Just wanted to say. although we are not at the standard we expect at the moment, I still can't help but feel optimistic.
I don't genuinely expect us to do much this season, but still find myself singing the we are Liverpool song almost daily. Even when I'm just breaking into a gentle stroll, or doing the dishes, whatever.

I love being a Liverpool supporter, and always will do regardless of whatever situation we are in.
You never know what could happen with us reds. 😃

Believable12 Unbelievable1

I totally agree with you rustyred. We could yet have a good season. Unfortunatly if we finish 5th ir 6th then that will be seen as a bad season? Rodgers will be under the cosh and were probably starting from scratch with a new Manager.

I will always beleive in us and i'm hoping we win this saturday and every game we go into mate.

Agree2 Disagree1

what have we got to be optimistic about? Have you seen the turgid football were playing? Oh yes I forgot we have Sturridge the saviour back in a month or so. By then we'll be in the 3rd division. I never thought i'd ever advocate for Roy Hodgson but that man got dog's abuse for playing the type of football were playing now. people boycotted games and consequently Woy got the sack. Why such loyalty to Rogers? He has systematically made mistake after mistake but he hasn't a case to answer and Hodgson did. Getting of my soapbox now!

We are playing some of the worst footie in years. There is nothing to be proud of.
Either we should sneak in with 3 points or play brilliant. Unfortunately none is happening.

Brendon advocate

I agree mate. I would want all those to compare the spendings of Roy and BR. A big salute to Roy for not wasting money.

Agree9 Disagree2

Well said Brendan's advocate. I really cannot see the club going anywhere under Brendan. He is just a younger version of Hodgson with more money to spend. The performances against leicester and Stoke did not impress me in the slightest because the obvious weaknesses in the squad have not been addressed and average players like Skrtel, Johnson and Mignolet continue to play regularly. The fact that the club is counting on an injury prone striker who has had one good season in his career to arrest the slump just shows the pathetic state the club is in. The club right from top to bottom is run by persons, and unless FSG sack the whole load of them, the slump will continue.

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Dec 2014 09:28:43
Sorry but what are you on about? Roy signed Konchesky, Cole, Miereles, Poulson and Jovanovic. Didn't waste money? He had one signing that kind of vaguely worked before jumping ship after a year, and the rest were unmitigated failures. And his football was worse than any we've seen this year except perhaps the Newcastle game, with a better overall squad (still had Torres, Gerrard in his prime, Mascherano, Carragher and Agger at their best, Reina at his best etc)

Agree1 Disagree1

In response to some of your replys to my original post.
Yes, I have seen us play this season, you'll find me at Anfield most games.

I started supporting the reds as a 7 yr old girl in 1987 in a town full of boys that supported the mancs.
I have been around long enough to see a lot of good and bad happen to our club. I have always had stick for supporting the reds.
If I choose to be proud of that, then it's up to me.
I'm not going to be told not to feel optimistic by people that constantly moan about everything.

Good on you Rusty, loosing optimism is a sure first step to being defeated.

Agree2 Disagree0

Wish there were more SUPPORTers like rusty and less like passion pride who says he has nothing to be proud of. a bloody disgrace

Agree0 Disagree2

Brendan's Advocate.

I agree completely. Too many are putting their heads in the sand. It is good to hear and see support but blind support is ridiculous.

Rodgers is not my style. He really needs more experience and there is that little issue of £100 million being spent.

The football is turgid, I would be surprised if we did anything other than scrape wins.Yet I don't believe we have a bad set of footballers. If Mourinho were in charge with the same players, things would be completely different.

But he is not and there are not many like him.

Houston, we have a problem.

Agree0 Disagree1

I agree Chespool. What with Rodgers being restrained in the press conferences, the team flying high in 9th place, the academy and many of our good youngsters in complete disarray because we spent £50m+ on their replacements before giving them a chance, and back to back wins qgaibst the mighty Stoke and the dreadnought that is Leicester City, how could anybody not be proud of this team right now :D

I'm fully confident we will easily avoid relegation and only lose 1-0 to Basel (a 1-0 CL loss is a good result after all). Who knows, we might even go on a little cup run a get a glamour tie against Tranmere Rovers!

I'm just winding you up of course mate ;) I am still in love with Liverpool. What PassionPride said regarding pride is spot on though. Bill Shankley would be turning in his grave if he heard us saying we're proud of this. He wasn't even proud to finish second.

There is nothing wrong with being optimistic. In fact, it was a refreshing post. However you can't blame people for being pessimistic when we are Championing wins against Stoke, QPR and Leicester etc.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ems how about being proud of being a liverpool supporter no matter what. everyone knows the we are struggling at the moment that's when a team needs support its easy being a supporter when things are going well. how about being optimistic that although we're not playing well we're grinding out results and getting points on the board no let's be pessimistic and think we're going to have a crap season

Agree0 Disagree0

EMS

leave it mate, We know each other here from quiet a long long time and how much we Love the club. This is not the right place to prove it.

Agree0 Disagree0

If your Sunday league team went from second to losing almost week in week out would you be satisfied. No it sucks and the draining of confidence only snowballs until you get a few scrappy results or you topple a team above you. With that said there is always a way through a storm

is it just me but the Main stand is going to look like Liverpool 1 department store!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

It's going to look bloody brilliant and credit to FSG for making it happen.

First it was a bit tongue in cheek, but don't let that stop you! i want the whole ground like that.

Ed0001 I like your evaluations on players and I'm glad you agreed with me on Rossiter last time around but waz just wondering what you think of Markovic do you think he will get a run of starts and how he might develop do you think he will become a world class player like Rodgers has said tbh I rate Ibe and Harry Wilson better than him now atm. Cheers eds don't know why ye aren't tv pundits you all know the game better than most !

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I think Markovic has potential, he has pace, technical ability and works hard at his game, plus tries on the pitch too. The problem is that he needs guiding to improve his ability and to know how to harness those abilities within the team framework for best effect. Right now he is just a bit of a headless chicken, he needs to be coached to make the right runs at the right time and when to chase back and when to hold up the pitch and make the defence stay deep.

I can't see him becoming world class, I just don't think the coaching he will get at Liverpool is good enough to turn him into a world class player, sadly. In my opinion he needed at least one more year at Benfica, with better coaching and guaranteed first team football. I think he has moved to us too early and it will stunt his development, as well as the academy youngsters that could have gotten the odd runout in his place.

Hopefully I am wrong, and he will get the tactical guidance he needs to develop his skills to the fullest, but sitting on the bench week in and week out is of no use to the lad.}

Spot on about the coaching, are there any plans afoot to sign coaches that you know of eds?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

Is the coaching sterling has gotten not the same ed or would he be of a higher priority with the coaches

Agree4 Disagree0

Early days and maybe unfair to judge based on very few games but I am not convinced he has the toughness required for the PL. I refer mainly to physical toughness (although he did look a bit lost when he played, so maybe not just physically). The Pl became very unforgiving for players who are not strong enough physically and LFC in particular needs players who can run defenders, or at least draw fouls or keep the balls until other joins from the back - like Sterling does pretty well. I am not convinced Markovich can do that. I hope for him and for us that I am wrong but I am not sure the PL is the ideal European league for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brilliant from dezyboy2. Ed how can you say the coaching is better at benfica than liverpool can you back that up with some facts. Sterling hasn't turned out too bad we have him since he was 15!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - so one player is doing ok and that means the coaching must be great? Just shows why crap coaches get away with being so useless for years in this country with this kind of attitude. Benfica bring through numerous players and improve their play then sell them for a profit. We very rarely have players improve while with us, the fact that you can point to only one says it all. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't true.}

LFCDAMO, Sterling was an exception. The kid would have made it at any club in the world because of his sheer talent, the coaches cannot really take credit for the way Sterling has turned out. Just look at the likes of Teixiera, ilori and Suso who would have done well to stay at their former clubs and improve as players than parking their backsides on the LFC bench or going out on pointless loans. The academy at LFC is in shambles, even with all the talent. There is no direction and the club does not know what to do with all the young players other than arranging pointless loans for them.

Agree0 Disagree1

For the record I was meant to ask ed001 if Sterling would get more attention from coaches at LFC the other players as he's the shining light

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sometimes he will, he certainly got a lot of extra attention when they were working with him to improve his tactical discipline, during the period when he was being asked to play full back and wing back in the stiffs. But that is as much about him wanting to work at his game, his willingness to make the effort to take his game to the next level, as it was about him being singled out because of his ability.}

05 Dec 2014 08:20:51
I love the comments on how players that aren't physically tough struggle in the PL, when the best players in the league at the moment include Aguero and Hazard. The best players adapt.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Aguero is one of the most physically tough players there is, in terms of the way he plays, it is all about physicality and strength added to power. That is why he is so good in England. Don't confuse his injuries with a lack of toughness, they are due to him being explosive.}

Aguero is a faster, better, and slimmer tevez. he is really really strong imo. he is small yes, bt very strong.

Agree1 Disagree0

Aguero is basically a carbon-copy of Romario.

They're so simillar, shift a defender, find a half-yard of space, then BANG! Right in the corner.

I love that sh*t!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hazard is also a strong guy. Small but strong, not one you can esily push and take the ball from without a foul.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hazard as had to beef up his game physically since he came to the PL because at Lille, he was knowm to be a feather on the field and he has improved on that right. To the poster who thinks Aguero is lightweight, You ust have never seen him play and I suggest you go watch him play because he is what I would call "Pocket Hercules". Short, stocky, explosive and as strong as an ox. A mini Romario as someone already said.

i am reading about the ground, i have a question are there plans to refurburch the kop in the furure or even make it bigger?
Malta

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No. There are the first two phases which will redevelop the ground to 58k or so. Phase 1 will be underway soon - Phase 2 is perhaps something that will be handed forward to future owners. Financially it will not be viable to make the ground larger than currently planned in the short or even medium term due to the impact on and cost of the infrastructure.}

04 Dec 2014 18:55:49
Looks good tho doesn't it. Anyone who has experienced Anfield in different sections of the ground will tell you the main stand is way behind the times, Expecially the awful view behind the pillars and sitting on the old wooden seats!
IMO Anfield lower is the worst though, it's almost unwatchable neer the back,,, when the crowd naturally stands up for a corner for example, you can't even see the goal infront of the kop!
So I'm Glad to see the improvements are coming

Since I last posted we have won twice.
Should I never grace this site with my presence again??
That should be poll of the day. .
Eds, you guys and gals don't get a say in this because you have bourne witness to me chatting rubbish for years.
There is an inherent bias that is unfair:)

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Maybe just retire that screen name Johnny?

Agree2 Disagree0

Can you start posting on the Man Utd, Chelsea, City & Arsenal pages then ?

Agree11 Disagree0

Ha ha. Will do Kobi.

Agree0 Disagree0

Phooey.
My screen name relates to the year that I fell in love with football.
John Barnes was unplayable in this year and I was lucky enough to go to Anfield and meet the team as they were preparing for the Coventry City away game having already won the title.
They won the game the next day 6-0.
I met John Barnes, Beardsley, Whelan, Rush and the new signing Ronnie Rosenthal and had my picture taken with everyone.
The picture of me and John Barnes my idol is funny.
I was shaking like a leaf!
In awe.
I told all the players or me ma did, that I had a cup final to play in the next day at the same time they were playing Coventry and they all wished me good luck.
We won 1-0.
I scored the winner with a screamer from about 30 yds (I was 13 so my memory might be fading!).
The best weekend of my life.
*Disclaimer*
Obviously my wedding day and the birth of my children also rank quite high.
I will not change this name Phooey, for all the tea in China.
I understand that it is a bit of a crap moniker but it means a lot to me.
As do Liverpool.
It would be interesting to see "The year they fell in love with football and Liverpool" posts from other posters please.
Thanks

1964 was when I first became aware of football but it wasn't til about 1968 that I fell in love with it when I first went to a match at Anfield. My Dad was really a blue but humoured my allegence to Liverpool. Many games followed including the brilliant FA Cup Final beating Newcastle and the 78 Euroean Cup final at Wembly. I was right in line with Dalglish scoring the winner. So I've seen a few generations of players and many wonderful talents. Souness was one of greatest players but worst managers. Kenny will always be the King, and Robbie always 'God', but Stevies up there with them. Optimism always.

Edd001 what have you made of alexis sanchez this season mate? He's been a big signing for arsenal this season who have been lacklustre, not as near bad as us but he's getting them results.
Edd002 when I get on the page, it's the usual with you. Great editor on the sight.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I love watching Sanchez play, not just because of his ability but because of his workrate and desire. I just wish we had got him. He is the closest thing to Suarez, such a shame he didn't want to join us. Still, not sure Arsenal was the best choice instead! I wonder where they would be this season without him??}

How close to the top do you think we would be had we signed him? I believe his work rate and tenacity up front would have set the tempo for our play much like last season and we would not have been subjected to the laboured dross of the past couple of months! On a positive note I ditched this seasons shirt following the palace game and reverted to wearing last seasons for the past 3 games. Unbeaten, onwards and upwards.

Cheers

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - impossible to say for sure, but it is hard to see how we wouldn't be in the top 4 considering just how bad everyone other than City and Chelsea are this season.}

04 Dec 2014 08:46:50
Ed01, couldn't agree more mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we had gotten Sanchez, 3rd place finish was a given for us. We would probably be at least 5-6 points better off as there is now way he would have squandered the chances that cost us points against Hull and Everton, plus his pace factor would have been an added bonus. Lambert and Sanchez upfront with Sterling at the tip of the diamond would have been brilliant.

Agree2 Disagree0

04 Dec 2014 11:34:31
Maybe we need to support the players we have you could say in any era if we had have signed a certain player we might have been more successful like if Roy had have sorted his defence out in 96-97 season we would have won the league .if houllier had have used his French influence with more intelligence we could have got Henry instead of a host of French flops and in this case Brendan is rumoured to have offered more than arsenal what can you do if a player decides to go to another you are all stalkers lol.

Agree2 Disagree1

Sanchez is the one that got away.

Sanchez is a good player but suarez is
from a different level,i've seen him at udinese and barca before.arsenal is 3 points ahead of us.if we had sturridge fit we would be ahead of arsenal.
Sturridge is who are missing Balotelli will be a different player with daniel around him.
