My tv has just given up

We always have a smashing game when I'm not watching

We could do with winning by 6

Is this a sign?

I hope so. We owe Southampton a good kicking this season.

06 May 2017 20:22:02
Sorry if it's been asked but wondered if after his meeting with barca, if he goes would there be someone not mentioned in sharkopod we would go for? If has been answers and another poster can update us to save the eds some time thanks!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I don't know who you are talking about, sorry.}

06 May 2017 23:03:04
Thanks anywho.

06 May 2017 23:02:57
Sorry absentminded! Coutinho was whom I was referring to. So if he leaves would we look to add another transfer to the wish list?

06 May 2017 18:36:09
Been following this site a few years now and often wondered how it started, who started it etc. How you editors all became affiliated and how you divide the time editing between you. If you have 5 mins spare be more than greatful. Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks, 3 points be lovely tomorrow!

Believable7 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - myself and Ed033 started it when he was at uni doing website design and wanted to do a website, I think it was a uni project. I came up with the idea for the original football-rumours site. That was 2001, just before my daughter was born and I never even had a comp or mobile phone then. I would spend my evenings getting info, then go to work and, when I should have been working, I would be busy writing articles for the site. Ed033 would then take the scraps of paper and type them up, one each day. It just grew from there really. I can remember many times, after a few days of not sleeping due to getting a PC and sitting up adding articles, researching stuff etc I would fall asleep stood up at work. I am not sure what that says about me that no one ever noticed I was sleeping most of my work shift!

As for dividing the time, we have a widget and the posts show up on there, whoever gets them, gets them, so to speak. I am the one up first, usually, while Ed018 or Ed007 tend to be the ones on latest. Inbetween is just whoever gets them though. If someone else is about and picks them up, I will just leave the editing for a bit, unless something is held directly aimed at me, while I work on articles or the videos I am putting together. But I personally pretty much will be editing from the moment I get up until I go to sleep. If I am at home the comp is always on so I can keep an eye on things. If I go out I edit on my phone. It has become extremely difficult to switch off from working to be honest now.}

06 May 2017 19:32:28
May I ask ed how you and ed002 came into contact?

{Ed001's Note - through the site. He was initially a visitor to the site a long long time ago. I have learnt a lot from her.}

06 May 2017 19:42:32
Cheers Ed bet you never thought it would take off like this! It hard to appreciate the time involved until you put it in writing saying your even editing when out. How did Ed 2, 25 and the rest become involved if you don't mind mate?

{Ed001's Note - I never imagined it mate. I can remember getting excited when we reached 100 pageviews in total!

The others were all visitors to the site who ended up getting involved. Ed002 for his knowledge and Ed025 to provide a counterpoint to that knowledge with his lack of it ;-)

Seriously, the sites couldn't be done without them. All of them are great in their own way, even Ed007, and provide unique input from different viewpoints. I include all those that have helped edit the sites over the years in that. I am grateful to all of them for the help they have given.}

06 May 2017 19:54:31
Including her vital statistics, ed? Would you be willing to share those with the world and watch it burn?

{Ed001's Note - unfortunately no, numbers that large are far too difficult to type correctly.}

06 May 2017 19:58:17
When did he became her?

{Ed001's Note - after she became he.}

06 May 2017 20:08:29
I liked ed091. Shame he doesn't post any more. Always found him insightful and fair.

{Ed001's Note - I bet he was your favourite....}

06 May 2017 20:32:52
I really appreciate all of the Eds but the wit and knowledge from Ed002 are fun reads. Ed001 should be an advisor to LFC as we would rule Europe again with him involved with the club.

{Ed033's Note - You could write to or email LFC and tell them you think Ed001 should be an advisor.

06 May 2017 20:58:20
Nice work. all of you. And thanks again.

06 May 2017 21:24:14
I wonder whatever brought someone with the vast football knowledge of Ed02 onto a rumours site. Ed02 if you're around?

{Ed002's Note - Free love.}

06 May 2017 22:31:32
I seem to recall being an open rumour site and not specifically for a team.

Either way, there was one real bitter that wound me up every day.

Rubbed it in that I was a wool.

Difficult to take.

Anyone remember?

06 May 2017 23:02:13
Have any of you actually worked for clubs? Do you recruit people based on contacts, how they post or word of mouth?

{Ed002's Note - There is a complete mix of backgrounds. I am, as you know, a rodeo clown and part time gentleman adventurer. The others are a mix of chimney sweeps and florists - many of which work together at trugs.co.uk}

06 May 2017 23:44:44
Really interesting read to hear how it all came together. Fair play, well done and thank you.

{Ed002's Note - And none of the Eds get paid except Ed007 who we see as a hirsute charity case. For years and years he had always boasted about the money he saved on carpet slippers through having incredibly hairy feet. And this was a wonderful soft hair that he would allow other Eds to comb in repayment for their bringing items that would improve his collection of Victorian napkin rings to him. Eventually he could no longer buy shoes due to the depth of his luscious foot hair and we new something had to be done. We had a Kickstarter campaign and have all agreed to pay our plentiful salaries in to a fund to address Ed007's foothair problem and to allow him to work with young girls to ensure it never happens to them either.}

06 May 2017 20:59:36
When are you going to promote Harry to an Ed?

{Ed001's Note - you know the day hell freezes over? Well it will be thirty years after that.}

06 May 2017 21:00:32
you all do a great job! I cannot imagine waking up and your site not being here, its become part of my daily routine, thanks to you all. Long may it continue.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what I would do without it. I used to dread going to work, now I get out of bed with a purpose.}

06 May 2017 21:58:28
Congratulations and well done with all of it. Your site has been the first i look at every day for so many years now. Thanks to all the Eds for all the hard work. I would be so uneducated about football without this site.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Mark. That means a hell of a lot mate, seriously.}

06 May 2017 22:31:27
Is it true ''harry' is the only paid Ed?

{Ed001's Note - we couldn't possibly pay him enough. Trust me.}

07 May 2017 08:09:39
Can only echo the sentiments above. This is my home page on my browser haha!

Thanks to all the Eds and especially those doing it for free love.

My partner hates you all because in her words "we can't have a conversation because you're always on that stupid football site", but if it ever starts to make things difficult I have the willpower to walk away. She is fine by herself anyway.

{Ed001's Note - tell her we all love her too....}

07 May 2017 08:12:02
Do you have plans for the site ed's?
Anything that you would like to do with it?

{Ed001's Note - lots mate. There are loads of plans to improve it. Personally now I am working on some short videos, from sports docs to interviews to well just about anything sports based. Ed033 is currently working on notifications, so you know when people have replied. Though I am not sure when that will ever be ready as he has been working on it for what feels like 10 years, though I am sure it is nothing like that long!}

07 May 2017 01:44:12
Haha Ed02 most amusing. I'm worried in case us site users have finally broken your mind. Nice to see some light hearted insane humour lol.

07 May 2017 10:13:54
If any of the EDD'S, r around, please ignore my ignorance but r these sites just for football, or is there any for the likes of horse racing, tennis, cricket etc.

{Ed001's Note - there are lots of different sites now mate. There are drop down menus for the other sites near the top of the page. There is all sorts there, from movies to cricket to US sports.}

07 May 2017 11:18:16
Maybe all of us should post about how we al got hooked on this drug, I mean, this website!
Thanks to all you Eds for the work you do. I can't imagine not waking up to this website. Eds 001 and 002 are legends, but even as a Red, I really really like Ed025!
Thank you all.

{Ed001's Note - don't worry mate, we will keep that last bit between ourselves!}

07 May 2017 11:24:52
Thanks for all your hard work eds. This is my first and only source for all things football. I look forward to using it for other sports too. Maybe it's just me but I could swear other media sites and news teams use your comments to make their stories. Some of it is literally word for word. Perhaps that's a testament to how highly you are regarded. You make the others look like a bunch of amateurs. Thanks again. šŸ‘šŸ‘.

{Ed001's Note - thank you RS.}

06 May 2017 17:01:37
Ed, am I correct in thinking . there could be up to 8 prem teams in Europe next season?

If Utd win europa, 5 ECL + 3 Europa?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - No.}

06 May 2017 20:45:00
What about the fair play?

06 May 2017 23:42:32
The Fair Play rule doesn't apply anymore. Hopefully (and still possibly) England will have 4 clubs in the ECL and 3 in the EL. In the event that manchester united win this will become 5 and 2. That prospect is not a foregone conclusion (as many think) as Ajax is also a pretty good team and with Feyenoord almost certainly becoming Eredivisie Kampioenen tomorrow Ajax do not want to be over-shadowed.

06 May 2017 17:28:31
Happy birthday graeme souness. In 7 seasons as lfc player he won
5 leagues, 4 league cup,3 european cups. Best captain and midfielder in lfc history.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

06 May 2017 17:48:18
Agreed.

06 May 2017 17:59:09
Gerrard was better at both, just unfortunate he was in many bad teams.

06 May 2017 18:11:20
Gerrard better than Souness?

As good as Gerrard was, he is not even in the same league.

This is like a United fan claiming Pogba is better than Keane.

06 May 2017 18:03:38
Absolutely.

06 May 2017 18:40:03
Sourness best ever midfielder. Xabi second best CM. Gerrard the most complete midfielder in past 20 years.

06 May 2017 19:10:32
Well yeah because Pogba has been as important to Utd as gerrard has for us.

06 May 2017 20:35:48
Souness gets my vote as well. Just. Likening it to Pogba and Keane is absolutely absurd, though.

06 May 2017 22:14:54
Look at what Souness won. He was the best midfielder in world football for nearly a decade.

Gerrard was never even the best in England and won just 1 major trophy with us. You can say he played in a worse team, but his dictating to the management where he wanted to play and who he wanted to play with was a big part of why he never got to play in a better side. He was the main culprit for a lot of poor performances as well.

Always turned up for the bug European nights, cup finals, or derby games so he is still a legend for some of the games he won us. Just don't think you can compare him to a player who helped us dominate Europe. Gerrard was very much a modern example of too much player power and celebrity life style (like Pogba, hence my loose comparison that everyone has taken too seriously. Sighs) . Souness was a true leader, undeniably world class, and a proper old school player who left everything on the pitch every game. A managers dream. Thankfully Gerrard looks to have matured and come back as a really level headed coach. Hopefully one day he can win the league with us from the dug out. He can't possibly be a worse manager than Souness!

06 May 2017 22:35:22
Love Souness.

Kills me to see him still as I feel sad how the fans fell out with him.

06 May 2017 23:04:44
there's a reason GERRARD was voted 2nd best lfc player after Kenny in our history.

Love souness but comparing him to GERRARD who carried lfc in his shoulders and WHATEVER lfc won in modern footy til this day we're talking abt has made HUGE HUGE CONTRIBUTION which is more then souness who played in Great lfc sides with some great players under one of the Greatest managers in our history.

06 May 2017 23:33:06
Although Souness as an LFC player was before my time, born 84. My first memories of him were as manager which unfortunately didn't work out as we would have wanted but what a player, certainly the type we could do with now in the middle of the park. Although in the modern game his style would not suit unfortunately. Stevie as a midfielder had everything, football ability, intelligence and a a toughness similar to that of Souness. Obviously not as successful trophy wise as Souness but in my opinion a better all round footballer. I really would like to get the Eds opinion this?

07 May 2017 03:37:34
If Souness was playing in the modern era he would have spent most of each season banned.

He certainly was a Liverpool great and one of the best of his generation but I have also no doubt that he was the dirtiest player that I remember wearing the red shirt.

I mean xxx bad.

I also didn't like that him lifting the European cup as our captain was his last appearance as a Liverpool player.

A good trait or a bad trait but Souness always put himself first before any club.

He still makes his money talking get about his time with the mighty reds but at the time he took the foreign payday breaking thousands of fans hearts.
For all the rumoured character problems of Stevie G. (I think bull) he always put LFC first and whose actions after lifting the Champions league trophy was to say I'm staying, how could I leave.
When he could have gone to any club in Europe.

Souness chalk, Gerrard the finest Lancashire cheese.

End of.

{Ed001's Note - Souness was a clever man, he would have been a totally different player if he was around now. He was good enough to adapt, being dirty was not what made him great.}

07 May 2017 09:49:29
Gerrard was the more gifted all round footballer, but Souness was undisputably the better leader.

07 May 2017 09:50:37
Gerrard wasn't the best midfielder in England? Did I just read that? He was the best in Europe for a few years and probably our second greatest ever player.

06 May 2017 17:21:12
Had a good chat with a few friends recently about the centre backs we've had over the recent years, obvious names stand out, the likes of Carra and big Sami, but what are people's opinions on Danny Agger? Obviously a career plagued by injuries but I thought as a ball playing defender he was quality, a bit like Kompany in a way, a real class defender who will be remembered for the games he missed rather than the games he played.

Never forget his goals though, the fracker against West Ham and of course the semi final against Chelsea

Look forward to your opinions and here's to 3 massively vital 3 points tomorrow.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

06 May 2017 18:21:23
I loved Agger, so smart and vocal, he was Squirtle's brain. Not to mention his loyalty to LFC, just a pity we couldn't manage his injuries better, seems to be a theme with us.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, carrying Skrtel all those years will have done some serious damage to his back.}

06 May 2017 19:25:18
So unlucky with injuries. I always thought he was going to be the closest thing we had to jockey.

06 May 2017 21:04:07
Loved him, a good footballer and very brave. A true warrior! Left too soon in my opinion, I blame Brendan. Could do with him now.

06 May 2017 21:05:51
Wasn't suggesting he could still be playing for us now mind, just saying he'd be good in our current side.

06 May 2017 22:37:10
Better than lovren and would still do a job for us now in the odd games like klavan even with his broken knees. Shame he was so fragile, was replaced by sturridge who took up the fragile mantle. Its funny there is always one, kewell being the most fragile that i can remember.

07 May 2017 00:18:09
Agger never got over his injuries after he left us. Great player but he left at the right time.

07 May 2017 03:26:50
Also, never seen him turn down a kid's request for an autograph or pic. One of my favourite players of the past 20 years.

06 May 2017 17:01:37

06 May 2017 23:44:10
Souness was a great playerfor us - just a losy manager!

06 May 2017 14:22:05
goal difference just blown away by city, winning 5 nil to crystal palace.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

06 May 2017 14:50:21
Think we will finish 4th now. City's remaining games are a stroll in the park.

06 May 2017 15:16:22
Yeah just like Boro last week.

06 May 2017 16:10:43
No easy games left, far from over! One of us are going to drop points, let's hope it's not us!

06 May 2017 17:12:02
They'll lose or draw next week to Leicester. We just need to worry about our own points tally and nothing else.

06 May 2017 17:19:45
Amazing crystal palace get blown away 5 nil, but we couldn't. Ah well football is funny like that.

06 May 2017 18:01:10
Today the genius that is allardyce decided to play a wingback at centre back van anholt right of him was kelly and left of him was schlupp a striker/ winger/ left back. It's not really a surprise.

06 May 2017 18:01:10
Today the genius that is allardyce decided to play a wingback at centre back van anholt right of him was kelly and left of him was schlupp a striker/ winger/ left back. It's not really a surprise.

06 May 2017 18:06:22
Football is NOT an exact science as if it was, LC would NEVER have been champions. Let's focus on what we need to do and forget the rest cos if we don't win our games, it won't matter to us what other teams do.

06 May 2017 12:51:13
Considering coutinho is better than pogba then anything less than world record fee and I'd say we've had our pants down again.

Believable12 Unbelievable8

06 May 2017 15:08:02
Thats not how it works.

06 May 2017 15:22:56
dont give me that rubbish dilakh2.

06 May 2017 15:41:36
Well MR 12+12=21 how much did Kante go for?

06 May 2017 16:08:30
Kante isn't an attacking player, typically holding midfielders are not the most glamorous and do not fetch the highest prices.

Having said that, Leicester had their pants down with that one.

06 May 2017 16:29:31
We will not get a world record fee for Coutinho.

I would probably take anything over Ā£60m for him tbh.

06 May 2017 16:51:47
Problem is if we think replacing couts with brant is moving forward we are in for a shock. It's called regressing.

06 May 2017 17:08:01
I don't get the negativity around Brandt.

He plays in a very poor team who have only just avoided relegation this season. 4 years younger than Coutinho, yet he matches him stride for stride in terms of creating goals (8 assists) . Admittedly he only has 4 goals to Coutinho's 11, but you could argue Coutinho gets better service in a team 4th in Europe for creating goal scoring chances.

Brandt deserves a chance. He is one of the most highly rated young players in Europe, being watched by Bayern Munich. We'd do well to sign him and he is easily at the same level Coutinho was when we signed him at a similar age.

If people on here had it there way, we wouldn't have signed Coutinho. We'd have fought it out with Man United to sign Ashley Young because he was "first team ready".

Seriously, lay off Brandt. You clearly don't have a clue who he is, or how good he is.

06 May 2017 18:13:33
Spot on, MK. Those who criticize Brandt have clearly NEVER seen him play on a consistent basis as I have. I saw him first at the U20 WC in 2015, then at the Olympics where Germany lost to Brazil in the final and in the Bundesliga and CL this season. The kid is a real talent at just 20 and already part of the Germany setup.

He is lethal with good pace, can play anywhere behind the striker, can shoot with either foot and scores free kicks tho, he operates mainly on the left wing. Bayer also play the high press system like Klopp's gegenpress system so he fit in nicely on that front.

Those spouting about him being not good enough for us need to go watch him and NOT focus on what team he's playing for or where that team lies in the table, as a means to judge him. If that was the case, what is Wiji doing her? I want him here per Ed02, he is interested BUT is not sure if he will play regularly with Couts still first choice.

06 May 2017 23:39:29
the posters criticising brandt now are the same ones that said liverpool miss another one when it was said he agreed to sign for bayern which turned out to be BS.

07 May 2017 00:57:44
If Coutinho Leaves we should go for Hakim Ziyech at Ajax. Fantastic talent.

07 May 2017 02:44:23
I would like to see Brandt join, just not at the expense of Coutinho leaving. let the team remain stable for another year and bring in new players to strengthen the squad by selling those you don't use regularly (Sturridge, Markovic, Sakho, Moreno etc. )

07 May 2017 09:52:45
Is brandt an xfactor?

He might be as good as coutinho was 4 yeaes ago but 4 years is a hell of a long time.

Its regressing.

Coutinjo goes then firmino becomes half the player. we lose our only xfactor. we cement the selling team status (suarez, sterling and coutinho)

He cannot leave simple. No matter who we could replace him with.

Anyone remember these conversations when suarez was leaving?

06 May 2017 12:22:26
So since we have not regularly been playing CL football we have struggled to attract and sign top players (I'm thinking Sanchez, Willian etc), and apparently now M'bappe is not interested in United (not sure how true that is, not that it matters), and they could potentially struggle without CL football. What is it with modern footballers? Is it that they lack the confidence to recognise the contribution they could make to push a team to better things? Or is it just about ego, money and status? Or do they literally just want the fake sense of glory by jumping on the back of an already successful team and taking some of theirs? Are there any players out there who have the ambition to bring glory and success to struggling team? What Ed said earlier about Alan Shearer made me think about this.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

06 May 2017 14:16:17
Is this not why Klopp has said we will only be signing players who was the to be at Liverpool to play and not for the money?
On another matter, where the heck are Palace? Not at the Etihad for sure.

06 May 2017 16:57:26
Super i am allways thinking exactly the same. its a sad state about the modern footballer, sad really.

06 May 2017 17:23:57
Can't blame them to be honest their playing careers don't exactly have much longevity. They're like everyone else want quick gratification, and there's nothing more satisfying then them playing in the Champions league. Speaking of which will brexit affect English teams participating in Europe?

06 May 2017 17:56:40
I imagine it would be a similar process to how players are currently signed from outside of the EU. I bet Ed02 has an idea? I also bet somewhere in the depths of the archive this has been answered previously!

{Ed002's Note - Brexit has nothing to do with Europa competitions.}

06 May 2017 18:19:31
It's he modern day footballer, really. Many of them are not willing to do the hard graft of making it with a team of promise. They prefer to go to a team that is always in the CL, fighting for titles and want to command first team football (in their contracts, for some) without them even wanting to fight for their place. This is why Klopp said if you are not interested in helping us push the wagon, then you can jog on cos we need players with the heart and zeal to do the hard graft to help us succeed. Now one can disagree or agree with this but it is what it is hence, we need to be in the CL consistently first while at the same time building momentum for a PL challenge cos CL consistently, can definitely be a good bargaining chip in getting you the players you want going forward.

07 May 2017 09:55:46
Would you.

If i granted you the skill pf coutinho now would you stay at west ham for the rest of your career.

You only have 1 life.

06 May 2017 11:59:48
Hey ed01, I would like to talk with you about Virgil van Dijk, since he is one of the hottest names in the mainstream media these days, linked with anybody and their dog (said dog lacking the street smarts of Sparky) .
I seem to recall you used to offer an extensive critique on his overall play during the autumn? I could not find the posts because the banter is overflowing with van Dijk sprache, but I think you spoke about his lack of concentration and tendency to wonder off?
I wonder if you could offer an updated summary on your views of his strengths and weaknesses, and how he would fit in the high line that Klopp favors if we signed him for some reason.
As a secondary question, what qualities should a CB possess to fit in said system, at least in your opinion?

Cheers!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the qualities a CB needs in Klopp's system are pace, positional sense, awareness and ability on the ball.

Van Dijk has the pace and ability on the ball certainly. He is strong and excellent in the air as well. Unfortunately he possesses a lack of real awareness, his positional sense is suspect as he usually throws himself into a needless tackle somewhere outside the box and then stands watching the rest of the play, rather than racing back into position like he should do. Worse is his tendency to go off on a wander, I like a centre back to take the ball out from the back, it is one of Matip's strengths for instance, but they have to know when to give the ball and get back into position. VVD just overruns it and then strolls back every time. It is telling that you can see him nowhere near his own box almost every time a goal is conceded, as he is usually busy watching the game, rather than taking part.

If his concentration improved and he made effort to get back (which a centre back has absolutely no excuse for strolling back considering they cover less distance than almost every other player on the pitch, so can't make the excuse of energy conservation) then he could be an excellent defender. Physically he is just about as good as it gets, damn near perfect. Technically he is excellent on the ball and in the air and a very good tackler. It is mentally that the problems are. He chooses the wrong places and times to make his tackles.

He is one of the most frustrating players to watch, in my opinion, as he could be the best defender in the world, but you can see he is letting himself down. As things stand, he is someone who would add to the problems we have, which have all come from individual errors. He is not even a vocal leader of a player, which is the thing we lack most right now.}

06 May 2017 12:35:04
This is my fear too, ed. A bit like the Lovren transfer, taking in a defender who undoubtfully has strengths, but his weaknesses are of the worst possible kind for our error-prone defense. That said, I do have hopes that with the proper motivation van Dijk can grow as a player, he is entering the right age bracket I believe. Now or never, so to say.
I do wonder how the long injury lay-off would affect him though.

Thanks for the detailed response, and have a nice day.

{Ed001's Note - if he was a cheap gamble, like Matip, then I would have no problem with it. However he is going to command a fee he will never be worth.}

06 May 2017 13:23:42
Ed don't think you think he would be good in a 3.

{Ed001's Note - god no. It would just allow him to be even less focused and lazy.}

06 May 2017 13:33:06
ED001, u actually think Saints will get the 50 million GBP they want for VVD? Its a stupid sum for an inconsistent defender and I just cannot think of nay club that would be foolish enough to part with so much money for an average defender. But then City did pay 50 million for John Stones so who knows!

{Ed001's Note - there are a lot of clubs, with a lot of money, desperately searching for a centre half, so they will get a ridiculous sum.}

06 May 2017 15:14:48
Its only one opinion that VVD is an average defender. Maybe other clubs rate him higher than Ed001? Personally i think he has all the attributes to be very good and any flaws in his game will be ironed out at a top club.

06 May 2017 16:41:54
For the right money, Ben Gibson of Boro would be a much better fit in our side, plus he is a leader, is vocal, still young, English, so ticks a lot of boxes, also the left back from Hull Andrew Robertson, he has a very good left foot, gets forward, and strong, price would be good too, that would be a really good improvement to our dodgy defence .

{Ed001's Note - I agree on Gibson but not Robertson, he has never impressed me at all.}

06 May 2017 19:56:40
Wouldn't David Luis have had the same criticisms earlier in his career as vvd, still don't think he's great but massive improvement on his first stint at chelsea?

{Ed001's Note - to a degree, but Luiz also had a magnificent range of passing, which VVD has not got at all. Luiz can play central midfield and has done numerous times. He was not as bad as the media like to make out. His lapses were always highlighted because of the way he looks he makes an easy target. The fact he is a nice guy means you can slag him off and know he is not going to get in your face if you bump into him, which is something you can't say about all players.}

My All Time Premier League Eleven

06 May 2017 09:37:12
{Ed's Note - We have posted a new article entitled, My All Time Premier League Eleven

Believable4 Unbelievable0

06 May 2017 10:45:39
Love these kind of posts and I know they're very subjective but I can't believe Gerrard doesn't even get a mention, maybe partner Viera with Gerrard but put him ahead of the Scouser, no way.

I'd take Henry instead of Shearer and pick one of Vidic or Hyypia over Terry. I'm not convinced by the Kelly pick but I'll give it a pass. What I have to argue is WTH are Duff and Speed doing being name checked in this article?

06 May 2017 10:47:42
No captain Fantastic? Not even an honorable mention of Suarez? And the real scandal: no Djimi TraorƩ at LB!

{Ed001's Note - I could only pick XI and Suarez's stupidity far outweighed the short period of brilliance. I would rather lose than employ scum like him personally.}

06 May 2017 10:48:04
Based purely on how good they were at their best and ignoring longevity mine is:

Pepe Reina
Rob Jones, Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia, Fabio Aurelio
Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, Mohammed Sissoko, John Barnes
Robbie Fowler, Luis Suarez

Probably a bit bosses, but oh well ;)

06 May 2017 11:52:54
From things he's said in the past, I don't think Gerrard would even get in Ed1's all time Liverpool XI.

{Ed001's Note - no Souness would be ahead of him every time. Souness is the best central midfielder I have ever seen play the game.}

06 May 2017 12:02:25
I know you could only pick eleven players, but am slightly surprised you didn't mention Cech, Van Der Sar, Vidic, Carvalho, Gerrard, Lampard, Cantona and Drogba in your reasoning for choosing certain players.

{Ed001's Note - because I was trying to keep it short mate! If I had mentioned all the players I went through to come up with that XI, it would have been another 6 months in the writing.}

06 May 2017 12:23:35
Haha fair enough! Premier League XIs always remind me of how good Ferguson was in the transfer market, which is depressing as a Red!

{Ed001's Note - it was very depressing as a Liverpool fan.}

06 May 2017 12:34:24
He did mention Cech.

Reading the list reminds me of how good the Premier League was growing up. Personally I would have tried to fit Zola in that 11 somehow!

{Ed001's Note - oh I forgot all about him. I loved Zola as a player.}

06 May 2017 13:15:21
Don't always agree with the Eds but 001 is quite correct that Souness was a better player than Gerrard. If there was one difference, Souness had a finely tuned machine of a team around him, Gerrard most of the time did not. We have been fortunate to have some of the greatest players wear our shirts and it's great occasionally to savour their contributions.

{Ed001's Note - I think that was Gerrard's biggest problem, because he didn't have that team of greats around him to keep him on the ground as one of the team, rather than the saviour. When he did have quality around him, he was a much better player.}

06 May 2017 13:57:57
Knew the Suarez remark would grind your gears. Just messing around.

But seriously- I agree with Putney about Henry. He'd be my first attacker on this kind of team, even ahead of Shearer. Absolute joy to watch him drift out on the left side, skip past a couple of defenders and curl one in at the far post. Seems like he did that 50 times, everyone knew about it but no one could do anything about it.

{Ed001's Note - I loved him as a player, but as I had decided to go on consistent quality, rather than just giving it to flash in the pans who had an outstanding season, to reduce the number of strikers, I cut it down to just players who had 300 appearances or more in the Prem. Otherwise I would have been unable to pick.}

06 May 2017 14:09:36
Have to agree with ed01 over souness. The complete midfielder. Outatanding . Re gerrard afain eds right in rafas best team gerrard was at his best.

06 May 2017 15:13:52
You must have had brain freeze Ed. No Biscan?

{Ed001's Note - dammit I know I forgot someone!}

06 May 2017 17:26:23
Surprised fowler never got a mention ed?

{Ed001's Note - he got a mention.}

06 May 2017 19:23:04
Apologies ed. So much for my reading skills.

{Ed001's Note - that's ok mate. I am sure they are better than my writing skills ;-)

06 May 2017 09:03:37
After the things Trent has been saying recently, I really hope he gets a decent chance next season, and I don't mean a few run outs in the early stages of the league cup.

Believable15 Unbelievable0

06 May 2017 18:31:00
Klopp wants him in the team next season but he wants Trent to work on his defensive side.

06 May 2017 08:34:51
Lots of talk about coutinho leaving for Barcelona or real Madrid, if he does go I like the look of lanzini I think we would have a great chance of getting him would be a worthy replacement.
Just putting it out there really

Not sure what all the talk about replacing Clyne is either think he has had a solid season.

Believable2 Unbelievable11

{Ed025's Note - de-clyne has been awful payne, very frail defensively and his crossing woeful, i dont know what games you have been watching mate..

06 May 2017 09:02:08
Has clyne actually beat a man and put a cross in this season. For some1 that has pace to burn he just can't get passed a man he seems to turn back and go backward every time. Slows play up.

06 May 2017 09:10:12
I think Clyne can be deceptive because he runs around lots. Beats a man, sprints down the wing, then nothing happens because he can't cross for sh*t. I can't remember the last time he put in a cross that created a chance on goal. He's a nice lad, and I don't think he is the worse RB we've had by any stretch, but playing in the system we do, putting in a decent cross is a pretty important attribute.

06 May 2017 10:28:35
Clyne hits the first defender every time he tries to cross.

06 May 2017 10:36:22
seems to me like we want our full backs to attack like David Ginola and defend like Paolo Maldini!

Give em a break - if they were just asked to defend I'm sure they would be more solid - but they have to play to roles compared to most of the other players.

06 May 2017 11:36:32
Have you noticed how when Clyne lays a simple pass too, it is very rarely on the floor, always bobbling or shin height.
Also, he will stand up his defender, then just go down the line from a standing start. The only times he does anything attacking wise is when he has no time to think, but even then it'll be a mishit shot or an average cross.

06 May 2017 14:13:26
The most one footed player I think I've seen in a red shirt, that includes John Arne!

06 May 2017 14:52:00
Clyne is not, and has never been, an improvement on Glen Johnson. And that doesn't say much either. Is there still no heir apparent to Steve Nicol out there yet? šŸ˜.

06 May 2017 16:12:34
Not sticking up for clyne as i think he is terrible, but the only time i've seen him put in a good cross and assist from it was first game against arsenal for coutinho, i still think that barely made it through arsenals center backs legs aswell.

06 May 2017 18:36:05
Clyne can beat a man? When did that ever happen this season? The guy is pants in almost all facets of the fullback position even tho, he is very fit and a fantastic athlete. Being a good athlete doesn't mean a thing if you have NO ability nor quality in your game. If I could see that then you better believe Klopp has seen it as well hence, he wants him gone at thend of last season and replacements like Ricardo Perreira from Porto (on loan at Nice) are being looked at.
