Ed I need your opinion on this ffp clubs have agreed on, for me I think its going to be a struggle for other clubs only united and arsenal generate a lot of revenue, now with the ffp they would be the only clubs who can buy those world class players, only if Liverpool and co can find more source of revenue, then we are in for a long ride {Ed002's Note - No, don't worry too much.}

Hi eds,
How big an effect on lfc do you think the restrictions on club lossess will have? Do you think it will impact the stadium plans?
Cheers,
Redchris {Ed002's Note - It will have no impact on the stadium.}

Out of respect do you think we could put a ban to all Jamie Carragher 'rumours'? Think it would be a lot more tasteful to enjoy Carra's swansong for what he is, a Red. And not debating his 'tv career' etc.

Could post this and let the people decide

can any of you answer this one for me?

which 3 players have scored the most goals past Liverpool since the premier league started?

answers on a post card please

Berbatov, drogba and Henry

Interested to see who the 3 are, I restrained from putting carragher in my 3 ;)
CQ

1st Andy Cole, 2nd Thierry Henry, 3rd Jamie Carragher (own goals!)

Gav

Probably hazard a guess, in no particular order, at Shearer, Drogba and boldly go out on a limb here and say Carra's total amount of own goals.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

I'm going to say Andy Cole, Shearer then Carra with 11, 8, 7 goals respectively.

LMAO off some of today's posters on here, posting half hearted sentimental messages to carra?Do you really think he reads these pages? Even if he ever did i'm confident he would have stopped visiting these pages after reading some of your posts slating him for years.

I reckon Van Persie, Henry are two of them, not sure on the third maybe drogba?

I have to put up my own tribute to Jamie Carragher

A legend in every sense of the word;

Not one to be kissing the badge - his performances show us how much he loves the club.

He gives his all in every match and expects the same from those around him - and he'll let them know if they're not!

Strong, both mentally and physically, he never, ever turns his back to the ball - he'll throw himself at it!

He is a leader and model professional who loves the game in which he still has a future, albeit in another capacity, and hopefully with LFC.

We can only dream of a team of Carraghers.

Digger

No but turns his back on his country! Just above average centre half {Ed001's Note - so what? Scouse not English, England never deserved him.}

Spot on Ed. Carra was treated appalingly by England, never appreciated and always along for the ride but never played, even when he was in far better form than the others. He didn't turn his back in England, England just became an irrelevance. And then when he was wanted, he did his duty, and was promptly screwed over by a ref in the penalty shoot out. He couldn't win.

ND

08 Feb 2013 09:52:26
I am not a Liverpool fan, and applicative the Carra was always available for England, but was he was no better than Terry, Ferdinand or a fit Ledley King.

Unfortunately he was always going to be 3 / 4 choice CB, but should have picked when one of the first choice players was injured and not ignored. To be overlooked time and time again was harsh. It reminded me of Chris Sutton being told to play for England be when he was outscoring all of the other English strikers. It goes to show that the England team has picked itself for far too long and the best players at the time have not always played for their country.

Ed, get a life fella, very pathetic! {Ed001's Note - what is pathetic about it? Who gives a monkey's about England?}

07 Feb 2013 21:50:30
Sad that Jamie's retiring, great servant. I see loads of, great player since his debut etc etc. I remember 2003, 04 when he played right back people wanted him gone. He was woeful, couldn't get forward etc etc. I was one of them, but since he moved CB he was immense, a friend of mine claims Jamie could take a gun and shoot a striker on the goal line and never get a peno.

Dublad

Even if he shot somebody, he could claim he was going for the ball. Would you disagree with Jamie Carragher and his weekly bouts of white line fever?

I would not.

Cheers for the loyalty and pride you showed in a Liverpool shirt - you'll always be a credit to the club.

Time however waits for no man especially in the world of football.

So thanks for the memories and games where you put your heart, soul and effort for the cause.

We now need to find a CB with your level of effort and determination to succeed.

No player is bigger than the club and I'm not one to get attached to players who kiss the badge yet come and go.

However you are LFC through and through and nobody can question your commitment to us.

All the best Carra!

Carra to come on for cameo last 20 minutes of last game, and score the winner to put us in top4?

Whos tempted?

Carra to come on and score in the uefa cup final, luckily we're 2 up so we can afford the own goal!

Seriously, thanks Jamie, legend.

07 Feb 2013 20:55:48
Eds now that Carra has announced his retirement, what's the odds of #23 shirt being retired with him?

Aaron {Ed002's Note - Seems a flakey thing to do for me.}

07 Feb 2013 22:09:48
I don't think Carra would want that. The best thing he'd want is to see (and possibly coach) a youngster from Liverpool, who comes in and fights to get the number 23 shirt.

Jolly Red

Won't happen. I love Jamie, one of my favourite footballers of the current generation in world football.
But, to think his number will be retired, given the calibre of players at the club over our long history.

If I was a betting man, and I am. I would say it's at very, very long odds for this to happen.

Bit different in the past when the numbers could be changed very week per player.

Squad numbers now allow for this and for me 700+ games warrants that accolade

Marshy

We have had better players wearing number 7 etc its daft to even think about retiring shirt numbers just remember carra has he is/was a good player for us like hunt, st john, keegan etc

Maybe his son will be the next Liverpool Legend to wear the #23. YNWA Carra

Felt like being punched in the guttoday after hearing about carra, was very close to having an emotional breakdown. If carra doesn't get a job as one of the bootroom staff then that is the time to be fuming with fsg, ian ayre and co not over transfer budgets. Having carra at Liverpool is 1000 times more important and meaningful than bloody sugar daddies, have some pride for all those who believe we need to buy messi.

Thankyou carra for everything, true living legend, simply irreplcable. YNWA

Anonymous woolback

What if he doesn't want to stay at Liverpool. No-one can make him. He might want to learn the managment trade in a lower division and work his way up.

am I on the right page?. for months now jamie carragher has been getting dogs abuse on here, shame on you!

From some, not everyone mate!

Cuchulainn's Hounds

I don't see anything is wrong with occasionally pointing out or criticizing certain players' performances when they're below par, and costing the team points. During and right after some losing games people understandably frustrated or overheated. But we know we all make mistakes, life goes on and we support the team and each players.

Ed could you put the Pepe Reina-Be Careful What You Wish For video up just to show all the fans the reason he is still at the club?
Cheers,
LS7. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you are talking about - give us a link and we can all enjoy it.}

Refer to any Michael Owen videos. The amount he hasn't played since leaving Liverpool should mean he can carry on until he's 68!

Apart from manc lawrenson, how many ex players ever have anything but good things to say about he club?

Yes, they mightn't get the games they wanted etc etc but everyone of their lives have been enriched by being part of the anfield dynasty.

That said, I think pepe probably needs to move on for both parties sakes, especially after his recent remarks, as clearly he's not happy, and its the one position on the field that any club needs 100% commitment.

Ed with Jamie retiring at the end of the season do you think we will make more of an effort to win the Europa League? Would love to have Carra ending his career lifting the Europa League as captain!
Cheers mate,
TedRed. {Ed002's Note - It will not make a difference.}

Wtf you think just cause Carragher retiring we would play better to win, so if he wasn't retiring should we sit back and relax? John a

We're we not bothered about winning it before?

John a. I know it sounds silly, and will more than likely mean nothing. But motivation can come about from things like this. It's amazing what an extra 1% can do in football.

There'll be a huge void left which will be difficult to fill once Carra hangs up his boots at the end of the season. Sorely missed, he epitomized the Liverpool way, a perfect example to the likes of Sterling, suso, etc who are now breaking into the first team. Legend.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Exactly right. For the person fans who think it's all about what happens on the other side of that white line. Don't be so short-sighted.

What a man like this can add to the club as a whole, is immense. His leadership and no-frills approach to life in general, will be sorely missed by the younger players. Whether they understand the impact of a mentor like this or not, they need something to keep their feet on the ground. Thankfully, I really see these qualities in B. Rodgers. But, i'd love to see Jamie remain a part of the club.

Red7.

Spot on Red7 mate, I reckon he'll take on a coaching role in some capacity which we'll benefit from immensely. Another transitional period at the Club.

Cannot thank Carra enough over years. If all players nowadays had half his commitment, drive and love of the game, not least for LFC we'd be in clover. Bust a gut for us, genuine love and will to win for us. Talker and leader be hard to replace, throwback who never bottled. Hope LFC start search for his type of Character now. And whilst we're at it start looking ahead for an all action Stevie replacement too. Homegrown be better if we've got them. You cannot beat real feeling for area or club. I hope LFC utilise Carras know how, knowledge and experience in some sort of coaching or scouting role

I dream that he 'does a Scholes' and changes his mind. He's still our best CB and has a couple of seasons left. I really hope that I'm wrong in that he done this because he was not offered a new contract and is fed up.
I remember when he first broke into the 1st team and he was considered our 'first ball winner' in a while. He is absolute class and epitomises everything good about our club.
I really hope he goes into management and takes over from BR next season and wins the Premier league at the first attempt (I can keep dreaming).

I think with the legend Jamie retiring I think throw men at Liverpool should bring him straight into the setup with brendan he has so much to offer what does everyone else think

Even dress him in tweed and give him a classroom. The players need his life-skills as much as anything.

Eds fellow reds, just like to say a massive thank you to the legend that is Jamie carrra, still a top player. if he is a little unsure what he wants to do at the start of next season, I think you should get your arse on the coaching team for a couple of years and then take the top job just like Bob, Joe, Kenny and Roy and I think you can bring back the great times. Take a bow son. luv you JC. always a legend in my top ten players of all time for our club. You'll never walk alone. Cheers Psv

Just heard an interesting question on talkrubbish, but I've changed the question slightly. With Carragher retiring where would you rate him in our all time list of centre backs?

Talkrubbish are asking the question but in the sense of players in any position, but it's better to go with centre backs. Would he be in your t three? Five? Or ten?

For me I'd have to say not quite top three but certainly top five. Where would you place him?

Jonesred

Without a doubt he's in the TOP 3 CB's Ever to have played for Liverpool he's given us 26 years of service he's brought us numerous championships and been a tremedous leader and motivator.

- SLIM

Top 3 LFC CB's

1. Tommy Smith

2. Larry Lloyd

3. Carra

Sorry Crazy horse you were great but could not get you into the top 3

Liberias31

Hansen has said that he would've loved to play alongside Carra and that Carra was 10 times the defender he was.

Gillespie said flat that anyone not ranking Jamie Carragher alongside Hansen and Lawro didn't know what they are talking about.

SpudRed

Very difficult one. Carra is the modern day Crazy Horse. I cannot give a bigger compliment than that.

Carra's play was, and still is timeless. He'd fit into any team we've ever put together. On that basis, he's a starter over just about anybody. He's a complimentary player also. meaning, pair him up with any of our best ever 10 centre halves, and they'd be the best pairing we'd have ever put on the pitch.

Perhaps not our best ever centre half, but certainly our most effective and easy to select.

Carra legend! I hope they play him as often as he can manage for the rest of the season, players like this man don't grow on trees and he should be given the chance to go out all guns blazing.

07 Feb 2013 17:43:08
With carraghar leavng nd uncertainty over futures of Coates nd skrtel I would say we need 2 players in as kelly would be back nd it should let wisdom move to his natural cb position. maybe sama at cb next season or mclaughlin at rb under study to johnson. nd kelly could move to central as well nd we would only required to buy one cb nd let back. or someome who can cover both cb nd lb. in the end a salute to legend carra as he has been loyal passionate servant nd still you can see passion in his eyes. he has made correct decision as he knows no longer he is same player nd his presence as player could be bad for development to sama, kelly nd wisdom. Am sure he will be involved in coaching very soon.

Alright everyone!

West brom:3
Swansea:3
Wigan: 3
Tottenham:
Southampton:3
Villa:3
West ham:3
Reading:3
Chelsea:
Newcastle:3
Everton:3
Fulham:3
QPR:3

That's 33points from a possible 39 that's what we're gunna have to do to get top 4 obviously its unlikely, but I think if we beat west brom and then Swansea after our last to good performances, it's very possible! We're at a make or brake stage now we need to get a run of games together. The other top 4 candidates have harder games than us an are in Europe so there gunna drop points! It's up to us to push them on now come on boys it's not out of the question we can do it!

YNWA

BC

I like your optimism but its not going to happen. Not many teams in any of europes top leagues could put a run like that together. The ones that can are usually top of their leagues as well, not as low down as us. We are far too inconsistant.
We would need to beat spurs as well.

MIKEY

I do believe that with a good run till the end of the season we can net 30 points - that's nine wins, three draws and one loss; anything more would be exceptional, but one can dream!
We are dependant on teams before us slipping though, mainly spurs and arsenal, the latter being the more serious opposition in my opinion. An important weekend coming up, that will show how things will progress from now on - Arsenal and Spurs play games against defiatable, but rough opponents, who both stole draws from us, while we play a weaker team - that is quite similar to Villa.
If things go our way, we may yet have a chance to join the glorious race.

Go on Reds!
Drigan

I don't think we will beat, West Brom, because their manager has something to prove. We won't beat Spuds, I think we could do chelsea, we won't beat Newcastle. I don't think we will beat Everton and dare I say it, I think they have a good chance of top 4 and good luck to them, they usually finish the season strong too.

We're in Europe too

cozinoz

It obviously won't happen. But on that list, if we beat Spuds, Chavski, the Geordies and the Bitters. that'd do me for a start!

. maybe throw in a cheeky 3 points against the Eastenders, just to stick it to Fat Fire-trUCK Sam.

With Jamie Carragher retiring at the end of the season do you think both Sebastian Coates and Martin Skrtel will both leave in the summer will only one first choice replacement coming in with Wisdom and Kelly being options for centre back

Well, I don't mean to know anything direct from the club on the underground or whatever but if we sell two defenders and Carra retires, i'm going to guess that we'd sign some fresh faces for the defence as an option.

Carra retiring. I think Coates will go. I think Wilson will also go. Get Toby Alderweireld in from Ajax. I doubt Skrtel will go but if he did i'd go for Sakho from PSV.
So that would leave us with either:
Skrtel, Agger, Alderweireld, Kelly and Wisdom. With Sama coming through.
Or:
Alderweireld, Agger, Sakho, Kelly and Wisdom. With Sama.

Sorry Sakho from PSG not PSV lol.

Selling Skrtel would be a mistake. Centre half combinations take a long time to build. If Skrtel left, and Agger got hurt, we're back to square one.

Favourite goal of the season so far?
Ill say Suarez second of his hat trick against Norwich. Pinching the ball of defender, nut meg, then outside of the boot.

i wouldn't mind going for matts hummels and kjaer (aggers mate) and a big named forward i. e cavani or falcao could cost about 80 million but if we get champions league football we are going to need these type of players its no good getting into the champions league then going out at the first hurdle we need a team to stay in it and win it

Hi guys looking at the fixtures from now to the end of the season this is my prediction for 4th
4: arsenal
5: Liverpool
6:tottenham
7 everton

The fixtures show that arsenal and Liverpool have way Easyer games remaining tottenham have the toughest running.

We should hope that arsenal go further in the CL as they will drop points in the league.

This is also based on all 4 teams loosing to the top teams they have left to play including us!

We can do it!

YNWA

For that to happen it would require us to get 30pts out of the 39 available, it's a pitty we don't have 5 or 6 more points because we'd be right in the running!

LoL Tottenham losing more than 9 points over the next 13 games, hmm.

I don't think they will but let's hop so.

Mate, we are talking about Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton losing 9 points over 13 games not of Barcelona/Rm/ManU. I reckon even Chelsea can go down the spiral watching their current performances. So yeah! its improbable but not Impossible.

Stranger things have happened in Football. Let these teams lose a couple on trot and we win our next 2. There will be a different picture painted!

I think a fitting tribute to Jamie Carragher after his years of service and dedication would be a statue or maybe even a stand/ section named after him. Open to offers as to what they would call it. Legend!

James

Statues are to honour the dead, aren't they!?

Carragher stand

Zidane got one.

Like the one at old trafford for SAF?

James

07 Feb 2013 19:18:13
James mate no doubt carragher is legend but no way deserves statue it will be disrespectful to past players who played for 10-15 years and have won 6-8 league titles 3 champions league with multiple fa cups and carling cups, they are 25-35 players who have achieved those honours as I mentioned above, that's why we only give statues to manager. Big shock is Paisley hasn't got one

Ian Callaghan didn't get a statue or part of the ground named after him.

I met the Liverpool squad at a hotel near my house back in the day. It was at a hotel they were stopping at near my house called Redworth hall Before setting off to play Middlesbrough. I had to ask Neil ruddock who Jamie carragher was as I had never seem him before. Who would have guessed that years down the line he would be classed as a Liverpool legend. But that's what he is. I hope he manages to stay fit for the rest of the season then becomes a member of the coaching staff. Good luck Jamie.

Always loved JC, great role model for our great club and all round genuine guy! Hope he retains some sort of role at LFC.
Now with JC leaving and Skrtel (possibly in the summer) along with Coates we are going to see big changes to our central defence. I would expect BR to be in the market for a couple of really good CB's who are comfortable on the ball, quick and good in the air. I just hope they can quickly form a good partnership with Dagger. Anyone with any ideas - Fernando Amorebieta is certainly available and only has a few months left on his contract. Mobido Diakite of Lazio seems keen to sign for Liverpool unless it's just paper talk. YNWA

Diakite isn't good enough.

07 Feb 2013 16:45:54
Hi eds, I think that in the summer we need a few players in, do you agree with all of these positions that Liverpool need to strengthen and if so who are the potential targets or past linked:

CB
LB (cover for ENRIQUE)
CM (someone who can spray passes)
LM OR RM
ST (cover for Sturridge)

Cheers

We need a keeper, begovic, forster, mignolet for me.

Left back danny rose is quality.
Cm cabaye.
Wanyama.

Winger Ben arfa sessegnon on cheap.

Striker, I am scottish and my countryman fletcher always impresses me far better than people think. reminds me of bergkamp I sh, but good in the air too, class first touch and goals to chances ratio world class.

You keep doing it! Are you 'Pool supporters all daft in the head? Cabaye? Ben Arfa? Both top class, both on very long contracts = very expensive. If Newcastle drop a hint that either of these two was for sale, you'd be in an auction with really big clubs, and you haven't got that sort of money. Learn to do what Newcastle did to sign these players in the first place - scout diligently, look for players nearing the end of their contracts and buy cheap. Simples.

Stephen Fletcher likened to Bergkamp, that's talking patriotism to a whole new level mate. He's a great finisher, but offers nothing more. Bergkamp was technically one of the best players of his generation. Superb skill, vision, touch and finishing from everywhere.

Papa G

Papa G I did say Bergkamp Ish with ish being an important word. Of course he is a poor mans version.

Fletcher's conversion rate is top drawer, sunderland play him on he's own and don't create enough chances for him.

I hope lfc get him, rose, sessegnon off safc. And cabaye and hba off nufc.

You don't know what you've got until you lose it. I remember when people called him useless and sh1t they also said he should retire. What can you say about carra an absolute legend with the perfect winning mentality, who at 36 could still have an impact. Its a big loss to the club and the game. But after 700 appearances his retirement is deserved.

Lil Red

I don't think the game will lose him. Hopefully a high up coaching role at us, possibly even manager one day.
Or he may end up a pundit, he's done quite a bit of that already. Personally I think he's too hungry to be out of the action and sat in a studio.

Am's ok. But I had enough of it over Christmas. Time to lay off the pork products. Why would you ask this?

Jamie Carragher. A true Liverpool legend. A person who spent 26 years for our club. A fighter who fought cramps and fatigue and was everywhere in the epic 2005 CL final in Istanbul. A true legend in our eyes.
These days we don't get such loyal players.

You are a legend, Jamie
You'll Never Walk Alone

I was thinking of getting my name but to be honest "O'Reilly" just doesn't look right on a Liverpool jersey! Cheers for your idea anyway!

Also Ed to be honest I picked these 3 players because I think there future with LFC is safe for now anyway! Coutinho only joined, Gerrard will never leave and Henderson I feel is safe for the next season or two at least in my opinion. Don't jinx it Ed haha!
Cheers,
TedRed. {Ed001's Note - don't worry, it is only when I have gone and got their name they have left. I have an old Carragher one he gave me, and he is still going strong for us. }
********
Ed I posted this the other day and you told me that every player you get on a jersey leaves. Looks like you shouldn't have mentioned it! Absolute legend, will never be forgotten.
TedRed.

Ed you better never buy a suarez jersey, or it will be all your fault if he left :)
Andrew

So then never go and get a Suarez, Agger or Gerrard shirt

cheers

Marc {Ed001's Note - I will stick to JFT 96!}

Just want to echo the sentiments to Mr Carragher. Superb defender, leader, model professional and an ambassador to the English game. Whilst centre backs who play like midfielders are in fashion at the moment, one cannot deny that an out and out defender is so important in the team. In fact, Carra was so good we've just about forgiven him for being an Evertonian!

Now we have to ask, who will be the one to step up and take his role in the team.

A sad but inevitable day for us. Big props to Carra for his outstanding service given to LFC! Hope to see him stay at the club in some capacity. I will enjoy watching his remaining games, in the last I'm sure it will be emotional. LFC Legend.

Having read many nice posts in memory of Munich yesterday (from Pool fans) I'd like to express my admiration for Carra' as he draws his career to an end. How can you not admire a man who gives his all to a club, is loyal and most importantly knows when to quit. He's been a great servant to LFC and was a top CB in his prime (even if his voice is a little grating :)

Enjoy your deserved retirement JC!

Gav

07 Feb 2013 15:49:39
The best compliment I could give Carra is that he's earned the right to decide when and where to call it a day at LFC.
Not too many have that choice, but he certainly has, and he joins some exalted company.
All the best Carragher.

I would love to see a new style of boot room created. All future managers can learn from the current setup and step up to the mark when promotion is needed. It worked for us before and we would have continuity in the style of play, so it makes it easier for the new manager to adapt.
Let JC take a year off then get him into the setup.

07 Feb 2013 15:19:37
YNWA Jamie, if only we had more like him. I have watched him from an early age and have never doubted his effort, his passion, his loyalty and his importance to our great club.

Good to some of those who have been disrepecting a living, breathing, Playing legend recently have shown due respect.

Hope he returns one day as coach.

Thanks carra.

07 Feb 2013 15:14:55
Jamie Carragher, what can you say about this great Red, if ever a man helped a team win a football match then you only have to look at the Instanbul final to see how much Jamie (and Stevie G ) gave his absolute all and more to help the reds win our 5th European Cup. He is a true legend and I am already imagenig the atmoshere on our last home game of the season when the final whistle goes and we can all show Jamie how much we repect him

07 Feb 2013 15:12:24
I love the way the Liverpool fans are slating Ben Arfa. at the end of the day he is unlikey to join Liverpool anyway and is more likey to go to Arsenal or PSG. both of whom are likely to be in the CL next season, something you will be missing again lol.

Also, Suarez will be offski too. oh wait what is that Liverpool fans bleating he loves us, he won't go blah blah blah. He will go to a CL team probably join Bayen or Barca etc etc - if either of them big for him he will go. 30 mil maybe more! But gone he shall be.

You may get lucky and sign Franky L to play for you, but wait, he can't play with Stevie G. oh well

Someone has a lot of free time on his hands.

Completely agree - all true.

07 Feb 2013 16:13:15
Mate your talking about ben arfa like he is messi or Ronaldo haha sry mate but we don't need him or want him at the moment we are in need of defenders at the sametime Arsenal have walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain so I doubt they will want him and don't forget wenger buys cheap so you need to sholve him in france rather then waste your time here you might make few quids for yourself after bigging him everytime good luck fat Ashley might give you few quids for your efforts

Have I missed something? I've always thought that managers (or DoFs) asigned players, didn't realise that Liverpool took a vote among their fans. 'Today's question: Brendan wants to splash zillions on Benny - agree or disagree?'

We cannot afford to let Skrtel in the summer now that Jamie is retiring! With Coates almost definitely leaving, we are going to need 2 more centre-backs as it is, let alone 3!

Really sad about Carra. He is a hero, remember what he did for us in Istanbul and countless other games.

07 Feb 2013 14:03:38
LFC have confirmed the imminent departure of Carrager by end of this season.
Also, another source confirmed last night that LFC were willing to offload Borini to Fiorentina during the last January window.
Added to the departure list are the likes Skrtel, Carrol, Coates, Reina and possibly Downing.
Suarez might also leave if his recent comment is anything to go by.

So, the implication is that we would be in for a very busy summer.

Likely replacements for these exit bound players would be:

Suarez - Sanchez
Borini - Bony
Carrol - Ben Arfa
Downing - Coutinho?
Skrtel - Diakite
Carrager - Amoriebeta
Coates - Fazio/Ogbonna/Mirin
Reina - Begovic/Mignolet
or any decent goalie.

if we get these done, I think it will be a very good summer.

Abroad Red. {Ed002's Note - Will taht be another season of transition then?}

07 Feb 2013 14:29:02
ed. if borini leaves us.
then atleast 50% of fans including some of the eds. will almost be silent.
and this statement will be always remeberd.
". give the lad sometime. he needs fitness. time, energy. he hasn't even kicked the ball. he will be a future legend. he is just 21. "

Rather it could be :
Suarez - STAYS
Borini - STAYS
Carroll - Ben Arfa
Downing- Ince
Skrtel - Kelly/Wisdom
Carragher - Sakho/Ogbonna/Howedes/Dede
Coates - Kelly/Wisdom
Reina - Trapp
and get the young Leeds RB as back-up to Johnson.
thats a great window without even spending all the Money from Sales.

So you want Borini out before giving him a chance, tell me then, how many games would you have given Snjeider if he hadn't performed to his potential? What about Gerrard? A lot of posters have been moaning about him most of the season and look at the goals he has scored recently. What about Sterling, should we get rid of him too as his performance have slipped a little.
If you want instant success then I suggest you choose your team on the last day of the season, you'll be a lot happier then.
I rate Borini and think he will be a valued member of the squad, he may not be a first eleven player every week but he is good as a sub.
McB

Dede I rate very highly. If we could get him in the summer and continue the Brazilian link from the back 4 to attack could be magical. Willing to bet Dede and Lucas would be amazing in defense.

With Carragher retiring, Coates & Skrtel seemingly out of favour, there could be a major re-shuffle of the CB's in the summer. I hope we sign a quality replacement and Kelly is given his chance at CB as cover.

Out of the two young CB's we have covering at the RB position Wisdom/Kelly I would prefer Kelly to be honest.

What I'm looking for is a replacement for Carra, so someone vocal and I see Kelly as being more of that mould.

Wisdom is more like the Skrtel, eating concrete for breakfast and smashing dainty forwards around.

Both naturally CB's apparently so worth blooding them in that position to see how they fit in?

I fully agree, excellent servant to the club and an incredibly knowledgable (almost obsessively so) footballer. We'd certainly be fools to miss out on his experience and knowledge of the game.

In the summer and during this season there have been some serious hints from BR and others that he would slip into that ass. manager's role. After Steve Clarke's departure and our recent defensive issues I see it as the dream situation, keeping him at the club he loves so well and has done so much for over his career.

07 Feb 2013 13:12:09
Someone said to me the other day:
"rafa should have sold Alonso that year and got Barry in"
I thought what a load of garbage.
But his reasoning was that "a year later we sold alonso anyway and replaced him with aquilani, possibly the worst signing we have ever made especially when you factor in how much he cost. At least Barry is/was better/more reliable than Aquilani"
Still garbage I think, Alonsos last season was his finest in a red shirt and great to watch.
Does anyone else agree with him? Apart from rafa maybe?

Just thought I would break up the wilshire man love and neymar is awful posts.

MIKEY

Akilani worst signing, well I don't know wot you been watching, akilani much much much better than Charlie Adam, and Joe Allen, hu Kenny, and Rodger are trying 2 replace him, and this its wot its costing us 1 after another season, imagine aqua instead of Adam, and instead of Allen, how our season wudve turn up, Adam cost us the season last year, and Allen this year, so how can you take it on aquaman, we are playing good now becouse hendo its doing a job that shudve been done by aqua, and that job adam, Allen can't, and never will be able to do, I'm sure the club let him go becouse his wages, not in footballing matters.

I've never rated Barry, his career has benefitted from being a part of the City 1. 0 buying spree, players like him, Adam Johnson & Wayne Bridge have all beneiftted from City boosting their value but not actually being worth it.

Alonso blew hot and cold but the year he played a blinder for us we should have been grovelling at his feet to keep him in my book. Worst bit of transfer business we've ever been a part of (and there've been plenty of contenders for that dubious honour since).

misterdrumz

07 Feb 2013 14:48:54
alonso is pure class.
but let's be honest. his first two season was a shocker. and that was the reason rafa wanted to sell him to juventus
but from the third season he started to show what a player he was.
but by the time. he already knew that Liverpool wanted to sell him.
and being very precise. he wanted real madrid.
the galatics era. to join the hands of ronaldo, kaka, and others. simple.
so his intention was already set to join real not to get out of Liverpool.
but he still loves Liverpool.
If rafa was in charge he would have sold. caroll and downing and probably henderson in the start of this season.
we didn't had the money to buy 20 mill + players.
so when bought someone. they have to show. from the day 1.
now the situation changed.
players have atleast 2 seasons time here with Liverpool.

07 Feb 2013 13:10:09

I'm a Manchester United fan and I would just like to congratulate Jamie Carragher on his retirement and his career in general. He is a credit to your Club and served England equally well. I fully expect him to stay at Liverpool in some capacity and I wish him well in the future.

Many thanks Bazza. He is our Scholes and Giggs in that repsect and all those players deserve credit for sticking with their clubs in this day and age.

Respect also for all the working class lads who lost their lives that tragic day in Munich. The shocking disregard at the England game last night for the minutes silence shamed the game :- (

Mr. Jamie Carragher, I would like to express how much of an honor it has been to see you play in a red shirt for so many years. Your service, your dedication, your leadership to the team will forever enshrined in Liverpool's history. It is unfortunate that you may not hold up the premier league trophy as a player, but I am adamant that you will as a future coach and ambassador for this great football club.

Jamie, I wish you the very best of luck in life. You are the soul of Liverpool, a true stalwart, and truly know the meaning of You'll Never Walk Alone.

Good Afternoon Eds, I know its not your usual fancy to answer these type of Questions but would love your opinion, say IF certain players were to be sold who would in your opinion be best Replacements and if you could name 3, ok so -Suarez- Reina, Skrtel

-------- Cheers Guys, concon:)

For me, it would be Reus, Ogbonna, and Leno. Probably have enough left over to pick up Ed001's favorite Medel as well.

07 Feb 2013 12:40:11
I personally hope that Pepe Reina stays at Anfield.
Seems like a great lad and character in the dressing room.
If he has fallen out of love with the club, then he will know himself the time to move on.
But I hope that's not the case.
Remember the day when big Sami retired. It was Pepe who lifted him up and put him on his shoulders.

07 Feb 2013 11:40:04
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who appeared to raise questions over his future at Anfield in this morning's Daily Mirror, tells Spanish radio station Marca: "I'm very happy here and my family love the life here too. I want to enjoy being at this club where I, like all the kids, dreamed of playing and now I'm fulfilling that dream. "I'm very pleased and very happy because Liverpool is growing. It's not the team that it once was as they have had a dip but now we have a new coach, who has a philosophy of the game with which the players are very happy. "

After saying all of this he will STILL be away in the summer.

07 Feb 2013 11:21:32
I like this new ed002

07 Feb 2013 12:32:15
Same old witty, sacarstic Ed002.

07 Feb 2013 11:11:09
So after Suarez signed a new deal in August. He already wants a contract extension.
Dagger refused to be sold and had ynwa tattooed on his knuckles.
Suso, sterling, coutihno, shelvey all put on long term contracts.
Henderson is in the form of his life and downing is right in toe.
Is there something in the water in Liverpool?! There's plenty of positives all over the club of the pitch, and positives on it like out playing the champions at the weekend. Just try not to moan if we don't win every single game. I haven't felt this positive about the club since coming 2nd, and even then things didn't feel right. So here's to a positive future!
Benny baller.

Then you have Downing, Allen, Carroll, Borini, Robinson and Coates who are all hopeless. We have not improved in the league from last season, we are out of both cup competitions which we were still in last season and Suarez wants to leave in the summer - oh yes we have improved since last year!

07 Feb 2013 09:37:20
Breandan Rodgers to spend big this summer! You heard it here first! He is looking to sign the following:

Luis Fabiano - £7.5 million
Tom Ince - £10 million
Mariano Andujar - £2.5 million (replacing Pepe Reina - he is off to Barcalona. )
Diego - £10 million (Rodgers see's him as cover/replacement for the mighty Stevie G)
Mukaka Mulenga - Rodgers likes his kids, this one is only 19! He play's for Power Dynamos and he will be signing on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

So your probably wondering where this money is coming from? Well. I can tell you that Rodgers is going to use the funds raised from the departures of Reina and Downing. The owner has also promised to give £10 million.

Thoughts?

So your probably wondering where this money is coming from? No were all wondering if you think were all gona belive the total utter sh**e that's just been posted another un-named poster were have you got that from ye joke

Django

If they were genuinely our targets then the club would be playing with perhaps 1 seasoned cb next season, not going to happen.

SideShowBob

Ha, any thoughts, yes, the five players coming in, that you just mentioned, well, not one will be seen in a Liverpool shirt, and Downing will stay,

Ed is right about the drinking thing, one of the reasons why Nolan was sold was his drinking and having to be picked up by the club from bars / pubs. There is even talk that they picked him up from a pub on match day! Carroll is good, but also has issues. don't want him back tbh {Ed001's Note - and Carroll spent most of his time with Nolan, drinking.}

Carroll and Nolan were seen singing the "On The Ale" song outside Weatherspoons, it's sung to the tune of "Here We Go"
On The Ale, On The Ale, On The Ale, On The Ale, On The Ale, On The Ale, Oh!On The Ale, Oh!On The Ale.

Really confused by luis comments he hasn't directly said he might leave if we don't make top 4? Or I haven't seen any comments saying that. If he don't stay one more season I would be gutted. He knows we're moving forward he won't get the support he gets here from anywhere else and it looks like we can defo make top 4 next season and still have a chance this season. But to keep him we need to atleast push for top 4 this year which I think we can do just means beating Everton and Tottenham!

If most fans want Reina out because of poor form, why are there bigger teams after him. Do they see what we don't see? IMO he is a brilliant keeper and it would be a huge mistake to let him go.
SA RED

Urm what "bigger teams" want him exactly? Wake up and smell the coffee. His stats have deteriorated ever year for the last 4 seasons. Move on, a lot better younger upcoming keepers out there.

Sometimes you just have to let go : ( (

Hi eds. Heard that we took Zidane's son Enzo on trial from the start of February. Any news on his progress so far? Or is it all made up? {Ed002's Note - He is certainly not at Liverpool right now and I know of no agreement for him to have a trial.}

imagine, just imagine how formidable we would be if we signed Gomez from Bayern. Yes, you're thinking why, he's getting on and is probably going to start to fade out of Bayern's team in the next couple of years but there's one thing he is good at and always has and always be good at, that's his ability to score goals. When you think about it, Liverpool have a pretty pacey forward thanks to a few transfers and promotions from the youth, so what Gomez lacks, is evident elsewhere. On the note of our forwards, they're also very young and although this is a great longterm prospect for the club, it means we won't be as consistent as we all hope to be for a couple of seasons, unless experienced players are injected into the squad. There's no doubt that's exactly why many wanted sneijder at Liverpool, with even the big man Stevie G himself identifying how he would love someone of his calibre at the club. What Liverpool need, is quality competition to push the younger players and even the elder to train harder and fight more for our guernsey! It's worked out well for United this year and that is just from buying RVP who yes I have to admit thought was not worth the amount at his age and injury proneness, but nevertheless! If it weren't for him theyd be below top 10! Therefore a player of such esque like Gomez would also inject IMO the same results. It would also see ou younger forwards benefit from learning from such a worldclass player. Anyway! Ed's, and reader's, providing you managed to read through this of course. Do you see Gomez as a good player and a player who Liverpool should perhaps set their targets for? Is it even possible? Cheers
YNWA!
JS {Ed002's Note - Gomez will almost certainly leave Bayern in the summer. He will no doubt have plenty of offers available to him. Whether or not one is from Liverpool I don't know at this time.}

We are trying to create a team based on a system of fast, fluid passing, pacey movement and sharp, skillful interchanges. How would Gomez fit into it? People need to accept that a "physical presence" isn't something that we really need because our style of football is, hopefully, not going to be hoofs up the pitch looking for knock downs. Add to the fact that Gomez is no spring chicken an that his transfer fee would be substantial then it makes absolutely no sense. I hope we don't buy him.

SMc

To second poster I hardly think Bayern play hoof-ball. Not with the likes of Robben, Ribery, Schweinsteiger and Muller. Gomez is an excellent forward who almost certainly won't join Liverpool but not because he wouldn't have been able to fit-in, but because of our policy, our wage budget and because we could get players 'better' suited to our club than Gomez!

sama491

The way Sturridge is playing would Gomez get a game? Do we need him? No. Sturridge is powerful, skilful with great movement.
Hopefully Coutinho can be the skilful ball carrying midfielder to make the balance perfect.

Just seen the video of Suso against belgiumu21, and the way he plays and tge position that he was playimg in reminded me a lot of Wilshere againt brazil.

He could be our wilsherse. Why do we stick him out on the wing?

Hounsred

It's very annoying when we play players out of position and they get judged harshly.

Wisdom, Downing, Henderson, Allen, Sterling, Shelvey and Suso have all had the treatment, even Gerrard has. I know it's a squad game and all but it is annoying. We live and learn I suppose.

BCDI.

Wouldn't mind seeing Coutinho get a shot at being a number 10 either, especially given he is number 10.

We always play him on the wing

We have better players behind Luis and Sturridge and Suso isn't up to Wiltshire's standard just yet. Give him some occasional experience on the wings and in a year or two he might be ready to take a more central role

Wilshere is a lot more physical than Suso

07 Feb 2013 11:18:05
A lot of players take on a wide role whilst learning their trade, throw a Suso in the middle with a Yaya Toure or a Diame and he's going to get thrown about left right and centre.
Gerrard played there a lot whilst he was younger, and so did Hendo. Barry and Adam both played left midfield before playing central.

Sorry to appear as a complete novice and person, but can somebody please tell me what 'match of the day fever' is?

Anoymous woolback {Ed001's Note - it is when someone watches one match in which a player has a good game and gets all excited about them.}

We should of bought sissoko. ha ha

We should of bought sissoko mate he's a class act and the premiere league is perfect for him, were going to need somebody to replace gerrard at some point

Yes, and that person is Jordan Rossiter!

Just thought i'd pop over to say thank you to all who have left kind words in rememberance of the Busby Babes. It means a lot to us and you've done yourselves proud.

There is a great rivalry that runs deep between our two clubs, probably born out of the fact that we're so similar. Both from the North west, Both play in red, Both try to play football in the right way, Both have been hugely successful, Both had great history and tradition and Both suffered horrific tragedies.

Both able to put aside the rivalry and join together to show our respect and give our condolences to those who have been cruely taken from us.

So Thank you.

Justice for the 96, and R. I. P the flowers of Manchester.

I have just broken one of my rules. Which is take one game at a time. I've looked at the remaining fictures for all teams looking for a top four.
I believe we will do it.
Ok so we must win our next two home games to set up a chance and beat everton spurs and chelsea but they are all at home. 4th /3rd is up for grabs. And Liverpool can do it

Listening to all the ridiculous speculation on 'keepers, would it not make sense for the manager to go back and enquire about one he has previously signed already (worm)? Any ideas Ed's? {Ed001's Note - only if he is the best option.}

Mihalyov (spelling) at FC Twente was getting on very well. He's an ex Red youth keeper.

I hope it's not the one at Oldham you were thinking of. :)

BCDI.

Im pretty sure if he was taking about the oldham keeper he would of said Dean Bouzanis?

any idea why countinho hasn't trained with the team yet? really looking forward to seeing him play now! {Ed001's Note - sorting his visa.}

Pascoe (assistant coach) said in an interview with tv that he (Coutinho) is nursing a slight strain on his hamstring. I think that's more of a reason, but that's only my opinion.

Hey eds I've been reading about two years now and I was always wondering where your info comes from do you have sources inside football or do all yu eds travel about the place. Love the site and thanks for all the posts :) {Ed001's Note - some eds are just here to edit and keep the sites running. Some of us do have people involved in various roles within clubs or on boards of football clubs that will share titbits. Though those at Liverpool are no longer sharing, and Cardiff incidentally, following some stuff being leaked in January refused to pass on anything more.}
