All those fans trashing Klopp and praising Unai Emery 😂.

Believable14 Unbelievable0

08 Mar 2017 22:24:33
They crumbled but its tough on Emery as Cavani and Di Maria should have put it to bed. What a brilliant, brilliant game though, celebrated that like Lovren against Dortmund.

08 Mar 2017 23:32:50
How can you blame Emery if his players bottled it?

08 Mar 2017 23:22:41
It doesn't change the fact we lost to him an year ago Ron😎. We should have been in the CL this season has we won the EL trophy.

09 Mar 2017 01:18:58
Because they set back and thought the job was done.

09 Mar 2017 09:02:24
They have just taken off us the title of greatest comeback in CL history. But at least ours was in the final, and I don't think that will be beaten.

09 Mar 2017 09:34:14
They may have the "biggest" comeback but we have the "greatest" comeback by a long shot.

09 Mar 2017 09:55:40
Barca were the winners of some very contentious decisions in that game including the penalties which were both very, very soft. It was a great comeback but the diving antics sour it somewhat.

09 Mar 2017 11:56:18
PSG and Unai defeated by refereee, not Barcelona.

09 Mar 2017 12:35:22
Oh come on lads, yes they bottled it but they got their away goal what more could they have done, sometimes you just have to sit back and say 'yep, that's football'.

09 Mar 2017 15:08:11
Tell that to the quarter final draw Leek 😄.

08 Mar 2017 20:31:35
hi Ed's. do you know if we are getting anywhere regarding the sponsorship deal for the new main stand that the club was looking for?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of anything changing at this time.}

08 Mar 2017 20:28:35
cans situation is really irking me. On current form he should be extremely grateful he's even in the squad, let alone starting near every game. If a player doesn't want to sign a new contract ( even though their playing sh**e ) show them the door. Seems to me the club or somebody is pandering to him. What sort of message does this send to other players?

Believable10 Unbelievable5

08 Mar 2017 20:59:03
It's a different game these days and players probably don't think much about it. It's all handled by agents who's job it is to get his client the best deal.
I don't blame Can for having an agent who wants the best deal.

I do think it's likely he'll be moved on though.

08 Mar 2017 22:13:20
I don't blame can for having an agent who wants the best deal either, it is however up to him what he signs for. I hope we keep him but I don't want us to be held to ransom by him, it's very much his call.

08 Mar 2017 22:49:22
on what basis does Can deserve higher wages though? What is it he actually contributes to the team on a consistent basis? Not much bar mediocrity. Granted he's young and has potential to grow but for me he's just not showing . Time to move him on if he doesn't sign, not like we'd be missing much.

09 Mar 2017 00:05:02
For me Emre Can has not progressed at all in the last couple of years. In fact, he's gone backwards. He slows the game down so much and is constantly off the pace.
Potentially great, if he had a football brain. Which he doesn't.
Move him on.

08 Mar 2017 22:49:20
A player is trying to get a better deal. Clearly, that has never happened before in football history. Shocking! Now whether he deserves a better contract, is open to debate. But really, other players don't care cos it doesn't affect them personally nor professionally. They know it's a business cos later they will be in the same position as he is now. It's up to the him, his team and the club to sort things out and if he stays or leaves, good luck to him and we move on.

09 Mar 2017 03:01:02
your bashing Can and i agree he ain't had best of seasons mucked down with injuries and Klopp said last week he is playing through a calf injury now and the medical team are trying to get on top off but ain't so far, so that means he is playing with pain meds. Atleast be fair when henderson plays with pain meds which is all the time you give him a bye ball when his performance is not up to where it should be. just be fair and not fair weather fans which there seems to be a lot of these days.

09 Mar 2017 13:05:22
Because Hendo has the odd off game, Can has the odd good game. There's a big difference, you can't compare the 2. if he's not fit enough to perform he shouldn't play. Simple!

08 Mar 2017 19:23:21
Lallana captain allday long, he has the passion and drive.

Believable0 Unbelievable10

08 Mar 2017 19:43:36
Can't take it away from hendo now. Bet it would make lallana play every week though.

08 Mar 2017 20:44:35
lallana as captain? No thanks. To me he's somebody who only sings when he's winning. We need somebody who when the chips are down, armband or not they'll fight to the death and push their teammates on. Lallana is no more captain material that migs is.

08 Mar 2017 20:59:38
Henderson is our captain.

08 Mar 2017 20:59:46
From what I can see walk on, they all only sing when they're winning,

08 Mar 2017 21:27:07
This has been done to death but I guess some are still not satisfied. Hendo is captain, end of. He has the respect of his coaches and teammates and that's all that matters. Next!

09 Mar 2017 09:35:59
Lallana has passion and drive when the top6 turn up, nowhere to be seen the rest of the time, at least hendo usually puts in a shift regardless of who shows up.

09 Mar 2017 13:08:28
Why the rubbish, time wasting conversations of a new captain? Hendo is our captain! If Lallana was captain material it would be him and not Hendo wearing his countries armband too (when Shrek is missing) Your talking nonsense!

09 Mar 2017 12:33:16
before even talking who should be a captain, do we even have a reason to change the captain? henderson is the captain, and i don't see why that should change either.

change of vice captain? maybe, i've not seen much from milner to take on the vc role. but that's just my opinion.

09 Mar 2017 15:09:04
Why do we need a vice captain? Never understood that.

{Ed001's Note - because someone has to be in charge of the obligatory footballer sex tapes to get their name in the media.}

Cracking win on Monday for the U23s against Reading. They won 5-1 away from home with a very strong side out.
Alexander-Arnold, Stewart, Woodburn, Wilson, Ojo and Gomez all started the game and Grujic made his return from injury getting out 60 or 70 minutes in.
Brewster scored 2 goals in this one. This boy is quality, he's made the step up from the u18s to U23s look so easy and he's settled on really well. Also he's still only 16! Gomez scored the first goal for us with a lovely volley. It's good to see him getting full matches in for the U23s, hopefully he will be moving up to the first team at the end of the season. Woodburn also scored from a very good counter attack and Philips scored the fifth goal.
It was a superb performance all round and everyone played very well. Harry Wilson didn't score but he did manage to lay on 3 assists for the team, his scoring and assisting record this season has been superb. Alexander-Arnold I thought had a very good game. I feel that is crossing and end product in general is so much better than Clyne's. Ojo also played very well and he was unfortunate not to score.
If it wasn't for the Reading keeper at times, the score could well have been 8 or 9. Lots and lots of positives to take from this game.
Next game for the U23s is against Chelsea next Monday at home. That is also on lfctv.
On a side note, well done to the u18s for beating Manchester City and getting through to the playoffs. I don't really follow the u18s so much but I'll keep an eye out on how they do in the playoffs and report back.

all good news Redman, Brewster also scored two goals for the
England under 17 side, definitely one to watch, he can all the way .

love the reviews redman, fair play pal.

08 Mar 2017 16:45:16
ed001 in light of emre can's contract situation would you personally keep him or let him go?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - sell him for me. If he hasn't signed a new one by the time the window opens, then he has to be sold.}

08 Mar 2017 17:10:37
Dont think we should sell him people slate him way too much, more than he deserves and forget he still a very young player. In a few years he could be one of the best in europe.

08 Mar 2017 17:34:41
the problem is, due to various situations he has not nailed down a position, a jack of all trades but a master of none, if he does not want to sign the contract we are offering him, we should sell him imo.

08 Mar 2017 18:24:44
Players should not be allowed to hold the club ransom. If he is going to do that then let's cash in on him. The highest bidder wins the prize.

{Ed025's Note - the way he has performed this season max, that could be anything from £17-50 to £125 mate.. :)

08 Mar 2017 19:32:33
No man holds the club ransom let him go and let Marco have a pop I really rate the lad and abit gutted he hasn't had a run not even in the cup.

08 Mar 2017 21:24:03
In a few years he could also become a Jay Spearing. Sell him if the money is right and add up all those to reinforce defense.

08 Mar 2017 21:28:02
I don't think he will be missed even though I rate him.

08 Mar 2017 23:57:55
Marco Grujic has been out injured for a good while Jamesy, although he's almost back now. Looked good in pre season, and hopefully he will live up to his potential.

08 Mar 2017 18:54:28
Ha ha Ed025. Going by what we got for players like Jordan Ibe and Brad smith last summer who were not 1st team regulars, I am pretty sure whoever wants Can will need to pay up. He has all the potential in the world to become a solid player so Liverpool +1 in that regard. German International too.

08 Mar 2017 19:48:03
Ed025 £125? You've got money to burn lad.

{Ed025's Note - love it dec..

09 Mar 2017 12:20:04
CyKlopps, Can is not a 'very young' player. 'Very young' is teenagehood, when many players make their debuts. Can is 23. He is not 'very young' anymore, he is an adult.

08 Mar 2017 16:33:02
Massive game on Sunday, forget playing the so called big teams we always show up for them we need the front 4 to perform the same as they do when we play the big clubs. can't afford anymore point slips in the run in if we want to secure CL which if we achieve every fan at the start of the season will have deemed that a success. Klopp has his critics for his perceived lack of ability to change a game/ style but I genuinely believe that he is a great fit for the club and given the patience to build he will achieve. He did not have immediate success with Dortmund but he did get them to be champions.

He will be learning im sure from this seasons experience and has already made reference to the desire to recruit to enhance the quality of the squad. He has also stated he has learnt from the cup runs impacting the league form which highlights the lack or perceived lack of quality within the squad to maintain success in multiple competitions within his desired style of play.

Lets hope we finish the season in good form and cross the line in the CL places.

Onwards and upwards.

YNWA.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

08 Mar 2017 21:31:51
we are challenging for CL places, something we weren't doing last season so there's improvement there to see on the pitch. Regarding Burnley, that big game mentality HAS to be there vs Burnley and in every game till the end of the season. That drive, determination and will to win we show vs the big teams need to be there going forward. We need to play fast, smart, move the ball quicker and score early as soon as possible and make sure we don't concede. We have done this to perfection vs big teams. Now, that has to spill over to ALL games.

08 Mar 2017 08:25:27
Hi ed1

If I may I would like to ask your opinion on our young goal keeper Grbara.
From the little I have seen on the LFC channel he seems quite competent but also very good with his feet something Mignolet struggles with.
Is he highly thought of for the future .

Secondly regarding Brewster and I know this is in response to the last game he had but he seems so composed for a kid playing against players a lot older and does not seem fazed.
Hopefully another Fowler in the making and before I get told to calm down we are due for one exceptional gem coming through .

Thanks in advance.

{Ed001's Note - they are both seen as a long way of being ready for the first team, though kids at that age can make huge advances at any time.}

Has anyone done the thing where you watch the away game on a screen at anfield in the main stand? Id have to travel 100+ miles and I'm wondering if you think it'd be worthwhile it is a corporate environment? Etc etc £19 per person i believe.

Hello ed002. The owners.
Upon reading a few of the posts lately, and finding out about plans to push the owners out again, I have a few questions. Apologies if I sound naive, I usually ask on the field questions rather than the behind the scenes stuff.
Are the owners still committed? Do they have an exit strategy for maybe this year, next year or 5 years? They keep rolling these dice, with the constant spending on transfers, changing a manager (done completely at the wrong time, which is probably one of the things I believed they were completely wrong about, should've been the summer before spending another £100million or so)
The stadium has been improved. Obviously phase 2 is not happening under FSG, and I hate this part, but to be totally honest winning the champions league is very unlikely to happen to us for the foreseeable. Winning the league may be a bit closer, but will they, can they, throw yet another roll of the dice in the summer? Are they happy to stick around for Klopp's prediction of "a title within 3 years? "
The tv revenue is coming in now, the hospitality is in place, the club are on the brink, maybe, of challenging for titles domestically. They will no doubt get some pressure from a fan group this summer. It seems like something is coming to me.
I understand if you simply cannot know, but do you think there is a plan to leave in a certain amount of time? Or is it a case of talking about an offer if it was to come along?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is no doubt in the owners still being committed but they do have a short-term and medium-term exit strategy. They remain very concerned by image and the company in Hartford that they use to report on perception of the club, staff and players are actively recruiting and are continuing to provide reports. They have changed the management structure and one of the tasks of Michael Edwards is to ensure that any player the club (Klipperty, Scouts etc.) is keen on is a suitable fit for Liverpool in terms of playing and, critically, economics. They are aware of the agression being shown towards them by the fans and the constant threats they have to deal with from the fan base. They won't want to be changing manager again during their tenure but were, to be honest, rather dumb to give Klopp a new contract so quickly. They will back him this summer in another desparate attempt to by the league title. Klopp came in with the promise of the league title without significant spending on the team - it was naive and probably stupid on his behalf to say such things. They will as you suggest get pressured from the Spirity of Shankly this summer - we already know that. But as I have said they are just a bunch of morons in a pub with a Facebook page. In terms of time the owners will be OK whilst the value of the business is growing but their investment dwindles everytime they switch external debt for internal debt - people don't see that their writing off nearly £70M a couple of years ago is a very significant investment in the club.}

08 Mar 2017 11:40:48
Indeed it was. So they backed Brendan after a promise, and now it seems they will stick with Jurgen. I hope that his contract turns out to be a positive rather than a rash decision.
You mention about perception of the staff, club and players. Would that be fan perception? Or how we look externally? Could fan perception influence the sale of a player, for instance?
Many thanks ed, as always.

{Ed002's Note - It is how everyone, and the club is percieved in the media, on social media, on web sites and forums such as this and Kop Talk and no doubt others, on the Facebook pages around the world and those of the Spirit of Shankley etc..}

08 Mar 2017 11:44:49
In my opinion the owners need to work on their image with the fans. I always hear "well this lot don't give a toss about us" (language adapted for site) .
I personally don't subscribe to that view, but a large number of local fans do. It bothers me because I can't see how the club can be successful when the fans and owners are not working together.

{Ed002's Note - The owners have been subject to sustained abuse by the fans - quite frankly I wouldn't give a penguin's love trunceon about the fans if I were them.}

08 Mar 2017 12:52:41
How would they work on their image? Most of us can see what they've done to the club and appreciate them. Even though when they show their 'love' for the club it seems forced, they are businessmen after all. Spirit of Shankly's ultimate aim is to have the club in the hands of supporters, therefore anyone who owns it is in the way. I think that can be quite damaging.
I have no problem with them at all and to know that somebody is combing over post after post of abuse towards players and others is horrible.
Although it is quite funny to think that somewhere, somebody is reading about us all being called glifnards and knuckle draggers.

{Ed002's Note - It is the image of their investment (the club) they care about. The Spirit of Shankly's objective of supporter ownership is naive an stupid - and will never, ever happen. The owners are well aware of them and their threats - but still see them as the group of morons in a pub I mentioned previously.}

08 Mar 2017 13:26:42
Thanks for your time ed002.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome Bob.}

08 Mar 2017 14:05:32
This site gets a bit vicious and bitter at times (usually when we've just lost), but the Spirit of Shankly sound downright nasty 😷.

08 Mar 2017 18:19:41
Not to mention the new training facility which is being built. Another £50m which is probably coming straight from the owners pockets.

FSG have bent over backwards for this club with the amount of investment they have poured in since buying the club.

As Ed002 says, for FSG to write of £70m which is basically taking their money and throwing it into a fire and watching it burn. They have been nothing but good to the club, yes they have made mistakes. We all do but the vitriol that gets thrown their way shows how pathetic and childish fans can be.

Spirit of Shankly would not have been able to fund the new massive stand. They would not be able to fund transfer windows and they most definitely will not have the money to purchase Liverpool Football Club. Not going to happen today, tomorrow or in their entire existence.

Let's not forget, we go back as far as Moores waiting for a bigger stadium and showed his greed by selling to H and G who promised a new stadium too and they ended up leveraging the club to the banks.

What FSG have done for this club in such a short space of time should see the fans being grateful. They have delivered financially in every aspect since buying the club yet people will still disagree and is why Ed002 repeatedly says he has no interest in discussing money with those who do not understand finances.

08 Mar 2017 21:22:00
Ron

Can you explain what are the owners supposed to do to please fans. I wouldn't hail them as messiah but they have been terrific and supported whoever in charge at the helm.

I am sorry but the fans has been utter pathetic towards the owners as well.

What should they do to please the local fans?

08 Mar 2017 21:32:00
Either SOS can put up or they can shut up, really. The Spirit of Shankly people need to go form an investment consortium, stump of the cash needed for the club and frigging make an offer to FSG, one they can't refuse and buy the club outright instead of running their mouths online like self entitled brats. As they say, "Put your money where your mouth is. If you ain't writing the checks, then you got nothing to say".

08 Mar 2017 05:08:31
I was watching some old matches and remember Benayoun being a decent player. Very Skillful.

Does he just look decent when watching the highlights or was he actually a very good player?

Sort of like a Lallana or Coutinho type player.

Thoughts?

Believable3 Unbelievable2

08 Mar 2017 06:43:46
He was quality, scored some big goals too.

08 Mar 2017 07:46:14
i Loved him.

08 Mar 2017 09:45:58
Very decent player. Flitted in and out of games a bit, but like Luis Garcia, could really shine.

08 Mar 2017 10:21:45
Genuinely good player.

08 Mar 2017 10:29:24
Bit of a hybrid of Couts and Lallana. He was harder working than Couts, but not as hardworking as Lallana, but he was also more gifted than Lallana but not as gifted as Coutinho.

Vastly under rated player was Yossi. We let him go at least 2 seasons early.

08 Mar 2017 11:29:52
Think Burkeyboy hit the nail on the head - he did flit in and out of games but was always capable of producing something significant. Think he was more consistent than Garcia overall - though Garcia was capable of producing a magical moment from nowhere Benayoun was more consistent in his contributions (though not as individually spectacular as Garcia) .

{Ed002's Note - Jerry Garcia is an all time favourite of mione.}

08 Mar 2017 11:47:05
He was a good player but a bit inconsistent. Sometimes he didn't fancy it.

08 Mar 2017 15:02:58
ed002 which grateful dead album did you prefer between workingman's dead or American beauty?

{Ed002's Note - American Beauty is the second best album ever made.}

08 Mar 2017 16:23:17
ed002 could you kindly let me know which is the 1st?, box of rain is one of the best songs ever written imo.

{Ed002's Note - Electric Music for The Mind and Body by Country Joe and The Fish Kenny. I thought everyone knew that. Interestingly, I shall be seeing the remnants of the Grateful Dead play in June (as "Dead & Company").}

08 Mar 2017 16:42:30
thanks for the reply ed002, appreciate it.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

08 Mar 2017 21:33:56
Benayoun was awesome. very intelligent player who could do almost anything with the ball at his feet.
