Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

03 Mar 2018 21:57:29
Many Liverpool fans say every year ' this is our year' I personally haven't for quite a long time now, even when we've had some great seasons, I tend to let it play out but let me tell you, I'm pretty damn excited about this Liverpool team and I can finally say I genuinely think next season is ours! City will not dominate next season like they have this season, they are slowly but surely been figured out, not much to figure out though in my opinion, attack them and they crumble, sit back and they win, it's as simple as that.

I knew we'd win today, it had a win written all over that game, I was in no way nervous about it now take a step back and think, usually these are the kind of games we WOULD be worried about, many of us wasn't because of the form we are in. Klopp is definitely sending us in the right direction, I am delighted for yet another 3 points. Good luck to Crystal Palace on Monday :)

2nd in the league and I really do think we'll be second at the end of the season, the other teams are nowhere near as consistent as we are.

Win, lose or draw it's always a pleasure to be a Liverpool fan but right now it's really exciting me, we have a lot to look forward to :)

Have a good evening/ Sunday reds!

Salah you, I'm always nervous before any game we play cos well, it's football and for every City type team that we beat which is great, there is a Swansea right around the corner. That is the reality that keeps me cautiously optimistic.

As for where we are as a club and team under Klopp, I fully agree with you. Just imagine or recall where we were when Klopp came to us. We were hustling with Saints and WH who finished above us in 15/ 16 (Yeah, that happened) with City, Utd, Arsenal Spurs and year, Leicester well ahead of us. And look how much has changed in just well, one and a half seasons after that. We are well ahead of Arsenal and Leicester, and neck and neck with Utd, Spurs and Chelsea and oh by the way, we are kicking butt and taking names in the CL.

We have come so far is such a relatively short time that sometimes, I have to pinch myself. I know trophies are important and should always be part of our annual goals BUT to do that, you have to take that first (esp. in our situation when Klopp arrived) in stopping the rot, get it right in the TW, break into that top 4, STAY in it at least and become more consistent and with some luck, the trophies will come. Klopp has succeeded in all of these things and since he is NEVER satisfied, LFC is not done yet making waves. Keep the faith, lads. Red Till I'm Dead!

03 Mar 2018 22:29:54
Brover dint we finish 2nd to city before klopp arrived in 2014 and should have won the league. I'm excited too and think this is the best team and squad I've seen. BUT football is so unpredictable and next year can be so different. Look at Chelsea and conte they looked incredible last year. this year I fully expect them to finish 5th and conte to leave. We need to continue to push forward. Strengthen the team further and keep hold of our stars.

03 Mar 2018 23:03:41
Well said salah. I admit that I was nervous about this game as I will be for every game until we qualify for ucl next year. The swans manager said to beat Liverpool you have to give them the ball. I thought we may be in trouble today and it looked a bit worrying for 40 minutes but the boys are class. Salah Firmino and mane were great but the ox, Karius and Vvd stood out today for me.

I say this every year, EVERY year but I think next year will be out year. Summer recruitment could be key do it is vital we finish top 4, if not we need to win the ucl coz we need to be in that comp.

03 Mar 2018 23:10:05
We are playing brilliantly under Klopp and are unfortunately competing against an exceptional City side. I don't really get how they are getting found out though whilst we are going from strength to strength. They will be just as strong next season if not stronger. We just need to make sure that we don't drop the points we have this season if we want to compete.

04 Mar 2018 01:55:54
For sure Jayden. There is no sly counter attacking formula that is key to city's success. They have great players and play great football. I think even if you saw peps team talk before a game City would still go out and win the game. For me, we are only just a touch behind them if at all. I think we are the best 2 teams in the league, the reason we are so far behind them falls to Southampton. If they had bit the bullet and sold us Vvd in the summer I honestly think we would be way ahead of utd and spurs, maybe not top but not far off it.

04 Mar 2018 02:10:16
I honestly can't feel it yet; "next year is our year". However, I'm definitely excited to see how the team will do next year. Hopefully better. Last night game still gave me the nervous feeling. Some of the players did still gave me that.

I haven't been into a football match watching any teams that I supported. I can't imagine how the nervous feeling would be like. I'm sure it will be much greater than the feeling when watching it live on TV which already makes me jumps and shouts. Yeah I jumped and shouted last night, especially at Can.

04 Mar 2018 02:28:22
SS, I know what you mean, before the game I was fully confident but as the first half was progressing I was getting a little edgy until we scored then I knew it'd be a win, thank god! I think the whole team played pretty well overall, but I do agree with you on Karius, Ox and VVD, especially Ox, absolutely stellar performance from him. He's shocked many people including me, I see him playing a vital part of this team.

Jayden, I'm not disagreeing with you because you make valid points but I personally wouldn't call City exceptional, they've done well this season, other teams never expected it, their attack is amazing, their midfield is as good, but exceptional would be if all of their team was good, problem for them is their defence isn't which is why I'd say they aren't exceptional. Next season I just can't see them doing what they've done this season unless they invest massively in their defence.

Teams are afraid of their attack and rightly so but look at us, we went and attacked them, we didn't sit back waiting for them to break through and score we gave them it as much as they did us and we got the 3 points, we scored against them for fun, we made it look easy really, it was their attack what got us on edge because they are brilliant attacking, defensively not so much. I think if more teams went at them like we did, they would be nowhere near where they are in the league right now.

City will always be up there now, they have it all to be successful but it's not all about how much you spend it's about getting it right and they aren't as complete as some may think, at least not in my opinion they aren't.

I mean for all I know they'll go win the next 3+ premier league titles, but can you see that? I really can't, they'll win it this season obviously but next season imo will be a different story.

04 Mar 2018 08:19:43
Some interesting points there Salah mate but I'd still say City are exceptional. They will end this season with a minimum of a league and cup double ( we throw all kinds of praise at our team and they haven't won a trophy in years) Yes we made their defence look weak but that's because our attacking 3 are above exceptional. For as good as we were that day they were a whisker away from grabbing a draw and they made our defence look terrible also. In the last 7 days city have won a trophy and played some of the best football I have seen this season (bar us) to demolish Arsenal in the league. I think city's biggest and closest rivals are us without a doubt. I can see Chelsea and Utd spending huge this summer and if we strengthen our right areas then next year could undoubtedly be our year, but it won't be from city being found out it will be from us finding another level from our defence to midfield.

04 Mar 2018 09:12:53
I can't argue against your post Jayden mate, great points too.

04 Mar 2018 11:13:32
Love your optimism Salah but you are a week too early. let's hope you can post the same post next Saturday around 2:30.

04 Mar 2018 16:32:59
I agree with salah, City are good but they're a long way from proving they're great. A couple of times they have faced adversity this year, lfc and Wigan, also shaktar doneskt and have been left wanting. I think their defence is the issue.

03 Mar 2018 21:27:15
Klopp is definitely a coach who improves a team, while Mou and Pep just buy. Case in point the multitude of players that Mou let go that came good.

Believable12 Unbelievable8

03 Mar 2018 22:02:41
Pep improves player.

03 Mar 2018 22:14:34
Pep is actually a very good coach who actually improves players as well so I slightly disagree there. Mou? Totally agree. JoHe's just Pulis with a fat checkbook.

03 Mar 2018 22:18:42
Mourinho is special god bless.

03 Mar 2018 22:34:03
Agree klopp (and his army of couches) improve players but we can hardly say he hasn't spent a lot of money.

03 Mar 2018 22:44:37
“and his army of couches”

😄 I think you’re giving too much credit to the furniture 😉.

{Ed025's Note - so-fa so good ron..

03 Mar 2018 23:13:30
Pepe spends lots of money but it's not like VVD, Firmino, Mane, Ox and Salah came here on frees. Can't both of them be top class coaches or do we always have to put LFC on a pedestal and not give credit elsewhere.

03 Mar 2018 23:14:11
Oh gosh Ed haha!

You can tell you’re struggling at the moment. What could be causing that? 🤔😉.

03 Mar 2018 23:26:12
😅haha sofa-king funny.

04 Mar 2018 08:46:24
Sure Jayden23, they cost money but we also sold players for incredible sums, no team in the PL has got so much money from player sales as LFC. So klopp thinks about minimizing costs as much as he can which is great compared to the 200 million £ net spend on transfer fees alone that Pep goes through every summer! If he is that good to develop players he wouldn't go through players like underwear until he finds those who are good enough and fit him! It's not like his signings are mind blowing either, their best players are players who have been there for a long time, David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, . Laporte cost 12 million € less than van Dijk, the french John Stones (Another 50 million £) Out of all the signings he has made at Man City you'd argue Leroy Sane and Ederson are the only ones who have actually made a diffrence, Kyle Walker is English so get praise and credit regardless but he was replacing a finished player, not very hard to improve on that. To compare Klopp with Pep when it comes to develop a team is simply a joke, and i am not talking about their times here in England only either.

04 Mar 2018 09:45:51
Nostradamus some great points mate. But all I'm saying is it doesn't have to be one or the other. Klopp is exceptionally good and so is Pepe. Both sets of players seem to find another level whilst playing under them.

04 Mar 2018 10:20:14
And by the way mate Firmino was signed by Rodgers, i know it feels like he is a new player but Brendan never used him correctly in his preferred position.

04 Mar 2018 10:41:36
Klopp improved Firmino, Lallana, Salah, Can, TAA, and Gomez. He gave Karius exactly what he needed in taking him out of the limelight for a period while still giving him a run of games.
Be that as it may, he has made me into a believer.
On the issue of spending money, I will go with what ED002 says: forget the money.
Who will trade places with Arsenal even though they declared profit.

03 Mar 2018 21:18:52
Forgive me this self serving post.

I've posted on here a few times over the last few years about Klopp's progress. Normally it was after things were not going well and so I was pointing out we had to be patient and let him build.

Basically my point was that Klopp doesn't have the budget to change a team in 2 or 3 transfer windows like Man City or Man Utd and that it would take him 3 Summer transfer windows to build his team, to take chances on some players and give others coaching and time, some would work, some wouldn't, like it was in the 80s and 90s for all managers. Also I pointed out that while he never spoke of it publically he had to move out a lot of players and did not have the budget (or attractiveness as a club) to target A grade players before getting back into and then thriving in the Champs League.

Seeing it happening is exciting. I think we will finish 2nd and have a real crack off the Champions League (I also said this re. the Champions league on here near the start of the season due to how most teams in the Champs league set up) .

Next season it will be the team that Klopp (and his coaching team) built, coached and evolved. We will take on everyone.

Klopp could have gone to more successful clubs (in recent decades) with bigger budgets. He refused Man Utd. and other clubs but as he said himself he told his wife while on his coaching break 'if Liverpool call I won't be able to say no'. He is a romantic believer and wanted the Liverpool challenge of restoring the club to the top, a good way to go but on track. YNWA.

Believable25 Unbelievable2

{Ed025's Note - good post that fitzy..

03 Mar 2018 22:19:44
Brilliant post, Fitzy. I love Klopp, worts and all and he's like family. Sometimes, you wanna bash their heads in and other times, you wanna hug them tight. I just hope he can get us some pots to crown his already impressive body of work that he has achieved in such a short time, esp. judging by how far behind our current rivals, we were when he came to us.

03 Mar 2018 22:33:45
Great post Brover especially point about Klopp being like family.

03 Mar 2018 23:02:11
Cracking post that fitzy. Love it. Klopp is taking us places. Feeling pretty sure about that and I am enjoying the football we are playing under him. He is assembling a real team capable of fighting for trophies and it’s exciting times to be a Liverpool supporter. I love the passion he shows at the side of the pitch (maybe ridiculous to some) but I saw an interview with VVD saying how the boys love it and it installs a positive feeling in them, makes them feel like he believes in them. He really is building something special.

Special mention to Karius and the Ox today. 👏👏👏.

04 Mar 2018 11:11:43
Calm down.

03 Mar 2018 21:06:39
What an amazing save from Karius👏.

Believable18 Unbelievable0

03 Mar 2018 22:22:32
Barry, Isn't it awesome to have a GK who actually keeps you in games?

04 Mar 2018 00:23:10
It's a bit of a strange feeling for sure Rover.

04 Mar 2018 02:13:25
If that was De Gea the pundits would be reaching for the tissues how he was going in the opposite direction and still managed to shift his weight and pull off a magnificent safe. Not a worldly IMO but a fantastic save non the less. Keep it up Karius.

04 Mar 2018 09:16:44
the fact he was moving in the opposite dirrection and still managed to shift his weight and stop the wonder strike makes it a worldie save mate! so have to disagree fella.

03 Mar 2018 21:05:20
I saw a Melissa Reddy piece a few months ago. She wrote about an interview the Ox gave when he first joined Arsenal. He spoke about how at Southampton his game was about carrying the ball, running at the defense and setting up a team mate or shooting. He then spoke about how the manager at Arsenal wanted him to play a different way now, pass and move more and not shoot from outside the box so much. He was then positive avout learning this new way.

I guess Klopp remembered the skill set that had the Ox burst onto the scene in the first place. Interviews with the Ox and Klopp now are all about him taking on the defence and shooting more. It's working well so far.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

03 Mar 2018 22:28:25
I was a HUGE Ox critic and did not want him here, like many others. I did say if he did sign, he would get my support and that has not changed. Ox is a diffent kind of CAM as one who is not a playmaker like Cou is or was BUT one who can run at a team, right at the heart of their defence that will have to make them commit and when they do, the attacking options are there for him to choose from.

Klopp always had a plan for Ox as he knew prolly that Cou could go and instead of looking for some over-priced playmaker who's not at Cou's level, he chose to change the way we attack teams by adding more thrust, energy and pace in the CAM position and it is paying dividends and we still have the Cou money untouched. Shows why Klopp is the manager and I'm not, lol.

04 Mar 2018 06:57:00
I read an interesting article that the Ox was also a decent rugby player as a kid hence his tendency to be direct and drive at the defence.

{Ed001's Note - he was and went to a rugby playing school, rather than a football one. He is quite a posh kid, as the surname suggests. It is a very unusual route for a footballer, they normally are not from well off families. It does show that you don't need to come from nothing to have the drive and determination to prove yourself and to make it though.}

03 Mar 2018 19:41:28
Thoroughly professional. I like that.

You reds!

Believable13 Unbelievable0

03 Mar 2018 20:17:38
Great performance.
A lot of praise goes to Salah, Firmino and Mane.
I thought Robertson was the equal of them today, he has a great engine and never stopped hassling players.

Massive shout to Karius, he made one great save but THAT was a pivotal moment and he made a massive contribution to the win.

Man of the match for me though was the Ox. He played brilliantly.

03 Mar 2018 20:19:25
If karius decides to pull off saves like that and erase the mistakes I say let's save 40 odd million and develop him into the German keeper we deserve.

{Ed002's Note - You are not upset he didn’t catch it then?}

03 Mar 2018 20:22:12
The ox sure is getting a lot of motm medals. Did I mention he is my new favourite player. Coutinio broke down stubborn defences with his slick passing and long shots, the ox does it by driving forward and pulling the defenders off salah and co. Unselfish player who fits the modern cm position perfectly. I think klopp deserves some credit for spotting that when a lot of us, including me, doubted it.

03 Mar 2018 20:38:44
Thought robbo was poor on the ball again tbh. Can't fault his attitude though.

03 Mar 2018 20:41:21
Similar performance to last week versus the Hammers. What I liked most about today was, we weren't brilliant but when we gave possession away 2 players are right on it to get the ball back .

03 Mar 2018 20:41:34
How can anyone thumbs down that comment I made? Salah, I know we fell out about Gerrard and alonso but dude, it's about the debate and not about personal grudges. You don't think ox is a good cm for us? Or that he isn't getting a lot of motm nominations? Or that klopp deserves credit for spotting aoc can be a good cm for us?

03 Mar 2018 20:43:19
Apologies if it wasn't you salah. And I hope there are no hard feelings between us. There certainly are none from my end.

03 Mar 2018 20:48:17
Very professional performance, laced with patience, energy, speed of thought, and pivotal moments of brilliance in both boxes. Karius? Now, that is the best save I have seen an LFC player make this season, hands down. We actually now, have a GK who keeps us in games whether at 0-0 or at 1-0 and that is the THIRD PL game in a row he has done that for us where he has done that (vs Saints, WH and now, Newcastle) . Keep it up, man and job well done to the team, staff and fans at the stadium.

03 Mar 2018 20:58:21
Results over performance. Take that very good win into the next game. Let's hope city smash Chelsea.

03 Mar 2018 21:42:31
lol supersalah I can assure you I didn't thumbs down your comment, I barely use the feature.

03 Mar 2018 21:43:52
Sorry I clicked reply to early and no hard feelings here mate, it's all about opinions, you have yours I have mine :) life is too short SS!

03 Mar 2018 20:39:43
Eds2 more upset he didn't scorpion kick it away. DDG standard that save.

03 Mar 2018 21:12:40
that's a good one Ed.

03 Mar 2018 22:29:57
Is Salah having an argument with the Super version of himself?

03 Mar 2018 23:08:09
Good man salah, you seem like a nice lad, I'm glad we haven't fallen out. And tbf, alonso and gerrard, there wasn't much in it, tbh here is a case for either of them. Y. N. W. A.

04 Mar 2018 11:12:54
Nah no falling out ss :) sometimes we can be so passionate about a certain subject and typing online can be misinterpreted so easily, but it's all good mate :)

03 Mar 2018 19:54:27
A poster the other night posted a really good question that I never had time to reply to. It was just a bit of fun so thought I'd post again to get peoples answers.

If you could pick one player from the top five European countries (Germany, England, France, Spain and Italy) . You could only pick a position once.

I would have to choose.

England. Azpilicueta

Germany. Hummels

Italy. Alisson.

Spain. Isco

France. Mbappe.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

03 Mar 2018 19:59:32
why are people trying to be clever most people when asked to pick one player from spain went with isco asensio etc. really. are u really saying that L. Messi wouldn't be first pick, he is the best player in the world by a country and perhaps the best of all time and u pick isco over him. jesus isco can't hold down a place in the real madrid team.

03 Mar 2018 20:15:15
Azpilicueta from England is also an odd shout. Do people really believe he is the best player in the prem? Would you swap him for salah? I certainly would not?

England = Salah

Italy = khiedra

Spain = Messi

Germany = tough but I'll go with mat hummels. I like lovren a lot but perhaps hummels is the player that completes liverpool defence.

France = Neymar. Horrible person but beautiful footballer.

03 Mar 2018 20:16:23
Cos we’ve got SALAH do do do do dodoo.

03 Mar 2018 20:56:19
The five players are being signed for Liverpool. As far as I know he’s there already no need to buy him.

03 Mar 2018 20:56:52
Fruitba you obviously never seen Maradonna play stating messi is the best player ever Diego was in a different class with the footballs and pitches he played on compared to what Messi plays with and plays on worlds apart for me.

03 Mar 2018 21:11:28
Oooooooooohh Mane Mane!

03 Mar 2018 21:25:03
Carroll, Torres, Reina, Sahin, balotelli.

03 Mar 2018 21:34:22
Oh I get it. If I could choose a player from each league to come to Liverpool. I thought it meant favourite player from each league. I still wouldn't pick the Chelsea cb, there are loads of players I'd pick over him. Kante, kdb, kane, matic, auberyang.

03 Mar 2018 22:06:49
auberyang? you mean aboomerang? haha.

03 Mar 2018 23:11:21
I think he went go the wrong club nostradamus, I think he is a hell of a player. I'd take him at Liverpool all day. I love salah but reckon he will be off in the summer. BTW, I think it will be a mistake for salah to leave. He thrives on the counter attack and won't do too much of that at Madrid.

03 Mar 2018 23:36:20
England- Kante
Spain- Oblak
Italy- Milincovic-Savic
Germany- Hummels
France- Mbappe

Oblak
Taa hummels vvd Robertson
Keita. Kante Savic
Salah. Firmino. Mane
Mbappe is young and can play all along the frontline.

03 Mar 2018 18:24:24
End's, not sure if this has been mentioned, I've certainly not seen it. Greg James from radio 1 was doing the peak challenge raising money for mental health. I don't recall the number to text, I believe It was txt 'greg' to 70205 (this can be clarified I'm sure) it is such a worthy cause, and to spread the word across the whole site would be fantastic. I think it's a donation of 5 pounds which in modern day prices is one beer. Can we please drive the campaign on the site and beyond, we of course never walk alone. It just seems so apt for us Liverpool fans.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

03 Mar 2018 19:39:15
It finished yesterday at the end of his show. You can no longer donate but was a very worthy cause!

03 Mar 2018 19:39:41
Good shout, I will donate.

03 Mar 2018 19:50:07
That's a shame jonpow, sometimes these causes don't get the coverage they deserve. Truly in awe of the man's courage to take it on on such bad conditions.

03 Mar 2018 14:19:08
Ed25 if your about mate, what a shambles 😆 Ashley Williams is such a lump, if he's not 20 yards out of position, he's lashing out. Think you could be in a much better if BigSam had the balls to drop him and never pick him again.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think if our board had the balls to sack our fat lump of a manager RTID then we would not be in this mess, because surely any other manager would not play williams under any circumstances mate..

03 Mar 2018 17:34:37
Everton are better than this Ed.

{Ed025's Note - unfortunately they are not barry, very poor from top to bottom led by a manager who is pathetic and players who dont give a toss mate..

03 Mar 2018 19:57:58
Don't worry he is suspended now. I feel your pain E025.

{Ed025's Note - cheers mark..

03 Mar 2018 20:01:47
Still not hopeful of a top 4 finish or challenge then ed25. I forgot you had the better squad. 🤣.

{Ed025's Note - we all start with hope p1, then real life kicks in mate..

03 Mar 2018 20:38:37
everton fans deserve better barry ed025 included, the trouble is you have overpaid on average players they were rubbish before you bought them they were not suddenly going to turn into good players just because they cost over £30m each, give fat scam a envelope full of cash he is good at that and get marco silva asap, you don't owe sam anything let him go to west brom. superb summary btw ed025 mate.

{Ed025's Note - whoever comes in has got one hell of a difficult job KK..

03 Mar 2018 20:51:01
Ed25 and many others on here, said this would not end well as soon as The Scam got the job. Had yhey just held out for a bit longer, they would have had Marco Silva now, who they really wanted. It's a train wreck right now at Everton and frankly, it may get worse before it gets better. Gird your loins, Ed25!

{Ed025's Note - your right brover, relegation is still a real threat mate..

03 Mar 2018 20:51:53
I agree about the manager Ed but I thought the Everton lad's knew how to battle?

{Ed025's Note - so did i barry, but the negativity around the squad is making us very nervous and confidence is at an all time low mate..

03 Mar 2018 23:51:57
There were plenty on this site who were desperate for Liverpool to sign Michael Keane in the Summer once the VVD deal went down the pan. Today demonstrated just how awful a central defender he really is, given the runaround by Ashley Barnes of all people. Plenty wanted Jason Pickford too - good shot stopper but dreadful positioning and decision making. I prefer to leave these things to Klopp, he seems to know a player when he sees him.

04 Mar 2018 11:03:44
Big sam was brought in to keep you up, I don’t think he should of been appointed but they panicked. He is not a long term answer, think they may go back for dyche in the summer. But there another team that need an overhaul, they backed koeman who unfortunately got it wrong and has possibly set you back a few seasons. Hopefully Everton start to sort it out, but hopefully not too much. ;)

04 Mar 2018 11:10:20
Quick look online and it appears your fans have turned on fat scam. Who would be next ed25.

03 Mar 2018 16:54:10
Great to see Henderson back but why can't JK leave a settled back 4?

To be fair to him he's only really making 1 change to the back 4 per game at the moment and it might be whilst he sees who fits the bill with VVD best. Or it could be hat matip and lovren are both prone to an injury so managing their games may be best for the end of the season.

03 Mar 2018 20:16:16
Horses for courses.

03 Mar 2018 21:27:33
I don't like this 3 central defender thing he keeps trying though Reds. Inviting pressure it's failed a few times in big games.

03 Mar 2018 16:45:23
Ryan Sessengnon scores again today this lad has so much potential it's unreal . Buy him this summer and loan him back to Fulham for the season to continue his development as eventually he will end up as a mildfielder and a bloody good one at that! Be a superb investment in my opinion but of course with our track record when dealing with Fulham it might not be the easiest thing to do, what do my fellow reds think about this boy wonder.

Believable11 Unbelievable1

03 Mar 2018 16:59:43
He's going to be very expensive. No way he'll end up a left back tho.

03 Mar 2018 19:36:17
Yeap left sided winger by the looks of things livered but a great goal scoring ratio for a wing back at the moment, of course he will cost but would it not be better to pay whatever Fulham request in the summer rather than look to buy him off a premier rival in let's say 3 years time for probably 3 times the price because this boy is going places be assured of that!

03 Mar 2018 19:50:32
Whatever his price someone will pay, and will be getting a very good player. I would pay, not my money tho!

03 Mar 2018 20:52:51
He's a Gareth Bale in waiting, IMO.

03 Mar 2018 16:41:24
Very attacking line up by Rafa, potential banana skin tonight. I'm sure Gayle will get his usual goal against us, maybe another 4-3 on the cards ;)

Believable2 Unbelievable4

03 Mar 2018 19:41:06
I don't mean to be rude to the guy but gale often looks like he has won a competition or something, no idea how he is a Premier league player.

03 Mar 2018 20:55:44
Always, cos you select attacking players does not mean you will attack as Newcastle parked two buses and used Atsu and Kenedy as auxiliary FB's to counter our FB's when the go forward does not. Mou does this all the time and in fact at Anfield this season, he played Young and Martial out wide YET they never crossed the half way line.

Hi Ed, I guess Saturday is a busy day for you so I'll be brief. Do you think with the new ucl qualification thing (top 4 automatically qualify for ucl proper) that there is a chance, one day in near future where 5th place team in premier league go into the ucl qualifiers? And are there any other leagues that have 5 teams in ucl due to league place. I look at the Premier league from 1st to 5th and all these teams look capable of going a long w.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

03 Mar 2018 15:02:10
Just been watching a bit of LFC TV and the 2 4-3 games v Newcastle. And quite frankly David James makes Mignolet look like an absolute world class keeper. I know we've stuck with Mignolet for far too many years but how long did we stick with David James for and he was awful.
Also been enjoying the champions league classics on BT. The re run of the 4-0 win over Real Madrid with Torres on fire and the 2007 CL final and the only good game I saw Pennant play in a red shirt.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

03 Mar 2018 15:33:12
I'd take James over migs all day. James made errors in when to come and when not to but he was an immense shot stopper. People in Portsmouth love him as he was one of pompey best players for years. He also had some very good games for us.

03 Mar 2018 15:45:25
I think he came to us too young and couldn’t handle the pressure, he became a better goalkeeper as he got older.

03 Mar 2018 16:50:59
Always thought James was more interested in off field activities (modelling, art, etc) than on field stuff and, as a result, didn't work hard enough at his game or the glaring flaws in it. Even at Portsmouth he was still prone to flapping at crosses and making daft mistakes, might have been good with a different mentality but honestly can't remember any point when I thought 'wow he's a really good keeper'.

{Ed001's Note - Jamo was a knob. Didn't deserve the shirt ever. Used to skip training regularly to go out on the lash and was a complete bell.}

03 Mar 2018 17:12:18
Didn't know he was that unprofessional Ed. I can't stand players like that who have neither respect for the club or its fans nor an appreciation for how lucky they are. We seemed to have a lot of tools during that particular era.

{Ed001's Note - he was a bum.}

03 Mar 2018 17:25:48
Roy Evans was too soft we had great young talent in the mid 90 s but needed a stronger manager Roy was a great no 2 and club man.

03 Mar 2018 20:42:15
He wasn't up to the job of Liverpool manager sadly. Not tough enough.

03 Mar 2018 14:33:34
Watched Porto beat Sporting Lisbon 2-1 and they looked very weak. Team is decimated by injury right now. Aboubakar was on the bench though. Looks like we should be able to win big at Anfield if we play the way we did in the first leg. They're not looking any stronger.

Do people still want me to do the Liverpool Champions League preview like i did for the first leg?

03 Mar 2018 15:02:32
Mk - what happened to Mattie Virtue's loan? I saw he had returned already to the under 23's.

03 Mar 2018 15:02:38
Ed001 I know you have one hell of list of articles to get through and it’s definitely good that some of the posters have offered to contribute and take away some of the workload, was wondering though what articles are you currently working on or are next on the hit list these are always a good read, cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I am working on Johan Cruyff for the Legends of the Game series right now. Taking a while though as he has done so much. I am really struggling to figure out how to condense it down to an article or even two!}

03 Mar 2018 15:32:38
Mark I believe the return was just for a one-off match given it was an important game, not the end of he loan. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

03 Mar 2018 15:39:43
Cheers SG, I was thinking if he couldn't do a job for Notts County something isn't right.

Hope Lallana starts today. He will never get fit if he doesn't play.

03 Mar 2018 15:35:11
Dunno why mks and ed01 don't write for the echo or such like papers. On a selfish note I'm glad we have them to ourselves here.

{Ed001's Note - to be a journalist for those you need to have the required qualifications, which I certainly do not have.}

03 Mar 2018 15:56:03
Yeah you also need to write stuff for clickbait too, I'm glad your not one of them writers Ed1 and MK. At least here, when the article is titled whatever it is titled, it is wrote in depth about that subject. These newspaper websites, half of them copy and paste off of one another and change a few words.

{Ed001's Note - I can't understand how someone could be bothered to write clickbait. They also just c'n'p wiki to pad out an article etc. What is wrong with putting things in your own words?}

03 Mar 2018 16:20:23
I'm doing a literature degree part time with the ou. I am halfway through my 2nd year which would be my 1st year if I were doing it full time. It has been pretty easy so far (in fact I have been surprised at how easy it is to pass) reading your articles ed01 I have absolutely no doubt that you would pass no problem and part time, it really doesn't take up much of your life. I guess if I were going for A*s it would take longer but I average B-/ B and like I say don't put in as much effort as I could. I didn't start the course for the qualification, I started because I wanted to learn. I enjoy writing, have been a singer/ songwriter for 15 years and I enjoy writing short stories. My ambition is to write a novel and get it published.

Food for thought though dude, it's never too late. I started when I was 35. If you told the ou about your role here I reckon that would be enough to get you in. If not you could take an access course which is how I started. Takes 6 months.

You clearly have a passion for writing and you have talent too. Which is more than I can say for half the sport journalists writing for tabloids.

{Ed001's Note - I never did English Lit in school mate. I don't think I would be able to do a degree without the initial GCSE or similar, even if I wanted to. I have to be honest, there seems little point as I have no interest in going to work for someone else. I don't want to end up producing the formulaic stuff most trained journalists churn out. I enjoy writing and think skills are something that you can develop by practising them. So I continually write stuff.

I am not sure what a degree would add to me as a person that I could not add by spending the same amount of time producing articles for the site.}

03 Mar 2018 16:44:47
Oh it actually winds me up Ed1, so I don't check them anymore. I think the biggest problem with most of them is they have no idea what they are writing about which is why they tend to look to wiki/ other peoples websites for info and change little bits about it.

Journalists are just damn right lazy and can't be creative in what they are writing which makes me think, why are they even in that job? useless the majority of them. They have no passion about it unfortunately, sites like this with genuine writers like yourself and MK are very very rare.

{Ed001's Note - there are a few good ones out there. Bleacher Report is mostly crap but they do some really good long form articles which are excellent if you can find them. Also there is a site called either these or those football times which has really good articles.}

03 Mar 2018 16:45:39
I hope mk not only write preview of the match, but also after match review too . Thank enjoy your post a lot.

03 Mar 2018 16:53:48
Are you softening up to the idea of us resting a few players now MK ;) Nah but in all seriousness, with a 5 goal cushion, we should be through comfortably, it would be the shock of all shocks if we crashed out - focus, determination and professionalism, by whomever is selected, should be enough to see us through.

03 Mar 2018 17:06:02
I got a 1st in English Lit from Liverpool university about 4 years ago (was also a mature student at 30 when I completed it) . The first year is not so bad Super Salah but the difficulty does ramp up significantly, especially 3rd year - the key is enjoying it as that pushes you on to put in the effort to succeed. I spent many an evening in the Uni library until morning drafting and redrafting essays, working on presentations and dissertations, etc etc but I enjoyed the process so even though I was like the walking dead it was satisfying. This is just a heads up for when it starts to become more challenging but if you ever want any tips, with regards to essay/ dissertation writing, I'd be more than happy to oblige.

03 Mar 2018 17:23:05
missed the 1st one can it be re-posted? or how do i find it please any body!

03 Mar 2018 18:42:39
Go for it mk I'll be reading it. I like reading all the articles.

03 Mar 2018 19:48:37
Thanks Seano, and well done with the 1st! I won't get a 1st, no way but I think I'll pass. Yeah I know its going to get a lot harder next year but I do enjoy it very much, especially assignments. Thanks for the heads up dude.

I was expelled from school Ed, left with no gcse's. I think mature students get given the benefit of the doubt. Like I say, I had to pass an access course, 6 months, a-level equivalent. Also, I believe a lot of journalists are freelance and work for themselves. At the end of the day, if you wanna write and enlighten people then you already have that here. I think you show a passion for it and that comes across. Top site, best footy site easily. Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I certainly think it is a good idea to get an education if you can.}

03 Mar 2018 11:07:04
Ed 1, what did you make of Keegan as a manager. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves for taking Newcastle as far as he did. I remember them coming to anfield with his promoted team and beating us easily. Andy Cole got a couple and Beardsley was mom.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't a manager, he was a cheerleader. He would just let them do what they wanted.}

03 Mar 2018 11:17:35
Do you think him or maybe Toshack would have been better for us than Souness though.

{Ed001's Note - Toshack yes, but no chance Keegan. Would have been a shambles at the end just the same, as was left when Keegan walked out as he always does.}

03 Mar 2018 11:30:22
Nice description Ed ‘cheerleader not a manager’. I couldn’t help but like the guy, and his teams had many an exciting game, but as you say not for us. Seems like a decent guy too.

{Ed001's Note - very money oriented but yes, nice guy but we did not need a nice guy then.}

03 Mar 2018 11:40:55
Toshack was a very good manager in my opinion. He is a huge part of why Xabi Alonso was as good as he was. Making him Real Sociedad captain at 20 years old was a huge call that did wonders for his confidence and development. Finishing 2nd in La Liga with Sociedad is a minor miracle.

{Ed001's Note - correct, he was a very good manager.}

03 Mar 2018 14:40:04
On the Toshack discussion I remember him taking the Wales job the first time around on a part time basis, and I'm sure we got whacked by, not sure now, could have been Norway by about 5 goals. He called it a day and got stick for it, even though he was running Sociedad at the time too.
In the qualifiers group of Europe 2004, and when Wales led the group, Toshack was the only pundit who said we shouldn't get carried away with being top and said we needed to work harder. Wales missed out on qualification that year again. Some players came out to slag him off, the obvious one being Robbie Savage, saying that he would never play for Wales if Toshack became boss. Love and behold, Toshack became boss and savage began his creeping, and later, sniping of Toshack. Tosh seemed to be a manager who didn't give much notice if you were a top player, as long as you were a team player. He oversaw the changes in Welsh football, out with the old and blooded the youngsters, playing Bale as a left attacking midfielder / winGer before he played there for spurs, putting the foundations in place for Gary Speed and later Chris Coleman to build on. Having Roy Evans alongside him helped a lot too. You don't take a club like Swansea from 4th division to top of the 1st, and manage Real Madrid twice without being a decent manamer.

03 Mar 2018 15:34:32
Kevin I will love it if we beat them Keegan. Hilarious. Could and should have won the premier league to be fair.

03 Mar 2018 15:37:14
Souness deserves at least some credit for Fowler, mcmanaman and redknapp. He gave them their chance eh.

03 Mar 2018 17:12:29
I can’t belive the amount of abuse Keegan takes on this page. What exactly did he do so wrong that people compelty ignore his excellent track record at the club! He ran down his contract and left the club! Anything else that we are missing. The Kop sometimes baffles me! They only appreciate players they like and ignore all others!

04 Mar 2018 11:07:54
How and where has anyone run down Keegan? People had a go at his management, things he said and actual did but not him as a player or person. Just because he was a great player for us does not mean his downsides can't be discussed.

21 Nov 2018 21:41:50
MK, small correction. Toshack was not in charge when La Real Sociedad finished second in the 2002/ 2003 season. It was the Frenchman Reynald Denoueix (Won Ligue 1 with Nantes in 2001) that led La Real Sociedad (with Alonso, Nihat Kavehci, Darko Kovacevic, Javier Oscar DePedro etc) to second in La Liga, narrowly losing out to the Galacticos of Real Madrid.

{Ed001's Note - no, he chose us because he supports us.}

I remember an interview with AOC and he said he supported Zola and Henry so followed Chelsea or Arsenal, no mention of Liverpool?

03 Mar 2018 13:06:48
When he was at Southampton, I remember reading on here that we were linked with him because he was a Liverpool fan. I think that they were asking more than Liverpool were prepared to pay and he signed for Arsenal instead.

03 Mar 2018 15:14:21
Have I mentioned aoc Is my new favourite player.

03 Mar 2018 17:13:55
He wasn’t particularly interested in playing as a WB at Chelsea!

Heard the same, spud. That's why Walcott was linked too. Maybe all these players think they are signing for their boyhood team coz Saints play in red too 😉.

If Liverpool miss out on 4th spot to spurs and if its only a matter of less than 3 points, well I think that would be proof that VAR doesn't work. How did spurs come away from anfield with a point! We would be Second now and miles ahead of spurs. That off side could be massive. I think there are still plenty of twists left in the season. It's this part (last 10 games) when the blood pressure really is too high. I still think we will finish top 3 but the rest are all playing well.

Believable4 Unbelievable10

03 Mar 2018 04:41:29
There's no point worrying about 'what ifs' in previous matches. I think we're in much better position than Chelsea. If we perform up to our usual standards against Newcastle and Chelsea lose at the Etihad, we'll be 7 points clear.

We just got to take things 1 game at a time. 10 games, 10 cup finals.

03 Mar 2018 05:33:32
How does it prove VAR doesn’t work? VAR wasn’t used in that game.

03 Mar 2018 06:04:58
That game was proof that VAR could have helped?

03 Mar 2018 06:49:16
I hate it when people point to one game as if it decides the outcome of 38 game season. It doesn’t!

If we miss out by a couple of points then we should look at all the occasions we failed to hold onto our lead like against arsenal, Chelsea, drawing against West Brom, Newcastle, Man Utd, the result against Swansea. And so on.

03 Mar 2018 07:40:15
Game has gone. Move on.

10 cup finals now and some huge games in Europe to be taken 1 match at a time. Let’s keep winnin and see where we end up.

03 Mar 2018 09:18:46
I think If someone offered us the chance at the start of the season, that with 10 games left we’d be above spurs and Chelsea (last years top 2 by the way), we’d have bitten their hands off. It’s in our hands, no one else’s. games like today are massive now.

03 Mar 2018 15:17:47
Oh, sorry but I thought VAR was used, they had the 4th official looking at something though eh? In that case I'm all for VAR lol.

You can say "I hate people pointing to 1 game etc" but we could miss out to spurs by 2 points and it would be very hard not go point to that game.

03 Mar 2018 16:58:26
No it wouldn’t supersalah hence my post. It’s very simplistic to say so.

03 Mar 2018 17:11:03
Those games do effect you.

the reason refs get so much grief is because of those decisions. There so important. A wrong penalty decision, offside, red card.

Mane, yes it was a red but every other player who has done it and worse all got a yellow? If he hadn't of been sent off we were well in that game and if we would of got a win how important would that prove to be.

Those 6/ 8 points throughout a year could be a difference to huge success or failure, exactly why var is getting implemented! Because of how important those decisions are!

03 Mar 2018 19:09:27
It was 100% a red card though so you can’t point to that game. You can’t point at one particular game as the reason for where you finish in the league because you have 37 other opportunities to make up for it.

04 Mar 2018 15:46:29
Which we practically have 87.

Listen even city can't go unbeaten so you are going to lose and draw throughout a campaign, without something having to go against you but those 6/ 8 points through bad calls are huge.

People only defend this point because they can't believe Gerrard cost us the title. Which he did 100%.
