I would just like to wish Robbie fowler a happy 41st birthday, I remember quite vividly the buzz his emergence generated, it quickly became apparent he was the real deal, he slotted into the 1st team with no problems whatsoever, one of my all time favourite finisher's why houllier and Thompson ever entertained the idea of selling him is one of the great mystery's of all time, he should have been a 1 man club player chipping away at rush's record, so many brilliant goals to look at but destroying utd at old Trafford is one of my personal highlights, also THAT hat- trick vs arsenal, what a wonderful left foot he possessed, not many people get the nickname god but some of his football and finishing was god like. Happy birthday Robbie.

Ed1 looking forward to next season, you said you believe that better results will come with better fitness, once they have a really good pre season, I think we have a really positive future under Klopp. How much player change do you believe we need as I really think we have a decent squad as it stands, just fine tuning and trimming of the squad is that the way forward?

{Ed001's Note - it is mostly about trimming it down, but we do need a left back and keeper in the summer.}

Anywhere else needs improving ed1?

{Ed001's Note - you always need to be looking to improve, but I think it would be best if we just built a little slower and allowed other players time to prove themselves. Trying to get more than a couple of players into the first team at a time ruins team chemistry.}

Fair enough, especially with Matip and Grujic coming in as well. Do you see Lucas long term used as a centre back by Klopp ed1?

{Ed001's Note - I think so, his legs are not what they were but his reading of the game is top class, so centre back suits him now.}

If he keeps moving backward in his strongest position he will be goalie in a couple years.

Ed001 for the left back situation, I believe you would like Moreno to be moved on. so do you think Brad Smith has done enough to step up to the first team? Or do you think we need to buy and give him time?
Also we will get rid of Enrique, Flanno can cover LB and the return of Gomez and Brad Smith if he sticks with Moreno it's covered, but do you expect him to twist?
Hope you don't mind my curiosity, just wanted your thoughts.

{Ed001's Note - Smith has a lot to prove, but I would like him to get the chance to prove it by bringing in an older head to challenge him and share the left back role. Gomez is not a left back, nor is Flanno, they are good cover though. No point keeping Moreno, he is going to hurt someone seriously with those ludicrous flying challenges. Get him as far away from the club as possible.}

Thanks Ed001 alway enjoy reading your opinions, and agree with most of them including this. I like what I see of Brad going forward and crossing wise, needs to develop his defending a bit - so needs game time to work on this. Also agree covering players in this position is not good if we want to content at all levels. RB with Clyne and Flanno is covered well - need the left side sorted.

{Ed001's Note - I know I am not a fan of Clyne, but him and Flanno should hopefully push each other on to be better.}

How close is Lucas to a return Ed?

{Ed001's Note - he is in full training so very close.}

I think midfield still needs some work. Against the better opposition our midfield is regularly found wanting. Lucas has proven himself to be inconsistent season after season. Whether Stewart is the missing key remains to be seen but I believe he should be given the remainder of the season to prove himself. All our midfielders and let's face it we have enough of them have proven they are missing a little quality. I'm not sold on Can, Allen has improved greatly but still wouldn't be missed. Hendo is a first team regular simply because we need his passion and commitment. Milner is more often than not as poor as we have at present. GK, LB and CDM is priority for me. Any other incomings will be wide men if Klopp wants options, Marko should be given a chance but we do need another as Ibe seems to of stagnated badly this season and dependent on outgoings.

Central midfield needs a lot of work IMO.

I disagree on midfield, you have Can, Hendo and challengers from Grujic, Stewart in deep midfield (assuming a 4-2-3-1) and in the more attacking midfield roles you have Coutinho, Firmino, Llalana and amongst the challengers next season Milner, Markovic, Ibe, Ojo, Brannagan.

I would like to see one senior player coming in (if they are serious quality) to replace Allen and/ or Milner but beyond that I'd be happy not to see too many changes and see if Grujic and Markovic can prove themselves alongside some of the youngsters.

Our midfield this season has been far too weak when the opponents are in possession and has not contributed enough goals. Individuals can be great on their day but rarely are they good together and often are they out competed IMO.

Did Klopp not hint for a pacy winger or did things change.

Grujic is still young and going to take time to grow into the league and team. Can is far too inconsistent, yes he's young but I am not one who sees him as our midfield. Hendo has to be there for me because of his effort and commitment. Neither Lucas nor Allen are good enough. Grujic is very much in the mould of Can, an energetic box to box midfielder. They will rotate. Our midfield strongly misses an enforcer, someone who is happy to sit back and cover the CB's or fullbacks and can let the others play, a good old fashioned CDM.

09 Apr 2016 18:13:37
Can and Hendo are similar type of players with no discipline in the middle Neither has good passing range. We have failed to keep the ball in the midfield and often the opposition finds space behind them.
Just because we have some names doesn't guarantee quality. I also have my reservation on Grujic ( Very young and in experienced ) We need at least one world class CM who is sound disciplined and has a fantastic passing attributes.

Striker required.

To an earlier post, is not being able to defend a pre requisite? Then being being able to get forward and cross well is a wonderful bonus in a fulback.
