We're going to murder Arsenal this week!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Easy to get carried away, but let's keep expectations real. Win, lose or draw, we are still a work in progress. It's still too early in the season - so many permutations and outcomes can still happen

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely we can't be a work in progress? {Ed002's Note - I think he means that Liverpool are in to the fourth year of a 15 year period of transition.}

Agree0 Disagree0

This is only Rodgers second season; we have a very young team, our first 11 has only been playing together for 3 months (even this was stop-start with injuries and suspensions). We don't have the squad strength of the chevs, mancs and spuds, who have been building over 2 - 3 seasons. If we are not work-in-progress, you mean we are the complete package ready to challenge for the title? I'll be more than happy to be proved wrong but I'm not so sure

Singred.
What rubbish. we don't have this. we don't have that. what the hell were we doing with the money pumped in?. we need results this years. simple as that. You are just an Excuse of Excuse

Agree0 Disagree0

^^ no idea what you're talking about. I was just stating my opinion to keep expectations real, and it takes time to build a squad that can mount a challenge for the title. You seem to think it's easier said than done.

Agree0 Disagree0

The point being Singred is that Liverpool have spent enough more over the last 20 odd years to mount numerous title challenges and only really mounted 2 or 3. Also when you are spending £40/60 million a year you don't get the chance to be a "work in progress"

23 years and counting. how much we should expect this year?. 6 th place finish with 5 points increase from previous campaign?

Agree0 Disagree0

Best strikers in the league class keeper at the back nice quality all over and belief we could go all the way

Agree0 Disagree0

Point taken, Rover. It's nice to have meaningful discussion and exchange views without the abusive insults and rude comments with fellow supporters, unlike some hairy blokes

ssn with an article named "Title Talk", and below is a quote from the article.

"Brendan Rodgers believes the form of strikers Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge can fire Liverpool towards the Premier League title".

Unless I have missed something Rodgers has not mentioned anything regarding winning the title. This is more made up nonsense from the media which will only heap pressure on the team.

We need to all keep our feet on the ground as saturday will be a big test. If we can beat Arsenal then anything is possible but I don't want everyone getting too carried away putting too much pressure on the team. We know from last season that it is best to do our talking on the pitch rather than building ourselves up only to fall.

''Red'', we are a big club who have spent big recently, competing against big clubs who have spent big recently, pressure comes with the territory!I imagine Arsenal will be under much more pressure then us come Saturday and hopefully we can take advantage, but as you rightly point out, all we can do is let our feet do the talking, fortunately our feet have got a lot to say at the moment, we are in a good place and away wins is what its all about, ''bring em on''!

Agree0 Disagree0

It is also important to remember that the game on Saturday will not define our season. A win will not automatically make us title contenders, just as a loss will not mean we are not top 4 material. We must maintain some perspective regardless of the result. Get ready Eds!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ssn have renamed the article "More to come"

And the opening paragraph has now changed to "Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool still have room for improvement following their impressive start to the Premier League season".

I wonder if they received a phone call of complaint.

Evening eds,
Now I know we are a long way off January, but I'm sure targets are already being looked at, but surely targets may change dependant on where we sit in the table.some might say we are over achieving at the moment, I personally don't think we are, I think we are there because we are genuine top 4 contenders this season, but my question is this, if we are still sat in the top 4 after Xmas, do you think the owners will back Rodgers to go out and buy 1/2 big name players to give us a chance of really pushing on or was the big spending done in the summer, and maybe younger cheaper squad players will be looked at? I know a lot will depend on outgoing players etc.
cheers {Ed002's Note - Targets will not likely change because of where Liverpool are in the table but whether or not they can be purchased. Much will also depend on anyone leaving.}

Hello again Eds. Will Liverpool make a strong attempt and win the Premier league and buy quality players in January? {Ed002's Note - I would expect Liverpool to add a couple of players in January. I would think they will have a better season than they have had in recent years but I will stick with my thought that they will be looking to fight it out over the lower league positions that qualify for European competition.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Whys that ed? Also how good have your predictions been before? Haha hope it isn't good!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fighting for lower league positions? What's that supposed to mean the hatred and jealousy shown at times towards Liverpool from ed02 is pathetic. {Ed002's Note - Thank you for sharing your pig ignorance - the words read "lower league positions that qualify for European competition" - that would be fourth and fifth. You are an embarrassment to both the other fans and the educational system.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha ed, brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

If anybody wonders about Ed02's reluctance to have discussions about stuff like this then look no further then keats comment. I would be in agreement with you ed and I a 4th, 5th place finish will be enough to appease me anyway.

I was feeling pretty confident until Brendan began saying 'we are in a good place. ' Why is it that whenever managers say something, fate kicks the whole team in the teeth. Hope I am wrong!
It is time we saw how strong we are and can we cope and compete with our big rivals!

Looking forward to game (a little scared, though)
P.S. I live in London and the Banter I'll be getting or dishing out is going to be immense. So, come on Red men, YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought his answer to the question "Are you title contenders this year?" was fine. Far to early this season to even suggest we are title contenders at this point. We are in a "good place", third place. It's realistic to leave it at that. What response would make you feel more confident. "No, we aren't contenders" or "Yes, of course, we are contending for the title this year." I'm not getting ahead of myself personally in my expectations. We are improving and currently in a good position, that's good enough for me at the moment.

Game will be a cracker no doubt, hopefully we'll get all the bragging rights this time around ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that it was a good response from Rodgers. Best not to get too carried away :-)

So we have had a good start nd been consistent. consistency is the key in the pl . but the fact is in terms of quality we are still miles behind the likes of Chelsea, Dortmund, Bayern, Madrid and barca.

We are better than we been in 3 yrs . we can be the best in the world with the players we have. we need to fix a few things up for that.

Firstly we don't play Tiki-taka anymore. we play a fast pacey fluent passing game which is better. but is this style of play and our performance good enough?. NOT AT ALL. we are missing the PRESSING GAME. its totally gone from our books. we sit back and hit on the break . Boring Hodgeson style sitback nd let attack rain game.

Im giving examples of 2 teams.1) Borrussia Dortmund . 2) Atletico Madrid .they play a high tempo pressing game . press and press is the key for them. nd look at the success both are having. are they overflooded with stars? NO. I believe we have far better players than Dortmund do. Brenda needs to add the high intensity 5 seconds ball back pressing game in our play. if we do that . we will be unstoppable.look at southampton for example. pocchettino has introduced this style to them and they are fourth and improving. I wnt be surprised if they finish top6. if we install that pressing play while in defence then we will be a force. nd with our defence I believe we will easily get away with that system.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we press a lot better with Henderson playing the number ten role like against West Brom. Also you say Chelsea but Mourinho as always played boring football wherever he as been.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have better players than dortmund?seriously how did you come up with that

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought West Brom showed us playing a more pressing game and we are also becoming more consistent in our league results (see stats since January). All the teams you listed have CL, so of course they can attract more quality players to fit their playing style. They consistently qualify with consistent league results and consistently getting better players. We'll get there again. Takes time man, but like you said we are better than we've been in 3 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is that you Harry ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Just because a style of play works for Barcelona and Dortmund, doesn't mean it will automatically work everywhere else.
Barcelona showed last year that they rely heavily on Messi. When Messi plays, all is well. But when Messi got injured, their CL run spectacularly fell apart at the hands of Munich.
The worst thing you can be with tactics is predictable. If you are predictable then you are vulnerable.

Agree0 Disagree0

You mean spectacularly fell at the hands of the best club team in the world.

Although Iturbe is on loan I do hope we could snap him up at some point soon also I hate to say it but I wish Suso was still at LFC and not on loan as he is really playing well, and would be a threat with his creativity and passing brilliance. Aspas hope you come back strong just keep fight for the club i'm sure fans like myself appreciate that kinda spirit.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think that it's more important for Suso to get a lot of game time, than if he stayed with us for the season only playing off the bench. It's great that he is playing well - next season we will be much better off due to his increased experience. Just my opinion.

Hope Agger will be given a match Saturday.
It would be great if the 3 CB has great experience: Agger, Toure, Skrtel. Really hope we win!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What as Sakho done wrong?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Daniel.

Agger's experience against top premier league sides is a great advantage. Nothing against Sakho. I think he is improving all the time and looks to be settling in more.

Congrats to FSG with Boston Red Sox winning the world series last night. The first time since 1918 that they have done so on home soil.

Now let's hope they continue to show the same dedication to LFC and we can follow suit by winning long awaited silverware this season.

did they not win it a few years ago I thought they did maybe i'm wrong I don't know much about baseball but I definitely seen tom werner saying something about it in an interview on lfc tv. {Ed002's Note - I suspect his point was about "home soil" (actually dirt) as they were away from home when they won the final games in 2004 and 2007.}

cheers ed I suppose it would help if I took time to read the post right.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely this is a good indication that, along with the ladies team winning their league and the investment in the team so far, the owners are serious about doing well and not just here to make money as a few suggest.

Agree0 Disagree0

What the owners have done in boston is show you don't need the highest wage bill or the most expensive players unlike the dodgers and yankees and that on paper the best team doesn't always win Detroit the dodgers have bigger name players but the team spirit was amazing and carried them through and with the tragedy that happened at the boston marathon it felt like it was meant to be congrats to the bo sox and fsg {Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the Boston Marathon - give us a break from the flakiness. Are you over the Boston Tea Party yet?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes giblet, I remember reading somewhere earlier this week when the red sox were 3-1 up needing 1 more win to win series that they felt like it would be a great tribute to the Boston bombing victims/survivors/families, so yes I agree maybe it give that little extra incentive to win it. Similar maybe to Hillsborough when we won the FA cup.

Tommy, check out the Dropkick Murphy's performance before the game. It's on youtube. I love that the Red Sox bring in a Celtic punk band to get the crowd fired up. Shipping up to Boston to find my wooden leg!
