Hi Ed's and Fellow LFC fans,

Apart from spending countless hours on this site checking for any updates, I have had a couple of looks at the villa page over the last couple of days to check out any new downing news. This is what I found there tonight

Villa chiefs will meet with liverpool on monday to begin talks of a shock switch between new liverpool signing Charlie Adam & Stewart Downing if the kop agrees it will meen adam will not even play for a club he only signed for this week. . . . . . . *** THIS IS TRUE AS I AM RELATED TO ADAMS AGENT ****

What a laugh I read this about an hour ago and I'm still laughing. They are getting desperate in the midlands

Raul M left out of trip to Asia - Looks like he is on his way out. Ed's any thoughts?

First time poster spotted this in an online Irish paper
Following the capture of Charlie Adam, Michel Bastos has emerged as the latest player to be linked with a move to Anfield.

The 27 year old is currently on the books of Lyon but is being allowed to leave the French outfit this summer and recently saw a 12 million move to Italian side juventus collapse?

08 Jul 2011 23:33:40
Recently we have been linked with players from France or at least, playing in the french league, specially the likes of Sakho (PSG), Cissokoho (Lyon), Matuidi (Saint Etienne), Chu Young (Monaco) and Boudebouz (Sochaux). How do u rate that Eds? Are the interest for real, or just bull from media? {Ed002's Note - The interest is good.}

apparently cissokho was left out of lyons 1st pre season tour so fingers crossed if we sign him his name on the new third kit.DORSET RED

I hate the fact that everyone says its all down to KK, FSG and DC. Lets not forget Steve Clarke He has been immensely important in our rebuilding process

08 Jul 2011 23:21:13
This is a shot in the dark, a huge one, but let me explain.
I believe it was in 2000/01 John Arne Riise blagged on he was set for a fulham transfer to force liverpools hand. We signed him and give him the 17 jersey.
Riise is set for a move to fulham, and is in the country, our number 17 is available and we are after a left back, Riise is only 30 and I believe we missed out on his prime.
JAR - Liverpool? :)

Listen everyone, the reason we aren't going for Mata or any other Spanish player is because if they play well for 1 or 2 seasons who are going to come calling? Barca or Real. Hes spanish so he's obviously going to want to go back to Spain and play for Barca. It just makes sense for Liverpool to get British players. How many British players move throughout the top 6 of the premier league? Not many Thats why I think we will get Downing and Baines.

T-Dog.

08 Jul 2011 23:17:59
Stop the foreigner rumours - Dalglish successful teams are British, Work Ethic, Not all World Class - Downing, Dann to come. Left back and goalie may break this rule as cost/availability dictates too.

Hi eds, great site. I am a long time user of this site but this is the first time posting. My sources are telling me that liverpools search for a young English defender is none other than Micah Richards. We made an enquiry in January but nothing materialised, but now city have bought savic, maybe there's more of a possibility? I personally feel he is a great player who as real strength who makes himself known, he can easily intimidate opponents and heart for the game, which is just what we need and would cost around the £10million mark, I personally feel this would be a great signing, what do you think eds?
BigMan {Ed009's Note - he would cost more than that - we had a bid of 20 million rejected in January. What's more with the emergence of Kelly I doubt we will buy a right back, even though Richards can play at centre back.}

08 Jul 2011 22:59:14
Henderson to wear number 14 next season leaving jovanavic without a squad number

08 Jul 2011 22:58:47
Mata will not be going to arsenal as if reports are true that they have put in a bid of 15m Valencia will be furious as you do start bidding low but not 10m short so arsenal would be out of the running if it is true. And the reports of Bastos an cissoko are true cissoko will join after the Asia tour so that kk can get a look at our lb we have at the moment to make sure it is nessesery

08 Jul 2011 22:52:43
The signings we have made since KK came back were all done the same way...when LFC have done something....then we will know about it. I am sick and tired of all the wild speculalation that goes on, most of it is newspapers trying to make up a story, any story, so their "sports-writers" have something to justify their existence

took this from a guy who commented on givemefootball about the aly cissokho link.DORSET RED

None of the eds on here have a clue whats going on. They all seem to follow whats in the papers...
Mark my words. Barrera is part of the konchesky deal. Bargain buy of the summer. Ticks all the boxes. Don't have a weak foot, can cross, can go past a player with ease, young, quick and has played in the premiership. He will be perfect cover for the two big gun wingers that are coming in..
The fact that the eds haven't a clue means nothing.
MaN in The Know... Barrera will be a liverpool player before the end of the month.YNWA {Ed009's Note - I assure you I take very little notice of the players. It has been said on here about Downing signing long before the tabloids cottoned on.}

Chopper Read, your getting some stick lad. First your posting name and then later for your post lol. It seems he's got a few grammer problems but enough people who post on here do.I read every post on here from dusk till dawn and we dont need snobs on here putting people down for writing a positive if a bit misguided post. Dont let knobs like that guy put you off posting lad. It wasn't that bad of a read lad just a bit long a bit of grammer, oh and dont mention Scum players. At least you post your name, not like the texan who criticised it. Last thing a little tip, we have warriors like the guy who was so offended by your post, but like i said, keep U*D players out of any future discussions, unless your taking the piss lad and you'll be fine. 08 Jul 2011 22:38:20
Ed do you think there was anything in john henrys tweet about Valencia? I personally think downing will be a good signing if we just take the money aspect out of it coz as John Henry said when he came if they believe a player is worth a certain amount they will pay it, so I don't think it will have a knock on affect on other transfers we are still going to go for the players that we need or whoever kk and dc believe we needwhat you think Ed? Dubred {Ed009's Note - his follow up tweet where he effectively took everything back makes me think he knew what he was saying was a mistake. But if Kenny said he desperately wanted the player, I'm sure they'd pay.}

08 Jul 2011 22:31:18
Suarez has ambition to play for Barcelona some day. In order to achieve this goal he will have to play some great football for LFC. This is great news to hear because Barcelona will only sign players that are of the highest calibre. Hopefully Suarez will prove this quality for at least 3-4 seasons at Anfield.

08 Jul 2011 22:28:43
martin kelly was a revelation at right back last year now say we buy a quality left back which we will glen johnson has just signed a new contract so kenny rates but i cant see him playing him right mid because he would of done it last season when we were crying out for width what would u do ed would you put kelly in centre half or choose between johnson and kelly for right back {Ed009's Note - I'd put Kelly at a mix between the two, and Johnson a mix between right back and right mid. It was Kenny's intention to try Johnson out on the wing last season but injuries stopped this. Rotation will be key}

08 Jul 2011 22:28:29
Ed or others posters, do you know any of our targets or players we have been linked with that only wear number 17, like Torres with numer 9?

08 Jul 2011 22:19:57
Ed do you think if we will buy downing for around 18 million and then if we will go for another winger it will be of low cost, and the players like N'zogbia and ryad boudebouz will become more likely in comparison to Juan Mata , Adam Jhonson, Santi cazorla and James Milner. {Ed009's Note - personally I think if we do buy another winger it would be pointless to make it a squad signing, as we already have Henderson who can operate there to a good level. I can only seeing us making a signing there if it improves the first team.}

08 Jul 2011 22:07:17
Eds with us now strongly linked too s.downing, which i rate as a solid player and i know will do a job for us.While we go after him i think we should look at villas ciaran clark.He can play lb cb(6'4) , he is a very good player and at twenty two years old fits our policy.What is your opinion on this player eds ?(RD.RED) {Ed009's Note - he is decent enough but I doubt Villa will be wanting to sell anymore of their layers and he is no more than another random name I'm afraid.}

08 Jul 2011 22:06:14
Neven Subotic at CB? Former target of Arsenal, and Ancelotti wanted him as part of a dream team with Luiz.

Read all the wants/don't wants I came to my own conclusion:

All I want is for Stevie Gerrard to stay injury free

ed can you please tell when does the transfer window close......Cheers..... fan from bulgaria {Ed009's Note - 31st August at midnight.}

08 Jul 2011 21:55:13
I think we will get rid of either Aquilani or meireles.

at the beginning of the window we were linked with strikers but after connor wickham went to sunderland nothing has happened. Why has everything gone quiet on the striker front

I expect us to sign Downing a left back a young medium priced striker and another signing after doni signs and does anyone know what is happening with brad jones if we sign doni.

08 Jul 2011 21:48:38
There will be French players joining LFC because of the Camolli connection.

08 Jul 2011 21:30:15
Eds, Question:
Given our current team. What formation do you expect we will play assuming everyone is fit. And who would play where?

Thanks,
Seth {Ed009's Note - It is foolish to predict Kenny and we will play several different formations, but usually a variation on the 4-4-2, with it becoming 4-3-3 when we're attacking.}

08 Jul 2011 21:29:42
Apparently Mata is desperate to join Liverpool but is gutted they are not in the Champions league as he needs the exposure. He is trying to decide if he wants to join and put up with it for a year or to join a Spanish club who are sniffing around. He would prefer to try his luck in England first while he is young and learn our game.

08 Jul 2011 21:27:55
I know this is getting boring now but it has got to be said.
If AFC have bid 15 million for Mata and get him i will be gutted.Come on kk and dc quality player with silky skills will get most of money back in shirt sales.
Turan, Hazard, n'zogbia or Downing other so called targets.I personally think KK is playing a cat and mouse game keeping others guessing as to who the REAL targets are.1 of the above plus a left back plus a surprise.
Great site eds keep up the good work.

08 Jul 2011 21:17:30
Hey Ed

Just seeking your opinion.Would you like LFC to sign:

Adam Johnson or Stewart Downing,
Leighton Baines or Jose Enrique,
Scott Dann or Gary Cahill,
Thibaut Courtois or Alexander Doni and
Daniel Sturridge or Nolan Roux

Thanks and enjoy the weekend

YNWA - G315T {Ed009's Note - Johnson, Baines, Dann, Doni, Sturridge. That is not to suggest that the players I omitted are not good - many of them are, and this is just my opinion.}

08 Jul 2011 21:12:41
with no euro football this season hope we put out full teams in fa cup and league cup this season we need to win one of them. with other top teams in europe they will rest players till later stages so no excuses for not getting to semis in each competition come on the reds

08 Jul 2011 21:10:04
If Tevez leaves mcity whoever they sign they will be weaker, scum will struggle to finish in top 4 this season, aresenal on the decline, spurs one season wonder, chelsea should get stronger, by my reconning top 4 a formality with a good chance of premiership, happy days to be a lfc fan the good days are back, just one more signing MATA please. {Ed009's Note - I honestly don't know how you can decide that United will struggle to get top 4.}

08 Jul 2011 21:06:25
would be fantastic to sign mata and cissokho. what a fantastic squad. with kelly and agger fit dont need a new centre half, only other consideration would be another forward i would go for defoe.

08 Jul 2011 21:03:08
i agree with you ed that downing seems to be top priority, but we seem to be holding back a little compared to lets say the henderson deal. we went straight back with an improved offer after the first was rejected, but with dowing we seem reluctant to do the same. also with the loss of ashley young, and villa fans looking for any excuse to hang mcleish, i dont see him selling downing this year, and would prefer a lesser fee next year and the highest possible finish this coming season. could be wrong but 20m for stewart dowing is alot of money. and i think other options are seriously being looked at, n'zogbia being a prime example.

i know your sick of telling people that downing is number 1 target, but do you think kk will get his man ed?

matt 27 {Ed009's Note - Its right in the balance right now but if I had to guess I'd say yes.}

08 Jul 2011 20:52:49
Hello Ed, The most frustrating thing about this site is how people keep asking repetitive questions. Like have you heard anything about Downing, Mata, Turan etc... I honestly wish people would read posts before asking. Do they think that you are not going to tell us any information that you hear.
Brilliant Addictive site... Keep up the good work.. {Ed009's Note - Ed002 would love this post. The worst part is that thats after we delete about half of them.}

08 Jul 2011 20:45:30
Eds just wondereing heard alot of rumours floating around about this aly cissikho do you rate him what is the chances of us getting him and relisticcly targets which wingers would you like us to go for? {Ed009's Note - he is a very good left back. Him and Baines are the only two I really want to see us go for. Both us and Arsenal are interested in the player, but I think Enrique is more likely still. I would love to see us get two of Downing, Mata and Johnson.}

08 Jul 2011 20:42:32
MVilla who has ben rumoured for LFC wears the number 17 shirt for club and country

08 Jul 2011 20:38:53
Ed tony barrett seemed certain downing will join, however buy the way villa are talking do you think it is as certain as that or do you think it might not happen? {Ed009's Note - there is always a chance, but provided McLeish is reasonable, the deal will happen.}

08 Jul 2011 20:33:14
Greg Van Wiel is sat in brazil (restaurant in Liverpool) right now having something to eat with aqualani and 2 others. Don't really no what to make of that, great player but not in an area we have a problem as I think he's a right back. Surely if he was staying in holland he would be there with preseason started. If not us maybe on his way to city.

Liverpool are looking for a young future superstar. So expect Mata, Hazard ect one to be signed by the end of the window. My kid goes to the same nursery as Dalgleash's daughters kid. He came home and kept saying MATA. My moneys on my inteligent 3yr old. More reliable than most posts on here ;) great site ed keep up the good work

reports are linking us to the two left sided players from lyon, cissoko, and bastos. both would be great, bastos imparticular, however bastos at 27 (i think), maybe be a little old for FSG'S policy.
ed have you heard anything? i thought bastos was nailed on for juventus, but they seem to be in for everyone at the moment.

matt 27 {Ed009's Note - he was a likely signing for Juventus at one point but that seems to have broken down. I doubt we will sign the player as I know of no interest. The priority winger is, I'll say it again, Downing.}

08 Jul 2011 20:17:34
Hi eds/macca,

Just curious if you think we will sign another striker? We need better back up than ngog an much as I like kuyt he is not going to supply masses of goals and with carrolls injury issues we sure could use another

Mr E {Ed009's Note - I think there is a chance - interest in Hoarau has rekindled somewhat interestingly enough - but it certainly not a priority and I think we will do just fine with the three strikers we have - especially considering Gerrard may well play just off a lone striker at times.}

08 Jul 2011 20:08:45
just heard that cissoko has moved a step closer, dont know how he must be walking to mellwood

08 Jul 2011 20:01:13
Hi again Ed,
You say LFC hope Downing's price to decrease after he has talks with Villa bosses. Do you know if the talks have taken place, or when they will?

Also, i'm not fussed when he's signed, but do you think the club will make a concerted effort to get him signed before we leave on Sunday for Asia?

Thanks
Burnsy {Ed009's Note - I imagine they will take place over the weekend, or if not, early next week. The club will be making a concerted effort to make all signings as soon as possible so they can take part in as much pre-season training as possible.}

08 Jul 2011 19:58:42
Alonso won't be coming back, I'd like him back more than anyone, he is one of my favourite ever players but with Henderson being given the number 14 shirt I believe Kenny does not have any plans for him to return. Also there is alot of talk of Maxi leaving but his squad number has been changed to 11 it is highly unlikely that he will leave after that.

Why did u not place any of my posts in rumours ed? iv posted 5 times over de past month and none of them have been accepted? its not lik i had complete bull in any of the posts like most other people tat get accepted have?? {Ed009's Note - there are several Ed's and I have not purposeful deleted any of your posts. If they are replicas of something else they will not be posted though. It really would help if everyone posted under a name or nickname.}

08 Jul 2011 19:45:16
Ed on downing do you expect mcleish to lower the fee after talks with him? I think that they will stick to 20m even if downing hands in transfer request, they were stubborn with barry and milner when they wanted to go {Ed009's Note - I think that if Downing hands in a transfer request it will lower the price a small amount as it will mean Downing losing the 5% of transfer money stipulated in his contract. So only by a million or so.}

08 Jul 2011 19:42:56
To the stupid Manc t**t who's jealous of how the our so called second string midfield would get into the middle of the park at Utd. At least 6 would start if they were at Utd, prob 7 with Spearing being better then Carrick. Want to let you into a little secret manc t**t. Games are won and lost in midfield where we'll have the strongest in the Prem. To say our defence is s**t is bulls**t. Why did you think Reina went crazy when Fulham scored? Because he that goal ended his chance of winning another golden gloves award and look at the start we had. We could do with a centre back with the ledgened that is J.C having a couple more season's left max.Skirtl is a better player then people give him credit for but he's not in Agger's class. If he can stay fit, their is no doubt in my mind he's a World class centre back.Best footballing centre back i've seen, only Paul McGrath, when at Villa was the best centre half in europe at the time comes close. Agger at his best makes Franz Ferdinand Upson at best footballing wise. We've Kelly who also play their, but who's gonna be a world class right back. Forward's close, but Suarez and Carroll will terrorise defences more then Utd's front line especially with the service they'll receive. Just get the left back position sorted and a could more top players and belive me. I can see Liverpool just take it to another level next season. If we get Mata great if not we'll still take 3 point banker every year without him .We are gonna be right up their as sure as night follows day. Be worried Scum because you sign can sign who you want it wont make no difference to us smashing you. Downing, Cazorla/Mata, Enrique/Cissokho and i'd buy the other forward from Monaco cant spell his name, not the Korean the other one and number 19 is on its way. Never been as positive for a long time over our team/most of squad. Chopper Read .Ps I know he played for scum but if people think Ledley king is class because he doesn't train. Nothing on Paul McGrath though.

Everton are struggling for transfer funds and Baines MUST be available with a reasonable offer. I've mentioned before that Everton expected to off-load Rodwell to fund any transfers, but as there are no concrete offers for the lad I'm sure that they would be tempted to sell Baines with the right offer, regardless of the interested party. I don't wish to sound all high-and-mighty and give the impression that we should splash out on everyone, but there is no smoke without fire and i'm convinced that Kenny has made an enquiry. This lad can play and get stuck in.

Ed im confused what really happened with reina when he wanted to leave. How was he convinced to stay? {Ed009's Note - Arsenal were incredibly close to sealing the transfer last summer and if it wasn't for their awful negotiator he would be playing for them right now. He continued to want out during Hodgson's reign I believe, and it was only the new era with Dalglish that has made him want to be a part of Liverpool's future.}

ED I want to know that in which areas we nead to strengthen our team and in your opinion after signing Henderson and Adam for what places do you think we will buy players.
I think a left back, winger and a centre back and if we sell Raul and Aqualini will sign one more midfielder.

What you say {Ed009's Note - we will buy a left back and a left winger. Other than that the most likely goes: centre back, right winger, striker probably. No more midfielders I'd imagine.}

Just watching a couple of fans on ssn giving opinions on the new stadium and I know people are entitled to their own, but are they letting their heart rule their heads. I know most people will not agree with me, but it is time to move on before we get left behind. Yes, we can renovate and add more seats, and you can renovate an old house. But, after a couple of years it will look tired again. You can move to a new house and, like the wife says, you can put your own stamp on it [we will still have the best support in the world and create our own atmosphere] we need to move with the times. We need to generate more money and whether we like it or not this means a lot more corporate facilities as well as bigger crowds. I think Mr Henry genuinely cares about the fans and is worried about upsetting them, and this is why he is looking at the option of Anfield, but deep down knows a new stadium is needed. Would any fan like it if Everton got a Sugar Daddy and they got the option to build a superb new stadium there? I know there is the sentiment involved, but the likes of Arsenal soon forgot about Highbury and Derby County soon forgot about the baseball ground etc. A friend of mine follows Rugby League and was gutted when St Helens had to leave Knowsley Road, but now everyone's going on about how superb their new stadium looks. So let's forget about the sentiment and let J W Henry build us a new house

08 Jul 2011 18:58:20
Ed if we sign downing/mata for the lw who do you think we will sign for the right wing? I have heard mentions of hazard, adam johnson, pablo hernandez etc but i don't think we will buy another squad player eg jarvis I think it will be a top draw player is we buy one {Ed009's Note - I am not sure there will be a right winger signed. Dalglish may well be happy with the combination of Henderson and Kuyt in that position. There is a chance of Johnson, not much for the other two.}

Adam will never fit into Jay's No.26 branded training gear.

08 Jul 2011 18:56:45
Ed people are talking about the galatasery friendly possibly being linked to turan. But if we were signing turan we would just announce it anyway wouldn't we? {Ed009's Note - perhaps the player would want to make a farewell appearance for the club he has played for so long. The fans there idolise him and it would be a wonderful gesture. I agree though that we shouldn't read too much into the whole situation.}

08 Jul 2011 18:56:35
HI all- any info on Ryad Boudebouz? no-one is talking about him recently, i think he would be a great addition. Also i dont know is it just me but i haven't been this excited about the coming season in about 10 years, i cant wait, i might even get sky sports in {Ed009's Note - I am afraid that there just isn't interest in the player at this time.}

Can't get the reply to post thing to work, but regards predictions:

Based on current transfer expectations - top two teams to beat over the season remain fairly obvious. I think we'll see bursts from the Gunners, Man City and maybe Spurs, but only think we'll see one of them, probably Arsenal, finish in the top 4. Mancini has to be a leading contender for early casualty, so if Man City act quickly enough and get in a decent manager then who knows. But Tevez would be a big miss for them. Of the also-rans, probably (dare I say it) our friends from the other side of the park - assuming Moyes stays and keeps a grip on his better players have the best chance of making it into Europe. Jol's Fulham could be interesting if gets the right players. Of the promoted teams, QPR has the money to stay up but they might need a new manager to do it, Swansea will struggle as will Norwich, but so will Wigan, Villa (based on Downing leaving and Young having left), Wolves and maybe Blackburn & WBA, so relegation will be a lottery. We saw this last season that if you the right changes quickly enough you can it around. Black horse for a relegation scrap - Sunderland.

I've seen that Adam will be given the number 26 shirt to wear this season, although in the pics where he is training for Liverpool, he is wearing kit with number 15 on.

If he is going to be given the number 26 jersey, does this mean Spearing is leaving or just going to be given a new number? What do you know about this Ed? {Ed029's Note - See previous posts, Spearing has a different number}

Central Midfield players to pick from for next year of Gerrard, Lucas, Meireles, Adam, Shelvey ain't too shabby...

08 Jul 2011 18:02:43
After all these no. changes the one that stands out for me is Maxi moving to no.11 is this a sign he is to stay. I'm not too exicted about this to be honest not becuase he's not a good player but he's 30 years old now and with his supposed high wages I expected him to move on Oh well... In Kenny we trust YNWA

08 Jul 2011 17:59:33
Henderson will wear the No.14 shirt while Jay Spearing has agreed to hand over his No.26 jersey to midfielder Adam.

Spearing will now wear the No.20 shirt while Maxi Rodriguez has switched shirts from No.17 to No.11.

I personally think you Ed's are useless, with the exception of accepting peoples posts. All you do is shoot people down in flames yet never seem to give an actual player of interest, so if you can say who we are not interested in why can you not say who we are interested in, now that Adam has gone through and Downing is public, you can't give us anything. Please reply. {Ed029's Note - Why do you want our opinions then if you think we are useless?}

First time post ( great site by the way ) Get Downing, do we really need to do much more in the transfer market barring getting rid of a few who are draining the wage bill, lets not forget the young lads who did a great job last season. Would love to know what others think :)

Hi Eds and Reds,

I was on the paddy power app on my phone and seen Suarez is 14/1 to be top scorer, well worth a punt ?
Andy Carroll is 22/1. I don't look at transfer betting, thats only a racket IMO, but a pre season punt , 14/1 ain't bad

As a bit of fun and banter, what's Eds/reds predictions for next season, champions, top 4, relagation and domestic cups? Only 5 weeks left Til kick off, let the predictions begin

Hi Eds and all Liverpool supporters. Looking for some advice. I am divorced with two sons. My ex has remarried a Manc Hes a bit of a bell end to say the least. Hes got 3 season tickets and takes my lads to matches regulary and even puts them in Manc scum shirts. It makes my bllod boil but there is nothing I can do about it. I am not a season ticket holder at Liverpool, been on the waiting list for ages. I have been able to get tickets for European matches in the past and have had some great nights. Once you get the first game ticket you then get priority for the next game. My problem now is I have never been able to get hold of 3 seats together for a league game just being fan card holders. Children are easily lead and I dont want them being Man U fans. I need to take them to league games this coming season with there being no European games. I would love them to be in the kop with me while we beat the spam 6-0. Has any one got any advise please? Cheers

I post every now and again when I have something interesting to throw in to the mix. A very close friend of mine works in sports marketing for one of the very big firms who handle THE big deals that are brokered in the UK and US. He tells me that there is very real dialogue taking place between LFC/FSG and Adidas over the naming rights to the proposed new stadium. The compromise being discussed is naming the new stadium THE ANFIELD ADIDAS ARENA. FSG are mindful of the loss of "Anfield" in the clubs marketing potential so see this as the ideal solution to the naming rights question. {Ed002's Note - This should PO the new shirt sponsors as well.}

Good afternoon Ed002 I hope you haven't been too busy today (selling those Kirby cleaners. I knew I'd work it out in the end) Do you think that we will bring in an Asian player this summer as was muted earlier in the year? I'm sure it is still high on the agenda, and if so would you hazard a guess as to what viable options there are.
Thanks

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - You could me about to slip out and make a couple of calls, but before I go: Possibly is the answer, and Park Chu-Young would have been my choice. I don't see a buy for the sake of being Asaian. Overall a less than evens chance I suspect.}

Forlan 0
Aguero 0

might be old or old fashioned or old school or perhaps an old soul, but can someone explain to me why a man who is the face of a multi-million dollar business group tweets? And even more troubling, why do people try to predict complex transactions based on such tweets?
To make this post legit, does any of the eds know whether Scott Dann is still injured and if there is still interest in bringing in another CB? With Kelly included, we have at least 6 in training at the moment. Are those the ones we will see all year?

Canadian Fan {Ed002's Note - Dann is meant to be clear of injury but I guess will have to work on his strength. For me, there was a mistake made over Sakho who could play LB and CB well. Too late now.}

Two midfielders signed, an area of the pitch already considered strong The defence is garbage and no signings Several players turned down the club to sign for other clubs, but of course not being in the champions league doesnt matter Still loads of bull on here abot Aguero, Mata, Hazard....if you cant get clichy, Marveaux etc.. you have no chance of these others.

The great Liverpool teams in the past were not always built with an array of star players (A lot of the players became stars due to the success Liverpool had). King Kenny is building a team again. He knows that to build a team it is important to purchase players who can gel together, and who share similar values of passion, hard-work, and team-work as he and the fans do. I think that Henderson and Adam will fit in perfectly (and so will Downing if he comes). Reina, Suarez, Gerrard, Agger, Miereles (if he stays) are world-class, and if King Kenny is able to get one more inspirational signing to add to these then Liverpool will be challenging once again

Hi ed. everyone is saying that we have to many midfielders. yeah we have alot and i think this is good, as for the last 5-10 years, LFC hasnt had enough depth in their squad, like the likes of the mancs and chelsea since abramovic took over. i think we need another decent striker defo, obviously wingers. what are your thoughts on a striker? i say we go for someone cheapish, but decent.

hey ed. just a simple doubt i would like you to clear for me. when a new player was signed, the club would say LFC have signed xyz for 5 years. but now all i can see is xyz has signed a "LONG TERM DEAL" with LFC. why this change ? thanks and great site.

I think Downing will end up being the replacement for Riera/Kewell that we have missed in the last few seasons.Ngog, Aquilani, Meireles, Maxi, Cole, Jovanovic, Poulsen, Konchesky, Insua, Jones and Soto are basically up for sale.Apart from the Downing signing, future signings will depend on sales.Shelvey, Pacheco and Ayala look to be going on loan.

Sad to see we will be leaving Anfield (tbc but looks a cert)..i only hope the new stadium keeps the fans in the stands as close to the pitch as possible....the trouble with a lot of "modern" stadia is that the stands are so far from the pitch that it detachs the fans from the game and wrecks the atmosphere....personally i'd like to see a four sided stadium with all the mod cons and seats for 65000-70000...the kop is an institution and should be a stand out on its own...image a kop with 17000 kopites singing ynwa....goosebumps

Just read an earlier post totally killing Adam and another prefering Bastos to Downing. Adam was only involved in over 20 goals last season, he's not kicked a ball for us yet and he chose us over other clubs. Just seems his name just isn't spicy enough for you. Maybe if we'd have bought someone like Bangera who is vastly overrated with not much if any creativity at all. He's a tramps smelly blanket's Lucas at best, never mind a poor mans. Re Bastos being able to play left back. He can play their, sort of and i'd put my last pound if ever required which i doubt, Downing would be able to play left back a lot better then him. But Bastos is from Brazil so it means he must be better then Downing. Fact, Lyon have 2 prices for a player. A realistic one and an inflated price that they quote/sell to EPL clubs. If their willing to let him go to an EPL for 12mil, shows that they would prob let him go for less to a club from a different league. And lastly to the poster who ripped Adam, wasn't trying to put words in your mouth over Bangera, just that it seems exotic names is the order of the day for some fans rather then footballing ability. Some one mentioned about being in talks with florentina,

If only we could offload aqualani to them and give them additional 5 m for vargas, solves two problems of wing back and winger,

With Cazrola on other wing
+ a LB, CB and hopefully Mata.

We would be set

Vargas+ Cazrola = Aqualani +25M
LB = 8 - 10 M
CB = 6 - 8 M
Mata = Get Cash of Merelies sale and 5-7 M

Pray and make this happen.

08 Jul 2011 13:34:50
1. Gerrard
2. Lucas
3. Adam
4. Henderson
5. Meireles
6. Spearing
7. Shelvey

Do you think this is the pecking order for the midfield?

08 Jul 2011 13:34:29
obviously our main 'targets' at the moment are stewart downing and/or juan mata but there are other options if we dont get them. players like matt jarvis, adam johnson and even jesus navas are all quality wingers and nobody seems to be bidding for them. they are all cheaper than downing and mata and in my opinion villa are being idiots and mata would rather stay in spain or probs go to arsenal so i think any of these 3 would be quality signings

Dos santos and barerra would be insane Problem was that they played with crappy players who couldn't read their flair game.
Dos santos spent his youth days with ronaldinho not with huddlestone.
Put them with suarez and watch the magic unfold.

Liverpool FC: Reds to return to Istanbul for friendly with Galatasaray
Liverpool Echo
Jul 8 2011
1ShareComment (1)Recommend LIVERPOOL FC will return to Istanbul - the scene of their greatest ever triumph.

The Reds travel to Istanbul on July 28 for a pre-season friendly with Turkish giants Galatasaray.

The Ataturk Stadium played host to Liverpool's sensational 2005 Champions League final comeback against AC Milan and though Kenny Dalglish's side will face 'Gala' at the new Turk Telekom Arena, a return to the country's largest city will still stir the emotions amongst players and fans alike.

Liverpool could face their former striker and 2005 Champions League winner Milan Baros, who now plays his football for Galatasaray, and are sure for a noisy reception.

The Arena was recently named as the loudest stadium in the world with a decibel reading of 131.76 recorded during a match with Fenerbahce in March.

Galatasaray finished eighth in the Turkish Super Lig last season and the last time the side's met was in the 2006/07 Champions League group stages when both matches finished 3-2 to the home team.

Kick-off time on Thursday, July 28, is 7pm (UK time) and ticket information for the game will be released shortly

From the liverpool Echo - we have lined up friendlies with Valencia (Mata) and Galatasaray (Turan)....what do you think ed?

Hello everyone

I am very relieved with the following comments from Damien Comolli.

"We're lucky we've got two of our priorities. That's good, and I'm sure there'll still be a lot of movement, especially going out but also, hopefully, a few more coming in."

Come on Damien, get rid of the players who are having a holiday at Anfield and do it quickly so we can sign 2 or 3 more worthy players

{Ed002's Note - The two clubs that have been referred to as interested in Mata at the moment are Arsenal and Spurs. Liverpool have enquired previously so there has been intent shown. There is nothing to indicate that bids have been placed but things may change quickly. Valencia are looking for about 26M euros it seems.}

_____________

Point taken sir: I remember reading about the wages cap Arsenal and spurs have and wondered if this might have an effect on matas decision (if an actual cash offer was made) and of course the tax situation on a players wages...........Jim22

Skysports.com understands Blackpool are eyeing moves for Liverpool duo Tom Ince and Gerardo Bruna.

Does that mean they were part of the deal, can't remember if either are worth keeping?

Seems the number 3 shirt on the site has disappeared or rather the Konchesky version. So surely Cissohko on his way, and Konchesky and his mum have gone.

Liverpool will sign Downing by Wednesday next week 100% Villa will sign Nzogbia for 9 million to replace him ive been told this by the same person who told me about Henderson and clichy even though he went to city we matched city with wages it was just champions league that swayed his choice. Also if villa don't accept the next bid around 17.5 million then he will hand in a transfer request and push through a move he will be in asia on tour trust me {Ed027's Note -

I imagine that with all these NOTW allegations flying around the next load to come out will be football agents being tapped doing all the deals... Look at how many football stories break through them Just a thought

There is no way Aly Cissokho would pass a medical - do the research

I have a question for football fans who know about the Financial Fair Play Rules- with the new fair play rules coming into play over the next few seasons the understanding i have is that the end objective is to make teams not spend more that they earn in revenue.

With this is mind what would stop the rich owners like at Citeh from say paying Etihad Airways a lump sum for say advertising or other services and then Etihad Airways paying Citeh a lump sum for sponsorship. Therefore increasing their revenues and allowing them to spend more?

I know this is simplistic but just wondered if anyone knew about the rules and if they could prevent this type of loop-hole.

NS {Ed002's Note - Such matters are dealt with in them already.}

Great work ed's not a rumour just a view on all the signings so far by kd, he has gone for nearly all ex captains or leaders of their ex teams suarez carroll adam , henderson potential captain , downing boro captain. This is a clear attempt to go and not get bullied at places like stoke etc and pick up the vital points needed to make a title push, and wit all these leaders on the pitch together it will take the burden of steve n cara and we should be more than a match for anyone , any thoughts eds? Great site

Liverpool's Asia Tour Vital to Standard Chartered Sponsorship
By Tariq Panja - Jul 8, 2011 9:54 AM GMT

1More Print Email
Standard Chartered Plc (STAN), the international bank that sponsors 18-time English soccer champion Liverpool, says the team's tour of Asia next week is one of the reasons it agreed to pay out a record 81.5 million pounds ($29.6).
The U.K.-based lender, which gets more than three-quarters of its profit from Asia, started a four-year contract with the Reds on July 1 last year. The club flies out in two days to start a tour that will include exhibition matches in China and Malaysia as well as an open training session in Singapore.
"It's a pretty important part of why we signed the deal in the first place, " Gavin Laws, the bank executive who approved the accord, said in an interview. "We want to help bring Liverpool to our clients and executive clients in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. This tour is an important part of the visibility we want to give our customers."
Standard Chartered is trying to increase its global reach after thriving during the global economic crisis that hurt most of its competitors. It has 1, 700 branches and offices worldwide, including 900 in Asia. In January the lender opened a 65,000 square-foot trading floor in Singapore, which it says is the biggest in Asia.
Reds captain Steven Gerrard will miss the tour. He'll remain in the U.K. to work on his fitness after undergoing an operation on his groin in April.
"We would have loved to have him there, " said Laws, the bank's group head of corporate affairs. "It isn't going to happen. We understand the priority is to get Steven fit for the Premier League season and if staying at home is the price we pay that's fine."
'Worst Start'
Liverpool is the bank's first team sponsorship. The initial year of the agreement included the sale of the team to the Boston Red Sox owner Fenway Sports Group following a legal struggle, the club suffering its worst start to a season in more than half a century, the sale of its striker Fernando Torres and the return of Kenny Dalglish, the coach that took Liverpool to its last championship in 1990.
"They finished the season really strongly, they started it really poorly and there was plenty of visibility about the club all through the season, " said Laws, who described the team as one of the top four or five in the world. "Who knows how long any club can go without winning something before they start to lose their fanbase? But you know Liverpool is engrained in many people's lives throughout the world."
Liverpool, whose main shirt color is red, yesterday said sales of its third jersey were a record for a change uniform. The white and blue outfit was launched earlier this year amid controversy as some fans complained its local rival Everton plays in blue, and others said it was imposed on the team by Standard Chartered because of similarities to the bank's insignia.
'Massive Influence'
Laws said his company had no involvement in the design of the shirt produced by Adidas AG. He's faced earlier criticism after being reported as saying the bank would like the team to sign some Asian players.
"We seem to be branded as having massive influence on player selection, kit selection, whatever, " he said. "We have a lot of input on areas of commercial work but we have no say whatsoever in what the kit looks like, what the colors of the kit are and we have no say in player selection. At the end of the day we clearly understand that we're a sponsor and they're a football club."
Tickets for the game in Malaysia were sold in the bank's branches there. Talks to use the infrastructure as a shop window to sell Liverpool merchandise haven't progressed beyond early discussions.
Naming Rights
Standard Chartered is also interested in becoming a naming rights partner if Liverpool decides to build a new stadium. Planning rights to develop a site in Stanley Park, close to the club's current Anfield stadium, were recently extended until September. Fenway Sports Group is getting closer to a final decision.
"There's a whole lot of things got to happen before that becomes a sensible conversation and the club know that we're interested in being involved in that conversation, " said Laws.

ed what do u think about this do you think the new ground could be sponsored by standard chartered. {Ed002's Note - It is of no real interest at all. The only point of note is the last paragraph and it is certainly not going to be a shock to anyone. The rest of it is nothing to do with football at all.}

Bojan Krkic said: People have been discussing my future for days. At the moment I still can t say anything, but we re certainly very close to the right moment. I was nine when I first dreamt of playing for Barcelona and it is an objective that I will have forever. However, this is not only dependant on me and there are other marvellous roads to go down, roads full of dreams.

Sounds to me like a famous anthem which is linked to the reds has a line in "at the end of the road is gold sky"
Just conincidence more then likely but hey who knows. Ed?

I am just happy the club is stable (no looming Bankruptcy) and we have a team of people putting together a strategy that should take the club forward. Next season should be only about the football and hopefully that will be a winning version.

Me I am just happy we are trying to put together a team that looks to be better than the sum of its parts. Which is what a team should always be.

The purchases maybe not what the dreamers on this site want but that is not how you win things. Look at the S**m up the East lancs Road and tell me how many of that team would be names you would have at the top of your list of purchases. Not many. Whiskey Nose, for all his critics, has built a team that is better than the sum of its parts due to having imparted a winning never say die mentality.

It is what KK is trying to do. It was what Shankley did, Paisley did, Fagan did and Dalglish did the first time. We have already some very good players and we are looking to improve on what we already have. It is the Liverpool way of 70's and 80's of always trying to improve on what you already have.

With Arsenal imploding and Spurs stagnating getting back into the champion's league is a real possibility. We just need to get out the gate fast and only way to do that is with players that know the league and have been productive in the league. (This is what Comolli looks over in his statistics when selecting players.) Hence the reason we have bought Adam, Henderson and are looking at Downing and enrique. They are good players and better than what we have already got and they are TEAM players.

Having Players like Mata at the moment is a luxury because he will need time to adjust and we do not have the time to do that, or we may have to wait for another year before returing to the Champion's League. Suarez had the second half of last season to adjust so he will be able to start quickly (if he is not too tired from the Copa america - Just hope Uruguay get knocked out quickly).

Once we are back in the champion's league then we can purchase the Neymars, Messis, etc. that everybody is demanding. But the only concern for me is what alll the miserable moaning fans will do to fill their day up between Loose Woman and Hollyoaks. Who will they be telling KK to buy because they have seen him or her on Youtube? (This paragraph is a joke - so no need to let your heads explode and send in your patronizinfg responses).

Great job Eds. I am glad that you were proved right on the Adam medical and you have silenced the your critics for a while.

Orrin

"Liverpool are ready to risk fan anger by quitting Anfield and building a new stadium rather than renovating their iconic ground. They will sell naming rights to their new home".
What a load of dross as much as we have fantastic memories of Anfield - St Etienne, Barca, Real Madrid, BMG, Stuffing Mancs, Stuffing Blue Sh#te, etc, etc, etc if its time to move on and stay at the top table of European Football then its time to move on. Whether it s a new ground or a massive revamp we need 60,000 capacity min. Who cares what a commentator on Sky calls the stadium as we sail through the 2nd leg of a CL Semi Final .

Been thinking about the new stadium for a wile and what we could call it.. With apple being one of the most recognised names in the world and only ever going to get bigger why not try and get sponsorship and naming rights of them for a lot more than man city's proposed 150 (blow them out of the water) and surely this could make Liverpool one of the biggest global brands of all time with supporters coming from all over the world to witness something that no other football franchise has ever dreamed of starting and with technology only ever going to be on the up I could never see this failing.. And with a name like Ianfield you would be keeping our legendary name but at the same time putting us miles ahead of every other team in terms of sheer class.. Would certainly help when signing players and give our beloved football team the perfect image it deserves

08 Jul 2011 11:20:12 We should save millions and go for Michel Bastos of Lyon instead of Downing. The boy is a class act and can deliver down the left. Juve may can deliver down the left. Juve may be a sticking point but I am sure we could persuade him. be a sticking point but I am sure we be a sticking point but I am sure we could persuade him God's blessings on the 96 {Ed010's Note - He is older than Downing}---------
He is only a year older but vastly more experienced and a better player in my opinion. He would not be cheaper though I expect lyon would charge around 20m for him given their aggressive over pricing to english clubs.

If we are paying that price anyway I would make bastos the better option, he has champions league and world cup experience. Downing has little to none, especially for a 27 year old costing 20m

the omens look positive for berrera. Kids got promise, plus the big factor is that he rarely featured for West Ham. I recall Masch and to a certain extent Tevez being in a similar position and they did great guns after leaving the Hammers

well as weve gathered its silly season again, everybody seems to have jumped on the bandwagon of lfc buying mata cissoko bastos saurez bojan and more. however it would seem kk and dc are not and want to firstly pursue proven epl players before anything else, even if it means missing out on some if not all the names mentioned. i agree that the foreign players would be good signings but lets give kk credit if he sees downing and enrique as the better signings then lets get behind him and support him in what hes does, and also the players he signs. jh has stated that it may also be in the best interest that lfc move over to stanley park, yes we have been at anfield for a considerably long time and some fans are not liking the idea they would like to see anfield redeveloped, (however this may not be possible). we didnt start off playing at anfield and so as times change and money is the backbone for survival if we have to move to bigger premises then greet it with open arms because as i see it whatever jh sees as best for lfc then i for one am behind him 110%. we have missed out on so much for so long the future is jh the future is lfc.

BREAKING NEWS: Robbie Fowler will re-sign with Liverpool, after hearing they've just bought a big fat pile of Charlie.

08 Jul 2011 11:59:37
Im happy with liverpools transfer dealings so far, i think Henderson and Adam will improve our sqaud and midfield. I feel that we should now get a CB in Dann, young and good prospect. Left sided player in either Downing, Johnson or Mata, preferable the later. Left back i am totally unsure of and dont feel that there is many great ones on the market but i always find the germans make good defensive players. I do feel we need some cover up front and would love to see Sturridge flourish under Clarky and Kenny.

i think we should settle dowm foe juan mata on the left hand side.and mithcel bastos.thats all we need right now.while konchesky, joe cole, aurelio, maxi, aquilani, kyrgiakos, and spearing should be sold and loaned respectively.

Folk would do well to take these Cissokho rumours with a pinch of salt.
There's nothing to indicate that talks which will likely culminate in a deal being agree have taken place.

This is nothing more the media putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 77.
We've had a passing interest in the player, nothing more.

As much I love and want the player here, the likelihood is that Cissokho won't leave Lyon this summer, certainly NOT for the derisory 9m euros bandied about.

I'm sure the eds, particularly Ed002 with his French connections, would corroborate what I'm saying.
Enrique remains not only the prefered target, but the most likely one.

Ed002, I dont know if yer took it as one, but it was a complement when i said you were Geoff Boycott, a straight talkin yorkshire man who doesn't suffer fools gladly. Do you think that if we get Downing that will end our interest in Mata? Or i dont want you to get bombarded, but do you think their's a chance of both? Thanks, all the eds all do a great job unreal how addictive this site is it is. Chopper Read {Ed010's Note - Thanks, I'll be sure to let Ed002 know ;)}

I'm looking forward to the sqaud numbers this season. It'll be up around the 600 mark if any of the rumours had any merit to them. Stewart Downing is Liverpool's next target. Once that deal is done or not done then attention wil hopefully turn to Mata or Turan. KK and DC don't have unlimited cash supplies so a bit of common sense needs to be exercised.

08 Jul 2011 11:11:26
Just a quick question eds Have we renewed ouyr interest in Matt Jarvis? I personally think he would be a great player for us, Cheap, Quick, Both Footed and can Cross a ball: What you Think? {Ed010's Note - To my knowledge, no. But I'll happily stand corrected if anyone knows better, hope this helps}

08 Jul 2011 11:05:59
i love this site i think liverpool will sign enrique , downing , and doni i don't think we will get mata maybe adam johnston

08 Jul 2011 10:54:03
I believe Downing will sign by Sunday.

I would love us to sign Mata or Adam Johnson but not sure either of these will happen.

We need another Left Back unless we are going to keep Insua.

Finally, we need another Striker, not sure who but someone who can fill in if Carroll/Suarez gets injured or a player who can come off the bench and change a game.

I believe KK will give more youngsters a chance in the first team such as Flanno, Robinson, Wisdom, Coady, Sterling and Morgan.- I would love to see them play a few games this season.

08 Jul 2011 10:51:39
i posted a comment about matt jarvis earlier and i think we should also try for adam johnson as jarvis and johnson both fit into fsg's criteria of young british players and both can play on either wing. if i was lfc manager i would definitely put an offer in for them

08 Jul 2011 10:51:17
Can i ask why it is that anytime someone mentions twitter as a source the Eds on here knock it and mock it?
Obv there are a lot of rumours everywhere, inc here that are absolute rubbish but there are some very good sources on twitter, journalists, players, coaches, physio's etc. It seems a little bit churlish to just laugh them off as not being credible.
Theyve been more accurate than Macca so far and yet Macca has their own page on here
Great site, I really enjoy reading it as a source for rumours.

Everyone talking about who will play on the right wing need to remember where Henderson played at the start of last season for Sunderland. Yes that's right on the right wing and he played well.

Barrerra was rated better than javier hernandez. He's more electric in the mould of a suarez. Just needs to have solid players around him who can read his game...

08 Jul 2011 10:41:01
If the earlier post about a suarez- tevez strike force does come true the ol lady is not gonna be happy as she's still moping about after pretty boy left. Well maybe their reflection will look better when the go to kiss the barclays cup next yr ps ed what are the chances of us bringing a full time dentist to melwood? Lol I'm def a lfc supporter so be a sport n don't crucify me for this. YNWA azkop {Ed009's Note - Tevez is unlikely to move here. It would be a stupid move from the club as he would leave after 2 years having unsettled the entire dressing room, and City quite simply wouldn't sell to us.}

08 Jul 2011 10:41:01
according to some of the papers
lfc have decided to move ground and selling the rights for the new stadium. i personally would rather stay at anfield like the rest of us fans. but we do need at least 70.000 seater stadium with option to upgrade it. the selling rights i think is a good idea though. because it wont affect our transfere budget plus it may even give us a better transfere budget

08 Jul 2011 10:35:09
Ed, would u expect Doni to sign today?
{Ed010's Note - If not today then he should do so very soon, unless Atletico hijack the deal}

08 Jul 2011 10:37:46
So Balazs Dzsudzsak har joined Anchzi.
Great move for the lad.
I'm sure he's on a very generous package.
Good on Anchzi.

I've always admired the way Russians look after their players.
I'd be made up to see more "high profile" players giving some serious consideration to plying their trades in the Russian league.

It surprises me that the likes Kun Aguero, Wesley Sneijder haven't looked to that league.
They'll be more than generously be rewarded.

Anyway, what's the big deal with this thing of John Henry teasing fans with Mata?
Do people honestly believe that a discreet man as our principal owner would go around disclosing the club's transfer matters on some tinpot networking or social site whatever it is?

The man was probably just joining in in the fun. Nothing more.
Folk should accept that Dalglish&Comolli's NUMBER one target for the left is Downing, who'll likely complete his move to us by Monday.

There won't be no Mata. And, as folk are often all too eager to tell me, put that in your pipe and smoke.
If Mata does make the move to England, expect it to be Arsenal, cause they ARE interested in him, seriously interested; they can afford him and he'd be keen on them.

So let's all forget Mata and prepare to set off our fireworks for when the third big result of "comprehensive research">>"data">>"analysis" Stewart Downing descends upon these fascist shores.

08 Jul 2011 10:22:39
iam of the opinion that the money is there for both downing and mata i feel the failed bids for young and jones prove this, it could also be sweetened by our many surplus players we have, i think this would complete our top end of the pitch dealings and would give us fantastic option up front - we"ll be coming down the road red men

cheers kopman

To***s regrets leaving and would love a return to Anfield
I'm sorry Fernando but you had your chance and did the dirty on us, don't want you anywhere near us again {Ed009's Note - I'd welcome him back to us for the right price, if he tried to build bridges. But that's just my opinion.}

08 Jul 2011 10:14:14
I think this downing saga is dragging on abit... If we wanted him surely we would of offered 1-2m more than our previous offer. We have already spent ALOT and we still need a LB and CB. Personally I can see someone like N'zogbia and Jos Enrique coming, prem proven and wont break the bank.

Liverpool have added another pre-season friendly to their schedule.

The Reds will play Galatasary at the Turk Telekom Arena in Istanbul on Thursday, July 28th, kick off 9pm (7pm UK time).
Does this mean that turan will be coming to LFC?? {Ed010's Note - Perhaps?}

Would not be surprised to see Jarvis in a red shirt English young full of pace and if kenny works on his crossing could be a bargain. To the guy saying addidas are going to be our naming rights partner.

1) £150m would match not supass man city deal.
2) why would they name the ground when they won't even be making our kit next season?
3) Due to global recession construction costs have dropped by approx 15%. So why would the cost be the same as 2 years ago?

I know it was a fair while ago now, but i am starting to wish we held on to Mikel San Jose, although he was a fairly slowish starter he is really coming of age now and has had a very good year or so in Bilbao. Hopefully Daniel Ayala can do the same in liverpool, and in fact hopefully ALL our young players are given the time they need, but in particular, i hope we show more patience with central defenders as they do take a bit longer to develop due to the ridiculous amount of responsibility in the position.

What I haven't seen too much of on here is people congratulating Damien Comolli on a fine piece of negotiation with Blackpool over Charlie Adam. Even though Oyston was playing his usual silly games Comolli didnt flinch, he stuck to FSG's tactic of paying and offering only what they value for a player, and not a penny more. Part of their strategy is to occasionally pay over the odds, but when there is such youth and potential, as with Carroll and Henderson thats fine, but they wont allow that to happen with every transfer. It was very important they set down a marker with the Adam transfer to let people know they were not going to be throwing silly money around with every signing, which is also why walking away from the Wickam deal was a strong and bold decision. If we spent the £12m asked for both Adam and Wickam then every club would jack the prices up on us even more. Now they know there's no point playing those games because we'll be strong enough to walk away. That's true strength.

It would be great to come on here and not have to read the panic fuelled drivel people spout, disgusted that we havent already got Turan, Aguero, Honda and Lavezzi already tied up. Yes, United may have spent £50m on three players, including two of our targets, but they are the champions and have won four of the last five premier leagues, and have been in three of the last four champions league finals, winning one. DC and KK cant force people to sign, at the end of the day some players will naturally feel United are a more attractive proposition. Good luck to them. However we are Liverpool and we should have faith that if Kenny and Steve Clarke can muster the sort of performances they did from the demotivated squad Hodgson left, how much more do you think he'll get out of the likes of Adam and Henderson, and even Carroll after a proper pre-season. These guys have never trained or played with the likes of Suarez or Gerrard, they've never experienced the sort of set up at Melwood, they've never had the experience, wisdom and motivation that they'll get from KK. They will all blossom next season. Just as unfancied Oxford Utd players like Ray Houghton and John Aldridge became stars at Anfield under KK. Just like KK molded Stuart Ripley, Chris Sutton, Tim Sherwood and more at Blackburn into a title winning team, he'll do it again here.

We may not end up with any huge star names this summer, but rest assured what DC and KK will deliver for us by the end of this transfer window (which still has over seven long weeks to go people) is a squad which is not only better balanced, more talented, deeper, and with more youth than we started last year, but we'll have a team ethic stronger than anyone else, a strength that will run right through out the squad so that no matter what 11 goes out it will have synergy, be more than the sum of its parts, and will feature players who DO want to play for the shirt.

Its not over yet, DC has already stated more players will be coming. But please have patience. Let them get rid of some of the deadwood, and when they do expect maybe Dann at CB, Enrique at LB (Newcastle will calm down on price), and if we dont get Downing then there will probably be a surprise on the wing. But remember who ever we sign, trust DC and KK to get what LIVERPOOL NEED, rather than who YOU WANT.

Help I wan't to get rid of Sky because they are part owned by scummy company but want to watch Premiership games.

I suppose moving to Virgin and ordering Sky sports package would not be solution.

Does anybody know how this can be done? I know it cn e done because I watch games in pub saturday afternoon.

I hope BBC get football package as a consequence of News of world scandal. Fingers crossed

I think that Adam will play the Jan Molby/Xabi Alonso role with Gerrard attacking from either the centre or right. I'd pick Adam over Lucas isn't a goal threat & doesn't have the passing range that Adam has, although I rate Lucas highly.

Ed009's Note - he's a fantastic player who Kenny was previously interested in and suggested as a signing to Rafa. Oddly he has not followed up that interest in the slightest, and the player long looked nailed on to sign Atletico. That deal has dragged on and now other teams are in the mix - such as Chelsea who were offered the player in exchange for Drogba. I suppose Kenny could have decided his questionable injury record or lack of physical stature could count against him in the Premier League.}

Why Are Everton Struggling to pay the wage bills. Why will everton in the end be asset Stripped with the likes of Leighton Baines going to Arsenal or Manchester City,

As we see a culture of haves and have nots. Are wages finally going to kill the premiership.

Why are everton in such poor financial state. I remember them selling Joleon Lescott for 24m, to Manchester City 2009 and get Jermaine Beckford in on free Transfer from Leeds.

So where has all the money gone? are people like Tim Cahill, Baines, Artea bleeding the club dry

Premier League clubs' spending on wages has increased to more than £1.4bn in recent year.more than two thirds of their total revenue.

The salary bill among the 20 sides hit an all-time high, at 68% of their collective income of just over £2bn.

While Manchester United's £132m wage bill represented 46% of the club's revenue, moneybags Manchester City's £133m accounted for 107%.of club revenues. Chelsea continued to top the league for spending on salaries, at £174m. These are results of the Deloitte Annual Review of Football Finance

Premiership Footballer wages continue to spiral out of control as revenues largley stagnating in the premiership. I know that im not likely to be going to see football anytime soon as prices continue to rise and my mortage payments increase.

The relentless growth in wages in particular has resulted in operating margins in the top division reducing from 16% to 4% over the lifetime of the Premier League.

4 percent operating margin. Premier League clubs spent on average almost £2 in every £3 they earned on wages. This is cancer that is going to kill football.

Everton's wage bill increased 11% to £54.3m, which moved the club from 12th highest payers to 8th in premiership. A small club like everton playing huge wages. With falling Revenues at everton and player wage demands increasing. Something has to give very soon.

I know in american, they use a American football college draft picks to even out teams over the league. But with the top 4 in every country getting access to riches that the rest of us can only dream of. How can a club like Everton ever expect to changeling for CL football

Something has to change to stop money clubs from asset stripping the poorer clubs. Wages need to be capped across football by Fifa.

I cant see a player needing more than £1'000'000 a year in wages. If all teams across europe paid starting squad 0f 25 peoples a £1000000. we would get back to what football is really about.

wages would be capped. Clubs would be able to operate regardless of size.

These footballers have no other skills. They can't turn around and become brain surgeons in the hope to earn more money. These people hit the lottery by becoming footballers.

Many of them live a excessive lifestyle while being reserve team players.

Come on Liverpool, stop messing around and sign Arda Turan before we loss him to a main rival and regret it. This lad is special and he loves our club. What more do you want. On a more serious note, if I win the Euro millions tonight I will buy him for you myself. I would also buy you Mata, Banega and Bastos too. All these players would cost me less than 70mil and would win us the league without a doubt. You can pay me back when you get rid of the dead wood.

Not such a rumour but comment to anyone posting about DC signing anyone... KK is in charge of all commings and goings at Anfield

Kenny is building a team that can compete for the Premiership and all other domestic competitions, we do not require a large squad this season which is why the emphasis is being placed upon the removal of the fringe players who do not fit into KK's vision for the team.... Yes we want to be a succesful as we can as soon as we can but patiently building now and finding the right personnel means that success can be sustained..

We came so close in 08/09 which was in retrospect a massive overacheivement with the squad....

Now KK is attempting to build a strong robust squad for the upcomming season and beyond.

KK will strive for consistency in performance, moving away from the previous peak and trough results beating the top teams and then losing to the newly promoted teams for example.

DC is going out and shorlisting targets profiling the player his attributes, ability, and potential, KK will make a dicision based upon his suitability and whether he actualy wants this player...

KK is the man who will lead us to glory and he has his fellow countryman firmly in his sights

This ISN'T Anfield: Liverpool ready to abandon iconic stadium

Liverpool are ready to quit Anfield for a new stadium.

But to finance the move from their historic home they will have to sell the naming rights to the ground.

The club's American owners are under pressure to make a decision and quickly, with planning rights extended only until September.

Liverpool's owners have considered the future of the famous old ground since they took control eight months ago, and it was first thought they were leaning towards a redevelopment of Anfield, a stadium that was initially erected in 1892.

From the start, they made clear their idea that boosting Liverpool's gate receipts through an increased capacity is central to their plans to develop the club, and return it to previous heights.

In recent weeks though, the Americans have come to realise that a significantly increased capacity is more easily realised by building a new stadium on nearby Stanley Park, despite the massive associated costs.

Previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett had promised to build a hi-tech new stadium, but when costs soared through they £400million barrier they were simply unable to keep faith with that commitment.

The prohibitive cost is also a formidable barrier for new owners Fenway Sports - especially given the short-term planning deadline.

Liverpool City Council this week extended their agreements allowing a new structure to be built on Stanley Park, but only until September, and that has added increased tension to the search for funding.

The club may well upset many fans with the switch to a new ground after more than 100 years of tradition at Anfield.

And they will alarm even more by the need to sell the name of the stadium in return for the sort of revenue that will allow them to meet construction costs.

But that seems the only way forward, as extensive analysis has disclosed the impracticality of re-developing Anfield.

As early as March of this year, Chief Executive Ian Ayre had admitted that while they would never rebrand the current Anfield ground, a new stadium would require the sale of naming rights.

And in the light of news yesterday of Manchester City's deal with Etihad , the government backed Abu Dahbi airline, Liverpool know they need a similar deal to finance the stadium.

Recently, Billy Hogan, who is the managing director of the Fenway group's commercial arm, insisted that the club would command an unprecedented figure if they sold naming rights for a new stadium.

"We see Liverpool as a truly global proposition from a marketing standpoint and a naming rights partnership with Liverpool Football Club is really unlike any other thing there is out there, " he said.

"It's something we've seen some interest in and we'll continue to have those conversations."

Hogan explained that the final decision on whether to develop Anfield or build a new ground would "rest on which opportunity allows us to keep generating revenue to compete with the rest of our competition in the Premier League", but now it seems the new build is the most viable alternative.

The deadline imposed by the planning authorities, though, means that the club faces yet another tense deadline, as the search for funds continues.

Planning consents ran only until June 19, but have now been allowed to stand until the September deadline, with Liverpool needing a final decision before then.

Clearly, Hogan's comments suggest talks with interested parties are well underway, but they will require a deal massively beyond the previous highest deal for a football club, struck by Arsenal for the Emirates Stadium back in 2004, when they raised £100million from the Gulf airline.

City though, will smash that record when they formally announce their agreement with Etihad, their current shirt sponsors.

They are thought to have struck a deal that will bring them £150million over the next 10 years, which will go some way to addressing their massive budget deficit, which threatens their future under UEFA's new financial fair play rules.

Liverpool would require similar, but that would still be less than the current world record for a sports franchise, a £245m, 20-year deal agreed between Citigroup and Major League Baseball's New York Mets, whose new stadium is called Citifield.

For me who often struggles to get a ticket to Anfield its about time we moved onto a new stadium that can complete with the best in the world. YES Anfield is an iconic stadium but WE NEED to move on

After having read JWH's tweets i feel...good...
I know he's a CEO still learning about English & European football, but any owner who can take tweets and reply to fans is fine by me. I think it was classy of him and he has shown he has a great sense of humor.

Now as far as him replying to Mata speculation. haha well he became a speculator along with the others... he even suggested we march on Valencia and capture him :D don't read much into it. He probably knows who Mata is, or he googled for the details himself...

I think he isn't involved except to sign the cheques for transfers, after KK and DC make their case to him for each individual prospect

I hope we sign Mata, but i'd rather we tried for Pastore and push Aqua through in the deal if we are selling Mereles

I hope comolli & KD know what they are doing, because if rumours are to be believed.

Out- Meireles & Aquilani
In- Henderson & Adam

I know we may add a winger, but I'm not liking the looks of that swap. Not an upgrade in my opinion. Hopefully KD will start bidding for some real talent or else we will struggle to reach top 4. Especially with the rumours swirling of Arsenal actually spending some quid & the targets Man U & Chelsea & Man City are targeting.

Kopite Tee {Ed002's Note - Nobody will pay to just call it the New Anfield. If it goes that route, it will be as a new ground the Standard Chartered Arena or whatever, and if (and I don't think it will happen) it were a redeveloped Anfield, I would expect the word "Anfield" to remain somewhere. The one thing I can say about FSG is that they will be respectful of such matters - they will know it would be a major deal. Think laterally and perhaps they will keep the Anfield name and work that as a brand - just a thought.}

I didn't mean just new anfield as the name, i was suggesting along the lines of "Standard Chartered's new anfield" that way the older generation of fans or young respectable fans like myself won't be to upset about the loss of anfield.

08 Jul 2011 00:51:16
Liverpool are not in Europe, So why do they need such a big squad of players? Expect them to get knocked out of carling Cup

Don't people need to leave before we get more players in:

* 1. Jones
* 3. Konchesky
* 4. Meireles
* 5. Agger
* 6. Aurelio
* 8. Gerrard
* 10. J Cole
* 14. Jovanovic
* 16. Kyrgiakos
* 17. Maxi
* 22. D Wilson
* 23. Carragher
* 24. Ngog
* 25. Reina
* 26. Spearing
* 28. Poulsen
* 33. Shelvey
* 45. Ince
* - Aquilani
* - Degen
* - El Zhar
* - Insua

At the moment we prob have too many players.

08 Jul 2011 00:46:13
just a thought guys, i think the downing deal should and will happen by the weekend, he is a quality player with proven prem experience but what if he is injured, do we shuffle the squad around like last season and play people outa posistion or do we make sure we have a quality replacement in that posistion like juan mata, i know it may not happen but kk and dc need to make sure we have strength in depth or we wont be able to compete with the big spenders, teams comin to anfield last season didnt have the fear factor they used to but with more quality signings in the summer months they gonna be cackin thier pants comin to the home of the reds who next season will be a force once again, ynwa

just read on lfc website that kk hopes to bring in atleast 3 more players. im not sure how many players i assumed we would bring in to be honest.. but i feel that we still need a LB, a CB and two wingers? the interest in connor wickham suggests there may alo be interest in bringin in a young striker. whats your view ed? do u think we need two wingers? because the same article suggests were only wanting one winger? cheers mate

No one saw this coming Fro BBC...

Liverpool are ready to risk fan anger by quitting Anfield and building a new stadium rather than renovating the iconic ground - and selling naming rights to their new home. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool will be Surrey's only professional football team though - so not all bad news.}

Not a rumour as such so sorry fellas.

I've not posted in a while, 3 young kids keep me very busy but this site has been my homepage for 18 months and love it to bits.

Ed09, I love your optimism pal. It's a nice change from the sarcastic, 'glass is half empty' Ed02 (love you really).

Hat's off to Macca, delighted you got your own page mate (p*ss pot tired of hitting CTRL-F to see your views) and always wait to see what you have to say.
