went to the game tonight and have got to applaud swansea they were absolutely superb! your all calling our lads but i think your being a little disrespectful to the team that won... the pace in which they broke was frightening never a misplaced pass and runners all over the place. i think you should take the opposition into account, they would give anybody a game and thats no joke! if rodgers has us playing like that in time to come i will be a happy man

Nice one mate, Swansea would have given anyone a run tonight, too much disrespect going their way on these pages they deserve some credit for their performance.

If Rodgers gets us playing like that I'd be happy too ...in time he might, but I personally don't think with the personnel currently at his disposal that he ever will.

Totally agree . was also at the game, and when we start playing that way naturally we will be quality. because even tho they beat us we've got much better players than them when at full strength. Feels like we are trying to force that style of play too much at the moment, but i suppose thats what will have to happen until it clicks.. Thought Coates was very impressive again tonight

Adam

Wont improve a team without improving management fact you dont get rid of bellamy kuytt carrol without options in mind pigheaded arrogance cant deal with older pros who now hes talking rubish with his envelopes wont finish in top 8 with toothless approach cant play with any type of player that not in his blueprint 1 dimentional way

Na performance tonight we offered nothing, the last Swansea goal was done with zero effort because we didn't even look interested they might as well of walked it in.

I think tonight has shown why a lot of the players that played are squad players, very poor.

But we can't just criticise players when fans where appalling, was at the game tonight and for most of the game anfield was like a library apart from the Swansea lot! The off couple of people singing and the rest of the fans just look at them like they are stupid.
You can't expect the team to give everything for you when you offer nothing in return, shocking!

Bring on Newcastle anyway, new game new start.

i notice on this site more and more the lack of respect of liverpool football club by so called fans, so im going to say this, we thrived when other teams wer doing the same thing so maybe if our fanbase is as doom and gloom now besides getting behind ther team maybe we are getting the results we deserve long gone are the days we went to cheer on our "team" to get them to perform better. Know i put it to any liverpool supporter (True Liverpool supporter) when did u hear a groan if we kept a ball beyond 10 passes in years gone by. Another thing how many average players played in our great teams that we supported hoping they'd get better. my point is this if the fans have a mediocrity before going in to Anfield then the team is allways under scrutiny, put any team in a cauldron like that(let alone this young liverool team) and weve seen what happens. We i mean Liverpool but the fans are getting detached day by day. Because the football is prob better than it has been for a while but we want everything to happen too fast, and u know bout the fella that came too fast. Liverpool FC is based on Firstly loyal support 2ndly Trust in what we are trying to acheive and 3rdly Heart felt support for everyone in the club.
While i understand the urgency for results i really think the legiancy is to our club LFC.

In what position do you think we will be putting on top of the target list in January to strengthen? Also do you reckon think Rodgers will already have some players in mind for January transfer window?

I hate to say it but I can see us getting Harry Redknapp in before too long.

I just vomited in my mouth.

Kenmy got us to wembley twice ( 2 times if you count the semi with everton) in his first season, winning one cup and only just losing the fa cup even though a good goal was disallowed. He gave us hope.

Ok he made a few mistakes but he gave us hope, he made us dream.

We have nothing now, no desire and no dreams.

Without doubt the worst performance by our team in many many years.

I will support BR because we have to, there is no other option, there is no choice. I pray his footballing managerial skills are are as good as his undoubted PR skills.

This result could be a turning point for the fans, but we will see how they respond.

In the meantime lets get behind our team as best we can.

I'd never want to disrespect Kenny Dalglish, and i'm aware that he got us to two cup finals, but he also blew the chance to have us actually competing. We had the opportunity to sign a £35m striker, and he went for our Andy! And whilst I don't rate Andy as low as some people do, £35m? Seriously? He spent near £20m on Downing, and £16ishm on Hendo, and then got Charlie Adam! I am not complaining about the amount spent, because i know about net spend blah blah blah and that it wasn't that much, but if you buy in £80m worth of players he could have done much better than that! and I know this may seem incredibly unrelated, but you say he gave us hope and something to dream for - the way I see it his and DC's spending has seriously set us back! You say we have no hope now, have you seen the list of young talent coming through? We currently have the best U21 team in the EPL, lads like Suso, Sterling and Wisdom already playing in the first team, and a whole host of young players yet to break through. They have been playing together for a few seasons now, which means we have a ready made backbone for our future team. With so many really good young players coming through, we can concentrate our spending on filling in the gaps with absolute class. If that isn't hope I don't know what is.

You know that little heard of team Barcelona? The majority of their current players are products of their academy. Rodolfo Borrell is without a doubt one of the best academy coaches in the world, and can do the same for us. It's not going to happen over night by any means, but if you think we have no hope you are sorely mistaken

I would say wasting 80 million on some awful players is more than a few minor mistakes.

Kenny had 18 months in charge, had over 120 million to spend and we just about managed to beat Cardiff on penalties to win a competition that nobody cares about,

What dreams are you talking about? It was more like a nightmare under Kenny. One of the reasons Rodgers is struggling startin off is because he's inherited a team full of average players thanks to Kennys crazy transfers

Rafa , rafa, rafa ole ,ole he showed us how to play we even played in big games against real , barca and juve . red mick tag

31 Oct 2012 23:24:32
I would like to say sell the likes of downing, henderson, cole etc. but by doing this we are just slimming down our already bare bones squad even more, and knowing our current owners we probably wont even get replacements in. Personally I think we should buy one good quality striker costing around the 15m mark and then another winger, similar to the assaidi deal (cheap unknown gem), and keep the 3 mentioned at the start as squad players to make up numbers. then in summer (with more time and usually more activity) we can shift the dead wood along with spearing and carroll and use that plus hopefully some owner funding, to really go out and build the squad rodgers wants. Next season will be out year!

Jay

All we ever ask for is more money every season! isnt it time we put the players we have to good use? isnt that what a manager doe's? plenty of teams in the pl that dont spend half as much as we do,just makes us sound stupid and pathetic.

Small club mentality that is you should be ashamed.

Not really a small club mentality. I am still gutted we lost, just happy that atleast some of our rivals were went down with us

31 Oct 2012 23:17:13
This site is honestly one of the weirdest sites I have ever seen. Honestly, we win one game and all we hear is how we can beat anyone and its a great display. Then we lose a game and our team is rubbish. I'm 16 and I've got more maturity than most of you. Calm down, its one game where we had team with 7 starters under 24 years of age, in the league cup.
I mean of course it would have been great to win it again. But I seem to remember last year when we won it, it was a waste of time for most of you lot.

On to the game, I know we were outplayed, of course we were. Swansea have been playing 'tiki taka' for 3 years. Our defense still hasn't gotten used to it and that will only come with time. The best thing we can do as fans is go to Anfield week in week out and sing for the lads. If we don't we may as well support Bury FC.

For the team we learnt nothing we already didn't know. Cole and Downing play like headless chickens, Yesil and Robinson need more time, Lucas is needed to sure up the midfield and Suarez is on fire.

Personally I can't wait for the next game
Bring on Newcastle and next week

31 Oct 2012 23:13:05
The team selection looked okay. But the players are just not good enough and were played out of position. Why waste a whoping 15m on Allen when we badly needed some strikers. And 13m on Borini? What a joke. Still dont know why FSG backtracked on Director of Football role to oversea our recruitment strategy. These things would just keep happening if we dont sort the mess.

Each time we get any decent money to invest, we just blow it on ineffective duds and this is hurting us. Its so pathetic to think we now play kids week in week out as first teamers.

Go get me Hooper, Hemed and Mertens this January and we can sort the midfield in the summer. 17m Money from Carrol's sale and about 4m from owners should handle this. Players win games not endless talks and 180 page dossier on tiki taka:

This should be our squad in Jan.
Hooper
Suarez Hemed

Sahin

Allen Gerard

Enrique Skertel Agger Johnson

Reina

subs: Assaidi, Borini, Coates, Jones, Wisdom, Sterling, Shelvey and Suso. If Lucas is fit, he should sit out Gerard.

sell: Downing, Pacheco, Doni, Spearing, Joe Cole, Carrol, Henderson and retire Carrager.

17m for carroll, that's a good joke mate. and you bought mertens but he's not even on the bench? you'd make a great manager mate

01 Nov 2012 03:35:44
Anyone that wants us to sign gary hooper needs their head checking!

Go get u hooper hemed and mertens? U go sort ur fantasy football team out young man!

31 Oct 2012 23:07:32
With the starting lineup we had out vs the near 1st team Swansea fielded I think the result was ok. We are too threadbare to play in 4 competitions. I'm worried about overexposure of Sterling and Suso, Saurez and Gerrard. It was a good fixture for Robo, Yesil to gain experience in. Joe Cole has to go in January. His 90K a week is better off being spent on someone with an upside. The need for another senior striker is evident and a priority even though it's hard to get value in January, maybe Bafétimbi Gomis or Remy. Glad we're out in one sense if it means getting 3 points on Sunday and having a good 10 league games till the window opens. Obviously I'm aware the 2 things aren't related. Thought Hernandez and Michu looked very good tonight and shows that there is value in the market if you are prepared to take the risk. To all the BR assassins on here, you need to get a grip. It was always going to be a tough fixture against a club that probably has this as one of their major goals for their seasons. BR has been put in a pretty unattainable position at the end of the last window. His hands were tied but he has done nothing wrong so far in his LFC career. The positives are that he has given Wisdom, Suso, Sterling a chance along with a couple of other kids. He has played his best 2 Center Backs together and hasn't been afraid to make early sub changes to help the team. He also introduced a style of football that will take more than 30+ games to see the benefits of it. Swansea play a similar game to his style and he has said that it is difficult when a team that is used to playing that style plays you high up the pitch. He said that that is when you need to be able to play an intermediate pass into the gaps that were left by the high press. Lucas is a huge loss as he controls the tempo and breaks play up. No need to keep attacking players, management and ownership here after every bad result.

31 Oct 2012 23:07:31
Haha..some fans are so dumb, already calling for rodgers to be sacked..I really don't know the fantastic squad you gave rodgers to compete with..we only have a very good first 11,and the rest are really average...swansea played with their best team and they won.. Why act surprised like we have a very good second team..I was even upset suarez, gerrard and sterling were on the bench how many more games can they take before they start to get fatigued(especially stevie)..so cos of the capital one cup he should play our strongest eleven, for what reason??if this was the epl, then I would be worried..

31 Oct 2012 23:06:12
Let's take a breath here shall we. The squad is thin, BR put out a weak squad, Carra Cole, Downing etc. It is going to take a while for this team to clear out deadwood wages, such as above and get us to where we need to be. Don't forget this same club beat the leaders of the Russian League who will be in the CL next year. All this talk of Rodgers sending us to relegation is a bunch of crap, right now we are what we are, an inconsistent thin group capable of some really strong performances, and some equally poor. Tactically Rodgers is fine, he just doesn't have the squad to try and win everything.

The only disappointing thing for me is to look at the scouting that we have done. Last two games we have played featured two players, Michu and Kevin Mirallas. 2 players we were never even mentioned as interested in looking at. Not expensive relative to talent in leagues where teams were forced to sell because of financial considerations. Why we were not heavily going over rosters in Spain and Greece is beyond me. Given that they want value for money in transfer policy, we are really going to have to do a better job in scouting foreign leagues for bargains (Assaidi hopefully being an example). You could also throw Jelavic and Rangers in the same category last January.

I like what Rodgers is doing, and have faith that FSG will get transfer policy right over time. Keep the faith.

Mate we were linked to Mirallas on here a bunch as well as in lots of media and Michu isn't really any good anyway. I don't see your point.

Gerrards crossing is superb. Suarez has started to put a few in the net. We had our suspicious that Joe Cole is still sh*t confirmed. If we get a finisher the points will start to rack up. You are all acting like he threw out the first team.
Andrew

A two man team we are lets face it if Saurez or Gerrard don't score then nobody scores.

Firstly, I'd like to agree that we didn't play well today.

However, people calling for Rodgers' head need to understand the bigger picture. The league is the priority. It always has been. We have to utilise the squad when we get the chance and the problem is the squad isnt big enough. NOT RODGERS FAULT.

It is obvious there are players who are not good enough to wear the shirt for 1 reason or another (imo Cole, Downing, Pacheco, Spearing, Carroll, possibly Enrique)

But for now, in a season where everybody is turning on Liverpool, us fans need to get behind the club, the team and the manager. It is no good to anyone if we turn on them as well.

I like Rodgers, but as I have learn from previous managers, I will NOT judge him for a little while yet. It's important not to get too over-excited when we win, and not too down-in-the-dumps when we lose. With the size, age and quality of our squad, we cannot be expected to successfully play the way we want at the moment. I, like everybody else, hope and believe things will change.

Cup half full.

AZ

You do know we have 10 points from 9 games in the league don't you?

31 Oct 2012 22:51:43
If we are honest Joe allen was poor today anyway newcastle game is important we need to win in order to improve our league position before owners loose patience with rodgers. From now any defeat will hit us very hard and will be imposible to recover our league standings

Allens decent but overated

31 Oct 2012 22:49:48
what i saw today was our team passing the ball around for no reason, what is the point of this. i'd rather play passing on the ground but direct so we can actually try and score. Stupid and Ridiculous when you pass it around and not get anywhere.

Without gerrard and suarez we'd be destroyed by anyone.

Just like what Phil Jagelkia said hey

31 Oct 2012 22:48:42
Im fed up reading all these depressing posts after that loss which isnt really a big deal in my opinion. What is your favourite player outside of lfc, man u, man c, arsenal, chelsea, spurs. I would have to say Ben arfa from newcastle.

31 Oct 2012 23:24:50
Ah I like posts like this! Ashamed to say it as a detester of the chavs, but i'd take Mata right now, the lad is on fire! Also, Ben Arfa - good call!

Ya Mata is a gem of a player! But Suarez is the most enjoyable player to watch in the league, up there with Iniesta y Messi imho

31 Oct 2012 16:53:41
Eds and reds can you please help me understand something? I was reading Ed1's comments about Huntelaar not being able to cope with playing in a tougher league...is this because the EPL is more physical than other leagues? Or because of the quality of teams? As in any one team in the EPL can beat any other on their day? What I don't understand is if his team can play against Arsenal and win, and Huntelaar can score, why will it be so hard for him to do this surrounded by a team of players who are used to playing in the EPL? What is it about the EPL that makes it a tough league?

Apologies for being thick {Ed001's Note - better players, he struggles against better players on a consistent basis.}

31 Oct 2012 22:45:35
just got back from the game. We are so bad its worrying. We have to rely on the young lads due to the fact whether it was the board or FSG we have let players leave and then not allowed them to be replaced.

Are FSG driving down the wage bill because they want to sell the club? We are so far off champ lge football its a crime. we have become a laughing stock. We are great in name only.

Brendan Rodgers is not what Liverpool need. we need someone who can make us hard to beat. Teams seem to be able to walk right through us at present. Serious Investment is required.

31 Oct 2012 22:43:01
ok this is what i saw from the team tonight and what i already knew, here goes: henderson is not good enough and never will be for lfc, shelvey is better than him but even shelvey is not up to the standard required but is a good player for any mid-table club. downing is awful and cant wait to see him gone, carragher should just retire he is literally ruining his reputation and costing us every time he plays. joe cole is a money greedy over rated load of tosh, yesil wasnt given anything to feed off from the attackers, apart from over hit passes or you can call them shots straight at the guy from henderson and downing. robinson was poor and we can now see why he is either not ready yet or not good enough time will tell. coates looks poor next too carragher, but i think he can improve. oh and suarez is a very good player but not a striker and has woeful finishing. So overall we need to replace downing, henderson, joe cole, and buy a top quality striker.RedTurk

31 Oct 2012 23:09:30
So 9 (should be 10) goals in 14 apps with 4 assists is woeful finishing? The problem isn't Suarez's finishing, its the fact that he is our only goal scorer!

Please anyone correct me where i am wrong.RedTurk

Agree with most. How people praise Hendo on here i'll never know. Obviously don't go regular-he's carp

You're only ever here when we're on the losing end RedTurk and negativity and cynicism won't ever be helpful to us, learn to realise the facts and to never judge a player on one game. It's embarrassing.

Alex

31 Oct 2012 22:41:46
can anyone tell me what has happened to our defence this season?
we were pretty solid at the back....... whats gone wrong?
Pretty football is ok, but results speak louder, we need to go back to basics.
very very disheartened.

31 Oct 2012 23:04:25
Maybe it was that we didn't play any of our first 11 defenders tonight?

Otherwise, I put it down to a change in tactics from last season, although I thought Agger and Skrtel were awesome against Everton (excluding the 10 mins where it all fell apart). They have been getting better as they've been adapting. With us playing the ball on the ground more, and defenders going forward, 1000 passes a minute, it would require some adaptation, however I am still convinced we have the best central defensive pairing in the league.

31 Oct 2012 23:54:47
yes we have, but to win games we need to score more than we concede, so better playing to our strenghs and Slowely going forward, yes I want to see good football, but I want to see us winning more!

31 Oct 2012 22:41:26
We Lost get over it you imature children, We lost and played bad.

Bad bad bad bad bad bad game tha worst I've seen 4 years not surprised tho it's the norm nawadays sitn dwn 2 watch every game not confident Evan if we were playing Barcelona our Brentwood town sumthink isn't right

I only saw one team playing football tonight and it wasn't Liverpool. It comes to something when we have to look up to Swansea on how to play penetrating football.

31 Oct 2012 22:32:32
Tonight was first time I've been able to get tickets to a game for while. In fact the last time I went was to a similarly forgettable game in a 2-1 Wigan loss (don't worry I'm not going back until the Fulham game!)

Why was Yesil taken off?

Why was Downing kept on?

Why did Joe Cole start?

Anybody else think that the build up play was FAR too slow hence why Swansea were able to break so easily from one tackle?

Cheers Eds

Tell that to the 37,000 plus crowd.

Oh behave...I bet you were happy when we won it last year!

Do you care about the premier league?

10 points from 27? {Ed052's Note -

What position were you playing last night?

31 Oct 2012 22:29:41
rogers will be sacked in the new year watch this space

31 Oct 2012 22:29:34
We don't appear to be playing keep ball anymore. I dont understand the tacticts at the moment, we seem not to have a plan going into

I can honestly say Swansea have been the best team to play at anfield this season. Well done. We can't afford 9 changes with the squad we have. Mind you - that wasn't Swansea 1st 11

31 Oct 2012 22:28:04
Swansea obviously not employing the long ball tactics tonight then reds? (Wavertree Blue)

Yeah but u did against Leeds..... N how that turn out ? Everton won't win a trophy n I don't expect us too either, notwithstanding all these youngsters playing

Neither were the team that Everton were playing! Oh, they weren't playing! Why was that then? Oh,they were knocked out in the last round! By Leeds United (who?).
DM2012

Its a wonder the refs not gettin the blame

Swansea were a joy to watch wavertree blue and this is from a lfc fan replying!

they had much more in their technical ability than to rely on the long ball.

our only piece of happiness we can take from this defeat is that the philosophy that they have and have developed is predominantly inherited from a manager that is now trying to impose it on our lfc squad.

clouds and silver linings and all that...

s.p

Funny that as Everton have played Swansea 3 times since they have been promoted and won the lot scoring 6 goals and conceding 0 so much for tikki takka football being best hey

31 Oct 2012 22:25:47
I'm glad we are out.we haven't got the squad to compete in so many cups, the league Europa and f.a are all more important. The good thing is Suarez can't stop scoring and Stevie is finding form and building a relationship with him now. Muzzred

Can't believe you are glad that we lost at home to Swansea?

Yeah good post.

Now there is no chance of European football next season. Three more games would have been all it took. And you are "glad" we are out ? Are you insane. Where is the extra revenue going to come from next season to make for this dismal effort.

The only reason we are in the Europa league is because kd started winning silverware. Three more goals shipped. The average goal per game is approximately 1.8 now. At that rate 12th place in the league would be a good result.
Jmac

31 Oct 2012 22:01:53
Let's be fair the better team won tonight. Well done to Swansea in reaching the last 8.

Our squad is just far to thin and young to compete in 4 competitions, it will take a lot of time for brenden with his hands tied due to the budget constraints in place to Guida squad good enough just from the youth section.

It might be a blessing in disguise we are out and I hope Swansea go on and win it.

Dont be silly, swansea wont win it

So lets be clear, you want Swansea to get a place in Europe next season, at the expense of lfc??

So while we are playing premier league, and league and FA cup next season we can lose more new fans to the European playing teams.

This club is getting smaller. And your attitude is just what the current administration want from you. To lower your expectations.

Once down, we have seen its very hard to climb back up. Now no European football likely next season to attract any decent player in the next window.

So well done you keep supporting Swansea if you want euro footie. It was only three more games for gods sake. LFc should be able to cope with 3 more games.

Or are fans so desperate now they are worried BR drops another 6 points in the next 3 league games. That would put relegation on the agenda if we get to December with under 17 points.

ive kept quiet all season but cant take any more joe allen a waste of money michu hanandez and deguzman cost less alll together and are miles better then joe allen br hasnt a clue gerrad off suarez not jon jo for f sakes shocking loosing faith in br now bring rafa back now pls or even harry r

31 Oct 2012 22:24:12
it showed with his team selection how it was going to go , these young lads cant carry any prem side , then you add porkers to the young ones in joe cole and downing , every time i see downing play i always think 20 mill , i just cant believe it , what a waste of money , i think the team are afraid of losing , because when players run at them the defence falls to pieces , carra should retire at the end of the season and get into the coaching side , he would be more useful there , but all in all we just had a bad night , we got hit twice on the counter attack , which means we were at least attacking , in brendens style theres really no defensive back 4 they are more attacking , anyway at least we can save a few game for them tired legs ,suarez and gerrard need a rest they really do and then they can come back better and fitter

31 Oct 2012 22:03:47
watched a bit of the chelsea game, i hope we dont go for sturridge

31 Oct 2012 22:39:05
I was pleasantly surprised by him...still hope we get someone better though

31 Oct 2012 22:03:35
i've had enough a sunday league manager would prepare his side better no idea , seen things tonight from so called professional players a pub side would be ashamed of , the worst liverpool team i've seen in 40 years if Fsg have no money to invest sell up and go and play rounders, we are the laughing stock of english football.

Suarez is nowhere near world class gready and can't finish and he's our best hope!!!!!!

U deff must have skipped a few years here because this team is trying to play and in my opinion playing well and will climb the premier league table. so relax and watch as this team grows and tell me any liverpool manager that has had his team playing so well (and i do understand the results arent mirroring it) so early. now im a football player too and i will look forward to the next 40ty years when i know ur sunday league team will never play as well but im fair so we will see u in the premier league then.

so if our third goal had been rightly allowed at the weekend he would be the joint top scorer in the league and thats not good enough?! The problem isn't Luis, its the fact that the goals aren't coming from anywhere else

31 Oct 2012 21:59:01
A disappointing result tonight but its important to look at the bigger picture. We don't have the squad for all competitions and Sunday and three points is far more important.

Mighty reds

Be interested to hear from you after Sunday's match.

"Oh the europa is the priority" etc etc

31 Oct 2012 21:58:48
kick rodgers out and bring Rafa in.. he can speak his tika taka garbage back in the 4h division..
Hodgson was a better manager in the footballing sense..this guy has nothing to offer in football apart from his PR skills and media boy image..
loaned Carroll out without any back up ..Awful manager..No defensive shape at all..without suarez, gerrard and agger we would be in the relegation zone ..

31 Oct 2012 21:58:28
Luckily (for a change) I swerved tonight. Our two centre halves can't run which played nicely into Swanseas hand. A lesson learned I think.

31 Oct 2012 21:58:20
Game over 3-1,, We lacked quality in our Squad and it showed badly..how many times downing had chance to cross and Suarez to score...Michu what a buy for swansea...Holding player is what we missing most along with quality striker....

Harry Oldbury

31 Oct 2012 21:58:14
Well Done Rodgers. Another typical Sh*te display... I was adamant that I didn't want him sacked but this is becoming a joke.

Because you are adamant we should all listen to you then.

Really fantastic evening - even the under-21 side has been beaten!

31 Oct 2012 22:09:17
Tonight I watched in horror, pretty apt! we all still very much a side with a lack of footballers who have a brain.
Downing, first goal marks Chico.. totally switches off lets him drift off him, dosnt know the first thing about rules and after that pretty much same old Downing clowning around half heartedly, really if I was Rodgers I'd say reserves until Jan then go ASAP.. rather play with a kid willing to give you effort.
Second point lies with Sebastian Coates.. to often when put in 2nd string we tend to see his insecurities with the English game, the lad is slow and i've seen ships turn quicker than him.. at fault for 2 and 3rd goals, to slow to get to the header which Hernandez then nipped in and totally lets Michu drift pass him while he show's bull like ability chasing a ball that was never his, again no intelligence and will get continuesly found out in yrs in this league abeit.
3rd point, as good as he is and we may have to just put up with it for years is Suarez's tempermant in front of goal because he does things sometimes on a whim it tends to cost him when he has to think, 93rd min glorious op if he lifts his head up but yet again he chooses to snatch at it like 80% of his efforts..
4th Point, it's scary how we are made to look like strangers considering these lads train together all week, just no confidence at all or composure! Henderson will be good but not right now in a team going through transition, wrong time wrong place for him so i'd rather we sell and let Rodgers bring in his own player.
5th Point, as you'll all agree we had to bring on the 3star players as we'd put it in order to create anything, these players who should be rested really does highlight the thinness of the squad and it's clearly a big worry for Rodgers so early in the season having to depend on these! this has been clearly bad management from Liverpool in the last 3years letting it get this bad, players have left and not been replaced since the Alonso Mascherano days so it's just not about a striker shortage but generally, I fear burn out for players like Sterling and Suso/Wisdom along with over exposure leading to contract difficulities and many more problems. Ed's would you agree we need at least 5/6 quality players, ok we know the names who we can't attract realistically but solid players with ability and knowledge of the game?

Hmmm im just wondering u have a go at suarez but then class him as a star player either or for me

Listen Fans!
We have to realize sooner or later that we are not as strong as the Liverpool we all grew up supporting, It'll take time I think we could of got there with KD or BR its a matter of stability and bringing a philosophy of football into a talented side. We didn't spend much this summer so it'll be unfair to judge BR like we did to KD. Bad game for us tonight Good news is Suarez is putting shots away each game this season :)
Chin up Its easy to drop out the top 4 its getting back in thats the difficult part and being knocked out this cup can only help our chances

hey lfc fans...

oh well.........i guess we got to see the level we are trying to reach

swansea are a better team than us..so it will take time

now we must continue to try and get more points in the league

joe cole............oh my boy you just wasted your chance of getting in the team

red lobster

31 Oct 2012 22:06:28
Joe Cole should never pull on the shirt again - nice one Roy
Downing had one of his usual ineffective performances - nice one Kenny
Henderson - poor, but ok as a squad player and can still improve. Waste of money at the moment - nice one Kenny.

We can't say we played the kids, as they've been doing well for the first team they were given a rest (mostly).
It's the supposed senior members of the squad that ought to have grabbed the opportunity tonight, but didn't.

Carragher - looks spent. Legend, but should now be moved into coaching and kept on at the club.
Downing - need to cut our losses. Any bid over £5m would be a bonus.
Cole - free transfer please - get rid of asap.
Jones - mistake for Evertons first goal and could have commanded his box for their first goal tonight.
Allen - first off-game from him so far. He could have done with a rest, but we are lacking in that position so he had to play.
Henderson - contributed nothing
Yesil - absolutely no service
Assaidi - still bedding into the fast, tough style of play over here. Looks a good prospect.
Coates - Not his best night, but again will grow into a very decent (if not top-class) centre-back.
Robinson - another youngster, but looks a very decent prospect.
Shelvey - he is going to be absolute class. Plays with a swagger/attitude that you need at the highest level.

I agree pretty much on everything except Robinson & Coates. I do think either will be a resounding success

Well, Brendan and FSG, it's some fortress you've built at Anfield, isn't it?

31 Oct 2012 22:06:01
Another thing two players that i thought was outstanding was the south korean lad KI and MICHU two players both over looked by liverpool very dissapointed.

31 Oct 2012 22:43:18
To the above poster, how can you say those two were missed by Liverpool.
Perhaps Swansea have got abetter man manager.
Bobbinred

I've seen Ki live, he's a wonderful player. Always finds space, picks a great pass and is extremely composed on the ball.

I love Allen, but Ki would have been a good buy.

To bobbinred, i didnt say liverpool missed them i said liverpool overlooked them cause we was linked to them under kenny!

31 Oct 2012 22:05:47
Henderson, downing proved they are not good enough tonight best thing for them to do now is be sold, id pay someone to take joe cole.

Carra will have to take the blame for the non existent defence, time to hang those boots up mate

Gerrard has lost all of his consitency one minute passes the ball perfectly next minute hes getting disposessed in the middle of the park

How can we see what yesil is all about with joe "here to get paid" cole?

The 1st half was painful to watch tbh,

Suarez is the only one who takes EVERY game seriously,

A very angry Red

31 Oct 2012 22:05:24
Well what to say...praise should go to Swansea, they played really well and deserved the win.

The starting line up was a bit disrespectful to Swansea to be honest, unless BR isn't that bothered about the League Cup. Even when Suarez and Gerrard came on, we still had a make-shift defense, Carra doesn't seem to have the same ability to boss the defense anymore, they KILLED us on the counter attack. I thought even Sterling had a bad game. we didn't seem bothered about chasing the ball when we lost it, and our passing wasn't great, and there were so many missed opportunities. There were times when it looked like there were twice as many players in white as players in red.

Despite what our rivals want to believe we are still a 'big' club, but we sure didn't play like one tonight...

Maybe being out of the League Cup is a blessing, we have the league and 2 more competitions to concentrate on, maybe it's a good thing that we're out. But still, it doesn't excuse the performance.

PS watching the end of the Chelsea v United game, anyone who says the 'big' teams don't care about the League Cup is lying

Sterling played for 20 minutes, no need for that.

Papa G

31 Oct 2012 23:18:31
So what? Normally he's on fire from the start, he was obviously having an off day today, he's entitled to them. It wasn't a criticism, just an observation

31 Oct 2012 22:05:20
Well that was totally embarrassing, pathetic.

31 Oct 2012 22:04:42
Boy oh boy is this team in trouble. I have seen enough now to say that plan Rogers is not working.
Can't defend, can't find the net, over pass.
Most goals coming from set play, just like a decent ball into the box, which funnily enough is what a certain striker would thrive on.
This manager is not for us. He has no plan B
At least Rafa played according to the opposition.
For me his time is now limited. Its not like he played a poor team.

Stu the dis alluded Red.

31 Oct 2012 22:20:43
That was disappointing but look at the big picture and it isnt that important. No disrespect to swansea but if lfc played there strongest team they would more than likely have won the match. On another note suarez is looking like messi these days he just needs to keep it up.

31 Oct 2012 22:57:27
What you just said mate - the BR out brigade is in full force, it's pathetic really. We fielded a very weak side, with young players with little first team experience, and players like Downing, Cole, Carra to carry them. If anything this shows our lack of squad depth, no reflection on our starting 11. Even with Suarez and Gerrard we didn't play one of our first 11 defenders, which really showed.

I know other teams manage to take part in 4 competitions, but they have the squad to deal with it. When you have players like Lampard, Marin, Cahill and Sturridge on the bench, it's not so hard to do. Our attacking options are Luis, or an academy player!

We don't have the capacity to compete in all these competitions at the moment, which is why we should be concentrating our efforts on the EPL, preserving our first 11 - higher position means better ability to attract better players. Even N'gog would be useful right now!

Cheer up guys, BR knows what he's doing, if he fielded that side, obviously he doesn't rate the competition with that much importance.

Yes indeed BR knows what he is doing

His teams have consistently shipped more than 1.7 goals per game. He has no understanding of the word fortress.

He has no winning credentials. Pretty football is for the galaticos. Not for winning the premier league.

Winning the league cup could have been a low cost entry back into Europe next season

Lets face it, there is nil chance of euro football now until 2014/2015. Long time. Who wants to join a club with no European prospects in the forseeable future.

Spurs went out to Norwich - I don't feel so bad now!

Good game between the chavs and the scum, great to watch for a neutral (who strongly dislikes both teams) - the look on Fergie's face though was priceless!

That should make you feel worse not better as it lessons the Competition you fool.

31 Oct 2012 22:17:35
Hi reds . Question for you . If we had started with the 11 that played on Sunday do you think Swansea would have won tonight ?
I understand resting players but why make so many changes we were the holders of this cup why couldn't we take it a bit more serious . I only saw the last 30 mins as I was on a Halloween walk with my kids and what I saw was us chasing the game leaving massive holes at the back . We played some good football and should have scored more but it's our biggest problem . So why risk going a goal down and the having to chase the game ?
Rest key players yes but not all at the same time .

I am sorry but joe cole and downing should never put on the mighty red jersey again. their game was shocking!
I am all for supporting our and our players no matter what but the lack of effort shown by these two is disgraceful. I just hope we pick ourselves after this defeat.
P.S. Suarez getting some goals under his belt is the only silver lining i can see.

I thought Joe Cole was suppose to be our Messie so our deluded captain said.

A 70 year old Messi on a wheelchair would probably put in more then then JOE COLE. Being bad is one thing but the lack of effort is what frustates us lfc supporters.. Alot of players who arent good enough atleast put their weight about by putting in efforts and hardwork.

Anyone remember Carragher's ' Joe Cole's a God on Merseyside ' speech ? at least going out of this cup will spare us Jamie holding court with his chums in the press every round.

31 Oct 2012 22:11:03
Im not one to come on here after a win or a loss and proclaim us to be the best or worst team in world, but flipping heck. that was spineless. I agree we have played some great stuff and it hurts to say but Brendan we need more. It is simply not good enough. I can understand and appreciate the logic and style of play, but feck me. What sort of manager encourages to play in front of goal.

Im not calling for his head but I expect alot more from my team. Im giving the benefit of the doubt (for now), buut common sense has to prevail. Quite frankly I am more happy with my team being hard to beat, be that Hodgson or Benitez than easy on the eye but easy to beat like we have become. A few good performances against top teams does not paper over the cracks im sorry.

MUST DO BETTER.

Why would we lose supporters through the hard times? One thing we are not is Chelsea...

We know your not Chelsea as they win League titles...can you remember what one of those are?

22moreyears

01 Nov 2012 10:53:09
If you have the time I can tell you what it feels like to win competitions without buying them? Do you want to know what it's like to deserve to win the Champion's League? And doing it without parking the bus? I'm talking about how the stands were empty before Roman took over, and he bought league titles along with supporters. If Chelsea were relegated 90% of you lot would disappear and find another team to support. And finally, it doesn't matter what you say because I will never be embarrassed by a Chelsea supporter! There's nothing more embarrassing than being a supporter of your classless, plastic club, couldn't win anything until you bought it. How does it feel to know that over the last ten years you haven't deserved anything you've won?

Oh did i hit a nerve haha

31 Oct 2012 22:04:39
This was the reserve team tonight, All Kenny's expensive crap. It is so clear we do not have strength in depth.

Get Downing, Henderson, Carroll, Enrique out before we start calling for Brendan's head.

I am still having nightmares about how the money was wasted last season. So very desapointing.

Second half of last season we were bottom 3. It is going to take time to repair this 'ship'.

Come on get behind the manager and give him a chance.

Steve068

What the hell has tonights performance got to do with Kd/steve Clarke. They are gone.

They finished 8th and got to two cup finals, and got into Europe, yet you call those players who achieved that crap. what does that say about the new players, who are still 'bedding' in (its nearly November ffs)

BR has no achievement to his name bar his philosophy, and has the worst record of any lfc manager to date. So who created this mess? One person is responsible:BR. He picks the team and is supposed to motivate them and direct their tactics.

Don't spread your bile towards the previous managers who have all won more than this current administration. jmac

Same crap players kenny won this cup with??!!

31 Oct 2012 22:03:54

31 Oct 2012 21:54:05
Why is everyone calling for Rodgers head all of a sudden? Its fans like this that ruin a club! Yes we have been shocking tonight but this is only our first loss in 5 games and with the squad we've got i consider that to be quite decent. Rodgers is doing a great job by bringing through the youngsters, getting Suarez, Suso and Skrtel a new contract and by putting up with the what happened on deadline day. So before you beg for Kenny or Rafa back because of one bad cup result, just think okay.

Time is running out on Rodgers, I would happily send him back to Swansea to swap with Laudrup.

31 Oct 2012 21:50:17
To the BR haters coming out of the woodwork tonight.
He created Swansea - their style of play etc and they are making our 2nd string look poor, but they look good while they are doing it.
He has only had a few months at our club and we are already dominating most games.
Imagine how much better we will be after a year, let alone 2.
FFS, give the man a chance!!

Your lack of insight is disturbing and unjust.
Martinez created Swansea, Rodgers reaped the benefits.

31 Oct 2012 21:39:43
0-2 at Anfield against Swansea is nothing short of pathetic.

I'm beginning to think that the Liverpool job may have come a few years too soon for Brendan Rodgers.

He still has my full support, but results need to improve and fast.

...0-2 at the time of the original posting, when I thought it couldn't get much worse...it did we lost 1-3. TERRIBLE.

31 Oct 2012 21:38:51
Joe Allen looks tired, uncharacteristically losing more one on one physical battles then winning. I'm one of the few fans who likes Downing and has supported him, but that miss was woeful even if it did pop up and was on his weaker foot.

31 Oct 2012 21:34:49
dont no why shelvey is rated so highly. i think he is average at best.

31 Oct 2012 21:34:21
How many times has Joe Allen given the ball away tonight?????!!!!!!!!
Hardly done it once all season yet tonight it must be at least 6 already.

Haha not Europe Liverpool are awful no more the giants they once was

Looks tired and is losing out on more than his fair share of 50/50s.

He thinks he is still playing in white

I see you got outplayed again by another long ball, stoke cityesque type team tonight.

31 Oct 2012 21:41:34

Then they weren't happy with him, they got Kenny.

Then they weren't happy with Kenny, now we have Rodgers.

And obviously it's a bit much for people give him beyond sodding Halloween.

How long will we continue the merrygoround then?

Rafa back? Redknapp? Hyypia? Babel? Carra? All of them in a row, changing every three months?

Y'know guys, I love this club. But my opinion of some of the 'support' is really on the decline over the last couple of years. And yeah, maybe this guy isn't really a Red and he's just a WuM, but we all know there are actual fans of our club who really think that it's time to sack Rodgers.

- Something Red - {Ed023's Note - I'd take him off and put on Suarez. I hope he doesn't take Yesil off for Suarez}

31 Oct 2012 20:36:58
Is Joe Cole even playing? Or is that him continually losing the ball in midfield? I'm watching on a poor stream and the window is quite small. Can't tell if it is Cole or Allen losing the ball all the damn time.

31 Oct 2012 20:52:02
He's headed a decent chance into the 'keepers arms and that's it.

- Something Red -

Why waste givin Joe Cole game time, he is having a f**kin nighmare, he wouldn't get in my alehouse team. {Ed023's Note - Gerrard coming on, not sure who for though}

If he is btw he's done literally nothing!

31 Oct 2012 20:53:38
He is truely awful. He missed that great chance with the lamest header i have seen in years. 100k a week, nice work if you can get it!

Got to bring Gerrard and Suarez on for Downing and Cole asap.

Its because he's welsh and we re playing Swansea.
Just sentimental selection, as with Joe Allen who would have been rested if it was anyone else but his old club.

Did you guys know Jordan Ibe is EXACTLY 1 year younger than Raheem Sterling? Pretty weird stuff. In my opinion Jordan Ibe is perfect for the Premiership. He already has the right build on him and there is no doubting his ability. Let's hope he can actually step it up to the top level.

Samed Yesil starts up front for the Reds in their Capital One Cup tie with Swansea City at Anfield - listen live online from 8pm GMT.

The Liverpool team in full: Jones, Henderson, Coates, Carragher, Robinson, Shelvey, Allen, Cole, Assaidi, Yesil, Downing.

Subs: Ward, Suarez, Gerrard, Suso, Sterling, Skrtel, Wisdom.

Sly Sports had a handfull of games to put on tonight, They go with Man Utd now im not saying Utd don't deserve it after all they are the most successfull team from the EPL over the last 10-15 years and the biggest supported club in England (how ever much we don't want to admitt it) But this is a cup comp surely they could give someone else ago on SS1/2 not always Utd, From a nuetral point of veiw surely Swansea vs Liverpool will be a better quality of game, Or how about a lower league team who could use the money from Sly League 1, League 2 could use this comp to earn from T.V time and veiwing figures.

Sly are a joke.

Isn't it Man Utd v Chelsea? I am a liverpool fan but rating wise that game looks better on paper than ours. I wish I could watch both but my pc couldn't handle 2 feeds at once.
Andrew

No, they are doing what will get themselves the most views. Otherwise, it would not be a good business. Just don't be so biased all the time.

Piledriver

If it was chelsea v liverpool it would be on instead of man utd.

Im the original poster

I know that Man Utd vs Chelsea will bring good veiwing figures, But this comp could really be usefull to lower league teams revenue wise, Its just the rich getting richer the poor getting poorer, Sky could have put Utd on a website 1 and another lower league team on 2 at least, There's just no help for the lower league teams, Sociaty is greedy.

I would rather watch chelsea v man u than bristol v yeovil to be honest.

If they put on lower league games instead of a big game like chelsea v man u, then ratings would drop, if ratings dropped then then advertising would drop which would cause the amount sky pay to drop and result in the lower league teams receiving less money.

United v Chelsea was always goig on tv after sunday and so far its the right decison.

Nice to see you admit that your a lower league club though

I hear no money will be given to the manager in Jan. Only loan signings will be done. FSG stink

If thats true, and we cant afford at least one striker, then were in trouble, big trouble.

31 Oct 2012 17:25:32
FSG are a joke limited funds they really should not have bought this club. David Moores has more money

31 Oct 2012 17:34:12
Bring back Tom Hicks, yeah?

Git.

- Something Red -

I'm not big fans of FSG to be honest, but surely they will want to avoid another Clint Dempsey deadline day disaster in January, right?

FSG are not going to shout from the rooftops that they have money to spend in January, because that will only make clubs inflate player prices (and we all know January isn't the best time to be negotiating transfers anyway)

I fully expect a striker to be brought in, to lighten the load on Suarez. However, please don't expect somebody like Cavani or Llorente joining. It will most probably be one from Hooper, Huntelaar or perhaps Sturridge.

31 Oct 2012 18:26:05
Bunch of muppets think of it this way would u rather be a club on the verge of liquidation just touching top four or a club debt free and on the up and being self sufficient?

They've invested somewhere probably in the £150m on players (discounting the minimal sales) in just 2 years here. I would hardly suggest that is 'limited funds.' Get real. I can't believe half the people on here, it's like you expect infinite amounts of cash will just be thrown at the club for instant success. That isn't viable, do you really want to be like City/Chelsea/PSG? FSG are looking for both success and sustainability. Money is no guarantee for success, and even if it was, the amounts of money that those clubs throw around is not sustainable.

ChrisMiz

I don't see the likes of Sturridge or Walcott being that much cheaper of an option than Llorente to be honest... Hooper is probably the only realistic option mentioned above, unfortunately.

Regardless of whats been spent in the past, surely the management and owners ,can see we need investment in the team? If they choose not to, the current decline will only continue, Personally think they will be happy to stay in the league with the extra EPL money next season.

anyone know of any sites i can watch the game tonite guys?

harry h {Ed002's Note - www.thefirstrow.eu }

Out of curiosity Ed, what is the legal status of streaming live football? {Ed002's Note - It is not legal stream games and it breaches the copyright held by the Premier League, FA or whoever. In the longer term clubs want to use the internet and show games as a revenue stream. There are a bunch of hurdles to overcome but both Arsenal and Liverpool have expertise amongst their shareholders in doing this.}

Ed, they should because I know here, at college, there is no legal way for me to watch Liverpool. I had Fox Soccer at home but even then they did not carry all the Liverpool games. They should definite access the internet even if it is free like espn3 they could get ad money.
Andrew {Ed002's Note - The problem right now is the licensing.}

Awesome. We get to break the law. Screw the FA and watch Liverpool all at the same time. Just the way I like it :D

Rumours for Jan are starting to gather pace. I can see the club looking to bring in some goal scorers and with the recent injury records of our fullbacks I can see one experienced fullback targeted to provide competition/cover for both fullback positions.

With this in mind I think the club with be looking at the following player ins and outs.

Huntelaar: ST (Shalke) Great finisher would lead the attack with a calm confidence acquired from scoring almost a goal a game in recent Bundesliga seasons. Knows Suarez from Ajax days and would upgrade the squad into top 4 challengers.

Aubameyang: LW/RW/ST - (St Etienne) Very quick, skilful player, with great attacking ability, plays up front or wide and would provide power and finishing ability to our attack - with plenty of flair to boot.

Ansaldi: LB/RB (Rubin Kazan) Great with both feet, ideally suited to current squad as he can add experience and technically ability to either fullback side..

Players to be told they can look for new clubs:
Downing (will still fetch a good price from mid table sides - perhaps a return to Villa)
Cole (will be sold to Spartak or West Ham for nothing as wages high)

Cheers
GK Red

I'd be happy with that. But not getting hopes up after the last window. We have a lot of games before january as well who we need will be determined more by then depending on how the current squad perform, obviously one or more strikers is what everyone expects jdog

"Train, car, plane, taxi, walk there are loads of ways to get to a match if you really want to."

You're forgetting one thing: money.

It would cost me at least 300 euros to come and watch the game! I prefer to sit here drinking myself silly while watching the silly play on the screen. The side that began tonight's match has scored in total 28 goals for Liverpool. I am sick and tired of the players passing the ball along the front of the penalty area at BOTH ends. In fact, there is more danger of a goal when the ball is being passed along the front of our own area. I know that we have the makings of a great side but it's taking a hell of a long time. Get rid of the likes of Cole, Carragher and Downing now. None of these three should ever play for Liverpool again. I have always said that Carragher is the most over-rated player to appear for Liverpool and I think that it time he realised that he has nothing to bring on the field of play. Let him do the decent thing and RETIRE!!

Its a pity that the best football league in the world is riddled with below standard refs. LFC has been at the receiving end for the last three years and it seems our rivals get everything in their favour. Its time EPL consider continental refs to work along side local refs to get rid of favourism in the UK.

We are working very hard for the points only to be denied by reckless refs. The FA should take disciplinary action against those found to be below standards and replace them to bring back credibility to this world class league. Its ashaming that our refs are now determining results of matches. It like match fixing in my opinion.

Listen, its not just a liverpool thing, most teams feel an injustice, living in london whats happened to spurs over the years is highlighted just as much here just as liverpool is there! Rules are rules but it does seem that all officials have their own interpretation of the rules?

31 Oct 2012 14:16:51
It's not all doom and gloom lads. I think a lot of people focus too much on the transfer failings of this club, but seem to ignore the fact that we've saved millions through the youth policy. Just a few examples; Man Utd forked out £16m for a CB who can play RB in Phil Jones (who has been injured for weeks). We have Andre Wisdom. Arsenal and Man Utd forked out around £10-£15m for flair playmakers such as Cazorla and Kagawa. We have Suso. Man Utd paid around £16m for a goal scoring winger in Ashley Young and we wrongfully paid £20m for Downing, when we had Sterling. We will no doubt save money on another winger when we promote Jordan Ibe (another Sterling in the making) and save even more when we promote strikers Samed Yesil and Jerome Sinclair. I'll let you Kopites figure out how much money we are saving. AsianRed

31 Oct 2012 14:45:59
You have 'Saved Millions' ? Did I read that right?

He obviously meant money we will be saving in the future.

Phil Jones actually cost £22m depending on appearances etc..

What is it with our Communications Dept?

They fire them due to a completely inept running of just about everything to do with the media, replace them with this Jen Chang, who then threatens a blogger and we have to issue statements of apology through the media again?

Surely with the amount of communication type courses, qualifications and companies that specifically deal with 'communications' they could find somebody to say and do the right thing at the right time!

Or is this another strategy to keep us on the back page? you do wonder sometimes.....

Jen Chang should be sacked for gross misconduct and gross stupidity. Lets see the owners use their authority and get rid of this liability.

why is everyone targetting suarez for diving?
there are many other players who dive a lot more than suarez. yet when ever there is a report on diving in the media, there seems to be a photo of him.
in my opinion, its unfair, and i think it shows how biased people are. liverpool seem to be getting a bad reputation for no reason, and there are lots of descisions going against them. only way to answer these critics is to start winning games..
it was funny watching suarez dive infront of moyes tho...

You don't get a reputation for diving by not diving mate.
Suarez has done many things over the years to deserve his reputation.
He seems to have grown up a lot this year but he still has a way to go before he is left alone.

MIKEY

MIKEY,

I dont disagree that he has brought most of the negative press on himself, my issue is that it is not evenly distributed. Everytime he mentioned they say he is a brilliant player however he has his negative side, blah blah, every time. When they discuss diving, he is the example every time. Now when Ashley Young or Gareth Bale is mentioned, they seldom mention their negative sides outside of directly after an incident. He is improving but has a way to go but not as far to go as the press and pundits do.

One thing I can't stop thinking about recently is how players off field lifestyle affects their attitude of the pitch. The major reason for this is Jose Enrique. Now I'm not an avid fan of Twitter, but following Jose ad reading his tweets it gives a clear impression that the boy loves his Fifa.

Now David James was notorious for his addiction and ridiculous late nights, leading to his infamous 'Calamity James' nickname. I'm not sure Jose plays quite so late into the night, but on the pitch he seems to act as if he's playing as his virtual self. His actions are that of a man whose consequence of losing the ball in a vital area isn't that big a deal. He must think 'I can take on those 3 players, no worries', he just doesn't play like a player of his abilities should.

I don't know whether I wasn't watching carefully or whether everything he tried came off, for the first 6 months he joined. I remember a quality left back, one who warranted a place in the Spain squad and who had ability both going forward and defending to be one of/the best left back in the league. Was I just biased given that I'd seen Dossena and a rotund Insua in recent years, or was he genuinely that good?

Enrique hasn't been great but I seriously doubt it's because he's been playing to much FIFA! Ha

Just heard Liverpool's offer to Sterling was 12.5k a week. FSG are the tightest owners they should just give him what he wants. He is our second best player at just 17 we need to keep him. I would not sign that contract its a joke.

31 Oct 2012 09:59:31
and be held to ransom by a 17 year old lad? 12.5k is plenty for a young guy who has been playing first team football for a third of a season! Sterling is a great player and has so much potential, but he can't let all this go to his head. If he is on £12.5k now, he has something to play harder for every week. If he were to get what he wants now he will learn that he can hold us to ransom, and do a Wayne Rooney whenever it suits him. He is getting a very good deal here, playing regularly for a team who stand a good chance of winning a trophy this season. I want to keep him too, but no one is bigger than the club. If he wants to go and win nothing, or warm a bench somewhere else, he will go. If he really wants to play for the shirt he will stay and work hard for a better pay packet.

Don't want to sound disrespectful towards him, but he really needs to stay grounded and not get carried away - he is a football superstar in the making, he is not there yet. Maybe some negotiation over his pay, but to give him what he wants would be going too far in my opinion.

Since Gerrard is our best player

Do you not think suarez is our second best player?

Sour Puss {Ed052's Note - Gerrard is no where near our best player}

31 Oct 2012 10:44:37
If you look at how our players perform in their positions, how can you say Sterling is our second best player? Skrtel, Agger and Johnson could walk into most teams in the EPL, Lucas and Allen are superb midfielders, Gerrard shows flashes of his former self. No need to even mention Suarez. Sterling has the potential to be an absolute world class winger, but he is nowhere near the finished article. He outplays many other wingers in the league who are currently at their peak, but to say he is our second best player is going a little too far. He needs to watch his progression, he is being hyped up so much right now, I get worried he will move to a currently more successful team and get no game time which will seriously hinder his development. In my opinion he needs to stay here for at least the next 3 - 4 seasons if he wants to reach his potential.

Gerrard our Best player? He better be progressing, at the moment he sucks

I think hes entitled to want more considering what joe cole does for 100 k a week

12.5k a week... that's £50,000 a month, and a £650,000 yearly salary at the age of 18. Whether its true or not, its outrageous to the working class lad like myself. But, in the modern game of footy agents etc the offer has to be comparable to other club football players around the same age.

Problem is for example Henderson is on about £20k a week, and Liverpool consider Sterling better than him, so he could be expecting a similar deal to him, though he is about 2-3 years older.

If we offer say £20k a week, how will Suso feel, knowing he just signed a new contract with us (probably 10k a week or so), but will probably be getting much less than Sterling now (and he's older than him).

Then there's Joe Cole on 90k a week... how can a club justify to a young player a wage structure, when Cole (who is a fringe player) is on that much.

If he is gonna start every game this season, I'd say offer wages of £15k a week, with a 10k appearance 'bonus', and get him on a 5 or 6 year deal. This would make him highest paid teenager at 18 in the Prem, and is more than enough to make sure he signs. RC

31 Oct 2012 20:51:08
£12.5k is perfectly reasonable for him. It's not reflective of the fact that he's worse than players on more, it's reflective of the fact that he's 17 and you don't want to put him on £70k a week and have him think he's made it and doesn't have to try anymore.

Do you think we handed Owen or Fowler or Gerrard top wages at that age?

- Something Red -

31 Oct 2012 08:25:44
If we're seriously looking at Christian Eriksen, then surely we can't be considering buying Nuri Sahin aswell. Yes they play in slightly different positions but I'd imagine we may be looking at this team next year

Lucas Allen

Eriksen

That's a very exciting and ambitious midfield, but also a very costly one as Eriksen won't come cheap, if he wants to come at all.

Obviously this leaves the Gerrard conundrum. Personally I think we'll see him moved further forward this year to play in the front three with Suarez and Sterling. If this happens then our squad depth is good, with Shelvey, Suso and Henderson adding to midfield. Assaidi and Borini up top, with surely another striker to join.

I think/hope Pepe may find his form soon, as then I'm pleased with the goalkeeper department with Jones stepping up. I'm delighted by the defence too. If Carra retires a combination of Sama, Wisdom and Kelly will fill in. Robinson may have come of age and if not Enrique may well be replaced. Johnson has really stepped up this year and Agger, Skrtel form one of the best defensive partnerships in the league. Also a quick nod to Coates. Bar his unfortunate own goal, he's starting to look like a very high quality centre half and will be challenging Skrtel very soon.

It's strange when looking on paper that our squad is so close to being genuine top 4 challengers. I suppose the difficulty is relying quite heavily on youth to produce. Now I'm not for one minute saying our current crop of talent isn't up there with any top footballing club, perhaps with the exception of Barca. However getting the balance of youth and experience is a very delicate matter.

Pure ability does take you so far, but for me at times there is no accounting for big game/occasion experience. Now people may disagree but the one player I miss who really stepped up on the big occasions is Kuyt. He may not have possessed the pace of Sterling or skill of Suso, but what he lacked in ability he more than made up for in honest, hard working and tenacious play. We lack experience most notably up top and I'd hope that's an area we can improve.

As we faze out the old and usher in the new, I'm excited to see what team we can become. I just hope that the all important striker we buy, is one with a little experience and nous rather than potential talent, as we currently have players of that kind in the bucket load.

Don't worry he won't be coming we could not afford him

Maybe he'll make his way to chelsea {Ed002's Note - He won't be moving to Chelsea.}

Hi Eds
A few questions for you, please answer.
1, do you think Torres could come to us on loan?
2, do you think he is a Rodgers type player?

Thanks
Redman 10 {Ed002's Note - (1) No (2) No idea.}

31 Oct 2012 10:52:40
Seriously, are people still talking about Torres? There are cheaper, better, younger strikers out there within our reach! the guy is pushing 30 and a shadow of the player we bought, and he didn't want to play for us anymore! He could have stayed and given Kenny a chance, played up front with our Luis, and had the opportunity to make us great again, but instead he opted to play for a side who carried him to the FA Cup and CL, whilst he sat on the bench and got paid...if by any crazy chance he did return, it goes without saying that we'd support him, as we support all our players, but I would never go as far as 'wanting' him back - moving onwards and upwards is the key, not dwelling on past players who have moved on.

I'd rather have Heskey. He's scored 3 times as many as Torrid this season

cozinoz

Doesnt torres have 4 in 8, be fair thats not a bad return

Heskey has 4 from 4.

Morning eds and fellow kopites, may you all have a lovely day :-)

Let's move on from the derby and concentrate on our game against Newcastle - we all know the truth!

Lots of love (in a manly football way! Grrr!)

Shouldn't we be concentrating on tonight's game before Newcastle

Big ups Eds and fellow reds,
I dont care what u say, but u just gotta love Luis Suarez, the diving celebration in front of Moyes, that was classical, egg ryt in ur face Moyes.
If it were up to me , Suarez would never ever leave. He turns defenders inside out, and fergie just burns with envy.
This lfc squad just has a touch of magic to it.......
I cant wait for the next two years...... In BR we trust.

31 Oct 2012 10:05:26
Admitedly i've been a little frustrated with him over the last few matches, however he really impressed me against Everton. Wasn't in the ref's face, stayed on his feet, scored goals, took on players, got in there and tackled, and waited until after the match to challenge the ref about the last goal. Kept smiling despite the abuse he was getting, and got on with it. I really, REALLY hope this is what we can expect from him from now on. He was professional, hard working and focussed, all the time maintaining his sense of humour! Love it!

Hes phenomenal , however i do think we need a clinical man somewhere around him to bring out the best in him

Just like to wish the best of luck to Jonjo and Raheem for the European Golden Boy Awards.

To have TWO players, never mind one up for nomination is unbelievable.

Do you eds or anyone know if we are going to sign 1 or 2 strikers in january?

Cheers AC from DK {Ed002's Note - Certainly a striker is a priority.}

Eds, heard that Rodgers will be given 20M in Jan transfer window. Is it true?

Also, which player will probably let go in Jan transfer? Since youngster already fill in winger position, i think Joe Cole & Downing will be gone. Henderson, im nt so sure. he's gud squad player but cannot give impact like assaidi, jonjo. what do u think Eds?

Im told that Keisuke Honda also will be free agent in June. So, he also can sign pr-contract agreement right? Liverpool still interested in him? If Asian player will be sign, i like either him or Heung-min son.

thanks Eds. {Ed002's Note - Honda is not free agent in June and cannot sign a pre-contract with Liverpool in January.}

Eds what is the situation with Honda, was he not set for a move to Lazio in the summer but it fell through ? And how long has he got on his contract and are CSKA actively seeking a sale if there price is meet?

BigD {Ed002's Note - The deal with Lazio fell through - his contract runs thru December 2013. If a good offer arises it is possible he could be sold.}

Strangely Walcott only puts in a shift when its contract negotiation time... He is not for us.
Mike InUSA

Mike to be fair Theo plays well through out the season, but his inconsistentsy is why he gets slated.

I have a question for anyone that reads this post-

As a competitive sporting team, do you think it is better to attempt to make multiple chances to get into goalscoring opportunities (regardless of success rate) or knowing you are not exceptional in the attacking areas to defend with the ball?

I realise mindless passing is no fun to watch, and I'm not asking the question what would you rather see on your TV on at the weekend.

I want to know what you would do in the given situation.

Personally, knowing that my team could not score freely, I would be scared of giving the ball up for the the low chance of scoring a goal.
Agree- hold possession
Disagree- attempt to create GS opportunities regardless of likelihood

Cheers guys,
ForzaRed

You have to keep creating chances.
We are not Stoke.

MIKEY

That's a really stupid question. Who wouldn't want to keep creating goalscoring opportunities? Even if the chance is really low you still have a chance to score..

BthekingB

I don't think it's a stupid question at all mate. I see where you're coming from. I would say, I would always prefer teams to attack the opposition rather than just wait for a lucky break.

Like Blackpool a few years back. They didn't have the most technically gifted players in the world but they didn't just sit back and wait for an opprtunity, they got hold of the ball and tried to score.

Then yeah, you have teams like Stoke who create nothing and just whack the ball up to Crouchy.

I can see why you, with less gifted players, may not want to to be quite so gung ho but you gotta play the game right? Not just sit there and hope the opposition doesn't score.

davethebutcher

Sounds like a question fit for the Everton page.

Who else thinks we should be letting more distance efforts fly? I mean from around 25 yards, not crazy distances. Like the ones Stevie used to have at least one per game of back in the day. We create so much, but especially against the likes of Stoke surely we could do with the deflections and rebounds that often come of them. I would take a tap in now and then just to get some more goals in the team. Shelvey seems to think the same ;)

pronin

I think the main problem with efforts from distance under BR is the low conversion rate. And not only do you not score but you immediately give the ball to your opponent and with our young and relatively inexperienced squad we need to maintain as much control of the ball as possible to stop us conceding.
BR is working on getting more tap ins but it requires courage, composure, skill, tactical awareness and experience to carve out openings with a high scoring rate and we don't have a lot of some of those qualities in the squad right now. Youngsters will develop this and players with a goal threat will be brought in as well as established players thinking and playing differently.
The low conversion of chances has been a problem for years for us and shows a weakness in our squad. It will get better though.

Simon

Low conversion rate yes but it is an added threat that will draw defenders and open up passing lanes.

If rodgers is planning on buying an average striker,he should not bother, only world class would do right now..if he can't he should try bringing some on loan.not wasting money and wait till summer..he should try out the young fowards first before getting another average striker to come in..january..

Agree but teams usually aren't looking to loan out there world class players.

He should look at Cavani on loan instead of trying to buy Messi.

The Team tomorrow is;

Jones
Downing Carragher Coates Robinson
Shelvey Allen Henderson
Cole Yesil Assaidi

Gulacsi, Enrique, Sama, Suso, Sahin, Sinclair, Suarez.

Redfella

Sooo, Downing at right back now?

Downing at rb? Swansea will definitely have a field day. Why is joe 'waste of space' cole even considered is beyond me.
Indian Buzzer

I was told that Henderson was at RB, and Downing on the wing with Cole in central midfield, but my personal view is that Henderson would not play RB.

My Sauce is sometimes a bit off too, which makes my decisions for a bacon butty a bit harder!

Looking at a good game today!

Redfella YNWA

Oh, and I agree with you Buzzer.

Cole is shocking. My idea is that Brendan is trying to get a good game or two from him before January to actually show clubs that he's worth spending a penny on!

Redfella

Always used to disagree with you in the past, Buzzer, but you are spot on mate

Any fan who slates any liverpool player is a disgrace, whoever they field get behind em. while they are liverpool players they shud get full backing
