Hey eds I know we are interested in Matt Ryan but is he interested in us? I mean he just had a good season for the falcons capped off by a pro bowl slot, acheived his second highest passing yards but he really buckled when he threw 2 picks in the all in game against the panthers.

Ok ok i'm going. Dolphins FTW

Our style of football is outdated and predictable.
A few of our players are simply not good enough.
I won't be more specific for fear of being shot down but as a Club we are doing very little to change public perceptions about modern football and money.
We have spent as heavily as anyone and delivered very little.
I would be proud of our club if we'd have made a stance and spent less whilst bringing through talent from the reserves. God forbid we should look closer to home for our future talent!!
The recent defeats have highlighted our deficiencies big-style.
Sell Sterling and sack Rogers !!
Bring in Rossiter and sell Johnson, Balotelli, Lucas, Toure, Lambert, Borini, Allen, Loveren, Mignolet, Manquillo and Sturridge.
Starting from "scratch" needn't be too painful.
Too often Rodgers picks a starting eleven which only he and Pascoe believe in. the rest of us are dumbfounded. Sterling as a lone striker is beyond a joke. If the squad is so thin that he can't find a decent striker then Rodgers should admit his own shortcomings in the transfer-market. Balotelli, Borini and Lambert are rubbish.
Okay, we had a good run and we have winged it in the F.A.Cup so far but this has been another disappointing season.
If Rodgers stays we NEED a director of football. Rafa Benitez might not be a bad shout but I would prefer not to go in that direction.
Choices are limited when you are a "sleeping giant" (I hate that term) but we are no longer a massive draw.
If we don't go down the D.O.F. route and we can attract Tony Pulis as a defensive coach with someone like Jan Molby to help out with our midfielders I would be confident.
Whatever, we need more professional guidance so we don't capitulate as easily as we did at Arsenal. That was utterly pathetic.

This is on the main a well stated post but selling Lucas and tony pulis as a defensive coach let's you down. Firstly Lucas is fantastic and first to every ball in midfield. I didn't rate Lucas a lot until I first saw him live. he's unbelieveably underrated and it's no coincidence that our form greatly improves when he is in the side. Secondly how could you possibly think that tony pulis would take a job as a defensive coach when he's a successful premier league manager?!

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - more to the point, his team's defensive has been woeful this season, his coaching is not good anyway, he just employs effective, if ugly, tactics.}

07 Apr 2015 07:31:12
Director of Football would be the death knell for our club. It just doesn't work. Appoint a proven experience Manager and give him full control. Then, he lives and dies by his own decisions. Can't you see that we are already halfway down the DoF route with the ridiculous Committee and it has failed badly.

No doubt FSG will appoint one soom, as they know absolutely nothing about football!

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - how does it not work? All the most successful clubs in world football have them. In fact only in Britain are we so far in the past that we don't have the same system at every club, though it works fine at Chelsea and Man City.....}

07 Apr 2015 08:49:11
Ed you say all the successful clubs in the world have a dof. But most of those clubs change managers almost annually while the dof stays.Do we really want to go down that road in our league. If you have the wrong dof it is just as bad as having the wrong manager, but if you have the wrong dof and a good manager that is the recipe for disaster

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Low profile DoFs such as Manchester City and Chelsea have work just fine.}

07 Apr 2015 09:15:08
So basically Red Since 64 your argument for not having a DOF is that we might appoint the wrong guy? Seems like a poor argument for me - no position works if you hire poorly into it, that argument could be used to say that we shouldn't have groundskeepers!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 11:44:20
Ed001,yeah, it's working well at Man City, isn't it? The way they're going they'll be scrapping for 4th place with us! As for Mourinho, do you think he gets overruled by a DoF? The 2 English clubs you mention have been successful for one reason, and one reason only, they have had Owners who have thrown shed loads of money at them. They've worked despite a DoF, not because of one!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You are speaking from a position of complete ignorance. The Directors of Football at both clubs have proven to be a great help to the managers. And yet again some jerk seems to ignore the massive amounts of money Liverpool has invested in players.}

07 Apr 2015 12:41:26
And you ..........

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am sure the owners and club would be happy if ungrateful brain dead trash like you were to find another team to support.}

06 Apr 2015 22:24:00
So frustrating at mo, genuinely believe we are not that far away from having a squad to compete regularly for the league. With mostly a young side so should be good for years. Was a supporter of br but I now think enough is enough too many lapses of judgment . Shame at times been the best football we have played in years. Hendo situation is concerning wandering if it's a problem between him and br? This is going to sound a bit harsh but apart from the usual suspects I think we should sell markovic, over loaded in that area and would help to raise funds for more pressing areas. I know not been given a chance yet but who else. Would ask all to lighten up on sterling a bit, is a good player and we need to keep players of that quality to compete at the highest levels.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

06 Apr 2015 23:54:34
Agree with your sentiments, also that one of our problems is overloaded with attacking mids (Sterling, Coutinho, Llalana, Markovic) but not many genuine all rounder midfielders or holding mids (Can is still young, Lucas is good defensively but lacks pace/passing range). This only leaves Hendo as genuine top 4 challenger in the midfield.

Agree we should have spent Markovic's 20mln on a Schneiderlin or similar but since he's already in the side, I'd keep him and instead sell Allen and Lucas for one truly great midfielder to sit alongside Hendo and help drive the team forward for years to come. Can should be their apprentice.

07 Apr 2015 07:55:07
Not sure I agree mate. All of the other sides above us, except Chelsea, have stuttered badly at various points this season and really failed to impress - Arsenal are on a good run but were pretty average earlier in the season; United have played badly, scraped points, but are miles ahead of us now; City have been woeful but are easily ahead of us and will certainly remain so in my opinion.

In spite of all that we still languish a long way from them and are in closer competition to Southampton & Spurs than the mythological top 4. And when you talk about competing for a title - I mean you see the strength of, say, Chelsea, and compare it to our team and there is really no comparison. I think there needs to be a long term change in terms of how we approach our business dealings, how we conduct our transfers, how we use our youth/academy. I know Ed002 has said that a lot of changes have already been made - time will tell how successful they are - but I really think we need some forward thinking and serious, structured planning as we are still being run it a fairly amateurish way: money thrown down the drain, academy misused, youth misused, way too much public airing of what you be private, behind closed doors matters for the club, the list goes on. When these issues are rectified we will start to see changes, consistent changes, on the pitch.

My worry is that, as has been mentioned by other posters, it is debatable as to whether or not the owners will be around for the long term - that in itself may be a problem.

p.s. this is no criticism of the owners - simply a statement that we, as a club, need a long term target, a forward thinking plan for our medium to long term future (hopefully) at the top. If the owners may look to "get out", as it were, within the next say, 5 years, then the sort of structure and plan we really need may not come to fruition.

p.p.s. This is not a call to arms to spend wildly - if anything we need a thorough, thought out transfer policy as our transfer dealings have, in recent times, been some of the worst in the league.

Ed you said that sterlings contract has a further 2 years to run. Is it possible, that his agent has recognised the new tv deal comes into force within that time scale, could be one of the reasons they're holding out. Huge impulse in capital, could potentially alter wages significantly. Obviously I don't have a clue, just a thought. :) cheers

{Ed002's Note - No.}

06 Apr 2015 20:34:19
Eds can I ask your honest opinion on what realistic managers/coaches out there available or not that would a. Take the LFC job if available and b. In your eyes be a really good choice.

I'm seeing previous replies to very similar questions, but I'm thinking things have changed so much in such little time that your original opinions and options must have changed. Things like potential options having signed new deals. Important players not currently signing new contracts. CL football looking impossible at this stage. These things must have now changed the possibilities and your thoughts on choices.

So at this stage who do you think is good enough and willing to take this project.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really think it would be wrong to speculate at this time. I have given various opinions already - and they won't have changed.}

07 Apr 2015 09:47:12
So the contract situations, lack of CL football maybe even any European football will not affect any of your previous options?
That's good I guess
But what about the options FSG might have considered? Could they now shift from a young coach as that's failed, to go for proven name with a trophy filled cv?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - (a) The contract situations have changed nothing in my view. There was interest in Sterling as I have explained for a number of months and that interest remains. (b) I gave you a list of players that the club have shown an interest in with a caveat and a list of players the club may look to if they managed to get in to the Champions League - they have shown no interest in those players. (c) FSG were promised that the club would be challenging for the Premier League title and the Champions League - I have explained over and over that Rodgers has failed miserably on both fronts. (d) FSG have taken advise for about 10 months now on all aspects of the club and that process continues as I have explained repeatedly. They will do what they feel is best for the club going forward.

I don't know why you think my view on any of this would have changed.}

07 Apr 2015 22:31:13
Ed I thought the questions were asked weeks ago while we were on that run of good results. We looked as if top four was almost there. There was no press regarding Sterling or Hendo. Managers linked like Simeone have signed new deals.

Now it's changed over the last month. Similar to the caliber of player we could attract with CL football, there is a B list of players without, I thought maybe the managers job would be the same. Looking at how Rodgers lack of experience is showing, maybe previous candidates of younger coaches are viewed as potentially the same pitfalls.
If as example, only as an example, Klopp was keen. Now two of the better players are not signing contracts, to replace them looks harder without the CL football which looked possible. Would he still be as keen? Do we still look just as attractive? If this seems clear would targets move to that B list?

So that's why. Things have changed, is it not out of the ordinary to think options could also then change.
Anyway, thanks for your previous answers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed from what I have said all season. And I certainly never mentioned Simeone.}

Well, we seem to be in a really strange position right now, It seems the 3 man CB formation has been well and truely worked out after we were pretty much forced to use it to get the best out of a bad job due to the abysmal start to the season we had,
We have two of our best players NOT signing new deals rightly or wrongly depending on your views,
We have a rumour of the why always me non scoring striker being passed fit but not wanting to travel due to a sore knee,
We have the manager spouting to the press again all sorts of things that would be better kept quiet, especially when it comes to transfers and contracts etc,
We have midfield players up front when we have a trio of the managers signings on the bench, if they are lucky to even get that,
We were abysmal in Europe in all its forms,
And to be honest there aren't many games this season even in the good run we had where we actually looked a good cohesive unit, not to mention the regular square pegs in round holes team selections etc etc
So what do we do? Me personally I think we're ready for a change, the manager has had 3 years and a boat load of money, whether we want to blame a transfer committee or the manager is irrelevant we can't deny that the vast majority of transfers have been nothing short of a disaster, to be honest we've spent a lot of money on players who either havnt had a chance or have been shipped out on loan before they've had a chance, now I don't know if that's down to bad scouting or bad coaching but the fact remains that even though lots of people complained about Kenny being out of date the man still had the nous to guide us to two cup finals one of which we won and in the 3 years since he's gone we really don't seem to be any better off than we were then,
My next question being who in dolly partons name would we bring in?? I don't see many experienced managers wanting the job, certainly not ones with a good solid CV with a good European record, not apart from Rafa anyway and as much as he loves the club and personally I wouldn't mind him would he really be a fans choice let alone a choice of the board?
Do we really need another unproven manager who can't attract top names? I don't know if that's the route either
So i don't really know what the ultimate answer is and i'm not sure anyone else does either but what I do know is something has to give one way or another as if we're not careful we run the risk of dropping behind yet again and spending a few years desperately trying to claw our way back to the top four table.

We didn't build properly on last season, we bought ok but none of our signings put fear into the opposition, nothing noticeable it was a perfect chance to push for someone like Benzema or Martinez, and a top drawer midfielder like Vidal( just an example don't shoot me) apart from an top right back we bought ok in defence Lovren has struggled but it's down to coaching for me, the sad thing is we all know back 3 is problem but it won't change to a 4 for the rest of the season because of Mr stubborn, it just shows naivety and failure to adapt, it's a similar problem at man city, successful last season and didn't improve wisely enough and now they are really struggling, we've got more chance catching them than united at the moment, and if we don't get top 4 which is likely we are going to really struggle without that CL carrot to dangle in front of potential signings.

I suppose there are worse, but I also think there are better. I'd rather take a punt on Paul Clement or Roger Schmidt or Murat Yakin who Ed002 mentioned the other day.

When we hired Rodgers he had less experience than Garry Monk does now in the PL and wasn't exactly a household name. I suspect there are literally dozens of managers out there who might be a good fit for us most of whom I've probably never heard of.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 21:06:43
This pressing game. seems Man U and Arsenal out pressed us? Is this the end of our charge of the light brigade? Swansea, Southampton, Arsenal and Mancs etc all a play similar game now, so has our formula been susssed out just like Barca's tika taka football. Just like any strategy, opponents adapt, to the opponent, 3 at back has been countermanded, as has our first half blitzkreig strategy of last season were all energy was put into an intense assault in the first half an hour to get the advantage. Rogers bragged about using a diamond and different shapes and told our opponents our players strengths. Now we look out fought, out thought and devoid of any alternatives. You cannot win a war when your top general gives away your strategies and then runs out of remedies when the enemy adapts.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

07 Apr 2015 04:59:03
Rodgers abandoned the blitzkrieg strategy this season - we have yet to press with intensity and as a team in any game this season - if we were too do that you might see an upswing in form. Rodgers (and the club) also bought badly meaning the new personnel were inadequate replacements for our previous personnel (the saga that is balotelli/suarez). Most telling is probably that our defence has shown no improvement, perhaps it has even declined, in the 3 seasons Rodgers has been here - it is unfathomable that it has still yet to be rectified after 3 seasons: this is were I think Rodgers has shown just how ill equipped he is for the very top - no manager worth his salt would allow such an obvious problem to endure for 3 seasons.

I am disappointed in my team on and off the field. At times it is embarrassing the stuff that gets leaked out, but I believe FSG are good businessmen and will do what is necessary to make the club successful. So let's keep the faith people even though this year stings like a mother!

Difficult times in many ways for our manager.

Performances aside, there appears to be a number of issues.

Two players are holding out on contracts and probably will end up moving. The teams above us would love two English internationals tobadgere to regulations.

The Italian continues to be a problem, but unfortunately enough isn't one on the pitch.

He's lost his true fundamental core of scousers now as I get the impression Gerrard has resigned himself to an early retirement, with much of it not being at his control.

All this aside, the players (with many being young and inexperienced) see things happening. They see their Captain leaving only to be replaced with a Captain who isn't prepared to sign yet, or who the club don't believe is worth his wage. They see a disruptive Italian picking-up great wages and playing sick every week. They see the uproar with the Sterling contract. They see squabbling with the manager and fans and supporters alike, while feeling the pressure of an underperformed team.

Big big test, and only the manager will truly understand who's to blame.

Hope you pull through Brendan, but by the look of things you may be losing the dressing room

IMO Sterling is waiting till the summer to see what FSG's plan is and I reckon Henderson too. Both these players without a doubt will have other offers on the table. What guarantees do they have next season with Rodgers in charge?

Our manager has just said that top 4 is over and now also come out and said without CL we are going to struggle in the transfer market? Is the guy delusional? Even with CL football on offer at the start of the season we still could not attract proven quality players? Then we screw things up too when we have a chance of signing Remy but then instead go for Balotelli? Our loss is Chelsea's gain. It is sickening.

We need someone at the top with pedigree and experience otherwise we will be going through season after season of transition. It is as simple as that.

Just back from taking my boys club to take part in The Blackpool Cup over the Easter Weekend and didn't get chance to watch the game but from what I was told we weren't at the races and the disappointment is tangible.

This will be felt all across the board by fans, manager, players and FSG who, with the financial commitment made on the park and off it with stadium expansion must have hoped for better by this stage.

From watching week in week out I feel we are not far away from becoming a contender again but will need to cut the deadwood out ASAP, pad out the squad with the undoubted talent from the Academy and bring in a couple of experienced proven top class players to make that jump.

BIG question is the manager and while I've never been convinced by Brendan, or BRENTan as my Man U pal calls him after David Brent, a wrong appointment could set us further back than we are now.

Unless a proven winner, who commands respect and can attract the quality we need is recruited, it may be the lesser of 2 evils to give him another season before diving in with another gamble.

Naturally I'd love to see Simeone, Klopp etc in the summer but unless we can down either of them with Rohypnol sadly it's highly unlikely.

Like the Pepsi Max at the Pleasure Beach, being a Liverpool fan is full of ups and downs but I have complete belief we will get there.

So 4th now looks a distant fantasy. Got to thinking about our remaining games and if we play them at the same standard we played our last two, then realistically we are looking at finishing 6th or even 7th and crashing out of the FA Cup for good measure. It's almost certain that FSG are not going to throw money at the club as they have done over the last few years so I am beginning to think we are stuck with Rodgers because no big name replacement will come unless they have a healthy transfer budget - why in earth should they.

Just a change of topic from the moaning. I brought my girl to Milan for the week. Top bf I know. However, I bought tickets to watch inter vs Parma on Saturday. Things I realised, smoking and drinking is allowed in the stands strangely, as well as some sort of fire in the inter stand aha. Shaqiri? No thank you, lack of movement, goes hiding and doesn't really do anything when on the ball. Medel on the other hand, seems to make his own space, he demands the ball and gets it, always moving it forward. when not in possession he seemed to read the game well and when Parma broke on the counter, he was there to break it up snapping at heels. Is he on loan ed? Or permanently at inter ? Wonder if he could be tempted away from a half filled San siro booing their team for anfield? Any interest ? I think one of the main problems we seem to have in the side is the significant number of attacking midfielders but lack of top quality strikers, defensive midfielders and full backs.

For example Coutinho, Sterling and Llalana are all arguable best positions as CAM's and all arguably international standard, plus Markovic and Ibe coming through.

By contrast in defensive midfielders we have Lucas (good but not the most mobile), Can (still learning) and Allen (not up to scratch), none of whom would make it into Chelsea, Man City or Man Utd in my view.

In fullbacks it's even worse. Moreno has talent but makes defensive errors, Manquillo has some way to go and don't even mention GJ or Enrique. We're desperate for Flanagan to come back and he wouldn't make many international sides either.

Likewise in terms of strikers, we only have Sturridge.

I think those are the absolute priorities for the summer in my view.forget yet another attacking midfielder purchase, we're desperate for
1) a genuine top class striker (Sell Borini/Lambert/Balo for Vietto?)
2) a top defensive/allrounder midfielder (Sell Allen, lose Gerard, buy Schneiderlin/Milner?)
3) at least one top class fullback, preferably versatile enough to play either side (lose GJ, Enrique, buy Montoya?).

Bit harsh on lucas, would take him over fernandinho and as a DM would take him over carrick. Still think henderson would make any team but chelsea, but when we don't have both our midfield fails badly.

Hi Ed's great site and appreciate all your hard work. What are your thoughts on the increasing stories surrounding contracts at Liverpool. First Sterling and Gerrard say they would have signed last year(less concerned about Sterling saying that as we are unlikely to offer him one with three years left anyway) and now Henderson apparently rejecting £80k a week. Bit of a disgrace that its been left for him to get to this stage. Also stories of dressing room unrest and Rodger accusing players of not playing for him? A bit hasty to say that he is losing/already lost the dressing room but certainly adds weight to suggestion s on this site that he may not last the summer!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Sterling has two years left and it is what it is. The issue I have explained as far as I know. Gerrard's time has come - so it is time to move on anyway. Henderson's situation is different and not something I am willing to discuss at this time.}

We have generally bought poorly although I think Can and particularly Sakho are decent. Players are been alienated or being played out of position.
This could also be the reason for our poor discipline recently.
On top of that we have the problem with Sterling whom I think we should sell if we can get some silly price for him and no doubt Henderson is holding out now because of that £100k a week offer when he has been offered £80K
It looks like things are unravelling now and I can see Brendan given his marching orders. We will then see a number of players offloaded with the new manager setting out his stall and likely another transition year.
I think Henderson will stay and maybe Sterling if we get the right man but he needs to take a long hard look at himself and review his agent. No player is bigger than any club but with no champions league next season our options for attracting players will be limited.

Two bad results and Rodgers slaters back out of the woodwork. In my opinion we have about the 5th best squad in the league so we are about right realistically. We haven't been able to get the players in Rodgers wanted which would have enabled us to compete with those above. Sanchez, Costa, willian etc. I don't blame the manager for that more the fact we can't compete wages wise. I still see the future as bright but we are dependent on keeping the talented young players we have. This season isn't done yet so let's get behind everyone including the manager and keep fighting.

Believable3 Unbelievable16

06 Apr 2015 11:00:48

06 Apr 2015 11:18:27
I tend to agree our squad can't match Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd or Arsenal, however most of those have also played some rubbish football this year and Liverpool should be in a better position than we are now, we have some of the best young players in the league and we've been badly outplayed against the top sides a few times now (with the exception of City of course).

My biggest frustration is Rogers insistence on playing some very odd combinations and the rubbish that comes out of his mouth sometimes. There have been many points this year when it's clear it's not working and he's insisted on playing some of the weaker players over and over (Allen, Balo, Lovren), and people out of position (Sterling and Hendo at RWB).

I think we have the bones of an amazing young side that can grow to be great, but we need to have Rogers set a direction and I'm starting to worry he doesn't have it.

Agree2 Disagree3

06 Apr 2015 11:26:46
It's not 2 bad games, it's that we're now relying on Man U to end the season extremely poorly to get to the top 4, which is the minimum for me to even consider that a Liverpool manager in his third year at the club should stay.

The seeds for that were sown at the start of the season, with a combination of poor tactics, poor team selections, a couple of signings that may ultimately come good but weren't what we really needed at the time, and one signing in a key area who has a been a complete disaster.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 13:14:38
Think our squad is much better then given credit for but regardless of that:

We spent a fortune this summer and since rodgers signed so if we have a poor squad then he has wasted a fortune.

Added to that if everyone has better squads, they couldn't have done more to give us a chance to get fourth and we have played just as poorly.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 20:06:58
We did lose our best player last season, aswell as that our best remaining finisher has not been fit all season. If you look at net spend we have spent nothing in comparison to the clubs above us. All i'm saying is if we lose out on our top targets to our competitors who pay more in wages and spend more in fees then It would be difficult for any manager to compete. The teams that attract the best players will always have the best chance. We have struggled to get in the ones the manager wanted and have had to buy young talent rather than ready made finished articles. With that strategy we going to have to give the players more time. The teams above us managed to attact Sanchez, Di Maria, Costa, Fabregas etc to add to the Hazards Silva toure's Rooneys etc of this world.
It isn't easy for me to admit it but we can't compete in the Market for whatever reason and i know how Pissed off Rodgers is aw we constantly lose out on targets to other clubs.

To me its a man who has always had more self confidence than ability struggling to understand what's happening, at the start of the season he was banging on about himself being a manager in Spain at some point because he honestly believed almost winning the title last season was down to him and his ability more than any other single factor.
He was delusional long before he got the Liverpool job but getting a job that was always way out of his league only served to feed that misplaced self confidence.
When he's sacked he will deffinately struggle to understand the owners decision not through arrogance but through total ignorance of what really happened

Agree1 Disagree3

06 Apr 2015 16:28:49
Not sure why everything has to be so black or white, Begball. Reality is a shade of grey really- Rodgers has done some good things and some bad things, but ultimately he's responsible for the results however they go as he himself has admitted. It's the same with any high level managerial position, you have to take the good with the bad even if the bad wasn't directly your fault. It's not like a CEO is directly responsible for revenue (they are not in sales, marketing, or engineering), but if revenue is below expectations they will get the sack along with a nice golden parachute. Rodgers is in somewhat of a similar position.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 18:09:13
That's a very fair question Begball.
I think Brendan has been enormously lucky manager who has rode on the coat tails of others to heights way beyond his own capabilities, Moriniho Martinez and Suarez to be precise.
Its because of mourinho he got the Watford and reading jobs then at Swansea he was in the right place at the right time and then last season after a very hit and miss first season suddenly found himself with a player at the very hight of his game in the unplayable Suarez a player who much like Sanchez for us led by fantastic example that others raised thier game around.
This season his 3rd year in charge was always going to be the real test of Brendan Rodger's ability as it was his team his players his tactics but without Saurez and he's been found out big style both on the pitch and on TV radio and anywhere else with a microphone pointing at him.

I would take falcoa on loan. He will get back to his very best next season. United messed him about this season and never gave him a proper run of games and a decent team to play in. We are losing various players this summer including Johnson and Gerrard who are the club's highest earners. Falcoa is on huge wages at united over 250k a week. If we could get him on 200k a week if he would be a great signing as he's a worldclass striker.
Unrealistic but he will get his best form back next season wherever he's at.

Believable10 Unbelievable13

06 Apr 2015 10:20:25
Agree with u about Falcao. If he reduces his wage demands to less than 200k a week and the loan fee is affordable, then i think the club should take a punt on him. I think he is struggling at Utd because of lack of service and Van Gaal's lack of faith in him. He will have had a full season to recover from his ACL injury and a good pre season would do him wonders. None of the big clubs will go for him this summer so why not? He is a marquee signing and would be a statement of intent on the club's part than settle for Ings who is no better than what we have right now. i'm sure Origi and Sturridge would love to play upfront with Falcao as they could learn so much from him considering he is the most lethal striker on the planet when on form.

I don't know if Collymore is right or wrong and if this is based on talking to the owners or his own views. But I would advice in general for people here to be careful and not assume that if majority of people here in this banter site have reached a conclusion about something related to the team (e.g. that BR will go, that a DOF will be appointed, that DeBoer is a candidate if BR goes and he wants the job etc), this has anything to do with the real world.

I think you will find very few pundits out there that think BR should go or that he did a bad job (true that pundits rarely advocate sacking of a manager). Most of these pundits predicted before the season that LFC would not finish in the top 4 after Suarez gone and will argue now that despite a poor start BR did a good job.

People here may beg to differ and argue that as fans we have better understanding of the team who we watch every game for years and higher expectations etc, which is all fair enough but it is very likely that the owners think more like (or listen to) the more objective pundits (plus they have financial issues to consider when sacking a manager, they may appreciate stability and continuity more than most fans etc). I personally will not be surprised at all if BR will be here next season.

Jeeeez!!!

I have to put a post up.

Benitez?? Really??

Have we learned NOTHING about going back to previous managers??

Do you not remember the DIRE defensive, unattractive football we played when he was here last time???

Get your head out your holes!!

We have been throwing good money after bad when we are sitting on top of a multitude of talent in the academy.

We NEED to release ALL the players that are not up to performing (or do not want to perform)

We DESPERATELY NEED 2 QUALITY (or as good as our place in European football will allow us) strikers.

We MAY EVEN have to consider the prospect of replacing Studge (we cannot keep relying on a player who spends this amount of time out of action)

And a back up goal keeper to push Migs (our best player since he returned back into the side)

ALL other places are covered and could be drafted in from our youth.

AS for Rogers'. That's for the owners to decide. A DOF looks more and more likely. So there will be lots of haggling going on there. For me, if he's to go, get rid NOW so the new manager can get used to what we have here at the club both in first team players and what we have in the academy and hit the ground running next season.

Rid the club of the transfer committee. It just DOES NOT WORK!!

I think Migs shop stopping has been excellent. that being said his distribution is so poor it puts enormous pressure on the team; back passes going into touch, long kicks being won by the opposition who use it to attack us, etc.

I'd rather a different keeper if we are going to play with our current style, IMO he is not suited.

I wouldn't disagree about ex managers; I loved his time at the club but even if he (Benitez) was a contender it's not like he's done much since apart from 1/2 season for Chelsea.

My POINT was actually IF Roger's is on his way OUT let's do it sooner rather than later. Then the new guy (whoever it is) will have time to access the squad, who's to go and who's to stay (from starters to squad all the way down the academy) and he can target WHERE he needs to strengthen if there is no one available.

I am sorry but our defence positioning has been terrible since Steve Clarke left and it's all about our manager asking them to pass it out from the back, so they are shifting about to make themselves available for a pass and if the play breaks down they are having to shift again to get back into position. We were found out early season when teams pressed Gerrard, Now teams press Can and Sakho and mark Coutinho out of the game.

I saw Red BBQ posted a list with players he thought we could have bought in over the summer instead of those we did.

It made me thinking. What if we hadn't bought in anybody at all and his list looked like this

Lallana would be Jordan Ibe
Balotelli would be Jerome Sinclair
Markovic would be Sheyi Ojo
Can would be Jordan Rossiter or Jordan Williams
Lovren would be Andre Wisdom or Thiago Ilori
Moreno would be Brad Smith
Manquillo would be Conor Randall or Ryan McLaughlin

What if the list had looked like this?

It would certainly have saved us some money to a proper striker and proper keeper wich in reality was all we needed and neither where bought.

The amazing and terrible thing for me is that i don't really see that we would have done that much worse with those players. And all are in the club already.

What do people think? If we had added those players to the squad instead of buying anybody - what would have been?

I know it is a hypothetical question and things can be undone. unfortunately.

I am not slating the quality of the players bought in though, i need to make that clear! I consider Lallana, Lovren, Can, Markovic to be very good players or potentialy very good players.

Interested to hear any thoughts

Believable6 Unbelievable3

06 Apr 2015 07:48:40
We needed some players, we just bought too many, and some of the younger ones wouldn't be ready. Can was the right choice, and arguably so was lovren, he just couldn't replicate his form. Ibes loan did him good, but could have stayed in the squad. If we knew we would change to a back three, maybe ilori or wisdom may have stayed but it was a backup plan. If we didn't get say balotelli markovic and maybe lallana (although I really like lallana) and got one top striker, maybe that would be enough, although you could argue then our squad, may be thin up top with the standard sturridge injuries.

I honestly feel most of our signings need a proper run in the team, in the position they impressed at their previous clubs, before judging them. Manager has failed to get the best from them. What makes you think the Academy lads would be played regularly in their best positions? I don't get why some fans think Brendan should get more time to spend more money, when the same bloke gives his players less than a season to impress. Terry Mac and Ian Rush didn't hit the ground running, but Sir Bob knew how to get the best out of them and it wasn't by sending them on loan for a season then selling them.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 09:55:21
we could have had willian, mkhitriyan , remy , bony, konoplyanka salah, sanchez( yea there was london factor in his move, but i think we never quite showed the hunger to have him , i don't think we as a club were desperate enough to sign him. we didn't involve ourselves in a bidding war either) we went on to show in these transfers that liverpool won't budge on prices and won't be held on ransom by selling clubs which well i dunno was right or wrong

and then we got allen, lallana, markovic, balotelli, lambert, borini aspas, alberto, assaidi for near about 100 million pounds

now i understand these players weren't bought inplace of above players but still there's a huge gap in quality among the players we targeted and players we eventually bought and we didn't buy them for cheap either.

Sorry even as a United fan, I have to ask, what exactly has he shown that warrants him having another season?

Failure? yes a lot of that.

Stubborness to change and adapt a team when he was figured out again.

Poor transfers? yes quite a few of them.

Got u know where near getting out of a cl group u should finished comfortable 2nd in.

Sorry mate Rodgers talks the talk but can't walk the walk.

would Chelsea , Manchester united or city hold on to a manager who fails to deliver on promises he made? or who has not won a single piece of silverware in 3 years? we would be in a ever building process with rodgers, three years and we are still building and spending way over the odds. i think the management is very right if they loose their patience with rodgers and sack him.

I find it funny myself mate to be honest. Everyone is panicking for nothing. So what, we probably won't get CL this year, but let's be honest we're not that far behind the top 4 teams, all we are missing is that little bit of quality to take us that next level.

Damn United lavers and there luck hey, 2 losses in about 20 odd games in the league.

This is something we will have to put up with I guess, when Liverpool fail the league is poor, when they lose a cup it's a Mickey mouse trophy.

But when they are up there, the league is as good and competitive as it's been in years, when they win a trophy it's a huge achievement.

I wouldn't say that at all Chris , the league has been just as poor this season as it was last season.

I'm pretty sure you lot are just as bad when it comes to calling cups mickey mouse cups.

You see the Liverpool fans you are calling
Sound very familiar to you lot.

Ed1 a question.
I have no idea how this stuff works but can i ask what makes these big billionaire owners like city's Chelsea's Monaco's & psg want to buy these clubs? Doesn't it seem better to invest in teams such as Liverpool who were a much bigger world brand? We're the most successful team based on trophies won in England since to early 80s just seems odd to me that teams like city & monoco would be thought of before Liverpool.

{Ed001's Note - potential and price are the main issues. Being based in Liverpool is a disadvantage as well, compared to Monaco and London, for instance. Citeh had a brand new stadium, while we needed a stadium, so that makes a difference. There are so many things it is impossible to give a brief overview as each case is unique.}

Plus some are under 45 so don't really remember all that history that far back :p

Sorry couldn't resist mate, like they say, if u give me a open goal, I'll over hit the pass for a tap in. Oh no wait :)

Ok thanks!
Any chance of pool being the next rich team in world football?

{Ed001's Note - it wouldn't make any difference who owns us while FFP is in place. My worry is any new owner looking to make a profit ala Mike Ashley, rather than try and win trophies.}
