Liverpool have bid £12.5 million for Bologna's Gaston Ramirez but looks like Bologna holding out for £14 million but shows that we have made good progress in attempts to sign the Uruguay playmaker. Aquilani's transfer to Fiorentina will help with the cash.

The club will receive nothing from the Aquilani tranfer if anything it has cost them to sell him!

Aqualanis transfer is a serparate issue to the deal with Ramirez. Hopefully Ramirez will be signed especially if their willing to accept £14.5 mill for him

Rodgers has said he has looked at 1 or 2 people abroad for loan deals looks like Macca was right again.
ed any idea who though
Lfclee

03 Aug 2012 23:17:26
twiter saying Allen prefers a move to Spurs. The other thing is Rodgers has said in the Mirror tonight that he has looked a signing a player from abroad on loan which backs up what Macca said during the week! Dying to know the name now.

IrishRed

Are they offering more money?

I HATE TWITTER. That is all.

I was refering to the Agent ITK who does get a fair few things right.

Hi guys, quick question. I just bought tickets to next weeks game vs Gomel. Will the tickets come in time or if not how do I go about getting in? Thanks in advance, roblfc86

Should be there on tuesday/wedneday You'll be fine

03 Aug 2012 23:10:20
I think Pato is a must, his pace can only be rivaled by Walcott and Bale, his shooting accuracy is better than both of theirs and his ball control/dribbling is exceptional.

He cost Milan 24m euros so would take a heavy offer to get him and you don't want to pay that money if the player doesn't like the environment or is still affected by old injuries.

£5m loan move to make it worth while for Milan? plus £17m next summer if we decide to buy him.

£23m; that would work out as 30m euros.

It would take a little more than 30million euro's to take him from AC Milan, plus the £150k+ a week contract he would want.

Why don't we ask them to pay half they'd do it to us

03 Aug 2012 23:09:00
Ed or Macca is agger leaving? {Ed002's Note - I think the option exists for him to leave. Other Eds disagree. Macca we don't know. As ever I am out on a limb.}

03 Aug 2012 23:00:59
Just wondering if anyone had heard anything about kaka going on loan, and if he is what are Liverpool's chances?

I believe that Real Madrid are looking to let him go, be it a loan or a permanent move. AC Milan look most likeliest to bring him back and it is Kaka's most preferable destination. The only stumbling block is the transfer fee as AC Milan don't want to pay Madrid's valuation. As for Liverpool's chances, it is highly unlikely. (Sound like an Ed now haha)

03 Aug 2012 22:57:30
Upto now our outs have been.

Darby.
Kuyt.
Rodriguez.
Aurelio.
Toni Silva.
Aqualani.

With the possibility of

Carroll.
Spearing.
Eccleston.
Adam.

I'm thinking this will roughly free up 450,000 in wages weekly.

This should give us the green light now to bring in a couple of players.

Joe Allen whoopdee doo what does it all mean basil?

Redlips

03 Aug 2012 21:30:49
have suspended bets on joe allen joining liverpool, looks like a deal is close/done. he will be a great signing.

That means nothing, at 1 point they stopped taking bets on sigurdsson, diame and kalou all signing for us. we missed out on all of them

03 Aug 2012 22:51:26
Does anyone know how much money we sold kuyt, maxi and Aqualini for?
I'm just interested to know....

Markolfc {Ed002's Note - You could read the posts. Less than £40M.}

Around 5m for all of them.

Around 1.5m of that we keep.

Ed 002 you can be quite arrogant sometimes but you make up for it with some bloody good comments

Well done! Michael or should I call you Mickey Mouse?! Ha ha! I'm sure a few people fell for it

They have mate hook, line, and sinker.

03 Aug 2012 22:39:04
Supposedly we are getting a star name in on loan,we need a winger and ibrahim afellay is available.it makes sense that he will be the player coming in

03 Aug 2012 22:37:57
Rafa is a legend. Some of you people have short memories and to be honest make me sick. He gave the club it's best moments in the modern era, and to show what kind of a man he is he donated 96k to the Hillsborough fund. Legend and I love him.

Good man,but lost the plot at the end...TRUTH

Don't you mean FACT!

Whos fault was that though...?

03 Aug 2012 22:33:47
So, with a clearing of The white smoke may be brief except twists, as we approach the end of the transfer window and the start of the season...

Assuming Carroll is leaving and we get in this 'major star' on loan or a straight replacement for Carroll.
And Allen, Dempsey and Ramirez come in.

The squad appears to be shaping up as;

Front 3 positions
Dempsey -Loan Star- Suarez *Bellamy
Downing Borini Ramirez Sterling

Midfield 3 positions
Lucas Allen Gerrard
Hendo Suso Shelvey

Defense
Enrique Dagger Skrtel Johnson
Robbo Coates Carra Sama Kelly

Keeper
Reina
Jones Gulacsi

Thats the main 25 man First team squad as I see it, including 3 Keepers. *26 if Bellamy Stays.

CB backup is Weak. Still a fan of the legend Carra but he is not made for this style of football. Amorebieta may an option if one of Dagger/Skrtel leaves. Vargas, imo, is unlikely but would be nice to push Enrique.

Midfield: I think Adam is gone so I've put Suso in. Nobody seems to like Spearing, but I thnk he may still play a role in the squad. Dempsey and Ramirez, I think, could both drop back to play the CAM Role that I think Gerrard will start in and Shelvey might be the future for.

Ins: Borini, Allen, Dempsey, Ramirez, -Loaner-

Outs: Adam, Cole, Carroll, Kuyt, Maxi, Aquilani

Fringe of squad: Pacheco, Flanno, Wisdom, Wilson, Spearing

Youth: Gulacsi, Morgan, Coady, Dunn, Teixeira, Ngoo, Pelosi, Lussey

Still a very big squad that could even see some more cutting than I've said above.

SpudRed

03 Aug 2012 22:30:16
I think....
Ins, borini, sturridge, walcott, Allen, dempsey.
Outs,
Adam, aqualani, spearing, Carroll, Cole, Bellamy (sadly).

Thus
Forwards, borini, Suarez, sturridge, walcott, dempsey.
Midfielders,
Downing, Gerrard, Allen, Lucas, Shelvey, sterling, Henderson.
Defenders, as is no leavers but pressure on Enrique from flanagan.
ALB.

Nice words from our manager to all the travelling fans on the LFC website. He is a gent who has a lot of class. Respect.

Red Machine {Ed049's Note - True}

03 Aug 2012 22:26:25
Is anyone getting sick of Rodgers constant talking? It's like all his words are perfectly scripted like where supposed to look back in 50 years and quote his great phrases. Its all blah blah blah. We all know Shanks quotes from years ago but that was all natural. Rodgers seems so fake. Loads of amazingly perfected words and then the latter last night to the travelling supporters. But that letter was more than likely written by the PR team. Less words and more actions please Mr Rodgers. Pre season has been an embarrassment and last night wasnt much better.

Actions speak louder than words

Get rid of Spearing, Carroll, Downing, Adam and Henderson and get some quality in

Thank you.

Mark YNWA

Mark, why put YNWA alongside such a weakminded post? Stick to your crayons clown boy

Why is he fake? And what is supposed to do, not say anything at all? He hasn't had a chance to 'Action' anything yet and he is getting blasted by a bunch of instant gratification wannabe FIFA footy manangers.

He's had 3 pre-season games and 1 week/1 Europa game with half of his first team.

SpudRed

Think his mum has probably taken his crayons off him.
The man has said very little, the papers have said a lot, but he hasn't.

03 Aug 2012 22:23:54
Sorry eds, Dempsey picture confirmed as fake. {Ed002's Note - Surely not.}

03 Aug 2012 22:23:12
Hi Eds and thanks for answering my previous question.

Seeing we are being linked with Gaston Ramirez again. I still think its nothing there but the rumour just wont go away. I know you are unsure how strong the interest from Liverpool is but would you consider it to be a possible transfer at all?
Simply a yes or no would be great :)

Now that Aquilani has gone, do you believe they will replace him? As he has not been involved for the last two seasons I cant see the need to.

Thanks for your time and effort. Much appreciated.

Norwegian Blob

{Ed002's Note - There is never going to be a replacement.}

03 Aug 2012 22:21:16
Picture on twitter, not sure if it's genuine but Dempsey us wearing a LFC training top. Done deal??

03 Aug 2012 22:13:52
Hi eds I know your getting annoyed about this question but with a simple answer have Liverpool got a serious interest in gaston ramirez? Thanks {Ed002's Note - I am pretty certain this has been addressed.}

03 Aug 2012 22:09:52
Could it be with Ramirez and Allen (allegedly approx 12.5m each) our next 2 most likely signings. According to various internet based sources (I know) but not twitter, that things have either cooled re Dempsey (I personaly hope so would prefer to keep Carroll) or another midfielder, I guess Spearing or Cole are likely to leave? {Ed002's Note - I would suggest being a gambing man.}

Dempsey would be a MUCH better bet for us than keeping Carroll - in Dempsey you have a proven premiership player who knows where the net is and can put himself about and in Carroll we have someone who may be a plan B or may become a star

Puzzled

03 Aug 2012 21:57:18
Does anyone have the impression that deals are probably done for Allen and Dempsey and maybe even others, and Rodgers is waiting to free up wage budget through moving players on before finalising the deals. Just deals like the Dempsey one in particular you would assume would be done by now.

Andy the Red

03 Aug 2012 21:49:48
IMO we need to get Dempsey in proven scorer in the premier league and a quality winger and also a right back! Make the Dempsey deal happen before spurs come along and pinch him from under our noses just like they did with sigurdsson!

How is Dempsey a right back?

A right back?

Red Ollie

03 Aug 2012 21:41:41
Basically we have released Aquilani rather than accept the £3.5M(e) we were offered by AC Milan. I know we have lost money but I for one am happy the board have stuck two fingers up at Milan for the sneaky and back handed way they went about trying to lower Aquilani's price.

Hey Fellow Reds

Can I maybe appeal for a bit of respect for other posters on here. Everyone is entitled to thier opinion but the way some are presenting them is bordering on abusive. I was told about this site by a long time poster who said it would be a nice place to chat with some real fans but in my few posts so far I have been called 'a manc', 'stupid' and 'Moronic' simply for giving an opinion I intended to start intelligent lively debate.
Can people please leave out the childish name calling and anger in their responses and just leave the interesting and intelligent arguments I so enjoy having on this site. You may not agree with people but we all support the same team here (one I have followed since I was 3 with a huge passion) so should be friendly and pleasent to one another.

Apart from that the site is amazing and I have enjoyed many nice conversations with other great fans and must praise the eds for some really appreciated hard work. I and my friends really enjoy the site and your efforts.

Red-David-26

Good post buddy. All on the same side here, no need to call anyone 'a manc'. I can't think of much worse to be called ;)

03 Aug 2012 21:12:37
I'm not ITK. I don't have any inside source. But I have a strange feeling, a funny feeling that the major star on loan is actually Carlos Tevez. Of course, I could be wrong. But it's just what I think. Ed002, can you confirm exactly how far off my speculation is?

THE SUMON VAI {Ed002's Note - I don't know who the loan option is. I have spoken to a few folks who tell me they are not hip to who it is. Sorry.}

03 Aug 2012 21:11:49
All I see are so called fans slating the Owners, the manager and the club. Where would you rather us be? In a complete meltdown like Rangers? The owners came in, cleared our debts, and saved us from Administration. They was poorly advised by those that they hired i.e., Commolli and KK, the supposed football men when it came to transfers, and rightly, those responsible have paid with their jobs. Why are people so worried about how much we got rid of Aquilani for, he was bought by the previous regime so that cannot be laid at the door of the owners. After how we got ripped off, I think the owners are doing the right thing, trying to get out the high earners that contribute nothing, and making sure we get value for money. BR has started to instil a good system into the team, but that is going to take time to implement and for the players to be comfortable with. Last season was not good league wise, but we still got a trophy, was runners up in another, and gave some of the so called big boys some bloody noses on the way. To get us where we want to be is going to take at least 2 years, so all those that want instant success go support Citeh or Chelski, they have the funds for you. When the owners of those clubs leave though, both will end up doing a Rangers where as we will be running in an almost self sufficient way and will not suffer that type of trouble, unless we start buying all the players you lot want.

Basically, what I am saying, is support the manager, give him the chance to get us playing how he wants, give the owners the respect they deserve for saving us from bankruptcy, and show the team that they will never walk alone.

Red4Ever

Good post! BR needs our support not abuse right now and FSG have a good strategy for the club. FFP comes into play soon and we don't want to end up unable to support ourselves. Huge signings are very exciting but I would take financial stability any day.

Red-David-26

Mate if you say we should support chelsea or man city then anfield will be empty. When roy was our manager. Fans and not younger ones but older fans were writing every where eg walls to sack him now will see how Brendan is going to be treated when things doesn't go his way and if you have gone to andfield you will know more then 70% of fans are older if they can behave like this what will hapen to young ones. In reality fans are tired of mediocrity

03 Aug 2012 21:04:38
Now that Juventus have cooled their interest in Van Perise will they step up for Suarez?

They can p*ss off and get back to fixing matches...

03 Aug 2012 21:04:19
I am glad that money grabbing aquilani has gone ( if he has ). He has made a fool of our club. Why sign for an English club if you don't want to play in England. The bloke should be made to pay his transfer fee back to us the scum bag. All you fans that said he is a good player and he should be given a chance should wake up and realise he has taken us for a ride. Rant over.

No doubt he has had his troubes in england and has effectively taken th biscuit. But there is no denying he is a quality player, his pasing is superb and he always seems to have more time on the ball than every one else, which is a sure sign of natural talent. Having said that i am glad we can put this saga to bed and move on.

03 Aug 2012 21:02:11
My Mrs is not into football much but occasionally is in the company of carraghers Mrs. She had mentioned a possible new defender joining who is Italian. No idea but thought would share. Don't shoot the messenger. Tegs.

03 Aug 2012 21:02:05
Where can I bet on Allen joining us........ Obviously happening !

How about a bookies

03 Aug 2012 21:01:14
In an ideal midfield of three central players, you need a defensive minded player who can tackle well (lucas), you need a very good passer and engine who can contribute to both assisting the attack and tracking back when needed (Gerrard), and finally you need a player with the attack minded flair to beat players with skill and create chances that way. Now for me, Allen does not fit that description atall, and the we need either Honda or Ramirez both would cost around 15m - 17m and would liven up our midfield.

03 Aug 2012 20:58:06
Dark days are looming...players will be sold for profit, high earners will be replaced by younger cheaper alternatives..in this transitional period success on the pitch will be compromised...Personally I cant see us challenging for the title for at least another 2 seasons were mid table and mediocre with owners that are not prepared to bankroll us, this is not a criticism of FSG but a personal opinion...we will play pretty football but lack the quality players to make that push for the title unless we get really lucky in the transfer market I.E Newcastle FC...I know I'm gonna get slaughtered for not being partisan but I say it how I see it...MIAMI_RED

You say it how you see it. What the hell exactly have we seen so far? Squad players being shipped out, whilst the eds have told you efforts are being made to bring in reinforcements. So how about we actually wait until the window is shut and actually have the basis to form an opinion, before declaring an apocolypse eh?

03 Aug 2012 20:56:19
I have just read that we have sold Alberto Aquilani to Fiorentina and it made me think about the economic madness that has surrounded our club in recent years. I imagine that Aquilani was sold for a very low fee which means that we can suppose that the club made a loss of more than 15 million pounds plus wages on the player. It also looks like we are going to take a massive loss on Andy Carroll - maybe 15 million pounds as well. Added to the huge cost of Joe Cole (high wages), Poulsen and some of the other terrible deals that were done in recent years, one is left wondering who was responsible to keep things under control? Obviously I am aware that owners, managers, managing directors and directors of football have come and gone but it seems that there has been nobody in the background to look after the club. Every purchase is going to have its risks but I feel that we have performed far worse that any other club in the Premier League regarding our overall transfer activities. In what other business can such huge amounts be thrown around and then just written off? Admittedly the purchase and sale of Fernando Torres was a huge success but that was one positive in a long string of negatives. I know that opinion is cheap and that its easy to spend other peoples' money but our inability to get any sort of value for money has left us in the un-competative position we have been in. This may sound like a rant without much point but actually what I want to say is that I feel the club is now in safe hands and that the new owners have had to deal with a lot of historical issues. Notwithstanding the Andy Carroll purchase which looks like it will prove to be a big mistake I still feel that we will make steady progress with the new owners. All of us fans need to understand that we can't do things like Chelsea, Manchester City or that other Manchester lot. What we can do is be Liverpool and do things with passion, belief, thought and tremendous support from the best fans in the world. Good luck Brendan and good luck to the whole club for the coming season.

03 Aug 2012 20:56:17
The latest inference from one news source is that Liverpool will be signing the want-away Arsenal striker, Robin Van Persie....

03 Aug 2012 20:54:26
AC is staying, as this week he just purchased his house in merseyside - FACT-, seems strange thing to so if he was leaving !

03 Aug 2012 20:48:44
Do spearing Cole and Shelvey have any real future at the club anyone have any idea?

I think Shelvey does and should have a future. Maybe a loan season would be good for the lad if a suitable prem team wants to take him... Spearing probably not as seems just not good enough, average championship level at best... Cole is a tricky one but last night may have shown Rogers his fragility and might want his big wages off our bill if he thinks he will spend a lot of time injured. Personally I think he will be given a season or till Jan and then dumped if underpreforming.
Hope that helped.
Red-David-26

Shelvey's just signed a 4 year deal so clearly he has a future at the club.

Rodgers seems to rate Joe Cole, and knows him from Chelsea. I personally don't think Cole is fit enough or dynamic enough to play a high tempo pressing game that Rodgers has alluded to.
Bit part player at most, which on his wages simply isn't value for money - I'd imagine he's available if anyone's willing to take him.

Not sure about Spearing.

Joe

Shelvey does I don't care about cole or spearing waste of money IMO

03 Aug 2012 20:48:25
With Liverpool's season now up and running attention has turned back to transfer rumours and speculation over which players could be moving on. Such as Caroll and Agger. Also champions Manchester City had two bids rejected for the 27-year-old, believe there is nothing to read into his non-attendance in Belarus.

03 Aug 2012 20:46:04
so if Allen dempsey and say ramirez join sell cole and if we keep carroll, agger and skrtel thats a squad that could compete for fourth even if we dont achieve it good times may finally be on our way

03 Aug 2012 20:33:10
If you believe all the BS floating around about us trying to get Gaston Ramirez. Then according to reports, we have signed him 6 times and made 7-10 bids for him, after we signed him?

Lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

There has never been reports indicating that we put it a bid. Before reports were 'interested in Ramirez' or 'tabeling a bid of£16 mill'. Never 'Liverpool have made a bid of X amount for gaston ramirez'. {Ed002's Note - The Express announced he signed three weeks or more ago.}

03 Aug 2012 20:44:19
Players gone... Kuyt, Maxi.
Likely to leave... Agger, Suarez, Reina, Carroll.
Players who should leave... Adam, Henderson, Downing, Spearing, Shelvey.

I blame our lack of money and quality signings on Kenny. Still cant believe he wasted over 100m on Adam, Coates, Carroll, Downing and Henderson.

We have no money. People need to realise we will not sign Ramirez, Cavani, Higuan etc.

11m for Borini is a waste of money and how on earth does Brendan think he's ''exciting'' ?

Next season is gonna be so hard, We could finish behind City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle and Everton again if FSG dont get their check book out and get us some quality players. But instead we are been linked with Allen and Dempsey. Disaster

Brendan could be sacked before October if pre-season and Gomel is anything to go by. Tiki-Taka? Wake up Brendan. We are not Barcelona.

Luke YNWA

Use the force Luke, your powers are weak. Such a pathetic post, from now on you shall be known as Puke. You should be sacked, although its clear you're unemployable. Or 10. Ulsterpool

And how is abusing him on here going to help BR? This is a fan site mate. As much as I respect your opinion I think criticising the team so much on one match and pre-season is unfounded. Wait a bit and let's see who else is brought in. Our big money signings in the past worked so well didn't they? Another Aqua or Carroll is exactly what we need?? Cheap and proven may not be in your 'fantasy football' world but this is real life and chequebooks can only take you so far!

To be fair he has a point however much we sugar coat Kenny's second reign at the helm. He wasted money on bit part players that didnt improve the team. Ok theyre young but how i see it we have no cutting edge to the team, Suarez being the exception. The players that were bought for the midfield no doubt have potential but weve fallen from grace so quickly that i believe the money Kenny spent could have been used to stabilise us as a borderline top four team. I am an Optimist but cant help but see the negatives from the last couple of seasons! Shoot me but its just an opinion!

03 Aug 2012 20:39:56
I'm furious tonight. It looks like we are indeed selling our assets. Agger is going - Caroll is being squeezed out - Saurez next. I'm pissed off Rodgers

we paid him good wages, took care when he said he was injured, sent him to italy for 2 years and paid a part of his wages and now we pay him 3.4m even when he isnt employed at liverpool.
its people like aquilani that are ruining football. i normally have high respect for our ex-players but not this for lazy money grabber

Was reading it'snotrocketscience's post before about being gay and LFC supporting gay pride.
Made me wonder why so little footballers have come out.
There was talk last year about a big group of them ready to do it but it never happened.
How sad footballers can't come out in 2012.

Well done LFC for flying the rainbow flag.
I have many gay friends and a lot of them love football but never go to games for fear of abuse.
I hope this changes.

03 Aug 2012 20:25:13
Is it possible the loan deal will be David villa

03 Aug 2012 20:18:13
Hi edds ,great site. Not really a rumour but Per Steffensen has rubbished rumours that Agger has handed in a transfer request and has claimed he is very happy at liverpool. Also Brendan Rodgers has said that it was always the plan for Agger to stay behind due to his fitness not being brilliant at the moment.

03 Aug 2012 20:12:45
Am I alone in wanting Pacheco here next season?
I think he adds something different, and has a bit of flair we lack...
not really up to date with his attitude problems or whatever the reason he isn't favoured for, but he is young and can clearly play football, would love him to stay.

Dear Supporter,

I want to say a sincere thank-you for making the effort to come to Gomel last night to support us in our first competitive match of the season.

The players and I are fully aware of the trials and tribulations surrounding travel for games; in particular, the costs, the necessity for visas and the transportation issues involved with this trip, so we wanted to let you know that your efforts are greatly appreciated.

It was a privilege to acknowledge your support on the evening at the ground, as we did following the full-time whistle, but I wanted to reiterate our thanks with this brief message.

It was a special night for me personally and it was great to see you in the stadium and in great voice; you made me proud and you made the players proud. You are an integral part of this team.

Both last night in Belarus and on the club's tour to North America, I am continually humbled by the passion and commitment you show in supporting the team. We will never take you for granted.

I look forward to seeing and hearing you across the continent and at home as we progress through this competition.

Thank you again.

You'll Never Walk Alone

Brendan

One Word Class!

RR!

That was written by the PR team, Not rodgers

Kenny's post match comments would have been "we were poor tonight and need to improve and improve quickly"

"That was written by the PR team, Not rodgers"

Signing off as 'Brendan' is classic PR. Avoids legal implications. The whole thing reeks of PR. Sickeningly pandering. Amazing how gullible people are.

Wonder what the Swansea fans think of this 'YNWA' business.

Pure class? Or are they making 'fingers down throats puking jestures?'.

He's only been here a few weeks. I don't think he'd be so tactless to write this on his own volition - thats for sure.

Maybe 'Brendan' will keep us updated thoughout the season.

BJH YNWA

ps - Better bring my boots now I'm 'part of the team'. lol. I have a feeling they'd call the cops on me though...

Very US PR. They lap this stuff up. (as do many here apparently)

If we had an American PR officer - or as the yanks call the role - a 'communications director' - that would make some sense I guess........

Or perhaps the 'communications director' knew nothing about this 'letter from Brendan' - and it slipped under his radar.

I doubt that.

Judging the wonderful paragraph spacing. These guys are good.

How long till we have LFC Cheerleaders?

(or more precisely 'official' LFC Cheerleaders).

Remember I said that.

Ed2 you have alwayd doubted how strong an interest Liverpool have had in Gaston Ramirez. Is this still the same mate?

Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - No, I have always been 100% behind the Gaston Ramirez situation - nothing has changed.}

I think it's obvious the interest isn't as strong as people think. All of these rumours of bids and talks are coming from Italy and his agent. It's all a ploy to start a bidding war and get juve, napoli and co to bid.

Amz

Well yeah, reports from Italy, England and uruaguy have linked Ramirez to Liverpool. 2 journalists from uruaguy and 1 from Italy said that Ramirez is going to be a Liverpool player. Is agent has always said Ramirez is most likely going to an EPL club and recently was is London supposedly in contact with one of them. Just to take the piss some more Coates takes a picture of Suarez and Ramirez? Why of all people Ramirez... If it doesn't happen then I will never get my hopes up again.

I thought I would just let people know what type of man Brendan is. Earlier this year, a friend of mine was battling cancer. She was a massive Liverpool fan and a Swansea season ticket holder. We wrote to both Liverpool and Swansea informing them of her situation and Brendan turned up at her house on bank holiday Monday and spent 3 hours with her! She has sadly passed, but she was thrilled by his visit and said that he was absolutely fantastic. I for one am delighted that we have a man who is pure class at the helm of our club. He will manage our club with pride, care and passion. He will need time to mould us into his vision, but we have the right man to lead our family
Nigel

Sorry to hear that mate and I agree with you B Rodgers is a class act!

Can anyone recommend a good LFC book. Only read autobiographies of Dalglish,Fowler , Carragher and Pepe . Just got an epic swindle. Redevon {Ed001's Note - Brian Reade's 43 years with the same bird is a decent read.}

Cheers ed. Redevon {Ed002's Note - You may want to ask Ed001 for his experiences with "the same bird" - and he lost her to Ed003 and her mother to Ed007.}

A Season On The Brink. Its by Gullem Balague about Rafas first season. I enjoyed it.

If it's old school I remember Graham Souness's was pretty good and way back Kevin Keegan's was interesting if more NFC biased

Not Liverpool based, but Jeff Stellings 'Jellyman's thrown a wobbly' is brilliant.

Walk Alone. the Craig johnston story.is a great read mate.If you can still get a copy.I also enjoyed Stand up Pinocchio.

I read those you've mentioned - some good reads there. Carra's was probably my favourite one.

I agree that A Season On The Brink was good too - certainly also worth a read.

Not trying to get slaughtered here, but Alex Ferguson - Managing My Life is a great read - probably the best football autobiography I've ever read. Roy Keane's autobiography 'Keane' is also excellent.

If you can't justify reading these - just chalk it down to trying to 'know your enemy' and all that.... lol. (and buy them in charity shops for 50p if you can - look around, you'll find them)

Tony Adams 'Addicted' is very good too - as is Paul Mc Grath's 'Back from the Brink'. Both are pretty dramatic and should not be missed.

For LFC - If you missed it - 'Rush' is a great read. A great view of a golden age, with the legend that is Rushie. I hear Ronnie Whelan's is good too but haven't read it yet.

Thanks for the Craig Johnston suggestion btw. He's a character from what I know of him, so I must give that a try.

For something else - 'Ajax, the Dutch, the War' is amazing (though reading it on holidays in Amsterdam enhanced it for me) - and 'White Storm' is an entertaining and very interesting history of Real Madrid, written by an Englishman trying to understand the culture. A fine read too.

Loads of others if you look around.

But I'll tell you this - I read Michael Owens' book once (before he went to Utd - so I wasn't blinded by hate) and it was the worst thing I have ever read - ever... by anyone.

Everything written today on this site was vastly superior.

Not much chance of you reading that anyway I guess. lol. But better safe than sorry. I'm still scarred.

BJH YNWA

Thanks for suggestions of books. Presuming pinocchio (sp?) is Phil Thompson? If so got to get it as his a legend. Admittedly Robbie 'god' Fowler might not agree. Also Souness book interests me, loved him a player, terrible manager though. Redevon

What do the eds think bout sessegnon? seems like he could fit in with our new ethos and possibly wouldn cost as much as other targets?

WicklowRed {Ed001's Note - not for me, I don't see where he would fit in, unless you intend to get rid of all our young attacking talent, such as Suso and Shelvey. He is an attacking midfielder, not a forward.}

I'd be very content with this.

Reina
Johnson
Skrtel
Agger

Nuri Sahin (loan) although we'll probably get Allen
Gerrard
Lucas

Ramirez £12.7 million
Suarez
Afelley £whatever they want under 10

Borini, Kelly, Robinson, Flanagan, Downing, Henderson as back up, sell EVERYONE else!

That team won't get even top five. Not good enough.

Caragher and coates? Shelvey and perhaps raheem?

That's 9 outfield players.
Also, you're happy to get rid of Shelvey, Suso and Sterling?

Those 3 excite me more than a lot of the others to be honest.

Joe

Left back - Enrique?
Boysie-red

3-3-3 formation dont work im afraid

Now we have began to offload players on big wages to other clubs.

Kuyt.
Aurellio.
Aqualani.
Rodriguez.

Potentially.
Adam.
Carroll.
Spearing.
Cole.
Eccleston.

Will this now free up cash for the likes of

Munian.
Ramirez.
Dzagoev (contract expires in winter).
Kaka (loan).

Jonesred

Pains me to say it but 2 more big earners who need to go are Gerrard and Carragher, i await all the abuse but its true and you know it!

Rafa's biggest mistake was thinking buying Barry and selling Alonso was a great idea, then listening to the wrong people telling him to buy Aquilani instead of going with his instinct and signing Martinez.
AK47

To be fair, Barry's been in the City team for a couple of seasons now. If we'd got him when we lost Alonso we wouldn't have felt that loss nearly as hard

Red Ollie

20m for Aquilani shows he lost the plot..

Hicks and Gillette assisted him to losing the plot. I'm sure he made certain sales to get money in but it was a lose lose situation that hicks and Gillette were not willing to help rafa out with. People need to realise rafa had big plans for Liverpool but it was not backed by the owners who only wanted profit, not success. As simple as that

03 Aug 2012 19:14:57
People its more likely going to be Skrtel who leaves, Agger doesn't want to go he is very happy at Liverpool.

Just A Prediction....

Bids of £18m+ will be accepted for Skrtel. Amorebieta £8m, Kjaer £8m, Lovren £8m are targets to replace him.

Included with the (18m) Skrtel deal to city we will get Adebayor coming in on loan for £2m + we will pay just (90k pw) of his 8m (165k pw) wages.

as will bids of £18m+ for Carroll be accepted.

Allen to come in £12.5m and so will Dempsey straight swap with Adam

Another loan the will be made. This time the one that Macca was saying will be made. Kaka will come in, Real Madrid will pay most of his wages but we will pay them £5m for him to come on loan with option to buy for £15m next summer (no set conditions just whether or not he wants the move).

Spearing is also available for £4.5m but bids of £2.5m will be most likely, with Fernandes of Besiktas subject to a forthcoming £7m bid.

roundup

Out) Skrtel to city for £16m plus Adebayor on loan
= +£16m
in) Take away £8m for Skrtel's replacement
= +£8m
in) Allen in for £12.5m + Shelvey on loan
= - £4.5m
in) Dempsey in for Adam
= - £4.5m
Out) Carroll to Newcastle for £18m
= +£13.5m
in) Manuel Fernandes in for £7m
= +£6.5m
in) Kaka in on loan for £5m
= +£1.5m
Out) Spearing out for £2.5m
= +£4m
in) Juan Vargas in for £4m
= even

How! how can Liverpool not be pulling out all the stops to sign a player like Nuri sahin
1..he's available
2..ain't gonna cost the earth to sign
3..ligth years ahead of Adam Henderson

I hear a lot about champs league etc... Liverpool cant sign so and so it has ever stop spurs from signing top talent so why does it stop Liverpool

He wants Champions League football

Who the hell is Adam Johnson?
Another example of an personic rival fan with nothing to do during the school holidays!

Derek

Because Liverpool only buy mediocre players these days. Haven't had a world class player for years, except Gerrard.

BECAUSE spurs are in london

Because we want Allen, on permanent basis and not on loan maybe?

Kaizer

Derek, Adam Johnson plays for man city. Think you meant Adam Henderson as stated in the original post?

Some thoughts on people whinging about Spurs, getting into the top 4 and Rodgers' transfer targets...

(turned out to be quite a long post - sorry.)

There's quite a bit of sniping at Spurs for 'apparently' chasing all our transfer targets. Why all the concern?

I'm not really concerned with Spurs tbh - but if pushed on the issue - I'm of the opinion they can sign who they want this summer (within reason) - but they'll be a lesser side without Modric and King.

I've lost count of the many times I've been left cursing King after games against them where we've not won. He was real quality - and the decline of Spurs in the 2nd half of last season had a lot to with his diminishing influence. I expect it to continue.

Modric is just a class apart, without him they seem to lack any brains at all - his simplicity makes all those around him look much better than they are imo. He'd be perfect for Real (alongside Alonso).

Sigurdsson is a good signing, but it is a rare player that can control games like Modric can. They will miss these two lads very badly indeed.

I'm fairly confident we'll at least cut the points gap on Spurs this season - at best I reckon we can sneak ahead of them, though it'll be tough.

I guess I posted because I'm trying to tell these 'doom-mongerers' to stop panicking. My Spurs supporting friends aren't as confident as you lot that they're 'on the up' - I agree with them.

Realistically however - I must admit that we're something of an unknown quantity this season. If it all clicks, and the players respond well to Rodgers, I think we have the quality to compete for the top 4 - I really do.

I assume, like most - that Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea will be the top 3.

So that leaves 4th place is up for grabs. Arsenal? Spurs? Newcastle? - or maybe us? I don't think we're far behind these teams at all in terms of quality.

Arsenal & Spurs are losing key players - whilst whether Newcastle were a 'flash in the pan' remains to be seen. Who knows, we just might manage it.
It's a funny old game.... perhaps some of our rivals will have disastrous seasons'.

Certainly little to panic about.

Contrary to what others may post here, I think Rogers has been wise thus far - taking his time to see where we actually need players.

We have an excellent young squad that with a few shrewd additions - we can be a force to be reckoned with.

With young players like Sterling, Suso, Coates, Kelly, Wilson, Robinson, Flanagan etc - (everyone has their own favourite) - the future looks bright. I don't expect the kids to all burst onto the scene next season, but over the next 1-3 seasons, some of these lads can emerge as real stars.

As much as people want big names - why spend money on players that will stunt the development of these kids?

Rogers has been clever in targetting areas of the squad where we do not have real 'depth' to invest in - Areas of the team where we do not have a dearth of talented youngsters who have shown the potential to be a future first-team player.

The positions we do have emerging talent in seem to have been left alone.

We have a wealth of young right-backs and centre-backs for example.

Goalkeeper is sorted - the only minor tweak being that Gulacsi may get opportunities - possibly whilst trying to sell older players on higher wages. Such as Doni.

Perhaps a backup left-back is needed, but again, is not a priority.

Signing Joe Allen would leave us with lots of CM options for our midfield 3 - his main benefit being that he can play the DM role.

This frees Gerrard to play either of the more advanced roles, compensating for what Sigurdsson would have provided - whilst still leaving room for Shelvey to be a contender.

What would have been likely first choice had Sigurdsson signed:

Lucas, Gerrard, Sigurdsson

Should now be :

Lucas, Allen, Gerrard

As we can see - If Lucas is injured, Allen can drop back deeper, leaving any 2 from Hendo, Adam, Shelvey & Stevie (Suso eventually too) to occupy the other midfield slots.

So no need for a spending spree there either..

If Shelvey does leave on loan - I'd imagine it would be with an eye on him returning to rival Stevie - or perhaps replace Adam, depending on how he performs. He just signed a new deal, he will be a star.

As I say, the focus is on the areas where we genuinely lack options.

As well as the aforementioned cover for Lucas, Borini replacing Kuyt is a shrewd move - he, like the other mentioned, is a young star in the making - earmarked as a first team regular in an area of the team where we need numbers. Whilst not a massive fee - it's still a significant outlay, but he has lots of potential.

Atm, the front 3 options are Downing, Suarez, Borini, (Carroll & Bellamy too - for now) and the likes of Sterling and Morgan are highly rated youngsters.

Whilst Morgan and Sterling are promising young options for the front 3 - It's clear we need more options up top - particularly if Carroll and Bellamy were to leave.

Think about it - If they did leave, that would leave 5 players for those 3 slots - two of which are largely untested kids.

Clearly, the addition of attackers is needed in this scenario.

It is this context where it's interesting that Rogers is targeting Dempsey - whilst some people are critical of targeting Dempsey (largely due to his age - surely not his ability) - perhaps that is exactly what Rodgers wants - an older head who can deliver - and is versatile - with an eye on the younger lads being ready to take over as first-team players in 1-3 seasons.

Maybe Pacheco or Ngoo could emerge - again, you may have your own favourite, but signing Dempsey hardly spells the end for an 18 year old with hopes of breaking through to the 1st team. He could be a great example to the kids and help them a lot. I love his commitment on the pitch, and he's an intelligent and technical footballer too - make no mistake.

Whether Joe Cole can do a job there remains to be seen - perhaps as an attacking central midfield option he could do a job?

Anyhoo.... Targeting an attacker is a priority - as is DM cover. I'm happy to see that Rodgers is seemingly planning his signings with an eye of the future and what we actually need.

The future looks bright.

As for future transfers - I'd predict our other targets will be:

another option for the front 3 - (in addition to Dempsey - likely a more pacey, creative type) and perhaps a left-back to join Enrique and Robinson.

We should then be ready to rock.

BJH YNWA

Too long. Can I have an edited version {Ed049's Note - No, LOL}

Great post mate, it's nice to see someone that's really thinking about it and knows what there talking about. I totally agree and trust rogers to do the correct things. Thank you for showing everyone the light.
Olipool

To long to read. Stop writing BS and just get to the point

Sorry - I don't mean to ramble on. I wish I could make points quicker too. (I did warn you though!)

Sometimes people explain how I feel about the team in 4 lines and I think 'how the hell did they do that'.

But hey - I like reading longer posts too - so some hopefully don't mind mine too much.

Even if I disagree with a long post I'll sometimes just throw them an agree for time and effort. lol.

Thanks for the kind words too Olipool. I can't wait to watch us when the league starts. It'll be interesting - thats for sure.

In danger of writing too much again - this was meant to be one line....

Have a good weekend folks.

have been talking to two journalist friends who ahve close connections to the club. there are big problems afoot. they are looking to sell agger for profit. carroll is as good as gone. suarez also likely to leave for right money.

the problem is where will rodgers find suitable replacements. if he can attract quality names to rplace those who depart then there will be little time left to get them. if the three do leave then there will be a mad rush to get replacements and again we will see over inflated prices.

when are liverpool going to sort out their transfer dealings. the last two years or so is frankly embarrassing as liverpool continue to pay above odds and bullied out of better deals by other clubs.

Right ok, so there is no one leaking any info from the club because we are doing it the liverpool way and you believe 2 jurnos that cant get a story, dude jurnos are Parasite's and will do anything they can for a story including making carp up

Sign off your posts Spud

If this is the case i want FSG out! How can they expect LFC to get back to the top if they sell our best player's? Agger was the best centre back in the league last season! He's Red through and through and if he's forced out it is very very wrong!

Your journalist friends go on liverpool-rumours by any chance?

Dont believe for a second

I also know a few journalists who say what you have heard is nonsense - I don't really, but it's easy to write, difficult to believe and prove.

just so you know the fee we have recieved is 7.7 million pound for alberto aquilaini

also glad we have joe allen too control that midfield

Ed002 gave a detailed breakdown of the transfer and we have basically ended up with nothing - but at least he's no longer on the wage bill. RED LENIN {Ed002's Note - Liverpool can step back and look forward. It is done.}

I dont care about the money he has gone, he was sh*t and didnt want to be here...

Ed's if Agger goes to Madrid do you reckon we could get Alonso back in some sort of swap deal.
To be honest I would like Alonso back but would rather keep Agger, and he has said he is happy to stay at liverpool.

{Ed022's Note - Hi all, there has been a brand new Player Profile posted on Victor Wanyama of Celtic. Liverpool currently hold an interest in the midfielder, and could be a great, cheap buy for any club. As it stands, Arsenal have just bid for the player, so Liverpool would need to act quickly thats for sure. - www.player-profiles.co.uk - cheers all.}

to be blatantly honest, i think henderson is a terrible player and will never become a great player never mind good. the lad cant tackle and never closes players down. the lad is more interested in fixing his socks and hair. he is the new leonardsen if u ask me. runs around like a headless chicken and contributes nothin. the lad is in my eyes terrible.

cheggerbalofski {Ed019's Note - Of course he can, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aE9T46YamvQ}

Give him a chance he will get there & he has the ability.
how many wanted lucas out a couple of seasons ago look how he turned out.

At a minimum, and by your own admission, he contributes neat socks and hair.

John CT

Ed19 alright then i'll give you that, he can pass a ball

cheggerbalofski

You got a glimps of how good he will become when we played Blackburn last season, he ran the show in the 2nd half playing at right back for a large portion of the time due to the sending offs.

Phooey...

Looking at the comments on that vid made me really wonder if people actively use their brains...."Lucas is crap and always will be" who needs trolls with fans like that :(

Henderson is a very strong player, the problem is I think people expect him to be as good as Lucas on the defensive aspect of the game. Also Hendo played a lot on the wings last season which doesn't suit him imo and also moving to LFC is a big jump so last season had a fair bit of a settling in period.

Ska-oop

Well done ed 19. Great stuff.
kopfiend 1978 ynwa

You are a terrible fan and you will never become a great one..

Agree he contributes little to attack or defence, he simply passes from side to side. For some people to say he could be our xavi is an insult to the 1st/2nd best central midfielder in the world. And yes lucas did take time to become great player in the league, but thats because he came from the Brazilian league, Henderson played in this league for two years (shouldn't that mean he doesnt need to adapt), however he looks like hes come from the championship when I watch him. IMO he's worth about 6m not 16m.

Mate, get a grip. The kid is what? 22? He'll be class in 2 years. Totally agree with the guy about Lucas, bet u thought he was s*** too, look how good he is now. U must be a part time fan. Tossa

Coily

You've certainly highlighted your football knowledge - or should I say lack of it, the boy is quality.

Is it cold in Newcastle by the way?

John B

Henderson is a good player.

Kaizer

Worst video reply ever. hes a nice kid, works hard, trains hard, good professional, but will never be good enough for liverpools 1st team. anyone could play the majorty of them balls, id love a montage of all his bad pieces of play, take about 1 hour to watch. {Ed019's Note - God help us all}

Here's a good question ed,
We already have Lucas,Gerard who play regularly, Adam, hendo, shelvy, spearo who play fairly often.
Why are we Looking to buy Allen Ramirez and Dempsey. Ino these 3 players are better but surely we should be offloading some of our current CM's.whats your take on this, if we do sell who's most likely and who do u think our starting midfield line up will be, personally I think Dempsey, Allen,Gerard, Ramirez,Lucas are all good enough to start:S please help!
Great site btw! Great work
Cheers {Ed019's Note - I think the midfielders are needed for squad depth as we are in the europa league, and I think the midfield will consist of Allen, Gerrard, Lucas with forwards being Dempsey, Borini & Suarez}

Cheers ahaqqe

Also remember that Gerrard seems to be picking up a few injuries lately/last few years so Shelvey and Hendo will play a fair bit I would guess.

Ska-oop

Yes Ed019, spot on. I don't think this Loan Star will materialise. I think we need a new Centre back and a new left back on top of Allen and Dempsey.

BthekingB

The only CM in those 3 is Allen, we all know what happened when we lost Lucas last season, we ended up depending on Spearing, now tell me, if u complain last season due to Spearing, isnt it the right move to get Allen?

This move is very logical, as Lucas and Allen are almost similar players, but they can still play together, (as i believe they have offensive abilities just as they have defensive abilities). times are changing, a defensive minded midfielder are becoming less and less. we need versatile midfielders like this. look at yaya toure, put him anywhere in the midfield and he will perform. on the right, CAM, CM, CDM. main thing i see in Allen is to replace Spearing.

Dempsey and Ramirez would probably play a more forward role. IF it is true we are interested in Ramirez that is.

Kaizer

Hi is BR going to sign anyone other than swansea players? {Ed019's Note - Well obviously}

He's already bought Borini from Roma. So yes.

Kev.

Was at swansea wasn't he

Borini is an ex swan!
Jason

Yea but hes worked with borini on different ocassions, the posters reffering to players other than the ones hes managed.

He played 9 games on loan, so what ?

But signed from roma

That wasn't the question though. We bought him from Roma.

He was still a Chelsea player!

Borini also have swansea connection

He was on loan so therefore players Swansea player

Aqua walk alone and keep your head down you money grabbing c**t

Why are ppl disagreeing with this? What has he done for us? With his fee and wages we've wasted 20+ million. I agree with this, we don't need people like him any where near the club! Good riddance!

Spot on lad
Tommy

Difficult one this; i mean his agent done well getting him the money in the 1st place however if i wanted to leave my job because i wanted to be nearer home then i'd not expect the same wages i was being paid - seems like from the players point of view he done well.

i'd be v disappointed if he spouted crap about YNWA etc.. and how he loved the fans and the club like some of our recent departures.

Hoola

NO player who has ever played for our club, weather they have done well or not, weather they have done the club or fans wrong, will EVER walk alone you prat

At least he will never wear the red shirt again, never fits lesser men, good riddance you parasite

A tad unfair. Aqua was a victim of Rafas arrogance over Alonso being at the birth of his child. Aqua was never going to fill Alonsos boots, and its not his fault that we threw a bucket load of money at Roma for him. Yes, he was overpaid and underperformed, but who did the the overpaying?
That said, TF hes gone. Lets move on.

Hi eds just a quick question now that suarez & coates are out of the olympics when would they join up with the team & would they both be available for the start of the new season?

I would be happy for allen dempsey & hopefully ramirez to come in but do you think another striker will be bought if a.c stays or will morgan be used more? look forward to your feedback

Alec {Ed052's Note - It depends how long the club give them off now - but I would think they will be back for our first EPL game. And I expect another striker to come in even if Suarez and Carroll don't leave, as Kuyt has gone, as has Maxi and Bellamy might be going too.}

pass n move, tika taka, dutch totalfootball and brazils dominant possesion game of th seventies and eightiesare allthe same thing really. i agree possesion of the footballis great however all these styles required sublime talents in the final third to make the difference and without suarez we have literally no talent inthe final third. possesionof the football is no good really unless you know what to do with it while in possesion. i grew up watching brazil s patient passing game but they had the likes of zico socrates to make things happen in the final third. where are our zicos. i am concerned that we will much like swansea last year be great on the ball but lack a final third cutting edge, i hope brendan can see the absolute neccesity for guile and craft that made all the great possesion teams succesful

Hey guys just a quick point on the support of lack of it from my fellow fans. Last season I took my little lad[3 years old] to his first game, during the game I stopped watching the match and watched my lad for a couple of mins, the sheer joy on his face just being at anfield watchin liverpool was amazing. It just reminded me that I support liverpool first and formost for the love of the club and the joy walking into the ground with me mates and kids in my red shirt. Yes winning the league and playing champions league is great but its not the reason we love liverpool fc

Brilliant post

Last season i remember a sunday morning after a shocking display from the reds on the saturday at anfield and i was going for a paper by mellwood and a dad was taking a picture of his son with all his red gear on out side the gates they must of travelled for the game and even though we lost the day before you could see that the lad was made up , thats what being a fan is all about , red mick tag

Great posts. My lad's first game was the 2-1 home defeat to Blackpool that left us in the bottom 3. We'd driven down from Edinburgh and back in the same day and I was totally gutted. He cared not a jot. He'd had a ball, was hooked there and then and said 'don't worry dad, we'll get there.' And you know, he was right!

Brilliant post mate! Too often people take a dig at our club! We are LFC fans, best in the world and this year I just know we will show it again!

I took my son , then 5, to his first match nearly two seasons ago, as you say the look on their faces, just magic!! godbless96 all reds steviep62.

Was clearing the hot press the other day ,came across stuff i d bought my son during trips to mecca, hes 11 now and a red through and through ,kids denim liver bird jackets and fowler no 9 jerseys
where among the stuff i d found, hes into agger no 5 now as he plays centre half himself (bloody good too) ,think the point is that regardless of how much money the lesser clubs have they will never be us, and he knows that too
and his support for the reds has never waivered even though we ve had more bad times than good during his time as a red, start em young and teach them the faith and we will always have proper fans, not which team will i support this year bandwagon jumpers

Hi Eds

Think is important that all Lfc supporters give the team a chance to gel. Bit shaky but the signs are positive. When are Suarez and Coates back to team? Thought both were reasonable in olympics. However the treatment of luis during anthems and every time he touched a ball was disgraceful..Come on you redmen

I think Suarez is going to be targeted a lot more this year - the press (as with most things) can make a mountain out of a molehill and "whiter than white hola than though" types will always say he was guilty he should stay quiet and apologise.

Difficult when u think Evra was not telling the whole truth etc... but he could be at a funeral giving a speech to a dying mans last wish and some person would boo him. :o(

Every day I see mindless posts on peoples predictions of transfers.
I would like to inform people we will not get 5m for spearing or 1 or 2m for Eccleston, a player who is 22 years old and can't get out of the reserves. Be realistic with your pricing if you are willing to hazard a guess, 2m for spearing and 500k for Eccleston is probably more realistic.
Thanks.

03 Aug 2012 17:12:23
Fenerbache have signed Krasic... for £5.8m! Surely he would of been a worthy signing! I think FSG have got the transfer tactics right this year. We were robbed with the £35m for Carroll all because Torres went to Chelsea for £50m.

Cards are close to the chest.

Here's hoping for Allen to sign soon as and boss the midfield with Lucas and Gerrard.

Agree/diagree anyone?

I'm not saying it will or wont happen transfer wise, but your strongest XI would do some serious damge in the PL. Heres hoping....

Following on from the free transfer of Aquilani to-day , will Rafa Benitez ever get another position in professional football , surely his reputation has been shredded .

I can even recall some posters on this site suggesting that he returns as LFC manager . Sack cloth and ashes anyone ?

Rafa didnt want him

What a muppet you are, man these summer holiday's annoy me

Aquamans transfer was not free.

He is costing LFC money and lots of it to transfer him to Italy.

Find out more lad

Aqua was the best young midfieder in italy, then he got injured and never reached that level again.
benitez took a chance and it did not work.
arbeloa
skrtl
agger
aurelio
alonso
march
torres
they are all benitez buys, and yes voronin babel ect ect were not what we expected but they were all bought because we did not have the money to buy better.
with the money KK had last season benitez would have made top 4.
benitez was and is one of the best.
and he loved the club.

Pep Guardiola bought Zaltan ibrahimovic for 69 million, he played 29 games over 2 years, loaned to Milan for a year and then sold for 24 million.  He also bought Chygrinsky for 25m. His rep seems to be ok.

Jose Mourinho bought Shevchenko for 31m. Fergie bought Veron for 28m back in 2001. They seem to have kept their reputations ok.   Who was it that bought Torres for 50m? Does he have a job still?

SpudRed

Of course he will. How many managers in world football can boast 2 La Liga titles, a Champions League, a UEFA Cup, an FA Cup and a European Super Cup.

Raffa did good things as well as bad things don't we all , but the good things were fab !!!!! red mick tag

You can be rest assured that Rafa will never be allowed to manage at LFC ever again and I am happy about that :)

The fact that Rafa has not had another job since his failure at Inter can sort of give you an idea that there are no clubs interested in him otherwise he would have been scooped up long time ago.

Rafa is still trying to get a job in England. He should wake up and smell the coffeeas it is not going to happen.

His relationship with all the owners of Valencia, LFC and Inter showed the footballing world that he is a very difficult guy to work with and that has harmed his reputation. He might just find himself without a job for a very long time to come...

Red4Life

2 £20m defance Skartel and Agger a £20m Goal keeper Pepe stil Rafa's money in Liverpool.

Be reasonable.

I'm a big critic of Benitez - but lots of clubs would love to have him as their manager.

Hey. Great sore Eds. You do us all proud. Some people on here make me laugh though, must say, calling themselves supported. In one breath saying they want us to sign big players, in the next annoyed that were letting Pacheco go? What do some people want.
My opinion Allen is opinions Top target, and I think he and Hendo will grow well. I also think downing should be given a tad more of a chance, although if say Affely came he would have to fight for first team no doubt.

Anyway. Finally for my question. Do you think this star loan could be Walcott? He's young, with the potential to shine. Maybe BR wants to take him on a year with option to buy, to see if he fits and proves himself under BR's regime?

Lfc Mozzer
YNWA.

P.S. Unfortunately i have seen no lfc players in airports :[ i need to get out more {Ed002's Note - It certainly won't be Walcott as he only has a year to run on his contract.}

Which Ed has the great sore?

03 Aug 2012 16:56:23
So let me get this right. We have sold Aquilani for 400k. But we still have to pay him 1.7m during the next 2 years. We also have to pay agent and administration fees out of the 400k and we have to pay Roma 200k.

What is going on at our club? Do we have monkeys working in our finance/account departments?

At a guess I'd say it's the best deal we could get. Sad, really. Think Ed002 has said it numerous times, but we probably should have taken the previous offer for him.

I think he was/is the type of person that's happier with the pay cheque rather than playing every week and putting in the graft.
We offered him the contract and he's entitled to see it out playing for the stiffs.
We wanted him out and off the books and this was maybe the only way (even if we are paying something towards his wages.).

Brendan

The man is pure class. YNWA

Danny.

He talks a good game but no doubt the PR team wrote that letter, Rodgers probably didnt even see it, Im actually sick of all his over patriotic words, we were brutal in pre season and brutal last night. Words dont win leagues. Sort it out Brendan. Greg

Let's just hope BR doesn't read too much on this site then...passion and commitment? Most of the posters on here were screaming for his head BEFORE kick-off! BR is pure class, and given time and a bit of luck, will help to get us back where we rightly belong.

How can people disagree :/

Words are cheap

Let see some deeds

Well well well, why do some fans bother supporting the team (unless they are undercover utd fans), the manager has voiced his support for the hardened core fans that paid their hard earned cash and some numpties who sit in their arm chairs come on the site just to complain.

Sad Really

Evered

Support rodgers for the love of god! That open letter touched my heart, he really is a good manager for the club and Also for the Liverpool town.

Also nice to see a prober suit on the manager. Looks good.

Agreed on the suit thing. For some reason, managers in track suits at games is a pet peeve of mine (unfair and probably stupid U know, just the way I feel).

03 Aug 2012 16:43:37
To our most respected Eds,

Is there any interest in our scouse midfield maestro? The on of a kind Jay Super Duper Spearing. His excellency the next Stevie G. Whats about his LFC future?

I don't know why Spearing is not substituted last night. instead it was Henderson... is BR deceived by his local back ground...

I think we need to work hard to off load this fella. Not a youngster any more, 25. I can't remember such a crap player being at the club at his age for a long long time.

he is such a liability, we cannot rely on him.

Bosco {Ed002's Note - I don't know of interest in the you lad right now.}

03 Aug 2012 16:41:14
finally aquilani is gone im sure glad the owners are glad to have him of the wage bill.

03 Aug 2012 16:36:18
Im a little dissapiointed to hear that we have lost another player go for next to nothing. Yes I understand that these players were not happy at Liverpool but to me it seems that we are concentrating too much on getting players off the wage bill.

What is going on with the situation in mid field. Seems that we have more players covering that position that we do for the rest of the squad. Starting to become apparent more and more what a mess Dalglish left us in. Only the best intentions or not, he screwed up big time in my opinion.

I don't hold much hope for us next season unless we start landing these players an stop watching them float off to spurs.

Does the history, fan base and size of our club mean nothing anymore or is football all about the size of the owners wallets these days?

Noshbag

Size of the wallet is pretty much it, unfortunately. Good news is we have a decent commercial base to build from once the wage bill gets sorted.

Dalglish was not responsible for Aquaman, Cole and the host of other mid fielders

Try Rafa

Rafa wasnt responsile for cole adam henderson kenny was get it right mate .cmv05

03 Aug 2012 16:24:21
Aquilani can p**s off, i dont wish him luck the money grabbing T**t. Waited and sat on his wage packet untill we paid him off so he gets more money.Good riddance and i hope your career continues to nose dive. Dont be giving me all this tripe about we are liverpool and respect our ex players. He showed us none whatsoever. Enjoy your pile of money you excuse for a professional footballer..
Tommy

Tommy lad thats what the modern players are like, the days are gone when players wanted to play for clubs like liverpool all they want now is who is going to pay the most wages and thats why i cant see any top players signing for liverpool because were trying to get the wage bill down and top players want top wages. ASHY

Was he given a chance or loyalty by us? Nope. Rafa signed him and then he didn't do well first season, came with an injury. Not his fault LFC bought him like that. No chance given beyond that. Hardly his fault they gave him a 125k a week contract. I don't blame him. If I was moved to Italy and I was treated that way, I'd have done the same thing.

I don't believe that anybody in the squad wouldn't do the same has Aqualani.Cole and Carra were both given big contracts, 2 yrs ago and I for one don't think they are worth what we are paying them for being no more than squad players. At the same time I wouldn't expect them to leave for less money, while they hae a contrct..We made a big mistake, but he's gone now, so let's move on.

I hope we never get any other's player's like him.and i hear we payed too get shot of him too that's us all over getting rolled over.and paying some of his wages still i see.thats a fcking joke or what.bye bye chump thanks for all your hard work jog on.joe cole will be next you see.jay essex red for life red till dead

Do you really expect any players who leave to be bothered about the club after LFCs treatment of Andy Carroll? Carroll's treatment just shows that there is no loyalty either way. I have supported Liverpool for 50 years and the reason we are no longer challenging for major honours is that there have been too many incompetents running the club. They have taken the heart and soul out of Liverpool

FSG don't fill me with too much confidence either.

redmersey

03 Aug 2012 16:22:04
It would seem the policy so far is to move out the heavy earners who are not deemed as 1st Team Players, i therefore guess that BELLAMY will be next and poss still Joe Cole.

Brad Jones and Doni to go, and i think he ll go for BUTLAND anyway as a backup/replacement for PEPE, and worst way loan him back out? if PEPE stays another year

Allen is coming to replace AQUA
I think ADAM is going into the deal for DEMPSEY
I pray we get GASTON anyway we need his skill

Either AGGER or SKRTEL need to sign a new deal or be moved on ?! If there not committed but for top dollar !

Id rather keep JONJO at LIVERPOOL i.e. not even loan out, and just get rid of SPEARING he just doesnt offer anything at least JONJO has skills

Keep integrating the YOUNG Lads, i think Sterling and SUSO will now be on the bench more

I think season per season we do need to add one quality player , last year obv SUAREZ so this year we need to do the same again?

Downing, Henderson will come good now, you can see even glimpses of last night that want the ball more.

{Ed002's Note - Aquilani has been gone for the past couple of years so Allen is hardly replacing him.}

A player that actually is on our wage bill playing for our club will do me just fine

My hope:

Cole out

Ramirez, Allen, Dempsey in

Red Ollie

Think we should keep bellamy as his contract runs out at the end of the year anyway.

For me

Ramirez.
Dzagoev.
Munian.

Hey guys, I missed the match last night, can anyone tell me how borini got on? I heard he did a lot of running, was it intelligent or like a headless chicken? And how was he with the ball at his feet? Thanks very much, appreciate it.

He did do a lot of running and from what I could see on tv his movement was really good - he was always offering an outlet for the right pass - unfortunately the right pass never came his way. He didn't see a lot of the ball at his feet but overall considering the overall poor team performance I thought he looked good.

He barely got the ball mate tbh, he looked fine but had NO service at all. You're lucky you didn't see the match. Worst midfield display I've seen in a long time. Our lack of sharpness was painfully evident.

He looked rubbish mate. Dont want to be negative but last night he looked rubbish. I'm sure he will improve, but dont be expecting a world beater.
Put it this way, he's better than Ngog was...!

It was hard for him, as we were playing deep due to Carra and Spearings lack of pace. The gap was to wide between defence and attack. The team weren't going forward together. you could see Carra sucking air every time we moved beyond the half way line.I am not having ago at Carra,I just think we're going to be easy to get at, with him and spearing playing, turn them and they're out of the game, that's why they don,t venture too forward.I think Borini will be a top player for us, once we have more pace in the defensive central positions.

Can't figure out how you would say he looked 'rubbish'. Sure, maybe he didn't get a hat trick but I don't recall him seeing a lot of the ball in good positions. His movement was good, he tracked back on defense, and generally was always running into open spaces. Seemed better than decent to me and excited (yes, 'excited') to see more of him in the future.

From your reaction he seems like a decent new addition! Thanks for the reaction lads.

03 Aug 2012 16:18:50
I don't believe that we are only getting 400k for Aqua. Why would anyone accept that? I'm sorry but that isn't believable at all. Why would we pay his wages at another club to get 400k in return? We might as well have kept him.

BthekingB {Ed002's Note - Actually most of that 400k euros will go on agent and administration fees. You cannot equate the wages to the 400k.}

This is a positive despite people crying about Money being wasted. Unfortunately, nobody was willing to offer anything substantial due to his previous attitude, form and fitness issues. Yes it was a bad deal made by a previous manager, but at least we have (some) wages off the books. Time to take it on the chin and move on.

Hey Eds,

I'm not having a go at Allen he is a good player...but is he any better than Shelvey? who is younger and has more potential than Allen. We need to stop signing GOOD players and try and get GREAT players.

Thatracoonstolemybacon

More potential than Jonjo? You ever watched Allen play? Numpt

He is totally different from Jonjo. Allen looks the business for me, him and lucas + either Gerrard/Hendo/Jonjo would dominate most midfields.
K79

He's a different sort of player than Shelvey. Bit like figuring out who is better out of Xavi and Fabregas. They both offer unique attributes to Barca and Allen/Shelvey would do the same for LFC (not trying to compare Shelvey/Allen to Fabregas/Xavi, just an analogy).

03 Aug 2012 16:05:14
So Aquilani is finally gone. I would be really happy if Cole, Adam, Spearing, Carroll, Eccleston and Brad jones follow suit. Seriously hope Rodgers is able to convince Bellamy to stay and sells cole to reduce the wage bill.

I agree but with the exception of CARROLL. BR needs a Plan B at least and AC provides that. I do feel BR should give AC a chance. Other Premier League Clubs want him. He has come on well following his injury. Played great for last 6 weeks of last season. Played well in the Euros. Looked good in pre-season on Tour. Brendon.....GIVE AC A CHANCE!!
2009 Captain

Plan B is a load of rubbish! If managers have a Plan B then they clearly have doubts about Plan A, and if a manager has doubts about Plan A then there's no hope.

Ive been a Red for over 30 yrs, ive cheered the team on thru the good times and the bad.
Ive bought the shirts, ive sung the songs, ive taken the crap off other supporters.
Today i am even more proud to be a Red as my team become the first premier league team to support gay pride and yet im so dissapointed in some of my fellow supporters.
Ive been a red since i was 7yrs old.. long before i discovered i was gay.
Some of the vile, bigoted and moronic statements by fellow reds about gay people makes it hard to believe YNWA means anything and yet I know in my heart that it means everything!
Being gay is as intrinsic to my being as being black, white, male or female! Just like being a red, its not something i can change, nor do i wish to!
I just hope that My fellow fans show the rest of the world how much better we are than they are.. as we accept ALL reds.. regardless of Race or Sexuality!
Well done LFC for being the leader, once again, in breaking new boundries!

Don't let the bigots get you down m8. They're just a*******s with issues. Rise above it m8.

As a straight guy, I'm sorry for the s*** that gays get. It's not my fault I know, but anyhoo...

- I'd like to think that such morans are in the vast minority these days - and that old homophobic attitudes have certainly changed for the better. But there is doubtless more work to be done.

This sounds a little silly to you probably, but I actually watched the film 'Milk' last night (if you haven't seen it - watch it folks) about the San Francisco gay rights activist Harvey Milk - and thought to myself that a lot of the 'casual homophobes' out there should really watch it - a good starting point if you know nothing about these issues anyway.

When you're straight - you tend not to think much about what gay people go through. You just don't have to deal with it.

There's some serious bigotry depicted in that film - and that guy was one ballsy Mother-F*cker to stand up to it...

Genuinely it was one of the best films I've seen in recent times (a hell of a lot better than The Dark Knight, thats for sure).

So reading this today is very pleasing.

Good to see that progress marches on - whether the bigots like it or not. The spirit of Harvey Milk - and others like him - marches on.

Man - If you love Liverpool, you're my brother - and the bigots can piss off - because we don't want them at Anfield. YNWA.

Also - If Anyone hears any homophobic crap this season (or any season obviously) - Just quietly and discreetly report it to a steward. The same for all bigoted acts.

Arrests for this crap should be a badge of honour for clubs, not a source of shame - thats how I felt about that 'monkey chanting Neanderthal' against Utd last season too.

LFC cannot be responsible for these bigots' behaviour when they get into the ground - they represent themselves with their bigotry - not LFC. Supporting this campaign makes that crystal clear now.

They can't control how they behave, true - but Liverpool can sure as hell chuck these bigots out on their arses - and tell them they're not wanted.

LFC is on your side m8. Not these gits. Remember that.

Take it easy m8. I enjoy your posts too.

BJH YNWA

Its official Aqua left the Club.....One huge wage burden gone!! {Ed002's Note - Not entirely. The club are continuing to pay his wages to the tune of 1.7M euros for the next two years.}

Ed002..... Yes but surely we are better off by having sold him?
Even if we are paying his wages for 2 yrs as you say. If they pay 4 million to sign him then basically we have let him go for 2 million.
I can deal with that..... 2 million for a player who was not ever here anyway.....
Got to be the worst transfer for Liverpool in modern times.....

Liverpool bid 16mil for Gaston Ramirez for the 156th time...

03 Aug 2012 15:22:06
A very clunky Bing translation of a story in today's Calcio Mercato. who knows, it might even be true after all (maybe...)
It seems very close to farewell to Italy and to the Bologna playmaker and during national, Gaston Ramirez. Despite strong interest towards the young celeste by Inter, Juventus and Napoli and Milan, he will brief the Bel Paese. On his trail there is pressing for a long time the Liverpool, and as collected exclusively by the editorial staff of Calciomercatonews.com, in recent days the British company would have tightened the ranks by presenting a concrete offer of as many as 16 million. The club emiliano ne would like to get at least twenty but it is very likely that the agreement is, as usual, Midway, around 18 million maybe more bonuses. For now the Reds is the only official bid submitted to have Ramirez and consequently the rossoblu would seem very likely to give the guy in the Premier League. The white smoke may be brief except twists.

Love this part-

"The white smoke may be brief except twists."

Almost feels like another one of Ed002's clues...

Just looking through posts and I can't believe how negative people are.

Last night we weren't the best , but its still pre season with players trying to get match fit again.

Gomel are already into there season , hence the being out played.

Just to note that oldham beat man city earlier in the week , so it shows pre season means s***.

I don't think either that we have to sell to buy for funds , its more selling to clear the wage book before we buy.

Players at Liverpool have been earning stupid money for sitting on there arses in reserves or even worse sitting at home (degan).

The club need to tidy up the wage bill which is what there trying to do.

Just have a little patience please .......

Just a quick post why is every one disappointed in Allen possibly joining us ? He's a young quality player he's ran the game for gb I though If he was called claudio jahinio an was from brazil every one would be over the moon I think he's a quality player IMO. what do you think e, every body ?

& btw any news on agger ?

Cheers

Sponge Bob x

I'm not having a go at Allen he is a good player...but is he any better than Shelvey? who is younger and has more potential than Allen. We need to stop signing GOOD players and try and get GREAT players.

Thatracoonstolemybacon

Omg he never ran the game for team GB if you watched the game you would notice that cleverly ran the game, yes allan played good but he never ran the game.

Cleverley is over-rated. Take Allen out and the whole defense will crumble. Also Allen is way more versatile.

Haha you think cleverly is class? Back to your manc page mate

I will be happy if Allen signed as I am from the same area as him (Pembrokeshire) and played against him at a younger age many times.

One thing I will say is he very rarely gives away possession and is always in space to receive the ball which is pivotal to Rodgers style of play. The only thing he may need to work on is his strength as he as always had a small frame but that will come in time as he is still just 22.

Just get behind him and I think he will be good.

Arsenal close to signing cazorla and sahin and were going for Allen?? Bloody joke same bs every year

Has Allen looked good in the English Premier League? - YES, is there any guarantee that the 2 players mentioned will be a success in the EPL? - NO.

Get a grip.

John B

I think anyone who watched the game yesterday could see we were practically crying out for a player like Joe Allen who can handle the ball under pressure in the middle of the pitch and has tidy distribution to keep things ticking along.

Personally I think he (or someone much like him) is most definitely needed in our side.

RDL

John B i think you need to grow up and stop being tainted because if liverpool were signing cazorla and sahin you would be absolutly made up so stop being bitter the two lads are boss players, allen is a good player but he is nothing special a average player at best.

Have you ever seen cazorla and sahin play? Allen is a quality player and will form an excellent partnership with Shelvey, Henderson, Lucas and Gerrard.

PJ

Agree with PJ, but cazorla and sahin would be pretty good in our team you can't deny..

Yes i think everyone has seen Santi and Nuri play..i really hope we go in for Walcott if Arsenal do get these two players. looks like arsene has had enough of the younger players and is fixin to stay in the top four, after realizing that spurs, newcastle and us are all pushing for that forth spot. with city, manu and chelsea seen as the only real title contenders.

and what are we doing? going to give it a real go! (very encouraging)

Our Targets Have To Be
1. Allen, 22 £12.5m
2. Walcott, 23 - £12m
3. Vargas, 28 - £4m
4. Pato, 23 - loan
5. Kjaer, 23 - £8m
borini £10.5m
sign them all for £47m

That is all we need and suddenly we would have a very strong, young, experienced squad.

sell
Bellamy £2m
Carroll £2m
Spearing £2.5m
Adam £6m
Skrtel £17.5m

making £30m and spending only £17m

GK; Reina
RB; Johnson
CBR; Kjaer
CBL; Agger
LB; Enrique
HM; Lucas
AMR; Gerrard
CML; Allen
RFW; suarez
LFW; walcott
CF; pato

1. doni
2. kelly
3. coates
4. henderson
5. vargas
6. downing
7. borini

Is it true we have to sell to buy?

Its good that some of the deadwood have been shown the door. But we need to get rid of more than just Maxi, Kuyt and Aquilani.

Its obvious that Carroll will go. But its also obvious that Spearing, Downing, Handerson and Adam are not Liverpool quality. Still cant believe Kenny wasted over 100m on that lot. They need to go.

And what about Suarez, Agger and Skrtel? I think Skrtel may stay. But im pretty sure Agger and Suarez will look for moves away. Suarez got so much stick at the Olympics at Wembley, Old Trafford and The Millenium Stadium. He wont stick around for that next season. I know he says that ''They only boo because they are afraid to play against me''. We all know he only gets booed because he was found guilty of making racist remarks. We dont see players like Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, Xavi been booed at every away game. In fairness, Suarez brought all this on himself.

Next season is going to be very hard in my opinion. Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Spurs have all made improvements to their squad. City will also make improvements, as will Newcastle. We could be losing out best 2 players in Suarez and Agger. Do we have money to spend?

Why did we pay 11m for Borini. He has only played 33 games in nearly 5 years. We always overpay for average players. 15m for Joe Allen is a joke. And Dempsey is the same, Not worth more than 7-8m.

Carragher should retire aswell. Great servant to the club but he costs us too many points now.

VarneyDub YNWA

Don't ever refer to players as deadwood. they are better footballers than anyone who will be posting on this site.

Apart from maybe Spearing. I play League of Ireland and I'm much better than he is

Oh my GOD!!!

I just happen to read two lines in the middle of that post.

It described how Borini is not a good signing as he has not made around 100 appearance in last 5 years.

WAKE UP. Borini is not 25 years old. He is 21 for Christ's sake. The fact that he has that high number of appearances is commendable. He is younger than Pacheco!
Did you expect to play ahead of Drogba and Anelka when he was 17 or 18.(sigh)

I sometimes feel absolutely hopeless about some of the dumbheads that post here. The only question is why the hell do they use YNWA after their name ?

In my opinion the FSG and BR plan should be judged over a three year period and i think liverpools well documented intelligent fans need to understand this.

The way i see it a lot of money was spent last summer and Im not criticising the signings but the end result was a deteriation in league form- fact.

I think we will act in the transfer window and clearly we have to but there is no way that after last years dealings we will rush into anything. I think we are trying to build some credibility again by dealing late on and not overpaying - this should see a level playing field return .

Basic business sense to reduce hiked prices.

Im not a blind fan who follows the owners regardless, far from it i want success as well and we will need class signings but it is a three year project at least and before anyone slates FSG you need to think where we would have been if they were not involved.

By who? - Surely not the great ( incredibly overrated ) Rafael Benitez - the man who the minority of Liverpool fans think he could do now wrong, I will remember him as the manager who never made a mistake, and that anything that went wrong was someone elses fault.

I am sure other Premier league teams have noted that we want to impose one type of football.

Without a plan 'B'.

This is just my opinion obviously, but I think LFC needs to work on getting plan A together before we worry so much about plan B.

A 'backup plan' would be nice to have, obviously, but if money from those some think are 'Plan B' material can be used to make Plan A actually work in the first place, surely that is a better use of funds?

Aqua man gone according to Fiorentina. What did we get for the sook? {Ed002's Note - After costs, about nothing. It seems to be along the lines of Fiorentina will pay Liverpool 4M euros for the transfer. Liverpool will pay 200k euros to Roma and 3.4M euros to Aquilani to supplement his wages. I imagine the rest will disappear in fees. It is pretty much the "release" deal Aquilani and his agent have been trying for. You will now no doubt see a long line of abusive trolls come out and apologise to me.}

Gylfi was the best player of Swansea last year. he cost £8m and we let him go just beacouse he want more £10k a week of salary. it's a mistake BR. he wait so long for getting a offer from Liverpool. his father twieet that gylfi deal not done yet as he still thinking about the option just before a day of his move to Tottenham. we can't use £20/30m to bring astar player we did'nt buy a good player just beacouse he asking a little more salary.

hhh

How do you know it was an extra 10k a week salary? and his father doesn't even have twitter so i dont kknow what *tweets* you've been reading

I think Rodgers was right to let him go because what gives Gylfi the right to demand more wages when he agreed the same wage when his proposed move to Swansea was in place.

Rodgers wants players to play for the badge not extra cash he done the right thing by thinking of the club in the long term!

"The aquaduct....?!" LOL!!

Perhaps the Aquilani is more appropriate today!

JRG

JRG post reminds me of life of brian :-) Redevon

What did KK did last year with us??

He won the CL with Houlliers team, and almost lost it with his team selection ( Kewell ), one very lucky FA Cup win - I seem to remember Roy Evans came second in PL and he also gave us our worse finish in PL, prior to last year. And blamed all his faults on Hicks and Gillet who gave him an awful lot of money, which an awful lot he wasted - it doesn't take any form of football genius to sign Mascherano, Torres, Kuyt.

I agree Benitez was a legend - but only in his own mind, why is the Legend still out of work? - could it be no one likes his attitude or even his CV?

John B

Look at the player Rafa Bought. Torres, Alonso, Albeloa, Mascherano, Aggar, Skartel, Pepe, Lucas. Most of the young star Like Raheem, Suso all is Rafa's choice. he is the Best manager we have in Last 10 years.

r-r

Redevon

It was a joke based on life of Brian. I think it goes over most people's heads.

JRG

Hicks and Gillett funded the Torres deal :/ Not Rafa, and Rafa only made a few signings to win the CL with Houlliers squad, one was Alonso and the rest were average. May I also talk of Degen, El Zhar, Aqualoani, Ngog, Babel, etc etc etc. He may have made 4/5 good signings but only 2 are still here.

Ben

Clearly Life of Brian is loved by some, but never heard of by others....!

It seems that Damien Commoli is Brian, or at least leads his life like him. When other clubs asked him 'Aren't you going to haggle?', he says he didn't want to.

I do not understand why Spurs appear to be getting the better of us on player transfers. It it because people do not want to play for Brendan Rodgers or is it simply that Spurs owners want top 4 more than ours. We are both in a similar position. Thoughts please

Spurs are giving all the players they talk to stupid contract offers so they go to them.

Perhaps you could explain the question better with some examples of where Spurs have 'got the better of us' on transfers.

The only player Spurs have signed who we showed any interest in was Sigurdsson and in the end we never bid for him, so they didn't beat us to him.

Spurs were after Andy Carroll, Charlie Adam and Joe Cole and they all signed for us so I don't see your point.

Good answer JRG but I wish Spurs HAD beaten us to those three

Ed02 this whole business about having to sell to buy, is it more a case of getting a players wages off the books instead of the actuall transfer fee? It would make good financial sense I mean why spend money on a player and pay him wages when your paying someone else who is obsolete

Gman {Ed002's Note - People are just getting themselves in to a mess about "sell to buy" and pretty much all financial stuff. I have spent months trying to explain that Liverpool have resposnible owners who want to move toward a sustainable model - as do every other club. As an example, Chelsea need to replenish an aging squad with the likes of Drogba, Anelka, Bosingwa, Ferriera, Lampard and Malouda getting toward the tail end of their careers at the top level - so taht is why they are spending so much. Liverpool did much of their rebuilding last year and are now really just making smaller changes and filling in gaps where cover does not exist. Supporters spend months saying they want the youngsters to be given a chance and then spend the transfer window demanding new players arrive. Borini has arrived, some fringe players have left. The window is open another four weeks. Allen should complete once he is out of teh Olympics. Dempsey is in and and something could happen. If a CB leaves then one will probably arrive. If Suarez leaves the I would expect someone to come in. Within reason money is not an issue.}

There is no way the club will ever reveal what Alberto was sold for, purely out of sheer embarassment.

We have earned some decent money from player sales in the last few years, and then wasted it on buying absolute crap.
Only one worthwhile was Suarez, and he now wants to leave.

As they say 'A fool and his money are easily parted', and boy are LFC looking really foolish in the transfer market.

What a damn waste. {Ed002's Note - All transfer fees are reportable and recorded on a database now. Liverpool may not directly tell teh press but Fiorentina will make the figures available. I would trust the numbers I provided until we have better confirmation.}

He was bought by the previous regime, so I don't see why FSG would have any need to be 'embarassed' by it

I don't get it. up until march people loved enrique, he made a mistake in the carling cup final and people slate his positioning and such. doni was only ever going to be a sub keeper. hendo is still young with lots of potential, i don't see why he is getting written off as a bad signing already! carroll was a duff up but he still can improve, although it looks like he is going which is fair enough- a very able replacement will be bought. adam hasn't had the greatest season, however he got a couple of goals and assists and was good up until january; also for about 8 million you're not going to get a world beater. downing is not a lost cause, if our finishing was better he would've finished the league campaign with about 12 assists and we'd be happy with him.

03 Aug 2012 13:22:24
Its a shame that our great club has to sell its best players to finance transfers. If Suarez is sold I dont see us finding a equaly good replacement. We will get stronger with time as we always do but right nownow I dont see us getting any higher than mid table without a decent financial support from the owners.

Why is this school of thought so prominent at the moment? Many 'sources'/'insiders' have made the same sort of comment along the lines of - Why should we let everyone know how much we have to spend? They'll up the price even more -

The truth, more accurately, is that FSG is trying to curb the wage bill brought about by paying underachieving players more than they are worth. They don't seem to be afraid of spending money on new players but they want get stable and balance the business first.

Our growth under Rodgers is not going to happen over night, and FSG are here for the long term success of our club. So, in order to build we have to get the foundation solid. This will require selling players we don't want and/or can't use as well as buying players we want and can use. The cost of the transfers are not the hearth of the matter. Building the proper foundation of the club in order for us to grow and become successfully year after year again, is.

Okay ed002 I have a few Russian Premier League based questions.

Is a return for Andrey Arshavin to Zenit St Petersburg on the cards as he excelled with them as they became champions last season?

As CSKA Moskva have signed Az Alkmaar's Rasmus Elm does this signal the end for Keisuke Honda or is Rasmus bought to complement the Japanese playmaker?

With CSKA's Tomas Necid suffering from a long term injury, the club are apparently making efforts to sign the coveted Rsc Anderlecht striker Matias Suarez. Have you heard anything on this line?

Domenico Criscito the Italian left back scored for Zenit at the weekend. Is there anything new on his match fixing allegations and will he be sacked by Zenit if he is found guilty?

Have you heard anything on Lokomotiv Moscow striker Felipe Caicedo transferring to Espanyol?

Thanks very much in advance. Sorry for the array of questions just some queries I had.

Hello Eds do we have any interest in Wayama (the lad from celtic) ? He could be an ideal back-up to Lucas & wouldn't cost more than 7-8 mil.
I genuinely don't know if our Scouts perform their jobs. The lad is absolute Quality & strong. An ideal CDM. {Ed002's Note - Would he want to be a back up to someone else? A move to Arsenal may beckon for him.}

Don't you feel he would be a back-up at Arsenal too. OR are they really letting Song leave.

Barcelona interested in Song according to Sly Sports

Hello Eds please answer this as bluntly as you can. Are we on a sell to buy basis ?
fellow kopites please don't take is as a negative post, I just am concerned. I never really expected us to target 20 million+ players but the ones we are targeting are really taking too long to get. {Ed002's Note - I have spent months explaining that the owners will be financially supportive "within reason". If you are referring to Allen's transfer as taking a long time there are complexities such as him being away at the Olympics. I appreciate that others have mentioned a big spending summer etc., but much of what will happen still depends on players departing. If Agger goes expect Amorebieta or another centre back to come in. If Suarez goes expect someone to come in.}

Dear Ed 02, its the 'within reason' part that scares me the most.

Sure you can buy a cheap car for $10k or a sports one for $50k.
Both serve the same purpose 'getting from A to B', but one has better speed, performance, safety features, and potential resale value.
This is why 'within reason' is a very grey area indeed. {Ed002's Note - So where would the money come from for a fleet of sports cars?}

03 Aug 2012 13:02:15
Any1 ever thought maybe we don't have to sell to buy, maybe owners just being sensible with money now, taking time to get the best deal on players instead of paying over the odds again Frustrating but let's judge at end of transfer window.

Scouseme

Completely agree. I'm just waiting for all the r*****s to start disliking this post because WE MUST BE POOR. persons.

Can you blame them mate?

16 mill for Henderson, 35 mill for Carroll and the worse money spent was 20 mill on Downing. 70 mill on 3 players that are probably only worth 40-50 mill, for the 3 of them.

It's not FSG's fault the blame has to go to Comolli, Kenny and Ayre. Who over paid for these players. Comolli is gone, Kenny is gone but Ayre is still in his job?

Unbelievable.

Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle has announced that the club are to sign Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool.

Alberto Aquilani is departing Anfield for Fiorentina
Aquilani, 28, joined Liverpool from Roma in 2009 during Rafael Benitez's reign, but he struggled with injury in his debut campaign and he spent the following two seasons on loan with Juventus and AC Milan.

New Reds manager Brendan Rodgers had indicated he would be happy to accommodate Aquilani this season, and the player's agent insisted on several occasions that he would spend the campaign at Anfield, but he has now agreed to a move to Fiorentina.

"We have signed Aquilani," Della Valle said, with the Italy international apparently due to undergo a medical on Friday.

Danny.

Aquilani signs for Fiorentina for 2m

03 Aug 2012 12:46:38
Why is everyone reading so much in to agger not playing last night??? Everyone knows his injury history, so is pretty obvious he didn't want to risk him in a game we should be winning with out question. I personally think it was a great decision, keep him fresh for the start of the league. Added to this is the fact he has said he wants to stay and sign a new contract. Stop reading so much into every little thing

03 Aug 2012 12:45:27
Think Aquilani has gone. Fiorentina rumoured to have signed him. Anything on a fee, eds? Great job btw - long time reader here. {Ed002's Note - I have explained the fee as I understand it in another post. It is effectively gone and can be forgotten - no fee to speak of after costs.}

03 Aug 2012 12:39:57
If we need to sell to buy, Carroll sold and another striker in to replace, Dempsey? Agger to go? as we have a few CB's Kelly, Coates, Wilson, Wisdom, Samma, Carra, Skirtel and use the money for Allen. I would hope the potential loan signing is a striker. If we play 433, Sinclair could be the other purchase and the balance would be much better. The likes of Pacheco, Suso, Sterling, Adjoran, Morgan may have more game time than expected. The gamble is that losing Carroll, Agger and Adam could be a positive or we may struggle as the likes of Allen and Dempsey, plus one or two others really need to be in asap to get used to our players as our first six games are tough. Other ponderables Pepe and Suarez stay or go? You cannot change half a team and expect instant success. I'm looking forward to going the next leg against Gomel and see what personnel we have out there. I like many have been a fan of Pacheco and Suso and would have hoped they would be involved in the first leg.

EVO YNWA

03 Aug 2012 12:35:50
Our front three will be built around Suarez - Borini and Dempsey competing for the other 2 places with Pacheco and another signing if Carrol leaves. Personally i think teams would have an absolute nightmare with a front 3 of them. Suarez is world class, Dempsey has the experience and Borini and Pacheco are two talents that on their day can be amazing. Lets get behind the team! If we get Ramirez and Allen then we wil have one hell of a squad

jonjo shelvey was one of the few players to practice with the new coach from day one, and they didnt use him at all. other than downings goal they looked like a mess on the field. not starting shelvey i think was bad judgement from rodgers.

It's his first match you person. Did you expect us to win 5-0 and play like Barcelona? Have some patience. You clearly don't understand football. If he's seen Shelvey train each day he's the best judge, right?

I under stand that it was first game but we looked under pressure every time we had the ball. these are perfessional footballers and should be able to hold and pass the ball comfortably

So u say we are not barca...then what are we?..all other teams having a great pre season...

He played Henderson and Downing over the likes of Shelvey and Pacheco because the entire squad needs match fitness.

Red Ollie

Gomel are half way through the season, they are sharper and fitter, you are clearly an idioy who knows nothing about football, go support chitea

To the third replier, do you judge a team by pre-season?

Because what you are saying is CHELSEA WILL BE RELEGATED. That is actually big news.

Corvin

"All other teams are having a better preseason" Utter nonsense!

Arsenal: W1, Drew 1 and lost 1, draw was against Kitchee?! and Win against Malaysisa 2-1

Chelsea: W1, D1, L2 - Beat Seattle 4-2, drew with PSG, Lost to Ac Milan and lost to MLS Allstars.

Man Utd- W2, D1, All South African teams, wins were just 1-0's

Man City - W3, D1, L2, including losses to Oldham and Al Hilal, drew with Dynamo Dresden.

Spurs W2, D2, Beat Stevanage and New York Red Bulls, drew L'pool, and LA Galaxy

Liverpool, L1, D2, W1 (Europa League qualifier away In Belarus, after flying back in from the USA)

Please explain to me exactly where other teams have done any better? Did any of the other teams field so many reserves and youngsters to begin with aswell?

Why is only here these few preseason games are ebign torn to shreds and used as ammo, I haven't been on other fan pages but I expect they are not all freaking out like some people here.

The people on here constantly whinging are becoming an embarrassment to the club and the rest of its fans

6 of the first team got their first 90 minutes in after their first week of pre-season under a new manager. Jonjo has already played in 3 pre-season games. Its 2 weeks to the start of the premier league, so when would you have given our first teamers a full run out?

Since when have we turned into a club that needs to sell players before we can buy. Its ridiculous that 1 of the biggest clubs in world football has to do this. Im grateful the americans paid off our debt but how can they expect us to challenge for the top 4 spots without a decent amount of financial backing. We need atleast 4 signings a lb to compete with enrique, 2 creative players who can play on the wings and a striker whos gonna get us atleast 15 prem goals a season. {Ed002's Note - It is a great pity that you don't see what the owners have been doing as providing fianncial backing for the club.}

03 Aug 2012 12:13:00
Ed's is the interest in Dempsey still there? I'd go as far as saying he'd be one of our best purchases this season but there shouldn't be any reason why this isn't closed down yet. Hopefully the interest is still there because he would be a great addition to the team.

As far as the big loan signing (or any 'big' signing) I really think we should be ambitious and be going after players like Muller from Bayern. If not him then someone of his caliber. I know it's difficult to lure players to lfc but we managed to get Suarez and hopefully we can manage to bring in a big player like Muller on loan. We need goals and that was still evident during yesterdays game. {Ed002's Note - RTP.}

03 Aug 2012 12:06:08
hi eds how much interest is there in Ramirez
and also do you think the Dempsey deal is still on its all gone a bit quiet {Ed002's Note - There is a great deal of interest in Ramirez from several clubs although I think Wolfsburg are probably out of the hunt right now. Efforts continue to sort a deal out for Dempsey.}

From reading the posts this morning it appears that a lot of our future business in the transfer window will depend on sales. I was wondering whether this was exclusive of deals for allen and dempsey or whether funding for them is driven by player sales?

Also not that I am desperate to see either carroll or skrtel/agger go (in fact really don't want to see agger leave) surely if we recouped upward of £35 million for the pair surely this could be re-invested to better our first 11.

Cheers

Hi eds, great sight.mremember reading our football rumours as far back as when everyone used to say we were nailed on to sign joaquin from Real betis haha

I was wondering as to why we are putting so much faith in this claim that a 'major' star is supposed to be coming in... And to add, have there been any murmerings as to who it might be IF (very big IF) it ends up being correct

Hey eds, there was been suggestion that the Aquilani deal worth £18 mill has so far only cost LFC 12mill and if he makes a few more appearences then this will rise to 18. Due to this, he has been loaned out in the past two seasons with an eye to get him off the wage bill and also to get him a buyer as LFC are unprepared to complete the full payment. Is this correct or mere speculation? His wages are an absolute joke. As much as I love Rafa, I will never forgive him for selling Alonso and bringing in an inaqequete replacement. Still suffering because of that departure.

Need Allen, our midfield has no presence at all. {Ed002's Note - Whoever suggested that is wrong. Liverpool have already paid the full 20M euro fee and supported his wages whilst on loan. Obviously more is owed to Roma as he plays more games - but the figures (from memory) are €250k at 35 games (and I think he is well short of that), again at 70 games, 105 and 140 games. There are further add ons for getting in to the Champions League, winning same and winng the league (I don't recall the number off the top of my head). 5% of any sell on fee will be paid to Roma.}

Did u steal Aquilani's contract Ed002 :P

So what you're saying, is we'll lose arguably our best defender to Man City, and they'll loan us a striker to essentially give him first team football and improve his playing, so then he can go back to Man City where they'll have a stronger defence AND attack thanks to us - and then we'll play against them. HMMMM. I'll hedge my bets that this is garbage.

Malaga are having a quick fire sale of their best players, as part of a 'refinancing' phase quoted by the owner yesterday. The manager will quit and they are in a mini-freefall for the time being. Some top players are available at cut-price fees. Arsenal tested the waters with Cazorla, and struck gold for around £15m (he's easily worth £25m–£30m in the current market).

Now the likes of Rondon, Toulalan, Isco, Monreal, Baptista - good players could all be available. If we need left wing and LB competition for Enrique, Monreal would be ideal. But more importantly, if need 1 more striker to replace outgoing Carroll and most likely Bellamy, then Rondon would be massive signing, especially for a cut price £8m or so.

I'd love there to be renewed interest in Rondon in the coming days. If there was some original interest, then we must be in the mix now he's cut-price. Would be nice to trump Spurs to the signing, get one back at them! Eds have you heard of anything new on interest in Rondon from us? RC

Here here but not even for the spurs thing its about time we started getting good players cheap enough like other clubs seem to do

Let's face it, we won't be buying anybody from Malaga. We will have to make do with Brendan's old pals from Swansea.

Well, we've watched him, so I trust the club to make a right decision.
However, I also support the view that the "Mystery Loan Signing" might prove to be a striker (Gods, just not Tevez...).

Perhaps some posters on here should heed what is happening at Malaga as a warning before they next moan about FSG not being the right owners or not spending enough money.

Id like to say well done to the Lad Jamie Carragher for 700 games an not out, I know amongst some so called fans he divides opinion but I think he has been class, reliable, dedicated and looking at his medal haul successful for Liverpool.

Im sure he will make a great coach in the future.

Thank you Carra - Liverpool Legend!

YNWA jns

700 is a good run and something to be well proud off, and fair play to the lad, but he needs to call it a day, his time is up

He is third choice now after Agger and Skrtel im sure he understand that's, he will be a experience squad player helpful to the young players - just ask Morgan and he will also ready to set in at any time when needed as I said - Legend!

The 4 people that disagreed are not Liverpool supporters in my opinion and don't understand football.

He is not 3rd choice, more like 4th choice. Im sure BR has more than enough sense to see that young Coates needs gamtime to develop into a fantastic defender, while carra is past it.

Aquilani to fiorentina done according to la gazetta, liverpool will still contribute to his 1.7m euro per year wages. And according to l'equipe, we have received about 4 million euros as a transfer fee.

Shame he is gone, but lets move on. This is a pretty good deal for lfc to get him off the books once and for all.

Eds would you happen to know when suarez is expected to e back at lfc? I would guess somewhere near the end of next week?

Hi Eds

just wondering why Liverpool or any other of the top sides in the league don't seem to be interested in Jordn Rhodes, I mean the boy is in his early 20's scored 40+ goals last season & surely would thrive with better service from the likes of Gerrard, Suarez, Bellmy & Allen (if we get him), I know he was only in League 2 but its about time people took a punt on these kids, remember the likes of Rush & Aldridge came from Chester & Oxford & came to do great things here & at a rumoured £5million with a decent chance of a good sell on value if it doesnt work out would it not be worth it?, love to hear your views on the kid Eds.
Also live in Anfield & there is a bit of rumour flying round about Alonso, apparently he still has a house over here which he rents out & apparently his tennants have been evicted, I know if its true about his house it could be more to the fact his tennants might of been up to no good, he my be having work done or selling it ect rather than a return to Liverpool for Alonso but with Modric looking likely to go to Real Madrid & us apparently bringing in a "major loan signing" I suppose it could be a slight possibility, I would love to see him back but not sure if I could see him back next seson, maybe in a year or 2 when his contract ends at Madrid more of ending his carear with us a-la Gary Macallister.
Cheers Eds
John {Ed002's Note - There has been considerable interest in Rhodes. Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa, Fulham and West Ham are certainly chasing Rhodes with Fulham looking to replace Dempsey with Rhodes.}

Too many people saying "keep Carroll as a plan B" and even "barca are trying to get llorente for a plan B" there IS a difference! Llorente can actually pass the ball, therefore fitting into the system, he isn't just a target man he helps in the build up... Who's to say Rodgers isn't looking at a 'Plan B'?
He might be after a target man, just one who fits the system better, it's not all about size...

Finally someone talking some sense ....as far as Carroll goes I hope we get rid his ball work is pathetic!

Eds I reckon the Loan signing is A.Johnson from City he's not that big a player but he's still good when he plays Any chance? {Ed002's Note - I don't know who it is.}

How is he a star?

Assuming city do get RVP, why wouldnt we get tevez on loan? they want agger but we dont need to sell him, he wants to stay....dont see the logic of selling one of our best players just for transfer funds

"star loan signing":
According the the eds, Higuain was offered to chelsea in Jan, providing Chelsea don't move for Cavani. Real Madrid is also interested in Neymar (but it might be next season). So it is obvious Real Madrid are looking for a striker and I guess Higuain is or will be surplus to requirements.

I doubt he would want to move to us but I just can't think of anyone else at the moment. Pato, Villa, and any players from the EPL seem unlikely. I'm completely clueless!

redkenyan

It wouldn't make sense for Neymar to move next summer. It would be too much for him to move to a new team, in a new continent, playing football at a level he is not used to, and finish the season with a world cup. He will either move this summer (now looking less likely) or after the world cup.

Neil Taylor: I was quite impressed with him last season and in the Olympics, he is fast, can defend well, overlaps well and has an end product. Also did anyone see his effort against Uruguay. A very good player.

Lil Red

I'm surprised we haven't been more heavily linked with him, considering Jose's form in the 2nd half of last season.

I liked Taylor last season, and he is showing versatility at right back for GB. I think we should wait to see if Jose can get himself out of his funk and back into this 1st half of the season form before we look to bring in another left back.

RedSG

Agree as Enrique has been disappointing recently. I also mentioned a few days back that we should go for Allen, Sinclair and Taylor from Swansea. Also Caulkier from spurs which will be difficult though .Redevon

No Liverpool were not at their best last night, but they won. Sometimes it's just as important to look at the result, especially away from home in Europe, than the overall performance. It was the first competitive game of the season, so yes, there were going to be a lot of players looking rusty. Don't judge a team over one single performance. They will improve as the season goes on I'm certain.

03 Aug 2012 09:27:02
Seriously starting to get pissed off with spurs, the cheeky b******s

They've been playing at being a big club for years. They never actually do anything mind. But still think they are. Deluded.

What recent development, neither team have done a stitch

Ok let's concentrate in Liverpool then. We won a cup last season. Can't think of the last thing spurs won.

Is anybody else just a little bit concerned that we are not up to speed fitness wise yet and there's only 2 games left before the season starts and its not like we have a nice easy few games to start the season off of it

Mat lfc

We are at the same level as all other teams, each player reacts differently to rest / training.

You often hear the term " match fit" this relates to mentality of a player, he can do it in training all day every day, but can he transfer it onto the pitch? relates to his mentality.

Conditioning, nothing to do with carrolls lovely locks ! Its how different players react to the gaps between rest and full fitness, commonly used for players who have suffered bad injuries, Gerrard has a huge program, always has due to groin/back issues since a child, and sometimes rest affects the program.

Johnson was given 45mins last night to see how his progress has been made for his program, Dagger was not taken as he is recovering from playing in US, on his conditioning program he will not be risked.

Each player reacts differently, the likes of Lampard, Henderson, De Jong etc can play every game all season because their bodies are used to it, and require minimal rest.

So, if you are concerned about last nights game have a think. The bulk of last night had 4 week off, a week at Melwood with BR, a week in USA, a day at Melwood then a game in Belarus ( around 3000 mile round trip) Cole for me( and i think BR) was the stand out in terms of lack of fitness last night, being as though he was one of the first back to Melwood ! but it is first competitive game, and i like Joe always have, just want him to prove a few wrong and bow out gracefully.

This Europa qualifying will help and hinder us, but it has to be done.
Give the team time, fitness will come it always does.
Piddy.

Good sensible post from Piddy.

We should be more accepting with this team. They are young and will learn as they grow and mature.

LiverBird

Cheers Liver.
I expect people just dont realise how much rest can affect the body, when that body is used to being pushed to its limits regularly.
Run -downs after games, ice baths after games, specific drinks for each type of player. Science is coming more and more into the game, people just dont see it.

Just wondered why brendan is so keen to get rid of carroll without even giving him a chance..was one of our better players back end of last season..looked a lot sharper and played with a passion unlike a lot of them..surely cant look good to the owners coming in and saying sell ur most expensive purchase for half what u paid..he deserves a chance feel sorry for the big lad..

Carroll is to slow mentally and physically for Rodgers "system". Get rid asap. Redevon

I would think the problem is with his off the pitch lifestyle! But I' m just guessing!

HK

I think he'd only be a back-up as we'll only play one through the middle and if we can get 20m for a back-up that money can be reinvested in first-teamers. I don't think Rodgers has any sort of vendetta against Carroll but it's a matter of finance

All over the internet the names that keep coming up are:

J. Allen
C. Dempsey
G. Ramirez
J. Vargas
J. Butland
Plus the loan signing that we seem to be making according to Macca. That gives us a decent squad for next year regardless of who the loan signing is, if all goes to plan it should be a good season for the men in red.

I think Butland will come in should Reina leave, but not otherwise

Under Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool have been trying to implement a new style of blaming, should they lose this season. Unlike last season, where the aim was to give the blame to Andy Carroll as quickly as possible, this season the blame will be moved around in short, intricate, one question triangles, with players desperate to find that defence splitting pass of the blame, probably once more, to Andy Carroll. However, this style of blame does not suit the former Newcastle striker, and feels that this new style of blaming will give him limited blame time.

The ESPN rumour sites reporting Spur is going to steal Sterling for 7M again... I am SICK of this kind of rumours... {Ed002's Note - This is a rumours site. If it makes you feel unwell perhaps you need to use another site - perhaps tinyurl.com/5mtqs would be appropriate right now.}

There is no chance of Sterling joining Tottenhm. Why do people believe every rumour they read ?

Haha ED002. Where do you find this stuff? Air sickness bags?

Levans {Ed002's Note - I was a collector at one time.}

No chance, especially given that he's already cup tied in Europe. {Ed002's Note - He is not cup tied.}

Reina IS leaving - There are two offers on the table from Spanish clubs - Source not 100% who, but believes Malaga to be one of them - He has told Rogers he wants to return to Spain and he is happy to let him go - Three keepers under consideration, Butland (asking price will be the problem), Krull and Federici (altho he has just signed a new contract ar Reading).

{Ed002's Note - Malaga is probably not doing too much in the market right now due to ownership issues.}

Why would the asking price be a prblem for Butland ? If Reina was to leave i'd expect a fee of £20+ million

Malaga won't be buyin a anyone at the moment, especially for 15-20m and Butland would cost no more than 5m... I think your source needs to do his homework

just thought id throw this stat into the mix - last season swansea had the worst pass completion rate in the last third of the pitch. bit of a BR bash i know but based on last nights efforts im not holding my breath for success under br, his signings bemuse me and his tactics dont work with the squad we have and he has no plan b. id bet my morgage we dont qualify for europethis season......slate away.

Last season Liverpool created more chances from open play than Manchester United, Manchester City and Spurs, we had more corners than any other team and conceded fewer shots than any other team.

We spent close to £60m last summer and after all that finished just 5-points ahead of Swansea. If Rodgers was able to spend that money at Swansea on better attackers do you think their pass rate in the final third would have been higher.

People like you want the manager to fail and are looking for any crumb of evidence to support you. You say his signings bemuse you, he has only signed one player!

We have no Plan B? tell me what Manchester City and United do for a plan b? Or Spain or Barcelona? Do they 'bring on the big man' and lump it forward or do they try and pass their way through?

Half the players who played last night only joined up with the squad at the end of last month and have had no-time to work with Rodgers yet, including travelling etc. It was effectively a pre-season friendly. Grow-up.

JRG

I would be pleasantly surprised if we got champions league (ie finished top four). Hope i am wrong about that. Would be very surprised if we didn't get Europe league though. Redevon

The last third, so that could be because they were shooting or crossing instead?

And even though though they had the fewest passes in the final third they only scored 3-goals less than us, with our £57m strike-force.

JRG

Rodgers has already said it's going to take time and it will there's no chance were going jump from were we finished last year to a champions league spot in one season so get used to it get real. Listen to the managers statements and understand Liverpool are in transition John Henry has even come out and said no pressure to finish in top for because it's unrealistic our knowledgeable fans are getting thicker and thicker be patient and support the manager and team that's what's needed

Pass completion in your own half is easier because there are more of you then the opponent. With better players upfront you hope we would improve on Swansea.

So we are in transition and John Henry has already excused Brendan from making the cut this season? So why did he sack Kenny for not making Champions League, were we not in transition last year too?

Jay {Ed002's Note - I have explained on a number of occasions that there were two reasons for the sacking of Dalglish, one of which was that teh on field results were not what was promised, nor expected, particularly given the extensive spending and rebuilding.}

Every day I see BR, I think of Kenny Dalglish...I will really miss him...We played the best football since I have been a Liverpool fan...At times it was just mesmerising to watch the team play...They indeed battered teams sometimes...

As far as BR is concerned, he should be careful what he wants to do with this team....He shouldnt change the style too much....Our progression to more of a Tiki Taka and positioning conscious football must be gradual and not sudden....

As Liverpool manager we will be fully behind the team....Ideally he should benefit from the experience of Henderson, Adams, Downing and Carroll(if not sold) as all of the mentioned players will be wiser and more accepting of the demands and expectations placed on them by supporters....But still he needs to be careful...

He will have all our support unlike Hodgson...I always feel that Liverpool supporters never really warmed up to him....Neither did I

LiverBird

Pass completion rate in the final third is a stat that would naturally be better for counter-attacking clubs, who make few passes in the final third but usually have a lot of space to make them, and attacking clubs, who force their opponent behind the ball and have little space in the final third, though they make a lot of passes in it

Well at least we did win but it was very poor and there were some very poor performances by certain individuals especially Henderson, what does he bring to the team and please dont say he is only young.

Hes only young ;)

Everyone talks about Big Andy Carroll and 35 Million. He's got a role in the team atleast. What exactly does henderson do?

Think there is some henderson bashing going on here, from last nights performance there were far worse performers including Stevie.

I know we don't have a full squad and it's early on but we really don't look comfortable v Gomel. Can't press high enough and we dont seem to be able to keep posession unless it's in our own half. No creativity with cole and downing and sterling needs more experience we need Lucas fit, Suarez back and IMO Allen, Dempsey and ramirez! And we need a plan b. if teams sit back like today and defend then we need carrol who can offer something more and upset defenders!

Still 3 weeks left in the window!

Redjay

If you ask swansea supporters they will tell you the very same.....no plan b. we need to keep AC for that if nothing else

Your 100% right even barca are looking into lorrente it gives teams that air of unpredictable'ness. everone nose that when playing barca sit back a stay tight and beat them on set plays an on the counter. i keep saying like barca because liverpool want to play like barca but even with there top quality squad they still could not relie on there style of play an maybe next year will be lookin for that big cf that can offer a plan b. i agree with you keep carrol for a plan b an im sure with suarez an hopefully ramerez we will have creativity and with hopefully alan we can have an out an out pass master releasing gerrard to play where we would play dempsy like when we had alonso an played gerrard off torres so i dont see clint as a good addition to the squad. cant wait for next season

adamlfc

You have to remember FC Gomel are 17 games into their season! Miles ahead of Liverpool in fitness and sharpness! I wouldn't judge anything on tonight's game other than a competitive pre season friendly!

RR!

Patience is a virtue

Downing has Scored. Can't ask more than that.

Not a good assessment mate

No offense mate but you justified an answer towards your own criticism...don't quite see the point of you making the comment.

"Spearing gives the ball away" 2nd half, Gomel almost score, how many times before we get rid?

Im a little tired of the plan B argument regarding Carroll. We paid £35mil for him and could get £20mil back so it doesn't make financial sense to keep him on the bench for the odd game where we cant break teams down.

Also, Andy complained a lot last season about not getting a run of games and sitting on the bench so we do people think hes gonna be fine with it this season?

IMO, we should sell him and use it to reinvest in players how can play to Brendan's style

Am begining to think its same s*** different manager, jesus this crew have never progressed passed this round before and we are making them look like barca,we have reverted to the long ball already and the big man is left at home, not good brendan, not good at all

Exactly, you know we don't have a full squad, you know it's early on. You know Rodgers is trying to employ a certain way of playing and players need time. So why don't you give the team a bit of time.

Cheers Ed's.
TommyB

This is very true due to the new manager

Guys are you serious?! It's br's first competive game. Still per season really! Rome wasn't built in a day. Patience!

Jarred

Or a ball playing big man like crouch lol

The argument that the way to beat Barca is by sitting back is laughable. Chelsea succeeded by shear dumb luck and would only win twice out of ten against Barca playing that way. All the great teams play possession football. How successful were England playing without the ball in the euros? and which national team and which club team are the best in the world? Liverpool must strive to dominate teams and not play hopeful football in order to be the best again. So all you naysayers give Brendan a break and be patient. Will it work out? I don't know but he has the right ideas. Having lots of players he hasn't chosen doesn't help him either. And judging him so early on is ludicrous he will need at least two years in the job which is why Dalglish should have been given more time too.

Am I the only one hoping team GB goes out next round so we can get Allen and Bellamy?

I'm beginning to sense that BR's is going to be the shortest manager's honeymoon period in the history of football. the first league game we lose and so called supporters will call for his head! For God's sake let's see how things are after a few months not a few days.

How can you make these assessments based on a Europa
Eagle qualifier in pre season. Give the manager and the players a break. Never mind the team, I think some supporters need to look at their performance!

Rome wasn't built in a day but the titanic took years and that still sank

Very good point in that Carroll does give us a plan B, but still passing football is the way forward, and AC, IMO is a last resort.

No one yet really knows for sure who is in line to replace AC, the majority of Liverpool fans are intelligent and will understand that BR has also got a certain degree of intelligence and a footballing brain. There are obvious problems with the team and I'm sure if it's obvious to me and all of you then it's obvious to him too. Give him a chance to bring in a few players and get rid of a few. On the up side the next three weeks will be busy if Brendan sees what we all see ynwa and fair play to the lads tonight not the best performance but a win all the same
Lucky the red

Whoever made the original post should be locked away. What an absolute person.

The way you are speaking you should be a manager. For gods sake give them a chance, remember who is to come back or come in. Reina,Suarez just to name 2. Once the match fitness and sharpness is back and with possibly one or 2 new signings things look bright. We are not going to attract top level players without champions league football. Building from the bottom up and that is exactly what BR is doing. Younger players being bought in looking to the future, not the here and now. Lets get behind the team and manager and see what happens.

Please get a grip......

Hi I made the original post and I know it's very early in the season and I think BR will be a good manager it's just disheartening watching Gomel outplay us! Surely the quality we have can pass the ball better than Gomel! I don't expect change over night and like any good fan I will give BR My full support. I know we don't know everything behind the scenes but how does selling carrol make sense! His wages are not high and he has played well end of the season and over the euros. Surely we will get the same money next year if he can't fit?

Anyway just the result that matters and I'm glad for Downing he needed a goal!

Thanks for the input guys

Redjay

I just can seem to make up my mind on the AC case. I really liked what i saw of him in the end of last season and i euros.he is so strong that they need 2 players on him, making more space for others. But some have to go, for us to get some in, and i have had my eyes on ramirez i tiny bit, and he looks like gold at the moment.

Did ya ever heard that saying " liverpool supporters r the best in the world " they always support the players and manager? GOD , gomel r wf/17 games into thre season, we have travelled around the world, then fly gomel, minus: Riena, Suarez, Bellamy, Carroll?, lucas is returning from injury, glen had his 1st 45 minutes, borrinni was making his competitive debut, raheem was playing in europe, we are still in pre-season! Oh yeah it was the managers 1st competitive game, his 1st in europe, we won the game, had a clean sheet, signings are expected! To me, all the signs are looking good! So let's all get behind the team and brendan! Things might be bad at times, but with patience and a lot of support, we will return to. The toip! Come on redmen, the main priority is on saturday 18th August, and a certain west brom, that will be organised by steve clarke Y..N..WmA
DHH L20 KOPITE

Carroll wont be happy sitting on the bench, but we do need a plan B, i'd let Carroll go and bring back Peter Crouch, we'd get him for around £3-4m I reckon and he'd sit on the bench to get a contract here

It makes sense because we could use say £20M from a sale of AC to buy a player who will be in the first 11 and have an impact to plan A rather than leaving an increasingly unhappy £20M asset on the bench as a 'possible, maybe' plan B.

Sell or keep AC, whatever the manager wants . But it does trouble me that he says one thing at a club news conference, saying Carroll is happy, and can play in the system he wants, and that he has no intension of pushing arroll out. Then spends the next week doing the exact opposite. Shows a lack of respect for the fans he is talking to, a for the players involved.

Then again no surprise, he said he had an agreement not to buy players from Swansea, then if this site is to be believed, he is bidding on most of their team. rasone

And what gives u the impression that Andy Carroll is happy to be a plan B? £35 mil for a plan B, makes great financial sense. Glad ur not running the club.

I for one am fed up of all this negativity surrounding our great club! We haven't been challenging for the title for years and we have tried a few things to get us back there! Now let's give BR a chance and by a chance I mean get behind this bloke for the next 3 seasons at least without worrying about what we are putting the trophy cabinet or not! Why does everyone want instant success! I hate to say it being a Liverpool supporter through an through but look at Fergie, one of the greatest managers in our lifetime and it took him 5 years to get it right and before you all say different era blah blah blah, it's the same principle! This LFC we need to back the manager and the players and SUPPORT the club after all we are SUPPORTERS!!!

Get a grip everyone, the future is bright, youngsters looking good, potential signings are looking good and Downing scored and played like his £17million price tag!

EDs I would love your view on this one please, sorry know it's late!

Plan B??? The players havent even got their head around plan A. Its the first competitive game of the season. Wake up people. For those who are aware, it takes time for players to get you're head around a new game plan and style of play. I really cant believe fans are already worried. Show some faith in Rodgers and the boys

Rumba

Spot on mate. Couldn't of said it better myself

Completely agree. There's 17 days until the season starts, and we've got some very good teams coming up early in the season. We need to finalise our transfers asap.

Apart from the obvious ie before the season has even started etc etc this is nothing like the team Brendan Rodgers will be using this coming season.
I think we will have a new goalkeeper (who will be keen to show his ability) Carragher will finally hang his boots up,
we will have Allen and Dempsey, who are both improvements on what we have..I think too there will be at least two additional players coming in
Last night's team bears no resemblance to the team we will have out at the end of the month

Puzzled

We are extremely light weight up front.

Using Carrol as 1 of the front 3 makes sense to me. BR is giving out mixed messages i.e Carrol available for loan, carroll can play my style, Carroll available at the right price. BR needs to sort his head out

As more and more senior players have been returning to the first team, we seem to be moving further away from the BR style of football we saw in the first game against Toronto (albeit against weaker opposition so easy to keep the ball moving with less pressure)

It's is harder to teach an old dog new tricks -

The most important principle the BR style / tika-taka / Barca system is based on (even more important than ball retention - short passing - winning the ball back quickie etc) being able to put through a ball in between and beyond the opposition back four and any one of the front three or midfielders getting on to this ball or one the players able to run at and beat one of the defenders to get a chance on goal

It is actually very basic and obvious but is dependent on the quality of the ball that can pierce a back four and the ability of an attacker to beat the offside trap and find the space on between two defenders
(just watch a collection of barca's goals under Pep)

The academy have been playing this way for much longer

It will take at least 6-12 months before the senior players can adapt

Lean Red

Unfortunately it's turning out as I feared, I've been saying to everyone I know how impressed I was with the way the youngsters played but I was concerned with how the older more established players would adapt. I had a bad feeling they would struggle.

It is very hard to judge players from watching a game on TV. The camera follows the ball and misses so much of the work that players do off the ball.
I remember a game where Stevie Mac played a blinder, pulling opposition players all over the park making space for his team mates.... but the tv audience gave God the MOM award.

From TV coverage you can only get a superficial idea of who is playing well / working hard for the team.

People should not be as quick to criticize players unless they are at the game.

I am posing this question out of real interest.
How many supporters on here, supported LFC when the club last won the league (old Division 1).
Agree = was a supporter.
Disagree = not a supporter.

Interested to see the results.
Nuff said.

I have been supporter since 1967, when I was 13, from Sweden

I had been a Boys Pen/Kopite for 6 years when we won the FA Cup for the first time ( does that count? )- and things were worse then trying to get tickets, never missed a home or away game all season and I couldn't get a ticket. What a great time that was - up to 28,000 fans on the Kop alone, and believe me in the seasons from Div 2, and Shankly arriving - you very very rarely heard any criticism of any player, and one thing you never heard was the home crowd booing one of their own players - something, sadly that you hear on a regular basis nowadays, remembering we went 7 years without under Shanks.

I've been a supporter since 1978/79 when I was 4 years old. I'll be a supporter for the rest of my days too, come rain or shine.

I was 5 years old when they sold Keagan, I cried... Then we bought Kenny...:o)

Whats the point of asking this question? i was born in 1985 in India. started to watch football since 1998, loved liverpool ever since, missed dates and got dumped for liverpool.

have not seen them win the league yet, but does that make me less of a fan for u.

the new generation of REDS fan is not far away from u to share ur experience soon.

My 1st game was Bristol City at home 1977, we won 1-0, terrible game and I couldnt feel my legs as I had to sit on a crash barrier, you had to get in the ground at 1pm to get one of these, so nearly 4 hours on it! There has always been in my time going certain players getting stick, maybe it is worse recently, but with the football getting the coverage nowadays and pundits and press giving players stick all the time , isn't it any wonder. To be fair it isnt the younger generation who were giving most of the stick at the ground, I was in front of a group of men who were at least in their fifties, who were giving all the players unbelievable abuse from start to finish, not just in 1 game but every game!It seems that people go sometimes just to slag off the players, not to support!

I have been going since 1959 and love the club , been through the bad times and the good i am so lucky to be a red , red mick tag

The fans did not boo the players when skanks was manager but we had a method of showing what we thought when things were bad that was the slow hand clap as i said earlier i am so lucky to be a red , started going when we were in the second division , was there when we nearly went up and ipswich did , ipswich won the first division the next year and we won the second division , next year we got beat in the fa cup semi final against leicester and the following year we won the league and started the road to the top where we still are even if people do not think so , i love lfc because i have shared my life with them . red mick tag. ynwa

In Australia the Division 1 highlights show would be on the ABC and when my dad told me there was an Aussie (Craig Johnston) playing for Liverpool i started following them with a passion..... i was 7 or 8 years old.

It totally changed the control of the game when Lucas came on.

I know that when Lucas came on, it was at the same time as the goal was scored and the commentators put the change down to the goal itself, but I believe it was Lucas' involvement.

He linked up between the Liverpool defenders and midfielders which was what we were missing prior to him coming on.

Lucas is the reason why we stopped playing the ball long, or into dead channels and I believe his injury was a major turning point last season too.

I hope he stays fit this season. Lucas, Gerrard and Allen (if he signs) could be a great combo.

Lucas is Boss. Future captain. {Ed002's Note - "Boss"? Like, "That's a boss set of wheels on your Firebird."}

I watched Joe Allen at the Olympics and I cannot believe Bredan rodgers is stupid enough to pay £15m on him! He's an average player and the only reason he has a 91% pass success rate is because he only plays passes to the defenders And Liverpool have plenty of s*** players to do that (Spearing Henderson). So if we really have 15M to buy a new player I cannot believe we are not spending it on something we really lack (Winger/Goal scoring striker) did the club not learn we shouldn't be paying ridicuolous amounts of money for below average British payers( Henderson Dowing Carroll Adam) which came to about 100MILLION!!!

Your an ass.

Allen is brilliant, and if you really did watch him at the Olympics, you would see that.

hi eds are we likely to get isco from malaga {Ed002's Note - There has been some speculation from the African press about "interest" in Atsu but there is nothing to suggest any confirmation of it. It strikes me as unlikely with his only experience being in the second tier of Potuguese football.}

Pretty sure he asked about isco {Ed002's Note - Well spotted. Barcelona have shown some interest in Isco but I am not so sure Malaga would want to sell particularly whilst their ownership is up in the air. There are some rumours of Real Madrid being interested as well.}

hello eds and reds just want to chat about brendan i think he seems to have a flaw we have players that suit a more direct approach and i no he sticks to his beliefs but for me results are more important than style of play there is no 1 way to play i think good managers can get right approach with the players he has players like carra,gerrard,adam,caroll are players that suit this approach i believe caroll is a goal scorer this is why i think we should keep him playing to these players strengths would only benefit liverpool,thanks kyle {Ed013's Note - Give him time mate}

Im so sick of people constantly whinging about Brendan Rodgers just wait and see how the season goes yeah.

We'll know by Christmas

We're not whinging about him...it's just that he's like an chap that knocks on your door and offers to tarmac your driveway for £200.....he says all the right things, but you aren't really convnced and you certainly don't trust him yet!

If anyone knocks on your door offering to tarmac your drive - say no

So Fenrebache have signed Krasic for 7 million euro. Makes me wonder why we didn't take a punt on him at that price?

Take a punt? With 7 million of the club's money you would like to 'take a punt'? Best to leave the business side of things to the experts mate

cozinoz

Lack of funds!.

They would of charged us way more plus I think he is rubbish

Ronillz

We can't buy every player. And the fact that he's gone to Fenerbache tells you everything.

Kev.

Maybe buck did not think he is good enough ! ant

First win under BR, Carra's 700th game and a clean sheet, job done. I did like BR's post match comments, he admits there is still work to do and admitted that additions are required to complete the squad. I do appreciate the way he handles the media and his show of gratitude towards the people of Belarus displayed elements of humility and class which is what we need as a manager. No offence to Kenny (who has always been my all time Liverpool hero and still will be) but the relationship between the club and the media last year was at an all time low, which probably goes someway to explain a lot of the negative press we received.
This is year one in a new project so although it is difficult to accept, patience is required this year.

All this talk about Agger leaving but why hasn't Reina played yet?? Also think andy should stay till atleast January

Reina only came back from his break on Tuesday that's why he hasn't played ....Steve

Also maybe putting Jones in the window for a potential buyer? He did well yday tbh, aside from a lack of conviction in his communication once or twice.

hi great site, can you tell me when suarez is due back to meet up with the squad? looking forward to seeing him link up with borini, really hope carroll stays he gives us another option which is always good to have. hope sterling his given his chance to, he is our answer to a winger on the left not sinclair.

Hopefully soon. Presumable within the week? Him and Coates weren't at the Euros, BR said that this will be their pre-season. I assume they've come in this week or start of next week. Suarez to start at Anfield against Gomel?

I understand constructive critism and I have some reservations myself but people need to put them accross in a better fashion and stop with all this impending doom nonsense and disrespecting a very humble man that is BR. I have been the first in the last to criticise Chelsea and Manc glory supporters but I can't do this a anymore as there are a few to many people in our camp with similar attributes

Well said mate it's cringe worthy and embarrassing. It's like people get joy out of constant criticising.

panic not fellow supporters

we have much work still to do in the transfer window and by the look on BR face i bet he's demanding movement from the owners.

But are the owners on the same page at all.
We are now in August, loads of speculation but only one new addition and two out.

every bleedin day we are linked to another 2 players for the last month. We are only short of about 3 good signings attacking options is the key thats where we were let down last season, I think Ramirez on the left Allen in middle and Dempsey in the attacking three would sort us out, Get rid of dead wood then Spearing, Aqua and Adam etc and I think we will be sorted....

does anyone else think we are waiting for bargains at the end of the transfer window?

i m expecting a flurry of activity near the very end ofthe window with carroll going out at the last minute

tom1975

Absolutely mate we have learned fom our lessons overspending early in the window like last season players agents do be trying there hardest to find buyers for there players come the end of the window 1 example would be van der vaart for spurs 8 mill bargain, kyle dublin

I can see this happening wiht clubs desperate to get in players and offload players before the end of the window

underwhelmed by tonights perfrmance ,i understandits early days and players arent fully fit but we were totally outplayed and could have been beaten by 3-4 goals. very evident was the lack of a link between midfield and attackand a serious dearth of qualityin the final third without luis, hoping rodgers can see this lack of quality in attacking areas o fthe pitch and address it before the season starts.

tom1975

We have 7 midfileders...but none apart from lucas and gerrard are good enough to be called midfielders........

That's why we need Allen and Dempsey. Allen to bring some hold up play in our midfield and Dempsey for creativity and attacking impetus. Absolutely shocking midfield. To think a few years ago we had Alonso, Mascherano and Gerrard in CM. Now we have Spearing, Henderson and Shelvey. Shocking
