Just a fun thought. With the new of Jamie Carragher retiring at the end of the season, I thought i'd do some crude calculations and share them with all.

Jamie Carragher has made over 700 appearances for Liverpool Football Club 700 games x 90 mins is about 63,000 minutes. Now obviously Carragher hasn't finished all the games he started, so at a conservative estimate i'm going to say Carragher has easily surpassed 55,000 minutes of competitive playing time for Liverpool Football Club. Which is 3, 300,000 seconds. Repeat ''at a conservative estimate. '' Again it's just for fun, but it goes to show you don't always need to spend millions to get genuine quality.

BCDI.

If reina does leave, who would everyone like as a replacement?.

Kevin trapp

Red Rout

Liverpool scouts should go to germany. they have so many good keepers its unreal

Unrealistically- Joe Hart
Realistically- Bernd Leno
Who I think we'll get- Vorm

Ter Stegen would be perfect but there are a lot of good keepers too :
Rene Adler
Robert Zieler
Ochoe
Bernd Leno
Akinfeev
Sven Ulreich
Michel Vorm
Begovic
Mignolet
Kevin Trapp
Krul

el capitano

Angelina Jolie :)
Eam

Nobody.
Pepe is the best

Why not bring Gulacsi through, no one know's how good he can be if you don't try him in the first team. I would of prefered Gulacsi to off played in all of the Europa group stages and League cup.
Or what about the former Liverpool youngster Mihaylov

Quick question for ed001 if your about, with Carra's announcement yesterday and the news today that Kelly has signed a new deal, do you think a fit Martin Kelly is capable of stepping in and making a claim for a spot in the centre, with it looking likely to be a bit of a shake up in the defence this summer places will be up for grabs, he's not that young any more so maybe it's time for him!

Gman82 {Ed001's Note - yes, I think he has all the requirements, ability wise, to be an excellent centre half, especially in the system we use.}

08 Feb 2013 22:39:31
Not yet, would like to see him have a full season at full back, look at what that experience did for Jamie.

08 Feb 2013 20:55:09
Eds fellow reds, going on stadium tour with Phil neal tomorrow, just wondering if first team are training at MELWOOD and if you know there training time. {Ed001's Note - I would assume they are, as we are playing on Monday, but not sure what time, often it is altered ahead of evening kick offs.}

08 Feb 2013 20:09:07
Am I the only one who thinks BR is going to start using Kelly as a Center Back? I mean, we know he has leadership quality and we know the right back position is stacked, Wisdom, Flanagan, McLaughlin all come up through the ranks not to mention Johnson who already has the position. I honestly think he can be bred into a Carra-like Center Back, he's strong, he's fast, he knows how to put in a tackle, its his original position.

Heh, just makes sense to me, thoughts?

CodeRed

He is a centre back anyway

Kelly is the Bolton brick, he's too big to be flying down the wing as a modern day full back every week and he keeps picking up knocks for his troubles.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him given that role at CB, or to occasionally see him flying down the wing when we are stuck with injuries. Most of all I hope he can keep himself fit, he's a very good player and we need him next season more than ever with Jamie Carragher hanging up his boots at the seasons end.

I think we will buy a centre half in the summer. I think Ashley Williams. don't like him as I think he is 1 cocky mother but based on footballing ability I would love him at Anfield.
I would not buy any more because that would stunt the growth of the likes Sama, Wisdom, Kelly etc.
I think Skertel and Coates will go as well in the summer.
If I was in charge (god help us) I would promote Sama and play Kelly at centre half. use wisdom at centre half in an emergency and buy Ashley Williams.
jonnybarnes89-90

I'd bring in Ashley Williams for two reasons

1) his clearance against UTD (the one where RVPs head got in the way)

2) his dedication for his club (getting in the face of Hazard with the ball boy)

He's also a bloody good centre back and a born leader.

08 Feb 2013 18:20:32
Hey eds!

Any idea if Kelly will be moving to centre back now with Carragher retiring?

I always thought we were doing the same with him as we did with Carra, getting him experience as full back then moving him in.

Didn't know how much faith Rodgers and co had him though with him being injured for so long.

Cheers :) {Ed001's Note - it will depend on fitness and form, not just his, but the other players in those positions too. I would like to see his pace at centre half myself.}

08 Feb 2013 19:42:41
I would expect Williams of Swansea to be bought in the summer, great defender, organiser, leader and has a big mouth!

EVO YNWA

Agree. One of the best defenders in the EPL

Red Machine

I agree he seems a good defender, but don't really want him after what he said about suarez. Dennis 89

I think players say far worse to each other in training every day. Wouldn't read too much into it if Williams was a target.

Jamie Carragher retiring (Carra)
Jamie has made his anouncement at a crucial time just after we've completed our 2 most difficult games.
The timing I think has been well thought out? So as to eke out just that little bit extra from the squad between now and the end of the Season, that could make the difference.
There's a total togetherness in the squad and I think all the lads will be busting a gut to get 4th even more so now; so Carra has a good send off.
We've still got difficult games but there definitely winnable.
So Jamie a big thanks for some wonderful memories and let's hope you can help us to get 4th place and maybe even Euro Glory before you go. Now that would bring the house down on the final day.

Kudos to Murton Red, called the Kelly contract signing before the weekend. Also heard from a guy who has close contact to Kelly that he won't be back until the last 3 games of the season sadly.

Thanks fella just put on what I hear sometime I am right sometime wrong but I put it all on hear

Kelly signing a new contract is brilliant news. He an outstanding footballer. He is top class at RB but also can be a proven CB. Young, local lad, he knows the culture, how to play for the badge, has the hunger and a -great attitude. Kellys without question is going to be a great Liverpool player. He will serve us right for a very long time'

Big Al

Always a concern the amount of injuries the lad gets. Other than that, great potential.

Nick

Hopefully the next Carra
G

He's from Bolton, that's not exactly ''local'' it's English, it's northern, but I wouldn't say the otherside of Manchester is ''local'' but that is subjective I suppose.

Great lad, hope he can keep himself fit next season and get a great run of games. Martin ''The Unit'' Kelly.

He was born in Whiston which certainly ain't Bolton mate

there seems to be a growing consensus that spanish football is on the verge of total collapse. the amount of money la liga clubs owe in loans and tax is absolutely shocking. How have the clubs allowed this to happen. also is it an ominous warning for the premier league.

Yeah, it's mismanaged to the point of dilapidation.

Hasn't it all happened before in Spain, with the Spanish government just writing off Real Madrid debts a few yrs ago.
Perhaps Real and Barca are too important to the Spanish economy.

kidmillions

I don't think they did kidmillions. Did Real Madrid not sell their training ground to the local council for €500 million?

The Irish Rover {Ed001's Note - yes, for a massively inflated price, many times its true worth, and with a new, bigger, better equipped training ground thrown in to replace it too! They would have been in trouble back then otherwise.}

Barca and real have more than 260000 socios each, they all have a vote no political party will dare to hurt them financially. its not only football its politics.
real has more than 700mil dept and keep buying players there wage bill cannot be compared to any club in the world they have more than 10 players on 150k a week.

08 Feb 2013 21:23:00
Kidmilions mate because Barca and Real are owned by Spanish Goverment so they are always safe

That is why our owners are being so careful with the finance

08 Feb 2013 23:44:51
Barca or Madrid won't be too worried of their Debts like other spanish teams as they Know their government will do everything to help them if you read some news some of their tax are Forgiven and they hold too much power in spain and world football at the sametime they have the biggest revenue in world football and pay the highest wages to their playing staffs. in short man city and chelsea would look like mouse infront of them interms of wages they pay

08 Feb 2013 16:28:56
Good to see Kelly signing a new contract. Maybe more chances for him as a center back when Carra hangs up his boots? Hopefully he can stay away from the treatment room! He has had his fair share of injuries.

The Irish Rover

08 Feb 2013 16:20:17
Hey eds, is Sturridge going to be fit for the game on Monday or do you think he may be rested? Cheers for all the hard work! {Ed002's Note - He'll be checked before the game.}

08 Feb 2013 16:08:40
Kelly signs long term contract! Its official!
Great news if you ask me.

VGRed

I think he's the top young defender in the whole Country. There's an opportunity in his favoured right sided cb position. I hope he takes it and remains injury free.
When you look at some of the muppets in that position for club and Country,
Cahill, Lescott, Smalling to name a few,
Kelly has everything going for him.

08 Feb 2013 16:02:06
Hi eds do you expect carragher to get a job in the coaching staff when he retires at the end of the season? {Ed002's Note - I really have no idea at all.}

I expect he'll do some T. V work, similar to Grey Neville on Sky, but he needs to be coaching soon enough, he has so much experience it would be wasteful not to do so. He might just want a year off!

08 Feb 2013 22:47:59
I hope he get's a job in management early, it's romantic to want him on staff at Liverpool but I want him gaining experience as the "man" to be ready in the next 5/10 years. Perhaps getting Tranmere to the top half of the championship first.

He's in a really strong position that he can drop down divisions to learn the craft but if/when he proves himself he'll be able to slot in at a top team seamlessly, he's been a part of a top performing club with world class talent most of his career.

08 Feb 2013 15:58:14
Do you think Carra will be replaced? {Ed002's Note - Why not read the posts from teh past couple of days?}

08 Feb 2013 15:44:06
Ed just out of curiosity what languages does Coutinho speak? I think in Brazil they usually speak Portuguese, but I assume he also knows Spanish?

Dan. {Ed002's Note - I don't know - Portuguese and Italian seem the likely starters.}

Why would he speak Spanish. have they moved Brazil or something? {Ed002's Note - He played in Spain for a while.}

Portuguese, Italian, possibly a little bit of Spanish and he will learn English as Lucas said he will help. The players that he will be able to communicate best with are Lucas & Texiera followed by Borini and then arguably Reina, Enrique, Suso, Nacho, Pacheco, Coates & Suarez. He will have already have one of our translators helping him to acclimatise to the UK's lifestyle, language but unfortunately not the weather as I still cannot accept it despite bing born here.
Scouse_Pride

Does he speak the international football language - scouse

The most common secondary language taught in Brazil used to be French, although I think it's English these days.

Maybe No. 23 instead

08 Feb 2013 13:51:19
Forgot to post before: Jamie Carragher will be revealed as new member of the coaching staff with a view to him taking over from BR whenever he leaves.

Probably you find this a bit far fetched but we are talking at least 2-3 years time.

Rodgers is here for the "long-term" 10+ years not 2-3.

Vice captain for me will have to be in this order of preferance

Agger
Lucas
Suarez
Johnson
Kelly (possible future captain and a local boy why not start early? Trn again hasn't done enough to justify it)

Lucas for me. Good? Check. Loyal? Check. Boss? CHECK!

If it is fighting sprite and passion in every game that we would be looking for there is only one guy for the job.

L7S

and no he will not be leaving in the summer unless its the club want to cash in, but I don't think they would.

KUMBER

Yep Suarez for me
Hop

The last time Suarez was made captain against Oldham he seemed to forget his role in the team and seemed to be preoccupied by it. Didn't start to be his usual self until Gerrard was brought into play late on and he took the armband.

I would like to thank Carra for his service to our great club even though he played in the longest run without a league championship he managed an impressive 11 winners medals. I feel sorry for our next number 23 as the only players to have worn this number have gone on to become club legends as God held the number before Jamie.

Just want to add my two cents to Carra retiring

To me along with Maldini he is the best CB I have ever seen. Its sad that all the Mancs and other non-Pool supports slag off Carragher. He may not of been the best on the ball, but my god could he defend. In my opinion I think he has done more for LFC than Stevie G. The sad thing is that Carra doesn't get noticed for the things he does at the back

He put his body on the line and gave everything for LFC. We will never have another player like him

Barry B

Carra is great but to suggest he has done more for LFC than Stevie is off the wall

08 Feb 2013 13:43:54
Mate I love carragher but don't get too emotional and down Gerrard to make your point. Gerrard has carried Liverpool fc for almost his whole career and because of him we have won trophys in modern era no one comes close to what Gerrard has done for Liverpool fc if carragher is soul then Gerrard is heart. please to posters don't repeat the mistake to slag Gerrard who is mr Liverpool he is not far away from retiring so have some respect and enjoy every minute of GREAT ONE

I love Carragher but you're over doing it

Chris in Tamworth

Wasnt maldini a leftback?

KUMBER {Ed002's Note - He played at CB as well.}

08 Feb 2013 13:02:36
Ed is there any chance we will retire the no. 23 jersey for Carra? I know it doesn't happen much in football but for him to be a one club man, which doesn't happen very often, is there any chance we could do this for him?
Cheers,
LS7. {Ed002's Note - I really have no idea.}

What a daft idea. Think of all the great no. 7's and 8's for instance.
Someone should be proud to wear the no. 23 jersey in the future. It should be given to a player good enough to inherit the shirt.
The Juicer

Retiring numbers except in exceptional circumstances (ie the sudden death of a player) should be left for teams like Chelsea who have no class {Ed002's Note - I can't think that Chelsea has ever "retired" a number Chris.}

So Milan retiring the number 3 for Maldini wasn't classy?
Love how you slag off Chelsea for no reason just to try and wind up Ed002. It's clearly you that doesn't have class.
Pathetic.

Ed002, I thought they retired Zola's number?
NotInTheKnow {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what the number was and am pretty sure they didn't.}

08 Feb 2013 12:41:25
Just a thought. is it possible to retire the LEGEND's NO. 23 Jersey. that would show him the respect and admiration that the GREAT man CARRA deserves!

08 Feb 2013 13:59:58
Nope its impossible if you look at our proud History their are more players who have done more then any modern Liverpool players so no chance son and if we retire Carraghers no. 23 then a lot of pundits and media will start comparing Carragher to our past players and that will be the last thing what Carragher or Liverpool wants because that will damage our and Carragher reputation at the sametime will be massive disrespect to our past players.

The number 23 jersey will now be able to inspire others to try to live up to Jamie's legacy, so I would definitely not retire the shirt.

Red Owl

Do you think Barca will retire no. 10 when Messi finishes?

I we did that we have to start retiring numbers between 1 to 23, there would be no shirts left to play in.

08 Feb 2013 11:55:30
Pity they don't retire numbers like they do in the nba. It would be great to retire 23 after the season.

Daveevad

I didn't read your post. posted a similar comment and then chuckled. I AGREE! RETIRE IT!

We have had a hell of a lot of great players at the club if we retired a jersey every time a lfc legend retired the current players would all be wearing triple numbers on there backs like saurez 107 gerrard 69 and so on

08 Feb 2013 11:36:35
It's very interesting to read the completely different takes on the LS comments

Tabloid headline back page news I will have to think of going if we don't get CL

The telegraph who unusually go to the trouble of using quotes in context their headline is LS talks of wanting to discuss his contract with a view to further extending it in the summer as he is exited by the project.

The moral of the tale unless you're Eds 1, 2 or Macca tell you do not believe the continual drivel the press feed us. If a story with wide ranging interpretation is on the back pages, it shows us all what we knew why print the truth if you can create a headline.

By the way not posted for a while really positive in the direction we are going.

If you can remember back riena had bought stability to a position we have struggled in years before him. I think we are taking him for granted. He has brilliant distribution and still pulls off top class saves regularly. If we can get an acceptable offer for him then let him go, however if we were to only get 8 million or so for him then how can we replace him with that.

hi eds

i would just like to say carra what a legend when you look at his Liverpool career for the early part and the likes of flanaghan robinson should take note he started off very well scored a goal from midfield but when it went wrong 2 own goals against utd he didn't let it get to him all players will have hard times imo. Now on to Houlliers spell in charge which imo cost carra a league winners medal, he was played here there and everywhere except his true position of centre half, he never moaned and just got on with his job. Now Rafa comes in puts carra centre half where should be and makes the spine of the team stronger allthough rafa could not get the balance right in the forward part of the team imo his defence mid gk were good enough to win the league and carra was a rock in that defence a long with big sami so let's hope there is a lot more like carra in the future of this club. Tommy Irish Red

Well said mate.

The vice captian Next season should be given to the player who will take over from stevie when he is no longer 1st choice.

Agger
Lucas
Suarez
Henderson

Are top candidates for me

Althouth my fiance just said JonJonJo should be as he's a great asset to the team.

I'd go Agger or Lucus

Henderson captain? He should not even be in the team!

Lucas every time

Agger could do with retiring too

Fiorentina in advanced negotiations to sign Fabio Borini from Liverpool, say Italian press

He's just come out and said he doesn't want to leave. the kids 21 with 5 teams already. I doubt he'll be going anywhere.
-Slim

08 Feb 2013 12:28:28
Borini is not happy sitting on bench this is the same reason why he left chelsea, at the moment can't see the lad dispatching anyone from our starting xi at the sametime italian are making worse by saying he needs to play regularly if he wants to play for his national team

Tbh his best bet is improving with top quality coaches and manager at Liverpool, earning his place then being. picked justifiably for italy

He needs to prove himself in training and then on the pitch to become a starter. Ask Hendo and Downing. It can be done.

08 Feb 2013 10:44:45
Was just watching some old Liverpool games and we've had some potent strikes in my time, I'm not too old so I won't include Rush but I was just wondering if you fans could pick one striker just one, in there prime who would it be, Fowler, Owen, Torres, or Suarez, oh or Heskey? Leem.

Eric Meijer.
FowlerisGod

Suarez every time, he's unique

Fowler all day

becca

Sean Dundee.

Its got to be Sean Dundee
West Aussie Red

Fowler.

Wavertree Red

Karl-Heinz Riedle

Robbie Fowler, and if Suarez stays more years, he would be second. aklfc

Titi Camara lol
Murton red

Hace to say Torres in his prime was class, having said that so was Fowler.

Rush not only for his goalscoring but also for his work rate, even when he was up front on his own, without doubt THE best

alan50

They all offered something different:

Fowler, Owen, Torres, or Suarez, oh or Heskey

Fowler - Finishing, positioning
Owen - Pace and finishing
Torres - Power and first 10 yeards of pace
Suarez - Skill, passing, intensity
Heskey - Power and Strength

Overall, watching Fowler for many years, the guy hardly missed a half chance! Suarez skill is unmatched and creating chances from nothing is amazing, yet is workrate is devastating. And Torres burst of pace and finishing was just frightening. Those 3 in that order.

It would definitely be Ian Rush for me as well.

Fowler mate, without a doubt (If you had included Rush in your list I'd have been cringing trying to choose).

As regards Reina, it is interesting to read all shades of opinion on these pages, but one thing that never happens is that the Reina supporters never explain what is wrong with him.

At a time when he should be reaching his peak, he can barely move. Is it arthritis, is he homesick, does he have personal problems, is it his eyesight.

If anyone has a clue, or opinion, please enlighten me.

We had the beat keeper coach in the world in xavi valero and he left with benitez mate, if I was in charge that would be the first thing I would do is get him back as he works with the strikers aswell to get into opposition keepers heads, that's why Torres was also so good, that an gerrard. I think ed001 would agree with this also.

KopEndDannyLFC

KopEndDannyLFC {Ed001's Note - fully agree, he was a massive part of our success, bring him back.}

He's paralyzed by fear. he's got 0 confidence at the moment. you can see a certain presence about him when he's on his game. he's quick with the ball and moves to spring attack after attack. now he's second guessing every movement and thus a step slower than he normally is. also in the past 3 years he's played in almost every game this year he's had about 4-6 weeks out through injury which has hindered his confidence and match fitness.
-Slim

We've been poor at defending corners and free kicks for a long time, even under Rafa we were constantly criticised for zonal marking.
We conceded with Carra and Hyypia, Agger and Skyrtel. Carra and Agger, Carra and Skyrtel.
It doesn't matter which pair of centre backs we have in place we are still vulnerable from free kicks and corners. The one constant in defence has always been Pepe?
It's my view he's never dominated his penalty area as a top class keeper should, he was at one time a good shot stopper but now his reactions seem slow and his decision making has worsened remarkably over the last 18mths or so.
I will never criticise any of our players for loss of form or the odd bad game but Pepe's poor form is ongoing so is bound to attract criticism.
I think he needs a new challenge to re invigorate his career or if he does stay a prolonged period on the bench would help him to re focus.

Im sick to the stomach. So called supporters on here showing total disrespect to Carra over the last few months (and Kenny before him). Mindless people who don't know the first thing about what football is really about.

Hang your heads in shame, you know who you are.

It cost absolutely NOTHING to show respect to people, and its not smart to slag people off from your keyboard, its cowardly and sad. I suppose this post will fall on the deaf ears of the keyboard warriors, sniggering in their locked away bedrooms. And once they have read this post you can guarantee they will hit the disagree button then have a childish snigger.

To the no named posters whove had a go at any of our team in the past, get a life lads. learn about respect for your fellow human beings, especially one like carra who has given his life to our great club since the age of 9 years old. A truly remarkable achievement, and a truly remarkable human being.

Good luck Jamie in your career and please come back when your ready

Hey mate I've never liked or rated JC as a person or a player and I'm glad he's leaving so finally our club can move forward instead of every decision, appointment or signing having to be met with the approval of someone with housebricks for feet, who struggles to find the same colour shirt with a pass. We've built the team around mediocre players for too long

Arnold, them "housebrick feet" have made an awful lot of tackles and blocked a lot of goal bound shots down through the years, you should be ashamed of yourself!

Genuine supporters really don't care what you think, if all you can do is be disrespecful to one of the most loyal players our great club has every had

Go away please.

Wow, if you want loyalty guess you must buy a dog. Carra is legend and great servant to this club. Wind your neck in son.

It's great to see more youth players possibly getting a chance with the Europa League with the likes of Ibe, Pelosi and Adorjan being included in our Europa League squad we have a bounty of good young players and I hope this continues I prefer this style of promotion as players learn the style of play from a younger age.
Onwards and upwards I hope these lads do well but I think we shouldn't be too quick to jump on them if they do not perform as they are still fairly young give them a chance to learn they still have plenty to do.

AndyKopLiverpool

They are always included virtually, just never play

Time for an update on my predictions in December and a comment on my lack of credibility as a pundit- (with one or two interesting exceptions)

1-Agger will go To Man City for around 15 million, with Adam Johnson coming to Anfield as part of the deal.
2-Sahin will NOT sign
3-Adam will go to Fulham OR another club, possibly Everton or Sunderland for 5.5 million
4. Dempsey will sign on deadline day for £8. 25 million
5-Carroll will STAY, as will Cole and Downing, at least until January
6-People will start believing that BR IS a good manager and will not be as wasteful with the scarce funds we have as KK was
7-We will finish 7th in the Premier League
8-We will sign another Swansea player before the 31st.
9-No-one knows yet who will replace Agger!
10-Borini will be considered a flop
I stake my reputation as a respected armchair expert and pundit on these predictions and promise never to post again if I'm proved wrong on more than 6 of them! YNWA,
Learpholl {Ed002's Note - All perfectly possible. }

1 and 2 were bollo*ks (although probably better if Sahin didn't sign) 3 was semi right. 4 was bolloc*s. 5 was semi right as Carrol is still a Liverpool player and Cole did stay til January and Downing remains. 6 is spot on! 7. Again-spot on! 8 was bolloc*s, and 9. But it seems 10, unfortunately was right.
I'm getting there.

They was all b*******.

Plymouth Red.

I generally thought when reading down that someone was going to be like you just mugged your self off with how poor them predictions were. Haha can't believe you think they were any good?!

Plmouth Red, when you, in your wisdom and gramatical brilliance say 'They was all boll*x', are you including Borini, Adam leaving, BR measuring up and the 7th place prediction? well. was you?
Learpholl

Borini hasn't been given the games/time to make a predicament as of yet, you said Adam was going to Fulham he in fact went to Stoke, We haven't finished 7th as the seasons nowhere near over.

Plymouth Red.

I agree with Plymouth red.

We haven’t finished 7th, the season isn't over yet.

Borini hasn't been a flop, he has been out injured for most of the season.

Morning eds, I replied to a post from mgz last night about ffp, it was there first thing this morning but has now been removed, any reason why? Thanks

Waro {Ed002's Note - It attracted some abuse Waro.}

Ha ha ha, you should have posted them ed, I can take it. Some people just can't debate a subject, how boring would this site be if we all agreed. Thanks for the reply.

Waro {Ed002's Note - Ideally we would like to avoid at least some of teh abuse. Have a great day.}

Lucas for vice anyone?

Square tomato

I wouldn't argue with Lucas or Agger being vice-captain.

Not for me. Agger without doubt

Amz

Lucus or agger.

Dagger for me but possibly King Luis? had it at Oldham and what a sweetner for him to stay.
FowlerisGod

Would be happy with Agger also, it was interesting seeing Suarez captain make me wonder if BR new Carra was retiring then and wanted to see if he could handle it but I would prefer him to concentrate on scoring goals than captaining the side.

Pepe, if he was staying, if not it has to be Luis. Johnson might be a good shout too

What a signing Carra turned out to be, great peace of business by Garard Holeeai

Infact kenny daglish would have been in charge when carragher signed for the club aged 9 in 1987/88. Even then being 9 years old he was probably signed by someone in the youth set up, not kenny himself.
Houllier/evans gave him his first team debut in 1997, he wasn't signed by them.

That would be the Gerard Houllier with the unusual Northern French Spelling of "Roy Evans" then? Come to think of it Carra probably joined the academy during Kenny's first reign? No doubt someone can enlighten us?

ProfG

With the appointment of Rafa Benitez in 2004, there was fresh optimism at Anfield and more importantly for Carragher, a fresh outlook.

Whereas previous manager Gerard Houllier had refused to be swayed into fielding Carra at centre-back (even despite protests from assistant manager Phil Thompson), the incoming Rafa instantly acknowledged Carra's ability to excel in his favoured role.

The Spaniard slotted Jamie back into the middle alongside Sami Hyypiä for the start of the 2004-2005 campaign and the rest is history.

I got this off the website btw. Carragher also acknowledges that he played his best football under rafa benitez.

Wish Jamie Carragher all the best in his retirement.
He has Liverpool running through his veins and would like him to get a coaching roll at the club. I remember as a kid looking at pictures of the dressing room with Shankley, Paisley thinking who are these other people (remember this was before the internet). Turns out it was Fagan, Evans, the line just kept coming with natural progression. If we can get back to that with Rodgers then next in line Carragher, possibly Gerrard in a couple of years time, Rodolfo Borrell. let's get back to the natural progression that was the boot room. A system that worked, a system that won.

One thing i'm really liking about BRs management is that he's not afraid to drop players who are under-performing. Downing, Hendo and Carra had to fight for their places early season when their performances weren't up to scratch and they have risen to the challenge and claimed their first team positions again. More recently Allen, Sterling and Skrtl have been warming the bench after some below-par games.
Maybe this is to give them an occasional rest, maybe it's to give them a kick up the backside. Either way, he's the first manager for a while to recognise poor performances and give first team places on merit.

Do you think Jones will play against the Baggies?

Would Liverpool still be looking to add to their youth team eds? Someone like a David Babunski who has huge potential would be good purchase. Anything on him at all? {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

Does anyone know how many assists Gerrard has got for Liverpool since his debut?

It's a hard stat to find. Cheers all.

BCDI. {Ed001's Note - try this: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/steven-gerrard/leistungsdaten/spieler_3109_gesamt.html it is normally fairly accurate, though there are always disputed assists and goals to make it difficult to be exact.}

Personally I have never forgiven Nani for trying to end Jamie's career a few seasons ago by aggressively throwing his shin into the bottom of Jamie's foot that could have broken a metertasle ( sorry for spelling)

Chris r

But to be fair to him, Nani was very upset about the incident

cozinoz

Almost killed him too

To be fair to Nani it was a pretty bad cut, but at first he ignored it and ran over to complain to the ref, and only then did he remember to fall to the ground as if he'd been shot.

He cried like a little girl when he seen the blood has he played since lol. Tommy Irish Red
