I think people are underestimating how important a player Lallana will prove to be for us.
He scores lots of goals from midfield, his touch is as good as any other player in the league's and his pressing stats are almost as good as Hendo's, not to mention his passing range is phenomenal.
I watched a lot of him last season and he fully deserved to be in the PFA team of the year.
I just hope his injury hasn't set him back too much!

Yes mate seen it myself think that will be Stevie gs replacement in 18 months

Agree1 Disagree0

Why 18 months, why not now?

Mcgoveb I presume you are joking mate because a player like Stevie is irreplaceable in our team. After watching his performance in all three EPL games we played this season I can tell you that in terms of passing abilities and commitments there is no one like him in the EPL.

If that italian player we have is anywhere near the pitch sat tea time, it's the first time ever I will refuse to acknowledge a Liverpool player regardless of what he does on the pitch, no cheers no boos nothing. He's invisible to me. DONE!

{Ed001's Note - why? You aren't one of those who believe every bit of crap you read on tw*tter are you?}

Waro

Mate, You must have an Avtar image soon. Common something close to you.

Agree3 Disagree1

Never been on twitter or facebook ed001 there for people imo. Day after the sunderland bid I was told he wants top dollar and a big pay off from us, the lad who told me this is normally quite reliable so I believe him. And he said there's no chance of the deal going ahead as the figures were huge

Agree8 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - Borini's main claim is that he was Brendo's pick and he has never had the chance to prove himself at Liverpool. He doesn't want to move to Sunderland but would like to get back to Italy if he can. I see little wrong with that really.}

07 Sep 2014 18:59:21
I dunno mate, I'd rather have Borini as back up than not.
At least he always puts in 110%, that's all I ask from any player really.

Agree9 Disagree0

Lol, calm down Waro, get someone to untwist those knickers. Anyway, what if BR decides to give him game, and then goes on to score 10+ goals over the course of the season. Will you still continue in the same vain?

Agree4 Disagree0

Mate next time give the name of the player you refer to rather than 'that Italian player' please. I have read your message and thought to mysefl gosh what did Balotelli do now. lol and on that note even if his only role it to talk to Mario in his mother language and if that can mae Mario happier I am happy with him staying and even playing some league cup games or coming from the bench if we have several injuries.

Agree5 Disagree0

I don't actually see what Borini has done wrong? Why should he go permanently to a team in a relegation battle? Why shouldn't he want to prove himself? Remember the last player to refuse a deal he didn't want to go to so he could prove himself? Henderson, that worked out badly didn't it? No, it didn't, so let's give the lad a chance, give him the support to let him flourish.

Agree11 Disagree0

08 Sep 2014 00:07:35
I thought he meant balotelli!

Agree3 Disagree0

If I was at a club like Liverpool and they tried to palm me off to relegation candidates, I think I'd have something to say as well.

He had 3 choices, QPR, Sunderland or Liverpool. What would you pick?
He has a contract with Liverpool and it is entirely up to him if his best choice is to honour it.

Did you feel the same way when Henderson refused to join Fulham?

I don't know about you but I am more than happy to give him a chance and see where it goes.

Red Rum

Agree5 Disagree0

You should really blame Brendan and the club for signing him in the first place, Waro, rather than the kid for holding them to their own contract.

Besides, FSG would have just pocketed the money or something anyway if they had sold Borini as part of their asset stripping of the club (just a wee bit of sarcasm there).

Agree2 Disagree0

Im sure Borini won't notice the lack of noise coming from Tier 6, Seat 19, Waro.
I will support any player in the shirt who tries his hardest on the pitch and Fabio can never be accused of lacking effort. Most footballers these days are mercenaries to a degree anyhow. I've a funny feeling this might just be the season Borini impresses anyhow and I'll be cheering him all the way.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Waro every player who leaves us gets a pay off! Are you really just a WUM???}

08 Sep 2014 07:28:36
Waro,

The lad has shown more desire in that one instance than most do their entire career. He has made his stance firm, he feels he is good enough to make it and is willing to fight for his place.
If it goes well the fella may well save us another £20m+ outlay in a year or so's time. Take your head out your arse and support the player, he plays for the club we all love and may well prove to be a success. If not he deserves our respect for his efforts.

Agree2 Disagree0

TBH Brendan won't b that upset by keeping a player who can help out. He isn't worried about money and it's not as if the 10+ mill on deadline day was going to b used for a final purchase so made no difference to BR either way. I think borini n Mario may play together, they no each from u21's and BR is far more likely to play them as a pair than Rickielambert n Mario. Wait n see I say could b just what we need whilst Danny is out.

Agree1 Disagree0

There maybe some truth to this. I seem to remember Waro getting the team news right on plenty of occasions some time back.

If your source is the same guy on this occasion, maybe there is something to it.

But, Borini has pretty much cleared up the situation, indirectly.

1. He has said that he believes he is owed a chance at LFC.

2. If LFC don't want him, he would like to move to a club he considers a big club.

3. If he can't get a "big club", he wouldn't mind moving to a Sunderland or a QPR, provided they treat him as an "important player". That is: Pay him a very significant fee.

4. He will only stay with them for a year before he can move on to a club he likes, preferably in Italy.

He cleared all this up on twitter.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Sep 2014 14:48:54
If it was up to you, would you then rather have bought Schneiderlin than Lallana?

Not sure what I would choose. EMS suggested that Lovren could play Gerrards position, which I think would be brilliant.

Problem is if Gerrard gets injured then we are left with Lucas (Can could probably also fill in). Lallana offers more up front, but I think we already had enough offensive players when we bought Lallana, contrary to the defensive midfielders we currently possess.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

07 Sep 2014 15:56:17
Morgan Schniederlin was a MUST. Lallana was an adition. ( but I am happy with Lallana)
Shniderlin ll never happen without Gwrrard dropping to bench

Agree1 Disagree9

I see Schneiderlin as more similar to Henderson's position that as a defensive midfielder, like Cork or Wanyama would be. Not to say he isn't a great player as he is.

And agreed that Lovren might make a fine CDM, if needed. Great range of passing, reads the game well, two footed, good tackler. Doubt we'll ever see him there, but I do think he could do the job well.

Agree2 Disagree0

I would have. Lallana is no doubt a good player but Schneiderlein would have been more useful
Alternatively we could have saved 25 million £ from last summer from ilori aspas and Alberto and got bought scheiderlein and lallana
a midfield of Schneiderlein Hendo Lallana is good enough to win the title

Agree3 Disagree6

Lallana was a priority for me.coutinho isn't consistent enough and has already shown that this season
Schneiderlin for me isn't a top class dm.everyone seems to overlook the work wanyama does in the midfield alongside him

I can't believe what I'm reading sometimes.

Agree9 Disagree0

Nope lalana for me, he's a much better player.

Agree5 Disagree0

Jessie Pinkman, how would you fit in Lallana in the team?

I was thinking a midfield of Henderson, Lallana and Can.

Agree2 Disagree1

There is no need to over-think on these.

1. Lovren won't be playing as a Defensive midfielder.

2. Schneiderline was NOT a must.

3. Even before the guy has kicked a ball, people are saying he is a luxury signing etc. By people, I mean Harry, who has started his bitching of new LFC signing again.

Agree14 Disagree3

07 Sep 2014 19:15:34
Lallana is a starter when fit. He will take allens place in the diamond

Agree9 Disagree0

I agree with frankly.
Midfield diamond. Gerrard at the back, hendo and Lallana in the middle and sterling up top.
Then we have 3 players on the bench that are game changers in different ways, you have coutinho and markovic if we are chasing a game and Allen to kill a game off when we are in front.

Agree12 Disagree0

Yes, Lallana has failed miserably hasn't he. hold on a minute he hasn't played a competetive game as yet, let's write him off anyway.

Agree9 Disagree0

This was not a post to write off Lallana, I just wanted to hear others opinions. I my self think Lallana is great, not sure what to think about the price though. But as fans I don`t think we should worry about the price of a player

I want to add my little contribution to the ManU v Liverpool debate. I have no clear view on which player is better than the other, I think at the moment we are a better team and I hope that will be enough to finish above them at the end of the season. Personally if we finish top 4 and they are out of the top 4 I will be happy almsot as if we win the title (I will explain later why). I have to say though that I am worried and a bit disgusted by what ManU are trying to do. I think all the major teams finished their big signings for this year but they have big plans for the January transfer winodw and there are reports that Adidas, their sponsor, push them (and giving them 100 of milions of pounds) to try and bring the biggest names in Europe including Ronaldo next summer(s) - and you get the impression they will not stpo until they have the most expensive player in each position. It is very funny that during last season they kept on saying they would never bring a 'Morinho' and would never sack Moyes or try to buy 11 new players because that is not 'the United way'. One bad season and all this 'united way rubbish' went through the window, they will just do anything to buy their way back to titles etc. And eventually if they will have the money to buy anyone they want, including top managers they are likely to succeed. All this fair play nonsense of course will not prevent it as it is not really about stopping the big teams in any way. The only thing that can stop it is if ManU will finish this season out of the top 4 (apperantly Adidas will dramtically lower their financial support for new signings if this is the case). I know this all sounds on the one hand a bit naive and a bit histeric and to some extent these are the ways the modern game is and to an extent we also enjoy it, but I still think it is a shame that there are no ways around this.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Could equally go the way of Leeds.

Not too sure about the signing of victor valdes, I really don't rate him. He is good with his feet but not a good shot stopper. I think people assume he must be good as he played for barca. I accept mignolet has his flaws in footwork and command of area but at least he is good at what a goalkeeper is fundamentally there to do in keeping the ball out of the net.

I think he deserves another season before people call for his replacement

Agree1 Disagree1

07 Sep 2014 08:45:28
Hi lads, can I just put my opinion to you all, in regards to giving the youth players an opportunity.
I believe that Brendan is a manager who has proved that age doesn't matter and it's a simple case of him wanting the best player who can gain him the results he needs, now.
We all have an opinion and are free to offer it up for debate, some fans want to see the younger players given a chance, but the truth is the ones who have moved on, have been, because the management feel they are not better than what they already have. So they then go and buy young players who they believe have the quality to help the group now.
Alberto was bought last season and proved that he couldn't produce the form he had shown in Spain, at the top end of the Premiership. But when he played for the under 21's he scored an Hat-Trick. There is a big gulf between the two leagues.
I was interested in the names thrown up yesterday, Palletta, San Jose, the truth with both of them lads, when they left the club they weren't thought to be better than Carragher, Agger, Big Sam or Skrtle. And they certainly wouldn't have developed into the players they have become, in our reserves, or loaned out to Wolves, for 3yrs. I also believe San Jose left at the same time as Rafa,
so who Knows what might have happened if Rafa had stayed around.
The bringing up of Kevin Sheedy was funny. First of all Kevin Sheedy did have one of the sweetest left feet in the game and deservedly, became a legend at Everton. But at the same time we also had Ronnie Whelan, Who was younger and stronger and in my opinion an all-round better midfielder. The truth is Bob Paisley gave the younger of the 2 the opportunity to fill Ray Kennadys boots, and he took it. And even how well Sheedy did in his career away from Liverpool, Nobody should say that we lost out, because we didn't. We kept the all-round better player, the one who suited our system, who became the best Holding midfielder of the late 80's.We then bought the best left sided player of his generation, John Barnes. This question his for Daveyblue, I am glad you thanked us for Sheedy mate, but which left sided midfielder made the final assist to win the 1986 FA cup final and settle the game?
I watch all things Liverpool, all the under 18 and 21's games and I would just love to see the lads progress and step up, but the truth is the step up is a massive step and the only way you can be trusted to step in to a champions league squad you have to be as good or better than what's out there, Cruel, I know, but it's true. The way Brendan likes to play the game, he wants players who have technique, pace, power and an aptitude for hard work. I have loved watching the likes of Coady, Wisdom, Robinson, Suso, Texiera, Flanagan, Sterling, Kelly and Ibe trying to make a career out of the game for themselves, but at the time of Kenny being replaced by Brendan, I thought only Sterling, and Ibe have everything that Brendan looks for, I maybe wrong but I can eventually see even Flanagan being moved on for the sake of his career, just like Kelly was. I have been happy to see us buy the younger players in, like Moreno, Markovic, Can, Manquillo, because they do look a lot better than what we have in our under 21 squad. Just my opinion. Come On You Reds.

Believable11 Unbelievable1

07 Sep 2014 10:20:22
It would be a tough choice to pick between Stability of a club and mere youth development. Both should go hand in hand, And certain tough decisions would be on its way And everything is fair for the prosperity of the club.

Agree3 Disagree2

Good post JC, but I think we have bought these youngsters because they did have the potential to make the grade, the sticking point for me is, the ones who go on to make it with us or some one else get proper game time at the top, just like sterling we bought him and because he got his chance in our 1st team he has shown and produced the potential we bought him for, the difference between him and say suso is sterling got game time in our 1st team, and by that I mean proper game time at the highest level, I think if he went on loan to a lower division club then he would not be where he is now in his growth, now look at jordan ibe, if he got the same chance sterling got I do believe he would be just as good as sterling, even when sterling had a bad run of games with his form he was still given the chance, and I believe because of that he has blossomed into the player he has become, our other young players with potential need the same game time, its hard to give them the chance when trying to win games, but if they don't get game time at the top level they don't show their potential untill they get a chance to play at higher levels for different clubs, as happened with san lose, and it will happen with kelly and suso when he leaves I just think its a pity some of our top youngsters have to drop down a level to get game time and because its a level drop down they don't get better because they are not playing against top players so they can't develop properly,

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems to me, whatever the club's plan, or the players potential, there's still a massive amount of luck in who gets a chance and when. All the young players can do is be ready for a chance and make sure they take it to the best if their ability. Look at the stories of previous club legends, most had to wait their turn and grab the opportunity when someone ahead of them was injured or dropped. Nothing beats being in the right place at the right time - just unfortunate that most of the youngsters won't have that luck, but at least they are in with a chance - and who wouldn't want to be in that position as a young player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to emphatically; absolutely and unequivocally agree with Jimmy Cricket. The aptitude between players who are good but unlikely to break through to those who are good and/or better but have greatness/intelligence to be much more is huge. The latter are rare and a great club like Liverpool owe it to ourselves to continually strive to whittle out these gems. Sterling is a great example, Gerrard is another. However Jamie Carragher is the best example of them all. He may have lacked the technical abilities of the other two mentioned above but he was a leader; shouting; bossing the other 3 defenders. If he did not possess that quality he in my opinion would not have become the legend he is today. in fact he mY not have even played out his who career at Liverpool.

Anyway Eds (001+002), I' still gutted about Agger leaving. But I have loads of admiration the way
he did not want to play for another club other than
Liverpool or Brondby. let's face it he could have made
a lot more money joining another PL club. I'm curious if you know of any clubs who were interested in him?
There was a roumour of Man City some seasons ago,
also a move to Barcelona, or Napoli? Do you happen
to know of any clubs that were interested in DAgger?

Believable10 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - this season only Napoli, but in the past everyone from Arsenal to Zenit have shown interest in him. It has always been him who never wanted to go, even when it was Barca at the height of their domination who made him an offer.}

I remember City made an offer of around 20 million GBP for him when BR had just been appointed. Dagger could have forced the move bcoz City were the reigning champions and he had the opportunity to win lots of trophies and earn more money, but instead he got his knuckles tattooed with YNWA and rejected them out right. Thankfully BR was on the same boat with regards to City's offer and decided to keep him. Would have made me sick to see the guy in a blue shirt. His loyalty is second to none.

It would seem loyalty in football is a one way street. He was a credit to the club and a very fine player.

Read that Suso and Borini had a good game against Wolves. Is this fruitless like preseason or are they actually going to get any chance in the first team?
I'd expect Borini, due to DS injury, but also have seen Rodgers be very stubborn.
Suso scored twice in preseason and played well. Like David Silva he ain't fast but is quick thinking.

I'm glad both included in the named competition squads, but still just hold minimal hope they'll get an opportunity.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Time is up for both of them mate. Borini could come in handy due to Sturridge's injury but BR has made it very clear he has no future at the club so I expect him to be gone in January and Yesil to be fast tracked to take his place in the squad. Really disappointed about how Suso has been treated. The kid's struggling to make the bench in spite of his obvious talent, and looks like AC Milan will be picking up quite a bargain if reports are to go by.

Agree1 Disagree0

Yesil has had nightmare injury problems which may have set his development back irreversibly - it would be a weird risk to take. I hope the lad does recover and reach his potential - but I wouldn't see him being ready for anything near first team action this season. I hope i'm proven wrong but it would be a big surprise.

Agree2 Disagree0

I don't see Yesil taking anyone's spot in the squad. I think he is a free agent in January and I expect him to leave then.

Agree1 Disagree0

Henderson had no future either but had the right attitude they will play in cup games injuries like Sturrdiges may save there careers if they work hard and preform when the chance comes along
