I just found this little nugget on the LFC website :

Liverpool head to Fulham on Monday knowing a win would equal a club record of away successes.

In all competitions it is six victories in succession away from home - a win at Craven Cottage will equal the club record of seven set between December 1981 - February 1982 and again in January - March 1988.

That ought to shut people up for a while .

1977

It's another european week, and although Liverpool are playing in a european week, the last time I looked, Liverpool arn't playing in a european tournament....again!

See, your post didn't "shut people up for a while"...oh 7th last year and 7th this..now that's what I call progress..less 100m!

Too easy...next!

I take it you are not an LFC fan then ... ha ha .

A good win against Fulham would show the away form of 2 of the greatest LFC teams , it is a good moment and we look forward to the rest of the season .

Your problem is 'you cannot see the woods for the trees'

LFC will do very well this year and much better next year .

1977

The original post is directed towards LFC fans , not the no-marks coveting footabll clubs they don't support .

mind your own business - your an easy target on this site .

1977

"mind your own business - your an easy target on this site" .

1977

Poor effort.

Break any record you want, you are 7th and will remain 7th after spending 100m...that's seeing the "woods from the trees"

As I said, too easy, next!

All you are doing is taking a specific post out of context , misqouting and acting like a juvenile .

The truth will be clearer for you in time .

If you realise that people are posting on behalf of their own football clubs on a designated club site , you might see that not every post is an attempt to 'try' and out do opposing fans .

You are boring now .

1977

It will be 4th and we will win a cup. U will finish 3rd and win nothing. Who is on the up and who is in decline?

Why dont we leaving the talking for the football and lets see where we come at the end of the season, right now we dont know if we will finish 7th or top 4 but as long as we keep improving every game we got a great chance. I say stop all this predicting and just wait and see.RedTurk

I doubt we will remain 7th.
We win today and we go 2 points behind Chelsea, who next week have Man City i think, whereas we've faced the top teams and played some of the best football in the league.
Arguably we should of won every match we've played bar Spurs.

KT!
P.S Try to leave a name for person identification, thanks.

'As I said, too easy, next!'

If it's too easy why don't you sign your post and name the club you support so we can start some proper banter? Or are you so embarrassed by your club that you would rather keep that quiet as you cannot defend them?

JRG

If we were to "break any record we want" with regards to the away win streak, then we wouldn't be 7th any more, we'd be 5th (i think) and equal points with 4th, and undefeated in quite some time. Not too bad a start for a team that generally performs better after xmas.

Rugby Parker.

Well actual John henry's spending is actual 32m of his own money the rest was profit from sales off players

Oi plastic chair, hush little man and go back to the team you support, feel the bitterness coming from you so gotta be a sad chelsea supporter shame feel for you sniff sniff, looks like you going backwards and with how much less? Grow a pair boy and post your name...
Mr.Jones

This guy is a mank, boring one nil manc, we will finish ahead of them shower, city smashed them up, we smashed city up, city will put them out of the cup n basle(fawlty) will f*** them out of europe aswell,

HOME TIE
ok we got a home tie but does anyone think we are getting the head worked on us? southend/oldham i know where playing well but two opponents, are we playing them both together or one after the other or what? bob paisleys skids

Are you being serious? if you are then it means we have to wait until southend and oldham play each other and we will play the winner..

Tom.

Hook, line and sinker ! Watch 'em bite....
ND

He isn't being serious, I don't think. I think he is making fun of all the people who say we are always being s**t on by the people in charge and giving us the hard games. Just a joke really.

b**stard99

It's tag football- one of them at a time.
We've had it if they do the WWF thing and both come onto the pitch together though...

ND AND B**STARD99
ha ha, it just goes to show what sort of brain dead slugs some of our fans are it amazes me, and at times makes me mad these same dead beats are the first to slag everyone off without actually reading a post properly keep on keeping on redmen, bob paisleys skids

Fulham 1 Liverpool 3 that's my prediction.
We should let kk pick the team he thinks would do the job for us and enjoy the game.

abbs

Yer, can we agree on that lads? No interfering with kennys selection process will ya! ;0)

Myk

Oh, ok. But I used to enjoy knocking Kenny's arm when he was writing the team down and he'd end up with scribble all over the team sheet. Another time, Kenny and I got drunk on Creme de Menthe the night before a game and I persuaded him to play Ngog, as a joke. I wasn't laughing the day after. So, you are right; best not to interfere.

Don't know about that, I would love to sneak into the Kenny's office and change all his plans for the weekend.

Really i dont care who turns up on the field, what i care about is if we get the 3 points or not, then after i analyse if kenny has made tactical mistakes. Isn't that the best way to judge a manager? anyway i think and i hope kenny does well and stays in his job, its been nice having him there. RedTurk

Hey MYK

Do you really think Kenny reads these posts?

Do you then think he takes on suggestions as to who to play and how to play if he does he must be very confused?

As for who to buy in the transfer window Kenny must be having nightmares if he reads the long list who we are connected with and who we should buy?

Our team needs a Spearing or a Lucas on the pitch. We know that we have very good fullbacks attackivly and therefore we tend to play overload wing play with Enrique and Johnson overtaking the wingers; to do this we need one of the midfeilders to stay back so we are not caught out in a counter attack if the move breaks down.

One CM is going to have to take responsibility for this and I doubt it something Hendo, Adam or Shelvey will take in their stride in the same way as Lucas did so well but Spearing will love this role that allows him to run round putting out fires.
-McMenemy

I could see us playing 3 in the middle a litle more often so there is not quite so much pressure on the 'lucas' role (in this case, spearing) as they would have say, Hendo and Adam alongside them so the defensive burden of 2cms would be split between 3. That said however, i do think Jay Spearing has the ability to more than hold his own in a 2 man midfield and the fans should give him there full support.
Whether you rated him to start with or not, Lucas has become a vital player and will be missed, Jay spearing will have big boots to fill but with the kop behind him I'm sure he will do the shirt proud. I certainly don't think playing a defender in midfield is the answer.

davethebutcher

If Spearing plays then Hendo will have to play RM again or AM behind Suarez then Carroll won't play. Same old prob again. I think because of Lucas we a bit obsessed with this DM position.

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Maxi Hendo Adam Downing/Bell
Suarez Carroll

That's our best current team imo

So many names have be mentioned on here but if we sign then, they won't play in front of our great runner Dirk Kuyt. He plays on the right and up front. The only player not to score or create one goal this season. Gives the ball away 30-40 times a match FACT!! Can't control a ball, is very, very, very slow. Doesn't cross a ball and can't beat anyone. But that doesn't matter, as all the fans love him because he works hard haha. He is the only player in the world, when you're asked to describe him; all they say is her works hard. He does but give me a player who doesn't give the ball to the opposition every forward pass and can trap the ball. People who want him in the team are, to be frank, idiots, why don't you watch him against Fulham and count how many times he gives the ball away, why does no one see this.

Every team needs a work horse who can play for 90 minutes - it slowly wears defenders down. Ray Houghton is another example and I can think of plenty more.

I think we are too kind tbh need to be more ruthless and just tell him to leave

Redturk? Is that you?

Myk

And I think you are completely wrong with this nonsense. We need Kuyt to play because he gives us something the others don't. Maybe it is simply honest, uncomplaining hard work both going forward and tracking back. It's not his fault he's always been played in positions that were not his original striking role. Can't you think of something else to whine about or are you going to try and make him the next Lucas now that he's been promoted from scapegoat to folk hero. Get off Kuyt's back.
ND

Oh no. Another freaking scapegoat now that Henderson and Adam are actually performing? Give it a rest!

b**stard99

And just to add to that he has consistently scored at least 12 goals a season. Great record for a right midfielder who gives the ball away 30-40 times.

b**stard99

Bit harsh, but he has a point. And no looking for a scape goat, I have never rated Kuyt and no a lot of other supporters who don't either.

Sorry mr myk, what was the point of trying to bring me into this? i sign my posts mate, dont need to hide under the pillow.RedTurk

04 Dec 2011 21:28:49
Eds if you had to choose some signings based on what we have been linked with and also who are realistic who would you want to see? {Ed001's Note - I don't really see any need to do much in January, I would be happy to just add one forward, I would prefer to wait a bit before I say who I would like. The one I would choose I am waiting on some info about, it should tell me who feasible a signing he is for us and if he is feasible it would be him.}

I'm guessing that player your talking about is higuain at a guess? I know that you rate him highly.

Danny {Ed001's Note - no, I don't believe he is realistic, but the lad does play in Spain.}

Llorente or Munian would be nice.
Maybe just a tad unrealistic though.

KT!

Ed001 your such a tease lol

Square tomato

I think its roberto soldado of valencia. Am i right ed.

Abhi {Ed001's Note - KT was closest.}

Iker muniain the ED001 ;)

Welsh Red {Ed001's Note - maybe.}

If it is llorente (which I do doubt) he would cost heaps of money and wouldn't you say he is a similar kind of player to carroll. Would not be gOod for development or confidence.

Iker munian would cost loads but is a future star I think the striker is on who isnt old but Is in the poacher role? Am I close Ed or have I gone down the wrong path?

The Southern Red {Ed001's Note - you have not gone down the wrong path, Llorente is definitely not the one.}

Wrong path as in team or wrong path as in position? I WILL FIND OUT WHO YOU MEAN! :)

b**stard99 {Ed001's Note - you misread, he has not gone down the wrong path....}

I would be over the moon with two attacking players but still would be very happy if KK just brought in one for now

04 Dec 2011 20:50:46
Ed do you believe a big sum of money piles pressure on players? Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson were all extremely dear. Do you think that it is better to go for players who cost less than 10million because it is less of a gamble and more of a value-for-money thing. Like Charlie Adam and Jose Enrique who have been absolutely sublime this season?

b**tard99 {Ed001's Note - I don't think it matters about the price, though it does put pressure on a player, you have to just buy players based on their abilities.}

Personally I wish that prices wouldn't be made available to the public or media because its such a huge albatross around the neck of the player. It can crush some careers.

Imagine how different things might be if nobody knew Carrolls price?

Rewflo

I dont think so mate i think Henderson di]one a great job being played out of postion and the ball he done for bellamy against chelsea in the Carling cup was sublime he has showed some class and if you watch the melwood skill school on youtube he has got class and youll see why we paid so much for him

jayblair89

Within 2-3 years Henderson will be a much better player and by then Im sure we will have young kids stepping up into the first 11. The future and bright and it is always Reds!

04 Dec 2011 20:34:39
My choice for replacing Lucas is already sitting there waiting to get back into the team. Jamie Carra excelled in the position at the start of his career with Liverpool and England under 21,s. Just hope he still has the legs.

Carra to play in place of Lucas , are you sure ? .

....he obviously doesn't have the legs - what is wrong with Spearing i've never seen him have a bad game, Ive seen him make mistakes but they were all down to inexperiance give the lad a chance -McMenemy

Spearing makes too many mistakes. He's a good squad player...that's it.

DaveyBootle

He's a good squad player...that's it....
What's the point of having squad players if we don't use them, Spearing will do a good job if given the chance.

Im certain that Spearing will step up, this is his chance to show people what he's capable of. It's not fair to compare him and Lucas to be honest but hey at least they both love the club and thats a great thing! YNWA

Play Martin Kelly for Lucas he used to play as a midfielder and has the defensive head and tackling skills.

04 Dec 2011 20:12:00
Hello Eds
any chance for Cissokho coming to LFC? I know we've got Enrique and he's been great but there is no world class back up in case of injury. I know this subject was red hot in the summer but I feel LFC needs a good replacement for Enrique just in case and I don't see any now.
Great site, greetings from Poland. {Ed001's Note - what is wrong with Robinson for back up? He is certainly good enough for that, better than most left backs in the top flight in my opinion.}

Agree with Ed here, Robinson has proved that he is a very good left back everytime he's played for the 1st team.

KT!

Johnson is also a class left back , so full back not a problem

No clubs have have world-class backups for Full-backs; they have back-up level players

All I can say is that jack robinson can keep up with the pace of theo walcott. He was superb last season when he played against the gunners.

Danny

Hey chaps, just found this little nugget whilst crusing through the Chelsea pages. Absolutely hilarious. These fans are everywhere!!

Now i have posted a tirade on their page, which i hope ED002 sees it in him to put up. I'm sorry ED002 i just couldn't resist.

I've had 6 years of listening to their tripe whilst at the same time licking our wounds consistently. It's time for some payback. And yes you bet. Let's kick 'em when they're down :) With the fortunes of both clubs over recent years i have earned the right! :)

Bob the Red {Ed001's Note - it's ok Bob, I just happened to edit their pages and post it...}

So that big long tirade that you posted on the Chelsea page was 6 years of jealousy and envy built up? You lot really are an embarrassment. Absolute pathetic. "Kick em when their down" haha. Is your life really that bad that in order to get back at a better team, you post a load of rubbish on their banter page and laugh over it? All i can say guys is enjoy the Europa League or whatever its called because even now when Chelsea are at the worst we've been in 10 years, we are still above you. You have no chance of catching City, United are a bigger and more successful club and you wont catch them. Spurs are alot better than you and Arsenal are too good for you. Now i'm gonna post a couple more ridiculous comments that some of you have put, and then post it on the Chelsea page for everyone to see, least then they will understand what we're dealing with .

But we're getting better, unlike Chelsea who are slowly falling.
You think AVB can compete with Kenny, fergie and Wenger?
He's way out of his depth atm, with an ageing squad and a owner who sacks people who finish second.

KT!
P.S don't be afraid to leave your name, it helps us identify the morons.

In 2 games time we will be above you while you get your ass handed to you by city, you have been beaten by teams who are better than you such as manu arsenal and us, expect man city to do the same, chelsea are awful

United more sucessful?? by 1 more league championship maybe - but that still doesnt account for all the other titles -start counting(and a good place to start would be chamions league titles, let me help you out here LFC 5 Utd 3) and then come back and apologise if you have the guts to even post on here again after that you proper wazzok

Does anybody else find it strange that for years a lot of people have slated Lucas but now he's injured there is a mass cry for Kenny to buy a replacement in January.

But instead or learning from their mistakes of hammering new players they still criticize Downing, Henderson and Carroll on a weekly basis, some new players need time try and cut them some slack.
I wouldn't be surprised if either Spearing or Henderson stepped up and proved a lot of doubters wrong.

always a red

I agree with you but these players were brought in with the expectation that they will adapt quickly, thats the whole point of going british and not buying better quality abroad. To be honest we can't afford time right now, we really need to be getting into the top 4 so i hope they start performing otherwise what was the worth in buying over valued british players.RedTurk

Most fans don't have the patience to wait, but, when the player does come good they jump on the bandwagon.

KT!

Totally agree with you we do need to be getting back in the top 4, but i trust Kenny's judgement hell i trust it better than my own. Maybe that is blind faith but i'm more than happy knowing the manager has the clubs best interests at heart and would never buy a player he didn't think was worthy to wear the shirt.

always a red

Carroll and Henderson are young talent and will improve. Downing was bought as the finished article.

Who told you this redturk?

I dont who im replying to here cos u didnt sign ur post mate, but anyway who told me what lol? if its about the comment i made about why we bought british, comolli told me aswell as the rest of the world.RedTurk

Rumour page picking up in regards to Hoilett and Coutinho. Two players that are young and will add much needed flair and depth. I say snap them up. You may remember my little scout report on Junior Hoilett. Still think Blackburn's hand could be forced in Jan. Coutinho is a throwback player. Little touches, opens stubborn defenses, in the djalminha/Leonardo mould. Pick him up.

04 Dec 2011 19:52:01
What is with peoples obsession with naming a defender to play in midfield, completing overlooking Jay Spearing?

I've seen Kelly, Agger, Coates and Aurelio (wherever he is) named so far. Give Jay a chance, I think he's more than capable

Stu.

The first few mentioned don't make mistakes.

DaveyBootle

But they clearly do Davey, i could highlight mistakes in every game for every player, heck even Lionel Messi makes plenty of mistakes in a game.

KT!

If r midfield and strikers are scoring it shouldnt matter whos dm,if the rest of the team r playing well we could put douglas bader as dm and still win,

Coates has made two bad mistakes, got away with one though, but kept his head. This is why, at the mo.., he is 4th choice. Come next year with a tad more experience he may make it to the starting line up!

Just heard that there will probably be an Athens style fiasco for semi-final tickets at home against Citeh.
Any season ticket holder that didn't sign up for the cup ticket scheme will have the same chance as club member.
Now 4 of us sit in different parts of the ground for home games so on European nights and cup games we get our tickets together and have done for years.
Therefore cos we haven't had a home game in the cup or had tickets for the 3 away games we have the same chance of a ticket as someone who has paid £10 for the season when we have paid £750, I thought Rick Parry had left the club.
Why does our club always sh1t on their fans.
Priority should always go to fans that go to the most games then go down in order. Asking fans to invest £750 before a ball has been kicked and then pass them over for an investment of £10 is utterly scandalous.
Has anyone got contact details for John Henry or Ian Ayre so we can get our feelings across.
Sent tweets to him and only get as far as a manager in the ticket office. I hope a lot of you feel the same so we can get this sorted before they go on sale.
By the way the 4 of us also have season tickets for our kids too so we all spend £1500 before a ball is kick. Sorry for the long post but would really like some feedback
Finisher

If you're fortunate enough to be able to go to most home games surely it's only fair to give the less fortunate an opportunity to watch their team play.

Tom.

What arrogance , there are many lifelong supporters who cannot either afford a season ticket or are so far down the list ( like myself 9 years waiting and still 8000+ on the list) they cannot get to see their beloved team. To suggest any tickets should always be allocated to the well off or those who are fortunate enough to have a season ticket and sod the rest of us , is to put it very mildly an insult to us mere paupers who must learn to accept scraps thrown by the fortunate few.

MC.

Agreed MC.

I only ever get to see pre season friendlies or dead end european ties (such as FC Haka a few years ago when we had already cruised the first leg) In addition to this, WHEN i eventuallly get to see a game I have to take 2 trains and a bus and spend 2 hours travelling there and 2 hours back. That's just me,
there are plenty of international fans who never get to see them. People should be a little more grateful for the fortunate position they are in regarding tickets.

Rewflo

Be fair mate , me and my son do a 600 mile round trip at a cost of £200 plus (ticket and fuel) we can only afford to go to 7 or 8 games a season . but we dont get to go to the big games because of the loyalty scheme . so why shouldnt we have a chance to see the semi aswell . and like the previous poster said your fortunate to be able to see the reds every game . id swap that for a semi final ticket any day of the week

true red

Tom

Surely season ticket holders should get priority. We've got about 26000 season ticket holders so club members should be entered into ballot for the other 18000 tickets (less away allocation), so they have their chance to see their team
Finisher

Finisher , maybe you should consider your own corporate box given your elitist approach to who deserves to be entitled to a match ticket . At least then you may be forgiven for looking down your nose at supporters who pay to watch on a game by game basis .

MC

MC, Rewflo and True Red

Sorry if you feel I'm being arrogant but I waited over 20 years to get a season ticket I wouldn't class my self as well off.
Sorry that I have a job, work 60 hours a week and once my family duties are done, I go without things so that I can afford to go the match.
We very rarely sell out for the Europa and carling cup games so you CAN get tickets for them and then you too can go on the loyalty scheme.
Like everything in life you should only get back what you put in, so sorry for my arrogance.
Finisher

Ever thought their the arrogant ones Finisher?,assuming were well off.i go without and in severe debt for my season ticket, cos i love club.Amd waited my turn for ticket.I laugh at their all knowing(in some cases,Putting down posts)And lotve regular posters dont even go!Entitled to opinion, but often correct those who were actually at game!!

Does anybody know if the Stanley Park venue fallen through ?

I believe there is a bit of brinksmanship going on between the council and the club. RED LENIN

Council should let LFC get on with it.Look at the money club brings into the City

I doubt it brings in as much to the city as you think. Non-local fans don't tend to hang around. They are either part of package groups and have to get their coach/aircraft on time, or drove and heasd straight for the motorway. {Ed001's Note - actually it brings in huge sums for the city.}

Would Boudebouz / Gaston Ramirez make a difference to our best 11?? We need players with a gauranteed end product otherwise there is no point in paying wages / diluting the quality of the squad. Has anyone seen alot of either of these players to have a considered opinion and so can shed some light on how good they actually are compared to say Downing / Kuyt?

Well if you look at how downing and kuyt are performing, surely they are better players ramirez and boudebouz. RedTurk

Pace, skill, flair, can beat a man... Can it be a bad thing?

Thanks to the post answering my question about spearing and we are a quality side with him in it. He just seems to do the basics really well and he as a really good strike on him. And i know a lot of those games have been with lucas in the side.

As i said as much as we will miss Lucas i still believe we have a great squad.

Hi eds, do you not see Anelka as a better option to Kuyt, he scores goals and is able to keep the ball better then Kuyt? I would personally prefer him to Kuyt any day of the week
Kabir {Ed002's Note - I see Hulk a better option again, and Higuain. But they won't be moving to Liverpool in January either.}

I would prefer Kuyt any day....Kuyt rarely goes mising in a game and usually gives 7/10 in most games.....

Good that Anelka is, he often goes missing in games....Plus he is looking for final payday.

LiverBird

Honestly, I would have sold Kuyt last window. We will not win the league with him and he is too slow and unskillful for pass and move. Love the guy, but time we won the league.

04 Dec 2011 15:58:13
coates could be used as DM. he is good takeler and he is quick. and good wiz the ball

We could just through 3at CB
523
johnson, carra, skrtel, agger, enrique
henderson, adam
kuyt, bellamy
suarez

and with 3 cb we can push every midfielder and attacker forwards in offence

Coates is not quick!

Guys, why are you so worried for our Dm position. I've seen almost all of our cbs for DM positions post here. But I firmly believe that Kenny would certainly come up with the best option. And that can be any one or any thing. Believe in Kenny. Missing Lucas, but I know, we'd do great. :)

Looking at the dates for the 3rd round of the FA cup, we couldn't have asked for much more. On the 3rd January, we have Man City away in the league. We then have Southend/Oldham on 7th/8th, and Man City again for the 1st leg of the Carling Cup semi final on the 11th January. Man City will obviously have us on the 3rd, Man United on the 7th/8th, and then us again on the 11th, 3 difficult, tiring games within 8 days. This could well work in our favour.

Yes but they have a rather large squad so i would expect them to cope fairly well.
huddz red

Ed,

ManC will be losing some players in the African Nations Cup which starts on 21st Jan. Fifa rules state that players need to be with the squad 15 days before a tournament.

E, is this true?.....If yes probably ManC's bech strength will definitely be tested.....

LiverBird {Ed002's Note - It is true but it can be waived if the National side agree.}

Thats good news because while i exect wee jay can handle Silva or Toure, I think it would take someone of Lucas' experience and ability to keep them both quiet for an entire match.

Liverpool vs southend or oldham 3rd round fa cup

Real shame about united getting Citeh....so sad

Fergie is asking for the draw to be re-done, the brown envelope has now been delivered.

A draw that goes against United this must be a mistake :O

Someone earlier asked what the results were when Spearing has started for us. I've had a look and this is what I've found.

I've put in a few parameters:
1) Spearing has started
2) Dalglish was manager (or caretaker manager)
3) The match is against Premier League opposition.

I have not included Carling Cup matches against Exeter and Brighton, any Europa League matches from last season, or the Aston Villa match last season where he was substituted off after 11 mins.

CC - Chelsea - Away - W 0:2
CC - Stoke - Away - W 1:2
Prem - Tottenham - Home - L 0:2
Prem - Fulham - Away - W 2:5
Prem - Newcastle - Home - W 3:0
Prem - Birmingham - Home - W 5:0
Prem - Arsenal - Away - D 1:1
Prem - Man City - Home - W 3:0
Prem - West Brom - Away - L 2:1
Prem - Sunderland - Away - W 0:2
Prem - Everton - Home - D 2:2

So by my calculations; in the 11 games he's started, we've won 7, drawn 2 and lost 2, taking 17 points of a possible 27 in the league, and progressing past Stoke and Chelsea in the Carling Cup. I hope this helps.

Great post mate

RenegadeRed

By my calcs: average of 2.4 points per game with spearing compared to lfc general average of 1.77 points per game this season...interesting ?

tel 1949

How many of those games did Lucas NOT play in?

04 Dec 2011 12:49:18
Hi eds is it true gerrard will be back before christmas. Alot of rumours going around that he will be back in training soon. {Ed002's Note - I can only go by what Dalglish said - sooner rather than later.}

04 Dec 2011 12:29:24
agger for dm... just a thought

Agger & Skrtel for CD.

Hears a thought, would everyone stop suggesting using defenders as midfielders.

Agger for dm bang carra or coates in cd

Aggers so useful at the back though as he can play the ball out calmly and we can keep position whereas our other defenders tend to hoof upfield

The thing is I believe Agger could play DM but the simple fact is he is our best defender and should be used in his best position......plus how much confidence would it give hendo spearing shelvey etc if kenny decides to play a defender in midfield.lets leave him at the back

Square tomato

Can we just leave our best CB @ CB? I mean really our back 4 are playing really well together so why must we insist on trying to change it?

Personally I'd rather just keep playing midfielders as midfielders...whether or not they are specifically 'defensive' and just change the way we play slightly (all work a little harder to cover the work Lucas did) but if we did suffer further injuries I'd probably turn to Aurelio, positionally good, good passing...
My first shout is Henderson though till Gerrard is back.

Richards

We should leave our defenders to defend. It wasn't long ago we could have fielded an entire team if CMs! Let Spearing have his chance. He won't let us down.
ND

RICHARDS
thats a good shout that mate, i had forgot poor old aurilio he is/ was a midfield player at valencia, bob paisleys skids

HD
aurilio is originally a midfield player also he played midfield a couple of times for us,that said i do like spearing he is a proper terrier this could be the making of him bob paisleys skids

Common guys, Aurelio can't play more than 1 game without getting injured. Waste of wages.

Another weekend, another football legend sadly no longer with us.
I was just reading that Socrates, the ex-Brazil player, has passed away at only aged 57.
Man, that guy could play. He had a lovely, fluid, almost languid style.
That 1982 Brazil team was fantastic, just couldn't be bothered with the A,B,C of defending.
But their quick, quick, slow rhythm, under a scorching Spanish sun or in a humid evening, summed up Brazilian samba football.
And he was the conductor of the beat.
That's a sad loss.
The Real KB

I'll be getting my old Brazil shirt with Socrates name on the back for my 5 a side game tomorrow night

Unless King Kenny plays either Spearing or Henderson centrally why have them at the club? John Flannagan has been playing centrally in the reserves with Conor Coady, whom both would be able to do a job. I expect Spearing to get a run of games until at least January otherwise if he is not good enough in the coaches opinions then he may as well get transfered. Thus, I do not see a replacement for Lucas.

Evo YNWA

Exactly.
The Real KB

Henderson isn't a holding player and Flanagan is a meekly-framed right back, they surely cannot be considered back-up?

Martin

Meekly-framed? You watching too much rugby mate. Have you seen Flanno tackle?

Doesn't Hendo play DM for the U-21 England side?

Keith

No CM, Hendo can't tackle half as good as Lucas. Spearing is better but still not up to Lucas standard but few are.

Do we even really play with a designated DM? We play 4-4-2, Lucas just does not get fwd much and Adam doesn't get back as much. Play Hendo & Adam in CM. They must just both get fwd and cover for each other. We need to start scoring more goals, so could be a good move.

Nothing meek about flanno mate!

I agree there is nothing meek about flanno BUT he has been pushed around a bit by forwards in his last couple of games maybe he isnt quite ready for a midfield holding roll just yet, saying that he has NO shortage of bottle at all, bob paisleys skids

Good to see Kenny say Spearing will get the nod. Hopefully that means we won't throw needless money around in Jan. Jay will do just fine.

Ash

Jay had a great few games towards the end of last season, enough to earn a new contract,im sure he will do a quality job, for sure no
Jaydee YNWA

Give him a run. If he disappoints, sell him in Jan. Least he got a chance and can move on with his career then.

Jay is 23 now and Lucas is 25. Two years ago Lucas is pretty much where Jay is right now. I think give him 2 years and u can see the same raise as Lucas. Same goes to likes of carroll, henderson, coates, kelly etc whilst kelly and coates are real good now, they can become simply world class in 3-4 years. Some of the so called LFC fans couldn't see this big picture. When all the youngsters in the first team, reserves and academy are given enough time and let them mature we could save tons of millions in the future.

Abhi

If his fitness holds, what about Aurelio?

Keith

Thats a 100% right in theory
but thats also the reason we need a partner for suarez for the present

Are ye for real spearing should be used sparingly simply will nevercut it with the big boys we will need better

@ anon I bet 2 years ago you were saying Lucas would never be able to cut it with the big boys.

Kieran.

havnt posted in a while, liverpool will not replace lucas in January UNLESS Something drastic happens to steven gerrard and he is unable to play again, gerrard is still injured and will not return for a little while but we have adam and spearing for the cm kenny beleives that spearing is good enough now and personnally so do i, i think lucas getting injured is the brealthrough spearing needed he will rise to the challenge and we will have found a very exiting player

great job edds YNWA

Tylerliverpool

Gerrard should play holding mid now start the play like alonso and tackle like ruddock

Not a transfer rumour but wondered if the Eds know if Kelly has been looked at by Kenny as a DM.

I know he hs played there in the past but not at full squad level.

Not sure of the level of your insight but feel having him on the pitch could be productive for set peices. Big lad good in the air. Not slow and defensive minded.

Cheers
Big red Baz {Ed002's Note - KNow idea, sorry.}

04 Dec 2011 09:47:14
I see we seem to be speculating on who we need to buy to "replace Lucas now he is injured. Why don't we see how we fare with our midfield options before we write off our players.

One of the most refreshing changes that having Kenny back as a manager is his willingness to promote from the reserves. His hand was forced last season but he got really good performances from Flanagan, Kelly, Robinson, Spearing, Shelvey etc when needed.

He also has done the right thing in letting Shelvey get 1st team experience and recalling him now as cover.

No-one is saying that Lucas won't be missed because he will but how do you know that the players we have won't raise their game if they are not given the chance.

And if after 6 games it is plain we are suffering then we can enter transfer window.

Im more confident that Kenny can bring through the players in academy and reserve and into 1st team than any of the 3 previous managers.

However I will concede that maybe Rafa wasn't here to utilise them as he did a lot of development of youth set up but in past it always felt like he selected a youth player to make a point not because he thought they were good enough.

So rally behind Spearing, Shelvey, Henderson etc because this could be them developing into very good players.

D 2308

Henderson hopefully spearing and shelvey have alot to prove lucas was awesome we do need a replacment

They 'have a lot to prove' yeah? Well how do you suggest they go about proving themselves if they don't get games even when first teamers are injured? Spearing's 23 now it's time for a sustained run in the team. He'll prove he's good enough.

Shearing doesnt have anything to prove...hes a quality player who has shown tremendous loyalty to LFC and has waited patiently for his opportunity. It has now arrived and Im sure he will do brilliantly as he has done in the past, he is a great passer, tackler and has good vision for those killers passes we have missed in recent times.

He will do us proud.

Good luck Shearo, grab your chance with both hands !

tel 1949

Disagree Tel. Jay has lots to prove, he has never quite been good enough to be a regular and has been around for a while. But he needs a chance and a run of games.

04 Dec 2011 09:15:48
just some points to my fellow supporters

1, lucas shame, but didnt win any game single handed we are a team now spearing if dalglish does go with him in my opinion is more than capable i.e stoke chelsea etc players will also be that little bit careful not to leave him exposed, that with the 12th man im pretty confident we shall be fine.
2, bellamy for me should on current form start ahead of kuyt and downing, get in front rest him somepoint second half subs to replace AC, DK, SD, or MR.
3,gerrard, hmmm my personal view of his situation is kk is protecting him and just had a feeling that he would feature in the 2nd part of the season where you have late stages of cups and league finish.
Trust me gerrard is not done yet at liverpool, imagine a fresh fit stevie g playing alongside adam, maxi, bellers and ofcourse el pistilero who will benefit the most in my opinion. chelsea paid 50m pound for Torre but in my opinion if gerrard wasnt there he wouldve probably only achieved half of what he did.
kk said gerrard will be back "sooner rather than later",the way the teams playing and the buzz around the club can only be positive for everyone concerned.
3,Andy Carroll, poor touch, not much skill, for a big lad falls down easily i could go on but do you no what im not because i dont care,a) chelsea paid for him,b) were not playing to his strength and hes not yet adapted to the passing football,c) hes still young lots to learn bought a couple of habits with him which im sure kk will take care of, he was in good form when we bought him but injury made it even harder for a young man to come from newcastle to LIVERPOOL one of the biggest clubs in europe( ok THE biggest) at a time where we were in pretty bad shape, not to mention the price tag(bet he aint seen that many zeros in his life lol) it cant be easy. i get fustrated to the max sometimes with his display and take stick of family and friends but i always stick up for him you know why because he plays for LFC.
The boy will come good eventually, and why wouldnt he when he has the guidance of the king.
4,The americans, the way they conduct business, the way they interact with us supporters, the funds they have provided, the ambition they have etc, all i can say is take a bow John Henry and Tom Werner
i maybe wrong guys only the future will tell but i think we some cracking owners at our club who will take liverpool to the top in the very near future.

J Henry & T Werner = business
KK & clarke = football
you and i = support

now mix it altogether and what do you get?.......... thats right CHAMPIONS.

While your sentiments are in the right placed they are a bit too far stretched

Citeh can buy ready made off the shelf world class players hard to compete with that and become champions.

I cannot make excuses for Andy Carroll but I cannot help noticing since this Umbro deal and their big, clumpy boots that they provide like you say his touch has been poor etc, however when he had the Adidas F50's at Newcastle (a much, much lighter boot) he scored goal regularly for Newcastle and looked to be quicker across the ground, better in the air and generally and most importantly, more comfortable when he was playing football. Change your boots Andy..

LG.

This isnt Jimmy Grimble

Yeah mate it's Andy Carroll and in reality, it would make a difference. You smackhead.

LG.

Hi jack, nice to hear from you, hows your new car ?

Mourning Eds, Do you think it is time for us to be pushing the following youngsters for a bit of 1st team football like sub appearances, warming the bench for the experience etc ...

Coady, Silva, Sterling, Morgan and Suso

BigD {Ed002's Note - Perhaps one or two will get such an opportunity - some will go on loan and some simply are too youg.}

For me Coady will get a game this season for sure. And maybe Morgan, Stearling still a touch young. All the best.

KNEE JERK

04 Dec 2011 05:01:52
Ed if Valencia we able to drop outta the champions league by January do you think we could get Roberto soldado or at least have a good chance of getting him? {Ed002's Note - Certainly Liverpool have shown some interest in Soldado who is having a good season but his availability in January is by no means certain. If Valencia progress in the Champions League he may wish to see the season out. At about 25M euro he would not be cheap.}

Now a quiz for you.

Who are the best attacking duo?

38m Stuart Dowling and Jordan Henderson, an attacking winger and midfielder or

26.5m Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, full-backs, central defenders and occassional midfielder?

Clue?

One duo has one goal and no assists in the prem this year, the other duo has 2 goals and 2 assists.

Struggling?

Tie breaker...the least productive attacking duo play with a 35m useless Geordie!

Answer is: Crystal Palace? Oh no wait, that's the answer as to who beat those world beating attacking duo last week!
A! :o)

Has Sir Alex returned to this page. Because it sounds like him.

All them players r like u a wrongin

Wow, 2 goals and 2 assists. Lethal. Deadly. We live in fear

cozinoz

Why are you trying to imply Henderson is not a good Player, he's very young and has raw talent as seen when he takes the captency for England u21s. He just needs some game time to build up his confidence, look at him when he plays for england, his confidence is high and it improves his game, more confidence to take on a man or shoot, as of this moment theres some really big personalities in the team so with him being so young he tries to keep them happy. Henderson is one for the future, I can remember a young Steven gerrard crying in one match because he was making mistakes and the crown was getting on his back, just give him time!

I hate it when schools have holidays, the children have nothing to do

Just watched Mario balotellis shoulder goal.
Have to say this is why I love football.
Is he an idiot? Yes
Is he arrogant? yes
But some of footballs greatest moments have come from players doing the most unbelievable or stupid things.
If I said Diego maradonna everyone remembers the hand of god and that wonder goal.
If I said zidanne. Everyone remembers the goal in the champions league final and the headbutt.
If I said marco van bastern everyone remembers his wonder goal from an impossible angle.
Henrys backheal goal.
Also remember that goalie doing a scorpion kick thing rather than just catching it? Cant remember his name but remember the save.
If we watched match of the day and all the goals were penalties nobody would watch again.
I'm glad he is not at Liverpool but I love a bit of showboating it's what makes the game worth watching.

MIKEY

What! I wud love it if he was at liverpool.
Maybe the best young striker in the world!

He is a bad liability he would not be good for Liverpool.

MIKEY

Mickey why is he a liability?

He scores goals - isn't that what strikers do?

Not all strikers are saints?

Is it not true that united's two star strikers (Rooney and the French lad) are similar to this young man in some footballing and non footballing ways?

Saints no longer play Football

KK wud be able to handle him.

Mario balotellis is a GGGeeeeeeenie

Just been told Liverpool are playing during the week of a european game week, ironically against Fulham, a team actually playing in a european competition. That is really really lovely, and it's so nice to look back at the old days.

Just for this week, for all scousers, lets pretend Craven Cottage is a Spanish or German ground...how about we refer to Fulham's ground as Nou Cottage or the Allianz Cottage or Craven Bernabeu so that you think you are actually playing in a european competition...ahh bless!

Don't get it. Is it meant to be banter?

MIKEY

Who told you? Don't believe everything people tell you.
And your European names for Fulham's ground need a lot of work.

What a stupid & unfunny idea.
