i was just looking through the sites and thought i would make a comment if you dont mind.although i dont want kk to be to successfull(after all i want the gunners to finish above the pool)i wish him luck,but i think it was a mistake to make him manager,(old flames should be left in the past and thought of fondly) firstly,he made the mistake in the EL last season against braga by sending the team out in the away game for a draw,it was one of the worst performances from a l,pool team in years,unfortunatly in kennys first incarnation that was the done thing in europe (a draw away from home) but in recent years you have to go for the win cause all teams are good in europe home and away and nothing is garanteed at home, shame cause i fancied the pool to win the the EL.i also think he wants to go back to the past with a team with a backbone of british players.now im all for that,problem is there isnt that many top notch british players and the ones that are for sale command huge transfer fee,s.take the young lad henderson e.g.not a bad wee player but 15-17 million is a lot of money for possible potential? if he was french or spanish prob 3-5 mil would have got him.now i know you got a big windfall (torres ect)but no money is buck-she money as they say and apart from saurez most of his signings are looking quite ordinary and in 3 seasons from now because of KD big spend i suspect there will be less cash in the transfer kitty than they,re would have been especially if several of his signings havnt worked out.which brings me to big andy,this is almost the same senario as rafa buying aqualani.torres was sold and you needed a striker pronto as you were short,so KK buys an injured striker who will be out 2-3 months,now fair enough saurez came in, but he needed time to adopt but 35 mil for an injured unproven striker?it pains me to say it but if you had of approached my team with that sort of money they prob would have sold you RVP.i think KKs ideas are from a different time and are not relavant today im sorry to say.i know some of you will F and blind at me and tell me to F off back to my own page but somtimes things are better seen from afar.
trev the gooner

You'd better get Graham back then as the last time we played, you leaked 2 goals.
Sorry Goon, nonsense post, but thanks for showing more interest in our team we do in yours.
Oh and let's hope you continue this run otherwise you'll be calling for Wengers head again.

Wenger is 62 yrs old mate.
Dalglish is 60.
It was only 3 x weeks ago all I was hearing was "Sack Wenger", "We'll never win anything under Wenger" blah blah blah.
So I've got a message from afar for you too - look after yourselves.
The Real KB

Don't forget Comolli plays a huge part in transfers as well as a board who have to ratify the decision based on specific criteria begin met.

Hey lads, don't jump down the guys throat- he's just giving an outsider's view of KKs performance and decisions, and without any malice that I can see.

He has a point in that KK does seem to prefer British players, but I think we all disagree with the poster about KKs ideas being old fashioned, and in fact our performances say otherwise (even if not the goals tally so far)- including the performance against the Gunners when we came away 2-0 winners.

Personally I think we should welcome it when other supporters come and give their views in a polite and reasoned way, and we can explain why they are wrong!

hi eds a question please not about lfc but about the site I seem to have to scroll left and right to be able to read the whole sentence, so the sentences are not compact as they used to be , where is the problem ? thanks.
hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - have you altered your screen resolution?}

Same for me ed. Think the problem is at your end.
kopfiend 1978 ynwa {Ed001's Note - ok will have it looked at.}

Ed, i'm having a few problems with the site today too mate. There seems to be a few positive posts, could you check this out mate, it could spread.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - I am sure that must be a problem at your end Blair, I don't seem to read many this end!}

I also noticed Ed, everytime we get a negative result. Not only do our players and managers get roasted, some fans vent their anger at you Eds.

Why do you Eds, put up with it? You've got my number mate, but I don't come cheap.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - I just find it sad, I am just glad my daughter is more mature than they are, but then she is 10....}

Ed001, kids are amazing, earlier this year i was gonna throw away my shirt with torres on the back, 11 year old says, just wear it at work under your overalls, because its whats on front thats important, not the name on the back,needless to say it was take away of her choice for dinner that night.So fellow Reds, the names come and go ( Alonso, Torres, Masch) but that crest on the front will remain, love it, support it, win lose or draw. Things are not going to plan at the moment but that will change and when it does look out EPL.

West Aussie Red. {Ed001's Note - I never get names on the back of my shirt, never have been a fan of doing that. Only one I have with a name on is purely because it was given to me, and that one I do treasure. Your 11 year old is right though, it is all about the Liver Bird on your chest, the Hillsborough Flames and the Shankly Gates, not the name on the back.}

Only thing I do is put my name on the back or put Gerrard or Carra on the back purely because they have been here there whole careers and will finish them with us. True modern day legends, can't say that much any more. I think it harsh to lump Alonso in with Masch and Torres, he conducted himself truley proffessionaly and still watches matches and loves the club. I for one would be more than happy to have his name on my back.
KiwiRed

I've only ever owned two replica shirts, and that was when I was a kid and playing football at school or out with mates. I'd never buy a replica shirt unless I played in it. What's the point otherwise ? It's like people wandering around the towns in the Lake District in full Winter Mountain clothing designed for an altitude of 5000 metres. Lol. Just my personal opinion. But I find it funny to see grown men sitting in the stand wearing a football shirt. Put the full strip on, I say.

do you not think that hendo should really be playing alongside lucas in the midfield so adam can push into a more attacking role, surely with the athletism of jordan our defense would be far less exposed and adam would have more freedom for attacking rather than being stuck in his own half all game

Have you ever seen Henderson try and tackle- he would make Aquilani look like Graeme Souness

My mate reckons that Carrol is less of a threat than Titi Camara was.
I then pointed out to him that Everton are in a relegation zone with no money and more problems than ever and they needed someone like Sean Dundee in the team to make the numbers up.
He shut his mouth.

I'll always remember Titi Camara with fondness though.

Ash

Lol.
Weren't you old enough to give him gyp back then Ash ?
The Real KB

No KB, because he gave his all, had flair and was unpredictable.

Ash

So..you never judged him after 11 x games..?
The Real KB

Ash,
So you like unpredictable but your not happy with our team at the moment? We're about as unpredictable as it gets!

KB - be fair i reckon he gave him at least 12

Andy C

Maybe your memory doesn't go back far enough KB but Camara actually hit the ground running when he joined. Andy, I hope you remember my name at the end of the season when all has turned out how I predicted, along with an apology.

Eds - is there any chance of us selling maxi or Kuyt in January? Anyone else that could be sold? Saw a rumour that inter want Agger.
Cheers. {Ed002's Note - There must be a chance that Maxi will leave. I doubt that Kuyt will leave until the summer. I don't know that there are any planned departures.}

I think we should give Maxi a chance, I mean at the end of last season he was popping them in. Isn't that what we need now, someone who can score goals!

HK

LFC always make mistakes .. and not playing maxi is one of them not even as a 3rd sub we only use 2 :S

Ok I have now calmed down after the swansea game and wish to retract my comment about having lost faith in Kenny, however I do feel that the team and staff have become slightly complacent in recent weeks and there seems to be a sense that any game now we are gonna bang 5 goals in against some team coming from the players. We have 2 very tough games coming up in the league with a real chance that we mite not pick up any points in them. Im hoping that over the next 2 wks we see less of downing and adam on lfc.tv telling us what there gonna do and we see more fight and effort on the pitch. Here is to hoping that the players start to walk the walk.

Adam Johnson is way over-rated, especially from fans on here...People seem to think he'll solve the problems we have out wide, but the question is - What would he offer out there that Kuyt doesn't?

He'd be a huge waste of money in my opinion, If he was anywhere as good as half the fans on here make him out to be, then why isn't he a starter at city?

Sure, they have Silva, Nasri et al, but the fact is if we are to compete with the likes City then we should be looking at employing the SAME type of quality in those same positions and NOT taking thier deadwood scraps...City and Mancini see he is surplus to requirements and obviously not good enough to be in a top team, Why should Liverpool Expect/Accept any difference? Not only as perspective, but also, in terms of QUALITY!!

BobsWorkshop

We simply can't compete with City off the pitch. We need to compete with them on the pitch, though. Although that looks pretty daunting (on current form), 11 big names doesn't always make a successful side. At the moment, though, City look to have got the right balance between the two.

I can only disagree with you wholeheartedly about Johnson. I think the bloke is potentially a superstar and I would love him at our club. Unfortunately I think Mancini is realising just how good he could be and I dont see him moving anywhere

Chris in Tamworth

Johnson overated. Kuyt just as good in wide positions. Your off your rocker mate or you clearly know nothing about football.
kopfiend 1978 ynwa

I would play kuyt as a forward only and sign johnson for the wing , you could have both............lfc

Kopfiend 1978 ynwa

Sure Kuyt is just as good as Johnson, he'll certainly bag more goals and work harder for the team, but Johnson will surely put more and better crosses into the box, but i'd prefer Dirks goals!

Surely people have blinders on if they think A Johnson is good enough for The Pool?

Our problems with purchases this year is because of paying over inflated prices - for overated players. The exceptions (FOR ME) are Coates and Hendo...We shouldn't waste anymore money for "second best players"!

"At Anfield we don't accept Second best", a famous line from Dalglish...and he's s**tting on his own doorstep if you ask me, lol.

Point is Johnson can't even make the bloody England team, not even ahead of Downing, and let's be honest (I'm behind him), he's been nothing short of poor in 8-9 of our 11 EPL matches...Why the need to waste money on average players, when we could by quality for a small fraction more?

That's an opinion - not Trivial Pursuit.

"You know nothing abot football", and you're an idiot!

BobWorkshop

To Chris In Tamworth,

Don't get me wrong, the bloke would have my full support (Constructive Criticism lol) if he joined, but I don't think he'll ever be at that level you think he'll be...but who knows?

At the moment though (imo), he's not good enough.

Johnson gets less time on the pitch then downing but has goals

Read that Adam Johnson just signed a new 5 year deal, even though those contracts seem to be broken all the time, I would imagine the 'buy-out' price would be substantially more than 18m now, thus not a viable option.

What can Johnson offer that kuyt can't? Err pace, the ability to take the ball past a player, he can cross a ball and can score goals from more than 7 yards out.

Apart from that your right. Why would we want to improve our squad with a player that would walk into any team in the prem apart from city?

Hi Ed, ive just had a read through the pages and have realised 'silly season' rumour wise is back with us! Good luck with daft comments from some and from us all keep up the good work
LeeWils {Ed001's Note - does silly season ever go away?}

Probably not but it seems november hits and it gets worse
LeeWils {Ed001's Note - the closer it gets to the transfer window the worse it gets *sighs*}

I feel for you Ed. Just ignore the muppets is the best way to deal with it.

People on here saying wwe are the worst pass &move team.
How can we be when we've created the most chances in the league?
Some people just try to find anything to moan about.
Need any headache pills Eds? really feel sorry for the drivel you must put up with.

KT! {Ed001's Note - they just read a few newspapers and believe the lies fed to them by the media.}

To be honest if i want news about Liverpool i go to the official website i dont think we get a fair go off any of the media

right, i've had 48hrs to analyse our game agaist swansea and got a few things on my mind which i need to say.

as the great man Shanks once said " if you can't support us we we lose or draw, don't support us when we win"

first off, I am fully behind the team and club. having been a supporter of over 25yrs, i fully supported the appointment of KK and DC. after rafa went (which was a big mistake imo down to imcompetent owners and management purslow)
for pride to be restored we needed a name such as KK to bring us all together, like rafa had prior to Roy.

right now, we're all gutted about sat's result, a game we all expected to win. same goes for norwich. we have no divine right but on paper most people would agree that our squad is/was better than theirs. we should in all fairness be 4 points better off. plus add the sunderland and stoke too games and it makes you wonder.

what impressed me about both these teams was something that we've sadly been lacking...Desire.

in the norwich game we played well and should have put the chances away. is that KK's fault? no, its down to poor individual ability at that moment. they shud have buried them long before they got back into it.

in the swansea game though i noticed a serious apprenhension throughout the team and i could see why, so maybe the players could too?

the only thing that looked anywhere near solid was the defence, but even that nearly got breached, again down to the problem i think is the issue.

the problem i'm referring to is the formation.

to me it clearly looks like KK is picking 4-4-2 to accommodate Carroll, and then trying to work everything around him and his 'style'. and after last sat if it wasn't clear to him before it should be now. and 4-4-2 exposes lucas as adam cannot chase back thereby exposing defence. norwich, swansea and spurs have all exploited this to great effect.

if i could take you back to 2nd half of last season and the fulham game in particular. that is by far the best footy we've seen under KK since he came back.

why? because it was pass and move at its best, not getting adam, downing et all to launch it into the box. it doesn't suit our players.

we played 4-2-3-1 that day, had lucas and spearo as the holders with maxi raul and kuyt behind luis. we ripped them apart with the fluidity and movement of the players, it was beautiful to watch. granted fulham weren't at their best but even so it was dream footy.
all this with no carroll in sight. we also did this in other games too again with no carroll with the nearest to it being kuyt. the fluid movement of pass and move evident to see in 4-2-3-1 as it's the perfect balance between defence and attack.

i was thinking WOW this is awesome, looking forward to next year. then when KK added downing, hendo, adam and enrique to the team i really thought - here we go.

then raul (one of our better players last term) gets sold for whatever reason (can't tackle? watch the chelsea games- been playing really well) and i've got to say i have been left a little underwhelmed. not by the signings but the style.

yes there have been high points (arsenal, mapoo) and we've had fits of play in other games, but in both of those games we played 4-2-3-1. to me its the perfect formation with the players we have.

again i'll say we have no divine right to anything and i don't have high expectations like many but one thing i expect is a desire to play & fight for the red shirt and to me its missing in some of them.

that IS down to the manager. he chooses, buys, picks the players to perform. at the moment there are only 5-6 players showing a real desire in matches or wanting to make the diff. IMO they are: enrique, skrtel, suarez, agger, reina and lucas.

overall we are in a better position than last year but until KK drops this obsession of 4-4-2, playing players out of position (hendo) and plays the players for the formation and not the formation for the player, we won't succeed. best current team with 4-2-3-1

reina;
johnson, agger, skrtel, enrique;
lucas, adam;
bellamy, stevie downing;
suarez

alternative

reina;
kelly, carra, agger, enrique;
lucas adam;
bellamy, hendo, maxi;
kuyt

finally not carroll bashing as i would like him to succeed as can't be easy with the price tag etc, but the miss told me alot about the player.

and i think it will tell KK too. maybe he's doing the old arm round should trick and to most it works but on AC it's not. and at some point he will have to make a decision as no player is bigger than the club (beardsley, rush) regardless of fee paid. if that's a loss so be it. plenty of you have slagged rafa off but he made plenty of good buys too. KK is human and can make mistakes too.

two requests to KK...buy a right winger and a finisher a la owen/fowler/FT in Jan window.
(johnson could also operate on RW but prob wont want to jeopardise his england place)

then i think we can really push on in new year for the top 4.

ynwa

sinner21

You were doing well until you refered to Raul as 'one of our better players last term'. He had a handful of good games. Most of the time he was anonymous, didn't like being tackeled and couldn't tackle.

He could pass forward though and ACCURATELY, an ability we seem to lack consistently

Raul Meireles was one of our better players last season, just because he has left shouldn't mean he is now crap. {Ed001's Note - most of the season he was being whined at for being useless on here, he had a run of good games, but most of the season he was not playing all that well in my opinion.}

I haven't posted in a while,but I am amazed by the negativity that as arisen of late,towards Kenny and the team. I have been to most of our games this season and the only thing lacking as been a bit of luck in front of goal. Carroll trying to smash it into the net instead of passing it into the net just shows a lack of experience.I totally believe if that goes in, then we go on to win the game comfortably.You must give credit to the opposititon and their goalkeepers, who have made fantastic stops, to save certain defeats.We are not the finished article,but the football is much better than last season.The right side still needs addressing I don't like Downing switching all the time.If they are going to do that, then surely Adam going left and Hendo moving inside would be better than moving Hendo out left.Kenny will get it right. I am not expecting overnight success like some fans on here, get behind the team lads.

Jiminy Cricket

"A lack of experience" not knowing how to put the ball in the net?
He's 23 in a couple of months and a full international! Maybe a lack of confidence but if he doen't know how to score a goal now, he never will.
I really hope I'm wrong but I don't think Carroll is going to make it at Liverpool. He just doesn't look like a top class player, on what I've seen so far.

07 Nov 2011 19:06:46
I know that people generally site age when it comes to the Reds signing policy, but I think the Bellamy deal showed that the board is not opposed to older players that fill gaps in the squad. Would it be possible that the Reds would drop a small fee for an older striker who can still get in the right spots and finish? Perhaps someone like Di Natale, Ivica Olic, or Ruud (just some example that come to mind, I know of no official or unofficial interest in these specific players).

07 Nov 2011 19:05:02
In reality we are still a long way off Gerrard, Alonso and Monster Masch in the middle... Lucas, Adam and Henderson are not the same biscuit really... ouch, back to reality.

No, they are Cream Crackered.

i did say liverpool are pradictible when we play teams we expect to walk over,the crowd is quite an the team felt the atmosphere but i can see why its so quite becuase the team is not good enough.premier league is the fastest league in the world an we are the slowest team i have ever seen,what ever happened to pass an move liverpool are so static an easy to defend against,what do we do in trayin pass the ball to suerez an hope for the best, when we pass the player never has options an then losers the ball at least 2 players need to show for the ball every time .we need to get at least 2/3 players who pass an move i was a bit gutted we didnt get benyuon (spelling) back he is 1 of them players who moves around when you move you take defends with you an create space.some fans need to accept we WILL NOT get in the champions league.slate me all you like it is only my oppinion.and i am not whinging just stating the obvious i will back my team all the way even if we are not very good.

kp

Mate, i know what your saying but please, your post is utter gibberish. half term is over, go back and learn to spell

Any chance of a once decent striker by the name of Fernando Torres, at a once up there team by go by the calling, Chelsea FC?

I hope not.

I am in minority among my friends as a liverpool fan and the bantar I got from my mate who is a man united fan was interesting.
Here is how he told me that actually LFC are richest club in world.
According to his calculation.
Carrol+adam+downing+hendo have to be most expensive squad players that a club have bought.
35m+6+17+14=72m for 4 squad players.
I am not able to writte in words how slick he was with this.fair play to him.
But my point is these 4 should not be in first team from start due to there performances recently but I get a feeling kenny wants to prove to everyone that he was right in buying them.

Only thing I will say is something is wrong with this team.it does not feel right.
Come back soon steve.g we need to you! AGAIN CAPTAIN!

Red indian

Carroll, Adam, Hendo and Downing.are better than Squad players,as they are all capable of producing Match winning performances. Carroll proved that against City. Consistency is missing at the moment,but I believe if we all give them time and get behind them, instead of pointing fingers and slating them,then we will see what they are capable of

ed, would you be in the group of people who are backing lucas or are you in the group of people who isnt really that fussed with him and he should be sold, tbh i cant see why people are slating him, i think hes a top player who has grown into the dm role {Ed001's Note - I think Lucas is one of the players who we need to keep hold of. He has shown he has a fantastic mentality, all the abuse he has taken in his time and he has never once moaned. He has just put his head down and worked harder to improve his game.}

If you put your head down and try hard does that make you a regular in the Liverpool team? Laughable absolute laughable. {Ed001's Note - yes you are, but it's ok, we can humour you.}

Well said ed lucas is the type of player we need to be buying players that dont hide when things arent going well an knuckle down an give there all for the club.

belfast red adam

Lucas is one of our better and most consistent players; recently, anyway. And he was, rightly, our player of the year, last season. However, I don't like his partnership with Adam in a midfield 4 but that's more down to Charlie's lack of atleticism rather than Lucas's.
He should still be one of the first names on the team sheet and players selected to compliment him.

I think we now need players who really lift the other players by either either scoring crackers or even if they make great tackles like spearo last year, gotta love the jack russell.

DaveyRed

Lucas + adam = 1 xabi alonso. alonso can do what both of them were planned to do.

Just read LFC website ... Lucas the most accurate passer on saturday..Why cos he plays a ball 5 yards sidewards and backwards, this player illustrates whats wrong with the club NEGATIVE never rated him, the worst Brazilian i have ever seen. {Ed001's Note - thankfully you weren't supporting us in the 70s and 80s, we were renowned for the pass back to the goalkeeper. It was always about keeping the ball, that was number one priority and it won us plenty of trophies. It doesn't do badly for Barca either. So stop whinging!}

Hi Ed - can I just ask what your blood pressure is at the moment? I get stressed reading half these posts so god knows how you must feel, and we don't see everything that is sent!

JRG {Ed001's Note - meh, I am just embarrassed for those with so little patience. Spoilt by believing everything should be given to them now, without having to spend time and effort working for it.}

So how many passes has Lucas done which have resulted in goals? Mmmm. {Ed001's Note - oh right, yes of course, a player can only be of any use if they are providing goals. Let's just get rid of Pepe and the defence, no need for them, they aren't passing the ball through for goals.}

{Ed001's Note - thankfully you weren't supporting us in the 70s and 80s, we were renowned for the pass back to the goalkeeper. It was always about keeping the ball, that was number one priority and it won us plenty of trophies. It doesn't do badly for Barca either. So stop whinging!}
===================
Well said Ed. Also Lucas does nt always go for back or the short pass, most of the time he looks forward but his options are limited, I would rather he kept the ball than hoofing it forward and hope for the best.
Roy {Ed001's Note - it really wouldn't matter what he did, muppets would still be on his back.}

Ed 01 we are the worst pass an move team in the league slow no movment poor control an not very accurate passing,test it on the next game count how many times we give the ball away in easy positions and kuyt is the worst for it,

Lucas suppose to be a creative midfielder for heavens sake..Whats Reina and defence got to do with it? What a dumb editor {Ed001's Note - wow, you really aren't in a position to call anyone else dumb when you think Lucas is being played as a creative midfielder. Have you ever actually even watched a game of football? Because you certainly don't understand the game! One day you might actually watch a game and it will dawn on you that Lucas is being played as a defensive midfielder to shield the back four. Then, when you reach that level of enlightenment, you might well be in a position to cast aspersions on other people's intelligence. Until then, you are best to keep your insults to yourself, especially when pertaining to another's intelligence.}

The second goal against WBA was all about quick, incisive pass and move football and shows what Lucas brings to the team. Lucas intercepted a forward pass and played a ball on the outside of his right foot to Suarez, who then played a first time ball into the advancing Carroll who put it away.

JRG

And tell me Mr Bright Editor why is he playing as a defencive midfielder? I tell you cos he can't pass a ball forward or get into box and score goals, when he signed for us he was a creative midfielder {Ed001's Note - or perhaps it is because that is what we need him to do! You really don't know much about the lad other than the drivel in the media. Please go away and educate yourself on the game, read about what he did in Brazil before joining us. Maybe try watching a performance or two from him during his time there. Then you will realise just how stupid you are making yourself look.}

Lol well said ed. If you ask me he is the dumb one. Does he even support liverpool because he clearly has no idea about lucas and his role.

Danny

I'm looking forward to him performing for Liverpool like he does for Brazil ..remind me when that was? I don't know who has give you a job on here? never mind peanuts for monkeys {Ed001's Note - are you being serious? Can you actually read? I said look at how he performed while IN Brazil, not in the Brazilian team. Though you will find he has made about 15 appearances for his country, but I am sure you aren't stupid enough not to know that are you?}

This page is for you to have a laugh.Not to piss of the editors and all the other people on the page.

Danny

Not agreeing entirely with this person ed, but can a 4-4-2 work with Lucas in it? He really does just hover in front of the back 4 all game. Don't both ur cm's need to get up and down the field in that formation? Lucas in a 4-3-3 with one box to box mf (Stevie/Hendo) and one creative cm (Eriksen/Suso) would work better imo. Thoughts?

Fair play to you i did read it wrong about Lucas in Brazil and not for Brazil so apologies for that. l am sorry for been a bit harsh I'm frustrated with the team at the moment and to single a player out is wrong. Let's hope for 3 points at the bridge. Keep up the good work ynwa Justice for the 96

The guy slagging Lucas is talking out of his sphincter. When we bought him he was an undeveloped box-to-box midfielder not a 'creative' or 'attacking' one. He has matured and has developed into one of the best defensive mids in the Prem (who does occasionally get forward as well) which says something about him when you consider how young he is and that this is usually a role that takes a plot of experience to play. The only problem he has at the moment is he stays to deep but that is not his fault - that's the fault of an unsettled back four. Once they start to play as a unit he'll be more free to push further forward. And as Ed001 pointed out, if you have a problem with short balls sideways and backwards the Liverpool of the 70's and 80's would have killed you. Possesion, rolling the ball back and to across the back four and killing games dead so that the opposition went to sleep was the Liverpool trademark. I think it was Souness who said ' You don;t play football until you are 3-0 up. Until then keep hold of the ball and concentrate on not letting them score '. RED LENIN

Im not one of lucas's fans its like he is to predictable no flair he can tackle alright the problem is other players dont fear him like the de jong's essien's or the perlio's of today's game

Gentlemen can we please get behind our team, Liverpool, OK the game against Swansea was not our best performance this season but we still created several goal scoring chances, hitting the woodwork again (we are top of the league on that count..).
I would like to see Glen Johnson play RW with Kelly at RB, Kelly is one of our brightest prospects. Lets Aggar can stay fit, he is quality & can get forward.
So lets get behind our team

ed what player can you see wearing a liverpool jersey and what are the chances of aiden mgeadey
and how many players do you think we will sign in january {Ed001's Note - I can see the whole team wearing a Liverpool jersey, there are lots of pics available on the site! Very little of McGeady. Not much going to happen in January maybe one or two.}

Hope to god they fork out for Lavezzi or a suarez kind of player or just a bloody goal scorer Hate it when Gerrard is Injured...Ed do you know the real reason Meireles left was it solely down to him not getting more money

MJ {Ed002's Note - It was down to commitments not being met and an offer coming in.}

Can you expand on the commitments Ed cos i really thought it was down to us not doubling his wages if he had a good season also i thought that it was a verbal agreement with Hodgeson
Cheers ED

MJ {Ed002's Note - There is nothing to expand on. It has been discussed before.}

I think people were expecting the new squad to hit the ground running after the great run of results from January when KK took over.

Its true that we only have four more points and a GD of 4 better than we had at this point last year, but for those who are inclined to doom and gloom, I would ask you to remember how awful our performances were this time last year.

We are not scoring as many as we need to at the moment for a top four place, but the high number of chances is a very positive sign, and there is no need yet for pessimism. This is a time to get behind the team.

There have only been two bad performances, including Swansea. All the big teams are occasionally playing badly but still scraping wins, and we just need to get that habit too.

Admittedly we only have four more points than we had at this time last season, but remember that by the end of last year we only had another ten points on top of that, making 25.
So OK, if only have another 6 points by the end of December we can be worried, because we'll be no better than we were last year, but can you really see that happening?

We have Chelsea and City coming up, and they'll be tough games, but we do play well against the bigger clubs. Then we have Fulham, QPR, Aston Villa and Wigan.
There are no 'easy' games in the PL any more, those days are gone- but we can expect a good haul of points from those games I reckon.
Newcastle will begin to fade by the end of year if not sooner, and who knows when Spurs form will begin to falter, as they did last year?

We are still right in there for a CL spot, despite the current patch of poor finishing- and I think we need to be more positive about our position, and remember how terribly we were playing this time last year.

We are playing amazing football at times but we just cant seem to finish like lets say City can now most of their players are not fantastic except Ballotelli, Aguero and Silva...Surely with a bit of time we will learn to score lets face it the fans would appreciate it if we knew were the back of the net was...come on kenny give em some shooting practice

MJ

How many tens of thousand pounds a week and we hope they learn to score... Sad

I am really looking forward to the chelsea game. A real backs to the wall kind of performance and shutting a few people up. I would be tempted to go with pace up front as i think they are not the best defensively.

I also think we will win at chelsea and it will be interesting to see if Kenny goes with 5 at the back as we won there last year. Lets hope no injurys from the international break. I think we will see the real LFC at chelsea.

Eds who are Uruguay playing in the next couple of weeks and where are they playing?

Thanks

What do u guys think the chances are of us signing rvp and vermaelen from arsenal? Then maybe luring wilshere to anfield to?!

Prefer Lavezzi myself but have you noticed how nobody wanted HULK because he was to similar to suarez but now 99% of fans want a suarez-esqe player i'd be happy with a striker who can score goals or a right winger who can assist Carrol

Ed wondering if you could help me out, went out for a few beers with a group of lads yesterday and the conversation turned to footy trivia is it does. One of the lads asked has any manager in the old first or Premier league ever returned to a club and won a trophy? I could think of Walter Smith in Scotland who I believe did it with Rangers but not south of the border. This is not a dig at Kenny, I think trying to bed in half a new team while picking up injuries to Johnson, Agger, Carra and Stevie G is a big ask, the team will get more consistant the more they play and luck with injuries and hitting the woodwork usually balances out over the season. Just wondering if anyone can think of anybody or will Kenny be the first?
RNRed {Ed002's Note - Perhaps one of the readers can chip in.}

You can take the premiership out of that question, you can count the winning managers on one hand.
There is hope that one manager can win it with 2 different clubs though , that will be a record for the PL, lets hope it happens soon.
Roy

I think the answere is harry redknap at Portsmouth he won fa cup in second spell there

Thought of two more Steve coppell at palace play-off winners u get a cup for that & graham taylor at watford 2nd division winners & won a play-off to premiership in secind spell there, tony pulis at stoke nearly managed it at thus years cup final..

All these people on here wearing red tinted glasses please keep the Kenny favoritism aside & have a neutral look at Kenny's signings and what is going on with LFC at the moment.

It all started in January Kenny surprised everyone & splashed 35M on an old fashioned center forward who is still learning and maturing & who has as less as 5 months BPL experience to replace one of the best finishers in BPL recently. Why should we buy such a young old fashioned striker to replace Fernando Torres? We needed a player who could make a direct impact from the start & also someone who will easily fit into the team. It was said Suarez was not a replacement for Torres & he was bought on the basis that both of Suarez & Torres will play together. May be the decision by Torres to Leave LFC might have caused panic & forced Kenny & co to make a blockbuster quick signing to give fans some relief. But that's a bad move & certainly for someone like Carroll it is far worse. For 35M we needed a player who can make a direct impact not a youngster for the future. Kenny should have kept his hands in the pocket and said it would be more wise to get someone in summer after all what Carroll did for LFC last season was scoring a double against City other than that he did nothing. LFC play pass and move football & Kenny want to build his new LFC empire in the basis of this type of football.
Anyone wanting to play this type of football would certainly not want to splash 35M on a player like Carroll to spearhead their attack. Come on this is common sense.
So we bought Andy Carroll and thus force us to get players who will suit his style, once again not pass & move or LFC style. So came Stewart Downing after missing out on Ashly young. Downing is no doubt a good winger & will be far better than the likes of Jovanovic and Joe Cole. But the astonishing 20M paid for him raised few eyebrows, & now after a below average start to his LFC career many wonder whether he is worth 20M.
It would have been better if we get a player of similar quality as Downing for a little amount of money rather than 20M or Downing himself but not for 20M but for 14-16M.
On Henderson he is a good young player who is looking like someone who would grow into an excellent midfielder. For 16-20M may be a bit over priced but still might be worth the gamble. He played as a midfielder for Sunderland & was his natural and also his best position where he made his mark on the pitch.
Now I see Kenny again & again putting him on the right wing making me wonder whether he was bought as right winger or a right midfielder. I still remember a time when Hogdson was in charge he was putting Meiralles on the right side of midfield and it did not work out but still Woy tried the same tactic & out came the same poor result, it looks like it's a similar situation with Henderson at the moment. For gods sake play him where he belong, if Kenny was playing Henderson for the sake of promised game time Liverpool won't have the best use of Hendo. It will ruin his game + the whole teams game too. Henderson is not a winger he can't go past defenders he cannot make this buccaneering runs down the flank. PLEASE DON'T PLAY HENDERSON ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MIDFIELD PLAY HIM WHERE HE BELONGS WHERE HE ENJOYS & WHERE HE CAN FULFILL HIS FULL POTENTIAL.

As the damage is done from now on Kenny should try to get the best out of what he got but I didn't see that this season, he is not changing his tactics still the same formation same players, we have Maxi, Kuyt & Bellamy whom I would put ahead of Hendo, Carroll & Downing on the 1st XI. Let them feel the prices we paid for them won't guarantee a starting place, hard work & their performance on the pitch will decide it, so that they would work hard & will try to improve their game.
Some might say we should give the team time to settle & players to understand each other but I certainly don't think that is the issue with the current LFC team.
Kenny should have slowly bring on the new players to the team rather than from the start.

Everything is on Kings hand I hope & believe Kenny will turn it around the current situation but I hope he does it fast other wise it might be too late for Liverpool & one & only King Kenny.

pytbull {Ed001's Note - do you ever have anything to say that isn't whines? We never missed out on Young and took Downing instead, Downing was a target regardless of Young. Now, for once, try getting behind the team for a bit and judge them at the end of the season.}

Well said ed001
If football frustrates him that much he should follow cricket or something.

MIKEY

So Ed001 eyes are Kenny tinted too!
LOL- I fully support & is behind Kenny & LFC team. This is not being against anyone. Supporting or getting behind someone doesn't meant we have to believe in everything he did & accept everything he did as perfect.
And on Downing, I think the eds on here & this so called reliable Mecca were saying Downing was the alternative to Ashly Young who opted to join Man UTD.

pytbull {Ed001's Note - you have never shown any kind of support to anyone or anything connected to the club. All you have ever posted is whines and moans about it not being exactly as you expect. Try showing some patience, it is not going to happen over night, no matter how much you want it to.}

At Ed001, don't you agree with me the fact that Henderson is being played out of position & Kenny's team selection & some of his playing tactics are wrong.

At MIKEY, lol-thank-you for the suggestion!

pytbull {Ed001's Note - what a stupid question. Of course Kenny has made some mistakes, he is human, we all make mistakes. But the club is heading in the right direction, shame your support isn't.}

Why is the main poster bothered about fees so much? He would rather we spent 14-16 million on Downing instead of 20 million?!

If the club can afford to pay it and that was demanded then whats the problem, it has no bearing on anything else.

So Ed001 eyes are Kenny tinted too!

pytbull {Ed002's Note - I said in January that I expected Young to join Manchester United and I guess it I made it clear that Downing was first choice over Mata and the like - Young really did not enter the equation.}

The club & the team is in safe hands & Kenny is the right man to take us forward. Disappointments will come along the way as this is a rebuilding process.

Kenny is not an Angel and he is human he can do mistakes but my point is some people really don't want to believe the fact he has done it, doing it & might do it.

Hi was just seeing if any 1 can help me. Am after 2 tickets, not bothered who we are playing. Any help would be grateful. Vinny. J

Fans have to be realistic about signings. We may have the money to spend but without Champions Legaue and the ability to match the likes of man City, Chelsea, Man UTD on the wages front, we are not likely to sign the players we all want to see. Unfortunately football has changed for good, (as a result of this money) and we are now struggling to play catch up. I believe we need a lot of luck and a following wind to be able to compete again, but I sit here with my fingers crossed that it all comes together on a budget.

The way I see it is, that we will save a lot of money if our reserves and academy players make the step-up to the squad. Just two or three every year will help. Hopefully they will also have LFC in their blood and be proud to play for our club and repay the belief the club has shown in them.
aklfc

Just 1 a year from the academy will save us a fortune. Look at Kelly, he's a better right back than Glen and we spent 18m on him.
Most decent players cost about 18-30m these days, we usually need at least one decent player to come in each year. If that player comes from the academy we are saving that 18-30m and prob a fortune in wages.

Hi Ed, if you would select 3-5 possible signings in January and the summer, wich one would it be? I'm hoping awful alot on Ramirez then maybe Shaqiri, Ander Herrera or maybe Iker Munian - But i dont think there's any chance of getting none of them. So maybe if we go after Hoitlett who I think is a intresting player. Thx {Ed002's Note - I don't mind giving opinions on transfer rumours but I really don't have any interest in playing fantasy football. }

07 Nov 2011 15:41:09
Hi Eds, your opinion and views would be most welcome. With Stevie G currently absent, do you think Hendo could fill the gap left.
A formation of Suarez/Carrol up front, Bellamy/Downing wide and Lucas/Hendo or Kuyt in the middle.
Regards Food for thought. {Ed002's Note - I suspect the club will continue to do what they have been doing all season as Gerrard has only played a couple of games.}

ed do you think that if we dont finish at top 4 suarez could leave.? tnx mate
{Ed002's Note - I have no idea I am afraid.}

We had little chance of getting 4th when he joined so can't see why he would throw the hat in so early,
plus if he wants 4th that badly he might wanna start scoring more goals, lol

MIKEY

Mate, only Suarez can answer that. I doubt it, but then I doubted a certain Spanish player would leave under bitter circumstances because he thought he looked better in blue...

Is it true to say that British supporters are more critical of British born players.
Let's be honest, does anyone really believe that England could win the World Cup or Euro.
Food for thought.

No I can't see them winning anything anytime soon. Not because I am overly critical, it's because endland are not good enough on the world stage anymore. The English game focuses a lot on the physical side of the game, but you find big tournament football discourages it, in favour of more skillfull and flair football. Until English players start playing flair football like brazil and Spain or FIFA decide they wanna see a more English style of football and allow the refs to not throw cards about for every tackle, england will continue to struggle.
Sepp blatter and the other horrors are not exactly standing up for England so I can't see a change in mentality anytime soon.
Plus we just need to admit we just don't produce as many world class players as other countries. The press controls the minds of the English, they hype England up and call all our players world beaters when they are not, then just before a big tournament starts there is always an attempt to derail it all with a big scandal. It's all to sell papers. it's usually an Australian owned rag that breaks these exclusives afterall.

MIKEY

I don't think we are more critical of English born players, in fact, I think it's quite the opposite! I think far too many fans and certainly too many of the media think English players are much better than they actually are.
Let's face it how many English players would get in the Barcelona team? There isn't one that would even get close in my opinion

Chris in Tamworth

Rooney, Joe Hart and Cashley Cole in his prime would provide stiff competition for the likes of Valdes,Abidal and Villa (considering his form)

Rooney would provide stiff competition for Villa? What planet are you on?

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - He was referring to them playing Backgammon Chris.}

Rooney would not get into a team ahead of villa. I can't see the words Rooney and stiff in the same sentence without thinking of grannies so thanks for that. My dinner is ruined haha

MIKEY

Englands future imo is bright this golden age never furfilled what many suspected even just list england future defenders they are fars uperior then young spanish or german and their is a huge amount flano kelly richards smalling jones walker robinson bertand along with baines cahill who are 25 attacking options are good aswell rooney welbeck sturridge wickham delfounso also shelvey henderson wilshere mceachran barkley chamberlaine

Hey ED's I know agree we need another good striker and looking at the links the one that jumps out at me is Nolan Roux. We were heavily linked as far as I know near the end of the previous window and I am curious if we can expect more? Iv watched him play and he is intelligent and he would suit our play, Heard anything new or expect anything?

Hey eds been looking at the moneyball technique and how its used in baseball, but most of it still goes over my head to be honest, but do you have Any idea what stats Liverpool use to pick out players? I'm guessing goals, assists and passing accuracy are some obvious ones, but do you know of any other stats that are really obscure that we look at but nobody else does? I remember Adam was close to top of the midfielders last year in fantasy football and Henderson was one of the better very young players, maybe we just use fantasy football haha
Also does anybody believe moneyball will end up being a success in football? I think it might be useful to use stats to maybe find players in lower leagues and send out a scout to look at them, use moneyball with traditional scout reports, but stats can't always be trusted on their own.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - Sabermetrics is a baseball methodology and Moneyball has nothing to do with football at all. It is not used by Liverpool or any other football team Mikey.}

Sorry ed I thought Liverpool where using stats to look for players and John Henry was using moneyball techniques or bringing them to football after having success using it in baseball. Must be my mistake, it's been a long day.
While I am here have you thought about getting in another ed for times like now? I mean someone to filter out all the Kenny out and other rubbish leaving yourself and the other main eds to answer back to more intelligent posts. You and ed001 seem a bit fed up with some of the nonsense on here at the moment if you don't mind me saying, it's not fair on yourselves and not fair on the rest of us who want to chat to an ed with good footballing knowledge.

Is this where i post how pathetic some of the posters are, or will this be deja vu all over again?

Is this where i post how.............

Come on you lot get a grip. Seriously when are the majority of you going to get sick to death of worshipping the players one game and condemning them the next game?

It seems to me when players, no matter how good they are go through a little bit of a stinky patch, you turn on them quicker than a hungry wild animal.

We were never really in the hunt for the title however our current unbeaten run of 8 games tells you why we should be serious contenders for a CL spot. I take it the positions are still up for grabs or has it all been decided?

Thought so. And i take it that being adrift of 4th spot by an enormous 3 points is definitely unattainable considering there are so few games left and points to play for? Plus we haven't got any of the teams around us still to play?.

Even in our glory days, which i assume the majority of you haven't had the fortune to experience, yet you're still demanding success like you've always had it, we were utterly awful in October and November and it wasn't uncommon for us to be as much as 10-15 points behind whatever leader were ahead of us and looking like we'll never catch them with our current form.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. We have plenty of class, unlike some of our supporters who are definitely amateurish at best. Perhaps a part time team like Witton Albion could do with part time supporters.

Who was it that once said 'If you cannot support the team when they're losing or drawing, don't bother supporting them when they're winning?'

He wasn't wrong. You lot are.

Bob the Red

Bob, you talk a lot of sense, but I cannot see how we are going to make 4th place as I feel Chelsea, Utd, City and Spurs will be above us come May. Arsenal are screwed if Van Persie gets injured. We have spent a fortune on players like Downing, Carroll and Adam who are just not up to the job. Our manager seems to relentlessly play Henderson out of position when it is plain for all to see it is not working for him out there and the team plays better with Andy Carroll out the side. These are glaringly obvious starting points but it is so frustrating to see us walk in to the same mistakes week on week. I do understand that some fans are unbelievably fickle and I have no time for them, but there are others like myself who post on here regularly who have been lamblasted for giving an opinion from the off which went against the common curve of optimism. I support the team, I just saw this coming a mile off.

Ash

Great post bob.
Couldn't put it better myself.
Dunno how it's so hard to see the massive improvement we have made in such a short amount of time, and how we are well set to continue to improve.

There are still too many LFC fans living in CC Land. They expect a lot of money to be spent in January. It's not going to happen, then or at any other time. The days of Liverpool spending massive amounts of money are over. The owners realise that the future lies within the club and that any new signings will be young promising players that will cost very little and can develop through the academy. If they are not good enough for Liverpool they can be sold on so that there will be very little loss financially. The sort of player that we fans dream off will be snapped up by the likes of Chelsea,Man C,man utd,Barcelona and Real Madrid. We can no longer compete with these clubs for the stars but we have to get in on the ground floor and snap up the young players quickly before they all start to do the same. Whatever happens Liverpool will remain a top club and the days when we are supporting our players instead of undermining them will soon be back. There is no greater sight in football than Liverpool in full flow with the crowd behind them. No other club in the world can match this.
Dutchmal

I am not a Liverpool fan, but have often wondered what happened to all of the young players you used to pull through your academy. Sucess stories like stevie g and owen etc are a thing of the past.

The academy was neglected until Rafa came. He revolutionise it, brought in ex-Barcelona youth coaches and we are just seeing the results. I believe the academy will produce a few players every year to help the financial gap.
aklfc

If Sterling was a right or left back he would be in the team but because he is offensive player he is too young. Red Russ {Ed001's Note - not true at all, do you actually take the time to find out why the full backs got in the team? Or would finding out the truth not mesh with your whines?}

we should have got frank rijkard as our manager as Kenny is doing the wrong things. it was embarrassing the other night. its going to get a lot worse in our next three games, Chelsea, man city then Chelsea again. sell lucas, skirtel, Aurelio, Carroll, spearing, Henderson and get tevez and Johnson from man city. if we dont win those games then top 4 is out of our reach and Suarez is going to leave.

We always play better against these teams, our blood will be up.

We always play better against these teams, our blood will be up.

hope blood presur not going up :)

Johnson from citeh yes, but not that poisonous little t**t Tevez. Also why the hell does he still need an interpreter after all this time in English football?

I know my question might be long but I really wanna know: what striker is the most likely to become a liverpool player by the end of the winter transfer window? anything on strikers? (Tevez, Gomez, Lawandowski, RVP, Other) Or on wingers?(Marin, Hazard, Dyer, Sinclair, Other) Or defensive midfielders?(Lassana Diarra, Daniele De Rossi, Kayal, Other). Thank you for answering ! (I think we really need to buy new players this winter) {Ed002's Note - Liverpool bought a lot of players in the summer and you will not see such a level of change this winter. I don't see Tevez, Gomez or Van Persie arriving. There is interest in De Jong and I guess Lewandowski may be an option. I don't see any of the other players you mention arriving.}

Hi Ed
Who will be the best options for a right winger
For lfc. {Ed002's Note - We have really no idea, sorry.}

Some of the best sides have a very strong right side of their team , we seem to keep having our right side as our weakest , just look at our right flank when we play , redforever

Hoillett's contract is up in the summer, you guys should make a move for him. Good little player imo. Would have him here at United but we have enough wide players.

RedDevil92

Hoillett would improve the team , reddevil92 you are right, cheers.....for a change...........lfc

So do Liverpool in fairness, Carragher to name one.

Sydney ;)

G. Jhonson can play there. he is kind of micon type attack and get good shoot on goal.

hi ed. what do you think about slovenian players and your opinion if any of them could play in EPL.tnx mate {Ed001's Note - I don't know any to be honest.}

07 Nov 2011 12:47:54
Hi EDS, While i do appreciate a work in progress which we are, surely we need to look at a little snibbler, a little hatcher who will poke a goal or two and why was bellamy not thrown in against swansea. greatful for your thoughts
many thanks {Ed001's Note - the club are looking hard for a striker, but it is not as simple as saying we want one and then putting in a few details in the search filter on FM! As for Bellamy, I would expect the worry was that he would lose his rag against Swansea. Last thing we needed was him coming on, trying too hard and getting sent off, then Swansea snatching a win.}

Every team goes thru a slump every season. If we all look back at the end of the season and it works out that this is are slump, 8 matches unbeaten is not bad. Please stop jumping the gun, there's a long way to go to the end of the season and r we gona let the boys walk alone.

07 Nov 2011 12:06:09
Ed you reckon we miss a Sami Hyypia type influence. Both as player and voice in the squad?

Spriggo {Ed001's Note - yes, we do lack leadership, someone to speak to the young kids on the pitch and keep their heads up. I would have liked to have seen Kuyt get more involved in that respect, he has the experience.}

Ed, If you/we can see that the team lacks leadership? why is nothing done about it?

Sam armchair {Ed001's Note - something is being done, Carra plays when fit, Gerrard plays when fit, not a lot else can be done outside of a transfer window. It is not like the old days when a manager could identify a problem and rush out and fix the problem by buying or selling. Now it has to be coached, that takes time.}

Here is my view. Carroll and Suarez have had nothing to go on for most of the seasons games so far. Suarez has created chances from nothing, because he is that kind of player. Carroll is never going to be that kind of player. However he has done ok considering the service he has been getting. We are terrible moving the ball from Midfield to them. No fluidity between midfield and forwards. We look like a Table Football/Foosball team at times, with two rigid and inseparable lines, in the middle and upfront. Carroll especially needs this to be rectified. Look what he did with Kevin Nolan at Newcastle running around him. Hopefully Gerrard can provide more fluidity when he comes back. Lucas is never going to be the most mobile midfielder. His strength lies in getting the ball, keeping the ball and giving it safely to another player. Adam is meant to be the creative outlet. He has been mediocre. His passing has only come off half the time and he is not really the penetrating, running type of midfielder. As a midfield Lucas and Adam is not a good enough combination at the moment. However they could be ok if we had decent wingers to take the burden off them, by taking on players, creating space for Carroll and Suarez in the middle and putting in some decent crosses. If you look at the way wingers play in most other sides, we are woeful at it in comparison. The plan seems to be get the ball our wide and then either cross the ball in or go on a run with no option but to cross from the byline to Suarez and Carroll in the box. That said, there also has to be alternative options provided from midfield or the fullbacks. Enrique and Johnson did this pretty well on Saturday, but again there needs to be more movement from the middle. Henderson as many people have pointed out is not a winger. Maybe he should be tried instead of Adam in the middle. Downing apparently is a winger, but has been our worst performer of the season so far. Bellamy has done very well whenever he has played and I would have him on before Downing from the start. Kuyt, although not the most wingy of wingers himself, does a decent job on the right, so he should replace Henderson there.

Ed can you post in rumours plz for feedback from you and posters
Do you think Kenny got it wrong this time around by buying mainly British(nothing wrong with it)
players as he did with Liverpool first time around and the same with Blackburn where he enjoyed success,i know it is early doors but the signs in my view are not at all encouraging,my point is back then there was not as many foreign players and not as good as the are now a days. {Ed002's Note - It is hardly a rumour - so it goes with all of the other stuff in banter.}

I agree just look at the English national team, I would go for Spanish, Dutch, Uruguyans....

Just gonna shock you all to the core and suggest a starting XI I'd play against Chelsea and City.

-------------------Reina---------------------
Kelly--------Skrtel-------Agger-------Johnson
-------------------Lucas---------------------
Bellamy-------------------------------Enrique
---------Henderson---------Suarez-----------
--------------------Carroll-------------------

Bench: Doni, Flanagan, Coates, Adam, Maxi, Downing, Kuyt.

If Henderson doesn't shine in the centre, bring on Maxi as he has proven he can score goals fromthat position. If Carroll doesn't shine with that sort of creativity around him, sub him for Kuyt as he has a knack of scoring if he's actually played in his right position. Any other subs should be dependant on injuries.

Some real pace down the wings to actually give Carroll a decent supply, creative and agile players in behind Carroll to play offer him more support. Lucas to anchor the midfield, and a defense that was solid towards the end of last season when we had Flannagan in instead of Kelly (who is far better anyway). If Carroll can't score, or at least create some goals in this formation, then just bloody sell him.

If Gerrards fit, swap him in for Henderson and Henderson swap with Maxi on the bench.

If Carragher is fit, swap him for Coates on the bench.

This team offers pace and solidity, and some new trial postions for a couple of players, because what we currently have, isn't working.

YNWA! (Adam)

Gk: reina
Rb: Kelly

I dont think lucas has the ability to spread the ball about to the wide players so id have adam there.

Does anyone think Darren Bent would fit the bill at Anfield ,allways seems to find the net he's the kind of poacher we need

There are 2 players that I've been saying we should buy for years. Either Bent or Defoe. Both are natural finishers and we've needed one for a while

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - Defoe is hardly a natural finisher though, I can understand Bent, but Defoe misses as many as our current strikers. It took him how long to reach 100 Prem goals? Also suffers a lot of niggling injuries, which probably explains his inconsistency.}

Yes i do, he WILL get you goals and i think he would definately fit the bill, just one problem.. Villa would want a astronomical fee for the player they paid well over 20m for 10 months ago. Otherwise yes!

Adzii

I suggested Bent a few weeks back - think he is ideal for our team. I'm sure Comolli said after Bent moved to Villa that we were considering him but they were looking for a partner for Torres and thought that Bent was better up front on his own so we never made a move. Torres then decided he wanted to go to Chelsea though so we missed out on a good replacement. Presumably Comolli would have recommended/signed Bent while at Tottenham?

JRG

He's always been my favourite striker tbh mate. I suggested him as a good buy long before even Hodgson was in charge. He'd have cost us about £10million from Spurs at the time, and now look at what he has turned into, the most natural English finisher about. A guy who will be an identical player is Daniel Sturridge, but i think Chelsea might want to keep him!

YNWA! (Adam)

As a spurs fan, defoe is by far the more clinical, but couldn't see him moving north of watford!

i seem to remember a few years back under Rafas managment we were finding it hard to finish the chances we were creating and the following season we came second in the league to utd and would have won only for the Arsenal game which we drew 4 all,i fully believe we need time and everything will come together King Kenny is building a good team so just have faith in him.Hi ed am i right or am i getting my seasons mixed up. YNWA {Ed001's Note - I can't remember myself mate, there are always times like this though, eventually it starts to come good, if the fans get behind the team. If they turn on it, that is when we have a problem.}

It was the 0-0 draws in the first half of the season that stopped us winnig it. Then Rafa let us attack and we where amazing till the end of the season, if the crowd can just get behind the team against "lesser" teams then that would help alot.
Was at the game yesterday, trying to start singing and people just looked at my like i was making noise in a libary.

this is for eds reply to my earlier post about owens and fowlers career being finished at 30 because we played them at an early age, if we get 10 good years out of a player from a young age, say from 17/18 and they contribute and move the team forward, then id say play them, this age debate is floored, chances are when there nearing 30 we should sell them on anyways, isnt that the new ethos with the owners? {Ed001's Note - floored? Do you mean flawed? Because your reasoning is certainly flawed. The idea is not to sell them at 30, the idea is to sell them at the end of their usefulness to Liverpool, like used to happen. A player that peaks before he is 30, peaks because they are suffering constant nagging injuries, so reducing their usefulness. By letting a player grow into his body before asking him to play regularly, you reduce the risk of those injuries and so increase their ability to perform for the team. It is a simple thing to understand, very few kids are fully developed at 16 like Rooney was.}

Both players suffered serious injuries when entering their prime, and never fully recovered...

Hi eds whats the chances of Gerrard being involved against Chelsea?

Mighty reds {Ed001's Note - he has no return date pencilled in yet, so I would suggest he is likely to be a month away at least from a return.}

This is mad. We have had shed loads of players. Different managers and yet things are still there throughout all of them. There is a difference I see now though and that's that we don't score as many. Even with Cisse Baros Riedle Crouch Garcia and Jesus even Voronin scored a few. We really lack goals. How long has this width problem been talked about on the left? Riera was boss for half a season then fell apart. Now we have an out and out winger supposedly who spends 5 minutes on the left then wants to swap to the right - almost every game.

I've seen Everton and they don't have a lot but they play for each other and give their all. We suddenly come to life with 5 minutes to go against poor sides. We don't have a right to be them you have to earn it and I don't see us doing that.

I would have absolutley no gripe with the players if we got beat but gave the effort. I remember we went to Chelsea and drew 4-4. Wasn't enough but how can you argue the effort in that? You can't and any fan would stand by their team for that. But that's not what we are getting and we haven't had it for a long time consistently. Something Utd does. They play to 90+ mins every week.

Maybe some players can't handle pressure that comes with the shirt but if they duck away then they won't get support for lobg will they. You have to stand up and give it what you have not passing balls back let's be positive. There's nothing to be scared of if you've given your effort. You can't really have a go at Kuyt can you?!

Players have changed, managers have changed, but the crowd hasn't changed. Or has it?

Hello Eds.
Just wondering what was the deal with Shelvey? Is he at Blackpool till the summer or january, are they in a position to buy him? I'd have him in the team before Henderson atm in a whiff to be honest. {Ed001's Note - he is back on Jan 1st.}

No mate, there's a peice of carp called the EU which means England will pay all of Italy's debts and fund their economy just like we have done for the Republic of Ireland, Greece, Spain etc. More debt for us and less money in the premier league if anything mate.

I am as disappointed as any Liverpool fan with the way we are playing. Some of the new signings are either not good enough or need time to settle. The only way for me to find out if Carroll is good enough is to give him a decent run of games with Suarez possibly 7-8 games then we will know if he is good enough. We can then decide if we need to off load him ( the problem with Carroll is that we are hearing rumours about his off field antics and then blaming that for his poor performances). He looked like a foal at times trying to learn to stand and walk on Saturday.
Henderson needs a run of games in centre midfield probably instead of Adam cos him and Lucas isn't working. I don't like Lucas either but would be a bit safer than Adam at the moment.
I am a bit disappointed that dalglish can't see this and why he doesn't put more pace in midfield with Bellamy with right. We've got quick players now so use them.
The team I'd pick after it's confirmed that Carroll isn't good enough and when everyone is fit would be
Reina--Johnson--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique
Bellamy--Henderson--Gerrard--Adam--Downing
Suarez
This would be 4-5-1 and then go to 4-3-3 against weaker teams.

Hi Ed, hope you are doing well..

Should and can we bring back players who are onl season long loan ..

Aquallani, Shelvey and J.Cole .. ?

We need some Creativity and they do provide some ..

{Ed001's Note - only Shelvey will come back, Cole was clearly past it (was never really good enough anyway) and Aquilani never wanted to be here in the first place.}

Eight games unbeaten and two clean sheets in the last two games, well they're the positives.

In truth the game on Saturday was probably our second worst performance of the season, only beaten by the Spur's game as we had two players sent off and conceded four goals. For me it was clear after ten or fifteen minutes that there was little or no tempo to our play - the passing was sloppy and the movement non-existent. Every-time one of our mid-fielders had possession of the ball there was no options to pass the ball to. Swansea were everything we were not - moving the ball quick, keeping possession and attacking with pace down the wings. Half way through the second half we had become disorganised and had no shape whatsoever. So is this performance Kenny's fault? Yes of course it is; Kenny and Steve Clarke train the team during the week to prepare them for the match but something was missing from that performance, a spark or any urgency until the last few minutes. But does Kenny deserve the kind of criticism he is receiving on this site? Of course not; it's a total overreaction to only our second bad performance of the season, we have had bad results previously but not poor performances except this one and the Spur's game.

Kenny is not a stupid person - you could see his disappointment at the result and performance after the match. He was heavily critical of that performance and let his players know, the first time I have heard Kenny slam the players this season. I still have every confidence that Kenny is the right man to take us forward, the performances have been encouraging, but it is clear that some players are suffering from a lack of confidence. After every game, no matter what the result, it is the same players that come in for criticism, even Suarez was getting it from some posters recently. Is it any coincidence that teams like Newcastle and Aston Villa are performing so well this season? Do they have better players and managers than us? No, of course not but their fans had very few expectations going into this season and were probably happy with survival. Their players are playing with confidence because they are under no pressure or expectancy from their fans. When I have come on this site before the last few home games there has been posts from people saying they expect us to win 4-0 or 5-0 and Andy Carroll to get a hat-trick etc then when the game fails to live up to their own high expectations they come on here and slaughter the team. No-one is happy with draws at home to Norwich, Sunderland and Swansea but slagging off individual players is only going to lead to lower confidence and therefore even worse performances/results. On this site every win ends up feeling like a draw, and every draw feels like a defeat.

The level of criticism levelled at the manager and some of the players has gone too far. The Liverpool fans have always been widely recognized as the most knowledgeable and loyal in the game but just lately I have seen very little of this. People like Kenny Dalglish and Jamie Carragher, people who are Liverpool through and through and served this club for many years are getting the most awful rubbish written about them. Let's have a bit of respect hey? These people love our club and have given everything to it throughout their careers.

And can we please put to bed all this talk of 'bring back Rafa'? The guy had his chance and he blew it. He turned us into a dull, turgid football team and for me, had taken the fun out of watching games. People saying he got results or won things, remember once he built Liverpool with his own players we never won anything. The Champions League winning team was predominantly Houllier signings as was the F.A. Cup winning team. At this stage of the season in Rafa's first season we had 17-points and had lost four games, in 2008 when we finished second we drew 0-0 at home to the likes of Stoke, Fulham, West Ham and Man City as well as a score draw against Hull so let's not try and make out that everything under Rafa was better.

JRG

Yea I remember those dull, turgid days in Barcelona, Leverkusen, Milan.. Horrible days, absolutely horrible. Thank god we're a good distance away from that hole that Rafa dragged us in....

I agree with everything except for the benitez part mate. I like both Rafa and KK. The first was a great manager for us, and I will remember him fondly; the second was a legend once, and has a chance of becoming a legend NOW, so we should back the team no matter what!

Onward to glory!
Drigan

I know, it was awful. A 27 year old Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres firing, Champs league finals, beating Madrid, Barca, Arsenal. Dark days indeed.

Ash

Ash - So why aren't we in the Champions League now? Because in Rafa's last season we finished 7th that's why, the rot had set in then and we have been trying to stop it ever since. He sold players like Alonso and Arbeloa for about £34m and replaced them with Aqualani and Johnson for about the same amount - was that good management? What about his last season in the Champions League? We came a distant third in a group that contained Fiorentina, Lyon and Debrecan, losing at home to Lyon and Fiorentina doing the double over us. It is easy to remember the good nights but they were an exception rather than the norm. In his last season in the PL we had lost five games by this stage of the season so don't you think we have improved since then?

I am not saying Rafa is a bad manager, but he is a better coach than he is a manager. During his time in charge of Liverpool the football got worse and worse to the point it was difficult to watch. In his career any success he has had is with players he has inherited such as at Liverpool, or where a Director of Football has identified the players and signed them such as Valencia.

JRG

Great post JRG, spot on with you're points (maybe a bit harsh on Rafa but fully understand). You are correct about expectations and some on here seem to think we have a god given right to hammer teams week in week out. As I have mentioned on here before, generally the style of football we are currently playing is better than has been for the last 18 months but as with most things in life it takes time, and some of the "fans" on here think 12 months is long enough so lets get rid and start again. KK is not a short term fix people so get behind him and the team, we're here for the long haul and that includes the bad as well as the good!

^^ Thanks. I really do not wish to appear harsh on Rafa, whatever mistakes or wrongs I feel he made during his time I will forever remember him for that night in Istanbul. I still remember after watching the game at a friend's house going home a crying my eyes out as I never thought we would win that trophy again. But there is no denying he did become a divisive figure at the club and towards the end the signings and football got steadily worse. We did have regular Champions League football during his spell but at that time there was four teams chasing four Champions League places, our biggest threat often came from Everton. Now we have United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool all chasing those four places! The competition has got much harder.

I was just thinking though after reading Ash's typically caustic reply - where would this team be, with a Torres from three or four years ago, in the league? Someone who finished of those chances we created against Norwich and United for example. In my opinion we would be top three and a few points of the top.

JRG

I'm not saying he never made mistakes JRG, but the notion that we always played dull, turgid football is a nonsense when you consider we were top goalscorers in one season. It should also be noted that we started to slide when the yanks came in and were not allowing a net spend. Also, the players he identified and was not allowed to sign, many are world beaters now (ie Aguero, Vidic, Silva) so it is not I think Rick Parry has a lot more to answer for than Rafa.

You say that he only won the CL with another managers players, which is true, but he also got us to a final 2 years later with a different team and we were ranked number 1 in Europe. You could also argue that Kenny's best performances have come with another managers players as he has spent the best part of £90 million in the summer and we look far worse than last season under him.

Ash

Ash - So if we were so good during that period what happened? Rafa wanted too much control at the club and wanted to take on the owners. He marginalised players like Alonso by trying to sell him so he could buy Gareth Barry. Players that helped us finish second like Pennant, Riera, Arbeloa, Riise and Crouch were sold and lesser or more expensive players were brought in to replace them such as Babel, Keane, Aqualani and Dossena.

The truth is Rafa had plenty of money to spend but he wasted it on the likes of Aqualani and Keane. Vidic chose to sign for United, lots of teams were looking at Aguero and Silva but there was always a concern that Silva was too lightweight for the PL. You say that he wasn't allowed to sign these players but towards the end he was in complete control of all transfers. He had a budget to work to like any other manager.

You are also attempting to distort the facts by saying Kenny spent the best part of £90m in the summer - surely it is closer to half that? As I said in my previous post, if we had a Torres from three or four years ago where do you think we would be in the league? I would say with the amount of chances we are creating he would have finished off a high percentage of them and we would be top three by now.

JRG

I was wrong about the net spend, it wasn't £90 mil, it was roughly £50 mil. However Vidic's transfer was vetoed by Parry, Aguero was deemed too much of a risk and as you rightly say, Silva was deemed too lightweight. However Benitez wanted them and I think we can safely say, all would have been worth it!

I don't think he had complete control at all at the end as he turned a net profit in on transfers during the last two seasons of his reign and you can't blame the Keane debacle on him really either, Aquilani's, yes, but his transfer was made up of various performance related clauses. The difference is that Kenny has been allowed to spend more than Rafa ever was with 3 out of the top 4 most expensive transfers in our history being a Dalgilsh signing (the other being Torres who was sold for nearly £30 mil more than for what he was bought.) I for one would rather have had Rafa spending big than Kenny. Rafa just couldn't get spending small right.

after posting and reading some posts of late, whats charity work got to do with managing this great club, jimmy saville RIP did lots for charity but he wasnt a football manager was he?
So we can put that one to bed, also why dont we play 4-3-3 against lesser sides? bellamys getting on a bit but when he comes on he always looks threatening and he does score goals, sure carrols a lard arse abd needs to up his game considerably.
DC and KD bought the current crop of newbies and after watching liverpool and football in general for the past 50 years,im so far unimpressed with the effort and application, in fact memories of Houllier are coming back to me, buy big sell cheap.
Anyways to the point, we have bought badly to date, these guys as said previously are seasoned pros, young or old they are professional footballers who should adopt to any teams style of play regardless, i see other teams play people out of so called natural positions but they manage.
Also why not give the kids a chance, i seem to recall owen played at 16, fowler at 17 i think and gerrard at 18, did we have a problem with them? No, so i dont go for there not ready yet, only way to test the theory is play them.
If i was FSG, i would seriously be looking at my options at this moment in time as again the we need luck scenario doesnt wash either, 11 games in and we are still looking for lady luck? Nar sorry its an excuse, what we need is the management playing the players we have to their combined strengths and if thats not good enough bite the bullet sell them on and replace them.
These players must realise this is one of the greatest footballing institutions worldwide, to play at anfield is an honour not just a job, so i say to the underperformers, up your anti or man up and tell KD your not up to the job, also i think KD must be a little more cut-throat in his decisions, as from what im seeing we will struggle for the rest of the campaign. {Ed001's Note - let's just look at what happened to Fowler and Owen's careers before talking about how we should be blooding the next 12 year old who scores a hat trick in a kid's game. Both were basically finished by the time they hit 30 years old, mostly because they were playing regular first team football at too young an age.}

But ed what about Ryan Giggs?

Keith YNWA {Ed001's Note - what about Ryan Giggs? He wasn't a first team regular while a kid, he often alternated with Lee Sharpe as a young kid. People forget that because it doesn't suit their fantasies about playing 15 year olds who have had a good season in the Academy team.}

Kenny Dalglish is the right man for LFC. He'll sort out whats happenning at the moment, youll see big money players sitting on the bench replaced by players that have or will be breaking thru the ranks. The next 2 league games are though, but we play better against top teams.KK will bring success back to LFC..took ferguson 5 years, at least we can give KK 3years

i think we need a world class striker and a (good) right winger. im sick of Carrol and Henderson. Pay 55million for them two why couldn't we of just bought a world class players. what you think ed's ? any chances of striker and winger ? {Ed002's Note - Read the posts please.}

£55million was payed for them to be the spine of our team for a decade. Face it, English players are more loyal! Wheres Torres, Mascherano, Alonso, Arbeloa and Riera gone?
Who Stayed? Gerrard and Carragher. Kuyt Agger and Reina have all made efforts to leave or thought about it.
Besides, Henderson is a central midfielder and Carroll thrives off of decent deliveries from out wide. The only player i think was a waste of cash atm, is stuart downing. 27 years old, supposedly in his prime... hmmm. That sir is £20m down the drain. he has no re-sale value at that age being a winger who relies on pace.

10 games into the season and wonder want people think about our new signings. Personally i think

1. Enrique - possibly best buy of any club in the summer with what he cost and what he brings to a team

2. Henderson - Not a right winger, needs to be played more centrally, getting better

3. Downing - doesn't seem to have the same confidence that he did at Villa last season but will come good

4. Adam - Never a Liverpool player, has no change of pace and if someone marks him closely in a game he disappears.

So overall could do better. We definately need more invention in the team. I would like to see Bellamy given more of a chance and why does Kenny leave the subs to late in the game? Bellamy came on after 75 mins. We could all see we weren't playing well and he should of come on a lot earlier, possibly even started as he's got the work ethic to chase back and help the defence and got the pace to scare the opposition

Regarding Hendo, all of us see that he operates best in CM. All except Kenny, who seems bent on playing him on the right. Round pegs, square holes? Or is Kenny myopic?

Cabaye is the best buy of the summer bar none

I think our game is poor because lucas knows nothing except tackling! Have got no pace neither great vision nor have idea going forward! And adam? Is he liverpool standard? For me no! I will take parker anyday instead of adam! Always try long pass which is just disgusting! Try to beat 3/4 with his own and mainly have no pace! Look at how fast even qpr against manci! And the most esential thing we lack that winning spirit and confidence of wining! Common guys even toite and cabye are better than adam and lucas seriously! We spent 100 n we are playing at our home where opponent dominant us? Is that improvement? I think if we continue to play hendo at rw and adam and lucas at cm then belive me that midfield is a mid table standard! As for carrol i never liked him at newca and i would never think he would be hit at liverpool! But i think downing and hendo would come good! They have so much pressure from their price tag and they are afraid of trying something not to make mistake and we have what? 0 pace, 0 creativity,0 shoting ability and 0 spirit of wining game! I think this team will never be top4 until we change our midflied! For me i will put downing in bench and adam on bench and say either start delivery or be quiet and s**t on bench same with carrol! What do u guys and ed think?
Red i live for

Alot of fans are so negative.I wonder would they like roy and g&h back. We all knew it would be a big challenge to get to top 4 this year. O.k i wish we were playin better or signed players of my choice but give the team time and support. Negativety carrys true the ranks, from fans upwards

What are you talking about? Mascherano knows nothing except tackling as well, mate.

Hy ed! Great site! Is it true we are looking at player called garcai who plays in brazil? Is he any good? And if rumour of glen johnson and lucas is true then am sure club would sell them for 18 and 20m what do u think? And in ur opinion which rw will be perfect for us except jong? Great site and last question what wil happen to bijev? Will he come back in jan? {Ed002's Note - I explained what little I know of Santiago Garcia who who has been watched by Caniggia amongst others. I don't know of anything that will see Lucas and Johnson sold for £38M. I have no idea about a right wing or Bijev.}

hai..Ed..first..great site..and great work..

Saw the match...and dissapointed...and i have the rigt to be diossapointed..i am fully behind my team..but...we dont want any more excuses...we havent learnt anything..and we will not...
Kenny by all respect..has decided that..he will make henderson a gerrard...he will play him every match...every match..he is not a right sided player....he wasnt great against west borm either...
torres wil llaugh..so as benitez...we havend done anything great this season...and being honest we dont have any excuses...
we have signed..5 british players big...but only an uruguan..and spanish have perforemd for us...

Saw the match of spurs...great team..full respect..small city...not a big fanbase...9 mill spent..no history...but the truth is that they will play CL next season..and we wil sing the song again again again and again...

downing was poor..henderson was poor...carrol...this guy needs practise...let him hit in an empty net for 1000 times..and then we will allow him to play...
KK should have started with bellamy up front...with suarez..
Ed can i ask you something? if we dont get CL and suarez decided to leave next summer?? would you criticises him???

most significatnt facts....the teams from where we bought players..actuall ysit above us..new castle...
spurs have won more away games than our home games wins...
city will beat us hom..so we will loose against chelase...and we wil lsit at 10th sopt soon..

Good luck KK..we are with Liverpool...
we need results..we have given you money..and support..
pls repay it..

You wil lnever walk alone... {Ed002's Note - I don't think you will find I have critcized players at all.}

Ed, is this guy some sort idiot? Respect should be given and not belittle teams, spurs, small fan base and no history?? one of the original glory teams, don't mind the banter but belittling teams is not on, I've seen reds on here spitting dummies out just because you (ed 2) have been honest!! {Ed001's Note - I have given up on some people, their arrogance is beyond belief, they expect victory like it is a right. They are just spoilt brats who have no idea of the meaning of the word support. But I have to admit the thing that is really annoying me is the belittling of every team. Every team in the Prem is there by right, they earnt the right to be here on the pitch, as so they deserve respect.}

Enrique is a great player but we had plenty cover.Carroll is different the amount you paid was stupidity.
We dont want him back either...

"We were really, really bad. When we got the ball we lost it straight away. We were not sharp enough.......Sometimes we looked like headless chickens running around after the ball.......I think everyone was angry and disappointed, some more than others, but that's the way it is."

Fair judgement by Danny Agger. At least they're aware that the standard isn't high enough. Hopefully a few angry words were said between the players before they all headed off on international duty so they can think about it and come back fighting.

-Shane.

Shane

Yes, "angry words" will sort your lot out, not better players, or better tactics, "angry words" are the answer.
I told you, LFC supporters are dumb. The defence rests!

Kenny needs to pull the finger out and start playing the players who really want to play for the shirt instead of the big pay check at the end of the week, 2nd half of last season we played players like spearing, shelvey, flanno, robinson etc whos dream it was to put on the red jersey, now we have mediocre overrated players which are undesirvidly playing for lfc because of the large fees that we paid for them. Passion is the key to success in this game, not money.

U might be right, but take a look at city. just saying.

Kaizer

Yes but look at the success of man utd over the past 20 years and even the legendary liverpool of the 70's and 80's, every single player out there was pulling theur weight and if they werent, off the team, simple as that.
