Eds,
I hope you don't mind me mentioning a podcast that a lad has put on to RAWK.
It's a talk with Johnny Giles, largely about Shankly, but one or two other things as well.
It's Giles' opinions, as an outsider to Liverpool if you like, but nonetheless it is extremely interesting and not necessarily what you may expect.
It's on their 'Shankly 100' board, and the 'we all hate Leeds' thread.
I hope this is OK to name check this eds, but it's defo worth 25 minutes of any footy supporter's time.
Cheers.

thanks ed2, hopefully the planning will go in soon, 1 more question what would you make Liverpool exact net spend this window to be? including taxes etc. really happy with the window, hopefully we can keep improving, thanks {Ed002's Note - I can't give an exact figure at this time. Try around the end of September.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do you think we will be one of the top 10 biggest spenders in Europe again this season Ed or has the increased spending across the continent meant we're not so high spending compared to other sides? {Ed002's Note - It is dependent on what happens with any players being sold in January.}

It's a shame Sturridge won't make the Ukraine game, but as long as he's back for Swansea that's the most important thing! Good to Stevie score from outside the box last night too.

Danny ruled out against Ukraine. Good news for LFC but very bad news for England. Your views?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Delighted he is missing the game against Ukraine. Hopefully he would be ready against Swansea.
Not all LFC fans are English. Some LFC fans are from Ukraine.
So fingers-crossed Danny will be able to play against Swansea.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really couldn't careless about England. As long as Liverpool players are fit to play for the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Couldn't be happier. It is probably a major problem with the English national team but we English fans would rather see our club win games and trophies than our country. I would much rather Sturridge play against Swansea than against Ukraine and risk injury!

Agree0 Disagree0

Gutted for the lad. He very clearly wants to play for the National side and lead the line, with the kind of form he's in at the moment and with no Rooney it was his big chance to the be the main man up front.

Hopefully he continues his form and gets his chance in Englands next match.

I hope someone answer my question and little too early to ask this.
If(Big IF) we qualify for the Champions League next season, what pot number will we placed before the group stages? 1, 2, 3 or 4?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We would be in pot 4 because it is based on your Champions League finishes in the last 5 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

It goes off all European games so we may get a few points for our europa league last season but we won't be higher than pot 3 {Ed002's Note - It depends entirely on who else qualifies. Liverpool has taken a significant battering in recent years ranking wise and have dropped from 17th last season to their current ranking of 27th in Europe - and by the end of the season it will be mid 30s or worse.}

Agree0 Disagree0

How high in the rankings did we use to be ed? {Ed002's Note - I think third in 06/07 was the peak.}

Agree0 Disagree0

We were number 1 about 5/6 years ago. {Ed002's Note - Never number one but there was an =2.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Kiwisport

Agree0 Disagree0

UEFA's latest rankings: 1 Liverpool FC (114.077), 2 Chelsea FC (110.077), 3 Barcelona (109.403), 4 AC Milan (109.306), 5 Arsenal (101.077), 6 Sevilla (100.403), 7 Manchester United (99.077), 8 Bayern Munich (93.664), 9 Lyon (90.576), 10 Inter Milan (87.306).

After beating Barca at the Bernabeu in Feb 2009. Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 we were ranked first in 2009 after beating real madrid at the bernebeu.

Agree0 Disagree0

Real Madrid, not Barca! Doh {Ed002's Note - The relevant rankings are the ones at the start of the season - or do you think the redo the draws after each game?}

Agree0 Disagree0

If its good enough for Fafa ed its good enough for me ;-)

I recently turned on my wii having not had it on for about 3 years, turns out I can access the tinternet. What's the site to use now for footy since firstrow has gone to sky users and can I watch live matches with my wii.
Cheers ears {Ed002's Note - Firstrow will still be there - Google it.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah I did. Can't get it if you got sky or some shed like that

Agree0 Disagree0

Coolsportz works well too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ta la. nice one

Agree0 Disagree0

Wiziwig is the best site for live sports

Agree0 Disagree0

Firstrow.org still works but I have to right click then open the link instead of left clicking it

Agree0 Disagree0

Wizwig and cricfree.tv are my fav

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm guessing here but game consoles with internet are not able to show streaming due to not having a flash player.

does any1 feel we should let agger go next season if we get a good price we have so many centre halfs now r maybe skertle to we will need to cover the money we spent on new players

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Next season is like 1 year away. Goodness, I can't remember what I was going to do this evening.

Agree0 Disagree0

,Oh we got 4 good cbs now, let's sell 2 and get back to what we had in the beginning, 2 cb. {Ed002's Note - Which four do you discount completely, Kelly, Wilson. Coates and Agger - or others?}

Agree0 Disagree0

That's jumping the gun, the new signings haven't even played yet and we are talking about shipping off our vice captain?

Agree0 Disagree0

Wisdom*

Agree0 Disagree0

Was being sarcastic 002. after carra left we only had agger and skrtel. and now we have toure and sakho were good there, why sell just to get back to our position on the beginning? of course I am talking about players with experience playing CB in a senior league. kelly and wisdom only played RB. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool have eight first team centre backs on the books. Coates will be sold once fit. The club were expecting one of Skrtel or Agger to leave. I assume Skrtel and I would think the club are regretting turning down a decent cash offer. There remains a chance that there will be an offer for Agger come January. That leaves Wisdom and Kelly who must be wondering if they ever stand any real chance of a game.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I agree with that point about wisdom and kelly ed002. i'm fine with selling 1 as I also believe that we should have sold skrtel. but OP was saying we should sell 2. no way am I going to agree to that =/

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh and I also forgot about coates, but he was leaving anyway. but thanks for reminding me ed. haha

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Sep 2013 14:14:52
I don't see it that way, we know Wisdom was to go on loan, and Kelly will likely deputise for Johnson once fit, Coates will leave when fit and I expect Skrtel to leave in January or next summer, assuming he doesn't manage to make it back into the managers plans.
This will leave us Agger, Toure, Sakho and Ilori vying for 2 spots,
That Is the number of CBs we need and hopefully when Toure retires Ilori will be ready to step it up. {Ed002's Note - So what happens to Kelly and Wisdom next year?}

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2013 09:04:29
Well, personally I prefer Kelly at full back to Johnson, but I imagine he would stay as Johnsons backup, given Johnson is 29 now,
Wisdom next year will still only be 20, and if he gets a loan to the football league this season, will hardly be kicking the door down for a guaranteed first team place.
If he does well, perhaps a loan to a premier league side?
Also worth mentioning that in signing 3 CBs, its unlikely that all of them will actually stay more than 2 years,
Someone will fail to settle, under perform or have injury worries or just plain not be good enough, this could leave the door open for Wisdom or Kelly?
Also, Toure is 32, very short term option, proberly 2 years or so before he moves on?

Its good to be back. A quick question to all. Who would be your preferred Defensive midfielder for back up to Lucas?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be my first option. Or if he won't come, I will settle for Christiano Ronaldo in case Lucas gets injured.

Agree0 Disagree0

My picks would be Yann M'Vila or Nemanja Matic.

Doubt they would join as backup to Lucas though.

More realistic choices would be Jordy Clasie or Mohamed Diamé.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fernando Reges or has he moved?

or

Matheus Biteco

or

See how Yalany Baio does, I think he is the best defensive midfielder at the academy. does anyone know if he is injured at the moment as I haven't seen him play so far this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take M'Vila in a heartbeat, he wants out of Russia apparently. I think Rodgers would be able to sort out his off the field issues aswell

Ed's, if need be, could we recall borini from his loan or could we use a youth player such as Adam Morgan or samed yesil in the striker role? {Ed002's Note - I don't know the terms of his loan agreement but Morgan and Yesil are available to be used.}

What is it with Pepe Reina - I know I shouldn't read too much into what the anti Liverpool press are saying about him signing for Barca but his whole approach was based on keeping the reds as a second option (contract extension) just in case the Barca deal didn't material - since when did we allow players to treat out club that way regardless of their previous service. This is another example of the fantastic job that BR has done so far. For me Reina was taking the p. s, he (and his high wages) deserved to be offloaded by the club. Anyone else who thinks otherwise needs to remember that nobody is bigger than the club.

Jam 2275

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well on the flip side, at least, he informed the club that he wanted to leave rather than try to engineer one behind the clubs back.

With Altidore, Wickham and Fletcher already at Sunderland, how much game time is Borini actually likely to get?

He needs to play and I don't necessary disagree with sending him out on loan, but I'm perhaps wondering whether Sunderland is the right club?

Can one of the Eds explains what the club looks for when sending a player out on loan? Does the clubs style of play come into the reckoning? {Ed002's Note - Clubs will look to game time and the suitability of the league the team plays for experience.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He is better than at least two of them and can play wide so I wouldn't worry about that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Altidore seems first choice throughout their pre season - hopefully he can push ahead of the others.
Would be a shame to be on loan and not get many minutes, he could do that with us.

Hi Ed,

I was wondering if you could clear something up for me? I saw a post about Konoplyanka during the summer which said he only had 6 months left to run on his contract. Is this true?

And then - of course my next question - does this mean he is available for a pre-contract?

Cheers Ed {Ed002's Note - The Russian and Ukrainian leagues are rejigging their contracts to have June end dates and Konoplyanka's is being renegotiated.}

Hi Lads, Just watched the Uruguay v Peru game. Let me report that if Suarez if even shows anything remotely similar to the effort, passion and desire he showed tonight, teams in the EPL will pay Liverpool for him to leave the country so that he doesn`t have to torment them anymore. He won a stonewall penalty (and scored it) before rifling a dart into the roof of the net for his second (they beat Peru 2-1 in Lima). He had a blinder of a game with the typical Suarez attitude. `Hope he does the same for us and becomes more of a team player. If BR can get him to do that, We WILL have a very, very good season. YNWA!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

2nd goal was lovely. Our definition of a stonewall penalty differs greatly :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Godd post Mike. Maybe I might have exaggerated a bit about the penalty. But it was a penalty and He had a very good game.

Where are you doom and gloomers now, crawled back in to the woodwork until the next period of adversity? Is slating Rodgers and his signings seeming less clever now? I am not taking off in excitement over a good start, but it sure is nice with more positivity around here .

Thank you to the Eds for a fine job over the summer. I have checked this page more often than Henderson checks his hair, during the window. Hope you at least get a buck or two from Google ads :)
