Agree0 Disagree0

Dalglish inherited the Paisley era - then when it went wrong went for Blackburn millions - Great, great player but never a Manager

Agree0 Disagree0

Dalglish took over from Joe Fagan not Sir Bob but he did inherit a very good team

Agree0 Disagree0

Dalglish managed the finest Liverpool side in history, Barnes, Beardsley, Aldo era. Pity we were banned from Europe at that time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dalglish was one of the most gifted players ever to pull on a red shirt. He also managed one of the finest Liverpool teams ever, won everything possible, then went to lowly blackburn and won the title with them. On his return from exile in his FIRST season back in management, he came to a once proud football club that was in tatters after the hodgson era and made us proud to be supporters. He took us to wembley 3 times in his first season including both the FA Cup and League Cup. He also took us back into Europe in his first season.

The man is an absolute legend in my view, and every supporter owes him a debt, he is one of us and has served the club brilliantly. that's why we call him King Kenny.

When I read pathetic posts from so called 'LFC supporters' slagging off Kenny, it makes me sick. Get a life keyboard warriors, you are not real supporters and never will be.

I know its early on, but to be honest I think Brendan Rodgers is the man to take us forward if he does well in the summer.
We can all agree, he was better than Hodgson, but I don't know if he was better than Dalglish, have to wait till next season for that.

Yes Rodgers is better then Dalglish, after all Rodgers has won 4 league titles numerous FA cups and carling cups, oh wait Rodgers was sacked by watford and reading haha!

Agree0 Disagree0

Daglish was living in the past! I wasn't born in the 80's but he clearly wasn't the right man for the job.

He played a flat 442! That system was found out about 10 years ago.

Furthermore he thought it was the 80's reborn with the big man and wee man partnership only this time it was Carroll and suarez and not daglish and rush.

I'm going to get a lot of abuse for this but look at what he done with transfers. He bought British players with crazy fees! That may have worked with Blackburn and his first spell at Liverpool but the game has changed. Just as an example: downing 20m
Carroll 35m
Hend 16m
Adam 9m

Now you would get something like a third for each with the exception of Henderson who has performed really well this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Houlliers 1st season 14 defeats, rafa's 1st season 14 defeats, dalglish 1st season 14 defeats, rodgers 1st season 9 defeats

lads, been Liverpool throughout the years. 43 now (need that bobby charlton weave to be honest). just 1 question. what does downing bring to this team. see him cutting inside, breakin up play now and again but nothing major. is it shop window? hope so. Liverpool are getting there no doubt. henersons havin a go, which is good to see. runs like a chicken on heat but at least he's trying. ito be honest i'd rather have glender going forward and cuttin in. before the clowns say downing is covering his moves, think about it. right back. right midfield. downings no winger. mark walters was better and he fell over more times then my ma. all i'm sayin is a couple of little tweeks here and there. not a bad team lads. by the way couthinio. little gem. credit where credits due for brenden. he's a blagger lads but give him a bit of time. the fans believed shankley because he give belief. blagger if you want to call it. but it made Liverpool what is is now. i'm a scouser so i'm tryin to speak from the heart. by the way. don't start all the dung sayin your all supporters, doesn't matter where your from. a scoucers is a scoucer. red or blue. bred into you. Liverpool fc wouldn't be who they are without fans. i'm a Liverpool fan lads, go the game when I can but it's bred in me. not plassy. SEE.

Rodgers career-O trophys as manager haha

Ferguson is most successful manager in world football and mostly plays 4-4-2!

Agree0 Disagree0

Manchester United certainly do not play 4-4-2 no name. Although formations are very fluid these days and too much is made of them. It is more about tactics on the pitch than the formation itself.

KiwiRed

Agree0 Disagree0

Fergie never plays a flat 442 anymore. Kagawa comes inside! Rooney isn't even a number 10 these days he plays so deep.

Fergie good in pl but 2 european cups in 30 seasons with all the finance at his disposal, not great.

If Liverpool are leading tomorrow and get a pen, let's give it to Carra!

Walt J

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No its a competative match

Agree0 Disagree0

Carra would say no like he did against Swansea

Agree0 Disagree0

To the person wo thinks Carra is rubbish at pens. Do you support Liverpool he is a spot kick specialist.
During 2010 it was known that England were taking major pen training and Carragher was the only player to not miss.

What a muppet.

Agree0 Disagree0

He wouldn't miss wearing an Everton top. The lad's a Bitter, that's why he's so aggressive and scowls all the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can we move on from Carra, I have no issue with the lad but the fact is, he would not have got a game in one of our sides that won a title. He happens to have been around when we have been poor.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was arguably the best central defender in Europe in 2005, one of the main reasons we became European Champions, Cara deserves a mention as one of our all time elite defenders - you do him a massive injustice suggesting he can not stand shoulder to shoulder with title winning teams defenders.

Liverpool will not stand in reina's way if Barcelona come in with a bid of around £10m, the same applies for athletico madrid. what seems certain is that pepe reina's Liverpool career will come to an end in the next few weeks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Certain rubbish

Agree0 Disagree0

04 May 2013 15:33:06
With carra retiring and possible reina leaving for pastures new, we are going to lose to massive characters and leaders from the team. with all the names being branded about as possible replacements for carra, none in my opinion are worthy candidates.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Carra wasn't even in the team last year and we had one of the best defensive records in the league! I'd sign alderwield plus we have Kelly Wisdom and Sama. Perhaps buy Gustavo as he can play CB LB DM and that would be the defense sorted.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not the fact that he won't be playing that will be the problem. The mans presence brings so much more to the club and the players. He WILL be missed!

Hi eds, any idea what's happened to Henoc Mukendi? He spent the first half of the season on loan at Northampton, didn't do much, returned to Liverpool but hasn't played for the U18s or U21s since, and I haven't seen anything about him leaving for anyone else or being released. We only gave him a new deal last summer. He was tweeting his support for Sheffield United last night. Could he be on trial there? {Ed001's Note - he was on the bench for the U21s game against Arsenal, he just hasn't been able to break into the team.}

Ed01 - Shelvey, Rodgers obviously believes he has the ability as do many. I remember watching the Liverpool program and hearing Rodgers pull him to one side and tell him he's got it all.
He comes over to me as a player who has a lot of swagger and even to the point that he thinks he's already made it. just pull my hair out with me because he's beyond his years in terms of ability and build.
So what's happened? Rodgers has seen the same as most and is questioning his desire and hunger? I'd just hate for us to let him go and he go on to be an awesome player.
Cheers
Prendergel {Ed001's Note - he had a dip in form following his sending off and lost his place, nothing else to it. There is an issue with him wanting to play first team football and not getting it with us, but it is up to him to earn it, in my opinion.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think a year out on loan would do him the world of good. needs a season of regular football.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2013 00:25:48
I thought it might be a attitude problem, but I've seen him playing for the u21, and we had a player sent off, shelvey was ask to play full back and it reminded me of stevie g, when he played full back, he was standing out, and control the game, he has the ability and attitude to be a Liverpool stalwart! I just think he will be stevie's long term replacement, the problem is he has to wait till stevie retires, I, m not saying he going to be as good, because I wouldn't want to put too much pessure on his young shoulders, as we must not forget he is still 21! So maybe a year on loan at a prem club, in the ilk of a swansea, wigan (if not relegated), southampton, or maybe brendan gives him a fair few games next season! But I think he is our most talented youngster, so I just hope brendan doesn't sell him for stupid amount, because he will be worth at least £20m in a few years! Keep the faith jonjo and your chance will come! Y*N*W*A

What positions do you feel Liverpool will strenghthen in the summer Eds.

I think:

Two centre backs
A Centre midfielder
A winger
A Striker

Irishdom

Believable0 Unbelievable0

CB: Alderwield 6-8m or Sakho
CB LB DM: Gustavo 7-10m or Wanyama
AM: Eriksen 12-17m or Honda
Winger: Gaitan 10-15m or Ben Arfa
ST: soldado 12-15m or Remy

They'd be my first choice with the other a back up and obviously a lot of outgoings to cover that.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only way i'd take ben arfa is on a free. that guy is guarenteed to miss atleast 10-15 matches through injury alone

Well this season is coming to a close, hope that we pick up micah richards up on the quiet with a guarantee of first team football, then wanyama from celtic and di maria hold on to all our key players and maybe a couple of youngsters and we will be ready early on and if we get a place in the europa get our players match fit for the opening fixture. Hopefully we can get a good six fixtures avoiding the big five and we could well be the mix for top four come next season end. Just need to see off the blues off tomorrow and look forward after a season of development and improvement.

I expect 3 wins to end with 63 points this season, which is a 10-point improvement over last season's tally of 52 points. Then if we can carry this same 10-point improvement for next season, we'll in the top 4.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You can't equate a possible 10 point swing this season compared to the last because of the off field problems coupled with getting to two Cup Finals, football doesn't work that way, that point swing is false ( if it happens ) anyway because of the reasons i've stated above, also 10 point swings don't happen season on season, if they did you could say we will be Champions in 3 seasons time. A bit of a fanciful post lad TBH.

Waro

p. s. 63 points compared to 52 points is an 11 point swing BTW

Agree0 Disagree0

What a surprise waro being negative again, haven't seen that before, cheer up we are improve open your eyes lad!

ben

Agree0 Disagree0

Fanciful post? I don't think so. Yes we were in 2 cup finals, but we didn't have Europa League last season, which we were involved in this season. That plus the summer transfer fiasco, tough start to the season, new players and youths adjusting to a new style of play. I'd say a ten point improvement over last season would be very good.

And yes, I can count - it's 11 points if we reach 63. I was making a general point about improving by 10 points each season. We had too many draws this season. If we can convert more draws into wins, we'll get there.

Agree0 Disagree0

If it only was that simple singred.
Roy

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a feeling singred, that two cup finals took up more of our time, then getting knocked out of the europa league in feb.

Last season was a better season, no doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ben it's negative to you but realism to me, your opinion is we have improved mine is we have done know better than last season, just depends how you equate success, mine is what you win not a small points increase, you've got your opinion i've got mine, just as you call me negative I could say your desperate, your desperately grasping for any crumb of comfort to think we have improved.

I'm hoping next season is were we see the improvement, with BR getting to grips with the size of the club he's managing and learning from mistakes he's made this season, fingers crossed he moves us forward, top 5 and maybe a good cup run would constitute improvement.

Waro

p. s. Oh and Ben don't react to a post because of the name at the bottom of it, read it and disagree if you wish, but only if you are disagreeing with the content not the person posting it

Agree0 Disagree0

73 points next season Singred yeah? 83 in 2015, 93 in 2016. What a joker! Waro - spot on mate. No progress made this year and the most depressing season since Souness. Even the Hodgson season was more exciting than this one due to the fact that Dalglish returned.

DOWNING IS crap :
reasons why:
in 88 apperances for Liverpool he has score 7 goals and assisted 11 times, that's 18 put together for the 20 million man. (up to date stats)
he is 29 in july limiting what the club can get out of him
even though he is in ok form this season, we need a decent winger, remember those days of dirk kuyt: 71 goals in 208 games for Liverpool with numerous assists.

another thing, downing at least has a record:
He became the first player in seven years to miss three consecutive penalty kicks in the Premier League. In that same season 2011-12 he played 36 pl games and got 0 assists and goals.
Bottom line, he was a mistake buy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

WOW you're the first person to ever say that on this site, give yourself a pat on the back for pointing that out.

BUT a mistake is the wrong word you're looking for mate. they did know it was downing they were buying.

Agree0 Disagree0

5 goals and 9 assists this season, I don't think that's a pretty bad return. So what if he was rubbish last season? It's this season that counts and he's done alright I think. He's worked hard and I think he deserves to stay in the squad. We need to add depth after all, and in my opinion Downing is a player we should have available. It's also worth noting he has, on numerous occasions this season, been a big help to Johnson by operating defensively and tracking back to help out. I can understand why you don't like him, but I don't understand why you're stating the obvious that everyone knows - Yes, he was expensive and in retrospect wasn't a wise buy, but at least he's helping now. Some of his assists have been vital.

Hi fellow Reds & Eds,

As the season is close to being over, who would you say is the most improved player this year?

Henderson, Downing, Enrique? You could also say Gerrard as he wasnt as good last season as he is this in my opinion. Suarez has also improved a lot on last year bar the 'incident'.

Who has gone down in your opinion? Skrtel, JonJonJo?

Your thoughts would be good. Eds (any of them would be nice to have your input & if you think Rodgers has improved the players this season?

does any one know how matias suarez is doing since coming back from injury, could be a steel, I think his contract is up this summer. christian tello apparently has a 7 million release clause. these two players would be sensational additions to our squad. hopefully tello is looking at coutinho at Liverpool. tello is a br type of signing.
am and dominant center back and we are in business.
next season top 4 is a must. take first 10 games out of this season, and we have done well. with added fire power I can see us flying next season.
not Liverpool related, but what is the reason for huge gulf in pl sides and top european sides. man u is the most dominant side in pl this last 20 years, dormund not exactly big name club can win second cl in 15 years, same as man u. are english club players overpaid.
look at the likes of bobby charlton, money means nothing to him, man u to the bone, a gentleman and a real legend. now man u have rooney, threatened to go to man city unless he got more money.
we have suarez, now can you imagine kenny daglish biting an opponent. tevez going on stike at man city, the list goes on.

This summer I think a bit of a clear out is needed if we are going to really challenge for top four next year, I think we should definitely sell Shelvey (5m), Skrtel (8m), Spearing (4m), Carroll ( (could replace Cavani for Napoli) 15m), Coates (7m) and possibly offload Allen (8m) and Suso (loan). Carra is of course retiring.

This adds up to £39million (47 with Allen) most of which would be used, I believe, for our own transfers to add to our £25million budget to make about £55 million

With this I would get 2 CB's (Sakho and Alderwield), 1CDM (Matic of Benfica to cover for Lucas), one winger (Narsingh from PSV) and a Striker to play with Sturridge or, if he picks up a knock, Borini while Suarez's banned (Esswein from Nurnenburg)

Which of these deals are likely if any, how much would they be, and are any likely to move elsewhere?

Thanks

i think we should wait until the end of the season before making all these bold transfer predictions. iam sure that players like borini, shelvey, wisdom, etc will get a shot to prove themselves. I don't think we should spend crazy money when we may have the solution in the reserves. I think ibe, texieira, wisdom, and suso will have a part to play next season especially if we do get Europa league through fair play. we'll definitely need an experienced leader for centre back with carra retiring but other than that we look pretty good.

we need to be realistic we are not ready for the cl next season, I have been unhappy this season but I now realize that we are on the up. we took step 1 this season in the summer we have to sell coates/assaidi/carroll and proberly skrtl. br stated that he needs 4 players I guess he wants 2 defenders to replace carra and skrtl, kelly/wisdom can cover for coates. I guess he wants a player like eriksen to dominate the midfield and give gerrard a rest, and he will send shelvey/suso out on loan to get some more expierence. assaidi will be replaced with a winger/striker with the same impact sturridge has made. carroll has already been replaced when sturridge was bought. next season we will make cl I am 100% sure if we get the summer transfer right. step 3 will be at the end of next season, br will have seen if downing/henderson/sterling have stepped up. anyone that has seen the under 21 this season can see that ibe is the real deal and will knocking on the first team door soon. and we have a few more mclaughlin/sinclair. I am 100% sure that we are on the right track, we are in 7th position but the players seem to be happy because they feel they are on the way up. from sunny malta

You reckon they'll improve on where they end up this year Basics? ;-)

5th but really hoping for 4th but depends on signings and if we get off to a good start no reason why 4th isn't a possibility.

Just watched the derby from earlier in the season. No matter what the result today I feel Brendan is right and we are improving all the time. The team now seems to be more settled. I can't wait for a few summer buys and steady improvement over the next few seasons. There are plenty of top players in the under 21s to develope. I am happy with this approach to team building rather than buying for instant success.

This fascination with James McCarthy has got to stop, seriously we need experience we already have henderson, shelvey, allen and spearing (granted spearing will most likely be sold but that's not guaranteed)

He is a good player, has transformed the Irish midfield (I know) but like you said unless we sell some of our younger midfielders we might get the bottleneck effect.
