Sorry but I've got to disagree with a lot of the posters on here in regards to Moreno, don't get me wrong he has made his mistakes, but he has all the attributes to become a brilliant lb. I don't think we need a replacement, just back up. He is still young and can improve. Is everyone forgetting we nearly won the league with cissokho or no lb. so just wait an see how it pans out before we all start crying.

Believable8 Unbelievable17

03 Aug 2016 23:44:22
He has more potential to be a left winger he is constantly caught out of position after flying up the flank when we have the ball then he strolls back when we lose position he is just plain awful.

03 Aug 2016 23:47:08
Right now i'd guesd we won't get a new LB so let's hope Moreno proves us all wrong and improves on his defensive game.

03 Aug 2016 23:48:35
He can't defend and Flagan was move to lb because cissokho was crap.

04 Aug 2016 00:19:40
Flanagan played LB more times than Cissokho that season, and don't forget that we conceded over 50 goals that season, and the defending was the reason we didn't win the league.

Moreno has had 2 years, and has shown no signs of improvement and I think this will be his last at Liverpool if he doesn't learn how to defend.

04 Aug 2016 00:14:43
A brilliant left back? Sorry but just because he is slightly okay going forward does not mean he has the attributes to be a brilliant left back. That is the problem these days, everyone thinks a speedy wing back who can supply goals from decent wing play and link up attacks well, that he is doing a good job?

I mean have we totally forgot about the defensive side of the game. The players who can do both are great players, but in this day and age there are very little of them Alaba for me being at the top of his game in that position.

Moreno cannot defend, positionally, tactically or physically he has pace, but it often uses that while sprinting back from being out of position to make a rash/ failed challenge, give him 3-5 years and he could be okay but we cannot afford to give him that time.

As for nearly winning the league with Aly Cissokho he was a totally different player, full back compared to a wing back. Absolutely dreadful going forward, passing the ball, but he could defend and unlike Moreno used his pace to his advantage.

04 Aug 2016 01:03:39
Lets play markovic there again.

04 Aug 2016 03:00:12
OP, stop trying to pull the wool over people's eyes as it's embarrassing. Just like his fellow liability Migs, Moreno has been crap since he got here. He was always crap and could never defend. BR was warned that this was the type of player we would be getting but since BR couldn't defend against a team of statues is incompetent at defensive football, he took him on for the shambles he continues to be. The guy makes some of the worst decisions I've ever seen on a football pitch, defensively. The is always a WTF moment with him and don't get me started on the amount of goals he's caused. Brilliant left back? We will be drinking cold water in hell before that happens.

04 Aug 2016 05:30:49
Have you not seen Albertos flying karate kicks.

His complete un assedness when he is blatantly at fault for something.

That flipping back heel in the final when we were still in the game.

Moreno does what hr wants and its almost 87.22452% wrong. He's like that hard-faced (ed002? I joke ๐Ÿ˜‰) kid in a u12's team, the smart ass who knows da fooking LOT, and like were saying pass out of defence and he just starts wellying it just well cose he can, an is dad is der if I give i'm any grief about it.

Never once seen Moreno look upset that he cost a goal (like motivation that **** that's never happening again, hence why he doesn't learn)

Never seen him show any kids of willingness to play anyway other than his.

He has the lot skill wise but unfortunately not the head.

04 Aug 2016 07:55:12
Toccie - what are these attributes you claim he has to be a brilliant left back?

Positional awareness? Tactical awareness? Marking? Tracking runners? Tackling? Closing down crosses/ shots? Intercepting through balls? Ball control?
I have seen him play many times and he does not display any of these attributes. The only attributes he does display are pace and stamina.

04 Aug 2016 09:20:04
I've said it again and again he can't attack or defend he is completely one footed, gets caught out of position and those great lunging challenges some love are only needed because he is caught out and they will cause pelenties.

04 Aug 2016 10:16:38
I mean he has the physical attributes, the other parts of his game he can learn, which hopefully he does.

04 Aug 2016 11:19:46
Its not a matter of learning, skill, attributes or any of that crap anymore with moreno.

Just watch his pure, basic decision making in matches. Stuff that someone who never kicked a ball in their life could work out. He seemingly has something mentally unstable with him. He isn't just a bad left back, his decision making is so bad it shoots our own team in the foot every single match.

03 Aug 2016 20:40:21
With Benteke and Ballotelli going il be blown away if we don't sign another forward, I think we need something different up top, I'd take Morata all day long.

Believable2 Unbelievable19

03 Aug 2016 21:36:07
We have 3 strikers plus Firmino. Not sure what different are you referring here. Kindly note, Klopp plays only one up top. Morratta is never going to happen.

03 Aug 2016 21:36:24
Indeed, my friend, we also need to get rid of those useless gits Sturridge, and Origi, and Ings, and Mane and Firmino when we are at it! How dare they play as forwards when we could easily have Morata up front!

Young Ben Woodburn too. Give him a few years, and he will ruin our transfer of Higuain.

03 Aug 2016 21:38:10
Sturridge, Origi, Ings. Firmino can play upfront too and that's just senior strikers!

And suggesting Morata must surely be a joke!

We don't need a striker at all!

03 Aug 2016 21:43:44
So you think that we need an additional forward to Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Firmino and even at a push Mane? Glad you aren't in charge.

03 Aug 2016 22:37:30
OP, you may not know this but Morata in now at Real and we have three no. 9's already so we don't need a striker. Also, you don't replace player who wouldn't even make the bench. That makes no sense.

03 Aug 2016 23:37:40
Why replace what's never used?

04 Aug 2016 00:20:53
Get ready to be blown away then. 3 forwards plus Firmino is plenty enough for a season where we will initially only play 40 games.

03 Aug 2016 20:30:45
I did a quick search already before anyone says it!
Are there any updates on interested parties for Benteke other than Palace?
Does anyone actually see Balotelli leaving in this window? I don't at this rate!
Is Lallana staying or going?
There just doesn't seem to be any movement on these guys, the only reason I bring Lallana in is because of the new signings and current squad size for his positions - but I accept I could be wrong.
Don't mind if this is in rumours or banter, just wanted to ask supporters for gossip and opinions.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

03 Aug 2016 21:50:36
Think most of our players leaving will be towards the back end of the window, most likely other clubs panic buying. Balotelli will be a transfer deadline job.

03 Aug 2016 23:44:11
I can see Benteke leaving, funny enough, Everton might be looking for another striker if Chelsea come calling for their big man . but, I can only hope Balo does leave, for his own sake, but who will buy him, and pay his huge wages, I don't want Liverpool paying part of his wages .

04 Aug 2016 00:21:42
Got an interesting text from a mate who has a contact, and that if Everton lose Lukaku to Chelsea, they will look to buy Benteke, that would be strange, but it would work .

04 Aug 2016 07:22:31
Thanks for replies all.
I hope Benteke gets a move for him and us - Everton would be a good move.
Balo agent too busy with Pogba deal to try and find club, we need Pogba deal done for him to get on with it!

03 Aug 2016 20:17:58
I'm sensing a shift in feeling re our signing of a left back from optimism to fear.

I have to say I can certainly understand it. A poor player shown up all last season and a midfielder as our only options is scary.

Am I the only one that thinks we should just keep Flanno and play him there? He was excellent in that position a few years back and has to be the best option currently at the club. If we can't get in who JK wants then we keep Flanno - simple, right?

Believable8 Unbelievable5

03 Aug 2016 22:11:37
Any chance of getting Paul Konchesky?

03 Aug 2016 22:24:59
We haven't had a decent left back since the Riise and Aurelio years (aside from Flanaghan's one year stint there) and it's time we got one. They've plugged in the holes in midfield, defense and goalkeepr (Grujic, Mane, Matip and Karius) and I'm confident something good will happen with the LB riddle in the next 3 weeks.

03 Aug 2016 18:46:21
I am probably one of if not Moreno's biggest critic. In fact even before he signed I was very vocal in my protest.

However; if we do not sign a left back then we will just have to accept that. Ridiculing him and spewing all manner of vitriol is completely counter intuitive. If he stays then his only chance at improvement is if he is supported.

I pray to god that we do sign a replacement, but if we don't then deal with it. We still beat some top teams last season with him in the side, and if the others players do their part, hopefully Moreno (and Mignolet initially at least) will be less exposed.

Moreno is a poor player. His passing is weak, his crossing lacklustre, his defending shambolic and his tackling rash. We all know that; I am not denying that. But you are all just going to have to accept that right now, he looks very likely to start against Arsenal, unless Milner is favoured.

There is a very fine line between being honest, and being harsh. 24/ 7 posts (some posters constantly repeating the same attacks) about this is just making Liverpool fans on the whole look like malicious internet trolls.

Believable13 Unbelievable12

03 Aug 2016 19:35:38
Mk you have just attacked him with your post.

03 Aug 2016 20:10:11
Eamon, like he said there's a very fine line between honest and harsh.

03 Aug 2016 20:19:18
Milner will start .

03 Aug 2016 20:17:14
Yeah Adam you did kind of just lay into him yourself there haha
I am more annoyed at the club for this mess rather than Moreno, not really his fault he's not good enough.

03 Aug 2016 20:37:03
I totally agree MK 100%, if he plays for us support him ๐Ÿ‘.

03 Aug 2016 21:30:30
Is it harsh saying that neither Moreno or Milner is good enough to play fullback? I don't think it is, as it is a statement of fact. Is it fair to say that Moreno cost us important matches last season? Yes, that is fair to say. Is it also fair to say that playing square pegs in round holes is a bad idea too? (James Milner in centre midfield for example. )? I think it is, as it doesn't work. I've seen nothing to suggest that Moreno has improved and Milner out of position is equally as bad a suggestion. We're going into the season with Mignolet as first choice keeper (albeit only through injury), Moreno as our left back and a weak soft centred midfield, we're a soft touch and the opposition know that.

03 Aug 2016 21:33:39
Eamon I am not claiming he is the worst player in history, or the worst left back in the world etc. As savvy pointed out, I did explain where I see the differences between honesty and abuse. You can explain a players weaknesses and call for them to be replaced without acting like a child.

I'm very clearly stating what I have always maintained: That he has various deficiencies and isn't good enough for us.

That doesn't mean I have to make stuff up and make ridiculous claims.

Moreno is not great. We know that. But people are acting as though he will single handedly relegate us next season. It is ridiculous!

I will admittedly be worried if we go into next season with Moreno as our first choice left back, but I am not going to make stuff up about him or go over the top with subjective nonsense. He is limited, and he is a weak link. However look at how poor some of the full backs were in the top 4 last season; Rose, Walker, Simpson, Monreal, Sagna etc. None of those players are particularly good. So I just don't think people acting like our season is over already are being reasonable. We did actually get to two finals last season with Moreno; regardless of his performances in the finals themselves.

It will not be ideal to have Moreno and Milner as our left back options, but I am not going to cry and sulk about it. I will certainly not turn on Moreno as if it is his fault that the club signed him and made him our first choice left back!

03 Aug 2016 21:43:41
Klopp will improve the whole team with or without new signings ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

03 Aug 2016 22:27:23
I don't understand why people are angry with the club? They didn't think Chilwell was worth what Leicester wanted so didn't pay it yet when they sign Mane for more than some would like they are wrong for that too! Chilwell is unproven at premier league level and our manager, scouts and the owners will know a hell of a lot more about him than any of us.

Just let people do their jobs and if the right player isn't available this window then hopefully we get him next window. Milner/ Flanno are adequate stop gaps until the right guy comes in but Rome wasn't built in a day! Relax people!

03 Aug 2016 22:45:33
MK, you are not saying anything that many of us don't already know. Of course, we will support all our players as they are part of LFC. What other choice do we have? Support the opposition? That is not the point. We know Moreno is a lost cause and Milner is not a defender so fans are furious as to how and why we got here and that is legitimate. The club's ability to screw up easy deals due to reasons only known to them, is uncanny, almost in-burn.

How do you not pay 10m for Chilwell who wast the first choice target but have no issues forking out 25m for a player many believe we don't need? Please explain that to me because I don't get it. This is what gets people's goats so allow people to vent their frustrations in hope that a left back will come in by end of the month.

03 Aug 2016 23:16:12
Good lad frankly mixing up fact with opinion again. because if we sold Moreno he'd never get a game at lb at any club world wide.

This is getting ridiculous you would swear that even if we score 10 a game with Moreno in the team we'll still lose. is this really where we're at? Long term solution no clearly not but people on here are suggesting there's no chance of success with either Milner or Moreno playing.

How about defending from the front more effectively to limit his work defensively and focusing our attacks down the right at that rate we may just get away with fielding no lb which is apparently preferable to some.

04 Aug 2016 00:01:16
Have no idea if he is good or not, but can't Klavern play left back as well?

04 Aug 2016 00:40:42
I think some of you have forgotten some of our abject defeats last season, which caused by poor goalkeeping, a weak central midfield and an incompetent left back. We're going into the new season with all those things still in place and expecting different results.

It's all very well saying things like 'defend from the front' but that's meaningless if we have a left back who has no idea how to do the basics, we have a soft centre in midfield and a goalkeeper who always has the appearance of a rabbit caught in the headlights.

04 Aug 2016 03:07:27
Defending from the front? Go ask Aguero to do that and see how much abuse you get. Moreno is awful and that's that. We have visual and statistics to prove that, end of story. All I hear after that are hollow excuses and blind hope that a consistently poor player will somehow cone good. Good luck with that.

{Ed001's Note - Aguero does defend from the front though. Not at the same level as Rushie did, but he certainly attempts to put pressure on defenders and stop easy balls being played.}

04 Aug 2016 07:39:25
One, detect the sarcasm I thought I'd made it obvious by saying we should field 10 men but hey maybe I'm giving too much credit. Two, missing the point as per usual picking one line of a post and writing more twisted speeches off the back of it. This site is worse than politics sometimes.
Mk is right when he says there's no good to come from just spewing vitriolic slander towards Moreno or mignolet it doesn't accomplish anything and it certainly doesn't help them do any better. Finally though even with both of these players playing I'm going to say it's an absolute fact (for you shankly) that we beat arsenal 3-1 next weekend!

04 Aug 2016 07:40:25
Cincy red please show me these statistics mate you've obviously studied them very hard.

04 Aug 2016 08:21:38
Totally agree the over the top stuff is unnecessary, but the fact is the lad has at least one brain fart a game which he sometimes gets away with or it costs us in some way.

I think some people are more frustrated with the fact the club has been totally inept once again and messed up on a priority area yet again.

Whether we replace him or not we still should have enough to play most teams off the park so i agree let's just get on with it.

03 Aug 2016 18:10:17
We can all go on about a left back forever, hopefully Klopp has someone in mind maybe not for sale yet and he may not rate Leicesters left back. Hope we get someone but first let's hope he gets shut of the rubbish we have at are club.

Believable1 Unbelievable9

03 Aug 2016 20:26:08
A lot of people rate Chidwell, and some of the big clubs will go for him after he completes his first full season, we should consider him too, tho I wouldn't go to a club that messed him about . yes we need to move on a couple more players that will not feature this coming season . but they are not rubbish .

03 Aug 2016 20:57:42
How about 3-2-4-1, just with no left back. Equally as vulnerable down the left but no rash tackles and an extra attacking mid!

03 Aug 2016 22:47:48
We already tried the 3-5-2 with BR and it doesn't work as we don't have the players to suit that formation. Move on!

03 Aug 2016 17:51:12
Is ben Davies that bad ed and who do you think the left back to replace monero should be thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - yes he is and it should have been Chilwell.}

03 Aug 2016 19:54:29
Well it's not Chilwell so who wound be a good fit now.

03 Aug 2016 20:25:20
I'd take Amavi in a heartbeat, hopefully Villa weaken their position but it is definitely a position that we are in dire need of strengthening.

03 Aug 2016 17:54:19
Is luan a possibility for liverpool I would love to see morata sign but sadly not going to happen.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

03 Aug 2016 17:15:22
Eds thanks for all the replies. I'd just like to say. Rather than hounding you about left backs. How about some of the posters maybe try and be a bit positive for the new season. It's klopps first season and I am personally looking forward to it. Moreno is our player. Fair enough he wasn't great last season but he will improve and I know klopp will help him improve or else what's the point in even having a coach. Is a coaches role now just to go out and replace players if they have a rough season. I get what klopp is trying to do and I think he believes that he can improve moreno amongst others. Some players already improved as soon as he arrived but I'm sure mignolet might also improve with new competition. It's not all bad guys. Ynwa.

Believable7 Unbelievable3

03 Aug 2016 17:50:03
Totally agree.

03 Aug 2016 20:58:44
He's had a long time to improve, he doesn't seem to learn.

03 Aug 2016 21:31:35
You'd have to buy the boy a brain to start with.

03 Aug 2016 16:51:15
Ok
Yes we need a FB maybe 2?

But i can't get over all this thrash talk when people hear Milner would be a better option than Moreno.

Going on whos available at the moment within the squad James Milner is the best option by a long mile in comparison to Moreno. He has played in every position on the field except GK since he joined the club, never once complained, always gets on with it and puts in 110% effort no matter where he is played.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

03 Aug 2016 18:02:29
No one questions Milner's attitude. It's his ability (at left back) that's the problem - and it's a big one.

03 Aug 2016 18:19:42
Its better than what we already have is it not?

03 Aug 2016 20:30:45
What's that, that Milner is a better left back than Moreno? Maybe he is, marginally, but the bottom line is that neither are good enough for where we want to be, hence all the posts about it on here.

03 Aug 2016 20:31:35
Do you not agree that if we have any thoughts at all of a top four spot, then we shouldn't have such a makeshift defence, and a goalie that couldn't catch a cold .

03 Aug 2016 22:53:30
The simple fact of the matter is that we shouldn't be in this position.

03 Aug 2016 16:26:15
Hi Eds,
Sorry if this question seems very random but I'm curious about something that happened a while ago.
Do we know why Jordon Ibe left the club? I know it could be simply and Klopp doesn't think he is good enough but I remember reading he deleted some things from Twitter profile? Was just wondering if there was anything else to it like some attitude problem. Sorry to ask such random thing!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Klopp did not think he was good enough.}

03 Aug 2016 17:36:03
I reckon the lad will struggle with his weight.

03 Aug 2016 23:08:55
He's absolutely Poison. An English version of Ryan Babel with a terrible shot.

03 Aug 2016 16:53:21
This season will really show how good a coach/ manager Klopp and his staff are. With the quality of players the big teams are signing it will be a tuff league. More so than previous years. I know the draw that Liverpool now have is for players with potential and maybe we can make them into top players but the way things are looking 4th would be a great step forward this year.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

03 Aug 2016 16:00:55
Hey ed any chance of a marquee signing and please say the ones you want us to but thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - no and not interested in fantasy stuff.}

03 Aug 2016 16:57:18
Oh the classic marquee signing.

03 Aug 2016 18:05:59
While you're there Eds. Can you tell us how much is in the warchest? .

03 Aug 2016 19:55:55
Who does marquee play for fans always linking us with him.

03 Aug 2016 20:15:42
He plays for losevouille United.

03 Aug 2016 22:51:24
You can sign the back of a marquee tent.

03 Aug 2016 15:46:58
Just read a reply on rumours where a poster states he's sick of not paying what's needed to get players in at the same time as moaning we can't get rid of some of our players.
Catch 22, if we give them massive wages to move to us and they flop, we can't get rid of them.
What's to say we spend ยฃ20 million on Amavi and then he becomes the next one we should never have bought and can't get rid of.?

Believable9 Unbelievable2

03 Aug 2016 19:35:32
Stop buying rubbish players, start buying good ones.
I've nailed it.

03 Aug 2016 20:34:36
Stop buying players that won't be playing, simple .

03 Aug 2016 15:30:09
Curious the thoughts of the posters and eds, assuming we don't sign a LB (which would be ridiculous), who do you prefer gets the start, Milner or Moreno? For me it's Milner, he is not a perfect defender but I don't think anyone can be positionally worse than Moreno. I also think Emre Can can fill in at LB, didn't he play in that position for Germany?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Milner.}

03 Aug 2016 15:41:39
Scary thought that Milner is going to have to try and contain alexis sanchez/ ox on the 14th.

03 Aug 2016 16:43:51
I would rather without anyone. Add an extra midfielder. Milner's positional sense is awful hence he doesn't get to play in the middle. He will be dragged up and down by Alexix / Cambell on the opening day.

03 Aug 2016 17:08:02
When i've seen Can play at full back it's not been great - let's not go there. I'd be tempted to go with 3 CBs and see what happens - put Moreno at left wing back so he doesn't have to dwfend quite so much.

03 Aug 2016 22:05:51
Better still. Put him on the bench.

03 Aug 2016 22:52:52
Can is aweful at FB. See season 14/ 15 for proof.

03 Aug 2016 23:49:30
Why not start Klavan at left back?

03 Aug 2016 15:18:29
One for Ed001 if you have the time.

Worst left back - Moreno or Konchesky?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - Moreno.}

03 Aug 2016 15:59:56
Ah come on Ed! Surely he's not that bad haha.

{Ed001's Note - he is.}

03 Aug 2016 16:20:59
That's a shocker! I thought Konchesky won a contract in a raffle?

03 Aug 2016 16:44:31
Hard to choose between them. Just cannot defend. There is no better or worse.

03 Aug 2016 16:52:20
Think back - for as bad as he was I don't remember as many goals you can point to being solely Konchesky's fault. He was better defensively minded. Moreno has bundles more pace but that's about all he has over Konchesky.

03 Aug 2016 16:36:37
For once I have to disagree with the Eds, Konchesky was the worst Liverpool player I have ever seen, though I can only speak from 1963 onwards.

03 Aug 2016 17:38:27
Serious this.

But Balotelli is the worst player I have ever seen at the club.

{Ed001's Note - agreed.}

03 Aug 2016 22:54:39
At least Kontchesky could actually defend. Moreno is just poor and had he had no pace, not sure he would have made it as a footballer because he's just awful.

03 Aug 2016 14:57:36
Hi Ed01, interested in your thoughts on a couple of Wales players from a liverpool point of view. Williams age aside is an experienced PL CB who is vocal and manages his back four well and seems to not be injury prone, similar if you like to a steve brusc type player. Now Matip's injuries are beginning to worry me given our record over recent years with signings, and given we conceeded a headed goal again against chelsea i still worry about Lovren. And Sakho just looks clumsy to me ( i await the replies from the same people who always rated Enrique but now deny it ) . The other player Is Ben Davies at Spurs, he is young enough but has experience and is not first choice, a steady LB who may be tempted by a gaurentee of first team football must have been worth consideration over a a young Chillwell who offers nothing at this stage but potential. Given how much we have spent on CB's and full backs over the last 20 years and especially recently with little success, do you think these two would add to our current options? with Karius and Matip I believe they add experience and leadership which always appears lacking of late.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Williams is an excellent captain but an extremely average defender, his positioning is lacking. That is why Swans struggled the moment they tried to change their style and give him less protection. I never rated Enrique and was against his signing but Sakho looks clumsy and is far from it. Very good player.

Ben Davies is crap. Awful player who lacks the basic fitness levels required of the role. Chilwell is already a far far better player than him.}

03 Aug 2016 15:46:05
Its going to take time for Klopp to change or improve everything, but the quicker we improve our transfer end, the better, the more I hear about the possible Chilwell signing and the Balo situation, the more I get negative, there is still time, but the season starts very soon, and once again, we have a very tough start, with a still shaky defence, just hope we score more goals than them .

03 Aug 2016 13:14:05
Hey mr edd 1 can you confirm that there will be a live stream for your upcoming wedding. A friend insists you will be live streaming it for us but I've not seen any details. Any how i wish it to be a glorious day for the bride and yourself. xx.

But If i had a sister, everyone probably would have had a go by now.

03 Aug 2016 13:31:48
oh I am so sorry mr ed terrible news. Hope it all sorts out for you xx if not there is always harry xxxxx.

{Ed001's Note - it could be worse mate, we have Klopp as manager so nothing is all that bad....}

03 Aug 2016 13:57:35
Could've been worse you could've been married and have her rinse you for everything.

{Ed001's Note - very true.}

03 Aug 2016 14:28:52
She got smitten by my good looks when she saw me in the message I Sent to. ed on his bday ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚. Realized she could do better.
In all seriousness hard luck mate.

03 Aug 2016 14:40:32
Chin up Ed. No one to whinge how much footy you watch!

I had the same last year but at the time Klopp took over the ex went off with a bloody German. So both my loves at the time ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

All the best mate.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate. All water under the bridge.}

03 Aug 2016 14:57:42
How come Ed001 gets to escape his life sentence!

I can't get rid of mine.

03 Aug 2016 15:08:26
You only need one Bird ed. She's on the Liverpool Crest.

{Ed001's Note - very true.}

03 Aug 2016 15:14:03
Sorry to hear that Ed01, but chin up, I hear Ed02 is single. And you and her work together, so there's chemistry there.

{Ed001's Note - hahaha far too old for me. Plus Ed007 is madly in love with her.}

03 Aug 2016 16:36:28
wait ED02 is a female OMG I've address her as a he. ED02 amd so sorry .

03 Aug 2016 17:49:55
Sorry to hear that ed, better to find out now before you get hitched. We will help to keep you occupied, footie back in a few and russian drugged fuelled olympics to look forward to. โ˜บ.

03 Aug 2016 12:59:29
Hi Ed,

Celtic and Liverpool fan, read site a lot and keep seeing about a LB being urgently required (Which I agree) hard question to answer but do you know what the opinion is on the left back situation from Klopp and his team, considering a few of our options were available and cheap which we decided against, do they see improvement there in Moreno or maybe a promotion in a younger lad. appreciate the time you put in ED.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - they just made a mess of signing the ones they targeted.}

03 Aug 2016 13:24:21
There is no improvement for Moreno, ever IMO.

03 Aug 2016 13:27:08
We still looking at Amavi ed or has that passed by now also?

03 Aug 2016 12:14:39
Have we looked at coentrao as an option for left back?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

03 Aug 2016 13:02:50
Not good enough and can`t defend and his wages alone, are a problem.

03 Aug 2016 16:46:01
As good as Moreno.

03 Aug 2016 10:32:49
Ed01 I've read that Luke Garbutt is available and maybe i'm putting 2 and 2 together but wasn't we looking at him last year or so before he signed a new deal?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - we did look at him before under Rodgers, but he chose to stay at Everton. His last season was poor, so I doubt Klopp would have seen any reason to look at him.}

03 Aug 2016 12:54:06
I watched him quite a bit while he was on loan at Fulham (I have season tickets) and he didn't really stand out at all for me. I would rather we looked elsewhere

Red Sandman.

{Ed001's Note - he was much better before his loan there, odd that he struggled so badly there. He had excellent deadball delivery at Everton, which is something we lack.}

03 Aug 2016 10:16:54
Can I just say what a fantastic win last night for Dundalk F. C. (Home town of Stephen Staunton) They are now just two games away from the group stages of the CL. Fantastic advertisement for Irish football.

Believable11 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2016 10:48:34
Unbelievable result Barry.

03 Aug 2016 12:10:53
Great shout, that's them in the group stages of Europa League so quids in!

03 Aug 2016 09:51:43
Personally I think we've been crying out for a DoF for years now. Someone who has a plan for every player in each window, whether its a loan, being sold or buying someone and take that load of off the managers shoulders.

I love Klopp, I think he's brilliant and I'm excited to see where he takes us. However, I do think a DoF would provide invaluable guidance when it comes to managing the 1st team squad and youth squad. Especially making sure the 1st squad isn't too bloated to block the promising youth coming through.

We still need to sell a huge amount of players. Whilst Klopp will be thinking about the impending league games coming up; starting 11, tactics etc.

Not sure how clear I've been but hopefully you all understand where I'm coming from. What does everyone else think?

Cheers.

Believable16 Unbelievable4

03 Aug 2016 10:08:27
I agree with you - a world class DoF can make a big difference to the running of the club and its overall success - and I think it would have helped us avoid some of our previous transfer catastrophes. Not sure if we'll ever get one though and to be honest, except for a few posters on here mentioned Monchi, am unaware of those who are either good or bad DoF. Time will tell I guess.

03 Aug 2016 10:25:19
Obviously in an ideal world what you describe would be great. But what happens if with a dof we finish 8th, then is it the dofs fault is it the managers do you fire one fire both. Is the dof going to be untouchable as essentially he is the one with the long term plan for the club? I think a dof can complicate a lot of matters when things are not going so well.

03 Aug 2016 10:46:47
We had one with commoli and that worked out well.

03 Aug 2016 11:20:32
Call me insane but, without knowing who ed 2 is, I think we could do a lot worse than him (/ her? ) .

{Ed001's Note - you are insane!}

03 Aug 2016 11:28:03
Swish, Comolli wasn't a DoF, he was a moron.

03 Aug 2016 12:16:44
Didn't Comolli sign Suarez?

03 Aug 2016 12:24:24
Lol fair call toon. It's obvious there seems to be some disconnect behind the scenes, I'm just not convinced we need a dof to fix it.

03 Aug 2016 13:33:07
It`s not about just having a DOF. It`s about having the right DOF to fit the way you want the club to be run and the philosophy you want to have on the playing side of things (senior squad, academy structure, tactics, systems etc) . For example, Monchi at Seville is a genius and he fits what Seville are and wants to be. The prob with LFC is that we don`t know who we are or what we wanna be which is why we have business people, not football people, running the club. You don`t run a big club the same way you run a big business and vice versa because there are certain nuances there that a business man cannot recognize and also, there is commercial business and football business, totally different things. Hence, football business men should be running football clubs, period.

03 Aug 2016 14:03:53
Klopp's and the mgt's transfer work this season is not over yet, if Ballo is in and no LB then I will worry. Right now, I am liking what I see being done, especially as each major problem area has relatively good legs competing for the limited game time.

03 Aug 2016 15:35:59
Start worrying mate, because were stuck with Balo, because no-one will go near him, I mean who would, the Left Back situation is a major problem, we have our new goalie, he will be back in a few weeks, better than ever, but really, to have no proper Left Back in the first team, what does that say for our top four chances .

03 Aug 2016 17:54:32
Ed002 would just sack everyone in the scout dept and tc straight away, then get rid of klipperty. No to ed02, that would be disastrous.

03 Aug 2016 09:47:30
Wow! Where has all the negativity come from? A loss to Roma in a pre season friendly, seriously?

Maybe look at the positives folks because I am really optimistic about this season.

We have jurgen Klopp as our manager, who the majority of us have wanted for years. He has picked our new signings and had plenty of time to decide who was not good enough acted swiftly and ruthlessly and got rid.

He has taken lovren Sakho and Can to another level. Ojo is a serious talent.

We still have firmino Sturridge and coutinho who I believe would get into any team in the premier league. Add to that a new keeper that everyone craved.

Believable10 Unbelievable1

03 Aug 2016 10:05:19
Agreed but I think everyone is concerned about the fullbacks, especially left back.

03 Aug 2016 10:11:00
The defensive issues that dogged us last season are still with us and now seem likely to remain unresolved. Those issues were one of the fundamental reasons we finished 8th last season instead of higher. It is hard to be optimistic when the area we need to strengthen is so obvious yet the club fails to act.

03 Aug 2016 10:53:10
We have acted on the defensive issues. Skrtel is gone, matip and klavan have come in. Migs in now no.2 to karius.

Obviously a left back is needed, we have tried to sign 2 but obviously felt they were over priced. Still along way to go in the transfer window.

03 Aug 2016 11:09:27
Agree Eamon, I personally am happy with Clyne at RB.

While we clearly have issues at LB with a lack of an experienced specialist, playing Milner or Gomez there for a few months and addressing the problem in Jan (assuming all else fails) isn't the end of the world either.

At CB I'm perfectly happy with Lovren and Sakho given how they performed towards the end of last season, and Matip and Klavan are very credible competition too.

Bear in mind we finished the Roma game with Wisdom and Stewart playing there, I do not see how the result is relevant to predicting our season.

03 Aug 2016 13:12:52
One of our down falls last season was a lot of possession but no end product/ cutting edge. I think that we have addressed that with Mane, a fit (hopefully) Sturridge, an ever improving Origi and a fit again Henderson. Yes the same defensive frailties exist potentially, but by the time Moreno has vacated left back and we get hit on the break or Migs has a clanger we should be out of sight!

Sorry if that's a little too positive an outlook for some, Ron I'm sure you're with me though ๐Ÿ˜„.

03 Aug 2016 13:39:37
Zimbo, Gomez (a CB) and Milner (a midfielder) are not LB`s and will be found out and eaten alive by other teams so that is not a solution. That is a bandaid that will get ripped off and the bleeding will start again. We need a true LB, not converted or part time LB`s, period. The issues could have been solved had we just paid the paltry 10m for Chilwell who was keen to come. Even if we didn`t want to pay the money, we should have had other options on deck BUT seemingly, that is not the case. Now we are stuck with potentially NO left backs worthy of the name (Milner, Gomez and the liability in chief Moreno, are not true LB`s) yet we want to challenge for honors vs teams who actuay HAVE true LB`s. Let me know if that makes sense to you because it doesn`t to me and many others.

03 Aug 2016 13:59:55
I hear you Higgins mate ๐Ÿ˜Ž

My outlook at the moment is this:
1) I'm not judging anything based on pre-season friendlies.
2) Look at the improvements Klopp made in the 7-8 months during last season. He didn't sign anyone (Caulker doesn't count ๐Ÿ˜‰) yet we played with more purpose and improved our defensive lapses at set pieces. Players who were ready for the scrap heap under the previous regime suddenly became MOM performers - Lucas and Sakho. Smith was on his way out but signed a new contract.
New players have come through - Ojo, Brannagan and Stewart. I can't think of one player who has gone backwards since Klopp arrived and the mood at Anfield and around Melwood has improved immeasurably.

All this achieved during one of our worst fixture congestions. Now Klopp has had them in pre-season he will continue to make great improvements. Just because we haven't signed 11 new players doesn't mean we still have the same problems as last year. Improved coaching will bear fruit.

Keep believing lads ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

03 Aug 2016 14:52:53
How on earth do you know that the same defensive problems remain? The problem area is left back, we have strengthened our central defenders. Matip is very experienced, quick, athletic and a good tackler. Klavan a captain for his country, reliable and a leader (fans already likening him to Skrtel, he's played a couple of games) Right back we have Clyne, who's reliable and consistent on the whole. Agreed, our cover is Randall who doesn't look ready but he can only get better if given game time. Are you basing this on a friendly against Roma? I'm convinced Liverpool will bring in a left back, although they will probably have to pay a large fee. Maybe they are waiting to sell Benteke before dipping into the market again. YNWA.

03 Aug 2016 14:57:41
With any luck Klopp will have realised that there was a gaping hole in midfield that Roma ran through at will and does something about that.

03 Aug 2016 15:09:34
Wiselfc I hopevthe only similarity klavan has with skrtel is his bald head.

03 Aug 2016 15:24:50
Good call Eamon! I think he will surprise a few once he gets used to Liverpool's style and the pace of the English game. I still have not seen Matip play in a red shirt, although I watched him play for Schalke several times. There are not many quick, assured CB's in the premiership, I think he'll fit in well.

03 Aug 2016 09:25:14
Eds on a completely side note, are you looking forwRd to the start of the new season?

Any expectations or targets you think are achievable?

Nervous of what our rivals have done in the transfer market?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - very excited mate, I think this is our best chance in years to do something. Klopp is as good as we can get. I really don't think what our rivals have done in terms of transfers is that much of an issue. It is more the turmoil of new regimes at most that is important.}

03 Aug 2016 10:16:40
I must admit I'm slightly apprehensive. What I have noticed tho is that when yourself and your colleagues reply to posts, depending on whether it's a positive or negative reply, it influences quite a large amount of people's moods.

I'd be more positive myself if we got the lb position sorted one way or the other. Either put it to bed or confirm Moreno is first choice. It must be messing with his head the uncertainty.

Thanks for reply eds.

{Ed001's Note - that's my major worry, but I believe in Klopp, it is the rest of the club that is letting us down right now.}

03 Aug 2016 10:35:40
Would agree with the Ed but would be a lot more confident if our first away games, were a bit more forgiving!

03 Aug 2016 10:49:47
Everyone's in the same boat with the first game. Doesn't matter who we play. If anything I'd prefer not to be meeting the newly promoted teams that will go out like its a cup final.

03 Aug 2016 11:10:59
I'm with you mate, best chance we've had in a long time to secure a top 4 if not better.

03 Aug 2016 12:47:02
Best chance of securing top 4? Are you serious. Unless something drastic happens, it will be an extremely competitive league next season. Last season was 'the best chance of securing top 4' type of season. I realise everyone is optimistic and excited and so am I to an extent but let's be realistic. I know because I've said that I'll get a large amount of dislikes so all I have to say now is 'we have klopp' and I bet that gets the people that disagree on side doesn't it.

03 Aug 2016 13:25:55
@kman92 you treat it like a popularity contest which you wanna win with very unpopular opinions!

03 Aug 2016 13:59:57
Kman, I agree with Ed. This season will be as open as last season as in, the team that makes the least mistakes will win.

03 Aug 2016 15:00:10
I have genuine concerns going into the new campaign.
(1) We still have Moreno as our only left back option (Milner is not and does not count as a left back) .
(2) We are still short of a proper defensively minded centre midfielder, the idea playing Milner or Wijnaldum in centre midfield is simply a recipe for disaster.
(3) We will be starting the season with Mignolet in goal.

03 Aug 2016 14:35:38
Are you confident that the likes of Can and Hendo will be able to offer our back four enough protection?

03 Aug 2016 16:44:32
Can't wait for the new season teams should be fearing us. YNWA.

03 Aug 2016 08:58:27
I may not get this right, but do we play Barcelona on Sat at home and then fly to Germany and play there the next day? And all this a week before our first game of the season? Assuming we play a strong team against Barcelona I assume it will be mainlythe academy kids against the Germans?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

03 Aug 2016 11:11:45
We'll have 2 diff squads, one that will travel while the other remains. Should be interesting.

03 Aug 2016 11:53:07
Barcelona to Germany is like an hours flight I'm sure the team will manage. They must spend more traveling to some away games on a coach in England.

03 Aug 2016 14:01:08
Two teams will be used, just like Wigan used two teams against us and Utd this pre-season.

03 Aug 2016 14:42:17
Thought the Barcelona game was at Wembley, not at home . and its on Sky, so I hope we put in a good performance, not expecting to win, not with you know who in goal and at Left Back, but a good solid team effort, and just hope that one of our strikers score, always like to see them bang one in, also think they need a goal too before we meet the Gunners .

03 Aug 2016 08:38:24
LB?

Joe McGuire!

Give the guy a chance. He has played very well for academy!

Bring the youngsters through!

Micheal Owen 18 years old and went on and on. Albeit to the others but we need to give these good young lads a go!

Believable3 Unbelievable2

03 Aug 2016 12:22:25
he clearly isn't seen as anywhere near ready or else he would have been involved in pre-season.

i know moreno isn't the quality required but it isn't a case where literally anyone would be better - enrique, dossena, konchesky anyone?

we've missed out on chilwell (our own fault and noone elses) . if a good enough upgrade isn't available then we should hold our nerve instead of panic buying which the club gets slated on here a lot for.

03 Aug 2016 14:07:13
All depends on his mentality IMO.
There's the old adage 'if you're good enough you're old enough'. I'm not sure that's true, you need a strong mature head to cope with being thrown in as a youngster.
Who knows about Joe, Klopp will be looking at him though you can be sure of it.

03 Aug 2016 14:20:10
I'd rather give Joe McGuire a chance than rely on Milner or Moreno.

03 Aug 2016 08:21:19
Good morning all

WE NEED A LEFT BACK JURGEN. PLEASE.

That is all.

Believable9 Unbelievable2

03 Aug 2016 08:53:26
Subtle. I like it. :)

03 Aug 2016 10:00:00
How about Konchesky ;)

03 Aug 2016 11:54:32
There's a question. Koncheski or Moreno?

03 Aug 2016 12:45:28
Moreno definately.
He gets a lot of stick I know, but I still think he can improve with age. He just needs to start putting his brain into gear a bit more. ๐Ÿค”.

03 Aug 2016 07:02:21
Hi Ed1,

Any update on Joe Gomez recovery? Would he be able do a decent job at Left back for Us?

Thanks in Advance.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Square Tomato is the guy to ask about with regards to Joe Gomez mate. As for left back, yes he can cover there in the short term, the odd game here and there, but he is not a left back and it would not make sense to rely on him there.}

03 Aug 2016 05:37:48
i think mignolet is a good shot stopper. its just a shame his other areas are poor. seems to have a magnifying glass over him whenever he gets in goals. he would get critisised for how he ties his shoe laces by some of the posters. (tho they seemed to be tied together for the 2nd roma goal) .

klavan looks strong. think he will be good for us. tho he doesn't have the stupid haircut required for lfc.

cant wait for the new season to roll up. tho taking it off foxtel australia is still giving me grief.

cheers eds.

Believable3 Unbelievable7

03 Aug 2016 08:23:50
I don't even think he's a good shot stopper as his positioning and awareness is very poor.

03 Aug 2016 14:37:03
he is a awful goalkeeper in every aspect, he treats the ball like a hand grenade with the pin pulled out, he brings out the worst in every defender who has to deal with his incompetence.

03 Aug 2016 04:04:09
It will be very interesting to see if opposition teams target the left wing this year as we have not strengthened in that area. I have a feeling we will leak a lot of goals down that side.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

03 Aug 2016 06:40:22

03 Aug 2016 08:24:26
And through the middle, again.

03 Aug 2016 08:59:23
FranklyMrShankly,
Any chance I can come on here one morning and not leave with a mild case of depression?
Anything positive going on that you can let us know about?

03 Aug 2016 09:12:01
To be honest he's not ft to even have that username. And I mean it.

You embody the antithesis of Shankly.

03 Aug 2016 11:15:29
Well said Tristan - Shanks you need to have a bit of faith buddy!

03 Aug 2016 15:06:10
So what you are saying is that you are satisfied that essentially all of the problems that we had last season which caused us some pretty rotten defeats ie a weak centre midfield (Probably one of the weakest of any of the teams in the top half), a left back who can't defend and costs matches and Mignolet (Another who has cost us matches) starting the season as our first choice again doesn't give you cause for concern? I am assuming you have forgotten our defeats to Watford, West Ham, Sevilla, Man United, Swansea, Palace, Newcastle etc? If not, watch them again and then watch the game against Roma, you'll see that nothing has really changed.
