Listen I'm not joining the 'Brendan Out' nonsense. But one day I'd love to see Jamie Carragher as Liverpool Manager. Legend

Believable3 Unbelievable9

04 Nov 2014 07:39:36
Why? He hasn't shown that he can hack it as a youth coach, never mind a manager

Agree5 Disagree0

Carragher has gone in to punditry because he doesn't have a philosophy on how the game should be played. It's easy to sit and pick faults in a team but actually devising your own style is the first step to management. Perfecting that style and translating it onto the pitch is what deciphers whether or not you are a good manager or not.

Maybe one day he'll sit down and actually start to think of his own way of playing and then move into management, but right now he is comfortable in the cowards role of just publically slaughtering others. Besides, half of the crap him and Neville spout on MNF is absolute frollocks anyway. He is nowhere near ready for management.

The same goes for Gerrard.

I do agree with the OP though. ONE day it would be nice. Not right now though. Personally I'm hoping for Hyypia one day. Red through and through unlike Jamie. He's also proven himself to be a very good young manager. He is still perfecting his own visions and styles but at least he has taken the first steps to becoming a top manager. Carragher looks more than happy working for Murdoch right now.

Agree1 Disagree5

04 Nov 2014 14:11:36
So was Klopp a coward who didn't have a footballing philosophy when he was a pundit on German TV before becoming Dortmund coach?

Was Cruyff a coward without a footballing philosophy and nowhere ready for management when he quit the national team before the 1978 World Cup and watched the tournament as a TV pundit?

Some of your comments are intelligent but sorry this is utter tripe.

Agree2 Disagree1

Where did I call Carragher a coward? I said he's doing the coward job. If he sits in his studio until he retires like Lineker and Lawrenson then yes he is a coward.

I have not said he is a coward anywhere only that he is in a cowards job. I doubt he'll stay there because I imagine he probably will want to try and impose a philosophy upon a team one day.

People on here need to read things more carefully. A pundits job is a cowards job. They sit in their studio immune to criticism and just attack others because they're either not ready to take a proper job in football themselves or they're just not good enough.

Examples of people not ready: Carragher, Southgate, Klopp.

Examples of people not good enough: Lineker, Lawrenson, Shearer.

Any manager would agree with me. It is a cowards job. Temporarily, it just means you want easy work. Long term it is for people scared of or not good enough for management or coaching (obviously excluding guest appearances).

That's just my opinion mate. It's not tripe.

Agree0 Disagree2

04 Nov 2014 18:08:28
To be fair though ems, some players might just not have any aspirations of management,
We can all point to tough professions outside of football that for one reason or another that we didn't enter.
I hardly think anybody could call Carragher a coward, whether he chooses to ever manage anybody or not!
We could use a few with Carras fight out on the pitch tonight,

04 Nov 2014 18:42:05
EMS you are perpetuating Ed002's assertion that all liverpool fans do is sprout vitriol at the team, manager, club and ex players. i'm ashamed to read what you have posted, yeah i know its your opinion but maybe some opinions should be kept inside.

Agree0 Disagree0

Phil Neal like Carra now, was also going to be the next LFC manager.

We got another one instead :-)

I do like what i have seen with Hyppia though

Agree0 Disagree0

EMS - you are aware presumably that Lawrenson had a spell in management, and resigned from Oxford United when a certain Dean Saunders was sold without him knowing?

Eds,

There has been lots of talk about our transfer policy being poor. The question I have is how involved was Cortese when at Southampton in their transfers as they certainly seem to be a club with a coherent strategy. And could he be a candidate should some sort of role become available at the club?

Apologies if this is nonsense, but like many I'm becoming exasperated with how the club is being run in addition to the results.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Cortese did a great job and should get some credit for it. I don't see any possible link to Liverpool at this time.}

03 Nov 2014 21:30:23
Must say tonight and every other night I've seen him play, Martin Kelly is a good player. Disappointing he never got to show it at liverpool due to injuries and not being favoured when fit. If he can keep fit then Palace have gained a very capable RB/CB

Believable15 Unbelievable0

Guess what mate

He got brendaned.

Agree10 Disagree3

I would have kept Kelly/Wisdom instead of signing Manquillo on loan. The 2 English players are homegrown and would have remained loyal unlike Manquillo who is only on loan and even if we make the deal permanent, he will jump ship the moment one of the big Spanish clubs come calling. Very disappointing to see academy players being cast aside in favor of outsiders.

Agree5 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - more to the point, both Wisdom and Kelly are better players than Manquillo.}

I agree Indian Buzzer.

Agree1 Disagree0

Is there anything else people on here can whinge about? Flanno had clearly earned the right to be first choice full back this season before his unfortunate injury. That's right a scouser from our youth set up who was given the chance to play and actually took it, unlike many of the others who haven't taken their opportunity, and have apparently been "Brendaned". Kelly would have been 3 rd choice at best behind Flanno and Johnson and wouldn't have got the regular game time he needs to fully recover from the injuries that have blighted him. I wish him well and hope he has a good career but, mainly due to injury, he didn't cut it at Liverpool, that's football. Wisdom again would have been behind Flanno but is developing into a very good player with the loans to first Derby and now WBA getting regular starts.with Johnson likely to be moving on Wisdom should come back next year and be a great addition to our squad at either RB or CB. The loan system is a great way of getting young players regular game time to aid their development but the fact is that very few young players make it from youth level to the first team of any of the top clubs including Liverpool because they aren't good enough, they are not all "Brendaned"

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry but why would he have been 3rd choice behind Johnson, when he has shown himself to be better? Also, why would Johnson, who is in his last year of contract, be any hindrance to keeping a young player, who would have also provided cover at centre back, especially if Rodgers is going to persist with this lopsided 3 centre backs system? You are defending us using the loan system to bring in a player, at a fair cost as well, rather than just using players we already have, but have yet to provide any kind of defence for it, other than 'he knows best' which is just not a reason.}

Ed001, bear with me if you will

You claimed GJ had a play when fit clause. a while back which is why he stillgets games.Going off this line of thought. Would it not have served a purpose then to loan out wisdom, who could get game time at west brom, and bring in a loan, who won't be as disheartened not to start ahead of GJ for his final season, then once, GJ contract finishes, manquillo goes back, GJ leaves, and Wisdom has a full season under his belt.

That's if that clause is enforceable and true.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that doesn't really matter one way or the other when he is in the final year of his contract, you can keep hold of Kelly and not take on a loan, with Kelly playing cup matches at least. That was my point. This Manquillo signing is just idiocy, a costly idiocy, when we had a better player already at the club. What on earth this has to do with Wisdom I fail to see?

As for it being enforceable or not, I know quite a few players that have had those contracts in the past, usually for lesser clubs, all were adhered to. It is irrelevant whether or not it is legally binding, what matters is that it is a trust issue for future signings. If you start refusing to accept clauses in contracts, you start creating a future problem for the club as a whole.

Then there is the unsightly legal battle it would involve etc. Is it really worth it just to give a youngster a run out, who then might not play well anyway. It takes a lot of bravery to tell the CEO that it is worth all that just to drop an experienced England international and play an untried youngster. Rodgers clearly doesn't have that kind of bottle, or Gerrard would not play every minute of every game, even when he is not playing well.}

Ed if I was picking the team Kelly wouldn't have been behind Johnson, as I would have moved Glen on by now, but he would have been 2nd choice to Flanno who earnt the right to start with his displays last year. I had huge expectations watching Kelly come through our youth teams and his early contributions with the firsts but injury has hit him hard and he had looked a shadow of the player he was in his last few games for us. What he needs is regular games which he will get at Palace but wouldn't have got with us due to Flanno, prior to his injury. Believe me I do not think BR "knows best" in fact he us showing just how much he still has to learn at the moment but his is still a relatively young and inexperienced manager ar a huge club. But I am not prepared to turn my back on him and the club the minute things don't go our way.We are only 9 games into the season and in my opinion I think he deserves time to turn things around which I think he will do. I know you don't agree but we all have our own view of things. What does annoy me is that last year I thought the Manc fans proved how classless they were with their total lack of support for Moyes yet here we are going down the same sad toad. A banner flying over Anfield on Saturday? Surely we aren't going to stoop that low?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I hope that never happens. Clearly some divvy just wanted to get his ugly mug in the papers.}

Just playing devils advocate to BR's thinking on that one. Thanks for the reply.

I wish we'd have kept Kelly.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I will have to put that as a poll of the day question, see how many would have preferred to keep Kelly than sign Manquillo.}

04 Nov 2014 12:51:46
Personally, I'm very glad we got rid of Kelly. I really like the guy - still do, and I don't live far from his place in London so see him around occasionally in shops - asked him from an autograph and he still remembers me. But Liverpool wasn't working out for him. His injuries were never ending, he struggled to get game time coming back from them and get himself back up to speed and before you knew it, he was injured again. He needed a change, some fresh air in his face and I hope now he has it, he can push on. For my money he was the best RB in England when he went to the Euro's, and I sincerely hope that he recaptures that for Palace but very much doubt he ever was going to for us

"Our defence have come under quite a bit of criticism. It is nowhere near as bad as people make out.

"What has been the frustration defensively has been the mistakes and sloppy goals we have given away.

"There haven't been too many times when the team has been outdone.

"When you have an attacking philosophy you are going to be susceptible in your defensive side because you are not sat with nine players behind the ball."

-Brendan Rodgers

I'm seriously starting to wonder he watches the same games as everyone else.

Believable9 Unbelievable3

The guys deluded. He must be on about all this exciting attacking football we have been playing. Pass around the back then hoof.

An attacking philosophy actually scores goals Brendan.

Agree5 Disagree0

04 Nov 2014 00:43:16
Brendan Rodgers is a good coach but he is terrible in the transfer market

Agree2 Disagree0

The thing with Brendan that makes me cringe every time is he doesn't keep his answers simple. He feels he has to give a speech in response to every question which obviously leads to him contradicting himself and talking utter dribble.

However, despite his dribbling skills, I don't doubt his managerial skills, and feel that if we can achieve a top 4 finish this season, he will have learnt a lot on how to manage the squad to get the best out of all competitions. Let's not forget he is still relatively inexperienced at this level and has a lot to learn, but as we know in the modern game fans are impatient and managers have to learn quick or face the axe. I really hope for his sake that he can fix the current problems because he is a good manager.

Red Rum

Agree4 Disagree1

He`s too busy trying to lecture people and trying to outsmart people instead of just staying simple hence, his foot-in-mouth disease and has ended up outsmarting himself. As for him getting Top 4, if he does, I don`t see how he can sell that to the owners especially w/ the promises he`s made. We shall see.

Look I think people need to take a breath and calm down when looking at the team. We have effectively lost 50 goals from last year's team. Yes the summer purchases have mostly been a flop, but if you expected Balo to score 50 this season than you need help. Sturridge coming back won't fix the defense or transfer policy, but he will solve some of our attacking problems. The space is there now it's just no one is running into it. If we had sturridge the whole season we'd certainly be higher up the table and there wouldn't be this sense of panic.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

I love Daniel and think he's a brilliant striker, but raise your hand if you expected Sturridge to be fit all year? No one?

Agree6 Disagree0

03 Nov 2014 23:23:39
If we had sturridge the whole season
==============
Thats the problem cblfc, we spent over 100m we should n't be dependent on one player. Even if Daniel plays some part tomorrow (and I hope he will only play if he is 100% fit), it will take him a couple of weeks to get back to his usual self.

Agree3 Disagree0

03 Nov 2014 20:36:22
The two players I thought would go straight into our first team - and really improve things - were Lallana and Can. so. what chance either of them starts tomorrow? They only warmed the bench during that turgid Newcastle match.

Jack Dunn training with the first team at the bernabeau is what's fundimentally wrong at our academy. If he wasn't scouse they'd be no chance he was there he's been out injured all season yet he gets this chance of a lifetime ahead of all the other players. It's an awful decision I know the u19's are all there for there game but why not pick a top performer from that team as a well done?

Believable2 Unbelievable8

The lad is only gaining a great experience with the first team mate at the best club team in the world. What's wrong with that, he's the best young striker we have, who would u of let train instead?

Agree3 Disagree0

Personally i think you need to wind your neck in!

Agree5 Disagree0

He's far from the best young striker at the club and he's been injured for the last 6 months how is it justified he's picked to train with the first team? Ojo, wilson, kent, rossiter and Jones all deserved that chance for what they have done this season

Agree1 Disagree0

Accidentally agreed with that so please don't think some loon supports that statement, i'd have jack dunn over balotelli or markovi or lambert right now.

Agree2 Disagree1

Jack Dunn is an excellent player. I personally think Jerome Sinclair will be the better player eventually but perhaps Rodgers has deemed him not ready. I was only saying yesterday though that it's about time we turned to our academy. Hopefully Rodgers is about to do that in Dunn.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Nov 2014 07:43:39
Of Ojo, Wilson, Kent, Rossiter and Jones, only one plays in the same position as Dunn. So you've probably answered your own question really.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dunn was already training with the first team prior to his injury.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Not going to happen Chris.}

Agree0 Disagree0

As a defensive coach?
ha ha ha ha
We would be well and truly screwed then.
We could become the Liverpool Globetrotters! "sod this defending lark I am bombing on"

Agree1 Disagree0

Liverpool Globe Trotters ?

Keep making it more expensive to go to games and, like the Harlem version, it will come true :-(

Then I might splash out once every 3-5 years on a ticket.

Thats not solely a critisicm of LFC, but of the state of affairs with most of the clubs

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Nov 2014 18:03:25
I just want to state something to all posters and the eds

I think the football world is a very sad place when Rodgers position is being questioned

I think that because we grossly overachieved last year we have got high expectations of this season. First of all, let me say that we have been without the very of the side in the sas for the season so far and this has made our playing style completely different. Our defence has not settled yet and we haven't got the goals yet to help us out.

Going on the signings, only really lovrrn Moreno lallana
And balotelli I would consider first team and, even then, they need a year to settle.

Last season, by Christmas we were fifth having drawn 4 times and lost 5 times. Looking at the fixtures coming up, we won't be far from the same point this Christmas.

Our second half performance last season got us to were we were and it just clicked into place. I think it's grossly unfair to criticise him, he had to strengthen. When you are faced with having to buy 6-7 players then even the best managers in the world won't get all of them to work straight away, it's impossible

But Rodgers couldn't do anything else, we needed a left back right back centre back centre midfield attacking midfield striker winger etc. So there wasn't anything else he couldn't of done

The only thing I would say is the signings have been made with a view of re sale. The players we have bought could easily be re sold at profit or break even providing they aren't a disaster.

If we had qualified for cl last year by a scrape then we wouldn't be having these conversations and just lamenting the fact suarez had gone and Sturridge was out injured

I think that we will be a completely different side once Sturbridge is back, I will then assess Balotelli once he plays with him and if it doesn't work then we need to it a striker which fits our high intensity model which by the way does not work with one up top.

But who else was out there to buy at the time? I couldn't think of anyone. And even if Balotelli does get sold then we aren't losing out on him . It was a gamble which may not pay off and I think it's entirely unfair to criticise Rodgers for it. Especially when he has made some excellent signings and had us playing exceptional football which only works if we have the right players.

Granted he might need to change things around. But with lambert borini and Balotelli we haven't really got anything ping forward, balotelli doesn't have enough of the ball, borini can't score and lambert has known back problems and I seen as an impact player.

Let's give the team a fair assessment once Sturridge is back playing up top with Balotelli then I think we can look at it in more detail. I think in January if it doesn't work out I can see Balotelli and borini going and then maybe someone coming in but then who is out there tht will come mid season

The only player I think would be suitable at the time would br higuain but I would like to ask the eds the possibility of this happening?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool need to act responsibly financially going forward or get used to not playing in Europe. Selling Sterling would raise the money for Higuain, or at least much of it.}

What we need is a manager to be honest and except that he needs help in some way shape or form. but rogers is so ignorrant he won't let that happen. so we have to stick with him till fsg say enough is enough or rogers walks away.

Agree4 Disagree0

Who else was there to buy? Loads of players, Balotelli certainly wasn't the only striker in world football.

We lose Suarez, everyone on the planet knows Sturridge is pretty well injury prone, so we punt on a mediocre striker who is incapable of apparently playing on his own. Makes perfect sense.

Agree2 Disagree0

RDL, I`m not trying to b smart or funny. What players would you have proposed and while you do that, keep in mind that whateva player that is, HAS to want to come to us? Awaiting your response.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have pushed for Jackson Martinez instead of Balotelli and Markovic.

If that didn't work out for some reason, then Son, Lacazette, and Okazaki would have been my next 3 targets. After those, Immobile (before he went to BVB), Volland, Gignac (on a free this summer I think), Huntelaar (also on a free), and perhaps Icardi or Bacca.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Nov 2014 01:48:32
Look, Redohio. We cannot list off names because we are not in a position to have contact with player's, player's agents, other clubs, scout data etc.

But if you honestly think Balotelli was the only striker available this summer then you are deluded.

Without opening up a whole new debate, the club knew a long time ago Suarez was on the way out. They had AGES to look for a replacement and instead managed to **** it up again and bought someone last minute.

Agree1 Disagree0

Son and Lacazette would have made much more sense. 2 talented pacy players in their early twenties and scoring goals for fun, would have been a treat to see these two banging them in at Anfield. Instead BR and his cronies brought in 2 forwards with no pace whatsoever, one who is selfish and the other with back problems and on his last legs. No wonder the club is sruggling.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the original poster in some repects but £20 million for Markovic and according to the OP he is not even for this season but for the future.
What a waste.
We don't need future players, that is what the academy is for. supposedly.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Nov 2014 05:45:57
Ed002, in your opinion do you think Liverpool could of afforded not to strengthen and invest as much as they did in the summer. If they didn't then wouldn't they leave themselves short and therefore make us weak on all fronts. Granted that still may happen because of the quality of signings and them not performing, but it was a risk that needed to be took?

Also, regrading higuain, would the sale of Balotelli and borini not go some way to paying for him ?

Either that Ed002 or we look to someone else?

Problem we have is that world re known players which are 30-35 million players aren't willing to come to us at present. So even though we are in the champions league, we don't have the clout that others have.

What would you have done different ed in the summer given the same set of circumstances. I get the impression sometimes that people on here wait for it to happen before slating the manager and the club. In the summer the signings weren't condemned? Also, signings take a long time to settle, some of them can adapt quite quickly.

Problem Liverpool have is they have brought creative players, but they are creating chances for a non existent stoke force? It's so blatantly obvious at the moment. In order to adopt our system of having two strikers, We need at least 3 which can run behind, and lead the line effectively to suit the system.

I think Rodgers has bought Balotelli hoping he can for the system but it isn't working. Does Rodgers change his style to suit one player or make the one player work to our system or get rid

It's a difficult one but I don't think Brendan has done much wrong I think he is only guilty of over exceeding expectations which has created unrealistic and typical hyped enthusiasm of winning the league etc.

Let us not forget these two things:

1. At the beginning of the season against Tottenham with sturridge fit we were as good as we were last year so let's wait and see

2. This time last year we wre in exactly the same position as we are now but the difference is our expectations were lower. If anything this season is worse for us because we have so many new players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool's spending in recent windows has been awful and this summer the worst. The money has been wasted in many cases. Balotelli and Borini if sold would raise nothing like the £35M or whatever Higuain would cost. And would Higuain replace Sturridge or would Liverpool adapt to play both? I have explained before what might have been a better approach this past summer - such as not buying Lambert, Markovic and Balotelli and spending the money on Pedro and Huntelaar - who would have made a big difference in Europe. I would then have taken the remainder of the money and put it toward the mounting debt - and that includes the outrageous fees paid to one particular agent.}

The names you listed RDL are all worth a punt HOWEVER, Lacazette didn`t want to leave and Martinez is fine at Porto and his release clause is just stupid money. The others are ok BUT maybe there was no interest on either side. Balo was availabe at a decent price which is why he`s here. A lot goes into transfers hence, I don`t list names because it makes no difference because a lot of factors are considered when embarking on bringing a player in.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, redohio, it's just a random list of names really and I have no idea if any of them would have moved, how much they would have cost, or whether there was any interest at all from any parties. Broader point is relevant though and that is Mario is just a poor fit for our team in many ways and it is impossible for me to believe that a team of highly paid professionals couldn't see that or come up with any better solutions. A lot of money was spent and in my opinion none of the problems have been sorted.

Oh dear it says on Twitter there will be a plane fly over anfield for the Chelsea match with a Rodgers out banner. maybe we should steal some other brilliant Man Utd fan ideas, how about yellow and green scarfs or something stupid like that?

Believable9 Unbelievable2

I think we should let the club charge 3x the amount a ticket than normal for the next 4 years, and come back and challenge with an inflated bank account at the supporters expense

Just wanted to point something out. Joao Carlos Teixeira is doing quite well on loan. But what happens to him next season? I'm not trying to say he'll be a world beater by the time he returns but doesn't he deserve a chance to show he's up to playing for LFC. As it seems at the moment there looks to be no place for him what so ever in the squad and he's probably going to end up like Suso. So here's my issue : why send so many promising youngsters on loan if there is no clear plan for them. The entire set of players including the youth players seem to be being mis-managed at the moment and that is my biggest issue with the management (not just Rodgers)

Believable1 Unbelievable1

03 Nov 2014 16:57:36
Is there no clear plan or is it just private? For all we know everyone out on loan is planned for and watched and looked after! Just because we haven't left a massive big gaping hole in the first 11 for him doesn't mean there isn't a plan

Agree3 Disagree1

Let's be honest though, ever since the days of Mcmanaman, Fowler, Carra and Stevie G our academy has been mismanaged.

Steve Heighway, why was he booted?

Agree1 Disagree2

Highway only wanted scousers in the youth teams and Rafa wanted to modernise and bring in the best talent from around the world which we are sort of bearing the fruits of now

Agree3 Disagree1

Sorry but Heighway would have produced many more capable youngsters than what we have since Steven Gerrard.

Times have changed but there is just no way our current youth setup is going to produce another Fowler. The bootroom left when Roy Evan was given his marching orders. David Moores left us to dry.

Agree0 Disagree3

It was under heighway that we produced nobody after Gerrard and since replacing him we've had 5 or 6 players through who although not a Liverpool will make decent careers for themselves unlike those produced by the previous people

Agree2 Disagree2

Those 5 or 6 players were they sources from the outside our brought from youth level?

Even Martin Kelly was a product of Steve Heighway.

Its obvious that things are not right at the moment both on and off the field. But getting things right on the field would be a big step in the right direction. I would personally suggest

Steve Clarke - Defence Coach
Xavi Valero - GK Coach
Roy Makaay - Attack Coach

Allow BR to coach the technical side but as a head coach role not manager role.

Steve Peters - Working on the mental side of things.

Then bring in a D.O.F who is good in the transfer market, Although I have no idea who.

What do any Eds or Reds think, Would that be a good thing or am I way off.

Cheers guys.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

Armchair fan

this is the sort of structure successful clubs have.

I think I'm right in stating Fergie hardly did any coaching but got excellent staff round him - IMO this set up is the way forward

with the addition of a "press coach" for BR.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - What Armchair Fan is proposing is exactly what is not required. Random names including one of someone who was sacked by the club is not the way forward.}

The manager has stated there will be no defense coach coming in so you can be sure there will be no attack or keeper coach either.
This is the problem, the manager won't change.

Agree2 Disagree1

You can bring one person to hold the wheel, another to change the gear, a third to push the brake peddal and a fourth to operate the blinker, or you can just replace the driver with someone who knows how to drive without help.

Agree1 Disagree0

All these coaches specializing in certain areas is nonsense to some extent, IMO. This is not the NFL where there are 53 players and 6-7 different parts of the game that need specialized coaching. The club has a coaching staff who should specialize in these areas. If they can`t get it done, they should be sacked

{Ed002's Note - What Armchair Fan is proposing is exactly what is not required. Random names including one of someone who was sacked by the club is not the way forward.}

Ed its not random names. I thought of steve Clarke because of his proven track record at organising defences at both Liverpool and Chelsea which is not a bad thing to have for you. Xavi Valero because of the success he has had in the past with Liverpool at improving our GK performances. Roy Makaay because he is yet to fail at getting a striker to score lots of gaols since becoming a coach at Feyenoord including Pelle (soton) Guidetti, and now kazim Richards. Steve Peters last year seemed to bring out confidence in players.

I am not saying I am right, Just they are not random names but my choices.

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - What you are proposing is not the answer at all and these are nothing but random names including Steve Clarke was sacked by Liverpool at the behest of Rodgers. They will get the finger from him which will be embarrassing. Valero went from Liverpool and is back with Benitez. Re-instate Benitez as manager and perhaps he will come. Pure fantasy.}

The problem with Brendan is that he has had to change the system to accommodate many of his purchases. The starting XI has not been based on merit this season, but by price tags. Balotelli may not even make the bench if BR was not under pressure to justify his purchases. The diamond with the two up top worked well for us, but we only have two "big" name strikers, one of which is injured. So we revert to the previously unsuccessful 4-3-3, so players like Markovic, Sterling, Lallana, Coutinho can all rotate. When put under media pressure after the last Madrid game, he reverted back to the diamond system, but attempted to accommodate a returning Allen and Can into the condensed midfield. Yes BR may have wasted the money, but isn't the squad too big now, after last seasons problem of having a thin squad. Players from the academy should make up some of the bench. We shouldn't have a situation whereby a £20 million signing in Markovic does not even make the bench in his first season.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

In what shape or form have we played 4-3-3 this season other than the match vs Man City?

Vs Newcastle we played 3-2-4-1.

Rodgers needs his head seen to. Keeps on playing Balotelli up on his own and expecting Suarez like results. Sticks with Lovren and Skrtel when they clearly cannot spell communication between each other.

Ghastly football is going to get ghastly results. It has been all talk and no show this season.

To use the new signings as an excuse for our rubbish season so far does not do it for me.

Get Rodgers some bloody spectacles please.

At this point in time, nearly all of a typical starting 11 are Rodgers signings, bar Henderson and Gerrard, and to a lesser extent Lucas and Johnson. He wanted them, he got them, bit tired of the moaning about 'needing time' and how injuries have been an issue. It's largely your team BR, get on with it and show us why you bought the players you've bought. Surely there was a method to the madness, no?

Hi Eds and reds,

I don't post often but frustration has forced me to on this occasion.

I'm not in the BR out campaign by any means, I am also not in the everything is rosy camp, just give him time.

I believe BR can be a good manager, if he gets over his ego that the media and us fans built for him last year. If you look at the comments on here throughout the summer, fans were naming pretty much every problem player and saying to buy them on the cheap because BR's man management skills will bring them around and make them world class.

I think BR's main problem is he has started to believe his own hype. The majority of the players we have brought in, realistically on paper are good players. Were they needed or not was another thing. I'm not going to single players out for criticism but a lot of the players we have brought in are at the expense of people with either the same current level of skill of the same potential as the new players.

Brendan has complete control over his future at the moment and many will believe even at this early stage he is lucky to do so. It is him that must see that the football he is now playing is not good enough. We are slow, clumsy and worst of all, predictable. He still has the chance to rectify that by changing the style that so obviously isn't working for us. If he fails to take that chance whilst it is in his hands then unfortunately he deserves everything that is coming to him.

If results were still going against us but I could see him implementing changes to try to get the team playing nice football again then that would be something, but he just seems to have gone backwards and seems clueless as to how to fix it.

Everyone saying we don't have the players to compete are in my opinion, wrong as I do believe we have the team and squad to cement top 4, but the tactics have to be right. At the moment, they are a long way away from being right.

I also do not think any supporter around the world would deem BR to be a failure if he did admit he was wrong and he needed the assistance he has refused to work with previously. You're human BR, you will make mistakes, it's what you learn from them which will make you a success or not.

I will finish this with a famous Einstein quote which BR should really pay attention to:
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Ed002, penny for your thoughts on LFC, BR and pressure?

Believable8 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - I don't see anything that has changed right now. As I previously explained, I think he needs help in terms of an experienced general manager or director of football. I would look to have someone come in overseeing the footballing side of the club, I would have the coaching side independently assessed and changed as necessary, I would look at the way transfers are carried out, I would have someone work the man management side including talking to all of the loanees about their future. Anyone not committed to the club for whatever reason (and I suspect Rodgers has created a number of them) should be moved on as soon as possible. The gaps should be assessed, minimum changes should be made, the playing side settled and moved on. Rodgers has previously said he will not work within such a set up and he needs to step back over that position and accept help. Yes again the money was not spent well this summer, and this time the sums were vast.

The money will not be there to keep rebuilding, the debt is significant, FFP has been abused, the debt will increase, Champions League winnings will be withheld. Rodgers has to get the results on the field - it is not happening so we need to see some help. If that is not welcome or the situation is too far gone then Rodgers' position needs to be considered. Talking to the press about being relaxed about results because he knows the team are going to perform in the latter half of the season will not be what the owners want. The answer is not to get a couple of old players in to help out.

From the outside it looks a mess. Rodgers has to stop with repeatedly talking with the press - but I have said before, he is always good for a statement and the press will feed off that. He has given several statements to the press about Balotelli ranging from him not ever being good enough to Liverpool to him being the world beater who can play in numerous positions. He spoke about the swapping of shirts and not being the Liverpool way - did Coutinho and Can get castigated for the same thing? What is Gerrard doing discussing next season? What is Rodgers doing adding fuel to the fire. This is going to be a tough week with two games that Liverpool could potentially lose.

I don't know what is happening internally right now, but the owners will not be as relaxed as Rodgers about this further year of transition.}

So Champions League monwy will definately be witheld ed? That is a kick in the nuts!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - As I said, in the first place someone to come in with a remit to evaluate how the club is operating on a day-to-day basis (training, man management, transfers) and on the basis of the results of that changes to be made.}

FSG should just hire a DoF if they find a suitable candidate. If Rodgers's doesn't like it he can walk. He has to earn the right to be making calls himself on not wanting a DoF at the club. All the other top European sides have one bar maybe Arsenal? So what makes him special enough to call all the shots?

Agree2 Disagree1

I would instantly drop Mingolet, Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren, Gerrard and Balotelli.
I'd start Jerome Sinclair. We were unplayable last season because we had 3 attackers who constantly were moving and interchanging. Lambert looks to have regressed under Rodgers though, Balotelli is not intelligent enough in his movement and Sturridge is injured. Borini fits the mould. He's not world class, but he'll do what is required. If you played this team not only will we get some leadership back in the centre of our defence (and a keeper in goal not afraid to command his area regardless of whether or not he's good enough) you'll instantly see less goals conceded especially with a proper holding midfielder shielding the back 4. Coutinho needs to play where he did last season so he can run the game, and Henderson needs to be allowed the freeedom to make his lung bursting runs that make space for the forwards! With Sinlcair and Borini pulling defenders all over the place it will create space for Sterling to run into and hopefully we will start to see the best of him again at the tip of that Diamond.

No chance of any of that happening though because A) Rodgers will persist with this formation until he is proven right or sacked B) He has no faith in the academy otherwise I'd be able to put Ibe up front with Borini! C) He is too desperate to justify his summer signings (virtually none of whom (Moreno excluded) were necessary or the right fits.

But yeah, long story short, I'd do what Liverpool managers have historically suceeded in and give a young striker from the academy a go until Sturridge can come back into the side. I just wish Ibe was here to do just that. His direct style, pace, movement and link up play is exactly what we're missing and sadly Markovic has that abiltiy but looks bloody terrified of using it.

Invent a time machine and go back and respend the quarter billion pounds differently. Baring that, I'd do the following:

- Tell the CBs to stop splitting so wide.

- Tell the FBs to stop pushing up so high.

- Move Gerrard or whoever is in that role 5-10m up the pitch.

- Give the CMs license to go forward.

- Practice winning headers since we're abysmal at it all over the pitch.

- Stop playing Balotelli on his own.

- Don't put Raheem wide right anymore (he's very one footed and offers little out there).

- Tell the defense sometimes it's okay to just clear the ball.

- Finally, play Lucas as a CDM, not Gerrard. Partner Sterling with Balotelli up top until Sturridge is back as he's the most similar player to Sturridge of what we have available. Get Can in next to Henderson as we need his height/size in midfield. Start Lallana behind the forwards.

Agree4 Disagree0

03 Nov 2014 18:09:39
1) I'd start by making a clear decision on how we're going to play. Right now it seems to me that we're aiming for a compromise between the direct play that led to our late run last year and the safer, more measured possession based game that we used before that and getting the worst of both systems: Slow play with no real attempt to stretch the opposition defence, but frequently a lack of short options when the CBs and DM want to bring the ball out. I'd pick one approach or the other and run with it. I'd probably opt for the latter, because the former requires a level of confidence and mental & physical energy that our players don't have atm.

2) I'd restore Lucas to the side because he's our only DM who can defend in a manner that even approaches being competent. I'd consider dropping Skrtel because I think he's too slow and has nothing up his sleeve when he can't bully an opposition forward, even though this would mean Toure playing until Sakho is back. I'd leave in Mignolet because Jones is worse, and until Flanno is back, I'd leave Jonno in the team too. I'd sit down and have a long think about whether to persist with Balotelli up front until Sturridge is back. I'd have to have a similarly long think how best to use Gerrard. He shouldn't be picked as a DM or a box to box, and even though I don't want to drop him out entirely, because I think his form would pick up if he was played further forward, I can't really say he's in better form, and thus more deserving of a place, than Sterling, Coutinho and Lallana.

3) What decisions I'd make with Balotelli & Gerrard would likely dictate the formation. I wouldn't see myself using two strikers because we quite simply don't have two strikers who deserve to be picked ahead of the likes of Coutinho and Lallana who'd miss out as a result.

4) I'd up the set piece drills considerably, and look at getting a specialised defensive coach.

5) I'd ask the club to review John Achterberg's position.

Thoughts for this week, I have never dreaded a champions league game like I am dreading Real away, we can only hope its not a total embarrassment. Is Balo damaging Sterling's confidence ? because the start of the season he was playing really well with Sturridge and now I wouldn't back him from 10 yards. On the TV coverage it seems he is getting verbal from Balo most matches. If it didn't affect our chance to sell him I would be more than happy never to see Ballatelli in a Liverpool shirt again.

Hi to all the EDS and fellow REDS

What is this talk of over achieving last season? We came second because we played teams off the park and tore them apart with our pace and hard work. We achieved because we worked hard. Not because teams around us didn't play well etc. Look at the table this season. If we had got our act together in a couple of matches we'd be second (2nd) in the table again. Would we have over-achieved this season too?
So, we did not over-achieve. What the hell is over achieving, anyway? Do teams let you win because they like you? Or they think you're not going to win the league anyway? We had a great season but threw it away with naivety and 'bad' management. No two ways about it. Should have drawn with Chelsea. They park the bus? Ok, let us park one too? Let us be prepared to win ugly too. To be winners, not Mr nice guys, WINNERS. Win the two and there it was. No wonder Hanson was so so disappointed. Anyway, water under bridge, let's move on.
We still have a chance to do something this year if we get Sturridge back fit and ready to go AND to get another striker in case of such emergencies. My mind blows when I think of the Loic Remy deal. Which genius thought that one out? What a question!

In my opinion the reason for our bad bad start to the season is our bad bad transfers. Brendan talks about buying class and quality that would have an instant effect on the team, then goes and buys more youngsters for the future. I think he is totally confused as to his best team and disappointed by how transfers have turned out. Why not play Borini and if not, then why didn't we get another striker and and and. questions, questions and more questions. Too frustrating a situation to be honest and to think we are just a few points off third place makes it more frustrating still.
But, Reds fans, stop this stupid nonsense about sacking Brendan! He must be given this season and if he is still there in the summer CHANGE THE TRANSFER TEAM!!

Have faith in the team.

YNWA

{Ed001's Note - why must he be given this season? You do realise he is involved in the transfer committee too right?}

So in the real world this next week:

Madrid away:

Close to zero chance of any kind of positive result, i would bite their hands off if they offered anything kinder than a drubbing.

Chelsea at home:

We have struggled to break down mid table teams, low placed teams and we fluked ludogorets, pitting that against the most formidable defence in the league, we aren't looking likely to score at all.

Plus i expect Costa to be back for Chelsea, who must be rubbing his hands for this game. I'd play Sakho if fit because he has the strength to deal with him as shown in FRA vs SPA.

Rodgers job:

A couple of drubbings could well see the end of Rodgers time, the owners are money men, there is no sentiment in business.

By next Saturday we could well see ourselves nearly out of the CL and in the bottom half of the PL.

Klopp would be my man to replace BR, proven record at champions league and domestic level, only struggling this year due to having to sell his best player for a miserly fee and not having the funds to replace him.

Hopefully he could pack Reus into his suitcase and bring him along, we could certainly do with some German efficiency at the moment

Believable17 Unbelievable4

We can lose to Madrid, win the rest of our group games and still qualify. Let us play Chelsea before writing the boys off so quickly.
And, what makes you think Klop is going to come to us? There will be a scramble for this services so why us?
Constructive criticism is one thing, but negativity and writing our manager off, bearing in mind our injuries etc is just plain DUMB!!

Agree2 Disagree9

03 Nov 2014 11:21:31
Blind faith from the rose tinted glasses parade was expected, We lose to Madrid is a given, but expecting us to beat Basel at home and Ludogorets away is more stupidity from Teds army.

We couldn't create a decent chance vs newcastle, so do excuse me if believing we won't score against the best defence in the league is unjust.

Klopp would come to us because there are no other "top jobs" available at the moment and i expect he is rather determined to jump ship before he starts to come under fire for Dortmunds stuttering this season .

Realism is what i possess, blind faith in backing a manager who continually proves he is incapable, claiming our woes are due to injuries despite the fact we just spent over 100 million on ten players is more your end

Agree8 Disagree2

I tend to agree with you JLP red. In fact, you're nearly spot on.

The best defence in the league is technically Southampton. They have conceded just 5 goals in 10 games. One thing I would like to point out though is that we scored 2 of those in a single game playing absolutely awful.

I know that doesn't mean that we will score against Chelsea, but I think it's very naive to suggest that just because we couldn't score against Newcastle, we won't score against Chelsea. QPR lost 4-0 to Man United then went and gave Chelsea one hell of a game. Hell even Shrewsbury only lost 2-1 because of an own goal.

I'm not at all optimistic, but i don't think we should write the lads off based on some clever stat spinning about defences. I have to agree with you on the whole though. We're on a downward spiral.

Agree2 Disagree1

So we should just give up?
Because everyone says the world is too tough.
Should we take our ball home as well?
Listen, a blind man can see that we have problems.
Rodgers neck is on the line. It's obvious.
But we have not reached DEFCON HODGSON just yet.
And I would think that most fans would be willing to give Rodgers the next 6 games at least to try and turn it around.
If he can't then he will go.
Until that point I am backing the manger and the team to turn it round.
If that makes me rose tinted or a Brendanite or whatever then so be it.
I can't accept or understand the ease at which people want to dispense with the manager who did so much for us last year.
Are we not being a bit fickle?

Not really. Money men take one look at European football, and walk away. That's what Kraft (Patriots owner) did. It makes little economic sense; there are better ways to try to make money.

FSG have made no money from LFC.

Top level football today is basically a billionaire's plaything.

FSG are in it because they are risk-takers and highly competitive people who love sports, and want to win.

If they fire Rodgers (and if things don't improve quickly, they will) it will be because we are losing too many football matches. Simple as that.

How to get out of this.

. Answer is I don't think we can.
When good, top teams struggle, they usually have 1 or 2 players who drive performances up.
I hate to use them as an example but:
G. Neville, Keane, Scholes for United
Adams, Keown, Vieira for Arsenal
Terry, Cole, Lampard for Chelsea

These aren't necessarily all players who would change a game but they are players who would not accept anything less than the highest standards of effort and commitment.

We haven't got any players of this ilk

Who stands around tearing shreds and letting players know its not good enough?

Who shouts and balls and get people in tight into good shape defensively?

Who rockets a player who needlessly gives the ball away in the middle third?

We appear to have gone too far down the "nice" footballer road and lack real football characters - I guess players we have are easier to manage?.

Its something we miss, something we missed on the run-in last season and something we need right now but haven't got.

Until we add some real mental steel to our side we could be on a long turnaround time.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Not Gerrard then?

I would say the players you listed where probably easier to manage than our team, as they wouldn't need to be told to put in maximum effort, you would always get it anyway. POSITIVITY:

Waro, take note:

It seems I'm a bit long in the tooth compared to many of my fellow posters, but I still remember the 1985/6 season. I was still at school, but I just remember it. It was probably my first REAL season as a football fan. We'd suffered as a club, the previous season ended with real disaster at Heysel. Our brilliant manager had walked out, the club's reputation had been tainted, we were banned from Europe, things were not going according to plan.
Then along came a young inexperienced player manager in the form of Mr Kenny Dalglish. Lots of questions were being asked, how come one of the premier teams of Europe had appointed a player to manage the team. Imagine it now, it's like Bayern appointing Ribery as player manager!
We all know King Kenny went on to win the league and FA cup double in his first season.
BUT at the end of October 1985 Man Utd had taken 34 points from 36 and Liverpool were 10 points behind.
The parallels are obvious, so come on, get behind the club and let's stop all this manager sacking talk. There are a lot of games left.

COYR.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - they are not at all obvious, that is ludicrous. Kenny was in his first season, Rodgers is in his 3rd. There is no comparison between the 2 at all.}

I have to agree with 01 here Ken. I love your positivity, but I see more parallels here with Man United under Moyes. Moyes came in and shunned Fergies old age tradition of introducing youngsters gradually alongside experience whilst trying to completely change their winger reliant style to a more pass and move style. All of this whilst Rooney was over weight and out of form and Van Persie was out of form and really suffering from injuries.

Now we have Rodhers who has completely shunned his own philosophy of utilising the acadeny, is trying to completely change his high pressing Diamond formation and all whilst we have lost Suarez to Barca and Sturridge to injury.

Lack of utilisation of youth, change in style, missing our two best strikers. The resemblance for me is uncanny. If things don't change, it will be an embarassing season.

On the flip side, Kenny took over a winning mentality team. European Cup finalists the season before and a treble? the season.before that with a lot of the players still there. He also had the great man beside him. Rodgers has taken over a team no where near winning a League or Champions League and in all honesty should not be ahead of Chelsea, City or Utd in my opinion. It can't be easy i guess! Was last years 2nd place a fluke? It certainly looks like it at the minute.

To be fair to Brendan dalglish had better players rush himself up front HANSEN lawrenson at the back molby Whelan in midfield we done the double that year league title won with a goal from dalglish himself at Stamford bridge and cup lifted with 3-1 defeat of r main rivals bk then Everton, how spoiled were we then.

Agree0 Disagree0

The worst part about Brendan is that he over hauled his own system which worked so well for us in the last 18 months just so that he could revert back to his original blueprint which did not work out the first time and was never likely to now either. No manager with a sane mind does that, not even Woy or Moyes would do that.

Irish Rover.

love that reply. Whilst I was drawn into the excitement of last season and the thought we may actually win the Prem I kept on telling mates and colleagues that I feared for this season

We massively, massively over-achieved last season - yes disappointing to be that close and a slip by a legend put the pressure on us but going into last season I had little expectation of coming 4th, never mind competing for the title!

we are now suffering for that - just as Chelsea did last season when they should have been flying but weren't - we have introduced loads of new players in order to cope with the rigours of additional games and due to policy of re-sale lots do not have CL experience.

I am frustrated by the way we seem to have gone back to our keep-ball mentality but to bump off BR at this stage of his career would be ludicrous - perhaps we will have an FA Cup tie and Borini will pop up with a late winner and then who knows? (Robins and Fergie anyone old enough to remember?)

However, the decision could be made by FSG - Rodgers does not help himself with his promises or his expressed desire to manage in Spain - players get criticised for a lack of loyalty when they say they love to play somewhere eels so the same should apply to managers.

The end of this week could see BR on the edge of a cliff where his LFC career is concerned - he just needs to keep his head down and stop making crass comments to the press, I still believe he is the way forward for a club but like players, he has to grow into the role too and, however disappointed we are right now - he has to be given the time to do so.

When your transfers and tactics make no sense to anyone but you and they pay off your a genius who operates at a different level but when they don't your quickly proven to be out of your league.
All managers are judged by their results and if your going to be a bit strange in what you do your results have to be good to survive for long

Agree0 Disagree0

Correct me if i'm mistaken, but didn't Rodgers play Balotelli and Sturridge up front the only time that they were available, against Spurs.

Plus, there were games last season, especially away from home, when either one of Suarez or Sturridge played out wide. Wait until he's got his full strike force back and see what formation he plays then.

Ken, I remember that season well too, different times, different types of fans these days i'm afraid mate.

Agree2 Disagree0

Blood thirsty fans Walton red.

Agree2 Disagree0

Ken those were different times, we were one of the top teams in the world and top players would join us with out thinking.
Financially we competed with any team in the league.
In the 70/80's we were a bit like real madrid we added 2 players a year and hardly made mistakes in the transfer market.
Hansen/lawrence/nicol/neil/molby/rush/daglish all top top class players 85 season. And the following 2 seasons we added aldridge/barnes/houghton/beardsley there is the answer to our past succes.
Our transfers were all top players.

Best thing about 1985 was my birth :)

Agree1 Disagree1

With all due respect Ken, just because something happened like that in '85 doesn't mean it has any chance greater than anything else of happening now.

FSG are business men and they won't be fooled over by romanticizing or any sweet talking. If BR is good enough as a manager, he will turn it around. But now, whatever way it is going to go, questions will be rightly asked of him and his policies.

Agree1 Disagree0

Vrl
Our transfers were certainly not top players. They all came from lesser clubs than Liverpool. I would say they were the right choices made into top players by Liverpool. In those days when you left Lfc the only way was down. Sadly now that is not the case.

Haha I love the way someone clicked agree to my post then.

We wouldn't be in this position if Sturridge was in the team

Believable4 Unbelievable3

We wouldn't be in this position if the club had spent the money more wisely and Rodgers hadn't abandoned everything tactical that was successful last year.

If we lose on Tuesday night and next weekend I would not be suprised to see heads starting to roll. Maybe not Rodgers head straight awaybut the owners must be getting annoyed by this. I certainly would be if it was my money on the line. As a fan I hope Rodgers fixes this, but my business head says he's running out of time.

You can all give the Editors stick for saying Rodgers is pushing his luck, but at the end of the day, I haven't seen us this bad since pre-Rafa (and yes I can remember the Hodgson days! At least he could win a game in Europe).

Rodgers, everyone wants to believe in you. Now make us dream again, please.

We would be in the exact same position had Suarez stayed though. Although he'd be back now,,, and he'd be dragging the name of the club through the dirt,,, oh aswel as probably going onto score 30 goals in the league and push for another title challenge. We'd go to Real Madrid with a 'chance'.
But The season was over in the transfer window,, and now the clubs name isn't being dragged through the mud. No instead it sits 7th in the league facing 4 loses in a row and everyone's questioning the manager, facing another 4 years of transition

Agree3 Disagree0

Hodgson and kenny had us worse of my friend its early days if he doesn't turn it around he won't be hear if he does he deserves to be hear its a win win in that respect one way or another these owners will make a call to benefit the club so we just support the team manager true the hard times

Agree1 Disagree0

Even in good firm I would not expect us to get anything from the Bernabeu.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are playing awfully at the moment, looking like a team that is fighting relegtion rather than title challenging, BUT, 3 points off top 4. little perspective needed I think!

Agree0 Disagree0

Pinning all your hopes on 1 man even after the manager spends over £200 million in 2 and half years?

Makes his Transfer dealings look even more juvenile and puts extreme pressure on Sturridge. It was only a couple of months ago that BR was pinning his hopes on Sterling, and now the lad has hit a poor patch of form.

Agree0 Disagree1

We're also 3 points off 14th and 6 points off the relegation zone. The table means naught at the moment although there is a fairly good chance of us ending up in the wrong half of it at the end of the weekend.

Agree0 Disagree1

Have to agree with AG on this. We've known Suarez wanted out for years and it should have also been pretty obvious Sturridge, as great as he is, is a bit on the fragile side. So why we went and bought an average striker who can't play on his own is well beyond me.

What I am reading since our disastrous performance against Newcastle is that BR signings are not good. I think not all the new players are bad signings. Markovich, Can and Lallana for me should be given game time to prove themselves. However, we should not have bought Balotelli and Lovren. Both are awful players, they have done very little in the last games to be given a start. They should be benched ASAP and start our future games with Borini and Sakho(if fit) or Toure. Our main problem in the recent games was our midfield. For me Allen, Henderson and Gerard are not performing to their best and BR should start every game with Coutinho and Can.

its really sad to see us play in a listless manner. once again the cycle is repeating. I don't understand why we completely changed our game style where each player is clueless, without any coordination.

How are we so good in buying bad and unsuitable players in the market?

why is rodgers so stubborn to give chance to people and rectify the faults?

THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST CLUBS IN THE WORLD.
WE ARE AS CAPABLE AS CAPABLE AS REAL MADRID, BUT EACH YEAR WE KEEP ON REBUILDING.

when will we start winning the EPL and dominate the Europe.

and few questions
1. why manquillo over wisdom?
2. why didn't we buy new goalkeeper?
3. why there is no defensive midfielder to do the dirty work?
4. why does balotelli moves around the pitch like zombies. in first place why did we buy him?

I hope we can sort out things quickly start competing and challenging things.

If it were Mourinho or someone of that ilk it would be bad enough but when the likes Alan Pardew and Sam Allardyce can blatantly claim they know how you are going to play, what are your weaknesses and how to outfox you before the match has even started, and you still play the same way and to add insult to the injury get outfoxed then you have to assume something is very wrong and things need to change quickly. If you cannot correct something that even the opposition dare to point out publicly then you are not good enough. We all know what happens when idealism is taken too far.

i'm a season ticket holder and also go to most away games. have been a supporter of br but starting to lose faith. we have moved backwards. br is good manager but is no good in transfer market and has no experience of the next level he needs to take liverpool back to. sounds odd but we need flanno back as well as sturridge then br should be playing youngsters (many on loan). jordan ibe, wisdom and some of the youth team players. i am frustrated not just by recent results & performances but by br blinkered post match comments - can he be that naive? if so would LOVE to see ronald koeman at the helm. people need to get off balotelli's back - it is the whole team & system that is not working not just him. YNWA

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Koeman won't leave Southampton the way they're playing.

Jurgen Klinsmann, Franck De Boer, Jurgen Klopp or Marco Biesla (sorry for spelling). Having said that, what are the odds on any of them leaving their teams?!

We are probably better off sticking with Rodgers at this point. The only decent and available manager is Tony Pulis and my god, is that the kind of football we want? Let's just hope Rodgers starts getting things right for now.

Agree1 Disagree2

With our team and Pulis we probably could win the league. at least we shld try him for Defensive coach.
and please don't tell he wld never come and be a defensive coach. throw lots of money incentive based hopefully. he wld be worth it that's for sure. Get Pulis get steve clarke anybody. just get a Def Coach if not just fire rodgers save us the embarassment

Agree0 Disagree1

Pulis would at least organise our defence and stop the rot. I can't see where our next point is going to come from the way we're playing.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Tony Pulis is the standard, might as well stick w/ BR until we get a true upgrade.

Nothing much to complain about after the defeat but one thing, why the hell is BR and the coaching staff not able to find out the faults in training/coaching??

Why is everyone acting so stubborn??

The whole team looked tired and leggy. Why the hell Lucas is not given a chance, the lad can be as good as Matic is for Chelsea. He just needs game time.

I honestly feel BR is messing up with the Team.

The results remind me of last days of Rafa.

Ed001, In your opinion, do you believe that we, even with Champions League football, are still
a draw for what would be considered the "Top table" of players around the world?. or are we still struggling to attract the best ?.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it depends on the player. These kind of questions are pointless, you can't generalise about humans as we are all different and want different things.}

hi eds/reds

1st post long time reader!
appologies in advance but i am in the (get rodgers out wagon) i never liked him to me he has no clue what he is doing half the time i know u will say he took us close to glory but i say it wasnt him it was suarez! my opinion.
we have studge to come back and his pressence will hopefully free up balo but i rekon he has till jan to fix up or he's gone.
and finally this keeper if u can call him that is a joke every time he's on the ball or we are defending a set piece my rear end is twitching if i'm nervous how about the players i mean c'mon wtf!

thanks would love eds input and also anyone elses

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - why would I say he took us close to glory? Close is irrelevant, you either win or you don't.}

The problem is this. Rodgers has done a Boas. He has sold Suarez and bought junk. He persists with players that are not performing. Gerrard is finished. It is time to say thank you for your service but your time is up. As a top manager you have to be ruthless. I don't think Rodgers is. Football is not rocket science. Some managers over think the game and make it too complicated.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

I think it is offensive to call the new players junk. yes we bought to many players, yes we should have kept more faith with exsisting or youth players. should expect the new players to gell with time. br has to stand up for team selection and tactics

BR transfers.

Mignolet worse than Reina
Lovren, sakho worse than Agger
Moreno Improvement on Enrique
Manquillo Little difference to Johnson
Can worse than Lucas
Lallana, Markovic made little impact.
Allen worse than Jonjo
Borini, balloteli £25 million oh dear
Lambert don't understand why he was bought in

Sturridge, Coutinho great players.

Ilori, Aspas, Alberto, Assaidi, Wisdom 25million out on loan

Regular first teamers
Gerrard skrtel, Henderson, sterling, Lucas all previous managers players

We Don't really know who has total control over the transfers but it makes poor reading.

Believable5 Unbelievable7

Agree with everything except on the Lucas and Can comparison. Can has a much higher ceiling for improvement and will be a much better player than Lucas in the long run, provided he sticks with LFC.
