Come on Ed 2 you know there are sad nameless individuals the world over don't let a person get in the way of decent people and banter.

Feel the love you know we love and respect you ignore the trolls god some time reading the posts I cringe as a Liverpool fan but then again I also wonder how many negative responses are from lfc fans or trolls

As the greatest 80's rock band said you have got to keep the faith

Chris r {Ed002's Note - I somehow missed the 80s Chris. Or at least the music.}

Those guys suck.

Miss the 80's No never! I cringe at the thought of myself in Le Coste trackies and white Reebook classics I looked like a Harry Enfield scouser, god no!

Dav {Ed002's Note - You should read it again Dav.}

Following on that last point about Lfc's potential budget. BR stated in the interview after the match tonight about needing 2-3 players of the calibre city have to be challenging at the top? To me, I believe that if suarez goes (its up in the air) plus the departures of reina, carrol and maybe more, BR Will look to bring in 2-3 top players around the 20m mark. I's say Our incomings could be a Top GK, CB, Experienced LB and Possibly" Top Striker. Makes sense to me'

Big Al

Why's it up in the air? do you actually Know that?

Henderson can become a great CM if he keeps improving his aggresive side to his game. He can defend, has great energy, is a good tackler and passer. IMO he can be a great player in a deeper defeinsive postion like busquets of bareclona. Sitting deep, aggressive disrupting play and passing beautifully whilst also nicking a goal. At 22 he can become a brilliant overall midfielder, the monster of a player we are missing in the middle. IMO he will suit best at lucas's role in the future and will be holding that spot.

Big Al

I agree and I was secretly pleased to see him get a yellow for an aggressive tackle. If he increases his tenacity he's going to be some player

cozinoz

I thought the same about the yellow.

Bit of speculation and optimism. Caroll sold will put 17m in the kitty, the sales of coates and reina will atleast increase our budget to around the 30m mark plus the 20m that FSG are putting in and that gives us a figure of around 50m. That amount might not be spent but will surely be available.
I love suarez as we all do but lads look at the bigger picture, if suarez does leave for juve or bayern (guardiola and the prospect of playing with falcoa with cl football) we will have another 50m in the budget. Its ifs and buts but potentially, we could become the biggest spenders in europe this summer?

Big Al

Looks like we'll need it if those players go.

Ozone

Yes big al we could become the biggest spenders in europe, losing 1 of the best players in europe. in which who would we replace him with the 100million. td

You do realise our net spend in the last 2 years is about 80m. Even allowing for the saving in wages FSG are going to want to balance the books without damaging the push for CL places. I think there's a 50-50 chance of Suarez going this summer. If he does go along with Reina, Coates, Downing, Carroll, Skrtel and Spearing we will have a lot of money to allow BR to mould his own squad. Damiao, Vorm, Williams, Rose, Eriksen/Sanchez/Mertens, Ince, Isimat-Mirin, Iborra and Will Hughes could all be bought for now and the future with the wage bill lowered and a profit on player sales.

Rather have Suarez and not spend any money at all.

Ridiculous banging on about Suarez I m convinced its rival fans. Ok you sell, loads cash in kitty. Your most likely not in Champs Leauge, so you have to convince players (who are most likely) to come. If their not every man and his dogs after them. And if you do get them theirs uncertainty they or the family will settle, they'll fit in with style etc etc. Were trying to build! I 'm sick of saying the same! People entitled to view and I respect as a rule, but are they stupid? I suggest not, their rival fans!

So Ozone, you would like to keep Reina, Coates and Caroll? Have any of them helped us this season? Will laugh my socks off when you try and blame FSG's lack of vision for selling Caroll. 17mil back for him is an absolute steal and good business by Ayre I feel. In reality he is probably worth about 10 mil tops. Agree with the original poster, we will have a chunk of money to spend in the summer. If we can use 50 mil wisely on a keeper, an experienced center half and another center mid then we are looking like one of the strongest teams in the league. Everyone will eventually be thankful to FSG for the money that they have put into the club and the way in which they have restructured our payroll. Have your opinions of them changed at all yet Ozone?

Fowler99

Read between the lines Fowler, that's not what I was getting at. It was the initial posters excitement at potentially being the biggest spenders in zeurope after disposing of. Quarter of the side including our best player. I'm no fan of Carroll. Check the search and while your at it check what I've had to say about Kenny seeing as you've made previous bold statements accessing me of denouncing him. It's Carroll who I've had issues with from the day we signed him.

Jackson martinez, James Rodriguez and neven subotic are brendans Rodgers top transfer. Priorities. In the summer.

04 Feb 2013 11:22:02
3 quality players, who I'd love us to sign
But doubt they would come to us, when we can't
Offer champions. League football.

Rodriguez and Martinez would not move to us and I doubt we could afford what would be a very large transfer fee for the pair. Subotic is a maybe but he's at the Borussia Dortmund - why would he want to move to us?

United have RVP, Rooney, Hernandez and welback. They have three top class striker' we have suarez and sturridge, borini is progressing. To challenge for a title you need goals and goals. If sturridge gets injured we rely in suarez and if he doesn't turn up we rely on players who are not used to banging in goals every game.
Another top forward would be welcome. Its probably not going to happen but I was giving my opinion.
On another note, I constantly hear Gareth Bale is as good as anyone etc, when he's banging in 70goals a season and consisently firing against the top teams I might compare to the messi's and ronaldos'

Big Al

Wellbeck is not a top striker, end of.

He meant hernandez

Was good to see us more direct and not playing around our own box as much!

03 Feb 2013 22:35:05
Eds do you think carra will be offered another contract? Because fo me I would rather see carra play in front of any of our other defenders he has been outstanding since he's came back in, and there's no way I would be putting skytel in in front if him, what's your thoughts ed {Ed001's Note - I don't think it matters, he will only stay if he gets to play first team footie, otherwise he will leave to get it elsewhere. I am not sure he would want to sign a new contract, even though he is currently in the team, he knows we are looking to bring in centre backs in the summer. I will miss Carra though, he has been a great servant to the club.}

Can you imagine the reception Carra would get if he came to Anfield with another team? Probably a standing ovation.

cozinoz

Would Carra not perhaps stay if a coaching role was provided for him? say 12 Month playing contract, or some kind of increased package if he plays as opposed to when doesn't, combined with coaching youngsters to start off with? {Ed001's Note - he already does some coaching work for us, but he wants to play footie. As he has shown in the last few games, he still has a lot to offer! He will stay if he can play, not to coach others, not yet, he is not ready to give up on the playing side.}

Eds there is no chance he will play for another club are you mad. He stated few months ago if he didn't play here thsn he wouldnnt play anywhere else it will always be Liverpool and if he can't play hell just hang up boots that's from the man himself eds. {Ed023's Note - He said what Ed001 was saying in his book. He wants to play football and I think he may well move on the summer.}

Carra won't go to another team. if he's not offered new contract then he'll retire. he said it last year {Ed001's Note - no he did not, he said quite clearly he would have no problem playing for another team. He has said so many times, that if Liverpool no longer need his services, he would like to continue to play at the top level.}

Love the way Hendo drives forward, at the minute he looks very very confident on the ball aswell as getting a lot of tackles in.

Impressed with Sturridge, but also equally with Suarez, maturely adapting to a new role which involves a fair bit if defending which he has never hAd to do with us, he's a real warrior.

Hope to see the same team starting the next game, maybe Sterling for Downing but would like to see Coutinho introduced on around 60 minutes to ease him in to English football and slowly introduce him to it and back from an apparent niggle and play just behind Suarez and Sturridge. Thoughts?

03 Feb 2013 22:20:12
Hey Eds, just wondering whether you had any info (or if not just your general opinion) on the begovic situation at stoke? I find it odd that stoke signed Butland and that Butland would rather sit on the bench at stoke rather than Chelsea? You think either Liverpool or Utd will go for begovic in the summer?

RedChris {Ed003's Note - Utd would be a good shout for him}

03 Feb 2013 22:02:35
I may eat my words but having lived in SOuth America I really think Suarez will stay even if we don't get CL football. As long as he is enjoying his football and more importantly his family are happy - he will stay. And that seems to be the case. Trust - we must all have a little faith.

03 Feb 2013 21:56:58
Eds with Pepe looking likely to be off in summer, do you think bringing in Brad Friedel be a decent move? I know he's in his 40s but he's in great shape and is as reliable as the come. He was shafted by AVB after Lloris signed for them

Aaron {Ed001's Note - no.}

Bit old mate now, you would have job find another keeper the season after so no, not a good idea at all

Isnt he pushing 70 now?

Then who's going to pay for friedel's zimmerframe?

03 Feb 2013 21:54:35
There are a lot already calling for a top class striker to arrive come summer. I deemed Sturridge as a squad player before he'd signed, but now after all of his performances, especially today, he is that top class number 9. He was wonderful today and completely unselfish at all times. Chelsea seem to be the gift that keeps on giving.

Him and Suarez can comfortably bang in 40 - 50 goals. Hopefully Borini, Gerrard, Henderson and Sterling/Downing/Ince can add up to 30 also. That will make us a real force again at the business end, as we're now seeing. It's obviously that we're lacking steal at the back in midfield but BR and his team will address that. A new keeper will obviously happen, Reina needs a change as do we. Left back needs strengthening as does centre half, with Coates surely off. Other than that maybe Ince for Assaidi and some experience in the middle of the park.

I'd like to congratulate BR and the whole team on today and against Arsenal in the week. We're finally going in the right direction and I can honestly see with a little more fine tuning and very strong end to the season and a big push on the top 3 next season.

Papa G

Where are all the sturridge haters?

Hear hear.

I just want to put things into perspective here. yes we have been a little unlucky at times this season. A top 4 side gets the points- its as simple as that. I was delighted with the performance BUT we will not be judged on performances, luck, nearly results - it will be on points. I am still on the fence with Rodgers and the system and his tactics at times. Spurs pulled further clear today. I really really hope that we can get some victories and take the 3 points in games. We need to finish at least 5th. If we finish any lower having spent millions and given BR a full season - it won't look good. I think we can do it. Whateve happens I am a bit sick of hearing all these guys critizising anyone saying anything negative as "not real supporters". I have been a pool fan over 30 years and even if they demoted to the 3rd division I still would be - but let's say it how it is and realise that this league and these games are only judgded on winning games and gathering points. YNWA

So Spurs scraping a 1-1 draw away to Norwich in the week was 'getting the points'? We played the champions off the park today in their own back yard! We are as good as any team challenging for 4th and we have easier fixtures. 4th is on! YNWA!

OP, you have every right to criticise if you want, this is the idea of these kind of sites and does n't make you less of a supporter.
But I would expect a fan of 30 years (that you claim to be) would appreciate its not easy getting a point away from home to the premier league champions.
Look I would agree with you we dropped silly points in November and December. but I don't think your post is appropriate after today's performance.

Roy

We have played all the top half of the league away from home as well

03 Feb 2013 21:51:58
Two good results. But not great we should of at least won one of those games. Silly goals cost us dearly in both games! Need a strong powerful centre half in the summer? Reina is always due a mistake. Problem is when keepers make them you usually pay. But I would of took two draws last week.

The last two games were good results, it's the points dropped at home and to so called lesser teams early on in the season that has let us down

03 Feb 2013 21:48:50
We were brilliant today but why oh why i'd BR make those subs? Sturridge shouldve stayed on to try and win the game. What on earth was the point of bringing Allen on? At least bring Sterling on and go for it. We c

This has been answered about 20 times already, HE WAS INJURED

Kelly Red

Sturridge was injured mate.

03 Feb 2013 21:40:34
If someone said a draw at city you would of took that all day long. Reina was partially at fault but wheres the defender? I think the point was well deserved. Hats if sturridge. all the talk been greedy and things. really impressed.
John a

Skrtel misjudged the diagonal but the danger was still minimal, as great of a servant as Reina has been that was a moment of madness that I'm sure he wishes he could do over.

04 Feb 2013 06:43:06
Need a top keeper and a class defender. We ain't far from the top teams and we have come a long way since the beginning of the season, just give this team sometime and they will come good

Juls

03 Feb 2013 21:40:12
Have to admit I was very sceptical about us signing Sturridge initially and bringing him to our club, especially for 12 million. I hold my hands up after today's performance. Fairplay lad.

I guess that's why Brendan Rodgers is the manager and not me.

03 Feb 2013 21:36:53
Not bad. We didn't win though-ergo losing points to the teams vying for the CL.

BR was at his fault for taking off Enrique for a sulky Skirtl.

We still haven't beaten a top side yet, so why all the crowing?

We played ok today that's it - nothing special, as we should be playing well every game - not just for when we play the big boys.

As for Reina - made a mistake, but we had chances throughout the game to score so as not to make his mistake cost us a win.

We used to celebrate winning not drawing!

Aim high, we should expect nothing less.

M

Sorry mate but Dominating city at there home ground is better then an 'ok nothing special' performance. Not many, if any teams will go there and do what we did and knowing we probably should have won is just another positive sign of where were at and heading. Get behind the club and rogers. Were on the up. !

04 Feb 2013 02:49:26
why is everything Brendans fault?
if suarez misses a sitter is that brendans fault for playing him and not let's say borini?
players have to do there bit.
im a big believer in what brendan is doing and will continue to do for a long time at this club!
even pundits are turning into possitive views towards our TEAM.

03 Feb 2013 21:35:53
Reina is brilliant wit has superb distribution. However he barely makes a save anymore - he should give up goalkeeping and play outfield!h both feet and

Yeah he distributed it perfect for aguero lol

03 Feb 2013 21:27:02
Great performance today. Well done lads. Sturridge was absolutely fantastic. We're all gutted about not getting the 3 points I know, but some definite signs of progress.

The fans and the team are all utterly disappointed that we've failed to beat the current champions in their own backyard due to a single goalkeeping error. That's definitely an improvement, our ambition and confidence are getting higher all the time.

Even if 4th spot is slightly out of our reach now, we all new it was going to be a transitional season. let's get behind the team and Rodgers, all the signs on improvement and progression are there, if you fail to see that after today's performance then you simply don't know anything about football.

I for one look forward to many more Liverpool games like today, (minus the individual errors obviously), it's something we'll hopefully stamp out over time.

Keep up the good work Rodgers and all you fellow reds fans, and the Eds obviously.

03 Feb 2013 21:22:20
One things for sure, we ain't boring anymore! lol. : -)

03 Feb 2013 21:21:48
Our performance as a team at the moment is as good as anyone in pl this season never mind out best games today was the best performance of the bpl all seasom to go to the champions and totally outplay them. But yet again mistakes cost us in particular reina 8 mistakes directly leading to goals this season simply isn't good enough. We wemt into this seasom thinking oh defence is fine in 2 months wev went from front to back. We are an outstandimg team were up there with chelsea arsenal tottemham but its our lack of mentalality of winning that is problem. Sort that and get a change of keeper.

03 Feb 2013 21:08:07
we played good today, why did allen come on for sturridge with 5 min left.?
1 class defender/ keeper/and winger needed and we will be force again.
there was believe today that we could win and we should have.
next year we will do better

Sturridge was injured and struggling by that stage,

His leg was bandaged and wrapped up in his post match interview, nothing serious though

Kelly Red

Sturridge was knackered and injured

03 Feb 2013 20:40:46
Roll on the west Brom game. If we play we did
Today they will take a serious hammering. Can't stress enough how impressed I am with sturridge.
With Gerrard back in form, Henderson getting better all the time, we are beginning to click as a team.

Click like a dodgy hip lol

03 Feb 2013 21:33:22
Yeah we should beat them if we play to our best.

But at the same time, I'm worried that we'll do what we've done a lot in the recent - fail to build on good performances.

Still, let's be optomistic, 3-0 to us.

- Something Red -

03 Feb 2013 20:37:34
Have a look at Liverpool's performance chart on the premier league website. Promising! The run in is pretty nice too.

http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/matchday/league-table.html

Come on - get behind the red men - come on. let's change out own destiny for the good.

We may lose today but we can potentially win all our remaining fixtures.

03 Feb 2013 20:36:43
Reina has been in shocking form this season. 25% of our goals conceded this season have come from Reina's errors. I feel much more comfortable with Jones in goal,

03 Feb 2013 21:15:09
25%? Talk about pulling numbers out of your rectum. Jones is just as jittery and error prone anyway.

That said, we need another 'keeper unless one of them shapes up.

- Something Red -

I agree, Reina has been poor in some games, other games he's made some amazing saves. I don't think Jones is good enough, sorry.

Agree with reina but disagree with jones

Guessing you didn't watch the Oldham game but yes we need a new gk

B*******!

The Irish Rover

Can't competely blame Reina, When a keeper is caught out of position like today it's up to the defenders to cover the goal line. . basic scool boy stuff

Bobbinred

Jones isn't good enough is fair enough but then again he's signed to be a backup

Ed001, providing we don't know the plans for the summer, I would welcome a top class striker. Defensively we know we will be getting recruits but I think that if we were to get in another 20plus goal scorer/attacker we could challenge at the top end. I woudn't mind hiquain or damiao providing chelsea don't sign him. Edd, who would you recomend and that would be actually viable for lfc?

Big Al

The problem is Big Al - neither of the people you mention would come to be bench warmers. So it would look as though Sturridge would have to be the back-up striker - didn't he leave Chelsea for that reason?

Puzzled

A top class defencive midfielder is priority in my opinion. Lucas is a good player but is a natural attacking midfielder rather than a defencive. Lucas doesn't have the pace of power.

After today I'm surprised the first response isn't a starting keeper.

03 Feb 2013 20:29:24
just a quick one, how do you rate the Liverpool squad at the moment, IMO I think we nearly there the attack side of things is def far better but still think we need carragher in defence as without him giving out instructions and geeing the boys up we look shaky. Just wondered how you saw it.
Cheers frazer

I think sterling is very promising but I worry he will be over used. Your squad as a whole isn't strong enough at the moment IMO, when you play well at a high tempo you look very good but I don't think you have the players to do it consistently over a season just yet. spurs should be the benchmark for next season I think. If you buy well at the back then I fully expect you to finish top 4 next year
Bren, (OBJECTIVE utd and general football fanatic)

03 Feb 2013 21:04:00
FSG, what was the average age of that team? Yes the team that just dominated the champions. Throw you transfer policy out the window, there's your proof.

Brendan, Why oh why did you change things when we had them on the back foot. We should've been going for the throat, the third goal to kill the game, instead you threw it away.

To any of you Kenny detractors, Hendo, Downing, Suarez, Enrique. All becoming pivotal in the best 11. All Kenny's signings.

Ozone

Who is coaching the improvement in these players? Compare Suarez last season to this? Forgot 35m spent on Carroll did we?

Jimbob

Welcome to the wacky world of ozone.

KUMBER

Yeah if only we had Carroll instead of Sturridge. You're really getting a bit boring now, Ozone.

cozinoz

Those players, you mention. Are flourishing. Under brendans. Guidance.

Ozone, Kenny wasted £55 million on Downing and Carroll. He was out of his depth.

Give it a rest, Liverpool are finally starting to look good again after so many years.

Adam

Ozone can you never just enjoy the moment?

I didn't mention Carroll did I cozinoz. I'm merely pointing out that Hendo, Downing and Enrique are coming good and were Kenny's signings. Are best team is Kenny's with Sturridge, end of lad.

Furthermore, that wasn't the Brendan way of playing. That wasn't possession clap trap that was attacking football with long balls where necessary. If Brendan's treating it all as a learning curve and adapts to suit then fair enough I won't complain as long as he moves away from that boring possession dross.

Ozone {Ed001's Note - Kenny's team? You mean Agger, Reina, Carragher, Johnson, Gerrard and Lucas were Kenny signings now? Or are you going to say that Kenny's best team was Rafa's team with a couple of additions? Ridiculous post, you really are just talking nonsense, again. Do you expect a manager to sign 11 new players every season? You make no sense, ever.}

Bringing that point up in regards to KD just condemns it ozone. they may be kenny's buys but it's rodgers that has had to develop and bring out the potential. had kenny done so he'd still be in charge and you wouldn't have to keep on about it.
rodgers has filled them all with tactical and positional awareness which is evident in the progress they've all made this season.
just let it go, move on. judging by kenny's upbeat and positive lfc tweets he undoubtedly has, maybe you should too.

s. p

Did Kenny coach the players or was that Clarke's job?

The Irish Rover

Apart from Sturridge Ed001, where's Rodgers signings in the last 2 games? Where were Allen, Borini, Assiadi and Sahin when we've been playing well. Again Ed001, you know what I'm getting at but you like to split hairs by playing on words.

Fantastic tactical move today Brendan, we're all over them and you hook one of the most effective players in the game and replace him with a centre half! You further kill any chance of us winning the game by bringing your mate Joe on.

Similarly on Wednesday (again Ed001 nonsense putting forward an argument that just because Suarez is our top scorer he has a god given right to play 90 mins every game), 2 up, Walcott a constant threat and Suarez tired out on the left. Rodgers leaves it untill 2 all to make the change. To late Brendan and you should've took Suarez off not Sturridge.

Accept the draw as you wish lads but it's not good enough for me, we had them on th rack and should've left there with all 3 points. Brendan's change was a game changer but not in our favour.

Ozone {Ed001's Note - you do talk some cack, the mark of a good manager is getting the best out of what he has to hand. It is a good manager who has no favourites and doesn't just play the players he brought in, no matter how out of form they are, just to prove he bought right. You have no clue about anything other than how to whine about nothing. Run along and try and learn something about management, because you clearly are completely clueless.}

I don't expect him to sign 11 new players Ed no but I didn't expect him to be so arrogant as to endeavour to ship out all Kenny's signings. He arrived with a pre-conception, although I think he's now starting to realise that they are in fact a lot better than some of the dross he's wasted money on.

Ozone {Ed001's Note - you are talking crap, he told them they could go based on their performances last season. Who wouldn't have done the same? They needed to play better or go, they have shown that the kick up the backside worked and if it hadn't, they would have been replaced. Stop whining about nothing. They are lucky they got paid at all last season based on the terrible performances they served up. They should just be thankful they have a manager who picks based on form, not on who he favours.}

Adam and Carroll. End of argument.

03 Feb 2013 21:00:26
To think how promising we are starting to look and we still have Coutinho to come in, exciting times! We were unlucky today I can soon see us cutting the mistakes out and putting a run together!

03 Feb 2013 20:47:10
It was such a good performance aswell. I really thought we might see it through, unfortunately it wasn't to be. Looking ahead to the summer I think Reina and Skrtel will go for around 25 mil combined, Zenit, Shaktar and Anzhi are all interested in Skrtel so he might even go for a bit higher than his actual value. Carroll going for 17 and let's say FSG provide 20 mil. That's 62 mil and a couple of shrewd acquisitions could leave us very well placed for a top four finish.

03 Feb 2013 20:20:20
Sturridge has proven me wrong, what a player. was he playing like this before he was with us? I don't seem to remember him playing like this? he's can certainly dribble lol, lots of body movements confusing defenders, even I can't guess whether he is going right or left sometimes. hope he's not injured for too long, him and suarez are key forwards to our top 4 target. what a game, we were very good. on Reina's mistake I have to say I was frustrated, however we play our GKs as a sweeper, and Reina actually di well, but Aguero did way better, I have to say not many strikers in the world can actually do that, I won't put all the blame to Reina for that personally.

Kaizer

That's what playing for Chelsea does to u! Look at Torres, benayoun, meireles

Good post but I disagree completely on the Reina play, being involved in distribution does not mean playing like a sweeper nor explaining a massive error in judgement. I still think Reina is a good keeper, but that was a very poor play and deserving of criticism.

To the 3rd poster that might be true, however when it was Agger and Skrtel, whenever Reina moves out 1 will always move to the goal post, hence if you remember Agger and Skrtel making goal line clearances when Reina was rushing outside, especially Skrtel. hate to play the blame game, but if Agger was at Carraghers position, I thought he'd go to the goal post, and probably wouldev cleared that.

People keep stating we have a"good run in". Aren't the games against the so called lesser teams, the exact games we c ck up in?

03 Feb 2013 21:16:45
We haven't been c cking up in them this season though. At least not as much as we used to, anyway.

- Something Red -

Not this year

We use to but under Rodgers we have been brushing them aside but struggling against the top 4/6

Plymouth Red.

Villa at home
West Brom away

Ring any bells?

And Stoke away, something Red contradicts himself!

04 Feb 2013 19:05:24
Okay, obviously people don't get the concept of qualifying a statement.

I said we don't c ck up in them and then added (no caps though): AS MUCH AS WE USED TO. That means we're doing it less - not that we're not doing it at all.

Examples would be Wigan and Norwich at home and QPR away. We drew those last year and won them comfortably this year.

- Something Red -

So why disagree in first place-semantics="Not as much as used to. "Which implies we still cock up at times v these teams. Which in turn signifies teams we should've done well against and didn't, which =cock up. Stop digging Something Red!

Pity we didn't get Samba and a new keeper

The same Samba who cost £10 mil and is on 100k a week, don't be daft mate.

Or just samba as your new keeper lol

Samba is crap, why do you think QPR only club in for him?

03 Feb 2013 19:56:46
Hendo is improving, but someone needs to tell him to support the man with the ball. Make a 20 yard run to the guy in possion, shout 'Me! Me, Me, so the guy only has to pass the ball say 10-20 yards. Then lay it off and support that person, run to him, 'me, me, me. Stop dissappearing up your own bum Hendo in midfield, we
are not Sunderland.

If you shout me, me, me a free kick will be awarded to the oposition

That takes me back---many years ago (I can hear the yawns now) a cross came over from the wing, I ran to meet it and bellowed MINE. I connected and scored a goal which would have been on goal of the month. The referee disallowed it and gave a free kick.
AND I didn't argue - things were different then. But I still dream about that goal.

Puzzled

But there's no 'me' in team. Oh hang on a minute, there is.
I thought Henderson played well and I can see him getting better.
Rigsby.

03 Feb 2013 19:53:27
Forget the mistake that cost us 2 points, although obviously individual mistakes must be cut out, but that performance was what I for one have been waiting for since Rodgers arrived!
More of the same please Reds!

03 Feb 2013 19:48:13
Lets not forget that Reina has stayed here for us while others have left. The goal today was a freak. let's show him the same support he has shown the club and get behind him please. Thought we looked solid defensively all game. We were up against a big team with plenty of crosses into the box and Reina was nt nervous or flapping.
Gutted we never took all the points but well impressed with the way we played. As for Sturridge I have to say WOW. For a guy who is 'greedy' the amount of times he had his head up and switched the play was brilliant. To think him and Suarez are still adjusting to each other. They truly can be the deadly SAS.

Taffytel

P. s we're all excited today but IF we should draw or lose next game please remember this one. We may not be consistent yet, but we re not far off.
In the words of Gary Barlow. . 'Have a little patience. . . '

Jay Spearing also wants to say with us regardless but do you think we should keep him?

In the words of simon cowell "is this a joke"

I would be interested to know how many other teams would be willing to pay his reported 90k p/w wages.

Granted he could have had a better shot at European football an trophies with another club and we know there has been interest but at what wage offering?

Somehow I doubt he has refused any opportunity to double them.

When he was great, and he was for us for a few years, he was worth it but his value to the team has decreased significantly imo and yet he remains one of our very top earners still.

SideShowBob

I was disappointed neither of the defenders in the box ran back to cover the goal line. At least one of them should have. Not all Reina's fault to my mind.

03 Feb 2013 19:45:02
Got to say fella's we were terrific today, definitely our best performance in a long time. Taking the obvious error out, that was superb; this is why a lot of fans are being so patient with Rodgers because we've seen in glimpses what that team is capable of. The only thing we are lacking is consistency.

03 Feb 2013 19:44:34
A great performance today. Sturridge was excellent his hold up play a quick feet were awesome. Great goal as well. Disappointing not to get all the points as I thought city were for the taking.
Reina has been a great servant to the club but I think he's becoming a bit of a liability in goal. Skrtel was lazy and commitment less for city's second. It's easy to say get rid but my question is why have two players that have been consistently solid for us are now so poor. Don't forget our defensive record for clean sheets over the last few seasons has been good. We need the defends to play well when the forward men do and vice versa that is consistency and o my when we start doing that will we get into the top four. Excellent today though really impressed. We took the game to city and teams are starting to fear us again.

03 Feb 2013 19:42:41
I'm pretty sure some fans on here where listening to some of the callers on tv 5 live with Alan. Pretty much all the lfc supporters that called in had no clue what so ever about what they where saying. Its so embarrassing that I have to defend people like that, who know so little about football. Indirectly blaming rogers for the result, how can it possibly be his fault? I think he's proved he's not a small time manager and that what he says is not all talk. It upsets me that the so called 'best fans in the world' only show up when we win things but hide away when we don't get the result we deserve. Chelsea fans called in and actually backed benitez. you got showed up by the ones you call 'plastic fans'. Look whos plastic now.

How has he proved he's not a small time manager?

If he's proved anything then it's that he IS a small time manager.

We haven't beaten any of the clubs above us all season = small time.

The two I heard sounded totally clueless, negative and not even giving arguments for what they were saying. Jdg

It wouldn't be a bad thing if we never beat teams above us. if we were 1st. Then again, some persons would find a way to complain about that too, perhaps demanding 8-0 scorelines.

- Logic

03 Feb 2013 19:38:44
Reina cost us the game tioday Eds in my opinion with a rash decision, that 2 years ago, he would never have made.
Reallistically, who could we afford in the summer, is Begovis an option? If not could we afford Ter Stegen?

JD {Ed002's Note - I would expect Begovi to move to MU. I would not hold your breath over ter Stegen.}

Begovic to go as back up to De Gea ed002 or instead of? If he goes as a back up, I would be pretty surprised to be honest. A waste of s good keeper to have a bit part role. Money talking maybe?

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - I think he may go as first choice.}

03 Feb 2013 21:25:47
I'm struggling to think of a replacement, tbh. Ter Stegen's doing well in Germany, but man united bought a keeper of similar age for big money and their likely to try and replace him this season because he couldn't handle the pressure (I bet he'll be a good keeper when he's 26/27, though). Sczezny, who doesn't have a big price tag for extra pressure has dropped off for Arsenal as well. 20/21 year old keepers are too risky.

Begovic is probably going to United as Ed002 says. Not many others in the PL are standing out (aside from people we can't get, like Lloris). It's hard to asses Vorm this season because he's missed a lot of games through injury. Al-Habsi doesn't seem as good as last year. Mignolet seems good, but I just have this inkling that he's an average keeper who looks good because he's under pressure and has lots of saves to make, rather than a handful of crucial decisions a match. It's just an inkling now, no evidence to back it up.

There's probably someone useful outside the PL we could look at. Any ideas Eds?

- Something Red - {Ed001's Note - not a clue mate, not seen one I think would fit in our current style other than Vorm, but it is more difficult to assess a keeper's ability on the ball.}

Now please carry this attacking form into the next few games boys: treat each one of the season's remaining fixtures as if they were the Erse or Mankini.

Erm. obviously don't keep drawing 2-2, mind.

03 Feb 2013 19:36:03
Get off Reinas back for f**ks sake, he had a split second decision, stay or go, and once he went he was commited to it, we are all dissapointed but to blame Reina and not acknowlege what a fantastic finish it was only goes to show that a lot of you on here know f**k all about football.

We were fantastic today, love Agger but again like the man united game he didn't do the basics i. e. never let the attacker get more than an arms length on you so you know where he is, but it happens ( again in a split second ) so we move on. And as for the Reina haters, think about what you say when you slag people off because know doubt you will be on here criticising people for the exact same thing in a few weeks when someone else is doing exactly what your all doing tonight!

Waro

Like this new found attitude Waro. Hope it sticks. If you got the fire in the belly then we are definitely on the right track.

Davey Sulls.

03 Feb 2013 21:13:25
I've been a strong supporter of Reina, and I think he'd gotten his form back a bit since his first injury that season, but he made a shockingly poor decision to go for that. He wouldn't have made it to the ball first against a slow player, much less Aguero.

Much as Jones' spill against Oldham was indefensible, so was Reina's mistake today. And let's be honest, these gaffes aren't entirely once off, for either of them.

I still prefer him to Jones, but he has a third of a season to save his LFC career. If not, it's time to tearfully say goodbye and try to get a new keeper.

- Something Red -

A few interesting signs of progress today: Gerrard has equalled his best number of assists in a season; Sturridge achieved 100 league appearances; and I agreed with waro for the first time ever.
Onwards and upwards!

03 Feb 2013 19:36:02
I see what your saying about suarez but you hqve to remember that everyteam in the league will have a season when one of their players carry the squad. It all goes down in history. Thake aresnal for example. last few seasons van persie kept them in the champions league contention. Before him was henry and before him wright. all goals put them in their league position. man united had rooney, ronaldo, cantona and even ince was a match winner. Liverpool have suarez this year and before him was torres and before him gerrard etc etc. You simply can't focus your attention to one player because believe it or not that player needed the support of his team to score those goals. you must also remember that defenders and goalkeepers are the unsung heros

03 Feb 2013 19:30:42
Was Enrique injured? Poor substitution cost us the game!

No it didn't. A lack of concentration did.

Don't be so short sighted.

Davey Sulls

Ever heard of match fitness?
he was buggered

He was blowing out his hole by the time he was subbed, silly mistakes were costing us possession. good sub imho just didn't wrk out for us in hindsight as Skrtel was slow and indecisive for 2nd goal even though Reina was ultimately culpable!
Ciario80

Agree. It was a poor substitution to replace Enrique (who looked tired) with Skrtel and change the CB pairing. Better to bring Wisdom on and put Glen to left back, a system they have all been used to. Skrtel was also at fault for the goal. He half heartedly tracked Aguero, if he had run with him properly, I do not think Reina would have come out that far.
Damn shame to concede like that. Only other disappointment was to see Allen come on.
If you look at our bench, we are still short, a lot of very inexperienced players. Hopefully this will be addressed in the summer. Not convinced with BRs tactical changes today and also against Arsenal. We are leaking way too many goals

Always thought sturridge was a good player & was an astute aquistion but have to admit I did not realise that he was as good as that & had that much to his game glad to see henderson progressing, think joe allen will prove to be a good player as well in time bossing the champions at home is evidence that we are moving forward. keep well keep red y. n. w. a jft96

03 Feb 2013 19:24:36
I honestly think things are really looking up now. Ok, we are having some defensive lapses, but I think that BR does not yet have the defence he wants. After last season, how was he to know that the defence would be our biggest problem.

If I remember correctly didn't Martin Skrtel win our Player of the Year award last season? And wasn't Agger the subject of a bid worth over £20 million by the very team we played today?

And yes, Pepe obviously made a mistake today, and he has been short of his top form for a while, but still, Aguero had no right to put that in from there.

Pure Magic.

Moving on to more positive things, it was a fantastic team performance today, and nice to see us play so well without Suarez having a major impact. Just imagine what we can do when he adds his solo genius as well.

Also, how great is it to see Gerrard blasting them in from distance again!? Henderson is ever growing in confidence and showing the ability he has (I think some forget he is still only 22) and Sturridge was quite simply fantastic.

I think that if the defence can get sorted, something that will surely be worked hard on in training, then we are really not far away from being the complete package ready for next season.

The only thing that I feel is lacking is that we need someone to find space and play clever little passes in and around the final third. Now, if only we had signed a skillful, young Brazilian in the transfer window.

03 Feb 2013 19:23:23
What an amazing game today! keep your head up pep you are still the best keeper in the league. YNWA

He better not walk alone in Liverpool he'll get linched

03 Feb 2013 19:18:51
Whilst the blame for that 2nd City goal lies with Reina, Skrtel does not exactly come out of it smelling of roses, he wasnt actually busting a gut to get over & cover.

From an attacking point of view, we were excellent & we shouldn't be too worried by this department in the future. Efforts in the summer need to be concentrated on a new keeper, centre back & left back. Sorry to say Reina has been poor for the last two & has become too complacent, he needs a new challenge.

More positives to take forward from today's performance & we must follow it up by taking 9 points from the next 3 games, WBA, Swans & Wigan, that would set us up nicely for Spurs.

Leyland Wool

I don't think enrique had thd greatest game but I don't think skrtle shold of came on. Positives are that most of this season we hqve been thebetter side which indicates we have a talented young squad and now we have a direct strike force so who knows what will happen in the fure

Agree!

Think downing needs a boot up the backside too.

The draw was a agood result, but we should've won it!

Brendan is moving the team forward but wish he'd shown a little more ambition and gone for the kill!

I would say two more central defenders though. Before I forget, Gerrad past it? Stop hating bitches! Him and Carra are legends and rather than hating on the two guys who put their heart and soul into every game, maybe people should support the team.

The Liver Bird will rise from the ashes!

Red till I die

I thought Downing played quite well today.

The Irish Rover

Do you think so? I thought he gave the ball away too much and at one point tricked himself and fell over.

With downing, you only get a handful of really good games a season. When he plays, he is absolutely brilliant, but when he doesn't, he's just a liability in my opinion. Thoughts always welcome.

Red till I die

03 Feb 2013 18:59:19
Sterling should have come on in the last mins, it was there for the taking! And pepe, what were you thinking?

03 Feb 2013 19:12:57
Another reina mistake! let's hope we are scouting a replacement as his form has been terrible for over a year now!

03 Feb 2013 19:11:19
Lets say pepe goes in the summer who would you guys like to see come in? it will have to be someone comfortable with the ball at his feet. could begovic be that keeper he's a great shot stopper but can't think of a time when he played the ball on the ground. i'm not saying he hasn't I just can't remember.

RB

Has to be one of the German keepers.

Either

Ter Stegan, Trapp or Leno

BigD

Personally Begovic could have two left feet for all I care, a keeper should be a good shot stopper and command the penalty area first and foremost - you can work on ball control but as long as he is not useless in that regard the other attributes should be the main factor in signing a new keeper

I'd want Begovic but I can see a scenario where Manchester United get Begovic for 10 million ish and we end up with De Gea for 15 million.

Please God, no!

He's going to man united already done

03 Feb 2013 19:11:10
It hurts for me to say this, but I think Coutinho was bought as replacement for suarez in the summer the way they both move, dribble, run, it's so direct but impossible to stop.

it might be that Coutinho is bought now so he might get a run in the first team, if he wasn't and he's just an addition pretty bitchin' for Suso

I hope I'm wrong but Suarez will be the kinda player who can say I want CL football we can never rule out the possibility.

Belgian Red

ps: for those who say that suarez wants to stay and all that RVP said the same thing that he loved Arsenal so much.

Countinho is not a striker he's a midfielder so he is not a replacement. I doubt Suarez will leave he seems a very loyal player and has passed up the opertunity (spelling) to leave before.

03 Feb 2013 19:35:06
Mmmmm! Coutinho was bought as a replacement for Suarez. Oh dear! Forgive me if I'm wrong but Suarez is a striker and Coutinho a midfielder. How does that work lad. BR is not daft. Poor comments. Stop making junk up about Suarez leaving.

Albert

Suarez has come out only last week saying how happy he is with Life in the City and his football, if he goes then he goes but it will take a huge bid of over £50m to get him, as with Coutinho he will play mainly from the Left wing and I doubt we have brought him to replace the main man.

BigD

Tottally disagree with your post RVP made no secret he was going to leave

Oh Jesus I think I'm just going to have to accept other people can't face it that Suarez is going to stay at Liverpool atleast for another season!

Talk is cheap

RVP ain't no Suarez. When Luis gives me a reason to start disbelieving what he says I will, but until he does, I will take what he says as sincere.

03 Feb 2013 19:10:28
Great performance by the team today. From start to finish was totally at city and not sitting back. Yes Reina went walkabout but otherwise was faultless and the goal was a world class finish from a world class striker. The signs are looking good for the future as I think we have the basis of a very good young attacking side growing here. Sturridge was outstanding today and would like to have seen Sterling come on for him when he went off to keep pressure on, but I have faith in BR and what he is trying to achieve.
Keep the faith my fellow reds keep the faith.

03 Feb 2013 19:07:09
Big picture time.

We have dominated long periods of the last two games, away at Arsenal and Citeh. Not many teams will be able to say that! Disappointing score lines aside, we are most definately heading in the right direction. I for one am really enjoying the brand of football BR is instilling in the team and haven't been able to say that since Roy Evans was at the healm. Keep the faith boys, good times ahead.

Devon Red

Dominated large periods of the game against arsenal? i'm not to sure about that

We got 2 points out of 6.

You won't get top 4 with that record whether you dominate or not.

We need to be more ruthless!

Didn't think we dominated Arsenal at any point, nut we played well for long periods. But outplayed Man C all game today

03 Feb 2013 18:38:04
Wow, that was an exhilarating match!

Yeah, I know we missed out on the points yet again, but boy oh boy, our play was excellent throughout the whole match!
OK posters, what do you think, do we still have a chance for top 4 trailing 9 points behind the Spurs? It seems we are out at first glance, but if we can emulate this away play against the tough, but weaker teams as South, Villa and Wigan, and keep up the good home form - we have a chance of collecting a good amount of points until the end, mayhaps as high as 30. Question is will the opposition slip? Right now, Arsenal look the most worrying of the bunch, even though they are trailing behind Spurs - but they, as us, have the majority of their tough matches behind their back.
Ed001, care to throw in a thought on a possible top 4 race? I know it is mayhaps a year too early, but unlike last year, the team is starting to look better and better - do you think we will manage to keep it up, and destroy the teams from the lower and middle part of the table?

Cheers for a good game,
Drigan {Ed001's Note - I would think Chelsea are the more vulnerable team than Spurs, who should be fancying their chances of 3rd, if you ask me. I think we will miss out on the top 4.}

Trouble is we don't play like that against vulnerable so called lesser teams

Thing is, Liverpool is now one of the vulnerable "lesser teams"

03 Feb 2013 19:03:39
i think we have a lot to look forward to next season reds and WOW I thought Henderson wasn't just good 2 day, he was class, very classy performance IMO! downing though he was ok going forward I just think that's all he can do just aimless sometimes. good times ahead tho. harls99

You'd be better off with harry and the hendersons in midfield

03 Feb 2013 19:02:54
Thank you God. The "BR Out" comments by these anonymous fools are not here today. I was expecting them. Thank you Jesus.

Anyway, another great performance that a result doesn't match but we are clearly moving in the right direction and have every right to be optiomistic.

Reina made a clear mistake today. and skrtel on performances is rightly third choice right now. I think we look really good defensively today bar the mistake. Looking good with Carragher back. got to say BR was not to blame for the mishap. That is just one of those things you cannot account for. Even though some people still will.

We are not out of 4th place just yet. Have faith. No doubt we have it all to do. Especially now Arsenal have got right in the mix. It will be very tough. But to be honest, we have the ability to win every game between now and the end of the season. I don't think there's any game left to fear. We are one of the in form teams of the premiership.

Finally key positions are known to Rodgers. He knows who to play and I feel like he knows right now what he is going to do in the summer. He will improve the defence and goalkeeping in the next window I'm sure. I really feel like he knows exactly what's going on and what we need. And those who think Sterling should have come on today, I tell you what Rodgers is doing. Young lad. 18. Every pundit singing his praises and he can't get a game. The lad is confident as hell. So no need to build confidence. Rodgers is building something in him though. HUNGER! I expect him to have a wonder game next game he plays and of course Rodgers will get criticised for not playing him even though he had everything to do with it.

I'm so gutted because we deserved all 3 today and yet so optimistic. 9 pts. I don't know about anybody else but i'll think end of the season, we'll be very very very very close.

Fear nobody. LFC are back!!

In BR I completely and utterly trust. Best manager in my lifetime. Born 1985.

03 Feb 2013 19:00:50
As much as it looks real easy to blame Reina for the second goal I'll rather lay the blame at Skrtel's feet. All in all it was a great game by both sides. Fantastic sub by BR; read the game well and made good judgements.

Great goals by Sturr and CSG; confident we are heading in the right direction.

How sweet it would have been for me had we won the match. It would have been double victory for me as my country qualified for the semifinals of the African Cup of Nations, beating the likes of Didier Drogba, Yaya&Kolo Toure, Gervinho, Kalou's Ivory Coast.

Great game once again, fantastic support from the fan at the game. Bring on next match.

Finally someone really saw what happened in the goal. Skrtel letting aguero get away and not following him.

Good thing is nearly all the big teams are out the way now if we play how we have over the last 2 games then I can see us winning most of these but top 4 is a big ask this season.

I give us 22 points from that lot which is 58 points and 7th place.

We need 29 points approx to challenge top 4

Honestly. Think we can win all those games.

It will take a humongous effort but we can do it.

3/0 down at half time in the Champions league. Odds would have been pretty much the same/

Hi eds,

Great Display today apart from Reina Blunder. Gap between us and Spurs is 9 points now. Despite that Spurs, Everton and Arsenal all have to play some tough teams and each other. We have some very winable games coming up like West Brom home and Swansea home and could even nick a victory away at Wigan. Could put us in the mix. Do you think we have a good chance still of Top four

Just had a look at the top 7 remaining fixtures. we've got the easiest run in by far.
We also have 3 of them at home.
Every other week they are playing each other, dropping points.
Honestly think 4th is do able.
4th will be a good platform to challenge next season.

Question: if an english team wins the champions league, and finishes in the top four, and another wins the fa cup, will 5th place also get a champions league place?

Stokesy {Ed002's Note - No. There are only four Champions League places.}

Problem is that 5th place arsenal have played the same number of big teams as Liverpool plus they have played stoke twice and you know what usually happens when Liverpool ply stoke

And Liverpool has also played Stoke twice

in fairness reina judgment was poor again to go that far and I don't rate him anymore then average since rafa left but aguero still had to do a lot and it was a boss goal {Ed002's Note - To be fair Reina was shepherding Aguaro to where he was least likely to score from.}

There are always ifs and buts in situations like that, it was a fluke goal it could have gone anywhere, if Enrique had stayed on we would have had a left back and pepe would probably have not had to go out and try to defend it, we were the better team, we are definately improving, i`m not blaming anyone, although it`s disappointing not to get the 3 points

Sorry edds but he wasnt sheparding him any were skirtle is there to do that he knew what he was doing getting his move out of Liverpool the sooner the better {Ed002's Note - I am afraid I finding it an absolute disgrace that a Liverpool supporter would accuse the Liverpool goalkeeper of giving a goal away so he could engineer a move from the club. The Liverpool fans are by a mile the most fickle in the world - but this takes it to a whole new level.}

Give Reina a break, 99 times out of a hundred Aguero misses - more bothered by the covering defenders, if they'd done their job it was the correct decision to come out - otherwise Aguero would have been in on goal after skinning our defender.
(Christ Grobelaar spent half of the game out outside his area)

Po

Ed was just my op he seems to run out of his area a lot and it makes me nervous he didn't get away with it sadly maybe a move will be best for him and us but I get what you saying thanks for the reply {Ed001's Note - more of a problem is Skrtel allowing Aguero to get in front of him so easily and make no effort to force him wide, long before Reina came out of his net.}

EDD with respect sorry but as a Liverpool fan myself and having lived here for exactly 47 years there's no way ALL Liverpool fans are the most fickle in the world. I have had united fans moan and groan for many many years even in their times of being the best team in this country. As for their times of being well below Liverpool in the 80s and 70s they still truly believed they were the kings and entitled to everything going. Also Chelsea fans are extremely fickle in their treatment to managers and that can't be argued with.
There's obviously personic younger Liverpool fans on here who don't act with dignity and respect but if that's your only way of judging Liverpool fans then that's out of order because people around my age are realistic and understand the the true meaning of being not only a Liverpool fan but also a fan of football.
Its like saying all builders are cowboys just because a few rip people off and leave work in a shoddy state. Your dealings on here are testing for you granted but its wrong to label Liverpool fans as fickle! {Ed002's Note - In terms of the fickle test the Liverpool fans win by a mile. But accept not all are. I exclude you and four others.}

03 Feb 2013 18:48:46
Great job ed2 thank you for your efforts.

03 Feb 2013 18:48:28
Hi ed's when are we likely to see coutinho
In action. {Ed002's Note - A week or two I would think. An appearance from the bench will likely be first.}

03 Feb 2013 18:43:34
Statistics show that goalkeepers usually hit their peak between the ages of 31 - 35. Reina hit his peak at 28 and although he is still a solid keeper for the majority of the time his mistakes frankly come too often. Replacement will be a welcomed one. I've defended pepe over and over but enough is enough. YNWAO

03 Feb 2013 18:41:39
Thought we were fantastic today - getting lots of grief from mates who are man united fans - we are on our way back - couple of years from the title but we have an overall squad full of youth just lacking experience and inner belief and if they keep improving - it will come

If LFC can sort out there back line Oh and get rid of that joker reina we have a serious side because altho we drew we were much the better side I'm not a rodgers hater but he made mistakes today I'd love to c roy evans there to help him I'm JON96 YNWA

BR wasnt in goals so how did he make the mistake?

RB

What mistakes did rogers make?

SideShowBob

Bringing Skrtel on? Not bringing Sterling on? Taking Enrique off?

Just sayin?.

03 Feb 2013 18:39:16
Quality from LFC, the whole team were great.

Pity BR had to sub Enrique as it was pivotal in the end.

It was a mistake by Reina but he makes match winning saves in other games so deserves some slack.

Only negative apart from the result is DS being replaced with Allen at the end as it was a negative sub for our best player, we could still have won the game.

Hats off to Henderson for his displays after all the stick thrown at him.

Is this the start of something good?

What happened to all the people saying that Sturridge was rubbish and not worth buying there were loads on here before. Gone a bit quiet on the we hate Brendan as well maybe there too busy choking on there stupidity

Well I never said Sturridge was rubbish but I must admit when his signing was first mooted I was underwhelmed but. the boy looks great

Gerrard's goal:
The ball comes out and hits his chest and goes up,
then I swear, I don't believe in god, but everything
went in slow motion, the sky opened and god's voice
thundered down, 'here you go stevie lad, have a smack
at that mate, because I fookin' hate city'
the ball drops to Gerrard's right foot, god kisess his boot as he let's fly and the rest is Liverpool history.
Then everything speeds up again to real time,
the ball is in the net, Gerrard's arms are raised
and we are up at 1-2. Did anyone else experience that?

History?. It was a draw. Did you shut the game off or something?

Woke up my house after he scored it. Brilliant!

Really think we are good enough for fourth this season, if we continue to improve and add leapfrogging 4th and concentrating on the top 3 is very realistic.
Redgrant

NO IT'S NOT! haha. we lost that chance many weeks ago.

Lmfao
champions league, your having laugh

Liverpool lost that chance beginning 18th august

Lol not a chance in hell

03 Feb 2013 18:35:15
My opinion is same as what I had on Wednesday, Liverpool are almost there with few experience players next season would be much better,

I hold my hands up and say maybe I was wrong in judging Brendan in beginning of the season, but again if you take away all Suarez goals away Liverpool would have struggled, that's all behind now,

Back to today's game apart from one mistake I think we were much better then Wednesday and we looked more sharper throughout the game, simply because Suarez was not involved in defending and had the energy in second half,

Maybe no one expected us to get a single point in last two games so I would say two points gained then 6 points lost, simply because we played slightly better team then is, now it's upto the player to have a runs of wins against the team which are on lower level then us or on same

Henderson is getting better, he needs to start passing balls more forward, downing is playing well but I don't see him bringing anything into game as much we would have liked,

I wish one day I can watch Suarez live that would be my dream what a player we have and I hope he's with us in future to share the success which he deserves and my final wish will be we win PL with still gerreard and carra still with us as no one deserves more then both of them

Good luck to lfc upto the end of season, I'm sure we can win as many games from now until the end of season

We get all shades of opinion on these pages but surely there can be no poster, fan, pundit, player, who does not realise what Reina is trying to do.

It has been going on for two years now. Is there anyone left out there that still thinks it is a loss of form?

He's starting to look like torres, while he was waiting to leave

Excuse my blatent stupidity, but what is he trying to do? Force his way out? If I were in his shoes, I would just ask for a transfer? Seems more logical. But again, I really know nothing about it.

Daveevad

What is he trying to do?

Your beating your head against a brick wall mate. there are quite a lot on here that think arsene wenger wants him. I mean wtf {Ed001's Note - Wenger has tried to sign him on more than one occasion.}

I agree with the first poster. In the forces we used to call it '' working your ticket ''. It is now so obvious.

Once Reina decided it was time to leave he should have chosen a different route, it is so embarrassing, he could have asked for a transfer, Rodgers should play Jones for the remainder of the season, at least he is committed to the club.

You. Know the voices in your head. Stop listening to them.

KUMBER

Daveevad if he ask to go the fans will turn on him like torres so he is engineering his way out lad

So the way to engineer a move is to ( in your opinion, play badly for 2 years. ) OH MY GOD!!

Well done to the lads for the perormance, great goals from gerrard and sturridge but once again we self distruct.

We can't keep doing that, that is about five games now where we have gifted the opposition goals including both city games. Wtf happened to our defense, you don't just fluke being the best defense in the league. They need to get back to their normal selves asap, or it will cost a lot more points, which WILL add add up at the end of the season.

03 Feb 2013 18:31:41
Roll on July 1st new 2 new CB required 1 to replace Skrtle the other as back up, 2 new keepers required 1 to replace Reina and the other as back up.

Curled1

More like new team required

03 Feb 2013 18:31:03
What's with always needing to slate players on here?
Yes, in the grand scheme of things there are questions about Reina, but I thought the team performance for an hour against Arsenal was good, and today we were the better side throughout. Seeds of something good?
Reinas mistake was stupid and costly, but he isn't a 'person' and doesn't deserve some of the vitriolic hatred posted down the page. Get a grip.

Bigbadben

I would say a LB a CB maybe a CM and a new winger as I think Downing will go in the summer.

03 Feb 2013 18:30:25
For any brown nosers defending Reina, He hasn't been anywhere near good for quite a long time. So get over yourselves.

He just needs training with ballons he saves them

03 Feb 2013 18:29:06
Sky untrue, reporter banging on about-"should you the players have put the ball out anyhow, even though Ref said play on!" Wtf do we have to do? then badgered Sturridge about diving-the lad said he lost his balance and apologised. No wonder Reds fans call them slysports

The King had the right attitude to the 'reporters' from sly sports. Treat them with the distain their utter banality deserves.

ND

Injured players some times like yesterday go down as a tactic to stop the game its cheating same as diving

03 Feb 2013 18:28:36
In the last two games we have played our strongest 11 and we showed we can adapt to the situation and opposition

Credit to BR for showing he is flexible with his tactics

There is nothing he can do to legislate for individual errors

We did enough to gain 6 points but ended up with 2

To grind out results and looking at the type of players we have in our 1st XI - there is no room for the lightweight flair players (Allen/suso/sterling/coutinho) YET until we get more solid at the back/defensively

Leam Red

The only gripe I have with BR is that he tried to play his brand of football straight away - he should have opted for a gentle transition - get a solid base, get the right players in and then you can play the pretty 4-3-3 / tika-taka football

Reina - have a word

He tried a gentle tansistion with reading and got fired right away.

Read the interviews man.

Said he would never do that again.

He is an outstanding manager and we're so so lucky to have got him and our helm.

In time he will prove to be outstanding.

I know everybody knows from my posts I am such a huge fan of his, but I don't think people realise we have one of the best coaches in the world.

Lets be honest, Liverpool's first team was a ruin when he took over. I don't care what anybody says. He has revitilised the same first team players, added quality youth and has got the team playing a beautiful flowing and chance creating style of football. The goals are flowing but obviously there's still work to do. Its been one season. To not realise what he has done for the football club, you must be a moron.

I agree with ED002 that perhaps his accomplishments did not deserve the position but his skills and a coach and manager absolutley did. We again hired on potential. Dangerous but for me this is a gamble that looks like working out in a big way.

I'll stand by this in victory and defeat as I have done in the past.

Immensely proud of my team today.

LFC FOREVER.

Brendan rogers only downfall was leaving swansea! in the words of jim bowen "lets look what ya could have won"

03 Feb 2013 18:28:15
Some of the things being written on here about Reina are not on. However, I do concede it likely he will be replaced in the summer. I think FSG are willing to spend but expect value for money. Let's face it Reina isn't offering this as we could get a keeper at least as good (if not better) for half the wage. To many high profile costly mistakes. Was that not why Barcelona sold him?

Great performance by the team today and it's hard to decide which of our goals was better? Sturridge is doing really well and I'm loving our new midfield signing Henderson. Where did he come from?

03 Feb 2013 18:26:45
Edge of your seat stuff there today. I thought we out played the champions all over the park. Just unlucky with two mistakes made and two goals conceded. I really hope we look to pick up a keeper in the summer as reina is looking more and more problematic. Once the strongest part of our squad now our most glaring weakness. All in all thrilled with the performance and WHAT A BEAUTY BY GERRARD! Walk on boys were finally hitting form.

03 Feb 2013 18:25:11
Loads of positives today! 13 winable games left, 39 points up for grabs an 9 from 4th. you never no really.
Kp

We have a fabulous run in. Could quite easily pick up 30+ points.

But will that be enough?

Need to beat Chelsea & Spurs at home to stand a chance.

Its took you 25 games to get to 36 points. what kind of hard drugs are your lot on you'll be lucky to get to 55 points this season #overachieved

03 Feb 2013 18:24:01
Hi Guys
I'm a Manchester United fan but I'm also a football fan and I have to say that's the best I've seen you play for a very long time. Sturridge was excellent tonight as were many more. 2 very good goals as well. Its a shame for me that you couldn't hold out for the win but its still a good point for you guys. I can't go without commenting on Reina as David De Gea has been getting some real stick lately but that was a proper howler.
Still well played and thanks for taking 2 points off of City.

Bazza The Red

Liverpool are doing man united proud latley not are they only now mid table has beens they take points off are nearest and dearest but also there cast offs (the waiter) is bringing chelsea to their knees. what next a bid of 50m for benteke lol

03 Feb 2013 18:23:25
that was possibly the worst thing that could have happened today. a draw? I would have rather lost than drawn with city today. extremely upset and dissapointed, can't help but feel we deserve more than what were getting this season. that's it for our season and man united have won the premier league basically. what a rubbish result

03 Feb 2013 18:21:57
Great game boys. We have battered them twice this season and only got 2 points to show for it. What I can't understand is why didn't skrtle follow aguero and Shepard him out wide and reina could have dropped back into goal. There was no real danger otherwise IMO I don't put all the blame onto reina. But I really think we are moving forward now. Coutinho to come in to the squad a bit more flair added. That's the hard games out the way now let's move on to our next game and get the results we need.
YNWA
Jamesy

Why didn't BR just move johnson over and bring on wisdom, instead of upseeting the cb pairing. bad choice on his part

I don't think all the wisdom in the world can help Liverpool

03 Feb 2013 18:21:01
Put things into perspective a bit please.
Yes Reina was out of position for the goal. However, Skrtel seemed to be leaving it for him, even doing to 2 armed gesture that he was leaving it form him (why he wasn't busting a gut himself I'll never know).
So Reina does what he could and that is try and put pressure on Aguero and move him towards an impossible angle.
The only thing you couldn't bank on was an absolute world class finish. If that had gone over the bar or straight out of play, you would have all been saying well done to Reina for reading the game and putting the striker off.

I wouldn't I would be asking why he left his goal after all that is what he is there for

03 Feb 2013 18:19:59
We all know Reina made a mistake but that's the one and only negative for us in todays game so let's not dwell on it. We knew before todays game that Pepe was the weakest link!
We should be looking at the positives, Sturridge was excellent as were the rest of the outfield players.
The signs are looking good.

Top 4 hopes are probably gone now, we should be in the thick of it, its so frustrating to watch the team team play so well but see another basic mistake throw all the good work out the window.

Top four hopes? quality sheer quality how can you even think of top four. qpr got more chance than you lot

Can't beat a top half team.

Mid table Bren strikes again

Is this really progress?

03 Feb 2013 18:18:50
Reina is becoming like Gomez {Ed002's Note - From the Addams Family?}

Or the band?

He's definitely heading towards the way mental Barthez went.

-Shane.

I think he's becoming more like Uncle Fester than Gomez. Didn't you see him come on for the secong half with that lightbulb in his mouth?

03 Feb 2013 18:17:44
It's hard to know how to feel after that game, we played so well you can't criticise Rodgers and those who do obviously didn't watch the game. Going into the game city hadn't concede a goal for nearly 10 hours, we score 2 and draw, away to the champions? but it's another one of them were we could have won if it wasn't for yet again, a Reina mistake. Then we get onto the fact that from that angle 1/100 goes in. Needless to say I'm disappointed, not with the manager, the way we played or the team, just an individual error (s) (if you count Agger's). I loved watching us today, we looked like a strong, exciting team again. Top 4 was always a big ask but let's just push on and try to finish as high up as we can.

03 Feb 2013 18:16:29
Great effort lads henderson sturridge gerrard were all awesome surprisingly suarez bit quiet but let's face it he's our god.

Eds what you think of reina did he do the right thing of coming out of his box right thing or not? {Ed002's Note - I don't suppose many were expecting Aguero would score from there.}

03 Feb 2013 18:16:03
Anyone else think Suarez looks a bit jaded? not quite himself last couple of games, in terms of sharpness/pace

He needs a rest without doubt.

He has worked his boll*x off thus far, every game!

I thought against arsenal he was superb. He was good today as well

03 Feb 2013 18:14:53
All the talk of Suarez going like man united fan on here before. We are near again, and although sick with result. Why would we think of dismantling a promising side? That needs adding to, not taking away! We lost Torres, Macherano, and Alonso when on cusp of greatness

And replaced them with caroll, adam and downing rofl

03 Feb 2013 18:13:31
dont like this skertel reina combination both need to go in summer

Why no criticism of Agger for poor positioning for their first goal?

Or Ted for taking Jose off. If he hadn't started f*cking around with the shape, theyed never have scored that.

can some one please explain why we took sturridge off, the only player that looked like scoring, we are not bloody swansea, going for a draw, twice this week we have played for a draw, no wonder gerrard looked fed up.
good game though one of our best performances, lucas, get involved son, reina, move on and thankyou {Ed001's Note - he was shattered and picked up an injury, he needed to come off.}

I was agreeing with Eds there

He was injured doh

ive always been a fan of pepe, but. .
he's costing us to much at the moment. I think its
time for him to move on and rediscover his class we all know he has, and time for us to blood some
new talent between the posts.
On another note i'm very happy to see carra playing well we all know he lacks pace but the man makes up for it with his fantastic vision and sheer grit, and well done to danny sturridge MOTM for me

Tell me how we have only 2 points from the last 2 games. Seriously gutted.

A few things tho. Should Gerrard still be benched? Maybe Mighty Reds could answer that.

Henderson MoM again. What energy, totally immense.

Reina? What was he thinking? Major mistake, but it was still a quality goal! Maybe 1 in 20 chance of going in.

Still gutted tho. We will require a minor miracle for a top 4 spot and perfect football from now on to the end. You never know.

The Irish Rover

You guys looked good today as you did against Arsenal. Despite the whiners on here Rodgers seems to be having an impact (sadly). You didn't deserve a point, you deserved all 3.

Tell me how we have only 2 points from the last 2 games. Seriously gutted.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :

Because we play kamikaze tippy tappy football instead of common sense defending.

Like Arsenal, you play this way and you concede slack goals. Sometimes in defence you do have to put your boot through it, but that goes against Bren's ethos.

I hope we can persuade Sammi Hyypia to come in as assistant and sort the back line out.

Agree and at times a wells clear is required

03 Feb 2013 18:10:19
What's wrong with Reina? is his mind in Barca?

He's been our best goal keeper in years, he has saved us from losing on many an occasion.

Give him some slack. or would you prefer jones?

Dont worry i've got an inside source that's told me barca are no longer interested in reina as they have found a traffic cone to be more efficient

So your happy with recent be lls ups then? they are no longer one offs

03 Feb 2013 18:10:05
well i'm a bit gutted but I can guarantee the trolls will be on slating reina yes he shouldn't have left his goal but you have to give credit to aguero for that strike whether he meant it or not. thought sturridge and suarez are pairing up nicely which will only become even more obvious for next season. Anyway we drew nevermind, we are the first team to score against city in 2013 which we can take credit for. that was probably one of the best Liverpool displays i'v seen. every one of the lads looked hungry you can see they want to win and with a little bit more luck we could have been 4 goals up. But oh well that's football, was a great match for the neutrals. I look forward to the abuse of some fans who say to get rodgers out because we couldn't hold onto a lead or downing is rubbish and shouldn't have started or henderson has no future at our club. it doesn't matter if they aren't up to your standards or you feel you could do a better job if you were playing. iv never seen so many fans complaining recently and it makes me sick that some people think its an acceptable way to support a great club that is coming out of years of bad treatment with our previous owners.

I am only 21 so I have never seen Liverpool lift the title and have never seen the great teams of old play. but I will never slate our team and give abuse to them for not winning a match or when a player makes a poor pass or wrong decision. If you can't take it on the chin when things don't go our way go support united as they get everything their way.

If anyone makes a comment on this saying rubbish about our team I won't bother replying as I don't want to waste my time talking to you, but most likely my reply would be "DEAL WITH IT"

lfc4lifeynwa

Mirrored my thoughts! Thought 'twas an excellent performance and I thought all the players played with all their heart. Thoroughly entertaining match and a very good performance by Captain Fantastic and Sturridge in particular. Not to forget Carra and Henderson.

Seriously, how can people blame Reina? He went for the ball it, he was outside the box, and that goal was one in a million. If it wasn't score it would have been Pepe the hero.

Dublad

"Seriously, how can people blame Reina?"

Do you really need to ask?

Reina plays the sweeper game. He came out to a ball over the top, he usually clears them, this was outside the box, and a fluke if a goal. Seriously kun was on his arse when he went in.

If Reina didn't try, and was beat by kun or whoever, people would be saying the same thing 'howler from Reina'

He has been having howlers and I agree, but this one and Walcotts goal where not howlers.

Dublad

He'd be better off as a chimney sweeper lol

03 Feb 2013 18:08:14
What a performance. No Liverpool fan can be anything but proud. Mistake by Reina, but if he hadnt come out Aguero would probably have buried it, and how could reina expect him to finish like that.

Again so unlucky. We were absolutley the best team. Easily.

Excellent game of football in which we were easily the better side and created the better chances.
Dissapointed we didn't win but really happy with the performance. The last 2 games could easily have been 6 points with a bit of luck.

I believe in you Brendan. Superb today. Best away performance since 4-1 at Utd - look at the chances we had! Henderson my man of match! Well done reds. Nay Sayers shove off and support Chelsea

03 Feb 2013 18:07:25
Que the new goalkeeper rumours.

03 Feb 2013 18:06:59
Absolutely gutted! We should have won, but for a combination of a moment of brilliance from Aguero and madness from Reina. Sturridge was absolutely brilliant, my MotM. Hendo, Gerrard and Suarez worked their socks off - without a doubt the best performance by the team this season. Sick to the stomach with the draw, but we have to keep it going! Singred

03 Feb 2013 18:06:03
That was our most complete performance this season, can't single anyone out barring Reina obviously (though Agero still had a lot to do from there, mixture of like 40% bad keeping, 60% excellent shot) and Enrique but that's mainly down to tiredness.
Sturridge, wow. We finally have our fox in the box and the partnership between Suarez and Sturridge, brilliant. Captain Fantastic showing people why he is in my opinion, Liverpools greatest ever.
We need to address this issue of dropping points though, no team who aims for top 4 drops points all the time in the driving seat but well put this down to the new system and chopping and changing.

We have had troubles in the striking department and too much is made of our ability to beat teams in the top half, see tonight's result for details, but we look a dangerous team now and need to have some momentum, consistency, experience and a wee bit of luck. YNWA

03 Feb 2013 18:28:27
Wdat about Agger waving to his mum!!

03 Feb 2013 18:05:47
Absolutely gutted. Played phenomenally in last two games, deserved to win at the emirates and etihad and dropped 4 points. Could have been 3 points ahead of arsenal and now 5 points behind them!

Thought we played superbly in both games. Reina really let us down again today, hope we swap him for Begovic in the summer.

Sturridge deserved man of the match today. Was fantastic throughout. Held the ball up better than Carroll ever did for us. Touch, pass and shots all sublime.

Dont want to criticize the team as not loosing away at Arsenal and City is no mean feat. Just gutted that we didn't come away with more both times!

03 Feb 2013 18:05:30
What a performance from all the players except reina of course who chocked in the big game as usual, really not going to miss him when he hopefully leaves in the summer I mean really its hardly as if being the Liverpool goalkeeper is a exstremley busy job all you need to do is be solid and time and time again reina has undone the teams efforts this year and proble more so under kenny last year, with most the media reporting Brendan is concerned about reina's long term form hopefully he will show him the door sooner rather than later, thanks for the memory's reina but think its time to move on.

03 Feb 2013 18:05:28
What a good game that was! Went into the game hoping for a point and come out disappointed we didn't get 3. Sturridge is a real talent and we look top quality going forward. Reina should have done better with their second goal but the finish was superb it must be said. We are now 9 points from champions league and 5 points from Arsenal but I think we have a better schedule than the teams above us and we are playing great football so there is still hope! Had to rewind to see Gerrard's emotional celebration, I was too busy jumping around my living room

So de gea might be prone to the odd mistake and let's face it he's young but there's no doubting the potential, so when you Liverpool fans fancy a dig just remember at least he's better than lost at sea reina.

Sparky

03 Feb 2013 18:05:01
reina cost us the game but skrtel partly to blame in the goal. we looked so solid in defence until rodgers put skrtel in for enrique and pushing agger on the left.

03 Feb 2013 18:05:00
Nice one Reina you complete and utter person you just lost us 3pts!

He dropped us 2 pts, 2 pts

03 Feb 2013 18:04:17
We are in the right road, play with that attitude we will benefit! Um sorry but Reina and Liverpool need to part company for both their sakes! He cost so many point and IMO needs a change

03 Feb 2013 18:03:37
I have to say I am very pleased with that result, we were much better then the champions and deserved to win but a draw at the etihad is a very good result. Compare it to last seasons result and no one can say they don't see any improvement (but many will still say it). Sturridge played really well and what a goal from stevie just unfortunate reina and skrtel had a bit of a mix up although reina shouldn't have been that far out at all. Doesn't matter still a great result bring on west brom let's smash em.

03 Feb 2013 18:02:42
Once again city get lucky against Liverpool. I guess saying we should of got 3 points at the emirates would have been stretching it as we where on the back foot after 60 mins but we where also 2-0 up, so that's up for debate. But there is absolutely no doubt in my mind we bossed this match and should have easily taken 3 points. Made city look like an average team. Reina needs to admit its his form that's making him unhappy not Liverpool. Because at the moment he's lucky to be here.

03 Feb 2013 18:02:32
Last straw for me pepe, too many mistakes costing us points beginning to remind me of calamity James or more like Bruce, what the hell you thinking. We need new stopper if we are to have any chance of top four next year this year all over, let's hope luis stays.

03 Feb 2013 18:02:28
And that's ladies and gents why Reina needs to go this summer. He summed it up for himself why he needs to leave. Absolute poor decision making he told Skrtle he had it and just let it slide. I think the only problem with BR's way of playing is how unconfident our CB's seem to be with the ball at their feet Reina does well with his feet but then look at decision making. We got a lot to do 9points of 4th place do I think we can get it? probably maybe we just need a little luck and Reina to stop doing s**t like that.

03 Feb 2013 18:02:12
Hey Eds, great performance again today. Can really see a big improvement. Next few games are crucial. But why is it we have such a problem seeing out games. I know earlier in the season inexperience could be blamed but its hardly an inexperienced team that has lost two leads against arsenal and city. Is it a issue of mentality? Is it down to Rodgers tactics or is it simply down to individual errors like today? So frustrating.

A least we never lost to City all season. We need to defend a lead or our season will be over without qualification for anything.

03 Feb 2013 18:01:24
im proud as hell for the team today.

shame about pepe, but he was brave enough to come out. and I think 9 out of 10 keepers would have done the same. should reward an amazing aguero goal rather than a bad keeping mistake I think.

then there is gerrard. 4am in my house doing everything not to wake the children and wife!

giving me a heart attack!

Sorry pepe to, many mistakes creeping into your game. Uve been a great keeper but we've had your best years and its time for a change

03 Feb 2013 18:01:04
Reina is not deserving of a place in our starting 11. I've said it before and i'll say it again, He is what is wrong with our team.

If this screwup by Reina doesn't prove we need a better keeper I don't know what will. Basic mistake, you come for the ball you get it,, he was going into the corner. We had city. Great goal from Stevie G.

03 Feb 2013 17:58:25
OK. let's have the complainers then.
Nothing whatsoever wrong with that aside from one bad mistake that Reina seems prone too nowadays

We look like we'd boss possesion against anyone and anyone who can't see that Henderson is rapidly becoming future England regular must be crackers

Im loving how were playing and we can only get better, we havnt even played Couthino yet!

Chin up boys, we knew it would be hard this year and you could see on rodgers face how disappointed he was at the equaliser

We played really well today so well done to the team. Sturridge was quality in particular. Shame a much needed win was given away by a moment of insanity.

Why we never capitalise on teams above us dropping points and 99% of our clearances seem to drop at the other teams feet i'll never know.

Still very impressed with the overall performance we put in tonight.

Crowman.

That moment of insanity was also followed by a moment of genius by Aguero - how often would that have happened? Yes, Reina made an error but how many people truly thought it would lead to a goal?

To the above post:

Would Aguero of scored if we would of had a keeper in goal at the time?

Pepe reina has lost us 4 points. Today he decided to give aguero a nice gift and against arsenal he was flat footed. Both goals were impossible angles. It's honesty pathetic, he needs to be replaced.

I will be glad when Reina leaves!

03 Feb 2013 17:45:11
If there's one thing we're really good at it's shooting ourselves in the foot. We make poor performing teams look brilliant with shoddy mistakes.

-Shane.

If anything that was an individuals mistake it looked clear to me that Reina said to Skrtle leave it and so he did and Reina didn't have it at all.

03 Feb 2013 17:44:42
Lost my patience with reina. We always find ourselves in this position and then something or someone makes a blinder and has to mess it up. We've been owning them at their ground there's no doubt about it. But we should be winning. How can reina be unhappy about anything when he puts in performances like that. I think he's an absolute brilliant keeper but the fact that he's unhappy makes me wonder is it because he isn't the keeper he once was but is turning it round on Liverpool.

03 Feb 2013 17:42:14

So the slow mo showed fairly heavy contact on Sturridge, but the commentators continue slating Sturridge? Not saying it was a definate penalty (my rose tinted specs say it was!) but there was contact, no way should it have been a yellow card.

Nick

Ah lad, it was a shocking, blatant dive - Sturridge even apologised after for it to "the forehead".
Be interesting to listen to what his dad has to say as he works for Sky TV & slated Suarez previously for diving.
Dean Sturridge I'm talking about by the way (I believe he's Daniel's dad no?). {Ed002's Note - Uncle.}

I've just found this record in the attic. I just wish I still had a record player.

Thinking back, that was probably a bit weird!

Much better shape about LFC today, they look comfortable on the ball and with that comes confidence. Citeh there for the taking, their two centre halves look uncertain. Hope Sturridge shakes off his injury, he's been excellent! Come on you reds. YNWA

03 Feb 2013 17:00:15
Very impressed with our front 6 so far, really good balance, putting pressure on the city players and breaking quickly. Sturridge looks class, Suarez hasn't seen enough of the ball but looks lively when he does, Henderson harrying down their defence despite making one or two rash challenges, gerrards looking good despite one or two sloppy passes, lucas is breaking up play nicely, downing looks ok good outlet on the right and helping johnson out too.

03 Feb 2013 16:59:59
Reading some of the posts and have thought of an interesting question (for once!)

If our 'policy' is to sign young players with sell on value, does this mean we will be in for a young (under 25) keeper if/when Reina leaves? Usually GK is a position where you want more experienced players right?

Why can't people leave off about Suarez? now you've got a Utd fan on here, giving his sixpence worth. Obviously wanting us weakened by his departure. The Lad says he's happy and wants to stay, regardless of Champs Leauge or not! We're tying to build something here. Every time we've been close in recent years we've lot key players. And that takes time to replace, hope players slot in and gel. With Suarez it's like an agenda press, rival fans etc. And as for Mancini. he's public ally courting a player at a rival club, who is under contract and happy. Surely time is near for LFC to complain to F. A re. his comments. As a form of tapping a player

Totally agree. whilst he's here, let's just enjoy having him. everyone will move on at some point its inevitable. but he's here now and wants to play for us, no one else

Completely agree! He's stated so many times he wants to stay! What's wrong with people are they that stubborn!

Let's be honest for a second, shall we? Let's say it's summertime and you're Suarez. Bayern Munich, who now have Pep as head coach, recently bought Falcoa and have another 150M plus still to spend rebuilding. They tell you they'll double your wages and give Liverpool a very handsome buyout which might enable Liverpool to help rebuild. You're telling me you (as pretend Suarez) would say no to that?

O. p reply to last poster, I take your point. But mine is if LFC want to get back where we belong you keep Suarez and build team around him. were getting there. And despite big money buying more players, you have to build again from square one. Surely you keep adding and you get there quicker. Up to club to ensure lad stays

if you can disregard the fact that I'm a Utd fan and look at this objectively: if I'm Suarez I would consider a move this summer. value is very high currently and after a phenomenal season he would be able to choose his club, and with Bsrca, Real (maybe), Bayern, city and chelsea all expected to be in the market for strikers I can see him moving. I think this could be the case regardless of any further progression or investment from Liverpool because he is in such a strong position to get a huge contract elsewhere. what does Ed002 think/know about this?
Bren, {Ed002's Note - There is interest from Juventus (As one of the three options to play off Llorente) and Bayern Munich who Guardiola would like to partner with Falcao.}

Well in that case van persie should look for a move while his value is high, after a great season, let's face it van persie is never going to win the champions league at united and he'd have his pick of teams. I think this should be the case regardless of what united do in the transfer market.

Lil Red

Ed002 have Bayern got the cash to buy players like Falcao and Suarez for both 40-50m+?

Plymouth Red. {Ed002's Note - Bayern will be the biggest spenders in the summer with a very, very significant budget set aside for the new manager.}

Some reports were saying 240M, so yes they do. No idea if that figure is even close, but that's (one of) the numbers reported. {Ed002's Note - The figure actually mentioned was €278M as a budget but they will get a significant return on players sold.}

Suarez loves LFC and he and his family love Merseyside.
Tevez got it right Manchester is a she*p hole and souless place surrounded by motorways.
RVP would do well to get out of there while he's playing well.
The next best place to live after Merseyside is Barcelona.

Am I right in saying Pep's brother is Suarez agent. Let's not give Ed02 a hard time for relaying the information. We all don't want Suarez to go, but giving the Eds abuse for saying that offers will come in for him in the summer is out of order.

I can't help feeling were really in with a shout of all 3 points today. Should sturridge find himself with a sight of goal I hope he can compose himself and pass it into
The back of the net like Rooney yesterday.
Not want to knock it into tomorrow and blast it into row Z.
Football has strange ways of throwing up strange circumstances and sturridge scoring the winning goal that would almost certainly deny city the title is one for sure.
Sadly it would mean we scored a title winning goal again at last but not sadly for us.

03 Feb 2013 13:58:13
Would personally take a draw today. That being said with Yaya and Kompany missing we might be able to go one better. As important as this game is, we have Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton at home. Winning these three games will give us a fighting chance of 4th places. its a big if though. But I'm confident of beating Chelsea if there defence is still as shaky as it is now when we play them, I'm confident of beating Everton at home, not sure about Tottenham though. Defoe's been relatively out of form recently and with no decent back up options, I feel the game will probably be decided on the individual performance of Suarez vs Bale

Some good and some bad re. Brendans reign so far. 6/10 must learn from mistakes, could do better. And must realise you can't play Barca style against every opponent. Must earn right to play, with personnel who yes can play, but can mix it too. Would be my report.
now just an observation, Swansea also (as we do) play a nice brand of Footy when under Brendan. but it's took Laudrup to get a better blend between attractive footy and conceding goals. that's currently something in my opinion Brendan must admit to, and address. Or we'll be caught in constant spiral of unpredictability. In games where we show enough uptop to win. I ld like Midfield (if three) to always have Stevie, Hendo, and Lucas on team sheet. If not a three, I feel those 3i've said should be in whatever formation. Just a view!

Laudrup had had significantly more money to spend than Brendan had following the sales of Allen and Sinclair.

Although I agree that currently we need to be able to mix it up a little, long term style should not need to be changed, Barcelona, arsenal, stoke even stand by their style of play whoever the opposition. It's just going to take time and I would suggest a couple more transfer windows for Brendan to make this squad his own.

Rodgers has spent £50 million.

Just to clarify, I am comparing the money Brendan had at Swansea compared to what Laudrup has spent this year there.

Great to see Carra back to his best. Now if only he could tackle, head, pass to players wearing the same colour shirt or defend outside the 18 yards area he'd be up there with the Kaiser. Don't believe the hype

FowlerisGod

Very very short memories people have on here or are you still at school regarding CARRA.

Reusch.

I dream of a squad without Carragher, He pulls the whole team deeper, so he looks good with is back to the wall defending.

If the other players would talk and organise themselves, then we would not need to rely on Carra, who is a leader both on and off the field. We need more like him then we would be turning the draws into wins. One of the best defenders you will ever see, because that is what he is a defender, organiser and leader.

EVO YNWA

I know that I will get shot to pieces for this but here goes.

I honestly think that Carra is our best defender all round. Skrtel looks a world beater sometimes but he is far to prone to high profile mistakes and sloppy play, Agger is great in the air and plays out well from the back but neither has the 'last ditch' ability or leadership qualities of Carragher. Although some the eye catching spectacular lunges and the well documented yard of pace may have slipped from his game, Carra still deals with the nitty gritty fantastically well. we look much more organised with him at the back and other players look more comfortable next to him. I think Wisdom in particular looks twice the player alongside Carra. Also, I honestly don't believe that there has been anyone at the club since he arrived with more commitment and desire. I think if BR gave him a brush, he would sweep the stands for us.

Im not suggeting that he is still the player he was in the mid 00s or that he should be playing week in week out, just that he has often overlooked qualities that still set him apart. hence why we have still not managed to replace him properly.

This is only my opinion and yes, it is probably quite biased but I still dream of a team of Carraghers. DontBuyTheScum!

He is way past his best let's not forget he was organising the defenc the other day when we conceded 2 goals.

My memories fine dread. I've always though of him as the Chris Morgan of Marsh Lane. In the good ole days when we were Champions League regulars, I actually thought he had a sponsorship deal with Mastercard as most of his touches used to smash straight into their advertising around the pitch.

What a difference half a season makes. The last time we played City we had just been embarrassed by WBA and we were unbeknown to us about to make the lowest league start for many years. Now their is optimism as if we win today will only be four points from CL places. Enrique, Henderson & Downing are showing how valuable that they can be as well Lucas & Gerrard both being fit and playing. What has surprised me most though is Jamie Carragher at 35 years old he is playing some of his best football in years. Rodgers has proven that his style of play is easy on the eye and can destroy lesser teams (a problem which we have had for several years) although we are still to beat a team from the top half of the season that is down to bad decisions Suarez vs. the bitters and the goal vs. Swansea. I am not saying this is the only reason though as we need to defend better from dead ball situations as well as control physical players who out muscle our own players. The future is red and regardless of where we finish this season I will still be supporting this great club even though it is the cause of some of my worst heart aches it also is the cause of some of my greatest moments. I love this club and always will do and we will get back where we belong which is as the most successful club in England. YNWA

Jordan Henderson - everything that is wrong with modern day football today.

I'm fan, followed Liverpool since I was 5, home and away for years, i'm now 32. I optimise everything about the current season ticket holder and general follower of the 19 clubs in the Premiership!

When we win i'm delighted but never get carried away, I tend to want more from the players because we all know you can give more for the cause. This leads to me Mr Henderson, he has all the toes as Rodgers would state. I watch the lad in an England shirt and he looks composed, elegant on the ball and more capable of being our midfield dynamo for years to come. I also was impressed the season he single handidly like Gerrard carry them in the majority of games, yes the fee was excessive but our negoiators are poor at Liverpool, it needs to change but anyway he arrived and has obviously been labelled a flop, today it is madness. people demand results instantly because the business dictates it, the fans are posioned by the media spin and huge weight their is to compete at the top.

Granted Henderson didn't for a few reasons, 1. he's a small town boy, a mummies boy so to speak and maybe he was shocked by the sheer size and goldfish bowl aura around the club. the constant pressure and wanting that he would'nt of experienced at Sunderland, this can take time and a number of gentle reminders that 80% games are not good enough in a red shirt, you will be told on the street by knowledgeable fans who can disect you in an instant. many have and will be found out again along the way. My point is i'm pleased that Jordan has finally realised but i'm also furious that he has been allowed to after 3 impressive performances to pose like a film star outside melwood with a hollywood gaze under the headline "they told me I could go" followed by the whole story of his time here! surely this is what's wrong with the club/game atm lads. do you think that Shanks would allow his players who under perform to all of a sudden start acting this way just because he's done what he's supposed too? for me its an insult to my 750. 00 season ticket. Rodgers should rip that article up in the changing room in front of his wee eyes because if he thinks he's made it after 3 games talk to Gerrard and Carragher. The lad hopefully won't falter again in his Liverpool career otherwise I may print that off and send it into Melwood couriered for his personal viewing.
Peace.

Seriously what are you on about. Leave the lad alone. He's had a rough time and has worked his socks off to turn it around so give him credit.

Neilp

Do you think Henderson wrote the headline? He was probably asked for a picture by the club photographer - did you want him to pull a funny face? You have chosen your example poorly - if there was ever a player who has put his head down, trained hard, keeps a low profile, and works his socks off to try and force his way into the team with his work on the training pitch, it is young Jordan. He is no prima donna, but an example to many footballers and kids alike. Yes, there is a lot wrong with the game these days, but Henderson isn't one of them. As always, just my opinion.

Nick

Sorry but my opinion on him is still the same, below standard player. So he scores a couple of goals and he's become gerrard all of a sudden. I have seen him waste many attacking opportunities my medicore through balls. He reminds me of kuyt, just runs around with no end product. Coutinho in his position would do what a true brazilian would do, rip defences apart.

Surely it is pointless tryiny to compare what Shanks would have done 30 odd years sgo and what a modern manager would do now? Players, managers and football are not even close to being the same as they were then.

As for Henderson? I love the guy. He is no Gerrard but then again who is? Yet the way he celebrated his 2 goals lately tells me he has the balls for a fight. Thst alone will tske him a long way. He should be a Liverpool player for a long time.

The Irish Rover

Do you think he's in a position to decline the interview and the photo shoot that went along with it?

If you do then you have no idea, what dands are in modern footballers contracts. He was asked those questions and answered honestly, what is exactly wrong with that?

Rodgers will probably be delighted that he's getting positive attention, anything to sustain his confidence from fickle fans (of which there are plenty), that would see to see him fail so they could rub it in his face.

Yes modern football isn't perfect, but if you don't like it then don't watch and don't support.

Papa G

03 Feb 2013 13:22:20
So when they asked him for an interview, was he supposed to say no?

Hit the nail on the head there spudred. What a pathetic post. Henderson had had a hard time but he's working through it, and that goal against the arse was all about sheer determination. His perseverance has made me think again about him. The poster obviously has absolutely no idea about how the press and media work.

Yeah because I'm sure Henderson thought up that journo story and captions all by himself! Muppet. its also called confidence building!. he's a hard worker Henderson and always has put maximum effort in, even when not playing the best. leave the lad alone. its people like you who makes young up and coming stars to lose their confidence

@Papa G, If the lad had any "sense" he would of declined the interview, he would of been aware of the glamourise effect and told where it would be posted and the like, so don't be so naieve mate. Henderson didn't have to say they said I could go, why bring it up mate? because it suited the sob story that's why. I also didn't question the lads balls, if you read I mentioned I was impressed and he has all the ability, what irked me was the fact he's given that interview with the naievety of a schoolkid.

Raelly hope we beat City today, I think we have a chance if we play like we did in the 2nd half against United and the 1st against Arsenal.

I really am not bothered with United securing their 20th League. If we were competing finacially and sitting 7th, then I'd be bothered.

The only club that can match the two Manchester clubs finacially is Chelsea and if I were a fan, I'd be bothered.

Will all you persons stop trying to sell Suarez. If you keep talking about it it might happen. We do not I repeat do not want the money as what he does for us is priceless. If we qualify for the champions league we will be looking at getting players to compliment him or better than him.
Stop talking about him wanting to go especially when he has come out and said he doesn't want to go. Please spend all your efforts on supporting the team

Champions League revenue and additional revenues from having World Class footballers in your side, is more beneficial than selling players like Suarez.

All the persons who keep dragging it up probably want it to happen, just so they can say they were right.

I reckon we should keep Carrol for situations where we need a plan be and he gives more security defending set pieces. I wouldn't start him, but a 70th minute impact sub, I can see working. Also we'll be even bigger laughing stocks if we let him go for half what we paid, considering he is young and he could end up being a decent forward.

JCJ

He won't stay here as a sub. He wants to play. He doesn't suit our footnall. I would rather have De Jong or whatever his name is from Holland. He is big like Carrol but can actually run pass and score

Slowpoke

Sort of like Part-time? But on full time wages? Nice

kidmillions

35 million is a very expensive plan B.
Redgrant

Siem de jong is about 6 foot. Carrol has them few extra inches.

Like I said a plan B, i. e. Our style of play isn't working.

Other teams have impact subs on full time wages, see Hernandez at Utd and Dzeko at City!

And the 35 million has already been spent, what's done is done, make the best of a bad deal and utilise him. Like I said he might end up coming good.

- Something Red - {Ed002's Note - There is a reason we don't wish to open this matter up. Sorry.}

03 Feb 2013 02:10:11
"{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has had the same number of managers as Chelsea since Ancelotti left the club and Benitez left Liverpool. "

Well first off, Ancelotti left 2 years after Rafa, so where Liverpool have had 3 managers in 4 years, Chelsea have had 3 in 2 years. And secondly, I never said Liverpool have done things right. We haven't.

"As I have explained before, if it isn't working then it needs to be changed. LIke cutting a bad part out of an apple. Barcelona had half a dozen managers in about three years at the start of the 00s. Real Madrid has had 10 managers in the last 10 years - Inter 6 in the past three years. And so it goes. }"

But at what point do you decide its not working? Ancelotti wasn't working becuase Chelsea failed to win the league or Champions League. Fair enough if that's the standard you want to have, but two years and three managers on, there's a really good chance that Chelsea will drop of the top 4 this season. And they definitely won't win the league or Champions League. Kind of seems to have defeated the purpose? As I stated before, that Chelsea squad is a lot better than fretting over top 4, and I do not think they'd be in this situation if Ancelotti was still in charge.

Liverpool aren't a million miles from that situation either. Rafa was sacked for finishing 7th. His replacement, Hodgson was sacked for being in 12th with more than half a season gone. The only very obviously positive change since Rafa was Kenny's first six months in charge where we were only bettered by the top 2 for form in that period, but it wasn't sustained. If we take an extreme, and say "well things aren't any better under Rodgers than they were under Kenny", and then apply the same logic to the next guy, as a disturbing number of Liverpool fans seem to want, I think we'll continue to languish around 7th and 8th more or less indefinitely, unless we stumble upon the right formula by luck.

As for Real and Barca, I don't think they're good comparisons. There hasn't been a sustained challenge from any other Spanish team in at least a decade, so they only have each other to worry about. Can't comment on Inter because I don't keep tabs on Serie A.

I know there are factors other than the manager, but he's usually cited as the man ultimately responsible. Changing that guy seasonally doesn't seem like the best option for either Chelsea or Liverpool currently.

- Something Red -

{Ed002's Note - You need to check some of your details - Liverpool and Chelsea have both had four managers in three and a half years. Also, Ancelotti did not leave Chelsea because Chelsea failed to win the league or Champions League (he did in fact win the league with Chelsea). The decision to let Ancelotti go was made between the Christmas and New Year in 2010.

I think the comparisons to Serie A and La Liga are perfectly reasonable with successful sides changing manager when things are not seen to be going well - and there are plenty of examples beyond those I gave - Juventus is another.

You are absolutely right about the manager not always being the one to blame and other matters disappearing when push comes to shove - and this is particularly true in both Italy and Spain where club owners and in some cases directors are far more vocal than they are in England or Germany. Add to that, the press in England is very different to that elsewhere in Europe; and the press can play a significant part in decisions to move managers on.}

Overall I agree with the post. Managers rarely get it right immediately. Changing the manager constantly surely can't help a team progress. Sometimes, however, a manager just doesn't 'fit', and has to go (I will give Roy as an example). Historically Liverpool have kept their managers for a long time - it has only been in the last 20 years that we seem to have gone through so many - and I don't think it is coincidence that we havn't won the league in this time. We have made some poor decisions in choosing managers, and others just didn't work out, but in my opinion we have to stick with BR for at least 3 or 4 years before we even evaluate his progress. It is our best hope of putting together a title challenging side.

BR has done nothing to show he is the wrong man for the job. Yes, a few mistakes, but he is learning and deserves our support. I just think that the mentality of some of our supporters needs to be adjusted, we (LFC) support our managers. There should be NO pressure on him in that respect. Give him time, lend him our support, don't look backwards, and let's see where we go. Just my opinion.

Nick

Lets see how many managers each club has over the next 3 and a half years ;)

Red Raw

Firstly, changing a manager can have a massive effect on a team, even if you have the majority of the players. You just have to look at Hodgson and then Kenny taking over. Practically the same team yet massively different results. Not wanting to play for a manager? Tactics? Who knows, but there are arguements for changing a manager.

Secondly, it is no coincidence that in the last 20 years that we have changed our manager more often because we haven't been as succesful as we had been previous. I mean 17 other Premier League teams would love to have our lack of success over the last 20 years but it isn't good enough for a team wanting to win the league again.

Lastly, Rodgers in my opinion has not improved our results. i'm saying this without rose tinted glasses on. The exit of 2 cups and our position in the league show this. He will also, I hope, not have any players banned for 8? games and the circus that surrounded it for months after, or 2 cup runs. I beleive he should be doing better. The great defence we had last year has fallen apart anx I don't think we have scored many more goals if any. He should be doing better, but I think and hope we will have a fantastic end to our season and I see no reason not to be in the top 4 or maybe 3, especially the way Chelsea are playing. Yet if we stay roughly where we are then I see no reason why Rodgers should not pay with his job. I would not be too worried about a successor bacause when Fsg gave Brendan the job they opened up a whole new avenue of managers they could employ.

Lets hope it doesn't come to that, starting with today. Off course you can see us winning today, our first win over a team above us all season and effectively handing the title to Utd. Oh the irony! But we have to look after ourselves and get that top 4. That is much more important.

The Irish Rover

Irish Rover - I see your point - chicken or the egg. Did we change managers because they underperformed, or did the changing of managers and players on a regular basis make us underperformed? I'm just saying give him a while to learn and improve. I would rather give a manager who is playing attractive attacking football a long spell in charge than a more defensive, tactical minded manager. We can't afford it financially to keep changing gaffers, so I'm just saying let this one have a proper go at it.

not saying we are going to win the league, however if we keep luis, and buy or promote a sammi type of cd, we will be in top 2 next year, its same old same old for Liverpool last year not conceding to much but no goals, now goals but leakin 2 many, we always spend big in the windows c'mon fsg spend big on def, have no idea who because who watches defenders but our attack is gud enough

Sorry mate, but we're years behind the two Manc clubs. If we manage to crack the top 4 in the next couple of years we will have done very well. A top 2 finish is currently a long, long way off in my opinion.

WE still aren't scoring enough. Arsenal game we missed so many chances that Manchester United would have put away.

Why do we need a sammi cd? Lol

Cuz sammi is a singer, you didn't knew this : )

Every time I happen upon a Stoke game on television, one of their players is wearing a bandage around his headbone. Is Stoke making a habit of head injuries, or have they changed the captains armband into a captains headband?

Win needed boys for any chance! good forward line average defence, sh e midfield them. Get side right Brendan! we can win this! ( just get side right for once!, at least start side!)

If only we had Joe Hart, 3 points would be in the bag.
We'll score at least once but will we win?
I would play 5 at the back Johnson, Skyrtel, Carra, Agger and Enrique. Keep them out win 1-0
No gifts please.

Any chance of keeping posts to ones that are at least legible?

Hey.

What about Ronaldinho?
Experienced and not too expensive and his contract is finished soon.
He is showing his great quality again aswell.
Lets bring him to the PL. : -)

Diego Maradona is off contract too! He's shown the odd good touch and would come cheap.
