So, just for giggles, say we sign Can, Lallana and Moreno to go with Lambert. What other positions would you like to see filled and by who? Realistic ones of course. I would like Lovren (and Illori back) to replace Skrtle and Agger and young Will Hughes to come in and get some game time along with Texiera and, hopefully, Suso.

LW is a must. Sterling won't last 40 games next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 21:55:59
I think Can could be a potential replacement for Gerrard.

A powerful player that can go from box to box. Very happy with this probable signing.

Because of his position I don't think that he is recognised as much as other German's like Draxler or Meyer. However, I feel he has the potential to be a world beater and at 9.75 mil supposedly!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well, if anyone can, can can.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he Can.

There will only ever be 1 Gerrard. It is better to try and replace his role in the team, than trying to emulate a legend.

Cheers Ed. Are Spurs interested in Moreno by the way?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps.}

BigRedF .of cause spurs are interested in Moreno .because we are .

Agree0 Disagree0

Is that to say you don't know of interest but it is plausible?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Lots of things are plausible. Why not think before asking these ridiculous questions?}

Lazy journalism you guys see yourselves linked witha decent player and when anyone else is linked you lose the head and if I had to guess your all young very young

Eds, if the reports about Tottenham trying to 'hijack' the deal for Moreno are true, do you think Moreno would want to join them when they don't have champions league?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea.}

04 Jun 2014 23:02:32
I thought we swated that fly once and for all.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no such thing as 'hijacking' a deal, such an overused cliched phrase that every clubs fans use to explain when a player/club accepts another offer from another team.

Eds fellow reds, sterling straight red, Not for me but misses next 3 games

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No he doesnt

Agree0 Disagree0

3 games? from a friendly?

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 21:55:41
No he doesn't. It's a friendly, it doesn't count towards the World Cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry guys, meant the 3 match ban as a question not as a fact

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely not a red card but i'm pretty sure he's not suspended whatsoever

Agree0 Disagree0

If it was in an important game, could that be turned away by authorities? Probably not, as Sterling's tackle was quite high. However, in a friendly, the ref should be more lenient. I was happy that Sterling was morally above Valencia there.

Hi Eds and reds,

Can anyone confirm how good Can is? Would love to hear ed2's opinion if he doesn't mind. If not, anyone else no what he's like?

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is young and much is thought of him. I am not sure he would be straight in to the first team as a regular.}

Would love to hear what Sami thinks of the move considering he was his gaffer.

Agree0 Disagree0

You don't think he will be in the first team Ed? I thought he would certainly be amongst the 15 players on match days surely?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You are making this up - I did not say that - read the post. You should realise how annoying posts like this are.}

Surely Sami's view will then be biased?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Eds I can see what your saying. Didn't mean to sound off or annoying in any way. I was just hoping he would be ready.

Was wondering if anybody else shares my opinion that keeping suso and having him understudy to Gerrard could be a big decision for our future.

I really think he could adapt to become xabi Alonso like, He has time on his side to learn the role, he's not shy of a tackle has fantastic passing abilty capable of playing those long diagnals that gerrard uses to devastating effect, his vision would be best used sitting deep able to see the play infront of him.

That's my view on him, Does any Eds/reds agree or no a reason as to why that wouldn't be a good idea.

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Interesting point, I'd like to see him beside somebody like a tough DM in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Let the "tackler" win the ball back & then you'll have Suso to start the attacks from deep. Any games I've watched play for the U21s his passing is top notch.

Agree0 Disagree0

Understudy Gerrard to become Xabi Alonso like? I think it would be great to get a player that was like the old Gerrard role - a box to box midfielder with a wicked shot from outside the box. Gerrard in his day was like having half of a player extra on the pitch just from his dynamism - breaking forward and tackling back. Maybe that role will be for Can?

Good day! Ed002, Has there been any movement today? As we wait with baited breath.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Bayer Leverkusen has confirmed a bid for Can yesterday.}

I had a movement about 15:20 today.
Everything was normal.

hi eds and reds

if you have read my posts I've said in them I would rather have fabregas instead of lallana, and this is one of the main reasons, lallana has had the siants team built around him since he was in the youth teams, he has had a free role in the team for years and this is what worries me, if he has to play in a certain position left or right or the tip of the diamond then would he be as good and be effective in that position as in the same way he is in the free role, can he be as productive or will he struggle, I think he will struggle for the simple reason all his football positins have be a free role and would BR give him the free role, we know other players struggle when asked to do a different job on the field, like couthino he is better when he is played in a more advanced attacking role, because the city game in which he scored showed he is better more forward, tell me what you think guys

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm afraid I disagree with you here, Mickey. Coutinho has actually found his best form for the club playing in a midfield three with Gerrard and Henderson. The game against City you mention Couts actually played on the right of the midfield diamond and Sterling operated as the no.10. Everton at home, again Coutinho played in a midfield 3. Personally, I think Rodgers feels Lallana is an upgrade on Coutinho (harshly but, equally, rightly so in my book), although I don't think Lallana potentially arriving would mean we got rid of wee Phil. The beauty in each of them is that they can both play as a CM, a CAM (forgive the FIFA acronyms) and on the left, plus on the right in Lallana's case. I reckon Lallana would reach a different level at Liverpool, and I for one am praying we just fork out whatever Southampton want for him, because the boy is THAT good.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 19:54:24
Positive signs with emre, but on a different note. How hasn't sterling started either if England's starting XI!? Danny welbeck and chamberlain start above him! Not going to get stats but would bet money that sterling not only has more goals and assist than them put together, but probably more starts!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Chamberlain is excellent and Welbeck has always done a good job for England. But I agree Sterling should still start ahead of one if not both of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Roy strikes again

Agree0 Disagree0

The ox is a better player in fairness

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh rate both players, but think of any player deserved a chance in this friendlies to prove he is ready the World Cup it was sterling
Is hypothetical but should have started at least one game and given the chance to see if he could play the same way he has all season for lfc

Agree0 Disagree0

Frankly, the ox is a better player atm. having said that we are a boring 442 team with a boring manager. ideally I would play sturridge up front with the ox and sterling either side of him. but let roy do what he wants

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jun 2014 06:48:12
Better player? measured how?

They are both very good players and Sterling is the one form after a particularly good season.

Agree0 Disagree0

@AG

The Ox is more experienced, stronger, more composed, more clinical, has better decision making and fast but not reliant on his pace like RS

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jun 2014 13:19:28
Stronger yea, as fast no! As for more clinical had a quick look and in his arsenal career chamberlain has a total of 9 goals, whilst sterling had 10 last season. I rate the Ox but think sterling is currently the better player and Ox has stagnated a bit because of injuries and a serious lack of game time.
I know he made a mistake but if you watched us this season sterling's decision making is superb and he works harder for the team then oxlade, which is why he should have been used in these friendlies so he can gain experience.
To cap it off, sterling was a key player in a title challenge that went to the wire whereas chamberlain has only been a bit part player in finishing fourth - can mention the cup but he hardly featured and wasn't in the team for the final

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jun 2014 13:42:33
Are you a Liverpool fan. surely nobody who has sat and watched Sterling every week can say he is remotely clinical. I only remember 4 of his goals this season, one was a deflection and he got lucky, one was a tap in, one was a great hit and the last was against city where he got lucky affter faffing around and not taking his chance, englands number one and the best CB in the league both managed to give him an opening

If the Ox hadnt been plagued by injury for some time then he would be head n shoulders above Sterling but I would still say he is better atm

You are right in saying that Sterling is the one on form though but like I said its an irrelevant argument as I would ideally have them both start either side of Sturridge

Emre Can would be a welcome addition to the squad. He looks good in shape and looks a decent player. The fee believed also to be with in our budget. He isn't proven, But the position is so so important.
Its been a decade, We have seen DM charging with the ball and having some flair skills.
I also pray the club to move on from Lallana and show a real intention to Southampton in Bidding for another alternatives.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, Emre Can plays in a few positions and that's what BR likes, and i'm with you on lallana, because I think the saints are asking too much for a player who has had I very good season in the prem, we should learn from andy carrol and stewart downings transfer fee's, because we know with the money we spent opn them we could have had players who were twice as good and for me the same goes with the amount that we are being asked for lallana, the most I would pay for lallana is 25 mill and that's paying over the odds, 20 mill for lallana, soundd about right, ivre said in other posts this transfer deal could drag out till the last day of the window,

is there anyone else in for lallana

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree about Can and would love to see him at the club as he looks versatile and can cover for Gerrard or Henderson.

I disagree about Lallana though. The lad is a terrific player and a match winner on his day. He has been very consistent for a few years now and has had more than one good season. I think this myth exists because Saints only really excelled this season plus England Cap

Hi Eds and Reds. Can anyone tell me why Jordan Rossiter wasn't involved with the England squad at this summers u-17's euro's which England won? I ask this as I thought he was very highly rated. Is he just considered past the stage where he represents the u-17s as he has been playing regular u-21's football all season? Also, does anyone know what stage Samed Yesil is at in his recovery from injury and when he is expected back? All help is appreaciated.

Hi eds, sorry this may be similar to my last post.

Just regarding the interest in emre can. Is he seen to be an alternative to lallana or as well as lallana (or someone in a similar position like shaqiri).

With that said does this suggest Lucas will soon become available?

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Jun 2014 18:00:40
I have a friend in Germany who has played youth football with Emre Can and he is bemused as to why there is not a plethora of teams chasing Emre's signature. My buddy reckons that Emre is made for the Premiership and the versatility people talk about is priceless. He can play the Lucas role, the Gerrard role (when he used to make rampaging runs) and left back and play these respective roles to a very high standard. He reckons that if Emre does come to Liverpool and it's a big IF due to the nature of his contract he will probably replace Lucas. Apparently his game is about tenacity and power. I would be sad to see Lucas go as he has a first class attitude but how will we financially accommodate Lucas, Can, Gerrard, Henderson, Joe Allen, Alberto, Sterling, Coutinho?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Won't pretend I've watched him but I checked out a few clips of him and he does seem quick and strong with a lot of composure.

Hi Eds

Not many posts going up last few days.

Ive just read that Spurs are interested in Moreno offering Saldado on loan for a year, any truth? what's the latest with him please as it also seems to be going on and on?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has not made an acceptable bid yet.}

Please bear in mind that Seville don't want any other players involved in the deal as the have already rejected Suso & Aspas they want money and i'm convinced he will end up a Liverpool player regardless of interest from Spurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - All Liverpool has to do then is offer sufficient money to them.}

Thanks for reply Ed. do you suspect we will meet there valuation or look at other possibilities. Surely he is a first choice and a deal can be reached?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea - they no what they have to do.}

04 Jun 2014 20:14:46

You do not have to give a figure but surely we cannot be that far off from matching what Sevilla are asking for Moreno?

Borini likely to go to Sunderland on a permanent deal, wages the only issue

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hopefully Aspas can follow him out the door so we can get replacements.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 16:48:45
What will he go for 6/7 million will be a loss anyway he's proved to me when I've watched him I'd rather keep him as back up with lambert

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 17:06:02
We already have a replacement in Rickie Lambert.

I would be very surprised if we start next season with 4 senior strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully not. I think Borini should stay and be given some play time. He is a good eye for goal and we need 4 plus proven goal scorers. he may not get us 20 but I think he would easily net over 10-15 while being rotated

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will need 4 strikers

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Gareth.

Agree0 Disagree0

If these penny pinching owners are looking to raise money for players then they should have done what I suggested on this site some 18 months ago, and sell Lucas and Johnson as well, they would have received around £20-25million then, you would be lucky to get £10million now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with dubred68 we need 4 strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

I continue to be astounded by the term 'penny pinching' when you mention the owners, Waro. It's almost like you don't bother to read the yearly financial statements. £70M in loans made to the club via UKSV as of May 2013. How much should they loan then? £100M? £200M?

FSG are keeping the club solvent at no little cost to themselves and yet all you can do is complain about them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly RDL £70million in LOANS, borrowing money against the club and not putting in there own vast wealth, is that not the work of " Venture Capitalist's "? Whilst no doubt paying themselves a vastly inordinate yearly sum for being on the board.

I don't want loans on the club, that's what the other two did, I wanted these leeches to put there own money up but just like the last set of leeches there to shrewd to do that, but that's why there billionaires I suppose, they are probably not far off the combined wealth of Abramovich but don't want to spend it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah, see, and the UKSV debt would be a valid argument against the owners that you could make which might come across less antagonistic. Why have they not converted the loans into shares? It's a fair question, to be honest, and it'll be interesting to see if they ever do so.

That said, 'leeches' and some of the other stuff is just a bit over the top ridiculous for me. I really do think you can frame your anti-FSG message a bit better is all as there are some valid points to be made rather than the name calling.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Waro. I guarantee that come the end of the summer, there'll be nominal net spend. Nothing but venture capitalists. I've said in a previous post that I felt there penny pinching in Jan cost us the league. I knew after the City game with no Hendo or Sturridge against Chelsea that we had nothing in terms of cover. Kono or Salah may have been the difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah pipe down Ozone. We were meant to have already been relegated three times by your predictions. Some people get no enjoyment from football.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 22:47:09
I admit RDL my venom toward these owners would be much much less toxic if it hadn't been for the other two cowboys, once bitten I suppose.

Carefully Ozone lad, the site will go into meltdown if were both involved in the same thread, haha, but were in the minority mate, just hope ultimately were both wrong in the long run but I'm pretty sure we won't be.

Pleased with he Can transfer though and for a penny pinching amount of £9mill, not bad eh! Does this mean we've overpaid for Lambert? I'm confused ;) your right not to talk money Ed002 it wrecks your head thinking about it.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ Ozone
Who could we have bought to win us the league so in Jan? Who wouldn't the owners stump up the cash for?
IMO, Arsene Wenger's penny pinching cost Arsenal the league. If he had purchased a good striker to compete with Giroud long term and at least rotate short term then I think they could have won it.

@Waro
Hicks & Gillett era was great wasn't it? Oh no wait Fsg saved the club from them and we've been progressing ever since.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool offered the money for Kono. His club did not want to sell. Salah wanted to go to Chelsea. Its all well documented but some people don't want to beleive the truth so they can continue to spout rubbish.

I have to say I will be disappointed if we sign a 'first team' right back. It will be a big kick in the teeth for Flanno who, let's not forget has just had a great season.

If we sign a left back it means he will likely not start at left back so he MUST start at right back. He's worked hard, he deserves it.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Whilst I agree flanno exceeded expectations and had a good season I still don't think he is ready to be our number right or left back consistently. He is excellent as backup for the time being

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Flanno was terrific but looked tired on a couple of occasions, so it is more likely that (with us competing on so many fronts) he'll be on the bench at points but also starting in some competitions on either flank at the back. We all know BR loves a player capable of playing in more than one position so Flanno is going to be used this coming year.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 16:05:25
Flanno should def get the chance to make rightback his own. Brilliant player so we don't need a right back imo, unless maybe people leave etc

Agree0 Disagree0

Ya I agree with both Jgs92 and Reynard.

Puzzled Red - would you prefer us to sign a LB who isn't better than Flanagan or not sign one at all?

I do not see us going for a RB but we're obviously going for a LB. In terms of my opinion on him for RB, assuming we don't sign anyone, then I would say he deserves to start if Johnson does not improve. If Johnson improves and plays as he is capable of then he should start.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would rather see wisdom at rb with flanno as back up because I always felt he was ahead of flanno slight bit and sell johnson or give him away unless he starts defending .

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 17:07:38
With Johnson likely staying, I think it will be between him and Flanagan to see who gets to be first choice. Depending on how Flanagan performs next season, we may or may not bring in a RB the season after next.

Agree0 Disagree0

He may deserve first spot guys but we have a lot more games to play for this season so we will need another good right back to play for that 1st sport

Agree0 Disagree0

The titanic turns quicker than flanno & the only thing going for him is most opponents will bottle tackles with him

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe we will buy a right back with a view to moving Johnson to left back for a season (or use Flanagan) if we feel the money for a left back is too much.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 18:40:22
Fanatic viewer, I don't think you've been viewing the games fanatically enough if you truly believe that statement about Flanagan. The greatest attacking right-back I've ever seen is a massive fan of his. I think I'll stick with Cafu's judgement rather than yours.

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe flanagan was one of the reasons why we had such a good season

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 14:59:33
So.

What size boot does Glen Johnson need up his jacksy before he gets the message about his playing levels and concentration. Milner at right back tonight for England? there's a size 11 for a starter!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In fairnes its wholesale changes and gametime for the england squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Roy is also a football genius. Would not be surprised to see Moyes as his successor.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2014 14:44:43
With the rumors on Keita heating up a good point was brought to my attention. Balotelli is still an outside possible, thoughts are a free transfer on Pirlo to help settle him at Anfield. Any possibility?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't want ballotelli. I don't rate him. He likes to play through the middle, and sturridge is far better than him anyway. More goals from sturridge in the prem. Big fee and wages also

When a player is sent out on loan with the parent club having the option to recall the player, Can they only take up the call back option during both transfer windows or can the recall a player at any time during the season even when the window is closed.

Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - It is a little complicated - but a goal keeper can be recalled at any time if the need exists for him to be played - in the same way an emergency loan of a GK is allowable outside of a transfer window. Loans have to be for fixed periods (between transfer windows) in the EPL but elsewhere they can be on a month by month basis and players can be recalled under the terms of the loan from lower division sides. Rules are likely to change again next season but I am not sure what the changes will be.}

The latest rumours coming from Marca is that Real Madrid is very keen on getting Suarez. Hmmm. Only if. They make an offer like Di maria + Isco+ Coentro for him will I agree to the sale

Ed002 not Liverpool related but just wondering if I could get your opinion on the Qatar world cup bid and what you think the outcome of this investigation will be?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If proven then the most likely outcome will be to run the final part (submit amended proposal, make final presentation and vote) of the bid process again with USA, Australia, Japan/Korea (if they are all still interested). There would need to be different decision makers and I suspect Qatar would deny any findings and withdraw their offer. There are a number of significant complexities, not least that the major English language television rights deal has already been struck for a Summer WC in Qatar. This would be a major issue if the issues are unproven and one of several issues that could block a shift to a Winter WC in Qatar (which I think is not viable at all). There has been a suggestion that the group games could be played elsewhere with just the semi-finals and final in Qatar as another resolution, but there will be plenty of countries against it. I cannot predict the outcome but Australia would need to be persuaded not to make a legal claim if they are to resubmit their bid and they would likely be as well placed as the USA to host the tournament.}

If the allegations are true it might trigger a major cleaning up drive. Get rid of all the corruption and the dinosaurs all in one swoop.

Ed002, Are you In-favour of the World cup at Qatar?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I don't think it should have been given to Qatar originally. I don't think that deciding on two World Cup venues at the same time was sensible.}

Wonderful question and replies. I particularly like and learned from your comment about commercial media concerns Ed002. Just to throw another potential spanner in the Sep Blatter machinery that rules FIFA. do you think it's possible that if the claims can be proven doubt will be cast over the 2018 world cup awarded to Russia?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is no question about the Russian WC at all.}

Much easier said than done. It's a monopolistic giant money-making machine with too many people involved making tons of money for themselves and their cohorts. It's been going on since decades (Havelange's time) and it'll take quite some effort to do any cleaning up.

Just wondering if Cissohko and Moses are now back at their parent clubs or still with LFC?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think most players are on holiday, if not with their countries at the world cup like Moses. Not sure when they have to return to their clubs but I would assume both would go back to their parent clubs after their holiday/world cup.
