"My source has told me that liverpool are targetting to bring in 4 players in Jan: Honda, Banega, Payet, Dann. Players leaving include: Babel, Jovanovic, Poulsen. This is 100 true, however my source has told me that acquiring Payet may prove difficult, and if that deal falls through Antoine griezmann will be lined up."
I believe this is only a rumour but if we get Honda, Banega, Dann, then we will be back in a big way. They also will be great value as they may cost a total of only 30-35m.
It would be great if we could get Sakho from PSG as well. Strong and quick defender who knows how to pass and can play anywhere in the back four but especially on the left side. Could possibly be available for 10m.

Looks like it's another tattoo for Torres.
Also, maybe Torres was worrying about Ollala in the recent weeks, so maybe he has not been fully focused. Before Nora was born, Torres was poor at the Euros, however the next season was fantastic. Maybe now he will be more relaxed and back to his very best.
If Torres scores in the weekend, expect the thumb sucking celebration!
Oh and maybe Xabi Alonso to be godfather?

Regerding Roy Hodgson's substitutuons , we can simply understand that Aurelio and Cole are working there way back to matchh fitness from injury and Martin Kelly is good for the experience he gains .
I think some people are even now , more concerned with finding fault than realising progress .
Roy Hodgson and the LFC team are improving every month .

Hard to see where Roy Hodgson is going to bring Steven Gerrard back into the team , 4-4-2 is working really well , Raul Meireles and Lucas Leiva are making it work and the best position for Steven Gerrard is the centre midfield , I know Rafa Benitez would revert to 4-2-3-1 and pick all of his best players , but how will Roy Hodgson handle the situation , perhaps dropping Lucas or Meireles and Ngog or Babel for Gerrard and Torres would be the simplest .
The team is really taking some shape and starting to find some form , maybe Jovanovic will get a strikers chance before the end of the season , Roy Hodgson is certainly going about the job patiently .

We all know how good Babel can be. He is just one of these players that needs to be told he is fantastic, and to just go out and play. Look what happened when Hiddink got hold of Drogba.
As for January, I would like us to buy a quality left back, my preference being Cissokho, a winger, and I think we should play Honda there. Ed I know Honda has good ball distribution, but does he have enough pace to be a winger?

Todays game maxi lost the ball a few times but scored a great finish (like the Torres goal v reading) so don't know what to think of him.
{ ed? } {ed's note - he cuts down the space a bit much but he is playing well, sometimes you just have to make adjustments to the team to get the width from other players. We just need a better left back to get forward if we are going to keep him on the left in my opinion.}
Fully agree. i think Kuyt is only reall good for the big teams like chelsea i would like to see cole on that side instead.

Great performace tonight by the reds however, i think Roy may now think that we do not need to make them signings us red fans crave, judging by his previous comments about our squad being a lot better than he first thought.
Thought Babel an Ngog looked a quality partnership in the first half with Babel going slightly missing in the 2nd half. Credit to Roy for not letting Ngog go when he had the chance to as it looks like he could be the real deal. The more he plays the better he's getting. Lucas and Raul were also quality in the middle.
A lot of people last night were mentioning big news today possibly concerning Honda. Anyone have any updates on this. What a quality addition he would be?
Hopefully a few more good performances over the festive period and before we know it, we could find ourselves back up the top. If only we'd have started well!

Roy Hodgson will not be leaving he is starting to get the team to play how he wants with good passing, positioning and style ect. After jan when he will be bringing in 1 or 2 players we will be looking at a more complete team we could still do with a LB, Winger(speedy one) and a ST maybe a CM aswell.

Decent enough performance tonight especially 1st half, but when are Andy Gray and Richard Keys gonna stop getting digs in at Rafa ( he's gone for god sake ) saying that Houllier left a better squad behind than Rafa left for Roy, patently not true. Should Gerrard come inside, Glen Johnson will provide the width, and Kelly has the pace to cover for him. {ed's note - I am all for that mate, I like the look of your team much better than having Gerrard come straight back into the middle. It is nice that we actually have a problem choosing who starts for the right reasons.}

You see, this is a very good point. What do you do for the next game if Gerrard is fit? Drop Meireles or Lucas? Put Meireles out right or Gerrard behind Torres, so changing the 4-4-2 that's done quite well of late!

Looking at the goals again and listening to these so called analysts. Everytime liverpool score im having to hear of how poor villa were instead of how good we were. Babel scored an excellent goal and the 3rd from maxi was wonderful, but no. "Villa were poor, no defenders covering blah blah blah". Gimme a break. But anyways, great win boys and a big thumbs up to the 2 boys in the middle lucas and raul. I think that maybe its because they are both portuguese speaking?
PS ed, what is joe cole's role in the team? I was excited by this signing but he looks no better than j.pennant, voronin, degen, el zhar, etc.

Get a Sky package mate. It's cheaper to just have multiple channels and pay monthly for the lot than pay a hefty subscription fo Sky Sports.
We had normal Sky, and got Sky+ HD for free installed. I got a good package for £20 per month.

Even though we played against a lethargic villa side it was a much better display today! i got a little worried around the 50th minute we were dropping off, then a good supply ball for maxi's goal by n'gogg. there were a lot of positives, koncheskey's save off the line, the greek was unlucky, babel was lively and so forth, a few rough edges, but better! great to see alonso.

Hey ed lay off Babel, its 'fans' like you that groan and moan when players make mistakes at games, which makes them nervous and dents their confidence. Babel was good tonight. Took his goal really well, his touch was good, and so was his hold up play. Maybe if the lad was given a fair go up front he might make a good foil for Torres. Maybe all he needs is a manager to have a bit of faith in him, and maybe the fans to not criticise his every move. Even when he scores your looking for flaws ed, says a lot! {ed's note - not true at all, when I go to the game I back the lads, I save my moaning for away from the pitch. As for looking for flaws, there is no need to look for them when they are so obvious in Babel, he is simply not doing enough with the ability he has. Good win. Nice to see us play with 2 up front, and congratulations to Jose Manuel Pepe Reina for getting his 100th league clean sheet. Meireles played well, and I would put Babel up front with Torres next game, just to see if Babel can get some form.
P.S ed do you think we should play Gerrard on the right next game? We need 2 up front, and Lucas and Meireles seem to be playing well in the middle together. {ed's note - it might be an idea to get some width in the team, but I can't see that happening, Gerrard will come straight in I have no doubt of that.}

If there was ever a game that made the forwards & defenders look like world beaters, this was it. Villa were shocking & we capitalised. It was great to see us win without 3 of our biggest players tho. Thought Ngog played really well & Meirelles never gave away a pass, but like I said, Villa were awful.

Well played reds. a professional performance against a very poor villa side. .3rd goal was really good counter attack. .
ngog was good, and is getting better massive potential in this lad. . lucas again another good solid game. and mereles i thought was man of the match. .
really happy we are starting to beat lower teams, lets hope we can build on this now and go on a run. .
its looking more and more like roy is gonna be here till the end of the season so lets back our boys and try and and get in the top 4, just so we can try and improve the squad next season better.

Yep Luis was inconsistent. but he was exciting. .God we could do with some excitement these days. {ed's note - exciting is good and on his game he was fantastic, but it was just not often enough that he played well for my liking. I think I was spoilt growing up with the likes of Dalglish, Rush, Barnes, Beardsley etc that played well more often than not.}

Why exactly are you sorry? I don't imagine this is true for one minute but let's just say it is for the sake of this discussion. NESV paper over the cracks and sell us on for a profit. In fact it's quite hard, in football, to paper over cracks, because they are made apparent at least once a week. To paper over the cracks they would have to make us in a good standing with regards to the league as league standings don't lie. To do that they are going to have to buy players that are better than the ones they intend on replacing. Also if they want to maximise the desirability of the club they will probably want to build a new or renovate the current stadium. They are then going to want a massive fee for the club probably close to what Hicks and Gillette wanted originally. The only people that could afford and are willing to pay that price are going to be ones that really want a football club in the first place and also be and mega wealthy.
So to sum up they are going to have to turn Liverpool FC as club around as we at present are not as desirable as we were a couple of years ago as we are not competing for top honours. The only thing that makes us desirable is the Fan Base. So if NESV want to make us successful again and then sell us to a mega rich owner then fine by me. Thank you NESV for turning us around.
Again Its clearly not true as I doubt NESV would of gone to all that trouble with the court case and angering there Red Sox baseball fans who believe LFC going to be a drain on their teams finance, unless they really wanted to own and make another success story.

So, good performance from Liverpool. Babel, Lucas and Meireles have been the best performers for the home side. Kuyt was below par. Johnson has been a bit timid, seems to concentrate on his defensive duties. Skrtl made one gross error while Soto has had nothing to do. The rest of the team has been adequate. If you ask me, if Jovanovic and Cole don't get at least 30 minutes each it'll mean Roy doesn't want them to succeed.

So we buy Honda (who can play any attackin position), will he play just behind Torres or play on the troublesome left wing or will we get a left winger too? I feel if we get a left winger too we'll have the balance we really need. . I think this transfer window will be more important than the Summer transfer window, if we can get into the Champions League places at the end of the season its worth £20 million to us for just getting into the competition plus whatever the league give us for our league position and TV monies . . I am getting a little sick of the newspapers writing BS about players going here and going there. Half of the stuff turns out to be made up. That's why I won't believe any rumour until it matrialises. I predict Liverpool will spend good money during the window and that's all anyone can agree or disagree on. All I have to go on is that it is easy to see that two or three players are all it takes to get this team back on track until the end of the season. A more consitent team will easily finish in the top 4 this year, if NESV wait it might take a few years and much more money to accomplish the same thing.

total sold £145,000,000
now that's a little more than 15m net spend.
you asked me that, if i only had 20m and we needed 4 players how would we get a top class winger? but i ask you, surely mate after 3 or 4 years in charge he shouldt have to be buying 4 players in one summer, the squad should have been in place, and that 15- 20m could have been spent on 1 maybe 2 at most, quality players.
im not trying to get your back up mate, and was using spurs as an example, nothing more.
its just frustrating to know that 2 years ago we took manure all the way to end, and just missed out, and now we are looking at a rebuild of anything up to 5 years, because teams like city and the spuds are at the same level or higher than we are, and without cl football will miss out on the targets we need to compete at the top again.

And in reply to your point about signings, hindsight is a wonderful thing. It's easy to look back on Summers and say that such and such a player failed and this player could have been signed instead. So I don't buy that point at all.

If people were not lining up to snap up the club for cheap, you won't find a big market for it after all the cracks have been plastered over and its value is at its highest. Football clubs generally lose money, that's a fact. If they bought it when they did, it was to fix it and reap the benefits themselves and that doesn't happen shortly.
if this is the case, why in heavens name did NESV buy us out, and clear the club of major debt and save us from almost certain administration? if they wanted us to sell for profit, why did they not wait, let us go into administration and just buy us for a bargain basement price, straight from RBS and co, paper the cracks, then sell , oh and while we are at it asset strip the club and players! this theory is utter rubbish, NESV are not another H&G

Spain and Portugal are in a terrible state economically. Not even Barcelona and Real Madrid will be able to escape the consequences. They are both massively in debt. Don't believe all those people who seem to think that the Spanish banks will not ask for these debts to be repaid. Hence lots of fairly cheap world class/ v.good / good players available in the coming months for transfer to the more economically sound northern European leagues.

The NESV group are very much into football, and not the American throwball, they are also HUGE fans of LFC. Why they are keeping this quiet is beyond me but a friend of some of the group whose name is Joe Scarborough who is a morning news person here in the U.S. did an interview when the club was bought and he explained how they made him a LFC fan, he actually does a segment on the EPL monday mornings, he went on to say they have an alter to LFC and the Istanbul victory set up in the offices. They showed him the game and that's what made him a fan. I'm sure you can you tube the interview. My point is get over the H&G saga and move on, NESV have the clubs interests not only for business but more importantly from the heart. Strange things could happen? not sure what he means by this , also when he says clubs are under pressure to sell (abroad clubs) , he must be talking about clubs that are high in debt for example valencia , does that mean we could make a move for either mata , banega , pablo hernandez , it will be a good chance to make a move for these sort of players if clubs like valencia need to sell to reduce the debt. banega would be a bargain if we could get him for under £10m which i think we could , would you agree ed?

I have heard people criticise Roy Hodgson for not having the experience of working with top quality players , apart from the recruitment drive of european talent due under Damien Comolli during the following years , it does not seem much of a issue to me as the LFC squad is far from being a world class group at present .
Players such as Skrtel , Aurelio , Krygiakos , Lucas , Ngog , Kuyt , Maxi , Jovanovic , Babel et al are pretty average in terms of 'SuperClub' players and only Kuyt , Gerrard , Torres , Reina and Carragher have played with any confidence over the last 18 months and yes 2 of Roy Hodgsons signings thus far are average signings I agree , but the squad available presently is one that Roy Hodgson is enjoying working with , particularly the few World class talents we have at the monent , I think that Roy Hodgson can improve his game the more quality is available to him in the squad .
Most of the players are starting to improve after the difficult circumstances earlier in the season and the team is learning to play in a different way , hopefully a better way in the long term .
Now that we have an 'English Manager' in charge I hope he continues to improve playing an old fashioned 'pass and move' 4-4-2 to get the results that all the hard work deserves , achieving the success that can give us a 'Great Britsh Manager' again .

I think the issue people have is not that we have too many world class players for Hodgson to be able to work with; it's that they don't trust Hodgson to buy world class players or to attract them. Also although I agree with you that Hodgson is probably enjoying working with LFC players I fear that the players are not enjoying working with him, particularly our more talented ones.
I also agree on your sentiments hoping that our team improves and that our team plays a passing and move style however the word continue I would have to argue with, I would use the word start, as the style of play we have seen under Hodgson seems to be score and defend, with clearing the ball back to the oppositions defence the main strategy. I would love to see Roy succeed and our players happy but at the moment it looks the exact opposite. I think we'll have Roy for the rest of the season as NESV will not rush things and will wait till they find the right person. They have got Damien Comolli to sign players so I expect if Roy asks for Carlton Cole he will probably be refused. Of all the people rumoured in the press to be leaving I hope we keep Agger and I think Lucas has improved allot this year and hopefully if he goes we get a Very good price and a better player in return.

Just seen on Sky Sports News that Roy Hodgson is planning a £10,000,000 move for. . Connor Whickham! In mean I am a big admirer of his and would love to see him join his boyhood club and play with his idol Fernando Torres. But £10 bleeping Million!
I do agree that 10 million is far too much but he is an obvious talent and would rather us spend out on him than another team grab him and see him turn into a top player. As far as I know it is only paper talk but lets hope there is something in this story.

Missed out on ronaldo cause his wages were too high.

aaron lennon. . very good
roman pav. . .we tried to sign him in the summer
dimitar berbatov. . love or hate, good player
essou ekotto (spelling). . better than konchesky
younes kaboul. . better than what we have now
luka modric . .unsure if it was a comolli signing but was around that time.
the list is endless, he has an eye for talent for sure. but the manager has to believe in signings for it to work, if roy or who ever is in charge does not work with comolli, then there will be problems, and another robbie keane, signed by parry never played by benitez to prove a point. do you agree ed?

he made some good buys and some bad ones like everyone else. I don't think he brought Lennon in and we all knew bale had world class potential. Luka Modric was a fantastic buy. I think he's one of the best midfielders in the pl. Slighty behind gerrard and fabergas. Another good buy he did was gomez. Had a shakey start but is proving his worth. He buys players with good potential. I hope he buys young talent like modric and bale. He also was able to get the most amount of money from selling players. Like berbatov for 30 million. I'm
sure levy helped but he had a part of play in that deal. Does anyone else hate spurs? I don't know why but I hate tottenham so h*cking much.

Thats because they can defeat anyone (chelsea, liverpool, arsenal, etc) but some how manage to get themselves defeated and humiliated by manchester united (even if they are 2-0 up)

is this guy serious or just mental, gerrard is regarded as one of if not the best midfielder in the world by players, coaches, pundits and even the media (strange i know being the liverpool captain) luka modric is a very good player but now were near the calibre of mr gerrard. next thing there gonna be telling us gomes is as good as reina or defoe is as good as torres! ! ! pah! !
also gerrard would walk into any team in the world and that includes barcelona! !

I would just like to add a few points on the tottenham hotspurs issue.
I think they have played well last and so far this season but it does not mean they are anything special, this seasion your stokes, sunderlands etc are doing very well also, I don't think any team can be judged as this season is very odd. One thing I always say to fellow supporters that take the mickey when pool loose is that what goes around come as around. when spurs win something (unlikely) then fair enough but we will see at the end of the season how they have done. . . . . them finishing 3rd/ 4th is like winning the league or europe. . bless em! ! this is one of the worst seasons for a liverpool fan that i can think of and one of the best for a spurs fan and were only a few points off them in the prem.
If this is there best i would hate to see there worst! ! ynwa

Alright Ed, seem to be pickin up pace about honda. By all accounts sound like a good player but I only seen him play in the world cup briefly so dnt really know what type of player he his. If u could compare to another player, who u say he mostly like? {ed's note - I can't think of one mate, it is really difficult to compare him with someone when he plays so many positions!}
how about our golden boy stevie g then, he can play of striker, rm, lm, cm, rb prob even gk if u asked him lol

I have heard people criticise Roy Hodgson for not having the experience of working with top quality players , apart from the recruitment drive of european talent due under Damien Comolli during the following years , it does not seem much of a issue to me as the LFC squad is far from being a world class group at present .
Players such as Skrtel , Aurelio , Krygiakos , Lucas , Ngog , Kuyt , Maxi , Jovanovic , Babel et al are pretty average in terms of 'SuperClub' players and only Kuyt , Gerrard , Torres , Reina and Carragher have played with any confidence over the last 18 months and yes 2 of Roy Hodgsons signings thus far are average signings I agree , but the squad available presently is one that Roy Hodgson is enjoying working with , particularly the few World class talents we have at the monent , I think that Roy Hodgson can improve his game the more quality is available to him in the squad .
Most of the players are starting to improve after the difficult circumstances earlier in the season and the team is learning to play in a different way , hopefully a better way in the long term .
Now that we have an 'English Manager' in charge I hope he continues to improve playing an old fashioned 'pass and move' 4-4-2 to get the results that all the hard work deserves , achieving the success that can give us a 'Great Britsh Manager' again .
