Keep it up Jordan!

Good evening Ed I would like you to post this on both Manchester United and Liverpool pages.

This is about the Munich Air Disaster and as I have seen some fans in real life and on the internet mock this, I would like to post something I have found which really sums this up.

Thankyou.

Two very separate tragedies an outcome just the same.
Lives lost and ruined forever, no victim at all to blame.
Be it lives taken away on a terrace or in the Munich snow.
Each club suffered terribly, so respect we ought to show.

Heroes a plenty, a goalkeeper and fans spring to mind.
Every death and casualty, an innocent person you’ll find.
Yet both tragedies could have been avoided, surely a fact.
An overnight stay rejected, an unfit terrace over packed.

Every person that died, they all shared a common love.
So respect will be shown for each other in Heaven above.
But here on Earth it’s a different matter for some I’d say.
Time now for a new era; don’t let the past stand in our way.

Two massive football clubs, a fierce rivalry second to none.
Long may that rivalry continue, no Kopite would want it gone.
But mocking any tragedy, from that there’s nothing to gain.
Both set of fans should respect each other’s loss the same.

-JakeW

Anyone who mocks either tragedy is subhuman and an oxygen thief.

Tears came to my eyes. Wonderfully written.
RedSox69

Cannot understand any humane person not being moved by these verses. The people who disagreed should be ashamed of calling themselves fans of football. They should go and find something else to do to occupy their narrow minded attitude.

Reina likely to leave in the summer - in any event we should aim to replace him anyway. Like many top foreign goalkeepers, especially those of latin origin i. e. South American, Spanish and also Italian, they have fab reflexes and are great on their line - they look good, but none of them can dominate their box, and they're all very weak at their near post - look how many goals Pepe has let in by not coming for crosses comfortably and the number of times he's been beaten at his near post - more times than we've won the league! Really we need either a homegrown keeper, or maybe German. I think we should buy Stockdale or Neuer, or both? Stockdale is this countries best prospect - ions better than Butland will ever be.
Red since '74

Buffon? casillas? cesar? didn't really think about this did you.

KUMBER

Neuer are you serious? Let's forget for a minute that he will likely be one of the best keepers in the world in the years coming and that so many teams with more pull than us would jump at the chance to sign him, he's at one of the best teams in the world and would never be interested in a move to us!

Dan. {Ed001's Note - maybe, but he is expected to leave Bayern in the summer.}

No chance with Neuer.

What ed! Neur's only been at Bayern a couple years why is he expected to leave and where do you expect him to go?
NotInTheKnow {Ed001's Note - I have no idea, sorry, just know they are looking to replace him.}

Outs:
Reina
Skrtel (depending on how the rest of his season is)
Downing
Carroll
Wilson
Pacheco
that should bring in around 30m
Ins:
Goalkeeper - Personally I think this is the one position where I don't want to see a young player just look at de gea Possible targets, Valdes, begovic, al-habsi, krul
CB clearly a place that needs strengthing someone like hummels would be good
DM/CM - need someone for cover similar role to lucas ould love to see someone like cabaye/tiote but that's a long shot
Personally I don't think we need another striker especially as assauidi looks like he deserves more playing time
J.

Eh? £30m

Reina £10m-£12m
Skrtel £15m-£18m
Downing £6m-£8m
Carroll £18m
Wilson, Pacheco couple of £m
Spearing £3m-£5m.

£54m if they all go for minimal.
I don't think Skrts will be sold anyway.

Piddy.

£30 million? There worth a bit more than that.

The Irish Rover

I hope i'm proved wrong
but I bet west ham won't buy carroll meaning hell go for even less downing wilson pacheco won't go 4 much skrtel and reina maybe 15-20m combined that's so maybe more like 35 just estimates i'm not saying this will happen don't have a source just posting an opinion

Does anyone think it would be worth getting behind Reina rather than trying to replace him constantly, he is one of best keepers we've had and ok he maybe hasn't reached his really high standards this season, I'm sure with support he could get it back for us. All the best keepers have had hard times. We seem to live in a 'you're fired'
culture rather than nurture the talent that is under our nose.

Andy The Red

Yes I do, but I'm also of the school of thought that says if he feels it's time for a change we should let him leave gracefully.

About time we gave Pee the loyalty he as given to us. When a goalie makes a mistake it results in a gal, when other players make a mistake they often get away with it. Reins is a fine goalie, with very few peers, so how about getting a grip and stop wishing him away all the time.

ND

I love it "the loyalty" of some of these footballers.
Give me 100k a week and I'll be loyal too.
Football is a business now, the romance has gone.

He has wanted to go before but we kept him because torres went but he is here at the moment so we need to support him but he will go now because he is on too much money from lfc for what he brings to the team but when he goes we should not hate him or when torres comes to anfield we should not hate him we should be like in days gone by when lfc fans were true reds and gave applause to our ex players. red mick tag ynwa

Really like the look of Jordan ibe, think he's going to be even better than sterling.

Agree 100% - He's stronger, just as quick and has a great shot on him with little backlift. In another year or so he should start making some appearance for the first team.

Had a nose on the Man United banter and they took the piss outa us for not scoring more than one goal. Let them at it, the signing of bebe always makes me chuckle!

Big Al

Not to mention Klebersen

Raoul

That game was in 2009 when I believe there was also a game in 2009 at old trafford where we didn't have a problem scoring goals!

Djemba-Djemba
Veron

Not to mention Anderson

And Juan Sebastian Veron didn't set the league on fire did he?

Puzzled

I really don't think we should be moaning at other clubs for bad signings.

They can only think of decent banter when it's handed to them on a plate big Al.
I was expecting this page to be flooded with banter but they are not quick enough.
It's a good job we are good at taking the piss out ourselves. Lol

MIKEY

Liverpools fans mocking other teams for poor signings. Oh the irony.

I'm really impressed with the resurgence Jordan Henderson, finally were starting to see the lads outstanding ability come through. I've always believed his poor past form was down to being low on confidence.

I'm very optimistic about our future under roders, that's twice this season we have played man cities super stars off the park and came away feeling gutted because off individual mistakes. We are certainly headed in the right direction, the squad is younger, the wage bill has been slashed considerably, players are coming through the academy, and in suso, coutinho, sterling, etc have some off the most exciting young talent in Europe.
However, for me we now need to take a close look at the goal keeper and defence. Johnson at either right back or left back has been superb this season, wisdom looks a real star of the future and with Kelly due to come back we are good in that position. Coates not good enough, srktel I think will leave, and Enrique is so frustrating at left back, way to casual at times! Robinson still maybe not ready yet. Carra is ageing, agger still our best natural centre half, and pepe James. I mean reina should be investigated for match fixing after what he did Sunday!
Reina and srktel will command good money in the summer, and enrique has proved a decent left winger so with that in mind I would like to see Forster from celtic, Williams from Swansea, and a left back to create a new back 5. And maybe 1/2 for cover or better still competition for first team places.
Henderson and downing are beginning to show there quality at last, though I think with continuo being brought in downings chances may be limited next season, so maybe sold to generate extra funds. I would love to see a midfield player in the mould of mousa sissoko, someone who is big and strong, who can tackle but pass as well, he looks a great buy for Newcastle.

Not a Liverpool rumour but more a question for Eds and all, goalkeeper situation looks like Reina is off in summer - a loyal and patient keeper by the way.
Prem experienced keepers that may be possible are maybe Vorm or Krul? Both are very good but due to age would cost! Begovic looks to have champions league options on the horizon.

Ahoy - Riddle me this?

Why would anyone bet on Liverpool scoring many goals with a team containing Insua, Benayoun & Reira - bewildered.

BOILED ONIONS

Benayoun was one of the only reasons why we was even challenging towards the end of 08/09 season. He was on fire.

BthekingB

Riera was starter in our runners up season. , Benayoun was an impact sub who also had some pretty memorable performances for the team. I'm also pretty sure we we're ranked 1st in europe around that time also. So. why wouldn't they bet?

Because insua was a cracking player first season, benayoun had magic feet and riera was decent for a while to?

Swampmonster

06 Feb 2013 07:56:00
all those three were outstanding in that season.
riera left foot. was superb.
benaayon was rafas magic sub ahead of babel.
he did that creativity of joe coles in chelsea.
inusa was pretty decent.
but we missed on auerlio as a player. if injury free. he is awesome.

Hi Eds/Macca

Not a transfer rumour but was just trying to find out if there has been any developments in regards to the stadium? I asked a couple of months ago and you have a very in depth answer. I just wondered if you ws still of the opinion we'll be staying at Anfield and if we are, do you think we will get some concrete information soon?

Keep up the good work

Gav {Ed001's Note - it has been announced mate, staying at Anfield.}

As far as I know there still negotiating with the council about the surrounding areas, they've been buying house's etc to make way for the expansion of the paddock and Anfield road. Looking to take the stadium up to around 60,000. {Ed001's Note - they were trying to get a compulsory purchase order, I believe.}

My oldest son ben is a gem of a footballer, bit bias. When he's having a bad game and he's not focused boy do I shout and it gets him rallying again. He turns into a wee monster on the pitch. If I didn't support him he'd let the match pass by him and keep the head down. Support carries players a mile further. Of you lads love Liverpool support the feckin team. Take your anger and frustrations out on yelling Mon Ye Boyyaaaa. Mon liverpooooooool!

Evening all just watched under 21's and have to say all the Liverpool lads on show were excellent in very poor conditions. Stand out performances from jonjo, wisdom, Robinson, ince, and above all hendo. I realise ince isn't back with us yet but having watched him compared to zaha I now which one I would prefer. All looked high in confidence and was great to watch.

Tomo10

Your right there Tom, think Hendo is showing so much more confidence now, and he is putting in lots more tackles, his game has improved so much.

Steven Gerrard, All 171 Goals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wK1tUVVxlYI

I can honestly say I cried watching this video. Once he's gone football will never be the same. I honestly love this guy, I am proud to say I've seen this guy play and believe me I am his BIGGEST fan. Tears are going to be shed when this guy retires, I hope that day is when he lifts the Premier League title. So many goals for a midfielder he's just undescribable.
Stevie's biggest fan,
DublinRed.

05 Feb 2013 22:26:51
Unreal - 50/60 of those goals are the types that pros only get 1/2 of in their entire career. Such a sweet striker of a football.

Unreal footballer. I still think a lot of us take him for granted. There will never be another like him.

just one word. legend.
i mean still haven't seen a better moment in ma life than hinm scoring at the 94th minute against olympiacos.
what a hit son. what a hit.
i would be at anfield on his testimonial match.

Hey fellow reds don't forget we still have the Europa league coming up that'll give us at least one anfield euro night to savor and possibly a chance to see borini get some solid game time. Also has the sterling assault case hindered his playing time or is it purely down to form. Thrilled with the progress walk on men walk on! YNWA

Eds
in my opionon next 3 games are cruical must win all three with the games spurs, Everton and arsenal have dropped points are going to happen by the time spurs game comes rnd at anfield could be 4 or 5 points off 4th still possible still belive but we must take 9 points outta 9 ynwa

05 Feb 2013 20:58:12
people talking a lot about top 4. don't think we will make it but looking at fixtures and the way we player last two games, who knows. need to win next three, then spurs, so fingers crossed.
now if we get there great, if we don't outside the fact of 15 mil, a shed load I know nothing changes. man city and chelsea out in first round, man united and arsenal out in the second round. I love man united fans taunting us on champions league entry, we won one each in the last 10 years as did chelsea. we are attracting players, one more forward in place of downing, and a few strong types down the middle, ashley williams maybe. I am really beginning to believe in br now, taking us in right direction, playing great football.

B O H

05 Feb 2013 18:26:38
hi eds, sturridge is a brilliant signing. lively and tricky. a great partner for suarez. I just pray coutinho fulfills his potential and make us a complete potent forward line. we are on our way up if we keep playing as we did against city, minus the howler from our calamity keeper.

05 Feb 2013 14:13:31
I'm hoping for a GK (begovic, vorm or valdes). CB cover (amorebieta on free agger double obvsly not as good! ). CM steel in the midfeild (Diame, moassa sisokko (unlikely) ). I think most of these are achievable!. Eds opinion more than anything?

05 Feb 2013 12:54:42
Ed what's the story with this match fixing thing? Is it true?
Cheers,
DublinRed. {Ed001's Note - it was an opposition goalkeeper, seems he rejected a bribe attempt but failed to report it.}

05 Feb 2013 20:26:16
We really need a new cb. Williams 10 million
A new left back? 7 million

A box-box mid who scores and creates chances who can play my bet would be strootman 15 million.

Thomas ince 5 million.

Vorm for 10 million if Reina leaves!

Outs reina 12 million
Pacheco nominal
Coates loan
Andy Carroll 17 million

Vorm
Johnson. Williams. Agger. Enrique
Gerrard Lucas
Strootman
Suarez. Coutinhio
Sturridge

That is a top side with pace energy fluidity and solid at the back these signings are very doable strootman deal seems genuine as respected people have claimed! What you think lads?

Skrtel, Reina, Carroll, Coates & Spearing most likely to leave raising 40m or so. Maybe Downing & Assaidi too if we get Ince.

I agree BR will target Vorm & Williams. I think someone like Iborra will be targeted as DM cover and I expect Ince to sign. Two for the future in Isimat-Mirin and Will Hughes and a player who can make a difference in attack. I'd like to see Jovetic.

Vorm; Johnson Williams Agger Enrique; Lucas, Gerrard, Coutinho; Sturridge, Jovetic, Suarez

Jones; Kelly, Wisdom, Isimat-Mirin, Robinson; Iborra, Allen, Henderson; Sterling, Borini, Ince

McLaughlin, Sama, Hughes, Shelvey, Suso, Yesil

05 Feb 2013 20:17:09
Liverpool Are close to agreeing a deal to sign eintracht keeper Kevin trapp, as a replacement for pepe reina.

Quality keeper.

Is the summer that close?

Yes lots of talk about Kevin Trapp, but Vorm is a good bet, also just saw on you-tube, german keeper Ter Stegan, and he looks really good, ps must mention Hendo, in the England 21 tonite, he was a stand out.

05 Feb 2013 20:15:18
Ince and henderson are the best players on the pitch absolute quality

We need to get ince back in the summer

16 goals for Blackpool this season, 4 on international duty, he's kicking arse at the moment, hope we bring him back and he can elevate his game to the very top level.

05 Feb 2013 20:05:59
i hope we get victor valdez and get rid of reina, keep sktl and agger who are amazing don't know why you lot slating him and actully believe downing is playing good? henderson still young and he slightly improving, downing needs to leave!

Valdez?
your having a laugh would rather have pepe any day of the week

Valdes is even worse than Reina!

Valdez is toilet and the wrong side of 30

Everytime a match finishes players from all over the world tweet and take to social networks to voice there opinions good and bad. The merry go round of the football managers continues in full circle and players have there say with yet more tweets.

Unfortunately more often than not players who are now paid millions doing a job which most of us would die for have nothing better to do than voice there opinions on anything, and what's concerning is players are now believing they have the right to slag off there own club, the club that pays them millions. These certain players have opinions on who they would prefer to be there manager, they have opinions on how the club is being run, they have opinions on how the club have fallen behind the likes of our rivals, they bitch bitch bitch continuously openly without a care in the world of who they attack knowing at the back of their minds the are angling for a move away from the club.

Unfortunately even our beloved club has a modern day footballer by the name of Pepe Reina, shame really he used to be a well respected member of the club, no more.

05 Feb 2013 22:37:36
Don't think he's said anything wrong. He's right to say we can't compete (like for like) with the City's and Chelsea's and right to point out we're trying a different philosophy (on and off pitch) to get there. Almost to a man this website says we lack the depth in the squad to challenge yet. He's also acknowledged his own bad performances too. Remember this is a key player who could have pulled a transfer stunt at the same time as Torres but gave us the benefit of the doubt and stayed. If he feels it's time to move now I'd bear him no ill will.

Freedom of speech and all that.

Still think it's better to keep quiet and look like a fool than to voice your opinion and remove all doubt.

05 Feb 2013 19:50:55
Starting to like the look of this Ince. Every time I watch him he scores. Jonjo on the other hand isn't good enough. It's a shame because he's a good lad but I think Henderson and Coutinho are much better players. DBol

IM sure a month ago youd say henderson wasnt good enough

Madness. Have we learnt nothing!? They are kids still, they will have slumps and high points for a few more years to come.

Lucas got *slated* in his early LFC years, and even now got questioned whilst coming back from injury only to put in that performance against Citeh looking like his pre-injury self for the first time in months.

Allen was excellent in his LFC start, Henderson was awful (as he was last year). JonJonjo had a tremendous start to the season, as did Sterling.

Now Allen, Jonjo, Suso and Sterling have slumped and Henderson has pushed on.

Lets get some perspective and watch these kids mature into a strong team of the future.

does anyone know the extent of sturridges thigh injury as need to know whether to put him in my dreamteam for double gameweek?! thanks!

He said he hopes to be fit for the WBA game but you'd need to ask Rodgers for a definitive answer.

05 Feb 2013 19:02:05
Can someone tell me why Assaidi hasn't even featured in the squad for the past few months? He's not injured, so i'm aware of, so what's the deal? I haven't seen him put in one bad performance in the europa league, and he's showed lots of skill, good dribbling ability and flair when taking on his man (better than downing in that department). Is he just going to be a Europa league player and nothing else? Feels like a waste to me. Hope this doesn't happen to Coutinho aswell, as Sahin, Assaidi and Aquilani have all come in as technically gifted, foreign midfielders and ended up being given barely a chance in the first team with not much reasoning behind the decision, where players like henderson and downing have been given game after, game after game to get their game right (and now seem to be showing atleast a bit of promise). Anyway I have slightly digressed from the original point, so what's the deal with Assaidi?

E.H LFC

He's been away at the African cup with morocco. He'll get a bid soon I am sure.
-slim

Have you considered that BR doesn't know how to use them effectively?

M

Assaidi does not feature much because he is not good enough. He needs to learn to get the ball in once he has beaten his man.

Instead, he checks back then tries to beat him again, then back again. If I was a forward in the box, I'd go spare.

I'm not saying he can't improve, but he is nowhere near good enough yet.

redmersey

Your not the only LFC fan who wants to see him play more seems very similar player to me like countinho. Think he should start over downing and sterling

For the past month, he's been away at the ACON hasn't he?

Keith

Seriously? You don't own an Internet? You only post on here and don't read any other posts?

Assaidi has been injured, then away at ACON.

SpudRed

Not looking too promising for last summers spending:

Assaidi : not good enough, injury prone
Borini : see above
Allen : found out
Sahin : binned after 4 months and few games.
Yesil : jury's out but doesn't play

Last poster; Really? No, I mean seriously?

I'd just like to take time to pay tribute to Glen Johnson. He is by far and away the best RB in the country.

Top top player - well done glen.

Secondly, Henderson and Downing have received all kinds of stick and are now vital players for us. I think Henderson was mense v ares and city. The team is taking shape and progress is there for all to see.

Ps. How did we lose at home to villa!' Ha ha football is a frustrating game. When I think of the points we have dropped this year which we should've won then we would indeed be sitting in 4th.

City at home - 2pts (let's not mention it Martin)
Everton away - 2 pts (perfectly good last min goal)
Man you at home (1 pt at least!)
Aresnal away - 2 pts (2 goals up!)
City away (2 pts dominated)
Spurs away (1pt for great 2nd half display)

There are others but these are the obvious ones for me.

I appreciate every team could make claims but we really have hammered teams this year to no avail sometimes.
That's 10 points. Joint 3rd.
Damned unlucky IMO.

Still time to get up there. Get behind the reds

Gazman

Swansea 3 pts. Enrique disallowed goal that was onside.
derryred

No he is not the best right back in the country, he can't defend

majestic69

I got to say I agree with you on Glen Johnson.
I think he's had a fantastic season, often getting overlooked as one of our top players.
I must admit it frustrates me when people say he can't defend. They say that because they've got used to saying it. I think he's become very accomplished at both ends now. Great player.

Whilst I kind of agree Gazman, I can't say luck has anything to do with it, last year we hit the post so much, so we missed by less than other teams, we need to find a way to be street wise, I dunno how that is done maybe it just comes with confidence of winning or momentum or whatever.

Andy The Red

Not to mention the disallowed goal against swansea

In terms of dodgy refereeing decisions we should have had 3 points against Swansea instead of 1 and 3 points against Everton instead on 1, however we you could argue we should have lost the game away to Chelsea instead of getting 1 point because there was a push in the build up to Suarez's goal. Still an extra 3 points from refereeing decisions alone. If you factor in all the games where our performance deserved more we'd easily be in 4th

Absolute rubbish. We were dominant in a lot of the games you mention but we did not win. That is all that counts. Maybe we are improving but when you consider how rubbish we were that's not hard, we have not beaten a team above us in the league and we lost to Oldham we still have miles to go to get 4th.

05 Feb 2013 19:12:06
I believe top four is still a possibility; spurs may regret not buying a forward especially with the defoe injury and adebarndoor is brutal. Everton draw a lot of games if we push on and get 4 or 5 wins we are right in the mix

I really think that fourth is beyond us this year
Although I would be over the moon if we got it I think the rebuilding has meant we are too far behind and we still need to introduce Coutinho to the team -I think he can take ownings place

05 Feb 2013 17:41:17
Lots of hype about Coutinho. then again we had a lot of that with Alberto Aquilani.

Coutinho may turn out to be a gem, but let's see how he adjusts to the PL and the team.

Still, he can't be any worse than Downing, can't believe people on here saying how well he's been playing.

Next game he plays you watch him take a ridiculous shot at goal and lose the ball repeatedly.

M

Thank you. I agree 100% downing is a waste of space I really think his the worst buy ever.

I agree about Downing. Ok, he has improved, but that wasn't difficult, was it?

If you watch back yesterday's game, you will see that every time he had the ball and was running at the full back, not once did he get past him. He just can't commit and take a man on. He sometimes gets the cross in, by making half a yard but very rarely by actually beating a man.

He still has a long way to go to convince me.

redmersey

I agree that Downing is one I would look to replace however to say he is a waste of space is over the top. He has been playing better and getting some confidence so let's hope that continues for the rest of the season and have a look then.

Andy K

05 Feb 2013 17:31:27
Why are supporters suddenly so desperate to bin Skrtel? He is having a really dodgy patch at the mo, but we were all arguing that Agger and Skrtel were the best CB pairing in the league last season, and both were priceless, what short memories you have! When Suarez had his dry patch last season did you want to sell him? It's always more noticeable when defenders are playing badly because we concede. when attacking players aren't playing well we can still keep a clean sheet - cut the lad some slack, in form, Agger and Skrtel are just what we need, last season we couldn't have asked for a better defence. I'd be gutted if he left.

He gets bullied by forwards and isn't that comfortable with the ball. He'll be sold like Reina

I would prefer to keep Skrtle as I think he's a top class defender but if he does leave what do people think of Shawcross as a possible target?

Totally agree. Some of the things said on here have been disgraceful considering he's had like 1 1/2 bad games. He was player of the season last season lol!
It's knee-jerk reactions, which seem to happen a lot recently.

The Boo Boys have to have someone to complain about, previously Downing and Henderson, and Pepe, and Sterling and so on. Now it is Skrtel. Knee-Jerk is right. He has been far too error prone this year and has cost us quite a few points but I still think he is our second best centre back behind Agger. I can see the Carragher contract extension as a result of Coates departure and possibly Skrtel as well with replacements coming in however we need to keep some stability.

Very good post. As soon as a player has 2 or 3 bad games, he's a leper that must be destroyed.
I think he was voted fans player of the season last season. People have short memories. But this will never change. i'm sure suarez will be the enemy at some stage, with people sayin BR should be fired for not selling him. Its easier to just accept that fans are fickle and move on. It will save you a lot of personal anger and frustration.

More of a question for ed, with Liverpool being linked in the match fixing probe are sanctions likely to be imposed or is it more of the opponents in the fixture? Just wondering if European ban could be possible or transfer embargo? It's obviously not good publicity AGAIN for lfc what could this mean to sponsors who were already upset after racism row? {Ed001's Note - we are not being linked, there are no potential sanctions.}

I would recommend reading the whole articles where there is no suggestion that Liverpool are under investigation, or our opposition for that matter outside of the goalie. Headlines are famously misleading.

I'm suprised there hasn't been more banter from other clubs going along the lines of:
The debrecen keeper was bribed to let in 2 goals and you still only scored one. Lol

MIKEY

Most other teams' fans don't even provide banter amongst themselves never mind aiming it at us haha.

RobInRed

The Debrecan keeper was banned for two years, not for throwing the game or for accepting a bribe, but for failing to report that he had been bribed.

He wasn't banned for accepting a bribe, but for neglecting to warn the correct authorities that he had been bribed. Learn2read.

The top CB I would move in the backline would have to be matt hummels, superb german CB with a winning mentality.
Edd001, what CB would you think be a likely' option?

Big Al {Ed001's Note - likely I don't know, but I would think the Spanish market is more likely to bear fruit. Not only are they used to playing the right type of football, they are also in a mess financially, so more likely to pick up a bargain.}

Hummels is Quality but I can see Dortmond demanding 25million for him and we won't pay that much.

Amorebieta Ed? {Ed001's Note - I am not convinced he is good for anything but getting sent off, lacks a bit of quality for me.}

Or Toby Alderweireld at Ajax looks a player if we are going to buy a defender for whatever reason.

So Reina has said we need time under BR and at the momment we are at a big disadvantage because we can't compete with them financially or with the size of the squads with the top 3.
What has he said that we didn't allready know anyway?
RNred

Over the last ten years we are the third biggest spending club behind City & Chelsea. So far FSG has spent over £150 million pounds so I believe he means we won't be held to ransom by absurd wage demands anymore. We know he wants to leave so he should stop making these comments to the press.
Scouse_Pride

The thing is we do and can compete with them financially and with the size of the squad so.

I, m not one for slagging players, but Pep Reina is obviously trying to get a move to Barca, I would let him go end of season. we all know he has been pretty awful last 18 months, his body language says it all, now his dad mouthing off bout Barca and so is he according to tv, I know jones ain't the best but I would drop Reina for a couple of games to kick him up the arse.

Footed dan

Jones is pants he was bad the fa cup games roger

Don't agree with you on Jones. But yes Reina should be sold he's a liability. People say he's good with his feet but wouldn't it be better to start with a keeper who is good with his hands first. Cash in on him as we did Torres whilst we still can, his ability obviously on the slide

No, he really isn't, read what he said.

Except he just said he will fulfil the length of his contract

Maybe Arsene Wenger paid him 5 million in the summer of 2010 to stay at Anfield and cost us points by making mistakes in crucial games when we got closer to 4th.

Conspiracy theory.

He is just having a bad patch. He is still a great keeper. He always had problems with crosses, and 1 on 1, so what's new.
mgz

If Ray Clem had a son playing goalie for a big team, he'd say the same thing about thinking it would be nice to see play for Liverpool.

Reina's dad played 'keeper for Barca for 7 years, and 7 more at Atletico. Won 6 titles in La liga. He's 67 and would like to see his son play there. Who blames him.

Reina has always been way too honest in the press. He doesn't do a lot of interviews but always delivers a no sh****er when he does. He said we're are not ready to compete with the top 4, we aren't. He said he wants too and plans too fulfill his contract with us. He might. What's so wrong with what he said?

Personally, I think he still has it physically but is mentally shot at the moment and has been on a downslope since 2010. We need to get Ocho back as a part time coach to get Reina confident again. :-)

You say our main priority is defence summer. But surely its the midfeld need some goals from there eg eriksen mould dreaming about him but in his mould. Maybe somebody strong and probably abother winger. Maybe even striker. We were soooo short now were soo loaded we aren't we have sturridhe and maybe suarez but for me number 10 is his perfect position. So would you say its a matter of defence priority or one defender?

Coutinho has been bought to play in the number 10 position, I think.

I think Sturridge, Suarez, Sterling, Gerrard, Coutinho and Shelvey are enough for the goal scoring department.

And Hendo for that matter.

Don't know who's coaching the LFC young ladsplaying in the tournament in Qatar but they need to get their finger out. The lads were given a real chasing by the AspireQatar squad who were more athletic, more advanced both in terms of reading the game and tactics. You can't do a lot oif you come up against a team that is more gifted but these lads just excelled in all the elements of the game that can be coached. The 3-1 result didn't flatter Qatar

Do you have any idea how hot it is in quatar?

Or they are more acclimatised to the weather in Qatar.
Scouse_Pride

What age group was the game? Aspire won the milk cup in Northern Ireland a couple of years back beating man Tudor 6-1 in the final with some of the best football I've ever seen for that age group. Naturally the academy are loaded and regularly offer citizenship to African and South American talent. They certainly mean business for when they host the World Cup.

Arent they two years older then our kids? A 16 year old vs a 18 year old is a big difference

Liverpool fixtures in the runing or not to bad I think we could get top 4 but we need to play the way we have in the last 2 games and go to win every game from now till the end we have nothing to lose trying to playing fast football.
West Brom H 3-1

Swansea H 2-1

Wigan A 0-2

Tottenham H 1-0

Southampton A 1-2

Aston Villa A 1-3

West Ham H 3-0

Reading A 0-3

Chelsea H 1-1

Newcastle A 2-4

thats means Liverpool end up on 62 pts this year that could just see us get the top 4 have to hope could be done. #kyle ireland

If only it was as easy as that

Massively over optimistic with predictions.

You forgot
Everton H
Fulham A
QPR H

If we keep playing the way we have in the last 2 games we can finish the season on a high however I don't see us winning 9 and drawing 1 out of them 10 games.

Some of my opinions, wisdom- if he doesn't play CB or even CDM (where he used to play) then he doesn't have a future at LFC, at fullback he doesn't offer anything going forward same goes for flanno & Kelly, they simply don't have the ability that glenaldiniho has and that can be bought in cheaply. Either wisdom or Kelly could be a CB of the future if say skrtel goes and kelly isn't seen as his replacement will he ever be? No. If he doesn't want to sign a new contract don't sweat, will he ever be 1st choice england right back? No. Carra- it seems I was premature writing him off a few weeks back maybe it was coates bringing his level down. Hendo- finally pulling though as I've said lost of times under many different names. Transfer window- what a great window for us couldn't of realistically gone better. Football- I'm 17 and this is the best I remember seeing us play live. So much potential for this squad it's unbelievable. Renovated Anfield on the way. Within 5 years we WILL win the BPL.

Swampmonster

I know you're only 17 but comparing attacking FB's to Glen Johnson is like comparing CM's with Steven Gerrard. Just silly. Each position is different, needs different qualities, each player is different and only a few are exceptional.

Kelly is an excellent attacking FB. he just is. He is also injury prone but that's another argument. Wisdom and Flanno are not attacking FB's. but then you don't always need 2 all out attacking full backs. Say Coutinho or Suarez is playing inside forward, you might want a more defensive guy like Wisdom or Flanno sitting back behind them.

Either way we have 2 excellent attacking FB's coming up through the youth in McLaughlin and Smith. If (and its a fairly big if) Enrique can stay fit for prolonged periods over the next few years then we have no need to look outside for FB's.

We need experienced and quality CB's. that is the area we need to focus on next window.

SpudRed

Wisdom is awesome nuff said

Wisdom Might be "awesome" when a CB

Lyndon

I don't rate wisdom at all, he has no technical ability. Not a bad defender, he reminds me of micah richards, absolutely braindead on the ball

Our system needs overlapping fullbacks and Wisdom is not good enough at that. Same with Flanagan. While some teams and formation or systems may not require attacking fullbacks, ours does.

Andy K

Sigh, I can assure you I have a much higher standard of tactical awareness than most posters on this site. Even if only 17. The facts are that Liverpool fc no longer uses defensive fb's as you put it, the technical standard required in the MODERN game is far higher than wisdom and Kelly posses. Smith & mcgloughlin are of the technical standard required I agree both attacking fb's. Using the age thing really wasn't wise the attempt at patronising me when actually you don't know what you're talking about is rather foolish.

There is a lot of talk about Pepe on here as expected after his mistake on Sunday and him coming out and saying we won't make top 4 and with gerrard saying he still believes we can do it.
I kind of see both points. Gerrard is right to be looking positive and pepe is being realistic. We are on the right track and playing very well as Sunday proved. Although Pepe said he doesn't believe we will finish top 4 he also said he doesn't want to leave. Unfortunately he made a mistake on Sunday but when a keeper makes a mistake it genrally ends up in a goal. So let's not be too hard on him he has been class for years.
And in terms of the top 4, I don't think we will get it this season but that is not suggesting we are in trouble. I have witnessed a massive improvement this season and I believe we have to be patient and give brendan time as its looking good so far.

I regularly read the comments on these pages. I cannot begin to articulate how disappointed I am. The targetted abuse of OUR players is ridiculous. Equally abhorrent is the recent abuse of the Eds on this site. We have developed the small team mentality of other clubs & it is often petty, small-minded & lazy. It has been clear from day 1 of BR's tenure that we are behind our top 4 rivals (I base that on income, fanbase & football community standing) as oppose to our present situation. It has been clearly expressed by everyone within the club that this will be a transition period. Yet still we have regular witchunts on here by certain individuals (replacing long term goals with short term negativity) on the club and its employees. I can understand all the frustration, upset & anger- I agree that people are entitled to their opinions but come on this is Liverpool-do I need to say more to true fans. Recent criticism of Reina, one of the best keepers we ever had. The City game, he did make a mistake in rushing out but his real mistake then was being too honest & not taking one for the team by smothering Aguero. From an ethical point of view he was correct in his conduct but we see it happen regularly in the middle of the park so a booking would have possibly won us the game. I'm uncomfortable winning that way but as a person who watched Spanish & Italian football in the 80s you could see why Pepe may have attempted a piece of cynicism. Sorry slightly off-track there. The criticism of Skrtel is also unfair, the system being played leaves the centre-halves more vulnerable & as Skrtel isn't blessed with blistering pace he can be caught out. Criticism of Downing (I was guilty too) was premature, he came with a reputation of being a player who gets better in the second half of the season and bingo! so he has,

Why no name?
Might I suggest 'a light in the darkness'?

Puzzled

We don't need players who come good in the second half of the season. They should be at their best from August to May.

05 Feb 2013 15:40:27
Hi Eds just wondering whether you think if borini doesn't show an upturn in form before the end of the season we would consider selling him in the summer?

I'm not writing him off or anything as I think when he gets to know the team he could become a useful poacher but it's nt working right now and keeping him next year as a squad player will only hinder his development.

JC {Ed001's Note - no, he was bought for the long term, I expect him to be given time to settle in.}

05 Feb 2013 15:19:11
I'm a but suprised by all the praise being heaped on downing and more suprised by the fact that he's being used every week in the squad! For me he botches nearly every forward pass he makes, he stalls on break always, and he stops our momentum bh giving away possession. Granted his work rate has improved, but what has he actually accomplished? He puts in a lot of crosses, arguably not a useful tactic for our current style, even if you value crosses in the game, the only one in a position to receive his crosses are the corner flags! What is happening here? Am I missing something?

Alternatively Henderson has been terrific. Happy to see him find a spot and become a physical presence in the midfield.

No real leadership in that back 4 (5 including reina) unless carra is playing.
Someone needs to step up or we need to replace a couple.
Johnsons defending and positioning can be woefull at times, as can enriques. Skrtle and maybe agger can be guilty of switching off as well.
The rest are all youngsters and still learning the trade.
We need to bring in someone like a younger version of carra in the cb position to organise everyone or a keeper who is vocal and can organise the defenders properly never allowing them to switch off.
Skrtle and reina are the most likely to be replaced, Maybe just replacing one will sort it out but I would think both might go in the summer.
Wisdom and Kelly are too young to go into the middle right now IMO. If we had a 26 year old carra I wouldn't worry about them playing there but we have agger who although I rate highly he is not someone who is going to organise everyone like carra does.
I doubt wisdom and Kelly have it in them to start shouting at the likes of Johnson and telling him to get in position. Maybe in 5 years they will have it in them. But for now we need to bring in someone who is experienced and a fighter, we need some balls and organisation in defence and in a keeper.
I think it's especially important we get in carra mk2 in central defence with the likes of Robinson, wisdom and Kelly coming through in the next couple of seasons, these young guns need an old head on the field guiding them and keeping them in check to fullfill their full potential.
That's my take on the defence anyway, I don't feel we have a bad defence but there is defiantly room for improvement.
As we have found out to our cost this year just one defensive error can lose you points. You can never cut out all defensive errors but if you identify what causes the bulk of them and try and fix it then you can cut down on them and we need every point possible next year.

MIKEY

Johnson and Enrique are brilliant going forward they bring balance to the team and out ball in wide positions. When one or both push forward it's the defence mids job to cover. That's the modern day fullback. As for getting caught out of position? Who's worse than Evra for that. He still plays though and there still top of the league.
Full back position when Johnson and Enrique are fit is the least of our worries.

Thanks for letting me post this again Ed! I got my home jersey at the weekend and wanted to know if any of the Ed's or fellow Reds could help me choose what name to get on the back of it? I am stuck between 3 names - Gerrard, Coutinho, Henderson.

Gerrard - Legend at the club, been my hero since he came into the first team.

Coutinho - The future of the club, very excited by what he can offer, huge talent.

Henderson - He has become one of my favourites at the club and is improving with every game, great attitude.

So I just wanted a little help from you guys to help me choose what name to get. I appreciate all comments made by you guys and any other suggestions would be welcome.
Cheers lads!
TedRed. {Ed001's Note - I only ever get JFT 96 on the back of mine, never seen the point in getting a player's name when they will leave eventually.}

Have to say I'm a Henderson convert now, thought he was dead wood and was very vocal about it, well done Jordan!

Gerrard
we all know he won't leave lfc

I would say Gerrard

Same here Ed just I got that on the away jersey so I thought I'd go for a name this time just for a change!
TedRed. {Ed001's Note - whoever I get leaves, so I don't get names.}

Henderson and Coutinho will have to wait for another year I'm going with Stevie! Living Legend and it just won't be the same without Stevie G banging 'em in from 30 yards. World's best midfielder in my opinion. let's just hope we can win him a Premier League title before he goes!
Cheers guys,
TedRed.

Put your own name on or YNWA!

I was thinking of getting my name but to be honest "O'Reilly" just doesn't look right on a Liverpool jersey! Cheers for your idea anyway!

Also Ed to be honest I picked these 3 players because I think there future with LFC is safe for now anyway! Coutinho only joined, Gerrard will never leave and Henderson I feel is safe for the next season or two at least in my opinion. Don't jinx it Ed haha!
Cheers,
TedRed. {Ed001's Note - don't worry, it is only when I have gone and got their name they have left. I have an old Carragher one he gave me, and he is still going strong for us.}

anyone else think reina should shut up and focus on his game?

Barcelona is the best club in the world 2nd bad quote from him

I read he said the best team in the world and isn't that right?

Um, at the moment it is. What was the question asked of him? If it was, "what is the best club in the world currently?" Then he kindof answered correctly.

SpudRed

If he wants to f off (and seems like he does, from quotes and performances) sooner get rid the better.

Who is a better football team than Barcelona then?
I love this club but I am not going to say that we are better than possibly the greatest team of all time.
Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa & Messi are on a different planet in a footballing sense add to the Jordi Alba is on his way to their level.
Scouse_Pride

I'm fed uP of being lied to, so I welcome Reina's honesty.

They are the best in the world

Well how can anybody disagree with that.

Reina is only telling the truth, which is why it hurts. Obviously the headline were Sky's sensationalism which is expected, but what Reina said was the truth. He spoke of his frustration being on the sidelines and how he's found this season very unsettling from a personal point. (Kuyt left, they are best mates on and off the field, families are close and that's surely tough when it's all you've known).

Then he spoke of the team, and that it's more than just two quality players we are behind the rest. This is where it makes huge sense for me. We've bought very young players, a new generation for a generation type of thing. A new manager and we have not got that winning mentality throughout the squad, yet. That takes time to build and implement.

We need to work harder, Brendan needs to be given time and support, the new philosophy will take time. Reina gives a damn, that's why he's asking for time for the manager and new tactics to be implemented throughout the club. He's not asking the owners for time, he's asking the everyday and weekend fan to look at the bigger picture, alas his words fall on deaf ground.

He's one of the senior members of the squad, since the Summer of 05, that's close to 8 years, he gets to speak his mind honestly and fairly for me after that length of time and he did so professionally, more of the same please, judging how well his comments we not received I think a dose of reality is needed.

BCDI.

Yep he is absolutely wrong. because Corinthians is the best club in the world.
I think people like you should stop picking on every phrase a player suppose to have said. All players say all sort of things and most of it is made up and the rest is just nonsense.

Roy

Last seasons player of the year- Skrtle
Kenny signed rubbish-Hendo, Enrique and now Downing showing form. Not to mention Carrol looking very good at west ham when fit.
Interesting, seems to be very little Patience or loyalty. I understand different styles and formations will suit different players but to a lot on here it is easier to just slate players and managers at times.
the begining of the season it was all Allen and Shelvey, and sell Hendo and Downing, now it is all Hendo and Downing and Allen is crap.
I would suggest the return to fitness of Lucas has allowed Gerrard to advance more which has benefitted Hendo and Downing.
How Fickle fans are. {Ed001's Note - when has Carroll looked good at West Ham? I must have missed that moment.}

Carroll good at West Ham lol, he's been like Scarlet pimpernel

Ed01, it was the 80th minute of the last game he played, his first back after a lengthy injury layoff. The first half of the season is a wash. He's brilliant now.

And fans are fickle and very much what have you done in the last 10 minutes of paying time. I hate it, but it is what it is. And people can slate Rodgers but his man management skills have brought out the best in Hendo and he is looking like a top drawer player now. He's also given Enrique and Downing the boot up the arse they needed to reach good levels on the former and acceptable squad levels on the latter.

Andy Carroll is not a Liverpool player, squad or otherwise. Sorry.

He does the job he is given very effectively at West Ham in my eyes. Their results with him in the team are far better than without him. I don't think he will ever return to us or ever suit out style but I think he is playing Sam football well by standing still and waiting for it to be lumped forward and brining others into it, if not scoring enough.

Poor old skrtel getting a slating recently. He's had a few poor games (before the oldham game we were solid (ish) actually). He was our best defender by a mile last year, his touch and passing have been much better last 2 seasons, and when he doesn't play we can't win a header from a corner. Against arsenal and city, I for one dreaded any set pieces as mertesacker, giroud, Garcia and dzecko won almost every aerial challenge. Carra makes the back line better with organisation, but Skrtel is a much better player.
Also against worse teams (or at home) we can't have the backline sitting nearly as deep as how we have in the last 2 matches. We'll be in for a few more draws if we do I'm afraid.

Jason

Interesting the way the arguments and debates are developing over our defending.

To me, the crux is not necessary the personnel, but the fact that BR has reverted back to zonal marking. With the exception of Wisdom who has broken through this season, the same defenders looked more comfortable last term under Dalglish's methods.

I'm 5ft 6ins, 58 and overweight (slightly!) but I would would fancy my chances scoring a header from a set piece against this lot.

Been watching the reds since 1961 and think I've seen every type of goal a player can score but still waiting to see a zone score one, so why mark them?

Ha it's a good point mate. I guess the theory is that in order to attack the ball in zonal marking, players give themselves a little room. If you're following an attacker around the box it can be more difficult for you as the defender to make the first move to the ball. Saying that I think we don't have the height or power in our team to challenge most teams if we and them both have a running start to the ball. I like zonal marking in theory but it does not suit our personnel at all.

Eds and fellow Reds: With regards to the goalkeeping situation, it's looking likely that Pepe will be on his way to pastures new in the summer but who would be the best replacement?
Begovic looks nailed on for manu, Ter Stegan is not playing well at all, Kevin Trapp is outstanding but is only 23. There's another name I'm going to throw in the hat 26yr old Leicester City keeper Kaspar Schmeichel who's now got good experience and has been improving season on season to now be a really excellent keeper.
How great would it be if we won The Premier with Schmeichel in goal: ): )
Think old whisky nose would choke: 0)
Seriously though I think he's developed into a really good keeper that will end up eventually at a top club.
He could be worth looking at, he's also a little bit mad; which helps if your a goalie.

If and it looks like Pepe will leave in the summer, Kevin Trapp would fit in really well, or the swansea keeper, who BR knows well.
redforever

I live in Leicester and I do follow them quite a bit. You're spot on! Schmeichal is a quality keeper and I cannot believe he is still playing in the second tier on England. I really don't think Leicester would be 2nd in the championship without him. Definitely best keeper in the league. I think that if Pep does leave would should take a real good luck at this guy!

RedSpud

Just realised Gordon Banks and Peter Shilton both played for Leicester City.
I believe in that sort of stuff. great keepers and that passing through the same club. £3m to £5m could be a snip.

As Ed1 eluded to yesterday it's very hard to asses how good a goalkeeper is with his feet. There are plenty of good shot stoppers in the league but is that enough to slot in as Reina's replacement. Personally i'd be surprised if the club didn't at least talk to Swansea about the possibility of signing Vorm. I do think Liverpool will be in for a busy summer in the transfer market, let's just all get behind the team and push them all the way to a shock four spot. We've still got Spurs and Everton to play at Anfield but the next two league games will be crucial to our season, West Brom at home on the same weekend Arsenal and Everton both have difficult away games. Then the game after we host Swansea a chance to pull away from the teams below us, I just hope the players take the chance and don't let it slip away yet again.

Give Sama a run. A younger version of Ledley King.

Injury prone?

Hans

Sama is a great prospect

If Agger was more vocal like Jamie there is a case for putting either Kelly, Sama or Wisdom in that slot.
Personally would play Gerrard there, which would leave a position in midfield up for grabs? Coutinho, Allen, Shelvey or Suso would have a better chance of claiming a regular slot and we would be better at the back with Johnson, Gerrard, Agger and Enrique a classy back 4.

Not in the first team, he needs experience. his positioning needs work.

While I wouldn't move Gerrard from midfield right now, I can see the merit in him as a centre back where I think he would excel.

iam truly excited bout what the future holds for Liverpool. great manager, good current squad getting the best out of what he has and to top that off some great talents in the youth team to propel us even further forward. I know next season is a long way off and this season hasn't finished, but i'm truly excited to see how it goes if we maitain this current form.
max

Yes, its looking so much better now, and this season has/is a big learning curve for BR and his team, with the return of Lucas, sturridge bringing another dimension to our attack, and the great Stevie G being able to play further up, and Hendo/downing improving, we look to have much more pace and power thru the team, and ha that SAS combo is going to get us so many goals, so good.

Hi EDS not a rumour but more a question. Do we use the same scouts on a continuous basis or chop and change. the reason I ask is Coates and to a lesser degree Assaidi are both being linked with a move awayWhile Coates has played several games most have been as part of a weakened team in the cups while Assaidi has not had a look in as such. If judgement is passed so quickly on players who have not played regularly and with what is thought to be a full strenght team what sort of job are the scouts doing.

Thanks

dub96 {Ed001's Note - the scouting team is usually brought together by the management team, though often they will keep the previous regime's scouts in place. It is not just about what the scouts have to say, the manager (or otherwise depending on the club) will be the one deciding, the scouts are simply there to give suggestions. Most managers will then check out players more closely themselves before making a move.}

A manager that is able to get the best out of his squad is an absolute asset.

BR has completely turned Hendo and Downing around. They are like 2 new signings.

Lets hope it lasts!

Levans.

Add Enrique to that list at least before he got injured vs qpr we was unstoppable on the left flank.
Hopefully Reina & Skrtel would be the next 2 to be drastically improved.

Rubbish

hendo and downing are more settled

he has hardly got the best from allen borini assaidi sahin

Henderson yes, downing no. It confuses me that so many people think downing is becoming good.

What games are you people watching? Every time I watch a Liverpool match I cringe when downing gets the ball because although he works hard he has NO end product. At least 90% of the things he does result in the other team getting possesion back.

I think he is overrated, we over spent on him and he has had a huge amount of time to prove people wrong but never has.

Noshbag

I agree about the settling time being beneficial however I also believe that BR is getting the improvement from them. Hendo and Enrique are going fine and while Downing is hardly setting the world on fire, he is much improved. As for the 90% resulting in possesion turn over, well that is rubbish, high 80s at most.

sturridge in the press saying that he believes top 4 is still possible, Gerrard in the press saying he believes top 4 is still possible, pepe reina in the press saying Liverpool can not compete and will not finish in the top 4!

Reina is turning into a bit of a whinging minnie, negative attitude and a stubborness in accepting that he has made a few howlers, seriously needs to go or get behind the team and shut up!

shelvey needs to wind his neck in aswell, why do footballers feel the need to talk rubbish to the press?

Sounds like someone else needs to wind his neck in.

Po

Reina needs a fresh start. Like I have been saying for some time, the guy has fallen out of love with our club. The sooner he packs his bag, the better.
Indian Buzzer

What do you disagree with kind sir? I would be most interested in hearing your opinion?

do you think it is right for professional footballers to go public with their complaints, concerns and moans?

Reina needs to realise its the likes of him that are the reason we won't make top 4 worry about his own house a bit. Tommy Irish Red

The same Gerrard who along with Suarez recently questioned the transfer policy of signing just youngsters?
I think you need to be a bit carefull of the quotes.
Given rodgers himself said after the City match that we still probably need "2 or 3 certain types of players, the type of players City can go out and buy"
I get the feeling He and the senior players know that unless you add genuine experinced quality players to the good youngsters there is only so far you can go and compete with consistently.
I have not read the Reina quote but I do believe the foregein players are sometimes mis quoted and when they really mean can't compete financialy, it is just reported as compete.
Gerrard has recently said himself that Suarez has very good english but pretends he doesn't to avaoid talking to the press here.

What's Shelvey said?

Bristol Red

How cn you criticize him?. that's nonsense.
fallen out. no cl from years. and still in rebuilding.
he is in his prime of time. needs medals. like every other players.
still stayed with Liverpool and rated one of the best in the world.
and you want him to pack the bags.
pls let gerrard also pack his bags.
he is the only spanish living player with us. who stood by Liverpool when people started leaving us.

he himself admit he has been poor for one season.
and there has been many reasons for this.
never been injured. always consitent until this season. he is a senior member of Liverpool.
have seen 4managers passed by his side. and still stood with us.
go and support other teams.
if reina doesn't deserve respect.
let us all hang ourslef.
he among with gerrard is the symbol of the word loyalty.

YNWA

It might be wide of the mark but Pepe's body language has looked wrong for a long time to me, no longer the same celebrating, determined figure but now hardly ever smiling on the pitch and barely saying a word of encouragement to his defenders.

Red Ollie

Pepe's dad is in the papers last week pining for a dream move to Barcelona, and Pepe follows that up with his comments about not being able to compete for a position in the top 4.

Do we really need to be telling a player to shut up and get behind the team? Embarassing, really!

-Red Socks

Reina didn't ''moan'' just because you didn't like what he said, he was being honest and explaining Rodgers way will take time and that we need to support the new manager.

Reina's probably really fed up with all the stupid fans coveting 4th place every season, we aren't good enough yet and two quality players won't change that, it's a mentality that we haven't quite got yet, but in time we will find it.

Reina didn't once slag Liverpool off, as so many ''nah I didn't read the article fans'' such as yourself seem to think.

to indian buzzer.
you have been also saying joe allen is execptional.
any updates?

Too much is made of players quotes. They are just peoples opinions. I think we have seen the best we will see from Pepe and in all likelihood he will leave at the end of the year. I think it will be best for him to start afresh and I think it will be best for the club to have someone a bit more hungry to be here. I have no bitterness towards him, he has been a great servant to the club and while he has been involved in too many silly goals over the last 18 months, he has also saved us on many occasions over his tenure.

Everyone is claiming we must get CL football to attract the best players for next season but we are still Liverpoolfc and can attract the best players. We have shown for the last few months that we can compete with the top 4 in fact player for player we are not so different from the top 4.
Purchasing Sturridge has strengthened us and weakened Chelsea. It wouldn't surprise me if they finish out of top 4, Rafa ain't the manager he used to be, the game has changed.
If we don't come 4th then so be it we strengthen further in the summer and challenge next season. We are moving in the right direction and we have clever owners thinking long term rather than bankrupting the club short term.

Agree with most of it accept for the 'Rafa ain't the manager. the game has changed" bit. He is only been out of the game a couple of years, it hasn't moved on much since then. The Chelsea appointment was a strange one in my eyes.

Andy K

I would love to know how the game of football has "changed" so much since 2010?

Remember rafas first season with us 58 points everton above us cl winners now I think rafa went in to chelsea when there team is in transition and fans didn't want him a bit like woy with us. rafa is a good coach and needs to bed in at a club and get a few players of his own in would love him to get real madrid job just to see how he would do with proper support he never got at board level here are anywhere at chelsea. hi eds just wanting your opinion on jack dunn? do you think he has the potential to make it in the the PL thanks for all your hard work {Ed001's Note - ability wise, yes. He needs to stay fit and focused though, another injury like his last one could well set him back too far.}

Ok any Mancs reading this may snigger
But got to say, (Even though we're completely blameless!) Why always us? Just the very fact our name linked to this 'fixing scandal', leaves a sour taste. {Ed023's Note - Best to ignore it}

We are the Mario of the EPL

The fact that some Hungarian goalkeeper has allegedly taken bribes in the past and one of the games happened to be against us is something that is out of our control and is really nothing to do with us.

was talking to an older utd supporter the other week and he said that he supported utd when they went through much rougher times than we ever did getting relegated not winning much for 70s 80s. he said his sons would not know how to deal with utd not getting it all their own way near every season let's hope they get to experience a bit of what their the had to put up with. And out of the hundreds of allegedly fixed games, what team to the media decide to mention first?

They really can't get enough of us can they.

Now the transfer window has now closed we can now see how the rest of this season plays out. Definitely think the team is moving in the right direction, although we still struggle with consistency.
This Summer will be key for us, if we want to push forward for the top 4 finish we need. Key has to be keeping hold of Suarez and the signs are he wants to stay. Only issue would be if Bayern or Man City come in with a 50m plus offer. We clearly need a top draw defender to take over from Carra, not since Sami left have we had a defender we can completely trust. We also need cover at left back, as Enrique seems to lack fitness to last the season. Luke Shaw looks a good prospect for the future.
In midfield we need to find a long term replacement for Stevie G, not sure who that is going to be. Possibly worth looking at James Mcarthy. With Downing and Henderson getting more game time I think we will still see them playing in red next season. Joe Allen has struggled so far and I hope he doesn't turn out to be another Charlie Adam. For me we need an experienced central midfielder and we should try and get Xabi back. Up front, I think we have good attacking options. I do think we need one more striker to play through the middle with Suarez and Sturridge either side. Wilfred Bony looks like a very prospect. Another option could be a move for David Villa, he could play on the left of the front 3.
If Reina goes then I do think we should definitely go for Begovic from Stoke. He has premiership experience and is very consistent.
Possible outs -
Reina - 15m
Skrtel - 10m
Spearing - 2-3m

Possible Ins -
Begovic - 10m to 12m
Wilfred Bony or David Villa - 15m
Xabi Alonso - 15m
Luke Shaw - 5m - 7m

Net spend after outgoings, approx 20m - 22m
For me this would be a good investment and would make us stronger for next season.
Apologies for the long winded rant, I appreciate it if you took the time to read this

Agree with it - but who replaces Skrtl?

id happily give Wisdom or Kelly a run myself.

Terry Mac Fan Club

So, all we need is a GK, a CB and a LB, 2 CM's (one of them a replacement for Gerrard no less and the other of the quality of one the best passers this game has seen), a Winger and a Striker. So, 7 new first team players should sort us out. ;-)

SpudRed

Disagree with selling skrtel for 10m more like 15m-18m

forget about alonso and villa

if reina goes then I hope we get mihalov back or we go for marc andre ter stegen

and at cb we need amorebieta (beast)

what a difference from last year.

i thought Liverpool would be in trouble this year but you have been this season surprise.

tottenham, chelsea and everton are your hard games.
that you have left.

gerrard and carragher have been there b4.

you have more experience than tottenham and everton in qualifying.

i would not rule out a run at cl football.

Pretty tragic for us if other club's fans think that Liverpool sitting in 7th is the surprise package of this season! LOL

All them hard games are home I think any one know?

Riders main targets for the summer are a CB a layer who can play both RB and LB. Tom incr if we can get him back on the cheap. The marquee signing will be a right winger

Marquee signing will be Alexis Sanchez mark my words. he will replace carroll

front three of

RWD. ST. LWF
suarez, sturridge, sanchez*
(downing, borini, sterling)

in the middle we will buy kevin prince boateng

middle three of

. DM
. lucas. (iborra*)
. RCM. LCM
gerrard, boateng* (henderson, coutinho)

do you people know what you are talking about. begining of the season I read the post that allen and sterling are doing so wonderful game after game how impressive their play. right up to the time they are suddenly benched. in a blink of an eye they go from wonderful to disapointing. same for henderson and downing they sit on the bench and they are called rubbish right up until they suddenly play then all of a sudden they are superb. we need three points to tie arsenal when we get a draw we are still three points behind arsenal and everyone is satisfied. don't anyone know that with arsenal leading in the standings a draw is like a win because we can't catch them. i'm knew to wathing football so I read this site to learn. but how many of you know what your talking about. that's my question {Ed023's Note - Do you know what you're talking about?}

Glad you said your new to watching football because that explains a lot.
Just read your post again and see if you can honestly say any of it makes sense, because I cant.

05 Feb 2013 10:18:18
Mate if your expecting top4 then you will be disappointed

I won't be too critical of the post (from OP) because I suspect that English is not his/her first language. But the apparent viewpoint behind it is not very sensible

Puzzled

Arsenal barely beat stoke at home and we almost best the defending champions away at their ground. These two fixtures are not comparable. That is the reason the league is judged over 38 games.

That's how you actually win against Arsenal, Man City is it?

Rafa inherits a very expensive squad.
Makes less points in 13 matches than Di Matteo did in 12.
Still wanted back by some Liverpool fans. I suspect the same ones that want over-priced, petulent, moneygrubbing players that Rafa and Mancini have now (except Mata).
Just sayin'. {Ed023's Note - These people would find anything to moan, you should just ignore them because whoever wants Rafa back in charge are clueless or else don't support Liverpool.}

Ed023 that's a bit rough, I for one don't want rafa back but to say if you do your not a Liverpool supporter. Just have a look at what he and his wife have done for various charitys related to Liverpool.
Come on eds your better than that.
Eam {Ed001's Note - but that is not a reason to want him as manager of the club. It is possible to separate the man, who is a very nice guy, from the manager, who just isn't good enough.}

05 Feb 2013 13:22:19
nonsesne.
supporting Liverpool since started watching football.
if you think rafa isn't good enough now.
then KK isn't good enough as a striker now.
absolute rubbish.
he is still a Liverpool legend. no matter. what ed says or not. {Ed001's Note - you make no sense. Dalglish was a genius, but he is certainly not good enough now. So what is your point?}

I agree. but he was almost good enough wasn't he. what was it, 4 points from the title? Still hurts a bit. Whatever happened to federico macheda anyhow?

I think the ed means the people who want rafa back at Liverpool are not Liverpool fans because having him back would drag us down. So they must be rival supporters to want that.

I think we should bid for Benteke if Villa goes down? Fletcher went down with Wolves, yet he has been awesome for Sunderland. Benteke will make a lot of sense for us as he can score goals. We can sweeten the deal by letting them have Shelvey on a season long loan to help their promotion cause.

Do you think Shelvey will really want to play championship football next season after playing in so many Prem games this year and making his international debut.

Turns out that we happen to be under investigation for the champions league match fixing scandal. Although it's not believed we had anything to do with the actual match fix. Hopefully that is the case. PREPARE YOURSELF, The trolls are coming.

Yea I agree and people of other clubs won't care if we're blameless they'll still spout s ite. it's a case of don't let the facts get in the way

OP, I will suspect you are he first troll then.
Liverpool is not under any investigation. It was made clear if you listen and read the news

Replying poster read what I said (if you can!)-other fans! Ffs doohhhhh (was agreeing with you) Jesus

We are not under investigation for match fixing. The keeper who played against us in one game is under investigation. that's it. It has nothing to do with the club so ignore it.

Ed. is Wisdom a right or centre back?. he looks very uncomfortable at right bk but could be a cheaper solution to replace any of the cbks. {Ed001's Note - centre back, just providing cover at right back.}

Andre wisdom and ashley williams to be the future center of our defence, that would do me nicely : D {Ed001's Note - Ashley Williams? Hardly the future.}

He wouldn't do much worse than skrtel. tommy Irish Red

Wisdom and samba are the future. Tommy Irish Red

Think he means because he's like 28 year old

Dips

Skrtel had one bad game, which I think a lot was down to Coates anyway. Get off his back.
Knee jerk reactions!

While I think the targeting of Skrtel is over the top, he has cost us some points this year while not necessarily having a totally poor game. If we can get good money for him in the off season, I would take it however I would also be playing him ahead of Carra. We have conceeded 2 in each of our last two, admittedy with Skrtel partly to blame for the second against City.

Andy K

05 Feb 2013 00:21:55
Ed001 I think the most likely thing that happened was reina giving skrtel the call that he had it covered because that's what PL GKs do and Reina came pelting out of his line so fast slrtel done the right in trying to protect the goal

If you watch it you will see reina was running as fast as usain bolt which is why skrtel slowes down to stay in line with the goal for protection

I also believe skrtel is a liability to and cost us in the same match earlier this season

I would certainly look at atleast bringing in strong competition in the summer {Ed001's Note - I know that Reina shouted, hence why Skrtel flaps his hands behind him. The point I am making is that Skrtel's job is to get the ball out of there, no matter what shout he gets. Then they should argue about it after wards. His error. If Skrtel had just got in there and got rid of the ball, Reina would have had nothing to charge out at.}

Hind sight is a wonderful thing.

KernowRed

Ed01, I get what you are saying. However, factor in that Skrtel is in poor form, just got dropped a few times and is more than likely doubting himself a bit. A strong shout from Reina is going to make him pause enough that Reina is now closer to the ball anyway. Covering the cross is the correct option at that point.

I think an in form and confident Skrtel just sprints to that ball and lumps it out along with Augero.

we are on the up big time and for a long periods especially last season found us unwatchable, boring playing like a mid table team with no direction. Br has a long way to go to be truly proven, but we now have some value in squad, downing, Enrique, and Henderson could not have been given away in September. We also have got ridden of nearly all of our overpaid ageing players. Fsg deserve nothing but praise for investing in kk with rash buys and awful advise. To get this house in order. These are the sort of foundations put down by man united 20 years ago. The only negative thing to come out is the transfer policy on age, as its proven uou need a good mix but these owners are smart and they will figure it out. Top 4 next year

Love the positive post. I'm with you on everything but I haven't given up hope for our push for 4th this year. I understand it's unlikely but we should be able to pick up a good amount of points before it's all said and done.
