has been strengthened and the first team is transformed and all for a nett outlay of about £35m

I small a manc or a blue here, if you support the club you will know Saturday is our last league game this month, as we play Brighton and Cardiff in cup games in succesive weeks, if you're going to have a pop at Kenny get your facts straight first! - TMac

We are only 9 points ahead of neverton , we gave up the europa league last season to get 4th

Absolute quality, U genius managed to find this absolutely superb fact and forgot to mention we are only 4 points adrift of chelsea and 4th place.

Right lads, that's the foreigner resigned from the Inglund job.
No more of that fancy pasta, bananas, yoga, and all that muck before matches.
That's what's been holding the lads back.
Get some proper grub in to them before games.
Steak and kidney pudding & chips the night before, with half a loaf of buttered bread (not margarine!) and a pot of tea. In a china teapot. With doilies on the table. Bed at ten, after watching re-runs of 'The Professionals' on ITV4.
Morning of the game, full fry up. Tomato ketchup ****ing banned. Brown sauce only, that's another thing that's been going wrong. Honey and stuff like that ?
Couple of laps around the grounds of the hotel.
A few rounds of bingo, with Stuart Pearce calling the numbers, to get the lads bonded. Anyone getting house gets a 4-pack of Kestrel Lager.
Pre-match meal, OK a bit of luxury saying as it's the national team and the FA are picking up the tab. Chicken in a Basket.
Something nice and light for dessert, eg Sherry Trifle.
Bus to the stadium. A bit of Sex Pistols on the tape deck (the proper version of God Save The Queen), and then out there and get stuck into them.
Cos they don't like it up 'em !
That's the way to go.

It will probably be raining cats and dogs in manchester on Saturday.

Liverpool need to play cat and mouse with the ball against the mancs.

There won't be enough room to swing a cat in the away fans area at old Trafford.

Sad to hear Tommy Smith selling his medals, but am i right thinking that 'Liverpool Football Club' should buy these medals and put them in the lfc museum...

Do the right thing reds...

Pete.

Totally agree with you. LFC should make him an offer or some players chip in for them £100k would probably do it. Peanuts for the club and players these days
Finisher

This type of thing drives me crazy these days. Fellas like Tommy Smith ("it's not your knee son, it's Liverpool's knee") should be millionaires.
There's people like Wayne Bridge, probably played about 100 games in the last ten years, is a multi-multi millionaire. And legends like The Anfield Iron have to sell off their silverware. Sad.
The game is awash with money and these guys are having to do this..?
I hope LFC do but them and give him very good money for them too.
People called Keegan for leaving Liverpool in '77 for money abroad, but you can see why now.
The Real KB

Sad story when people have to sell medals they earn

As they say, 'if you want loyalty buy a dog, but I work for money'.
Sad, that so many players have no career to fall back on after retiring.
I wonder how many footballers have a tertiary education, because not all of them are going to be employed as coaches, managers pundits etc.
I would like to see the clubs offering players additional courses or education options, to prepare them for a life outside of football.
Sure hope LFC assist Tommy, it would be the right thing to do.
Food for thought.

I really don't see why anyone has interest in who the next England manager is. They are clearly on course for another failure, and wouldn't be surprised to see some players like terry, gerrard and rooney retiring from international football before the tournament begins to save face. People, enjoy the tournament, but enjoy watching teams like spain, germany and holland.

Last night I made this comment
"Just a couple of points
1) the FA certainly did inform Capello of their intent and he was involved in the discussions
2) Capello never said that as far as he was concerned Terry remained his captain
Please be fully aware of the facts before you post such statements"
---------------------------
Red Lenin, Ed001 and an unnamed poster all told me I was incorrect on these points.
Today the FA confirmed that Capello was informed of their decision on Thursday night (before the general release on Friday morning) and while he disagreed with their decision he DID accept it. This proves my first point to be correct.
I was told by Red Lenin and Ed001 that the interview is on the internet, you are right it is...it's in Italian so do you both speak Italian? I know the answer to that question is no because if you did speak Italian you would plainly hear that nowhere in his interview does he say "Terry remains my captain" or anything even remotely like it.
In fact he ends the interview stating that ethical matters (as in the Terry case) are not his concern but the concern of the FA. This proves my second point.
I sit back, feet up and await your apologies

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - and you would also know that Capello has had to agree to say certain things or lose his severance pay. You have just listed those things, so no apology for not being stupid enough to believe what he says is the truth.}

Chris
I agree with you. Marcotti has translated it and capello didn't say terry was still his capt and that he did know about the FA decision. All this was known before yesterday's decision so I don't know where Red Lenin and Ed001 are coming from
Finisher

He quit, so what 'severance pay' would he be entitled to? I'm sure the FA have paid him more than enough for them not to resort to blackmailing him to say what they want by withholding money. How ridiculous.

Verbatim quote from the RAI interview "I completely disagree with the FA about the John Terry decision and I have told that to the chairman. The court will decide. It's going to be civil justice, not sports justice, to decide if John Terry committed the crime that he is accused of. I considered and still consider Terry as the England captain. I think we first should wait for the trial conclusion." The FA claim Capello was consulted and agreed. Capello's position is that he was not consulted he was instructed that it was happening and that is a massive, massive difference. Sources leaking to Sky and described as 'senior within the FA' are saying that Capello remained resolute during the 40 minutes he was in hearing - that either Terry was re-instated as captain and the FA apologised and backed down, or he would quit. During the Italian interview Capello said more than once that it was not his decision and he did not support it - where you may be getting the wrong idea is from Capello agreeing that the FA had primacy over moral matters but Capello caveated that with the fact that Terry has not done anything yet until he is tried found guilty and made heavy reference to 'innocent until proven guilty' being an established benchmark of the 'English Way'. He further stated in UK rag-press (published monday) that as far as he was concerned Terry was still his captain. He also stated same on the RAI interview (quoted above). The BBC, ITV and Sky are also saying that Capello was not consulted prior to and did not agree to the sacking of Terry - he was merely informed that it was happening.
Ciao, addio e arrivederci - RED LENIN

Sorry Red Lenin but you are wrong. No point me trying to give anymore explanations as my last 2 posts have mysteriously not appeared.
I feel you may be making the mistake of taking what the English press call "translation" as being the actual translation!
For what it's worth Gab Marcotti has also confirmed that Capello was mis quoted. Nice to see you took the time to google some Italian though, shows initiative!

Red Lenin this is verbatim
Interviewer to Capello:
"Terry punished for racism, do you agree with the FA's decision to take the arm band off him?"
Capello:
"no absolutely not, I had (pause) I talked to the chairman I said that in my opinion a person cannot be sanctioned until it is official. It will be the court to decide the law not the sports law but the civil courts to say wether or not John Terry has committed the offence of which he was accused.
(Interviewer attempts to ask another question but Capello bullishly ploughs on)
I maintain and I maintained it right that John Terry were able to keep the arm band. The fact that the board had decided on this (pause) is something within their competence when you are dealing with ethics.
End of Terry discussion.
Apparently (and unlike you I'm no expert) he used a particular hypothetical tense which would not be recognised by non Italian speakers that is used in Italian when trying to take a step back from things.
Many people would not understand the nuances of Italian grammar.
The term Terry is still my captain was not used.
Still waiting for my apology especially from Ed001 who has gone very quiet and I'm still not sure where my missing posts went!

Chris in Tamworth

hi guys great website. just disappointed of not winning the game on monday. i just hope we get our revenge soon. now we are away to utd. i just don't know why we have a better record away and not at home. points are being dropped because of the draws. also what i find strange is that when other teams (who are challenge for top 4) lose their games, we don't take the advantage. every time chelsea, arsenal or even newcastle lose or draw a game, we do the exact same thing. what do u guys think?. thanks and ynwa

I think that we should never give a stuff about any other side ever!
Where we need to improve is within ourselves and this will come the more the lads play and train together.

We have already stuffed the Manchester teams out of the Cups. We just need to find that consistency in the League. It will happen.

When we are at our best we can beat any side, anywhere (hit Agree or Disagree). Trust me when I tell you this. Now is the time for others to worry about us. If they don't now, they won't see it coming.

Harry may not after all take the England job as he has been shortlisted for an extremely lucrative position as a tax consultant to Abramovitch. Rafa is a non starter for the England job as he is not English and in any event is too much of a loose cannon for the FA, (remember the Mr Ferguson rant). The FA have apparently decided that regardless of who the best candidate for the England job may be the number one criteria is that they be English. What did we spend? Money for toilet paper? I meant for the first team not for reserves.

09 Feb 2012 11:36:02
Sad to hear Tommo is selling his medal collection. The current squad are handsomely rewarded and could chip in to raise the £120K needed to buy his medal collection. Alternatively the club should buy them and place them in the museum,. Better still why not have a regular summer friendly when we can use the money raised to look after some of our legends who have fallen on hard times. They get cash and we get their medal collections in our museum which will then be exhibited for eternity. Charity begins at home. Reality Red

09 Feb 2012 11:06:53
Tommy Smith is selling his medal collection, and its not for charity.

That is very sad to see that it has come to this for an Anfield legend. The club should buy the medals off him and stick them in a museum.

DownUnderRed.

Smith is my Favorite Liverpool player of all time then Gerrard, then Jimmy Case.

In Smith's day men were men not primadonna sugar plum fairies like we have today, falling around the place for no reason.

Unfortunately all the bone crunching tackles took its toll on Smiths health and he was badly crippled with arthritis although for the last number of years he seems to be doing better.

In the time Smith played he did not earn much money from Liverpool (the money he earned may have been good for that time) but there were certainly no riches to be made from football like there is today. Footballers in those bygone years made there money by starting up businesses and becoming if they were lucky to be successful, If I remember correctly Ray Clemence had something to do with a haulage business with the slogan "Safe in the hands of Ray Clemence".

What a great player and a great Servant Smith has been to Liverpool still does jorrnalistic work and always talks Liverpool up no matter what. And when he has a criticism its always a positive one.

Great man much loved by oul fella's like me in their (early) forties, always an inspiration and role models to kids at that time and to those who thought they were still kids (nothing wrong with that), every time I pulled on a footbal shirt to go play football I always thought of Smith and Case for me no better role models (Gerrard was not around at that time).

Its sad that so many great players end up virtually broke and selling their medals, the younger generation see Torres and Suarez and for some (not all) don't really understand the tremendous contribution made by Smith and other Liverpool greats.

Blinko

How much will the medals he have sell for? The reason I ask is if we can as fans get together and donate as much as each of us can afford to purchase them. We could then allow tommy to keep them on the proviso that when he passes away the medals will be giving to the club museum. Just a thought as it allows the great man to keep them until he passes then the club get them. What are your thoughts on this? Could this be a way forward? Dan T

Agree totally
loved Tommy and what a way to end your career with a bullet header in Rome

come on LFC add a collection of medals to the museum and help him out

bigg

It is a nice idea however , Tommy Smith does not want to keep the medals anymore , he wants someone else to enjow them . Apparently they are sat in a bank somewhere .

I agree , if the club bought them the trophy room & Tommy Smith would benefit .

There is something about a hard player that inspires a supporter . I feel proud to know players like Smith & Souness played for LFC .

All this bull about the Utd fans booing Suarez! Big deal, fans have been booing players for years. Look at what Beckham went thru after the world cup. It's no big deal & Suarez should be able to use the adverse reaction to his own advantage. There's nothing better in life than proving people wrong. Also look at the majority of the best players in the world! They've all got a nasty streak in them, take it away & you won't have the same player. Suarez is no different, he will be fine on Saturday.

Almost totally agree. The only thing I disagree is that I don't think Suarez does have a nasty streak in him, despite what some people think about his 'history'. I think it is more of an 'unpredictable, emotional and fiesty

Sorry, sent it before I finished it! Meant to say 'unpredictable, emotional and fiesty' streak. I reckon the taunts will make him more unplayable. Nick.

Agree totally and i am united.

I know we lost the game, yet not that bothered too much as we lost to a team with good traditions, but your boys spent all game booing evra. Do the real fans cry about it? No we dont as we knoow/knew we would have a chance to do the same to one of yours sooner rather than later.

Banter is what makes this game great and without controversy there would be no banter.

I think Suarez will and should shake the hand of Patrice Evra
before the game on Saturday. I think Ferdinand should also
shake John Terry's hands also. This is because it is in the spirit of the great game, which is always be above personal grudges and politics that should be settled off the field. Football was a game played between British and German soldiers on no-mans land among the horrors of the first world war. Football is a game which unifies man not divides them, even if that union is through human's own instinctive tribalism. To me the FA behave more and more with the arrogance of first world war generals, with no understanding of the passion for the spirit of the game.
They should leave Football to the players
and leave justice to judges, because they are making a mockery of both.

I personally think that since kenny had a word or two with Luis about saturday's game, he'll control his temper or atleast try to control.

man utd supporters will definitely boo him and that sound will be pretty loud since they've got major allocation of tickets and old trafford is a 'big' stadium. Hope Luis will be ready to cope it.

If he showed finger to fulham crowd coz of their booing at craven cottage than the booing he'll received at Old Trafford will be something he never faced in his life.

If he keeps his temperament healthy and composure solid like Silva from Man City he'll be 10 times lethal than he was in current campaign. He'll be a new self.

Hope Kopites will sing louder to drain all the taunts and boos.

Part of suarez game is his temper, tone down the temper too much and you lose the player SAF knew that when he had the Red Mist - Roy Keane.

Just give Luis a pair of mittens, job done.

Hi Ed,

Just wanted to find out if you have any info regarding Jose Enrique. Is he injured? the commentator in the last game said that he had a hamstring strain, there hasn't been much if any news on this. Will he be in contention for the game at old trafford?

Thanks Faizal {Ed002's Note - He is injured and will be tested to see if he is fit.}

Cappelo was total garbage anyway ???? whats the big deal

Capello was a solution which the English FA sought because of their incompetencies........ In fact any manager is.....England do not have the proper credentials to win a summer tournament....

That is why the media look for a scapegoat....And they choose Capello......

On the contrary, Capello was one of the reasons why I thought England had a chance in the Euros...Now they are dead in the water.....

Eds I know this is a liverpool page but who do you think is the best man for the england job harry? Or an experienced successful international manager like scolari...and do you know if cappello will retire or carry on with club football, in my opinion one of the best managers wins something everywhere he goes.

KingMiz {Ed001's Note - personally I think someone like 'Arry would be triffic, it would allow him more time to park up by Sly Spurts each day and open bank accounts in random pets names.}

I wonder if it would be possible for 'Arry to manage both Spurs and England?

He only copes with Spurs because it is a small squad with very few big ego players.

Wonder i arry could open an account for our charlie. he could name it jack russell..

robbie

Harry is a great team manager, but what has he done in Europe? It's one thing to pit your wits in the english game but European and World football is a completely different thing. Not enough experience in my opinion, No to Rednapp...Bobbinred

Last night I happened to catch a replay of last year's visit to OT when we lost 3-2 courtesy of a Berbatov hatty.

That aside, I cringed when I saw what players we had running around - Paul Konchesky at left-back, Poulsen running around in midfield (with Lucas on the bench), and the subs used were Ngog and Jovanovic (and Agger who replaced Konchesky).

Then I saw clueless old Roy. It really got me thinking just how much better off we are this season. Nothing to do with points, league position etc. With Roy and that squad last season, I had little optimism for what laid ahead.

While at times this season we have performed below par, we havent really played our stongest eleven together for any run of games - missing Stevie, Suarez, Lucas, and now Enrique.

There are enough games left for us to get a CL spot - we have to get some consistency (obviously) and this will come through fielding our strongest eleven regularly. The squad has not been together long enough to adapt easily when the team is changed so regularly.

I am optimistic people that we are definitely heading in the right direction and that success is not far away - I am obviously a little more prepared than some to take a ride to get there.

Chin up, chest out and be proud - we are LFC

LIVERPRES

Liverpres - You must be in Oz mate cause I caught that same replayed match.
Your right - talk about a cringeworthy team - Poulsen, Konchesky, Jovanovic, N'gog, Joe Cole, Fernando Torres - absolutely shocking players (to be fair Konchesky was probably the best of them in that match), but what really had me laughing was Glen Johnson's hair - Funny as

Beautifully said mate. Damn. I love posts just like that. Passionate and positive and real. That's a Liverpool fan. Love it. Let's roll behind this sentiment and our redmen till the end of the season. 1000% full on support. And 4th is there for the taking.

Good post buddy I can actually sense a shock on the cards come Saturday. Still bricking it as usual though.

I think Benitez should be considered for the England job.
He has a great CV, knows English football, lives here and has great Eurpean success.
Just a thought

Who cares just another thought!

"I'm sure people will want to talk about Luis Suarez, but he accepted his ban, served his suspension and returned against Spurs on Monday. It's time for all of us to draw a line under what happened and move forward.

"People are already speculating on the pre-match ceremony, but from Luis's point of view we have spoken to him and I know he will shake the hand of Patrice Evra and the other Manchester United players before the game."

Looks like Suarez will start on Saturday, hope Carroll does aswell he's improved alot recently.

Keaner LFC

I think the line should drawn under this as well . Suarez is the best player by far at liverpool , and has served his ban , and would probably like this to go away . The problem is , Kenny cant keep his mouth shut and has stirred it all up again .
Davo

We need pace to get at man utd at the centre of the defence, some one with close ball control , i have not seen any thing to suggest carrol as this .

As a Utd fan I have to say the whole debacle was handled very poorly by media, fa, and mostly kd. I think he made himself and as a result your club look backward for use of a better word. the fact he refuses to drop it is a little insulting to suarez who probably does want it all forgotten.

Suarez ban was justified in reference to the charge of racist/abusive language, any argument against that is support of biggotry in the game. Evra should have recieved a ban as well, although not as long. But wish it had been to end of the season so we dont have to put up with his 'captain-worthy' displays anymore.

I hope the game is end to end action with both teams scoring a lot of goals and united edging it 10-9 ;)
