I never knew that Calvin McKenzie repudiated the sun's apology in 2006. What a callous b* * rd- everyone in the town of Liverpool and every football fan (not just LFC) should despise him for the heartless piece if s* t he truly is, and boycott anything that he ever does or touches.

05 Sep 2010 23:12:34
I still can't get it why LFC never bought Adam Johnson. . he cost peanuts. .
Jovanovich can run with the ball - but what worries me is how easy Richards bullied him into submission in the City game. I think we need 2 (or at least 1) out-and-out wingers with Gerrard playing Alonso role like in the opening game against Arseanal. Maybe Jovanovich will improve - he looked impressive for Serbia. BUT KUYT IS NOT A WINGER. He's a box poacher and should be back up for Torres.

Yer we need to get behind what we have got now and try to push them to the next level. A couple of results and a bit of confidence can do wonders for players. I'm not a massuve fan of Lucas but his goal v Benfica and his first for the club were pretty handy. If he is allowed to show a bit more as a few more could do such as Babel (we all know the talent the lad has) and we could be through some tough fixtures with points on the board.

Good evening,

Just a quick note to thank all Liverpool fans for their patience during the the last few months while we have sifted through the various bids. As mentioned from the start, this process was never going to be played out publicly to avoid distortion by the media, but we are now pleased to anounce that a preffered bidder has been chosen by the board.

Details will be anounced very soon via a press conference and a member of the consortium will be in attendance to answer questions directly.

It has been a tough few months for us with the pressure of making the right decision weighing heavily on our shoulders. But we feel we have made the right decision by selecting a candidate who will move the club forward both on and off the pitch.

Thank you and don't foget, YNWA. .

Peter Gilchrist

This post sounds like a club statement!

My daughter worked on carra, s charity night testimonial last night and micheal owen was there but had to leave after 30mins with security threw the back entrance of the echo arena, he was getting loads of stick, no rumor it happend, btw jeremy kyle was there as well and lets say he was acting like a big time charlie.

I was there last night and did not see Michael Owen at all. I was sat at a table overlooking Jeremy Kyle and to say he was acting like big time Charlie is nonsense. All the celebs were down to earth throughout. Great night by the way.

"{ed's note - Bascombe has no inside knowledge of the takeover whatsoever.}"

Yep. 100% coreect. No-one does outside of literally half-a-dozen people know anything at all and they in turn do not discuss it in club premises and do not keep the paperwork on club premises either. Even senior players and Roy Hodgson himself know very little. Negotiations take place in hotels in the midlands, London and even Europe and the reservations are handled by an outside firm of solicitors so that no-one at the club even knows a meeting is taking place. Purslow for example will knock-off at 5pm one night and not come in the following day and that will be the first time anyone at the club knows a meeting has happened. They won't know who with, where or anything else. It is tight. And I mean tight. There is so much at stake that it is kept well underwraps so that the press can't get a scent and turn it in to a pantomime.

For instance, who exactly has put in a solid bid for the club? And for how much? No one knows. What you see in the press is pure guess work journalism.

I keep hearing FACT this and FACT that. The reality is Liverpool have no substantial bids on the table. Chris Bascombe NOTW has inside knowledge of LFC dating back to his connections whilst working with the Liverpool Echo. The information about RBS has been leaked and is now been put out to us fans. May sound great but no finance will be available for new players we will be stuck. {ed's note - Bascombe has no inside knowledge of the takeover whatsoever.}

Don't forget that the NOTW is the S*N's sister paper so anything you read from that you can take with a pinch of salt.

And how many times does ED have to tell people that Owen/ Rat wanted out of LFC?

Rafa wanted to keep him and Owen/ Rat wanted out simple!

To the person who said "The takeover is done and all the paperwork ready to be signed in 3 days i cannot tell u who they are but the owners are more than 3 and they don't have the same nationality":
When is it going to come out? Should we expect imminent Purslow or Broughton's briefing? Or maybe you are just in the business of giving people false hopes?

Everyone i can guarantee the takeover is very very close, i do not know who, but you have my word this is not idle gossip. I have a source within the club who told me it is very close. (will not say who). I am not one of these people who will write a load of s* te to try and impress. The reason i have told all my fellow redmen is to put their minds at rest. Maybe the editor can verify that for me. 100% fact. Macca

Looks like we now have to wait until October 6th at the earliest concerning a Liverpool takeover. This is when the 'big boys' will come out of the shadows and state their interest in taking over the club (as they will get the club very much cheaper and free up money to get the New Anfield stated).
But i think we should all wait and see the London based media and press really go right over the top concerning the apparent collapse of the club etc. Remember the reaction of Sky Sports News Presenter Jim White when Kenny Huang dropped his 'bid' to take control of the club. Really embarrasing!

{Editor's Note: There has been no collapse, apparent or otherwise, of the club. Additionally, nothing magical will happen on October 6 to reduce the price of the club.}

Yes i agree Editor, I was only talking about how Sky Sports and the Press will 'over egg' the situation at Liverpool on October 6th 'because it is Liverpool' like they always do.

Looking at the bench yesterday, I was wondering who I would prefer to be Liverpool manager, Houllier or Hodgson.
For all Houllier's French charm and pleasantness yesterday and his clear love for Liverpool, I would rather go for Hodgson's more attacking football that is when compared to Houllier's quite defensive and also quite direct long ball/ long throw ins style of football.
I realise we won quite a few cups (the cup treble) but look back at your old DVDs and see how poor some of the football was (obviouly many good times as well with Fowler and Owen) when compared with much of the Benitez era (good passing and technical quality).
Everybody should read the Fowler autobiography where apparently Houllier tried to show Fowler how to kick a football! Also remember Cheyrou (the new Zidane!), Biscan, Ferri, Traore, Camara an others.

Michael owen wasnt signed back because he turned rafa down twice 1st was wen he went to madrid then wen he signed for newcastle carragher asked if he was coming back and he said newcasle offered hi 50 grand a week more . carras reply was wots 50 grand to you , you don't need the money.so before he signed for the s* te he was on the fone to carra and stevie begging to come back .they asked rafa and he said said no twice he won't get a third chance.

Hi all i was at the echo arens last night for carraghers gala black tie bash for his testimonial.i don't claim to know any footballers or know anybody who does but what i heard was easing to the ears.the talk of the bash was liverpools imminent takeover.there was a good mood about the place and after the meal people mingled.i felt abit out of place because there were celebs and footballers past and present flooding the arena and i was only there as i won a pair of tickets in a raffle.apparently the takeover is done but cannot go thru yet because the new owner will not be publicly announced untill after the bank of scoltland take control.h+g canot afford the payment and have resigned to the fact that they will walk away with virtually no profit if any at all.that is why torres and gerrard stayed because they are aware of whats going on . liverpool also turned down bids for the pair on deadline day.i was having a little chat with a past player who made a cameo appearance yesterday and he personally confirmed what people were saying.

Sorry Ed, hate to disagree with you. The reason Benitez did not sign Owen, was that Liverpool wanted him to be patient to try and drive the price down with Real Madrid. Owen was nervous because he was so desperate to return to the uk, he could not gamble on waiting for Liverpool so he went to Newcastle. That is the reason Rafa did not sign him when he was available on a free.

Liverpool Rumours
I been reading some of the things written about micheal owen and im with the ed on this one owen is only intrested in one thing is micheal owen he forced his way out of liverpool because he said he wanted to win things and as he heard real were intrested he he forced our hand into getin his transfer by running down his contract! And then after sitting on the bench for real madrid and watcin us win the european cup guess who wanted to return to anfield, benitez wanted him but the price wanted by madrid was to much but instead of holding tight and waiting for a offer from lfc he signed for newcastle because they offerd him big wages now that for me is why i dislike mr micheal owen not because he signed for man utd that does not bother me , He will never be held in the same league as fowler because fowler did not want to leave he was SOLD and wanted to return to the club which he loved {ed's note - to be fair he practically begged to come back to Liverpool, he joined Newcastle because Rafa said no thanks. He was too stubborn to ever take Owen back, I think he was right as well, we would never have got Torres if Owen had returned and Torres is twice the player Owen ever was.}

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

I have to say though that Owen did look 'right' in the all red strip yesterday. Anybody agree?
Just a pity the lack of positive comments by Owen towards Liverpool in the past 6 years. This is the main thing that has let him down for me.

ha the spice boys had well gone under the houlier regime never mind the benitez regime, THIS WAS ROY EVANS TEAM 96/ 97 SEASON They was called the spice boys because of there patrying and there modelling the players involved were james, redknapp, mcateer, collymore, babb and mcmanaman/ fowler 2 a extent but never murphy and owen the spice boy tag had disepeared while those were first team regulars in the 97/ 98 season

WAS IT NOT STAN COLLYMORE WHO FIRST USED THE 'SPICE BOY' TAG IN HIS CRITICSM OF THE ANTICS OF PLAYERS AT LIVERPOOL WHEN HE LEFT FOR ASTON VILLA AFTER 2 FRUSTRATING YEARS IN MAY OF 1997? NOT SURE?

How many liverpool fans are there in the uk would it not be good for the fans to buy liverpool football club and save us from another load of lies told by owners for example 1 million fans put in £1,000 each and then £52 each in another account for transfers in january sounds simple and doable to me what do you think ed {ed's note - I think those share Liverpool type schemes are a good idea, but not every fan can afford £1,000. I think releasing a 100 times as many shares at £10 each would sell you lots more than 100 times as many. Those with the money could buy lots of shares, those without could buy just one or two.}

05 Sep 2010 12:34:35
I'd love Luis Garcia and Finnan. Alonso and Garcia were 2 quality buys. They are the type of signings we need. How is it we pulled them out but struggle to see these players now? There must be players that can fit into Liverpool without paying top end money. Even Benayoun was decent.

Ed, I read a good article on the South African LFC fans website, saying if RBS take over in October, LFC won't lose ten points, because the debt is owed by Kop Holdings and not LFC itself. It all sounds like the usual shenanigans from financial types, but what do you make of it? Losing ten points would ruin the season for sure and make the task of getting back into the top four that much harder (as we could then lose Torres and Gerrard by next season, regardless of owners).
But is there a worse scenario? I read that H+G were also desperately looking to refinance the RBS debt, but Hicks seems to be in too much trouble to scrape up more big loans.
They must both know that with the debt and new stadium costs, the club is now barely sellable even at its cost price, let alone with any kind of profit, yet they seem desperate to keep their claws hanging in to the carcass. They seem quite happy to drag out the whole drama, no matter how deeply it damages the club that they supposedly care about, in the slim hope of making a few million- or just from sheer bloody mindedness, who knows?
The site also said H+G had tried to refinance the debt using LFC club assets a couple of months back but had been blocked by Broughton, Purslow and Ayres- if that's true it means those three arent just stooges as I sometimes wondered, and it does give cause for hope.
Its crazy that two greedy gamblers who were able to borrow a few hundred million quid could have such a degree of control over a global footballing institution that has about 150 million fans worldwide.

05 Sep 2010 10:28:28
LIVERPOOL will avoid a nine-point penalty if they fall under bank ownership next month.
The Premier League will approve an Anfield takeover by the Royal Bank of Scotland if co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillet don't find a buyer or repay their debt by October 6. The RBS has had power to seize the club before but there were concerns about league sanctions. Fans feared that if the Americans defaulted on their loans the club would be plunged into administration, leading to a nine-point deduction. It looks therefore unlikely that there are any serious bids for the club on the boardroom table at this moment in time.
It seems that most potential investors are in fact biding their time until the club is absorbed by RBS and only then will they make an offer substancialy less than the £600 to £800 million that Hicks is looking for.
Indeed, if RBS do takeover Liverpool FC, the dreaded Yanks will end up with nothing, something we should all rejoice in.
lets hope this happens so dumb & dumber get fu$k all

05 Sep 2010 10:26:24
RBS are not fit to run a bank never mind a football club, do not forget the mess they helped get this country in during the recession. . They are global criminals who invest in nuclear arms, animal testing etc and are not fit and proper to run our club. Only a fool would hope for them to be in charge, you better pray were sold before the real scum bags takeover.

05 Sep 2010 10:25:52
The process of dd has been completed by at least three parties concerning the club, but the sorry part is that IF the banks take the club off our owners and then sell at a realistic price then that's when the pr opportunists of the world (the fakes like kenny huang)will sadly be popping back into the frame.

Initially this was a concern of mine, but by all accounts the people who are working behind the scenes and the likes of broughton have a spoken agreement.

Basically amanda staveley(pcp)
Keith Harris
And someone else who is apparently representing the abu dhabi interest.
Along with barcap and rbs with broughton have agreed that come the deadline (6th October) rather than have the silly fiasco that has dragged through the press recently that they will only deal with the real bidders.
So basically:
Abu dhabi
Shirk Mohammed
And some American ?

The other "big" bidders like ambani etc will have a weeks notice prior to the deadline date to confirm their intentions and how serious they are, but what IS real is that huang and kirdi and anyone else who an opportunist will NOT be given the time of day FACT.

So when you hear stories again linking huang and kirdi etc ignore them, huang's people have achieved what they wanted in raising his profile and delaying the process etc and screwing us over by missing out on having new owners in place before the transfer window shut etc and so fair play to agent bamba etc for their efforts on delaying the sale by linking a media driven charlatan like huang with your bs. I'm sure the communist peoples party republic are proud of you.

For those slagging off round robben, i would just like to say that at the time of hillsborough, i was only 14 and not at the age when i started buying papers. if us young lads in south wales didn't read the original lies in the sun, we had to rely on word of mouth and much later the internet to realise the extent of the filth written. i live in cardiff so i can only imagine the impact it had on the families and the wider community, losing loved ones and the lies that followed. all my mates are liverpool fans, none of us have direct links to the city but still feel massive pride and emotion that you proper scousers will never forget the 96 and continue the fight for justice. i can understand your frustration at round robben, but hopefully that now he knows the truth, he will never buy that s* t again. thanks

Their seem to be alot of people complaining about squad depth, but we have several people who play in each position:

GK: Reina, Jones, Bouzanis, Gulasci, Hansen
RB: Johnson, Kelly, Darby
CB: Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, Wilson, Ayala
LB: Koncheskey, Aurelio, Robinson
RM: Kuyt, Maxi, Amoo
CM: Gerrard, Meireles, Poulsen, Lucas, Spearing, Shelvey, Palsson, Irwin
LM: Jovanovic, Ince
AM: Cole, Bruna
FW: Torres, Babel, Pacheco, N'Gog, Eccleston

+ alot of our players are very vesatile as these are other positions some can play:
Kelly (CB, LB)
Carragher (RB)
Agger (LB)
Wilson (LB)
Aurelio (LM)
Kuyt (FW)
Amoo (FW)
Gerrard (LM, AM)
Irwin (LM, RM, LB, RB)
Jovanovic (FW)
Cole (LM)
Bruna (LM, RM)
Babel (LM, RM)
Pacheco (AM)

so we have got pretty decent strength in depth

Im dissapointed that any liverpool fan would even consider looking at the scum newspaper yes roundrobben im talking about you ed if i was u i wouldn't allow him to write anything else on this website

Now that's now very nice! We are all entitled to voice our thoughts and write them on this great site. . but the day we insist on blocking someone because of their view is a very sad day. . .regardless of the view! I'm not sure of your reasons for wanting RR banning. .did you lose a loved one, a friend or just some one you knew that horrid day? if so then i'm sorry for your pain! I lost real mates that day. . . . yes I hated what was written and said about our club and our brilliant fans! Do I wish my mates hadn't died. . well deffo yes because they would have been on the Kop with me today for Carra's big game! but the reality is that the people who wrote that story and passed it for print are long gone! yes the paper printed it< yes it hurt a lot of people. . .yes it showed Liverpool, the people the fans everything to be awful. . . . what we need is Justice for the 96 not hatred for a paper that probably doesn't have a single person working for it today that did that horrid day!
They said sorry. .I don't know how genuine that sorry was. . .was it to sell more papers? was it a genuine lets try and put this to bed once and for all. . .I have no idea! But what I do know is my mates memories will never be forgotten! I don't need baggage like hating a newspaper for one senseless article. . .I don't read it or buy it but that is more to do with preferring to read the Guardian or the Independent! How many of us buy things or subscribe to services that have links to the S*n? How far will our convictions really take us?
Lets show a level of openness to someone else's views and thoughts and through normal debate come to understand who they think like that rather than just saying ban them or block them!
For info as well if your going to write on here and request to have someone banned at least show some class and put your name to the post!

Great post Kopite70 maybe Round Robben was just ignorant to the facts of what the S*N wrote but if you're an LFC fan how could you be?
