Lucas to besiktas, dahoud and zielinski anfield bound, next coming weeks, Allen also a possible outgoing.

04 Jul 2016 08:16:48
Look at the post above, just shows that it is not needed. If Allen and Lucas go, we still have hendo can Stewart gruijic, a couple youngsters and the two new boys, that's 6 first teamers ahead of the youth. Personally I'd prefer we just gave Stewart a proper chance, seems big and powerful, naturally defensive too. Also grujic will need games, be interesting to see what he's like.

03 Jul 2016 23:23:18
You have mentioned many a time that Liverpool are not respected by other clubs for doimg business, why is that specifically? Derisory offers? Tapping up? Indecisive? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - All been done to death.}

Hi eds

Long time reader and first time poster. Fantastic job you all do with the information by the way, second to none.

Just a quick question and wondering what your thoughts on Danny Ward are?
Do you think he will make the grade with Liverpool?
Also do you think Ramsey is as good a player as is being made out at the moment? (Not strictly Liverpool that one but just interested in your considered opinions)
Thanks for any answers and all the hard work you do.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Right now it looks unlikely for Ward to make much of an impression at Liverpool. I have no thoughts about Ramsey.}

04 Jul 2016 05:04:41
Gotta agree with Ed002 here. Karius is clearly seen as the long term solution to our GK position and the lad (according to scouts and Klopp himself) seems really up to it. That makes it difficult for Ward do get a look in as 1st choice GK. Even if Ward has a very good loan spell, I do not see him displacing Karius unless Karius does a "Migs".

04 Jul 2016 00:08:14
Thanks for the reply ed002 much appreciated.

03 Jul 2016 22:48:24
Afternoon reds and Eds, just wanna try get little discussion going in asking what position they would most like strengthen this summer under realistic budget, personally I would like us get LB and Ricardo Rodriguez hoping big year fingers crossed reds YNWA.

03 Jul 2016 22:34:10
EDD002 on the subject of KLOPP tapping players up, i. e ZIELINSKI, football clubs and managers have been doing this since the year dot, a FERGUSON was the worst, if LFC played everything by the book they would get left behind, every club does it. get your head out the sand.

Believable13 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with Ferguson or other clubs - Liverpool are an absolute disgrace in doing business and dealing with other clubs. That is whay they have the reputation they do and why other clubs do not like doing business with them - and why they are shunned by the "elite" sides. Dealings with the likes of Burnley and Bolton and shafting an ex-player last season are more examples of a club that operates in a shameful manner. Having a little Johnny Jerkoff like you as a fan seems all too appropriate.}

03 Jul 2016 23:13:06
You can't get much more elite than Liverpool football club, do you mean peasants ed2?

04 Jul 2016 05:49:47
Name an elite club that has failed to win their league for 26 years?

ROFLMAO. You're deluded. But hey, I'm sure next season is going to be your season, right?

04 Jul 2016 01:48:41
ed, why are Liverpool so consistently disgraceful? Don't they realise how counter-productive and self-harming their style of negotiating is? It just seems a bit mad to me. When you piss off so many clubs from the exact same problem, wouldn't that compel you to change?

04 Jul 2016 10:42:19
Ed2 A toast to you for my new favorite phrase Johnny Jerkoff! Have you got any more?

05 Jul 2016 10:13:54
On the point of tapping up, I've just seen an interview with Gundogen who said that he had talked to Guardiola a few times then even when he got injured he said he still wanted him. This intimates that they were having discussions long before he signed for city and I repeat a point I've made before. EVERYONE does it.

03 Jul 2016 21:11:41
Hi all I know the eds have said the squad is bloated do how many first team players will leave
Benteke
Skrtel
Teixeria
Canos
Kolo toure
There just the players gone or in talks with clubs addin the players that are likely to go or might go
Balotelli
Joe Allen
And so on my point being I understand we have a massive squad that needs to be trimmed and that klopp likes a smaller squad .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Jul 2016 21:46:11
Wisdom, Ilori will go. Enrique has gone along with Rossiter and McLauglin. Two players loaned out, Markovich and Alberto will go and after all that the squad maybe still too big. Allan may also go out on loan.

03 Jul 2016 22:00:59
Allan will go on loan as he is not eligible for a work permit yet .

{Ed002's Note - He has already gone.}

03 Jul 2016 22:13:05
He was at saint truiden for the remainder of the season ed he is back he was at pre season training yesterday in melwood.

{Ed002's Note - He is going on loan again.}

03 Jul 2016 22:14:16
ed002, where has Allan gone? I read on the club website that he took part in the first pre season training session after returning from Sint-Truiden.

{Ed002's Note - It has been agreed he is going on loan - they have not agreed where.}

03 Jul 2016 22:19:11
Am I mistaken in thinking he was at melwood? I think I heard you say or maybe read it somewhere, that he might be going back to south America on loan am I right in thinking that?

03 Jul 2016 22:20:11
Foe the leavers list you can add:

Bodgan
Wisdom
Markovic

Foe the loans list

Ward
Fulton
Awoyini.

03 Jul 2016 22:24:37
And ed last question I know the points system and the points required for a work permit in the uk, how come allan could be loaned to a Finnish team though, do they not require as many points or did he not require a permit for Finland?

{Ed002's Note - The rules vary country to country.}

03 Jul 2016 22:33:14
Thanks ed mate.

That's 28 players Reynard. Yikes! What was the club thinking having so much on the books!

03 Jul 2016 20:15:59
Hi all users and fellow reds and off course eds, new user here just wondering what the possibilities be off bringing another CB with departure Toure, Skrtel imminent it seems and uncertainty regarding Sakho not to mention Ilori and others, in particular updates such as Jonathan Tah, Niklas Sule both seem like got real futures ahead off them cheers Eds .

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Yes they are both well thought of but not players Liverpool has made any approaches for Andy.}

03 Jul 2016 21:48:38
Thanks for reply Ed002, great site and trusted reliability always go too site In work and free time!

04 Jul 2016 01:49:23
Liverpool looked at Jonathan Tah but that's it.

03 Jul 2016 19:59:09
Hi eds.
Do you know what's the plan as far now?
Does klopp wants to partner emre can with a new player or play what we have?
Do you see lucas, allen, grujic or henderson setting up partnership with can?

Also are we interested in Ruben Neves?
Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Zielinksi is the target for midfield right now. Liverpool has not made any offer for Neves.}

03 Jul 2016 20:25:02
If we get him ed can you see him and Emre as the 2 centre mids behind the 3.

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea.}

03 Jul 2016 19:36:02
Haso klipperty been tapping up any other players recently!

Believable3 Unbelievable9

03 Jul 2016 18:38:30
Just wanted to ask what peoples opinions on Joe Allen are. It's been heavily reported that we are looking to sell, with our initial £10m valuation reportedly going up to £14m based on his form at the Euro's where he has been a stand out player, as well as his form from the end of last season.

I want to know whether anyone thinks that should stay, and potentially start in midfield. Would you have him in a midfield 2 with the likes of Can, or a 3 to accommodate Hendo. Or just sell him and push to get more than the £15m we paid for him, which could be done considering how well he is playing.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

03 Jul 2016 18:55:23
He has had a good Euro. So now is the time to cash in and move on. Liverpool will get a good fee and Joe Pirlo will hopefully get to play regular football. Good luck to him.

03 Jul 2016 19:11:51
A midfield three would mean dropping one of coutinho firmino or mane, so no. He has decent games, but there is no need for him to be at Liverpool. With gruijic coming in and is clearly looking to add another, he has to go.

On another note, I'd be happy if we also sold lallana and Milner and kept marko. We won't need to rotate too much next season, with less games, but a choice origi Ings markovic and ojo off the bench is enough for me going forward.
Then for two cm spots we have can hendo gruijic Lucas Stewart and the younger ones, and that is plenty. Maybe in big games we can play three in the middle, say hendo can and Lucas/ Stewart, but that still leaves two on the bench, again plenty.

03 Jul 2016 19:26:34
Up to the manager, decent squad player but were overloaded with players.

03 Jul 2016 19:49:21
I have always liked Allen. He would be a great player to keep as a squad player. Certainly a player who would be very very useful off the bench and even from the start when 1st choice are missing. I think he might want to move on and become a regular in another team though.

03 Jul 2016 21:01:00
No. He is a good lad but this is our chance to recoup as much as we can. People have short memories and the matter of the fact is he just isn't good enough to start for a team with aspirations of top 4 and beyond.

03 Jul 2016 22:05:50
I believe if he was too agree being squad player then so be it otherwise as other users above said time is definitely right cash in following impressive euros so far and if goes wish him all best just never for me going to get us were I'd hope we can be as a starter.

05 Jul 2016 10:08:31
i think he'd be great for Leicester as they sit back so the play is in front of him and he can buzz round chasing the ball and there is always support close by. For us we play higher up so when someone chases the ball and loses out it leaves a hole to be exploited. We need players with huge intelligence and great anticipation to play our system and I'm afraid Joe falls a bit short. I do like him though and I'm sure if he picks the right club/ manager he will be a great asset to whichever club he ends up at.

03 Jul 2016 17:54:16
Klopp, as one of top managers in world football, could have gone to teams with bigger budgets.

Did Klopp come to Liverpool fully understanding the financial restrictions and the fact we won't be going out and buying the likes if Pogba etc?

Believable1 Unbelievable9

03 Jul 2016 18:34:33
Obviously.

03 Jul 2016 18:49:15
Financial restraints?
We spend money like water and have done for years, haven't we just £34+ million on one player not to mention the others?

03 Jul 2016 19:08:45
It's not like Klopp doing the job for free mate he does get paid lol. If you're happy finish 6th 7th 8th than good for you but some of us what to see some good players and try to win the league.

03 Jul 2016 18:10:10
Of course he did.

03 Jul 2016 18:10:26
He has already spent more here than he spent in his first 5 years at Dortmund. I'm pretty sure he can cope with a meagre £50m a summer!

03 Jul 2016 18:13:25
I think you only need to look at our history to see that we have never went for the likes of Pogba. i'm 100% certain Klopp knew that too.

03 Jul 2016 18:27:40
One of the most pathetic posts i have seen in a long time. Hopefully trolling?

03 Jul 2016 19:31:55
It's not about how much the fee is its more about wages and at this moment in time we can't compete.

03 Jul 2016 23:24:44
I would really love to know where fans get this idea that we don't spend money. We are always one of the top spending clubs. Okay we have pulled off a few big sales to balance these but every club is the same. And not going out and buying Pogba. Well he would not have many options if he was to go to a club that could buy him.

03 Jul 2016 15:50:46
Eds, what was your take on Smicer and Bergers time with LFC. I used to think Berger was amazing, but looking back he was inconsistent and I used to think Smicer was awful, but now I think I didn't appreciate him as I should have.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Paddy was a great lad, always took time out to chat, was incredible on the ball and me mam had a huge crush on him so there were posters and calendars of him all round the house. You are right though, for all his quality, he was very inconsistent for us, often down to niggling injuries.
Smicer was really a very similar story, apart from not being me ma's crush.}

03 Jul 2016 18:11:53
Cheers Ed. both found memories and although I was a lot younger when they played, I don't recall them being any hassle off field. Maybe lot less media in those days and money, but it seemed we had more genuinely nice people (players) at the club.

{Ed001's Note - Paddy B in particular was genuinely nice, I can remember him having a kickabout on more that one occasion with us. Smicer always seemed a nice lad too. Both had genuine affection for the club as well.}

03 Jul 2016 20:05:54
Always remember them letting me go on a rolla coaster with them at Southport when I was a kid.

03 Jul 2016 20:06:09
I loved paddy berger as a kid. Had some left peg on him. I used to always get his name on my shirt. How ironic I was a fat kid with berger on my shirt 😂.

03 Jul 2016 20:50:08
Loved paddy Berger was the 1st player I ever got not the back of my top the cream one lol. Him an smicer obv love the club playing in all the leg tournaments.

03 Jul 2016 20:51:05
Remember Berger and Owen scoring in a 2-0 victory in my first ever visit to anfield.

03 Jul 2016 21:50:17
Belfast Adam. That's the shirt I had it on as well. Loved it back then. Wer in Belfast r u?

03 Jul 2016 17:04:35
Both cracking players, what a shot Berger had on him, Vlad was superb in Istanbul, so both legends.

03 Jul 2016 19:15:05
Gotta say apart from Istanbul, never really took to Smicer, felt he was more injury prone and more inconstant than Berger. Berger I'd did like but has Ed said he was inconsistent and them niggling injuries were really annoying.

{Ed001's Note - Smicer had lots of injury problems, some down to dental issues, which the club did not deal with. In France clubs do (or did back then anyway) look after players' dental health as it can badly affect their fitness. One injury Smicer suffered was down to an abscess in his gum, which caused health issues which plagued him for a long time. Preventative care could have gone a long way to keeping him fit.}

03 Jul 2016 19:28:33
Agree with Jones, Smicer went from zero to hero with one shot for me. 😄.

03 Jul 2016 15:43:31
If you haven't noticed, there is a new link added to the top links menu called 'Sightings', which is the Liverpool Player Sightings page with the image upload section at the bottom of that page.

Eds trying to find maccas most recent comment.

Have entered macca and pogba in search field, but still no luck.

What did he say?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed033's Note - We do have a Macca Liverpool rumours page, which you could add to your browser favourites and visit when you want to look at Macca's posts.

Unfortunately, Macca doesn't post as much as he used to so the permanent link to his page on the top links menu was removed.

03 Jul 2016 14:56:01
Hi Ed's

Whats your opinion overall on Kewell's time with us?

That was one of the signing that got me excited very much. But he never played like his time in Leeds and with his injuries finally ended in big dissappointment.

what's your take on him?

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - awful, he had plenty of ability but failed to show it with us at all, even on those incredibly rare times he wasn't 'injured'. One of the worst signings we have ever made.}

03 Jul 2016 15:18:07
think it was a case of I've signed for Liverpool "ive made it"? it still feels like that now with some players to me. think it was Mickey Thomas who had the same idea? ( asked Shanks to crack open the whisky when he was signing but Shanks tore up the contract an chased him) later to sign for mancs.

03 Jul 2016 15:35:28
Is it the case of him reaching his peak with leeds and never improving on it?

or

he had one good season with them and never was able to produce the form?

or read somewhere that though Viduka and him were from Aus, there was intense competition between then whule at Leeds and once he came here he wasn't bothered to prove anthing.

03 Jul 2016 16:06:46
Ed. do the inverted commas insinuate he was soft and almost faked injuries?

{Ed001's Note - he was very soft mate.}

03 Jul 2016 16:06:46
Ed. do the inverted commas insinuate he was soft and almost faked injuries?

{Ed001's Note - he was very soft mate.}

03 Jul 2016 17:11:17
He was quite sensational at Leeds though. One of many fav players at Leeds.

03 Jul 2016 23:00:37
It was probably coincidental but it did seem that he would produce his best form in the last year of his contract. Certainly there is a perception in Oz that he was soft and prone to blaming others for his misfortunes.

03 Jul 2016 13:07:17
Hi Eds.
If liverpool can't get the deal for Zielinski to go through do we have any other potential central midfield targets and if so who are they?
Many thanks,
Charlie.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Zielinski is the target and the club know what they have to do to buy him.}

03 Jul 2016 14:31:08
What do they have to do Ed? Overspend an apologise?

03 Jul 2016 13:33:13
When we are linked to a player that we don't know to much about we are are all guilty of checking them out on YouTube . Well just looking at a montage of couts and if he wasn't our player I think we would just be like wow and that his price would be beyond us. Really hope he stays.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

03 Jul 2016 12:41:03
Alright lads, United fan in peace. Like keeping an eye on the other pages aswell as our own. Over the last few years I've noticed you all take Macca very seriously in what he says. I just wondered who is he? He obviously has links somewhere, is he an ex player, or friends with current players etc? And also how often is he correct in what he says? Obviously I've seen his post regarding us and Pogba and I'm just curious as to how much substance is really behind it? Cheers boys.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

03 Jul 2016 12:52:49
Macca has been coming here for years and has generally been spot on. His rumours carry a lot of substance so much so he had his own page here for a long time. Obviously he's not posting too much on here anymore but if Macca had said we were getting Pogba it's safe to say we would all be creaming ourselves about now.

03 Jul 2016 13:00:54
I would put money on it. He seems sure on this one.
He's right or at least half right nearly all of the time, things sometimes fall through but he's obviously better connected than every single journalist out there it seems.

03 Jul 2016 13:01:25
Hi Stand.

Macca has a very good record of getting things spot on regarding the game we love.

Nobody here except I believe Ed001 actually knows who he is. It is widely believed he is an ex player though. Probably because we've had the likes of McAteer, McManaman, McCalister etc down the years.

None of us posters know for sure though. If he says Pogba is joining United, I believe Pogba is joining United!

03 Jul 2016 13:06:09
Nobody knows who he is he's a poster that at one point had his own page on here. Personally I'd say he's no more informed than anyone else on here he occasionally gets things right and often gets things wrong. He also uses phrases like 'don't be suprised' or 'things change'. As a regular on this site for years I've known entire Windows go by without him posting (and we've signed 7 players that window) . In my opinion he usually only posts things we already know from the eds but perhaps predicts the next step. Walcott, goetze, tello, takeover are some that haven't came out but some like borini and some others that I've forgotten the names of but there are definitely more he's been right on. I'm sceptical but I value his posts more than 80% of the posters and only slightly less than the eds. The nature of the game is if he's right everyone says he has links if not people are sceptical I've seen enough times he's wrong to be sceptical.

03 Jul 2016 13:17:56
I don't get why MACCA would post on the Liverpool page who Man utd will buy. Seems strange to me.

03 Jul 2016 13:30:52
Cheers for the replies.

03 Jul 2016 14:15:41
Stand if Pogba signs I can only see it going the same way as Di Maria.

03 Jul 2016 15:10:25
Can't see united getting him if Madrid start sniffing around.

03 Jul 2016 15:11:43
I thought he wasn't good enough for the mancs.

03 Jul 2016 15:26:08
Macca is more unknown than the stig mate.

03 Jul 2016 17:40:19
I am Macca. Sorry ment Keyser Sose.

03 Jul 2016 17:40:19
I am Macca. Sorry ment Keyser Sose.

03 Jul 2016 17:27:38
It doesn't matter who they are ( Macca and Eds ) what it really matters are the info they pass on which are absolutely spot on.

03 Jul 2016 18:32:07
I put a nifty fifty on Pogba at 6-4 after maccas post, he's often right. YNWA.

03 Jul 2016 19:01:24
I always thought Macca was Steve McManaman. Could be just putting 2 + 2 together and getting 10 though :P.

03 Jul 2016 12:11:24
Does anyone else on here really hope markovic gets a chance to impress in preseason? I know the eds have said he'll probably leave but I would prefer to have him as a backup to mane and couts than say lallana. Think he has real potential and was unlucky to get Brendaned and wasn't to shabby even when played out of position. I Think he deserves another chance.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

03 Jul 2016 12:32:59
Nope. He does not have the quality to make the upgrade.

03 Jul 2016 13:04:10
Doesn't seem like he impressed at all on his loan, mane is his replacement.

03 Jul 2016 13:07:12
I would much rather have Lallana than Markovic. Lallana is not a great player, but he is good at what he does. That being press well and chip in occasionally in the final third. Markovic might be 5 years his junior, but has shown me nothing to believe his output in the final third will ever surpass Lallana's, and he certainly doesn't press as well. Added to that, Markovic has now had injury problems creeping in to his game.

Markovic is a nice lad, clearly has the right attitude, and is not a terrible player. He is just pretty average though. I can't expect to be considered impartial if I argue that Depay is average and then the next day let bias creep in and suggest Markovic is anything more than that.

03 Jul 2016 13:48:46
Markovic ability is in final 3rd with that killer pass. But becuase he is pacy people think he is winger. He is no winger. Klopp will need to use him in correct position.

03 Jul 2016 14:32:42
Lee i think his passing is one of the biggest weaknesses in his game personally. I think his greatest strengths are his speed and dribbling ability. When he gets going he is hard to stop fairly. He just doesn't have any final ball. His shots are weak, his crossing is very average (so i agree with you he is not a winger; he should probably play on the left so he can cut inside) and his passing is poor.

In my opinion, he will never be at the level we require to challenge for titles. Ojo is already better than him, and he's 4 years younger.

I'm not saying Markovic is useless. He just isn't as good as the options we have. Just being young doesn't necessarily mean he will improve drastically either. In the last 2 years he has regressed. Some players just never fulfil their potential and I believe Markovic will be one of those players. I promise you I'll apologise if he ever goes to a top league and proves me wrong.

03 Jul 2016 15:11:28
Markovic was NEVER used in his correct position by Rogers. So it's not fair to judge.

03 Jul 2016 17:39:11
Lallana should be a back to Markovic and should have been last season except Brenda's and some people here who thought YOU don't NEED PACE on the flanks.
Markovic is a winger who has breath taking pace and intelligence in his game. He is head and shoulder above Ojo, Ibe and Lallana.

Recent weeks were fairly quiet in the Couts and Sturridge's front. I know it is only the beginning of July but any chances this means they are both likely to stay? I have zero expectations for next season without them and not very high hopes if only one of them is going. If both are staying plus Mane and the defensive signings there is at least something to look for.

Eds, I'm just interested to know if there are any other pages on here where the club fans aim sniping comments at the editors, players, managers, and even each other so frequently?

I'm getting embarrassed by it now. There is a fine line between banter and sniping. Everyone here is guilty of it at some stage.

People on here are just constantly setting the Eds against each other and Macca. Or brutally attacking players and managers with vitriol, rather than constructive criticism. Or picking holes in each others posts.

I know it is getting to a fair few posters as we have lost people on here who were excellent posters and I am certain that they've left due to the shocking abuse. Macca doesn't even post that often anymore because he gets so much stick if he is wrong. Ed002 has taken multiple breaks from the page due to the sniping he is subjected to. Ed001 is the only Ed who seems to have the patience to deal with us now. We've driven the others away. I can't remember the last time Ed023 posted on this page. I can only hope it is due to other commitments and not us driving him/ her away.

I miss the days where we were all friends and if we had a disagreement it was settled with a well mannered discussion. Nowadays everyone (and I include myself in this) is constantly on the defensive because there are just so many people on here who try and get under the skin of others. I genuinely thought the whole username thing would improve it, but I actually think it has made it worse. When everything was anonymous people couldn't hold grudges, and trolling was just swept under the carpet. The Editors did that so we could put a name to the opinions and yet it's just been turned into a tool to bully others. The same with the disagree button. I see that function constantly abused, even on posts about Hillsborough which is frankly sickening.

It is really sad that after everything the Eds have done (free of charge) to improve this site for the users, we have ALL done our best to drag it down and turn every positive into a negative.

So I just want to make a plea to everyone on here, please just try and be civilised towards each other and the editors at least? Even the editors have become more defensive now because they have endured a ridiculous amount of abuse.

If you want to slam players for poor performances, I don't want to stop you. Otherwise we'll lose the diversity of opinion on here. There is no need to slag off our players constantly without ever being able to provide a legitimate reason though. It is so disheartening when the same poster will go down the whole banter page twisting every single thread into an opportunity to slag off the same player every time.

I love this site. It is pretty much the only place I can find people who love football and in particular Liverpool as much as I can. But it is getting really draining. I think we all (again, myself included) need to make a collective effort to make the editors lives easier, and to treat each other with respect at the very least. We don't have to agree, but we don't have to be horrible!

03 Jul 2016 12:00:06
Agree!

03 Jul 2016 12:00:43
Well said.

Problem is, how are you going to pacify the old-school who live in the past and want it all, compared to the new-wave fan who don't understand the past yet still want it all?

I myself fall under most of your points in reference to things that are wrong with a Liverpool fan, yet forums are about discussion and opinion, and the contrast to opinions give it an edge.

It would be boring if we all agreed, but it would be nice if we were all less aggressive.

03 Jul 2016 12:21:09
All very good points Davey. The new and old fans have very varying opinions on the game. But at some point in the past on here, someone or something has just instigated a divide that is slowly growing and now it has just gone too far. I myself have more than contributed to this divide. Only yesterday I was rather unfairly telling people to get with the times and stop living in the stone ages. I regret it instantly, but when you have people calling you ignorant you get aggressive back. It's wrong and immature but we all do it now.

There is literally nobody on here I can absolve of any blame in the decline of this site except probably ed033, because he just pulls the programming strings in the background. But we have made the likes of Ed002 more defensive and aggressive in their replies by being nasty towards him/ her. What did we all expect when he/ she gives us inside scoops for free only to get verbally assaulted? It is unfair and we've created a beautiful monster! (Ed002, don't get too excited at me calling you beautiful though darling) .

We still need that contrast in opinion, but how often do you see someone say "I disagree with your point, but I understand what you are saying and respect your views" (or words to that effect)?

Rarely, if ever!

Yet if you were down the pub having a face to face discussion, we wouldn't turn on each other. We'd say exactly that!

It will take a long time to get this site back to what it was, but if we don't start at some point, it will never happen. I'm going to try my best from now on. I'm sure I'll have lapses because it has become the nature of this site to argue!

It isn't just on this site either to be fair. In the stands, there is a clear divide amongst fans. That's down to us all to rectify though.

03 Jul 2016 12:34:58
Well said Davey in short and succinct way.

03 Jul 2016 13:50:29
MK, your comments this morning were made from a point of ignorance though, you don't gamble so don't know the effects it has on family's and people who gamble in general, it was not an attack on you for having an opinion you were trivialising about an addiction you've no experience of, it really is that simple.

If you were to then say " your correct, maybe I've made an error of judgment with my post there ", people myself included would have replied to you in a positive manner thus creating the utopian banter page your looking for kid.

03 Jul 2016 13:51:57
Here here! couldn't agree more with MK, I rarely post but visit the pages daily for the last 2-3 years, I remember reading the different views back then and the place was allot more civil, and was exactly as this sub forum says, it was Banter. Banter is funny old thing though, because it can very easily turn into aggression and nastiness, even if that was not the original intent.

I think the fans have become divided. There are the new wave of fans who want instant success, and those who can see that success takes time to develop, and i think the fact that we have been waiting for success for soo long and have come close for a few years and then fallen behind again has led to many fans becoming soo frustrated, with the manager, the players, the fans, the owners etc. But it isn't just on this site that the fans feel this way, you can feel it in the stands, I remember growing up in the 90s as a kid, and being from Ireland was hard to see any matches (if any) but the ones i did see, I remember the fans were always one voice, one union, was all for one and one for all, it made me proud to be liverpool fan, in a time when all my friend swere Man Utd fans due to their success in the 90s. and that feeling in the fans remained that way until I would say 5-7 years ago, towards the end of Rafa's reign. The songs got quieter, I would say Suarez chant has been the last one we have made as fans.

Back to this site, I rarely post because I try my best to use the search button for any questions I have, and I think if every poster did that would help an awful lot to ease the tensions. Everyday I see the eds having to say "Read the Posts" hourly compared to daily. everyday I check Macca to see if he has posted because, i rarely have seen him be wrong if ever. I truely value to contribution the Eds make, and primarily flick down through the posts to see what the eds may say.

I thank the eds, and hopefully you can continue to do the great work you do, may the small minority of posters on here see the same. As the man once said "Why can't we all just get along? " And our own motto, You will never walk alone, we need to live that daily and stick together.

03 Jul 2016 13:59:33
If we respected each other's opinions then it wouldn't matter which era we remember. All opinions are valid whether we agree or not as that's just what they are. Different opinion makes for debate and you can debate without resorting to abuse. I respect a lot of people's views on here, Davey's, MKscouser and yes even Harry's, this doesn't mean I have to agree with them all the time but I strongly believe our own opinions are formed so strongly within us because we want the same thing. For LFC to be successful and a league title would be nice lol.

03 Jul 2016 14:51:09
Waro I have seen it too mate. And I nearly destroyed my own life with an alcohol addiction at just 17 years old. Someone I spent 3 years of my life virtually living with committed suicide just last year due to financial troubles caused mainly by a smoking and drinking addiction.

This is what I mean, you are just assuming I'm being ignorant when I'm not. I've seen it first hand and been there myself. I just don't think it being on our training kits will make a difference. If someone wants to bet they will do it anyway in my opinion.

I'm not saying you are wrong buddy. I'm just disagreeing that we shouldn't let a betting company sponsor us for moral reasons. Or we should also turn down beer, banks and doughnuts!

I am sorry for my comments about you being in the stone ages. You just have a different opinion to mine and I should've been mature enough to accept that. But I assure you I am not ignorant to the damage that can be caused by addiction. Also whilst i have never bet more than £1 on football, I have made the mistake of spending £60 (which is about a day's wages for me) in 15 minutes in a casino. Not to mention spending £100 in a single night betting at the Peterborough Greyhound tracks. £160 might not be much to some, but it was to me at the time!

I know full well the damage it can cause and I'm sorry to hear it's affected someone you know. And especially sorry for shooting you down as just being old fashioned. I was wrong to essentially say your opinion was wrong just because it differed from mine.

03 Jul 2016 14:51:53
Good post btw natural poolie.

03 Jul 2016 14:52:22
Agreed Kevlaw!

03 Jul 2016 14:54:42
Fair enough, I think that's what we all want and the reason there's so much divide is because there has been so much failure for the club in recent years and supporters have different opinions on how to solve it. The problem is, nowadays you give an opinion and anyone who doesn't agree with you says you don't know anything about football, or start suggesting things that aren't true and it's just an attempt at bullying, and I'm sorry, but I've seen it from you plenty of times. Your opinion isn't any better than anyone else's even though you think it is. There's a few others like you that constantly try to be contrarians and go against the common opinion of most of the fans. Not saying it is all the time, but it's a fair few times, and I've seen the same thing from ed01. So when people see ed01 doing it they quickly adopt his opinion and follow suit and who is to say ed01 is always right?

I know a lot of the eds and others have suffered a lot of abuse and that is probably why they react in this manner so we only have ourselves to blame, but they also contribute to the slating of current players and criticising fans opinions and they can't say they don't because there's loads of examples of it. I love this site as much as you and the others do, it gives us a platform to talk to other Liverpool supporters and express our opinions but everyone is at fault here. there's probably no way to stop it now, the only thing that will bring the fans together is success of some sort on the pitch and it's about damn time that has happened. With years and years of 'transition' and constantly spending money on average players, the fans have had enough. I'm not saying it's right or it's a good thing, but that's how it is now. Unfortunately I'm part of the same animal and it won't change anytime soon I don't think.

03 Jul 2016 15:07:03
I know I have Kman and that is basically what I'm owning up to with this post.

I've gotten so much stick down the years for this myth that I excessively rely on stats that I am short tempered nowadays when people disagree with me and start being offensive. So occasionally I just lead with the offensive because I'm expecting it back.

It's not isolated to just a few posters though. It is literally all of us.

03 Jul 2016 15:35:52
Reds - we are exactly that- reds. ALL of us! ! Some older- i'm 53- some younger. Some remember the great teams- football- players- success. Younger ones more recent times. Reds are some of the most knowledgeable fans around. We know our footy. We have a fantastic sence of humour. But a lot if not most of everything in life is opinion- including footy. let's respect others opinions- gave a laugh- sharecour rumours- enjoy our - BANTER. Support our club - players- manager- owners- but mist of all EACH OTHER. Respect. YNWA. Godbless the 96.

03 Jul 2016 17:05:32
Not a problem MK, all addiction is a curse so to trivialise one just got my back up a touch, if someone on here stated they had a problem with dunkin donuts sponsoring us because of food addiction i may been sceptical myself and laughed it off, but if someone told me a story on the effects of food addiction i may look at it in a different way.

03 Jul 2016 17:06:47
A huge problem is as some have said, we expect the fame and fortune of years gone by as some have said and yes a lot of frustration. Add this to the expectation of instant success and this just breeds frustration but none of these excuses mean there is a need for disrespect and abuse. Yes we all vent our frustrations but you can get this across without abusing others, be it other posters or the eds. We have huge United respect for the 96' for justice if we could spread this across to each other we could have the best fans in the world again. Yes disagree but ALWAYS RESPECT!

03 Jul 2016 18:16:57
Agreed Waro.

03 Jul 2016 11:42:25
Looking at all these players return from loan, there seems to be no better time to sell them when you look around at all the massively inflated prices!
Andre Wisdom must be valued at 10 mil. Might even make a profit on Illori.

Jon stones 50 mil. Give me a break. Dwight Gayle. How much!?!?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

03 Jul 2016 11:56:31
Stones is a completely different matter to most players on market. He is very young and has a huge amount of potential as a defender and a footballer. That plus nationality makes him something worth paying a lot for. Just my opinion but the only reason I can see why Smalling were persevered with was Rooney's influence because Stones out of form is a better player. I'd be more than happy to see Stones in a Liverpool shirt based on his ability and potential - he's a player a top side should get 10 years out of. Not a bad investment when people could be paying 20-30M for a guy with 2-3 years left in them.

Neither Wisdom nor Illori has much in the way of EPL level on their CV to sell them on. Honestly cannot see anyone paying even £5m for either of them. Even if an EPL side wanted them it would be a bottom end of table side who won't spend big on them.

{Ed001's Note - what is so good about Stones defensive ability? I have yet to see that he has anything other than pace and height, in terms of defensive ability. Be interesting to see how he gets on under Koeman, because right now he needs to learn about positioning and responsibility.}

03 Jul 2016 12:32:18
If I was Everton and someone offered a huge sum, I'd snap it up. You may end up with a 40 mil defender one day, or and English David Luiz it's looking likely. I wonder what he could be like and cdm.

03 Jul 2016 12:36:24
Wisdom is a better defender than Stones in my opinion. Stones is marginally the better player though. Rodgers wrecked Wisdom with careless loans. First making him play under the dinosaur Pulis, then under the dinosaur in training, Alex Neil.

However Stones has profited from a lot of media hype that stems from his excellent ability on the ball. His on the ball ability for a centre back is up there with the likes of Hummels.

Who would I rather have at centre back though? Wisdom every time right now. Stones has given me nothing to suggest he is a future stalwart.

The guy i think is the best young English centre back right now is Ben Gibson of Middlesbrough. Only 23 years old and last season having became a regular as the season went on they lost just 3 games in the 33 he featured in. I saw him a handful of times because everyone was raving about our old youth player Ayala. But Gibson was making Ayala's job so much easier.

Stones is a good young player, but he is vastly over rated. I'm very keen to see if Gibson can step up to Premier League football next season though.

Ed001, your opinion of Alan Shearer as a player?

- Krishna.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he was very good at what he did, not just scoring goals but holding off players with his physical strength and intimidating presence. He was well known for sorting out issues face to face, he was a genuinely hard player who most were scared of, and he used that to his advantage. He would leverage that fear to gain space and give him the chance to put the ball into the back of the net. Technically good, but it was mainly about his physicality and Fellaini-like ability to get away with the repeated use of his elbows to put opponents off.}

03 Jul 2016 07:40:10
Someone once told me that it is defenders that should be scared of strikers and not the other way around when I was a young CF. I never believed him then. This is further proof that he was right.

03 Jul 2016 08:28:51
Awesome player Shearer, also took some balls to go and play at his hometown team when Man United came knocking - he'd have won a heap of medals if he'd have gone there instead he got nothing of I recall correctly.

03 Jul 2016 09:58:06
Growing up as a 5ft nothing striker, I learnt a lot of dirty tricks.

On corners I regularly would 'accidentally' stamp on a few toes or swing my arm and hit someone in the balls! It was the only way I could stop them pulling my shirt or elbowing me etc.

Another really annoying thing big lads do is obstruct you. I was lightening quick so bigger lads got left for dead. Thus, the only way to stop my was to step across the front of my. Thing is I got sick of their dirty tricks, so whenever someone did that to me I would just charge into the back of them but time my stride perfectly so that my knee slammed into the base of their spine. No defender did it twice to me in one match!

The worst thing I probably did though was deliberately run in to goalkeepers. If they came off their line to collect the ball, I would just carry on running and clatter them. It would make them scared to come out again. I stopped that one though after I had a Petr Cech moment and knocked a guy clean out as my hip smashed into his temple.

It was all down to my dads input. He stood on the side lines every week and at about 13 years old he had to carry me into the house because a team from Corby (anybody who's had that misfortune will no exactly what they are like) had literally kicked me off the pitch. So he sat down with me and said I needed to stop playing fair, and fight fire with fire. He didn't tell me what to do specifically, just told me to give as good as I got.

The problem is, defenders and keepers play dirty. When they already have such a huge size advantage, you have to play even dirtier. At the top level of football nowadays it is different because refereeing is so good they spot the dirty play most of the time. So top pros have no excuse to be dirty now. The only thing refs are still terrible at spotting is shirt pulling and diving though.

However in Shearers day and at grassroots level the refereeing was so lenient and poor that you had to do things that you're not proud of. If a defender went in hard to deliberately leave something on you, it was just "a cracking Sunday league tackle". So you have to fight back or you go home limping.

03 Jul 2016 12:34:38
Most refs would give a nudge on a defender in the box but not vice versa too.

03 Jul 2016 17:59:34
A rare Pundit who knows what he is talking. His analysis of the game is really good. Completely Unbiased pundit.
A fine striker in my view as a player.

03 Jul 2016 19:32:27
Shearer: good finisher and a bit of a thug. Ideal combo for an English striker.

03 Jul 2016 06:55:07
Is it just me or has anyone else been bored to death with Euros 2016? I have not completed one single game without falling asleep. Matches back here in India start at 12:30 AM and all i can say is I have lost valuable sleep trying to watch whatever it is the national teams are trying to do.
I really miss the premier league. It may not have the technical ability of other leagues, but the thrill, suspense and pace of the game really draws me to it.

03 Jul 2016 07:43:23
It's just you, mate. I have watched some great games. Every Wales and Iceland game has been high energy and end to end. The Croatia v Portugal game was end to end especially in Extra Time and the Italy v Spain game was awesome as well and there others too so again it's just you, mate.

03 Jul 2016 09:38:47
Totally agree with Indian buzzer, the euros as not been great at all.

03 Jul 2016 10:58:52
What would you expect? After most of the players played 50+ games you expect quick football, up and down counters etc. Euro is played for resault, teams are evenly matched and i enjoy that! Best players of europe are there and tactically it is very good to watch for those who really like football. maybe a chance to see how a good tactics and team spirit wins you games and that you see that some of the English players are so overrated or they just don't care for their country. I noticed English guys don't care for their nacional team but if you are bad why would you take something off others who enjoy it!

03 Jul 2016 11:26:54
Enjoyed large parts of it.
Some games have been full though, depends how lucky you are.

03 Jul 2016 11:47:55
The Croatia-Portugal game was one of the worst I've ever watched. 117 minutes for the first shot on target. 2 hours of boring football with no attacking threat. End to end? Yeah they were at each others end once in the match. By no means has the tourney been bad, but to pick out the worst match as an example of its quality is mental. Portugal v Hungary though.

03 Jul 2016 11:48:34
indian buzzer, what part of india are you from mate.

03 Jul 2016 12:26:23
Mumbai. Why?

03 Jul 2016 17:37:42
I'll have to disagree with you, I love international football tournaments and usually watch as many of the games as I can.

There's not a lot of love on this page for international football but I don't get why. I just like watching football and seeing the worlds best go at it in a different format outside of their respective clubs and teams. It's more nationalistic and feels more authentic than they big money transfer teams we see now.

Last nights penalty shootout was great, some dire misses and a real roller coaster of emotions.

02 Jul 2016 22:21:57
Hi eds, thanks for keeping things real! I don't know who you are but congrats and respect! 😉

Quick question, lovren for captain? Read it someplace on the web. if him then who for vicecaptain. Really like hendo thought

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - I am not aware of any plan to change the captaincy. Are you sure it was not VC?}

03 Jul 2016 06:25:23
There would be a number of players in contention ahead of Lovren for both captain (if there is a change) and VC. Namely Lucas, Milner (sadly), Lallana maybe.

03 Jul 2016 07:16:54
Indian buzzer none of them would be in front of Lovern.

03 Jul 2016 07:44:03
Lucas would be ahead of Lovren.

03 Jul 2016 08:38:15
Lallana?

I can't think of anyone behind him in the queue except perhaps Balotelli 😄.

03 Jul 2016 08:55:41
Lallana was Southampton captain. Lovren was not. Irrespective of what u think of the player, he shows passion and drive unlike most of the players in the squad.

03 Jul 2016 09:45:40
Skrtel shows passion and drive yet is an aweful player. Do you want him to be captain too, Indian?

03 Jul 2016 10:11:10
Personally I'd keep Hendo but there's only 2 candidates Lovern and can. Before this drug ban maybe sakho.

03 Jul 2016 11:01:06
lucas in front of lovren? guy who will play 10 games (if he even stays) . i heard it is happening too as buvac and klopp see lovren as a main defender and definate starter and phisically best prepared player and proffesional. he is also loved by players.

03 Jul 2016 12:00:08
Surely one thing you expect with captain is some kind of certainty about playing, I appreciate not necessarily every game if club captain role but still can't see how Lucas would be captain when he struggles to get regular games.

03 Jul 2016 12:42:59
Hendo will remain captain. End of story.
As far as VC goes, i still see Lucas as the go to man (Milner's not a leader imo) for Klopp. He will not play much but will get game time when Hendo's not around so he would get the captaincy in Hendo's absence anyways.
I like Lovren but the guy has just had a good 6 months with us after a horrendous start. Why pile any sort of pressure on him now? Let him see out this season and if he does well, then give him the VC.

03 Jul 2016 18:00:31
Lucas is going out in the summer. So you could remove his name from the list.

03 Jul 2016 00:14:45
Hey ed001, got an interesting hypothetical for you.

We are both huge fans of Klopp and very happy we have him, but I was just wondering what it would take to get you to turn on him. So here you go.

Balotelli leads the line on opening day. You mad at Klipperty at this point? Haha.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - no, while it would not be my choice, so long as it works that is what matter.}

03 Jul 2016 05:39:35
Haha there's still a little part of me that wants balotelli to succeed at Liverpool. I know it is madness but I still want to see it. It really is impossible at this point.

{Ed001's Note - he is too much of a knob to earn success sadly.}

03 Jul 2016 06:49:27
Too late for Balo. No human being deserves so many chances at success while getting paid a bucket load of money for doing nothing in the last 5 years.

03 Jul 2016 07:45:34
Is the guy even interested in playing football? That should be the first question any coach should ask him because right now, it doesn't look like he does.

03 Jul 2016 01:04:57
Personally i do not care about sponsors too much in terms of ethics, we could be here moaning all day about all of them.

In my opinion sponsors should be chosen to some degree as to what looks right, professional and identifies with the club well, eg Barcelona choosing to be sponsored by unicef after no shirt sponsor in their history.

Sometimes shirt sponsors can improve the look of the kit and boost the profile of the club, the majority of sponsors do give clubs, teams and periods of history their own identity, in the case of liverpool, we all fondly remember the Candy kits. I personally do not think a betting company would match our image asthetically and would prefer to get a sponsor that compliments our image and style. Imagining 'Betway' plastered across the red jersey feels scruffy and wrong for our image imo, money ultimately talks but just a preference.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - So for a laugh and a break from the constant stream of Ed questions what sponsor would suit Liverpool, or any another club? I always thought Guinness would be a great sponsor for Celtic and put the Irish Harp on the front of the Hoops.}

I thought Carlsberg looked good on the kit. Maybe even something like CocaCola. (I'm just going for aesthetic value, ignoring the ethics and politics surrounding these companies) . I agree with you ed. Something like Guinness, Harp or even Ryanair would look decent on a Celtic top.

Coca Cola would be great. I love that stuff and it's logo has the same colours as our kit!

Best Liverpool sponsor. Red robin.

03 Jul 2016 06:41:20
Love to see Winners' Sports Nutrition sponsor us. Red shirts with 'WINNERS' plastered across them 👍🏻.

03 Jul 2016 07:01:09
Mars on the Napoli kit a la Maradona was class.

03 Jul 2016 10:01:41
Oooh not sure on Coca Cola. I know lots of people who's lives have been ruined by diabetes! ;)

I jest. I would like Coca Cola actually. I imagine that would be a real mega deal!

03 Jul 2016 12:10:30
To be different I'd go with Pepsi and have Pepsi MAX on the shirts.

03 Jul 2016 15:36:15
Gotta be Crown Paints.

03 Jul 2016 17:53:58
Durex for Man united's shirt 😂.

03 Jul 2016 18:20:41
Durex? I was thinking more Andrex. Seeing as I already use it to wipe me behind!

I'd just like to say that I can't quite fathom how any one can rate emre can when he can't even get in Germany's starting eleven its an absolute joke the sooner we get zeilinski in to replace him the better or even dahoud at least he's young or better still both as we could finally replaced henderson who doesn't even get in a team that loses to Iceland.

Believable3 Unbelievable23

03 Jul 2016 02:37:45
Ok mate, because Can doesn't play for the word champions he's rubbish.

And yeah because Roy Hodgson doesn't pick Henderson he's terrible as well, you know the manager who in his infinite wisdom took Jack Wilshere to the Euros.

Oh and the icing on the cake, we replace them with Zielinski who warms the polish bench, and Dahoud the uncapped German.

You're a genius mate, I think you and Brendan Rodgers would get on well.

03 Jul 2016 03:02:43
Although I agree the Can is quite overrated by a fair few on this site it is not always about the ability of a player but how they complement the starting 11. What you offer another side really doesn't always have much bearing on what can you offer Liverpool. As well not starting for Germany really isn't a stick to beat someone with.

03 Jul 2016 05:37:10
Yes you are correct.

He is highly overreted by fans and also by Klopp due to German angle I guess.

I quite liked the look of Can initially but he hasn't improved. The same number of opportunities if given to other youngsters. who knows what they might come up with.

Actually it takes a lot of courage to accept that one has got it wrong.

say Lallana - thought he would be great but have realized how poor he has turned out.

in fact even Clyne is also pretty average. But was very sure he would improve us before signing.

03 Jul 2016 07:51:53
How can you guys not tell he's trilling.

03 Jul 2016 07:56:21
Sami and Queen, you are talking nonsense. Queen, did you know that the great Cafu was a benchwarmer at the WC in 1994 and didn't get into the team until Jorginho got injured before the final? Did you know also that the great Roberto Carlos didn't even make the Brazilian team to the same WC? I guess he must have been useless too, by you logic. Moral of the story? Can isn't playing because the manager has gone with someone else which doesn't mean he's useless. It's called coaching decisions. If you ever played sports, you would know that coaches make such decisions. As Calm said, we are after Zielinski who can't even get off the bench for Poland who are not World Champs but you don't have issues with that do you? . Your logic makes no sense. Sami, u may not rate Can and that's fine but many of us rate him and think he can get better and the excuse you gave for him being picked because he's German shows that you have no argument at all.

03 Jul 2016 08:41:02
A few bites there Queen 😄.

03 Jul 2016 09:16:10
Queen was trolling folks, its funny how some were quick as lemmings to critisise our own player and put the boot in.

Can is making sufficient progress considering his age and will only get better from here on in.

03 Jul 2016 12:12:46
Far more relevant question for me, with Can is Germany seem to see him as a RB - considering Flanagan's injury record and personally I'm not sold on Clyne I'd be interested in seeing him there if we can get a solid midfield in place.

02 Jul 2016 20:46:41
Ed02

Can I ask you, how many players at the moment from Liverpool are involved in negotiations to leave the club?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - No idea.}

03 Jul 2016 02:24:25
Ok thanks, was just interested as
pre season began today and I shudder to imagine the no's of players back - soon to return and just joined, we really need to move players on asap that either are far from good enough beyond their stay (no disrespect) to any players.

We are really overloaded with players new and old at the moment.

To any of the current squad that will move on I do wish them the best no matter who they are and that includes Balotelli lol

Do you think Udinese will actually conduct business with us in regards zelinski even though we have behaved very badly in respect to his club of recent?
