There are no Negative or Plastic Liverpool fans. Some wouldn't want excuses to cover their failure and open up when required.
Such bunch have always been under scrutiny from years in every field. let alone football.

Agree4 Disagree2

If you are a fan who buys official merchandise, goes to games, watches in the pub or at just at home you are entitled to have an opinion on how the team is going.

Just because you are fed up with the shocking displays doesn't mean you won't be supporting the next game or the game after etc.

Football is a game of opinions.

FAO sizemick Mary mungo and midge and Eds:

I will have the Lucky pants revived, reinstated and reinvigorated for tomorrow's game.

In return I would like the Eds to make tomorrow an official positivity day. The challenge is no matter how bad we play or how bad the result is, you can only post positives.

Then Sunday you can vent your spleen.

(Big gamble on the lucky pants)

Two issues I want to discuss. I am going to be critical of the manager, but I would appreciate if folks replied in a civil manner.

1. BR has in the past day or so, pretty much told the media bluntly that Balotelli is a "calculated risk" and a "gamble". What I gather from his interview on Balotelli is that he didn't want Balotelli and he is now making it clear, through the media. I personally think this is really poor from the manager, and I cannot see how this will help at all. Keep in mind that Balotelli is a volatile character, and the ambivalence supporters have shown towards Balotelli. How is this going to help? I think this sort of thing is detrimental.

2. BR has now used the "transition" excuse, and molly-coddled it with the injuries excuse, when really, only Sturridge is the only senior first team player missing though injury. Did he think about saying that? What will the owners be thinking (keep in mind that promises have been made to the owners that we will win the league this season). Again, I think he has handled that quite poorly.

Thoughts on both points please.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

1) How do you solve a problem like Mari-o?
Somehow Mario needs to get his mojo back. Sometimes geniuses motivate themselves by getting angry. I'm sure Suarez's form last season was in part a reaction to all the negative press he got from the media. Perhaps it's a bit of psychology?
2) I happen to agree with the transition excuse and injuries to Sturridge AND CAN have certainly taken a toll.
I don't think it's time to panic. We can turn this season around.

Agree5 Disagree2

Allen is a very undervalued part of our squad, either Flanno or, yes, Johnson may well start ahead of Manquillo when fit, Emre Can will not be short of games either although I guess he's not as experienced

Agree2 Disagree2

Johnson, Allen, Can and Sakho are also injured. That's another 4 senior first teamers. Plus Suso, although he hasn't really been considered. So not just Sturridge out. Skrtel has also missed games. Injuries I reckon have been disruptive but are not the primary issue, although they have compounded it. I honestly can't put my finger on it. The thing that worries me is that with all these games there is no time to rectify things on the training ground

Agree0 Disagree2

I wonder if John Henry and his pals at F.S.G see this as a 'transitional' season, after sanctioning over £100m worth of spending this summer?

Agree9 Disagree2

I've not seen his press conference so I don't know what was said or what context it was said in, so I'll reply based on your summary.
1. Suggesting BR didn't want him based on these comments is your interpretation of his words. Someone else may see it as a tactic to gee Mario up a bit? It's not uncommon for managers to use such tactics. I don't have a problem with what he said if it has this effect.
2. At this moment in time, Sturridge is the one player we can't do without. We simply have no one to replace him. According to some Can will solve the DM issues?! But we have suffered a bit with injuries which means that we are having to rely on new signings who are coming into a struggling team. This all with a manager who had been poor this season.
But there is some truth in what he says.
I wouldn't take too much notice of what he or any manager says, they are all generally working their own agendas.
If only he reads this site, then he may realise that he needs to stay quiet and think about what he's saying!

Agree2 Disagree1

Neither statement is helpful, in my opinion. Downing recently said that the first he heard about BR saying he didn't 'work hard enough' was in the appears and Agger said he and BR hardly spoke. I think perhaps the manager needs to talk about his players less to the press and more to their faces.

If I were FSG, I'm not sure how happy I would be that apparently we've spent £16M on a 'calculated gamble' either.

1. Credit to Balletolli of keeping himself kool and not responding via Instagram. Facebook or Twitter. There could be only one fool in an argument. it certainly ain't Ballo

2. Transition. BR got this one spot on.

3. FSG. Sorry for them.

Agree1 Disagree0

Jeraldo: Apart from Johnson (though a case can be made for Allen), none of the others are first team regulars. In fact, BR doesn't fancy Suso or Sakho, and IMO both will be gone soon.

It is way too early too call Emre Can a senior first team regular.

Sirshanks: I agree Daniel is an important player for us, but to me, calling him the one player we cannot do without really shows the underwhelming performances of the new players. I suspect RDL and Dalglish Loyalist are right and the owners will not be particularly pleased about most of the things he has said this week.

Agree4 Disagree0

Maybe he should of kept it in his trousers, and put as much effort into the team!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

AG your post referred to senior first team players of which all the players mentioned are. Add Flanno to that list too. The first team is far more than the first 11, the first team has been depleted by not having these players around. Johnson or Flanno would have been defo starters at right back only for injury, Manquillo wouldn't have been drafted in so early only for injury. Allen I personally think would have been a starter too and to me is a massive loss. His dynamism and pressing is sorely missed now

Does anyone else think lallana should start and giving the space to roam free, he is great at pressing and works his socks off. Maybe he should be playing behind the striker.

Thoughts please.

Thanks

Believable14 Unbelievable1

I'm not sure where his best position is, but credit where it's due, he's had a few good games recently.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think he should be given the chance to play more as a forward than a midfielder and I am sure the goals will come.

My front 3 would be Lallana, Sturridge (when fit) and Sterling. I think they would cause a lot of problems for our opponents.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana does seem to get into good areas. I think he will score some goals for us. Remember he did miss some pre season and the start of the season. Here's hoping he kicks on.

Lallana, Henderson and Sterling behind Balotelli for me.

AG

We have this set up in every game ( Second half or when we trai)

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana, Sterling and Henderson will press and work extremely hard. If they work in tandem, which will happen if they keep playing together more, it gives us a good chance to win the ball high up the pitch, without taking much away from the defending as they will work backwards too. That should help Balotelli.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I suspect that the original poster was thinking more of have Lallana play in a manner not dissimilar to the life led by the black Iberian pig, who spends his days wandering the open pastures, occasionally popping in to the oak forests to nibble on a few acorns.}

I'd play him off the striker or strikers. He's our best option there, a at the minute, as I'm not convinced by Coutinho. Balotelli wouldn't be one of my strikers. I'd drop him or play him wide. We need to grind out some results and Balotelli isn't that sort of player.

Agree0 Disagree1

04 Oct 2014 10:42:05
His best position is to partner Hendo in the middle of a Diamond.
He would have more influence to the game pressing hugh and linking the attack and defense.
Both Hendo and Lallana should be deployed there.

I can't believe we have so much option on and off the bench and all we could see another transition.

God help.

I am a bit dissapointed by the negativity about the negativity (double negativity intended). I think if this site would have only positive or optimistic posts in the team's current situation, it would be a bit sad, if for no other reason then because it would be a bit boring. I mean, what you can say in the current situation if you want to be positive, beyond 'let's stick behind the manager and hope he sorts this out'. And how many times you can say this?

After all, it is a banter site and in a banter site, as I understand it, you say how great things are when they are great and how rubish they are when they are rubbish. And since no one is willing to give any of us £2m to manage the team even though each of us think he/she is fully capable of doing that, if things are bad we offer here our suggestions as to how to improve it free of charge. And as it is with solutions, some are more radical than others.

I am sure BR wouldn't enjoy reading some of the comments here, but I am also sure he has better things to do anyway, so what's the problem? Is it really new to any of you that football fans are not always the most patient in the world? (though in this case I think they have no reason to be).

In any case, this is all very temporary. If we win the next 2-3 games the negativity will dissapear and if we lose them, BR will dissapear (and the negativity will be replaced with the calm apathy of accepting our bad fate - is that better? ).

Believable5 Unbelievable1

The negativity is like a virus and it spreads.
It spreads from the Internet to radio phone-ins, to a few temporary match goers, to a few regular match goers to the majority of the crowd then to the players etc etc etc.
Nothing wrong with measured criticism, it's the reactionary, exaggerated nonsense that needs stamping out.

I was skimming through the posts at work today and there were a few posters that weren't happy with Jones coming in for Mignolet.

Personally, I think Rodgers needs to be more ruthless. It is not only Migs that needs to be dropped but Balotelli and Stevie too. These 3 players are the weak links on current form and I feel that other players such as Jones, Lambert and Lucas should be given a chance to prove that they can come in do a better job. Otherwise what is the point in having a squad if players on bad form are constantly being selected to play?

What does it say to Jones if Mignolet makes at least 1 crucial mistake per game yet still gets selected game after game? What does it say to Lucas when Gerrard still gets selected despite not performing? Or Sakho when Lovren hasn't been performing etc. I don't care what anyone says, if a player is holding back the team they need to be dropped. If the player doesn't like it (which I should hope they don't) then they need to get their head down and work hard to regain their place. I know a lot of you don't rate Skrtel, but he is a shining example of what a player should do when frozen out of the team.

Also, in response to redohio regarding my previous post on Balotelli. To state the that a player should be dropped when not in form is not the same as calling a player a flop. There is no denying that Mario has talent, but if he isn't performing he shouldn't be playing, simple as that. Oh and "class dismissed".

Going to have to disagree here red rum. I would agree that he needs ti be more ruthless but balotelli has been one of our better performers. Gerrard has struggled, but for me henderson has been invisible in many parts of the games. Part of the reason being BR playing this 4231 which is just baffling us all.

Agree1 Disagree4

Balotelli has been working hard to be fair, he just hasn't got enough players around him and enough service to really produce.

Agree4 Disagree1

Henderson has been invisible as he is basically covering for Gerrard and providing the leg work rather than play his own game.
I'm sure jones in quite happy to be on the bench actually.
You will only see the best out of ballotelli when he gets decent service from the team, he's not the type to make something out of nothing. He only gets 1 or 2 shots a game at the moment. That's not his fault it's mainly the midfield.

Agree2 Disagree0

Henderson is being invisible because Rogers is playing him too deep and he's also having to do Gerard's running for him

Agree1 Disagree0

No-one is playing well, Moreno has been one if our best.
Mario and Gerrard are the current scape goats.

Agree2 Disagree1

Brendan has copied Woys world cup tactics with having Gerrard and Henderson holding. It did not work then and will not now.

I have given this site a wide berth lately because of the posts of two so called Liverpool supporters a week or so ago, which showed a disturbing side to some of our younger fans, but after having a read over the last few days I felt compelled to post.

I have said on numerous occasions that inconsistent performances will continue and are to be expected and I've given ihmo the reasons why, and I'm surprised by all of the surprise and shock that's being shown, but I understand your frustrated and the compulsion to look to blame is totally understandable, I don't share it atm but I understand it, what's really irritating me yet again are the L.F.C.'s number 1 fan brigade slagging the posters who are venting through and anger instead of trying to see it for what it is FRUSTRATION!

If you don't agree with them which atm I don't, then just move onto the next post, because you will find the usual suspects championing everyone and everything at the club a few posts away from any perceived negativity, self satisfied that you are all the greatest fans in the world whilst at the same time blowing enough smoke up the Ed's arses that it can be seen from space.

Hi everyone is it just me or has are defence gone down hill since a Steve Clarke left

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - The club were second in the league last season, so that seem unlikely.}

The defense has gone downhill because we are playing attacking football which makes the defense vulnerable. This year, BR has tried to control games more so that we don't let in as many goals. Unfortunately, we don't have the personnel available at the moment, so are not playing up to last year's standards. It will be interesting to see if Sturridge and/ or Allen really are the missing pieces of the mess that we are currently in.

Agree2 Disagree0

Nothing to do with Steve Clarke (who was apart of the coaching team with another manager).

It is time excuses are shelved in terms of the defending and the defense. If we are going through "transition", get the basics correct; defend properly, stop conceding really really cheap goals and become hard to beat.

Eds 2 I agree are fans are not best and very fickle at the moment but arsenal fans wanted Wenger out last season and the Chelsea fans and Rafa .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Right, but they were still, in the majority, supportive of the team. That is what Liverpool seem to have lost right now.

Regardless of all of the dumb stuff the manager is saying about the "world class" striker joining next summer, finally using the "T" word etc., I would really like to see the "fans" (you lot) get behind the team and support them.

I appreciate many of you have been fans of old, many are the new type of fan that has no tolerance and in all probability the demographic of many puts you in the category of shaven-headed, lager-swilling, pot-bellied, tattooed knuckle-dragging oaf (no offence intended of course); but you should still support the team.}

Oh, so there it is, Brendans wheeled it out again, Transition, that's what we're in now, You see i automatically assumed that after caning most teams last year with attacking football that we'd gone past transition and into promising the owners a surge for the title and a run at the Champions league,
Maybe that's why we've been so poor already I never realised,
Come off it man, and getting media outlets to go along with the injury crisis angle then to mention Rossiter as part of it is embarrassing,
Go back to last years system and play two up front, get the strikers some service and then let's judge them, saying publicly that Ballo needs to start doing his job and that we're in yet another transition is seriously no good,
I admit to being a Brendan fan in the past but i'm also a fan of loyalty and knowing when to keep your mouth shut in public, i'm afraid after the new fangs, dolly bird and new transition we are in i'm even more baffled by what sort of bloke he is never mind whether he's in over his head after another bungling transfer window,
And I DO support the side good times and bad, that dosnt mean you have to love what the manager does at the club and blindly follow him does it?

What is more disappointing for me is the mention of injuries. Sturridge is the only senior regular missing and surely, the use of injuries as an excuse is just really poor poor one?

Not another one, footballs moved on, we need high level strategists now not admiral tracksuit wearing hasbeens, anyway if you read Robbie Fowlers book and believed it then Thompson is nowt but a major disruption and big mouth,

let's be positive for once?What happend to this site. I'm sick of all this negativity. I think our main problem currently is sturridge missing and our static midfield with Captain sitting to deep. Coutinho is not helping either, Hendo is only midfield player on form. We are missing Allen and Can two dynamic players. They cover space, like to press and are good in defence. I think we will grow like we did in Brendo first season, just hope it won't be too late. support the players!!

Believable1 Unbelievable4

Well, when there's only been three wins by the start of October, I think negativity is understandable.

I'm not in the "we're doomed!" camp, the "[insert a list of 12 players here] need to go" camp, and definitely not in the "Sack Rodgers!" camp (is anyone here actually in that?), by any means. But I think it is understandable for people to be downbeat and critical. Some go overboard, yes, and others don't. That's human nature, really.

For me, our midfield just isn't functioning correctly. Defensive errors and individual players not playing as well as they can obviously doesn't help, but there have been few teams that can get around a having a poor midfield. It leaves your defence more exposed, and leaves your attackers receiving the ball less often so they're less effective and have less chances to make up for mistakes. If we can sort our midfield, our defence and attack will improve. Dropping Hendo deeper to help Gerrard seems to be Rodgers' idea to sort it, but I don't think it really worked all that well against Everton and Basel. Maybe it's something the players will get more used to.

Its time we get back behind the team. They need our support. I mean, if we as supporters can see the performance is as such. i'm pretty positive BR knows it too. Its up to him, staff, players and fans to get it right.

Stop blaming, this is where true fans prevails. We all want our team to win, its only right. But we need to show our support too when the tean does not. We can't control who plays, who doesnt, who should have been bought, who should be sold.

Let BR do the thinkering and thinking. Just my two cents worth.

I admire your ability to put a positive spin on us completely failing to play decent football for the first 15-20 games, but sadly think that it is more of a negative we spend half of the season in a coma than it is a positive that we play well for the other half of the season.

If we want to win anything we need to be consistent. Otherwise we'll just be also rans like Arsenal, only probably not as good.

Even If the fans shut their mouth and watch the show with " WE ARE LIVERPOOL BANNERS ". I am afraid the scene would be different in US and rightly so.
With none of the fans loosing as much as money as owners, They would have already raised their voice.

The only positive a Liverpool fan could take from the season till now are our main rivals are having worse than us.

What has happened to this site lately. Are we really that fickle? What has happened to team support and constructive criticism? Do we really only support the team when it's winning and playing teams off the park?
Agreeing or not with stadium plans, transfer policy, team shape, tactics, selection and individual performances. Can this not be done anymore in an adult fashion?
Constant abuse of everyone from owners to the tea lady has now spread through to individual posters against each other.
Every team and their fans start the season with ambition to finish at their maximum. There can only be a certain amount who are successful through the cups or league position.
Last season we had a wonderful season beyond even the most ardent fans expectations. We had the 2 best strikers in the league which even managed to counteract a poor defence.
The squad needed reinforcements whether Luis went or not to cope with the extra games.
Key injuries along with his departure have lead to wholesale changes to matchday personnel.
So instead of putting 1 in here or there to acclimatise to the balance of the team, many have to adapt quicker. It's not an excuse it's realistic.
Can we not talk sensibly about it? Is the need for abuse necessary? It has become unbearable to read some of the comments on here. I feel for the Eds because at least I can choose not to come on here after a match unless we've won at least 3-0.
We all feel the same disappointment with a bad result or performance, yet it seems pointless to come on here for a sensible discussion about where it went wrong. It descends into anarchy and vile hatred for anyone associated with the club. I hope it changes for the sake of the page.

Well I never would of thought we have so many haters, fair Play to Jones for waiting to get another chance, but i see most of the so called supporters having a go at migs and slating him, sound pleased he's been benched, But my question is this what if Jones make a few mistakes will you be then slagging him off as well.
We are ment to be SUPPORTERS not SLATERS

Good Afternoon Ed's & Reds,

Really looking forward to the W.B.A. game, hoping we bounce back after the midweek CL match. Also hoping there isn't half as much negativity at Anfield this weekend as there has been on here this last week. Chin up Ladies & Gentlemen, stop sharpening your knives and let's see where we are in the league at Christmas. Until then enjoy the Football and support your Club. In the words of the late, great Arthur Lee "Only you can bring back the good old days".

Have a great weekend everyone, see you at the game.

I agree with Ed have been a supporter for 50 odd years and there just comes a time when we just have to support the players and show that we can get behind them in the bad times as well as the good.

There are a lot of very young lads in the team.

On th positive I think Llanna is fantastic player. On the negative Ballo is a complete tosser.

{Ed002's Note - It is interesting to see, yet again, the modern day Liverpool supporters getting on the back of a player who did not, as far as I recall, play even a single league game for the club last season.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Make sure you get to the ground early and daub some hate messages on the stadium so Brad Jones sees them when he arrives. Burning effigies en route to the ground, hate campaigns on Twitter and Facebook - it is the Liverpool way.}

03 Oct 2014 12:45:44
As opposed to mindlessly cheering and praising players and staff who aren't up to standards and are performing well below par?

The superfan idiocy is getting boring now, if i don't perform to standards my boss doesn't come and pat me on the back at the end of day

The question is, why Brad starting instead of Mingo , I would guess its injury or personal issues. If its down to form then this is not the way that should be dealt with, and Simon have n't done much wrong.
Players should not be used as escape goat for the recent performances. Its not one problem, there is few issues all cross the pitch

{Ed002's Note - I really don't think you should be putting a player down because he was not in the first team that had success and finished second. But I see this all of the time on the Liverpool pages now. Little surprises me. Many of the so called fans do nothing but please themselves spewing hate over the players, the management, the owners and the club. Certainly Liverpool leading the way in the hate stakes.}

JLPred, its harsh to have a go at Brad Jones when he has barely played. He certainly tries his best and we should support whoever is pulling on a red shirt. The same goes for Migs, he's having a tough time but having a go at him won't help. He needs support to get his confidence back. Try supporting the players!

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm pretty sure I'm not in the minority when I agree with Eds. Brad Jones was always spectacularly unspectacular. In other words I don't recall ever thinking "wow what a goalie" or "wow what a plonker"

In fact i would go as far to say he would be the perfect number 2 goalie if it were not for Chelsea's unrealistic and unsustainable goalkeeping benchwarmer.

I can't remember a single thing that Brad Jones has ever done wrong. Maybe if we get EA Sports to up his FIFA 15 rating and put an I and an O at the end of his name then all will be fine.

Agree2 Disagree1

In my opinion, Brad Jones is a better keeper than Mingolet. Just as good at shot stopping, better in one on one situations, better at commanding his area and he also has better distributuion (marginally though!).

Jones' only major problem is that he flaps a bit at the ball (rubber wrists). He drops quite a few shots because of this and nearly always looks to punch clear from set pieces rather than colecting the ball. He is not a long term solution by any means.

He is not world class, but he is a good keeper and I'd feel far more comfortable with him in goal than Mingolet who lacks to be seriously lacking confidence and form right now.

Personally, I'd have given Danny Ward a go.

Agree5 Disagree8

Really glad to see Jones get a chance. I really do not understand what he has done wrong to get such hate. The guy has been professional and patient and could not do worse than our current no.1. Mignolet had his chance and blew it

Brad Jones is good back-up 'keeper and a fantastic professional and a really friendly man. He is the only current LFC player I have met in person and I cannot speak highly of him.

However, I think it counter-productive to drop Mignolet now. While he has been inconsistent and has made mistakes, dropping him now smacks of desperation, to show to the supporters that BR is actually doing something. If he wants to drop a player because of for, or settling in issues, start with Markovic and Balotelli.

What is the agreement of the Origi loan deal. Since he is 19, he won't have to be registered for Liverpool's Premier League squad. Therefore, is it possible for Liverpool to recall him in any way such as compensation to Lille?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Origi will not be available until the end of the season.}

We do not want to be the sort of club who reneges on deals at the drop of a hat. (We have enough trouble with relationships with other clubs/players with what our manager and chairman say!!)

Origi by all accounts is doing well at Lille, and being there for this season will be good for him.

Bringing him back now will not help our current situation (we certainly do not need another young "prospect" who isn't quite at the right level yet).

The deal is good for both parties as it is!

ok guys a couple of things, IMO we just don't seem to want to whip balls in the box, we have a tall powerfull striker let's put some in the box for him, we have to full backs that bomb on to put it in the box, like at spurs when balo nearly scored. I am frustrated with results but people calling for BR heads, come on guys even moyes had more time.
Again balo needs a strike partner he is not a lone striker, he show signs of what he can do so let's give him a chance.

Sterling just looks a little low on confidence after the boro game

BR is the manager and the one who picks the team, formation and motivate the payers.
So rightly He should be accountable for the results out there.

Agree2 Disagree4

Everyone wants to blame the players, but it is the manager that picks them, motivates, and also changes things when it is not going right, the players will only do what the manager dictates,

if we want to really dissect the problem that our team is facing then don't look at what they do on the field, that is only a 90 minute shop window of what is going wrong behind the scenes,

Agree2 Disagree0

Yes BR picks team and motivates ect but the players have to take some of the responsiblities as well not just BR.

Agree0 Disagree0

What we need to do is to get behind the team no matter who is picked, we have missed sturridge no doubt but now is the time they really need our support. whoever said these things come easy anyway. we played our best football v spurs with ballo and sturridge up front and i think we will improve a lot when we can go back in with that formation, hard work is required at the back but we will get there

03 Oct 2014 10:18:40
Dear me, what is Rodgers playing at with his recent comments on Balotelli? He's struggling yes - but what is the need in coming out basically saying he was the last resort, a risk etc etc. Whilst we probably know that - how is it going to help by coming out saying it publicly? That's hardly going to motivate Mario is it? Is he already making Balotelli the scape goat for poor team performances? Our problems on the pitch are far more than the strikers to be honest.

Someone needs to take BR to the side and a have a word about how he deals with the media - he improved slightly last season but he's made some very strange comments this season

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree2

He's trying his best to make sure everyone knows Balotelli wasn't his choice. Lovren's been very poor so far but you don't hear a word about from BR about how he needs to improve. He tends to alienate players who he simply doesn't fancy.

The broader issue for me is how is it that the best you can come up with as a proper replacement for Suarez is a 'calculated gamble'? We had nearly 2 months to replace him, not 2 hours.

We (as a club) had a lot longer than 2 months, as soon as we knew he wanted to leave we should have started looking

Well i will repeat what i said on Tuesday morning. Forget the free flowing football, just get a victory against WBA. I would have been happy with a draw against Basle but a win is a must against West Brom. Infact the next 4 results in the league are extremely important but not so much the performances. They will come with confidence, which you get from winning. Come on Brendan.

Why are fans calling for BR head?
Our problem is sturridge got injured, we played well against Man city we had chances at 0-0.
Against spurs with balo/sturridge up top and sterling roaming behind the strikers we were great, sturridge got injured when we just started to play well.
Our problem is that borini and lambert are not good enough for us(thats my opinion).
Markovic is 20 years old needs time but has real qualities, BR needs to play him so he can settle.
I like everybody who reads this to look at suarez stats when he was 20, suarez played 29 games for groningen and scored 10 goals 4 from the penalty spot.
Once we have sturridge back the hole team will play differently, markovic moreno can will only get better.

Fans are calling for his head because we spent 125 million on mostly unproven players for the future, 125 million on proven top quality players was needed.
he constantly makes a fool of himself and the entire club on press days and his tactics are extremely one dimensional, relying on defensive stability of which we have none.

What, If Sturridge gets another Injury. Stop playing football?

Agree1 Disagree2

I don't want to get back into the BR debate again but since you are the second person in the last day saying here we played well against City - I ahve to say that there were maybe 10-15 minutes we were in that game but for the most of it it looked like the teams on the pitch are from two different leagues.

We can argue about what is the best way forward but I find it hard to understand how people think things are not too bad. All of our games other than the one against Spurs were hard to watch. We have poor defence, our midfield struggle to produce aervice to our front guys and our finish is shocking. If Sturridge is back and he and the guys can start and perform consistently well and win then we will all be happy but I don't understand why should fans ignore what they see. This is not one or two games now this is almost ten.

Agree1 Disagree0

For, Sturridge always gets injured, Sturridge will always get injured. We knew this last year and one of the first pieces of business was to get cover for this. Brendan never did this, end of story. It's that simple, Mario was a panic buy who was a "risk" as Brendan has since said.
Remy was the much better option, Huntelaar was the much better option, Bony was a better option.

Well now the dust is settled on a truly uninspiring performance, where do we go from here?
Well I suggest first of all that we stop the nonsense about sacking BR. I hold him responsible for most of the current problems. But to talk about getting rid so soon is premature and counter productive.
Lets give him a chance to right his wrongs and then if he is unable, talk about this subject then.
The current situation reminds me very much of his 1st 6 months in charge where we were just as anaemic in attack and vulnerable in defence as we are now. He adapted from that and gave us 18 months of fantastic footy.
He's gone back from that, which baffles and disappoints me. But I'm intrigued to see if he has the ability to turn things around, particularly as unlike at the start, he has spent heavily and this is mostly HIS team.
If he does manage it, then not only will that subject of the sack be futile, it will mean we are successful and he will be a better manager for the experience.
I'd like to see a bit more consistency in selection and tactics and less tinkering.
Sakho is injured now, so play Skertel and Lovren with the same 2 full backs every game. 2games a week, every week. I appreciate that is not sustainable for the season, but they can rest later on when the players and team are performing better!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I wish you were right, but this is exactly how we started last season too. He gave us a few months of fantastic footie, after a dreadful start last season too. The difference was, even though we were awful then too, we picked up results. This is clearly a problem he is not learning from and that to me is a major worry. If you are repeating the same mistakes year after year then you are not improving and he needs to improve as a coach to be good enough for Liverpool FC.

Another thing, why do people rave about the full backs this season? I like Moreno, but he has struggled defensively, which was expected. He was also needed, as the alternatives were just not ready or, in Enrique's case, simply nowhere near good enough. I still have an issue with Manquillo. Why sign him and send Wisdom out on loan and sell Kelly? He has been consistently out of position, too slow to get back, not particularly solid when he is getting back and not providing any kind of service of quality balls when he is forward. All he seems to do is close down the space for whoever is playing in front of him. Ok, he is an improvement over Johnson, who pretty much does the same, but he is no improvement over either Kelly or Wisdom. Wisdom is far better defensively and much more effective in the attack, even though he doesn't just charge forward constantly. I don't get this love in for Manquillo at all. He is leaving us just as exposed as Johnson.

Sorry for the moan!}

Don't be sorry Ed. Been saying for 2 years that we should've given Wisdom, McLaughlin, Smith, Kelly etc chances. Looks like Ibe and Teixeira will be on the scrap heap next.

I like Rodgers, but for all the media bull about him liking younger players, he certainly doesn't give many of them a chance. Ilori and Flanagan don't look like getting into our defensive set up either with Lovren and Manquillo signing.

It's almost laughable. I appreciate what Rodgers has done for us, but he has absolutely bombed in the last 6 months. I hope he sorts this out, but I would not hesitate to bring down the guillotine if things have not improved by the end of this month. That doesn't make me fickle, it just means I care about my club.

Also people, stop scapegoating Balotelli. The whole team is a problem and that is the managers fault.

Agree and Disagree with your views ED01

Agree to the point, We need to keep picking up points and stop playing the perfect way. Arsenal tries it every year and eventually loose points.
They headline major press and channels as the best team to play the flair passing and moving football, In reality we were a country ahead off them last season with pretty much the same or lesser squad.

Our current crop of players has some strength, Just play to their strength rather teach them a new way to play your ( BR ) brand of football

Disagree on Monquillo

BR wants his full backs to contribute more to attack than just being an old fashined full backs. He is fully aware of its consequences.

Johnson doesn't contribute anything to attack. You had a fantastic review on johnson ( He goes forward, meet an opposition player, cut inside and pass back, hardly reach the byline and whip a cross )

Monquillo has already given us more croses from full back position than any of our full backs.

But I do agree you need a top class DM to cover them up.

Nice reply Ed01

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I know what BR wants, my point is that Manquillo was not needed to provide it when we have McLaughlin, for instance. Secondly, my point is that what BR wants is costing us time and time again. He needs to learn that sometimes you have to accept that you can't get what you want, as the consequences are not worth it.}

I think you answered your question yourself Ed001. Johnson and Enrique were so poor that once a half decent player comes in to replace them, they seem very good.

Also, we have players left right and centre, playing very very poor and the people who have been standing above those poor performance have been Manquilio and Moreno.

IMO, I don't see much wrong with Manquilio. I think he is 'solid'. Nothing spectacular, but does his basics well.

Moreno's strengths are attacking and his natural attacking tendencies would push the opposition back, but for that we have to be playing attacking footy.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - when is Manquillo solid? When he charges up the field leaving us exposed time and time again, before we even have the ball fully controlled? Or when he is caught upfield on an attack while Henderson and Gerrard and Skrtel or whoever else is in the team are having to come across and fill in the huge gaping hole he leaves?}

ED01. And there comes Ours and truly your fav player into the pitcure. Gary Medal or any other DM.
Offenisve full backs are quiet vulnerable to track back. A top class DM covers it.
Mascherano / Busquet at Barca, Schweinstiger, Alonso all these player covers for Marcelo, Alaba and Alves.
Just My opinion.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - which is why I wanted us to sign Medel, or a similar player, to allow us to play with full backs charging forward at will. Mind it matters little if no one presses the ball, doesn't matter how many players you have in defence if the opposition continue to be given time and space on the ball to do what they want.}

Agree about Manquillo ed001. Where was he when Basel got the ball on their left in the attack that led to the corner and the goal? He was way out of position and it gave their winger all the time in the world to come inside and get a shot away. decent save by migs and then poor defending by Skrtl cost is the goal. If Manquillo had done his job in the first place, Basel probably wouldn't have scored. not from that attack anyway.

Hi Eds/Reds

Ed001 i'd like your opinion on this if you have time or an opinion on this please.
Does anybody else think the problem with Sterling lately is that he attacks too much, Like every single time he gets the ball he attacks and makes himself predictable. I've watched Ronaldo a bit lately to try and compare and the difference is noticeable. Ronaldo probably attacks 5 times out of ten he receives the ball the other 5 he either stands still and flicks the ball behind him for an over lapping full back or cuts inside 2 or three paces making the opposition think he's going to drive at them so a defender pushes forward to close him down and he just plays a simple 5 yard pass either to a central player or into the space the defender vacated if there's a runner. Where as Sterling just attacks 10 out of 10 hence why he gets closed down so much as they no he going to run at them and not do a simple thing like a 5 yard pass.

Do any reds believe all this hype around him has made him believe he has to do this or constantly make something happen.

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I think he has just fallen into the trap of trying too hard because we are playing poorly. I don't think it is hype, it is a young lad learning and this will happen. It is up to the coaching staff to take him aside and tell him what he is doing wrong and improve the bits he is doing well also.}

It might be off 2 reasons.

1. As Ed01 mentioned, The team asking for too much from him.

2. Overconfidence, Trying to do everything by himself.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I never said anything about the team. I said he is trying too hard. Please don't make up nonsense in your head.}

The last 2 games he's played particularly poorly. He's losing the ball trying to make things happen to much, and putting in poor crosses. He isn't handling the frustration well either, he could have and probably should have gotten red the other night in europe.

ED01. The one reason He is trying too hard would be the expectations the Team and manager has on his shoulder to turn around the game
He is just 19, has his possitive and flaws. We are over using him.

Januzag had the similar situation last year udner Moyes, The Kid was asked to do everything by himself at UTD.

All I meant Ed01, I hope you had the similar view.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry no, this is something he has decided to do on his own. He has looked at what made him successful in the youth sides and tried to go with that. If you look at his quotes he has even said as much.}

03 Oct 2014 10:49:33
ED01. If that's his strength, Then either play to it or bring him down to earth and play what you would want him to do.
Sterling is a player who loves to attack and score goals, But He need space to run and needs players around him to pick and move qucikly.
He hardly gets in the system we play. Ballo doesn't help, Markovic misses large part of game. Our Midfield is static with Gerrard and Hendo sitting and dropping deep. He tries everything himself.

I might be wrong in my view.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is all very well playing to a player's strength, but they need to be able to do more than one thing or the whole team will become predictable. Sterling needs to learn to look for the simple passes as well as the dribble. Mix it up and you become impossible to predict and the opponent has to wait to see what you do. Then you have a split second of opportunity to do something before they can react.}

Sterling pretty much came out and said himself that when he suffered the dip in form this time last year that he sat down and watched some video clips with his agent. They were trying to see how he had been so effective with the youth system.

And the answer was that whenever he got the ball he just ran straight at the heart of the defence. over and over again. And you would have to say that last season (the 2nd half of it) this definitely worked.

But this season he is trying the same moves and it doesn't seem to be as effective. I'm hopeful that it will come good and he will catch fire again. But the boy seriously needs to work on his finishing. Could/Should have had a hat-trick on tuesday nite

You are correct about BR's media handling skills Ed's, and he strikes again with his words on Balotelli yesterday. I haven't seen the interview but have read quotes and it's like he's singling Mario out to blame for the bad start as well as pretty much saying that we signed him as nobody else was available and that Brendan had said it was risky, making it look like he didn't want to sign him. I'm sure that will please Mario! What are your thoughts on this?
Cheers

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - like I keep saying, he should shut his mouth and stop talking, he is not good with the media. The club need to take him aside and work on this.}

03 Oct 2014 09:12:12
He should defo shut his mouth, You are absolutely bang on with it. He is been mocked around by everyone.

How would He motivate a player ( Balletolli ) Whom He calims as the last option?
What would you expect from a player who is let down by a manager already.
Instead of trying to be possitive, BR has hit a dig at the whole striking department.

I could see balletolli messing with BR sooner or later.

Yeah, pretty much claims Balotelli is gamble and was the best available to him.

{Ed001's Note - he is a young coach making mistakes, the problem is that we are not a place for a young coach to learn his trade. He needs to go back to what worked last season, press high and force the game onto the opposition, rather than sitting back and letting it be forced onto us. He needs to shut up and stop talking so much, just have prepared words and no more, to give the media, instead of the bilge he keeps spewing. Most of all though, he needs to be a coach and not a manager, he is clearly no manager. He might well become one, but I just can't see it happening. Oh and stop using a back 3, we don't have the players to suit it, and most of all, stop looking to add players we don't need and alienate the youngsters in doing so. And Brendan, please, please, please just give Suso a chance.}

Totally agree mate thanks for the answer. Shame Suso looks set to be out for 2 months now.

Suso is out ed001

{Ed002's Note - Recovering from being Brendaned no doubt - another groin injury is it?}

03 Oct 2014 09:54:43
ED01, I don't see Suso getting chance, He like some deserves since our biggies are having a torrid time.

I also fear for Hendo, With us playing some of the most boring football in years ( certainly against his strength ) He might loose his confidence.

A question for Ed002 or Ed001, which if any available managers out there do you think could be good for Liverpool if a worst case scenario (more bad results and Rodger's sacking) happens? I'm not saying I want it to happen, and feel free not to answer if you think it'll attract flak. Cheers, and as always stellar work guys

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get in to this. Sorry.}

Rally behind Brendan and the team. I admit it really difficult watching us at the moment but we've got to give it time.

Mario is looking like we're going back to Carroll and I think we need a No 7 on the pitch. Maybe Lallana
can try to take up that role, or stirling (who was also
poor in the last game). I think we need to get back to the Diamond rather than 4-3-3 especially when
Strudge is injured. And we've got to start scoring goals.

Come on Liverpool!

I and every one are rightly behind the team. But I have no idea why so many are worshipping BR.

He has bought close to 20 new players in 2 years and Sturridge is the only one who has been consistently performing.

How could a manager go wrong 360 degree in less than 4 months is beyond me.

Boom, going 'wrong' 360 degrees would mean you're still facing the same way?

Well I thought I'd give it a day to de-stress after last nights performance, and there is only one point I am going to make and that is regarding Balotelli.

For me, even with Sturridge out he shouldn't be in our starting XI. I don't want us to change our system from fast, flowing and more importantly successful football just to accommodate one player. He brings very little to the team and should be treated exactly the same as any other squad player and be played according to his performances. I'd much rather we played big Rickie who we know is a team player or Borini who we know will work his socks off. I mean what's the worst that could happen? We aren't winning games as it is.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Balotelli needs the games for his confidence he's is someone who could strike 20 goals a season if he gets into gear while borini nd lambert will not come close to a season tally like that

Agree6 Disagree3

I am not going to say balotelli is a flop just yet. But what obvious is he needs time to play the liverpool way as we certainly don't want the whole liverpool team to play the balotelli way

Agree0 Disagree1

Balotelli's most prolific season for any club was the last one (13/14) for AC Milan when he had 14 league goals (3 of which were from penalties and 4 from free kicks). He's never had a 20 goal season ever for anyone, why do you think he'll start now?

Agree3 Disagree1

03 Oct 2014 03:10:31
Shane that is so contradictory borini has not had a run of games so how could you possibly know that?

Agree0 Disagree0

So he`a flop after 6 games where he is still finding his feet in a new club, new players and a new system. I guess you were part of the same crowd who called Hendo, Lucas, and to some extent Studge a flop before they proved everyone wrong. Balo looked good w/ Studge next to him at Spurs and w/ a bit of luck and fitness, he could have scored and YOU would have been calling him a bargain. You can only b called a flop if you`ve had ample time to adapt and opportunities to prove your worth and six games is NO yardstick to determine if a player`s a flop. Class Dismissed!

Agree3 Disagree2

Redohio, I don't see where anyone has called him a flop? Could we have bought better- I think so, yes. Will Balotelli score goals? Undoubtedly so, I just suspect it won't be at the rate people might be thinking.

03 Oct 2014 06:08:24
Could someone tell me, Y the heck are we buying someone who wouldn't add anything to your team.
Absolute nonsense from TC and the club.

Ballo was the same player from Years.

Wasting money. Utter nonsense.

So, Whose the next one to be frozen out.

Also, "class dismissed"? You are fooling yourself if you think you actually schooled anyone with that sanctimonious BS.

Balo and Studge will be a good partnership

Agree0 Disagree1

I'm not calling him a flop, I would have him come off the bench and earn a starting spot.

I actually think he will be a good player for us, but my point is on current form he wouldn't be in my starting XI.
