Not sure why everyone keeps griping about Rodgers and how terrible our transfer have been in the past. Rodgers will not pay more than his what he believes to be correct value. We won't be paying 35m, 20m, 18m etc on average players anymore. More negotiating, value on wages will bring stability. When man citys owners get bored there as screwed as will chelsea. No solid foundation. Fsg are here for the long haul.

Thankyou!!
Ruben

Don't hold your breath.

4 signings plus allen and the loan.
Hmmm how about:
Walcott,
Sinclair,
Dempsey,
Amorebieta,
Allen,
And higuain on loan?

Obviously with agger leaving, Carroll out on loan or sold. To pay for the new signings.

Pepe
Johnson-skrtle-amorebieta-Enrique
Lucas
Allen-gerrard
Wallcot-higuain-Suarez

I'm clutching at straws a bit (a lot) as I didn't expect us to be bringing in so many.
The above team would be brilliant though, with Dempsey and borini on the bench or being rotated, and Henderson, coates and Sinclair getting developed.

MIKEY

Why would Higuain leave the best club in the world to join Liverpool? OH SO FUNNY!

Because real want cavani and want rid of higuain to make way for him.
I know it's optimistic but you never know.

MIKEY

The same reason a rival supporter is on the liverpool page

BADGER

I think Higuian will leave, but ManC and Chelski will be very keen with huge wages. I think Real would prefer a sale to loan.

Thats funny Badge, i like it lol.

I love Agger as much as the next LFC supporter, he is the brains of our defence and a superb player, but he is out so often with injury, £20m would be a good price for him. Maybe Kelly will get regular starts? In my opinion a future LFC captain. Will be gutted when/if Agger does go, but life goes on doesn't it, hopefully it will be to a team in another league and not City.

Finnaly some sense is starting to show!
Ruben

Will city play so much for a injured player maybe not

Who cares how much they play him?

Haha, I just read the funniest transfer news on the telegraph sight:

Liverpool have made £12.5m offer for 21-year-old Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez. (Standard)

Liverpool agree £30m deal for Brazil's Lucas Moura, and are looking to press ahead with their move for Robin van Persie.

Now in wondering if the Ramirez deal is true cos of the nonsense they post

It said Red Devils not Liverpool, refering to the Mancs, who are closing in on RVP and Moura (apparantly).

Jolly Red

I just read that, but when I clicked on the link, it was a Man Utd story! Which makes more sense given their reported interest in Moura and RVP.

Raised my hopes and dashed them in 3 ish seconds

Joe

Lol imagine this actually happens :p

sabe3

They meant man u not lfc for Lucas moura and rvp

hi eds just wondering now that great britain an uruguary are out of the olympics when do are players return to us are they having a few weeks break b4 being available or are they available to us now thanx and great work to all the eds this site is amazing {Ed002's Note - The Uruguay players will be back tomorrow or Tuesday and the GB players perhaps Wednesday. I doubt they will play Thursday.}

05 Aug 2012 23:00:51
hello just wondering how much money liverpool got for Aquilani? thanks

lfcynwa

We got a million for each positive thing he did for us. In other words, we had to pay to get rid of him.

05 Aug 2012 22:47:47
So 6 new players then. Seems Agger and Carroll will be off for about 40m which will be spent on these players. I'm happy with that as long as we get a decent replacement for Agger and sign attacking players.

BthekingB

05 Aug 2012 22:46:32
I can't understand it. Dempsey is a good player. Just pay the money that Fulham want and sign him. Our transfer policy is ridiculous.

Better than last years no? better than paying inflated prices for average players no?
Ruben

05 Aug 2012 22:46:18
Am so proud to be a jamaican today and liverpool fans hope I wish liverpool did have a winger with the speed like bolt wonder if our very little jamaican born sterling could be a gold medalist in the next couple of year just joking but he could be our next john barnes

Usain Bolt is a united supporter.

Usain Bolt would be a better signing than TW. They both run fast and neither's a world class soccer player.

05 Aug 2012 22:43:54
i hope im proved wrong if he does leave but i just feel that agger's quality is irreplacable for us with our club in its current position. CLR

Irreplaceable? if you ask me he is out injured too often and the money can be used to buy a replacement. yes he is top notch but look at all of the greats who have been replaced in our clubs history and you will see that no-one is irreplacable, except maybe messi.
derryred

Agreed derry, big Hypia was irreplaceable but then Agger came along.

05 Aug 2012 22:41:49
any idea what the going rate for walcott would be around? Would have him for the right price of course. would suit rodgers style of play as he would probably play the scott sinclair role. thanks

Danny

Walcott is gonna win us the league yeah!

I'd guess about 50p because he's utterly dreadful!

05 Aug 2012 22:40:02
Joe Allen, why would you want to join a midfield that consists of the coward that is Charlie Adam? The man that tried to do me (in a bad way) twice. I'm glad I didn't play with you at the Olympics, I'm glad I was "injured". Haha

Gareth Bale

Funny

sabe3

Most pointless post i've read today.
derryred

Oh, hey gareth

Let me explain the real reasons. I wanted to join a club that has history, a good manager, and a club where no player refuses to play or "skip" a preason tour. See Gary mate, I enjoy the game of football, not money. I like having stability in my ranks and a owner who isn't cash strapped.

Sincerely,

Joseph Allen

05 Aug 2012 22:31:29
Really hope we don't sell Agger. Though £20 million would be a tidy sum for an injury prone centre back. I rate him highly though and will be sad to see him go.

However getting to the point here, if Agger is to be sold then we should sell Skrtel. He is only half the defender when he is not partnered by Agger. Sell Skretl now when his value is high, because it will never be as high again.

KMK

His value isn't high.

05 Aug 2012 22:26:23
What is Rodgers problem? Does he realise he's at a big club now? Borini? Exciting? Dont make me laugh. I think its fair to say that Agger and Suarez will leave and to be honest i cant blame them, We've just been getting worst the last few seasons and last season was the worst. Its obvious Agger and suarez would rather better themselves and their careers. They are 2 top players and need to be in the Champions League and fighting for titles and playing in top teams. My point is, When they leave, Are we suppost to be happy with Fabio Borini and Ashley Williams? Dont even get me started on Joe Allen. He's worth nowhere near 15m. He was shocking in the olympics.

Why do we always overpay for shocking players? Keane 20m Aquilani 18m Carroll 35m Downing 18m Henderson 20m Borini 11m Coates 7m etc. All big amounts of money and all absolutely terrible players.

Rodgers wont last 2 months if he doesnt sort things out soon. Pre-Season has me thinking that this season will unbelieveably be even worse than last season.

Mark

Loooooooool did you just say Borini and Coates are overpriced and furthermore terrible players? LOL get Outta here!

Finding it hard to disagree with much of this sadly. Looking at those signings we really must have a monkey running our financial accounts

Borini played 1 competitive game for us, Coates is young, decent and 7m is nothing!
Who the hell are you to judge, get behind the team

Hold your Horses Mark. BR definetly added borini as the 3rd striker. Remember, last season we were short on strikers!

Agger is not going anywhere but if a big offer comes in, there may be a change of heart. Its rather awkward that you believe whatever the media is reporting (Ashley Williams etc)

Give BR and the others a chance. YNWA

SaVior

Mark you prat borini hasn't even played a league game yet so hush up. As for Coates how is he s***e? Ret of the world must see something you don't fella!

If your happy and you know it clap your hands. Redevon

Are you for real or just on here to take the pis how can you say all this before a ball had been kicked in the epl give BR he's building for the future and giving the club stability and I don't know how you can criticise borini just yet, but anyways go hind under ya bridge ya trol

Red man

Your way off the Mark , we will be much , much better than you think .
redforever

Borini may be better than you think he is, well put it this way, he is a poor mans diamanti.

Well would you bring your mates in, someone you know, or would you look at the top 10 list and think i can't afford them.

Or roll a dice and pick another Andy Carroll. someone who ends up flopping it.

First of all you dont have a clue who Rodgers is after. Dont beleive everything you read, no one with of any note has suggested we will go for Ashley Williams apart from lazy jurno's. The Ed's have already stated that Amorebieta is a high priority if either Agger or Skrtel are sold. As supporters we have to beleive in Rodgers and his methods and get behind his signings. I beleive Allen will be a good signing, 15 million is alot but he is proven in england and while I slightly agree with you that he hasnt been amazing for GB he has been better than Arsenals and United's great midfield hopes.

The season hasnt even begun and all the plastic supporters are mouthing off about how bad we are going to be. Give Rodgers a chance, at the very least until the end of the season, he wants us to play the right way and I am sure will have players in mind to take the club forward.

Sad to say, But i completely agree with this.

I would really like to disagree with Mark's post, but cannot.
The reality of the situation speaks for itself.
The players know what is going on, who can blame them for wanting to leave, they have their careers to think about.
FSG, brought in an unproven manager who is not making the right noises.
The 'Beancounters' are running the show. An accountant knows the price of everything and the value of nowt.
FSG have lost interest, it's not their sport afterall. They have discovered that to be successful in football, very deep pockets are needed.
America's economy has its problems and they are feeling it.
They have forgotten that to make money you have to spend it. Accountants will hate that.
Rafa's tenure will be seen as a golden period.
Welcome to the world of the also-rans.
I am not happy but that is today's real world.

Red Drum

We will be fighting for relegation at this point

I like Joe Allen, i thought he had nice feet, technical player, very simple and clean play, he does it all in a simple way.

maybe we need someone who can just go in a go it in a attacking way. Team GB played well, moved the ball well from the midfield. we could use allen

Swansea have three players that help them play the right way..

Fabio Borini - nice link player that keeps the ball moving.
Gylfi Sigurdsson
Nathan Dyer (winger
Scot Sinclair - Wing player, nice
Joe Allen - simple player who keeps the ball moving in a attacking way
Ashely Williams - gets temp - passes
Voom - solid keeper- lots of saves

I think i get what BR is trying to go. We have the big named stars and all the quality in the world, but we need water carries, mirror players.

People who mirror other peoples performance, they wont do anything amazing, but they can up their game if they played next to gerrard, or so on.

I think Fabio Borini will look good next to Luis Suarez.

I still think we need a Defensive midfielder at the moment. Someone good.

We are not worthy of your support. Perhaps you should join a more deserving group of supporters like the Chavs, Mancs or Spuds fans.

Why are some replies so aggressive? It's an opinion. He still supports the team, why have a go at him with the few words you know? Sadly I have to agree Mark, but not to the same extent. We will do alright and get better hopefully. Allen and Borini are average, money wasted.

The true thoughts and opinions of the supporters will be voiced at ANFIELD in due course. The plastics/keyboard warriors can do one!

We fans should support rodgers even if he decides selling our best players and replace them with swansea players or decides changing our crest coz he is our manager. If Shanks could change our colour then why not rodgers. If he thinks black and white kit will suit us more then red then be it.

I 100% support rodgers

Rodgers for life

No one is bigger than the club.

Support or not wish him good luck as he is our boss.

05 Aug 2012 22:20:12
I've read a lot on here recently from some posters who are being overly pessimistic and from others who have dared to suggest that they could stop supporting our great club.
To counter this I'd like to offer a couple of quotes from 2 legendary men:

"For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else" - Winston Churchill

"Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless, who strove and worried so that others could share the glory, and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say, 'We're Liverpool." - Bill Shankly

Chris in Tamworth

Stop living in the past, Besides, Words spoke decades ago wont help us today. Rodgers speaks a good game but words dont win games or titles. he's too small time. i give him 2 months and we'll be back to square 1. Greg

Oh Greg youre a sour git. Chris is spreading the love and you have to piss on his fire. I think the Eds need to create a new page for posters like Greg called The Dark Corner where they can moan and snivel about how crummy life is because we didn't sign Arda Turan.....the rest of us are looking forward to a new season with the mighty Liverpool. And it's gonna be good.

cozinoz

Sensible post as ever Chris. YNWA.
Greg, I assume you're a troll. If not, you really need to follow the game a. Bit more before coming out with the utterly embarrassing 'too small time nonsense.' it's pointless refuting your argument, and would be a waste of my time and yours. Have you ever thought of holding your breath and counting to 600 very slowly? Try it, and let me know how you get on....

BigBadBen

"If you won't support us when we lose or draw, then don't support us when we win"
Bill Shankly

derryred

Good idea Cozinoz, Eds make it so. All for balanced debate but too much negativity borne of lack of intellect, experience and knowledge of the game on the site these days. Banish the grumps to a moaning section and let them whine to their hearts content. About time the site was reclaimed by the genuine fan not the fair weather glory hunters.

Trolls to be shunned in the dark corner!

I give Greg two months till he's shouting "BR for life!" from the rooftops and kissing his picture, stroking it tenderly while he nods off to sleep.

It would be an interesting experiment to have 2 Liverpool pages - one for the glass half empties and one for the glass half fulls. My guess is that the positive page would continue to be as busy as this but the negative would die a slow death as the trolls would find it worthless and the 'realist fans' would give up without someone to depress.
Bring on the new season - cant wait - lets give the other teams a good Rodgering!!

05 Aug 2012 21:49:43
Clint Dempsey is very versatile player-any attacking position. Would be great addition to squad- proven goal scorer. It would be ashame if he went to Roma for 9-10mill. IMO he's worth it and we should buy even at that price. There is no risk w him.

05 Aug 2012 21:45:31
No matter how good agger (when fit) 20 million + we should take that straight away, i honestly feel that as long as we get a good replacement (Amorebieta) then I'm fine with that; the only time it would be a problem is if we lose both Agger & Skrtel.Keep the faith!
Ruben

Skrtel is by far easier to replace if you ask me.
derryred

05 Aug 2012 21:43:41
I think we are all in agreement that we would like the club to cash in on the following. Question is what amount would we in everyone opinion recoup from selling.

1. Carroll. My guess 15-20 million.
2. Spearing. My guess 2-4 million.
3. Eccleston. My guess 1-3 million.
4. Adam. My guess 4-7 million.
5. Downing. My guess 8-12 million.

My estimates would give us in the region of 30-46 million. Hopefully it would be the higher end of the scale. Even at the lower end of the scale I would still try and recoup this, so we can sign a higher calibure of player.

We sadly lack creativity and goal threat so we need players of true ability who will cost roughly 15-20 a go.

Jonesred

I wouldn't mind spending all of that on munian.

ri red

Downing won't leave. Agger could sadly but we can replace.

05 Aug 2012 21:39:12
Liverpool is a fallen Giant I don't know why fans think we have right to be in top4. Will take another 20 years to win EPL I can't imagine liverpool were 18 where manchester were 6 now manchester are 19 and liverpool are still stuck I mean stuck 18. The answer is we are still rebuilding . One day we are going to find ourselves religated and the answer will be we are still rebuilding what a joke our club has turned. Shanks and Paisley must be turning on their grave. Now fans are happy with mediocrity some say we should sell our best players and replace them.

Liverpool isn't a fallen giant, Liverpool are a sleeping giant. And under Rodgers we will awake and take back our perch as Champions. It won't happen this season but given time it will happen. Be patient.
KiwiRed

Which fans are happy with mediocrity? Sorry you've got small-penis syndrome and are having difficulty coping with a cup, a final and europe. Maybe supporting Citeh, Madrid or Chavski would make you feel better about your junk.

05 Aug 2012 22:01:18
Christ on a bike......if what Macca has just said is right we are in for a barrage on signings with Agger offski. Looking forward to the next couple of weeks now.

Just hoping there will be some world class talent in the mix.

05 Aug 2012 21:48:24
Gutted to hear Agger will be leaving. He is one of my favourite players and I think he is our best defender regardless of the injuries. Hopefully the £20m plus will be spent wisely but I'm still disappointed to lose one of our most talented footballers, not just in defence but also skilfully. I think he would have fitted BR's system perfectly.

On another note, I am eager to see who the 4 players we are interested in might be, as well as the mystery loan star. -Allen, Dempsey and who could be the other two potential signings?

We may lose some players but if BR invests well it could be a good season, although I think 4th spot will be a stretch. We shall see, let me know your thoughts.

RedSam

It says after Allen and a loan they are working on 4 more haha so you have even more to be excited about than you thought

I too will be disappointed but he's averaged 26 games in his lfc career 20 million + is alot of money for a defender but only if its re-invested. At least your not ranting and raving like some of the other persons
Ruben

05 Aug 2012 21:40:35
BR stated that he thought that a couple of moves would kick off a whole series of player moves both in and out. I have gone through the posts here and news articles combined with LFC's change in focus to youth and pass-n-move in a 4-3-3 system and here is what I think we are waiting on and which players we may go for in the market.

I feel confident that the players that the boss is talking about moving on prior to kicking off the series of moves are Pepe Reina and Glen Johnson/Andy Carroll (I do not agree with the AC move but it is what it is). I am going to also assume that Joe Allen is pretty much locked in and would therefore shut down anymore moves for the 3 midfielders.

First is to replace Pepe and I believe that it will be Jack Butland if Birmingham City will take a reasonable fee. I think that we will move hard for a young left back (Aly Cissokho - probable, Yuto Nagatomo - hopeful) and right back (Gregory van der Wiel – 1 year on contract has stated that he may leave Ajax). I do not think BR will want to lose Agger or Skrtel but he has control over incoming transfers but the outgoing transfers are done by committee apparently and a silly offer maybe accepted but I hope not.

The forward three Luis Suarez, Fabio Borini, Stewart Downing, Raheem Sterling, Adam Morgan, and Joe Cole out of these six only Luis Suarez looks to be a lock for every game he is fit to play in. I think that the "Loan Signing" will be one of the forward three and I believe that Thomas Muller is a realistic option as either the "loan player" or outright purchase. That is far as I am going to go with this exercise. Thanks for going through it and feedback including critical is welcome.

Coley

Butland

Van der Wiel Skrtel Agger Cissokho/Nagatomo

Gerrard Lucas

Allen/Henderson

Muller Borini/? Suarez

{Ed049's Note - Here is your post Coley.}

Wow. I really want some of what you've been smoking.

Butland hasn't played for Brum yet so couldn't replace Reina now. Muller is not a target either.

Kenny's Buy.
Arda Turan 7m NO. Downing £20m Yes.
Rodgers's Buy.
Rondon 10m Don't know about him. Borini £12m Yes.
Rondon score 20 Goal last yer. Borini not even start all the match for Roma.

go ahed few guys will abuse me for that. but ask in your heart that this guy is a class and sale in 10m. Our manegiment may don't even know about him.

red-don {Ed002's Note - Liverpool enquired after Rondon and were no doubt quoted 20M euro as were Chelsea and Spurs.}

The news was in the net that Kazan bid for Rondon 10m euro. why not we weak up and try for a bid. as per I know he is in our target list. don't stop flow your target until thta's gone. we miss few like this way. Honda want to join us. Turan did the same. both of them far batter player then we have in squad now. and far good price.

r-r

On the face of it Rondon looks a good buy but I'm told he's not that polished and at 15-20m he's a big risk.

In other words he's raw.

Just wondering, with Fenways lack of enormous wealth(though thank them for saving us)After D.I.C's financial woes, would Mr.Maktoum still invest somehow? ie.maybe stadia wise? As he was heading D.I.C initial bid all them years back. Then enquired with own team, and is believed to be a Red.Ok H and G,abused him.But Henry and Werner seem honourable enough.

Lmao beggers can get arrested you know

Would imagine that if anyone wealthy enough approached FSG, shares could likely be bought. I don't know many companies that would turn down cash for a share in possible proceeds.

Eds, seen today that we are being linked with Ricardo Quaresma. Has always been a very good player but never settled at a club yet. He has stated he will leave Besiktas

What do you think that he may well be one of those loan signings Macca and BR talked about, with then a view to a permanent deal? It would definitely make sense I reckon {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers please.}

05 Aug 2012 20:46:28
Positions we need to strengthen in
Left back for competition for Enrique coz of his poor form a centre back if one of skrtle or agger go an attackive midfielder a goal keeper if reina decides to leave a attacking winger

A striker if Suarez leaves

And also a striker if Suarez leaves

Proflific striker! look at goals for-dohhhh

Vargas??

Only 4 million and can play left mid.

What about the main priority of buying a 20 goal a season striker.Without one we will not get Champions League again.

i've read a few times on here abbout how liverpool isn't a big club anymore. well liverpool is still the best club in england, we just don't have the best team at the minute. that will change. trust rodgers.
derryred

Quite right Derryred... too many getting confused by this. LFC due to global fanbase, rich history & the obvious connection to the city of Liverpool are a massive club. In terms of current footballing success perhaps not at our best it's safe to say. It's a bit like saying Glasgow Rangers are no longer a big club or Juventus a few years back. Your point is spot on.

Another deluded one

05 Aug 2012 20:39:10
Ed's if you aren't careful this site is going to become "Liverpool Pessimism"

I genuinely love this site but truly hate the amount of so called supporters on this site posting negative comments for no apparent reason other than the club aren't showing an interest in the 60 goal a season Brazilian winderkid that has just won them the title on championship manager!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, true supporters will stick by the club through thick and thin. True supporters will have the same frustrations as the rest of us regarding underperforming players BUT instead of coming onto a rumours website slating them, will continue to go to anfield week in week out and encourage them. True supporters will have their opinions about who the club should and shouldn't sign but will also respect the managers decisions.

So to be quite Frank....SUPPORT your team or go and find a glory supported team and leave this great club the f##k alone! Rant over!!

Andy

This man talks sense, best post in a long time

Ste

I hear you brother, never have I known so much negativity and simple ignorance. Our club could be like Rangers are know if it wasn't for the owners. How quickly people forget. If you want you team of over paid superstars don't worry, the next FIFA will be out in two months.
Keep calm and no matter what happens, support the club.
Andy the red

Well said that man!

Very true Andy, losing top players has always been a sore spots for fans but at the end of the day we haven't sold anyone yet and even if we did it's not the end of the world. We still attract a massive global following and we have the financial backing. Wait and see what Rodgers does as I'll be suprised if he doesn't take us to the Champions League.
Once we stabilise with the wages and get the maximum sponsorship we'll be in the best possible position for the future. I don't want to see massive signings when you can get players *almost* as good for less. It shows that we're clueless on the transfer side. Lets not just take a stab in the dark and buy big names but buy players that fit into the system. I'd rather have Joe Allen playing CM than Lionel Messi in the same position...

Hey Eds,

Do you think FSG would/could back Brenden the same as they backed Kenny? For example spending 20 million on 1 player.

Thanks

Thatracoonstolemybacon {Ed002's Note - I am sure £20M on one player would not be an issue - spending £20M on each of several would be. There are still sales to come and that will no dobt raise decent funds.}

Where has this rumour about a star loan signing came from?? {Ed002's Note - Macca mentioned it.}

I hope this week we finally see some incomings, but I think there will also be some outgoings too.

The outs will be from.

Carroll 20 million (depending on the deal agreed).
Adam 5-7 million.
Downing 8-12 million.
Eccleston 1-3 million.
Spearing 2-4 million.

Not all will go, but I hope they are by the end of the window. We should be bringing in.

Gaitan 14-16 million.
Ramirez 14-16 million.
Vargas 4 million.
Afellay 4-7 million.

Surely we will sign one of these this week?

Jonesred

Downing won't leave.

I cannot see us buying Vargas at his age with fitness problems.

Been supporting liverpool since the 60's I will support the team and manager as long as they give their all. So far I like the sound of Brendan and the way he conducts himself. My main concern is does he have a plan B, I have read a lot of stuff about how he likes to set his team to play a certain way and control the game by keeping the ball. We saw how that can be beaten last season in the CL games with barca and chelsea, I would like to see him keeping Andy and having options, whoever remains flexible generally comes through. I read a poster who said games are not won with a dossier but with goals, BR seems a deep thinker lets just hope he is also clever enough to think outside a rigid approach and not be too proud to admit it is not working and try a change of tactic. Good luck and lets get behind the redmen
Stokiescouse

Firstly Chelsea didn't stop Barca per say, Barca still made plenty of chances but failed to take them. Secondly if we have the odd game when somebody parks the bus and we draw who cares? Not everyone plays like that. Finally why would you want a £35mil benchwarmer just incase you wanted to play hoof ball, even if you wanted this you could promote the taller Ngoo from the academy and he still has some ability with the ball at his feet unlike Andy.

Be more than happy with plan a. You mention games are won by goals how does Andy eeyore Carroll help are goal tally? Barca deserved to win. We need to get rid of Carroll and get one or two players who can actually score goals fro the front three. Redevon

Agree with you mate that plan B is pretty important. but the problem with carroll is will he fit into plan A which we will be playing the most? and regarding barca they over do the passing game. they are a team full of players who like passing a lot. last season swansea were a bit more direct. hopefully that will be our approach as well. our test again will be teams like stoke and wba

oldmonk

The whole point I think of Brendan's footy is to be patient and wait for opportunities and have faith that a gaps will appear through opposition being worn down from not having the ball so I think having a plan b would contradict this philosophy. I do like Andy Carroll and I'm gutted for him to be honest he's a great prospect and would/will be a killer in another squad. Hope he stays and it works out though
Owenll

Good post Mate.
If you read my past posts I've been saying that we need to keep AC.
BR should give him every chance......he's also better than a Plan B!
2009 Captain

You need to have a Plan A that is 100% solid before worrying about Plan B...

Why have a 15-20M asset sitting on the bench constantly on the off chance Plan A didn't work? Surely you would be better off enhancing Plan A instead? Unless you're City or the like, then you can afford to do so.

RDL

Youse are a long way short of executing plan A nevermind plan B,it is quite funny when i read Liverpool fans comparing their new style of play to barca,s style,i think aiming for swansea style would be more appropriate then in a few years try to emulate arsenal cause at the minute you dont have any style of football lmao day dreamers!

At least we have a plan, what's your team anonymous and what's your plan? Fair play to FSG for giving it a go. Lets see if you have the bottle to reply? L19 Red

It won't take time for rodgers to walk alone at anfield. Remember fans are tired of mediocrity it has proved in few years when things go wrong fans start calling manager to be sacked or they boycott going to anfield. Will be intresting to see rodgers fate.

I thinks its a bit early to be talkin about br being sacked as the league hasn even started yet. we played one competitive match so far and we won.i know it wasn mind blowing football but we won and didn conseed. stop being so negative and get behind br and u never no we might we a few more.

i think we should go for adebayor it would give us a different option with two big front men adebayor/carroll
dempesy/suarez and borini
dannybhoy

Am I the only supporter who shudders at the prospect of Adebayor in a Liverpool shirt? The way he conducted himself in the lead up to leaving Arsenal and the season after was disgraceful and embarassing - he's also a complete mercenary. While I accept he's a good striker in my view he's not the kind of player to uphold the values of the club. BR also mentioned loan signings would be from abroad.

No No a thousand times NO.We would not pay the sort of money he wants anyhow.

The point is Rodgers doesn't want big men! Especially one whos ponytail has more movement than himself and one money-grabbing so and so!

Andy Carroll - £35m
Yohan Cabaye, Cheik Tiote, Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Davide Santon, Hatem BenArfa, = £25m ha

Are you still going on about this? You tool!

Just a shame your not a big enough club to hold on to them hey lol!... whats the phrase 'away the lads'!

Bigger wage bill though,ha.

All in the past mate just like our 5 European cups and 18 leagues compared to your.....??

Kopping a feel, I'm sure Ronaldinho, Villa, Fabregas, Sanchez and Ibrahimovic (40 summat euros +Eto, eh? were bargains, weren't they?

Additionally, Barca's spine has been their youth products: Messi, Xavi and Iniesta.
That notwithstanding, they've forked out considerable outlays on who players who truly make the difference (Ronaldinho, Sanchez, Villa).

The dissimilarity with City is that the aforegoing had to build a whole new team, so had to spend more acquiring more.
Otherwise, both aren't at all too dissimilar cash-wise: they pay high fees for the right quality, regardless where the money comes from.

Sure, Sterling, Suso and Coady may one day be our own Messi and Iniesta.
But still that won't be enough. You won't always produce fine youth, so may have to dig deep in pockets and delve into the market, as Barca have always done and perhaps United are about to do with Lucas Moura.

City paid over 40m euros for Aguero, he won them the title. Atletico spent about the same amount on Falcao, he won them Europa on top of the overall devasting impact.

As much as the likes of Allen and Dempsey are good players, can they take this club to the next level?
This inclination to rather buy 2/3 average players instead of just a single world class one is what's caused us big time in years not too gone-by.

I bet we'll acquire Dempsey, Allen, Sinclaire for up to £25m, money that could get us a, say, Gaston, a player with exceptional impact who could take us a level up.

Baie dankie

ASHLEY WILLIAMS to replace DAN AGGER if he leaves

some team last year,small-time manager with small
time ambitions,FSG wake-up and smell the coffee
your ideas of competing on the cheap will not work,
if you want to take us back to the top start
competing like a big club,FSG if you can't build a
new ground or compete for players at the top end
then hand over to someone who can,as each day goes by we fall further and further and further

Auntie Annie- and who would this mystery savior with gigantic pockets be? I'm pretty sure if someone offered FSG say 600M they'd take it in a heartbeat just to save themselves grief if nothing else.

It's very easy to say 'FSG out, big money owners in' but I don't see anyone chomping at the bit to buy the club.

There was money to spend but they trusted Kenny too much and he blew it all on sh**e.

You just answered your own question

Unfortunately it's because Kenny spent so much badly

Read your post again, you've answered your own question!

Jimbo.

Cuz kenny emptied the pockets?

Because Kenny messed thing's up with his transfer's!

I disagree.

There is no way we overspent on all players..I would say on Carroll and Downing we did spend more...

But as Ed has said, he had to leave because they had promised the sky to the owners...

I still believe we bought fantastically well last year apart from Downing....All of them will go on to become very good players....

Can't wait to see Allen get booed onto Anfield for the first time. Surely that will help the young lad's confidence!

Look, BR has by now see how our current squad trains and what their capabilities are (and aren't). He's obviously quite familiar with Allen as well. If he thinks Allen is worth it and capable of improving our team, then you have to think he has some idea that this is true?

My problem is not with buying allen but paying £15 mil for him, simply because for that price you can pick a much better player. If we bought him for £5 mil and sold adam and spearing, wouldnt be so bad. Also just to let you all know in advance, henderson will never make it At lfc.:) He will never be an alonso, nor will he be a mascherano and he certainly will never replace gerrard shelvey has more chance of that and he cost £1 mil. I would say sell henderson, downing, adam and carroll because none of them offer an improvement to us and there prices will only go down after another season. RedTurk

Match behind closed doors- LFC 2-1 Rochdale Johnson and Ecclestone with the goals. I think ED002 is right- it got called off because 'Reece Gray' was injured. My mate told me this, and a couple of hours Jose Enrique and Lucas Leiva both said on Twitter they wished Reece Gray a speedy recovery.

There is alot of debate on this site some fans can't except we are no more a big club we are lucky to have history thanks to shanks and paisley apart from our wonderful history we have been mediocre for more then 20 years and some clubs have already peep us in modern football.
Nothing will change moaning or whining the reality is we can't compete with big clubs anymore in few years time fans will see man city vs man united as the biggest game in epl rather then liverpool.
In modern football money talks bulsh*t walks at the moment we are like bulsh*t in front of teams who can spend. So fans we need to calm down and except where we are once we start to except will be easy for you I and eds thanks

Aside from our champions league title in 2005, our carling cups, our fa cups, our super cup etc etc. get back to the blue side! lincoln red

Of course we're a big club you person. Look at the trophies we've won in the last 20 years. Hardly mediocre.

^ HEY? we need to accept that we're not a big club anymore? We're LFC and will always be a big club! A couple of season's ago under Hick's and Gillet we we're challenging for the leaguewhich we came second and the CL which we got knocked out in the quarter's during that period did that stop the march'es and the demo's against itchy and scratchy? No! So if FSG deviate from their promise of restoring LFC to greatness do you think we as LFC fan's will allow us to be a midtable side? i think not!

Can I just say something if u believe money talks go nd support city or Chelsea . I support Liverpool now nd forever who knows what might happen in future. We may never reach same heights we had in 70s nd 80s but I will never even think about supporting another team..I rather die in hope that we will win pl then just do Chelsea nd city nd buy our way to top...
Harry oldbury

That message is one i disagree with leighton7

Funny u say we look bulls*** to good teams when we always play well against good teams its the bad teams we lose against

How can you call yourself a LFC fan?

Fans should take out tinted glasses you will see in 20 years liverpool have only won one major trophy(champions league) carling cups and Fa cups are useless as our owners have said carling and fa cups are not success. In 21 years club who have won major trophy and I mean major trophys are
Manchester united- 12 epl titles and 2 champions league

Arsenal- 4 epl titles

Chelsea- 3 epl titles and 1 champions league

Liverpool - 1 champions league

Mancester city- 1 epl title

What about blackburn?

A little history lesson for some of you. Most of Shankly and Paisley signings Which include Hughes Keegan CLemence Neal MCdermott R kennedy Hansen Nicol most under21 and all under the age of 23.Even Kenny and Souness were mid 20s.They never bought the superstar they just picked players that wanted to win things.

Nice history lesson - but unfortunately that was when football was about playing football - it's now about how much can I get paid.
Sigurdsson went to Spurs for money.
Powell went to Utd for money, because he isn't going to play much there.
- and let's be honest 99% of British players, when compared skill wise to the continentals, are at best average

John B

We picked..caroll hendo,..what did we win...and there are many young players...oscar, lucas moura, neymar...can we pick them too??

We got the players no one else wanted.

The carling cup.
AnfieldUSA

More history lessons, foundations take time to put down.Shanklys great side of the 60's was ageing.Apart from introducing a 20yr old young lad Called Hughes Shanks stuck by the old guard. The breaking point came with an 1970 FA cup tie defeat at Watford.Shanks introduced young players.Clemence,Lindsey,Toshack,Hall and Heighway.Hall came from the reserves the rest were signed from lower leagues.
Shanks gave Geoff Twentyman Chief scout(His greatest signing)instruction to get them young so I can mould them into what I want.It took shanks 2 seasons of Knocking at the door with his new young side with further Additions Keegan, Cormack, Thompson, the side took off and the rest his history.Liverpools transfer policy didn't change.Paisley took over and he learnt from Shanks mistake in letting the team age,so he made 2 to 3 signings a season. They all had the same profile young lads with heart and a hunger to win trophies.Neal, Mcdermott, Hansen,Nicol, Whelan, Rush.Kenny made the mistake in the late 80's of letting the squad age like shanks did in the late 60s.His signings became players in there peak, rather than moulding the youngsters.Souness and especially Roy Evans tried to bring the old ways back, but in my opinion he wasn't given the time.Let's give Brendan the time to build a team that will last.It took the great shanks 3 seasons.

Just read Ray Burmeisters post, and while I can't disagree about being envious of the spending power of City and Chelsea, the rest is of it is a load of crap. If Ambramovich or Mansour decide that their now bored of football, those two clubs will cease to exist, they simply wouldn't survive, and all of their fans would have no club to support. Look at what has happened this season with Malaga. A sugar daddy is great if you are lucky enough to find one, but if not its not the end of the world.

I forgot about Anelka at Liverpool as well! Definitely worth looking at a loan if it's the right player!

Have they gone anywhere? no!

Once again you must realise the media control and try to disrupt everything. No-one has gone anywhere and more than likely no-one will. If they do so what.

For example Torres left and we got Suarez. I'd have liked to have had them both but hey the passion and commitment of Suarez is exactly what we need.

I don't think you understand anywhere near well enough how 'buisness' works to make comments on it. {Ed002's Note - What he is missing is that Liverpool make nothing from teh shirt sales. They make nothing from tour tickets because they are paid a fixed amount for playing the games. As you say he does not understand.}

Why do ppl think that the moaners on this site are kids? They dont care enough to be that pissed off with the way the club is being run yet. i remember when i was a kid and used to learn about transfers after bumping into a friend who would tell me. Then i would get excited, i wouldnt start getting angry like these people.

It is the Fifa 12 mentallity that suggests many are kids. That and all of this information without being able to put a context around it i.e. taking paper talk as factual, reality of running a business, making statements about no longer being a big club. All of this kind of stuff suggests that posters havent been around long enough to understand information over time and how to apply it. And thus, they get the sulks on. Maybe I am wrong but that would be my guess as to why people suggest many of the moaners are young.

Why don't all you negative fans shut the f*** up give BR a chance call yourself fans it's a joke if you all know as much as you think you do why don't you go into management and do your talking on the pitch at least BR has the balls it takes for the task get off his back

Lets see if your saying that after 2-3 months into the season when were about 12th or even worse, rodgers is a crap manager and took over swansea when most off the players were allready there, we have the right to voice are worries as fans like me spend loads of money every season watching us, am so concerned for this season and want Rafa back asap and yes he made some signings that never worked but he also made some of the best signings we had in 20 years that got us in champs league. All you fans that support brendan havent a clue what he is going to do to us, he will truely destroy this club. ASHY

And what do you think Rafa would do with the budget constraints BR is operating under? He's not a bad guy, but Rafa and 'budget' don't exactly go hand in hand.

And let's see if you're saying any of that if we're in or close to the top 4 in 2-3 months.

- Something Red -

So ashy has just told us he doesn't support BR which is exactly the type of fan we don't need! I agree that you have the right to voice your opinions but we can't keep solving our problems by going back to our old managers! Rogers hasn't even played a game with his full squad and people are saying he's going to destroy the club?! Get a grip and support the club!

Liverpool were already in the champions league when Rafa arrived..

Most of the players who won the champions league were there before Benitez so that kicks ashy's argument about rogers time at Swansea out doesn't it?

Thats the trouble lad i do support this club and spend about 6,000 a season travelling everywere to watch my team, am 42 and this is the first i have ever gone into a season and thought omg we could actually finish in the bottom 10, teams like newcastle, spurs and even everton are becoming better teams than us, this is how sad we have become we are made up we won the carling cup omg the carling cup we truelly are becoming a nothing club and can any fan out there truely think any top players would want to come to us { dont think so }. ASHY

There will be a crisis sometime at end of November. At least ASHY understands this.
All the hard work at Swansea was done by Martinez.

There is nothing to suggest that Rodgers has the power of personality or real football wisdom to make improvements.

He is already making mistakes and the season hasn't even started.

If your face don't fit, you're f**ked.

That is the message the players are getting.
Small man. Big ego.

Red Drum.

F***in idiots. Bin your season ticket lad. What's the point, u written us off anyways.
Tommy

Wat mistakes has he made??

Hello Ed's, I'm a bit gutted that Daniel Aggers departure is imminent as I won't be able to sing my Daniel Agger song any more, it goes like this..... Agger do do do put the ball into the net Agger do do do put the ball into the net, to the left to the right bring the keeper to his knees, that's another goal for Liverpool FC

Every cloud has a silver lining.

JRG

Agger's departure is imminent?

Since when?

Something has been really baffling me lately,so i thought id ask,i know im going to open the floodgates but ive just got to know, its the identity of our new club mascot thats got me puzzled, ive got me own thoughts as to who it could be,but itd be purely a guess,so do us a favour and release the name of the caped crusador,i reckon its jay spearings hiding place for this season when it all starts to go pear shaped and people are baying for his blood lol.well am i right.

NO. Spearing would have to wear 1970s platform shoes to be tall enough to get into that Mighty Red suit mate.

We really need to give BR a chance, in regards to whether or not he is trying to bring players from Swansea or not, I don't see what's wrong with this, Benitez brought players he knew from the Spanish league and as I remember there was a lot of negative voices about that, especially a young midfielder by the name of Alonso, not good enough for Liverpool, to lightweight etc etc, give it time you'll never walk alone isn't a catchy corporate slogan, it's because together we are stronger, time to show some faith

"Man City and Chelsea buy the title", "Man City and Chelsea have no integrity", "Man City and Chelsea have no tradition", "it's bad to chop and change managers", "we want to win the title, not buy" BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! YADA! YADA! YADA!

For f*cks sake, wake up. Romance as it were long died in football. It's business now. Adaptation and pragmatism rules.
You do what you have to do to succeed.

Chelsea have shelled out huge amounts on players and hired and fire a plethora of managers, with resounding success.
City did the same and look at them now.
It's done them no harm.
Those owners wanted success for their institutions and did what was necessary to get it.

Their didn't complain, certainly those clubs have grown in stature.
Meantime the 'paragons of virtue and integrity' are becoming more and more mediocre and desperate with each passing season, sinking deeper and deeper into our own mediocrity.

We preach 'tradition', 'history'. Well, who gives a monkeys about 'history'? You think a Moura, Neymar, Gotze, Subotic etc is going to snub City, Chelsea, to sign with us, because we a club with 'tradition and history'.
Then you're more delusional and out of touch with reality than I thought.

History today is as much use as a comb to a bald man.
Players look to the future, to clubs who actually have prospects, not has-beens whose USP's what they did 30 years ago.

Talented young players, on the one hand, watched United win 3 in the trot, Chelsea win the CL, City the PL and been greatly enamoured. On the other, they'd have seen the 'history' team flounder, flounder again, and flounder some more and be awfully less than impressed to the extent that they pity this ONCE mighty club.

We are a has-been, whose mantra is "the good times we once had" in lieu of "the good times we're having and are likely to continue".
We quote the past not for any other reason but consolation.

We can't come to terms with the reality that no more are amongst the elite, no more are we eating at top end of the table.
It's our coping mechanism.

How sad. We have to snap out of it. Forget the history, acknowledge our mediocrity and the superiority of our 'rivals' and start focusing on building ourselves anew.
Right now we're like the sixth best team.

Can the digs at Chelsea and City (even PSG). We've no authority to berate and disparage those clubs. It only shows us for the sad, bitter, desperate also-rans we've become over the years.

Baie dankie

Ray Burmeister

You should never forget your history and where you come from. It also defines you from the rest. I agree living in the past isn't the answer either. However, LFC is different from rest and true supporters appreciate that. How I wish patience and real support were app's you could download.

That is the best post ever on this site, very well written and to the point - the only way to get success and win things in professional sport, especially football is to " buy " trophies, and at the moment we haven't got the finances to do it.

I was lucky enough to see us come out of the 2nd Division, see the Shankly revolution, the great Paisley years - people forget how many times we broke the British transfer record to get continued success, and if KD had been given the money to buy again in 1991 as we were an ageing side, who knows what might have happened.

MONEY wins trophies nowadays, not coaching, managers etc - it's basically down to buying the best players.

John B

That is the biggest load of p**h I've read in ages mate and to be honest you defo are not a true fan of our mighty club. Don't you get the point we don't want to be like city or Chelsea cause we are Liverpool Football Club the most Sucessfull club to grace the EPL. You go on about two clubs that have no History and you moan cause we go on about our history, you ever thought that fans are proud of our clubs history you stupid we boy.

We lead the way in the 70's and 80's, we had our own style and every team wanted to be us and ever other fans hated the fact we were LFC, simples!. Success breads jelousy and I think your post rips to the teeth of a jealous fan of f*** knows what team.

Im loving life under Rodgers, and the new owners we have a plan and a vision that hasn't been there for many years. Its going take time and Yes us loyal fans have heared this many, many time's but think where we were not to long ago. I stay in Scotland and Im a celtic fan to and Ive witness what happens to clubs that out spend within there means RFC are in the 3rd divison and I can assure you I never wish that for my club.

So if that means re grouping and building for the future Im happy with that. cause we will rise again with foundations there to take the EPL by storm and dominate for years. So get behind the Club, the manager and the Players and unit agaisnt the media and the rest of the s*** that we have to put up with and get back to the top and Laugh our asses of at the rest of them.

We dont need and sheiks millions our any Oiligarch dirty money, We will do it the Liverpool way. Remember what YNWA stands for cause it makes me sick seeing so many vile and abusive mesg to other user and the eds on the site. So mate away and support City or PSG cause we dont need fans like you.

Scottybhoy 1888 YNWA

To John B and Ray,

How the hell then Montpeiller and BVB won their respective leagues if spending huge amounts of money is the be-all and end-all?

Those who stand for nothing will for anything.......jft96 crazy horse in heaven y.n.w.a

Barcelona trophys were bought by

Zlatan ibrahimovic(35 million plus eto with huge wages)
David villa(35 million with huge wages)
Mascharano(20 million with big wages)
Alex sanchez(30 million with big wages)
Cesc fabregas(30 million with big wages)
These players were bought by guardiola in his short time as manager I have not included the likes of alves etc etc as they were bought by previous manager
They have already buy jordi alba and neymar will follow soon you need to spend money in order to compete for trophys remember they are only competing with realmadrid not same as epl where they are so many teams to compete and that is net spend for barcelona`s transfer {Ed002's Note - It does not make the trophys were "bought". The total is pretty similar to what Dalglish spent. Clubs spend money, some spend more than others. Move on.}

I think Dortmund would disagree with you. Back to back titles and spending levels nowhere near that of Bayern. It can be done (although it is not easy).

Ed2 how can you say it was same as dalglish. Our net spend in transfer market is 30/35 million compare to barcelona. The money came from
Torres-5o million
Babel-7 million
Miereles-11 million
Ngong-4 million
Not from FSG pocket. {Ed001's Note - so who covered the massive losses the club made? Just give it up, you are making yourself look silly. You clearly have no idea and your whines are just pathetic and childish.}

Ed1 mate that post was for ed2. Before calling me childish or moaner you need to check your facts mate coz ed2 was comparing liverpools transfer with barcelona. {Ed002's Note - The Barcelona figures were given were gross of sales. Gross has to be compared to gross.}

thanks for the replys guys... i too like agger he is one hell of a player and sideshow i take your point on board ..as when fit agger is one of the best the is ..he gives the team more options..but i just think it's the right time to sell..it pains me to say this...i think last season losing agger was a bigger blow than losing lucas...for me r form really dipped after his injury..thanks again for the replys...dave d

We are going to end up in worst place than last season buying Swansea players wtf it's stupid Suarez be sold next it's joke sake him all ready bring bk rafa {Ed052's Note - No we are not - dont be silly!}

I agree bring back Benitez - he's unemployed, and I understand the tea lady needs an assistant.

John B

The club has fallen so far over the last 3 or 4 years and now when the support is needed now more than ever its no where to be found, instead we have impatient spoiled brats that bitch and moan because the club doesn't look like it does on their fifa game. Any new signing gets slated because he didn't cost £20m plus, then any potential signing is dismissed because its not Cavani. Seriously now is the time to stick by the club or choose another team to support.

Think what we all as fans need to realise Is the BBC gossip column talks a load of rubbish the majority of the time & not to believe into it , we already know Aggers reasons for not being involved in the squad and one is certainly not down to him engineering a move away from Anfield

Let's make it clear, the BBC simply shows a list of rumours as printed in the Newspapers.

05 Aug 2012 15:44:27
Although I've liked what I've seen and heard from BR initially, he has got me a little worried in that he is starting to show a slightly blinkered view of players IMO.
I would hope that any new manager would come in with a completely open mind on everyone, start with a clean slate.
He seems to have an "I either like you or I don't" attitude, and if he doesn't then they're out, with no chance of proving their worth. Prime example, AC. Agger seems to be next in his sights, although I accept he may have had his head turned.
And he seems to have Swansea players on a pedastal after their "achievements" last season. When all said and done, and with all the possession, they finished 13th, I think.
I hope I'm wrong but he seems to be trying to do too much too soon. He appears to have a particular idea in his head and he wants it overnight. We've got an ok squad that could live with most, and did do most of last season, but had some very bad luck. Why not work with them, add to it a little, and put his stamp on it gradually.

Aintree Red

He's just trying to implement his plans for the team, squad and club as soon as he can. Whether or not this is a good thing or bad thing, we'll just have to wait and see.

To many posters/people have already decided we will finish mid-table. Before a ball has even been kicked. Lets see who we have in the squad in September 1st then see were we are around November/December. Make improvements if we need them, then judge at the end of the season.

That's what I'm going to do before I make any comments on the team or BR . You never know we might finish in the top 4.

Fingers crossed Aintree mate.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed052's Note - Fantastic post - totally agree}

Seriously are you people gettin some sort o mental block to reality?
The only thing you or I know about AC's situation is that he's still a Liverpool player, as is agger

I would say finishing 5pts behind us last season with a squad that cost a fraction of what ours cost quite an achievement, while playing good football.

And if Rodgers is going to be succesful then he needs to buy players he feels will fit his system and style. If he feels that certain players cannot adapt then they should be sold and replaced whoever they may be.

JRG

Furthermore, We have not signed ANY Swansea players as of yet, and only the only players who have gone were expected to leave anyway!
How can BR have you worried after a handful of pre-season games and most of his main players not available to him! If you're posting this after 6 months and we're sitting in 10th, then I would be agreeing with you but we're not!

Irish Al

Don't you remember the club cover up about Mr Agger Aintree red? I thought we all knew mate. Oops, did we? By the way, I thinks he's a cracker but Mr Rodgers may have discovered something which concerns him i.e a past problem of some sort. I trust the manager myself.

DaveyBootle

This time in 2 weeks all these brendan lovers on this site will be wanting him out when we get turned over by west brom, i can guantee it, bring back Rafa. stevo

Agreed JRG. Swansea's wage bill was on the order of 20M, ours closer to 120M.

Give BR, the owners, and the players a break already. Provide support and let them do the collective jobs they're paid to do.

Bring back Rafa? I love Rafa, stevo mate but he is the main reason why we have a massive annual wage bill. Aquilani has signed for Fiorentina but still we are paying, some of his wages. Because of Rafa.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Sod Rafa, bring back the perms ;)

I take on board what you all have said, you all have valid opinions, I think mine is too, which is, whilst im still hopeful, just that I have slight concerns at some of his actions. But hopefully he'll get it right and make me look like a dick.
And in reply to 1 poster, I do know that Andy Carroll has been told that he is not wanted. I think that's fairly clear anyway.

05 Aug 2012 15:36:25
it really bugs me on this sight if we sell carroll, agger, skrtel or any of are other so called big names its showing no ambition from the club especially if we buy williams and allen to replace them.
please get real liverpool have done nothing for years is it because we had rubish players was it because we had no back up when injurys came up or was it due to tactics of manager who knows.

fact is we have a manager in brendan rogers with years of coaching knowledge gained behind some great managers ,he took that to swansea and turned them in to one of the most attractive and respected teams in the prem last season.
he is fully committed to his system and names mean nothing to him just 11 players on the pitch that will make that system work.

so i for one as a liverpool suporter of 35 years dont care if we have agger and adam or allen and williams in the side as long as they go out there every week and where the shirt with pride and give 100% for the club

05 Aug 2012 14:36:11
I personally think that we shld keep adam as he is a very good backup midfielder and that we shld keep Carroll because it is very evident that he wants to play for the club which is quite rare these days finally I think we shld sign Dempsey Allen Ramirez Vargas and afellay on loan this will leave us wiv a gd squad.

I agree with everything except the Adam comment. If he can be involved with a swap deal or we get enough £££ for him I would sell.

JitB. JFT96

I agree I would like to see Carroll stay but don't kid yourself, he didn't want to leave Newcastle and by all accounts showed that on a daily basis in training up until it was coming close to the euro championships!

But I do think he will be a quality player given a good run of games!

Irish Al

05 Aug 2012 15:12:17
Is it fair to say that Gaston Ramirez will most probably not be coming to LFC. I would really want him to but seen as we are 'so interested' in Allen i cannot see a deal happening. I think Ramirez would fit in to the team perfectly and would offer more attacking options than Allen but oh well...
Thanks
LFCfanTHATwantsRAMIREZoverALLEN

05 Aug 2012 15:07:46
The sale of agger would not only be a crippling defensive error, but more so a huge statement from us that we have no ambition

05 Aug 2012 15:03:20
Just recieved my season ticket for this year (£805)and to be honest im just not exited at all for this season, less than two weeks to go and only another mediocre signing n Borini, but even worse is that we are intent in signing more Swansea players like Allen. Don't get me wrong he is ok, but for Liverpool FC, we should be aiming higher than that..... would Real
Madrid, Barcelona, Man Utd or even City take Allen?? If the answer is no then why is he good enough for us. And people wonder why the likes of Suarez, Reina, Skrtel and Agger would happily move on given the chance. 7th place here we come. (Sigh)

Decker84

Manu were also looking to sign Henderson, yet many consider him to be a 'mediocre' signing for LFC.

RedYip

If you think we are on the level of them teams then you are deluded. we are going through a rebuilding phase which will take time.

Because we are not any of those teams, be realistic because the manager is
Tommy

Man u are also looking to buy Lucas from Sau Paulo in an deal worth more than £30m.... ambition there is slightly different to ours.... dont you think? {Ed052's Note - Erm, no.}

You guys are the ones who are deluded... we have been rebuilding for over 20 years... when will be we near completion?

Go one then Ed.... enlighten me as to where we have been showing ambition in the transfer market this summer {Ed052's Note - United are signing players to improve their squad - and we are signing players to improve our squad. We have shown interest in top players, and are signing players to improve us. Thats ambition.}

Sell your season ticket to me then, I've been on the waiting list for ages. Sickening to think there's people like you with one when there's so many people waiting who want one more than anything

Red Ollie

But why Joe allen, when we need other positions, we already have gerrard, lucas, adam spearing in centre mid, we need more wide players and another striker. Maybe even another centre back if one of agger or skrtel go

Which top players have we shown interest in? {Ed052's Note - Affelay, Allen, Dempsey and many many others.}

I'm not 100% certain, but haven't United only signed Nick Powell from Crewe and Kagawa - not what you would call strengthening their squad. {Ed052's Note - I do believe so yes.}

Sami hyppia from Willem II never heard of him!! Mancs have signed jaap stam! He will be there for years!! Xabi alonso? Can't be that good if he was, mourinho would want him at Chelsea! Mascherano can't even get in west hams side and we are paying 17 million!..........paisley's genius

I will buy your seasonticket off you...I've been on the waiting list for years and would happily fly over on a weekly basis to support the team I love...spend the money on something that will make you happy...which evidently watching Liverpool does not!

Irish Al

Ambition is putting money where your mouth is. Not living in La La Land like Ed052. {Ed052's Note - Thanks mate - and ambition is not just about money - but if thats what you think - so be it.}

Why do we need allen, its quit simple.
lucas is deffensive.
hendreson is too shy to be a catalyst going forward.
gerrard is mainly there for wisdom as guidance. he can no longer run at deffenders as he ussed to.
adam, do i even need to tell u whats wrong with him.

u see , in midfield u need an allround type of player, a box to box man. allen is that. in most of our preseason games,we built well from deffence, but justm lacked that man to take it from ther to the wings and strikers. gerrard doesnt have the pace or the stamina to do it anymore.
i for one would very much appreciate allen.

oh and shelvey is great, but he needs alot of game time elsewhere to be where we neeed him to be.

And where would this mythical pile of money come from to fulfill your ambition for LFC? Pots of gold found at the end of rainbows?

Do us all a favour and flog your season ticket. We really don't need 45,000 miseryguts like you every week

Easy to see now why Anfield sounds like a graveyard these days anyway....
a look inside the mind of the modern fan.

People there these days are mostly soft, whiny capitalists.

I'm not anti-capitalist - I'm just describing them.

No fire or passion - and no social conscience or awareness how lucky they are. Just moan moan moan. Everything should be just perfect for them. Like spoiled children.

27-28 years old (if the name Decker84 is anything to go by) - a season ticket holder at Anfield and he's whinging.

Shanks would give you a good kick up the arse.

There are wars and sh*t going on....

Nevermind all that - simply talking football - people would kill to have that season ticket.

"to be honest im just not excited at all" you say.

I get excited about watching sh*tty delayed streams of friendlies against the likes of Guangdong bloody Cave - or whatever they're called!!

Give that ticket to someone who deserves it.

Seriously.

BJH YNWA (also nevermind that the rest of your post is personic beyond belief - So this is the modern 'season-ticket holder' amongst the most 'knowledgeable fans in the world'. Those days are disappearing fast apparently. A product of our times, this guy.)

Ok heres my attempt of ins n outs..
Outs..
Aquilani, Rodriguez, Kuyt, Spearing, Adam, Pacheco, Doni, jones
For a hopeful combined total of i dunno maybe £10-£15
Then carroll for £18
Ins..
Borini, Allen, ramirez, a.johnson, sturridge or sum other striker, left back backup, and 'star loan'
Say round £65 for players to bring in minus £30 from sales.. Would think around £35 not overboard spending and an unbelievably talented and young side on paper to go forward with.. Id be unbelievably optimistic if the transfers end up something similar to that.. I no ive thrown up random figures but from wat ive read about with possible transfers n figures thats wat i cum up with.. eds or others input..? Cheers

Keep Pacheco, he is a decent player. {Ed052's Note - he needs to work hard though}

this is only my opinion...but if we were to sell agger would it really be a big lose...dont get me wrong when he's fit and playing the is not many better at cb..but the guy is injury prone....he as bin at anfield for 7 seasons and played 165 games which works out at about 23 and half games a season....i say if man city or anyother club want to pay 20mill +for him we should take it....i dont like us sellin players to other teams ..but we have to way up the pros and cons...dave d

It would be hard to replace him. An he's a popular player, but like you say he's injury prone. I can see us getting 15m for him but not 20m.
He's very good when he's playing but a large portion of the time we have had to play our backup and we lose points.
If we can replace him for someone more reliable who plays everygame who is equal in talent to agger then it's a very good deal.
Don't get me wrong he's one of my favourite players but he's not irreplaceable.

MIKEY

Dave D

He also played 33 games last season though, I don't think now is the time to sell when he's starting to show greater fitness. Just my opinion though :)

Sideshowbob

Problem is that Agger is only world class defender we have, maybe coates but he needs more game time... so then we left with skrtel and coates as first choice, but with either of them suspended or injuried, we need to rely on carra once again, and im sad to say this about one of my alltime lfc heroes, but he is just not good enough anymore.... I had really high hopes for wilson some time ago, but seems like im the only one... ofc we can buy replacement, but we would never attract anyone as good as agger

I find all these talk of tiki taka really surprising, cosidering its the same ethos as pass and move which is what have we've been known with since ice age? What we do need, in my humble view, is creativity, pace and good finishing and not another version of ideological idiosyncracy in tiki taka.
FSG needs to sign about 5 quality players for the first team to improve our current squad and replace those on their way out.
IN:
Gaston Remirez
Kelvin Mirralas
Rondon
Burak Yilmaz
Allen but not for 15m
OUT:
Carrol
Spearing
Kuyt
Maxi
Aurelio
Aquilani
These new players would add quality without having a big hit on our wage bill. This is the only way forward.
Stevenge

Ron Don Gone

Red Jay

Fact is, we don't have the quality in the current squad to play this type of football.
So unless we sign some real quality and capable players, we can forget 'tiki taka'.

Hi eds, appreciate all the work you're doing. I believe that some fans and posters may be placing too much emphasis on this "star" loan signing. I think the problem is that a "star" player to one person is not a "star" to another? Just maybe something for fans to consider.

Thanks eds, all the best

i would just like to give my opinion on what may happen. agger wont go anywhere and will be made vice cap under stevie.

bellamy wont leave he will finish off his final year on the contract then maybe move back to cardiff next year to finish his career

adam will be gone not sure whether for dempsey but im sure he wount fit BRs style,

shelvey wont go on loan will be kept as a bench player. i dont no about spearing he may leave on loan but wont be sold

carroll i expect him to leave at the end of the transfer window and we may take 15mil for him from newcastle

Macca said a few days ago that there will be loans comin in and it looks that way with rodgers stating he may get loans so fair play to Macca for that.

allen looks set to sign in the next week or so now that the olympics are over for him

dempsey may come to us unless roma dont offer him a way better deal

i dont think we will get ramirez, good player but dont see him joining liverpool

So Brendan wants Ashley Williams to replace Agger ?? If this is true then i am done with this club. Its so obvious that Brendan is too small time for our club. Agger and Suarez look to be on the way out and Brendan goes for Borini (Not exciting) and Williams. What a joke. Its getting embarrassing supporting this club. We are a laughing stock. Im done with this club until Brendan is sacked. I'll give him about 2 months then he'll be kicked out just like Benitez, Hodgson and Dalglish.

Thoughts on sterling playing cf of the 3?

Benny baller

Not enough physical strength or composure in front of goal in my opinion. Morgan gets rated highly because of his calmness in front of goal. Sterling belongs on the wing, just get a bit scared when I see him and Enrique on the same side! [FR]

In my opinion, Liverpool will look to secure Dempsey, Allen, Ramirez, Afellay (loan), Vargas. Offload Carroll, Adam. This means players in a 25 man squad would probably look like this.

GK: Reina, Gulacsi, Doni/Jones
DEF: Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Coates, Kelly, Carra, Vargas
MID: Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Ramirez, Downing, Shelvey**, Spearing*, Sterling**, Suso**,
ATT: Borini, Dempsey, Affellay, Bellers, Pacheco**
*spearing as much as some want Jim gone, let's be honest he'll more than likely stay.
**these are the younger/youth/reserve players

So if we were to sign more players, this would mean the players in this means dropping players from this squad (given who I say "IMO" will be targeted and contracted on to play for us next season).

Personally, I'd like to see Róndon sign for lfc as I believe he has what it takes. In addition to Róndon, I believe Ozil would be amazing for us and if modric signs for real who knows but it seems unlikely. Another player I rate after watching the Mexican league is Carlos Darwin Quintero. Lacey young winger but this is just a player I rate.

Where's Suarez in your 25 man squad?

Salomon Rondon has signed for Rubin Kazan. Poor malaga!

Poor Liverpool too. just Euro 10m and we never even know he is a good player.
sleeping fsg. {Ed052's Note - We have other targets. We cannot buy every player in the world - we are not Chelsea!!}

No ed but he s a better player than borini for the same price range {Ed052's Note - its impossible for you to say that. One reason is Borini could settle quicker.}

Yeah ed..we cannot buy every player in the world...by the way..how many did we buy til now?? {Ed052's Note - Just the one so far - many more to come though}

Many more in our dearm . and all that so cal young british talent who can't even beat South Korea. paying £15m for allen is ok. not bid for Rondon £10m is useless.

The negativity in the posts today come from fans who are as dissapointed as I am with the transfer activity this summer. The reason is simple, Top 4 teams dont waste their time making their teams stronger , they all look like they are sure what positions they need to strenghten and they do so with quality players. Us on the other hand , not only looks like we havnt got a clue who we want to bring in , it looks like we havnt got money to spend, most of our top players are constantly linked with departures. The only players we are linked with are Swansea players, " proven" EPL players( just like Downing, Adam, Hendo from last year) . Our attack that was suppose to get stronger this summer just got weaker with the departures of Kuyt and Maxi and dont hear anything on possible replacements. We needed goals last season and we needed a serious goal scorer to pair with Suarez, so we get a Youngster Borini. We have 3 weeks left and a incomplete team that will surely struggle come a tough beginning of the season. No wonder fans are so negative. I belive we will come good but right now just like the majority of fans am very sceptical and dissapointed . YNWA!Sory for the bad english it is my second language.

Don't panic Mr mainwaring. Redevon

We just got a new manager who hasn't even had his full squad for 1 training session, of course he doesn't know exactly what positions to strengthen!! Some people just really annoy me if you want to criticise do it at the end of the transfer window!!

I'm fed up of Lfc being taken for persons.... Aquillani sale unbelievable.

If city want Agger, fine but let's make them
Pay for it!

How about traore or Richards plus Andy Johnson
And what the hell, why not insist on dzeco loan with option to buy, for once let's come out on top of a deal! City have the money, have excess players and want our cb, c'mon let's make it happen ... Ynwa

Danny

We have a owner who don't know football. a director who is from marketing, a manager who is just 2nd year in EPL. no way we make good profit from player and buy good player. a high profile DOF is needed.

With the big star loan how come no one has mentioned Alonso? Makes sense to me? Contract ending loan with option to buy surely ? Can't imagine Barcelona letting star player go out of their control to recover from injury. Thoughts? {Ed002's Note - Alonso has been mentioned repeatedly.}

How does this make sense in your head? Are you suggesting that Real would be willing to loan us a player for the final year of his contract, then we have an option to buy when he's a free agent?
This obviously makes no sense.

I think FSG are doing a sterling job and have the right ideas. Lower the wage bill, buy young players on cheaper wages, sell older players while their value is still high and promoting more players from the youth ranks into the first team. As they have had to clean up the club finances and also learn their own lessons (bad spending last season) they are not there yet. But I'd much prefer we follow Arsenal and their model than go the Chelsea or Man City route. That way our development can be sustainable. And anyway there's absolutely no satisfaction in buying the title as anybody can do it with rich enough owners. When I look at hideously wealthy clubs and owners I'm not jealous at all as the organizations and the kind of players they attract are mercenary, greedy and have no integrity of any kind. This is why I support Liverpool, a club with integrity and values that transcend football. So to those who want us to spend money we don't have, on players we can't afford, go and support another team. Liverpool are not as they once were in football or financial terms but they can be again with astute ownership backed up by a high level of integrity. This is why I back FSG as they embody both. I do this by judging their actions and not their words. And they have openly spoken of their desire to go more down the Arsenal route to success than to just throw money at the problem, like Man City for example. Their actions thus far have been true to this. So again those who complain should wake up, as its your expectations that are out of kilter. The owners have done no more than what they've said they would -and their actions bare this out - and therefore I back them 100%.

The Chelsea and Man City route are not options as FSG are as poor as church mice compared to roman or the sheik

LFC broke the transfer record in 70's and the 80's we bought the best player's that won us title's! So if buying the best player's win's us title's i'm all for that! I'm a staunch LFC fan and i'll admit that i envy City's and Chelsea's financial advantage's! They never bought the league they won it with the best player's!

We didn't always buy the best players in the 70s,and 80s.We bought the right type of player.Shankly and Paisleydidn't buy international players, but the players they bought became internationals.I think apart from Dalglish who we bought to replace Keegan I think you will find it hard to name me a star player either of them bought.

Rubbish!.
We would love to be like City and Chelsea.
Sadly what we have are a bunch of tight fisted, unrealistic, misguided, mis informed, and dare I say it 'impractical' owners.
Fsg, haven't a clue sorry!. {Ed052's Note - Erm, no I would hate to be like City - it would be awful - just terrible}

Yip, and that's when we were last a serious force in the league.
20 years of mediocrity, poor management, lack of vision, no innovation.
Now, more owners who haven't a damn clue.
Its a long, long, long road we are on. {Ed052's Note - Ridiculous}

My preference would instead be that Chelsea and City had to live within their means rather than us being like them. Unfortunately I don't think FFP will work either, so it is what it is.

RDL

So after the European ban did'nt we buy the best British player's? Barnes Beardsley Mcmahon Houghton Aldridge they all cost a packet back in the day! Plus Ed052 why would it be awful having the financial cloat of City or Chelsea? Cannot work that comment out! {Ed052's Note - Because mercenaries come in - and the clubs lose spirit and passion.}

Did I miss something or did we not just break the english transfer record to buy carroll?
And did FSG pay for it?
We are still and always will be a massive club.
jonnybarnes89-90

I believe what you seem to be searching for might also be better-referred to as the United model. Despise us or not, we have done it the right way. Moreover, Arsenal don't win trophies. Good luck with you rebuilding. Perhaps we shall see you at the top once more, eh?

Windy City Red

Jonnybarnes89-90 Yes and no! yes we broke the British transfer record with Carroll but no we did'nt pay for it Chelsea did!

05 Aug 2012 13:06:12
Being in my forties i've watched LFC rise, dominate and fall. As a teenager i took the title for granted, we won it nearly every year. We dominated Europe and had beaten most teams at Anfield by the time they took to the pitch. Halcyon days but it was all started by one man's vision - Shankly.
I'm not saying Rogers is anything like Shankly but he does seem to be adopting Shankly's "Liverpool Way" philosophy with his own. Consistency has been our failure for too many years now and this year may be a struggle too. However, i think over time Rogers will rebuild and restore LFC to former glories and i for one cannot wait.

We will be a little busier in the transfer market soon please stop all the negative comments and support our club!
We will off load a few players and get in players with the skills to cover different areas.
Wanyama, cover for Lucas and can play CB as well.
Dempsey, can play up front and in wider roles.
Ramirez, awesome player and versatile.
Munian, competition for our attack will be stronger than ever.
Allen, replaces Aqua and Adam
Affelay on loan with option to buy.
What do people think. I think those players added to the squad with Aqua,Adam,Spearing and Carroll leaving will make us a very difficult team to beat.

Never gonna happen mate, although i would love this.

Sounds great

But the problem is it just won't happen

I'm not in the know but here's what I think will happen in the next week:
-One of the cb's may leave- probably Skrtel - who will be replaced either by Kjaer or Amorobieta
-Joe Allen will join and a centre mid will leave and pave the way for him - probably Adam
-A winger will join - etc maybe Vargas, Ramirez, or Dempsey
- If Big AC heads back to the toon, I'd expect a player such as Negredo or someone like that to join, possibly Nilmar or Soldado
-Everything else will depend on departures I think
Let me know what you guys think!! Great site!

anyone else think we are still following the same rules we did under kenny of buying overpriced british player ?
its not meant to be negative as allen could potentially be a good player but for 15 million it looks too much..

I would just like to say how disappointed i am with the signings liverpool have got in recent years. We could easily still be in the top 4 if we didn't waste money on the likes of Carrol, Downing, Aquilani, Keane, Bable,(Adam?). We lost around 10 million on keane, Downing is worth 10million IMO. Only God knows how much we wasted on Aqua and CArrol. I just wanted to ask, Where would the majority of the blame lie for this poor deals?

You should blame sky tv to bring so much money to the premier league generating incredible high transfer fees

Every club has a chequered history when it comes to signings.

dd

On KK for spending £100million on some very average players!

The transfer market is like roulette

Some you win but more often you lose

Unless you can buy the cream of players like City or Chelsea you are going to have more misses than hits

As an example we paid 35M for Carroll Kun was around the same price

However Carroll has cheaper wages

but the value of Kun has increased while carroll's value has plummeted

So if LFC is fervent about reducing the wage bill and even if LFC could afford the higher transfer prices the wage structure will always be our un-doing and we may not get the cream of the player crop

Why are we being linked with so many Swansea players (Ashley Williams)? Rodgers has a clause with not to buy any players from Swansea (maybe now not Allen)

05 Aug 2012 12:15:32
Just my opinion but would nuri sahin be a better alternative to joe Allen as he will probably cheaper and is a better player. If we go for him we have a very good chance of getting him. I also think we should move spearing on as he is a top lad but sadly not good enough. Adam should also be moved on as he will probably be much easier to shift and use Shelvey as back up.

That would leave us with:
Lucus/Allen or sahin/ hend/ gerrard/ cole who I also think should move on/Shelvey/ suso. That is enough cover for midfield in my opinion and spend on a quality winger like Munian although hard to get. We should also buy affellay in my opinion.

Curious to what people think of that.

Agrred mate, Allen is a very good player but Sahin has a better passing range and is more creative. For me allen is very similar to lucas, which is not a bad thing but but not exactly what we need right now.
I realise we need cover for lucas but unfortunately there are more pressing issues in the squad that need addressing.
Jason

Move on Shelvey and Suso?? Are you mad??

Since the transfer season started arsenal spurs Chelsea have been quick of the mark, hearing rumours of the players man city and man utd are now looking at is making me feel un easy. While all these teams are looking at top players we seem to be looking at Swansea and bargain basement. We don't need a lot of new players just a few great ones, was looking forward to the season and now think will be another mid table season. This will ensure our better players look elsewhere come jan n next summer. Where have we come to that even spurs want the 4th spot more then we do. I said before that the 4th spot was important more then the cups but was slatted by guys wanting a good day out and a cup on the shelf, well you guys hope your not the ones moaning that we are not going for top players. MrT

The ironic thing is that our 'bargain buys' are more expensive say Kagawa to United and Marin to Chelsea even though they are of a far worse calibre, ie. Sinclair, Allen, Dempsey.

Who do people think so far as been the best transfer in this window to a prem club { value for money }. stu

Marin to Chelsea. Didn't he only cost 8 mill?

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Spurs have signed Sigurdsson. United have Kagawa and we've signed Borini. Can you explain those differences too me?

Yes Chelsea have been busy, but their plans have long been in place. We've had to completely change our whole strategy due to a change in management.

These things take time.

Papa G

For me, Marin to Chelsea is incredible value for the money, but think Kagawa will (unfortunately) have a very, very successful season (mainly cause I think he'll get more playing time than Marin and United play better 'team' ball than Chelsea).

Flop of the transfer window will be Hazard I think.

So we may lose Agger to Citeh or Barca! Skrtel may also be looking to move! Rumours abound that Pepe may want away as well. OK, then go, not one of you is irreplaceable. We are LFC, no one is bigger than the club, and before any of you consider moving, ask Torres if the grass is greener elsewhere. We have lost bigger talents before and the club has survived and continued to be successful, LFC should no longer be held to ransom. All these players are good players, but lets look at a few facts. Agger is extremely good, good on the ball, good going forward and marshalling the defence, when that is he is fit. Injury have robbed him of a few years and everytime he steps on the field i am worried he may get injured. Skrtel, when paired with Agger is an awesome force, but can be distinctly average when Agger is not there. As for Pepe, his form has been off for a couple of seasons and it seems we have this type of thing every transfer window with will he stay or go. TBH if suarez keeps on with this Evra rubbish he should be shown the door as well. I know most wont agree with me, but I am tired of this constant charade with our best players.

If suarez goes . will the last person to leave anfield please turn the lights off and lock the door.

Controversial, but am i the only one who thinks that this year downing will have a good year? he created 50 odd goalscoring opportunities that werent scored last year, and hit the post 6 times i think. he clearly has the ability, thats why he's so infuriating to watch sometimes, however, if BR can instill some confidence in him, he could be an important player for us. ready to get shot down by everyone now...

No shooting down from me mate, I agree with you - I think its been his confidence more than anything which has resulted in his performances. I reckon he has a lot more to offer, he was pretty solid against Gomel so I think it could be a good season for him if he gets the game time.

JP.

He started last year like a house on fire and I seen enough to see that there is a player there.

True, he clearly wasted his talent last year and was waaayy short of confidence towards the end of the season. Think he can do really well this season, just needs to be much more confident in his ability and lets hope that our finishing improves greatly this toime around. YNWA

SaVior

Good to see that some people here can remember the good performances.

Good luck to him - I hope he has the year of his life.

He has a great opportunity to play in our front 3 and if Rodgers can light a fire under his ars* - and inspire Downing to play at his best - he could be very good there.

I want at least 10 goals and 10 assists this season from Downing.

He is well capable of that. Particularly playing in a front 3 rather than as a winger.

That strike should do his confidence the world of good.

We need a lot of players to step up and show their quality this year. Rodgers has made it clear that if you don't shape up - you'll be out on your ear.

The way it should be.

A lot of these lads in the coming season are battling to prove that they should even have the right to play for LFC.

A lot of fans (mostly eeijits in fairness) have called to ship them all out.

That goes for Adam, Hendo and Andy as well - to name a few.

Big stars elsewhere - but dubbed failures at Anfield, by the media and many of their own fans.

I hope these lads dig deep - show some pride, and prove the critics wrong.

There is no shame in taking time to adjust. Settling in a new city - and getting used to your team-mates style of play isn't easy.

I hope the lads are more settled and that we can unite to achieve some notable progress this year - and if the likes of Downing, Adam or Hendo (or whoever else) emerge as key players in that - I'll be all the more delighted.

New boss - new style. Some past underperformers could fit the system like a glove...

FSG please sell the club to owners who have more ambition.

Why don't you go and support City, Chelsea or PSG ? It would be a lot easier. Or go and support Malaga and see what happens when sugar daddies get bored of their toy.

Fsg have done a very good job managing our crazy wage bill and on top of that have given us money to spend.

Why do people always say so support another team? We all want LIVERPOOL to do well not the other teams is it so bad that someone wants our club to do well and be ambitious and spending lost of money? I'm not against FSG but I'd prefer we started winning the league etc. And it's clear we won't be doing that any time soon.

FSG has a long term plan for LFC that will introduce a self sufficiant, stable business. Because LFC have not signed 2 'marquee' players this window does not mean FSG should sell the club. RANGERS/PORTSMOUTH!! & let's take a moment to look at MALAGA or perhaps UTD''s 500m debt, oh & DCI went bust... What are you not getting about Football club ownership? Stop being a spoilt child who want's popstar players on his bedroom wall & care more for the club, the city & a continuing future.

dd

FSG do very well Rafa take us 7th with injured Torres and Gerrard . and FSG take us 8th after reuse the money make by Rafa.

I thought in several interviews henry mentioned that we have to be in the CL to make more revenues which in turn will contribute to the long term and sustainable business of the club. It looks a huge contradiction with the way the team has been formed. we certainly cannot expect to be in the CL with the current squad. there are weaknesses in the first team and also we lack depth in the squad as the reserve does not show huge promise either. gerrard and lucas got injured, suarez got banned and we were exposed last year. how can you expect to be in the CL without spending. cost cutting (e.g. reducing wage bills) can be a means for enhancing profitability, but definitely not a sustainable long term option.

No Comolli and Dalglish took us to 8th

Puzzled

By 'more ambition' I assume you really mean 'someone with a ton of money who doesn't care if they lose it all'? Perhaps you can try taking out an ad in Bazillionaire Weekly and see if there are any takers?

Quaresma?

Turkish news claiming that an LFC bid is imminent...what are your thoughts Ed?

I personally believe it could be an astute acquisition. {Ed002's Note - His mistake was leaving Porto - and he has struggled most of the time since.}

That would be insane..he is struggling for form ever since he left portugal and would be another poor choice..we should go all out for atleast 1 or 2 world class players like gaitan, muniain or jovetic all of whom could play out wide/forward role..

If we dont sign Demsey it just shows how rubbish our owners are. He is cheap and they still can't affrord him. Maybe Henry should buy a puppy instead of a football club. {Ed023's Note - He prefers cats}

It's got nothing to do with affording him. We aren't going to be paying over the odds for old players. They aren't Hicks and Gillete and you obviously aren't the sharpest tool in the shed.

How is £10 million for a 29 year old, in the last year of his contract, cheap ?

Every player has his value and you should pay nothing more.

If Dempsey comes in, and scores as many for us, as he did for Fulham last season, £10million would be a price worth paying..

hello all.

Long time follower but first time poster. I don't have a rumour nor am i in the know but i do have in my humble opinion a good sense of logical thinking. I really beleive in fsg policy of buying young players with potential and for those reasons i just can't see us buying a 29 year old in clint dempsey. I rate him highly but think we lost our chance a few seasons ago. Therefore i don't think the new
buying policy would warrant this kind of deal. Borini, allen, and all the other below 24 year olds we've been linked with make business sense. Having said that we might go in for dempsey due to his Usa roots which potentially can bring more revenue. I think lfc are probably weighing up the pros and cons with dempsey (age vs commercial rev generated). So, when thinking about dempsey deal we need to think more with a business cap on. For example we may spend approx 10 to 12 million on transfer, wage, agent fees, sign on fees etc. So the question i have for u eds, if you can possibly answer this, is can we actually make money feom the dempsey deal in the long run t-shirt sales, more followers/interest from usa supporters in lfc etc. If we can generate a positive balance financially speaking on dempsey then perhaps we will sign him. If not then i don't think it will happen. Thanks for all the hard work eds and please post as hopefully these kind of posts will help other followers to use their logic and reasoning faculties before posting complete nonsense.

Nanaz

LFC do not generate monies through shirt sales!

I fear you may need a new business cap. No way FSG are going to buy Dempsey to make more money for Warrior- how does that even make sense? If they do buy Dempsey, it will be because they think perhaps having a very good, versatile player who finished 3rd in scoring last year is a good idea.

If they wanted to excite the 'American soccer market' they would just sign Hope Solo as a backup keeper. Cost next to nothing and create enormous interest in LFC
in the US. Not gonna happen obviously.

05 Aug 2012 11:39:39
Manchester city are interestedin Scott Sinclair, which means our interest in a.johnson could increase if they get him, I'd rather johno than Sinclair.
and also a.williams will not sign, he has agreed terms with a Mexican club.

05 Aug 2012 11:31:25
One of the reasons our transfers are being held up is to save money on wages. A club can save millions by signing players just before the transfer window shuts. 5 players say on about £50k a week can save a club £1M just in 4 weeks! FSG are shrewd business men and expect players in around end of August.

REDrum.

FSG are rubbish they should never buy what they cant afford. ie a football club.

So why are we slow to unload players ?

I think most will agree its more important to get the new players in as soon as to get them into the style of play the manager wants the team to adopt.

Jonesred

That is nonsense because you end up paying millions extra for players on last few days of the window. When the selling clubs know you are desperate they hike up the prices

Ed when rodgers announced that he will bring in a signing that will please evry1 surely he isn't talking about borini or allen as they are good but not increadible and now he's said he's going to make some loan signings so is this player that is going to make evry1 happy a loan signing and if so who do you think it will be or do you think ti will be an outright signing and again any ideas also do you think ramirez is that signing or is alonso a real possibility this or next season thanks eds a reply would be nice cheers and this is a great site keep it up

05 Aug 2012 11:17:10
Basically no one knows who we are after, we don't know who we can realistically get. No one wants to come to us anymore! Arsenal are building, Chelsea and united are throwing money at it, spurs already have a good squad and still looking to improve, even QPR are doing something!! Every Liverpool fan can see where we are short of cover! It's wingers, a natural striker, decent back up for Lucas and competition for Enrique! How many years has it been since we had a decent winger? I don't want tiki taki football I'm happy with the way we played at times last season- just needed the end product! Hopin wrong but unless some decent signings are made, and we don't play like we did the other night we might just make Europa league! We won't be seeing champions league unless we sign 6 to 8 decent signings

Spot on, and anyone who cannot see this are letting their hearts rule their heads.

I thought FSG were renowned for big spending to drive success on the field? Yes, they allowed big purchases to be made in Kenny's first year, but lets not forget the significant income they also received from letting several players go such as Torres, Babel etc (net spend was only circa £40m on transfer fees and arguably the wage bill has fallen as well). Compare that to what City have spent over 3 years, or what Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Utd have/are spending this close season. It is peanuts in comparison, and yet they still want top 4 quickly, if not this coming season. They are not as bright as they are portrayed to be if they really think that is possible.

A lot of people have said it would be good to go back to seeing good style football again, well, apart from not being able to convert chances as well as we should have done last year, I thought the boys played some great stuff, attacking teams and on occasions playing higher finishing teams off the park (yes, performances towards the end of the season were not consistenty good enough and poor form from one or two and some key injuries didn't help that) but in general, I thought the team played well across the year.

I hope to be proven wrong, but it looks to me like FSG are trying to deliver success on a shoestring budget when compared to what it has proven to take to deliver Champs League football.

With what has been invested so far in the playing side, and what is rumoured (yes, I know alot of it is BS and we should wait and see), but, if the rumours about our target players are even remotely close and we do let one or two bigger names go such as Agger/Skyrtl/Riena/Suarez, then I have no doubt that we will finish outside of the top 6 again this coming year.

I love LFC but I am not blind to what is clearly happening to our club, we are falling further away from the top 6 and I think bigger and better signings need to be made if we are to close the gap meaningfully. Borini, Dempsey, Allen, Sinclair, get real...These players will not make the difference.

As I say, I would love to be proven wrong, but if I am honest, I don't think I will be.

FSG, bring in someone of the calibre of Ramirez, and another proven top level striker and I will be more optimistic. Come on, prove your commitment and desire.

ConnorsLFC

So you start by saying no-one wants to sign for us anymore and then finish your post saying we need to sign 6 - 8 new players .... would you like to elaborate a little because I'm confused now!

awe nz

Awe nz what's so difficult about that?

I think they mean no decent players want to sign for us

AaaHh it is the early hours of the morning here lol. Imo FSG won't be throwing money around though; sustainability, reducing the wage bill etc, etc just not going to happen overnight (or this transfer window, but could be wrong) so need to be patient.

I believe Liverpool have money no doubt but I reckon the owners also feel the squad is to big and we are paying wages that are unnecessarily and believe that's the problem it's not a sell to buy policy the squad is just cluttered with poor average players on high wages. So makes sense to ship players out first which has been happening over past two years with host of youngsters going aswell as Ngog, kuyt, aurelio, aqualani, maxi. Looking at it from a business point which sadly football has become why would owners spend money adding more to a already masssive wage bill but getting better. Then having players sitting there not part of plans clogging up the squad, that's my conclusion anyway into how fsg are looking at it once unwanted players have been shipped on more will come again not coz we need the sales money to buy new players just getting rid of poor players on big wages.

Shanklys statue

Agree, a clear out is needed. Spearing, Adam, Cole, Downing, Carroll, Eccleston and Doni should go. The problem is who would want them.

Keep downing and carrol from above list.

05 Aug 2012 10:48:56
In my opinion it would be a shame to lose Daniel Agger as we haven't seen him consistently play to his full potential, reports say he doesn't want to leave nor is he injured. We've had a very hard time throughout the years and we were bound to suffer the consequences for Kenny Dalglish wasting FSG's investment on overpriced average players. We're probably at the point now where we must sell at least one player, if you ask me I'd rather lose Skrtel than Agger but I'd rather lose Agger than Suarez. If we do sell Agger it won't be the end of the world, we could use the money to invest in our attacking options and play Sebastian Coates, give hime more experience to learn the game, we still have Jamie Carragher and we'll probably bring in another average Centerback with potential. My opinion is I don't think it would be fair to start waving the FSG out flags if he does leave and we bring in more attacking options, Daniel Agger is Liverpool through and through but he has had his injuries problems and £20 Million is alot of money to turn down when we're in a position where our attack is the main priority. I hope he doesn't leave but hoping hasn't really worked for us since Istanbul.

Daniel Narciso YNWA

The attack is a priority because the defence is so good. Agger was a consistent performer last season, and to let him go would make us weaker in that dept.

Attack is the best form of defence. which is the main priority?

most people want superstar signings. chelsea lost 3-1 to a championship side total value on there team yesterday was 237,000,00. who ever we end up bringing in and for how much it doesn't matter but what does is team spirit and fans doing what there suppose to do support your team.

looking forward to the new season 100% faith in B.Rodgers

I wouldnt take or read anything into pre season results.
Its still 2 weeks to the season kicks off and by the most transfer business will be complete and playyers who have been playing in the Olympics will be back in the fold.
How often in the past has a team won all its pre season and then have a terrible start to the season.

Liverpool are not a mid table club if BR keeps buying swansea rubbish then he should have just stayed there.

Perhaps the last poter wasn't watching the team GB game. Allen was excellent. Obviously not watching last season when they beat us either. Very very few players are rubbish at prem level. They need to be outstanding talents and to be correctly motivated and positioned and they'll be winners. Have some faith and give up the whining - it merely demeans our team and the poster.

Why are we constantly being linked with all these average swansea players!! Before last season they were all playing in the championship. Do we want to be an average mid-table team?

Stop reading the papers.simple

I think it's unfair to call them average. They just didn't get their chance to perform on a main stage till last season. Swansea have some good players, maybe not what we want at LFC but definitely Orem standard. I'd take Allen and Taylor off Swansea any day

And Vorm. Good keeper.

Krasic, tello, and afellay are the players that we are looking at loans deals for all 3 are known to be available and all of them Play in the position we are looking to strengthen. My choice krasic I think of the 3 he would cope best in the prem. Allen deal to be completed by Wednesday 100% and Dempsey deal will most likely be completed if fulham agree to lower there price they are stuck on 9m Liverpool won't. Pay a penny over 7.5m expect this deal to through nearer the end of august. Kevo-Huyton {Ed002's Note - Krasic has already moved to Fenerbahce.}

Hi was just wondering who you think we will actually sign before the transfer window closes as I'm reading everyday liverpool FC is linked to nearly every professional footballer, who's coming in and goin out your view plz {Ed002's Note - You need to keep up with the posts. I would expect Allen to sign. Dempsey is a possibility but I understand Wolfsburg and Roma are both interested. There may be interest in a winger like Scott Sinclair, a centre back like Amorebieta. A couple of youngsters will be promoted to cover for departing squad players. The mystical loan singing(s). Perhaps someone creative like Ramirez to fill in for a player leaving. There are plenty of options and lots of time.}

Was the news of strong Liverpool interest in Ramirez, and the 12 or 13 million pound bid all just paper talk or is there a genuine interest in the player. He looks talented but I can't see him fitting in at liverpool, nevermind Liverpool bidding for him

Why would west ham give carrol a 8 yr contract ? Gold said when he took over at west ham that there were to many players on long term contracts and that it would never happen again while he was running that club so I think iot is all BS mate

I honestly feel Sterling should be included in the plans for this season. We desperately need pace upfront and Sterling has plenty of pace to offer. I would also keep Bellamy, he was superb at the Olympics.

BR will also get the best out of Downing. Just wonder what is going to happen with Carroll? Feel BR should let him stick around for another season to see if he can fit into the system. If we sell him we will make a loss so let's give the lad another go. He showed massive improvement towards the end of last season and was pretty decent at the Euro's.

Hope Borini hits the ground running. Another prolific goal scorer is required though so if we can land Dempsey then we will have a much stronger squad to challenge for the top 4.

Looking forward to the start of the season mates. The transfer window is still open so let's not give up hope yet. More players will be added to make us push for a top 4 spot.

We've bought one player from Roma br can't help what the media right regarding are transfer targets if you read what he said players being linked are well wide of the mark. After reading on the BBC Gossip page that BR is interested in Ashley Williams of Swansea, I've heard, whilst on the sauce, that BR is interested in a unique name and Stadium exchange deal with an as yet un-named Welsh Premier League club. The deal would see both sides swapping stadiums and names but retaining there existing tea ladies only.

Do you always believe the gossip page then ?

Why are we being linked with half the Swansea squad. Does BR not know how to scout. Understand Allen is coming. But to have being linked with Sinclair And Williams is ridiculous. They are so many better players out there. We are not Swansea. We are LFC. {Ed052's Note - He is selecting the best players he has worked with - who will all improve the squad. anyway - they are just rumours for now, e.g. Williams

Improve the squad ,debateable

I don't think BR i the one responsible for all the crap that is printed in newspapers, also it seem logical that a newly appointed coach is linked with his former players, judge only the signing, not the freaking rumours !
French Red

Rodgers is the type who goes on holiday to Benidorm every single year. Same hotel, same room if he can get it.

He still thinks he is at Swanse. Either that or he knows nothing about other players and has zero imagination.

Life without Pepe. The "Loan Star" is a keeper. No pun intended. {Ed052's Note - Doubt it - if Reina left we would no doubt sign a replacement.]

How long before more of LFC's star players, start to question the ambition of the club.
I said this 8 months ago, our biggest struggle (in light of the Suarez affair) in 2012/13 season, will be able to retain our top players.
I may still be wrong, but the signs and sounds of 'player discontent' are showing and growing even louder.
Was BR the right choice, well let's see what happens in the next 25 days then.
Red Herring. {Ed052's Note - He's been in the job just over a month - please just give him a chance.}

I wouldn't want any players at the club who are only there because of who the manager is.

If some players are not happy at Liverpool under Rodgers then let them leave.

JRG

If br is trying to sign williams from swansea then his credibility with me is in doubt , red mick tag

Mate, you had no idea about business or football. Get a grip! PJ

For Gods sake....moan moan moan. Please remember that Liverpool are not the biggest attraction anymore for players. Sadly we have come down the pecking order over the last 20 years and this shows when trying to attract new players. Do you think that when a player becomes available that Liverpool are the only option? Good on BR, I think he is doing a great job.

So you base this on what?media speculation, grow up mate just because are players are linked with other clubs dosnt mean they wont out.give br and the club a chance

ste

What signs and sounds of player discontent are you referring to then? All I've heard so far is how impressed they all are with his methods and how excited they are to be working with him.

At the end of the day Brendan hasn't had too much time with the players but maybe enough time to realise that the players he worked with at Swansea are actually better than what we have just now. If thats the case so be it and he is right to raid his old team for players that he thinks can do the business.

Not a rumour as such but I wanted to ask about the "snowball effect" the BR has referred to. Does anyone have any clue which players might trigger this? Luka Modric is the obvious one that springs to mind, maybe RVP?

Cheers
Neil W {Ed052's Note - I would say mate that once we get in one or two players, we could spark something off - as then we will let players leave. And I think it will all start in the next couple of days too.}

Eds is there any intrest in players of countries except GB.
Japan and mexico have ssome very good players in their squad.
All players from brazil are not costly like neymar, lucas, ganso etc.
Is there any chance we may sign some talented players from japan, korea, mexico in cheap deals that may become bargain.

RED FOR LIFE..... {Ed052's Note - Players like Neymar not costly. Lucas?? 30 million maybe - because thats lose change isn't it. Also whats the fascination with British players, since the new epic Americans took over, it has been 50/50 British and Foreign, so that we can fill our quota of British players.}

Ed052 sorry but i think he ment that not all are costly like Naymir etc
wildwelshman {Ed002's Note - You are correct. However, it is not always that easy to bring in players form the lesser footballing nations as work permits are much harder to obtain.}

Think he meant they are not all costly like your neymar's ant the likes (who are silly money)

Hi there Ed
I would just like your opinion on the a player being 'Premier League Proven'.
Look at Downing for example, Premier League Proven through and through and he did not hit the ground running, Berbatov hit the ground running at Spurs(Unproven) but went to Utd Proven and didnt hit the ground running, Torres still trying, Carrol, etc... but then you get Mata 'Unproven' hit the ground running, Suarez immediate(maybe not to best of his ability but better than others mentioned), Jelavić immediate, etc...
Ed people on this site are always saying this player or that player will not succeed as he isnt Proven but History shows us this is not the case always, infact mostly not the case.
Would Love your view Ed
Cape Town Red {Ed052's Note - I would say people who have Prem experience will settle quicker than players who dont - but there are exceptions, e.g. Mata doing well, and Torres not. There is a pattern, but as you say, there are exceptions to the 'Prem proven' rule, if you get what I mean.}

Downing was one the players who created the most clear cut chances in the EPL last season plus he hit the post like 6 times. Our biggest problem last season was converting our chances so you cannot entirely blame Downing for a season with little return. Suarez was one of the players who wasted the most chances in the EPL so converting our chances is BR's biggest mountain to climb this season.

Rodgers will get the best out of Downing. Downing is a confidence player. All Rodgers needs to do is give Downing a slap over the head and he will be fine. He can score and create goals so let's see how he does this season in the new system Rodgers is implementing.

Red4Life

I believe encouragement is a far better tactic than a slap in the head downing needs to be told how important he us to the team so in other words rodgers going to have to lie to him haha.a good lie

Chelsea lost to Brighton with hazard on the pitch. Another example why a team should not be judged on pre season performances. Dempsey, allen and ramirez in, we will definitely have a competitive squad. Money can be raised from selling carrol, adam, spearing, wilson and one of cole or pacheco. I would personally like to see pacheco stay rather than cole.
Indian Buzzer {Ed049's Note - Why is Hazard all of a sudden the next best thing since sliced bread?}

It's because his name sounds cool Ed ;)

His name sounds like a dangerous risk

The sliced bread thing only applies if your saying the finest thing since sliced bread

How many Swansea players does BR want. Surely his knowledge extends beyond his old club, or does it!.
All this 'bargain basement' stuff is not going to benefit LFC!

When did Dempsey play for Swansea? I wager dollars to doughnuts the loan signing didn't play for Swansea either.

Who has said br wants to sign all these swansea players if you believe the media you will believe anything....steve ynwa {Ed052's Note - exactly}

Why, who have we bought from Swansea?

cozinoz

Too many links with swansea players , what did they do they are not that good to all come to lfc , red mick tag

Its either chelsea or swansea players

Not only that, but why shouldn't he want to bring in a player or two that he has worked with in the past if he knows they have the right qualities/attributes, will improve our current team/squad.

FFS give the man a chance to work will ya!!

I think he needs to be given at least 3 seasons to turn us around and yes I do think it will take that long (not saying we won't have any success along the way though :-) )

Speculation about the potential sales of Agger, Skrtle, Reina, Carroll, Suarez, Adam, Downing and now Sterling.
Makes me wonder just what the hell is actually going on at LFC.
Some of those names would be welcome departures, but the loss of the others would be a disaster.

Not quite sure what is going on at the club, but BR seems 'out of his depth', and FSG seem like they are prepared to 'strip mine' the club and sell off the best assets one by one.
All I can say, is we appear to be a 'very small boat, on very stormy seas' presently.
Where is this club really going, what are the plans, when will some real action take place. {Ed049's Note - So you're going to judge the manager and the owners after listening to some cr@p in the media?}

Well said ed , full of negative people on here again today i see .... steve ynwa

Jesus your FM season must have gone crap! None of what you've said has actually happened! This is an example of why I can't wait for the season to start and all the transfer nonsense to stop when the window closes.

Speculation?

I am speculating that Messi will leave Barcelona for Real Betis.

It isn't true though; a very big difference between truth and Journalism

Obviously Raheem Sterling is not the talent we were all lead to believe, especially if LFC are considering selling him to Spurs. {Ed049's Note - We are not considering of selling Sterling to Spurs, Don't believe everything you read.}

Ive heard he is about to sign a new long term contract with us so as the ed says dont believe media bs.....steve ynwa

Just because someone makes up a rumour that Spurs were thinking of making a bid for him, does not mean we are looking to sell him.
If you can't figure that out, then you have serious issues.
Don't trust all that you read in the media!!

Liverpool football club are a great team!
Our manager brenden Rodgers is a great man!
He's a perfect manager for Liverpool, he's Respectful an extremely skilled at his job. our owners are trying there best to please the fans, no we don't have 200mill to spend on transfers, an yes it would be nice to attract messi Ronaldo hazard an co... But we can't do that without champions league football.
They are signing the players they think are good enough to get us there. If the so called fans don't get behind these players, then no we won't make it. The fans support is what gives new players confidence.
So get behind the boys guys!
YNWA come on Liverpool!

Well said!

Irish Al

Totally agree, our signings of last year were getting huge abuse from our fans all over the social media sites and we wonder why they struggle to perform! I don't read the other fan sites but i cant imagine players are getting battered verbally like they do on here. The pressure is on before they are even close to signing. Once a player is linked with LFC, if their name isn't along the lines of Messi then they are in for a rough ride. Why not try to support the players linked, or coming to the club and give them the chance to shine. Going over signings of the last decade there are only a handful of superstar names, and they didn't necessarily come to the club with that title. There are regular posters who do back the club and its business on this site, and I solute you, but it seems to be 90% doom and gloom, Bloody grow up, put the x box controller down and sing as loud as you can at the games. Let the squad know the Kop is alive and backing our team in the struggle back to the champions league contention, that is our realistic highest target.

We will only spend a net total of £11m

Summer signings will be;

Fabio Borini - £10.5m done
Joe Allen - £12.5m
Clint Dempsey - £3m + Adam
Mesut Ozil - on loan
Manuel Fernandes - £7m
= £33m

Kuyt - £0.5m
Bellamy - £2m
Spearing - £2.5m
Carroll - £17m
= £22m

Reina
Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique
Lucas, Allen
Gerrard
Ozil, Suarez, Dempsey

doni, kelly, coates, henderson, fernanades/shelvey, downing, borini.

Why would Madrid send Ozil on loan? If they buy Modric, he will likely replace Kedeira in the starting 11. Besides, there would be plenty of teams willing to buy Ozil outright if he was available.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

Would be unreal. Unfortunately Ozil ain't happening.
CQ

Obviously we won't have to pay any of Ozils wages and no fee up front which is why the net is 11m or am I wrong. They are going to let us have him for 1 season for FREE. If I was a Madrid fan I'd be calling for Jose, the Great one, almost invincible head.

Ben

05 Aug 2012 03:04:32
If we can get rid of Carroll,Adam and Spearing whilst keeping the likes of Bellamy,Suarez,Agger and Srktel i think Rodgers will have us fighting for a champions league spot.We really dont need Adam and Spearing if we end up with Allen,Lucas and Henderson now playing in the middle.Henderson was never going to be a right winger and Adam and Spearing cough up the ball far too easily. As for Carroll, how can 5-6 decent games in 18 months justify a 35mil transfer fee and warrant another chance under a new manager. If he was that good,we wouldnt be considering a loan-2-buy deal to bloody west ham!! A 35mil player should have the likes of man city, man u,chelsea, real, barca and psg looking to atleast inquire about him.Read between the lines,Rodgers said a 35mil player should be able to play in any system,he answered the question, and if Rodgers doesnt want him then neither should we.

05 Aug 2012 01:51:43
with all this doom and gloom about next season, is everyone overlooking the fact that we are building for the future, henderson, kelly, robinson, shelvey, sterling, coates, allen (if he signs) all under 23 im sure ive missed some out suso, morgan etc the futures bright the futures red

Everyone knows coates is suspect and won't make an established LFC player

Great post. Been a while since the youth has been this promising. Rogers is the right manager to bring these players through as well in my opinion.

Apart from you, I don't know a single person that thinks Coates is suspect and won't make it as an established LFC player.
He was wanted by a host of top teams and was also player of the tournament at the recent copa america.

You're the sort of person who probably booed Lucas and said he wasn't good enough and are now saying he is one of our best players.

How about supporting all LFC players and staff for a change and giving everyone some confidence rather than being on their backs all the damn time??

Hi Ed's do you have any information who the potential loan signings could be? Thanks!

JJ86 {Ed049's Note - No}

04 Aug 2012 23:58:24
Dear eds, Do you believe a major loan signing will be made by the club? Who is the most likely? {Ed049's Note - I believe Yes, impossible to guess who it will be.}

05 Aug 2012 12:35:49
If he plays for one of the big 2 in Spain and we know Macca knows what major is so have your pick:
kaka, higuain, alonso, David villa, ozil.

In my opinion unless Madrid buy another striker it's not higuain and in my opinion ozil is never happening. Alonso is also unlikely as he is the top man at Madrid. That leaves villa or kaka.

I dont understand why so many fans are so negative; chelsea just played a very strong side (including hazard, torres, lampard, cech etc.) against brighton and lost 3-1 whereas we played an average side without 3/4 key players and won 1-0. Lets be patient because patience is going to be key. Its taken years for barcelona to build a team as it is does not happen overnight. Lets be supportive and get behind the team!

Cheers

Sam

3/4 key players....based on our transfer speculation we are missing Graham, Lita, Sinclair, Williams,Vorm,Allen, and a swan on our chest. So 7 key players! Wait a minute.......

^^^^^^ that made me chuckle!

Mail on Sunday rumour on BBC site that BR looking at Swansea's Ashley Williams as a replacement for Agger. Oh yeah, and that he wants the new stadium to be built in Wales, the team to play in white and the club to change its name to...

Enough with the Swansea players already, Jesus Christ.

Good one buddy you have the whole site laughing...!

BR must end his obsession with Swansea's players!! Why did he even home here if he wants "all" his former players?

My Girlfiend's mum's niece's cousin, best friend's mum is the tea lady at Anfield and she's heard that Leo Messi is to BR's next signing! ;)

YNWA

Steve Gerrard, Gerrard, he's fit and his foochin 'ard,
he'll score from 40 yards, Steve Gerrard, Gerrard!

Seriously though....
Possible INS:
Allen = good signing
Dempsey= good signing
Ramirez = bit of an unknown to me, but he cant be worse than Downing so thumbs up!

Possible OUTS:
Carrol = dont see it happening, but IF it does it WILL come back to haunt us! GUARENTEED! The boy needs a chance for crying out loud, time the support got behind him!
Adam = no great loss....lets be honest!
Agger = Only plays half the season anyway, replace him with a cheaper CB whos just as good.
Skrtel = if he wants away let him go, we only want players that want to bleed, sweat and cry for this club, if they dont....bye bye.

I know everyone wants top name signings, but the reality is we have a good foundation to build on,and if we can get the team playing together and well and maybe add a couple of good signings then we CAN challenge for that top 4, newcastle came close last year with a decent team and no huge name signings...i mean who the F**k knew who Cisse was or how good he was/would be until he started banging them in from all angles/distances!! Have faith in BR and the lads, get behind them 100% from the whistle and who knows what can happen...its a new season folks!! :)

Your girlfriends mums niece would be your girlfriends cousin.

Skrtel doesn't bleed anyway, or cry , Martin Skrtel's he's so hard he makes onions cry.

You think Andy Carroll is worth keeping yet Agger should be sold and a cheap replacement will easily be found?!

Inside scoop, the reds are struggling for money...Rodgers has 20m plus what he brings in. He has also been asked if poss to keep wage outlay flat. Good news is Rodgers is up for it. His priority is Allen right now.

So we are 'cash strapped', and have to sell to buy.
Let the auction of LFC's best commence.
Still think FSG have money, well maybe not.

Rogers maybe up for it but
is the fans
is the club

05 Aug 2012 11:52:05
If he's already got 20m, sells Carroll for 20 mill, that's 40 mill. Buy Allen for 15 mill, Raimrez for 14-16 mill swap Adam for Dempsey. Hopefully the loan signing Macca and BR were talking about will be a forward.

Ins and outs IMO

Adam
Spearing
Bellers (I would like him to stay)
Carroll (I would give him another year)

Ins

Allen
Raimrez (hopefully)
Dempsey (maybe)
A striker on loan (hopefully Callejon or Tello)

Most importantly, we need to keep the players we have.

So ibra is over rated, how come he has won every national league apart from last season with milan, that includes playing with thee different italian clubs juve, inter and milan and the last season he have been top goalscoorer cant really solve that equation...

Because he thinks he is the best there is and is a cocky and conceited man who is greatly over paid.

Theres no doubt he is a great player but he has failed to show it regularly in the format's that we see in this country i.e Champions League and international tournaments. That, along with his huge ego is why I think most british fans don't rate him as one of the very best

Gav

If he played for us, we would think differently. {Ed049's Note - that's the human mentality mate}

Because at the end of the day he's just a rich man's Crouch! Anyway, you say he won all the top leagues, but did you look at who else he was playing with? Hardly a one man effort on his part like Maradona was with Napoli...

04 Aug 2012 23:30:32
So GB are knocked out, let all the "allen to sign mark my word", "butland to sign, trust me", "Ed's do you know what's happening to sinclar?!", "bellemy to sign for cardiff my sources on twitter told me","ryan gigs to replace downing who's going to santos in return for nyamar to real in return for ranaldo to us" begin!

04 Aug 2012 23:28:53
If agger goes and big bren goes for Ashley Williams,i'll be very disappointed....joe allen is enough from his old team..

Theres no doubt aggers class but hes all ways picking up stupid injurys, maybe taking the dough for him now aint such a bad idea, seb coates is gonna be a giant for us,and theres plenty of lads of equal potential just waiting for the chance, out of martin and daniel i would sooner keep martin as he doesnt get injured so much.

Maybe LFC should just relocate to the Millenium stadium, that way we would have a 72K stadium and BR would be back in Wales (Cardiff but not Swansea).
Give me a break.

LFC are struggling with budgets

20M for Agger for LFC makes financial sesnse not footballing sense

We are a brand that has budgets that will impact on the team like it or not!

05 Aug 2012 00:01:21
Does anyone else not find it really sad how much we've fallen since 2009? I know a lot of people talk about this, and you get the unrealistic predictions and comments about what could or should have been, but seriously, we were four points off winning the title in the 2008/2009 season, with a superior goal difference. I know it's very easy and perhaps naive to say 'if...', but in perspective, if we just won two of the matches we drew, we would have won the title, and where would we be now? I just think it's very easy to forget how ridiculously close we were, but how we have fallen since then.

It's not all bad, however. If we can keep hold of our current players, then realistically we are 3 players of genuine talent away from the top 4. We've heard it all before, but we desperately need two fast wingers and a creative midfielder, because those are the only areas where we cannot compete with the best clubs in the league:

GK: only Hart is better than Reina (beginning a trend of inevitable comparison with Man City)
DEF: for me, we're better than any team in the league here. Man City have the best CB in Kompany, and perhaps a better LB in Clichy, but Johnson is, in my opinion, the best RB in the league, and Agger and Skrtel are a brilliant partnership, whereas for Man City, Lescott is simply not good enough.
CM: slightly different formations/systems, but Lucas is better than Barry. Unfortunately we don't have a Yaya Toure player, because he's one of the best in the world. We do, however, have Steven Gerrard, who is still incredible and capable of doing a job as he aptly demonstrated at the Euros where he was our only good player.
Wide/CAM: this is where we're lacking. I don't even think we have any players capable of playing in these positions properly (excluding Gerrard as a CAM). We need three players here.
Attack: Suarez, Borini, Carroll, Bellamy. If two of those 4 go, then they obviously need replacing; Suarez can compete with anyone and is world class, but apart from him we're not great here. Hopefully Borini can be clinical, but if you compare it to other teams it's simply not good enough. Still, in Carroll (who hopefully stays) and Borini we've two very young players with high potential.

My final two points sort of links in with the first really. Whilst we are a little below City, United, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal (we're better than Newcastle in my opinion), I was just thinking about some of the players we've had over the past few years. It really wasn't long ago that our first XI often included Poulsen, Konchesky, N'Gog, Jovanovic etc.

BUT on the other hand, imagine this as a team:

Reina

Johnson Agger Skrtel Enrique

Alonso Lucas/Mascherano

Suarez Gerrard Meireles

Torres

Now that's not some unrealistic team I've put together, nor is it based around absurd demands that FSG go and buy Cavani, Hulk etc. That is a team of Liverpool players over the past 3 years, and the only team equal to or maybe slightly better than that would be Man City, but there would be hardly any difference. Just imagine where we'd be with that team now.

Thanks.

Meireles as LW? Are you crazy?

BthekingB

I agree with the point that your making but it was the off field issues that provided the catalyst for our drop from 2nd to 8th. i also think that it was the fact that short term aim was our goal (what i mean is that the wages we were giving out were great in the short term such as the first 3 or 4 seasons, but were just not sustainable for the club in the long run). i have a feeling spurs will go down the same road.
on a different note; would we have bought mereiles when we had alonso and mascerano ?
derryred

Great post. I think in that season we finished second we may have won it IF we had a decent second striker. Just imagine if we had pursued with Keane and he'd have come good, or it Suarez had come a couple of years area.

My only concern is pretty soon we're gonna have to replace Gerrard, and I am sceptical about whether we can attract players of the calibre of Alonso, Mascherano, Torres etc any more....

Hopefully we can 'outmanoeuvre' other teams with more money than us. I was made up when Commolli came in because I thought he'd do a fantastic job in sourcing and signing young talent. Unfortunately that didn't work out, lets hope Rodgers can find the players and style to take us back to the top (or at the very least, four points off the top!) Sorry gotta admit it though, I would have loved to have seen Benitez back. Rodgers has my full support tho!

BthekingB- obviously I wouldn't have Meireles at LW; the formation isn't particularly important, but I suppose you could look at it as a 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-2-2 with two or three attacking midfielders, but I always find such formations oversimplified and many people think they're as simple as they are on FIFA.

Derryred... Good point about Meireles, and the answer is probably no, but he is probably the weakest player in that team (I still rate him very highly) anyway, so in the hypothetical situation that we have the team I put down without Meireles, the person in there instead of him would probably be as good, if not better. Perhaps someone with pace making this team more complete?

You're absolutely right about the second striker; when you look at all of the other top teams, they have AT LEAST two good strikers, and for so long we had a massive reliance on Torres. It's very easy to attack N'Gog, and whilst he wasn't very good, he was nowhere near as bad as people made him out to be; the problem lay in the fact that he was the only real backup to Torres, and well... Not many players in the world would have been able to step into a position with such expectation created by Torres when he was out.

And on your other points- I'm concerned too. It's a very tricky situation... In order to attract top players to get you into the top 4/winning the title, you need to be in the top 4 to attract them in the first place which requires top players... It's tough. However, we DO have the players to do that- it's just a matter of holding onto them so they can get us towards the top of the table and we can then improve the squad even more. But yes, I think these days it's very much a case of Chelsea and Man City spending big, and other teams having to be shrewd, with Newcastle the perfect example, or adopt a very effective philosophy such as Swansea/Arsenal and now, hopefully, us. I too fully back Brendan Rodgers and here's hoping he can implement a winning philosophy.

We have been declining a lot longer!.

Mate we didnt win an awful lot of trophies with any of those players.

I know what your saying but when u say where would we be no the answer is we wouldn't be here as the 2 cowboys almost took us under we couldn't carry on the way we were going & survive , i know it all looked good back then but I'm just over the moon that our great club survived thanks to fsg & chin up we aren't as bad as some people on here make out we aren't far off being back in the top 4 then we can push on ...... Steve ynwa

You all make perfectly valid and correct points about off-the-field issues, and I am fully aware of them, but this post was really just a thought I had, and obviously those players aren't going to come back, but hopefully we can rebuild. I think considering we're not going to be able to attract players already at that caliber, it is important that we act very shrewdly and intelligently in the transfer market to develop a long-term, sustainable plan based around the nurturing of players we've already got such as Suso and Sterling, as well as the purchase of some new additions such as Borini. And to the guy who said we didn't win a lot of trophies; well, that team was never fully together unfortunately, but there was the small matter of the Champions' League being won, then being in another final (slightly earlier I know but still, the point is there.)
