Hi Eds and Reds, someone I really trust for info, they are usually correct with what they know, anyway they were saying huth will be scoring for us, so if there are right with this one I can't wait.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What are you smoking over there Tel?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Chi Paul. this is very new but I know that when some of the lads on here who are in the know should back me on this.

Agree0 Disagree0

You're incredibly gullible Tel. It was banter

Agree0 Disagree0

Tel 1963, any chance of you picking a new name, people may think we are related??

Agree0 Disagree0

Huth has a habit of scoring own goals so hopefully they are right.

Hi folks, just registered. Have been following the site for over a year and have to say it is brilliant. Am over the moon Agger has been given the vice captaincy, well deserved. Would also like to thank the Eds for all the hard work they put in to make this site what it is. Great work. On a final note I haven't been this optimistic about a season since 2005/06, am really pleased with the signings and the way Mr. Rodgers has us playing. As another poster said previously "Rome wasn't built in a day". I believe the foundations are being laid for a period of sustained success in the forthcoming years and I'm first in the queue for a ticket for the roller coatser. {Ed002's Note - Welcome.}

The hardest working person in football is our public relations officer.
Luis Suarez
Raheem Sterling
Badly managed finances

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2013 22:46:23
at the mometn I am tied, because i'm optimistic about the team but I also recognise that we need two players. a defensive player and most importantly a winger or attacking midfielder. I can see aspas as a good bench player but I can't see us getting top four without another attacking minded player. what are your opinions

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I try not to read too much into squad numbers, but would they really give the number 9 to 'a good squad player'? I would be surprised if Aspas wasn't a key player this season and starting many games.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 23:46:16
I couldn't agree more to be honest mate.

Jam2275

Agree0 Disagree0

RDL, I believe the players get to choose there numbers, I remember Suarez sayin he didn't know our number 7 was so significant, he jus seen it was available and took it and Joe Allen was asked what number he wanted on that Being Liverpool program.

Agree0 Disagree0

RDL, Brad Jones is No 1. Whatever is available at the time I imagine it would be very very rare that a club would say no you can't have that number (for 1st team squad signings of course).

Agree0 Disagree0

RDL I think you may be right there fella, a cheeky £10 bet on Aspas being top goal scorer in the prem next season?. from what I've seen he has everything, Suarez who?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 22:08:32
To the Ed's and Reds, What is the problem with Agger? Will he be available for the stoke game as he is not in the squad for the celtic game. We can't start the season with coates against stoke as skittle looks like going. Please tell me I'm wrong, Thanks.

Ynwa

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Kelly or Wisdom would start ahead of Coates, I'd trust either of them to partner Toure for a little while

Agree0 Disagree0

I would think Wisdom would probably get the nod over Coates if it came down to it, personally. I'm sure Agger will be fine to play against Stoke, but if not Toure + Wisdom is not exactly awful.

Hey lfc fans

I have a question for the eds. or anyone else.

So last year we had no forward line bar sureaz. because we let caroll go with no replacement, and we didn't get any one else either. So we were short for half a season upfront. And we were short in other areas. it was a bit of a mess.

This summer. Why is brendan selling first instead of guaranteeing players coming in. it seems like the club didn'tlearn from last season.

If downing an skrtel go. it leaves us in trouble. 2 wingers. Not enough forwards. short if kolo or agger get injured.

I thought a bigger squad was the key eds? I'm worried and really confused because we have less players than last season

Red lobster

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Downing, Suarez, Coutinho, Aspas, Sturridge, Borini, Assaidi, Sterling, Ibe, Sinclair, Morgan, Yesil, Pacheco.

13 players for 3 positions. Yes, some are youngsters and will probably not feature much, yes some will probably leave, but there is still plenty of time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Downing, Suarez, assaidi, Morgan, Pacheco gone or going! Great knowledge fel

Agree0 Disagree0

We are definitely a bit lightweight as it stands.

Don't doubt the club is working like a Trojan to make appropriate signings.

Maybe the reality is somewhere in between.

Agree0 Disagree0

At the start of last season we didn't have Sturridge, Coutinho, Aspas, Alberto & Ibe. I make that 5 more attacking players available to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 22:00:52
West Ham are closing in on signing of Liverpool winger Stewart Downing for 5 million pounds.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2013 21:52:42
Another defeat for man u, I think moyes doing well!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Even no it's just pre season a few of my m8 s are Man U fans even they are un sure, and think they should have gone for big name manager I know that don't mean much but questions from fans already
Ynwa

Agree0 Disagree0

It will take some time before the Man U players get used to Moye's "Hoof and run" technique. So, they will be fine.

Agree0 Disagree0

I always though it would be a tad embarrassing to lose at your own testimonial. Realize it doesn't really matter, but still.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don`t know if Moyes will struggle BUT It ain`t looking too good.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2013 09:03:00
i would say its looking very good.lol

Agree0 Disagree0

As funny as it would be to see them fall from grace, we should not be tempted to behave like they did to us by becoming obsessed.
Stick to supporting LFC and watch their decline with a respectful silence.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 21:48:39
Hey eds now that Cissokho is almost done.

Will the next move be in getting a CB in after sorting out Skrtel's future or back to an attacking player? {Ed002's Note - I really cannot put things in order.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The correct order is:
get Cissokho in, order some pizza and drinks, party like its 1964, then consider bringing in a ball boy.
Child please!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 21:46:10
Reminding me of last years summer window plenty of rumours but players seemingly turning us down to go elsewhere such as Mkhitaryan or Costa signing his extension. Happy with the 4 we have signed but we are still well short in numbers especially out wide, and as thing stand the squad does not look as good as the others challenging for top 4

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't understand all the comments about lacking depth - IMO the 22 man squad going to Dublin is decent - add Skrtel/Agger and Suarez -good squad with an attacking intent.
With Downing, Assaidi, Ibe, Sterling - we have width - I would love one more quality attacker and I think we would be set for the season, but if we didn't I would still be happy - bring it on!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 21:14:36
Hearing that Diego Costa may have signed an extension to his contract. This however, does not mean that Atletico will not sell, they may have just put the where negotiations start that bit higher.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I believe it has the manager whose contract was extended because the club started getting some success. They used to give one-year contracts

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think we will go higher than the figure being bandied about. Also, if Costa has signed a contract extension, with only 3 weeks of the window to go, I would expect him to stay.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2013 16:55:02
Where have you heard this? Certainly isn't reported on any major sports sites or even twitter. {Ed002's Note - A new contract is certainly being negotiated.}

Anybody reckon now Downing etc going/gone is Tom Once an option?

Just asking.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry Tom Ince

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope the header from Huth is an own goal, otherwise it means he is playing for us. I know it looks like we might be getting a bit desperate for a CB with a bit of experience, I didn't think things had got that bad

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 21:54:51
Kelly is ready to step up for cb in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm still told that Tom Ince is not being considered. As I've said before jan seems like the time it was going to happen, since then the club have moved on, highlighted by our recent signings and linked players plus the emergence of Sterling and in particular Ibe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't he go extremely quiet in the 2nd half of the season so would consistency not be an issue? Then you consider quality of stepping up to PL. Then you look at Sterling and Ibe and go is he even better than them so why bother?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we are still interested in Ince. Sterling & Ibe are great prospects but have nowhere near Inces goal threat and are 2 yrs or more behind him in terms of playing with the men rather than the boys. I could see the Downing money being used to capture Tom.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 20:47:28
Hi eds. Not a man u bashing statment, but how do you think they will perform this season, they seem to be struggling. {Ed002's Note - They will be third in the league. They will get to the 6th round of the FA Cup but lose out to an offside goal scored by Bony of Swansea. The will lose in the League Cup semi final to Liverpool to an 84th minute header from Robert Huth. They will be beaten in the Champions League quarter final by Dortmund.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Do Liverpool win the league cup ed or shall I not bother going? {Ed002's Note - Although Huth (or Huthinho as he will then be called by the faithful) scores again for Liverpool in the semi final, sadly it is not enough to fend off the Spurs attack.

Well Fellow Reds

Today is a good day to be a Liverpool fan

1. Big John has to be applauded, many of the Liverpool faithful has given J Henry a hard time since taking the club over, however I believe that the way he has backed the manager and orchestrated the latter scenario of the Suarez affair has been top draw. We have been asking for a strong owner for a long time and finally Big John has come up trumps.
2. Dagger has been given the vice captancy, great choice by the manager, only Lucus should have come close. With Barcelona mouching around, a great decision to try and keep the man. I was more worried about Agger going than Suarez. Great move.
3. Jay has gone - I don't mean I am glad he is gone, I am glad he has got his move to a club that I think he will progress and flourish as a player. Jay has been as commited as anyone at the club and I wish him the best. If only Suarez had his commitment then he wouldd be worth 100 mil.
4. It looks as if Cissokho has signed, if so he could be a really good addition.
5, Sturridge is bach for Saturday, can't wait to see him play.

All looking good fellow Reds, if Suarez goes, he will go abroad (no problem with that), and we have money to buy our target, so all is good, have faith in Big John, slowly but surely we will rise to the top

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with almost everything, except I'm sure EVERYDAY is a good day to be a Liverpool fan.

09 Aug 2013 20:28:45
hi eds, do you think if we bought another top class player that would make suarez do a u-turn and want to stay at the club, that's if real madrid don't come in for him,

after last season it shows with a bit more luck we would have finished a lot higher and with sturridge and couthinio then i'm filled with hope that we will finish higher up the table this season

mickey b {Ed002's Note - No, he wants out.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 20:01:10
got to say I check news now most days but the last few weeks they have had some strange stories under the lfc news today its involving bins and collections and disputes maybe its suggesting saurez is as news worthy as the bins dispute or just seen dispute and thought it must have been saurez but its was certainly better than reading any more rubbish from him that's for sure
unless that's his punishment to get training with the first team a week collecting rubbish would be a different approach rather than fines ;-)

Hi to all reds in the US. what's the best tv package to get over here to see the pl.
Just recently moved over here and have no idea!
Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I found this on the net,

"All 380 games of the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League season will be presented live on NBC Sports Group’s television and digital properties as well as other NBCUniversal channels. NBC Sports Group’s schedule, which begins on Saturday, August 17, includes live matches on NBC, NBC Sports Network, Telemundo, Mun2, the Premier League Extra Time package of overflow television channels, the NBC Sports Live Extra website and app, and other NBCUniversal channels including CNBC and USA"

abbs

Agree0 Disagree0

You will be wanting to get Comcast Xfinity Preffered, gives you Fox Soccer, Fox Sports, ESPN and NBC Sports who will be showing every single premier league game live, until 2017 :D

Agree0 Disagree0

NBC so bought to rights, so its going to be on regular cable I think. They have made a lot of noise about showing a record amount of live games. All games will be streamed live on their website, you just need your cable login to access. There will be no extra cost. It sounds awesome.

Agree0 Disagree0

MiamiRed, where can you buy the Comcast Xfinity from as i'm from England and want to be able to watch all Premiership games especially Liverpool FC if possible? {Ed002's Note - It won't work in England.}

Agree0 Disagree0

It's completely insane that you can watch every premier league match in any country apart from here.

09 Aug 2013 23:40:17
@DBol That's because here in Britain we get ripped off for everything. Like it's cheaper to drive to France for you alcohol and tobacco than it is to go to the Spar

Agree0 Disagree0

"The transfer fee, which could rise to £6m based his on appearances for west ham, West Ham and Downing are at an advanced stage over terms, with one of the stumbling blocks being the player's wages of around £80,000 a week. But Liverpool are prepared to pay up some of his remaining contract to facilitate the deal, and it could be finalised as early as next week"

ssn journalist Pete O'Rourke reporting West Ham close to signing Downing. I thought this one came and went about a month ago, rumoured, then West Ham said too expensive and decided to look elsewhere?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought the move broke down because Downing wanted to stay and fight for his place, now it seems like he won't be first choice I wouldn't be surprised if it was resurrected.

Hi ed's, with reference to my post from last week. it seems west hams interest did still remain as he looks likely to be signing for them!
Have a good weekend

06 Aug 2013 09:13:23
Hi ed's
Mentioned a few times previously that Sunderland and Newcastle were both tracking Downing. This is still the case as is also being reported in the press (certainly the newcastle part anyway).also told a while back about West Ham holding an interest but I have no idea if this remains the case.

Spearing as I keep saying is looking Bolton or Blackburn bound with Blackpool and Wigan seemingly less likely. However should McCarthy move in the near future then don't rule Wigan out.

I've also had Sunderland mentioned as a possible loan destination for Coates but even I don't believe the guy who told me this as it doesn't make sense. He's been right before but I doubt him on this occasion if I'm honest! Then again, no harm in posting it and if he's right ill take it all back!

Have a good day
Cheers

Hello Eds and fellow kopites,
Now sky saying Downing is close to Joining West Ham and we know Assaidi will also be leaving. So that leaves us with Sturridge, Aspas, Borini, Sterling and Ibe as attacking options so would it be fair to say atleast 2 attackers will be coming in?
My choices Diego Costa and Muriel but my gut feeling Costa and Atsu.
What do you reckon?
Also I haven't included Suarez and Alberto as I still believe we will sell Suarez for anything above 40M but just not to Arsenal and so far I reckon BR sees Luis Alberto in midfield.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2013 18:35:23
Downing has agreed to join West ham - that's what I'm hearing (4year deal)

Really happy with Danny Agger being named as the new vice-captain.

Also really pleased that Brendan mentioned Jordan Henderson as a great leader, hopefully he'll really kick on this season. The boy has so much more potential and would love to see him with the captains armnband for both LFC and England.

Congratulations Daniel great appointment! Huge shoes to fill after carra but you deserve it! How good would it now be If dirk can do us all a favour and bag a few against arsenal they loose out on qualification to the champions league and wenger gets the boot for not pleasing there fans with no big signings because it's clearly never going to happen with Suarez! I just can't wait for the stoke game now in my opinion we don't need anybody else!

Got to say I'm really pleased we have Mignolet in goal. He is a brilliant shot stopper and I think that's an area in which Reina has started to struggle. Good with feet, and seems pretty intelligent.

Really enjoyed watching Aspas so far as well. He looks like he gets in the right areas to score and make chances and hardly stops running - could turn out to be an absolute bargain!

Much to look forward to next weekend.

Nice timing on the Agger vice-captaincy, he deserves rewarding for his loyalty last summer anyway. Wonder who'll be the vice-vice-captain though if his injury problems rear their ugly head again? Hopefully we won't have to find that out any time soon. Well done DA.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He will probably promise to do it, then back out at the last second. (handshake)

Mascherano liked with move back.

Seems odd as 29yrs old, I suspect high earner and didn't leave clean like Alonso, Spearing etc

Is this just lazy press, is it planting seeds of thoughts towards an offer in the Agger chase? {Ed002's Note - No idea. Sorry.}

Looking at the signings Spurs have made this window they look a shoe in for top four.

We all think Chelsea and Man City must also be there.

So, fourth between Arsenal, Utd, LFC and many any others you think viable, like Swansea maybe?

Guess the last 3 weeks of the window left and european games others have to play, will hopefully see us nab that last place

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think Spurs' signings make them a shoo in at all, their squad was very light last season and they only did so well because of a magnificent season from Bale. Paulinho is undoubtedly a good player but he's a bit of a risk having come from South America, and far from certain to hit the ground running - Soldado will undoubtedly score goals but Bale will probably score a lot less than he did last year so that might balance out. If Bale has a season as good as last year then they will probably make top 4 but if not, or if they sell him and fail to replace him, I would hope that we're competing with them (and others) for 4th spot.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't say shoe in just because they have boughtlayers for big fees.

How do you know they will adapt or even gel into our league?

They may still lose Bale and possibly Vertonghen, which if happens are two really big players for them.

Can we get off the doom and gloom? We've just assured Agger is staying with us which is a plus.

I still think we will make signings too.
For me Papadopulos and/or Alderweireld plus Capel, Eriksen and a new centre forward and I think we have a good chance.

Hi fellow reds, I for one waited patiently for a 'board' update all day Thursday from London_red. Maybe he will post today that luis is going to be forced to train alone lol! I've heard strong rumours from inside the club that the cyan toner is almost out in Ian ayres office printer and there I a shortage of waiters in the board room biscuit selection! . Keep smiling reds its going to be an interesting season!

Fortunately, magenta and yellow are the only 2 toners that Ayre needs. ;)

Hi Eds & Reds,

Just for a bit of a change from the usual who said what to whom about our favourite Uruguyan, I'd be interested to get people's insights into the hottest youth prospects in the game at the moment.

We have a few here, names I've come across (given I don't get to see many of the youth games) include Rossiter, Sama, Sergio Canos to name a few. Would be great to hear abouth others including their potential strengths & weaknesses.

Also, given the Eds insights into other teams and rumours, what non-Liverpool young talents are likely to be commanding the £50m+ fees in the next few years.?

Just a bit of Friday afternoon banter!

Z {Ed002's Note - Seems like a blast. Yassine Benzia.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mind the spelling but Texiera looks a bit special for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stephen sama looks classy any time I have seen him for the reserves

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed, the wit does not go un-noticed! Looks a great prospect - scored 2 in the U19 Euros recently too.

Texiera looks a bit tasty too!

Agree0 Disagree0

Without a question Adel Taarabt. I reckon when he comes of age he will be the first 150 million pound player the way the market is going. Check him out on youtube. He is unbelievable. They are calling him the Moroccan Messi.

Agree0 Disagree0

Will Hughes looks like a great prospect.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd agree with benzia I'd also say tonny vilhena and anass achahbar of feyenoord then more obviously raphael varane of Madrid looks incredible

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd also throw in adryan, julian draxler, adam maher and mbaye niang. I can see all of these having 30 million plus transfers in their careers

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit of a random name, but I like the look of Alen Halilović from Dinamo Zagreb.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously loopervil, I hope you're having a laugh.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Will Hughes could be a big player for England if he can keep his head down - but admittedly I've only seen him on youtube. I've seen Jonathan Williams play for Palace and Wales a few times and I think he could have a bit of a breakthrough year this year, he's a very useful young player, great ball control for someone so young. In the Liverpool team I've been consistently impressed by Teixeira (and I think Ibe and Sterling could be our starting wingers for many many years if they keep progressing as they are).

Agree0 Disagree0

Inside LFC; Coutinho, Raheem Sterling, Jordan Ibe, Suso, Andre Wisdom, Luis Alberto, Joao Carlos Teixeira, Ryan McLaughlin, Brad Smith, Jack Dunn, Jerome Sinclair, Samed Yesil, Seyi Ojo, Jordan Rossiter, Sergi Canos, Pedro Chirivella, Cameron Brannagan, Alex O'Hanlon, Nacho Ortiz, Kristof Polgar, and Yalany Baio.

Outside of LFC; Viktor Fischer, Romelu Lukaku, Julian Draxler, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Marquinhos, Gerard Deulofeu, M'Baye Niang, Victor Andrade, Adam Maher, Will Hughes, Jetro Willems, Lucas Digne, Jurgen Locadia, Leandro Paredes, Kurt Zouma, Douglas Baggio, and Max Meyer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oliver torres at athletico madrid for me :)

Agree0 Disagree0

If you go by youtube, then Assaidi would be even better as he's known as the Moroccan Ronaldo. He's the reason that Taarabt doesn't get a place in the National Team (Even the Moroccan manager agrees)

Agree0 Disagree0

I liked what I saw of nicolas lopez sukuta pasu Paolo Henrique there is probably loads more but only ones I could remember names of

p.s. seen Spurs have just signed Capoue. they've spent about 60million so far, where is all there money coming from without CL? {Ed002's Note - They have no shortage of money and they have been saving up whilst Liverpool has been out their spending.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes remember we waisted over 60 million on carrol, downing and charlie Adam!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah but we got 60 mil from torres and babel

Agree0 Disagree0

Ouch! 60 million on those guys! Sorry but we will still be paying for that over the next 3 transfer windows (1-2 yrs). You can't blow that much money (net spend or whatever) on that kind of 'kwality' and soldier on.

And we also got £23mill for Carol and Adam plus likely to get another £6-7 mill for Downing if he goes. So Overall not too bad

Hi eds and fellow reds. Great job btw love the site. Ok I have a couple of questions 1. I heard a while ago on tv that we was odds on favorite with bookies to sign defoe personally I rate him highly I know his age is a problem but for a smallish fee do you know of anything maybe? 2. This anfield capacity increase do you know when it will begin thanks. Have a great day eds and reds! Hi Eds. I know you do not like talking finances. I kinda doubt you'll answer this, but hey, I'd like to know.

With the confirmed outgoings, including loans. How is the wage bill as it stands? I'm not looking for figures of course, but I've seen before posts suggesting LFC are losing £50m a year

I would like to know, to have an idea if any further players need to be sold. With what has gone against what has come in, are we in a much better/safer position.

Are we close to or on target with no concerns for the FFP IF that were to come in?

Any kind of insight would be nice. Thanks {Ed002's Note - I'll try and answer this after the transfer window has closed and I have a little time.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks Ed. Hope that's not a brush off . I'll look out for any posts after the window re finances.

It seems like a big statement to make if we do end up selling him to Arsenal then he's words could backfire. {Ed002's Note - I did not say he was "just" doing that. I had heard qpr but thought it was unlikely as although he hasn't had a huge impact he has looked decent enough when selected and ther is rumoured interest from decent ditch sides so surely he is a better player than championship standard? And with his low wages etc surely would make more sense to either keep as squad player or sell and replace

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Get the best deal on Suarez, and sell him.

If he doesn't want to play for you accept it and move on. A whole array of decent footballers can be bought for £40 Mil.

This intransigence by the administration is not smart, just stubborn.

If Suarez is not sold, he will go awol in Uruguay a la Tevez.

Then nobody wins.

If Arsenal were to bid for him, do you suppose it would prompt Madrid to finally submit a bid for Suarez as a replacement? {Ed002's Note - Madrid will bid for Suarez if they want to - it is nothing to do with Arsenal or Benzema. That way, the entire blame can be focused on the agent thus taking away any direct blame on the player.

Isn't all this posturing by the club running the risk of making us look a little silly? I understand the need to wait for a decent bid, but coming out and saying Suarez will not be sold is a bit daft. Surely he's burnt his bridges now. I have to say I would be really unhappy if we sell him without a decent replacement in the wings. And worse still to Arsenal. There are so many conflicting reports that as much as I want to believe what the club are saying, I have a niggling doubt that he will be sold to one of our biggest competitors for a top four place. {Ed002's Note - Yes. The club is now seemingly doing a lot of business in the public domain which indeed opens the door to ridicule. Add to that the Mr Henry taking to behaving like a bonehead and the media will have a field day.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don`t agree. I get the point that things have become too public BUT in my opinion, Arsenal and Suarez brought this to the public so I wouldn`t blame him for that (the tweet was kind of childish though). Cynics will always talk but he`s the owner and sometimes they need to come out and voice their opinion on the situation. We can disagree on the manner BUT he`s taking a stand and should be applauded in my view. {Ed002's Note - Arsene Wenger answered a question honestly and as a club they have done little if anything wrong. JWH has made the knee jerk reaction the media always hope for and thrive off. Like it or not, it is embarrassing to say the least.}

Agree0 Disagree0

For me the bid of 40 mil + 1pound was taking the mick out of lfc and what JWH said it may look daft for none lfc fans . But for Liverpool fan it shows we are being strong and we are not taking any bull from clubs and Suarez . If you want him bid BIG and NOW! {Ed002's Note - Of course it wasn't "taking the mick".}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think 40m for Suarez is actually about right with the baggage he comes with.

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously, the best course of action would be to keep everything in house and not comment on such things to the media.

However, it would seem from Mr Henry's comments that a lot has gone on in house for quite a while in regards to dealing with this that has never been mentioned. Arsenal were told we would not sell to them *before* they made their first bid. Suarez and his agent were told that we wanted to keep him but failing that, any move had to happen early and on the terms the club wished so a replacement could be found. all good and sound in house management and dealings.

And it would have stayed that way had Suarez not done his latest DF move of telling the press he had some mythical promise with a manager that was in place a whole week when that promise would have to have been made that he (Suarez) could be sold if CL wasn't met (despite Suarez as being quoted in the meida in Jan of this year saying that he would stay no matter the status of LFC qualification).

So, basically Suarez publicly lied and massively disrespected the club. This caused our manager to have to answer questions and issue a public statement to counter it. So, then our owner comes out and backs the managers move.

In a situation with little choice and fewer still positive outcomes, I think the statements and comments of Rodgers and Henry were rather excellent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Eds
Heard a rumour that Luis Suarez is going to do the biggest U-turn ever by coming out & committing his future to the club & this will come out today. If this is true I think that it will just be his hand forced by John Henry, apparently there was some comments from Suarez in Marca saying he loves the club, fans, blah blah blah, again not sure how true that was but starting to get confused by him. Personally as much as a great player he is we can't afford to have his attitude ruin our rebuilding. I think if this rumour about him committing himself to us is true then I think its only going to be until next season then all this will start again, then if he is not playing well & having a attitude problem his form may dip & his value will plummet. In this stupid market his value must be around £55-60million, I'd say more £70-80million but his on the field problems drop his value. I think Liverpool must sell now & I think John Henry's comments were a bit of poker playing. I think Liverpool have replacements lined up & if we can afford to get them in without relying on the Suarez money it would put us in a great position to sell Suarez, replacement in, Henry saying he won't be sold so hopefully a foreign club will come in at the end and pay us silly money for him to try & make us sell when Henry probably wants to sell anyway, again it could be great Poker playing by John Henry, he did it with Torres & now he seems to be doing it with Suarez to get best price. Either way I think this needs sorting quickly, we need to be looking forward to Stoke next week & getting first 3 points on the board. I trust the owners as in my opinion the work they have done behind the scenes stabilising this club & bringing it back from the brink has been amazing, I believe in Brendan Rodgers as I do think he has the potential to be something special & I believe this football club is bigger than any player & this club will be challenging in the near future with or without Luis Suarez.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Henry is right at one point: we will not get a player of Suarez caliber. And it's not even about time. We simply can not get a replacement of the same playing level.
Of course Henry is a diplomat so he only said half of a sentence, other half to be figured out by readers :)
But the fact is: we are not able to sell Suarez and get equally good replacement. Maybe the money factor can change this, but then it has to be very big money and not from a rival club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said John, I believe John Henry is a very shrewd businessman and he like most of us has had enough of the Suarez situation. I think his statement will either get the clubs that are interested in Suarez to come forward or make Suarez realise he does not hold all the strings and he has to buckle down say sorry to the club and fans that have stood by him then show his brilliance on the field for L.F.C. {Ed002's Note - It won't make any difference to clubs considering making a bid or not.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He is not doing anything but signing for the first non epl team to offer a decent price. Thankfully.

Agree0 Disagree0

Regardless of whether or not he makes a statement today, I can;'t see anything past Luis being the central figure in Real Madrid's 3 man attack. £55m-£60m is a fair price but I think he will sell for a considerable amount lower to Real Madrid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with much of this.

Only thing I would add is that Henry's comments indicate to me he is willing to string this out until January - meaning he won't allow the price to be dictated by the looming end of this transfer window.

In that scenario, Saurez could potentially be loaned out until Jan? Maybe give Napoli a call .

Agree0 Disagree0

IF the right price came, Suarez will go and it ill be naïve to think that lfc is not working on replacements. However time is running out and suarez knows this so the bid had to happen now or else, no dice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez outside melwood this morning . stopped and signed some shirts for a couple of kids . wouldn't be the actions of someone who didn't wanna be there . Maybe it is true that he's going nowhere and now its all been resolved . Sure Arsenal will put in another bid because he hasn't had a good transfer window. Guess we shall see this wend if he starts for the Celtic match

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suarez should be ashamed of his actions over the past few months.
If somebody offers a handshake and a signature and his employers increase his salary and he backs it up with statements to the world and then a short time later goes back on them you have to think "Can this person ever be trusted?" At the moment LFC unfortunately needs his ability to get them back into the champions league. The sooner that happens the better and then he must be sold to the highest bidder and then its their problem.
Good luck to the reds for the coming season

Hi Ed02, is it true arsenal have bid 51 mil?
I would definitely say yes! {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

Bang on DaveyBootle a bit naive and ill advised at the start but clearly have the clubs best interest at heart and have done well the last transfer window and this one and not taking tihs from LS.

I agree, and as you are one of the better posters, this makes me feel even more secure.

Frankly, I think they couldn't be much more different from the cowboys H&G.

Agree0 Disagree0

Still not bowled over by them but not selling him to a rival is a smart move and one that I totally support . arsenal have a tough draw with the turks and might not even make the champs league proper .

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. I wouldn`t say they were naïve. They were ill-advised would be my thinking. Henry is ready to draw this out and make sure the club`s interests are secured whatever the outcome may be. Take a bow, JWH!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fair enough ed but my point is if he's playing for Liverpool I will support him it's just I've seen him struggle whenever I've watched him same way I've never been impressed with khedira even though he's held in such high regard. {Ed002's Note - I am glad that you will be giving him support. You won't need to worry about Khedira moving to Liverpool of course.}

Holy Crap, JWH has put himself in a difficult situation! I think all he said is to get the best fee possible and hopeful of Suarez outside the PL.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

American owners don`t care about players and their attitudes. They do not tolerate insubordination and player tantrums. The club comes first and suarez will go ONLY when Henry says so. {Ed002's Note - You keep harping on about "American owners" and it really is a pointless exercise. All JWH is after a considerable period of restraint doing is demonstrating a level of naivety in respect of the ownership of a European football team.}

With Cody and suso and Robinson out on loan any chance one of the Liverpool ed's could do a update on how the lads are getting on every so often??? {Ed002's Note - Someone did at one time provide a regular update of the loaned out players - if there is a poster who wishes to pick up on that I will make sure it gets posted.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Coady played in Sheffield Utd's last match, but they lost 1-0; Robinson was also involved in Blackpool's defeat last weekend; he played well that match I heard.

Eds, you'll likely spend less hours creating a 'loan players updates' section than you would spending eternity instructing folks to RTP. {Ed001's Note - unfortunately the people who repeat questions are also too lazy to read anything other than their own posts.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I normally watch the championship. Robinson was one of blackpools better players, didn't really deserve to lose. Coady had a so.so game. Looked competent, nothing to tell you about really.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, I will be more than happy to pick this up on a regular basis, we are going to have a substantial number of players on loan this season, it's easy to forget about Adorjan at Groningen and Mukendi at Partick Thistle . {Ed002's Note - I appreciate it and look forward to the updates.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Watched the Blackpool game. Robbo did ok/well. Very similar to usual to be honest, you've seen him play for us. He has good periods, does some great defending and also during the game gets beat of makes a mistake.
Overal I would say solid, but it wasn't against high level opposition

Hey Eds,

I know we're interested in a centre back to allow us to get rid of skrtel and improve the squad but hvs there actually been genuine interest such as an enquiry or bid?

If possible, can you give me any names or if there hasn't been any, is kolo toure it as I doubt he is what we are looking for as a replacement? {Ed002's Note - This has been done to death - Papadopoulos, Alderweireld, Ilori. Ed02,
I would be happy to hear your take on the Henry interview in the Telegraph. Good move? Bad move? I'm surprised by the tone I must say.

I get the whole thing, LS want out, the club wanting him out a long time ago, a large part of the fans wants him out by now. So, why this? Still looking for a higher (won't say 'realistic') bid, prefererly from outside of England. Or is even he fed up by the antics, showing him and other clubs that we actually will keep him (until January? Next season?) 'til everyone (LS party that is) involved shows an appropriate amount of respect in this matter?

Good thing to push the price up I suppose. But I still expect him to be sold to RM, with transfer request, in the region of £40M (but let's not go there, because I have no clue and it's not that relevant for me.)

{Ed002's Note - It is largely posturing and, as far as I am concerned, a little shove in the back of Suarez to force a transfer request to be submitted (which is worth £2M plus to Liverpool). Knee jerk reactions are oft regretted and quite frankly none of this should be happening in public. Mr Henry does however need to be careful about being disrespectful to other clubs, whether they in his view deserve it or not. It will eventually reflect badly on Liverpool and the good reputation has been tarnished enough by the Toxic One already.

I think we are well beyond pushing the price up or down, but the efforts continue to get other bids on the table.

The winners out of all of this are the media of course - they will, in the main, lap this up. And I don't suppose for one minute that is what the club or the owners want.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2013 10:46:15
The Toxic One is a fantastic way to refer to DF.

To address 002's other point: the media have been opportunistic historically. The posturing will absolutely embellish every last word by Henry - predictable and expected.

Hi guys well another twist your owner saying he will not sell to arsenal . Think he may regret saying that because at the end of the day the player still wants to leave and knowing the players temperament this will become a big big problem to Liverpool .Henry says he won't sell abroad to anyone. no time to bring a player in to the club, I think this situation just got worse because of his comments Liverpool will sell in the end they have no choice . Negotiate is the key word and what better team to do it with lol up the gunners

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are just waiting for you to get knocked out of the CL by Fenerbahce and then you can have him for the right price.

Agree0 Disagree0

We can't lose, we hold his contract, he will always give 100% once he's on that pitch, he can't help himself, he just loves to play football.
So we won't sell to an Arsenal side that has been on the decline for 8 seasons now although admittedly scraping into the top4 (by just a single point last season) in that time.
I predict Wenger will be gone before the seasons out and Lfc will be back in the top4.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2013 08:37:43
I think Jw is saying he won't be sold is true, I think he may well go on loan to Real Madrid for a season with a decent down payment and a player coming in the opposite direction, not in the know just my opinion, that way what Jw says is true eh is still a Liverpool player and he has not be sold

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No it's not true. It's aimed at pressing Suarez into submitting a TR I think, thereby making sure the DF doesn't get the additional £2 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely the two million would only be a matter of principle?

I can't see that being the case at all.

We're talking big numbers with any potential transfer so the two million is peanuts in comparison. {Ed002's Note - It is more than 1% of the total annual turnover of the football club Davey. If Liverpool see that as "peanuts" then fine.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely it would be simpler for the club to just tell Suarez he has to put in a request? {Ed002's Note - He knows that.}

Just reading on ssn that John W henry has said that Luis Suarez will not be sold for any price, in my eyes a man is only as good as his word, if a man shakes another mans hand it is an agreement that he will not go back on as he shows dignity and pride within himself, Luis Suarez should honour his contract with Liverpool, If you keep going the way your going you will just end up like Carlos Tevez and Mario Balloteli getting froze out and hated by the people that used to chant your name, Go into a room by yourself and just think of what you are actually doing and how you are turning every red man, women and child against you, Think yourself lucky that you are pulling on the same shirt as the likes of Kenny Daglish, Ian Rush, John Alldridge, Peter Beadsley, Ian Callaghan, Jan Molby, kevin Keegan and more recently Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and the prolific Steven Gerrard.You have a lot of making up to do. Now thinking of the start of the season against stoke, playing stoke won't be like the past few years as Tony Pulis was so defensivly minded it was nearly impossible to be able to play your own football but with Mark Hughes in charge who knows what blunders he will have put into the team, plus with Luis Suarez out I have full confidence in the pairing of Courtinho playing in behind the new Didier Drogba - Daniel Sturridge. Power, Strength, Speed and Confidence the more more important attributes in a striker:-) Thoughts fellow Reds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suarez is banned for the Stoke game and the following 5 after that. Also, I am not sure he capable of thinking like the way you put it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Th way I see it "The real AG" every time we sign a player you can look at his skills, his speed, his power, but I think one of the most important things you should look for is the commitment of the player and if you think he will show loyalty for the nexxt ten years. People talk about daniel agger going to barcelone but people do forget he has YNWA tattooed on his knuckles so I think he will be pulling on the red shirt for many years to come :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

That is why the policy of signing the youth
they will be here for long

Agree0 Disagree0

Allthough I do agree with the youth coming in because I think Sterling and Ibe are a great addition to our squad and will be able to pressure down the wings being brought on at around 65 mins in to a game, but sterling made a great start last season and faded out half way for the main reason he was only 17 a very young player but not used to the pace and strength of the premier league so that is why as well as youth we also need experienced players in there prime so we can push for not only champions league spots but to pressurise the top of the table:-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi there.

I'm from just outside Glasgow and supported the reds for all my life since the early 80's.

Big Scots links obviously over the years mostly good some not so.

Actually a st mirren fan having grown up in the area and played for them for 11 yrs when football was a lot stronger than it is now ( Gazza, Big Dunc, Larsson etc )

Manage to get down once a year but watch every game live on telly or on LFC TV.

Should beat Celtic easy enough at weekend as they are not great.

Decent keeper and full backs, ledley ok but that's about it.

If can keep Suarez fit and motivated, as looks like he's staying, and Sturridge stays healthy, am really confident top 3 or 4 is on.

Top 2 Will be Man city and Chelsea with rest up for grabs.

Looking forward to a great season .

All we need now is for Arsenal to finally get the message that "Suarez will not be sold - especially to you" and announce they are withdrawing their paltry bid of £40,000.001. The extra £1 was a stupid stunt (I think that's the right phrase).
Then we need Luis to come to his senses and apologise to everyone for the grief he has caused by asking for a move.
Finally he needs to change his advisers and get some who will act in his best interests, because the team he has behind him at the moment have screwed up big time. {Ed002's Note - They will not "withdraw" the bid and the £1 was not a stunt as I explained previously Dave. And to be honest, it is not his advisors that need to change it is Suarez - everything is pretty much of his own doing. This posturing will be aimed at forcing a transfer request, which as I have said, I do expect to be forthcoming. An advisor spoke again with Real Madrid on Thursday morning (US time) to try and expedite matters and I would think that the push is continuing with other clubs as well. The window is open a while yet and there will be some twists and turns in terms of major transfers still.}

Well well well. Got a text last night telling me Suarez was pictured driving out of Melwood crying! Had a look myself and although not the clearest pictures, he does seem to be crying.(just google Suarez crying pic)
Now it could have just been that the vending machine was out of picked onion Monster Munch but I wonder whether he had just received the news from John Henry that he ain't calling the shots. How peeved he would be if he has been told to his face that he's going nowhere, especially after being so vocal in his desire to leave.
Mr Henry has personally spoken to Arsenal and told them that he will not be selling to them. He also stated that there is no way we can sell to any other overseas club in this window as we will not have time to find suitable replacement(s).
I may be wide of the mark but perhaps an offer from Madrid of players or player/ players plus cash would be a possibility as the replacement(s) would be part of the deal.
The plot thickens. {Ed002's Note - Realistically, I imagine that Mr Henry sees what he said as a £2M statement of intent.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe that's why Suarez was crying because he's just realised he is going to lose out on his loyalty bonus by handing in a transfer request?

Good on Mr. Henry, let's see if Suarez has got the balls to put in the transfer request. Also if he has been so poorly advised regarding the 'non-clause' in his contract he really should be looking for a better agent. I suggest Mr Guardiola beg his brother to make a bid from Bayern or he may lose Mr. Suarez fees altogether.

Hi just registered.

Once I read LFC do have people checking sites like these.

Many posters wrote across the globe to sell Suarez its not good to keep disgruntled player. They may be gooners and manu fans. How henry took such a decision?

Secondly I posted a few places why not loan Suarez to real Madrid in exchange take another striker from them. When we are in cl we take him back. We should be in cl next season. Both party win. {Ed002's Note - Welcome. Certainly the club uses a small consultancy to provide feedback on public perception. Having Suarez in a dressing room after he has said that the players around him are not good enough will be toxic at best. There will not be any loan of Suarez to Real Madrid - it is not a viable option at all.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Really? Then note to Liverpool go out and sign Willian tgen, regardless of whether bugs bunny stays or not. {Ed002's Note - A bid of just under €40M has already been rejected.}

Feel quite sorry for John Henry to be honest.
He must be wonI'd feel what the hell is going on at his club.
Seeing Suarez singing and pretending to be carefree as he left training today must have boiled his blood, I know it did mine.
And to be honest it would be the same if it was a rival's player acting like this.

He is an ungreatful git and makes me sick to the pit of my stomach quite frankly.
No respect for anyone at the club or otherwise, even hung team mates out to dry saying they agreed with his position.
I'm guessing Coates and Lucas as they're his buddies, maybe Coutinho also - but then again Suarez is probably doing what he's good at here, lying.

A little disappointed that Henry has said we don't have time to replace Suarez, there are 3 weeks left which surely is enough time, or is he just leaving out the part that nobody decent wants the move.
I'm guessing the latter is the real case.
Let's see if Arsenal can find a replacement in that time.

If Chelsea offered Lukaku plus a few million in the meantime I'd snap their hand off even though he may not suit our so called style.
That lad is going to be a superstar if given time in their team.
Now come on Brendan and John, get out there and sign a quality player to improve our team, morale will shoot up within the club too.
No excuses about time.
Willian is available, go after him if Costa isn't interested.

Hi Eds,
Thanks for your work so far during the window.

I heard that Real Madrid are not allowing Alvaro Morata to become part of the Gareth Bale talks with Spurs because they know that BR is a big fan of Morata.

RM will allow Alvaro Morata to be part of talks with Liverpool in a bid for Luis Suarez. Morata has made comments recently suggesting that he accepts he will need to be moved on if "another striker arrives".

RM still have a firm interest in Suarez and will make a bid in the coming week. {Ed002's Note - Real Madrid's discussion with Spurs don't involve any consideration of Rodgers.}

Ed's, do you think this is what will happen or is it to increase the price of Suarez even more. Also, with Costa and Atl. Madrid both against the move here, do you think that Costa was actually seen as a replacement for Suarez and now that they've denied any possibility of the move, we don't have anyone else to turn to because it is so late in the window? {Ed002's Note - It is posturing or a very significant mistake.}

I just watched highlights of Liverpool v Arsenal Champions League quarter final when we won 4-2. They were halcyon days under Rafa. I was at the game and I swear I have never been so happy in my life when walking out of Anfield that night. Ok it wasnt the same as being in Istanbul watching the lads create magic but that night was my Istanbul. I've never seen the Torres goal since I saw it live and it just bought back memories of how sensational he really was before he threw his dummy out of the pram. Also much love to Babel what an impact coming off the bench its a shame he wasnt consistent he really had the attributes to be a great footballer. And take a bow Rafa Benitez when everyone around him was going hysterical he was cooler than Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry! Talking about cool what a pen by Stevie G. I love my LFC. Ok we've not won anything in a while but in the transitional period watch the old DVD's of when we were invincible, support the team even more because when we do win it's going to make it that much sweeter! Take a bow Rogers and Henry!

I wonder when it all comes out in the wash if the final straw for suarez was Liverpool releasing the banned racist words list. This was a funny move by the club. Although well intentioned it gives the impression that people within the club are using these words. And certainly the trigger for it was the suarez incident. So it may feel to suarez that the club also feel he is a racist. Something he of course has always denied. This vocal desire to leave has only started since then. Just a theory. thoughts. Of course there are many reasons, but I can't help thinking this would have felt like the club validation of the nature of his act.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think the list has anything to do with Suarez vocal desire to leave starting. From what J Henry has said, the player and agent were told any sale would need to be done early and that has not happened. Luis, being the smart bloke he is, thought he'd take getting a transfer into his own hands.

Agree0 Disagree0

You will find out that doing something (anything, no matter how funny you think it is) is actually a noble act by the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a funny move at all. The clubs image took a major dive through the Evra-Suarez episode. The club supported it's player 100% and lots of people lost their jobs over it.

Now players know without any doubt that if they use those words they are on their own and the club will not stand with them.
Discrimination is a serious matter and anything the club can do to stamp it out is a huge positive. I was very pleased the document was produced.

With it being world cup year and with Suarez being crucial and central to Uruguays chances of qualifying, if he decides to refuse to play for Liverpool, play intentionally poor for Liverpool or go out his way to get banned while playing for the club, can Liverpool stop him going to play for his country in the qualifiers?

Reason I ask is if they can this would ensure he still plays to his ability and allows us to hopefully retain the benefits of, if Bale leaves, the best player in the EPL.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suarez needs to be playing first team football pre-World Cup. He will not jeopardise his form by going on strike or playing badly.
It was a high stakes poker game and sadly for him Luis got cleaned out by FSG.

Why does everyone, from posters on this site to newspaper journalists to sports reporters on tv and radio, insist on saying that the Arsenal bid was £40 million + £1?
It's £40000001 for f*

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Probably too stupid to count the zeroes

Agree0 Disagree0

Because journos always try to make figures easier to digest. People get what you mean if you say it like this and wouldn't if you said it the way you wrote it.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's to highlight the £1, and to put thoughts in people's head.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also Chris the least you could have done is include the commas your figure is a mess without commas. £40,000, 001 is a lot easier to understand than what you've put. Anyway £40m + £1 looks better, it sounds better and it highlights the fact that they actually bid ONE POUND over £40m and not £40.5m or £41m, etc. etc.

Hoorah for John Henry, I was genuinely looking forward to Suarez being sold just for the sake of seeing who would replace him but I'm so glad that we've got an owner with a pair of B's who refuses to be messed around by the whim of a player. Anyone doubting whether Henry has the best interests of the club at heart needs to think twice now, the other two American cowboys would have sold Suarez weeks ago and pocketed more than half of the profits and replaced him with Grant Holt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This how American owners roll. When they tell a player to jump, he says how high and shuts his mouth. Get used to it, lfc players. {Ed002's Note - It was a naïve thing to do.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder what are the odds that LS, Rooney and Bale will all be at their current clubs at the end of the transfer window?

Editors I really believe Liverpool should look to replace Suarez with Nico Gaitan or possibly Gaston Ramirez. Gaitan looks a real star player, and a move to England at this time in his career could be perfect. Additionally I think getting one of these players is realistic. Do you agree with my views editors, and do you think Liverpool may move for either of these players? {Ed001's Note - neither are players I would see as a good replacement, neither have convinced me.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd take Diego Costa and Angel di Maria to replace Suarez and Downing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gaston Ramirez hasn't been overly impressive since moving to Southampton, I'd see that as a very disappointing transfer if we were to go for him. I'd rather recall Suso than have Ramirez CAM

Hi Eds, sorry to bring up the Suarez saga but I just can't understand John Henry's intervention in the matter.Whilst he is the owner and obviously has control over matters why would he say to the media we are 100% not selling him? When, as you have been telling us, he will be sold. He will look toothless and really stupid if/when we sell Suarez to Arsenal or even any club at all now with his recent comments.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with you honestly. Definitely saying that Suarez will still be a Liverpool player come September 3rd strikes me as a particularly dumb thing to say. Unless of course he really does have no intention of selling, which I also think is a dumb course of action.

I think it would perhaps be best if Liverpool players, managers, and owners all avoided speaking to the press for a while. {Ed002's Note - I completely agree.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He has every right to sound his opinion. Suarez has put he and the club in so much trouble and Henry has kept quiet. I think this was the last straw that broke the camel`s back so he had to speak out. Top man and great owner

John Henry's words were a deiberate attempt by LFC o set the record straight following LS's recent interviews, and will have been given careful consideration by the press team before he spoke to anyone. I think Ian Ayre said much the same as Henry recently but it carried less weight.

You have to put Henry's words into context. Had a bid of acceptable proportions materialised earlier in the window from Bayern or Real or similar, LS could already be playing for them. This is why LFC seemed so passive when LS was making all those nseemly comments earier in the window.

No such bids are made, LFC fail to land our intia replacement targets and the prices for attackers get ridiculously inflated. So a £40m bid might have been sufficient in June but now it would take at least half as much again.

Will we sell LS in this window? Possibly. But Henry won't want a repeat of the Torres/Caroll fiasco, that's too much financial risk, so it will take something special. January might be a better bet. Let's see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not at all. Everyone knows the game here. We won't sell to Arsenal. That's been made clear. We will sell to a club who offer what we want (more than we got for Torres and in Cavani ballpark figure territory). FSG and Rodgers have played their hand as well as they can given the player they're dealing with.

Second poster in agree but I think he was more or less saying no English club I think he'd happily sell to a foreign club just my opinion

Believable1 Unbelievable0

How is this good news? Good news would be we've accepted a bid of £45M from Real Madrid.

Its not good news. Its fair news.

Suarez should leave the club. He has done so much damage and is a DF.

But if he leaves, he leaves on our own terms and is not going to Arsenal

read Arsenal have launched a £51m bid for Suarez.

I don't know how reliable they are but I think it's probably absolute rubbish.

Would hate to see him at another EPL club with a passion; Real Madrid are taking their sweet time if they are genuinely interested. Bar-stewards better hurry up and submit an offer.

I think the scouts deserve credit for highlighting Aspas as a suitable player for us, he's been great throughout pre-season. Let's hope (The Scouts)/we have a top quality player in our sights should we sell Suarez.

Evening EDs, just a quick one. i'm not sure how accurate & reliable tv is but in there website it reporting j.w. henry saying he defo won't sell suarez to arsenal at any price & not even to a foreign club due to lack of time to find a suitable replacement. My question is do we take this as gospel that he won't sell him or you think it more mind games to try push price up to a premium? Sorry bout another suarez question, bet you guys will be relieved when this saga is over? {Ed001's Note - I think it is Henry saying Suarez will go when the club is ready not when he is ready. Though an offer of the right player plus cash would still be accepted, in my opinion, hence the talk of a replacement.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just wondering what, if anything can we make of Henrys comments in the last 30mins or so in the Echo:-
that LFC would not dream of selling him to rival for champs league in england and now due to the lateness of the window not to anyone as we have no time to get a replacement?!
Brinkmanship?
Surely LS won't be putting on a red shirt ever again and this is to force his transfer request and someone to bid?!

Eds - comments?
Do you see this changing things or do you still expect things to play out as expected? (i.e. LS to Real?)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He`s just reminding Suarez and his camp of thugs that HE (Henry) runs the show and will decide Suarez`s fate at the club. He will go BUT only if and when it suits lfc, period.

i do really think we are going to finish higher than last season and I do think we will be in the top 4, last season we were in transition and a few mistakes cost us, even the one against everton were we scored but it got dissalowed, but this season there's a few teams that will be in transition with their new managers, people are saying chelsea because the mourihno factor, but what's the saying about going back to an old club it even happend to king kenny, we are a season ahead of the teams with new managers and hopefully we will cut out the mistakes and we are lucky on the injury side and we will be up there, i'm looking forward to the new season

He pretty said what he had on his mind and I can understand and agree w/ him. This doesn`t mean Suarez won`t be sold. It just means he will go when the club deems it fit and nothing else. As for the gunners, this just shows how pathetic and desperate they are.

What do you make of this statement from John Henry Eds? I think it could blow up in his face. To say that Suarez will not be sold to anybody now as we will not have time to replace him and that it is about football reasons and not finances is pretty bold. If we however end up selling him it will have everybody jumping on the bandwagon that you cannot trust JH / FSG.

He may have backed himself into a corner when there was no need to say anything. {Ed001's Note - not really, he just gets a replacement and it is all good.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed with you, Tommy. For now he seems to have an awful lot of people on his side (which is good) but if/when we do actually sell Suarez he's going to take a beating in some quarters for the 'he'll still be a player on the 3rd' line.

John Henry being reported as saying that he has personally spoken to Arsenal and told them that Luis Suarez is going to be a Liverpool player come September the 3rd. A day after the transfer window closes.
If this statement is true a big thumbs up to FSG for standing their ground and not giving in to player power.
Love what I am seeing on and off the pitch.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree completely.

Hopefully we are working on the assumption LS will not be part of the team and attacking replacements will arrive as who knows what sort of playing commitment LS will give. If it's like Torres - I'd rather he joins the reserves.

The only credit I can give LS is that he loves his football and I think once he's accepted he's staying, he'll still give 100%.

Still want him gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you might be giving Suarez too much credit. Seems to me as if the lad does things which are often less than slightly rational, so I think his reaction if included in a game is just a tad less than predictable. He might decide to headbutt a referee and get banned for the season if he's still annoyed with the situation. Or he might give 100%. Very much reliant on his ability to play nicely with others which given his track record I would be nervous about.

Anyone else wish the owners and BR would perhaps learn a lesson from Suarez and stop talking to the press so much?

I find the statement that Suarez will still be a Liverpool player on September 3rd disconcerting (and hopefully false bravado).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can we stop with the pearl clutching?

Agree0 Disagree0

They trying to keep the value of the player up.

Suarez actions are reducing his value.

I guess we are all guilty of it but we would be better served no listening to anything in the media as more often than not its speculation or designed to gain a foothold in a standoff such as this.

Check the LFC site, it will tell you when we sign and when we sell.

Looking forward to this season and hopefully a few new faces before next Saturday or the closure of the window.

I work with a lad who is a Manchester United fan (a proper fully fledged born and bred Manc who goes the game to be fair to him). Anyway, apparently according to him the consensus of opinion is that most Man U fans think Rooney is being a person for not going public on whether he wants to leave or not.

The complete opposite to us where the consensus of opinion seems to be that Suarez is a person for going public on his desire to leave.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think there's a difference between making your intentions clear (through handing in a transfer request) and what Suarez has been doing though (telling everyone who'll listen plus not give up the 5%). The Luis Suarez problem is completely embarrassing.

I'm nonetheless glad to see what John Henry has said, as hopefully it sets some precedent for club control in these positions but unfortunately as it's so often a question of money most clubs (and probably us too) can't just sit on such an expensive asset.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2013 22:53:20
Well that's it. Henry has said Suarez is definitely NOT be leaving before the transfer window ends in Sept.
I still don't think we will see him in a red shirt again. I think he will be benched or in reserves until January, then be sold abroad. Possible loan abroad for a year option also?
Great to see Henry, FSG and Rogers showing that we will not be messed about with

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That would lose us a lot of money and severely hurt his sale value. How is this a good idea for the club? Tevez went for how much?
