So looks like another ~50M loss for FY 2012-2013. I really wasn't expecting it to be that high, more in the ~25M-30M range I would have thought. And another 46M interest free loan from UKSV looks like as well to cover the losses and reduce the bank debt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we get CL and maybe a 3rd place finish next year will look a lot more healthy.

Agree0 Disagree0

We really, really need to quit losing money when we sell players. That is absolutely killing us. CL will help and so will the new TV revenue, but that effectively just takes us to even and allows us to pay our already existing bills without incurring a loss. Short version is player acquisition this summer is probably not going to be as exciting as many think unless we sell someone and we have very few players with any positive book value.

RDL.

Spot on, To be fair, I don't expect us to sign 30 mill players, we have some really good players out there who would come cheap and would defo improve our squad. This squad on its day would defo be a top 4 side year in year out.

Banter please Eds.

Evening Gent's.

Another week goes by, another win for Liverpool that put's you in 2nd place with 10 games to go.

Are you thinking about winning the league or are you keeping poker faced about it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

One game at a time for us man. we are in a good position but there is a lot of football to play - if we take it one game at a time and try and finish as high as possible then anything is possible but, personally, I am not even contemplating winning the league at this stage - that would be pure folly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah we are well and truly believing now, the songs have started and everything.

Agree0 Disagree0

Evenin,

Poker faced optimism should just about do it dg.

Cometh the hour. cometh the reds!

Agree0 Disagree0

We are fighting for CL placing. Our squad is still lacking behind Chelsea and Citeh to be competing for the title.

Agree0 Disagree0

Poker face. always the poker face!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags,

Personally, I am holding off until we get the next couple of away games out of the way. Should we be as well placed as we are now, or even better after those, then I will start to dream.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Dags it's a strange table, I've got an Ace, King suited, Marcellus has got a pair of 9's, you've got a pair of 8's, no registered man city fan and Sydney, well he's folded before the flop lol
Basically it's all to play for, the pots getting bigger, the cards will soon be revealed and we'll see who can hold the nerves the best. Could be the biggest bluff of all time eh ha ha

Agree0 Disagree0

I love the analogy Simon.

Personally, I think Wenger threw his hand in when he didn't sign a striker in January, especially as our 2 main goal threats were pretty much out for the season. (Ramsey and Walcott).

Eds was the buyout clause in Suarez contract only allowing the bidding club access to negotiate with the player or a must release if the fee is met clause? I am confused!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it doesn't matter, they aren't legally binding in the UK as Ed002 kept telling everyone all summer.}

So the supposed release clause in his new contract doesn't mean rubbish?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

What's everyone's opinion on Jack Dunn?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Mar 2014 20:47:46
He's average

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2014 21:06:27
Has impressed for a while now. Hope he can make the step up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jack Dunn is an excellent young player with great potential, and given time and support will make the first team, but he has a great chance, that's my opinion after watching him play loads of games.

Agree0 Disagree0

From what I've seen, which is only a few games, he seems to be pretty good player, especially on the ball. He seems to drift in and out of games but can but pop up and produce a moment of magic out of nothing. I think if manages to stay dominant for larger periods rather than in short bursts he can make that step up.

Hi reds and edds I keep on having a moan about tony gale on sky and yet again just been on the sky app and he's done a World Cup verdict which is utter cr@p he thinks England's best hope for doing well in tournaments is Rooney, does he watch football at all how many goals has he scored this season how many assists and I even remember seeing in the newspaper about Rooney and rvp only managing 5 passes between each other in a match I'm not saying he's a bad player just not one to think is going to bring us through a successful tournament. Sturridge has got to start and tony gale says him or Rooney not both he also manages to put cleverly and Henderson in the same bracket which is absolutely mental even sterling doesn't even get a mention. Go have a look at his piss poor verdict I'm sure it will annoy you as much as it did me

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm a chelsea fan and I have to agree with u. He talks utter sh*t. I can't believe he keeps getting air time on sky. He did one a couple of weeks back and he was saying that sterling hadn't done enough to get in the squad. What a joke. He's been one of the best attacking players in the league in the 2nd half of the season.

He commentates on quite a few chelsea games and he makes me want to turn the match off. A few seasons ago when chelsea played west ham and beat them comfortably he was saying that Parker was running the show. He must have been watching a different game.

As is clearly the case this time. I'm not a massive fan of Sturridge but he's on fire at the minute and showing chelsea they were wrong to get rid of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2014 20:03:26
he does annoy me going on sky acting like a school boy flirting round alex hammond and in his predictions every week Manchester United win Liverpool would get the odd win prediction but never do in a top 4 team match up, but then again i'm interested enough to watch the person and see what he has to say I wonder will he predict a utd win on the 16th.

Agree0 Disagree0

The most amazing thing is that he actually makes a living (probably a good one too) from his little pearls of poo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im a United fan mate Sturridge over Rooney everday of the week

03 Mar 2014 18:16:35
Not been over here for a while, been too busy watching the train crash that is United's season. I genuinely thought you had a slim chance of 4th but fair play to BR, he's got you competing at the very top. I know the media are still saying it's between City and Chelsea but stranger things have happened. As a United fan, whilst painful, it's also mesmerising watching what is happening without being involved.

I'd like to say good luck but that's a step too far for me! Fair play though, lots of goals and pretty entertaining to boot.

Ps- thanks to those of you who popped over to wish CTR all the best, nice to see

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Was nice of you to come over and be respectful about a team I know you must grit your teeth saying anything nice about mate I got a quick question for you did you lot see it coming a few seasons back? Because I did not trying to be disrespectful or anything but the way the team was ageing so quickly and no youth coming in to replace the old.guard I think everyone knew sir alex couldn't even pull off that miracle this year that's why I think he jumped into retirement last year also do you think he brought in Moyes to cement his place as a great because he turned a tip team into a mediocre one

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, as you'd expect there are a variety of views. We did buy youth and bring some through but most of them have not been good enough - Anderson, Nani, Bebe (!), Fabio, Cleverley, Wekbeck. Jones and Smalling have great potential still but have not taken the next step. Some, not all, think last year was the worst United team to win the league. If RVP hadn't been signed it would have been tighter and let's be honest, it wasn't a great league last year. A number of teams have got better whilst we have gone backwards. Huge clear out this summer and a fairly critical window. As for Moyes! the jury is put. Appointed by Fergie but never won a trophy. Testing times I guess

Agree0 Disagree0

Id prefer to see you guys win it than City or Chealsea purly because I don't like City or Chealsea who try to nuy trophies and your manager is also Irish like myself

have heard that we are likely to move for Caulker if Cardiff are relegated. Eds have you heard anything on this?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nope.}

03 Mar 2014 16:44:52
Ok Reds and Eds who would you prefer?
Hyppia or Carragher to steady our defence

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Carra, I have to choose Carra, I have to go home at some point and don't want to face the lynch mob wanting to know why I would choose anyone over Jamie! Seriously, I would pick him anyway, just. He is more what we need with his gob. You know that will be the one thing that would take the shine off the title, if we did manage to win it. That Carragher missed out. If anyone's work deserved a league winner's medal, it was Carra. He gave everything for the team.}

We still have 10 games left, Ed001. It's 10 to get a medal, no?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I like your thinking!}

Carra left a year too early, his experience and organisational abilities would have been vital. Ed001 you need to contact Carra and tell him to get the boots back on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hyppia for me all day long

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2014 19:07:19
Both were outstanding. This is as close as to choose between Right eye or the left one.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder what the chances of getting carra to do a scholes like second coming are for the last few matches. Or bring him in as defensive coach? I agree its his gob we miss at the back. Having said that the defence was cracking at the weekend :)
Keep doing what you're doing lads!
YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Hyypia was a slightly better defender but Carra's organisational qualities are what we are really calling out for at this moment in time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carragher as defensive coach, pass on his organisation to all there now!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2014 16:39:20
Eds what do you think if JW Henry's comments regarding Suarez's contract, do you think it's ill timed, we know it's sort of common knowledge about his buy out clause etc but do you think Suarez would be concerned about this, we all know that Suarez would've gone to Arsenal at that time if Liverpool had accepted their bid, although of course we are all glad he didn't and I'm sure he is too but I'm sure if Real come knocking, he would def think about that one and to be fair, you wouldn't blame him
Many Thanks Eds, we all appreciate the work you do to keep us fans happy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - to be honest, I don't really care, it is a complete non-story for me. It is not news, we already knew it, so why is everyone talking about it? Must be a slow news week.}

03 Mar 2014 14:16:09
Two players.id love to see us sign would be alexis sanchez and medel. Top quailty forward.player and top DM

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Mar 2014 14:55:17
Both wonderful players but Sanchez is finally getting game time so won't leave. Pedro or Tello will be the ones moving for game time. As for Medel, he'd be brilliant. But Rodgers wants Gerrard to play there and we also have Lucas there. Not to mention Coady out on loan and Rossiter who are both only a couple of years away (although Coady might not make the grade unless we give him a chance). Medel would have to share game time with Gerrard and Lucas for one position. All 3 players are in their late 20's or early 30's and would want assurances that we couldn't offer. Unless Rodgers pushes Gerrard on (which I don't think will happen) Medel is a no go. In a couple of years when Stevie retires I think we'll see Rossiter take his place anyway with Lucas being an experienced back up.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2014 15:04:53
Medal would still be a decent option anything for less than 7-8 mill, He is unique player, an offensive DM. Other than that, we should either get llalana or Greizman, Both are brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope you are right, Toccie mate. What I'm worried about, and I don't even want to mention the word (begins with I and knakers players). if we stay clear of that word (I sound silly, I know) we will do very, very well.

We will recruit in the summer anyway.

03 Mar 2014 13:56:15
a feller I know made great points on why we will not go in for him

1we will not get another left footed center half as we have two.

2 spurs selling to a rival would be tough and the way levy is good at driving a hard bargain and making clubs pay over the odds, I can not see us entering in for signature, granted he is a good player but better value elsewhere.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Mar 2014 13:45:41
I had to do a quick check to make sure it was the same fella, and it turns out that yes, Gabriel Paletta, the young argentine defender we had on our books back in the day, has been called up for the Italy squad for their game against Spain! Don't remember that much about him other than a few games here and there, but congratulations to him, that's quite a rise in stature.

Just thought i'd post in case anyone wanted to add him to their "one we let get away/one we missed out on" list for future moanings!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought you were mistaken when I seen 'Italy squad', but I just read on another website he has an Italian passport and has been playing well in Serie A as part of 3 centre backs - amazing .

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2014 13:31:06
Hi Eds, great result at the weekend to win 3 - zip away to Southampton is special IMO. Gerrard looked Mitch better in that holding slot don't you think? Was that because Hendo and Allen helped him out?

Also what's your opinion on these Vertonghen rumours that seem to be rife at the minute? Another left sided centre half? Really. ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't see it happening at all, unless he plays left back, which he moaned about doing at Spurs.}

03 Mar 2014 14:07:31
Ed01, How about him partnering Sakho?. He is good defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - then you would have two left footers. As I explained before, there is a shortage of left footers in the game, so very few ever get asked to play out of position. Unlike right footers, who often play on the left, they don't develop the tactical side of the game needed to play from the right. I am sure that some could adapt, but what is the point in even trying to do that when there are plenty of right footed centre backs out there who would play the position naturally?}

03 Mar 2014 15:08:16
Ed01, Yes, We won't be seeing skertel / agger beyond summer, .

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2014 13:07:08
Eds and reds,

Toby Alderweireld was an impressive young player at Ajax and his move to Atletico Madrid seems to have failed.
He would be a good long term partner for Mamadou Sakho and he'd already be competing for a first team place now.

What do you guys think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Mar 2014 14:10:41
Steven Caulker for me. Young, fast, tall, powerful and proper leader of men. Its still beyond me why Spurs let him go and he played under Rodgers whilst on loan at Swansea where he looked like the future of English football. If Cardiff go down he'd probably cost less than £10m as well.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2014 15:34:19
Ed001 I've kept an eye on Caulker all season and think he's been the best of a shambolic bunch. I know you've watched Cardiff to get a look at Medel so have you been impressed at all by Caulker? I was just reading through the reports on newsnow and apparently the Telegraph linked him to us today; Ironically the same day I brought up my admiration for him as a player! Have you heard anything on the link at all? I think he has great potential and it wouldn't suprise me if he captains England one day.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no, I don't rate him at all. Well, not as in rate him for us. He is an average Prem defender. Great in the air, awkward on the ground, positionally suspect, very suspect. Not the worst on the ground for a centre back, but he is not as good as Toure or Skrtel with the ball at their feet. He is just going to attract attention because he is tall and quick. He was not good enough for Spurs, he is not good enough for us either.}

I think he would be perfect to partner sakho he is everything we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Caulker is an excellent player, but under Solksjaer, he is rapidly going backwards. Just shows how bad a Manager Solksjaer is.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there are a lot of issues there, but Solksjaer is probably the biggest one of all. I can understand why Tan felt Malky had to go, there were a number of things he was doing wrong but he chose the wrong replacement. There is a good reason why he got rejected for so many Prem jobs before this one and it is not because of a lack of experience.}

03 Mar 2014 17:45:38
Always interested to hear your thoughts Ed. I agree he isn't a great reader of the game just yet I believe that with time he would learn that. I had never really questioned his ability with the ball at his feet, but I do think he can be indecisive sometimes when picking a pass.

Thanks for the reply anyway. I think Rodgers got the best out of him at Swansea and I'd back him to do it here. You always make me doubt myself ;) who would you like to partner Sakho next year? Do you think Ilori or Wisdom are ready?

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think Ilori is the best bet, he has the ability on the ball to slot straight in, plus pace to allow the defence to push up a bit. Alongside the experienced Sakho, who would be there to ensure he doesn't get bullied, they look an excellent combination, on paper.}

Only concern I have Ed001 with that partnership, which I mentioned last week, was the organisational and vocal abilities of either player, although we don't have that at the moment either. Hopefully Sakho's year would have done him good, he's a genuine leader I think. With CL (fingers crossed) there will be far more opportunities at CB for Llori and perhaps Wisdom to show there potential.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced Wisdom will ever make it at centre back personally. I just don't think he will get the chance to try unless he grows a few inches.}

What about Martin Kelly does he have a future at Liverpool ed. I feel a loan next season to a prem club would be useful for game time and make or break for his lfc career.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is a long road to recover from the injury he had, the club will give him time, just like they did Flanno. Hopefully it will pay off just as big in the end as well!}

YNWAdam, re Caulker, it's not like you not being 100% thorough mate! (Considering all the player profiles you have done in the past) you seemed 100% positive in your appraisal, future England captain and all that, until Ed01 aired his negative views on his distribution and positional sense, so with the benefit of hindsight or should that be Edsight, what is your overall view of him, not in time, now? As I think if we signed him it would be for now as we have plenty of CB's for the future already at the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I can understand why you said that Ed001 but I feel he deserves a chance, I see no harm in a cup game next season. He's also a good RB option, although perhaps not as talented as some others going forward. he is assured and i'm told a fantastic leader for the U21s.

i tipped him as a future star and captain at 16-17 so I'll stick with the lad. fingers crossed he stretches those inches over the Summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2014 01:51:08
I'd still love him Alan. Whilst I can see where Ed001 is coming from I think that at 22 years old he still has plenty of time to iron out his imperfections and become a great centre back. Everyone has different opinion though.

Bravo hendo Keep it up.
KEEP RUNNING LFC, KEEP RUNNING.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Honestly I can say that I argued all the way he would be a good signing from his first season and in particular last season. much like I did with Lucas. Hendo is an excellent all round footballer who gives everything for the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well done Richards, are you a coach or involved in the game?

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't tell Sarcasm or Genuine comments anymore Alan. that's the internet effect! Like people's judgements on players. people join the bandwagon too quickly nowadays.

Im not involved in football, just friends are, but amongst my mates when we talk about football most Liverpool supporters I speak with praise both. although I often have a row with one over Lucas, at which point I win by reminding him of his comments regarding Pennant before joining us. never could he have been so wrong!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2014 11:05:21
Speaking of Tag Pennant, I remember a time he was in unstoppable form. We had a match around the new year against Arsenal, and he'd just gone in for a small op, I was gutted.
He even came out and said it was the best football he'd ever played, pity he couldn't keep up that form ever again.

Shtori lads sligo shtyle, anyway like people's opinion on this, we all know what positions need strengthening, as for who would come in to lb I don't have a clue who could be the best option or for cm, from an attacking point of view I'd love to see knoplayanka brought in but along with him I'd love too see either bony or remy brought in, I think either of these would be massive additions to our attack and our squad, with a busy schedule next season fingers crossed one of them would be worth their weight in gold to any squad, would one of remy/bony be affordable and or good enough in yee guys opinion? Every game becomes more significant than the one before. To beat United on their own turf will make everyone sit up and take notice.
It is going to be a very hard game for us. They will want to salvage some pride from a disappointing season and beating us will restore some of that. It is crucial we play our usual high tempo game. If they come at us they will leave spaces open behind them; they will get ripped apart. Moyes will be aware of this and I can see a very cautious united display.
An early goal for us and the fickle united fans will begin to jeer. lovely!

Hi eds

Is there any chance Liverpool have looked into signing Ravel Morrison. I know he was a loose cannon in his youth but by all accounts he has settled down. The reason behind his loan was due to him not usung the agent Big Sam likes to use. Apparently he had daily pressure from Nolan, Carroll and Allerdyce and football became the second to him using this particular agent. He felt forced out. Have we even looked at him?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Not as far as I am aware.}

03 Mar 2014 09:52:58
Y do we need him?. and whers he going to play?.

Agree0 Disagree0

He would add to squad depth for next year. I can't see him playing for us, but he'd add real quality.

He's not in Westhams side atm due to a persistent groin injury I think Alexkeith.Allardyce has told him to either get it operated on or to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not true. He is not in the team because he is lazy and full of attitude. Nothing to do with an injury. Hence why he was sent out on loan. He is not real quality, he believes he is real quality already, but he is just potential, potential which will never be achieved if he carries on with his off pitch antics. It takes a lot for Allardyce to tire of someone.}

03 Mar 2014 11:00:41
ED01, Spot on. He looks like an improved version of Tarbaat.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - except with less discipline and application.}

I read he was pushed out of West Ham because he refused to change his agent to one preferred by Fat Sam?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no, he was asked to change agent to one who would keep him out of trouble, because his current one was not helping matters. He refused and it was the final straw. The lad is a knob, he is wasting a talent. People have tried to help him, but he would rather be a pretend gangster for his imbecile mates.}

03 Mar 2014 04:24:09
Whilst nothing will be won and lost until April and possibly even May, March is going to be a hugely significant month in deciding the destiny of the league title. In pretty much every round of fixtures there is at least one match between two of the top five clubs. Arsenal have a very tough looking schedule, with Tottenham, Chelsea and City in the league as well as FA Cup and Champions League fixtures with Everton and Bayern repsectively. Tottenham have to play Chelsea, Southampton, Arsenal and ourselves. City have the Manchester derby and a trip to Arsenal. Its not easy for us either but its not beyond the realms of possibility that we could enter April with six matches to play, not top of the league but with Chelsea and City to come, knowing that six wins out of six would win us the league. Now clearly, its not common for any team to win six consecutive matches but just as a barometer of how we're progressing, to be in that position with six matches remaining would be incredible.

For me, its still between Chelsea and City. Having overhauled Arsenal we can realistically hope for third rather than fourth. I think we'll have a pretty good idea come April 1st if we can dream of more. Imagine, just for a minute, what Anfield will be like for those April matches with Chelsea and City if we are in the hunt at that stage.

Before then, Utd away is tough, regardless of our current form and theirs. Cardiff away has potential for complacency and slipping up. Sunderland are slowly improving and Tottenham won't be easy. If ever the old adage of one game at a time applied, its now.

Spot on RR- the pressure will be on City, Chelsea and Arsenal. The former two because of the sheer amount of money spent and the latter because of the time they have spent at the top this season.
I think BR will do well to try and take the pressure off the lads and remind them that the main goal this year is CL qualification. If as you say, we go into April with a chance of the big one then it will be hugely exciting. -then the hunger and desire of the players will
See us through to the finish line

We would beat UTD no matter what, That would end the spell of Moyes at UTD, Better deal for both the parties (Liverpool and UTD fans)

Ajay-kop, no need to be over confident. You cannot guarantee anything as a fan. If you have seen enough football, you should know that Liverpool-Man UTD games are NEVER dictated by form or league position.

Real AG,

Ya I do agree, Its more than just a game for both the teams, and I also believe Venue will prove another significant factor. But I still believe us to do the damage, we have scored against all possible best defenders, Vidic and ferdinand, we would defo score more than 2. I expect us to win 3-1.
They won't handle our front 3, We should start Allen intead of countinho. A 3 man midfield would do it.

I do worry about the UTD game as they will definitley be up for it more than any other game this season (maybe even more than their derby). You can almost garuantee Rooney will be playing like a man possessed in that game.

A bit of patience and solidarity at the back and I'm confident we'll get the 3 points. If we score early, we'll get a few. United won't sit back, they will come out the blocks 100mph with a point to prove - we just need to keep solid and hurt them on the counter as early as possible and we'll win it.

Ajay, I will be very happy with any sort of win, but I think it won't be as easy as you say. For example, how do you know Vidic and Ferdinand will start? It will be fast and furious and nothing can be guaranteed.

The title is a long, long way off, and not worth thinking about until half a dozen games from now - games in which absolutely anything can happen. West Brom, Villa, Hull, anyone?

What is for sure, though, is that a win at Old Trafford, and a Chelsea win over Spurs, leaves us with one foot in the CL.

That was our goal, and we should stick to it. Let Chelsea and City feel the pressure of expectation.
