For the posters here, I say this:
Denial is not just a river in Africa.
Let us discuss this again in December.
When reality kicks in.

Couldn't leave a name fella? The reality now is that you are a keyboard warrior.

Sucked off no transfers yet, why have a young manager and not back him to the hilt we start our season in a month and apart from gylfi we haven't been seriously linked to anyone.

Because no one has a clue whats going on.

Sigurdsson saga once again proves sly is more reliable than the eds {Ed001's Note - are you a complete tool? Do you not know how to read? Only it was me and Ed002 that were telling you that Liverpool had not agreed a fee with Hoffenheim, while Sly were making up rubbish about him still being about to move to us. Idiots like you are proof that we are wasting our time even bothering to run this site. Don't bother replying, you are simply too much of an idiot to waste time on.}

Agreed with you Ed001- I often wonder if people ever bother to read what you (meaning all the Eds) take the time to write.

I guess maybe you all should start charging a monthly fee and just make stuff up that people want to hear- 'Hulk signing'. 'LFC in for Neymar!'. Be a lot less work and much more profit for you.

Seeing as how I don't want that, please feel free to ignore my advice and instead realize that their are a subset of us out here who not only actually take the time to read what you write, but also learn from it and are appreciative of the effort.

RDL {Ed001's Note - cheers mate, it does get frustrating though, unfortunately it is the same on every site. It seems the loudest football fans are the morons who just want to be told things they like, if it isn't what they like they will just abuse you. Then, when it turns out to be true, they will give you more abuse for not telling them, even though you did but they were too stupid to listen!}

Will you marry me, ed?

Please?

McSnuggles {Ed001's Note - again? Do we not need the divorce to go through first?}

I see some village is missing their person , wot a t**t hey !!

Ed001 don't listen to him, he's a tool. Everyone on here appreciates the work you guys do and we thank you greatly.
KiwiRed

Go f off to sly then mate

Im always in your corner eds not that that means much but i still have faith thers a lot of decent people on here which brings me to yesterdays point is ther no way to block the abusers before a post even comes through or maybe hav a sign up page of some sort to try out the people who just want to have a go at the eds? these people are not wanted on here who spoil it for the eds and genuine fans. Can i ask eds is it just the liverpool pages were u get abuse or all of them? cheers CRAIG {Ed042's Note - happens on many of them mate, which is a shame..}

People moaning about Sig not joining us (for money). Should realize that Arsenal have just lost RVP. His reason was that Arsenal are not ambitious enough? This is a club that is in the CL. A team who have just signed Podolski and Giroud, 2 players most of us would take.

Maybe people should stop moaning about the players that hav'nt came. And start worrying about the players that could go.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Would think the ManUtd fans are also not real happy with their debt situation either. All in all, at least for today seems like they and Arsenal have a bigger gripe than us, yet I doubt the activity on each forum reflects that...

Arsenal fan here (but with strong Liverpool sympathies.). Tired of hearing all this RVP nonsense. The guy had one good season in 8 years. Any striker will score 20+ goals a season at Arsenal , the way they play. Looking forward to next season and think you guys will do really well. Rodgers is a good manager

"The reality is there are very few players who can come and make a difference to Liverpool."

Brendan R -

Oh dear!!

exiled scouser

These are not the words of a real Liverpool manager. {Ed001's Note - or, it could be a way of boosting the confidence of the current players and making sure that any player brought in feels special.}

He is just playing games mate. At first, I too thought WTF? But he isn't going to come and imply the squad is garbage by saying we need 7 or 8 players is he? He is deflecting the probing questions so things are kept in house.

LIVERPRES

A real liverpool manager would get support from a real liverpool supporter. he hasnt even had a game yet, why all the hate? BR is a good manager, the style that he plays, hes young. maybe not much experience but he did make it with swansea to 11th on his first EPL team, that just got promoted! It would take a big bad thing to happen to make him worry. Just like Dalglish losing Lucas. after Lucas got injured everything went bad.

Hi ed if Pepe does leave this Summer who would are number 1 choice be to replace him??

Thanks

Considering he's the only keeper being RUMOURED to be linked I guess it's Lloris

Hugo lloris

Brendy. he is class for our saturday morning team :)

04 Jul 2012 22:40:39
Sig was just lying with all that "I'm not joining Swansea because they don't have a manager" which he went against by joining spurs before avb was there, and all that "it's not about money" which he went against! We don't need people like that at our club! You know what? After this I'm glad we didn't sign him!!!!! YNWA

04 Jul 2012 22:39:35
Ed's could it be that Spurs haven't announced Siggurdson because the deal was in place before AVB joined and AVB is unsure whether he wants the player and Sig hasn't signed the dotted line yet? {Ed002's Note - They have announced it.}

Gylfi Sigurdsson has revealed he spurned Liverpool's advances because he believes Tottenham are a club that is going places.

Speculation surrounding Sigurdsson's future came to an end when Spurs confirmed they had signed the 22-year-old Icelandic international on a reported five-year deal.

He had been linked with Swansea, where he was on loan last season, and the midfielder confirmed this evening there was also strong interest from Liverpool, who are now managed by former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers.

But Sigurdsson opted to move to White Hart Lane after a meeting with the Spurs' hierarchy, who persuaded him the north London club are destined for great things.

"I enjoyed playing under Brendan and I am grateful for everything he has done for me, but after careful consideration I liked Spurs best," Sigurdsson told Icelandic website mbl.is.

"The team has world-class players in their ranks and they play good football, which I like. I was impressed with the club's plans for next season and the coming years.

"There is clearly great ambition at Tottenham and the club intends to do big things. It is a pleasure to see that Gareth Bale has signed a new contract.

"There are top players in the team and the club is getting a new training ground."

Thts all well and good but still think they wont be as good next year when they lose modric , vdv ,adebayour ,king that is four big players to replace

04 Jul 2012 22:30:12
Would this be good business ?

Pepe Reina to Malaga with Jose Salomon Rondon moving to Anfield (both valued c£20m)

Reina replaced with Hugo Lloris £16m

Martin Skrtel sold for £14m when he rejects new contract offer and replaced with Stephen Caulker £8m

Alberto Aquilani and Jay Spearing sold for combined £7m and we buy Jordy Clasie for £9m

Alexander Doni & Maxi allowed to leave to free up wage bill and sign Markel Susaeta £10m

Squad trimmed, three younger players in the starting XI, quality keeper replaced and net spend about £20m with reduced wage bill. None of those signings looks too risky and they are all realistic targets. To be honest you could sell Adam or Cole as well and recoup even more without damaging our chances.

Lloris; Johnson, Caulker, Agger, Enrique; Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson; Susaeta, Rondon, Suarez

Jones; Kelly, Carragher, Coates, Robinson; Clasie, Shelvey, Adam; Cole, Carroll, Downing/Bellamy

PieInTheSkyMan

Sterling, Suso, Coady

Not sure about Caulker (I don't know enough about him to judge), but all seems reasonable and not a bad bit of business to me...

Skrtel replaced by Caulker? Hell no. Also Lloris is not as good as everyone thinks. And what has bellamy done wrong to be considered a reserve? Mostly your ideas are right. The core of the squad doesn't need to be changed.

eds why wont you confirm any transfers that liverpool are involved in?with all the posts i read on on this page i never see any of you confirm a rumour i see you deny a lot of rumours,you claim to know who is not signing buts thats easy to do,are you guys in know or not? {Ed002's Note - So you want me to lie. Last week it was reported that Gaston Ramirez has signed. Was he at training today?}

I remember the eds telling us all about charlie adam signing before it was confirmed. got your back eds lol CRAIG

04 Jul 2012 22:26:26
Hi Eds great site

Can i just ask, why do you always say we have no chance, going to this other team when asked about a player?
Why don't you ever say we can have him if wish

Thanks {Ed002's Note - Would you like me to lie to you?}

My guess is because it wouldnt be true also if they say that thatl make it open season for people who already abuse the eds when the player dosnt sign. and with the other clubs could be because they have either agreed a deal with them clubs. or they are the clubs that hae showed a major interest cheers CRAIG

im not being all doom and gloom but looking at it from a different angle , some on here are saying give FSG a chance , wich sounds fair but we have not signed players when we needed them , in january we all knew we needed a striker , god the whole planet football knew we needed one except for our owners , now this is the 2nd transfer window and again we have not signed anyone were has our rivals have , you may scoff at everton and we have always said they are skint but they have done more buisness than us in the last 2 windows , so who are the skint club and who is signing players , you cant say that everton have signed marquee players , but they did finish above us after we spent 100 mil , again it boils down to FSG not buying a striker when we needed one ,
now onto the sigg deal , i have to laugh most fans on here with blind faith saying we didnt bid for him and that BR really knew him thats why we never bid for him , if thats correct why did BR keep ringing him up to persuade him to come to us for less money ?? i will let the know it alls answer that one ,
fact spurs never had a manager but bought a player ,they unvield the manager one day and then this sigg player the next day , at least they are quick to act , unlike our owners , a bit like the farce over getting the right manager , they have nade us a laughing stock because they dont have a clue about soccer

DD

The transfer window has been open for 3 probably just 4 calm down

Your the 1 whos being laughed at, transfer windows only been open a few days, and if my memory serves me right, the window doesnt close tomorrow, so get a grip of yourself, calm down and find a little patience, just because LFC havent come out an told the world who are transfers are, doesnt mean were not working hard behind the scenes to get who were really after......

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

So, doom and gloom then.

Redjinal

Dude - you are quickly becoming the most annoying doom merchant on these pages - you should drop Red Turk a line mate, you would hit it off! It is July 5 which means there are 58 days (Including today) left in the transfer window. Come back then and whine if you must.

04 Jul 2012 21:54:02
if rodgers makes aquilani feel wanted we've got a hell of a midfield, with lucas and gerrard alongside him. nearly as good as the alonso masch midfield

Actually, not even remotely comparable.

You will never beat the mash and alonso midfield

04 Jul 2012 21:53:48
Not all doom & gloom ladies and gents
Just the reality wer facing is that our beloved team is looking
More and more likely to be a solid.....mid table team in the years to come under FSG .
Yeh they spent 100 million in the first year...well..no ..they actually didnt! People forget the profits coimg from sales that was reivested into transfers...but still...they might be trying...but not really willing to spend a fortune..they want the profits to come first...which keeps us under the mercy of rodgers...its all on him to revitalize the squad and get the best out of it and make us CL worthy again...basically with minimum budget...and it surley is an uphill challenge...gonna a real tough one...the way i see it.....
IT WILL BE A MIRACLE IF WE MADE CL NEXT SEASON!
But who knows....stranger things have happened in football...and some of them we were actually part of!
We will see..

Why is it that people don't people seem to understand the club's financial position? I don't know how many times it's been said by the Ed's and others. Since FSG took over, the club has made roughly -100M. That's negative, minus, a loss, etc. I'd say investing that much is a pretty significant investment on their part. I suppose the could have just saddled the club with debt like the Glazers? Would that be preferable?

04 Jul 2012 21:51:17
Dembele is a good player, but considering he's a striker converted into a midfielder he's got a horrendous goal scoring record. Yes we need a link man, but we were seriously lacking goals last season. Surely that's a factor in any players signed.

Was just wondering with the abuse you guys n gals get is there no way you can stop the people who abuse the eds from posting in like with a phone you can block a number can you block an ip address? as it is totally undeserved and ruins it for others as you are now reluctant and rightly so to relinquish any info you have i for 1 would love to be clued in to the information use have and the abusers need to realize that moraly what they do is wrong and secondly just because you have passed the info on n if they dont like it does not make it your fault you dont make the decisions at the club and i hope 1 day the abusers realize this. once again sorry for the long post and sorry on behalf of the real liverpool fans for the abuse you recieve from the idiots cheers CRAIG

Who the f*** disagree's...? >-Z GIVE THE EDS A GOD DAMN BREAK.

Stevie.

This is a great site and many of us appreciate the insight from the Eds, Macca and the regular posters. Even Red Turk is hilarious in his own way.

I've been here since almost the beginning but lately, the quality of the posts have deteriorated: there're far too many doom and gloom merchants, abusive trolls and kids who think our club is run like a FIFA game.

I, for one, would definitely support the Eds if they decide to have some sort of registration for the site just to keep the morons out.

If they don't like what they hear when people take the time to explain what's going on or bother to read the posts, they can go elsewhere for all I care.

04 Jul 2012 21:26:21
Ed002 I've been looking on the LFC Tour page and under the section of players who are going on the tour. All of the big names are on there (even those involved at the Euros) apart from two. One is Aquilani which has been dealt with numerously. But the other one is Jonjo Shelvey.

The likes of Flanagan, Robinson, Wilson and Sterling are on there, so its not as if they haven't put the youngsters on there. Just wondering if this a sign he could be going out on loan. Just think it's a bit strange for him not to be in there.

I trust Brendan isnt stupid enough to sell him. I think he could be Gerrards long term replacement.

I'd appreciate any news or thoughts behind Shelvey.

Cheers
CSE9

Isn't Shelvey in the Olympic squad?

Got a feeling he might be loaned out to swansea.

Hope not he's Stevies future replacement.

Come on Ed's what have done with Macca? Has he vanished? have not heard anything from him for ages. Come on Macca have you any updates?

1 week after the England Euro stars return Macca will reveal the latest gossip.

Maybe his source was part of KK's staff of maybe it was the King himself, it seems since BR has been in the hotseat and brought his own staff the leaks have dried up, and I for one am pleased with that, we will now know who is signing when we see them in a red Warrior kit with a liverbird on the top left side.

04 Jul 2012 21:19:55
Sigurdsson chose Spurs (a) for the money,
(b) He doesn't think Brendan Rodgers will build a successful team. What do you think ?
I'm sure he'll get a very warm welcome at Anfield.

He also said he was warned off , as liverpool fc is going backwards , and he said players will be leaving , maybe he knows more than we do

04 Jul 2012 21:15:32
Players that will be shipped out are Downing, Spearing, Henderson and Adam.

That's nonsense. Maybe spearing the other 3 ain't going anywhere

Henderson and downing, no.

Don't forget Suarez and Carroll.
Don't you fools understand.
It's all about money, not football.
Red One

Henderson will be going nowhere and I doubt Downing will either.

Is this your opinion and hopes, or do you have any sauces like hp? etc. I hope they are all shipped out and we can recoup £25-30 mil, then we can look abroad to cheaper, better quality.RedTurk

Eds will you please block or ban red Turk ?!?!? I'm having therapy for depression now cos of him !!

04 Jul 2012 21:09:42
Can't believe what I'm seeing: Chelsea signing Hazard, Hulk, Marin etc, Man City linked with every half decent player, Man Utd getting Kagawa and linked with the likes of Gaitan, we're currently failing to prise an ex-Reading player who couldn't get in the Hoffenheim team away from Spurs.
It's all well and good saying that Brendan needs time to assess the squad but that hasn't stopped Spurs being busy! Eds, starting to lose faith already- hoping you can give us some crumbs of comfort. When do you think we are going to do something positive in the market?!?

At the end of the day..........
you go to sleep!

Do people not read this site before posting - does anyone actually know if we were after him - nothing came out from the club, including BR that we had made a bid, or even contacted Hoffenheim about him.
This indicates - WE HAVEN'T LET ANOTHER ONE GO.

John B

Get a grip
FowlerisGod

We haven't done anything negative in the market, to miss out on a player we do need to actually bid for them.

Don't be daft we obviously have another target in mind instead of Sigurdsson.
I beleive if we would of wanted him enough we would of signed him...
Skurks {Ed016's Note - I honestly didn't think we were really interested with him once another club came around. He was a bargain. But as soon as spurs came into the race he used both of us as leverage to get higher wages. He isn't anything overly special anyway.}

This chap doesn't understand football or the business within it. A real eyeopener this post, almost scary.

04 Jul 2012 21:04:58
Either we arent active in the transfer market or we are doing things really secretively. Either way its so frustrating! Lso every summer theres a player that everyone thinks we will get. this summer its gaston ramirez. We wont get him because anyone we do get will be someone who no one predicted so please stop
going on about him!

04 Jul 2012 20:59:00
How many days till are first signing what do you think edds days or weeks.

I don't want to sound rude, but this is the single daftest question I've ever read. Really how what they know?

Papa G

I am personally more interested in how BR gets the team playing before worrying about which players he is going to sign. How can he possibly know which areas to strengthen before seeing and understanding the current squad and how they fit against the desired playing style and tactics?

Lets show BR, the owners and the club some respect and let them conduct business in the right way. We will all see the results in due course.

ConnorsLFC

Next friday first signing cant say who just he wears boots!

I agree. Unless the club are doing business very secretly I doubt Rodgers even knows the exact day.

Well for one he's a stack of videos showing just how crap we played last year, that should help.

04 Jul 2012 20:55:49
Hey eds, do you think juve are more interested in tevez or Suarez or anyone else for that matter? Cheers, great site {Ed002's Note - They had Cavani and first choice.}

04 Jul 2012 20:53:15
Caulker,Johnson and moses are the realistic targets this year. Forget the big names players we need to gamble on youngish proven premiership players.Dempsey is a option if Moses is priced out of our range and only if we can get him cheap due to his contract.

I personally don't think we're interested in Moses at all. We were linked with him when people thought Martinez was gonna be our manager and its stuck since then. I dont think hes Rodgers' type of player.

Dempsey isn't youngish. Not for a footballer anyway.

Spurs are keeping Caulker

Johnson a bit part player bought for 7.5m and now is far too expensive been valued now at 15m.

Moses is laughable, 12m for an eight goal striker.

04 Jul 2012 20:52:07

With sigurdsson to spuds and Ramirez unlikely do you think cole with be given the ACM role? Gerard cole and Lucas not a bad midfield 3

Clee red

Cole was tried there is struggled. If he stays I see him as cover in the wide role of the front three with Downing and Sterling. I see a new signing coming in that role and another for the right hand side.

Papa G

Could not think of a slower midfield combination.

Ramirez unlikely?

You dont have to be quick to play the passing game! the ball travels a lot faster than a player.

Xabi alonso will likely sign next season but it possible that he will arrive this summer if mourinho let's him for 10-15m

So you reckon that the powers that be at the club will spent 10-15m on a player who will be 32 in Nov. of this yr. I know he has legendary status with the club, but I would prefer we spent the money and probably a bit with it, on his eventual successor in the national side.......Javi Martinez. Know it aint gonna happen with where we are now, but with a good season next year, who knows.

BR said yesterday he was looking at 3/4 players to really affect the group. I think most realistically the best we can hope for are:

Ramirez £16m OR Dempsey £10m
Affellay £10m
Kalou FREE
An young, quick, poacher striker (e.g. Long, would have loved J. Martinez but now he's Porto bound) £5-10M
A defensive midfielder/CB to help at the back, £10M

OUTGOING:
Aquilani £12m
Maxi £Cheap
Spearing £2m

There my thoughts, any suggestions or comments?

Aquilani £12m??

Aquilani £12m?!? I'll have a pint of whatever you're drinking!!

Jimbo

Its sad but probably true, and def won't be getting Ramirez

12 million for aquilani u having a joke be lucky to get 5

12 mill for that waste of space aquilani your some kind of comedian not to mention 2mill for spearing , catch yourself on !!!

12m for aquilani??
I think releasing him may be the only option. Were never getting any money for him.

MIKEY

Good luck getting 12 mill for aquilani mate

OUTGOING:
Aquilani £Chirpy
Maxi £Cheap
Spearing £Cheap

Going for a song?

Kalou signed for someone didnt he?

£12 more like for Aquilani.

Good luck getting 12 million for the whole lot!

Former Liverpool coach Kevin Keen has joined Steve Clarke's backroom team at West Bromwich Albion.

The 45-year-old has been appointed as the Baggies' joint-assistant head coach, working alongside Keith Downing.

Keen was a member of Liverpool's coaching staff last season and is reunited with Clarke, who became West Brom boss earlier this summer after leaving Anfield.

any news on the replacement for keen at liverpool yet ??

He was replaced when Rodgers brought 3 of his staff with him.

You complain about the loss of Sigurdsson. The bigger loss was Andre Villas-Boas. He will be a great manager for Tottenham.

Nah AVB has flop written all over him, he just doesn't seem suited to the Premier league

Andre Villas Boas needs one thing. A clue. The guy is clueless and Tottenham will go nowhere while he is manager.

I would rather have BR mate. If BR hadn't have joined us, I think that the Spuds would have had him top of their list, to replace Arry.

I remember when the same things were said about Juande Ramos, Jacques Santini and Martin Jol.

Time will tell but I think sacking Redknapp was a mistake.

I Redknapp had been sacked earlier then Rodgers was top of Spurs list

Liverpool to sign young swiss international higgs boson the lightning quick striker who has recently found form is said to be the next Robbie Fowler ,higgs is said to be considering his options with Liverpool believed to be front runners after agent Brian hawking is quoted as saying I believe higgs could be a great asset to Liverpool as since the departure of xabi alonso they are missing somone who is key to everything

Should fit into BR's style of play - he's out of this world on his day but does tend to go missing.

How comes in the official site there are no assistant managers shown. It seems strange because pre season training is beginning.I hope Brendan rodgers buys two or three quality players not squad ones.Hopefully a right winger and striker.I can see our squad improving this season we have to remember that we had anew team.GO BRENDAN!!!

If we have missed out on buying Sigurdsson, how on earth can we buy someone like Cavani!
Eds do you think we will make any big signings?

04 Jul 2012 19:44:02
So we missed out on Sig, who cares i'm embarrassed how our fans are moaning. He isn't world class and doesn't want to play for us half of you sound desperate!! Get a grip no player is bigger than our club

Liverpool have the funds in place to back BR in the transfer market. They understand that he wants a squad that has options as we lacked cover for certain positions. Bellers, Cole and Skirtel are not leaving. Expect Schurrie,Wanyama,A Johnson and Izagurre will come in or player similar class. We will not be left wanting at the start of next season as its going to be a very busy 1 with the amount of games plus the euro's and olympics being played over the summer period. BR and FSG are wanting to make an impact and show intent.

Schurrie,Wanyama,A Johnson and Izagurre, well that wastes another season.

Dear ed. I am an indian lfc fan i live, breathe lfc i live far away from anfield but i am as much there as other liverpudian. I am a regular reader of your site and was frustated to see our fans moaning as if we have missed messi. Guys its only 4 days since the transfer window has opened and we are crying for signing i know others have started that but we are not that far away. Pls everybody show some patience. We will be back with a bang and will show sigur(fool) what he has missed. Its his loss not our's. Ynwa.

04 Jul 2012 19:18:34
Just wondering if any of the ed's know how much BR has to spend this window, or is he gonna have to have a clearout of the fringe players on big wages to free up some financial space. Thanks.

BR signings are limited to players wages, the transfer fee is technically unlimited, but high wages have crippled the club, 73% of the clubs earning go the players. The 4th highest wages in the prem, but definitely not the 4th most successful team, and until Liverpool are matching performance with achievement the wages for all new signings will be relative to the clubs achievements.

ed or anyone heard of any rumours whos going to fill the First Team Coach role . find it rather odd its not been filled yet ??

Former Liverpool coach Kevin Keen has joined Steve Clarke's backroom team at West Bromwich Albion.

The 45-year-old has been appointed as the Baggies' joint-assistant head coach, working alongside Keith Downing.

Keen was a member of Liverpool's coaching staff last season and is reunited with Clarke, who became West Brom boss earlier this summer after leaving Anfield.

For gods sake, I know whe are only a few days into the transfer window but it seems like everytime we are rumoured tO be "close to a deal" with someone everything goes quiet after that and nothing happens. The closest we have come to a deal is Sigurdsson, and he has just been swept away from us by spurs, so it leads me to think, who will we actually be getting? Cheers Eds please post would love to hear your feedback YNWA

Just a thought if sig was that good why didnt we go all out for him, maybe because we are looking at an alternative 24 year old who goes by the name of josip ilicic and plays for palmero..... maybe just maybe liverpool are doing things there way and keeping it all in house, remember the benitez era of telling everyone who we were looking to sign is over! ajh316

Or maybe it's because we simply aren't quick enough.

Or maybe the transfer window has only been open for 4 days! Maybe BR ha other targets in mind. Maybe its because we have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on, and people are just reacting in a negative fashion. Chill out people!

Speed has nothing to do with it if you think we need a cm then you don't know the squad we could do with a winger and a forward. We need to get rid of some players before we can replace them.

to be fair "Reddie" or wot ever his name was from Iceland was right about sig goin to spurs and took alot of stick on here about it so somebody in his town of 10,000 who he new was right! i no we seem to be taking a while to sort transfers but id rather BR take his time and get it right because we cant make the mistakes of last summer again nor will we get that kind of money again, this transfer window has never been so crucial in my opinion we have to get it right...redman matt

Yes, but a load of other people said that too. this person just had some fake background story to go with it. and its not as if he has been officially announced as a spurs player.

One of the eds did say his ip address was Icelandic tho {Ed002's Note - It is.}

Yea but he is now saying we wont get ramirez now correct me if im wrong but iceland is not well known for its urugauyan community thyn he said we wouldn't be getting the nigerian lad i think he was probably wrong he has only got 1 right which a lot of others has he now think's he is due his own page and comments on any transfer rumours more than the eds lol

This is one of the funniest and also most depressing days on this site! My god, everyone is jumping ship like it is going down in flames just because we have not signed anyone? I cannot believe it, and i am one of the people who really wanted Sigurdsson to sign for us, but he has not...but why are so many supporters in a panic?

Am i missing something Eds? I thought the window had just opened and while i think it is good to bid early for players you really want, it can also be an excellent thing to wait, especially if we BR have a good mind of who he wants (which he surely does).

Its just crazy talk! If i'm honest i even though Sigurdsson would have suited Spurs type of game (under Harry at least) more than ours. I'm a little gutted he hasn't signed but god knows there are a hell of a lot of players in the world as good or better than him that we can afford, and who would want to join this club

oh and one more thing.

M . O . N . E . Y
I think money has ruined football in general. Teams like anzhi, PSG, Man City and Chelsea were good teams (dunno bout anzhi) that got bought by wealthy people now they attract good players from all over the world for money.
Before this you would probably have at best 5 or 6 good players per team because they liked their football and the team now its for over 100K a week.

I also like NHL and in that their are salary caps etc to stop a team from just buying the stanley cup at the end of the season. Today Minnesota wild got Zach Parise and Ryan Suter Two amazing players in the NHL Parise is like Iniesta or Ronaldo and Suter would be like Pique or Terry. Minnesota Wild would be like Villa. each on a 13 year contract for a combined 98 million overall. Compare that to football and it is shocking. Ronaldo alone resulted in 80 mil for i think 6 months just to move and he gets just as much a year in wages. It has taking some of the passion from football and I cant help but think now that unless your team performs you need to be rich

LFC Paddy

LFC Paddy - If liverpool were to get taken over tomorrow and be able to spend like the clubs mentioned would you still moan - no - you would be made up and wouldnt care about other teams,i hate it when are fans slate man city and chelsea for spending loads of money because if we could do it we wouldnt moan.

Actually no. One of the biggest reasons im a red is because we play with heart and have a never say die attitude. I can honestly hand on heart say that if we became rich and bought everything that moved obviously id be happy we won whatever but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch a game and i think i would feel disappointed that we needed money instead of fighting for it

LFC Paddy

So sufffering is part of supporting LFC

Don't worry ginger rogers will bring plenty of pain, blues and agony to LFC

Would just like to be apresheated when arsenal signed giroud I said it was because RVP was going and one of the eds told me I was wrong clearly on this occasion I knew better.

Or it was because they want to get rid of Chamakh and hoped to keep RVP. Now they have to sign someone else once RVP leaves. Leave the eds alone they do a lot and of course aren't perfect but do an awesome job.

FSG has already spent over £100 million. We wanted King Kenny & they stuck by him. Lucas didn't settle until his 3rd season & I think Adam will settle this season & start impacting the premier league the way he did for Blackpool.
SLODGE

Adam is overweight , Always gives away the ball , cannot defend, always gets booked, cannot tackle, Is as slow as subo in high heels. He can pass well but im pretty sure there are more negatives then positives.

FSG spent 100 million and got most of it back.

By my calculations, FSG have spent about 110-120m (depending on what figure you believe for 'undisclosed' fees, such as whether Hendo cost £16m or £20m), and I don't see how they could've gotten back more than £80m, seeing as everyone apart from Meireles, Torres, N'Gog and Babel (sold for about £70m between them) commanded very low transfer fees, if any at all.

So they've probably spent at least £30m nett. In about 10 months at the club. They're putting money where their mouth is, people.

- Something Red - {Ed002's Note - They have been at the club for two years and have spent a great deal more than that.}

Sorry, mistake in my last comment. They've actually been here about 20 months, but in terms of transfer windows, they've only presided over one summer and two winters so far. So basically a season and a half. What we would've given for £30m net spend every season and a half a few years back, eh?

Now we have it and some still aren't happy.

Hello eds n reds, just thought I would share something I noticed while looking at the lfc website today. A new tour site has been uploaded for the pre season tour ther is a team list which features the obv players but joe cole is in there along with raheem and Danny wilson but no Pacheco And no aquilani, also in the photos of BR meetin the first batch of players aquilani was not ther although Pacheco was. I was just wondering what use may think of this? I think as much as aquaman is talented he has caused enough drama and hopefully this is a sign of hopefully a deal being done, as for Pacheco I would give him til Christmas to prove himself!

So many posts about this target we've lost out on and that target that chose the other team over us.

To be honest the players linked so far have been nothing more than media speculation because they now know F*** All about us.

We never agreed a fee with Hoffenheim for GS, so how can we have lost out? If we wanted him, we would have agreed a fee and then entered into discussion with regards to personal terms.

It's the same with all of the other media linked players.

Just take a chill pill and wait for official announcements over who our targets actually are of who actually signs for us.

So far we have lost out on no-one.

Couldn't agree more, i dont think anyone except people in the club even have a clue who we are interested in

I heard that even though Lucas got injured on December 1 he still won more tackles than any other Liverpool player - even those like Henderson who played the entire season. That is unbelievable! Anybody know if this stat is true?

Mantis

Not sure about every player, but I'd believe that he won more tackles than every other Liverpool midfielder.

Anfield Index put up stats for the top 9-10 defensive midfielders in the league prior to the league game away to Chelsea (the last game he finished before getting injured against them in the League Cup).
Lucas was ahead of all of them on successful tackles. And with a decent pass completion rate too. Stats wise, I think only Parker was anywhere near him.

Also it's not fair to compare his tackling to Henderson's. Hendo never played as a defensive midfielder - he was on the right most of the season, where he didn't need tackle as much as much as a defensive midfielder, so he'd have struggled to match Lucas' tackling rates even if he was the best tackler in the world.

Spearing's probably the only fair comparison, and tbf, he didn't play the whole season either cos Lucas was keeping him out of the team and then he got sent off in his first league start. And I think we all know that Lucas is a better player than him anyway.

- Something Red -

Probably a higher % won, rather than actual number.

Lucas is the best Holding Mid in the
Premier Leauge

add Gerrard to being the best midfielder in the league

then add 1 of the top 5 CB partnership in the world

add the best ball playing keeper currently

add that to South America's best Striker (Suarez) yes he is better than messi for his country..!

and the premier league's best RB glen johnson

top 5 LB in the league enrique

the best passing midfielder in the prem Aquilani (and you can't deny that)

all we need are two wide players for the first team, a LW (replace downing) & RW

Lucas - 12 starts 52 tackles won

Gerrard - 18 starts 17 tackles won

Henderson - 37 starts 43 tackles won

Adam - 28 starts 44 tackles won

Spearing - 16 starts 36 tackles won

I think this underlines Lucas' importance to the team, but also shows Adam was our second most successful tackler, as well as leading the assists. I personally think Adam has come in for more unfair criticism this season than Henderson has.

JRG

Yes I can. Aquilani is not better than Modric, Silva etc. get your head out of the clouds. If he was so good, why didn't Milan sign him?

I think you can discount Aqua, mate. He's always looked like a talented player in a Liverpool shirt, but it's clear he doesn't want to play for us.

And he's obviously not done enough at Juve or Milan for them to cough a fairly mearge fee for him, either.

Waste of talent, imo.

- Something Red -

@JRG.

First of all, the numbers you have are for appearances, not starts. Hendo made 37 appearances in the league, but he didn't start all of them. Likewise Gerrard made 18 apps, but not 18 starts.

Now, on a per game basis, Spearing was our next most successful tackler (2.25 succesful per game, vs. 1.58 for Adam), which he should be considering he's the only midfielder we have apart from Lucas who is supposed to be good defensively.

And Adam can do good things on a football pitch, but he gives the ball away an awful lot in the process of doing it, that's what makes a lot of fans, including me, doubt his usefulness. A player who sets up 6 chances is better than a player who sets up 15, but lets the opposition have 10 with his misplaced passes. That said, both him and Henderson, who can contribute from time to time, as our supposed "s**te" players is an improvement on people like Diao who did literally nothing good, ever.

- Something Red -

I'm sorry but Johnson the best rb ? Even most Liverpool fans don't believe that .... Richards , walker , hell even Hutton isn't far off Johnson ... Liverpool always overestimating themselves

- something Red -

Yes you are correct it should be appearances not starts. I was writing on my phone so went with the word with the least characters!

If look at Adam's pass completion rate it is nearly 80% which is very similar to Gerrard's while Henderson's has a very respectable 84%.

Until Lucas got injured I thought Adam was doing a decent job. Henderson too has shown glimpses of what he can do when played centrally.

How old are most of the posters on here? Honestly, most of you sound like children! Sigurdsson has moved to Spurs, end of the topic. Liverpool didnt see him as the sort of player to bend over backwards for. Rodgers has seen plenty of the lad to make a judgement to weather or not he is worth it.

I for one is glad FSG are not bowing down to players demand like the Liverpool of old under Purslow and H&G. Rodgers has come out officially and said he would like 3/4 players to 'improve' on what we already have. Four days in and people are already having tantrums! Be patient FSG are willing to invest with the right player and what ever the cost. I am not saying they will go out and spend huge amounts, but if the player is right for the club on the field and long term and the price is right FSG will not hesitate to back Rodgers.

Most fans will be happily surprised at the end of the window. The right people will leave and the right people will be come in.

There are so many people on here that do not see the longevity of Liverpool Football Club. People would happily over spend for a short fix and crumble Liverpool over night. FSG are building Liverpool back up again for the long term and to do so you need a long term plan. Invest in the right areas at the right time.

So many people are short sighted on here. Again only four days in and people are calling for FSG's head and also Rodgers'. Pathetic!

Sounds to me like Siggurdsson is a bit annoyed that Liverpool did not push too hard to sign him. It's a bit of a low blow and I'm quite stunned that he would be disrespectful, especially to the Liverpool fans - many of whom have been wanting him to join us.

I don't think he really thought through the comments properly, seeing as Spurs find it hard enough to hold on to thier best players - ala Modric/VDV.

We have had enough little whiners like him who believe in thier own hype over the years, thank god we have not signed him. He will here all about it at Anfield anyway. We can sign, and have lost, much better players than him.

I don't get too angry with other clubs supporters, but the Spurs fans are also experiencing delusions of grandeur at the moment - so maybe the two fit together perfectly.

On the BBC transfers page it says SIG has signed to spurs.

04 Jul 2012 16:49:28
I'm old enough to remember the pre-internet days of the 70s and 80s. The first we ued to know of a new signing was when the contract had been signed and the media had been told about the deal. Much as I am addicted to this site, I love the fact that FSG and BR seem to want to keep their dealings in house. It makes a refreshing change from the Hicks & Gillette / Rafa and even Kenny days when there were so many leaks that everyone knew who we were trying to sign long before a deal was done.

I don't know how serious our interest in Sigurdsson was, clearly BR rates him but he is not the sort of player that we are most in need of. I thnk if he had REALLY wanted him as a first team regular FG would have backed him.

Last season was not good, but too many people are writing off signings from last season unfairly. I think Henderson will prove to be a fantastic signing within the next couple of years. Downing had a few very good performances last season, he has not become a poor player overnight. With good management I think he will prove to be a good Premiership player. Andy Carroll also is starting to look like a good player again. Charlie Adam I'll admit doesn't look good enough. This will sound like sacrelige to many, but I don't think Kenny is a great tactician or man manager. I am willing to give BR a chance to prove himself. If we lose no more or replace and first team players. Add a top draw right winger and centre forward and bring on some youth players (Coates, Sterling & Suso in particular) and a return to fitness for Lucas and I think we will be serious contenders for the top four next season.

Bob

I agree with everything, but not the beginning of the last paragraph.

downing didn't became a poor player overnight he became a poor player throughout the season.

do you know how long a season is? it's plenty of time to get going.

we signed players like, henderson, downing, carroll, adam so that they would not have to "adapt" to EPL and that they would "settle in" quicker.

those signings proved that it really doesn't matter as much as people make of it to be.

Eds Is sig of to spurs a done deal?

04 Jul 2012 16:45:50
BBC website reporting Spurts have signed Gylfi Sigurdsson.

If this is correct then thank god we can move on. It was all beginning to do my head in.
Shame he opted for the Spuds, I wonder what they offered that tempted him...

04 Jul 2012 16:42:30
i have cause of minor irritation ..........

{Ed002's Note - I have fixed it for you, and for the rest of us. If you can't cope with the truth you need to suck it up and move on.}

04 Jul 2012 16:24:26
ED,002 now that this Sig saga is over how much was the actual transfer fee ? Did liverpool move out bcoz of transfer fee or wages ? {Ed002's Note - I have really no interest in this matter. It has been tedious and I cannot understand the Liverpool fans being totally obsessed with this one player.}

I don't think it's the player himself, Ed, as much as "OH MY GOD! Spurs beat us to a player! We'll never attract top names!!"

Did Spurs beat us to Suarez? Enrique? Did they beat us to Charlie Adam, who we're certain they wanted and bid on in Jan (even though I don't rate him that much, the point still stands)?

I'm not put even slightly out of joint by a player, who wouldn't have been a massive improvement to the first team, going to Spurs.

- Something Red -

Ed002 I think people are not obsessed with Sigg just two little facts 1) He didn't sign
2) He was (as people see) incorrectly I think)) pinched by Totts.
I think a lot peole don't want other clubs to get the better of them don't think the player matters in this case

Thanks
QuantRed {Ed002's Note - So no one else should be allowed to bid for players Liverpool may or may not be interested in?}

It's not that they shouldn't be allowed bid, Ed, it's that if someone buys a player that we were supposedly sniffing around, or better yet, someone we weren't interested in, but who did well elsewhere (Cabaye, for example), then it's CLEARLY an damning, abject failure of our transfer policy. And our manager, DoF, owners, Cheif Exec, coaches, scouts, tea ladies, groundsmen etc. are all disgraces to Liverpool FC and should be marched out and shot before they relegate us. That's how you run a successful football club. Lots and lots of kneejerk reactions.

In other news, John Bonham's rised from the dead and is Led Zepplin are planning the reunion tour as we speak.

- Something Red -

There was no actual proof he was wanted by Rodgers. He could have been a 3rd, 4th, 5th etc choice that he didn't see worth the wages.
He may even think we have a player already who is on par with Sig, he may not have seen him as a first team player and a squad player.
There are plenty more players out there that we can sign, so we should all be patient and let Rodgers do his thing.

04 Jul 2012 16:17:16
Heard it here first..whenever you see this, ignore the post as it's probably total b*****t!

On another note, I hope we just keep all our squad members for the time being, not to bothered about loads of new signings.

04 Jul 2012 16:12:56
Hi ed n kop universe, sigg to spur done deal leave us with adam johnson, affeley n ramirez,n i am sure affeley n ramirez have plenty of option make me worry a bit that we will go in bidding war, therefore adam johnson, demsey n milo are more realistic.

04 Jul 2012 16:11:12
Not a rumour. Just my thoughts. I'm not ITK. Anyways, I remember Rodgers saying,"I'm looking forward to bringing in three or four players that can really affect the group. I've got a wonderful group of players here at the moment. I read every day players that are linked with here and unfortunately, especially for the supporters, it's a difficult time because you've got agents linking players with Liverpool just purely because it's great for them to be linked with such an institution of a club. But the reality is there are very few players who can come and make a difference to Liverpool." So, that must mean that, he's looking to bring really good players, doesn't it? IMO the likes of Mark Davies won't make a difference in this club. So, maybe we will buy some big name players or some immensely talented players. I think the fans can be optimistic now that Rodgers himself has talked about exciting players this summer. I for one am very eager to see which players he brings to this great club. Eds?

04 Jul 2012 16:04:58
Wake up FSG can't afford Ramirez or Munain or a a player in the 10 million pound bracket. They are s**t owners."

A no name posted this. Mate, go support someone else. You clearly have a short memory. 35 million for Carroll, 23 for suarez, 16-20 for hendo, 20 for downing. They've spent money, however they are being much more cautious this time so things don't turn out like they did last season. FSG care for this club, and will be willing to spend. Show some support to the club and the owners, remember who saved us from administration.

Cheers ynwa

Why is it that so many of you want to buy every single player that gets mentioned and when they are not bought you start the doom mongering? Lighten up a bit and give the management team a bit of trust. This time next year start it all over again. Was siggardsson really wanted by Rodgers? Do we have to break the bank for every player? If we hav,nt got the money then we cannot pay top prices and top wages. Fact of life my friends . When you grow up and get married and have kids and start to pay your way in life you quickly start to realise that.

Sly sports reporting sigurdsson has officially signed for spurs and is there first signing under avb

04 Jul 2012 16:03:19
come on macca, give us some idea on whats going on with transfers etc

04 Jul 2012 15:59:55
I think we should target this summer:
Ramirez-am/winter
Schrrle-striker/winter
Muniain-winger
Strootman-cm/dm
It would be expensive but I believe we could get top 4.
Jrsoakley23

We will be challenging for the league with those players, not top 4.

More realistic options.....

Ramirez - am / winger
Schürrle - striker / winger
Tello - winger / forward
Gago - cm/dm

they would cost together around £46m

Hi Ed and followers. Just a quick rant about the Sig transfer! As a lifelong supporter of LFC (57yrs) I am absolutely devastated that a 22 year old footballer chose not to come to LFC! He worked with our new boss, he knew he was respected and in particular wanted by not only BR but LFC as well, yet he chose to go to a club with no manager? He was scouted long before AVB was appointed so why? Are we no longer able to compete with the likes of Spurs? Are we as our league position suggests a mid table team? What hurts when listening or reading most rumour sites is, we are being discounted because we don't have the money to compete with the 'Top Teams' If we are linked with a 'quality' player its automatically assumed that they wont come to us! I believe that BR is the right man for the job and passionately hope and prey he proves that we are still 'A Top Team' and as far as stig goes, he may be a young lad whose been badly advised but he now ranks alongside every other player thats not fit to wear the red of LFC. YNWA. Rant Over!!!

I am not as old but I remember the days when we were winning everything and a certain Michael Laudrup snubbed us for Juventus when he was around 18 years old. That was far worse, he would have been the kenny Dalglish we have never replaced. We got over it though.

Orrin

I truly feel that if we wanted to get sig we would have, maybe BR is going to take a serious look at Aquilani. By the comments of Aquilani's agent it looks like aquilani would be open to the idea of coming back to Liverpool, at least for the next season as he must feel he has a great chance of playing an important role for the club.

his agent said that Aquilani will not play in Italy next season, and the rumours were that he wanted to play in Italy so maybe he realized that for now all the doors to Italy are closed.

LFC have a new manager that actually plays to Aquilani's every strength, where as Hodgson played the traditional English style and Dalglish played a style with no creative CM

besides if I were Aquilani and two teams snubbed especially in the way that Milan did I'd be full of rage 24.5 games and he had to play 25 games to secure the move that's just unethical. They could have then at least only played him 21 games. its worse that they went upto 24.5 because the used him for that extra few games with no intention of getting him to that 25

Transfer window open until end of August. People are aware of this I presume, why are people freaking out?! Just let the club get on with it. There are some right impatient people on this site. Who cares if sigurdsson gone to spurs! The signings will come.

Hi Ed, I just wanted to know whats happening with Demba Ba ? Any interest ?

I personally believe we should buy him as he only costs 7 million and is a great striker

Great Site ! Keep it up

His low buyout clause only applies to teams in the CL mate. Barcodes will fleece us for him. Again.

Seriously, if you think this is a great site (and it is) you must have read other posts? So why ask a question that has been answered numerous times by various eds...?

Thank god I'm not an Ed... the repetition is frustrating...

Thankfully Sigurdsson has choosen spurs as I never really saw what all the hype over him was for. Now we can really push for Ramirez who is twice the player and younger. After him; a top striker, natural winger and we'll have a decent chance of making top four next season! :)

E.H LFC

He'd have probably been a good addition to the squad, Sigurdsson. But I don't think he'd have been a huge improvement to the first XI, and I certainly don't think he's God's gift to tiki-taka football that some people have made him out to be.

I don't feel we've 'dodged a bullet', but at the same time, I'm not upset. There are plenty of players of his calibre out there we can go for instead.

slag FSG off when they sign nobody at the END of the window not now you fickle little dimwits. We didnt want sig as much as tottenham did hence why we never met their valuation. I hope the lad does well there, all you nasty little so called fans giving him a hard time need to wake up and smell the coffee. Note evrybody can sign for Liverpool you know. We are 4 days into the window 'officially' the board have backed us with over £100m on tranfer targets so far.. how can you have the cheek to say their crap owners. They are making a conserved effort to get us a new stadium extension and have also put us on the map again sponsorship wise. You dont have a clue what they do, and how lucky we are to have such supportive owners. There are plenty of other players in the world than sigurdson, i think some people forget that. BR knows the player better than any of us do and obviously felt he isnt worth 10 mill or whatever it is. I actually have become sick of reading this site (no offence eds) due to all the negative s**tty little posts on here. How some of you posters can call yourselves fans is beyond me. Im sure the ed's and other regular posters will agree that the liverpool pages are the most negative out the lot. Seriously, many of you need to get a grip. If your thsi negative with football, god will only know how you manage to run you every day lives.

Sam Adzii JFT96

Wake up and smell the coffee lol. My god is that all you can say lol. You mate are a donkon

I agree, amazing how everyone becomes obsessed about one player. Siggy tailed off towards the very end of the season anyway, failed at Hoffenheim..........perhaps we are setting our sights higher than him? I'd rather pay that extra transfer fee and wage bill for someone 'world' class, rather than someone who is barely international class

Please take note that posts like this are also a depressing read, 'so called fans bla bla bla'. Cheer up Sam, the sun is out if you open your curtains!

Fowler99

You keep cherry pickin positives about FSG ye tit (they gave £30mill tops for players by the way), the REAL supporters will keep voicing there opinion to make sure this set of cowboys don't try what the last set tried! If they did try what the other two tried and succeded it would be us real fans who are left to pick up the pieces while fairweather fans like you would be off to the Eittihad, spouting the same crap that you are on here! Now go wobble yer ed and play on your playstation little boy!!!

Waro

Waro you have never ever seen or been a real supporter you say you go to all the games shame their is no way to confirm it mate honestly your the most negative person on here why dont you give it a rest your getting boring lol

What I have heard from a Football Journalist Friend of mine over here in Spain (he is Spanish and knows Brendan Rodgers) is that Swansea had a pre agreed fee arranged between themselves and Hoffenheim of 6.8 million quid. At the end of the loan spell, if Swansea wante dto keep the player they could pay the stipulated fee. Which they wanted to do.

They had also agreed personal terms with Sigurdsson for wages of around 20 to 25000 quid per week when he signed on loan. this was significantly more than he was receiving at hoffenheim.

As soon as Liverpool made their interest known, they were quoted a far higher price by Hoffenheim and Sigurdsson's agent started asking for around 50 grand per week.

My Journalist Friend believes that at this point Liverpool walked away. they were not going to be held to ransom. Rodgers continued to talk to Sigurdsson to try and convince him that playing for Liverpool was the right thing and those wages were obtainable if he showed his ability at Anfield.

He has reason ro believe that the fee Tottenham paid is a base 8 million but there are a number of add ons which could take the price up to over 10 million.

If this is what really happened i am glad we dodged a bullet. If players want to play for us they should be willing to take the same level of salary or less than what is offered at a lower level team than us (i.e. Swansea).

For Spurs this will seem like a coup but maybe they will regret that they have paid over the odds in salary for a player that has played 19 Premier league games. Afterall, they have a painfully tight salary cap and players like VdV, Parker, etc. cannot be too happy a young player with very little experience is probably earning very close to them.

Orrin middleton

Orrin,...do you think that f.s.g. Regret buying hendo, mandy c.stu ,no chin,downing,...coz I do,...sig look like a young stevie g to me can score goals from anywhere on the pitch and spurs have got themselves a bargain

That was my first thought that he could be a young but more Limited Stevie Gerrard. I think at the transfer price it would have made sense but when you add the salary for a player that played only 19 games it was a risk. Remember the whole cost of the deal could be 23 million with salary. A lot for an unproven player.

Also I am not sure how he will play in the AVB system either. Will he take the attacking midfielder role? but he is not that creative or will he be a defensive midfielder and lose the ability of scoring. remember the AVB is 4-3-3 with two defensive midfielders and one attacking. where will he fit in.

I think the rgret the prices they paid for the players and that is down to Comoli.

hendersen - i think will grow into a fantastic midfielder. he is a big strong boy, keeps the ball well, can pass and with some confidence will score. He does the simple things well and in the centre next to Lucas will thrive.

Andy carroll - Starting to look good. But circumstances are circumstances. We got Carroll and Suarez for Torres and Babel. I think if we looked at it one on one now we would accept suarez as a replacement for torres and carroll as a replacement for Babel. We could not have got Carroll for 15 million or whatever his real value was. We bought his potential and sold a miserable and non-loyal player.

Downing - is a good winger for the premiership. he created more chances than anybody else last season. Was it his fault they were missed? So why do everybody give him stick. With a better functioning carroll hopefully he will produce a few more assists.

Adam - for me was the weirdest of the purchases. thought Dalglish wanted to him to create a similar dynamic to the McMahon/Molby with Lucas and Adam. We were unlucky with the Lucas injury and Adam lost confidence around it. Also he suffered from the amount of players who want to take set pieces at Liverpool, Stevie G, Suarez, Bellamy etc. he was the big fish in a small pond at Blackpool and effectively their Stevie G. Coming to liverpool without set pieces and not having two defensive midfielders behind (remember we had mascherano and Alonso for our Big fish) he is never going to be that type of player he was at Blackpool and that made him a mistake.

Orrin

Orrin seeing that you combining the transfer fee and salaries here's something to digest,...hendo,caroll,downing,71 mill, wages over the length of contracts including loyalty bonus and sighning on fees,......38 mill,...total 109 million,..........

Orrin you say downong created the most chances than anyone in the prem , were do you get your info from , he was subbed alot and the fact i know is he had more shots than anyone in the prem and never scored one goal , so how can it be if he was shooting at goal , he was creating chances at the same time , theres only one ball , he either made the chances or missed every single shot he had in the prem
DD {Ed001's Note - OPTA stats say that Downing created the most unconverted chances in the Premier League last season.}

Can't believe the idiots slating FSG around here. You complete IDIOTS, I remember they paid over a 100 m for new players last season? Wow.
Seriously, everybody should take a chill pill. If we wanted Sig we would've got him. If I was an Ed id be banging my head on the table 24/7 with these posts our 'fans' write. I for one am not worried about transfers at all.

All it takes is Gylfi signing for Spudz to separate the shi** LFC fans from the real ones. We knew weeks ago Gylfi was probably going to Spurs. We didn't even place a bid for him with his club. Spurs must be resigned to losing either VDV or Modric. Gylfi was offered 50K+ /week to join and did. A good piece of business for them and that's it. Obviously it means we believe Jonjo will have a future here and maybe a BR has his eye on another piece that may be more urgent than another ACM. Chill out boys and girls. The window just opened. Eds,

I wonder whether you could enlighten me, I remember when comolli joined he said Liverpool changed their strategy of approaching players. It could be visa versa, I remember him saying Liverpool would approach the third, second Targets before approaching the first. Is this still the case or has the recruiting strategy changed. I ask this in the hope that a long summer will be a good summer as we look to secure our transfer targets mid/late summer.

The wise rigglet {Ed002's Note - I am sorry I have no recollection of this at all.}

04 Jul 2012 15:34:08
iam sorry to sound down and moaning but i just dont get what the club really wants. i mean lets face facts br said if siggy came on the market he would go for him and that never happend. its funny how spurs got a deal done without a manger but we cant do anything. i dont want to here all this wait and see we should be moving quicker. i know we have a new manger but come on this is taking the piss.

Eds now that Sig is tot player.....chances of Gaston signing for us increases ??also which players would be on olympic duty?? {Ed002's Note - Sigurdsson and Ramirez are unrelated. Bellamy, Suarez and Coates are going to the Olympics - I am not sure on others.}

04 Jul 2012 15:16:52
Hi Eds. Any idea when the new director of communication is starting.
It would be nice if LFC website started posting some new info, positive, media announcements.
Right now it is rather 'devoid' of 'uplifting' statements. {Ed002's Note - He is there already and has been for a while.}

04 Jul 2012 15:25:01
Honestly, I am wondering if LFC will bring in any new players.
Can see BR only have the current squad to work with, and a couple from the reserves.
Our lack of activity in the transfer market is certainly a small concern.
I just hope that this 'inactivity' is not the 'catylyst' for the better players wanting to move on, because there is certainly speculation, and the response/denial coming from the club is 'absolutely deafening' (sic!).
Come on LFC, let's get the damn 'show on the road', or we will miss out!.

Turn it in fella miss out the transfer window has been open 4 days who have we missed out on nuno gomez and a few rangers players and sig were hardly falling behind lol

Our lack of activity ? Forget me if i'm wrong, but hasn't the transfer window only been open for 4 days ?

Get a grip ffs

ReDDaZ

Of course we can bring in players. We missed out on 1 target and it's July 4th!! not August 30th

stop with the negativity and get behind the new boss

With you all saying it is only 4 days since the window has begun , like the january window aswell we all waited for us to sign a striker and guess what we never , great bit of buisness seeing we fell below the teams who did buy players

04 Jul 2012 15:21:02
I'm a Liverpool fan who like many is becoming increasingly depressed. Every day it's a new story about our best players leaving and targets slipping away. I was fully behind rafa, woy and Daglish but I just don't see us competing at the top. Any resurence or good news would be welcomed.

Here's some good news for you weve transferred you to man city so you can live the dream don't worry you wont be missed lol

Who exactly has left? Who have we missed out on.....?
Depressed?
Get a life and start supporting.
Gylfi's gone to spurs ....so what!
The season's not started yet and the doom merchants are out in force.

04 Jul 2012 15:20:34
Brendan Rodgers worked with Sig at Swansea and Reading both small clubs compared to Liverpool.
Point is Rodgers knows him really well and didn't push to hard to get him so he must have better options in mind.
kidmillions

I agree.

Why was he on the phone to him all the timethen , asking for cookery tips , yeah right brenden really did not want him , kenny has given the owners a scare and they are scared of buying bad players again a bit like downing , carrol and henderson , their prices have never reflected the reality of thier game

04 Jul 2012 15:19:25
Thank God thats the end of the Gylfi nonsense.
Got to love his statement though. it basically reads that his friends told him not to go to LFC because things are going to get worse, but that we didnt want him anyway?!

Right. Whos next on the 'another target weve missed' saga?

Give BR some credit and be patient.

Nuno gomez what were lfc thinking of letting him go to blackburn he has everything we need exotic name and all that lol

as ever were linked with ever tom, dick, or harry, by every paper and sports web site. same as last year with rumours. nothing has come from liverpool.. as much as i want to see some movment in the transfer market. can we just wait till something offical comes from liverpool.

its like there are a number of sports writers can not wait to see our club crumble

Its always darkest before the dawn and it may get a little darker yet.

What ever happens my club is not my football team, Its my relgion, YNWA

You will be a little team for 12 months until you can sign swansea city f.c first team squad...ynwa..you,ll never win again..you are now officially old news..manc,s and cockneys to rule for a long long time.

,i think a lot of non lfc suppoters would like to see lfc crumble especially after this season. but after ramming your successes down other supporters throats for years even when lfc wasnt winning anything you always found a way to disrespect another clubs achevements"youse were just lucky, that cup belongs to us,wait til youve won it x amount of times,we are special ya-know blah blah.its all changed now hasnt it,couldnt even attract a swansea city loanee lmao maybe you should aim a bit lower like the championship with a bit of luck thats where you will be next season hopefully

Ed I remamber reading somewhere that one of the reasons we ended up with Barca's youth coaches had something to do with them getting overlooked at Barca for Pep. Was there any truth in this to the best of your knowledge, and how does this sit with them now that BR a young manager has been brought in?

This is hilarious. Brazil are 11th!

It's a joke. Ireland are gone down to 26th and have anaorway above them. When was the last time they qualified for a tournament?? JOKE

You sure that wasn't 14th, or 24th.
Do me a favour!.

Looks like we don't need to change our playing style, keep at the same (s**t) stuff.

England 4th
Italy 6th
Brazil 11th!!

Like everythin at Fifa, its a joke.

In my mind all the teams that are better than England....

Brazil
Spain
Italy
Argentina
Uruguay
Germany
Netherlands

The ones that are on par
Portugal
France

I think FSG are way over their head. They will sell liverpool to the highest bidder and every player is for sale at the right price. Another bunch of cowboys at liverpool they don't have a clue. Sig was a good young player and they can't even afford him. Henry should stick to bean farming and baseball. They cant afford a new stadium or players even at decent prices.

FSG stands for f**king s**t group

Am sick of all the negative talk of F.S.G, they saved the club when it was about to go bust, invest alot in in young talent and got a good and young manager and thay want success so get of the back.

Yet another TRUE LFC fan eh - is it possible that Brendan Rodgers didn't think he was worth the money he was asking or what Hoffenheim were asking as a transfer fee - the lad couldn't get in their side, and they are not that good - which is why he was on loan to Swansea.

John B

Laughable post. Where's the evidence?

We don't need so called fans like you

Its getting harder to deny statements like this.
Not sure FSG are really 'on top of their game'.
Its worrying!.

You must undestand that FSG are only interested in money not football. Their PR will be just BS. If big money is offered for Suarez and Carroll, they will take it. Money No.1 - undestand this and you will not be disappointed.

Relax man. You know nothing so relax. People who know FSG know they have huge financial backing and are making sure early mistakes made are not made again. This time all due dilligence is being made in terms of transfers and ammounts paid. Letting Sigg go puts us in a much more powerful position. All of a sudden Liverpool doesn't have money (or so selling clubs think) and we are in a much stronger bargaining position with these clubs. Better in the long run I think.

PS. Its not all about the players coming in too. Can't wait to see how we play under rodgers. Honestly think its going to be awesome. Really hope suso gets called up this season and lives up to my expectations for him.

Getting worried now, can't even get gylfi! Trying to keep faith but at moment we SEEM to be missing out on everyone! Eds macca please cheer us up! Are there any deals you know of that excite you for next season?

He's not brilliant! He's a decent player. Would signing him have really made that much of a difference? Clearly he tried to get as much out of the move as he could and that shows that money talks because he had a very good working relationship with BR. I'm glad we haven't given in to demands of a young upstart! Hopefully BR will pull out all the stops.

Hes not Messi mate, we'll find someone better, don't fret too much about it.

RenegadeRed

We missed out even though we never made an offer.

'Missed out'? The player himself chose Spurs for a wage LFC didn't consider acceptable. So if a better prospect comes in now without holding us to ransom ...where does that leave your rant?

dd

Good god. Just wait and see you impatient man. Ramirez, Munian, Tello, Belhanda, Moutinho, Rodriguez, Gatian, Oscar, Schurlle, De Jong, Strootman, Bendar, Bernard, Eriksen, Abel Hernandez etc. etc. etc.

We might not get any of these but my point is there are many many players in the world.

Key is we have the right coach to take us forward tactically. Let him buy his players. Rodgers has proven himself to be very intelligent in the transfer market.

I think you'll be happy in the end.

I'm sure if we matched their offer we would have signed him. However maybe BR didn't think he was worth it? Or just didn't want to be held for ransom?

There are plenty more interesting target's out there. We will just have to wait and see.

04 Jul 2012 14:50:19
I was wondering if anyone else thinks that there is also value to be had from older players at the right price and wages. while we rebuild? While I dont expect us to sign Pirlo, everyone can see despite his age, what an asset this type of player could be.

04 Jul 2012 14:47:20
Keep calm lads,we are doing our business the old way, behind closed doors.
Have faith in Brendan.

'Faith!, can be a misplaced thing, it is often the domain of the ignorant and the gullible'.
I prefer facts and realities, not 'blind faith'.
Suppose that's why I am a athiest!.

Sorry, no faith in Brenda.

04 Jul 2012 14:47:14
Look lads...........If the spuds want to crow on about beating us to a transfer we only enquired about and who is nowt more than a squad player at best then thats fine but Mabbutt etc are all living in dreamland if they think theyre gonna be a regular top 4 side now Harrys gone........Big clubs are big due to their fanbase and their history in the game.......Spurs have a little bit but nowhere near as much as LFC, Man Utd, even Everton,
leave them to whine.........While were going about our business quietly..........
i forgot that were in that much of a decline that we won the Champions league only 7 years ago..........jeez

Give it time boys, we'll be back, every big club with history from Real Madrid to Bayern Munich have had sticky patches for a year or two.....
you can lose form but you never lose class......

Sadly mate, its all about 'money' nowadays, if you have it then great, if you don't, then well....!.

They sacked the only guy thats ever taken them into the top 4.

04 Jul 2012 14:43:38
How tight are FSG can't even afford the sig. Maybe they should have taken over a smaller club

04 Jul 2012 14:42:28
Hello eds
Could you please tell us which players that liverpool have showed interest in under RODGERS? Or is it to early to say?
Loving the site, looking forward to an exciting transfermarket
Thanks
Cha {Ed002's Note - Too early.}

04 Jul 2012 14:42:15
Spurs fan here ... Not here about the Sigurdsson deal ...

But I think this year sign someone to replace spearing ... And with caroll seeming to be on target * looks to have improved dramatically * your defence pretty good you will be fighting top 4 with us

04 Jul 2012 14:31:22
Glad the sig saga is over, but don't worry too much my fellow reds as it looks like he waited for Liverpool to improve their offer and thankfully we stood firm. Obviously the management did not want him that much, but thought he was a good punt for the price Swansea were offered him for. Hope he does ok at spuds but I just think he will be like krancjar and warm the bench for much of this season. Trust the club they know what they are doing ynwa

04 Jul 2012 14:28:58
This is depressing...

04 Jul 2012 14:28:36
Sig to spurs done deal ! Gutted

Why - is he that good? and if he was do you not think some of the BIG top 4 teams would have wanted him, especially looking at uniteds midfield.

John B

Er...why?

04 Jul 2012 14:26:38
pull your finger out fsg ...its a joke now ....sign somebody

What anyone, just to say we've signed someone? Brendan needs to assess the squad and get the right players in, not just any!

Keith

Don't just sign somebody we want quality.

Dont need any panick buys please im sure buck has eyes and ears wacthing players that will matter , maybe he thinks he has enough squad players and wants that 3or 4 players that would improve the first 11 therefore the need for siggi was very small.Tommy Irish Red.

Who would you like them to sign? Ronaldo,Messi perhaps both of them?
We will do our business the right way and we will get players who want to play for and will improve us, but we won't be held to ransom and pay over the odds for what is an average squad player. Hey if it gets to 11:59pm on 31/8 and we havent signed anyone I'll be complaining with the best but until then "good things come to those who wait"
Jim22

04 Jul 2012 14:23:30
Liverpool to sign one out of allefay, johnson, jarvis, for an winger as BR wants quality on both wings for his style of play and has identified these as his targets.

Also rumours of Rondon are coming in are BS.
BR would rather go for an inexpensive known golascorer to help the front two as he believes their partnership will flourish this season, Expect Demba Ba or Clint Dempsey as they fit the bill.

As for a defender BR has yet to identify who he would like as he is waiting for offers for skrtl and agger first. This is incase one goes then he would need a starting CB if not then a back up CB.

I will believe it when I see it.
Facts only!.

Can't believe you have just put 'quality' and 'Jarvis' in the same sentence

04 Jul 2012 14:20:26
Reina

Johnson
Agger
Skrtel
Enrique

Lucas
Gerrard

A johnson
Ramirez
Munian

Suarez

Top 4 here we come! Ynwa

Wake up FSG can't afford Ramirez or Munain or a a player in the 10 million pound bracket. They are s**t owners.

I would love it to happen....but almost certainly it wont.

Jack D.

Man City and Chelsea have big money owners, and no history - they are in need of loyal supporters if you are that fed up with LFC and it's owners.

John B

Put Suarez in the position you have Johnson an have carroll up front and I think this could be our main line up next season

04 Jul 2012 14:20:06
Eds,

Heard that Aquilani want to play for Liverpool this new season. I hope that's true.

With Gylfi gone to Spurs, I see Aquilani as the perfect man to replace Gylfi in attacking midfield position, while Gerrard continue to play deep, partnering with Lucas in the center. Your opinion Eds?

For all I know, Rodgers is looking to buy 1st team player, not squad player since we already have many. 2 position that need to strengthen this new season which is creative winger and striker.

Eds, anyoneelse out from the list below that we interested? Krasic, Afellay, Adam Johnson, Dempsey, Vargas, Luuk de Jong, Rondon.

Thanks Eds.
Konikon'LFC {Ed002's Note - If you search you will find much information on each.}

04 Jul 2012 14:16:59
Good day Ed's , if use don't mind answering , do you's think there will be players coming in this week or next week? i see other clubs getting there transfer business sorted out rather quickly , hopefully we will sign someone soon. {Ed002's Note - We have no idea about timing of transfers.}

04 Jul 2012 14:14:59
thank god the Sigurdsson deal is done we can move on now but i think BR will regret not paying the extra 2mill for a good young goal scoring midfielder

Rodgers wanted him FSG are just tight

I assume you are guessing that Rodgers wanted him for LFC? Have you thought that maybe he thought he was good enough for Swansea and but not good enough for us - and didn't ask the money men to try and get him.
It's time to be a bit more positive - put it this way BR certainly can't be worse than any manager we've tried since Dalglish walked away and left us in the s**t with an ageing side in 1992.

John B

04 Jul 2012 14:13:19
Ok, before people start slating Sig for his Spurs move. Just settle down and read about what's happened. By the sounds of it, we never really made a solid attempt to sign the player, so i think it's a bit harsh to blame either him or our club staff for missing him. Perhaps BR doesn't quite see him as an essential piece in the Liverpool puzzle.
There, it needed to be said, because people are already getting a little carried away...

Red7.

Or we have someone better lined up?

MIKEY

WE can afford better...

04 Jul 2012 14:12:56
Think BR should take a look at Daniele De Rossi. Great passer of the ball and also solid defensivly. At 28 might not fit criteria but would be a fantastic player to help the club regain a top 5 place.

04 Jul 2012 13:47:53
Thanks very much for clearing that up for me Ed002, much appreciated.
I find it rather strange that Sigurdsson would come out and bad mouth us, all it has done is make him look like a spoilt little brat, and I'm delighted we didn't sign him. Imagine what Shankly would make of him. Shankly said that if a player wanted to join Liverpool they should be prepared to run through a brick wall, and that should still be the case. The fact that Gylfi would even have to think about joining us or Spurs convinced me he shouldn't sign.
JFT96
Smithy
{Ed002's Note - I completely agree. Bad mouthing clubs is not a neat thing to do.}

Hi ED002 - I've seen this statement from Sigurdsson posted twice on here, but can't find it anywhere else on the internet. Are we sure he actually said this, or perhaps its on a fake Twitter account? It just seems odd that a player would be as disrespectful to another club as he was in the post, whilst also raising a suggestion we were tapping him up, as we didn't have Hoffenheim's approval to speak to the player? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea if he did or not. The entire subject tires me.}

04 Jul 2012 13:47:13
Hi eds now that we have lost out on sig do you expect us to make more of a push for our targets primeraly ramirez so we dont miss out on anyone else please give us liverpool fans some good news also who are your sources and where do you get your info from is it anywhere I can look {Ed002's Note - Entirely unrelated.}

04 Jul 2012 13:35:44
Sigurdsson to Spurs confirmed by ESPNSTAR !! Now i wish they go for Gaston Ramirez !!

04 Jul 2012 13:33:04
Its on ESPN that Spurs have confirmed the signing of Sigurdson...Eds do you know the actual reasons why Sig chose Spurs over us? There are a lot of rumours going on about why he has done this but it would be great if you share the real reasons.

Also what exactly are we doing now in the transfer market. It would be great if you post a daily or once in 3 days transfer round up whichever suits you. It would stop people asking you similar questions time and again. Just a suggestion!

Regards,

Ashish (fan from India) {Ed002's Note - I have no idea of the reasons he decide on Spurs but reference his statement.}

04 Jul 2012 14:10:12
i hope fans aren't going to embarrass themselves by booing sigurdsson when he comes to anfield this season. reserve that sort of treatment for the truly elite players

Well thats none of your lot getting booed then.

Why would we boo a player sitting on the bench?

04 Jul 2012 14:10:06
Sig gone to spurs its official.now that's all for us in the transfer market may buy a few cheap rubbish players

Cheap doesn't equall rubbish. james mcclean to sunderland 200,000. demba ba to newcastle free. bellers to liverpool free. papisse demba cisse to newcastle 10 million. joe hart to man city 200,000.

alittle annoyed to see sigurdsson sign for spurs. Just wandering if the eds knew how far we got with his transfer? did we even have bid accepted? Thanks!

Hopefully well get Gaston Ramirez now!

Nope we'll miss him aswell

04 Jul 2012 14:07:41
Spurs have signed Siggurdsson......

04 Jul 2012 14:06:50
Liverpool to bid for Krasic,A. CISSOKHO,Guisippi Rossi,Dimba Ba,Afellay,Jovetic,Ramirez.

They,ll all sign for bigger clubs than youse.

04 Jul 2012 14:04:07
spurs know how to move quick , how long has AVB been at spurs and he has signed his 1st of many players in this transfer window , losing more ground on the the teams above us , only 45 days before the season starts

The deal would have been in place long before AVB's appointment. Stop worrying about transfers there's plenty of time left to buy.
Hans

Levy signed Sigurdsson, not AVB.

Well if Levy bought Sig, then he is a chairman 'on the go, and in-touch', ours seems 'distantly removed'.,

It just means that AVB is good enough not to have to look at the players as we all know what they have in their team , is br going to find any suprises or does he already know our players like any other decent manager , we all know our players and were not pro managers

Levy > Ayre
Ayre = Parry

04 Jul 2012 14:01:32
Sigirdsson to spurs done deal can forget that one now

04 Jul 2012 14:00:27
OFFICIAL Gylfi has signed for spurs!

04 Jul 2012 14:00:07
I never thought I'd see the day that a player wants to sign for tottenham over Liverpool! An somehow tottenham are financially better off than us? Wtf Is going on!

This is a make or brake season for Liverpool,
We need to make good quality signings, if not then we could see players prefer to play for stoke an everton next year!

Alonso
A.johnson
Dempsey
Allan
Are top quality players prob cost us 60mill
Why not?

Not sure alonso would leave his country where he has a chance of winning league and champions league titles to play with allen and dempsey instead of ronaldo kaka and ozil

Club seems to be 'drifting', losing touch with the market.
Is this due to the 'inexperience' of both owners and the manager.
Just feel that even at this early stage of the season, we are already a long way behind the rest.

Alonso! Guys get a grip, it won't happen. If we ever see Alonso again i'd be pretty sure its when he is old and not up to the same level anymore and then will move for inflated wages

gareth

04 Jul 2012 13:58:27
The Sig deal to Spurs is worrying. Both them and the pool will find it tough to break into the top 4 but I can only see one winner if any player in the future has the option of moving either to london or liverpool. MonaghanRed

04 Jul 2012 13:58:21
I don't know who Aquilani or his Agent think they are. Honestly.

The guy rolls back every pre-season acting as though it's our privilege he's back and we owe him something. With his Agent demanding we sort him out pre-season with whether he's staying or going.

To be brutally honest, there's a reason why no club wants the guy - he's rubbish. You can probably pick him up for 50p at the moment but no club wants the guy. A few sprayed passes in pre-season is normally followed by a season warming the bench - says it all really.

I'd leave him with the reserves, until someone pays his 75p buy-out-clause.

JimmyHustle

He's far from rubbish, just doesn't want to be here.

04 Jul 2012 13:57:34
I for one, want to say thank god that Sigurdsson saga is done, got real boring reading about it. Now on an LFC note I hope rodgers has the courage to blood people like suso sterling coady and morgan, give them some 20 minute cameos. The 2 minutes sterling was getting were he would touch the ball once are a waste of time.
Andrew

04 Jul 2012 13:55:45
anyone see glyfi's comments, we wer'nt even in for him, we offered below hoffenheim's

''It was only ever between Swansea and Tottenham, I talked with some friends in the game and they advised me not to go to Liverpool, That things where only going to get worse when some of their players leave, Besides, I dont think they offered Hoffenheim anywhere near my value, I was never even given permission to speak to Liverpool, But Mr Rodgers rang me quite a few times, But im happy now to be joining a big club that will only get bigger, I thank Swansea for my time there and the fans were always great with me''

Can you point us to a link where he supposedly made these remarks?

Otherwise it just looks like you're making it up...

Matt S - YNWA

He's not Liverpool standard...

Well, that's interesting.
I hope that's not the consensus of other players in the market.
Hell, if we can't even attract a player like Gylfi, then what chance with the rest.

Good morning FSG!.
If LFC were listed on the NYSE, I would be getting a bit worried about the share price, around about now.
Time for some positive action please, or else sell up and move on.

04 Jul 2012 13:51:44
Interest in a new player

aaaaaaaaaaaaand he's gone

amar

ps- not being negative, couldn't help it :-)

04 Jul 2012 13:46:39
relieved that spurs have signed sigurdsson, didn't want any more average players such as downing who are scared of wearing the shirt and whose poor performances will set the club back another 12 months

A bitter Liverpool fan.... how very predictable

04 Jul 2012 13:42:00
Many of the flops we have signed over the last 10 years have been flops because they have not been coached properly or played in the correct position or in a manner consistent with how they excelled at their previous club. KK began to bring us back to our pass and move heritage and BR will take it to the next level. I have no doubt whatsoever that the squad at LFC is far more talented than the Swansea squad. Once they take on board BR's ideas we will begin to see a very pleasing and successful style of play. Patience will be required. As the Ed have said although BR may already have a good idea, he will want to assess at close quarters the existing squad to see who has the ability to take on board his ideas. Once this is done he will then definitively decide on who can stay, who should go and where we need to strengthen. If in the meantime a good deal can be made for one or two signings of undoubted ability we will go for these. If not, BR will bide his time and when he is ready pursue the signings he wants. We are therefore for more likely to see our transfer activity take place in late July/ early August. Reality Red

Hi what you say makes sence but!most of us are eager to sign sign sign, lets hope they take their time and buy players who fit into the system(godin)

04 Jul 2012 13:39:51
Hi eds now that we have missed out on sig do you expect us to make more of a push for our targets primeraly ramirez so we dont miss out again surely he must have a vagie idea of were we need to improve please give us liverpool fans some good news also who are your sources and where do you get your info from isit anywhere I can look

{Ed002's Note - Whatever happens with Sigurdsson will not impact the transfer policy.}

How did we 'miss out' on Sigurdsson when we didn't actually put a bid in for him?!
Rodgers obviously has other targets to go for.

04 Jul 2012 13:36:33
Dembele?

I really rate him.

benny baller

Yes? can i help you?

Thats not a question, are you a californian teenage girl? thats a question

04 Jul 2012 13:36:27
Well we all can put the gylfi rumours to bed now. He has sign for spurs.

04 Jul 2012 13:36:13
can any of the eds name all the clubs who have signed players up to now , i know man utd , spurs, chelsea , everton ,west ham , all have , we will be panic buying at the end of the transfer window , no wonder they only wanted brenden a yes man , and can everyone stop now with who you want us to sign , believe me its not going to happen , because when a manger has a few targets the club usually signs them , brenden has said he has at least 3 , when are they going to be signed ,it would not suprise me if surez gets sold , only our owners would sell a world class player to keep a player like carrol or skertal or downing or adam or henderson , they will keep the trash and get rid of the best , im looking at 15th in the prem this season, anyone who thinks we are going to buy some class players deserve the title of a deluded reds fan

The only deluded one is you.

04 Jul 2012 13:28:00
So he was your mate Siggy when you thought he would sign for you, now he is $igurd$$on when he prefers Spurs. Ahhhh the Bitterness ;)

Disney!

Hello Sigurdsson, bye bye Modric and Van Der Vaart. Oh and good luck with AVB.

Oh I forgot ;)

He was never my mate, Disney. We all know money talks. If you don't believe me just look at how Shrek brought your club and manager to it's knees, for a few extra £££££££.

But still you applaud him? 'fickle' fools you Mancs, I kid you not. lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ps. So much for you raising your debt money on the Singapore SE, eh buddy?

You spend most of your time on our side..Ahhhh the Bitterness ;)

Ps.

I see that Pogba has left the 'mighty' United, Disney mate. That's Pogba and Morrison who you said would be part of a a squad that will 'dominate for years to come'. If these 2 don't want to play for you what chance have you got of getting Hazard, Sanchez, Nasri, Neuer, Sneijder etc, etc..? Oops sorry mate they already told you to p!ss off.

But have no fears mate, you've still got Wellbeck, Cleverly, Anderson, Carrick, Nani and Evans. Barca, Real Madrid, City, PSG, Chelsea etc...must be sh!!ing themselves.

Lol

Just like Pogba was considered the future of Man Utd but now he's that money grabber at Juve?

Siggy sings for spurs , I m happy he didnt choose us we have good proven midfielders in team,Cant wait to se him get tackled by our monster lucas.....

Grow up.
He's just saying what many seem to be thinking.
Address the issue.

04 Jul 2012 13:23:36
not a rumour but a fact , everton have signed more players than us already , and he was free , in the echo it says they are linked with oscar cardoza , what happend to we have money to spend , like january we really needed a striker , we never got one , why ? , newcastle and everton did buy strikers and look where they ended up , above us . i think its time to put up or shut up , gaston ramirez has a price , lets get him before someone beats us to him again , with downing , henderson and carrol the owners got their fingers burned , but thats what they get for knowing nothing about soccer , we cant be run on a shoe string , and as someone said rafa bought torres and macharano , so unless we move in for someone before the end of the week we will be left behind again and sign players know one is interested in ,

im getting sick of this now the owners saying yes theres money to spend , BR saying he has 3 -4 players in mind , if thats correct whats the hold up , the players went back today for pre-season , but seeing all our rivals have signed players , it seems we are the only ones who need our squad to be looked at , i did have a hope of us finishing higher than last season but it just sickens me when the owners and the manager are all talk , if siggy was that good why didnt we pay what he was asking for if it would have benefitted the team and club and results its worth it , it looks like the owners are leaving us to walk alone

Mate you need to relax in sure there is plenty of work goin on behind closed doors just cos we dont no who or wat or wen buk nis only in job few weeks trans window only open!! players like clubs like to look at all ops so calm down calm down calm down !! ha

Last time I checked, it was only July 4th!

All that whining because Spurs signed a player who we didn't even put a bid in for.
Get a grip.

You claim that FSG know nothing about football, maybe you should learn something about it first and then make an intelligent comment.

Oh god no, we've just lost out on a clone of Superman/Captain America or was it Messi or Xavi? Ermmmmmm, no, it was Gylfi Sigurdsson... People, please, stop... The guy is a mediocre player, OH, and a Mercenary.

Stevie.

He is a mercenary because he chose another club above Liverpool? Ha. Brilliant. Side order of pickled sour grapes anyone?

TK-Red

Oh and we didn't even bid for him because we have other targets.
I think a lot of what Rodgers spoke about yesterday about agents and media making things up had a lot to do with Sigurdsson.

Oh dear TK Red, aren't you a silly little boy. I think it's way past your bed time. Go on now, trot on over to your simple minded wee Manc site and leave us Liverpool folks alone. Bye now little boy, bye bye now...

"{Ed002's Note - The Pogba situation is different, as it is for anyone under 18. There is no comparison for those over 18.}"
Hi Ed002, I'm not sure what you mean, is Pogba not 19? With Suso turning 19 in November or have I missed the point?
JFT96
Smithy

{Ed002's Note - It is to do with the date of expiry of their contract because players who sign contracts under 18 are limited by length and can expire at dates other than June. Suso's runs a full year to June whereas Pogba didn't sign a new deal but simply extended a deal which was ending last October (as it was signed on arrival and before he was 18) to the end of this season. A such he could easily let the contract run down once he had not been sold last January - although there was interest and an offer made by Chelsea. Suso has a contract which runs a whole season still and with a year to go on his contract could be sold now or could be offered a new contract (which is what I would expect). So Liverpool still have a full year to play with. United only had that January window to figure out an alternative. I would not worry about Suso at this time.}

I know that this is to do with how old the players are when they sign the contract and I know you have explained this but the question is could Suso leave for free? {Ed002's Note - Only if he lets his contract run down for a full year. If Liverpool make him an offer of a new contract now and he refuses to agree it, then Liverpool will need to decide what to do. But they will have a full year to decide and two transfer windows. hi edds its on sly news now sigurdsson has signed for tottaham what happened to us mate do you think rodegers didnt want him at all because he did say on talk sport that all the players liverpool have been linked with hes not after got a feeling alonso mite come back carnt see why we let this one slip unless he has is eye on a better player what do you think mate

One thing is for certain...Rodgers is definitely in charge of tranfers

04 Jul 2012 13:08:23
It's official, sigurdsson has signed for spurs

04 Jul 2012 13:07:52
shame we missed out on gylfi, am actually really annoyed! eds, do you have any idea of who we will sign in the transfer window?

spud 1866

If Brendan Rodgers didn't want Sigurdsson then obviously he has other targets in mind! We travel to North America in 2 weeks so expect a couple of deals to be done by then, i wouldn't be surprised if we got 4 players by then to be honest

Gylfi Siggurdsson ~ ''It was only ever between Swansea and Tottenham, I talked with some friends in the game and they advised me not to go to Liverpool, That things where only going to get worse when some of their players leave, Besides, I dont think they offered Hoffenheim anywhere near my value, I was never even given permission to speak to Liverpool, But Mr Rodgers rang me quite a few times, But im happy now to be joining a big club that will only get bigger, I thank Swansea for my time there and the fans were always great with me''

Spuds bigger club, haha rib crackin

Priceless ;)

Disney!

''big club''? I thought he'd joined Spurs?

MR EM

Ahhhhh Christ... "Big Club" Help...... :-) I've laughed that much, a bit of wee has came out. :-D ...the guy should give up football, coz he's a real comedian. "Big Club" ...that's a cracker! LOL LOL LOL Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, "Big Club" :-D

Stevie.

Its funny people slate him for making a choice out of Spurs or Swansea and call him money grabber when we did not even make a bid that allowed us to talk to him. Also shows how bitter we have become.

Any chance you might have missed reference to "players leaving" and us getting worse, that would bother me more as he had conversations with BR .I reckon this season will be a write off and we will consolidate bringing in cheaper options to those that leave and hopefully bringing through youngsters, then next season with the wage budget under control we should see an influx of quality players .

04 Jul 2012 13:05:44
Now lets idenify our next targets for others to snatch! Ramirez anyone?,Going going gggoooo------

Ha ha I find all this so contradictory its untrue. 'let's identify players for others to sign' and then someone else will put 'why are there no announcements on transfer targets'. All very amusing.

04 Jul 2012 13:03:41
Why is Liverpool always late with their transfers while other teams are buying? Is there any reason for that?

According to what I've read here we are looking for a winger, a striker and an attacking midfielder.

Who are the 3 MOST likely for each position ed's?

Reddie

Johnson,Dempsey and Dembele will be all the business we will be doing, unless we ship anymore out.

We were one of the earliest teams last season on transfers so it varies...Rodgers is still examining our current squad...not easy when he's just come in and there are tournaments going on...

04 Jul 2012 13:03:33
Hi Eds,
So we know BR will be playing the tiki taka style of football and lets assume he goes for the typical 4-3-3, Taking pepe, back four, gerrard and suarez who will all start out of the equation..that leaves 4 positions up for grabs in the starting 11.

My point Im trying to make is...BR wants to bring in 3/4 players in an attacking midfielder, winger and striker ,which just happens to be the 3/4 remaining positions up for grabs if you take into account sterling starting as rodgers wanted him on loan last season.
so....I know formations will change but bar maybe hendo ,the likes of downing, adam, carroll, shelvey and spearing wont get the game time as BR would most likely go with lucas maybe cole or maxi?
would like to know everyones views even if you do think im talking rubbish, cheers

I would also add Lucas Leiva as a definate starter in the midfield .

Reina , Johnson , Skrtel , Agger , Enrique , Lucas , Gerrard & Suarez leaving only 3 positions to fill for our strongest team next season .

04 Jul 2012 13:02:15
please post my thoughts.........

thank god siggy signed for spurs this shows we wont be held to randsom
lets not forget he was about to sign for swansea until the greedy iceman had options.
hope he has a season on the bench. i will state this we are and always will be a big club so forget the wages and do what you love put a liverpool shirt on kiss the badge and play football with pride ive trusted all managers for liverpool and br is no different kd stabalized us br will take us forward come on

I completely agree , Brendan Rodgers knew a fair value to place on him based on experience and contract negotiations but if the player wants to play for more money that is his choice , who cares .

04 Jul 2012 13:01:23
Well there we go! The Guardian are reporting Gylfi has chosen Spurs. Ah well, screw him. Onwards and upwards. Hopefully they'll nosedive now Harry has gone and he'll live to regret his decision.

And they say Everton fans are bitter.

04 Jul 2012 12:59:24
Sig gone to Spurs. We will concentrate more on steve davis, kalou, adam Johnson and Gaston Ramirez. also people saying Jovetic doubt it. more chance on dempsey.

04 Jul 2012 12:59:12
Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim, more on site shortly. SLY SPORTS.

AVB has assessed his squad rather lively, why has it taken BR so long?

Levy signed Sigurdsson, not AVB.

04 Jul 2012 12:50:35
Think it's a big mistake by sig to join spurs. AVB plays his defenders high up d field. That'll give very little room for d midfielders. BR plays from d back giving plenty of room for d midfield hense sig noted performances last year. Don't think he'll prosper there. I mite b wrong. What u think Ed's?

Are you kidding? And I thought some of you might be educated. Playing a higher line in defence pushes the midfield higher up the pitch and closer to the penalty area, just where Sigurdsson likes to play.

TK-Red

You definitely are wrong. TK-Red is correct.

gylfi sigurdsson has officially signed for tottenham fc

personally i think the guy is greedy ! he has no loyallty or respect too brendan rodgers , money means more than that so it seems , no doubt he is a good player but he aint iniesta or xavi so us fans just forget about it and there are plenty of players available out there

also massive respect too liverpool and FSG who wont be bullied into over paying for a player , we can trust brendan and FSG and we can look forward too signing players that want too play for the club and not all about money money money !

lw12

Henderson, carroll, downing and charlie adam all wanted to play for us, all were over priced and all are average :). brendan rodgers's signings will make or break him, thats if we buy anyone? Do we look like a club with top 4 ambitions? Absolutely not, we look like a mid table club that is struggling right now? Why is that? Liverpool are crowned european champions 5 times we should have owners who aim for the best. RedTurk

Why should he should loyalty to brendan rodgers?

Calm down RedTurk. Im sure Br has a couple of shock signings lined up, ramirez being one of them. Im pretty sure henderson is not average, he will be a very good player for us. Not sure about carrol. Ur right about downing n adam though, very very average.

04 Jul 2012 12:44:09
Gylfi Sigurdsson has completed his transfer to spurs. it has become official on the clubs website. chin up though, there is plenty of talent out there.

Which we won't be looking at.

04 Jul 2012 12:42:55
Hi Ed's I've just read that Suso only has around a year left on his contract, do you think as soon as he returns from the U19's European Championship we will 'tie him down' to a new long term deal? I don't want what happened with Pogba at United happening here. He also has a very big future ahead of him and it will hopefully be with us.
JFT96
Smithy {Ed002's Note - The Pogba situation is different, as it is for anyone under 18. There is no comparison for those over 18.}

A statement from Tottenham said: "We are delighted to announce that we have completed the transfer of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim. The attacking midfielder is no stranger to the Premier League having enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Swansea City during the second half of last season. He scored seven times in 19 appearances as well as picking up the Barclay's Player of the Month award for March. The Iceland international originally moved to England with Reading, coming through their academy to make 51 appearances and scoring 23 times. He was named Player of the Year in his only full season in the Royals First Team before moving to the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim in 2010."

sorry cut and pasted

Thank god for that!!! Seriously thank god for that!!

I stopped using this site for a while because of constant whinging bout Sigg. . . Will he wont he why isant he!!

Sig at Spurs. End of story.

04 Jul 2012 12:37:49
Gylfi has signed for THFC ! whats was suppossed to be yours is now ours and whats ours is nailed down..COYS

Much love

No mate. We're just sick of overpaying for average players. Good luck with avb. You'll need it.

Hello Sig....bye bye Modric. You don't know what you are talking about you clown. You've signed an average mercenary player. Do you think he signed for footballing reasons???

Nuclearboy

Who would you prefer Gylfi or Modric? Your hardly replacing your wantaways with class.

Tom.

Pot, kettle and black spring to mind. You said we have signed an average player , well lets look at your last couple of signings shall we ! Adam , Henderson and downing All very much below average players . People in glass houses and all that chaps.
He didnt sign for money at all, everyone can see the football being played at WHL recentley and that my freinds is the reason he signed, not to be involved in a mid table battle with the likes of aston villa , Everton and fulham that he would happen if he signed for you lot. You were a force many moons ago but times have changed , you are no longer as attractive as you lot think. Dont take my word for it, look at the leagues tables recently and maybe swallow your pride , remove the red tinted glasses and you will see for yourselfs.

Much love

Oh almost forgot, who said Modric was leaving, the sun the mirror the daily fail i dont seem to remember Daniel Levy saying he could go anywhere, at least not for the duration of his very long contract. And Gylfi was signed as a direct replacement for Luka , he was signed as a replacement for Niko Krancjar ..FACT !

Much love

Dream on spurs lover, your a big club wanna be. Enjoy your time with AVB

Modric is off, you know it and just cant admit it. AVB had a worse win ratio than 'Arry did when he had a better team in Chelsea and won the league in a One Team league in Portugal. As soon as there was competition in the Premier league he ballsed it right up. He should go back to being a scout, he as good at that. Chelsea fans must be loving it also because Chelski can stop paying AVB's wages now too.

Some of my fellow Reds having a bit of sour grapes here...
the premier league doesn't hand out player of the month awards to any average footballer. Gylfi won one last season and he has been voted fans player of the year at each of his former clubs. these can't be flukes...and he's only 22...
Spurs were willing to offer higher wages, which Gylfi may end up being worth anyway...so well played Spurs
hopefully we can bring in some quality as well...

^^^ sense at last !

Much love

04 Jul 2012 12:37:44
Sigurdsson officially signs for Spurs...

Put that one to bed, thankfully...

04 Jul 2012 12:36:45
Hi Ed's i think i speak on behalf of everyone who posts on here when i say we appreciate the job you are doing tremendously well. I was wondering you've all said that once Rogers has finished his assessment of the current playing list, the transfers will commence. When do you think Rodgers assessment will be completed by? Cheers Nick Tidders {Ed002's Note - He will have a pretty good idea after a few days training. Asking who wants to move on will influence the decision as well.}

04 Jul 2012 12:36:35
well thats sig gone

04 Jul 2012 12:35:48
Hi (r)eds!
How to do bussines
Juventus transfers so far:
Paul Pogba free
Isla 8m
Asamoah 8m
Caceres 7m
Leali 2m
Giovinco 10m
Lucio free

Hardly the most inspiring list of signings for a club with CL aspirations, i'd only take isla from that list

Ok...but who on that list will actually make Juve's starting eleven?

Asamoah and Isla cost the way more than that. £30Million combinded

04 Jul 2012 12:29:06
Expect a 16mil bid for Ramirez to be accepted in next week or so after sig agreeing tottenham move. This is likely to be one of two big signings by Liverpool. Expect no more only fringe players unless players leave

Next week,is that just secret code for never?

04 Jul 2012 12:26:05
concerning the financial debate, just checked financial reports of all premier league clubs in 2012

it says Liverpool had 181mil turn over
135 mil payed for wages, 3 mil annual interest and around 50 mil on net spending for transfers. with FSG preferring to settle the stadium planning bills left from the previous owners ( close to 35mil) and other costs like agent payouts, our balance was 45mil loss.

This year we have extra money from sponsorship and we are not paying 30mil for stadium. so i guess it will be healthy for the club to spend around 30 to 40 millions for transfers. am I correct ?

still the bad figure remains our staggering wages when we don't even have enough quality players in the squad. only chelsea, united and city pay more than us. and if you compare this with the turn over by percentage. united pay 46%. spurs 56%, city 114%, chelsea 86%, Arsenal 48% and LIVERPOOL 73%.
this figure is not healthy for Liverpool. only the crazy spenders (city and chelsea) are higher than us.

so, instead of transfers, it is from wages FSG will try to cut their losses. it has been told that we are paying too much for squad and reserve players.

miccmak
{Ed002's Note - The accounts for 2012 will not be available for another year. These figures are for the 2010/11 year. Since then another £50M loss has happened. I would not try and derive a transfer budget form the accounts.}

04 Jul 2012 12:24:44
dear eds,
do u know by any chance why dani pacheco has played only a handful of games at rayo vallecano when he was on loan? does he have some issues or was he just not good enough or what exactly? i fancy him under rodgers as i think he would get the best out of him as he fits hes style i think..and he was very promising in the reserves and also on the spanish youth international squad he was the star of the team!
hope he stays with us and shine...will be like a new signing!
any ideas eds?
thanx {Ed002's Note - He was a young squad member.}

Look at the stats - at 21 he has nothing - not playing regular football, no goals, just a decent player. Look at other players at the age of 21-22 - proven international players, playing as regular in first team. We don't need him at all, not good enough.

chris christov

04 Jul 2012 12:20:03
With regard to Lucas coming back like a 'new signing', I hate to be a Dr. Killjoy, but this will not be the case, and here's why;

The ACL is like a rubberband, which, once ruptured ir cut, must be replaced.

Option A is an an autograft (hamstring tendon of patella tendon as a replacement) while option B is an allograft (a cadaver's ACL as a replacement). Donor ligaments are rarely used because they are frozen beforehand and may thus take longer to heal/merge with the recipient's body.

The point above means that Lucas had either a patella graft taken out, or a hamstring graft taken out. In either case, the rate of muscle atrophy during the early stages of recovery is alarmingly high; quad, calf, and hamstring muscles melt away VERY quickly.

If a hamstring graft was used, it means that the leg the graft was taken from will never be as strong as it was before. Mentally, this means one has to readjust their running gait and ball technique. Even if he plays again after 6 months, his knee will be unstable and his muscles will not hold up for long. Keep in mind that the left knee (which Lucas injured) is the one that is 'planted' when one is passing/shooting, which means that has to be able to sustain a massive amount of force. Full recovery (100% in stringer knee and ~90% in operated knee) takes approx. 18 months.

Using a patella tendon greatly reduces agility and is far more painful. Recovery time is roughly the same, but the hamstring may return to full strength.

I personally had ACL reconstruction surgery in December (at about the same time Lucas had his) and have been going for rehab twice a week since then, but my knee still feels wobbly and I've not been granted permission to play yet.

For every Jovetic and (seemingly) Affelay that comes back strongly from this type of injury, there's an Essien, Sahin, Ronaldo (Fenomeno), and OWEN who struggles to come back.

Clubs take great precaution in allowing players to return from this type of injury because it can become a recurring theme, as was the case with Ronaldo.

I hope Lucas proves science wrong and comes back with a bang in pre-season.

On the bright side, at least his injury isn't as bad as The NBA's Shaun Livingston who tore "the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), and the lateral meniscus, badly sprained his medial collateral ligament (MCL), and dislocated his patella and his tibia-femoral joint."

McAlien

Agree totally with your post. I ruptured my cruciate ligaments as well as my medial, and still have a tear in my lateral meniscus 3 years ago. They took a part of my hamstring which is still weak now, always having twinges and pulls, and my lower leg feels loose from my knee. I feel the power has gone from my shots and long range passes. hopefully lucas comes back fit and healthy, and he never did any long passes or shots which will help :)
DAR

I completely snapped the 3 Ligaments in my knee, after about 3 operations i had to go back for reconstruction using my hamstring... that was 5 years ago and i am back playing semi-pro football, now that's not on Lucas level... but my knee is perfect and i did not have no were near the treatment Lucas would receive... Hopefully he comes back good as new...

G BOX

I suffered, i ruptured ACL, MCL, bucket tear to the outer meniscus & sprained lateral tendon in september 11, had my opp ~the same day +/- 1 as Lucas Dec 14th (hamstring graft), and i feel great sprinting feels smooth standing broad jump is as far as ever, lost some height on the vertical jump, but it is progressing my dead lift numbers are back to the same level and squatting at 70% of what i was pre injury. It just takes alot of hard work in the gym and physio sessions, and listening to your body whenn to piush through the pain (definatley worth doing over the first few days to get your range of movement back) and when to back off. I did it all using NHS wales physios who really pushed me and i had great surgeon. I'm sure Lucas will be ready, he is the type of carachter to carry out the rehab process with full commitment, and with the medical staff and facilities he would have access to i'm sure he'll be ready for pre season!

(N.B. Although it does take 18months+ for the graft to reach ultimate strength it is astrong as an actual ACL after ~8-9months)

g-doo

Thanks for the information, it's good of you to share.

I'm hoping he'll come back strong. He's a determined player, so if his body doesn't hold up his mind certainly will.

Papa G

04 Jul 2012 12:12:25
What about young Jordan Rhodes as a striking option? He is young and scores goals, relatively cheap! Rekon he could make the jump eds? Even as a backup to Andy Carroll...? What's everyones opinion on him?

Nath

Kompany vidic and terry would eat him up

04 Jul 2012 12:02:43
Hi eds, if Suarez and Carroll stay, do you see us still buying a striker? Or will we just buy 1 or 2 attacking midfielders - e.g Ramirez, afellay? Cheers YNWA

Ilsinho {Ed002's Note - Yes, a striker will be looked at.}

04 Jul 2012 12:02:09
Liverpool have already tabled a bid for Wayne Rooney thought to be in the region of £35mil with a wage structure of around £200k a year and a second bid of £20mil for Fellani. The Fellani deal is being used as leverage to entice Rooney to Anfield with the promise that Fellani has agreed to 2 hair cuts a month so Liverpool can donate the hair to Wayne's implant specialist to bring his replacement hair proceedure costs down. you heard it here first. Just thought i would start a rumour on the rumours page as most people seem to only ask questions of the EDs

04 Jul 2012 12:00:42
Has LFC even placed a bid for Gylfi? It seems like his definitely going to Spurs..

04 Jul 2012 11:58:41
echo rodgers back in for joe allen,so much for the gents agreement!

As far as I am aware the gentleman's agreement becomes invalid as soon as another club makes a bid for a Swansea players. I could be wrong though. {Ed002's Note - If there is an agreement it won't have any weird caveats such as that. The bottom line is that if an agreement exists then I would expect Liverpool to honour it.}

04 Jul 2012 11:56:55
I can assess the squad for you Mr. Rodgers. Get rid of; Adam, Cole, Aquilani, Doni (50k a week for bench warming), Jones (20k a week for...err...), Spearing, Bellamy and Maxi. Loan out; Flanagan, Robinson, Suso, Wilson and Shelvey.

To bring in;

2 wingers - quick, skillful, scores goals, deteremined etc. Ramirez sounds like a good choice fo the left.

1 playmaker - 1st choice now gone to Spurs so assess other possible targets.

And if possible 1 striker - cheap/ish, scoes goals, determined, good link up etc. Someone like de Jong.

And definetly definetly NO ENGLISH PLAYERS!!

Why do Liverpool always take the slow boat, United, Arsenal and Chelsea had most of their deals lined up even before the transfer window opened. Spurs even managed to wrap up snatch when they didn't even have a manager, but as usual slow pokes Liverpool have to assess everything first, the season will have nearly started and most of decent players snapped up before we make any moves, or maybe that was the plan all along. The OP is correct he called it as it is, its not one of the labour's of Hercules to see what's needed at Liverpool and whats not.

Jadfo

Also forgot to add a defensive midfielder what with Lucas not fit enough yet - Nigel de jong, or someone in his category perhaps.

What happens if Reina gets sent off again? After what happened last season, personally I would at least replace them.

Barca and Madrid don't have decent backup keepers.

04 Jul 2012 11:26:27
Although I agree he'll be a good player and always stood behind him... If he's the next xavi that what will that make Wilshere and Ramsey for Arsenal? Beyond the talents of Messi if we're working with you're similarities.

Henderson needs to be given a chance and support. Good post :)

What's wrong with English players? All the successful EPL teams have English players.

Man Utd - Ferdinand, Scholes, Young, Rooney, Cleverly, Wellbeck and Jones.

City - Hart, Richards, Milner, Barry and Lescott.

Chelsea - Terry, Cole, Lampard, Cahill and Sturridge.

I couldn't care less where any new signings come from just as long as they have the talent. There is nothing wrong with English players, you just need to buy the right ones.

Would you say no more French players after the experience we have had with Le Tellec, Cheyrou and N'Gog?

JRG

sky sources sigurdsson close to signing for spurs another target lost its hard to take when players choose other clubs over us we always seem to act slowly in the transfer market we will properly make transfer towards the end of the transfer window again when they haven't had a decent pre season with us

Is your post meant to be some kind of a joke? Why was it a target lost when it's common & (rather old) knowledge the fella went for the money?

I don`t think we even made an offical offer for the player anyway. John

We haven't 'lost out' to Spurs because we didn't bid for him. Rodgers obviously has other, possibly better, targets in mind, i.e. Gaston Ramirez.
Lets just see what happens.

Not sure it means anything, but Pacheco is back in Liverpool for the first squad meeting. Pictures available on the official site.

Had a dream last night we won the first game of the season either 6-1 or 7-1 (bit fuzzy) and sterling scored.

Take more water with it and the dreams will be less fuzzy

this year with the style of play Rodgers wants, he's stated he wants us to play like Spain, Spain have an excellent keeper, solid back 4 apart from arbeloa, then most of their squad are just quality passers of the ball e.g xavi iniesta silva fabregas alonso busquets, for Liverpool adam aquailani henderson have been slated since there transfers but these three players are brilliant passes of the ball along with gerrard and lucas i honestly thing the tikki takka type of football will suit liverpool as we dont have alot of pace in the squad, if only we did this when we had alonso masch torres(in form), we may need a few more attacking additions and a solid defender if skrtel decided he wants to leave. bright future for liverpool YNWA

"Apart from Arbeloa" - you're just saying that because he is the only Spaniard first team player not to make the squad of the tournament at the euros. Jumping on the bandwagon. Arbeloa is a great player - Rafa should never have sold him.

I just don't see how or why the Ed's STILL believe Alberto Aquilani does not want to play for Liverpool. Dalglish didn't rate the guy and even went on t say that he didn't fit his system. Now i also red some people or des saying that he is a sly guy bug what shyness is there if your manager does not want you but you want to play soccer?!?!?!. The guy just needs the promise of being involved. I don't know what Rogers will think of him but i firmly beleve Aquilani does want to play for Liverpool and this rubbish of his heart not being here is crap. If Rogers wants a guy who fits in his indicate passing game. Aquilani does that as its what he is good at....

Sorry, the guy has a serious attitude problem, and although does have some talent, all the talent in the world means nothing when your heart isn't in it. He has messed us about big time.

It takes a tremendous amount of bad attitude by a player to agree to a very expensive move and receive high wages and then not have any passion to play for the club and its fans who put so much faith in him...Aquilani is a shameful footballer

hai Ed..great site..Great work..

I have a question for you..
IF u had an option to buy one player with 30 mill euros..or around it...whom would you buy for LFC today and Y?

pls explain and reply..

YNWA {Ed002's Note - I am sorry, I don't really do this but others will no doubt say.}

I would buy Munian.

For anyone believing wage demands was the reason for not signing Sigurdsson are for me just an excuse for the real reason we didn't sign him. Tottenham won't sign Adebayor, someone who scored 17 goals for them last season, because of his wage demands. 60k per week is what is rumoured they have offered him. Van der Vaart is on 45k, along with Lennon, Bale, Parker etc. They will demand a pay rise if they se him getting those wages when they have proven themselves for Spurs.

For me, seeing Gylfi, a quality player, who BR worked with and wanted, after weeks of interest, allow him to join a rival for 4th place at the final stages has only reaffirmed the belief i have of the people who run this once mighty club; they cannot backup anything they say. They can talk the talk but that is it. Especially, when it comes to signing players.

The combination of a healthy financial position and a strong history of success and support SHOULD allow us to sign top quality players. You know the players I mean right? The ones the likes of Chelsea and Spurs are often linked with; the Hazards, The Sigurdssons, and who they usually get.

100m was available to spend on new players last year. Imagine that! Finally so financial muscle we didn't have during Rafa's reign, when we managed to attract the likes of Torres and Mascherano. So, who did we sign? Ashley Young? 15m seemed fair. Nope. He went to United. We signed his buddy, Stewart Downing for 5m more. funally enough no one else was interested in him.....or Henderson.....or Carroll......or Adam......or Bellamy.

And that is my point. We only sign players who the other big clubs aren't interested in. Do you honestly believe we WOULD have tried to sign the likes of Suarez and Torres if the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, AC Milan etc. wanted their signatures too?

These 3-4 player BR says we need I trully believe that he knows who they are and I also believe that Sigurdsson was one of them. It's funny isn't it? That he was prepared to sign for no disrespect a smaller club in Swansea and they were happy to sign him for the wages he would have been on, yet when BR ants him at Liverpool, it drags on for weeks, and another club sign him towards the end.

Please prove me wrong BR and FSG. Because from the list of players we have been linked with so far, the best of the lot (quality and fee wise) hasn't joined when it seemed inevitable weeks ago that he would. Otherwise this club will take years to regroup and to reform.

Actually man utd wanted henderson, spurs had bid for carroll, adam had other offers as had bellamy! just sayin buddy
scousedel

United were never going to buy Hendo...they were supposedly buying him for the past three seasons before we bought him...if they really wanted him then they would have bought him ages ago

And as regards Ashley Young - we dodged a bullet

On the face of it, this improvement has not yet been reflected in the figures, as Liverpool announced a £49.3 million loss before tax for 2010/11, £29 million worse than the previous year, though much of this was due to clearing up the mess left by the cowboys with the club booking enormous exceptional expenses of £59m, mainly £49.6 million relating to the aborted stadium plans and £8.4 million termination payments to Hodgson (and his backroom staff) plus Purslow.

This is fairly typical of new management coming in and cleaning house. As Ayre said, It is a big loss and a big write-off, but it means that it's gone forever now and we can move forward without that around our neck.

Excluding exceptional expenses, Liverpool would actually have made a profit of around £10 million, but  the worrying thing is that this was only after hefty profits on player sales of £43 million, largely Fernando Torres to Chelsea and Javier Mascherano to Barcelona. If both once-off items are excluded, the underlying loss is around £34 million, similar to the previous year.

Although EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxation, Depreciation and Amortisation) is positive at £10 million, it has declined for the second year in succession and is on the low side, e.g. Manchester United's is £111 million. After taking into consideration depreciation and player amortisation (an important part of any football club's business), Liverpool's operating loss excluding exceptionals was £31 million.

In fact, Liverpool have consistently been making losses with only one profit reported in the football club in the last six years (2008, boosted by large player sales). Losses were even higher at the holding company level, after including all interest payable, amounting to a shocking £178 million in the four years before Hicks and Gillette exited stage left (2007 £33 million, 2008 £41 million, 2009 £55 million and 2010 £49 million).

The Reds also have to pull their socks up if we consider that many other teams are improving their financial performance. In 2009/10 only four clubs in the Premier League made a profit, but this doubled to eight in 2010/11 with many maintaining solid finances while performing well on the pitch, e.g. Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle United. On the other hand, there are still clubs registering large losses in their pursuit of honours, notably Manchester City £197 million and Chelsea £67 million.

Where Liverpool have done well is to hold their revenue at about the same level following the £21 million reduction due to the failure to qualify for the Champions League. They compensated this with a £7 million increase in the Premier League distribution, thanks to the improved central deal, and a striking £15 million increase in commercial income.

Uniquely among leading English clubs, the highest proportion of Liverpool's revenue comes from their commercial arm with 42%. In fact, this has been the main driver of the club's revenue growth, contributing £40 million (63%) of the £64 million rise in the last five years.

Even so, the operating loss widened following a £15 million increase in the wage bill, which grew 13% from £114 million to £129 million (excluding termination payments), meaning that the important wages to turnover ratio increased from 62% to 70%. This is much worse than Manchester United 46%, Arsenal 55% and Spurs 56%, but considerably better than Manchester City 114%.

Player amortisation, the annual cost writing-off transfer fees, fell to £36 million, though it is likely to rise after last summer's acquisitions, although will again be far behind Manchester City's £84 million.

All in all, Liverpool should really be doing better with the resources at their disposal, both in terms of their revenue and wage bill." (quoted from swiss rambler)

Sly reporting Gylfi v close to completing Spurs move.I dont think we should've hung on awaiting his decision.Could be seen as weakness.Should've said if you aint decided by x date were out totally. Its got to be Greed if he does sign for Spurs. They had no manager, one they've got flopped.Apparently had no respect at Chavski.Had mickey taken for sticker charts he uses.Even Lineaker not impressed with his credentials.Surely better the devil you know!Ok Rodgers aint exactly Mr.lifetime prem manager experience. And Spurs do apparently have fair bit of cash to spend. But think and hope if he does sign for them,it'll bite him on a se!

Not Liverpool related but I was just told Graham Carr head scout of newcastle's son is Alan Carr from tv. The guy from friday night project and chatty man. Personally if i was Graham i would have dis owned him he makes me cringe.

Did anyone not already know this?

Any truth in the rumour that FSG are slowly introducing a wage cap at LFC? I heard they are willing to pay transfer fees but unwilling to offer silly contracts. {Ed002's Note - You cannot sensibly introduce a wage cap retrospectively. They will certainly be wanting to reduce the wage bill and will certainly be hesitant about offering high wages to the likes of El Zhar.}

Hi Eds,

any news on Rogers' backroom staff? I'd like to see Rodolfo promoted to the first team coach, and Xavi Valero to return.

For me, having these two in the first-team setup will make a bigger improvement to the squad than any new signing!

cheers,

is AVB taking over spurs has any effect on Sig situation? {Ed002's Note - No.}

04 Jul 2012 10:52:29
If gylfi does sign for spurs then im not all that bothered in a way. It will show that Rodgers is not willing to enter ther market without first assessing who and where needs replacing or strengthening. I really do want the player, but im just glad that we arent simply flexing our muscle in rushing into a purchase like Spurs seem content on doing, i mean AVB is just in and cant have had a chance to assess the team. I mean they have Huddlestone due back to fitness and young Livermore who could both be seen as similar to Gylfi.

Anfield Andy

He obviousl does not rate Rodgers

He 'obviously' does rate money!

AVB (whilst at Chelsea) 'All come & cuddle me on the touchline when we score to show there is unity' ...I still cringe when I think back to that.

Hey eds do you expect Adam to leave? Huge competition where he is the weakest.

DanielDenmark {Ed002's Note - I would not "expect" him to leave. He remains on the injury list right now - and as an aside, the club have said that Lucas will likely miss the preseason. This may well be simply a case of them not wishing to risk him.}

Is Lucas missing preseason?

Hi Eds

im just reading Fowlers book and he explains how unlucky roy was when he was in charge with the likes of collymore not trying ruddock not giving a f--k, so with this in mind i think we have to calm down a bit buck relly has to get in round the team take stock of what he has root out the players that wont do it for him and hopefully move them on sometimes getting rid of a rotten apple is as good as a new signing,i dont think we are that far off being a really good team with young players ready to be part of the squad and a few good additions to compliment the squad further at least a good push for top 4 can be expected. In buck we trust.Tommy Irish Red.

I don't think we should be dissapointed if Sig does not sign.Ed's who between Cabaye and Sig would you choose I would go for Cabaye more experience full international he offers a bit more. What your feeling.

Thanks Ed's
Zorro {Ed002's Note - I am sure others will have an opinion.}

Cabaye all day long. He is a complete central midfielder who can tackle, score, create goals. For the AM position, i wud have ramirez over sigurdsson.

Hi Ed's and Reds

With it looking increasingly likely Gylfi is signing for The Spuds, I'd just like to give my thoughts. I think he's missed a huge trick here. In my opinion it was BR and BR's system of play that made Gylfi look good last season. At Liverpool under a similar system again, I think he could have flourished. By moving to Spuds, for what appears to be the money, I believe he's made a massive mistake. With Bale, VDV, Modric etc already there (agreed at least one of VDV or Modric will leave) he' s gonna see a fair amount of the bench. At the end of the day he's rated in the 7-9 million pound bracket, not the 20-30 million pound bracket. I think Gylfi will look back in 18 months time, granted with a bigger bank balance, but realising greed overcame sense.

Mark the Selby Red

He can cry into all his money :) , someone already said what you said but its a good point , gylfi fitted into BRs style of play , the question is will he do the same at spurs

04 Jul 2012 09:30:55
people seem to be forgetting that Rodgers was the man who brought Sigurdsson to Swansea.. i trust him to find a player to come into Liverpool and make such an impact as well.

04 Jul 2012 09:19:03
I'm sorry for I'm afraid I will be a bit critical here.. I just saw the reply about Chelsea etc adding more and more quality etc and it really annoys me, for a start Chelsea wanted to have a less ego orientated group and yet in hazzard they've bought possibly the biggest ego around, I'm not sure about hulk so I won't comment...

If financial fair play has any legs man city are screwed enough said..

Man u there squad is not that great but incrediblly and you have to take your hat off Fergie grinds the results out season after season..

Finally totenham selling modric I would presume and they have a very small squad and without ade unless they sign a top striker I don't think personally they will trouble top 4. And they are in the same position as us no cl and no stupid wages to offer.

I do think arsenal are really developing now after they are near fully recovered from the stadium, although they have signed players with a lot to prove I do think they have a lot of quality in their squad.

Apologies second and final rant over I just hate people thinking if we don't sign cavani etc. They aren't great players or at least ones with potential and you have to consider off field preformance aswell.
Shanek Lfc

Chelsea only spending their CL winning money, aren't they? The FFP rules I think will not work, as all the big spenders will get around it somehow like what City are alleged to have done/doing with the stadium sponsorship!

Keith

Gaston Ramirez
Theo Walcott
Daniel Sturridge (hoping he is well and feeling better)
Gylfi Sigurdsson/Ibrahim Afellay
Juan Manuel Vargas

These I believe are the main targets.

There doesn't seem a lot of reference to facts on here (As the great man Rafa once said). Just to point out - Rodgers tried to get Sterling whilst at Swansea - expect him to play a fair bit. Rafa via his Independent column mentions Suso as a top prospect - I would expect Rodgers is starting to know more about the youth coming through. I really don't think we need to look far - especially as Rodgers is quoted as whoever comes in has to be top top quality to improve things. I expect likes of Ramirez to come in - and also would not be suprised if Carroll goes!

I would not get hung up on players - trust Rodgers - trust the playing style that will be right through the club.

Paulo {Ed002's Note - Sterling was not old enough to go on loan last yer - and still isn't.}

We will be in trouble if we take any notice of what the waiter says.

04 Jul 2012 09:09:59
Although his post is correct for the most part none of what he is saying is particularly groundbreaking or innovative he has just given a basic analysis.. I'm sure anyone could have come up with 3-4 impact "hidden gems" could help.. I don't really want to sound too negative because his post was well structured and a good read.. but relegation? And in reference to your analigies are you saying then that Brendan along with the owners and a bulk of the players are just going to be completely casual while they stoop lower in the leagues? It is completely different to what you're saying as with Liverpool you can see weekly how you're doing whereas with empires and companies it is usually years of complacency by one man at the top and a quite sudden downfall which can't really happen at a football club, it would take a lot more stupidity from all parties involved which I can't really see happening at Liverpool at the moment, although once again I do respect where you're coming from. Finally you have failed to leave out key elements of FSG's regime, the reducing of wage bill, squad age aswell as record sponsorship deals as mentioned above and hopefully soon we can add development of 60000 seater stadium.I hope I didn't come across too negative or critical as I really did enjoy his post.Shanek Lfc

Sorry eds this was a reply to the long post analysing things, I hit reply to post not sure what happened.. if possible could it be moved to a reply to that post as here it just looks a bit idiotic? Thanks (might be because I'm using a phone?)

Morning could you post this in banter please and maybe give your opinion too?

03 Jul 2012 20:05:51
It seems obvious that Rodgers will favour playing a 4-3-3 formation with the emphasis heavily on possession football.
With this in mind you have to look at who fits this formation, who doesn't and who can come in to make it work.
For me Johnson will be ideal at right back and Agger suits the ball playing CB roll perfectly partnered with Skrtel it looks ok and maybe even better in time with Coates coming through.
Left back is a different proposition, I like Enrique but is he best suited to being a good attacking option with his lack of pace? Maybe not.
In midfield Lucas (let's hope he comes back as good) is ideal and Gerrard will be there for a while yet but who with? I personally don't see Spearing, Shelvey (yet), Adam or Henderson (yet) being the answer.
As for attacking options, well you all know I'm not a fan of Carroll but give him his due he was starting to look more impressive towards the end of the season, however I don't think Rodgers will believe he has the attributes to fit the system.
Suarez on the other hand will, I believe, thrive in the system but again the question is who with?
Well I've asked the questions now let me try to give some options for answers
Left back:
Alex Sandro
Georgi Schennikov
Marcel Schmeltzer

Attacking midfield:
(assuming it won't be sig)
Yarmalenko
Brahimi
Ramirez
Ganso
Belhanda
Valbuena
Johnson

Forward:
De Jong (seems unlikely)
Soldado
Guidetti
Rhodes (just because he fits the bill as a finisher)
Obviously we also have some top young talent who I hope will come through but lets not try and rush them.

I have no idea of the likelihood of any of the players I have mentioned I'm just thinking out loud (if you know what I mean)

Eds and posters thoughts would be welcome

Chris in Tamworth

Well thought out Chris; not far off the mark methinks. What do you think if Skyrtel leaves? Gerrard playing that position? Would be total football from the back, would extend his career.
................reina
johnson..gerrard..agger..enrique
.....valbuena..lucas...adam.....
...suarez....de jong....ramirez...

Agree by and large Chris, but Enrique has a lack of pace? He is one of the quickest in our squad (and could have been a sprinter). It's his positioning that worries me. I think the lack of competition at left back last season made him a bit comfortable. Someone a bit different like Vargas to push him could be what we need.

JF

I know Enrique is supposed to be quick but I always thought he struggled to get back after any forward runs, maybe that's due to lack of effort or lack of positional sense rather than lack of speed but that's how it looked to me on more than one occasion

Chris in Tamworth

Agreed mate. I always got the feeling he was trying too hard when going forward. When things didn't come off, his head seemed to go and he drifted out of position. First few months his defending and recovery were immense, but he beame increasingly sloppy. I hope BR can give him the confidence to relax and play. If he can step up and the rest maintain their form, we could have one of the best back 4s in the league.

JF

I no what you mean about enrique chris ..he looks good at times but seems to get caught out of postion and is very one footed ...i rem the 3rd goal ag qpr he was all at sea....dave d

For the first 4 months he was our best player i think he needed a rest run himself into the ground.Tommy Irish red.

Couple of questions in regards to coaches.

1. When can we expect the appointment of Colin Pascoe, Chris Davies and Glen Driscoll to the backroom staff to be confirmed? Surely they would be confirmed pretty soon as pre-season will be starting again on Saturday.

2. Pascoe will surely become assistant manager. Is there any coach in the pipeline to become First Team Coach?

3. I remember Ed's on here mentioning that John Achterberg had also been sacked. His profile is still on the LFC website. Is he staying or will we appoint a new goalkeeping coach, Xavi Valero was linked with a return.

Cheers Ed's.

Danny {Ed002's Note - The coaches will be in place now. I am not sure there is a difference between the two. There is nothing more than rumour about Valero.}

BR said he wants players that will really improve the squad.
three players on the way that will improve us greatly are
Ramirez, A.Johnson and Jolevic (fiorentina)

Ramirez wud be great. I want him to replace charlie adam. Johnson is overrated and Jovetic is unlikely. How about Susaeta and Castaignos instead?

I'm looking forward to bringing in three or four players that can really affect the group. I've got a wonderful group of players here at the moment.

The reality is there are very few players who can come and make a difference to Liverpool. Rodgers said.

If he believes that, he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Hi Eds

Great site.

1) I just want to know what you feel about the likes of Suso, Sterling and Pacheco getting more game time.

2) With Lucas, Aquaman returning. They are like new signings.

3) Also we have Shelvey who looks very promising to me.

We need to sell joe cole, include youngsters in the Cup games and Europa League.

PKM {Ed002's Note - I still expect Pacheco to possibly leave - the others will get some game time. Joe Cole will be subject to discussion and we will see what interest is shown.}

ED002 I was not trying to be a jerk with my response I just wanted to let you know that I do understand the basic finances in football I just don't understand how Man U and Liverpool can have such a gap in ability to pay for players. In my mind better players brings more money with greater sponsorship deals, larger international audience, etc. So with Man U's debt being equal to LFC's 30,000 less seats stadium and lack of CL I don't see why we cannot afford more expensive players and Man U can. I chose Man U because their business platform is similar to ours. Thanks.

Coley {Ed002's Note - Manchester United turnover more than double what Liverpool do. They make a significant profit whilst Liverpool make a significant loss. It is nothing to do with their debt (which they easily service) being compared to seating at Anfield.}

Danny {Ed002's Note - Staff contracts would likely have become active for coaching staff on July 1. Other staff are all in place. I have no idea about the Valero rumours but there is nothing from the club.}

Brendan Rodgers needs to asses the squad further but in my honest opinion I think Suso should be our AM next season, he would be better than gylfi anyway. Suso would be fantastic in BR style of play, he's calm composed and tough for a small guy, you all know his technical ability is exceptional for his age and his eye for a pass is brilliant. We don't want to put pressure on the lad but I think with Lucas, Gerrard, Suso and Suarez we could see something special(I think they would suit the new style best) I just know that Suarez would love working with Suso.
Also I think we should save money on this position and spend it somewhere else(we are supposed to use our youth team anyway not just buy everyone) don't get me wrong I would love someone like Ramirez but I would much prefer to see Suso given a chance.but that's just me. I trust BR will make the right decisions.

Square tomato

............Lucas
Gerrard .......... Suso

Suarez .............. Ramirez
............Carroll

Great post. Spot on. That pass in the mini derby Vs Everton (with a few of their 1st teamers in) was unbelievable vision. I would use Suso and Texeira on a rotation in one of the AM positions to give them game time but allow recovery and development with the coaches.

Sigurdsson will certainly sign for spuds....word at anfield is he was trying to hold us to ransom but we would not give into it but spuds have....GREED is the downfall of many men

Maybe he just did not want to play for looserpool...

gylfi sigg played well under BR ,he fitted into the system very well , if BR re-creates the same passing game at liverpool then im very sure he will get a better player than siggy , after all he was on the bench at hoffeniem , BR took him off that bench and gave him a platform which in BRs system he looked very good , for me i dont think he will play that good for spurs , as they play a different formation and system , so they will give a player who will not play that well megga bucks in wages , BR has a lot of contacts all over europe and he will get the right players to play in his formation and system , some have mentioned tello of barca , BR has contacts at barca and could get him on loan with an option to buy , or maybe we may just buy him , BR has said he keeps his own council and no one knows who we are after , especially the press and sly sports , so whoever they say are just making it up , aquaman would fit into the style of play that swansea played last year , but i think joe cole is to slow for the wing , again speculatiom by myself as i dont have a clue about what BR thinks , anyway its not that long now untill we find out our 1st signing ,,,,,,,,,,mickey b

People should stop comparing how FSG run the red sox and how they run Liverpool. The two sports are managed completely differently it's like assuming abramovic runs Chelsea the same as his oil company.

They will not spend 300 million a year on wages like they do in Boston. In addition to the sports being different the amount of money Liverpool and Boston make is vastly different. Anytime you insinuate that they will throw money at Liverpool because you've seen them spend money in Boston just highlights your ignorance of both baseball and business.

Nevada

As far as I'm aware no one is expecting them to manage Liverpool in the same way, financially or otherwise. However FSG have made a very public commitment to 'Take LFC back to the top'. So what exactly are you trying to communicate with us?

Could U pls get dis one posted plzzzzz!

Jst a question
with Quaresma(despite his attitude lapses) and Simao being willing to be sold by Besiktas 4 financial reasons and Ganso rejecting an offer for new contract, do you fink Liverpool could be in for a swoop? Just a thought. Tnx

04 Jul 2012 04:08:58
so rodgers saying liverpool are not raiding the transfer market this window witch i suppose isnt a bad idea when we have a good squad but we have a unfinished squad we have no right sided player its not rocket science so i suspect suso or stirling or both will be promoted this season. we cant go getting new managers an leting them spend before they even look at the squad so Brendan has gone about it the right way im loveing the man already let alone the Spanish style football he talking about cant wait for next season even if we dont buy in the market lets stop speculating like crazy we wont be buying this window.... maybe the summer so lets get behind the team now ynwa adamlfc

Oh well another mid-table finish it is then. I'm glad you're happy with mediocrity Adam, you may as well get used to it, because under FSG's ownership LFC are going absolutely nowhere.

Good squad..he he he

He said we'll be bringing in 3 or 4 players who'll make a difference!

No he never. He said we'd bring in the players IF they could make a difference.

Hey
I believe if you look at the facts on the siggurdsson deal his likely destination looks pretty obvious. For a start none of the rumours going around seem to have come from any official source, I think the chances of a serious attempt being made by Tottenham are slim. They had other priorities, like signing AVB which they weren't very quiet about. So the way I see it, there is one team. Involved in the speculation as we all know that plays their cards close to their chest and like to keep us guessing. It's exactly like this deal. Personally I think we could do better. I hope I'm wrong if he signs :D

Cudge

He will sign, and you will be wrong.

When does the first team squad report back for pre season training? A week after this would probably be the best time to see some serious LFC transfer market activity. Carlos from Down Under {Ed049's Note - 9th July.}

Its just been on sly that the team return today ,

04 Jul 2012 01:52:44
Ed do you think we will use a 4-3-3 formation under Rodgers? {Ed049's Note - Possibly.}

04 Jul 2012 02:27:29
really hope these players get some chances next season;

suso - i think he could be our Silva/Cesc/Cabaye we just need to trust him.
sterling - need a say anything?
sama - CB but i think he'd make a better DM or Sweeper so that his ball distribution can be used to more effect.

Loans

Toni silva - RW needs to play in a better league than league 2 maybe Holland or Belgium would be best suited for him

Teixeira L/RM - probably the most ready for first team action out of suso, adorjan and himself. but a good loan with regular action would be good. BUT then again he is 19 almost 20 and hasn't played a competitive match for a first team keeping him and letting him train with the first team would be in our and his best interests its a lonng season and he might force himself in BR plans even if its for something like the carling cup..

Very good post, it it highlights the problems we have, if we spend a lot in these positions they will not get any game time to improve. Unlike Spain we do not have a B team to bridge the gap between the first team and reserves. And can you name the last young player we sent out on loan and came back and established himself?

Hello eds, just been Reading BBC gossip column. And the s** is reporting ac Milan interest in andy Carroll. Is there any truth in this or is it just "silly season" lazy journalism? Hope it's not true! Think andy will be awsome for us this year, besides I don't think andy will fancy living in Italy anyway! at the back end of the season and during euros he looked sharper, leaner and fitter than he's ever done for us, hopefully he looks after himself during the summer and he'll be ready to become a real hero for us next season starting with a goal or three v WBA on 18th august!
{Ed049's Note - I don't believe that it's true mate and as you've mentioned it is from the gossip section, so all i can say is pay no heed to these stupid rumors.}

Hi Eds,

Great site.

Inclusions required in the current window include an attacking midfielder, striker and a winger.

1) AM - Ramirez
2) Striker - Luuk De jong
3) Winger - Krasic.

I really dont get the hate for aqualani, ok off the pitch he might be a little a**hole, lazy etc.

But on the pitch, the way he and gerrard understood one n other, they way they played together on the same wave length, was magical at times.

And thats without him having a decent run in the team to actually build a relationship.

I was going to post a vid link but cant find it anywhere!, it shows possibly the greatest passing move ever produced, and im sure many of you will remember it, and how its kind of hollow because kuyt couldnt get it in the net. Where it was like ping pong on the edge of the box, between aqua, stevie and kuyt, then out to johnson, whipped in and kuyt puts over? in europa league i believe.

Point is, he a great attacking football with a footballing brain, even if hes a toe rag off the pitch. please post your thoughts. i think he can do a quality job, provided is head and heart are in it!

Benny baller

I really really really rate him as a footballer, he's intelligent and technically speaking, he's fantastic. But your comments about how he is off the field are a little naive, i feel. These guys spend almost every day in each others pockets, sometimes they live together, eat together and generally socialise together, they need to get along. We need to remember that these players are not robots. In saying that. I've not heard much about him being an a***hole off the pitch, i think the only problem is him not feeling at home here and wanting to be in Italy. The only ones who have really turned on the guy are the fans, because as far as i know, there is no real animosity toward him from our current players.

I've always said that if he wanted to play here, he'd be an absolute hit at Liverpool, but he doesn't and there is nothing we can do about that. To be fair, he's not done alot wrong, he's just had a change of heart. Footballers are still human, they may be treated as commodities by their "owners", but they're still prone to changing their mind and seeing the odd emotional bout come before professionalism.

In summary, i love the player, but he does not want to be here. There is nothing more to it, the rest is up for debate amongst fans, but i wish him luck wherever he winds up.

This is a good time to mention that footballers around the world don't see our club the way us supporters do, they have a much more objective point of view. It seems to us an absolute travesty to not want to play for liverpool, but we need to step back and see this from the players point of view.

Red7.

Hear hear or here here Red 7....Miami_red

What sort of professional signs a 5/6 year contract and after 3 months decides he doesn't want to live in England or play for the club he just signed for. And the thing about faking injuries to avoid training and delaying his own comeback? I love him on the pitch but clearly off the pitch there are bigger problems than we know about...

04 Jul 2012 01:17:11
Hi everyone Brendan Rodgers is going to bring the same style of play to lfc that he did with swansea so i would like to see the joe allen type of player as siggurdson is not on our radar anymore so forget about him it's gonna be a good time underBR i am sure of that...

Joe Allen will be signed next summer. We also have Suso.

Eds, do you think it's likely that Sigurdsson is just angling for a better deal with Liverpool by making it seem like he's on the verge on moving to Spurs? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

Sterling {Ed049's Note - Wishful thinking.}

04 Jul 2012 01:13:45

Hello Ed's, you do a fantastic job and were thoroughly grateful. Could you please answer this...how likely are the following to join Liverpool, out of 10?
Ramirez, Sigurdsson, Allen, Clasie, Walcott, A.Johnson, Belhanda, Davis (Ex-Rangers), Sinclair, Jovetic?

Thanks in advance! {Ed049's Note - We don't play the number game.Sorry}

Hi all, not sure how many of you watched the Spain U19's game, but Suso was very good, I don't think he gave the ball away once. He played slightly deeper than we are used to seeing him, and was one of the only Spain players to play well for the whole 90 minutes. The great thing about it was that he wasn't even playing anywhere near his best. We have got potentially one hell of a player in him. Was it just me or did he also look like he had grown a bit? He appeared to be a bit taller, although it could have been the fact that all of the Spanish players are tiny lol. I really do think he could play regularly next season for us, maybe not starting but certainly a place on the bench and a run in the Cups and Europa League.

benny baller

The only problem i have is attitude. But there is no doubting the guys talent, he's a very very good player, just doesn't want to play for us... On that basis, he can go away.

What an obscene waste of money that man has been for our club.

He is an embarrassment to the sport and it is cringeworthy that he is on our books.

In summary - I am not a fan!

LIVERPRES

The lad can play theres no issue there, I was based in Naples for a while when the Transfer went through, and the italians thought we would never have got him if he wasn't allways injured, and those problems seem behind him now. But the fact is he could be Lionel Messi, he just does not wan't to be in Liverpool. Every other club Knows this, so nobody is going to pay us for him as they know we have to get rid of him.
But if you don't care one way or the other why ask?

I know that for the last few years, our name alone has no longer been able to attract the cream of the crop, however, does anyone else agree that it may be that very name that causes potential targets to ask for the fantasy wages?
Gylfi is a perfect example, this is a player that was perfectly happy to join a Swansea side that surely, was not going to be paying him superstar wages. Fastforeward a couple of weeks, and it seems as if the name 'Liverpool' has made him think that by rights, he can ask for massive wages, hence the club stepping back from the transfer.

RedNero

I don't really think that it is as simple as asking for higher wages because it is Liverpool. It's probably down to wanting to be on the same wages as the people you are playing with.
Hypothetically speaking, if he was offered 35,000 a week at Swansea he would probably be top earner and happy. However, at Liverpool top first team players would be on far more than this. If you were in this position at a company would you be happy on half of what others were on and you felt you brought the same to the table?
Just another perspective, maybe it's not fantasy wages if others get it!

There was no talk of wages til spurs stuck there nose in

Isnt there also an issue that Hoffenheim want more from us than they did from Swansea? We havent even agreed a fee with Hoffenheim have we?

LIVERPRES

Can somebody please tell me what the issues where between liverpool and dani pacheco please

I think the lad rode his own hype and didnt put in the effort to earn a first team spot - he resented the clubs stance and the relationship soured. That is my take on it (only from other's comments on here mate).

Anyone else think Glyfi been keeping us as a fall back option? Very disrespectful to one of Worlds most iconic clubs, imo

I don't think that'd be the case at all. Agents and newspapers are a different story, they have zero respect for anything on the planet, living or not, and the only people we are hearing from are journos and agent.
When we hear from a club or a player, we'll know the entire story. Don't hate the player, hate the game!

Even if Suarez did leave 30 mil what a joke, he has the potenial to be one of the greats

If we sell him for that, in 2 years the owners will be crying in their soup when he is one of the top 5 players in the world

Suarez easily £40m+

Anything less would be robbery

Suarez is easily worth 2 of carroll

will Suso likely be given first team experience this season with Rodgers at the helm, please answer with your opinion.

I doubt it, maybe a preseason hit out or even a few 10-15 minute appearances in cup matches, that'd be about it. He's doing well where he is, so i say keep it up for now.
