Just a quick post regarding the eds of this site

I'm not the kind of person to blindly follow everything the eds say and treat it as gospel, disagreeing with somebody else's opinion is what makes people individuals, however there's a word that a lot of posters on here need to look up, it's called respect.

The eds are people who give up there time, and work harder than I can even begin to describe, so all of us have got somewhere we can go to voice our opinions and find out information that we know will be genuine, but lately there precious time is taken up by random posters asking will we sign x y or z.

Everything they know on transfers can easily be found using the search function, please people let's all start using it so the eds have got more time to give us more informaion. Most post on here nowadays are like having kids in the car asking "are we there yet".

So thank you to all the eds for all your efforts time and patience, and come on people let's treat the eds how they deserve to be treated and let's start showing some much deserved respect.

Well said Bob.

09 Jul 2016 00:33:09
Very well put. I visit this site every day to keep up on any information the eds have to give out, whether it be on signings, matches, or their own opinions on things. Without them, Macca (and square tomato on all things Joe Gomez) this website would just be an aimless, fantasist list of transfer targets and unfounded anger about anything related to the club I love. There's plenty of websites like that on the internet if that's what you're looking for, but if you're looking for a decent community and reliable information, respect the people responsible for bringing it to us.

09 Jul 2016 07:01:39
Just been a little bit sick in my mouth 👄. I'm sure the eds are more than aware how appreciated they are, I think you were just looking for a post of the day comment from ed002.

{Ed001's Note - ah Waro, you know you are just jealous because your love notes get deleted..... ;-)

09 Jul 2016 07:25:47
Oh ed001 why let everyone know😳? One day I'll get the right mixture of sickly sweet and disingenuous and you'll post one, gggrrrrrrrrr😬!

{Ed001's Note - we were trying to protect your reputation. I wouldn't want everyone to know about the flowers and chocs we get on a regular basis. They might all want to send them and I can't eat that much choc!}

09 Jul 2016 08:53:49
Your giving to much away about me here ed001, next you'll be letting slip about me standing outside your house in the rain with my night vision goggles, oops, not even you know about that one. erm got to go ed someone's knocking at my front door 😍😍😍.

{Ed001's Note - so I haven't been seeing things then!}

08 Jul 2016 21:25:57
Future Stars - Ejaria, Woodburn and Alexander Arnold.
Missing in action - Markovic (the man is clearly not interested anymore) .
Good chemistry and linking up - Firmino and Mane
Welcome back - Ings and Sakho
Prayer - someone please grab those heads and chop off those topknots.

Believable7 Unbelievable7

08 Jul 2016 22:08:10
I thought Markovic was pretty neat apart from that sitter he missed?

08 Jul 2016 22:15:21
Ejaria. Never Heard of this lad and wow great feet presence looks a good future like a viera or pogba keep the kid grounded and he is going to be special.

08 Jul 2016 22:19:59
Can't believe Klopp let's them get away with the topknots to be honest. Moreno doesn't surprise me but come on Firmino lad!

Think you're spot on with your post, Ings is great to see back in action, you could see how livid with himself he was after the missed header and i was made up for him to get his goal after the near perfect overhead. To add to your post i thought Stewart had a very tidy game too.

08 Jul 2016 22:29:51
how did matip and karius get on?, info and thoughts most welcome have to say just like Kenguero I had not heard of Ejaria, could have done with one of MK Scousers famous summaries as regards to the player. { hint, hint}.

08 Jul 2016 22:44:34
Matip did okay, wasn't a great deal of defending to be done but didn't cause any fuss and got his job done. Don't think Karius made a save? Quick distribution though which was a plus, will have to play some better opposition before we can truly see where he's at.

08 Jul 2016 23:18:02
Neither Karius nor Matip were really tested bar maybe Karius releasing nice a early.

09 Jul 2016 00:27:45
I have watched a lot of Ejaria since he joined the Academy in 2014, after spending 9yr at Arsenal. He started out playing for the under 18's and looked a gifted, tall gangly kid who had been well schooled in keeping possession. The lad over the last 2 seasons has developed into a really exciting prospect promoted to the under 21's last season to being invited to join the first team squad in March on their trip to Tenerife.
The Transformation of the lad in the last 2 seasons as been phenomenal and tonights performance was fantastic, he was the dominant playmaker and yes it was Tranmere, but he showed enough to get excited about the lads future under Klopps guidance. Yes he will continue with the under 21's but IMO I think he will be one that will progress to a first team player.

09 Jul 2016 01:35:55
Desperate times when people judge players and performances on a first pre-season game against Transfered Rovers.

09 Jul 2016 03:45:47
smh. I swear people read game reviews of journos over exaggerating (because to be fair traffic is slow on the transfer front) and then start posting.

Markovic got about just fine in my opinion. took up positions to help the fullback get into space on the right wing, ran in behind a few times, followed up in the box, granted missed a rebound any player shouldn't really miss so lacked a little composure in the moment, and played in a few decent crosses.

The guy also missed the last few months of the previous season, so he won't be the fittest player on the pitch. It wasn't a standout performance but he didn't look disinterested at all.

09 Jul 2016 04:26:11
Markovic had the best crosses of any wideout. Good pace and good decision making. His failure was not finishing the gift that was given to him at point blank range. Overall looked pretty good. With Ibe exiting, think he is a great alternative off the bench to Mane and Coutinho.

09 Jul 2016 05:02:37
Just watched the highlights.

Know very well that we are not suppossed to judge based on a such friendlies but most promising performance was from an unknown -Ejaria. Never heard of him before.

Looks very very promising for sure.

Will keep an eye on his progress.

Cheers.

09 Jul 2016 08:08:15
He was fairly well recognised as a talent in the academy but played mostly u18s with Teixera, Brannagan, Ojo, Kent, Wisdom etc. in he u21's

He looked very good, composed and Creative. If we're patient he could be a very exciting prospect coming through. He certainly has the physicality for the PL!

08 Jul 2016 21:22:44
Obviously we don't know the whole story Eds but might Sakho or the club be able to make a claim against UEFA for what seems to be a bit of a cock-up on their part?

Sakho could very well have played in the Euro final and may have helped us to win the Europa final - potential career highlights missed here.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Of course not.}

08 Jul 2016 22:03:59
If I were in charge at the club I would think very carefully about provoking UEFA any further.
In short, keep a low profile for the next 10 years.

08 Jul 2016 22:18:29
Well i slightly disagree Ron. I don't think it should matter what's hangs over Liverpool at the minute from Uefa. If they have made a mistake then they, like anyone else should be held accountable but i assume Sakho has got off on some technicality which is off course different.

08 Jul 2016 22:19:55
Spot on Ron.

08 Jul 2016 23:00:47
I disagree Irish in some cases it's just better to draw a line under it, in this case the club handled the situation very well as did Sakho which is a contrast to other fiascos (i. e. Suarez, Evra) so I'm of the opinion let's continue with that profressional attitude and move on, I don't want it to drag on any longer and I'm sure the player or the club want the same as it's gone on long enough already. I'll agree that sometimes people need to be held accountable but let's draw a line under this one.

09 Jul 2016 06:58:16
Think Mr Sakho can count himself very lucky to be honest. Don't get me wrong I'm glad he's available for us because I rate him but what happened is the equivalent of me being arrested for something and right before being sentenced what I did being made not illegal anymore. Regardless of whether it should or shouldn't of been on the banned list, it was when he was doing it and should really know better. That said I'm glad we don't have to kick him to the curb!

{Ed001's Note - actually you are wrong, it was not illegal on the WADA list, which is the one everyone is meant to go by, hence him being let off. The issue was that UEFA had mistakenly included it on their list of banned substances, believing it to be on the WADA list. No idea how they got it wrong, but they are not known for their competence.}

09 Jul 2016 07:03:09
Hmm, further reading today seems to suggest that the substance wasn't even on the banned list, now that's a massive cock-up - if true I'd be wanting a public apology at the least so that the player doesn't spend the rest of his career with that 'drugs cheat' tag, mud sticks and all that.

09 Jul 2016 09:01:18
Don't be silly, why should UEFA be accountable for incompetence? It's not like anyone else would be in their 9-5.

09 Jul 2016 10:01:51
I'm still in favour of letting all this go but if ed001's description is accurate how on earth has it taken 2-3 months for UEFA to realise this?
Couldn't they have worked it out with perhaps 1 phone call to WADA to confirm the error and then apologised straight away?
The idea it needed a 30 day suspension and a hearing is absolutely ridiculous.

{Ed001's Note - procedures to follow mate.}

09 Jul 2016 14:06:04
Ahhhh understood. Cheers for the clear up ed01. Whole thing does seem a bit silly then!

{Ed001's Note - it needed to be cleared up, UEFA could have decided to stand by their list, but they at least admitted their mistake, which is something. Now everyone knows the WADA list is the one to follow for definite.}

08 Jul 2016 21:19:52
Very nice goal from Ings tonight. Great first touch to set himself up and nice finish too. Plenty more like that this season mate!

08 Jul 2016 21:13:09
I have to say it was so refreshing to see the ball regularly played back to the keeper as a means of keeping possession. He likes to start with a fairly high line, whether or not he'd be comfortable doing that in the Premier League it's far too early to say, but I was very impressed with his distribution tonight.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

08 Jul 2016 21:10:16
Lovely goal by Ings, nicely cushioned the ball and great half volley. I think we're going to see great things from him this year.

08 Jul 2016 20:23:13
I am and many lfc fans are glad sako is done and dusted he can now put his plan for pre season training for 16/ 17 season and hopefully captain of our wonderful club klopp he is the only option for being captain great defender and can lead from the back what lfc need PS truth is the only option well done for telling the truth sako and well done lfc for doing this behind closed doors the way you have excellent dealing with player.

Believable3 Unbelievable6

08 Jul 2016 20:34:45
I'm not really sure why but does everyone seem to forget we already we have a captain? Or has he already been deemed not good enough?

08 Jul 2016 21:22:54
Jordan Henderson is Captain of Liverpool. and hopefully will be for a long time!

08 Jul 2016 21:39:33
Not good enough sorry but only being honest not a leader like many others.

08 Jul 2016 22:01:35
Billo Hendo is our captain but definitely Sakho for VC.

09 Jul 2016 00:18:11
Footballing abilities aside Sakho is the better leader of the two.

09 Jul 2016 15:52:21
Exactly, Reet. It's as if some on here can't simply come to terms with the fact that Hendo is captain and if you ask them what he has done to not deserve it, they start making pathetic excuses. Memo to his detractors: Hendo is captain of LFC and long may it continue.

08 Jul 2016 20:10:31
A good day in all for LFC. Klopp signs new deal until 2022, Sahko's case has been dismissed and is now cleared, and finally none of our players got injured during the Euros.

Believable8 Unbelievable3

08 Jul 2016 22:06:24
I think we put far too much emphasis on the role of a captain these days. The captain doesn't have to be the best player or the most vocal.
In my opinion he is the manager on the pitch and therefore the most important attribute is game intelligence. I think Hendo is a good choice.

08 Jul 2016 23:47:12
I agree with your post and that Hendo is a solid captain, but I also think you are describing Ings in a few years. I think he has the potential to be an outstanding captain.

08 Jul 2016 20:05:05
Be a real shame if we don't make a real player out of Brannagan, so classy and comfortable on the ball.

Believable13 Unbelievable3

08 Jul 2016 22:51:11
I agree, I think he should break through and be given the chances that sterling, ibe, Suso (to an extent) got. Him, ojo and Stewart should be in and amongst the first team this season otherwise I guess we would loan one or two of them. Hopefully regular football helps their progression as I've seen a lot of cristisicm of the loan system. We have to make sure we value these players and make room for them in some capacity, otherwise we will never produce our own players again.

08 Jul 2016 19:57:32
Mane is looking dangerous. going to b a beast.

Believable9 Unbelievable3

09 Jul 2016 00:20:08
The people who pressed disagree. Such bitter human beings. Mane was out there to impress, worked hard and found space in behind the defending line. Def going to be a beast.

08 Jul 2016 19:43:12
UEFA have dismissed the case against Sakho. Great news, no need for a cb now with him, Lovren, Matip and Gomez as the options.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

08 Jul 2016 19:36:42
I'm glad that Sakho did not get changed.

08 Jul 2016 19:34:59
I tell you what. This young Ejaria lad is a talent! Looks unreal so far!

Believable10 Unbelievable3

08 Jul 2016 20:07:57
Yeh. he's been really impressive. Looks like a great young prospect.
Mane showing great pace, and linking up well with Firmino.
Karius gets rid of the ball much quicker than Migs too.
Matip looks cool and confident in defence.

08 Jul 2016 21:18:49
Strange that he's not really been mentioned on these pages before as for me he was the standout player for the first half, seems to have a great combination of power and skill mixed with a sharp incisive pass.

09 Jul 2016 04:31:39
Stupid question but who is our fifth option at CB (Can maybe? ) . I know last season at one point we were down to two cb's thus the reason for Caulkner. May not hurt to look for a fifth.

08 Jul 2016 18:59:39
Hi eds,

When is Coutinho joining the pre-season? Klopp said everyone will have 3 weeks off right, its been more than 3 weeks since Brazil went out of Copa America.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - No idea.}

08 Jul 2016 19:45:15
It's all a smokescreen, you see, he's already been sold for €57 million to Everton but we don't want Dortmund to know that, otherwise they won't accept our €35 million offer for Reus, they'll want €42 million instead. That will then blow our budget apart and the deal to bring back Suarez will fall apart as Barcalona want €97 million for him and we only have €95 million in the bank and we still need a left back, who will probably be Rodriguez (the Chilwell scenario is another smokescreen, though I won't go into that now) .
Oh, Balotelli to sign a 3 year extension but on reduced wages but we pay for his haircuts.

08 Jul 2016 20:07:53
Come on Tristan that's a lie. There is now way that we will pay for Mario's haircuts as we'll just sign a barber capable of playing at left back.

08 Jul 2016 20:14:41
I think you are spot on. Eds i know you don't like to talk about money, can you still give us something to feed on.
Thanks.

08 Jul 2016 20:49:05
He was Granted additional time off by Klopp apparently. As long as he is back for the Tour of the US! (Just because I am going to 2 games lol)

08 Jul 2016 18:09:55
Hi Ed's

Another question regarding Ignacio Camacho, was there a concrete interest in signing the player?
Is there is possibility?
Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Use the search function.}

08 Jul 2016 18:21:39
So Ed001 was right about the interest in Skrtel from Turkey and it is the perfect time to see Skrtel leave as he was just going to hold back the likes of Gomez.

Now with West Ham chasing after Beneteke who should have never been signed in the first place, hopefully someone will be taking Balotelli from us too.

Clear out of the players who do not fit in is of utter importance for the squad to move forward under Klopp. We cannot afford to have any passengers.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

08 Jul 2016 18:25:41
Balotelli will not be easy to sell or get rid of at any cost. The others should have no problem fetching decent prices.
For a change, other clubs actually seem willing to pay decent fees for our players so its a start.

08 Jul 2016 18:37:49
Balotelli will go. Maybe not at the price LFC want but there is no way we can have him disrupting the squad. I am sure Klopp has already told him he has no future at Anfield.

Balotelli's agent is also working overtime to find him a new home. LFC will have to bit the bullet. The sale of Ibe will ease some of that pain.

08 Jul 2016 19:07:31
I think the club will have to just accept taking a hit on Balotelli.

08 Jul 2016 18:11:53

Haven't seen any of his training photos.

08 Jul 2016 18:06:28
No Marko Grujic for Liverpool v Tranmere tonight, the Serbian midfielder needs to leave the country and return for a work permit, as for Balotelli, Liverpool will try to loan him out and if no luck there then they will try to reach an agreement that would see his contract terminated.

08 Jul 2016 18:26:40
Not trying to pull anyone down. Do you honestly think if we have accepted a fee then JK would play him. Don't you think he wants to take a good look at the players we are going to use next season and get them used to the style of play he wants. I wouldn't of made a comment but I have seen ed2 been asked some stupid questions, and it would seem getting fed up with repeating him/ her self. Then people moan when they get a short or harsh answer. I for one don't want ed2 having to leave the site because his poor brain has been boiled to the extreme. Some of us value the good input that is given by the ed's and want that to continue. Seriously rtp saying you have a lack of time is a poor excuse it takes seconds ;)

08 Jul 2016 18:42:48
Red mist point taken. There are some pretty poor posts on here daily. I also value the input of all the eds which is why i'm checking this site when ever I can. As regards to time I work shifts and its a secure no mobile phone zone on site so i'm not able to be on here as much as I can. Hope you can appreciate what i'm saying as I can you.

08 Jul 2016 17:09:50
Jut a question for any of the Eds (and anybody else) .

Where do you stand on people coming back to sport following a drug ban. With sakho still awaiting his punishment and the whole Jon Jones debacle this week in ufc it just got me thinking.

Should sportsmen/ women be allowed back in all circumstances (redemption and such like), limited circumstances or a blanket ban. I know there is no simple answer but I just wanted to know what you think it should be. I do appreciate that the answer will depend on the nature of the breach by the sportsman/ woman and on the person answering the question and what there moral compass is.

I always think that if you have ever benefitted in certain ways, and i particularly think about muscle growth and the like, how you can ever compete clean again? You will always still keep that advantage you obtained illegally. That's only one specific example but I just think it's an interesting subject.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

08 Jul 2016 17:22:52
We live in a society where we advocate people having the chance to learn from their mistakes and give them the opportunity to prove it. Whilst individuals may think otherwise, that is societies choice as a whole. An absolute ban on drug cheats is ridiculous, certainly for first offences at least.

08 Jul 2016 17:33:25
Imagine if you lost your job due to taking drugs, and then after serving your time, got told you were now banned from that industry.

Footballers and celebrities are seen as these emotionless, inhuman creatures made from invulnerable steel; Incapable of just making a genuine mistake or error of judgement.

There are crimes that are unforgivable. But drugs? Theft? Petty things like that. The whole point of punishment is to reform an individual. If you make their life impossible to live by banning them from work, all you do is criminalise them.

There's the old role model argument, but surely seeing a guy make a mistake and then turn his life around and climb back to the top also makes them a great role model for young kids who have made a mistake. It is proof you can atone and still have a life after your error.

I've made mistakes in the past. Luckily I don't have to pay for them for the rest of my working life. Repeat offenders though, fair enough. They should be banned as all they show kids is that you get unlimited chances.

08 Jul 2016 18:20:52
For me you missed their point, Wassa-lfcs opinion is based on banned players still having a physical advantage due to a person having taking performance enhancing substances.

To my knowledge someone stops taking a substance they stop receiving the benefits and often have negative side effects which can hinder regular progression. Now some of the benefits can remain for a short period. But banning them, forcing them to not be competiting at the highest level and removing their team training sessions will do more to hurt their physical progression than any of these side effects could ever help. I would love to read up on this though, good post Wassa-lfc.

08 Jul 2016 18:22:34
Basically MK your saying it's alright to cheat till you get caught then repent an all is ok? It wasn't a mistake! He / they should not take anything without seeing the club doctor etc beforehand. Why should us an the club suffer? Would you forgive your missus if she cheated? It's still a dagger to the heart just the same.

08 Jul 2016 18:35:44
MK, if registered professionals, such as Doctors, nurses etc were caught taking drugs, or doing anything particularly illegal, they'd be struck off, and unable to work in their profession again. Now, i'm not saying PED's are the same as snorting coke off a strippers ass, but there are professions out there where, if you screw up, you're done.

I meant this to be more in-depth, but my kids are mauling me as I type, but i'm sure my point is in there somewhere!

08 Jul 2016 18:41:40
Sorry redNI but the effects of anabolic steroids do remain much longer than the period of taking them. e. g. Justin Gatlin.

08 Jul 2016 18:43:27
Slowdog, not patronising this, but have you ever competed competitively?

Not nice when your opponent is stronger only to realise they're juiced up to their eyeballs.

Seen it and been around it for years now.

Ban the fabucking lot of them for life I say.

08 Jul 2016 19:51:57
Funnily enough Ron that was the person I had in mind when I made that comment!

I just think it was one of those subjects that as it divides opinion it was worth a discussion.

Lfc forever, the ed answered the question in the original post and you asked again. So did you think the answer would change in the space of 10 mins. Its why ed002 gives such short shrift to you in particular but i give it to you u just don't give up.

Hi eds. Just curious to know if you have any update on sakho case? I know it only began yesterday but things very quiet on this front? Thanks.

08 Jul 2016 15:27:57
Eds, have Liverpool ever been looking at Ricardo Rodriguez, I think he would be a great addition and solve or left back problem. hell Robbie Brady could even do a job for us!

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - No.}

08 Jul 2016 14:54:27
Hey Ed002 not Liverpool related but I was wondering about the bielsa situation with Lazio and how these professional contracts work for the recipient. I read that bielsa has resigned 2 days after receiving a contract and that Lazio are looking to pursue legal action because of it. If the contract owner can terminate a contract by buying it out, how can the recipient of such contract terminate it? It is a strange decision and I would like to get your opinion of it as well, if you've got time.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - It is not strange - he has a contract and he is in breach of it. He will take another job now with no compensation being paid. Lazio will look to the courts for compensation.}

08 Jul 2016 15:41:11
It would seem he has been offered the Argentina job.

08 Jul 2016 14:46:43
Is it just me or does anyone else notice that Ibe's struggles began when he was recalled half way through his loan at Derby last season? I think we should have allowed him to complete his loan spell since he was playing quite well. Recalling him certainly halted his progress imo. Anyway 15m£ is a good deal for us. Onwards and upwards.

Cheers.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

08 Jul 2016 16:09:55
Last season he was fine, that's why we we all got so excited. Your thinly veiled effort to pin Ibe's failure to progress on Rodgers is noted and ignored.

08 Jul 2016 17:14:12
Muscatred, wow just wow😒😒😒.

08 Jul 2016 17:19:42
To be fair mustcat, I do think Rodgers is partially responsible.

Not for the loan recall. But for how he used him.

He constantly put Ibe at wing back, and I think it made Ibe more cautious. He stopped running at people because he didn't want to lose the ball without the security of a full back behind him.

I think he has struggled to get out of that frame of mind as he rarely ever runs at people and takes risks now, at least compared to how much he did it in the youth team.

In Rodgers defence, it really benefitted Sterling. He massively improved his defensive contribution by playing at wing back for a while.

Ultimately Ibe was his own worst enemy. He had impeccable attitude and he had great ability, but he just didn't have the confidence to play his natural game here. Perhaps he wanted it too much and the pressure weighed him down. As a Liverpool fan he was probably just so desperate not to make mistakes that he was afraid to take the risks required to be a top forward player.

In some ways, Rodgers and Klopp are at fault there. I've played an equal amount of time under both managers, and it was there job to manage the pressure on him. All we can do is wish him luck in the future. If every young player showed the dedication and humility he does, football would be a better game for it. Not many people know, but Ibe didn't even have an agent for quite some time. He just let his mum and dad manage his career. He doesn't want to suck money out of his clubs and look to get a move every 6 months to fill his bank account. He just wants to play football. I commend him for that.

08 Jul 2016 17:20:17
Is that you Brenda how's the tan :)

08 Jul 2016 17:52:49
For God sake, come on. He's what, 20 something. It's not unnatural to be inconsistent at that age. If he's got the right mentality he'll get better over time.
BR by the way was a fairly decent trainer and coach. Pathetic tactician and game changer.

Ibe is still a kid. Wish him luck if he leaves and move on already.

Hello Eds just wondering you opinion on the strength of the team after the signings so far? Is there any postions you think the club should still improve? I know left back is an issue but chilwell is pretty nailed on, hopefully he can be good enough. Do you think Matip and Karius will fix things at the back? Our defence of set pieces is beyond shambolic.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - apart from left back, I am happy with the squad for next season, it is more about getting rid of some and creating space to improve now.}

08 Jul 2016 14:40:55
Cheers Ed I agree with you the squad is way too big don't know how any youngsters can expect a chance unless we have another injury crisis.

08 Jul 2016 15:13:26
I replied to completely the wrong post above eds sorry, I meant to write on this one with a post along the lines of - ed001, if Sakho were to get a lengthy ban given the likely departures of Skrtel/ Ilori would your opinion change or are you happy with Gomez, Lovren, Matip and Lucas (if he were to stay) as our options?

{Ed001's Note - I would just think that is the next area to strengthen when we offload a few.}

08 Jul 2016 15:14:38
Left back the main one, still lacking in midfield which will be evevident soon as we play someone half decent.

08 Jul 2016 16:31:23
Left back main problem. I'm glad we've began to improve though because that last squad wasn't good enough.
I think we'll get 2/ 3 decent signings in. Teams around us will only get better. Need to improve A LOT.

08 Jul 2016 16:36:24
Lb and cm.

Coric would be a luxury or insurance for when/ if coutinho leaves.

We definatly need another cm and crucially as lb.

Allen, Milner just won't do there and with hendersons injury history last year we need to protect him and ourselves and not have to rely on him for what could be 45/ 50 games next year if we get to finals.

Zielinksi/ dahoud and chilwell, don't want hector myself now watching him a few times, can see him just getting eaten up in the prwm, we should of gone for guerr his delievery is scary.

08 Jul 2016 16:51:41
Left-back. Midfield is a tricky one. Henderson is a must start in my opinion but who to play with him is tricky. Lucas is clearly a squad player now (and a very good one) if he stays. Grujic will get games as ed's have suggested but this is a big step up for him. Emre Can worries me the most, has good moments but many poor ones too - I'm not sure he is either disciplined enough or intelligent enough to be a starter, I was unimpressed by him last season. If we had European football I'd say maybe buy another cm but, as it is its probably unnecessary this season.

09 Jul 2016 15:16:19
Spot on, Ed. We shoul;d have a balanced, homogenous squad and thanks to Klopp, we are getting there.

08 Jul 2016 14:22:50
Is Grujic actually being considered for a starting place this season? If so where? I can't see how he would be infront of can and hendo? Just wondering never seen him even play before but find it hard to believe he's being promised first team football after coming from a league that isn't that competitive and only being 20?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

08 Jul 2016 15:55:11
Being promised first team Football and a starting position are very different things. I expect he will be used to rest Can or Hendo in cup games or perhaps as a substitute or in a 4-3-3 from time to time.

08 Jul 2016 16:48:19
If he doesn't start he will lose his work permit which equals £5.5m down the drain.
He will start some games.

08 Jul 2016 16:52:59
Zimbo, he was granted the work permit under the understanding that he would be a regular. It surprised me as well, but it likes like he will be a big part of the first team.

As Ed002 has already alluded to, he will lose his work permit if we have lied.

08 Jul 2016 14:22:13
So we have sold Ibe but kept Markovic. If we were going to lose one of them i would have personally preferred we kept Jordan. He blew a bit hot and cold last season but certainly looked like he had enough in his locker to be included in the squad. For me, he has shown more glimpses of his potential than Markovic. Anyone agree?

Believable2 Unbelievable5

08 Jul 2016 14:40:34
Who's said markovic is staying.

08 Jul 2016 14:43:23
Markovic will likely be sold.

Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't happen.

The window only opened less than 2 weeks ago.

08 Jul 2016 14:45:07
Markovic will still go if we find a buyer.

08 Jul 2016 15:15:07
Who said Markovic is going? The original question remains the same.

08 Jul 2016 15:38:10
Markovic will be gone soon. Never got a fair chance and don't blame him for things not working out at LFC. Fenerbahce just sold Nani so they will probably make a firm offer for Marko now. Maybe around 14-15 million at best and i think LFC will take it.
We already have Couts, Milner, Mane and Ojo for the wide positions so its a good decision for all parties.

08 Jul 2016 15:57:20
Both have a lot of potential if managed correctly. When markovic was at benfica he was a top talent that everyone was interested in registering decent stats at a decent level. Ibe hasn't reached that stage at all. Ibe showed glimpses of raw potential mainly through his athleticism rather than his footballing talent which is why he easily got found out. Obviously you try to mould and develop players like that but I don't see ibe becoming the player we all thought he would. Especially as sterling was and is still more talented than ibe and look how poorly he's performing.

All the pressure we put on ibe when sterling left was unnecessary and put him straight into the spotlight and he was miles behind being ready for that. Personally I would have kept both. I would keep markovic to be in an around the first team and be a first team player possibly behind coutinho, firmino, mane, lallana in the forward three position. I would have sent ibe on loan to a PL club, such as Bournemouth and see how he got on there.

But £15m is almost to gpod an offer to pass by, we could get better players now that make us progress now, rather than potentially in the future that never seems to transpire.

08 Jul 2016 15:44:49
The original question is meaningless as they are both surplus to requirements and will both leave the club. It's a shame that the young lads we have spent a lot of money on aren't coming through but they both deserve somewhere where they can get plenty of playing time and kick on with their careers.

08 Jul 2016 16:10:37
Not a view on Markovic at all (I also suspect he may leave) but Ibe didn't show enough for me. I don't mind a slump in form when taking players on (that's a confidence issue) but when things got tough, Ibe failed to return to basics ie. relying on passing, vision, movement off the ball, reading of the game.

Ojo showed more all round ability for me when he got his chances, with great decision making both on and off the ball which counts for far more than just direct running and dribbling ability. I wish Ibe all the best but I'm glad that hopefully Ojo gets a better shot at breaking group because of this.

08 Jul 2016 15:44:49

08 Jul 2016 16:31:23
I don't think markovic will stay either but weather he does or not he is a much better player than Ibe. Ibe has not done anything at any sort of senior level. All his value comes from pace and potential. Markovic would be a decent option if he did stay, and probably has more potential to be honest, remember he is still young too.

08 Jul 2016 14:17:45
Hi Eds (probably 1 for Ed001, as I know Ed002 doesn't like giving opinion on individual people much),

With Klopp signing a new long term deal at Liverpool it reminded me of an article I read the other day that said that the Premier League now has 5 of the top 6 managers in the world, Guardiola, Klopp, Mourinho, Wenger and Conte. presumably the 6th they were talking about was Simeone but i'm not sure?

We all know about Mourinho and Wenger, but i'd love to hear your opinions on Conte and moreso on Guardiola.

For me Guardiola has been given incredible squads that are far and above the quality of the other teams in his league and has quite obviously been successful because of that. But is he anything special?

Would love to hear some other views as well. And whether you think there are any other managers that should fit into the same bracket.

Cheers all, have a great day.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I would say Ancelotti and Simeone have a right to be included in the top managers in the world list.

Difficult to judge Guardiola, he is a good coach, but is he a great one? It is hard to say as the quality of the players at his disposal has always been better than the rest of the league. It has to be said though, he really should have won more in terms of European trophies, which does let his record down. These next few seasons with City will be the first chance to really judge him.

Conte I do not particularly rate, not in terms of a long term manager. He is a short term firefighter, to step in patch things up and get them to a steady place. He has not shown any real tactical acumen, his Juve side struggled in Europe, where he was repeatedly shown up as lacking when up against better coaches. Again, these next few years are his real test, but he has to show a real improvement if he is to be a success. Personally I see him as nothing more than a steadying hand.}

08 Jul 2016 14:50:06
I wouldent call getting to a champions league final struggling personally.

08 Jul 2016 15:21:02
Simeone is the best manager in the world.
Continuously competing at the very top of European football with a club the size of Athletico, just imagine if he had the money of a Super Club!
For example if he went to Madrid. Scary.

08 Jul 2016 15:21:04
G-flex, it was Allegri that got them to the final not Conte.

08 Jul 2016 15:39:41
Juve reached the UCL final under Allegri, not Conte. I don't remember Juve making it past the knockouts in the UCL under Conte.

{Ed001's Note - exactly, Allegri took basically the same side to the final, while Conte did nothing in Europe but get found out.}

08 Jul 2016 16:17:02
Simeone for me, done a great job with Atletico given their position.

Mourinho has a great record but I think his invincible cloak has been tarnished, Wenger still has failed to deliver at the top level, Guardiola I think may or may not have it. we're about to find out, Conte I don't know enough about.

Of all of them, with the budget and rebuilding job we have, I'd really be happiest with Klopp, Simeone or maybe Emery, but of these Klopp is the most fun!

08 Jul 2016 17:23:12
I'm really happy we have Klopp.

I don't know too much about Conte but from having a little read of what eds said and if he struggled a bit in Italy i think he will find it a bit tough in England.

I rate Ancelotti a lot as well as Simeone both top top managers.

Mourinho has achieved a lot but i can't see him being any better than before at UTD, the only 2 players i like are DeGea and i think rashford has got a lot of talent and looks like he has a decent attitude. But he's not what Hazard was the season Chelsea won it so. I also think ibra could go 50/ 50 might work but he might struggle.

Guardiola is interesting as he always has had a team of the best players really, especially in Germany their isn't a club who's got the finances of BM. Where as at city quite a lot of the players i would say are declining a little bit. Though if De bryne and silva and fit and playing well and can get aguero playing more i think he will have a decent first season.

08 Jul 2016 17:57:35
Surprised you didn't add Bielsa to that list, Ed001. Probably because it was EPL, was it?

- Krishna.

09 Jul 2016 15:23:13
G-Flex, it was Allegri who got Juve to the CL final, not Conte. In fact, Allegri, has a much better record overall in Europe than Conte had. Ed is right, Conte struggled big time in Europe and even didn`t get out of the group stage.

08 Jul 2016 12:56:23
Don't quite understand some of the moaning about Klopps new contract, he only has 2 years left and if, for example, we win the FA cup and finish 3rd we'll be over the moon calling for a new contract when realistically someone like Madrid could come calling and have to pay little to no compensation to take him away. Yes it will cost a lot to sack him if he doesn't do well, but I see no reason to not give him an extension, most managers sign a new contract 1 year into their deals if they do a good job which I think 90% believe Klopp has done. Fsg have already showed they are happy to sack a manager on a long contract if needs be so everyone should calm down and look forward to the new season!

Believable12 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2016 13:59:17
A lot of people have been saying klopp haven't achieved anything, well to be honest I disagree. He took us to two finals and had a good chunk of his key players missing for that. He may not have achieve great success within the league this last term, but I truthfully believe we have found a cracking manage, and one who can take us forward into a new era. I'm very interested and excited about what the future may bring under klopp.

08 Jul 2016 14:16:05
I think most managers at top clubs will be assessed on how they do in the League and Champions League and not much else.

08 Jul 2016 14:16:39
Some people just love a good oul moan.

08 Jul 2016 16:20:34
Klopps built a solid foundation and a style of play in his first few months, as well as changing the mood of the fans and expectations of the players as to what they could achieve.

Judge him after this season for actual results. Top 4 this year and challenging next is my prediction.

08 Jul 2016 16:41:17
To be fair klopp gave up on the league foe the cup.

If we had of played full streghr I still think we would of finished 4th what was the difference at the end 7 points? The difference between 5th and 8th was like 3/ 4 points so its not as if we were trailling we just had different priorities.

We have just gained at least 3 points on Southampton by taking mane of them.

A good goal keeper will give us at least 3, a lb another 3. These little point differences can project you from last season up to 3rd. Onwards and upwards.

08 Jul 2016 17:25:03
I think Klopp did very well in the first season, he changed a very under performing team who had little confidence. Built a nice foundation and gave us a more exciting way of playing football. On another day we might have won the finals and he would have 2 cups in his first season. I'm very excited for next season!

09 Jul 2016 15:31:22
Some people just moan because others are moaning and if you ask them to tell you their reasons for doing it, they either have no reasons or their reasons are ridiculous or they parrot talking points from lazy pundits. Klopp achieved some great things despite all the injuries and poor form of players he had to deal with. He made a few mistakes and I agree but that comes with the territory so none to bothered about that provided he`s learning from them because all managers make mistakes. He improved players that we thought were inferior and that is the fundamental function of a coach, get the best out of the players you have. The league position was not great but one has to consider that we previledged the EL over the PL in the final stages of the season. We got to two finals and he made LFC relevant again in Europe even tho, we should have beaten Sevilla, IMO. Now, it will be interesting to see how he does as the acclimatization period is over.

08 Jul 2016 12:52:20

Thank you.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I expect Smith to go, sooner rather than later.}

08 Jul 2016 14:23:40
Any indication as to where he might go Ed?

{Ed001's Note - not yet.}

08 Jul 2016 12:27:51
It's hard to speculate all the reasons Klopp has for letting Ibe potentially go, and personally I'd have given him more time. The thing though is that it does present an opportunity now for Ryan Kent. Ojo will undoubtedly fill the Ibe role of last season, and now potentially Kent will be where Ojo was and get a few cameos as a means to introduce him into first team football. Whether he makes it or not nobody knows, but I hope Kent will get a chance or two now to show what he can do.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2016 13:14:31

Ibe needs game time and playing all the time, Eddie Howe can help him to develop hopefully. 15mil really hard to turn down and it's great from Liverpool to put a buy back clause in.

08 Jul 2016 12:07:43
Hey eds feeling a bit miffed

There's been some relatively big fish in the free agent market that I feel we should go after, D Rose, D Wade etc maybe even Joakim Noah but the fact we let the biggest free agent Kevin Durant go without even trying! Honestly this shows a serious lack of ambition on Klopp and now we're giving the guy a 6 year contract? Absolutely Baffling, we should've gone all out for Kevin Durant

;)

I am absolutely delighted we have given Klopp a longer contract. He is a superb manager and one I truly believe in and back fully. Have not had that feeling since Benitez early years.

Absolutely looking forward to this season and future seasons to come as we are on the up. It's not all about money, it's about talent and team work.

I think we have all the ingredients for great times ahead and some superb young talent in the squad.

08 Jul 2016 12:11:28
That is exactly why they did it. Your very first sentence.

08 Jul 2016 11:00:04
Question for ed001 if he is around.

With klopp extending his contract I was wondering if you knew the reasons behind his extension? He has only signed his first contract at the start of the season at we only finished 8th. Don't get me wrong I am pleased just wondering why you think the club though it was necessary with him only just signing?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea sorry.}

08 Jul 2016 11:09:19
There is definitely a reason behind it aswell it's nothing to do with what fsg statement says. You don't give a manager another contract after 8 months in charge and an 8th place finish.

Yes klopp has done great things and I'm happy he's our manager but this is very strange.

08 Jul 2016 11:15:28
Memory/ nightmare of Brendan Rodgers maybe? : )

08 Jul 2016 11:21:33
I speculated yesterday that it ties in with FSG's ownership plans over the next few years - all in on Klopp in the hope of some success whilst keeping the finances under control, raise the club's profile and worth, and then a sell-off?
I'm not sure what FSG have gained over their tenure at Liverpool, but Klopp offers the potential for a profit on return otherwise it's more of the same for FSG - watching the super clubs disappear further over the horizon.

08 Jul 2016 11:39:32
And what is it you would like rhino? What's wrong with controlling the budget and hoping for success? I think you play to much fifa this is the real world and klopp And his team are the best people for the job in FSGs eyes and most of the supporters to. So they have tied him down and are creating stability something we have lacked for years.

08 Jul 2016 11:42:52
He had 2 years left on his contract. If he was a player this wouldn't even be a discussion. If we had left it this summer, then next summer he'd have just a year left and our bargaining position is severely hampered.

I think it's all a lot of talk over relatively nothing, personally.

08 Jul 2016 11:44:02
I know let's go for Roy he is available.
Some people are never happy.
I.

08 Jul 2016 11:54:40
Why give him a short one in the first place then mk? He hasn't proved anything yet. Your well off imo.

08 Jul 2016 12:04:55
Lucky, not sure how you got to that conclusion, but let me clarify my position if may. What I meant is that LFC management need only to remember Rodgers time to realise how good Klopp has been. I am fan of the Kloppster, and some of the best games (emotionally) I have seen in recent memory has been under his management, and things are looking on the postive.

08 Jul 2016 12:41:26
They only done it to keep the fans happy to what's going to happen in the transfer window. Hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am.

08 Jul 2016 12:42:12
Maybe it has to do with the fact that Klopp wanted peace of mind that he'd be here for the long run. He likes projects and he spent 7 years at Mainz, 7 years at Dortmund and if he stays till 2022 which is how long the new contract is for, then he'd have spent close to 7 years with us too!

08 Jul 2016 10:41:01
Hello fellow reds and EDs

I think this is a great summer window so far. Bought what's needed. I think we are going to sign a left back, center mid, depending on Sakho's ban, maybe a central defender and finally look to replace any player we actually want whom decides to leave, which at this moment seem like none ( however report that couts might want to leave) .

We will see a lot of players leave us which will hopefully result with a positive net spend ( although the EDs hate money talk ) . All in all this will leave us with a smaller and better quality squad.

I for one believe we will surprise some of the bigger spending teams next season.

In Klopp we Trust.

08 Jul 2016 12:08:17
Agree wholeheartedly although I'm not 100% sure we really need another midfielder at this point. From what Ed002 has said it seems grujic will feature in and around the first team this season which doesn't leave much room even if we were only left with can, Henderson, grujic, Stewart, chirivella fighting for two places with milner able to cover I think there's plenty there for only 45 odd games which we'll have this year.

08 Jul 2016 10:39:37
Domlfc86, I did not know a mistake (gaffe) could be rewarded with a 6-year contract ☺.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

08 Jul 2016 12:03:38
LH9 there i didn't see any mistake anywhere. The best coach in the world deserves to be at the best club.

08 Jul 2016 15:59:33
I am surprised no one got what I meant. The guy in his post, instead of writing 'gaffer' wrote 'gaffe' (mistake) . That's why I said how a mistake can be rewarded with a 6-year contract.

08 Jul 2016 10:20:13
Morning the Red side, Blue in peace.

Well done with Klopp's new 6 year contract, its hard for us Blues this one as kills me to say this but we Blues all really like him, great manager and should put you back up there.

Believable11 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2016 14:22:27
Fair play to you murf. I hope your right.

09 Jul 2016 15:32:31
Koeman ain't that bad either.

08 Jul 2016 10:10:32
Hi Ed 01, where did you think did it went all wrong for Ibe who you and we all thought would have bigger future than Sterling?

Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - just happens sometimes, things didn't go right in a few games, he picked up knocks, confidence dipped and he lost his way a little.}

08 Jul 2016 10:17:57
Ed001 In your opinion is this the right decision?

{Ed001's Note - no, I think there are a lot of other players I would rather see leave, but I understand it.}

08 Jul 2016 10:25:42
Wouldn't a loan to a premium club have been better?

08 Jul 2016 11:19:50
Does this change anything in respect of markovic? Still think he'll go but he might get chances in pre season now as there doesn't seem to be any deal lined up for him at the moment.

{Ed001's Note - no, he is still available.}

08 Jul 2016 11:46:53
Edd001 is there any interest elsewhere for milner or do you expect him to stay mate?

{Ed001's Note - little interest mate, wages are a sticking point.}

08 Jul 2016 12:04:08
I actually completely spaced on brannagan posting the above, I think he is a very good player which renders what I was saying a bit moot, maybe a loan for brannagan then as I don't see a major amount of game time for him unless milner or lalanna are also to leave.

08 Jul 2016 12:01:10
I suppose lalanna and milner will be certainties to stay then, as I think one or both of these may leave at the end of the season wouldn't mind the club looking at a deal for a young attacking player and leaving them on loan at a club to develop for a year similar to origi, even though his loan probably didn't do wonders for him.
Is coric an attacking player or does he play deeper, I know zilch about him bar varying reports on here but a deal for a player like that and leaving them to play football for a year would seem like good forward thinking for me, especially if we also have the possibility of losing coutinho over the next 12 months.

08 Jul 2016 17:28:15
I'm a bit gutted about Jordan. I really liked him and i know he didn't have the best season but at the same time you can see the potential he has and he's still so young. But at the same time if he's going to be playing week in week out at Bournemouth and wasn't going to be at pool i think it probably is the right move, it looks like his confidence is pretty low so just going being a first team starter should get him back on track :) I hope he rips it up there!

09 Jul 2016 15:37:58
I wouldn't mind one leaving this season if Lallana left this season and miner the next because Mane is better on the right than both of them while at CM, they aren`t good enuff.

08 Jul 2016 10:10:25
With the players now starting to leave and transfer fees starting to come in; Ed's are we looking to make a "profit" on transfer fees this Summer to start to toe FFP rules? or will it happen as a natural consequence of having too big a squad and over spending previously?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - what a strange question, every club wants to make a profit on transfers.}

08 Jul 2016 11:36:25
I think what the above may mean is positive net spend in terms of ins and outs? Correct me if i'm wrong!

08 Jul 2016 11:54:18
Again obviously every club would like a negative net spend but it will depend on what players we buy and sell and what fees we have to pay/ recieve, the board won't be at a meeting with a week to go in the window having a net spend of a few million and decide we have to sell sturridge to balance the book for the window if that's what you're getting at.

08 Jul 2016 10:07:29
If Dahoud really is an option.

Would anyone else prefer to give Stewart the chance?

Unless I'm way off the mark and they're entirely different players?

Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

08 Jul 2016 10:59:43
For Stewart's sake I hope he gets chances to play this season. But at the current rate of players acquisition he's chances look slim. He's a good tidy player but he doesn't have the attributes that Dahoud has/ seem to have, tenacity.

08 Jul 2016 11:37:24
Can people stop saying give this player a chance there 2 different football players.

08 Jul 2016 12:21:51
Apologies Redmen. You clearly know your stuff about what Dahoud and Stewart have to offer in a team.

Please enlighten us and fill us in on the pair.

I was under the impression that Stewart was a strong ball playing defensively minded midfielder. How does Dahoud compare?

Good morning folks. Any update on the sakho inquest? I believe it was on Thursday but haven't heard anything. Thanks in advance.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

08 Jul 2016 09:59:02
I believe it will take some time to review and come to a decision. Thursday was only his hearing and his plea as far as I understand it. When the ruling is released it will be hard to miss I'd imagine.

08 Jul 2016 10:06:08
We won't find out until at least after next week.

08 Jul 2016 10:07:58
Cheers red herring 👍.

08 Jul 2016 07:47:16
Eds, general question about the Sweeper. Is this now a dead position never to be seen again? Are the DMs now that type of role as usually they drop back to the middle of the the two CBs and take out possesion?

Could you see it coming back and if so would we have one at the club already? Maybe Can?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is pretty much the DM role now, instead of coming out from the back to make an extra body in midfield, they drop back to make an extra body in defence. Similar thing.}

08 Jul 2016 10:11:16
Cheers. Do we have one Ed or are we in need of one? I see Can eventually but he is too forward running minded and Lucas seems on his way. Is Henderson disciplined enough, skilful enough? Is it still more for the old heads who prefer to sit back and read the game rather then bombing around?

Thinking along the likes of Hoddle, Guillet in their latter years.

{Ed001's Note - Lucas and no one needs one, it is just a different way of playing. Very few teams play with a proper DM now. Leicester have shown that workrate and discipline can cover the gaps as well as just having an extra body there.}

08 Jul 2016 13:43:04
Gerrard played that role 2 years ago, While Dier does that now for Spurs and England. Lack of ball playing defenders are one of the reason ( Sakho helps us on that front ) .
What it gives you an additional player at the back which helps your full backs to charge very high.

09 Jul 2016 15:42:10
Which is why buying Matip is a great deal. He is a DM who can play CB hence, with him at DM atimes, we can play a back three and also play with a sweeper in front of the CB`s as Ed says.

08 Jul 2016 07:46:51

Has to be Gomes and Steward for me. Flanno and the new keeper guy are worth keeping an eye on. Read some where the Grujic might have to miss this 1 with his work permit issue only being resolved now. Should be fun for our young players aswel.

08 Jul 2016 05:30:32

07 Jul 2016 20:14:13
Eds, do any of you know who are the most highly rated academy players at Liverpool at the moment?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I seem to answer this question every other week! It would help if I knew exactly what you mean by academy though. Do you include players brought in at 16 or so, who have very little real connection to the academy, or purely players that have been produced by the academy?}

08 Jul 2016 08:35:29
Brooks lennon highly thought of?

{Ed001's Note - by some, not all though.}

08 Jul 2016 09:40:37
There are pretty big changes to our youth ranks at the moment. This coming season will be a big measure of which of the lads might make it and which won't. I'm excited about the new EFL trophy. Any idea when the draw is? Charlton, Sheff United and Leyton Orient would be fun. :)

08 Jul 2016 10:24:05
Players in the U21 and U18s.

08 Jul 2016 04:00:59
Not a transfer related post, but here in the states, it's often difficult to find Liverpool on tv. Especially when it is the league cup, etc. Does anyone subscribe to lfc go through lfc. tv? Does it live stream every game, is it available in the states, does it buffer much? Any insight would be great!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2016 06:41:46
It is worth it. They stream most friendlies. When season started you can watch all 90 min if you miss the game on tv. I have been using it for several years it is worth it. Never have problem with speed.
Go for it.

08 Jul 2016 06:54:47
It's pret good, has all the games 24 hours after theyre, costs about $10 a month I think.

07 Jul 2016 21:40:45
Hi Eds.
Just looking at LFCs retained players list for 16/ 17 and noticed Jack Dunns name is on it
Does this mean Klopp rates him?

I think he is a special player and hooes he gets a chance this year.

Tks for the great site.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he wants to give him a chance. You are right it is a surprise as injuries had looked to have completely derailed his career.}

08 Jul 2016 04:51:35
Dunn is recovering from an injury and last season was his most difficult by all means. I suspect if he stays, he will play for the U21s though I see little chance of him breaking into the first team as it stands especially coming back from such a injury ravaged season.

07 Jul 2016 21:18:07
So watching Ed2 and Ed1 disagree on the skills og Jürgen Klopp is actually great, that shows there independence on here.
But Ed2 by bringing in Kornmayer, don't you think Klopp has learnt a lesson from his last years in germany?

Another one for Ed1. I rember Deportivo in the late 90 or mabye early 00, mabye inventing the 4-3-2-1 system, Benitez adopting it later, is that correct?

They also had a lot og freekick varaitys (spelling i'm danish) . Why doesn't teams try to be a bit more creative With the freekicks around the box, is it the players insisting being the hero of the day or?

In the same Category, I remember Mexico having very much succes with their ability to pull half of the opposition offside, with freekicks into the box. Has anyone tried this in the prem, or is it to much a risk with so many different language in the teams today?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Rafa played a 4-2-3-1, though there is very little real difference between the two. Rafa would watch football and constantly evolve his style slightly, he never really adopted one style as such.

As for free kicks, the reason so few teams bother with free kick routines is because they take so much effort to learn and set them up and you can only use them once in blue moon or the opposition are ready for them.

Lots of teams try variations to get opponents off side, from leaving a couple of players in an offside position and having them drop back just before it is taken to the old fashioned fake to take and then take.}

08 Jul 2016 06:17:41
Ed while you are commenting on Rafa, why was he so distant from the players?

It's well documented in the media of stevie and xabi and co commenting about how distant he was, was there any particular reason for this and do u think it was effective?

Regards.

{Ed001's Note - because he didn't want difficult decisions influenced by personal feelings towards players if he became friendly to them. A bit like the way Wenger and Hodgson persist with Jack Wheelchair because they like him, despite him being entirely average, always injured and having a dreadful attitude.

It was effective when he had Pako to act as the friendly uncle and put his arm round the players, while Rafa stood off and watched from a distance. Without that buffer, it failed. If he has the right number two assisting him, then Rafa's style works well.}

08 Jul 2016 06:42:54
@Niallo - good question and equally interesting response from the Ed.

08 Jul 2016 08:46:51
Red-JC mentioned the issue of plethora of different languages, many a time I noticed that lack of communication especially between the midfield and back four. I read somewhere that Klop has enrolled the team in some kind of communication improvement programme. I hope this is true.

08 Jul 2016 09:38:17
Ed001, interesting response about Rafa, and it failing without Pako. But didn't we finish 2nd, just missing out, well after Pako had gone?

{Ed001's Note - it takes time for changes to show their full effects mate. Nobody realised how much we would miss Valero for years.}

08 Jul 2016 09:47:53
Fair point. I always felt it was such a shame shame Pako left, and no doubt you're right about Valero too. It's frustrating that so many poor decisions have been made over the years, which have held us back.

08 Jul 2016 10:17:35
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

08 Jul 2016 12:12:05
I love posts and threads like these, massive thanks to posters and ED1 for this beauty.

08 Jul 2016 17:36:10
To be honest i think the eds could write a book. I love reading stuff like that from eds01 and also i like reading his analysis of players from the older generations i was born in 92 so i missed the earlier years of the redmen but i still love learning about all the old greats and managers also i really love readings ed2s insights into the business side of football more. I like coming on here just for the banter and stuff but i read a lot of just what the eds are saying you can learn a lot!

08 Jul 2016 00:17:42
Evening Eds and Reds,

I've just returned from an extremely tiring trip which to Lyon which began late on Tuesday night. I've had a long car journey to reflect on the Wales game. I don't slag my players off, club or country, however I will admit when I think someone is not good enough.

For all those on this crusade to keep Joe Allen, please stop. The lad is just not good enough for Liverpool if we want to progress. As I'm someone who lives less than 30 mins from where wee Joe was born, not many will want him to be a success at Anfield more than me.

However, when it comes to the big games, against more quality opposition, he just isn't good enough. He is worse than what we have? Not massively, but we should be looking to improve the squad, not 'do O.K'

He's still a hero in my eyes from a Welsh point of view, as they all are, but as a Liverpool fan, he has to go if there's good offers in for him.

Time to rest, ready for the long trip up to Tranmere tomorrow.

Together Stronger, YNWA.

Believable8 Unbelievable3

08 Jul 2016 02:44:16
Good post mate. He's good and could get better. And he's had enough time to impress at Liverpool. But he's lack of pace, touch, and game awareness short sell his efforts. So not suitable for the current setup at LFC.

08 Jul 2016 07:35:10
He has had a great Euros and shown that he is good enough to stay at LFC.

He is a good squad player for us and whilst I don't think he will ever be first choice he can make an impact off the bench.

For Wales he got a little rash in the first 15 mins of games and whilst he didn't have the best of games against Portugal he was playing with a yellow card for 80 mins.

I say we keep Joe for another season. We don't have the depth in the squad. Pending any good offers for him!

08 Jul 2016 09:16:20
Too many midfield players at the moment. And the younger players need game time, ideally 2 players per position and youngsters coming in is more than enough.

And Joe should be playing at his age.

08 Jul 2016 09:30:31
I just don't see why Joe is getting the stick for Wales going out to Portugal.

Yes he mis-placed some passes.
Yes he got caught on the ball.

However, he kept on wanting the ball and kept on trying to make things happen.

Ledley was anonymous in terms of linking play, as was Andy King. Ramsey's movement wasnt available and James Collins cannot pass a ball out from defence.

Against good opposition you cannot have 1 midfield player trying to make it happen.

Yes, he's had better games but the whole team performance was flat and this is not down to Joe.

07 Jul 2016 23:34:51
Any thoughts on how our defence will look next season? Matip is a good addition and going off the hype surrounding him from his time at Schalke would go straight into the first team, but at who's expense? Sakho and Lovren really did a job at the back end of last season.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2016 01:01:00
Matip and Lovren for me. I still feel uneasy with the ball at Sakho's feet and the regularity with which he goes to ground.

08 Jul 2016 02:20:04
Call it a crazy idea if you like but I'd like to see how Sakho plays sitting in front of the defence. After seeing him run forward with the ball, as unnerving as it may be, I think he'd be more than comfortable in that role as it allows him to move up the pitch and still have two CBs behind him if possession is lost. He sure has one hell of a pass on him too! But as I said, call it a crazy idea.

08 Jul 2016 03:06:18
I do like Sakho as a character, and he's had some good games and bad ones. He's done well for guy with feet that disagree with each other. He's good positionally and against big forwards, but lost in space against pace. I am not saying that he's should go, but Matip and Lovren can excel due to pace and ball skills.

Having said that, this is what preseason is for, and I'll just wait to whatever partnership is go as long as it works.

{Ed001's Note - Sakho has a lot more pace than Lovren.....}

08 Jul 2016 06:44:50
Sakho is a much better defender than Lovren and proved on numerous times last season. They were forming an effective partnership but the preference, for me, would be a Sakho/ Matip pairing next season - just hope Matip settles and adapts quickly to the PL.

08 Jul 2016 07:38:42
Sakho always looks clumsy on the ball. I've never been convinced by him. He is brave and gives his all but always looks surprised and panicked when the ball arrives at his feet!

08 Jul 2016 08:09:51
That's right. He LOOKS clumsy. He terrifies us all when he's on the ball as he LOOKS so ungainly. But he simply doesn't give the ball away, he has a really high pass success rate. His big concern for me is when he allows the ball to bounce between himself and a striker, that's when his errors occur, not when in possession.

08 Jul 2016 08:30:18
He looks clumsey and panicked buy has a high pass completion rate if I'm not mistaken. He deals with bigger players better and saying he's slower than lovern (nope) . His heading improved too.

08 Jul 2016 09:11:15
Ahh the clumsy debate again yet he is always in the top 5 defenders in the prem for passing. When he is on song he is miles better than lovren but he is prone to the odd bad game where he maybe loses concentration.

If he gets past the drugs hearing unscathed i would wager him plus an other being the preferred pairing.

But people should not discount joe gomez, provided he has fully recovered from the knee injury and makes good progress he has the potential to be better than all of them.

08 Jul 2016 09:48:24
Alot of folks under rate his ability on this ball just because he looks clumsy on the ball same as Hendo running. But if you look at how his set of skills with ball actually open up space for our CMs to get the ball you might see his job in the team when attacking. As Ginja1995 said he does have a high pass completion rate. He will have his moments but his ability on the ball seems better than a few.

08 Jul 2016 13:16:25
Sakho is by far the superior player. Lovren is in the same bracket as skrtel, he had a shocking 14/ 15 season filled with errors and pitiful performances. When klopp arrived his performance levels slightly increased and we have fans thinking he should be starting. He was made a laughing stock in France, with southmapton he was protected by wanyama. He should be nowhere near the first team. Joe Gomez should be given the minutes instead of lovren.

09 Jul 2016 15:48:01
The clumsy part is a false debate that his detractors use to beat him up where as anyone with a brain knows that Sahko is our best CB, period. Skrtel doesn`t look clumsy on the ball yet everyman and his dog knows he is a dreadful defender and can`t pass the ball out of the back 5 yards to save his life. So what do you want, exactly? A defender who can do his job or one who only looks the part? A bad game? everyone has one so that`s no issue for me provided they come on very rare occasions.

07 Jul 2016 22:01:28
Just wondering if anyone could answer this, would Wycombe be entitled to any ibe money?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2016 03:10:56
Yeah, if the contract between Liverpool and Wycombe stupilated that.

{Ed001's Note - it is irrelevant, all the clubs which contributed to his youth development get a share of 5% of any transfer fees for the player.}

07 Jul 2016 21:42:42
Is it true that there is a buy back and sell on clause in ibes transfer to Bournemouth?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

08 Jul 2016 03:28:16
Why is buyback such a hot topic?

I am sure Bournmouth would entertain a counter offer from Liverpool. Instead of the (15M) offered, LFC would take (3M) but with a buyback clause.

Imagine a reverse scenario, let's say Suarez, Coutinuho, Sturrige, Mane and others had a buyback clause when Liverpool purchased them.
