EDS. what time or day would be best to come back on this page if we lose can't see it myself but just to be sure

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - probably sometime in May.....}

3 points in the bag

Tomorrow". just don't lose. I'd love 3points (obviously) but think a point would do.

Let's hope we get the midfield right!

EDs any chance of a voting poll on safe standing?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - what question would you like asked?}

Just 3 really:
1. clear no
2. at other grounds fine but not anfield
3. bring safe standing to anfield and bring back the KOP

thanks mate

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - done: http://www.liverpool-rumours.co.uk/poll15.htm

Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no worries.}

More volume, hopefully cheaper tickets & greater revenue. It can be done safely, look at Dortmund, we could sure learn a lot of lessons from them in terms of how to become self sustainable. Obviously Hillsborough puts a lot of people off, and I mean absolutely no disrespect by this, but we've come a long way in terms of the technology, and we can't discount the problems with Wednesday's stadium. I genuinely think it'll help the atmosphere of the stadium and furthermore boost our revenue which will inevitably expand our scope in the transfer market.

YNWA
JFT96

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - except that the ground is limited to 60k anyway, until the area around it is improved. We are going to be getting to 60k with seats, though unfortunately not cheaper tickets and so a greater revenue for the club. Safe standing really doesn't make sense to Liverpool, unless there is over 80k people allowed into the stadium.}

Here's the debate:

-Why is it called "safe standing"?
Because it is perceived to be safe as there have been no tragedies since it was introduced.

-How long has it been around?
Less than 20 years.

-How long was "unsafe" standing around before there was a tragedy?
A lot longer than 20 years.

-Is it safer than all seater stadia?
Absolutely not.

So basically some fans, including fans of LFC, want the club to prioritise club revenue over safety of the fans.
I just cannot find any situation where that is morally acceptable.

It is called "safe standing" now because there hasn't been a tragedy YET. But one day, God forbid, like "unsafe standing" there could be. It should not be used at any ground ever in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am really torn on this question of safe standing. On the one hand there is the improvements in technology, the "lessons (hopefully) learned, " and the fact that one of the major impact factors on the Hillsborough Disaster was the fencing designed to stop people getting onto the pitch. Surely now with the caging gone, this type of incident could not recurr.
But then I am on a regular basis mindful of the 96, and their families, and the grief, and think should we ever put anyone through this/at risk of this again?
I really do not know. JFT96

Ahoy - and must say I am looking forward to tomorrow's treats.

Always a game I look forward to (sentimental) - my first ever visit to Anfield saw us beat Arsenal 2 - 0 with two of the greatest slug balancers in our history bagging the goals.

In the Official History of slug balancing our scorers that day (Terry Mc & David Johnson) both out rank Tom Selleck, G. Souness, & Kirsty Allsop for quality top lip embellishments.

BOILED ONIONS.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not a cricket fan? David Boon or even the now clean shaven Mitchell Johnson?

Banter please Eds,

Evening gent's,

Big day tomorrow and I'm obviously hoping for a win but from a Gooners viewpoint, it's going to be very tough.

Have heard you will be without Johnson, Lucas, Agger, Sakho and Enrique, although I do believe that's been the case for a while now.

Will you miss these players against us tomorrow? Please say yes, lol.

Whatever happens, I would be fairly happy with a point, although if we have any ambitions of winning the prem, we have to go away to the big boys and snatch 3 points. We have a decent record at Anfield, so I hope it continues.

I'm going to be a bit cheeky and predict a 2-1 win for us (smiles).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Dagenham

You shouldn't be worrying about our boys at the back who are out. You should be worrying about Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho who are going to give your boys hell. 3-1 to the Reds.
Ps If we can't do the improbable and win the title I'd love your boys to beat Citeh and the Rent Boys to the premier league crown

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank's NRed, spoken like a true gent.

(Yes, that front 4 does worry me btw)

Agree0 Disagree0

If either team wins I suspect it is going to be 2-0, just have 'that' feeling!

Agree0 Disagree0

In the interest of balance Nred
I am very very worried about Suarez Sturridge and Sterling! having said that I fancy us to get something from tomorrow either a very good point or without question our best result of the season a 0 1win.
But should neither happen I will comeback on this page tomorrow to congratulate you and wish you the best for the rest of the season

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to say we will need to score at least two because I worry that we will struggle to keep a clean sheet. Hopefully, we can start quick with a high pressing tempo. Wishing the boys the best of luck.

Agree0 Disagree0

Be fair to say Arsenal haven't been performing as well these past 2 away games?
Saints away and I think it was Villa where you looked average but still picked up points (sign of champions some might say)
I do feel though if that away form continues you'll come unstuck against us. Hopefully anyway. Here's to the rest of the season though, I hope you win it

Agree0 Disagree0

Usual respect to the arsenal gents, at the Emirates you fellas played us a blinder, I expect anfield will be different fellas

Good luck for the league but hope we take the points tomorrow

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd just be happy with a clean sheet, regardless of whether we score or not, given out defensive problems. Can't see it being goalless though. And to answer your question Dagenham, yes, we are weaker without Sakho and Agger IMO, though not really Johnson on latest form. Certainly we miss Lucas. Didn't realise how much we missed Enrique until Aly showed up. I'd prefer Flano at LB and Kelly at RB.

The nerves are starting to go in the belly for tomorrows game against the Gunners .

If ever there was a time to beat them its tomorrow.

If can sort out our fragile defence and get at them like recent Everton game we can turn them over.

Am going for a tight win, with Cissokho grabbing the winner . Well it is the banter page! Ha ha

The Echo reporting Chelsea number1 target is guess who?

No not Bentner!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Cavani? Diego Costa?}

Report?

Another poster who doesn't read the echo properly.

It'll be Costa

It says suarez, but its the rumours section of the echo.

Evening Ed.
When is Lucas expected to be back, any idea mate?
Looking forward to the game tomorrow. If we win, and I really do think we will, it could put the skids on the Gooners who still have to go to Stamford Bridge, Goodison, White Hart Lane
JFT96

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is expected back at the start of next month.}

Looking at our terrible record against arsenal at anfield, I think a draw would be a good result

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Records are there to be broken.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah, terrible record or not, we should look to make a statement to the top clubs tomorrow starting with the gooners.

Great Club, great history, great players, but we have all of that too, why should'nt we expect to win big games at home? The 3 teams above us do and 2/3 of them got lucky.

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance.

On our day we're as good as ANY of the teams above.

Agree0 Disagree0

"Records are made to be broken" I know just look at all the records Moyes is smashing at old trafford!

Hi Ed1, I hope yr well and looking forward to the match tomorrow. I was interested in your opinion on 2 matters if you would be so kind.

Firstly, with no left winger arriving do you think we will need one in the summer or do you think Ibe will be given the chance next season?

Secondly, if all goes well and we qualify for the CL, how many players and in what positions (first team or cover) do you feel we need to have a good go on all fronts next year?

Many thanks for your time,

Bryan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I expect that the club will press on with trying to acquire a left winger. As for what players, we would need a couple of central mids and another couple of wingers, plus a left back. Maybe just one winger, rather than two, if all our loans return and stay for next season.}

Thanks Ed. Let's hope we qualify, it would be a great boost and fitting end to what's been a great season so far. I think we will need to take some good points off the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City but so far so good.

It will be an exciting summer hopefully but no doubt difficult with players waiting til after a World Cup, prices going up, gazumping and all that good stuff.

Thanks again

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm surprised Ed that you did not mention that we need one really good centre back.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we have Sakho, Agger, Toure and Kelly, 4 is enough.}

I think Agger will leave personally. We should go buy a big German defender, I have no idea who, but I'd be putting some scouts in Germany they're notorious for moulding great CB's IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

Instead of looking for players in maybe its easier to look at who would give us a strong bench. I think a bench of ward, toure, kelly, allen, henderson, borini, suso would be really strong. a player i'd like to replace like for like is gerrard as he's obviously the wrong side of 30. my ideal player would be pogba!

To all Eds

Guys and Girls, I take my hat off to you!
All through the season and extremely more so during the two transfer windows you put up with all our (us fans) good, silly and sometimes downright stupid questions or queries. We really will not have anywhere else to go if it wasn't for the efforts that you Eds put in.

A great 'Thank you' for me and (I'm sure) all Liverpool fans.

Many thanks Guys, your hard work is appreciated.

Has anyone seen the bbc plebsite. de boer saying he could see himself managing Liverpool or the spuds giving it the big "clubs with history yar-de-yar"

Two quezzies. Firstly, with respect, spuds?. history?.really?

Secondly, to be fair, he's rocking the Dutch league. who you take him over Mr R?

Personally I'd stick with buck.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Spurs have a strong history, you really should show a bit of respect.}

As I stated ed "with respect", I solely meant in comparison with Liverpool, thematically I felt that came across as they were the subject teams of the post.

Purely banter for the "banter" page.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I really think you have a misunderstanding of what history is. Their history is no different from ours, it is just past events, unless you are trying to jabber on about trophies won?? In which case, who cares? They are of no relevance to who is a big club now. Right now, Spurs have finished above us the last few years, they have a lengthy and interesting history, how can they not be mentioned in the same breath as us? I really don't get the point of anything you said apart from it being a typical living in the past fan failing to see what is going on now.}

Quite easy to "live in the past" when the entire point De Boer made was "history" ed.

Should he of been quoted citing "current standings" I'm sure my post would of been more to your tastes.

Admittedly I was basing the post on trophies won, as most supporters would, but I am more than happy to acknowledge the individual history of any club.

Surely you can expect a degree of bias/humour in opinion on this page. as it is the Liverpool page. the Liverpool banter page.

I would like to apologise for offence as I've been an avid visitor for years and appreciate the commitment the eds put in. but I won't, for reasons in the penultimate paragraph.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no offence caused mate, I just find the whole 'we won so much so let's put every other club who won less down' distasteful. It shouldn't be about what we won. It should be about the characters who represented the club. Shankly won a lot less than many, but I would far rather be remembered for him than someone such as Mourinho. That was the point I was trying to make. Leave the glory stuff for the glory hunters, who just follow whichever team is winning this week.}

Weeeeelllll maybe I am guilty of living in the past, I was fortunate enough to watch the sides in the late 70's onwards ed and work hard to suppress the success of other teams since the Bpl.

Fully acknowledge the point you make regards the "depth" of the origin of the history. Of any club.

Thanks for the exchange ed, take it easy

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry that I didn't explain myself properly, it is just one of those things I hate, the 'big club' thing.}

Spurs are a massive club.

Any manager would be tempted for that job with the quality of players at their disposal and the consistent transfer funds from season-to-season.

The lure of London also helps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone ever seen / got any links of footage of Liverpool v Spurs 1973 UEFA Cup semi final?

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair. I was just looking for any opinions on rogers vs de boer. Be jebus!

So tomorrow the season really gets under way as far as I'm concenred -

We are in a mini league with Everton, Manchester United and Spurs - we have a two point head start and a vastly superior goal difference.

14 games to go - probably the most potent strike force in the league and some players almost back from injury which will help.

I am optimistic about are chances of finishing fourth - my big worry is our defending. Against Everton it felt like the back four were happy to just defend and not worry about too much football being played . I know the way we try and play is from the back but I hope we can concentrate on defending first and let the other creative players do their stuff . Kolo isn't Alan Hansen and Skrtl isn't Phil Thompson - so please . just defend!

Heres hoping -

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You can remove United from this "mini league" as they're useless.

Agree0 Disagree0

They will beat fulham so we must take 3pts

I know you don't like speculating eds but for all I know you could have some info.

Over the course of the season murmurings have built up regarding Messi possibly looking for a new challenge in the summer at possibly city.

A couple of pundits haven't said that he will go but have more postulated that it may be in his interest to seek this new challenge.

Have you got any info or have any input on the matter eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Why are you asking on the Liverpool page?}

07 Feb 2014 13:20:08
He's asking here Ed because everyone knows that in the summer when Suarez leaves he will be going to Barcelona in a player plus cash deal.

Suarez in return for Messi + £80m

Seems about fair, although Messi is injury prone.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

I asked here because 1) this is pretty much the only sight I look at/post on. 2).as I stated I was looking to see if you had any personal information or view. if you didn't want to divulge it or didn't have any you could have quite easily said so.
Regards.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There are pages for Barcelona and Chelsea - the point is that we don't want the Liverpool page cluttered up with discussion about other clubs.}

07 Feb 2014 12:05:27
HI eds,

Hav LFC scout Salih Ucan? Seems like a good DM/CM to compete with Lucas. Hw much his values nowadays?

Other that Rabiot, Mvilla, Fernando whoelse LFC target for defensive mid? We need to strengthen this position badly in the summer if we need to compete at highest level.

Another one, if Suso will be in LFC squad next season, which position Rodgers will put him? is it winger of attacking mid to compete with Coutinho & Alberto?
Or do LFC planning to buy another attacking mid?

Tqvm.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest in Ucan as far as I know. I think you may have been misled over some of the targets. Try the search engine for Suso.}

07 Feb 2014 12:10:40
Hi Eds,

If Liverpool were to qualify for the CL, how much money would the club generate by getting to say the last 16?

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Around £25M-£30M.}

Im told the figures are approx 30mil just for being in the group stages.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You have been told wrong.}

From what I understand if Liverpool fc win every single game in the group stage they can make a maximum of 16.7m euros. then a further 3.5m euros for reaching the first knockout round, then 3.9m if we progess to the quarter final, 4.9 for the semis and 10.5 for winning the final or 6.5m for finishing runners up.

the other source of income is the market pool and of course the revenue for selling out anfield. the game revenue would be around 1.8m a game and the market pool i'm not too sure about but from what I understand could be between 14m and 24m. all figures in euros

sorry if my figures are inaccurate but i'm just trying to give people a rough idea

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2014 11:12:19
Ed001 with Liverpool crying out for a fast left winger in January does that not spell bad news for suso? Also what role do you see ibe playing next year?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no, Suso is not a winger. Ibe I expect to be a regular sub or on loan for the season, next season.}

Is suso not playing right wing on loan?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's obvious that Suso will be a playmaker operating in the middle. He's young and youngsters generally start out wide due to it been seen as less of a risk.

Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate suso has been playing as a winger throughout his entire time at Liverpoo, only for spain does he play central mid.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2014 09:22:13
Eds and reds,
How likely do you consider these players as targets for the summer?
Obviously the summer is a while away, so there will be no definite interest but could Liverpool stand a chance at buying these players?

Micah Richards, Fabio Coentrao, Ryan Bertrand, Yann M'Vila, Michu.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I can tell you when I know of interest but I can't reasonably be expected to speculate like this.}

07 Feb 2014 09:03:33
Got this from an Arsenal fan page
'Wenger is 100% right, you can't setup a game plan to stop SAS because most of the time its just through ball after through ball until one of them gets on the end of one them. Its similar to them certain FIFA players who just constantly do the over the top through ball until one of them eventually lands and its annoying as hell but 1/10 will land and they score.
So the best thing you can do is completely dominate the ball and possession and limit the amount of balls, that can be played into them'
so reds, what are your thoughts on this game plan?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would prefer switching to the other team and scoring loads of own goals :-D

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Attack attack, attack attack attack!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sadly I'm one of the lob through ball players to pace over the top or out wide haha!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it is a little unfair to suggest that is our only tactic. It is a useful plan B for teams who play a high line with a less than rapid defence and/or teams who are just not awake to the threat (see 2nd Sturridge goal vs Everton). Arsenal love pure football and they really do play excellent stuff, I admire their philosophy. I dislike how they look down on every other club that doesn't play it as beautifully as them - its snobbish - football would be a boring game if everybody played the exact same way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ignore it. Dumb comment.

First, we have put several goals past and well beaten teams which had more possession than us. So they can dominate possession as far as I am concerned.

Second, this guy needs to watch a tape of our first half performance against Villa away at the beginning of the season if the thinks that is all we do.

Third, their defence probably can't stop SAS and they know it so he is making his excuses early.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2014 01:22:51
Do any of the eds have information on Alex Song's situation at Barca? Is he possibly on the way out in the Summer or in their plans? I'm sure Arsenal would be pretty interested in taking him back but I think he would be a great signing for Liverpool. Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool or Arsenal in the player. Barcelona's plans for summer departures is far from clear to me right now.}

07 Feb 2014 00:57:15
There is a rather good piece on the ssn website about Liverpool's loan stars Borini, Assaidi and Suso it does raise some interesting points about the types of players we tried to sign in January. check it out not a bad read

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Saw that to, it is a good read. If the scenario play's out and we qualify for champions league. I would love to see all 3 back and told by Brenden. Ok you will start every league cup game every fa cup game. Push for 1st team place and you'll get your chance with injuries ( or merit ).
