My question is regarding the Celtic right back Adam Matthews, 21. Have any of the eds been following him, and if so what are your opinions of him. I've seen him a few times (but not many) and think he will be a good player. Just a passing interest of another team's young player.

Cheers,
Jolly Red

07 Nov 2012 23:51:05
My mistake, he is 20.

Jolly Red

I don't think Celtic want BR any where near their player. He doesn't need coaching from the tiki taki advocate. Jmac

Don't beat yaself up Kid! He's going on 21 very soon is'nt he so chill and be a Jolly Red! {Ed001's Note - Matthews was a target a while ago, the emergence of Kelly put a stop to any possible move though. Now Wisdom is also showing what he can do and Mclaughlin is knocking at the door, I very much doubt we would make any move for him.}

08 Nov 2012 13:08:52
Cheers Ed! I know that we are well stocked in the young defender department I was just interested in your thoughts and if we ever had an interest. He looks a good player already and played really well last night too.

Cheers,

Jolly Red

Congrats to Celtic tonight, but of your looking for a proper old school 1970's ugly good footballer then Forster has to be our next goalkeeper.

He's proper tommy smith hit every branch of the ugly tree on the way down sort of bloke, but what a prospect...man of match at both the nou camp and at home....let's get back to the days when our footballers where that ugly, the only thing they had going for them was their ability!

Marshy

Your pathetic grow up

Ooooh sorry,

And here's me thinking this was a banter page...wind yer neck in!

At least I'm old enough and supported the team long enough to know that that was the joke back in the day....

We got Suarez and we had kuyt

07 Nov 2012 22:38:19
Get ready for all the victor wanyama rumours... 25 million player Celtic say

Beats anything the epl has bar the big 3. He can hit the net unlike most of lfc strikers in the big moments.
Though there have not been any big moments for a long time. jmac

Posted tomorrows team earlier and like a few of my posts recently its not been shown, do you look at the IP address or name and choose not to show it because its from someone who dares to criticise or point out flaws in the perfect world of Liverpools saviours Fenway, or are some of you so sad you like to play god from behind your keyboards.

Waro

Now you've done it... you've spoke about the unspeakable

Your post looks to be posted on the Liverpool Teams page, right where it should be. Before you throw your toys out of the pram, probably best to check the page where it belongs. Just a suggestion.

Nick

07 Nov 2012 22:22:55
I swear if Joe cole starts the game tomorrow, or even comes on as a sub that's my tv out the window...

AsianRed

I posted the team earlier and cole is playing

Waro

Give him a break he waant fully fit last time and at least he tries unlike downing

Hounsred

Better get a new TV then! jdog

Agreed, waste of space. My 7 yr old son plays with more passion and he probably has a better first touch.

5 mil a year, oh my god what were the club thinking!

ChrisE

Or chuck the tv out now

Here is a thought , probably go right over your head though , how about supporting the team . i support liverpool with a passion , and anyone who pulls that shirt on gets my support , and untill he no longer is a liverpool player that is how it will be , IF he plays tonight and scores will you not be happy ? this is the trouble with our great club to many pathetic supporters , go and support chavski or rubbishty , hell even the mancs.............andy.

Must give one more chance.
If he does not take, then out in January

Eds.i personally think the Chelsea game Will make or break our season if we Lose 9points adrift of 4th too much ground to make up whats your opionon ynwa {Ed002's Note - There is plenty of time to get in better league position. This weekend is just one game.}

Man City were 10 pts off top with like 5 games left last season and look what happened there. Can't get too caught up with points gaps, they can swing so easily

07 Nov 2012 22:07:33
people on here cant have much football knowledge soon as they see a play have a half decent game on tv they instantly get linked with a move to liverpool what idiots

07 Nov 2012 20:09:15
Ed's any clue as to who we are looking at in Jan or the summer?

Lee73 {Ed002's Note - The summer no - January it is in the posts, look there.}

07 Nov 2012 18:32:50
i think ill take a slighlt different tack from everyone else asking are we interested in this player or that player and getting shot down by ed2........so here goes,who are we interested in ed2?....thanks pedro {Ed002's Note - Read the posts - we know a striker is needed and there is plenty of discussion about where the interest is right now.}

Hooper is one striker we have shown an interest in, my question is Roy wants to use him in England team! He is currently uncapped right? Getting a cap would potentially have a large impact on his transfer fee?

07 Nov 2012 17:27:15
Ed 02?

I am disgusted by the fans who threaten JWH etc they are bang out of order. I have doubts about them but do not violently oppose them.

I just want to ask in your opinion do FSG think, really think they can make LFC competitive at the highest level?

I just dont see their strategy delivering, not now not ever.
Do you think they are confident in their progress or are they starting to see football is a very very hard arena in which to succeed.

Would love to get your take on this. {Ed002's Note - I have expl;ained before I am supportive of them and think they are heading in the right direction.}

Totally agree with Ed002 here. This philosophy will work. It will just require patience from the supporters (something football supporters aren't great at).

~Fresh

I support them as well, but my one gripe (a huge one) is they have to be in the UK more with the club first hand. They should spend at least 3 months a year in the city of Liverpool and not become overseas owners taking advice from football yes people (Commoli etc). They have the right intentions, but a bit more of a human touch please for a club built on values and its people.

They employed Comolli and sacked him, they employed Kenny and sacked him. That shows poor judgement, okay they were new but they should take some flack either way.

They've employed Brendan Rodgers, i think it was a brave move when Rafa was waiting for the phone call. He has a record which is very good, especially in Europe and he has/d a lot of support, players/fans/coaches, as well as his critics.

So back to the drawing board. Rodgers looks to be managing on a ridiculously restricted budget and squad to compete with the top six, let alone top four.

I finally have to ask myself, why is Rodgers being given ''as much time as he needs'' as was quoted by John W Henry. When Kenny Dalglish and Comolli were not, after getting to two cup finals, winning one and bagging Europa with a very young squad, which only needed ''more time'' to become even better!?

Many multinational companies are run from far off countries. That's why they have installed 'capable' management in the UK to oversee day-to-day affairs and they can stay in the States and receive abuse by email instead of to their faces.

I don't support liverpool but surely you get the foundations built on the money side before then upgrading the team, there obviously isn't a bottomless wallet and they lumped in heavily on the useless dalglish

Pardoe

It dosent matter where they are as long as the club is winning things as a lot of supporters these days are fickle

07 Nov 2012 21:42:37
I remember one ed talking about Tony Watt. How good can he be? {Ed001's Note - top class mate, he has had offers from us and United in the past, he is a special talent.}

Yet Celtic only paid a hundred grand for him?

07 Nov 2012 21:25:56
lucky i put that tenner on Celtic to win eh.

Sooty

Well done! congrats.

Nice one sooty

07 Nov 2012 21:18:36
We'd do a lot worse then Fraser Forster. Seen him a few times and looks quality.

07 Nov 2012 18:22:20
Ed's would the fact Suarez has made a deadly partnership with Huntelaar in the past stand for anything as well as Babel and Kuyt both being Dutch? {Ed001's Note - I doubt it will make as much difference as the money on offer to him.}

07 Nov 2012 21:05:18
Not a rumour more of a christmas wish. Dear santa can we please, please have Willian in an LFC shirt in Jan or next season. I promise to be good and behave myself or at least try.

I wished for any decent striker, fingers crossed.

07 Nov 2012 20:09:29
Wanyama for Celtic looks some player...........

07 Nov 2012 19:30:39
Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Lucas
Alonso Mascherano
Gerrard Suarez
Torres

Look at what we could of had :(

We could have just as easily had degen, el zhar, poulson, babel, aquilani etc etc etc.

MIKEY

Enrique would ruin the team

Torres would ruin the team these days

07 Nov 2012 19:25:54
With at least 9 first team regulars withdrawn from tomorrow nights game it's clear BR priority is the league. BR did the same last week against Swansea in the cup but kopped for some right grief on here by some so called supporters.

Big game at the weekend coming up against Chelsea so BR has done the right thing again and saved our best 11 for the chavs...

So for gods sake if it goes tits up in Russia tomorrow lay off BR he's got no choice Suarez and co can't play every single game. Roll in Jan 1st 2013 reinforcements are on the way then watch us roll...

Curled1

Every game and every tournament should be taken seriously. Empty trophy cabinets are lonely places.

Red Owl

^ No! with the squad we have every game should be prioritised! Brendan has done the right thing!

07 Nov 2012 23:10:34
Yeah, and when we put in a tired performance against Chelsea at the weekend we'd all be delighted that we played a strong team in the Europa, right?

- Something Red -

07 Nov 2012 19:24:33
Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Lucas Allen
Gerrard
Suarez Sterling
Huntelaar

Subs,
Jones,Coates,Sahin,Henderson,Shelvey,Downing,Assaidi,Borini

Sorted. Huntelaar would get at least 15 goals from Jan to May in my eyes! He's a no brainer!

So we only going to buy one player then

07 Nov 2012 19:21:11
Eds, I've seen several posts regarding the Yesil transfer deal and I'm a bit confused. Is there some sort of a buyback clause on this deal for Leverkusen or is it simply a right of first refusal if we decided to sell?

~Fresh {Ed001's Note - they can buy him back, but he has to accept a move back, it is not as simple as they can just walk in and take him.}

For all those that are disagreeing with the team/original post, lfc transfer speculation on facebook are now agreeing on the exact team.

original poster here and i'm as shocked as anyone if true but like rodgers's versatility to adapt.

s.p

With that team we'll get stuffed, don't know why i
he's not taking it seriously it's the only trophy we can win.

That Facebook page gets all their info from this site. He just put your team selection up in the hope it was right so he could pretend to be in the know

Why not save on plane fair n leave cole at home

07 Nov 2012 19:13:50
Just sat down for a plate of pasta bake, garlic bread and a glass of coates du rhone, and wondered, what you having for your dinner tonight Ed? {Ed001's Note - show off. I have a value pizza *sighs*, how the other half live!}

LOL, not as glorious as it sounds, but just got the little red off to her bed and will sit and watch the hoops

Coates du rhone - is that a Uruguayan wine then?

Dont play carragher and coates toether . they are both slow as f*ck. and eto would kill them.

I have a gut feeling sama will start in place of Coates, or common as a sub.

Is it just me? Or is Theo Wallcott fairly rubbish.....why the sudden fascination?

07 Nov 2012 19:56:33
I think he is thoroughly average but is blessed with amazing speed which apparently makes him 10 times better than he actually is.

Jolly Red

He is pants appears for about 5 mins every game then does a lord lucan another cole noooooo we already got one

Hey folks, just thinking to myself and thought it would be an interesting question.

Can any one think of a team that made it to both the F.A cup final and the League cup final and didn't qualify for Champions League football by the end of the following season?

So much as we got to the final of both cups last season, if we don't finish in the top four by the end of this season, we will be the only team i can actually think of off the top of my swede.

Not having a dig, just interested. I'm ready for 80's and 70's answers but really interested since the birth of the Premier League and Champions League in the early 90's.

Cheers Reds and Ed's.

BoriniCanDoIt

Did Middlesbrough reach both cup finals one year but were also relegated? Does that answer you'd question?

Yeah Middlesbrough got relegated when the F.A deducted three points from them after failing to field a team against Blackburn Rovers.

07 Nov 2012 17:44:51
So much negativity on here as usual but met me say we have the best player in the Premiership in Luis Suarez. If he had a recognised striker partnering him he would be even better. He is a pleasure to watch and the most exciting player since Henry to play in the premiership. If we can stay in touch until January then we will have a chance for top 4 as Arsenal & Spuds are woeful.

Yes he needs reinforcements but BR doesn't play with two strikers so how is he going to get a strike partner, and to be honest Suarez would rather shoot from a ridiculous angle than pass to a partner

To be fair he does make a lot of these chances himself, not saying i don't agree with your post just saying i cant see it happening, more likely we will buy goal scoring wide men or a striker and push Suarez wide. very rarely will we see two up top

He passed to shelvey against newcastle. i like shelvey but i cant believe he shanked that chance. however someone like huntelaar wouldve tucked it away no problem.

Anyone else think that we should be taking the Europa league a lot more seriously that at the moment. It's a big trophy and winning it would be massive for us and this young team, but even if we just get to semis it's still European experience against big teams. We can gain a lot more from it than any league/fa cup run. Thoughts?

I dont disagree with you conceptually however we have Chelsea this weekend and the league takes priority over everything else right now, for mine. If we get out of the group then lets have a bit more of a look at the Europa but until then, let save our best for the EPL.

liverpool should sign cristian ansaladi

07 Nov 2012 17:31:53
U know the one thing more annoying than fantasy transfer rumours?

Its the ones that respond saying "maybe in FIFA" or "yeah messi and ronaldo are coming too"

You're just as bad if not worse!

07 Nov 2012 17:25:16
Best possible team vs. Chelsea.

Rodgers should spring a surprise by putting Stevie on the right in place of Suso. Gerrard's crossing ability from the right side, high up the pitch is second to none. He nearly always finds the striker from that position.

Glen Johnson is back from injury and tends to have a good game against Chelsea. He was man of the match in a past encounter after scoring the winner from a Charlie Adam long ball.

Shelvey should start ahead of Sahin provide more physical presence and forward running from deep.

Suso should start as the most advanced midfielder as his vision and distribution of through balls is excellent and with Gerrard, Sterling and Suarez to look for (top class movement off the ball) it should bring the best out of him and more importantly our goal scorers.

----------Reina---------
Johno-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique

-------Allen-Shelvey----
---------Suso----------

-Gerrard---------Sterling
--------Suarez---------

JTF Red

Would swap gerrard and sterling over if this is the team you want to play. let sterling/johnson put in the crosses onto gerrards head. plus would rather have gerrard cutting in on his right then sterling.

Dont know whether or not you will print my response to ed 001 comments which i found to be completely uncalled for having been a red for 55years i find that comments like "people like you" just about sums up the way resort to insults to quell free debate could understand if it had come from one of the juveniles on here but to berate me for reading Martin Samuels column i find is you trying to restrict people from freedom to read and to speak wonder when this was last heard of 1939 i think dont bother publishing this as i wont be viewing your site any longer as i prefer freedom to censorship as any true red would do {Ed001's Note - well then run along, I really don't care, no one is stopping you from going elsewhere, just like no one is making you come back and whine. Especially from posting repeated posts, anonymously, from the same IP whining about it. I don't want links to the fail, you had your warning, if you can't accept the rules of the site, then you are not going to be posting here, it is that simple. There is no such thing as 'free debate', otherwise we would be allowing scummy little turds who repeatedly try to post offensive things about Munich or Hillsborough, or Heysel all day long. If you have been a red for 55 years, then you have no excuse for posting up links from the fail and you should know better. End of.}

Your ment to be a Liverpool fan endorsing the vile piece of lard that goes by the name of Martin'Bluto'Samuel. Disgusting! JohnBoy

Is he comparing you to hitler there ed001?
And here was me thinking you where growing that thin moustache for movember. Haha

07 Nov 2012 17:05:31
A question for Ed001, I'm trying to be realistic about potential January targets. What are your thoughts on Hooper? Is he good enough and does he bring anything different then what Borini has shown in the past when playing centrally? {Ed001's Note - not in the slightest, he is lazy and offers nothing to a team that wants to play passing football. He is a better finisher than Borini, but it has to be laid on a plate for him and we don't play the right way to do that.}

Thanks for the reply Ed.

07 Nov 2012 16:59:21
Don't get this negativity surrounding Gerrard and this kak that he should be an impact sub. The reason he ain't bombing forward all the time ain't to preserve himself for the full game as some think, more he's had to adapt to a new role which requires a lot more discipline then he previously had.
I reckon that because of this change people are saying drop him. Get a grip, no one it's coming close to creating the chances he's creating. Gerrard is adapting like everyone else, he might'nt be the Istanbul or Cardiff version of himself, but he's still a top quality player who I'm glad we have.
JohnBoy

It's because he can't give 100% all game every game like he used to.
Using him as just an impact sub is a bit much, but I agree he needs to be dropped now and again.
He should be only starting when 100% fit and on form like any other player would.
Start him in half the games and impact sub in the others, it would do gerrard and Liverpool wonders.

MIKEY

At last someone with vision

Gerrard is being played in a deeper role by Rodgers and is being told not to go forward as often as he once did.

ITs that simple

He simply isnt the player he was sell now to mourino like he said himself he nows hes lost is pace and stamina it happens to everyone anyone who cant see it is living in the past

07 Nov 2012 16:56:26
Hi ed,
Have liverpool ever received bids for gerrard? What was the highest offer we ever received.
Thanks. {Ed019's Note - Yes, not sure on the fee. He nearly went to Chelsea}

Think it was just over 30 million at the time

Ack17

Fee was £30m and that was when he nearly joined Chelsea.

Gerrard subject to a 30M offer from Chelsea

There is an article on lfc.com that has gerrard saying jose came in for him again 2years age for real.

kumber

The following year they offered £32 million which Gerrard rejected through his agent, without the club even knowing about it.

Anyone else hope Ibe gets a few mins or is it just me? I've seen this lad play for the U18s And most recently the U21s, and he seems like the real deal, has equal or more quality than Sterling, when Sterling was his age. Hope an easy F.A cup draw sees him get some minutes.

AsianRed

We have to be careful with young players with expectation but I have to admit I'm excited at how good some of these lads are mr borell take a bow you are ace!
Paisley's genius

I hope hes allowed to develop properly in the youth set up and that people dont start getting carried away only to dismiss him after a couple of mistakes.

Agree, looked class when he came on against Wolves u-21

Agree with the Borrell comment, FSG should make his contract negotiations a priority. Next 1st team manager if/when required.

Don't see us getting into the Champions League for the next 3 or so years.
For now we should keeping blooding the youngsters and reduce our wage bill, minimize the losses and getting moving on Anfield redevelopment. Do that and we should be able to maintain a top 8/6 finish and lack of CL won't do much harm.

After that, we'll be good to go. I expect that our redeveloped 60k Anfield will be ready for the season 15/16, by which time many of our current youth will be satisfactorily to well primed.

Wisdom will be about 22/23; Coates 23; Robinson about 22; Shelvey 23; Suso 22; Sterling 20-ish; Yesil 20-ish as well; Ibe and Jerome 19-ish; Joao Texeira 20 summat-ish; Fabio 'bout 24.

As it is, Suso, Shelvey, Sterling, Wisdom, Coates and Robinson have been impressive. In three years' time they each would've racked up over 70 full PL games. Immense maturity and growth, physically, emotionally and in other many other respects.
I could see them having the exact same impact as the likes of Subotic, Goetze, Reus, Lewandowski are doing at BVB.

The ability of Yesil, Jerome and Sinclair has been such that they've had to be exponentially fast-tracked 2 or more levels, the first two have already eve featured for the first team.
So at 19, I can see them featuring heavily.

As for Borini, he's certainly a very talented young player. He's 21, an Italian international, has lots to learn and will, given time and support, go on to be an important player for Liverpool.

People have to realise that this is the way and only way forward for us. There's no sugar papa to throw ridiculous cash around (thankfully).
FSG certainly won't be doing so.

Anyone who has a gripe with this reality, tough rubbish. But hope isn't completely lost.
There's City and Chelsea, ye know, and they are looking precisely for folk like you. You may also want to try out PSG, Zenit or Anzhi.

The roadmap has been set out and it's pretty much carved in stone.
As for our detractors, well, I seem to remember Zorc and his folk's project at Westfalen meeting with the same derision as ours when they started. Who's having the last laugh now?

The funny thing, perhaps even stupid, is that, 4, 6 six from now when our project is well in full swing and bearing fruit, the same people who are now scoffing at us will be ones waxing lyrical about what a "great example" Liverpool is.
"Pundits" and "commentators" alike will comment/write about it as though it was unexpected, a bolt outta the blue.
It will be anything but a shock.

The foundations are being laid and works continue.
It's all in the script.
Stable ownership, supportive owners, bright, dynamic young manager, a youth programme of the finest world standard, exceptional young players coming thru, completion of a 60k redeveloped Anfield (at a time when our tadpoles would be primed to take on the world).
Looks promising enough to me.

To say I'm excited about watching this team in 4, 5 years' time be an understatement.
I've never been more ecstatic about anything in football.

Have to hang onto them though, I can see sterling moving south and Suso going back to Spain as hes a big real supporter. Yesil has a buyback clause as well so if he does well he will probably be going back to Bayer.

I was with you until you used the world 'project'...

1st replied: yes Yesil does have a buy-back clause but I'm sure it has many terms and conditions, for example a first option rather than a buy-back, don't think we'd buy him if there was a straightforward buy back.

AsianRed

'The ability of Yesil, Jerome and Sinclair'

...Jerome sinclair si so good he's actually two players?

If we don't get cl football for at least 3 yrs then expect a new manager before then.

That's probably great 4/5years into the
future but what are we going to do about
the here and now, what are we going to do about the PRESENT just curl - up and
die until 5 years down the line,wake-up
and smell the coffee we have to compete
if the OWNERS don't have the funds to
compete then they need to sell-up,the
top teams wont wait for our boys to turn
men...TIME WAITS FOR NO MAN.......

auntie annie.......

Arsenal did the exact same thing your saying liverpool should do now 7 or 8 years ago and they had a much better team and the best academy in england.if the team isnt winning things and jus competing for a top 6 place these so called "top players" liverpool have coming thrugh will move onto teams winning things.arsenal is a prime example of this.arsenals youth of 5-8 years ago was a lot better than the current crop coming through liverpool {Ed001's Note - Arsenal's youth was nothing like as good, their youth was, and still is, not as good as the hype has people believe. That is why they are struggling to win now, because they didn't have a good crop coming through. Actually, that is not fair, it was a good crop, but not quite as good as media hype would have people believe. It was certainly far from the best academy, it has lagged behind Southampton, Villa and City for a while.}

Liverpool linked with the following players:

Stewart Downing
Charlie Adam
Jordan Henderson
Andy Carroll
Jose Enrique

We will break the bank for them.

You heard it here first.

Mr Stuckina timewarp

Remember this name!

God, just looking at the list of names that Kenny was happy to sign make me gutted. How can you seriously say they could have pushed us on to challenge.

At the time they all seemed like good additions and I still think four out of the five have something to offer
NAVANRED

He didnt buy players to win the league he bought players to make us better than what we were... he just paid wayyyy too much

Bulk but those lads helped to get us in two finals in only one season, the league was poor, but it would have improved greatly over a second season had everything stayed as was with new players in here and there as well.

We played some very good football last season but the strikers couldn't conquer the wood work.

We've moved on, but i supported that team and cheered them on and they got a cup, which is more than some other teams have done in 4 years with better players on an individual basis for Liverpool, never mind a team like Arsenal that attracts quality only to lose it to other clubs that actually win trophies.

Kenny and his team won a trophy and i'm grateful and think more was coming had it been given more time.

Is there a big back log in posts again ed?
This one has taken a year to get posted.

Hi Eds good afternoon to you all

I see Gerrard is stlll holding a wish to play for jose.anyone up for a straight swap for ozil r alonso i would.Tommy Irish Red

Agree with you there In my opinion I think gerrard is angling for a move to madrid to see out his career (just my opinion) twice I've read that he loves the special one

Big red dan

He was asked in a twitter quiz what manager would he like to play under that he hasn't yet. He said mourinho. It wasn't a big deal but I really wouldn't mind letting him go there now if he wants.

Except he wouldn't get in their reserves, let along the 1st team. Not good enough for Liverpool but good enough for Real? Get a grip {Ed001's Note - Essien couldn't get in Chelsea's first team....}

07 Nov 2012 17:35:24
Didn't he say not so long ago that he has no intention of doing anything other than seeing out his playing days here?

If you think his legs are going and he's not the player he was that's fine. If you think we have we have better options in the squad (btw, we don't. At least not enough better options to drop him), that's fine.

But accusing him of angling for a move is ludicrous, imo.

Huntelaars representatives and his team have apparantly stated on with Keys and Grey that he would not consider Liverpool as they are not currently a 'European Address'.

Not sure how true this is but considering his age he may chase immediate champions league football opportunities. Personally I would ove to see Walcott.

REDditch

So Spurs is out too, then!

I'd be happy with anyone of

Walcott.
Llorente.
Huntelaar.
Sturridge. All have 6 months left on contract come January.

There is also Lucas Barrios ( in dispute with his club in China), and Zarate ( not wanted by his club).

All df these would cost lower fees than their valuations.

Jonesred

Was a german journo, not a rep

i think

I'd be happy with all of them bar Sturridge, he's too lazy IMO.

07 Nov 2012 13:17:49
Aparently Liverpool's top two targets for january are Huntelaar and Walcott, sturridge is less likely due to a stubborn chelsea unlikely to move much on a £20m pricetag, moving away from strikers to a less likely addition i have also heard Xabi Alonso is having difficulty getting a new contract with real and has been quoted as saying - "I love liverpool, steven is still a good friend i keep in contact with and i have congratulated him on his 600th liverpool game, he will always be a great player for the club and country, on the issue of me returning to liverpool, never say never" - perhaps indicating he wants to end his career back at anfield, he still considers himself a red and his son is a liverpool supporter, so you never know...........

We can only hope he does

Watched the highlights from the under 21's game against wolves on Monday and the spirit and togetherness between them is great. After Ngoo scored the 5th he ran to Rodolfo and high fived him though Rodolfo was more interested in telling everyone to get back into position. Hope we have Rodolfo for many years to come and a step up to the first team as reward for all his good work.

Pacheco looked good and hungry, Texeira scored on his U21 debut and looks quality, very similar to Suso from the little I saw. All round every one looked comfortable on the ball, goalkeeper Ward (?) had a few dodgy points and the most exciting who I have seen a few times for U18's as well is Jordan Ibe, I watched Sterling a lot in the last two years and I would say that Ibe looks to have more quality.

The kids are alright.

Hi Eds,
Can you influence BR and co that we should sign no more overrated British players. We have enough in squad already, with a few that need shipping out. Lets focus of technique and pace. Most of the British players have neither and LFC have regularly paid over the odds. Also British players hardly attract foreign interest therefore limiting their resale value. Man city have a bench load of expensive players as further proof.

Also I know this has been mentioned many times before but Keisuke Honda would be a long term replacement for Gerrard. Attacking midfielder, great goal scoring record, less than 2 years left on contract at CSKA. Seen him in the flesh play for Japan and he is pure class. Imagine him and Suarez together. Likelihood ?
Bean counter {Ed002's Note - Less likely as time moves on.}

07 Nov 2012 12:00:17
With Walcott keen to play for Liverpool. Could this be how we line up in January?
We would look like this defensively

.................................Reina
...Gerrard.........Skyrtel..........Agger.......Johnson.........
................................Lucas...................................
.Walcott........Sahin..................Allen...........Sterling...
.............................Suarez.....................................

And look more like this offensivly

................................Reina....................................
...............Skyrtel...................Agger........................
..............................Lucas.....................................
...Gerrard........Sahin................Allen.........Johnson.....
...............Walcott....Suarez...Sterling........................

Gerrard and Johnson would be really forceful coming forward and both can see a pass and know where the net is.
Would personally like to get Walcott and Huntellar as soon as? But would be more than happy if we just got Walcott in January with another Quality! addition in the summer.
kidmillions

Swap Walcott and Suarez round mate. Suarez is better coming in from wider positions, and Walcott is better down the centre. Not to mention putting Wisdom or Kelly right back instead of Gerrard. Gerrard should be an impact sub. I'd rather have 30 minutes of a dynamo, than 90 minutes of Gerrard preserving himself so he lasts the full 90. Agger for the Armband.

YNWA! (Adam)

Gerrard as a right back? Have I missed something here?!
Red Greco

For starters Sahin is a left sided centre mid. Then Walcott will not sign as Rodgers won't play him centrally unless Suarez is sold. Huntelaar is all paper talk unfortunately. As he is not a false 9. Rodgers will buy strikers that are quick, agile, and can play across the front 3 in a fluid attack. He will not divert from his vision

James S

Wallcott won't come to play on the wing mate. Swap him and suarez round.
Wallcott will be mostly used as a striker and Suarez as the right winger or a free role, it would suit both players and Liverpool.
Both players could switch positions to mix it up a little but Rodgers will have to play him mostly upfront as he will have to make a few promises to get him here.
This would be my team after jan,

------------reina------------
Glen--skrtle--agger--new LB
------------Lucas-----------
---gerrard--------Allen-----
Suarez----wallcott--sterling

I would like to see 3 players brought in: wallcott or another decent striker, a new left back and cover or competition for Lucas. however with a bit of luck we could probably just get away with just a new striker.

MIKEY

As Brendan has said Suarez is a false no9 and as such is not static and goes at defences from left, right and centre it would be up to Walcott and Sterling to interchange with him in a mobile front 3
kidmillions

Gerrard hasnt got the pace to play right back
LeeWils

If Suarez contiues playing like he its now their is now way I'd restrict him to the right or left were he'd have more defensive duties then is like to see him have. He's really growing into the false nine role and it'd have to be a real top dog that we've no chance of getting like Higuin for him to swap. Walcott, although I'd welcome him with own arms isn't the guy too solve our goal scoring problems. I reckon that playing him on a flank with the ability to drift would see him take the burden of Suarez a bit and really help with our conversion rate. No way could you play Walcott as the main guy, if it didn't work out everyone will still be asking why we didn't by a goal scorer.

07 Nov 2012 11:32:43
Here is some food for thought :
Everyone is expecting walcott to be on BR's list but my question to everyone promoting

this is what makes you feel that BR will change his formation to 4-4-2 as i cant see him

replacing Suarez with walcot for the only CF position in the current formation. Walcot has

openly stated his desire to play in the CF position and also that he wants more money but

honestly i dont see him leaving a champions league club for LFC (Though he may be a

childhood supporter).
Then there is the Huntelaar situation, Schalke are in champions league and they are at the

top of their group so what makes you feel that the schalke manager wont be able to

convince him to stay and he dreaming about playing in the quarters or semis. So people

please stop quoting huntelar for 9m and walcot for 10m please lets be logical.
Jackson martinez for 18m is also uncatchable for me do you see FSG spending that much and

moreover porto letting their main man go?
Llorente will go to Juventus i feel, He'll be their long term Ibra replacement.
The only transfer i feel a little bit possible is Ba.
I am also aware "Anything is possible in football" so dont start a backlash on me just

trying to be reallistic and logicall though i love to see all of them at my beloved LFC.
REDistani....YNWA

Hunterlaar & Walcott both have 6 months remaining on there contracts should they choose not to stay, so the prices being floated around of £9m & £10m are very realistic. I would love us to get them both but i don't see it happening, and i wouldn't want Ba id rather use Ngoo, Yesil or Morgan.

BigD

Not sure if hunterlaar would want to come liverpool after the spurs thing! Thought it was a wind up at first, so if we do go for him let's hope spurs don't enter the race!!

Ibras long term replacement?? He hasnt played for Juventus for over 6 years lad.

Spurs are bound to go for him if we do n they will probably get him while ayres just shruggs his shoulders n says it wasnt to be

Interesting that yesterday Alonso tweeted the following:

"I will tell Mo (Mourinho) to consider you and at the same time hopefully we can increase the level in the dressing room."

The yesterday Alonso praised Gerrard as one of the greatest of all time...

Now today Gerrard is praising Alonso!

Also Gerrard is praising Mourinho saying he'd love to play under him:

"I would like to play for Mourinho, the Special One" - Steven Gerrard.

"I look at some players who get interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona and they cause absolute wars to get out and get there. But that has never been me and, again, it just wasn't going to happen." - Steven Gerrard.

This actually has me thinking, what if Gerrard wanted to leave? He's 32 now, if Real offered £30m for him Liverpool would have to consider it IMO.
I'm not saying he wants to leave (and in the same interview he basically said he never wants to leave Liverpool) but what if the owners have other ideas??
Would we survive without Gerrard?
Yes IMO...
Lets face it, he only has a couple of years left in his career, (3 years at best) if that £30m was spent to get Christian Eriksen and a striker that'd be good business IMO.

If Gerrard has ambitions about playing under Mourinho i think its fair to say he's done everything possible for Liverpool over his career and has served this club to the best of his ability then he should be allowed to leave.

I know this will probably upset a few people but think about it, one day we'll have to face life without Steven Gerrard.

Rocky

Seriously 30 M for Gerrard ? for a guy who is past his prime. You wont even get 10m for him

I follow Xavi and nowhere does it say this at least in English, pls post a link ?

If real offered £30m for gerrard i'd snatch there hand off,to be honest we'd be lucky to get £10-15m for him

Alonso was meant to tweet a personal message to Llorente, but instead posted it to everyone by mistake. He quickly deleted it.

Id let gerrard leave for £10 mill, more than enough for him at mo and we have enough quality mids anyway

I agree Gerrard isn't worth £30m at his age but think about it, would Liverpool even think about letting him go for for less than £10m as you suggest? No they wouldn't, that was my point, FSG would consider a big fee for him and Mourinho wants Gerrard at Real Madrid big time so if they offered near enough £30m I think the club would really consider it and let Gerrard leave if that's what all partys want.

That's just my opinion, I think the club would survive without Gerrard honestly, he's had a great career at Liverpool, maybe this is the end for him

Tottenham and Liverpool and multiple other clubs have both spoken to Klass Jan Huntelaars agent and Schalke about a possible move. Both English teams are willing to pay upto £10 million to sign the Dutch forward. Huntelaar favors a move to Liverpool so that he can rejoin former teammate Luis Suarez but Tottenham are going all out to sign last years Bundesliga top scorer.

RedSpud

The problem with this rumour being that Schalke have just offered him an obscene weekly wage that probably only two or three premiership teams could match and none of those are Tottenham or Liverpool.

Complete opposite he actually favours a move to spurs! His already been told to go their by his best mate vdv

Liverpool have been quoted as saying they will significantly increase his wage budget to encourage him to the club, possibly funded from joe cole leaving, also huntelaar has said he would like to come if andy carrol leaves or stays out on loan

I just got football manager 13 and went in managing Liverpool and the team is awful, plus I start with a £3million transfer budget!! Looks like I won't be signing Messi, Ronaldo or Cavani anytime soon either.

Haha! I am doing the exact same thing. Trying to flog Henderson, Downing and Joe Cole at the moment. Downing looks to be going to Fulham for 9m.

It's really tough.

I took in Muniain, 'cause he's one of the few players that are available for a 48-months payment. It's one hell of a payment though! Really hope the kid manages to get me 4th...

Call Carroll back from loan and sell the poor geezer off. raise some funds and get on some free agents. then get yourself to January and sign some pre-contracts. The world is your oyster.

Get Isco from Malaga for £17.5m over 48 months, minimum fee release clause ... not enought for forth, but gives you a better options for AMC and AML.

Dzagoev is available on a free in January... Sign him up. Play Sterling on wing against poor teams, play Johnson as a defensive winger in front of Kelly for the rest. I'm currently 2nd behind City with 8 games left!

Was any one else devastated at how low the game rated most of our youngsters?

The low rates youngsters that shocked me were Suso, McLoughlin, Wisdom and Sterling. Their stats are also awful!
Also, Joe Allen's price is £5million and his passing is 15, he is clearly 18+ for passing. Oh well, I'm going to win the league and Europa anyway :p playing the Liverpool way and just dominated Dundee Utd with 78% possession haha

If you tell the board you can mount a Title Challenge, you'll get an extra million or in transfer budget, and more to the point a £1.6m wage budget when the club's wage bill in game is about £1.4m. And you can offload Doni & Joe Cole to cut it further.

You can use a bit of the excess wage budget to boost your transfer budget to £10m.

And I'm top of the league at the start of December having only signed one player (Kevin Doyle). If only real footy was that simple.

At least you could in the BETA anyway. I haven't started a new game since the retail patch was applied, so that might have changed things.

1st of all...No one knows why Andy Carroll has been sent on loan....this is similar to the situation LFC lost Title by just 4 points when Robbie Keane was sold and we ended up with just 1 striker Torres.

Just my thoughts LFC been employer should have asked Genuine reasons from Brendon Rogers for letting Andy Carrol go.

Andy Carroll scored in Cup Final, he was infact showing quality towards end of season. But anyways Manager must have his own reasons, but to be fair Andy Carroll should have atleast be kept until Jan 2013.

Another thing being a Manager you are to prove your worth by playing the players available to You, develop your strategies around these players. Rodgers has just won one play-off Final he cant be so demanding at the very first season. Its ok you need new signings but You cant just let some players go.

Moving on, LFC needs a Striker and a Winger(right) so these are some in my opinion...

Striker -
Loic Remy
Martin Harnik
Ricky van Wolfswinkel

Winger -
Dries Mertens
Iker Muniain
Diego Perotti

Valentin Stocker (May Be)

And definitly Liverpool can atleast cough up some big money to sign 2 experienced world class players and definitly let go of Joe Cole and either of Downing or Henderson.

None of the above

It's because he's plop

We didn't just have Torres!! We had Babel, Voronin, Ngog, & Kuyt

please stop with the huntelaar rumours. We are not going to spend on a 29 year old. Source: John Henry explaining why we didn't buy Dempsey. Don't get your hopes up, Liverpool will buy another kid and we will (hopefully) be competitive after 2-4 years.

I read somewhere that Gerrard scored 1 goal in his first two years, so what do you expect from Sterling/Suso etc?

Been following this site for a while now an about 18 months ago I said that Gerard is getting on and can't put as much into a game simply because he carried us for years.
But I mentioned he can play the holding role and would be the best in the world.i was slated!but I stand by it we would get another 3 years out of him with his pin point passing an vision + he would still be one of the best in the world at this position.

The problem is SG hyper-extends in a tackle which in all honesty is likely to mean a more defensive role will bring more injuries rather than less

07 Nov 2012 03:16:25
we will sign 3 players

Jackson Martinez - £17m, (using the money we will get from the sale of carroll in the summer)

Theo Walcott - £8m

Christian Eriksen - £20m

we will sell Downing, Henderson, Cole and Pacheco and will look recoup £20m

This will mean that we will not be spending more than we sell in the summer.

a CB Cover and a DM cover will be the focus so only squad players in the summer.

Victor Waynama might be looked at as he can play in both positions comfortably and at a very high standard. he would cost around £8-14m

which means that we will be about £5-11m under budget.

Eriksen is one of the most exciting talents in Europe. Why on Earth would he come to Liverpool?

How do you know our budget?

Wasn't Suarez a bright young talent aswell? Where did he end up again? Liverpool actually get most of the best young talent the last few years, Suso, Sterling, Teixeira, Jordan Ibe, Yesil all linked with "bigger" clubs but chose Liverpool cos our Academy is one of the best in the best in world football, even Pep Guardiola praised the club last year for the Academy!!

Should Everyone Aspire To Play Like Barcelona?
Paul Little argues that Liverpool fans would be better off giving time to Brendan Rodgers because he is trying to emulate Barcelona with his approach. That, in a nutshell, is what should not be encouraged. There is no doubt that Barcelona have been the most successful club in the past five years. But why should the fans want every club to behave and play like that? Why should managers have to give up the style that has suited them for so long and start asking their players to pass it around a wee bit more.

Are we now looking at Man United replacing Fergie with a manager who can drill tiki-taka into the likes of Valencia and Nani? They have been the most successful club in England over the last few years. And with their style of direct wing play.

Have we now decided that wing play or route one down the middle is 'the old fashioned way' and every club must sign on for this wonderful passing carousel approach? I don't think Ronaldo and co at Real Madrid are anywhere close to this. And they are the current La Liga Champions mind you.

There is no doubt Barca have been devastating with their style of play. Spain have done the same at an international level. But if all clubs were to now start trying to play that way - I know John Nicholson would probably shoot himself for sure.

I know there will be counter arguments saying that Brendan Rodgers is giving youth a chance etc. My point is that you can bleed young players in the same style that you have been successful at rather than have to bleed them in the tiki-taka way. If Raheem Sterling is a winger and is lightning quick, then why not utilise his direct approach and build the team in that manner. Why encourage him to pass 4 times and then run at a defender?

I agree Rodgers' style is very similar and he was pretty effective at Swansea. But do Liverpool now need to start copying other clubs' approach in a bid to be successful again? Swansea have had a youth set up which was coached in that manner. Liverpool have had an equally good youth setup. Why not utilise the players' talents for what they are rather than use the manager's approach and try and mould every player for an unfamiliar role?

Forget the name of 'tiki taka', as we have always played this style. We invented pass and move. We are just reverting back to our old style.

07 Nov 2012 11:46:46
nothing wrong with the style but i like to think he knows he will need to add the guts of english style to hopefully suceed to the joy of all of us

Guts of the english stlye? Ye because england are always winning things...

We passed teams to death in the late 70's 80's & maintained possession the press called us negative (as we won another European cup) & barca beat man I in rome battered them at wembley & not forgetting atletico Bilbao footballed them off the pitch home & away, the English obsession with firing crosses at a big target man is antiquated & as the previous poster correctly stated it has been unsuccessful...
Paisley's genius

Tiki Taka is just a foreign dialect meaning pass and move! which is the way we played back then and today! Even though the end product is'nt always there! i:e goal's!The football we are playing is pleasing on the eye! but one of my concern's is that 9 time's out of 10 we really over play an attacking move!

The idea is not just built around the style of football played but the culture and structure of the club. That is, to buy the best players young and develop from within as much as possible with teams at all levels following and training towards same system as the first team. This comes from Ajax and onto Barcelona and more recently Dortmund. The fact that it is possession based is the specifics. As for whether Liverpool "need to start copying other clubs", you could look at it as learning and developing rather than copying but we do need to change what we have done structure wise over the last 20 years as that is what has put us in the position we are in today.

Here is my ten cents on Steven Garrard:

Gerrard: Probably the greatest player to ever pull on a Liverpool shirt. Up there with K. Dalglish but plays a very different role.

The Gerrard Role: LFC now talk about the Gerrard Role! This is
probably his greatest legacy. He invented another center midfield role. Whos going to fill the Gerrard role? Shelvey? Henderson? But there is a new place in football named specifically after Steven Gerrard. This is why he is a legend.

So what is the Gerrard Role? Dynamic Midfield! He was box-to-box all game. Attack goal, arrive late in the box, get back, defend, tackle back, Rebuild, long pass. He has everything. The Gerrard role is the most complete footballer there has ever been. Gerrard invented the modern game. The Gerrard role is and extra 0.5 man on the field. Liverpool played 11.5 men when Garrard was in the Gerrard role.

The problem: Dragon's live for ever, but footballers don't. Gerrard is 32, has had a lot of injuries and cannot, ironically himself play the ''Gerrard Role'' anymore.

BUT! He is still a GREAT player. Now he either has to play defensive midfield or attact midfield. He cannot play both. He has had to reinvent his game. Typically, we see him not as captain, in a defensive role, using the long pass, tackling back. But he is not the same player. I could see him in some kind of Maldini role, dictating the pase of the play. I my self would like to see him used up front with Suarez, to make up for the lack of cretivity up front.

The point: Gerrard, cannot play the Gerrard role anymore, but can be hugely influencial on the game and still has a lot to offer Liverpool if we use him wisely.

One day, there will be a Statue of S.G outside Anfield that I can show to my Grand kids.

hi eds i asked months ago about siem de jong and was given an answer that werent sure if he would be a good signing but he looked sharp tonight could liverpool be interested? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea if Liverpool have decided tonight to move for him.}

De Jong looked good on Match of the Day but I think BR would like to see his Fifa 12 stats first before buying him. Nailed on.

Hi eds, just wondering what the situation with Neil Taylor is? I know he has that nasty injury but since it looks like Enrique won't ever capture that early form (shame because for all the defensive errors you do see some glimpses of a good LB, a solid young well rounded left back who knows the Rodgers system and who defends as well as he attacks would be great to strengthen the team.
Priority is strikers still and I don't think anyone will disagree but LB, our bogey position since Riise left imo, definatley needs looking into.

Johnson has been quality on the left up until his injury problem, even though he's a right back. He's become a key outlet for attack there.

Kelly is more than solid on the right when fit to free Johnson up. Wisdom is looking steady and Robinson is coming along very well in my opinion and might be the answer in time.

I don't think Rodgers should be looking at moving Downing to left back, i think Rodgers needs to get Downing to shoot from the right position a bit more, because as we've seen he can hit the ball quite well and when he's in form he can win us matches.

He's not as bad as people make out, he was one of the few who turned up against Cardiff and got MoM in the Cup win. Was never worth £18+ million but he's here, until Jan at least and we're thread bare up front, make better use of a seasoned Prem player.

And do you believe top 4 is do able this season?
Please post and respond {Ed002's Note - Goetze has been answered. I do not think top four will happen this year.}

Ed2 mate not only thise year FSG Should forget top4 for another 2 years and that's minimum not maximum {Ed002's Note - To be fair I said I expect that Liverpool will be challenging for the the European spots this year, but probably not the CL - and I still think that is true.}
