To everyone who has complained about the high fee payed for Henderson with the fee being 16m rising to 20m through add ons. Arsenal have signed a 17 year old who is unproven in this league for 12m rising to 15m in the same position as Henderson by buying Oxlade Chamberlain and Henderson can also play in the centre. Henderson has been proven at this level shown by last years stats so will all these so called Liverpool "fans" stop slating the new signings before you actually see them in action.

we signed 3 midfielders,we needed to sign 2 defenders and 2 wingers.
we should have signed a midfielder once poulsen and aqua left the club.i expected more this summer,Henry should gives more money money we are still to far behind the other teams.manu won the league and have spend more than us and will get snijder from inter.
we have too many players that should have never wear the shirt again,ngog poulson insue jova soto.they are not lfc level.we bought maxi a bench player from atletico madrid.that would have never happened 25 years ago,thats why were winning the league back then,we only bought good players back then

Hi guys, ed's et al

just a quick question regarding Adam Morgan - is he going to be the next big thing or what? Every time i read about the youth teams this kid seems to score, score and score again

Is he close to first time action any time soon? Say carling cup and the likes?

Thanks

Thanks for the advice what to watch to cheer myself up is South Park is the program i watch when i'm pissed or owt. Look as robust as my posts have been in the past, i've only had a go a posters that have just ripped our club players or even owners. I shouldn't have to defend my self all day against a plank who has just tried all kind of under hand things in the last couple of days of just vile and vomit. I've chilled my asse out re swearing. To be honest he's still getting to much air time from me defo last post over him re of any replys. Never leaves a name but another poster confirmed my suspicion anyhow. Like i said Ed last post on the subject. Wasted a day of posting on a no mark who cannot call himself a fan. Jonson6

what about hangeland for our cb problem? must be cheaper than cahill surely {Ed002's Note - But in his 30s with no interest from Liverpool.}

08 Aug 2011 20:46:23
I've been told that liverpool will buy one of dann mertersacker or cahill dann first choice 2nd cahill 3rd mertersacker
also arsenal will sign one of these and there 1st choice is dann so we will wait and see whta happens

08 Aug 2011 20:43:52
Eds what I cannot understand is why we don't just put in a bid for Cahill now, surely with our lack of options at centre back its the obvious thing to do. Yet our transfer dealings so far have only solved 2 problem areas, doni and downing. Yes Henderson is for the future and IMO a great signing but seriously what was the need for Adam however I will be fully behind. One injury could potentially cripple our back four and that's almost guaranteed with agger. That brings me onto the left back issue. Aurelio is top class and hopefully he can stay fit however this in unlikely. I think we a left back who can nurture Robinson into the team someone ideally aged around 28 but not injury prone. So potentially for 25 million we could mount a serious title challenge. {Ed002's Note - There remains the need to unload the fringe players. Perhaps Dalglish is looking somewhere other than Cahill?}

Jose Enrique - £6.5m+
Scott Dann - £9m+
Shane Long - £8.5m+

08 Aug 2011 20:20:51
Ed is it fair to say that there is too much time left in window to say for sure what will be liverpool signings and sales could there be surprises because I heard a solid info.
Apparantly at juventus there is problem between melo and coach and they are sending him on loan or deal is in pipeline and to replace him they made an enquiry for Lucas which was "vetoed" by kenny and here word vetoed is important and rejected by saying he is not for sale.
I just thought after hearing this there are lots of clubs in england and abroad who will open their chq books in last 2 weeks in panic who unlike us have not got their targets and may start a donimo effect.

N'gog will sign for Bolton this week, with an offer being accepted in the region of £3.5m - Discussions are also well advanced for the Cahill to come the other way - KK has told the owners he wants him and is happy to stop the spending once he has been signed - Fee £15m plus £2m add ons

08 Aug 2011 19:35:42
Joe Cole is off to Spurs - A fee of £1.5m has been agreed and it will happen by the end of this week.

Views on potential buy backs?

Any buy back clause would, I feel, be a great addition to any potential sale package concerning Dani Pacheco, or indeed any of our other potential younger 'surplus to requirement' type players. Out of curiosity does anyone know why LFC has an apparent issue with loaning our players to Premier league outfits, rather than Championship sides, last season proved for a few premier loanee's Daniel Sturridge included, many just need games at TOP level, personally I do not rate the championship standard much higher (if at all) than Premier Reserve team football...your views guys??

I would like fans n Ed's opinion on why cleverly has been called into full England squad ahead of Henderson when he couldn't even make U21 starting line up in the summer?IMO it stinks. Although would rather Hendo stay at Melwood it's the principal.

Jimbob {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

08 Aug 2011 19:25:44
No left back signing - Fact - We WILL see either Dann or Cahill and this will happen before the weekend (personally, I think we may see both) plus a striker, likely to be Defoe.

08 Aug 2011 19:25:03
With Sunderland Saturday and a LB still no signed and with Johnson a injury doubt does this allow Robinson to prove his worth. I think its way too much pressure for a 17 year old to play a full season for us but with a good display he may be able to show Kenny he can keep up at this level and can fill in the role when Aurellio is injured. -Mc

{Ed009's Note - The player repeatedly squandered his chances at the club, largely due to inactions that we are not allowed to divulge for legal reasons and Kenny made it plain to Benitez that enough was enough.}

=======================================

I am not totally convinced but it would explain few things.
If true Its a shame in the past few months few posters have attacked Benitez on the Keane issue (waste of money -- did not like him -- trying to prove a point to Perry etc etc) that none of you in the know have posted few words with an explanation .. Ed001 did you know about this?

Roy {Ed009's Note - Ed001 is in precisely the same position as I am. He can not say any more either.}

08 Aug 2011 18:57:32
Hi ed 009 any chance of elaborating on why Kenny was one of the reasons Robbie kean left. just read the post and have never head this news thanks even an (apparently) answer would be good enough for me thanks for your time Dave {Ed002's Note - I refer to earlier answers.}

please explain how we meant to find the answer to this specific question?

thanks mark {Ed009's Note - He meant refer to earlier answers where it says we are not allowed to elaborate I believe.}

Liverpool are in better shape for the coming season. We have made necessary improvements to the midfield and such improvements will help create goal scoring opportunity's along with preventing goal scoring chances for opposing teams.

Yes, its great with KD but we need to
remember we still lost games to Blackpool,
West Ham, West Brom, Spurs, Villa so without
a decent LB and CB we will struggle to finish
top four. Injuries to Agger and Aurelio

Ed, I dont know why you put my post in the dodgy rumours section, id say ther is as much as a chance of meirles going to udinese as there was of henderson coming to us at the start of last season, anyway im hoping that he doesnt go and that source is correct in saying that he is raul is vaulable to us till
YNWA

RED P {Ed002's Note - According to you this was from Comolli's Facebook page: "this is according to his facebook page" - or was it Meireles' Facebook page? In either case, that was what put it in to the category of a Dodgy Rumour. Oddly enough, Fiorentina do have an interest in Meireles.}

08 Aug 2011 18:00:46
Why are so many people overly obsessed with linking us to every half decent footballer in the world when you consider how well we did last season when kk took over and the squad is so much stronger now with the signings we have made. Yes we need a cb and a lb and with these I see no reason why we cannot make a top 4 spot. The squad we now have can beat any team in the league and it will come down to the games between the big 4 and kk has shown us that on our day we can beat any of them.

A lot of talk about "Marquee signings" and their added potential for Champions League places. MCFC had Tevez as a marquee signing and then Adebayor and then Balotelli and then Dzeko. Two of these want to leave, one is trouble and the other doesn't seem up to much. Kompany and De Jong were much better buys in my opinion. I much prefer the approach of building a squad who will play for the club and not the wage packet. Would anyone really swap Suarez and Carroll for any of the above? KK has bought PL experience not just because they are British. If we complete on Enrique this will prove the point. Suarez was bought because it was felt he would adapt quickly and he did. The others we have just bought are all adjusted to the PL now. I would have loved to see Mata at LFC at one time but thought Adam was much better on Saturday.
I don't think we need Marquee signings for the sake of them. If there is one big foreign name who will fit in then fine (like Suarez) but it is the squad which is more important and a short term and a long term plan for the team.
If we get 4th place CL or better it will be down to the squad that has been assembled and not whether we have a Schneider or his equivalent. At the moment Adam and Downing look shrewd buys and Henderson has a little to prove but that is fine by me.

08 Aug 2011 16:49:00
If Liverpool have been offered Turan and have shown little or no interest then either they don't rate the player as much as everyone else does, or they have a better option lined up.

My reasoning is that either Liverpool feel they dont need another winger in the squad, as they have Downing already, or they have another player lined up or who they prefer.

Thoughts anyone?

It just seems strange considering he is a Liverpool fan and has stated numerous times that he would happily join us

Forgetting potential new CB signings im curious to know with Agger, Carra and Skrtel fit what would be most peoples starting 2 centre backs?

For me its Carra and Agger but t.b.h Skrtel had a great season last year and its hard to leave him out.

Another transfer saga that's getting so old,
Jose enrique to liverpool has been going on since the 10th of april when phil thompson decided it would be a good idea to blow his trumpet about a deal which couldn't actually be completed for a couple of months,
since then clubs have said there bit, pardew denying it completely, the media have been all over it, and fans debated alike, now for days, since last wednesday i think just about every media outlet and football related gossip sites going have reported that a fee has 'finally' been agreed ranging from 5.5 million to 10 million depending on what media body you prefer,
but still Nothing official from either club, and now we read alan pardew remains positive over jose enrique to stay, which seems ridiculous given enriques refusal to sign a new deal and publicly slating the club on twitter at his dismay over transfers,(which lets face it he has a point, nolan,carroll, there best players, sold, barton availible for free, another of their best players last term, ashley is getting rid of all the good players to line his sky rocket), so back to the enrique thing,
will it EVER end, only the carlie adam saga is out doing it as that one started in january, it seems strange for so many media bodys to be so convinced a deal is in place yet nothing official for over a week, and of course there is the Ed's on here, whose words seem pretty reliable don't seem to have anything concrete on it,
we all know alot of media talk rubbish, but for all of them to jump on board does seem strange, it's getting boring now, if it's true we need to sort it out, get him in and get him with team, if it's not true give the fans something to let them know, we shall see, but boy it's a boring one

08 Aug 2011 15:43:21
I hope with every fiber of my body that Cahill is not true.

To the poster who noted that about his full stops, he replied to a post not long ago and left about 4 well it was 4 when he finished his sentence on his last reply trying to get his mass up rising up. What k joker serious, cant belive a guy would go to such lengths to try and get someone off the site. From trying to get me banned to trying to turn the other fans against me. It's looking very likely that Man Utd are
on the verge of signing Sneijder, Chelsea about to seal the deal for Lukaku, Man City sign Aguero blah blah blah I think we will be lucky to finish top three, don't get me wrong: our signings have been terrific for what we are capable of in out current situation, Kenny is a fantastic manager etc but I just feel some fans need a reality check, a champions league spot is the best we can hope for, and let the proper spending/marquee signings commence.

08 Aug 2011 15:08:56
Red Will, thought exactly the same when he said that about De Gea's distribution being the best. I thought are they going to mention Reina's name or he was an example to all keepers to show how to distribute so accurate its spooky. He's more accurate kicking it from his hands then a lot and i mean a lot of players in the Prem would have trouble being as accurate off the Deck. Ye, totally biased garbage as per usual. Ed, do you know anything about whether Suarez will be back for the Arsenal game, or will it be a few weeks after that

Lets hope Carroll or Downing don't get injured whilst playing for England {Ed009's Note - Suarez could be back for the Sunderland game even. As Kenny has said, they will hold discussions and decide what he believes is a fair return date. The kind of player Suarez is, I reckon we could see him sooner rather than later.}

08 Aug 2011 14:42:23
Was watching the United game and couldnt believe what I heard coming from one of the commentators mouths.
De Gea makes a good pass up to Young which he isnt able to get too but it was a good pass fair enough in the 6th minute of the game.

The commentator and I quote said cant believe this young lads distribution of the ball I have never seen a goalkeeper with such awareness for a pass and excellent distribution.
I dropped my crumpet and spat out my tea WHAT I said has this man missed watching Reina all his life what a disgrace to say such utter rubbish.These people are on National telly talking to millions of fans and to just buy into one pass as if it was the most amazing pass in the world well I nearly turned the telly off.

Ive seen Reina make that style of pass a hundred times and Seen a certain Spanish winger not even let it hit the ground before he just burst it into the net what an absolute spit in the face of Reina makes me think they were bigging him up for the United fans watching but too just come out with it knowing it was a complete fabrication is unreal.
Very unsporting if you ask me.

Ye the poster who tore into Carroll and Henderson, a player who at 21 has the world at his feet. What a player he's gonna turn out to be. This particatlar poster always rips my post, i'd put my last pound on him being the one who tried getting me banned then called me a bigot yesterday for replying to A Spam fan and he claimed it was him i was insulting when unless you are a spam fan, which judging by his replies wouldn't suprise me, his DNA all over all three NAMELESS replies. the amount of negative rubbishe you post on here. Just grow some balls and sign off instead of hiding behind your keyboard with your spiteful venom ha ha. And i thought i had a temper ha ha. Jonson6

Hi Ed, do you think LFC will buy a backup winger after buying CB/LB just in case Downing gets injured, then there wont be any wingers to backup and it will be the same as last season. Your thoughts?
Thanks {Ed009's Note - I don't believe we will I am afraid. Maxi and of course Kuyt will be back up wingers, and Henderson is capable of playing wide right aptly.}

But i think we need a backup LEFT winger cuz we dont have any left foot wing other than Downing

Personally, i dont want to move for cahill, yes hes good but the price is unreasonable, id much rather go for dann, his determination is second to none, hed be nearly have the price of.cahill and is, in my opinion, just as food as cahill. Although birmingham went down they were difficult to score against, more so than bolton.
I also think Upson would be a cheap effective option, although his age puts me off.

Aurelio was really good against Valencia, if only we can count on him staying fit. Agger also played well but once again another injury prone player.

With Jovanovic off our wage bill we will now add a LB & CB before the window closes and and that will be it. My money is on Enrique and Dann.

It is only a matter of time before Aquilani goes back to Italy. His departure might see one more player added to our attack.

Ngog, Insua, Poulsen, Degen, and El Zhar are proving to be very difficult to get rid of. If not sold by the start of the 2012/2013 season they will be released on a free.

Maxi and Cole will stay this season but both will also be moved on in 2012/2013.

I hear from a neighbours dog, that he was touting to renegotiate with the prospect of goal line technology on the horizon.

Does anyone agree with me that the changes made to the Sky Sports website have rendered it useless? Its now way too busy.

Everything now takes an age to load because they are trying to cram too much in. They have added extensive menu's with 'quick links', which are anything but. Its the same at home on my broadband and on my work PC via the company server, so its not my connection.

Sorry to rant on something non-related to LFC directly, but does anyone else agree?

Ed's, as a sports website operator, would love to know from you if you think my rant is justified

Red G {Ed001's Note - I wouldn't know, I refuse to use Sky or any other Murdoch operation. Pointless using a site that is happy to post lies, half-truths and fantasy as fact. With the season starting in just 5 days, we still dont have a CB and LB, do you know of any movement on either position ? Do you think we will fill these positions by the Sunderland game ? Enrique with Downing the left with will a very exciting proposition and Cahill with Agger. just disappointing that rumours go on for weeks and nothing seem to be happening, Please cheer me up with some positive news {Ed002's Note - I have provided thoughts on a CB in a post which should be down the page a little bit. If a LB is signed, I guess Enrique is still favourite. I really think there will be a push this week to move some players on as well.}

What chelsea pay torres we probably pay less for Carroll and suarez.

Maybe Sjneider will join the Mancs, and it will make them look very strong, they were impressive in the charity sheild yesterday, lot of good young players in the squad but KK has put together a pretty impressive squad himself. We tore them asunder last year adn the thing that has let us down is dropping points agains weak teams, Blackpool ploayed us off the pitch twice last year. We've been able to compete against the top 4 last 2 years so if we can do that again this season and stop dropping stupid points then I honsetly think we'll be top of the table in May. The Mancs can manage to play bad for long periods of the season and still pick up crucial 3 points along the way in games they should be loosing, we need to start learning to do that, but I think with the likes of Suarez, Carroll, Adam now in the Squad we have more oppurtunities of scraping them games

The doom and gloom merchants on here are really starting to wear me down; we are going into a new season with one of our greatest managers in charge whose teams play attractive, attacking pass and move football and with a team that the owners have invested heavily in. I am trying to be optimistic for the new season but every time I come here, amongst all the great and interesting rumours and banter, there is too many people criticising our players, owners, manager or director of football. I know that everyone is entitled to criticise, this is a free country, but I object when it is unfounded and unwarranted.

Regarding the game at the weekend: I thought it was a steady if unspectacular performance, more like a Rafa type of game. What really excites me is when you look at the team that played on Saturday, and then add Gerrard, Suarez and Lucas – you begin to realise that our best 11-players will be a match for anyone in the league, I think that team would win far more than they lose. We now have the players available to play a variety of formations and styles to get us through a league season.

I thought Downing was superb and has really changed a few people’s opinions of him, I think if you asked Liverpool fans 2-months ago whether they wanted Downing or Mata, 95% would have said Mata. After Saturday’s game, and ignoring Mata’s performance but just concentrating on how Downing played, I think everyone can see what Downing brings to the team and now if you asked, it would be more like 70-80% in favour of Downing.

Henderson was steady in the ‘Houghton’ role but still managed to whip a magnificent ball into the box, much like he did against Vallerenga during the week. I think he does a lot of work that goes unrecognised and unappreciated.

Lastly who am I? I play for Liverpool in a deep-lying centre midfield role and I am well-known for my range of accurate passing. I like to spray the ball from one side to the other to spread the play and also have an eye for a killer pass. I have a fantastic dead-ball delivery and can score long-range goals. I am a bit one-paced and when caught the wrong side of a player I struggle to get back, my surname begins with an A. Perhaps if it ended with an O I would be appreciated more.

Sorry for the long post, keep up the good work EDS this is a terrific site.

good morning ed,s and liverpool fans ed where are we at regards the stadiam anfield is getting so so dated as a fan would love to c us with a quality stadiam i think liverpool as a club is massive worldwide and therefore we urgently need a beautiful stadiam a closed roof one would be nice {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new about the stadium. The owners would like to expand and refresh Anfield but there are hurdles in the way that are making that very difficult.}

I have heard from a good source that
Liverpool will sign Luis Enrique by Wednesday.

Listened to talksport yesterday and
Mark Saggers predictions for the end
of the season would finish like this:

1st Chelsea
2nd Man City
3rd Man utd
4th Tottoneham
5th Everton
6th Arsenal
7th Liverpool

Mark Saggers yet again predicted early when the league has not even started. and yet
again showing that he hates liverpool
by precditing they will finish 7th. The
man is a joker. {Ed002's Note - It does not mean he hates Liverpool. It means he thinks they will come seventh. I suspect Swansea will struggle to stay up this year - it does not mean I hate them.}

y didnt lfc go for aaron lennon or adam johnson over jordan henderson?
and y do lfc let reserve players just go like that
earlier it was ldv, kallecenik( ? or wateva hez at fulham nw), nemeth
nw wid kenny agin the same ayala, pacheco,
someday we wud loose sterling and suso if this continues
home grown players seema rarity at lfc . y?
all players left w/o being tested in bpl
signs of worry. we have academy that is giving out defenders and they are also not being looked at
time that flanangan, robinson, ady, coady, wisdom, even wilson get their regular places.
i believe this wud be a better defence ..
i hope kenny gives them their due.. instead of investing in more fringe players

I think re of what Big Andy does he's always gonna have people deriding him. Maybe when he wasn't fully fit he looked a bit ungainly at times but now he looks like he's gonna hit the ground running as he's looked sharper in each game. His price tag seems to be the main issue of why some fans patience has been so short with him, or they use that as an excuse anyhow. How many times i read he cost more then David Villa is frightening, but then David Villa also cost about 10 mil more then our own Luis, and as good a player Villa is, he's not in Suarez's class who's rapidly moving up to become one of the best in the world. Even the centre half who he had a running battle with on Sat,Rami praised how good in the air he was and how strong and and awkward to play against, saying that defenders wont like playing against him next season. Same thing Skirtl said about him. Like an earlier poster said about judgeing him in 5 years and then see if he's been worth 35mil, i totally agree but i think he'll be here longer then that. Luis and Big Andy will give defenders more headaches then any other pairing or strike force in the Prem bar none. Jonson6

Like everyone else I can't wait for the season to begin, however I am still concerned that it is now August 8th and we still have not bought a left back and a centre back. No matter how good our young crop of defenders are we DO need a quality left back. Both Raffa and Hodgeson failed in this department and the problem does need addressing. Our current centre backs have reached there twighlight of there careers, Carra, Soto, and Agger is too much of a
risk with injuries as he is undoubtfully our best CB
Skirlte is now injured too.

I cannot understand why these two problem areas have not been filled already? Surely these two positions should have been a priority, we should have filled these positions as soon as the transfer window opened and then let the new defenders have a pre-season with there new team mates to settle into a new team in time for the new season?

All KK signings this summer have been quality additions and have made us stronger as a team, it's just our defence that concerns me, we conceded 44 goals last season our worst record in 12 years. Does anyone else share my concerns?

after enrique we need no-one else why fill up the wage quota, i believe what we need now are world class playerrs, ie striker and winger but we are not looking 2 much of an attraction to many of the stars at min-however that will change, i personally want arda and benzema, we cud play 3 man attacking prong- we lack depth up top

Why are some supporters so negative about our squad. I am always positive about our chances and believe we have a chance for the title. I support whoever plays for our club, even if they are not up to scratch. I SUPPORT THEM That's what real supporters should be doing. I love my team and nothing will ever change that. Come on my fellow Reds, let's get behind our team. I believe we can win it.

Eds...great site...

I just want to share my two cents about Carroll...

at 35m is he worth the price? right now - no - but we were paying for a current good player with potential to be worth at least that price in future...he was Newcastle's prized asset, British and a different type of forward that we needed...and just say he gets 10-15 goals a season while also being an international...can anyone see us getting less than 20m if we sold him in 4 years at the age of 27?

did the knockers watch last season's games against Sunderland and Man City? he won us the game against City and in many years I have not seen a more dominant aerial display by a Reds player than his against Sunderland...he got to about 90 percent of all set piece crosses...try to watch this game again because here's a side note...guess how many crosses were actually put in to him during open play...zero...now we have Downing, Hendo and Adam...

the only thing I'm worried about are injuries and his love for extracurricular activities...but if he can realise that he has a chance to be great then things can only be positive...give our number 9 a chance...

Carroll mockers - don't forget we have him signed for five years guys - we probably wont get 35mil worth of return out of him in his first year (I dont know how you value that, but people seem to have thir methods, claiming he hasnt proved his price tag). If at the end of five years we can say the 35mil was worth it, he wasnt a rip-off. To make claims this early (7 months) is unfair and unfounded. I am not saying he will be a superstar - just that he deserves a chance to actually play some football before fans have a go.

Pre-season mockers - we have lost games, conceded goals and our new signing have not scored 10 goals each. We are in trouble?? WTF - then we win 2 - 0 against Valencia and we are still doomed for the season ahead. Enough has been said about the earlier games, but a win is a win - if we beat Utd 2-0 and dont look pretty doing it - who gives a toss? I think everyones expectations are too high. Accept a win guys, however it comes. Support the team through the pain of a draw or loss. We wont go through the season without dropping points guys, so be prepared.

What has happened, and what happens up until kick-off on the weekend is irrelevant now - lets concentrate of getting the team, supporters and club as a whole, revved up ready to tear the black pussies apart. Come on Reds - nothing matters now except for seeing Steve Bruce and his side going home with nothing.

I love that the wait is nearly over, and I love my Reds - come on boys

07 Aug 2011 23:46:23
As far as I know and I could be way wrong with this (Eds please help if you can) Henry did a deal with Chelsea that meant Chelsea would cover the cost of Andy Carroll's transfer plus 15 if they wanted Torres.
So if Carroll cost 10mil Chelsea would have to pay 25mil. Liverpool were quoted 35mil from Newcastle, Liverpool got an up and coming international striker plus 15million in exchange for a player who had no desire to play for Liverpool any longer.
This is one situation where it doesn't matter how much Carroll cost because it was a win-win for us.
Please consider this and then support Carroll. He is a Liverpool player and we are Liverpool fans. With our backing he will come good.
