Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

07 Jul 2017 22:50:27
Apologies if this has been asked before but i havnt been her in quite some time, i remember quite a while back one of the Ed's saying we would already be borrowing against the new TV money (was 2 or so years ago)

So just wanting to know if we really have as much as people are assuming we do or if we already started to use it to renovate the stadium a while back for example

Also i remember us being particularly bad at negotiating agents fees and got robbed quite a few times - is this still an issue?

if ytou don't want to discuss finances that's fine, just interested to get a rough idea, Thanks guys.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The club is not borrowing against the money but, like others is looking to rebaseline financially.}

07 Jul 2017 20:41:51
Hi eds. Was looking at some footage of the lads back at preseason melwood. No sign of mo salah? Any reason for this?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea man, sorry.}

07 Jul 2017 23:58:18
He will be at melwood tomorrow (Saturday) to start his previous season mate.

08 Jul 2017 00:21:37
Has he a time machine, going all the way back to start his previous season😁😁.

08 Jul 2017 07:36:54
Not to worry, OP. He'll be joining with the other players who had international games right after the season ended bar of course, Emre Can whose summer holiday started the day after the Confed Cup.

08 Jul 2017 20:30:45
Haha Port red I see my mistake stupid phone. Obviously ment to say start his pre season.

07 Jul 2017 23:16:09
Seen Fabio Coentrao has left real on loan for a season. Would have been a good shout for us in my opinion. Only 29, wealth of experience and would sorted out left back for a season or two.
Could of had Milner/ Flannaghan as back up, and then try bringing in a youngster like Sessenogn eventually.

Thought he was excellent in the euros before he moved to Real. Just my opinion anyway.

Does anyone else think he'd have been a good option for our problem position?

Believable0 Unbelievable12

07 Jul 2017 23:43:46
He is more injury prone than fabio aurelio.

08 Jul 2017 00:33:34
And nowhere near as good ;)

07 Jul 2017 21:36:57
Who do you think is the primary midfield back-up target to Keita? Oxlade-Chamberlain? Milinkovic-Savic? Rafinha?

As many people have suggested, the OX doesn't seem central enough to be a Keita replacement. Rafinha on the other hand.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

07 Jul 2017 22:38:12
Why do we need a replacement for Keita? Is he leaving us? I didn’t realize we got him to be honest. XD

Seriously though we have enough in midfield. Why do people still ask silly questions like we desperately need one? Even if we where getting Keita we would have to ship someone out to make room. His "replacement" is already an LFC player.

07 Jul 2017 22:55:05
Milinkovic-Savic has signed a new contract and is not going to happen. Ox is not a centre midfielder and never will be. Rafinha is a bench warmer at Barca, doesn't make much defensive contribution as a central midfielder, nowhere near as good as his brother. So none of those.

07 Jul 2017 23:55:10
I did say back-up target. Klopp wants another midfielder as he probably wants at least six quality midfield players, so each of the 3 positions has cover. If TAA is acting as right back cover, Lucas and Stewart leave, and Grujic doesn't make the grade, then we are short.

Though nobody would play the OX in the middle of a 3 man midfield he could well be used on either side of a trio. Rafinha definitely has defensive qualities and is frequently utilised at right back. An educated guess suggests Klopp would prefer someone who can play in the middle as a box to box midfielder and that's why we've been linked with so many of that type.

08 Jul 2017 20:28:17
Maybe you should allow things to play out in reality first before making changes as not a soul on earth knows for sure, if a very talented Grujic will not make the grade. Let us see for ourselves first and then make a judgment.

As for Rafinha, don't know the kid so not bothered. My feelings on the Ox is well documented so at this point, Ill let Klopp do his job.

07 Jul 2017 20:32:38
Forget about Keita. The priority should be to change our sponsors. Imagine if LFC, like RB Leipzig, were sponsored by Red Bull. They would fly in the Premiership lol.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

07 Jul 2017 23:19:38
Red bull gives klopp wings.

07 Jul 2017 23:44:22
This is a good idea, we would also be able to fly over any buses that the opponents park in front of goal xD

I hope we never have american owners again if/ when FSG sell 😩.

07 Jul 2017 18:52:47
A quick note for Bradley Lowery. Your smile warmed our hearts, your bravery inspired us all. R. I. P you beautiful and brave little boy. ❤️🙏🏻😪.

Believable14 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2017 19:27:21
Post of the day I'm my opinion. Good stuff Jim 🙏🏼.

07 Jul 2017 19:38:24
Really brave boy. Very sad.

07 Jul 2017 20:16:59
Let's also think about all the other children and their families who are in the same devastating situation but haven't had the same coverage or support.

07 Jul 2017 20:31:06
Very true Max, good post mate.

07 jul 2017 21:06:07
what a brave lad.

its humbling.

we parents take so much for granted

i'm going home now to give my 3 a hug.

rip bradley.

07 Jul 2017 20:54:09
Yea it really puts things in perspective when something like this happens. May he rest in peace.

08 Jul 2017 01:33:34
Man its so sad hey. I lost my 7 year old boy last year. Can relate, i feel for the family and friends.

Nothin is important aftet this happens.

07 Jul 2017 18:36:36
Ed
What is grujic situation I'm baffled to see how he will fit in but I want to him to fit in at the same time I really think with some game time and work on his fitness he could be unreal . Is he due to stay / sold / loan

Thanks.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is to stay and get game time or his work permit will be revoked.}

07 Jul 2017 20:18:26
He looked awesome last preseason. Not sure if it was protective and the right way or he just didn't do enough in training?

07 Jul 2017 20:36:15
Yeah last preseason he was on fire and made me think we had a right gem so was a shame not to see him this season much but I believe he did have an injury? don't know much about it mind. If he plays this preseason and performs like he did last time he deserves his chance should he be fit enough.

08 Jul 2017 20:35:55
Grujic came to us highly rated as top clubs were tracking him as he had the pick of the lot. It was Klopp's personal phone call to him that tipped the scale in our favor. The kid is very good technical, good shooting ability (with both feet) and powerful in the air as we have seen with that delicious header vs Barcelona last preseason. He was injured for most of last season but if he can stay fit, he will get his chances and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do.

07 Jul 2017 18:03:12
RIP Bradley. Just a quick mention for Jermain Defoe. What he did for that boy and his family is nothing short of heroic. It's very rare to see players in the public spotlight doing good deeds, let alone showing humanity, aiding a young supporter who idolised him and easing him through his last year of life.
If anybody on here has any kind of influence at Anfield with arranging matchday events then I would like to ask them whether they could organise the hugest standing ovation of an opposition player in our history when he visits our stadium this year.
I hope it wouldn't stop there either, everywhere he plays this year. He deserves it.

Believable13 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2017 22:50:16
Best part of it for me is Defoe did so much and didn't ask for recognition he just did it to make a young fan happy.

07 Jul 2017 17:21:40
Bradley Lowery. I never met you, but I learned a lot from you, a 6-year old kid.
You'll never walk alone.

Believable11 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2017 16:04:11
Not liverpool related but would just like to say R. I. P little bradley lowery. Showed so much fight for such a little lad. Massive respect to jermain defoe for all he done for him too. R. IP little man.

Believable23 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - very sad news mate..

07 Jul 2017 16:43:04
Exactly, puts life into perspective! When I heard that on my way home from work I just wanted to get home to give the little one a hug.

07 Jul 2017 17:06:15
Oh no the wee man died! So so sad I'm heartbroken for the family and also any family who lost a little one at any time.
R. I. P LITTLE ANGELS.

07 Jul 2017 17:16:34
News of bradley lowrey has absoulutley gutted me. Im never usually an emotional person but this has had me close to tears today, poor little fella.
RIP kid.

07 Jul 2017 17:50:02
Living literally a 10 minute drive away from my home that little lad has touched so many lives it's heartbreaking may he rest in peace, don't want to get to political but this is what the world should be fighting not each other horrible diseases fight to get rid not for oil.

07 Jul 2017 18:03:04
And here we are stressing about not signing a left back. RIP little man, true warrior.

07 Jul 2017 15:57:41
ED. all this transfer rubbish keita. Vvd. Lp are linked with everyone in the press.
Can you say in your honest opinion with info from your sources. LP likely transfers. I won't take it fact just your typical pub talk opinion.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer "likely" questions, I can tell you where Liverpool has shown interest in players.}

07 Jul 2017 15:54:59
Not Liverpool related but RIP Bradley Lowery and my condolences to his family #YNWA.

Believable18 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2017 16:08:47
Amen to that.

07 Jul 2017 16:10:00
Gutted to hear that, I only made a post this morning, didn't know he had passed since. YNWA.

07 Jul 2017 16:15:07
Devastating news. He is an inspiration, such a lovable and brave you man. Brought the whole footballing world together.

Just like to note Jermaine Defoe has earned my respect forever for what he has done for this young boy.

Rest in peace Bradley, YNWA.

07 Jul 2017 15:05:19
Hi eds
I really like Ryan Bertrand and I can't understand why klopp has no interest in him is there anything you see in him why klopp wouldn't want him. I. e. Not fit into our system or bad behaviour behind the scenes etc.
Am at a loss why we haven't sorted the LB position yet.
Thanks for your help.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Robertson from Klopp. Why do I need to repeat this every few hours?}

07 Jul 2017 15:28:13
the question is not about bertrand or robertson. the question that should be aimed at this club is how is it possible for a club with these resources still haven't purchased a left back?
i feel sorry for milner. people forget his stats just before the euros! he is far more valuable elsewhere.

07 Jul 2017 20:14:11
Because us Liverpool supporters are Goldfish Ed.

By the way, what's going on with Robretson? (Joke. )

07 Jul 2017 13:36:12
ED (1,2,25 or any other) is this a matter of keeping it under wraps and learning from our mistakes or from what I am getting from the vibes here, genuine lack of transfer activity?

On a secondary note, has transfer activity always been this much under the microscope I mean from the fans side, I do not remember it being this crazy even as recently as 2012/ 2013. Is it coz of the increased coverage from the media even the increase in the popularity of social media I think has contributed to the increased levels of craziness.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Two players have already been signed. If the window closes tomorrow night expect a flurry of transfer activity.}

07 Jul 2017 13:43:12
That works too ed, thanks for the reply.

07 Jul 2017 14:14:31
Lack of transfer activity? During Rodgers era, he signed 30+ players in 3 years (including loans of course) . Maybe unconsciously we fans actually preferred that kind of transfers activity; loads and loads and loads of them. And where this brought us to?

07 Jul 2017 14:58:57
Not lack of transfer activity, lack of involvement from people outside the club, i.e. media and fan frenzy.

In terms of lack of transfer activity or information available over the few days the transfer window has been open as my friend harry would gladly point out, I was asking if it is lack of activity or has the club learnt their lesson and not shouting everything from the roof top and keeping it under wraps.

07 Jul 2017 15:40:10
There is much more scrutiny of players and transfers now due to the availability of various social media platforms.

Could you imagine the meltdown on here if we were trying to sign an 18 year old centre forward from a lower league club who has had 2 season of first team football?

People would be going absolutely nuts that they weren't up to it, or the manager hadn't a clue, or FSG weren't prepared to invest.

Must have been a lot easier back in the day when you signed a player, let them settle in and then fans could judge their quality.

Oh, the lower league player i was referencing?

Ian Rush.

07 Jul 2017 17:45:38
Ian Rush wasn't signed to go into the first team straight away, so that isn't really a very good analogy, since he was in the reserves for a couple of years.

08 Jul 2017 17:42:10
So the analogy is absolutely spot on. Fans are desperate to sign worldies every single window
Those calling to sign Keita are happy to ditch Can and Grujic?

07 Jul 2017 13:22:04
So finally got Optus sport.
(The only legal way to watch premier league in Australia. )
Luckily my area has ridiculously fast net. Anyway.

They have some good stuff on demand. Was an interview with klopp where all the negativity on here was answered.
Also had a top ten goals and top ten saves of the season.
We had 2 out of 10 top goals.
Henderson Chelsea and can bicycle kick
And no saves.
Is that not the simplest way of summarising our season.
I saw saves from keepers that would of been certain goals.
Does our defensive issues start from the keeper?
Not saying ours can't, but don't seem to be leaders and breed confidence.
What I mean is if lovren had a confident keeper behind him would he relax and be better.
And he (as an example) was better, more composed, would the keeper relax more knowing that he's protected?

Just a space cadet thought, that maybe. Just maybe, we have the right person cb and gk but need confidence and communication.

The abuse of clyne is ott. Stellar athlete who gives everything. If it's not good enough fine but he gives all and as a fan is all I ask for.

So come on chaps. Don't be so negative. We're heading in the right direction. Who stays, who goes, who comes in.
Just be fans. I'm not saying it's our year but compared to some there's very little wrong with our squad.
Which will be beefed up.
Love the site. Appreciate most people's views and editors deserve a medal.

Believable10 Unbelievable5

07 Jul 2017 14:19:47
Great post.

Defensive mistakes and poor goalkeeping fom set pieces and open play have been our Achilles heel for the past few seasons.

While most people feel thst the problem lies with the quality of defender eg Lovren/ Klaven and goalkeeper eg. Mingolet/ Karius.

Klopp seems happy with all the players even awarding Lovren a huge new contract.
Klopp stated a few times last season when the defence or keeper were getting slated that he had spotted 5 mistakes by plauers ahead of the defence that could have prevented the goal.

I suppose that's why he gets the big bucks.

But for me all of the players mentioned above, have been up until now, way below what's required in a team capable the premier league.

But as I say Its Klopps reputation and job on the line, not mine,

The premier league will expose the weak managers as it did with what happened to Rodgers.

07 Jul 2017 13:05:37
Read somewhere, Three clubs have spend more than a billion since the new PL format and only one club has failed to win w PL tirle. Chelsea, City and Liverpool
Shame!
Where did we spend all those money?

Believable0 Unbelievable10

07 Jul 2017 13:22:19
Try looking at net spend if you're going to make such sweeping statements.

That being said, even that is a poor indicator of anything whatsoever.

07 Jul 2017 13:58:22
Also bear in mind that our spend has been over 25 years vs city who has been over about 10 years and Chelsea 15.

07 Jul 2017 14:24:13
Surely Utd have spent a billion also, last season alone they spent nearly £150k? A bit eye watering really even if net spend brings it down, we cannot say we haven't had the funds to invest in players, just goes to show on the main how badly we spent it! ☹️.

07 Jul 2017 14:33:27
big difference between spending a billion over 25 years and spending a billion over 10 harry. some context would be nice. man utd are close to half a billion in 4 years! admittedly in many instances we haven't spent well - undeniable but those teams spent the same in half the time which would tend to lead to a quicker rate to success.

07 Jul 2017 12:34:39
Please eds, this my question may look dumb or weird. But i want to ask, is Klopp in full control of lfc transfers? And why is he neglecting the positions which are apparently lacking in the lfc squad, for instance left back and right back?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - There is a transfer committee all of whom has an input or role to play but the club will only move for players Klopp wants.}

07 Jul 2017 13:03:43
Thanks for your reply Ed002. Hopefully they are doing the right thing by spoiling the club name chasing players of the positions that are choked in the lfc squad.

07 Jul 2017 13:15:33
Alhassen

You did not read his reply well. The club will bring only those players Klopp would prefer!

07 Jul 2017 12:15:36
Is Alexander expected to displace Clyne this season Ed1? I really hope so, could explain the lack of links to right backs also and this news of him getting another new contract. .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - challenge rather than displace.}

07 Jul 2017 17:31:54
Bet ya TAA will at some point hold on to the RB spot.

07 Jul 2017 11:36:18
Moan moan moan enjoy your summer people its going to be a long window for those constantly slating current players, players who haven't even kicked a ball for us may as well pack up the way some of you go on.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2017 11:58:26
I think we all need to calm down, go somewhere very quiet where nobody ever goes, away from the rumours and just relax. I'm thinking Everton's trophy room.

07 Jul 2017 12:27:57
Barrmun

Lol, Spurs wouldn't be a bad choice either ha ha.

07 Jul 2017 12:55:00
Only trying to wind up ed25 :)

{Ed025's Note - i have only just finished my dinner barrmun so im not biting mate.. :)

07 Jul 2017 11:35:14
Hi Ed01, can I get your opinion on Sakho? Do you think he is a great defender? I will be gutted when he goes as I really think him and Matip would be a great partnership. Do you think theirs a chance he could impress Klopp in preseason and change his mind about selling him or is Klopp really that stubborn?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - good yes, great no. I don't see anything about either Sakho or Matip to suggest either are great, nor that either would make up a great partnership. I would be shocked if he was given yet another chance after showing no contrition in reality.}

07 Jul 2017 12:19:38
Matip's calmness with the ball and Sakho's defensive side combined would make a very good player if you could take the best from both players!

07 Jul 2017 12:43:26
Extract DNA, wait 15-20 years and we've got ourselves a player, Welsh!

I always take the long term view ;)

07 Jul 2017 14:08:40
Exactly ed1 I don't even want him to be given another chance, he's an absolute fool who doesn't deserve to wear the shirt. Kind of winds me up people thinking he deserves another chance? He blew his chance, not welcome, we're better then that. I would like to think anyway.

{Ed001's Note - sadly the fans and club are no longer able to claim to be better. We used to be well run. We used to have knowledgeable fans who loved the club for what it was. Now we are a mess and the fans just want glory over doing the right thing.}

07 Jul 2017 14:56:11
This is why I love your opinion ed1, couldn't agree more mate. When you compare now to how it used to be it's actually quite depressing.

I love Liverpool, always have done and always will do but the club these days is an absolute shambles, not just because of how its run but because of how the fans are or some of them atleast and the image of our club is been ruined by people/ idiots like Sakho, and fans forgive and forget far too easily, why is that? because he's good? he's decent at best, id rather have a mediocre defender then him who can cause all sorts of hassle (think of Suarez) .

The right thing is to get rid of the fool, he should never be a professional footballer due to his stupidity. Same thing with Balotelli and Suarez yet people still to this day are defending Suarez? how? Yes he was good there's no doubting that, but an absolute idiot, why would we want that at Liverpool? are we not better? we was.

Sorry for going on, it's just a sore subject for me, times have changed.

{Ed001's Note - the club was not built on the best players, it was built on the right players for the team. That is what we need to get back to. The right players are not ones who only turn up for team meetings when they feel like it etc. It is all very well being a social media legend, but I would rather players deleted all social media and concentrated on doing their best for the club. If they are bored in their spare time, there are many thousands of worthy charities that are always in need of volunteers.}

07 Jul 2017 15:13:11
Thank you ed1 (for the second time today) . We are of the same opinions mate and I appreciate that. Shame we (as fans) seem to be the minority these days.

I'm going to shut up because I could go on forever about it, it winds me up how things have become. Guaranteed I'll have a reply by somebody saying I'm wrong but so be it, I saw Liverpool when it was genuine and had genuine passionate players who wanted to do well who were true role models and not go on and on making themselves look stupid (Sakho) like you say on social media.

It's all attention seeking this social media nonsense and I don't agree with it one bit, when a player signs for a club in my opinion it should be a regulation, they have to keep off it. But there you go. What can we do? got to love a good moan but truth is truth. Thanks again ed1, much appreciated mate.

{Ed001's Note - I agree, social media should be the club's domain only. You are very welcome.}

07 Jul 2017 23:21:22
Tbh i see salah as one of theae players we talk about. idont know exactly the whole story but from what i see he doesn't demand a great wage. He just wants to be here to play well. win trophies and do his best. Maybe its tinted glasses and maybe he sucked me in. But he seems a genuine bloke and i like that in a man. Let a lone a footballer!

07 Jul 2017 11:33:57
Hi ed. do you know of any real interest in demarai gray?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - this is for the Leicester site.}

07 Jul 2017 11:15:06
Personally i would prefer Ineacho to Lukaku, especially at the third of the price. But even if i place aside my red-tinted spectacles, i would take a 100% fit Danny Sturridge over either of them any day.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

07 Jul 2017 11:26:51
You're joking right? Ihaenacho (spelling) isn't half the player lukaku is, to suggest so is nothing short of moronic.

07 Jul 2017 11:29:32
Totally agree with you on Studge, better than both by a mile but only when fit and having self-confidence in his body not to let him down.

Personally, except when I'm playing Champ Manager, I've decided to stop sweating about fees. As Ed002 has said repeatedly, the murky world of football finance is more twisty and turny than a 'twisty-turny thing'. So I'm concentrating on who would improve the team most.

On that basis, I would still take Lukaku over Ineacho. The former has much more EPL experience and has delivered goals year on year. The price differential is irrelevant, especially to Man Utd.

07 Jul 2017 11:40:30
My Chelsea mate is on prayers lol. He wants Lukaku to flop at UTD ha ha 😄.

07 Jul 2017 10:40:07
My ideal summer transfer window be liverpool signing a descent left back and Joe Gomez stepping up as cover at CB. Tired of all this VVD and Keta frenzy. We have a good squad, who with just a bit more consistency are strong enough to challenge for title and CL .

Believable2 Unbelievable10

07 Jul 2017 10:48:23
I don't think we have a squad good enough to win the league, we are well short of that. Top six is about as good as we can go.

{Ed025's Note - nice to see your full of confidence going into the new season mate..

07 Jul 2017 10:57:13
I agree there. Think reliable left back would make us so much better. Milner could cover both rb and lb, Joe would get confidence as club would rely on him and we would have so much options. keita would be nice but if his club don't want to sell we should not look elsewhere as that position is not critical!

07 Jul 2017 11:01:14
Ed025 I'd rather be realistic than come out with that 'it's going to be our year' nonsense, because it clearly isn't!

{Ed025's Note - early days in this window yet mate, im sure you will be adding a couple of good players and be right up there again this coming season..

07 Jul 2017 11:03:24
We scrapped the 4th place barrel by a single point and fell off from the roof top by a massive 15 points and some think we are good enough with a Championshop LB And free signing youth! This was the reason Mr Brendan got the boots immediately after his good second season!

07 Jul 2017 11:06:10
Milner was actually one of the most reliable left backs in the league last year, shame that similar cannot be said of Clyne.

07 Jul 2017 11:11:24
I'm afraid you're a dreamer OP, Gomez might get some game time but certainly won't be making the CB spot his own this season. We've finally got CL football for the first time in 3 years and with some luck aren't selling any of our best players why would you not want to use our only opportunity in 3 years to try and bring in guaranteed top quality players? We need to capitalise on this opportunity because our rivals sure will.

07 Jul 2017 11:12:21
We do not have a good squad. It needs reinforced but we have first team quality to challenge. I'd think klopp would be hoping he can rely on a few more of the younger lads. And the likes of gomes and ings if we don't get the targets he is after.

07 Jul 2017 11:20:49
Red Panda I think our only problem is squad depth and hansens scar with consistency we can challenge for the title with what we have.

Remember we beat those around us with no problems.

07 Jul 2017 11:52:37
The quality of posts really does nose dive here during transfer windows, people getting wound up by speculation created by the media. Really can't wait for September to be here and the football to be in full flow, and actually getting behind whomever is wearing the jersey.

I think your hope is misplaced. during the season if we win a game we're going to win the league and we lose we're in freefall, changes need to be made etc.

I often wonder the age and mentality of some of the people writing the rubbish we are forced to read daily on here. I come on here to gather any knowledge off the editors and some of the genuine posters but have to read through the tripe first. it reminds me of shopping in Tk Maxx, some cracking pairs of jeans on a rail amongst absolute rubbish!

Anyway, we are obviously going to sign players, everyone knows we need to. We will have players departing for various reasons plus we have the extra champions league games (hopefully) to contend with. We've obviously missed out on our first choice players but there's still quality players attainable I just hope we don't leave it too late in the window and over pay when desperate!

Harry, if we scraped top 4 or got there 10 points clear it means the same thing my friend. look at the 2 big clubs who finished below us, the league is getting more and more competitive each season and we need to spend wisely to improve our squad to keep up there with the rest. People need to stop the negativity and the whining until the window closes and we have failed to fill the positions needed. until then just enjoy the ride!

Oh and I must say, Es 025 I respect your honest opinion when you talk about the red half, you give praise where it's warranted but are quick to point out the many failings. you could easily be negative about anything Liverpool being a blue nose! Nice one mate, enjoy reading your replies.

{Ed025's Note - cheers welsh, i do try and be impartial but sometimes a little blue devil appears on my shoulder mate.. :)

Not Liverpool related I know but no matter what, thoughts are with the boy Bradley Lowery's family. Bloody terrible news he's 'close' poor people, puts life into perspective a bit doesn't it? Many of us have our own children, the thought of what that family has gone through doesn't bare thinking about.

How do them parants keep going?

It reaaly makes you think about what kind of God would let so many horrendous things happen to vunrable babies while tossers like Putin and Trump thrive and prosper.

It just doesn't make sense.

YNWA.

07 Jul 2017 10:22:55
Indeed Dermot exactly my thoughts mate.

07 Jul 2017 09:25:46
Haven't posted for a long time, but felt the need to now. Some of you have got to show a lot more patience, some of the things I read on here are getting silly. It is the 7th July and people are already criticising our signings for the window. There is plenty of time remaining. I get that things haven't gone great with VVD, but those asking the club to pay £60-£70million on Keita are having a laugh. He looks like a very promising player, but in a position that doesn't need the focus of our investment. I am all for squad depth, but you would be throwing a lot of the transfer pot in for a player who will improve us of course, but will not be able to prevent us from suffering in areas we have done so for the past 7 or 8 seasons.

Stop sulking and screaming, put the toys back in the pram, and let's see what happens.

Totally agree Londoner. We should move on from VVD and Keita and look at other quality additions to the defence and potentially another winger as cover for Mane and Salah.
I would be happy with a fullback in the mold of Dalbert or Bertrand and move Milner to RB. A solid CB other than VVD, and a young winger like Martins or Gray (Or promote Ojo or Wilson) Potentially a centre mid if Can leaves.
More importantly though is getting players off the books first - Sakho, Markovic, Stewart, Lucas, Moreno, maybe even Ward ( I know other may disagree but he won't play and he's worth more now than he likely will be next year after not playing) and one of Ings, Origi or Studge must surley leave. Personally I hope we keep Origi, has shown some real promise.

07 Jul 2017 09:06:38
Eds, is there any movement in the club to get in a defensive coach to work with the team especially on defending set pieces. We are awful at defending these and surely it would make sense to get someone in to improve this glaring weakness.
I think even bringing in a new CB or fullback we will still have the same concentration and positional problems until we get in a def coach, thoughts?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know of any new coaches being brought in to work with the defence.}

07 Jul 2017 09:35:47
Id prefer a new goalkeeping coach personally.

07 Jul 2017 09:42:42
Ed01, do you think it would be a good idea?

{Ed001's Note - no, what we need to do is allow the players to figure it out themselves. They are so overcoached and so cannot think for themselves. That means they struggle to adjust to what is happening on the pitch and so are vulnerable.}

07 Jul 2017 09:47:02
Hi eds why do you think there is a problem with defence these days not just us but most teams. Are the coaches to blame, the players? Are attacking players better than they were years ago? I don't understand why defences are so poor with all the coaching they receive. Are they overcoached?

{Ed001's Note - as I said in the reply above, the players are not given the freedom to sort out basics on the pitch themselves. These days they are shown sheet after sheet of who picks up who etc at every set piece, which means the opposition can just change their set up to create an opening or an overload in one part of the pitch.}

07 Jul 2017 09:59:58
ED1 may I ask what your views are on Achterberg? to me it's pretty simple, he's not good enough, he's not upped Mignolets game one bit and I fear for Karius under him because Karius to me can be a hidden gem with the right coaching. How long as he been first team coach 5 or so years? we need better. Right or wrong just my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - he is a coach that is learning though, he should not have been the main goalie coach initially, but now he has earned his badges and taken things on a level. Last season Mignolet's improvement at the end of it was down to the training that he and his fellow coaches did. The question is whether that came from him or not? If he came up with the new training program, then he deserves to continue on as he is.}

07 Jul 2017 10:24:09
Cheers ed mate. I was unaware thanks for sharing.

{Ed001's Note - that's ok mate. He was on courses last summer to get his final badges. The issue is that we had a rookie coach, when he should have had an experienced coach to learn from.}

07 Jul 2017 13:52:43
Appreciated ed1 for your time.

07 Jul 2017 08:56:17
Looks like the Keita deal will not happen this summer at least. Maybe Klopp will get more funds to spend on a decent LB and CB now. Keita would have been a luxury anyways (albeit a fine CM imo) considering we have abundance of quality in midfield with Couts, Can, Hendo, Lallana, Gini and Grujic.
Just pay up now for better alternatives for LB and CB than Robertson or Mammana.

Hi another first time poster.
If we want to win the EPL and CL during JK contract.
Who of our current players do you think are good enough and who of our reserve/ youth players have the potential to make it at that level?

Keep up the good work eds.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

07 Jul 2017 08:16:27
I'd say Coutinho, Mane, Can, Matip, Firmino and possibly Salah knowing his ability at Roma/ Basel. For youth and reserve wise i'd say Solanke (Potential) and Ejaria if he bulked up bit more, again he's got the all the tools to be a top midfielder, possibly Woodburn aswell?

07 Jul 2017 08:25:19
Youngster wise Ojo, Wilson, Ward, Gomez, TAA and Woodburn - to me they all have quality what can lead to something great, especially Ojo and TAA.

Our first team - Coutinho, Sturridge (if fit), Firmino, Lallana, Hendo, Salah, Wijnaldum and Mane stand out to me, I can certainly see them players in a title winning side. The rest? a lot is debatable such as Matip, I liked what I saw from him considering it was his first season with us but he needs better support. But some are just plain and simple not good enough, like Lovren, Klaven, Moreno. Migs is also one of them to be debated, he looked decent towards the end of the season but overall he's not been good enough.

07 Jul 2017 09:28:33
At the end of the day, it's a team game. Leicester won it with good form, decent defence, no injury worries and rode their luck a few times. Anyone can beat anyone in the prem nowadays.
Honestly, I don't think we have any 'world class' players, coutinho maybe the closest but needs to improve on his consistency. But we do have a very good squad who play very good football at times. Need to solidify the defence and hopefully not get any big injuries to key players and should be able to give it a good go!

07 Jul 2017 09:36:01
Coutinho, firmino, mane, salah, sturridge, wijnaldum, Lallana, matip and mignolet (controversial I know but based on form of second half of season)
Potential - grujcic, origi, taa, ejaria, ojo for me
Woodburn and wilson possibly also.

07 Jul 2017 14:06:24
Its more of is Klopp capable of winning the EPL or CL or not. Even if we have Messi Ronaldo and Suarez in the same team it still depends on the manager to win the Epl. Yes we should have great first 11 and a very strong bench but ultimately its the manager.

07 Jul 2017 18:45:54
Hi thanks for the replies.
Pretty much agree our attacking options are going to take some besting this year.
Food for thought though that the general opinion is we don't have a back four that's good enough.
Would like to see TAA, Wodburn, Gomez, Ings, Solanke, Ojo and Ward stay for a full season training under Klopp and hopefully playing cup games. Got some good homegrown potential there for the quota (if Ward counts)

07 Jul 2017 06:45:14
Hi everyone have you read the article sky put out on Lukaku to man u explained. It says that he told Gary Cotterill last month he knew where he was going months ago. This suggests some deal was in place. Is this not tapping up?

Believable6 Unbelievable5

07 Jul 2017 07:17:19
Could be, But Everton was aware the player would be off this summer and they will have no complaints if UTD pay them the money they value the player.
I wouldn't complain if Palace pay up £30 mill for Sakho given he has agreed personal terms.

07 Jul 2017 07:37:04
Face palm****

It's only tapping up if they speak directly to the player. Firstly, it may not have been Man Utd he was talking about and the landscape could have chafed since then.

Secondly, whichever club he was talking about could have sounded out Lukaku through his agent to say we're planning to make an offer to Everton, would Rom be interested in joining our club. The agent asks Rom (not the buying club) . Rom says yes. Buying clubs goes ahead with negotiations.

07 Jul 2017 08:08:20
You have to be able to prove it and if you can't, it is not tapping up. No one really knows what happened and even if it was tapping up, as long as Everton get the fee they want, they won't care. The same thing happened to Salah when we signed him from Roma, per Ed02. We tapped him up and Roma found out. What happened? They shafted us for m more money, we paid it to avoid another embarrassment and all parties were happy. This happens all the time. Now, we got caught cos a) we were guilty and b) it was all over the media and Saints (who wanted a bidding war) got mad that they wouldn't get one, which of course is their right.

07 Jul 2017 09:33:47
So if Southampton get the fee they want they surely won't care then regarding VVD 😉.

07 Jul 2017 08:43:07
87 its been mentioned many times on here that talking with the agent before getting permission from the selling club is still tapping up.

{Ed002's Note - No. That is not completely true. Clubs can talk to the agent - but there are limitations - I have explained that.

The process should be along the lines of: Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. There may be some broad discussion on the sort of deal that would be offered but no more than that. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent formally about a transfer and possibly even the player about actually making a move. This will typically involve either broadly (through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. Many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.

Agents will often try and get more specific details of wages and other financials before they should - but most clubs are happy to follow this process. Players will often talk to other players about moves but, whilst wrong, is tolerated as it would be impossible to manage.}}
