This question is for ED001 if that's cool? You mentioned that you didn't see us going for Hoilett but in another post you stated we are looking at right wingers. So as far English players goes that only leaves Sinclair and Moses, are these two a possibility for us and if so why would we favour them over Hoilett?

Shortly, either tonight (06/01/12) or tomorrow morning, the Mirror will publish a story about Liverpool fans racially abusing an Oldham player. This is yet again another fabricated story from Maddock. Merseyside Police have confirmed there were no arrests for racial abuse.
Oldham player went Nuts,pointing to Kop.Then started crying.Kuyt had to calm him.Was at game,something did annoy lad.But wouldny put it past-being a Journo in The Kop-Huge coincidence!Mr.Whinge

Well there we have it, a fantastic result to get the players confidence up shadowed by 2 low life's abusing a young lad and to top it off they had the support Suarez shirts on.
I'm guessing some of you were in the KOP tonight, did you not consider how stupid you looked chanting 'i just can't get enough' whilst the whole situation was going on?

having watched the match via the internet it is clear something has been said to the Oldham player, obviously as yet only he and the people close by heard it. I really hope for the sake of our club that it is not racist related and if it is then anyone who was near enough to hear it stand up and point out who it was!! We as a club do not need idiots like this supporting us. Yes we all agrieved at Luis outcome but that does not mean we now have a go at every player who plays against us just due to the colour of his skin, you idiots!!

This was always likely to happen. LFC have set a really bad and defensive example to their fans all the way through the Suarez thing.
You only have to look at some of the comments on this site and others since this incident to understand that LFC helped send their fans into a frenzy of negative comments and opinion about racism.
Sad but true I'm afraid.

just my thought eds, but having watched the match tonight i thought bellamy was man of the match. if he was 10 years younger we would have a player that not only plays every week but would cause devastaion to opposing defences. pity he cant manage 2 games a week. thought ac scored a fantastic goal although did feel he should have come on earlier as dk was slightly inefective throughout. good to see sd score his first maybe he will settle down and score some more. also felt kelly had a good game, and if this thing about johnsons contract saying he has to play when fit then couldnt kelly play rw he would also save money and protect johnsons lack of defending. pity game was marred by some stupid people hope they are banned for life.

Well i was glad with the result and made up for the lads but the game has been tarnished by some little prats in the crowd.
Knowing full well what the club is going through they go and pull a stunt like that, any credibility the club had left after the whole Suarez/evra incident has surely been wiped away now.
Shameful to say the least, on field problems are the least of our worries now! If people didn't already have it on for us they sure as hell will now!
Ashamed doesn't even come close to what I'm feeling now.

Agree, I watched the match and was wondering what happened, I hoped it wasn't this. Then the crowd started boo-ing when he had the ball, they obviously didn't know what had happened but the media won't take that in to consideration.

Liverpool hit by new racism row

Liverpool have been thrust into another race hate row, after a fan was arrested on suspicion of racially abusing Oldham player Tom Adeyemi.
The incident occurred towards the end of the FA Cup tie, when a fan screamed abuse at the young full back, and visibly upset, he turned to confront the man.
Adeyemi was visibly upset, and seemed to be in tears. Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard moved across to the corner of the ground where the incident occurred, and comforted the 20 year old.
Eye witnesses saw two fans wearing Luis Suarez t-shirts, and heard one of them clearly shout "You f***ing black b***ard".
Police immediately moved in to restrain the two suspects, and later confirmed arrests had been made.
A senior Liverpool figure explained afterwards that stewards were immediately on the scene, and he said: "We will do everything in our power to investigate the matter and ensure the appropriate action is taken."
The incident could not have come at a worst time for the club, following the controversy that has raged over the Suarez affair, who was banned for eight matches for racist abuse of Manchester United's Patrice Evra.
The FA are now sure to investigate, and Liverpool could face sanctions for failing to control their supporters.

There were actually three people dressed in Suarez T shirts, Scarves and jokers hats. Words were saidbetween both one of them and Adeyemi. According to Setanta match commentators, one of their reporters stood in the players tunnel at the end of the game heard the fourth Official tell a Police Officer that one of them called Adeyemi a F*****g Manc B*****d.

Great to see Downing and Carroll on the scoresheet tonight. A great win and we dont give up when weose a goal which is so important. Shelvey scored as well which is great for the lad.
I dont know what the incident was about so lets wait and see the refs report but if it was one or two fans doing what they shouldnt be doing then i can see a life ban for them. Lets hope it was only one or two silly people that can be spotted. But lets just wait and see what is said.

I dont know what happened but judging by the player being brought to tears, we are all thinking the same thing. If this is the case then its a disgrace, just simply a disgrace and not acceptable. After trying to draw some kind of line under the Saurez/Evra incident. I'll be hoping like all of you that what we are thinking could of occurred tonight its not the case. Its like almost like we are become some sought of feeder club for the tabloids. Attention we don't need after a decent result and importantly much needed goals from AC & Downing but I wonder what the media will concentrate on in the papers and media in the upcoming days?. We are a family club, with pride, integrity and rich history but the media are doing a wonderful job in trying to dispel the values we hold and the image of the club to the mass media.

There were three fans sat near the corner flag wearing joker hats and Luis Suarez scarves and replicas of the Luis Suarez T shirts the players wore the other week. Oldham won a throw-in and Adeyemi went to take it. Thosuands of people were chantuing Luis Suarez and those three - who were literally a couple of yards from Adeyemi were really going for it. At the same time the Latics fans were chanting 'There's Only One Man Utd'. It all seemed to get to much for Adeyemi and he appeared to break down in tears. RED LENIN

Well played Oldham, they really took the game to us in the first half and closed us down and stopped us passing it but they couldn't keep it going for 90-minutes.
Much improved second half from us. Chuffed for Andy Carroll and Downing to score in front of the Kop tonight, hopefully that will give them a bit of confidence.
Couldn't care less that Carroll missed a sitter - at least he was in there on the end of a decent cross and that is what we have been asking for. Put balls like that in there and he will score more than he misses.

Thought Kelly was outstanding along with Shelvey, good young players with real potential. Spearing solid as ever in midfield.

Yes it maybe only Oldham but I am just so pleased for Andy Carroll. You know your weekend is going to be good when the performance is rounded off by a Downing goal and you could see how much those goals meant to the both of them.

Cudn get a good stream on my laptop for the liverpool game so ended up watching huddersfield on sky sports and Rhodes was outstanding surely hes worth a punt would be alot less then wat we paid for carrol and could be a gamble that really pays off dnt want to see liverpool miss out on a great prospect. My screen froze for ages and I missed what was happening with Adeyemi. Looked like he was having to be restrained and the comforted by quite a few team mates plus Kuyt and Gerrard.

Except for Kuyt who appears to have gone into a coma and woken up a non-footballer. Not slighting the man, as I have always been a fan, and have a jersey with his name to prove it. Guys please remember that YouTube videos are as reliable as Scum newspaper stories. It is very easy to dub sound over a video. Liverpool fans are with Saurez when it comes to "cultural differences" and the fact that in his Country this is acceptable, however, he is playing football in our country where this behaviour is not acceptable (unless Evra says it to Ferdinand which makes it ok!!!). We have accepted the ban without appeal, and for one I can't wait to see him back in a few weeks.

While the position on Bent is quite clear, I for one would not be too unhappy with the arrival of bent, providing the cost is right.
He would be a decent addition to any team in my opinion. He would easily bag us atleast 15 goals a season (probably more).
And hes better than pervious strikers; namely N'Gog, Voronin, Jovanovic, Babel, Keane

Hi eds not a rumour but would like your opinion. Have heard today on the radio that QPR are in for Junior Hoilett and Blackburn may be willing to accept in the region of £7mil for him.
Personally I think this price is a steal for such a promising player. Has there been any interest in the player from Liverpool at all? His kind of pace and style is something that could really be what is missing from our current lineup.

Hi all,
Match being shown on Go Sports 2 in Malta, I know other people have posted its being shown in certain countries around the world so thought i'd add this for anyone in Malta and also, the more countries it's being shown in, the better chance you have of getting a decent stream. I always recommend livescorehunter.com, always give you plenty of streams, foreign and English, and always found a decent one,even if I do have to restart after half time sometimes.
One last thing, rain shine, win lose, good performance bad performance, can we please not spend all night slating the team, players,manager. Let's just support,as that's what we are, supporters, we used to be one of, if not the best supporters in the world. We know we are a work in progress,the media tell us every year we are going to win the league and we believe it. Show a bit of realism and just be thankful we are going in the right direction,a lot faster than most teams would after an overhaul of owners,manager,players and very importantly backroom staff.

Would be interesting to see how much the club would get by showing their own games and us fans paid a subscription to them rather than sky? Really hurts me having to pay sky every month and not every game is shown anyway! Got a feeling with the huge fanbase we have it would be a good move, obviously i know its not as straight forward as that but maybe something for the future as was mentioned a few months back-YNWA

I get the feeling I might get a bit of stick for suggesting this. Also its a thought and not really a rumour.
What are your thoughts on possibly trying to get Alan Smith on loan from Newcastle? I know there might not be too much love for this suggestion, considering his pedigree, but he can provide much needed cover for Lucas and Spearing.
He's also in the last year of his contract (as far as I know) and is fit, but cannot find a way into the starting XI.
Any thoughts Eds, Macca, fellow readers? Also, fantastic job eds. This site has become my daily dose of LFC transfer news, and you guys are doing a great job.

Oh my god, people are annoying me saying were looking at a defensive mid replacement for Lucas. This is not true, we have many players capable of playing DM. Spearing, Gerrard, Adam, Henderson. If anything we will be looking at a playmaker and a striker. And if anyone looks likely to join now it's Bent. I don't mind Bent, he has a good goal scoring record, the risk is will he settle in? Bent + Carroll could be a good combo.

Okay Comrades! It's match day and here's how to watch it live for those of you unable to get to the game.
1. Install the browser Google Chrome.
2. Look in the top right (your right) corner and you will see a spanner.
3. Click on the spanner and select 'tools'.
4. Click on extensions
5. At the bottom right (as you look at it) you will see 'Get More Extensions >>'. Select this.
6. In the search box type 'Chrome Live Football' and search.
7. Click on Chrome Live Football and then click on install. (it may download to a holding file in the bottom left as you look at it, in which case as soon as it's finished click there, but mostly it will install itself)

I have found that watching on Chrome Live can be frustrating, as I always seem to have problems with it stopping/pausing or losing the stream, but with sites such as Firstrowsports, I usually manage to watch the match while only having to refresh once or twice. Having lived in Oldham I would advise you not to drink anywhere in the town either in the run-up to or after the match. They have a largely unreported and quite large hooligan element ( Fine Young Casuals ) who prowl the town centre before and after matches You will notice how many Police there are - that's normal). They usually prowl around the stadium, the town centre, along the Ashton Road and the Hollinwood area. Bordering the town centre be aware there are 2 asian estates (Westwood & Glodwick). They are extremely wary of football fans moving through their estates as they have been the victims of football hooligans to many times in the past (which is stupid as they are avid football fans and Liverpool is the most popular team with them). If you want a drink after the game go to nearby towns - Stalybridge (known as Stalyvegas) is pretty good. Don't go down into Manchester if you are identifiably Liverpool fans as the Suarez affair is still pretty prickly for them. To be frank I would recommend Warrington or Chester.
The above regarding drinking in Oldham of course are for the replay next week ( I have a sneaking this will go to a replay )

So far I have thrown two names into the hat for players I genuinely feel are attainable, aren't going to break the bank both in transfer and wages, and most importantly will really enhance the squad.
Those two were Junior Hoilett and Ever Banega.
Now upon hearing the potential availability of a player I have championed since his last premiership exploits, I am willing to put my name to another.
Mauro Zarate. Exceptional striking prowess, a little like Aguero with a touch Luis. He was a little greedy early on, not a bad thin mind, for a striker. However his time at Lazio convinced me that the boy is certainly worth a bid.
So Eds, what do you think?

Loan with a view to buy in June is the way I'd go. If he hits the ground running he could be the difference with the chase for champions league. With a potential front pairing of Zarate, Luis and a touch of maxi/Bellamy is suggest those stubborn defences at Anfield may not be such a problem after all. Defences that hold a tight back line with no room behind tend to only leak goals with short through passes and quick shots. Those four are capable of that and creating.

I watched the Newcastle game and Webb gave every decision to United until they went down 2-0. He denied an obvious penalty, called a foul on Ba when Ferdinand bundled over him, Valencia got away with a lot of questionable fouls, etc. It was honestly ridiculous.
If it weren't for Ba and Cabaye's individual brilliance, then that game could have been very different. After they scored, Webb started to call fouls in Newcastle's favor and continued to do so for the rest of the match.

A bit of good advice regarding the Darren Bent rumours apparently mentioned in the s**te press.(IGNORE IT) They have idea who's after him, they just jnow he is pissed off at Villa and because we are reputed to be desperate for a striker They concoct a bull s**t story. They should be arrested for impersonating a journalist.
Some people who tune into this site state they believe the eds and believe in Macca more and yet when the Eds and Macca tell you a player will not be joining us then believe them.
Another thing don't give the eds stick when they can not provide you with things you want to hear.
I am not crawling round the Eds or Macca, I've no reason to, certainly nothing to gain. Just think they
do a good job and a thankless one.
If we were in Blackburns situation then i would certainly understand the panic in us buying someone, quicker than righgt now, but not us. We could do with a striker and I am sure we will get one.
I think we will sign decent striker in the next week or so but thats just my opinion.

Am I mistaken in thinking hendo and downing were not first choice either. All this talk about Carroll not bein first choice is just another reason to have a go at him. The interest in Darren Bent is very real. In fact Liverpool spoke to the players representatives (yes illegally it happens all the time) quite a few months ago. The problem is this, Villa are insisting on 25mil the reason being Bents contract has a clause which says he can go to a top four club for 18mil. Villa do not consider Liverpool to be a top four club so the sell on fee in the contact is 25mil.
The sell on fee to a top four club is lower I know but this is the case.

I hope that we don't give Sterling a chance tonight. I am a massive fan of him but it really isn't time for him yet. Although its Oldham, we are treating this as a chance to play some of our fringe players which is fine, but Oldham are going into this knowing they have to be at their very best, toughest to get anything out of this if they're lucky. Raheem will be a revelation in a couple of years, peoples bodies mature at differnt rates and if he takes a strong challenge from an old school, dedicated lower league English defender, it could injure him short term, do lasting damage long term and also completely destroy his confidence when what he's doing now doesn't work with seasoned proffesionals. I am all for giving people a chance, I think it might be an ideal time for Morgan to have a shout as he has the build now that should benefit him, the only other at the moment would be Coady, but Sterling, as much as I want to see the lad as a first team regular because he is going to be something special, it is just too soon for him and I can only see bad results whether it is injury, confidence or form, if he is pushed too soon.
I know many will disagree with me and mention many names who started out early and have been successful, but their builds have been more advanced. I have seen Sterling struggle at times for the reserves when he comes up against an intelligent, strong and bigger full back at reserve level. He is still learning but it's too much to put him in, again, I emphasise, it's not an age thing, its a structural development thing. Give him time so when he does pull on that first team shirt, he is ready and we will be dazzled instead of seeing a crumpled form on the floor thinking, shame, he would of been good if that didn't happen.

Do you know Redknapp enquired about Carroll in that window, apparently was prepared to pay 25-27m? He was told to get lost by Lambias..... people thought he would destroy teams. I really think that Raheem Sterling should be given a chance against Oldham. The lad could inject some much needed pace into the side and you never know might just come in and hit the ground running, so to speak. I'd play him down the right with Downing down the left with the hope that Downing might just get a goal or have a good game which would do his confidence a lot of good, coz thats all he needs at the moment, confidence. I would play Carroll for the same reasons as Downing and I would play Gerrard from the beginning with a view to see how he gets on, he could always come off for Henderson later on. The team I would pick for the Oldham game would be, 4-4-2: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Coates, Robinson, Sterling, Gerrard, Spearing, Downing, Bellamy, Carroll. Subs: Doni, Flanagan, Henderson, Maxi, Kuyt, Morgan
I was thinking exactly the same about Stirling. Lets give the lad a go.

Raheem is a huge talent but the lad needs time, his body is still growing maybe next season, Morgan has more of a chance to get some game time, he seems closer but not quite first team ready so this game could suit him. I would defo like to see Coady tonight not sure if he's fit though. Kelly, Carra, Coates , Robinson. Would like to see Flanno as some point too move Kelly to CB that looks a strong back line.

One ed said that he was a last minute buy and we didn't have much choice at the time. But then I also remember reading that LFC knew about the Torres to Chelsea deal way before it became public.

i can assure you all Bent is not signing. Nor is defoe or Torres. Luuk de jong is most likely. Podolski i seriously doubt also. Saldado would be my personal choice if it were possible but think too soon but i'll keep hoping until summer? Fingers crosssed.
As for Suarez, he may leave but not until summer and not for less than £40 mill i would guess

Anyone read Mancini's interview on ESPN soccer? Complaining he needs new players to compete. This guy really makes me sick. Most expensive team in the world, top of the premier league, and he is publicly asking his owners for more money. I know they will lose the Toure brothers for a month but please! Financial fair play rules clearly don't apply in real life. Mancini as cried like this before (ie. Nasri, Aguero etc. ) and guess what? He always gets what he wants. He wants to get rid of the fringe players.....who by the way, would be in starting 11 in most premier league teams.
Obviously not a post about Liverpool, but it sickens me knowing what we are up against trying to bring the title back to Anfield.

Just watched the Liverpool/City game again. Once the adrenalin and disappointment has gone and you watch the game for what it was, We didn't do that bad. Ok, Kuyt looked out of his depth, and Downing needs to commit his man alot more, but in general we played well.
Spearing had a good game, Henderson didn't stop, And Carroll worked very hard and held the ball up really well considering he was marked by 2 centre halves the whole game.
For me the mistake for the pen was worse than pepes for the 1st goal. Thats the sloppiest piece of play I've seen this season. City have got the best squad in the EPL and arguably Europe (I said squad, not team), so they are gonna have the ability to beat teams without playing that well. Add a RW in this transfer window, and we will kick on and start getting the results our play deserves.

Mainly agree although not going to agree on Carroll. I was at anfield against Newcastle and watched Carroll a fair bit off the ball. He didn't seem interested at all. This is why I don't believe that he will come good.
Kuyt has been a fantastic player for Liverpool but perhaps it's time for him to move on. Like Carragher, we can't just keep playing players out of loyalty - it won't get us anywhere.
We did play well against Man City. They certainly didn't walk over us as some of the media suggested! Even at 2-0 down I thought we could get a draw if Gerrard came on and got some fantastic balls to Carroll.
Im looking forward to the rest of the season if Gerrard can stay fit. We're playing great passing football but lacking the type of balls that cut a defence open..but then we're lack the type of player who can take advantage of such balls. Too much passing out for crosses to an out of form Carroll.

Bent will not be signing for Liverpool. 100% sure. His wage demands are too high and we feel he would only want to move here for the money. We also feel he is too one dimensional.
Torres wont be signing for Liverpool. He will either stay at Chelsea or go to PSG. We feel he wont get back to his very best again and there is also a sour relationship between the management and Torres created upon departure.
Deal for Tiote close to being agreed at 14m rising to 20m potentially through add ons. We are trying to get it wrapped up before he heads off for the ACON but seems unlikely. He is going to be asking for special leave during January at some point if we can agree a deal with Newcastle.
We have made a 2nd enquiry for Junior Hoilett, Spurs are in for him but he thinks he will get more first team action with us and most likely a higher wage packet no doubt...

All the reports here of Bent must have some substance but at 27 years of age and to pay 18million + for him is an absolute disgrace. I think if this deal happens you would have to wonder what the King is up to. This money could be spent on better players.

Nope. This is all British media hype. I live in Canada. Obviously things aren't a whole lot different over here in terms of culture, etc. but when it comes to media circus, British media takes the cake. I 'want' to beleive LS is not as put through the report a less credible witness that PE. Conjecture is abound, there are 'i believe' issues of credibility both of due process in disclousre of evidence, and witness relaiablity of PE's responses to actions and in particular words uttered. Sorry to bring the subject up again but had to make a comment about the British Press concerning Suarez. They have been championing the cause for anti racism behaviour the last few months and it seems a bit rich for me as all of them have either blatantly or covertly had articles or headlines in the past which to me were deemed racist. Some of them are not called right wing for nothing. If you don't believe me, next time digest their articles very carefully on issues of immigration, Europe, Middle East for example. I am of Asian origin and been a Liverpool supporter since 1965 and have seen support from citizens of all back grounds now at Anfield. We are not called the best supporters in the world for nothing. Oh by the way i wonder what J Terry will get if found guilty.

We won't be signing anyone. All the rumours here are pure fantasy. The owners admitted last year that January is not the best time to buy, but bought Suarez to show their support, and were forced into a deal for Carroll due to unexpected loss of Torres. I don't see them paying over the odds again, especially after the early 'return' from Downing et al has been below value. Buying new players will not guarantee top 4 spot, and in fact, may disturb the chemistry of the team. However, if someone leaves (ie. Kuyt) I suspect a right sided player will be sought. Carroll is our striker. Accept it and support him.

This is the first time to be here after last summer. The first thing that surprised me is to read is the idea of Suarez's departure. And what surprised most is when I see some of the editors are entertaining the idea as well while they would usually disregard these kind of comments immediately. My question is, has any thing happened or said to suggest that ? are you telling me the club wants to sell a player whom they defended to the extent it may damage their reputation ? are you saying Kenny's last comment " how can you replace luis suarez " was a bulls**t ?
I want to hear some answers from editors please.
My other question is, I thought mauro zarate was on a season long loan at Inter. Is it possible to loan him again while his current loan contract is running ?

It looks like some sort of spoof behind the scenes documentary. Whilst it doesn't help Evra, it's irrelevant to the case & is clutching at yet another straw.
It's also 'semi-acceptable' for black people to call each other the 'N' word and is often used in rap songs and stand up comedy (Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Bernie Mac etc)
The sentence has been passed and accepted without appeal. Time to move on

Saw this a while back and didnt think it had much relevance at the time as it just showed that sorry excuse for a man Evra just being an eejit and of coure , he's black (or is that not ok to say now?) so he was saying ' the n word' in an ironic way as it is used by some African Americans ....But... it has become relevant in light of statements made by Evra in the hearing or kangaroo court of the f.a when in reference to words that were used by Suarez . Evra said (and Im paraphrasing because i couldnt be arsed anymore) that they were words he ''would never use'' and therefore so much more upsetting and painful for him to be subjected to. Its all a load of b****cks anyway. The f.a have opened up a can of worms and it is almost comical to hear discussions about racism and what is and is not racist. a bit like a monty python sketch at times. i would hate to belittle racism , especially in a week when two men were convicted of murder after an 18 year struggle by the family of the victim , who was killed because he was black to get justice. It goes to show how farcical the circus surrounding the suarez case has become , not here , which is (no offence eds) just a banter page , but in the mass media etc. Evra is a (whatever expletive you desire) but you'd expect and maybe even respect the fact that if he was charged with whatever accusation , the club would stand by him, when at the end of the day it was two lads talking s**t.

From what i have read on different websites etc, i can gather that we will not be signing Darren Bent. The rumours are all speculation and just that and that will not happen. De Jong or Jelavic looks more likely from what i can gather.
